Speaker: Let me know when you're in. Can't you tell? says you... ah That's the funniest thing you've said in seven years. I love it.
Speaker: Hello everyone and welcome to this week's episode of the Fellowship of the Tabletop. We are a live play 5e D&D podcast set on the high seas. I am the second breakfast that is Callum playing the Warforged Artificer Alpha.
Speaker: We have our own Baby Balrog playing the Dragonborn Druid Bal Balcon. We have the one who always comes in pints Ian playing the Warforged Nixcurell. Yep, don't go drinking with me.
Speaker: We have the orc in the streets but dwarf in the sheets. Darren playing the orc barbarian. Tharix and Jari. Chevrolet round. Hello. We have the one DM to bring us and in the darkness bind us Dungeon Master Danny.
Speaker: Build me an army worthy of Callum.
Speaker: We move briefly over to Old Gal, sat atop a tree stump, looking out at small gathering of corbals that bow to him, worshipping his presence.
Speaker: He gestures to a select few who come forward and join him as they all gaze in the mystical crystal ball. Ooh, Double Team Supreme! Tolkelon's forces have been released and it's showtime. Baal wants a mind-fucking, but Nyx can't get it up. But eventually they get there with a bit of teasing. Nyx and Baal sink minds and then start driving it like a boss towards the battle and... ...and some sea storms. A parrot arrives and Baal talks to it, learns its name is Makar......and wants to lead......it wants to lead them to the line of the sea......as it belongs to one of Vossain's captains. Hmm. The party decides to follow Makar......as it leads them through the center of a battle......and 90 minutes later... It's further north with them all, and it's a lot clearer, and the battle's raging on behind them. Eventually, the group emerge into a clearing and see Vossan's ships vastly outnumbering and boarding Shadow Mendian vessels. The bodies littering the oceans get sucked on down to feed the spider who swims, and eventually the line of the sea comes into view, and she's a hefty bitch. Lots of firepower, beautiful and terrifying. And the figurehead of their ship is an Andosphinx and a Gynosphinx. But wait, no wait, they're actually creatures. They're not just for show. And they emerge from the ship and they start charging towards the Severed Compass and the Esmeralda. And Tharok gives a profanity-laden war cry as the Sphinxes charge. Lightning strikes into the ocean and a colossal sparkles.
Speaker: Ida breaks through the waves and drags one of those bitches down to the depths. And at the same time, Baal feels the scales stand on end on the back of his neck as they're a change in the wind from behind.
Speaker: and as the ocean cackles in a kind of purple and blue resonance skies above you dense in rain cloud and lightning thunder erupting from all directions and to your south that smoky haze from the ship fights and the the low mist that's set in blankets your view to the south approaching at great speed ahead of you the androsphinx now moving within
Speaker: 250 feet of your vessels. And, Baal, just as you turn behind you, perhaps as you feel compelled to do so, there is a black silhouette emerging from behind you now as well.
Speaker: As we get to the moment where the Androsphinx is going to approach that held action, Nix, is there anything you want to do?
Speaker: Nyx or Barl, sorry. Nyx, you said you were holding an action. I didn't know if Barl turning around. we're We're now in 120 feet, about to enter into the 120 feet. That's fine. So my spectral figure at the bow of my ship, the Esmeralda, holds out one hand and fires an Eldritch Blast at the Sphinx.
Speaker: What is the range again? 120? 120. Okay. Go ahead and roll to hit.
Speaker: That is a 22 to hit. That hits. Go ahead and roll damage. Let's fucking go
Speaker: That is three points of force damage. And then with the other hand jutting out another Eldritch Blast at sniper range for a sexy 24 to hit.
Speaker: That hits. And that is a ah one point of force damage. Four overall. Thank you very much. And then he jumps into the other spectral creature. Eldritch Blast!
Speaker: And he does this 80 more times. This is going to be the longest round. If it's technically one turn, can the only shoot be one? Shut up, Darren! He's contemplating this. No one wants to be in this podcast. You only held one action.
Speaker: ah And you took that Eldritch Blast action. You only held one action. Okay. and But I'm testing the waters there. if we were eating If we were in ship initiative and you can have three actions per turn, this would be viable, what you're suggesting. But right now,
Speaker: no and Oh, boys. Because this is your held action. Get you photo get ready, guys. Fuck up this thing. I'm about to spend an hour doing one action. Woof.
Speaker: Woof, woof, woof.
Speaker: Okay, so
Speaker: what happens next?
Speaker: At the point where this Androsphinx is surely going to collide with the severed compass at the pace it's moving, but
Speaker: you temporarily kind of um kind of lose, ah get lost in your your inhalation of breath as flying overhead at a sheer speed that you have never seen a creature capable moving at before that matches the speed of this Androsphinx. A black dragon comes flying in full pelt and knocks into the Androsphinx, knocking both back into the water.
Speaker: As this dragon kind of recovers, turns, and flies back round, the Androsphinx now behind both vessels and knocked the dragon ahead.
Speaker: Ghostwing.
Speaker: readies to fly in again, having knocked the Androsphinx off a certain collision.
Speaker: And now I'll ask you all, or at least the ship captains, to roll initiative, please. Let's fucking go, Ghostwing! Last week, Danny, you said I could do this at an advantage, um thanks get to thanks to Tharok's kind of... Yeah, boy. Yeah.
Speaker: Does the ship have an issue or is it just the overall your initiative. Okay, cool. Then it's a... I'm ready to give mine. All right. 19. It's 19.
Speaker: Esmeralda, what do we roll? Fucking shit. Eight. Eight shit. It's not a 19. Instead a compass. 19! Basically, what happened is, is that Farrock did to the ship what Coven Ramsey does to Hell's Kitchen. He just swore a lot and gave it inspiration. LAUGHTER
Speaker: So this is quite an extended initiative order I'm having to just roll for now. Yeah, and I'll take it with initiative 32.
Speaker: Ghostwing, baby! I'm
Speaker: so fucking glad. Ghostwing's here. Okay. Top of the round. Three actions at your behest. Severed compass. What would you like to do? oh I need to give you all the map.
Speaker: yeah I thought something was missing.
Speaker: me know when you're in.
Speaker: Can't you tell? says you...
Speaker: That's the funniest thing you've said in seven years. I love it. It says you need to start the game session. Waiting the DM to start the session. Yeah, there we go.
Speaker: I don't like how Nick's a ship as a coffin. Everyone else is saying that, right? It's not just me. So, I'm just pinging on your screen here. Yeah.
Speaker: ah The southwestern um vessel that you can see, that is the subacompass. The southeastern vessel you can see, that is the Esmeralda. About two times larger than both of those vessels is the line of the snake, line the snake line of the sea, and that is far to the north.
Speaker: And then the two flying creatures that occupy the waters between these three vessels, the androsphinx and ghostwing. Although, that's floating a little bit further down there. So, top of the round, it is Severed Compass's turn. What would you like to do?
Speaker: Cool. Have we got the wind in our sails? The wind is in your sails. In in our favour. Cool. And I'm sure... Are we beelining?
Speaker: Darren, you'd be able to tell me this. How fast can we move?
Speaker: What's the speed? Mach 5?
Speaker: Hold the line, Caller.
Speaker: 45 feet of movement 60 with wind with wind 60 with wind but all of my cannons are currently on the left of the ship is that right it was reset it was reset so you've got two unless you you sorry you put this in but words this was the arrangements you put in going into this combat so yes all of your ships are on the left all of your cannons apologies are on the left okay My proposal team?
Speaker: We want to, like, we're not here for the Andosphinx. Ghostwing is here to help us complete the mission, right? So we want to be getting ourselves to the... we were shouting out, focus on Yulion.
Speaker: yeah Eyes on the prize. yeah Exactly, good. Okay, we're of the same mind. That's good. um So we can get 60 feet closer to the enemy ship. We can put... It's two-thirds of the way.
Speaker: lapper Do we not have... It's movement different from the action on the ship, so I remember. We've got three actions. Yeah, yeah. What move is one action. Move is one of them. But we're facing currently we're facing directly forwards. So we would get ourselves perfectly into their cannon line of sight if we move 60 feet forwards. You've got three actions though. You could move beyond that. I've got to say, if we did 180, would we be right behind it?
Speaker: um With cannons on the wrong side, we would... not bothered about the cannons. I want to get close to it. Yeah. Well, we could use two bits of movement to get ourselves kind of directly behind the enemy ship with cannons on literally the opposite side.
Speaker: And then we could use our third action to spin around so that the cannons are facing the ship. What are you What thinking? I think that's the best solution.
Speaker: um Ultimately, we want to get on that ship, don't we? But for now, I think it getting in short immediately getting... Yeah, I don't want it to like his turn and he just get barraged. So if we've got ah two my movements and a bit of protection for it, yeah, absolutely. It would mean that it could turn and shoot us on its next go, but... Well, if it does, we'll figure out while we're sinking.
Speaker: Okay. Sounds good. Let's do that then. fuck Okay. So you're going to sail to the rear of the vessel. So you're out of the kind of spill the cannons as it sits. Bean it directly so that we're we're directly behind it.
Speaker: ten That would take two actions to move that far. Is that right? Is that what we want to do? Are we out of... Yeah. yeah I'm fine with that. With one speed action, Danny, are we out of range of it? No, you would still be in range.
Speaker: Cool. I think it would have to be too. We want it to waste an action turning to try and get us, don't we? so We want to get it into a position where it can't shoot both of us. that have it If it shoots us, we at least want to make sure it can't shoot the Esmeralda as well.
Speaker: Yeah, exactly. Okay, so that's what we'll do. We'll use all of our movement to get behind the ship and then use our ah last action to turn so that all of our cannons are facing the ship. or you could turn 90 degrees, not 180. You need to do two movement actions to turn 180. I'm with you.
Speaker: So what would you like to do? You could turn 90? Turn 90 to the right? Or are we going to do the other features? 90 to the right will make us harder to hit because we'll be front on and unless it completely circles around us.
Speaker: but That's a lot of movement it wastes. And it would then leave itself to being broadsided by the Esmeralda. so Yeah. So cannons are still facing up to the north. We're 90 degrees facing. It's us basically like as if we've kind of handbrake turned and gotten ourselves directly behind it in like parallel to it. Is that right?
Speaker: Yep. That's the intention. that's That's us, I think. Great. You saw the movement of people. and Tharok and Alpha, where would you be placing yourselves? Currently you're just on deck, but would you like to be anywhere specifically?
Speaker: Tharok for now will take up position on the cannons. He wants to be somewhere on deck, um ready to board, but he will for now, knowing it's the most advantageous thing we can do, is take up position on the cannons.
Speaker: How far away are we from
Speaker: Lion of the Sea at the moment? About 30 feet.
Speaker: um That would be one of my actions, which I wouldn't be able to do for it. um Yeah, okay. i There's going to be a bit of a pause, but Althar's going to move himself to the cannon deck as well. It makes very little sense for him not to be there at this stage.
Speaker: Okie dokie. All right. That is the end of the Severed Compass. It is the Andosphinx's turn. And the Andosphinx is going to, ah really royally enraged by this dragon that's now apprehended it, is just going to
Speaker: ah
Speaker: fly towards the dragon.
Speaker: which it can do with its flight speed, and it's going to make
Speaker: two claw attacks on the dragon, as it's called a drive-by slashing, if you will.
Speaker: What you see, i won't kind of track damage rolls for you all because you're just going to be listening to me roll dice. What you see is two very clean strikes of the Androsphinx as it rips into the throat of Ghostwing and then flies beyond it, ah heading in the direction also of the Severed Compass.
Speaker: It's stopping about 15 feet off the port side of it where it's run out of movement. That's all it's going to do with its turn. It is the line of the sea's turn.
Speaker: The line of the sea is going to unleash two cannon strikes straight into ghost wing.
Speaker: both hit as you watch as Ghostwing takes these explosive um shots straight into the belly near where the jugular has just been attacked and Ghostwing lets out this almighty scream in agony.
Speaker: And with its third action
Speaker: it is going to sail.
Speaker: southward towards the Esmeralda.
Speaker: That is, that's turn. it is the Esmeralda's turn. Next, what would you like to do
Speaker: do? Uh, fuck. but That's not an option. So he's going how far what's my total movement speed?
Speaker: Of an action. 60 at the moment with the wind. 60. And that's one action. Yeah. One action. I get three actions just like the other. actions.
Speaker: i sixty Yeah. 60. sixty
Speaker: Who's on the ship? Who do I see on the deck of the ah lion? ah This distance. Make a perception check. 50 feet away.
Speaker: Yep.
Speaker: Ah, wonderful. That's a crit fail.
Speaker: I see shit. It's stormy, it's rainy, the the so ocean is glowing, cackling purple. There are maybe, on a scan, you can occasionally see 40, 50, 60, maybe 70 bodies on deck.
Speaker: Really hard to get any understanding. Wow, wow, wow.
Speaker: Wow. Okay. I will pull 90. nighty ah It's going to be hard to do.
Speaker: I'm going to sail. So for the listeners point of view, the lion, it's called the lion. The Lion of Sea.
Speaker: The Lion of the Sea. Yeah, the Lion has pulled just about 40 feet in front of me directly north from the Ezra Elder. And Nix is going sail true and follow the line north.
Speaker: And
Speaker: get his bow...
Speaker: towards the
Speaker: starboard side of the lion. So he's going to move 40 feet in total, which will bring him basically nose to just off starboard bow um of the lion.
Speaker: Yes, that's perfect. I should be able to see the helmsman from here. Mm-hmm.
Speaker: you see, well, it's kind of tiered. This this vessel is much taller than yours. So you would need to wait for the waves to kind of allow you that buoyancy.
Speaker: But over the course of a few seconds, you kind of get that ebb and flow. And you see someone who looks like a very aged version of Reigns.
Speaker: Oh, he's at the fucking helm.
Speaker: um... um Danny, how, in terms of visuals, I'm pulling up off starboard of the lion and their bow of the ship, I assume, has a long, elongated... um
Speaker: I don't know, stick? What do you call the very front of the... You know where they have the mass? The the thick the figurehead. The figurehead, yes. Yeah, which is just ah just a long wooden pole now because the the sphinxes that were underneath it were actual sphinxes.
Speaker: ah With the Esmeralda, the Esmeralda also has a ah quite an ornate wooden decarbe at the front of the ship. um In terms of height...
Speaker: Where's the Esmeralda compared to the lion? Oh, so it it sits... The lion sits above. So if you're thinking about like... I want to skewer the lion then with mine. You you would go into the hole. so I'm going into the hole. Yeah. i'm gonna I'm going for ah like a ram in motion.
Speaker: Yeah. And I'm trying to lock my... Nix's idea is to, if you imagine a piece of paper, the pen that i'm I've got in my hand is the front of the Esmeralda. And he's trying to get that pen stuck in the paper.
Speaker: Just pierce it. Yep.
Speaker: Let me just bring up the rules for that. Thank you. Trying to lock my ship into his, basically.
Speaker: Okay, so you need to roll essentially to hit. ah guess It's not going to be a very high DC. Just a D20. So it is a D20 plus um dexterity, please, the ship's dexterity.
Speaker: So that for you is minus two. ah Ah, and that's a 13. That will make contact. Okay, so the damage is the speed of the boat, which is 60, times 1d4 bludgeoning.
Speaker: Okay. And you're get you you are going to sustain half of this damage. So, two. So, it is 120 points of damage that you are going to inflict. You are going to sustain 60 points on your hull.
Speaker: Okay. So...
Speaker: the
Speaker: Esmeralda has 100 hit points on its hull. It will now have 40. And if you remember back to last time we were here, the hull basically equates to your modifier, has a negative modifier for every 10 hit points that you lose. So every time you roll anything on a d20 in this ship combat, you now and have to minus six the result.
Speaker: Okay? Okay. That's fine. Have I so successfully pierced it, though? Are we locked in? I've stupidly looked at the Esmeralda before I've looked the line, so give me one second. That's fine. You understand what I'm trying to visually do Yep.
Speaker: Penetrate it. Yeah. As only Nix can. As only Nix can. He's fucking the line. 120 points of damage. That's fucking sweet. Might only go in once, but it makes an impact when it does.
Speaker: Say it. You best hope he doesn't pull out because they both don't sink.
Speaker: It's a much bigger ship than you. Yeah. I was betting on that and I just want to lock lock it.
Speaker: I also need to know how many actions I've taken to get to this point. Just one so far. Ah, cool. Awesome. This is working as as I intended. This is cool. Yeah. Wait, Nick has a plan. I do.
Speaker: um
Speaker: all right. ah So yes, what I'll say is that you're able to kind of pierce the kind of tip figurehead of the Esmeralda through part of the Hulk.
Speaker: it's now the Esperanza is now kind of lodged in there and it's going to get dragged along with the Lion and the Snake when it next makes it move that's fine but for now you have kind of penetrated the hull right second attack action Nix's way in anchor okay Third attack and action. ah The spectral being at the bow of the ship um is going to, as the waves start to move and both ships kind of go and up and down, you've got that creaking of the wood.
Speaker: ah This is working for me, Nick. Keep going. ah All of a sudden... These ah spectral lights start to come from the side of the lion as if they're coming from the waters themselves, as if there's a being sending an essence up through the depths of the sea.
Speaker: There's about 10 of these spectral lights and they start to transpire around, I assume, Urion at the helm, whomever is helming the lion. And as these spectral lights start to sphere around the helmsman, they open.
Speaker: this gateway. And as this gateway opens, you see almost in it a far realm. It's in a region infested with unspeakable horrors.
Speaker: At a 20-foot radius, sphere of darkness appears, centered on a point of which, in range, and it is, lasting for the duration, which is one minute. The sphere is difficult terrain. It's filled with strange whispers and slurping noises, almost like spiders, like the incenses clicking away.
Speaker: A noise can be heard up to 30 feet away. No light, magical, or otherwise can illuminate the area, and creatures fully within it have the blinded condition. A creature that starts its turn in the area takes 2d6 cold damage. Any creature that ends its turn there must succeed on a dexterity saving throw or take 2d6 acid damage from otherworldly spider tentacles.
Speaker: As I cast Hunger of... Spider who swims. Nice. Do you want to go ahead and roll the the damage? Yes, I do. amazing
Speaker: Baller play. That's five points of cold damage. Cool. That's specifically on the helm. Specifically on the helm. Okay. 20 foot sphere.
Speaker: ah The Esmeralda has pierced the lion and got itself lodged. You said lodged enough for it to be pulled with. And the Esmeralda's weighed anchor.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: That's the end of my go. as Thank you. Nick bows towards Urien. But Urien can't fucking see him because he's in darkness. Boom! Eight of celestial spirits all bow as well. Yes! 80 of my spirits Yeah, they bow in unison. So the moment that you contacted the ship,
Speaker: the... Andrew Sphinx is going to take a legendary action and it's going to legendary teleport and it's just going to appear on the Esmeralda. Oh, fuck.
Speaker: And just roars at you. That's all it can do. okay. Okay. Like the scene from The Mummy, when The Mummy roars at Ben and Fraser, Nick's just going to go, bleh!
Speaker: Back. Just without the shotgun. This giant lion with wings glowing all sorts of hell holy is just there on your hull.
Speaker: It's Ghostwing's turn. Ghostwing
Speaker: is going to move slightly closer to the severed compass and just shout, bleh! I cannot move against the lion, but I can get that thing out the sky.
Speaker: And it's going to then about face. And it's going to unleash. you can do this.
Speaker: It's got 90 foot range. It is going to unleash... its acid breath straight through but like between the sails of the Esmeralda catching the Androsphinx who has to make a deck save
Speaker: it's going to take 15d8 points of damage which I am digitally going to roll because that's too many downs oh no fuck math So this very hurt and injured ghost wing yells down to you, Baal, Alfa and Tharok turns and you just see this kind of belly and gullet begin to hiss and boil and just unleashes this large cylinder of acidic breath straight through the Esmeralda.
Speaker: And it's going to fly slightly closer, but above the range of the cannons.
Speaker: That's what's going happen right now. Top the round. Severed Compass, you're up. Oh, God.
Speaker: So cannons are still on the wrong side, but what we can do is technically move forward, turn, and shoot.
Speaker: When are we getting on board that thing? I've got to... You know, the longer we try and play around with this, the damage goes to he's going to take. That's true. we can get on and take Yuri on down, that android thing's going to stop, I think.
Speaker: So, we think, try to get... because it's We've seen Nix's ship smash it and drop anchor and kind of try and hold it in place. he's literally trying to get He's basically created a boarding ram.
Speaker: Mechanically, we can't board unless the other so ship's speed is zero. I'm pretty sure was some of the rules that we talked about before. And to all intents and purposes, that seems to be the case. Is is that right, Danny?
Speaker: And but what can Wildfire Spirit do? ah Well, he can only move us 15 feet or teleport us 15 feet. But I think I'm with you guys in the sense of let's try and get ourselves...
Speaker: Push comes to shove, we can all fly as well.
Speaker: Can Alpha fly? No, I can't fly. Oh. I can fall slowly, but that's about it. Oh, shit. And then he can breathe on the water. What speed can you fly at?
Speaker: Me, Farrok. Yeah. The cape, whatever the cape is. No, you, Darren. No.
Speaker: Because I've got 30 feet. You've got the the cloak technically can be. do
Speaker: It's whatever the fly spell allows, which I think is 20 feet. Well, fly is 60. I think it's faster than that. Fly is 60, yeah. m And, Alpha, you can cast fly on yourself. Basically, i wonder if try... I can't cast fly on myself. You can't, so you're fucked.
Speaker: Cool. You can go down the ship. Well, let's save flying for if we need it. I think you have the mech to get close enough. Okay. I'm strong enough to probably do it, but you're fucking heavy, but I'm am'm strong, so...
Speaker: So what Barr will do is he will shout down to the crew, be ready to board. And ah
Speaker: I guess we need to get close to it, don't we? So it makes sense for us to start beating it forwards. All right. Yeah. Yeah, use an action to get ourselves closer. we're facing right, we can get six. Oh wait, we're not in wind now, are we? So we're 45 feet is what we can do. So one movement action will kind of bring you back around the rear of the vessel.
Speaker: Cool. But your angle is kind of moving away from it. So you might also want to include a turn action. Yeah, which makes sense because we need to get next to don't we? What we don't want to do is line up right next to his cannons.
Speaker: nope No, no. Yeah, right now you're just kind of shy of that cone, the firing cone that it's got. Can we... Can we... Turn and try and ram its arsehole?
Speaker: Can we DP this bridge? Are we going TP? We're going to high five over the fucking mast. After the... Yeah, after you're in. Penetrate it and drop anger again. We're making him the suspension bridge, baby. Yeah.
Speaker: yeah we i We need a ship. We need a ship.
Speaker: We hit him from behind. We're going to jump straight into the hunger. His ship's gone fucking holes all over the place. At the minute, the helm's got hunger of Hadar on it or hunger of the spider on it. Yeah. yeah Thank you. Well, we need to we need to be making contact, don't we? but we like Maybe not ramming speed, but we need to turn regardless. So we need to have a turn action.
Speaker: And then do we want to sidle up to its arsehole is what I'm basically suggesting for this turn.
Speaker: If we do that, we well, we can board this turn, but we have to jump into the hunger.
Speaker: What? No, we don't. Is that the back of the ship? We'd be boarding on the back of the ship. The helm of the ship. Yeah. The helm at the back of the front. 20 foot sphere, though. You do have to be aware of it.
Speaker: Which we don't want to do. Yeah. but if we see that, you wouldn't go clambering into a schluffy spider hole, would you? no no No, but we do want to get on that ship before that takes its next turn. At the minute, it'ss we don't know if it's going to remain stationary on its turn. we need to That's true.
Speaker: Either way, we can't get closer to it without turning, so our second action's got to be a turn, right? You can teleport Tharok on there. I can just teleport Tharok on there. Fucking Rambo. Just teleport him on there.
Speaker: I've got vortex warpers prepared in the spell and I can teleport the creature ah up to 90 feet. What the fuck are waiting for? Do I just ah just give Maris the fucking ship? And we take two player actions? one way i i can only teleport one person and I can't teleport myself.
Speaker: oh you can't Oh, you can't go... I can't teleport myself. Unfortunately. There has to be a creature I can see. And you can't misty step or do anything.
Speaker: God, you're useless. you know He's not a strong dragonborn. like Can I carry? Oh, I've carried Alpha before, but that was with the other cape, wasn't it? Hold on.
Speaker: Tharok's got a fucking cape. I'm happy they take off. I can fly without cape. Can't you teleport? Can't you vortex yourself? no No, no, I can't. It has to be a creature I can see within range.
Speaker: Trouble is, it's all the way out. I'll give you a mirror. It's not that far away. Right. Danny. Yep. Is it plausible, is it plausible if Barl grew some wings that he'd be able to carry alpha across?
Speaker: Providing he the movement speed. I'm happy to try it as well. button I think if if one of you took half an alpha each, then yes. Yeah? Yeah.
Speaker: So we could technically this turn, just just mechanically, we technically this turn, if we both if we use two player actions, Tharup and Baal, to get those flight mechanics going, we'd be able to get ourselves over and onto the ship.
Speaker: Sure. yeah Yeah, we could just fly over there. Then, obviously discussing this in less than six seconds... ah oh but Pointing to the burnt compass on the floor, going, Baal will just quickly shout...
Speaker: Maras, it's all yours. And he's abandoning ship by using his feature, which is draconic flight. ah So I've got 10 minutes of flight. It's similar. It looks very similar to the Cape of Exploding flight.
Speaker: um but it's kind of these spectral wings in fact fuck I think let' let's say let's get Danny let's get Darren to do his first because I know exactly what will happen I would just say give us that way if
Speaker: talk about fire yeah thought well well actually can I do this because my sword's currently aflame so sword is aflame there's also kind of lentens around as well yeah Does that impact the cloak?
Speaker: It just turns everything off. All of the turns turn things off yeah all sources of flame within 120 feet of you are extinguished in order for you to activate it, which is the entire ship. Okay. I will activate the cape. like the cape You also take a d8 of fire damage, sorry.
Speaker: I know that we told you about that part. you're dead You did, you did. It's all right.
Speaker: You gain flight speed equal to half your movement speed, which I think is 20 feet for you. Yes. Yep. I take five points of fire damage. Great.
Speaker: Cool. That looks fucking cool. And Bar will activate. Now, finally, haha his draconic flight. And it is flaming spectral wings come out of his back. They look very similar to what the cape did, just not red. And ah he'll take one half of alpha. Okay. Okay.
Speaker: We're going to pause there. We'll get to the end of this round of combat, and then we'll move into something more local now that you three are boarded. But essentially, you'll be landing with the speed that Tharok is able to kind of muster in one turn. You'll only just make it onto the helm.
Speaker: You'll literally be handing ah landing at the edge of that hunger spell.
Speaker: okay We still have one like action left, don't we? No. No. Barl's action, Tharok's action. And I've kind of oh we had the movement yeah given it's given some freedom there for you to be lifted as well. No, that's fine. So, no. You have a bonus action if that's useful?
Speaker: Can Barl ignite his wildfire spirit? Yes, you can. cool I will reignite the fire. will reignite the flame sword. Now we're landed. So, boom, flaming wings, more flaming wings, taking Alpha, then more fire. tell you what, no, I won't. I will wait a turn. and i won no No, I will do that. I will do that. yep That's what I'm doing, because it will look good.
Speaker: You've got sword in one hand, Alpha in the other hand. yeah i Okay, I'm not doing that. I rage with my second action. Fucking heavy cunt fuck. ah that Okay.
Speaker: It is the Ando Sphinx's turn. And the Ando Sphinx, now on deck of the Esmeralda, is just going to stomp towards Unix. And it is going to unleash hell.
Speaker: Sorry, reading. It's very long list of abilities. Literally. You see Emron. Best day of me life. Okay, it's going to make two claw attacks against you.
Speaker: Is that 20 in a 22? That'll be fine! Against me or the ship. Against you, specifically, Nyx. that's That's fine. It hits, both hits.
Speaker: There's a lot of dice being rolled.
Speaker: There's many dice being rolled. 37 points of slashing damage. In total? In total. Yikes. That's fun. thirty seven points of slashing damage in total in total yikes that's fun
Speaker: cool cool cool and that was against nix not any of the specters that was specifically against nix specifically against nix you were at the helm no spider was coming to save me or anything like that no nothing just all that nix specifically at nix that's great so it's boarded as well it's done what these guys have have thought about doing so happy right now it's a constant it's a concentration check as well for hunger That's true.
Speaker: The DC is 19? 18? Don't like you. How much damage was it overall? 36. So that's half. Yeah, it's 18 DC. DC of 18 con save to keep concentration.
Speaker: DC 18. Yeah, correct. Come on. What? I need to make 18. You need to beat 18 because of the amount of damage that you took. It's half the overall damage because it was over 20. That's fucking bullshit. I've got heroic inspiration. What does that do?
Speaker: You can add a d6 to your roll. I'm adding a D6. I'm using my heroics inspiration. Here we go. ah good job too, because that 16. All right, let's go. Oh, cool. Go on.
Speaker: No ones, no ones. Yeah, buddy! That's a full seven! Let's fucking go! Can't you get seven off a D6? I know. It rolled two D6s. i but one i that the smallest one The smallest one was a two. There's a two and a five.
Speaker: So it's still, it may. Nick's dice. Nick's dice. You've been reading the book of bullshit. Why'd it roll two? You make your save. I literally just made the save though. If we go for the lowest one, fuck.
Speaker: It's going to fly and it is going to engage ghost wings. and it is going to take another, ah ah can't just yet, and it is the lion's turn, it is the lion of the sea's turn.
Speaker: Now, it's got one ship wedged inside it. So what it's going to do is it's going to attempt a turn action to try and pry you out. Now, what I'm going to do is I'm going to treat this like a reverse grapple. So I need you to roll strength for the Esmeralda Nyx, which is...
Speaker: A plus five. okay But because your hull is so significantly damaged, whatever you roll, you then need to minus six. The lion and snake, that hull is damaged too, so they do have a negative modifier on their rolls. But essentially, it's it's kind of a grapple off.
Speaker: um Just because of your math, it's minus one overall. You suck my balls. You know it. I totally did. What did you roll? a six plus the five minus the six.
Speaker: 5. It rolled a 17 on its strength check. So it is going to kind of just turn and as it does you just hear wood splintering and breaking as it's able to just maneuver away from you. And it's going to turn so that both ships are aligned to both sets of broadsides.
Speaker: Oh shit. ah and the esmeralda is going to take one round a cannon fire and the severed compass is going to take the other
Speaker: not my wedding present you fuck
Speaker: At least we're not on me Oh god. The chair. but And they they're going for
Speaker: the hull of both vessels. It's a 19 to hit. Is that with the minus?
Speaker: With the minus, yeah. Applied. and Which hits the hull hits it the hull of both of your vessels.
Speaker: Well, God dang. 22 points of bludgeoning damage which exceeds both thresholds.
Speaker: ah So that takes...
Speaker: that takes the separate compass down to 78 hit points overall, which means you have minus two to all D20 rolls on the severed compass. Uh,
Speaker: you can all track that on the D and D beyond tabletop as well. Uh, The hull of the Esmeralda, however, which is on 40 hit points, is now going to drop to 18 hit points.
Speaker: So you have a minus 8 to every d20 roll. It's fun times. Fun times. And the Esmeralda is close to sinking.
Speaker: Yeah. Again.
Speaker: That is all the Lion of the Sea can do. ah But you watch as both of these creatures in the sky are taking their legendary actions against each other. First, the Androsphinx is going to make a claw attack at, oh no, oh no, it's not. It's going to cast a spell on Ghostwing.
Speaker: as you watch this holy cone of flaring light just penetrate through the skies straight into Ghostwing, who is able to nimbly dodge most of the flare
Speaker: and takes half the damage that I just rolled. I won't tell you what that is.
Speaker: In return, Ghostwing's going to use its legendary action
Speaker: to make a tail attack to try and fend off the Andrus.
Speaker: Who so far has only really been hit by the one Eldritch Blast. Sorry, two Eldritch Blasts.
Speaker: Yes, for like four points of force damage. Oh yeah, the thing four important points. Yeah, and yeah, ego points. But is as kind of the Androsphinx comes in with a claw and Ghostwing returns with its tail hit, as the creatures kind of engage and then disengage simultaneously, Ghostwing looks worse for wear after that, for sure.
Speaker: ah It is now the Esmeralda's turn. What would you like to do next? Ah, Nix looks around at the Esmeralda, takes in the battered hull, the splintered wood, the sound effects of a ship dying, which is just wood creaking and splintering and water starting to rush in.
Speaker: And his eyes cast over the helm of the ship and kind of lovingly ah places his hand and fondles the, the wheel where captain Hildegard would come command and steer and lead.
Speaker: And almost this kind of Russia memories flood through him almost in that sepia color toning. And he's just reminded of what this ship was and what it used to mean.
Speaker: As he pats it, he just says to himself in 80 voices, it's a final song.
Speaker: Way anchor. The anchor comes up and with all the speed he can muster, he's going straight for the side of, he's going straight north.
Speaker: He's going to run the Esmeralda. north into the lion, but the spectral being on the bow of the ship is going to hold an action.
Speaker: And the area that the Esmeralda hit before you said it cracked and it pierced. And so it would have left a hole. As soon as the Esmeralda comes into contact just before, just the moment before collision, the,
Speaker: I want to cast a third level shatter in the hole that I had done previously through my spectral being at the bow of the ship. So you have three actions there. I move.
Speaker: Yep. Lift the anchor. Yep. And then cast shatter. Yep. At the point of impact. Yep. Okay. That's everything. That's all I've got.
Speaker: You drive essentially back into ah the vessel. I need you to make another ram attack, please, which is d20 plus the ship's dexterity.
Speaker: Which is minus two. Which is minus three. which was ah Sorry, yeah, have minus two. And I've got minus what on the roll? Eight.
Speaker: so So I got minus 10 to whatever I roll.
Speaker: Okay. I believe in you. i believe in me. It's going to be a two. 12 minus the 10. It doesn't meet the AC of the the ship's hull as you kind of sail into it and you just kind of knock against it and brush. There isn't enough kind of penetrating force there, but yeah nonetheless, it still triggers the shatter.
Speaker: Yeah. Let's fucking go. ah So how do I do this? Because a shatter is a con 16. The ship has con. it's like I've got rolls for that. Don't worry. Okay, cool. So a loud noise. um So the spectral being glows more purple. Like it almost, that light takes over his entire being as it starts to form this electrical current. And then from the center of the spectral being into the whole of the lion shatter. And this purple lightning starts to emanate from within the hull of the ship and explodes out.
Speaker: ah So, Each creature in a 10-foot radius sphere, centered, makes a constitucent saving and throw, which is 16, taking 3d8 thunder damage on a fail save or half as much on a successful one.
Speaker: It failed itself. construct has disadvantage on this save. There's no constructs, but good to know. um But it failed a save. So ahead and roll full damage. Let's fucking go That's awful. That's awful. Six points of thunder damage.
Speaker: Wow, that was a two, three, and a one.
Speaker: As Nick salutes, as the Esmeralda goes down. Final song, baby!
Speaker: Thank you, though. It is Ghostwing's turn, and Ghostwing, ah engaged with the Androsphinx, is going to just unleash...
Speaker: Ah,
Speaker: it's going to use its frightful presence ability because it's also about 30 feet, no, about 15 feet behind the line of the sea.
Speaker: It actually is in range to target all of the crew on that vessel and the Androsphinx.
Speaker: And it's going to attempt to frighten everyone in its vicinity, not any allies, and know anyone that you sail with.
Speaker: As it lets out this kind of stunning aura around it that kind of pierces through the will of everyone on these vessel this vessel, ah the Andros thinks it's failing and will have to flee on its next turn.
Speaker: crew, however, fared a bit better, but it will be chaotic when we move into the next part of this. So as we leave this round of the initiative, at this point, we're going to kind of...
Speaker: You can no longer control the severed compass. So the severed compass is just going to rotate... with two actions so that all four of its cannons are now facing the hull of the vessel and it's going to unleash four sorry one shot at the line of the sea and it's going to hit remind me your cannon damage if you've got it in front of you please uh 3d10 yep
Speaker: yeah cool
Speaker: Go on, Maris, not Marek. You just met the damage threshold. ah as
Speaker: When you land on deck, you're flying over this scene, and you just while you're flying over very slowly and carefully not to drop Alpha, you just see... Maris, continue with your order. Turn the ship around. Unleash this volley. And as you land, you feel this almighty shot smack into the hull of this that causes this massive kind of explosion below deck beneath you as the hull sustains some decent damage from that shot.
Speaker: It's the Andesphinx's turn. And the Andesphinx, now keenly um aware of how fearful it is of Ghostwing, must use this turn
Speaker: to run away its full speed from ghost wing. That's all it can do. It's the line of the seas turn. At this point, I'm going to reduce the actions that are available because three people are boarded. so I'm only going to offer one action. In that one action again, it is going to
Speaker: fire on the Esmeralda and fire on The Soviet compass. Question. Yep. The hunger. Hey, got Hey, da. Like, but where is that?
Speaker: It's so it's, it's on the helm. I'm tracking that damage each round. Oh, okay. Awesome. Thank you. It's, it's, it's doing bits, but the bits it's doing, you won't see until we're on the boarding phase, but I'm tracking that, tracking that the background.
Speaker: and Okay. It rolled. a with its neck it rolled 14 against the hull of the esmeralda does that hit the esmeralda forget i've got that stat front of me sorry i was gonna say i don't know no it does it does not ac of 15 there you go but it crit against the severed compass so there is gonna be one almighty shot back at the severed compass
Speaker: my wedding present like guys I have the crew as well, yes, I suppose. I suppose they're kind of valuable. Maris, no. It's going to do 59 points of damage against the Severed Compass, ah leaving the Severed Compass on 19 hit points.
Speaker: We can get you new ship.
Speaker: ah It is the Esmeralda's turn. Nyx.
Speaker: kind of all eyes are on you as you kind of, in the buoyant moments, just see on deck Baal, Tharok and Alpha. What would you do? Your ship is barely hanging on.
Speaker: Your friends and your husband are on deck. You are literally... The Esmeralda is contacting the line of the sea.
Speaker: ah Aww...
Speaker: Ah, you motherfucker. Okay, I... do you stay with the ship you love or join the man you married?
Speaker: Find out next week. I am going to... Da-da-da-da-da!
Speaker: and Everything you do will have a minus eight modifier if it's based off a d20
Speaker: Yup, yup, yup, yup, yup. Yup, yup, yup, yup, yup. Yup, yup, yup, yup,
Speaker: yeah ye yep yep yep yup.
Speaker: I am going to, ah walk from the, as Nick shakes his head as a plan starts to form, um, aside from the emotional turmoil of leaving the Esmeralda again, he'll walk, he'll let go the helm. So he'll suddenly lose 80 eyes worth of sight as he does. So, and he's going to walk across the hull of the Esmeralda, towards the bow of the ship.
Speaker: Am I within jump distance because of how close I got? yeah Yeah. The two ships are rubbing side by side. He's going to walk, and if he's at the starboard side, this might, you'll have to tell me on which side. um As he walks and leaves the, that,
Speaker: bow with the long elongated ah front of the Esmeralda as he leaves and looks back at it one last time just to kind of almost nod towards the ship that's beginning to sink.
Speaker: ah He casts his eyes before he jumps to the lion. I want to find the anchor of the lion.
Speaker: Do I see it? Not from this position.
Speaker: Not from kind of observing the small hole you could see and then literally facing all of the little gunnery hatches of these cannons. On deck, there's just kind of too much chaos.
Speaker: And I need to see if what I want to do is a bonus action. Think it is. Gonna check it real quick. Because I don't know what a bonus action is.
Speaker: Should be. Should be.
Speaker: Should be. It is. Look at that. Fuck yeah. Okay, cool. ah So I'm going to...
Speaker: that'll work. I just want to keep that ship from moving. So I'm going to bonus action. Misty step to the crow's nest of the lion. Okay.
Speaker: Do I now see where they use the anchor? Yes. I will mage hand and drop it.
Speaker: What is the strength of mage hand? What can you lift? There is a rule. think it's five pound. Should be enough just to because it's all should be tightened on a wheel.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: It's 10 pounds. 30 feet is fine. It can't attack, ah activate magic items, or carry more than £10, as per the rule.
Speaker: Just needs to dislodge it. The weight of the anchor will take itself. ah Yes, I'll allow it. Fuck yeah! That thing ain't moving, nah!
Speaker: but you Essentially, you've done a Nick's turn because you've left the ship. Yeah. That's why I did bonus action. And that's why I used action. Yeah, yeah. yeah yeah okay I used movement, bonus action, full action.
Speaker: And as as he's at the crow's nest and he's done all that, he does take one last kind of long in look at the Esmeralda. And then... refocuses his vision. He's just checking where Baal is.
Speaker: So Tharok, Alpha, Hunger of the Great Old One is still up and running because I haven't used any concentration spells. Everything is fucking planned and he's just there and know standing above.
Speaker: Oh, let's fucking go, guys.
Speaker: And as you and you use that Mage Hand ability,
Speaker: release that anchor. to me your last moment, looking at the Esmeralda,
Speaker: it just dissipates into dust as though it was never there. and And in a few seconds, all you can just see is a thin layer of ash just getting washed beneath the line of the sea.
Speaker: And as you look down on the deck,
Speaker: You see a different scene. You see some Shadomindian sailors fleeing in terror from Ghostwing.
Speaker: You see your black nebulous spherical spell obscuring your view, but you're fairly certain you just by the top of Baal's head from your angle.
Speaker: You see in the far to the far south, a fleeing androsphinx flying as quick as it can away from the battle.
Speaker: And then as you look kind of westwards, you see a lifeless sinking corpse of ghost wing.
Speaker: Oh, fuck.
Speaker: Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. And a scream of anger
Speaker: from on deck.
Speaker: And that's where going to end this week's episode of The Fellowship of the Tabletop, Bellum Draconis. Oh, shee shitty titties. Oops. Oops, oops, oops.
Speaker: I didn't kill him. It's all Yeah, focus on the positives. We're on the deck where we need to be.
Speaker: Oh. Some heavy hits. Fuck. Heavy hits. Heavy times. Tune in next week, guys, to find out how we get on.
Speaker: We are the Fellowship at the Tabletop. Callum's bold. Farewell. Farewell, beware.
