Hello Podwalkers and welcome to Hobb's Q saying hi to everybody and not a full goblin lore episode this week. So we are in America coming up on the holiday of Thanksgiving. So this week the host had kind of the plans that they had to be working on and just kind of a quick turnaround time. Especially we were also coming off of this weekend being the event to otter Sheldon Menary that we discussed on the show last week with our friend Beth, Queen of cardboard.

Speaker
So we're not gonna have a full episode. I do have a couple of things I wanna share with people and talk about with regards to the event and actually the holiday. And I also wanna say if you get an opportunity, listen to some of our recent episodes. We've had Gavin Verhay on talking about Dr. Who and then Beth, Queen of Cardboard while we were talking about the event for Sheldon that I'm gonna get into in a second here. A lot of that was just about community building and kind of the legacy that Sheldon left when it came to things like kindness and surrounding yourself with good people.

And I just want to share that that's what this event this past weekend was about. It leads into my kind of thoughts about Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving Reflections and Sheldon Menary Event

Speaker
Thanksgiving is obviously a holiday with a lot of complicating factors when it comes to treatment of, you know, indigenous people within the United States and North America, the world. I mean, people that are kind of displaced and, you know, colonized. The element of that holiday that I think
00:01:24
Speaker
could be a something to discuss. It's something we've talked about on this whole show before is really if we look at it from an actual giving of thanks and a gratitude and what we do with it.
00:01:37
Speaker
And to me, that ties in nicely with what this event was this past weekend to honor Sheldon. So the event, I think, was very successful by any metric of the word. I mean, monetarily, the goal was to raise money and funds for cancer research and it succeeded in that.
00:01:54
Speaker
There also just was sense of sense of community and people coming out and watching games and having fun, sharing stories about Sheldon, sharing what magic meant to them because they may not have a story that directly involved them meeting Sheldon or them talking to Sheldon, but Sheldon had still touched their lives when it came to just commander the magic community and just bringing people together.
00:02:20
Speaker
One of the things that Sheldon often talked about was kindness. The other thing was this idea that hate has no home here. It was a phrase that was oftentimes written on infinite tokens and shared at kind of the top of a lot of players' screens. And it's something that I myself want to embody. Hate has no home here.

The Importance of Gratitude

00:02:38
Speaker
and kindness and that to me comes back to gratitude and being able to share with the people that are around me that I am thankful for and being specific about what that is which is one of the things I am working on myself a little bit more is to not just thank people it's to not just tell somebody that I appreciate them I want to be more specific about what it is because
00:03:03
Speaker
I think that that specificity is important and I know that I really enjoy when I get it because it's easy for me to say that, you know, I appreciate my wife or I'm grateful for my wife or my family or, you know, my coworkers. These things can oftentimes turn into just the things that we take for granted because we know that we're grateful for them. We know that we appreciate that. We know that we love them. We know that they're important to us.
00:03:28
Speaker
being able to say why can go a long way. So I think about, for instance, being able to tell my wife
00:03:35
Speaker
thank you because she watched the kids this weekend so that I could help be in chat and be around and help troubleshoot or if anything was needed and just be around, right? That's a lot. If I just say, you know, Jen, I appreciate you. Jen, I love you. She probably knows a good portion of why that's why I'm saying it right now. It's because we just did this event and all that. I don't want to leave that to chance, right? I want her to know what it was about that, why it was so important to me to give her not even just the specifics of what she did,
00:04:05
Speaker
but also why it was important, why it impacted me.

Sharing Emotions in Gratitude

00:04:10
Speaker
The reason that I'm bringing it up and letting her know the emotions that I feel, it really comes back to this idea of just sharing things with those that are important to us. And the more details that we can provide, the more that we can actually stress how important it is. To me, that's what it is about when we talk gratitude and when we talk appreciation.
00:04:31
Speaker
So this is short, kind of just a little five minute listen to Hobbs ramble about gratitude and thankfulness and kindness and all of these things. And I'm not trying to downplay. I know that that ends up being my kind of go to is that jokey thing. But this really is actually something that I wanted to be able to share with you all even if we don't have a full episode this week.
00:04:54
Speaker
So we'll be coming back shortly. We actually have a couple of things in the hopper, including a panel in Minneapolis with some of my friends, non-magic friends, but a similar topic to what we did in Minneapolis when it comes to gaming and mental health. And we're going to be sharing that here. And then we're just slowly working through our backlog of getting things scheduled.

Community Appreciation

00:05:15
Speaker
The host all just want to share our appreciation for the people that listen, the community that we have around us.
00:05:22
Speaker
even if it's, you know, I think, well, not even, our Discord is who I want to give a shout out to from us with that specificity of the fact that they are so encouraging and so supportive when people are down. And they are very vulnerable and very willing to be open and share what is going on with them to connect with each other or connect with each other. And I think that is something that that Discord more than any other that I am in,
00:05:50
Speaker
does well and I want to make sure that our listeners know that and you can come join it too.
