In this episode, Dr. Brett Scott sits down with Justin Roethlingshoefer to discuss stress and heart rate variability! Today's episode also really focuses around what is holistically integrated health, and what is "fake health".

Justin and Brett dive into what holistic, integrated health is and what it looks like. They also focus on stress and chronic illness, how stress leads to chronic illness, and how to prevent this. They talked about what true health really is, how to achieve it, and how it leads to optimized performance. They discussed the eight pillars/foundations of health, and look at how these are related to heart rate variability or HRV. There are many things that we don't understand about stress, and how it truly affects our overall well being. In this episode, they go over how nutrition, exercise, hydration, sleep, self care, immune function, environment, and mindset, all can affect our health, and how we use, or can use, heart rate variability to be an indicator of whether we're doing something that is improving our overall health or not.

Justin has a 15 year career as a Performance Director in the NHL and NCAA, and did his post grad in functional medicine. He's also spoken at ton of ton of events, including TEDx. He is the author of three books, including Intent, a Practical Approach to Applied Sport Science for Athletic Development. He's the creator of his own app called the Ownit app, which provides simple data collection, meaningful insights, and personalized plans to help users own their habits and improve recovery health and performance. Justin hosts his own podcast called The Sports Science and Recovery Podcast. In 2021 he founded Ownit, which has become a very successful company or coaching company that applies this health and performance philosophy to NHL stars, fortune 500, executives and entrepreneurs looking to take the next step in their lives to realize their true health. From sleeping better, to mental clarity, reduced anxiety increased energy, he and his team had been providing solutions to 1000s of people over the last two years!
