WILD ONEZ: Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday dear Sarah.

WILD ONEZ: Happy birthday to you.

WILD ONEZ: Because that was the most wholesome thing. Okay, hello and welcome to the Wild Ones Podcast. This is officially episode 11. Where are we at today?

WILD ONEZ: Oh, it's your host, Ben, and Sarah. We're so excited to join you live after Orcas Island. It was an incredible day. was very, very difficult. We'll get into nitty gritty, but we are live from Orcas Island right now.

WILD ONEZ: And we have so many people in the room with us right now. So hopefully you can hear everybody. It will be a live studio audience podcast, and we have some really cool People in the chat, literally this is going to be a full race report.

WILD ONEZ: A full race recap from so many people because we all did the same race but had so many different experiences. welcome to Wild Ones. Would you look at that? It is the evening of the race day. Where's the fun today?

WILD ONEZ: We stopped and we saw all the all the cool views along the way. Sarah, how many trees did you stop at? It had to have been like half a dozen. I'm like, we gotta stop. Like, I just admire this tree. this tree! It was a really cool tree. It was actually a really cool tree. And then the really cool tree that had the other little trees around it to protect it.

WILD ONEZ: Yeah. It was really cute. It a cool moment. I was like, aww. We did count dogs. There's only like five dogs today. It was very low dog count. It wasn't a very long race if we counted in dogs.

WILD ONEZ: No. Pretty minimal actually. We did yell parkour about 20 times. Yeah, it' a bur it depends on how many, how we want to count this race.

WILD ONEZ: Dogs, parkours, potential Menti V's happening on the course. There's a lot of Menti V's actually. ah Yeah, that was a moment.

WILD ONEZ: oh that's That's our day in a nutshell. Yeah. But today we have some of our best swimrun friends with us and then some else also some friends who have just tried swimrun for their first time today. So we're really excited to...

WILD ONEZ: have them share what they thought about today. where do we want to start? I know, I was just thinking that. we We've planned nothing. We're completely winging it. Yeah, this is winging it.

WILD ONEZ: We'll introduce everybody, and then we'll kind of go connect. So if you're a minute this far enough, so... Two minutes and 50 seconds, guys. Let's go. Thanks for hanging with us. There's going to be a lot of voices, so hope you guys follow along and enjoy this race report with us.

WILD ONEZ: We're to kick it off with our newbies to swimrun. You want introduce yourself. And you guys just did your first race today.

WILD ONEZ: going to talk about how you guys met each other and what you guys thought about today.

WILD ONEZ: Yeah, hi. I'm Erin Key. And I'm a lot of the road. And we are from Portland. and this is your a <unk> I think a couple of years ago, came to Orcas Island with my parents.

WILD ONEZ: My mom had gotten an Airbnb, and my daughter and I came out to Orcas. And on the Saturday of that weekend, I went to go find the trail run, and I looked at it like, where should I go for trail run on Orcas Island?

WILD ONEZ: And said, I'm around State Park. So I went over there, and then there were these weird people running on the road with sweat.

WILD ONEZ: when up

WILD ONEZ: and started becoming really curious. I love how that's how you first started or like, getting curious about it. How it and you're like, what is this? Because you saw these very delirious humans in the woods running around with a wetsuit. Well, I think it was the day before.

WILD ONEZ: So people were doing the shakeout at the swim part the day before. And we were running around and just the outfits got my attention. Hey, hey, the outfit.

WILD ONEZ: There you go, our costumes, I love. Yeah, our costumes. We're in the Saturday, we're in the Saturday. We're definitely iconic.

WILD ONEZ: But it was a couple years later. Yeah. like yeah we We met a master swimming group we do like an open water group within that group.

WILD ONEZ: I started triathlon last year and learned about swim run. I thought it sounded crazy, but what I loved before triathlon was hiking.

WILD ONEZ: And what I love about open water swimming is that it puts me in this kind of backpacking calm from nature kind of state of being, like instantly yeah instead of like three days into a trip.

WILD ONEZ: So the swim run sounded like, you know, exploring the wild, with swimming and it was just beautiful today. We did the shortest distance but it was so beautiful. You guys did the experience, right? We did.

WILD ONEZ: Yeah. It was so fun. so Such a beautiful day for it. Yeah, I think we started planning like last year. Probably signed up in December or November or something. yeah What does your guys' training look like knowing that you were coming into this for your first race and having decided in december and now it's may so you guys had five months for

WILD ONEZ: like that yeah and eliza swims outdoors in portland all year like season during the winter that's not chilly yeah yeah I'm not that hard for it.

WILD ONEZ: So I started getting in the water early just to get used to the pool, which really paid off today.

WILD ONEZ: And I've been training for a half Ironman anyway, so I'm still a part of it. Oh, that's awesome. did you get a half Ironman? Last weekend. Oh, so you went from half Ironman into six months.

WILD ONEZ: Yes, and that's reason why.

WILD ONEZ: How did your guys' bodies feel after today? Great. I feel fine. I could have run up and down the stairs. That was because... Can you tether to me and pull me up and down the stairs then? That was only because it was a short distance.

WILD ONEZ: I recognize you guys feel differently today. We'll see how I feel tomorrow. far, so good. What are your thoughts on maybe like future of swim run for you?

WILD ONEZ: Well, we've already started looking up. So what's next on the calendar? Well, we looked Colorado, and that is the same weekend as the Portland Marathon. Swim marathon, swim run, marathon. run Swim run.

WILD ONEZ: Yeah, we just found our groove in the water. That was the best part. The lake is gorgeous, first of all. But then, yeah, I just felt really comfortable and relaxed in the water.

WILD ONEZ: And so we started talking about like, oh wait, we need a swim around that's like swim heavy. Colorado. Colorado is very, that would be our jam. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

WILD ONEZ: Could you explain the experience course? Like what where you guys started? We all started at the same Rosario, but what did the course look like for you guys? So it was quick run, like uphill, but Good, because you got warmed up about a mile, I think.

WILD ONEZ: And then you hop in the really cold water. Short, cold swim. Cold. yeah Yeah. And then you head up, up, up, all the way to Cascade Lake.

WILD ONEZ: I don't know. that's cool So then you have a long run. Go up and around Cascade Lake, up and to the swim beach. And then to... the longer swim right in a row pretty much like you do it yeah short little round

WILD ONEZ: What did you guys think of the push jump? I loved It scared me. I had to scream. It was a little less dramatic than I thought.

WILD ONEZ: She's the hardcore one. It was perfectly scary for I was nervous when jumping on the engine, but I probably

WILD ONEZ: I was going to say, you know what made it awesome was that we came up to the cliff jump with about three or four other women all at the same time. And they seemed way more unsure. And the two of us were all like, oh, we know how to do it. You hold the paddles like this. And put your goggles in. Don't lose your goggles. Walked up there so confidently.

WILD ONEZ: And they were all like, yeah, that's awesome. And then we turned around and cheered on the woman who jumped in behind us. Oh, I love that. That's really cool.

WILD ONEZ: Oh, that's incredible. There's little community there. I really love that about swimrun, though, is, like, you meet so many friends along the way. Like, you'll be, like, going back and forth between sometimes it's the same teams all day long, and you're just kind of, like, shooting the shit with them, like, because somebody, you know, one team's, like, a little bit faster swimming, one team's a little faster they're running, and so then you kind of, like, catch up to each other along the way somewhere, and you really...

WILD ONEZ: We totally did that. Yeah. Also, I've got a really funny story. Yeah. We have met yeah, we just met a lot of people today. so We met a guy in the parking lot named Austin.

WILD ONEZ: and I don't really, I guess we just were parking near each other. and then we like saw him kind of around before the race started. He was doing the sprint. His wife was doing the experience with her, somebody's sister. Anyway, whatever.

WILD ONEZ: the race we're sitting around folks are finishing the sprint and this guy who looks just like austin comes in and the announcer says like patrick has finished the race we're like i swear that's austin and then we stared at him for five or ten minutes turns out it's his middle name oh he goes by his middle name yeah okay okay i even correct it yeah so we spent the longest time anyway all It's like not asking about Austin.

WILD ONEZ: We got Austin and he had two different colors of Miseo tape on his leg. And this Patrick character who had only one color. Wait. So we were like, how are we like campy missing guy? Wait, so is it? You can sperm with him?

WILD ONEZ: We did. Yeah, the tape fell off. I was like, we gotta get to the bottom of this.

WILD ONEZ: amazing oh well one of my favorite stories of this weekend is how kate adopted a frenchie named tilo um this weekend first swim run absolutely crushed it had to catch a fairy absolutely crushed it like 545 on the course solo for his first swim run yeah yeah freaking beast yeah e peace yeah

WILD ONEZ: We'll teach you. But that's what the Sunrise community is. We will just adopt you. And we'll have to go more in the Wild Ascent. But Erin is part of our Wild Ascent crew, which is for women kind of getting more into mentors and mentees, kind getting more into to

WILD ONEZ: And so did Ascent help you prepare a little bit more for this race? Yeah, I was going to say when Sarah was talking about how you guys prepared, was probably even more like just figuring this finding your guys' podcasts and the Low Tide Boys.

WILD ONEZ: I found Facebook group. I can't even remember now. what it was called, but I had gone on there like asking about equipment because I didn't, I wasn't really sure I wanted, when Eliza brought it up, I wasn't sure I wanted to buy, I've done triathlon for a while, I've spent too much money on it.

WILD ONEZ: I wasn't quite ready to just buy some new stuff. And so I put on this Facebook group and then Trista was on there and Trista invited me to the WhatsApp and then loaned me course and equipment and everything before we got here that's awesome yeah but i i want to hear that because i there are some people who do just generally like show like i helped um

WILD ONEZ: know experience with you guys. I saw them. And actually, I'm one of my actual cool boys. So i was only able to acquire one, but I was like, this will help you guys so much.

WILD ONEZ: And was able to give them pointers and like, just kind of adopt them as well. And to be like, hey, you know, if you guys do need anything, let us know. Because we will help anybody who's curious about it, whether it's your first time, second time, your first time.

WILD ONEZ: ah dual time like each other and i'm so so happy you guys felt that love because that's what we try do in this sport is like we don't want to scare you away right away i feel like we're reciprocating like the same love and treatment that we got when we came into this sport though because came into the sport what was it like 2021 or 22 four We had no idea what were doing. We were with a big group of people. Marcus and Beeks and Trista and Amy. We had some low-type boys. They an entire FaceTime call with our crew. was just, hey, here's what the sport is.

WILD ONEZ: Chris and Tripper were, shout out to the low-type boys. They were awesome with that. Literally, everybody who's adopted us since. like we just share that pretty special. Oh, and I have to say, there's also just a pretty special like women community.

WILD ONEZ: So, we were talking about, like even just the sense of the atmosphere at the race and at the finish line, it was not like super male.

WILD ONEZ: I mean, it just wasn't like dominated by This year was amazing. We had fourteen women's teams yeah registered for this race, which I think is a record.

WILD ONEZ: so it was really cool to see. There was more women's teams today than I think men's teams. I think so. We might have to fact check that.

WILD ONEZ: But the fact that we had 14 across sprint, short, or experience and long, like, World Series distance was just incredible. Because there's been years where, like, Sarah and I come in, we're like one of three. Yeah.

WILD ONEZ: so the sheer fact if you finish you are guaranteed a podium and Viv and the other two times we've raced this race we've come in first place here we were back to back for a minute and today we very happy party pacing no podium today full party pace yeah it's okay we uh it was a great training day we might have cursed a mountain picket Yeah, who put two mountains on this course? Right, right. We put two mountains on this course. So we can curse Brian. He already knows I cursed him, like, to his face.

WILD ONEZ: This won't be news for him. Down the mountain. Multiple times. The finish line. like Okay, but okay. I think my favorite thing is that, like, halfway up Mount Pickard down one of them, we were like... Constitution! Constitution?

WILD ONEZ: Was it? Constitution.

WILD ONEZ: Fern a friend. Oh, we saw so many ferns. And we're like, Sarah's like, I wish we could phone a friend right now. I was like, oh, look at the ferns. They're so cute. And she goes, what if we fern a friend?

WILD ONEZ: was like, oh my god.

WILD ONEZ: and i was like well if you listen to our podcast you don't stop talking we have podcast about it so it was cool to see that sarah and i had a really tough day we had some something happen at the beginning of the race um that kind of took a lot of time we're glad to like help out with that situation but it definitely like We had to kind of come back into a rhythm swim run find the vibe again, if we call it that, and just really had to change our mindset completely.

WILD ONEZ: And it wasn't really until we were going up Mt. Cott Station, and that's towards the like the later half of the race, where you're climbing and You don't know, it's they flipped the course this year, so what we flew down previous years, we climbed up, it was slightly more miserable.

WILD ONEZ: And we ended up, I think our turning point really, truly was when we met these two guys, I'm clicking on their names off my head. them is James james Noonan. James, and James knew us. Yeah. He was like, is that the wild ones?

WILD ONEZ: And he was like, I just started listening to guys' podcast, and it, like immediately mood booster up constitution it was incredible and um i think it's hard to do with this don't want to look completely but they were great they honestly like we saw them at dinner and they're like you guys on self count constitution got you guys got us up constitution like you really needed that.

WILD ONEZ: Oh, you guys want to, you guys are miserable too, you. We'll be miserable together. So it was, it was, that really was, I think, our training point. And Sarah is so freaking fast downhill, like magic beat.

WILD ONEZ: So I was leading the downhill and I go, why am I doing this? Sarah, get ahead. Just fly. She just flew. Which is really cool to see because I just follow her at the years are pretty good

WILD ONEZ: I'm always tomato. It doesn't matter. I'm cold. I'm warm.

WILD ONEZ: about no change

WILD ONEZ: a tomato it doesn't matter i'm cold i'm warm

WILD ONEZ: Happy, I'm sad, I'm red. If I had a stem, I'd be a tomato or strawberry.

WILD ONEZ: Yeah, hard day.

WILD ONEZ: hard day So we have, I think first our first guy the podcast. We're letting him in to the girls club.

WILD ONEZ: For like 30 seconds. First, he gets to the grounder house. we

WILD ONEZ: This is our ice cream party. The party that we talked about on the podcast a few weeks ago, it turned out to be an ice cream party and a podcast recording. so It's happening though. Yeah.

WILD ONEZ: It's great because we get to bring together our two loves, Ice Cream and of my friends. of So welcome to the podcast. Thank you.

WILD ONEZ: We're one of the girls now. We also had Mara who raced with you. You guys, I was in the mixed category today. truly said Like, you guys did. Like, I know we had some really incredible teams out there.

WILD ONEZ: First off, you guys are doing One Water. Now it's public, I can i can say that. You guys are doing One Water race together two other people who aren't here. But how was today for you guys?

WILD ONEZ: Oh, I get to talk first. That's great. Today it was amazing. This was our first time racing together. We've done some training together, but this and we've we've raced near each other before, but this was our first time racing together. We've discovered over the past few months how aligned our swimming is.

WILD ONEZ: So it was really exciting to be able to split the swims and encourage each other on the runs. And we had a ton of fun out there, and we learned a lot about our communication, our our racing styles and we spent a lot of the time on the course alone because those top teams were so so fast um so it was a good opportunity to make new friends along the way with the people we did run into and then have some time just building teamwork between two of us too you guys got it some because you mentioned you guys are very similar and you guys swim

WILD ONEZ: the swimming during this race. That was different about our swimming? Yeah. Well, I guess one of our our strategies, because we're so aligned on our swim speeds and paces, was that we would split the swims and we would rotate the ones and And if you do it that way, then you can go in the water and the person behind can really get some rest. And the person in front, knowing they don't have to swim that entire distance, they can push really hard for four or five minutes.

WILD ONEZ: And then you have the person in the back overtake, and then they push really hard for four or five minutes. And if it's an even longer swim, you can just switch multiple times. But you're never losing speed because the person who's leading is always pushing basically as hard they can on the swim.

WILD ONEZ: Nice. that's yeah That's a really good strategy. I'm glad it worked out for you guys. and so It's cool to hear like you guys are aligned on that too and That was new for me. i think i like Growing up as a swimmer, it was hard for me to want to like relinquish control of leading the swims and being like, if I'm in front, at least I know how much effort I'm putting in. and so It takes a certain amount of trust to be able to like navigate that and to be able to actually relax when you're in the back. i was like, okay, this is my time because I know he's going to push me on the runs. This is my time to kind of recharge and rejuvenate. So it worked out really well.

WILD ONEZ: Awesome. How was your greatest feeling on today? spot on yeah yeah pacing was really really good um all climbs out i think could find faster did you guys walk any of the climbs or did you guys run we power hiked a lot a lot of power i have seen you climb mountains and run up mountains like you have run up mount we do it with with purpose and anytime I was like, we're running this until that next tree stump or that next flag.

WILD ONEZ: So you're constantly pushing the space. I know that Mary does super deep on the back of the Constitution pushing up. that there were some There were male solos that were right behind us. And we knew that we needed to get to the top of that aid station so we could fill our bottles first so we didn't have to wait for them. And so I was i was telling her, like, you've got to drop the hammer. And she did. Driving the hammer going 15 minute mile pace does not have the sex appeal it sounds like. But the is

WILD ONEZ: Yeah. I worked hard to eat that. Those relatives were not ketchup. That's awesome. That is so badass. I don't want to be like Mara when I grow up.

WILD ONEZ: I don't know if I'd recommend it. love how your guys' motivation was like, they're behind us, need to fill our water bottles first. Because of that, we had an extra minute on there when we were at the estate.

WILD ONEZ: How many seconds you have at the station? How much what? many seconds you have at the aid station today? Just enough to fill our bottle and grab our bottles. So like how many seconds?

WILD ONEZ: 30 seconds total. Less than as all of it well for

WILD ONEZ: not best

WILD ONEZ: the drink mixed we didn't have to like fight into one of those and like drop it in bottle but of it dissolved in my mouth and I was like foaming. That wasn't the way to do it. Yeah he did call me back to an aid station he was like spend more time here so. Because we knew that there was no aid stations to pick it.

WILD ONEZ: So there was at least 90 minutes to get to the top of Constitution with no water. So all it takes so so I called her back to fill up and get some hydration.

WILD ONEZ: No, that's good. Yeah, keeping each other accountable. Knowing that we had only certain aid stations to fill up on, really kind of refuel, and be like, okay, what do we want to have? Because Sarah and I took our time at the aid stations this year, and we're party-paced. When I say... we casually race blue waste and had so much fun but But it was like my joke was at one of the aid stations i was like well we're about to do like an 800 swim and fuel up but what do I want to burp up?

WILD ONEZ: Because that's what happens. So they had to Twizzlers and Twizzlers were the move because the bananas I'm kind of checking them out. It's not really. Both too mushy sometimes. Both mushy. In the gut. the burp like isn't as like Satisfying.

WILD ONEZ: I did burp multiple times today. I'm so proud of you. Also guilty. No, it was good. Well, I don't burp, like, at all. Like, I just, people, I know, but, like, it either, I either have to fart or I have burp, but, like, burping is so much easier, but, like, burping, like, if it just stays in your chest,

WILD ONEZ: Like, somebody, like, Sarah can force out a burp, and I'm so jealous. I don't think it's really forced. I think it just happens. That's good. Mine take a minute. Like, it's just, like, it's just a gas bowl that just sits there, and i can't, like, command it to come off.

WILD ONEZ: you guys have any funny wetsuit parts today? No. I have no GI distress today. That's good. Yeah, no lower GI distress today. That's great. That's amazing. Sarah had a tree today.

WILD ONEZ: I did find a tree today. I was... She picked, the like, the most... the thinnest part of the forest and she was like there's not there's trees everywhere but there's no tree with privacy it worked out honestly the fact that we were out there for eight hours and my guts were like mostly happy that's a win i can be pretty happy walking with if i only poop one time our world's this year We're set.

WILD ONEZ: Yeah. Course record, baby. Yeah, what is your record? I also have a record. Wait, wait. No way. I think mine's five or six. Oh, you got me, D. I'm... First year, but they were all under 90 seconds. Oh, that's great.

WILD ONEZ: Yeah, it's pretty Yeah, Sarah does do a fast food. You gotta be quick with it. You have to! She's really excellent at cabbing me down real quick and just taking my shit though. So like, it's a partner situation. The assist is important. It is.

WILD ONEZ: I don't know if should know this, but Mary is a very quick food place. Mary was just spent all of last week. She was going to go training together, so I found out. It's impressive. It's impressive. I know we've gone in depth all the time.

WILD ONEZ: the first year we did worlds in 23 and we're like all right so how'd it go like well i think sarah has set the record for the course yeah but i wonder if it still holds if anybody's listening to this and they poop more than five times our worlds please let us know honestly we gotta to keep track of i was pretty impressed well world and i'm so sorry for listening also thanks for listening um if you're still here can send you some kudos yeah um please follow us on instagram

WILD ONEZ: it's I don't know how we got here. Maybe it's like after nine o'clock. and It's 930 and we just... We do we do like to record podcast episodes with limited brain cells.

WILD ONEZ: We did Liza's and Kate's, our last two, with limited brain cells. But it I think it helps the conversation flow a little bit more organically.

WILD ONEZ: um especially when you're sleepy deprived so but today was i mean we'll go back it's it's absolutely gorgeous so i'm really happy that you guys decided to your first one here because sarah and i i think like we had a couple people who were like like i think it's a shakeout a lot of people had said it was their first time doing orcas and it was their first time doing swim run and To me that that's incredible because it was it was our first, we're sentimental.

WILD ONEZ: It was our first one run four years ago, so we always try and like push this one. And when people come here, they just see how magical it is. Like, don't know what was talking to today about the long course, but it was magical fairyland.

WILD ONEZ: Like, even on experience, you guys get to go up to the forest a little bit and really truly... Yeah, there was a point where Eliza was like, where are the Ewoks? No, seriously. really Seriously. you can already Yeah. Gorgeous.

WILD ONEZ: So many gorgeous spots. a little We saw this in Norway, but like the little rock people from Frozen. Yeah. Little trolls are touching them to pop out too, and they're oh, where are they?

WILD ONEZ: When you start seeing them, that's the problem. You're like, oh. halfover There was a few moments today at some point where like a tree stump looked like somebody that was just chilling in the woods and I'm like no.

WILD ONEZ: Is that like brainy? Yeah, that can't be a person. had that on the swim. There's a lot of dead people I saw. difference

WILD ONEZ: Okay, did anybody see the, unfortunately, experience and sprint didn't get to see the Twin Lakes, but the first Twin Lakes. The newts. The newts. They were so cute Yeah. They were adorable.

WILD ONEZ: I saw a slug. Yeah. They were kind of floating, and then some were swimming, but they were maybe the size of, like, an iPhone, like a regular iPhone, I should say. They were really. Like, there's so many iPhones.

WILD ONEZ: They're so cute! they were i think so if they're like orange or a different color. and think they were orange. The water's clear but they have like an orange hue with other bellies.

WILD ONEZ: Yeah, they look orange. They're just kind of so thin. They are! Okay, I also brought this up too. You guys remember in Matilda where Trench Bowl drinks new?

WILD ONEZ: You're the perfect size.

WILD ONEZ: there's newts in the lake and I was like oh I really hope they won. did kind of seem freaked out about it and I was like they're so cute. They're adorable but I didn't want to swallow one or one to catch a bite.

WILD ONEZ: I was like genuinely scared me. They were adorable. I was going to be eating a newt today because somebody had said they were everywhere in the lake and I was like oh my god he wouldn't get in and they were just crawling everywhere.

WILD ONEZ: That's what I was. Oh, okay. So you thought it was just going to be like the population of newts were like that first swim at Worlds the first year we did it with jellyfish where you were like eating them. Yes!

WILD ONEZ: legit like had that fear. was like, oh my gosh, I'm flashing back. Or all the tackles that started first swimming. Oh, yeah. Are there a lot of tide pools? Yeah, remember the lake with the dog in it?

WILD ONEZ: Yep. Our only interaction with wildlife was when the goose almost ate me. attacked by a mother goose because I swam right towards her little goose legs and they were on one side of me and the other one, the mother was just like flapping and like, i yeah. I thought I was losing it. like I was just seeing it coming and and it was fully extended. Today? Yeah.

WILD ONEZ: We're going to out at Oh, yeah. Yeah. There's like a little, because we saw them and I was like, oh, the baby geese. So many baby geese. They're so cute. These are so cute when they're little and then they just get ugly.

WILD ONEZ: In my personal opinion. And me. And me. And me and me. Yeah, it was. had to walk. I'm surprised we didn't see any They're usually rampant. By someone driving, yeah.

WILD ONEZ: Oh, not doing the right thing. But the deer was

WILD ONEZ: Oh my gosh. I thought you were driving. I thought you were driving. It took me way too long.

WILD ONEZ: I didn't see you were driving too. Golf part. Wait, were you driving the golf part? No.

WILD ONEZ: I see him in my front yard all the time. That's why I was like, I've never seen one driving. Should we wrap this up, you guys?

WILD ONEZ: Oh, my gosh. Well, any final words from our experience, swimrunners, on what today kind of went to you guys?

WILD ONEZ: I had so much fun, and I just think – We were so proud about ourselves to see ourselves in our outfits this morning. was like, you look badass. Yes.

WILD ONEZ: and So we felt careful just having it all together, having all this stuff and then completing it. Yeah, just it felt like a real accomplishment because it took a bit to get here. And yeah you know, it's a totally accessible distance.

WILD ONEZ: And it's a great way to kind of get into the sport so you kind of understand how stuff works. And I think it would make it easier come back and do something next time. Yeah, it's pretty empowering. I agree 100%.

WILD ONEZ: I'm excited to try more. I'm just so good.

WILD ONEZ: I'm I didn't hear that. i I cannot wait for your guys' next race. and We'll do another post-race report because like this is so down on my mind. was like, do guys want to come up and record podcast with us?

WILD ONEZ: I'm so glad you guys did. We appreciate you guys.

WILD ONEZ: we appreciate you guys

WILD ONEZ: as a studio audience member one of the girls

WILD ONEZ: impressed by the cover of women and everything that I've seen when push through and how much you guys have accomplished. One thing i know that Kate was mentioning about like, oh just just one minute at the end aid station with that game. Merit and I had sprint finish against the male teams.

WILD ONEZ: yeah To the finish, we beat them by six seconds. title And I know on that last run, had dig like super deep and she was like flying down those hills and pushing me as well. And I think it just speaks to like a caliber women in the sport.

WILD ONEZ: And if yes, the community comes together um to help each other out, but I'm really impressed that I'll do every race and each other.

WILD ONEZ: Good answers. here at in

WILD ONEZ: Yeah, i totally had a moment today during a swim, so I felt, like, pretty under-trained for swimming, just from, like, the time of year, and, like, this yeah is so early, and I had a moment during the swim where I thought about Rachel Entrykin and her 250-mile absolute incredible finish, just demolishing everybody from the field, and, like, her mindset on things and, like, her motto, like, when she was really digging deep and, like,

WILD ONEZ: the majority of that race was just like, why not me? And, like, I wanted to quit so many times today. I'm not going lie. And I'm just like, why not on me? Like, why can't I finish? Like, why not me? Why not me? Like, so I really needed that to get through today. always glad that that was your motivation. I was just like, Sarah's behind me.

WILD ONEZ: I can't quit on Sarah. So I have to keep going. We really dug deep today. I'm proud of us. It was it was really, really hard. It was. but You were... Fewer mountaineans, like more swim training than I am because I haven't been swimming in the last month, month and a half.

WILD ONEZ: Just because like whatever single time i would swim, my head would hurt worse. And so coming in, I think I did a total of four swims over the last month. And they were less than 2,000, which for this race, like, it's a very swim-heavy race when you get Mountain Lake and Twin Lakes, especially Cascade. had three swims in that lake when I think we normally have two.

WILD ONEZ: And so it was very much, I was just like, I cannot, I can't stop because I have somebody tethered to me and they're counting on me to continue this race, which if you do swim run, I highly recommend you do with partner because even if,

WILD ONEZ: you're going to be in your low, like your partner might be in their low, but they, they have decided that they're going be, they're going to push through it and just be in their high for you. And when Sarah didn't realize that she was, she was very much a high for me in one of those moments. And, um, as much as my motivation was to not let you down, I'm, I'm so happy to hear that.

WILD ONEZ: Like, why not me? Because that's a huge motivator. bob especially what we talked about with Liza on our last episode, just it being icing on the cake, like us being here, being so like grateful that we get to race in a place this this beautiful and have the community that we have new friends and we have old friends who have so many different experiences, but we come together at the end of the day and we're like, that was cool, miserable.

WILD ONEZ: Let's do it again tomorrow. Because it's one water training day, we'll actually be doing this when this episode drops.

WILD ONEZ: So if you're still in Orca, cheer them on as you're listening to this. Something to love. Awesome. Well, thank you all for listening.

WILD ONEZ: And we'll see you next time. Love you all. Bye. Bye.
