00:00:09
Speaker
Look, in the solar business, there's really only two types of people.
00:00:13
Speaker
There's the ones that crush it, make six, seven, and eight figures, and then there's everyone else.
00:00:18
Speaker
The question is, which one will you be?

Mindset for Success in the Solar Industry
00:00:57
Speaker
What's going on, everybody?
00:00:58
Speaker
This is James Swidorski, and I am super excited to be hosting the second episode of the Solarpreneur Podcast.
00:01:06
Speaker
And today, I want to talk about one of my favorite topics when it comes to mindset and entrepreneurs, especially in the solar industry.
00:01:14
Speaker
And that is how to become more relentless and take more action towards your goals.
00:01:18
Speaker
And not just how to do it, right?
00:01:20
Speaker
We all know how to take action.
00:01:22
Speaker
We know what that looks like.
00:01:24
Speaker
I don't need to break that down to you.
00:01:26
Speaker
But how do you continually have that mindset instilled in you?
00:01:29
Speaker
And how do you do that consistently, right?
00:01:32
Speaker
I often get asked by my sales team, James, how do you stay in a top A level mood all the time, right?
00:01:40
Speaker
And the truth is, I don't.
00:01:43
Speaker
I don't know anybody who's always in a peak performance state, but I can tell you that I have that peak state about 90, 95% of the time, and that's more than most people.
00:01:53
Speaker
And I attribute that to a lot of my success in sales and marketing and all that great stuff, right?
Why Relentlessness is Crucial for Success
00:02:00
Speaker
Today, I want to talk about why is relentlessness so important and what are some really practical steps that you can do to be more consistent and more consistently have this mindset.
00:02:13
Speaker
Before we get into that, I want to welcome new listeners.
00:02:16
Speaker
The Solarpreneur Podcast, we are catered and welcome.
00:02:20
Speaker
We want to serve you, the entrepreneur, sales professional, marketer in the solar industry, and give you all the tips, strategies, and mindsets like today's topic on how you could just crush it and dominate.
00:02:32
Speaker
We know that the solar industry has so much potential, but a lot of people are lacking the tools, the environment, and the community that we're creating here, and that's what the solarpreneur movement is all about.
00:02:44
Speaker
So the only thing we ever really ask for these episodes is you bring a friend along.
00:02:50
Speaker
It doesn't cost money.
00:02:51
Speaker
Bring a friend, bring a fellow coworker, your sales team, whoever it is, somebody that you feel like could benefit from the content in these podcasts, right?
00:03:01
Speaker
And if you don't like the content, right, don't bring somebody along.
00:03:05
Speaker
I don't expect you to leave a review, a five-star review, if you don't think this is a five-star level content, right?
00:03:12
Speaker
We want to earn your respect and trust with that.
00:03:14
Speaker
And we're going to over-deliver on what we promise.
00:03:17
Speaker
I can assure you that.
00:03:18
Speaker
But let us get there first, right?
00:03:20
Speaker
But if you take value from this, anything in the solopreneur brand, then please bring somebody along that's going to help us get this out.
00:03:27
Speaker
Okay, so let's get that housekeeping crap out of the way.
Understanding Relentlessness: Personal Stories
00:03:31
Speaker
Let's get into relentlessness, right?
00:03:33
Speaker
How do we become more relentless?
00:03:36
Speaker
But before that happens and the how-to, we need to understand the why, right?
00:03:41
Speaker
Why do you need to become relentless and what is it, right?
00:03:44
Speaker
Why is it so important?
00:03:47
Speaker
And here's the deal, okay?
00:03:49
Speaker
Only those who are relentless in this industry are gonna become world-class and that goes with anything, right?
00:03:56
Speaker
My background's in music.
00:03:57
Speaker
I used to play trumpet in high school.
00:03:59
Speaker
I was one of the top trumpet players in the country and I won a couple of national competitions and it was my dream, right, through all of high school and a little bit middle school to become a professional jazz trumpeter, right?
00:04:12
Speaker
The way I got there and how I accredit this, I really understood relentless, what it takes to be relentless at a young age.
00:04:22
Speaker
That's why I feel like I'm qualified to talk about this.
00:04:24
Speaker
While I may be only 22 years old, I've been relentlessly pursuing my goals since I was 10 years old.
00:04:31
Speaker
I used to do football, then I got into music, and now it's entrepreneurship and business.
00:04:37
Speaker
And it's that same tenacity that I've had, that same drive to take massive action and have that mindset to be the best and world class at whatever I do.
00:04:47
Speaker
That is why I feel like relentlessness is a taught skill.
Achieving Personal Potential Over Competition
00:04:52
Speaker
It's not something that comes natural to people.
00:04:55
Speaker
And that's a big misunderstanding.
00:04:57
Speaker
People think, oh man, I'm just not born that way.
00:04:59
Speaker
This guy just has a lot of talent.
00:05:01
Speaker
I don't think that I could do this.
00:05:03
Speaker
No, those people, the people we look up to, all the world-class actors, entrepreneurs, business people, they learned how to become relentless first.
00:05:13
Speaker
It's a learned and acquired trait and you can learn it just like they did.
00:05:18
Speaker
It doesn't matter what background you have, you can become relentless and
00:05:22
Speaker
and take massive action towards becoming world-class at whatever you do, okay?
00:05:28
Speaker
And here's the deal.
00:05:29
Speaker
There's plenty of room out there to just be okay, be average, be mediocre, and be pretty good, right?
00:05:37
Speaker
Top level mediocre, 80, 90%, right?
00:05:41
Speaker
But you, the entrepreneur that's on this podcast and part of this movement, I know that you want something more than that.
00:05:48
Speaker
You're not here to just become pretty good at what you do.
00:05:52
Speaker
You want to be the best, right?
00:05:54
Speaker
A solopreneur wants to be world-class at his craft, okay?
00:06:00
Speaker
He wants to be the best marketer, the best sales professional, the best closer, and the best business owner.
00:06:08
Speaker
That's what it means to be a solopreneur.
00:06:10
Speaker
So, if I got you wrong, right?
00:06:13
Speaker
If you don't want to become the best, you don't want to be world-class at what you do, this episode honestly may not be for you because...
00:06:22
Speaker
To be frank, not everybody is born to be relentless.
00:06:25
Speaker
That's just the truth.
00:06:28
Speaker
Because if we were all relentless, I mean, this world would be a pretty crazy place.
00:06:32
Speaker
Let's be real, right?
00:06:34
Speaker
If everybody was so ambitious and had such a hard-driving personality, I couldn't even tell you what it'd be like.
00:06:42
Speaker
But I can tell you this.
00:06:44
Speaker
If you're the kind of person who does want to be the best of the best, then
00:06:47
Speaker
These strategies I'm going to share with you today are what took my career to the next level.
00:06:52
Speaker
And I've taken my career in multiple different industries, music, entrepreneurship, right?
00:06:57
Speaker
Whatever it is, I've applied these same principles and they've worked.
00:07:01
Speaker
So let's talk about what is it, right?
00:07:03
Speaker
What is it to be relentless?
00:07:06
Speaker
To me, and this is all my opinion and opinions of other entrepreneurs and mentors of mine,
00:07:13
Speaker
It's that you're never satisfied and you're always striving to reach your potential.
00:07:20
Speaker
What do I mean by your potential, right?
00:07:23
Speaker
It means that you're not trying to compete with people.
00:07:26
Speaker
And that was a huge thing in music for me.
00:07:28
Speaker
And one of my mentors that took my career in the music industry to the next level was...
00:07:35
Speaker
He told me, not was, he told me that, you know, James, here's the deal.
00:07:39
Speaker
You're good, right?
00:07:41
Speaker
You're pretty good at trumpet.
00:07:42
Speaker
You're good at jazz.
00:07:43
Speaker
You're getting pretty decent.
00:07:44
Speaker
You're best in the state at the time.
00:07:46
Speaker
And I wanted to become one of the best players in the country.
00:07:49
Speaker
And he told me that, look, the reason you're not where you want to be right now is you're too concerned with competition.
00:07:57
Speaker
You're looking around in your state.
00:07:58
Speaker
You're saying, well, look at this guy.
00:08:00
Speaker
And at the time, one of my rivals, his name was Tyler Webb.
00:08:03
Speaker
And he was like one of the best guys in Utah and in the country.
00:08:06
Speaker
And I was consistently comparing myself to him.
00:08:09
Speaker
And I was saying, well, what's he doing?
00:08:10
Speaker
How's he practicing?
00:08:11
Speaker
How's he doing this?
00:08:12
Speaker
He practices eight hours a day.
00:08:14
Speaker
I need to do nine hours a day.
00:08:17
Speaker
It was a good, healthy competition.
00:08:20
Speaker
It still was holding me back
Inspiration from 'Relentless' and 'Extreme Ownership'
00:08:21
Speaker
because I compared everything I was doing to Tyler Webb.
00:08:24
Speaker
Then I took it up a next level.
00:08:26
Speaker
I looked at some of the top players in the world, right?
00:08:28
Speaker
Winston Marsalis comes to mind.
00:08:30
Speaker
I was looking, okay, look at these world-class guys, musicians.
00:08:34
Speaker
What are they doing that I'm not doing?
00:08:36
Speaker
And then I would adjust there.
00:08:39
Speaker
But here's the deal, guys.
00:08:40
Speaker
If you keep comparing yourself to other people, you're putting a cap and you're putting a limit on what you can accomplish.
00:08:47
Speaker
So what he told me and it changed everything was start trying to become the person you are capable of or the person with the maximum potential, right?
00:08:58
Speaker
So if I stop comparing myself to others and I look, what am I capable of?
00:09:02
Speaker
What am I really capable of achieving in this lifetime?
00:09:06
Speaker
That's the person I want to chase, right?
00:09:09
Speaker
Ed Milet always talks about, you know, the journey of life is to be able to approach the person that you were born to be.
00:09:18
Speaker
and realize that it's the same person and be able to recognize that person.
00:09:22
Speaker
I don't want to meet my potential self and not recognize them, right?
00:09:28
Speaker
I want to be able to reach my full potential and that's who I'm comparing myself and chasing afterwards.
00:09:35
Speaker
So if you look at some of the top guys in the world like Michael Jordan,
00:09:40
Speaker
Kobe Bryant, right?
00:09:42
Speaker
These guys didn't compare themselves to other athletes.
00:09:45
Speaker
It would be downgrading, right?
00:09:46
Speaker
They were chasing their full potential.
00:09:50
Speaker
Michael Jordan will talk about that in Tim Grover's book, Relentless, and I highly recommend you go check it out.
00:09:56
Speaker
It's kind of the theme of this entire topic today, Relentless by Tim Grover.
00:10:01
Speaker
Tim Grover was one of the coaches for Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, right?
00:10:05
Speaker
Some of these world-class, amazing athletes.
00:10:07
Speaker
And he always talks about, you know, Michael was light years ahead of everybody else because he was comparing himself to his potential, right?
00:10:16
Speaker
And that's the key with entrepreneurs.
00:10:17
Speaker
They don't compare themselves to the competition.
00:10:20
Speaker
They reach their potential, okay?
00:10:23
Speaker
Now, here's the second thing though, relentlessness means you take responsibility for everything.
00:10:30
Speaker
And I think of Jocko Willink, the Navy SEAL commander, right?
00:10:35
Speaker
He's got fantastic stuff out there.
00:10:37
Speaker
Go check out his podcast, one of the best in the world, right?
00:10:40
Speaker
And he talks about responsibility and having extreme ownership is the key to taking relentless action towards your goals, right?
00:10:49
Speaker
And what does that mean?
00:10:50
Speaker
It means that I'm responsible for everything in my life, my environment, my finances, my fitness, my family, my faith, whatever it is.
00:10:59
Speaker
I'm responsible for that because ultimately the things that we could control are our body and our mind.
00:11:05
Speaker
Those are the only things we could fully control, right?
00:11:09
Speaker
But if you could control those two things, that means I could control my actions and I could control how I feel about stuff, how I react to things.
00:11:17
Speaker
And if you have control of those things, nothing could touch you.
00:11:20
Speaker
Somebody says something offensive to me.
00:11:22
Speaker
They say something like, you can't do this.
00:11:24
Speaker
You can't become good at solar sales.
00:11:26
Speaker
You can't get good at marketing.
00:11:27
Speaker
You weren't born to do this.
00:11:30
Speaker
However I filter that through in my brain, that's the control I have.
00:11:34
Speaker
I can say, no, that is my identity, right?
00:11:37
Speaker
I am going to become good at this.
00:11:39
Speaker
It's my responsibility too.
Maintaining a Relentless Mindset
00:11:41
Speaker
So realize that a relentless entrepreneur in the solar industry takes responsibility for all actions.
00:11:49
Speaker
He doesn't blame others.
00:11:50
Speaker
He doesn't blame his circumstance, his upbringing.
00:11:53
Speaker
It doesn't matter.
00:11:54
Speaker
He takes control because when it comes down to it, the person who has responsibility and assumes it is the person who could fix whatever it is.
00:12:03
Speaker
You can't fix something that you're not responsible for.
00:12:08
Speaker
If I'm bad at sales and I blame somebody that I'm bad at sales, who has the control?
00:12:14
Speaker
That other person does.
00:12:16
Speaker
I don't have control.
00:12:18
Speaker
So take responsibility and never be satisfied and always try to strive to reach your full potential.
00:12:26
Speaker
That's what relentlessness is.
00:12:28
Speaker
Now, let's get into how to do this, right?
00:12:31
Speaker
How do we do that?
00:12:32
Speaker
Because you could say, you know what, James, that's cool.
00:12:34
Speaker
That sounds fine and dandy, right?
00:12:37
Speaker
I understand, but I've got this going on.
00:12:40
Speaker
I've got this, right?
00:12:42
Speaker
You don't understand what it's like to be in my family.
00:12:44
Speaker
You don't understand what it's like to have a family, like a wife and kids, right?
00:12:47
Speaker
Because I don't, right?
00:12:48
Speaker
I don't have a wife and kids.
00:12:49
Speaker
I can't tell you what that's like yet, right?
00:12:53
Speaker
But I can tell you how I've applied to myself and many of our other students, and these are the actionable steps and how I get myself in this relentless mindset mode, okay?
00:13:04
Speaker
Number one is learn to control your environment and raise your standard, okay?
00:13:12
Speaker
What does this mean?
00:13:13
Speaker
My environment is how I ultimately am going to behave, right?
00:13:17
Speaker
If you've ever heard that you become the average of the five people that you hang out with most, right?
00:13:22
Speaker
That applies to everything.
00:13:24
Speaker
You become the average of the five TV shows you watch, the five movies you watch, the five books, the five people you hang out with.
00:13:31
Speaker
You have the average wallet of the five most, five wallets you hang out with, right?
00:13:35
Speaker
Those five people.
00:13:38
Speaker
You need to be able to control your environment as a solopreneur, right?
00:13:41
Speaker
And you've got to be able to raise your standard of excellence, meaning what you tolerate is what you ultimately will get, right?
00:13:50
Speaker
If I tolerate only making $70,000 a year in this industry, like I'm just okay, I'm satisfied with it, I think it's all right.
00:13:58
Speaker
then I'm not going to do anything.
00:14:00
Speaker
I'm not going to take more action to raise that level because I'm okay with where I'm at.
00:14:05
Speaker
And that's the biggest problem that all of these sales professionals have in this industry is they're just satisfied with where they're at.
00:14:13
Speaker
They're not happy with it, but they're not saddened by it, right?
00:14:18
Speaker
They're not depressed about it.
00:14:20
Speaker
They haven't hit a rock bottom to where they feel like, okay, I've got to change, right?
00:14:25
Speaker
They're just sitting right on middle ground.
00:14:27
Speaker
And here's the deal.
00:14:28
Speaker
You can't stay at maintenance in this game, right?
00:14:35
Speaker
You can't just maintain an average pipeline in solar.
00:14:39
Speaker
You're either getting worse with your pipeline or you're getting better.
00:14:42
Speaker
You're earning more money or you're earning less.
00:14:44
Speaker
There's no in between.
00:14:46
Speaker
So you, as the entrepreneur, you need to raise your standard level.
00:14:50
Speaker
You need to raise the level of excellence that is mandatory.
00:14:54
Speaker
It's a must in your life, right?
00:14:58
Speaker
So if you want to make $100,000, you need to make sure that is the standard, meaning you take that on as an identity, that I make $100,000 in solar, that I have funnels that give me 20 leads a week, whatever it is, that I close 90% of my deals.
00:15:15
Speaker
You need to have that standard before you get there.
00:15:21
Speaker
You need to have that mindset so ingrained to where it's on a subconscious level.
00:15:28
Speaker
That's what relentless entrepreneurs in this industry do.
00:15:31
Speaker
That's what the sales professionals that are clearing seven and eight figures do.
00:15:37
Speaker
They have that standard and they adopt this mindset and they control their environment.
00:15:44
Speaker
Speaking of environment, some of the most toxic environment destroyers, I call them, are people, okay?
00:15:52
Speaker
And as harsh as it sounds, you need to know how to control the people in your life, and you need to know how to stay in control of your emotions around them.
00:16:02
Speaker
See, when I started, a lot of my family members and people would tell me I wasn't good at sales, right?
00:16:06
Speaker
Or you don't know anything about solar, why can you do this?
00:16:09
Speaker
You don't know anything about entrepreneurship, you can't start a business.
00:16:13
Speaker
I knew that if I kept believing what they tell me, the lies that they tell me, if I even tolerated them saying it to me, then it was gonna become my identity.
00:16:24
Speaker
And that's the dangerous part.
00:16:26
Speaker
A lot of the time, entrepreneurs will just be like, yeah, that's okay.
00:16:30
Speaker
I'll just ignore them, they're saying stuff.
00:16:35
Speaker
I'll be confrontational about it because I don't let that toxic environment seep into my mind, right?
00:16:42
Speaker
Because if you let that in even a little bit, that's going to totally change the game for you.
00:16:48
Speaker
You can't let that stuff in your life.
00:16:50
Speaker
So if you have toxic people, you have a toxic environment, an environment that is not conducive to where you want to go.
00:16:59
Speaker
If you have that right now, you need to take a good hard look.
00:17:03
Speaker
Take an audit of all the people and ask yourself, are these people I hang around with, are these friends, family members, are they helping me reach my goal or are they keeping away?
00:17:14
Speaker
There's no in between, remember that.
00:17:17
Speaker
Are they helping me become better?
00:17:19
Speaker
Are they making me want to raise my standard to become better so I could fit in with them?
00:17:25
Speaker
Or are they taking me away from my goals?
00:17:29
Speaker
I think if you take a hard look at the people that you're spending time with, a lot of them are not going to be in line with your goals and where you want to go.
00:17:39
Speaker
So how do you deal with those people, right?
00:17:41
Speaker
What if you got a family member and you can't just drop them and cut them out of your life?
00:17:45
Speaker
Just audit the way that you behave around them.
00:17:47
Speaker
So for me, if I have a family member that doesn't believe in what I do, they don't believe in my goals and where I want to achieve, then I just don't talk about that with them.
00:17:58
Speaker
I'll just keep it with the superficial stuff.
00:18:00
Speaker
I won't talk about my dreams and goals with family members because I know how they're going to respond with it.
00:18:06
Speaker
And that negativity is going to affect me on a subconscious level.
00:18:10
Speaker
So you've got to be careful with that, guys.
00:18:12
Speaker
It's super important.
Purpose, Discipline, and Motivation
00:18:16
Speaker
The second key fundamental step I would say to becoming relentless is you gotta find a reason that's bigger than yourself, okay?
00:18:23
Speaker
So when I'm looking at sales professionals, when I'm hiring guys, I look for a couple of things, okay?
00:18:28
Speaker
Yeah, there's the single hard driving guy and if he's got a bigger reason, he wants to make a bigger impact, then cool.
00:18:36
Speaker
But the guys that I really like to hire are the people who have responsibilities.
00:18:41
Speaker
They've got a family to take care of, right?
00:18:44
Speaker
They have something like that.
00:18:46
Speaker
Some reason they wake up in the morning and get to work because here's the deal.
00:18:50
Speaker
When it comes down to it, I won't go do the work it takes for myself alone, right?
00:19:00
Speaker
make over a hundred or seven figures in this industry.
00:19:04
Speaker
And I won't put out podcasts like this for myself, right?
00:19:08
Speaker
That it just doesn't work for me.
00:19:10
Speaker
So I like the guys who, you know, they've got a family to take care of, right?
00:19:13
Speaker
They have a bigger purpose.
00:19:14
Speaker
They have a bigger reason to get out of bed in the morning because that's, what's going to help them drive and have that ambition to become better.
00:19:22
Speaker
So find whatever it is, right?
00:19:24
Speaker
Maybe it's the community.
00:19:25
Speaker
Maybe you want to help more people go solar.
00:19:27
Speaker
Maybe you got to take care of your family.
00:19:29
Speaker
Maybe you want to buy your parents a nice car, whatever it is, right?
00:19:33
Speaker
Find whatever reason it is.
00:19:35
Speaker
It's going to help you have that ambition and relentless drive.
00:19:40
Speaker
And it could be a small thing, right?
00:19:42
Speaker
It could even be a superficial thing.
00:19:44
Speaker
Maybe you want a Lamborghini really bad, right?
00:19:48
Speaker
I know plenty of guys that it was a superficial object, right?
00:19:51
Speaker
And the material thing is fine as a motivator.
00:19:54
Speaker
But make sure that it really will motivate you and it's not just something you're telling yourself that you want.
00:19:59
Speaker
Because a lot of people get caught up in the...
00:20:02
Speaker
Oh man, I got to have a boat.
00:20:03
Speaker
I got to have my own private jet thing.
00:20:06
Speaker
Like if that's not what you really want, then don't bother with it.
00:20:11
Speaker
Find the true thing that gets you motivated, gets your blood pumping.
00:20:15
Speaker
That's what we're looking for.
00:20:17
Speaker
Now, the third thing, and this is the hardest thing, obviously it's easy to talk about it, but it's super crucial to having the relentless mindset in sales in this industry, and that is to develop an insane amount of discipline in every area of your life, right?
00:20:36
Speaker
Discipline equals freedom.
00:20:39
Speaker
Jocko Willink talks about that.
00:20:41
Speaker
Discipline equals freedom, right?
00:20:43
Speaker
Discipline in keeping your pipeline full.
00:20:46
Speaker
Discipline in having 11 to 20 installs a month, right?
00:20:50
Speaker
Discipline in how you interact with your family, right?
00:20:54
Speaker
Business, finances, right?
00:20:57
Speaker
How are you disciplined with your downtime with family or friends, right?
00:21:01
Speaker
How are you disciplined in your environment?
00:21:04
Speaker
All of these things contribute to your success.
00:21:07
Speaker
And I know it seems excessive, right?
00:21:09
Speaker
When I tell this to new sales professionals in this industry, they think, no way, dude.
00:21:15
Speaker
How does that affect my deal flow this month?
00:21:19
Speaker
How does when I wake up in the morning...
00:21:22
Speaker
Or how does me going to the gym or not going to the gym or pushing really hard in the gym, how does that affect my deals, right?
00:21:29
Speaker
How do I make more money because of that?
00:21:30
Speaker
That's totally unrelated.
00:21:32
Speaker
And here's the deal.
00:21:33
Speaker
It's all connected, 100%.
00:21:35
Speaker
How you do anything is how you do everything.
00:21:39
Speaker
If you are lazy about just the smallest little thing in your life, right?
00:21:44
Speaker
If you let one little thing go, I guarantee we could go look at another area of your life that has something that's off.
00:21:52
Speaker
If you're okay with having a messy house, right, a messy car, I bet you there's a mess we could find in your finances, in your business, in the way you qualify customers.
Discipline as a Path to Success
00:22:03
Speaker
Maybe you were dishonest with a customer here or a prospect here.
00:22:07
Speaker
I bet you you're dishonest in another area, right?
00:22:11
Speaker
So I know it seems overwhelming when you're looking at this because I know I was when I first heard this concept, right?
00:22:18
Speaker
But as soon as I developed discipline and realized that discipline is not a punishment, right?
00:22:24
Speaker
Having that pain of discipline is nothing.
00:22:27
Speaker
It's going to pay dividends in the amount that you receive from those actions.
00:22:34
Speaker
Meaning, yeah, maybe it sucks that I wake up at 4.30, right?
00:22:38
Speaker
That's my time, right?
00:22:39
Speaker
I wake up 4.30 in the morning.
00:22:41
Speaker
I call it my magic time.
00:22:42
Speaker
That's when I get stuff done for three to four hours before I start my work day.
00:22:48
Speaker
And the discipline of me getting up that early is nothing compared to the reward I get from it.
00:22:55
Speaker
To have three to four hours of quiet time before the world is up, to be able to work on my goals, work on my business, to get better at my skills, to coach, to train in sales, that far outweighs the pain of having to get up early, right?
Taking Action and Stepping Out of Comfort Zones
00:23:11
Speaker
So realize discipline equals freedom and become disciplined in all areas.
00:23:16
Speaker
And then the last thing, guys, and it's kind of a two for one, is you need to take massive action and get uncomfortable.
00:23:26
Speaker
For me, this means I don't wait, okay?
00:23:29
Speaker
Massive action, speed of implementation.
00:23:32
Speaker
Meaning if I have an idea for something, say I have an idea for this podcast, for example.
00:23:36
Speaker
I was thinking about this podcast topic just two hours ago, okay?
00:23:42
Speaker
For me, I could have been like, oh, I'll just write it down and I'll record it when it's easy.
00:23:47
Speaker
If I have an idea on this or a thought, I'm not going to wait for even a second, right?
00:23:53
Speaker
Yeah, I waited two hours because I had to go finish a previous engagement.
00:23:57
Speaker
But the first thing I did was make time to record this episode so the idea was fresh and so I could bring the drive and deliver for you guys because I had a bigger reason than myself.
00:24:08
Speaker
It was for you, the listeners, right?
00:24:11
Speaker
to impact you, the solar professional.
00:24:13
Speaker
An easy way really for me and how I condition myself this way is to think of exactly what I fear or I don't want to do, right?
00:24:24
Speaker
So I get up in the morning and I got this idea from Tim Ferriss, the don't want to do list, he calls it.
00:24:30
Speaker
And you just list out three things you absolutely don't want to do.
00:24:33
Speaker
Maybe I don't want to call this prospect.
00:24:35
Speaker
I don't want to follow up with my deal from last night, right?
00:24:39
Speaker
I don't want to go pay this person to visit.
00:24:43
Speaker
I don't want to go network with a realtor today.
00:24:46
Speaker
And I list out three to five things that I do not want to do.
00:24:49
Speaker
And you could start with one and then boom, I make that into my execution list for the day.
00:24:56
Speaker
Meaning I find what I don't want to do and now all of a sudden I have to do it.
00:25:02
Speaker
And then I implement it as quickly as possible.
00:25:04
Speaker
So if you've got a thought like, oh man, maybe I should really go follow up with this person.
00:25:09
Speaker
I know it's the right thing to do.
00:25:11
Speaker
Go do it immediately.
00:25:12
Speaker
Stop whatever you're doing and go or stop as soon as you can and implement this.
00:25:17
Speaker
Get comfortable with doing uncomfortable things.
00:25:20
Speaker
So it's going to set you apart from anyone in this industry.
00:25:24
Speaker
That's how you become truly relentless.
00:25:26
Speaker
That's how the entrepreneurs and sales professionals clear seven, eight figures plus in this industry.
00:25:32
Speaker
You got to do it, guys.
00:25:33
Speaker
It's uncomfortable.
00:25:35
Speaker
Find ways that you can get uncomfortable and get used to it because in comfort, we're not going to grow.
00:25:41
Speaker
When we stretch ourselves, we stretch our comfortability, right?
00:25:44
Speaker
We go outside of our bubble.
00:25:46
Speaker
That's when we're going to become a better sales professional and entrepreneur.
00:25:50
Speaker
And that's what I think a true solopreneur is.
00:25:54
Speaker
So guys, that's wrapping up this episode here, okay?
00:25:58
Speaker
To review, what is relentlessness?
00:26:01
Speaker
It means that you're never satisfied.
00:26:04
Speaker
It means you're always striving towards your potential, not what your competitors are doing.
00:26:08
Speaker
And you take responsibility for everything, okay?
00:26:12
Speaker
Everything, whatever anyone does.
00:26:14
Speaker
Somebody on your team messes up, it's your fault because you didn't train them well enough.
00:26:18
Speaker
Somebody rear-ends you on the way to the office today, it's your fault.
00:26:21
Speaker
You should have left earlier.
00:26:23
Speaker
Or maybe you could have,
00:26:24
Speaker
driven in a different lane, whatever it is.
00:26:28
Speaker
Take responsibility for every little action because the person who's responsible is the person who has control.
00:26:34
Speaker
And the person who has control gets to change the world, right?
00:26:38
Speaker
The person who has control gets to
00:26:41
Speaker
influence the outcome of their actions and reach towards their goals.
Traits of Relentlessness and Personal Growth
00:26:45
Speaker
You want to have control, okay?
00:26:47
Speaker
And how do you become relentless?
00:26:49
Speaker
You control your environment.
00:26:50
Speaker
Make sure that the people around you in your life, the things that you consume, right?
00:26:55
Speaker
Food, media, books, whatever it is, make sure that they're in line with your goals and they're pushing you and helping you raise your standard, not bringing it down.
00:27:05
Speaker
It's either going up or it's going down.
00:27:07
Speaker
Make sure that the things you consume on all levels are going up with you.
00:27:12
Speaker
Next is find a bigger reason than yourself to be relentless.
00:27:17
Speaker
Community, impact, whatever it is, make sure that you have something that's going to drive you to be relentless.
00:27:25
Speaker
It could be superficial.
00:27:26
Speaker
It doesn't matter.
00:27:27
Speaker
Make sure it's something that motivates you constantly and continue to remind yourself.
00:27:32
Speaker
And then develop an insane amount of discipline in all areas, right?
00:27:37
Speaker
family, business, finances, doubt time, environment.
00:27:40
Speaker
It doesn't matter.
00:27:40
Speaker
Make sure you're disciplined because how you do anything is how you do everything.
00:27:44
Speaker
And then last is take massive action and get uncomfortable, right?
00:27:51
Speaker
If you have a thought you need to call somebody, do it immediately and condition yourself to work this way as much as possible.
00:28:00
Speaker
So guys, that is it for this episode number two.
00:28:03
Speaker
It's a shorter episode.
00:28:04
Speaker
And you know what?
00:28:05
Speaker
Mindset is so important in this game.
00:28:07
Speaker
That's why I talk about it.
00:28:09
Speaker
80% of sales and entrepreneurship is mindset.
00:28:13
Speaker
20% is mechanics, okay?
00:28:14
Speaker
We'll talk about the how-tos a lot on this show, right?
00:28:17
Speaker
And we're going to do that.
00:28:18
Speaker
We have a really awesome show lined up later this week with Taylor.
Upcoming Content and Community Engagement
00:28:22
Speaker
And we're going to talk about sales funnels and some Facebook strategies and all that exciting stuff.
00:28:27
Speaker
If you don't have the right mindset of relentlessly implementing these things, it doesn't matter.
00:28:33
Speaker
I could give you all the tools in the world.
00:28:35
Speaker
I could say, hey, do this immediately and you're going to make eight figures this year, right?
00:28:41
Speaker
But if you don't have that mindset, you don't have that drive to actually get there, it doesn't matter.
00:28:47
Speaker
You just won't do it because we're all human and it's all difficult.
00:28:51
Speaker
And you've got to have that bigger reason and you've got to have the strategies in place.
00:28:56
Speaker
So guys, that's it for this episode.
00:28:57
Speaker
If you found this useful, go ahead, share it with a fellow colleague, find somebody else who's in the solar industry and entrepreneurship, right?
00:29:05
