Paige Pearl: He's just going to kidnap me in her car. if She's wearing a hat. I would agree. She looks like a murderer. people can't see me they're listening no one can see me anyway you're you're no one Watch these videos. The people in India watch the videos.
Paige Pearl: On social media? Where? On YouTube. Yeah, but they're not video. They're video. They're audio. Yeah, some of them aren't video. No one is watching the videos. Okay, but I'm just going to say it doesn't matter. For anything that we post on social media.
Paige Pearl: I'll go like this. But also, you're a white mother in America. No one's going to believe it even if you do murder people.
Paige Pearl: You're safe. um She grins. got Some people get put away for 11 years even though they're a mother. Wait, did she get out? I thought she got off. did she get out Didn't she get off?
Paige Pearl: um You got to get out of here. Dean, did she get out? Goodbye. Leave. Otherwise you're in the podcast. Ah. Get out of here. Why have a man sitting around if they don't have all the answers? I know.
Paige Pearl: I need to talk about it.
Paige Pearl: Who should we vote for? Yeah. Did you vote? Are we pretending? Yeah, I know I did vote. You did? Yeah. Who did you vote for? I don't know. Mike did it. How does this work? I voted for Nick. Sometimes I do it. Sometimes he doesn't. no time He did it. I don't know what I was doing. You do it together?
Paige Pearl: Yeah, we just... Like whoever fills in the bubbles. Wait, you vote once for two people? No, we vote. He just fills in the bubbles or I fill in the bubbles. So you go in together to the bat for the battle? No, we don't. No, we drop it off.
Paige Pearl: Oh, you vote by mail. Okay. but we Yeah, we dropped it off. Monday. Okay. And you just voted for all the progressive recommendations? Yeah. Mix and match. the voter guides I didn't recognize that all the judge stuff at the end I was like I don't know these people I just skipped it Yeah that's fine.
Paige Pearl: But yeah, I voted for it. Nithya won. Nithya won. I mean, it yeah. Our good friend. Our best friends. Been around her several times. i've never seen her i've met her once And...
Paige Pearl: Strong handshake? uh Ugh. You can only have soap. When you're that small. your handshake can only be so strong okay but i i don't i don't judge anyone but you're both small i mean it should have been evenly matched yeah she probably walked away feeling the same thing like oh you can only if you're that tiny your handshake can only be so powerful
Paige Pearl: Did you see Mom Donnie's mustache? He looks like a dictator now. yeah fitting yeah soon soon He will rise.
Paige Pearl: But Nithya isn't really... la mom donnie no not at all But but the marriage works completely different. So it's like you can't, you couldn't even do it. You can only do so much.
Paige Pearl: even Miss Council, like her, her area was so huge. It's so big. Yeah. It's true. It's so populated. The size of a city anywhere else. Really?
Paige Pearl: Um, But I like her. I don't know. I hope she gets, she's going to be mayor for the Olympics. That's going to be a lot. Right. She'll have... swept.
Paige Pearl: everyone away it'll be a real test of her liberal values we'll see No, she's done she's done good. She's done good here. She has, yeah. Other than people on Reddit were complaining about the sidewalk.
Paige Pearl: outside you resting oh come on are you serious the one because of the tree the one crazy yeah the crazy side okay look they don't even have strollers what do they care hey You just walk on the other. we just don't You don't walk on that side of the stroller. Everyone knows that. Yeah, you know you learn the spots where you can't walk with the stroller. But yeah, the sidewalks are egregious. i meanite But what do you even do? Apparently it's really hard to get it fixed.
Paige Pearl: i mean they make you have to save the tree i mean it would be it's the one with the tree roots right yeah that one is yeah that would be complicated the source of most of it you would have to like transplant the tree i guess Is it from the earthquakes or the tree? ort Probably like a combination of the two.
Paige Pearl: I mean, I remember when I first moved here, I kept tripping on the sidewalk all the time until my roommate explained that like. In l LA, you have to march like. You have to pick your feet up. You have to lift your knees. I can't wear sandals.
Paige Pearl: o I remember I was. bleeding a lot because I was pregnant and I tripped over. ah uh the sidewalk tripping right out of saint george and Uh, Was it Rowena? By the church?
Paige Pearl: Oh, a little further down. Okay. Um. and i was bleeding for a long time and it's because i was wearing sandals oh yeah i never wore sandals again i used to do that grocery shopping but it's because i'd walk into the shopping cart slightly stupid your own shopping cart that you were pushing yeah Yeah.
Paige Pearl: And that's why my husband's always like, wear closed -toed shoes. you a king idiot so i'm always getting injured but i walk into things anyway like i fully walk into things Your your spatial awareness is very bad.
Paige Pearl: I might go to the eye doctor. I don't know Then I'll probably just break my glasses all the time. but We'll see. um So you're... Your family's been sick all week.
Paige Pearl: Uh... Yeah, we're we're all we're okay now. You're all good now? Yeah, we went to the park this morning. A what? oh I took both of them. We should have skipped school and come. I know, you should have. You should have told me. It was very cute. I didn't realize you guys were okay.
Paige Pearl: Was it like The Secret Garden where they were like, oh. the outdoors. i don't No, i they really need it to go i i imagine needed to go were trapped at home. What did you guys do? Play checkers? I mean, what does it mean?
Paige Pearl: What did we do the whole time? Read books. Oh, blur. Just sat around. Well, one of them got better. first. okay No, we just keep going to the doctor.
Paige Pearl: Oh. We just kept going to the doctor for other... for Different things. Do you like your doctor? yeah we know we love her and she She loves me, too. Oh, that was nice to see the doctor all the time. No, she she'll say, like, I was just thinking about you. Like, every time I see her, she's like, I was thinking about you.
Paige Pearl: i was actually thinking the other day a flashback to when we started with the pediatrician here and he was like his iron's good and We were talking about his diet. i was For some reason, I was like, he loves bacon. and the And the doctor looked scared. And I was like, no, no, but he also eats tofu and chickpeas. And he was like, okay.
Paige Pearl: Yeah, you don't want to open with that. You don't want to open with people. Oh, me no. Especially because we're a bit overweight. So I saw him being like, it does he only eat cheeseburgers and french fries? He was picturing something. Candy and some horrible, like just a kid with ho -hos, you know?
Paige Pearl: Is ho -hos a real thing? Oh. They're real. Okay. yeah Just realized I didn't know if it was just from cartoons.
Paige Pearl: yeah no yeah we used to have another pediatrician that we loved who was like that also like really sucked us in but she was all the way across town so We've abandoned her. Sadly. How is hows the one you have now?
Paige Pearl: He seems fine. Is he flattering? he's he I mean, I left with a good feeling. Okay. I mean, they kind of have to be a bit salesman -y here because they want to keep you.
Paige Pearl: I want to keep you. It's like a client. like Uh, But no, he was a good vibe. Yeah. It was like. He talked about because that the place in Brooklyn used to own. the company here but i guess they split up but it's basically the same thing as uh is he as jacked as your last pediatrician didn't you have the it was not as jacks no yeah there was one guy at tribeca pediatrics that everybody in the group
Paige Pearl: but I never noticed them. But then one time when my kid was sick, I was like, oh, this this is the guy. like You can see how it can also, I learned yesterday how it can be. useful. so like yeah well and if If things need to be done.
Paige Pearl: Like our kids. Needed some shots. They had to stab him really hard. And then I was like, who's going to come in? And then, of course, it was the big guy.
Paige Pearl: Do you think it puts them more at ease that there's this large, burly person there? I think they just know they don't have a he was not in a good mood either. So he was a little scary. That's scary. He wasn't like a jolly.
Paige Pearl: A jolly, overweight man. He was like that. Well, we mentally prepared because I thought he would have shots. I think he did. Four years when you get a lot.
Paige Pearl: Four is a lot? Yeah. Okay. So be prepared for that one. I don't think three you get any other than. If we talk about it a lot. Well, it was before we left Brooklyn, I was just like, give them all the immunity shots, you know, because we're about to travel across the country. So I was just like.
Paige Pearl: shoot them up you know like what do they get blue whatever whatever you have rsv i don't know I don't remember. Were COVID and flu available then? I don't know how they I thought the flu shot didn't start until August. Maybe it was the COVID shot. I don't know, but I was like, give him shots.
Paige Pearl: It's funny. hmm Yeah, but but we had been like if we practice with him before and mentally prepare him like nowadays or that time it didn't go so bad But then this last one, he didn't have to do anything. so Because they were like he was really sick. So they're like we're not gonna give the flu shot while he's really sick um So we all still need to get our flu shots, which is actually pretty irresponsible at this point.
Paige Pearl: So, okay, so it's all just a blur. Were you sick too? No, I didn't get it. I got it last time.
Paige Pearl: Right. So you start immunity. Maybe. But why did they get it again? Um... I don't know yeah i kept looking at my hands maybe you were just asymptomatic i don't know um But I mean, I kicked all my, I had like some kind of.
Paige Pearl: pneumonia and I took every medicine. available. So the really sad thing is that we didn't make it to your party. That was really sad. Yeah, you missed his birthday party.
Paige Pearl: It was a good one. You would have been the guest of honor. And you would have had a very fun time, I think. Oh, yeah? I think it was really fun, yeah. What did you do? nothing nothing exciting i mean like they just they had a bunch of like climbing stuff in the room so i just put it out and the kids were just like playing on it having a good time at one point we put kazoos in the Party bags?
Paige Pearl: At one point, they all took their kazoos and were marching around in a line, like around the room. It was really cute. Wow. it was It was definitely like, party. How big was the room?
Paige Pearl: Like a dance studio? Okay. That's what they use it for. Yeah, for like ballet classes. Oh, I see. So it's like, it's like. 40, 45, something like that.
Paige Pearl: How many people came? I don't know. I didn't count. I think around 35. It's not too late. We could do it right now on the podcast. we Count them all? sp By name. I don't know, but it was good. There were a lot of kids.
Paige Pearl: Like friends of mine who don't have kids who came were like, whoa, there's a lot of kids. And I was like. Yeah. It's a kid's birthday, Marnie. He's reached an age where he cares of his... He actually is his friend. Yeah, you know, so...
Paige Pearl: And there was it was cute. His friend in his class, who's a girl, that's like one of his best friends, were sitting under the table at one point. like cross -legged across from each other it kind of looked like you know at the end of 16 candles well they like sit cross -legged for each other it was really cute
Paige Pearl: But yeah, we miss you guys. I miss you.
Paige Pearl: You did nothing. cause that was Yeah, that's when it was bad. of all the days. And Halloween was the night before.
Paige Pearl: yeah And you guys usually go really hard for Halloween. Oh, how did the littlest one take it? Was he sad? He just kept saying, I got to trick -or -treat out my house.
Paige Pearl: Did people come to the house to trick or treat? No, no one goes to our house to check her dream. Okay. ever we we the first couple of years we would put out a bowl of candy Oh. just in case but then What kind?
Paige Pearl: Sour Patch Kids. but then no one would No one would come. did you do actual trick -or -treating or did you just go to the block party Well, the ball party is trick -or -treating.
Paige Pearl: Was there a band? There was no band. there No bands? Oh, no. I heard. Who told me that? that Someone had to scoop the news out.
Paige Pearl: So there was no van. But the band is a major part of it. I know. What's happening? So you might have to pick up the slack. next It's probably because of the studio merger i'm sure everything everything is because of the studio murder What can you play? so what was I can play anything, really. Can you start a band?
Paige Pearl: You want to start a band just for Halloween? Yeah. We can do that. We have a year to prepare. What do you want to do? Rap? i yeah Yeah. Aaron Carter. You're going to wear this hat.
Paige Pearl: Yeah that's good. Although Aaron Carter would wear it backwards. Hmm. Well. But I'm not going to wear it backwards. No, you're Paige. You're different. what else who else well other people wait we have friends who are musicians
Paige Pearl: Yeah, we could start a band. I mean if it's all women. Could be really good. We could just call it the Los Feliz. Bands i don't think all women would work though Okay, so one guy.
Paige Pearl: At least. yeah Who would we put in there? Oh, Mike can play the drums. Okay. it's our mic That's good. Hmm.
Paige Pearl: So you buy the keys. Yeah. near What can you do? I don't know. best of the keys You can do the keys. all I'm going to be a... I mean, I could play a little guitar. A background singer. Yeah. yeah Dancer.
Paige Pearl: Oh, yeah. hey You gotta show the moves and teach them. Like what the signature dance of the band is, perhaps. I can do that. Like Macarena.
Paige Pearl: Do you think this audio is working? i don't know i hope so we should tell everyone the last two weeks we recorded and lost we've been cursed yeah but apparently everything's in retrograde So.
Paige Pearl: Not really our fault. I don't agree with this. It's so great. um No, there are people to be blamed each time.
Paige Pearl: You? Me. The first time. I think it's because I looked good in both of them. And it's the only time I've looked good on the camera. I had to be destroyed.
Paige Pearl: Fate would have it that I must look bad now. Well we talked about you can see everything.
Paige Pearl: well we didn't but we have but nobody's heard it so we got to say it again yeah well so i read up on it because now we've learned more i've learned more yes because my first thought as i shared last week in the episode no one will ever hear was where was her nanny? Because clearly they were getting some help.
Paige Pearl: With taking care of the kids. And then I read that. That was also the New York Times interviewer when they watched the movie. Their first question was, where was that Salvadorian nanny that was always there? God, that writer is so f freaking annoying though.
Paige Pearl: She didn't have the quote. Neither of them have it. Yeah. Neither of them can prove or disprove. Yeah. But that's up to the reporter to do that. To prove it. Yeah. yeah And to have either.
Paige Pearl: The recording or if they didn't record that's fine, but they need Well, I wonder if there's like legally something preventing. one or the other from disclosing something.
Paige Pearl: I don't know Because she probably can't release, like, no you do someone else's voice. Really? You just play it for someone else? if they if as long as you recorded With their permission. Yeah, yeah.
Paige Pearl: Yeah, fair enough. Yeah. So it's, two to know someone's lying. Who do you believe? All right. No, i think I think they're both generally liars. but The reporter didn't have.
Paige Pearl: that line didn't have that line she just liked it for the article and put it in she She was... Trying to make it. come off a certain way. and That's why. You don't think Elizabeth Holmes said that?
Paige Pearl: No. Hmm. the character i created yeah why would she disclose that exactly that's what yeah yeah yeah that's the thing she's consistent With her life, you know?
Paige Pearl: But it is clear that it was because she wore that black turtle. it's like if I were acting in a sketch comedy pretending to be like Steve Jobs I know it is really funny that she made that her signature look it's clearly like how did nobody notice that Because it's a woman taking it on. I'm trying to think what similar that I could do now. It's like if I... Audrey Hepburn.
Paige Pearl: Two. Adios. funny face was very black Isn't that a black? I don't know if it was a turtleneck, but it was. At least a mock neck. Oh. You know what I'm talking about? Yeah, mock turtleneck. She was more mock turtleneck because she wanted to show her. Oh giraffe.
Paige Pearl: Like... Her beauteous long neck. But that was years before. Nice. Oh, I'm sorry. Did I trigger you? And long neck.
Paige Pearl: but But long necks are great. People love long necks. Don't they? um thought I thought it was something to aspire to. And better than the opposite I guess. A short neck.
Paige Pearl: No neck? You're just like, there's my shoulder. There's my other shoulder. you can never see over your shoulder let me just and if you don't have a neck i'm sorry yeah That'd be funnier with a hat, though. Like if the hat is down there too. okay I think I'm always going to wear a hat.
Paige Pearl: Forever? is that your like That's your signature. But it makes you seem like, I'm trying to think which serial killer it is. but One of them, is it Timothy McVeigh? No.
Paige Pearl: I once... I helped my friend. Come up with a sketch idea. because I kept showing up to coffee shops.
Paige Pearl: wearing a hat. And they would always assume my order was to go. Oh, right. And I was like, is it because I'm wearing a baseball cap? You're wearing your outerwear. Yeah. Yeah. So they just assumed I was on the go. I mean, that's very 1940s or 30s of them. Like the the hat for outdoors. I mean, I would challenge you to to to try.
Paige Pearl: I mean, if we're gonna go back in time, the the bonnet. you know. It's another option. I could pull off a bonnet. You could definitely pull off a bonnet.
Paige Pearl: Especially if you're like going on a diatribe against AI and computers and stuff, like the bonnet would truly match. Just put a bonnet on. Yeah. Um. no I like but it looks like I could take off at any second right yeah you're on you're on your way yeah and it was that was kind of the vibe I was late We're in a hurry. yeahp
Paige Pearl: No, and it makes you seem hard to get. Halfway out the door. You know, if you ever pitch a show, I think wear the hat. They'll be like, we got to catch her before she's out of here. You got to get this show. She's got other appointments today.
Paige Pearl: You know? I do like it about l LA that that everybody wears baseball hats and sunglasses here. it's like There's something nice about it.
Paige Pearl: You can hide, certainly. You can hide. And you're protected from the sun. The sun is just so close. And it's casual, like it feels friendly in a way. Like we're all just here to watch a sports game. Or whatever. you know right life is just it's just a game baseball yeah you don't need to keep score You can.
Paige Pearl: people do i like this new attitude of yours Can you tell she's got or had her period? is this Yeah, thank God. Right at the end of his birthday party, I bled and I was like, ha ha. But we killed the last two episodes.
Paige Pearl: um But you were in a bad place. anyway For sure. i was that yeah And that's what I didn't realize we were out of sync. And and then then the last time we recorded, I was like.
Paige Pearl: god why does that feel wrong and then i was like oh we're not in sync Yeah, you haven't gotten there yet. Yeah. We should just skip. Or maybe we'll record. or we should just do du We should record all our episodes when we're ovulating.
Paige Pearl: We'd look so good.
Paige Pearl: But you're not, ah you're not. Not yet. No, no, no. Next week or the week after.
Paige Pearl: We'll be like, I'll be like. How's it going? And um but I'll be like, oh, yeah. Oh, so you must be ovulating too. No, now. I think it's starting.
Paige Pearl: That's why the confidence to wear the hat. Right. Yeah, it's true. like Do you ever see those sketches where like people wear a new type of hat and they're like, everyone's going to know that I'm not the type of person that wears this hat.
Paige Pearl: i you know like if you wear like um like one of those you know millennial core like witchy hats kind of like the black hats with like the wide brim like Like a fedora? A hat that's not a baseball cap is always like, ugh.
Paige Pearl: It's a risk. Yeah. I mean, I wear a lot of big sun hats. I always want a sun hat. And then I'm always like. I hate. how this looks like i don't want to people and i don't want to you look good in a baseball cap Yeah, baseball cap's okay. i but sometimes yeah I wear a lot of dresses and things so Right.
Paige Pearl: You can't wear the baseball cap with the dress. Sometimes, i certain dresses. Right. If anything, it can kind of tone down a dress a bit, you know? Right, that's true. Depending on the dress. But like a floral, you can't really. No, floral and a baseball cap, I can't do that. That doesn't work, yeah.
Paige Pearl: what do you have to wear one of those stupid like when i just wear like a simple like black dress i can wear yeah that's good that looks good with a baseball yeah yeah yeah if you want fashion tips oh yeah yeah keep listening spoken by the what am i wearing a shirt with an octopus on it or whatever it is no i can't see i don't know um That's something I've definitely fallen off with since becoming a mom. I'm like I don't understand what clothes to put on my body anymore.
Paige Pearl: you've got it because you like to dress up. So you're like, I'm just going to be dressed up every day, which is like a nice. That's nice. Were you always like that? Yeah. oh yeah always Yeah. No, in like high school, i I feel like I was the first girl to wear dresses to high school. Ooh. You know, like jeans and people would wear jeans and hoodies. Yeah. Or a shirt and the two shirts, you know. Yeah. This was in like. 2004 no no I remember yeah two shirts it was before Hank Hank with a shirt over it.
Paige Pearl: that was That's the 90s too. yeah yeah and also the long sleeve under the short sleeve i mean that was huge in my day yeah that is that's more nine like yeah yeah i definitely did that the long sleeve And then I really got into like button up shirts over a tank.
Paige Pearl: i don't know by the end of high school. I was big on that. okay yeah that's that is very 90s yeah or it was like early aughts i guess yeah but yeah Yeah, i was really but i was already I was buying a lot of vintage. Yeah, it was very it was very that vibe, yeah. Like like Dawson's Creek. Get more girls.
Paige Pearl: But you could wear that now. Yeah, that's kind of evergreen, I think, fashion -wise. You could wear a tank, yeah. Take a little button up shirt over. Yeah. But I don't understand what's going on with fashion. Like I'm always, I can feel that I'm always a step behind the actual reality. Well, do you have any questions? Yeah. What jeans are it?
Paige Pearl: because it seems like the young people are wearing the big jinko jeans again like the big yeah and you you don't need to do that Right. well that's the question like who are we trying to where what are the trends for people our age if you're not yeah Half the women I see are just still wearing skinny jeans. And then the other half are wearing those Steve Urkel wide leg barrel jeans.
Paige Pearl: And neither one of those really appeals to me. I think you gotta go somewhere in the middle then. I mean... what but Just straight leg? it's like Yeah, those are like normal jeans. It's also just silly that we everybody wears jeans.
Paige Pearl: it's silly that everyone wears jeans don't you think in the future like they like in like a few hundred years they'll be like They'll put on jeans to make fun of people from our era. Why? Why would they make fun of jeans? Because ah we're all working people in our t -shirts and jeans. They're tough. Yeah, but things used to be formal. and Nothing's formal. like So you're saying they're informal. Well, it's like we somehow we stopped working on farms, but we kept wearing jeans.
Paige Pearl: uncomfortable rough and you would rather wear sweatpants. No, I'd rather wear softer stuff just because I'm self -conscious about my C -section belly. But that's like a whole other. I don't like to wear shapewear or anything. So it's like I'm just not going to look good in a pair of jeans. like I guess I never see. Luckily for me, drawstring pants are somewhat available to wear in everyday life,
Paige Pearl: I got such a nice dress on sale the other day. Oh, did you? I'll show it to you after this. Why didn't you wear it for me? It's so fancy. I have so many nice fancy dresses and nowhere to wear them.
Paige Pearl: like well how how what's the fabric I mean, the fabric's not that fancy, but it's like low cut and like, it's like long and. fancy like It's like, maybe not formal. Where did you get it from? It would be like garden, what do they call it when it's like garden semi -formal or something? There's some term.
Paige Pearl: be like outdoor wedding kind of vibe but i couldn't because there's a bit of white in it so it'd have to be like an outdoor oh yeah don't do that outdoor i don't know what like yeah I have no idea what I would wear it for. I just know that I tried it on and it was $30 and it looked really good. Where is it from? Nordstrom. They're having a big sale. Yeah.
Paige Pearl: Yep. I was actually I was going to go to Nordstrom. this weekend. They have good sales. I mean when the seasons are changing. This is our fashion episode, I guess. wait wait wait but That reminds me of the email we got. Unfortunately, not from Nordstrom. um Okay.
Paige Pearl: Just got this while I was walking over here. hi boy moms team your episode hot boy moms in your area made me smile somewhere between birthday parties and teenage rebellion so whenever i get emails like this they only reference things that are in the description right they clearly have to not actually listened no they did not listen yeah i'm Ago.
Paige Pearl: Founder. Ago? It might be Hugo. Is it U -G -O? Yeah. I know someone named Hugo. Are they Swiss? no but he lives in europe now somewhere i think it yeah so it's like a is it my friend ugo Okay, Ugo Marte? Well, they don't know us very well because let me keep going. Okay, I'm Ugo, founder of Midnight in Wonder, a small studio.
Paige Pearl: Because you would spell uggo with two Gs. Yes, yes, yes. Oh. He's an uggo. Yeah, yeah. yeah yeah Founder of Midnight in Wonder, a small studio in Switzerland that makes principal activity kits for kids age 4 to 8.
Paige Pearl: You got to listen. Okay. Close. um They make principal activity kits for kids. age 4 to 8. Our Christmas collection. an advent calendar where an elf writes to your child every evening a real so supply real reply from santa i am right up our right now yeah yeah um and so it worked just emailed a couple of jews about a christmas mystery adventure for christmas eve yeah so the point and then they they wanted to send
Paige Pearl: I'd love to offer you our Christmas family box. For free? For free. For free. Try it with your kids. And then your own 20 % off code for your community, you know, our community of Jews. 25 % commission. Some Jews love Christmas. to to yeah But it is really funny that they clearly.
Paige Pearl: Don't listen to my guests. And they don't. but we But should we get it? It's free. ah This is how they get you. I know. I get offers like this on my TikTok all the time. And I'm always like, really? Should I get the free thing? I never do it because I would feel too obligated to make content with it. And I'm just not going to like.
Paige Pearl: Oh I got another email about our podcast. What is going on? What's happening? um Our search for mom of boys on Apple Podcasts returned boy moms at number 18. Ooh.
Paige Pearl: 18? That's pretty high. For a very specific search. Mama, boys, we should be one. Ehh. How many other... Podcast about.
Paige Pearl: Boy moms are there. I mean, there's probably, I think there's ones about like moms who are literally in love with their sons, like boy mom podcasts. like there there's that Why are they mad about me? French kissing my boy. whatever Or maybe we are in love with ourselves. Mm -hmm. No.
Paige Pearl: He's very cute. I can't believe the haircut. it's changed everything do you are you like nervous around him now You act different. He looks he so much older. Yeah, he's acting a little bit older. Yeah.
Paige Pearl: He aged a lot with that haircut for sure. But then I'm like, well, maybe it's good that like, it's like the wool got pulled off from my eyes to see that he is actually bigger now. You know, like I wasn't.
Paige Pearl: acknowledge i mean that's why you're that's why you're supposed to do it that's the tradition yeah no it did help me yeah i think that's a big part of it they have to transition now they're ready i mean my brother gave him a speech about like now you're three and you can start taking on some responsibility you know like oh so is he taking out the trash he does he does a little bit of cleaning i mean you know What are the responsibilities he's taking? Well, it's supposed to be Jewish stuff. We're not really doing that. You can wear a kippah. There's like three things you can do. and what What are they? I don't remember. it was You can wear a kippah and then like two other things that I don't remember.
Paige Pearl: But now they can okay but now it's like that it's like you can start just three little things at age three. Can you wear the kippah if you haven't gotten the haircut yet? yeah I think so I think so.
Paige Pearl: um How did the... How did... people react. To his haircut. I think the teachers liked it. um Because my husband said they were like, can you tell some of the other parents?
Paige Pearl: Because they were helping get his hair out of his face, you know, to eat and stuff. like Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So I think it's like really for them. Like they're like, oh, the hair. But I think in the end, it's like it makes their job. Yeah. Like secretly being like, oh, that's so much more normal. or whatever Right. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know. Like grandparents were like, their hair is in there. I can't see. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. My mom was definitely like, I think he wants a haircut. And I'm like, for the 70 ,000th time, we're doing it when he turns three. like
Paige Pearl: you know I have a plan for this. um but yeah but she also did the classic boomer thing of like oh he needs socks Get him socks. It's too cold. like He's fine.
Paige Pearl: he does not need socks well for what though just from some occasions you do need for being at home like just Just inside of the house? Yeah. Just hanging out.
Paige Pearl: Yeah. so i don't know but uh yeah i think it looks good but he does look a lot older and it's take and it felt like a different kid at first he looks like a businessman he looks different yeah and he keeps talking about how he needs to check his email i'm like who are you
Paige Pearl: You gotta to get my reports or whatever.
Paige Pearl: But the kids in his class, that's what was good with the timing of the birthday party, actually, because it was actually his. haircut coming out party so everybody could be like oh the hair oh yeah they didn't see him before that right
Paige Pearl: yeah so but that's nice because you got to see their reactions yes i got to be there for all that and i got to see that all his friends didn't treat him any differently which was really the only thing i was worried about because he was friends with a lot of girls he was a boy yeah i was worried that girls thought he was a girl like and wouldn't want to like play princesses or whatever they do together anymore but it was actually fine Yeah.
Paige Pearl: So that was good. What do you think? You're not going to do the haircut, huh? He doesn't want it. so Yeah, that's the thing. we made it We left it in the end up to him and he wanted the haircut. So we did it. Yeah.
Paige Pearl: So I mean, it's really... And now he can't. Now you can tell our kids apart. I know. But it's still curly on the top, so it's staying curly. So at least there's that. of course the hair stylist was like you're gonna have to use product and i was like we're not Oh, I was amazed that. you guys you you did clippers Never done Clippers. Oh yeah.
Paige Pearl: Yeah, i'm close. Yeah, close she did a great job. I mean, that place was good. And the fact that he could stand. Because some kids scream.
Paige Pearl: Well, he was excited and we'd been talking about the fact that it was going to happen for days.
Paige Pearl: So it's like he was very mentally prepared. We're like, you're going to have to sit still. It's going to be weird. and yeah No, he's really changed. I'm telling you, it's like something happened.
Paige Pearl: in the last month or so where he's like, really? And I'm like, I'm bracing myself because I'm like, this always happens right before things get really hard again. Like, I think like, oh, suddenly he's the perfect child. Oh, everything is just so easy. And then his brain grows and then it's mayhem again. Things become harder another way. Yeah. So I'm just kind of waiting for the other shoe to drop, but it's been. Incredible.
Paige Pearl: really like sometimes okay sometimes he doesn't listen when we say no or something yeah i haven't seen i haven't i haven't been able to evaluate right right right so i'll but he literally he went up to a kid and this is you'll tell the difference for those of you who've listened throughout to the episodes he went up to a kid that had a toy that he wanted to play with and said can i please play with your toy and waited
Paige Pearl: Wow. Which is quite different. It's happened to him. i don't know and he also told me that he should cover his mouth when he coughs and i was like yeah he said i should cover that's what you're supposed to do and i was like you're right Because he as he had to cough.
Paige Pearl: And... you know actually they emphasize that at school i thought of you the other day because we're at a playground remember when we were at one and a bunny showed up and you were like time to go We were at a playground and someone brought goats.
Paige Pearl: these weren't goats on leashes, like pet goats. To Grace. Yeah, it was really where We went to this playground that's kind of up. It's a little off the beaten path Since you guys were...
Paige Pearl: Trapped at home. We were like, okay, we don't have to venture out stay in this neighborhood. yeah So we go to like other playgrounds sometimes.
Paige Pearl: But yeah, they brought goats there. I was like, what is happening? um But that's where I saw him go up to someone and ask very politely if he could borrow something. And he gives stuff when other kids want them. Like, I'm like, who who are you? This haircut changed everything. that's gonna talk I guess so. i don't know you know i don't know what they're doing at this school but Something I...
Paige Pearl: But then I'm like, maybe you would have leveled off anyway. it's hard I'll never know, you know. yeah that is this is the age when that usually happens i know i was like all of a sudden it's so much easier like Yeah, I guess it's this transition from two to three.
Paige Pearl: Yeah. but But then it gets hard again with the three major thing, right? When does that happen?
Paige Pearl: Could happen today. Could happen tomorrow. it Could never happen. He and he's the funniest. um I know he has a good life because whenever he wakes up crying in the middle of the night, it's always.
Paige Pearl: um like the silliest things like when he was younger one time he was like i want a popsicle and i was like you have a good life and you're crying about that but then the other night he was like i want to ice skate Crying and I was like, okay There's nothing like really horrible going on in your dream. How did he find out about... Oh, he's dreaming about... Ice skating. Ice skating. Yeah.
Paige Pearl: How does he know about ice skating? probably from Brooklyn. Yeah. Because we had said, like, maybe next year you'll learn. Maybe he's mourning Brooklyn. i don't know But I told him like we're in California. There's not going to be snow anymore. here.
Paige Pearl: You know? No more snow, no more ice. So. Or creating that yin in him, perhaps. But we can go. ice They do downtown. There's a place you can go.
Paige Pearl: Yeah, Pershing Square. Yeah, so maybe we'll go. Yeah. He's a little young to be ice skating. Yeah, maybe not yet. But I have to do everything my child wants. How else will you be a spoiled jerk?
Paige Pearl: Yeah, he's well on his way. He is, yeah. although he's learned some etiquette Yeah, only child.
Paige Pearl: You just have to well we just have hang out with us. Yeah. Um...
Paige Pearl: I don't know What else has been going on? How's the homeschooling going? That's good. Well, I realize I could just take him to the park. Right. Yeah, you can. He already knows how to read. no it's funny the the outdoor school.
Paige Pearl: is there now. Nah. So. You just hang out next to them and do the curriculum. Well, our neighbor was there Um. And...
Paige Pearl: obviously she's always excited to see them so he was like sort of playing with her a bit And then this girl that she was playing with. Said. This is my home school.
Paige Pearl: And I was like. And no bitch. this this is homeschool okay with your mommy i'm like i and i said i don't pay anything for it so Only time. Only in my fingers. My energy.
Paige Pearl: Sucking life out of you. I was like, no, no, no. this is You're paying thousands of dollars a month for this school. Is it really that much? Yeah, I know it's expensive. It's a private school. um And then at one point they all gathered around the picnic table for some sort of lesson. So they had a board was facing the other way. So then I casually.
Paige Pearl: walked over to see what was on the board be like what did they learn over there it was like a b c d i was like okay
Paige Pearl: That's why my dream's school. that I aspire to open. would be Lots of play, but... rigorous academics.
Paige Pearl: How do you... Do the rigorous academics. One -on -one tutoring. from and One -on -one. Yeah. Let me just pull them out. Okay. Yeah. they're They're playing, then they get pulled aside.
Paige Pearl: for and And you're like, repeat the letters for me. I hope they're past that by the time they get to me. But how do you teach them? like What do you do? You say this is A, and what do you do? You tell them to repeat it?
Paige Pearl: I don't know how to teach i've never well with the letters you just kind of learn you just see letters
Paige Pearl: I don't think my kid definitely doesn't know. He doesn't know his letters? No. Really? I've showed him letters from the books. There's a lot of books with letters, but he's more into concepts. He's like, bacteria makes you sick, you know, like stuff like that. or like Okay, so he'll be like a science guy. Yeah, I think so. ah He knows he counts, you know, so he's been always more into numbers anyway. Okay, okay. But I don't know that he would recognize them. He's into STEM. He's not reading. like He can recognize numbers. I don't know. I don't know that he could tell one from two. I'll teach him to read.
Paige Pearl: But he's more into... a yeah like how it works like that kind of stuff or like logic stuff you know i'm not pushing it too early, really. If he doesn't seem interested. then Yeah, that's the thing. It's like I would if he's asking. I mean, he was into looking at art and asking a lot of questions about it. I got some art books. so I don't know but uh yeah we're mainly aiming for him to be a doctor so it's like
Paige Pearl: you know. You will have to read eventually. to you after yeah but it's a but i mean earlier it doesn't matter you know like as long as they read eventually and if it's so early or late or whenever it happens.
Paige Pearl: So what's the... What's the best gift? your kid got for his birthday oh great question you know they were all really good he does love we haven't read both books yet you haven't read both books yet no but this was days ago well he likes he picks a book and reads it over and over because he's like me but We've read that other one over and over. the
Paige Pearl: The musician one, of course. Yeah. Tremolo. Yeah. Metro Totino. Good, right? It's fun. Yeah. I love when it becomes all about like. And there was no more TV and everything was wonderful. I hope when he starts school, he'll say fulminating right at the teacher. It's good words, good vocabulary in there. But yeah, that one he really likes. And then you got to read the other one.
Paige Pearl: I know, I know. We've got to get to that. yeah i just I let him pick out his own book, so I never know what he's going to pick. But you've got to show him, like, oh, look at this new book. you can Yeah, I should, yeah. I'm very blah, blah, blah about things. But he also, he got a remote control control of car. I mean, so that's obviously been fun for him.
Paige Pearl: Um, I'm trying to think what the other gifts were. All of them were good. Nothing was a dud.
Paige Pearl: Um... Everything was pretty generically. It was like trucks and dinos and books.
Paige Pearl: The other parents at your... child care.
Paige Pearl: center yeah what are they no gifts people or they get for other birthday parties i mean how it has seemed except for one person who was like please don't give us gifts who clearly like didn't want more stuff in their house everyone kind of coyly says gifts not necessary and then everybody brings gifts which i forgot to put on our uh
Paige Pearl: Yeah, I thought it was really rude that you didn't put. I didn't put anything. So then I was just like, like oh, I guess you're begging for gifts. Well, I didn't put a registry. I mean, that's a step further. Yeah, the other registry.
Paige Pearl: um But, you know. I never get, do you get, if someone has a registry. Do you... shop from the registry for a child's birthday party.
Paige Pearl: it it gave me ideas, although at the end of the day... We often forget to get the presents, so we just go to the place up the street and pick something out that's vaguely on theme. like and bring that.
Paige Pearl: ah So. you know it doesn't matter if there's a registry if you don't remember to buy anything in advance because like you will not be able to get anything on that registry that morning.
Paige Pearl: So forget it. Yeah. I don't know but uh no i mean like i didn't like my sister had a registry for a baby shower and she was kind of mad that i didn't get anything on it no you gotta buy for a baby shower i know i didn't well i was like i had no kids i didn't know i was like whatever i just got stuff i thought was cute like it was bad i know i was really annoying no now i know but what did i know you know
Paige Pearl: I was like, it's going to be my niece. I just want to get her cute stuff. You're like, oh, this isn't for me. Right.
Paige Pearl: but yeah no so and then but i do for weddings for sure i'll get from the registry Right? Yeah because that's they picked that stuff out Right. Yeah. Especially if I'm not going to the wedding, then I'm like, okay, I'll just send them something they definitely want, you know?
Paige Pearl: um It's nice that you still sent a gift. I do. although There is still a gift looming that I forgot to send I realized for a bar mitzvah I have to remember to do it. Do people make registries for bar mitzvahs? I think they did. They did? Yeah, but now it's going to have to dig it up from a couple of weeks ago. Is that common to have a registry for a bar mitzvah?
Paige Pearl: i don't know maybe they don't i can't remember if they did or not I would like it just because, like... Kids that are 13 are very particular. You're gonna have to start talking themes.
Paige Pearl: for bar mitzvah we gotta start saving up for his bar mitzvah i mean it's gonna be a billion dollars bar mitzvahs are so expensive you have to do two of them that's gonna be crazy I don't know. How old is he now? What are you going to do? Eight years? Yeah, eight years. And then you got to do one like a year and a half or two years later.
Paige Pearl: That's gonna be a lot. yeah you should ask if there's a two -for -one deal we don't even have like jewish parents to wake up like one you know like right you gotta to find some like surrogate older Jewish I know I would trust me that would be mentors yeah because we really we don't feel like we have anyone Yeah, oh.
Paige Pearl: yeah well we also need to we're in the market for more grandfathers so maybe we could look together okay yeah yeah let's target the same Yeah. well we still have to find what synagogue we want to be part of like and that's going to be a whole I'm like, are we going to go to the Palisades? No, come to here. We'll talk about it. okay yeah we'll figure it out I just don't know about Nefesh.
Paige Pearl: It's almost 2 .30.
Paige Pearl: Oh shit, okay. Well... Thanks for tuning in this time It's going to work. Third time's the charm, yeah.
