Trivia Night and Podcast Introduction

00:00:00
Speaker
or and it was a trivia thing so like joe la puma and b fred and you know different writers and oh geez oh geez yeah we were just like oh my god this is so great and we're a part of it right and this the trivia was all these different categories and you had to you were working in teams yeah and jeff and i just didn't want to embarrass ourselves because So much of this trivia was about sneakers. And we knew nothing. And so like it would be like, what is this shoe? But like it wasn't... like I remember it would be like, what are these two songs that are playing at the exact same time? Yeah, that too.
00:00:35
Speaker
And so like you had to be like, okay, that's 3-6 Mafia and it's also Miley Cyrus. But like you're trying to compute this thing that's happening at this very same time. Left brain, right brain. Yeah. yeah yeah yeah And like, by the way, that would be an easy one. But like, you know, like it was like things of that like some like rare song from 1993. And you're just like playing backwards and yeah on top of something else. Fucking like complex nerds are just like all like loving this. And Eric and I are just like sweating. Yeah. But then they they they were like, um we I think it was just like outlines of shoes or something. Yeah. And it was like, and we were like, i don't know, a harachi. Yeah, I know. We're just like, ah you know, Tinker Hatfield, you know, it's just like, i you know, throwing out stuff. It's like, yeah I don't know.
00:01:17
Speaker
What's good, everyone? Welcome back to My First Kicks. And this episode, you know, I say this in every episode. I say it's a special episode. But for real, this is such a gigantic honor to have.
00:01:27
Speaker
I don't know. if Just go Jeff and Eric. It's the real or joe go it's the real or you know what? i mean I mean, you want. Yeah. I mean, if you guys want to do AKAs. Oh, man, um I got to think one. ah Let's see.
00:01:40
Speaker
ah Do you have one? Sure. yeah Okay. Okay. Just making sure. Yeah. um Yo, what up? It's Eric, AKA the Bag of Chandler, AKA Catch a Case. Yo, what up? It's Jeff, AKA Serving Coca Powder, AKA Nestle Quick. Yeah, wait, it's the real. good but yeah And this is Haas, don't know, AKA, I don't know, Candyman for candy bags. don't know. Yeah. That's what I'm talking about. Haas, yo, thank you for having us.
00:02:08
Speaker
I want to apologize first and foremost. Why? Because we pushed you off for three years. and it's it's crazy there was a pandemic It's crazy to look back in the DMs and be like, oh, oh no, yeah, oh, no, this is really like three years. It's not just saying it's been a long time. yeah It is truly like evidence of how long we've been like, we're working on stuff.
00:02:29
Speaker
Sorry, we're not promoting stuff. wrong. Yeah. We are busy people. This interview in a long time. It is. Yeah. Thanks for having us. Shout

Meeting Jeff and Eric

00:02:36
Speaker
out Trey. Trey did a party at Daily Paper and that's where we met in person. Correct. Yeah. And that's where I was just like, i would love to have you guys on like for real. But I think. That was three years ago? No, no, That was within the pandemic. Yeah. Yeah.
00:02:48
Speaker
So I hit you guys up when I first started the podcast correct yeah because you guys are one of my biggest inspirations. Like I used to listen to It's the Real religiously. Like I remember when you guys were bringing on guests and then you had them eat food. yeah so You're a long time listener. And and i remember the first iteration, which is now, I don't know. Do we say it's redacted now whatever?
00:03:07
Speaker
I mean, yeah, we don't talk about it. We definitely had a podcast in 09. Yeah, exactly. So I remember that. And then um just following you guys in the rap career.

Content Creation Journey

00:03:16
Speaker
Yeah. and there Like the the the videos, the one with Lil B. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Listen, we are. Maxby, no. Maxby, Maxby.
00:03:24
Speaker
We've been around. We've been around for a long time. It is crazy to think 18, almost 18 years of this. So that's a lot of content that we put online. It's funny. Our mom recently went to a family reunion down in D.C.
00:03:36
Speaker
and she was like, or in Florida, and she was like, how am I going to like tell people what you do or like where they can find you? i was just like, just Google. Google is your friend. Type in our names. Type in It's the Real. i don't. Don't explain what we do. I don't care. yeah It's not our target demo. no yeah I mean, it's definitely tough for for moms to be like, because everybody's like, you know, yeah, you know, but my my son just finished being the doctor and this and that. And then you're like, yeah, you know, my sons are making content online. Yeah, yeah, truly, truly. I mean, I think it's nice now that like a lot of our friends who are artists no know her, right? So like our mom went down to Houston and Bun is like, should I pull up on her? And it was just like, well,
00:04:18
Speaker
This is nice. You know? yeah You got to come to Thrill Burger. that's yeah That's so sick. I mean, you guys are super, like, you guys are legendary. Oh, thank you very much. Getting to talk to you at the trade. I call it trade day. was. It was basically a trade day party. And um it was just like, just being, it like, the funniest thing was you being like,
00:04:38
Speaker
Yo, what is up with all these betting ads and podcasts? We had like a good 15 minutes of us just being like, everything. It's crazy now. But... I thought you were gonna throw to an ad. Yeah, me too. I was gonna... On the way here, I was already like, all right, yeah. And this show is brought to you by Sneaker Bets. That's right. Where you can take a bet. on each one of our sneakers and see who's got the freshest of heat. Now we have to like really, now we have to like really like go in and say what every state is like, you know, doing about like betters who were like are like out of control. Like if you're a gambling addict in Massachusetts. Yeah. But here's the thing.

The Blog Era Podcast Creation

00:05:16
Speaker
I don't remember. Was the blog era, the narrative podcast that we did that took three years, yeah was that out at the point that we linked up? or is It was before. yeah Wait, ah in person? Yeah, in person. No, in person. After. Okay, cool. Got it. Yeah, because Trey Day was...
00:05:32
Speaker
Within the last year. I celebrate trade day every day. That's my thing. Shout out to Black Tray. of like yeah But it it's time is a weird thing because it really did take a long time. We were just talking about this. Like we thought it was going to take two months. It took three years.
00:05:50
Speaker
And then even that it comes out in 2023. The other day we celebrated two years yeah of of this podcast being out, which is wild. It's insane because yeah when we linked up, I was like, are you guys going to make this into a film?
00:06:03
Speaker
Yes. And so, yes yeah is this a yes or yes because I asked you or yes into both? Both, I think. Both, yeah. yeah And so I was like, because it's just so amazing. When I watch i went to a ah pre-screening or a screening, I think it was us screening of the mixtape documentary. Yes. um Up in the Bronx? Yeah. I was there, United Palace. Yeah. And I got, yeah, we were sitting there and Jada Kiss performed there. Yeah. yeahp um And I think I said, were you guys there? We were not, but like we we knew about it. yeah Yeah. And so that was like a moment where I was like, okay, this is dope. Cause I didn't know a lot of that stuff. And then when they sat down with DJ drama and talked about like how they Rico'd him over mixtapes.
00:06:46
Speaker
And then when you guys, it felt like a companion. Cause you, you get like a full 360 of it yeah um versus like an hour and a half, you know, like, so the blogger, uh podcast is maybe the one of the best things you ever put out thank you very much thanks it's it's wild um to think about because we lived it right we wanted to be those guys who would tell the story because like you don't want just some large media company to to jump in and act like they were there act like they knew the players act like they knew the storylines whatever
00:07:20
Speaker
We lived it, we saw it firsthand, we had two feet down in it, we ran around with these people, might as well like make that happen. um But we did it quietly, right? yeah We didn't tell anyone that we were ending the last podcast, we didn't tell anyone we were working on this thing, yeah we didn't update people. We had a Patreon, so people who were in that were aware of certain things, but it was a lot of work to not say anything. It was a lot of work to say nothing, yeah right? Especially because you guys spent a lot of years saying a lot. yeah Totally. like it is It is very difficult, too, to to so take a step back and and purposely shut up.
00:07:59
Speaker
And so in doing that, it was wild to see all these other people put out products that like weren't the same thing, right but like touched on things that we we knew and we didn't want to like put out there. We're like, oh, no.
00:08:13
Speaker
Is this... long form article going to ruin things? Is that documentary going to impede on what we're doing? Or is this tweet thread whatever? It was just like everything felt like an encroachment, but also we were just

Future Projects and Industry Impact

00:08:26
Speaker
like, but we're doing it so different. So if we went out, and again, pandemic was weird on a number of levels. So we weren't out at every party. There weren't parties to be at, right? But if we did link up with people, or if people hit us up, they'd be like, what you up to? We're like, hmm.
00:08:42
Speaker
nothing you know like sort of just like figuring things out yeah yeah so it was a lot of that so um i was very glad to to finish it very glad to put it out and even now like looking back i recently did a re-listen to it and i was like this stands timeless so i'm i'm very happy yeah yeah the the way that people idolize the that piff era yeah yeah you know, people wanted to always know more about it. yeah yeah And you'd get like little glimpses here and there on the forums and stuff like that. But it was never of the impact of of what you guys put out. Well, thanks. I think that what was really exciting for us is to be able to connect a lot of dots to, you know, to put into perspective and context to a thing that a lot of people could just look back at be like, well, this is recent history. Yeah. like
00:09:26
Speaker
Wiz Khalifa just put out an album that like feels like the blog era. So like how late, you know, how long ago could this have been? Drake and Kendrick are still like at the top of the charts and selling out stadiums across America. Like, why wouldn't, you know, I just sort of like get to that ah at another time. And this was like, hey, let's really put together a package, 10 episodes.
00:09:47
Speaker
500 hours 150 people that we spoke to all into uh you know 10 very neat and i think effective yeah yeah they were there i couldn't wait i felt like especially when you guys were putting it out it felt like the world was behind you oh i think so too yeah yeah it was every episode we had like full tweet like everybody was breaking it down oh man yeah yo jeff would be like please this was after elan bought twitter I was just like, I just want Twitter to just hold on long enough. Just long enough. So we can promote our podcast. yeah like That was the only... Like, please don't fail just yet. Like, you know, there would be moments when it was just like, Elon walks in with the stupid sink, right? Like, everything in the kitchen thing.
00:10:30
Speaker
And was just like, everyone's fired, right? It was like a precursor to the crazy... And he started pulling plugs and stuff. Yeah. And it was just like... What is he doing? And like, please just hang on, hang on for dear life so we can just promote this stupid thing.
00:10:43
Speaker
Yeah, now we don't even use it. Yeah, yeah exactly. There's no there's no point. yeah I mean, sneaker Twitter is the only reason I get on there. And sometimes I'd be like, I mean, I'm so like, I'm not big on social media in general. So like doing this podcast and like pushing it out. Yeah. You know, I mean, I'm pretty sure you guys are feeling that with the two Jews and two black dudes. Yeah. yeah The content just like always pushing out new clips. and Totally. like that Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
00:11:05
Speaker
It's tough. Yeah. um It is. ah there's There's a few things that are tough about that podcast. ah One is and. and you know, one is scheduling the guys. One is scheduling us. Yeah.
00:11:17
Speaker
And one is trying to break through. And we've had this this breakthrough and of momentum for the last like three months, yeah which is really exciting for us, right? Especially because this is a podcast that is eight years old and we are 34 episodes in, right? It's not a great ratio. Which we celebrate. yeah We celebrate. You don't understand how hype I was when those would you dropped those in to the real feed. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, yeah, let's fucking. Go. Yeah. And then you wait another six months. Yeah. I'm like, when is the next one? That's right. But it is exciting that people still hang around, that people see it, ah that obviously like we're, and I talk about like Jeff and myself and the locks excited enough to keep doing this after so long.
00:11:56
Speaker
um It's a lot of fun. But how do you promote it? Yeah. How do you put it out there? Instagram is important to us. Jeff is on TikTok, but I think that's just a ah sort of small part of this.
00:12:08
Speaker
Beyond that, it's like it's not Facebook. It's not Twitter. Yeah. Blue Sky is like fine, but it's not a thing. Yeah. um Threads. Yeah, like hand to hand, like, you know, oh and YouTube. YouTube is the the big thing for us where it's like we put a premium on content. I keep going back to like, okay, i we drew a hard line in the sand. We were like, we don't want to be on Twitter because it's accessible. Yeah, those are very kind words. But yeah, you know, so we're just like not on Twitter. Haven't been on Twitter in a long time. Yeah. But like,
00:12:40
Speaker
there The audience is there. yeah And so i'm like, do we you know put our morals to the side and like try and promote this thing? And I feel like we're still going to stand strong and like not do that. But like I was thinking about it last week.
00:12:53
Speaker
And then there's like the idea of like, and we've spoken about this over the last three months, because you know you prioritize this thing now, you have momentum. Everyone's very excited about it, yeah um the five of us. And it's like, let's really move this along.
00:13:06
Speaker
And we're like, oh, we should be doing press. We should be doing interviews. so this is a nice, timely thing. So appreciate it. Yeah. yeah And also, so there is a theme to this podcast. Yeah. Is it shoes? Yeah, exactly. But i wanted I wanted to hit you guys with the question that I ask everybody each week. And that question is, what's your first kicks with that first pair of sneakers you absolutely needed to have?
00:13:24
Speaker
Oh, well, needed to have this difference. Couldn't get whatever shoes I wanted. That's right. Yeah, yeah. I always say whatever is the best sneaker story that best the script describes you. First of all, I do. I feel like the question you're asking is me going to the shoe store and being like, I want those. And it's like, no And that's it. That's the story.
00:13:42
Speaker
we um if that's you feel If that's what you feel like, people are like, yep. Oh yeah, definitely. People are going to definitely click on that. Here's a viral story. yeah It's funny because we were just joking about this the other day. ah we've we've We've lived in the city for going on 18 years.
00:13:58
Speaker
um Part of what like really separated us from a lot of the internet, especially early on, was that we would like make it our business to show up places. yeah If you see our faces, if you're around, if you know that we're real people, you're not just the random like avatar on Twitter saying like wild things and you know. Not the egg on Twitter. Yeah. Yeah. If

Sneaker Culture and Personal Stories

00:14:18
Speaker
we show up, like if if.
00:14:20
Speaker
If Lloyd Banks has a problem with us, we can hash it out, you know, person to person, right? Which we did. Which we did. yeah yeah yeah But, but um you know, you you befriend people who are your own ah age, your own like crew. yeah And you all like elevate together and evolve together. So ah early on, we were friends with a lot of the complex people, right?
00:14:40
Speaker
um and you know And a lot of the bloggers. And so we were invited to Noah Callahan Bevers' like birthday party at some bar, and it was a trivia thing. So like, Jola Puma and B. Fred and you know different writers and people. We were just like, oh my God, this is so great. And we're a part of it, right?
00:15:01
Speaker
And this the trivia was all these different categories and you had to, you were working in teams. yeah And Jeff and I just didn't want to embarrass ourselves because so much of this trivia was about sneakers. And we knew nothing. And so like, it would be like, what is this shoe? But like, it wasn't like, I remember they, they, they would be like, what are these two songs that are playing at the exact same time? yeah And so like, you had to be like, okay, that's three, six mafia. And it's also Miley Cyrus. but like you're trying to compute this thing that's happening at this very same time. Left brain, right brain. yeah yeah Yeah. Yeah. And like, by the way, that would be an easy one. But like, you know, like it was like things of like some like rare song from 1993. And you're just like playing backwards and yeah on top of something else. Fucking like complex nerds yeah are just like all like loving this. And Eric and I are just like sweating. Yeah. But then they they they were like, um we I think it was just like outlines of shoes or something. Yeah. And anyway anyway and we were like, i don't know, a Hirachi. Yeah, I know. We're just like, ah you know,
00:15:58
Speaker
Tinker Hatfield, you know it's just like i you know throwing out stuff, it's like yeah I don't know. you know and And so we were talking about this the other day only because we were just like. We probably dead last. I'm sure. I'm pretty sure there was somebody not paying attention. by the way, that's so kind that you were like, hey, you guys did better than the person who wasn't even fully there. Yeah. Marissa just checked out. All that to say- No, you must have done better than that. Thank you. Today- imaginary scenario.
00:16:23
Speaker
I swear to God, and this is not true, but we said it the other day, we're like, we would kill it now. We would kill it if we walked in there. yeah like But I'm sure we'd just be like, uh. I don't know. They're obviously- Running back guys. Running back, running back. Invite me this time. Yeah. If Robbie Digital has a birthday party and like we have to show up, we are going to embarrass ourselves. it is just like- yeah out of ah First, I don't know. like We grew up- We grew up with like, um you know, our parents were like, you can get one pair of shoes, one pair of shoes like per year, right? yeah And they were going they were going to Caldor to get it, right? It wasn't like- Shout out Caldor. It was Caldor.
00:17:00
Speaker
Like i had shoes that were like- Ed Caldor. They had like- They were had like, instead of like, you know, checks or like stripes, it had like the year written on the side. and it was just like, you walk in and like have to like joke with like your friends about like what they are. And it was just not, we were not Jordan guys. We were not like. Well, no, but we weren't Jordan guys. i mean, one for the price, but also yeah because we were Knicks fans. And so like, how could you possibly. Yeah. um But ah I think that, ah you know, and we had phases, right? Like of, you know, wearing like,
00:17:33
Speaker
you know, whatever low shoes, Adidas or like, you know, Pumas that you could find. But I think when we moved to the city, when we really started to be a part of this thing that we wanted to be a part of, right, that we always admired from afar, yeah it became this thing where it was just like, well, now i'm going to go for sneakers that I like. that I want to you know rock.
00:17:56
Speaker
And I think that we both ah found silhouettes that that fit us. um Jeff is obviously- tech challenge. Yeah, definitely. But lot of high- a lot of a lot of like high you know yeah Yeah, well, so yeah i yeah, I do high tops and like, ah yeah, I guess high tops from like the 90s. Like a very like, um I was into pumps for ah second. Yep, you definitely were. You still got any left?
00:18:24
Speaker
No, they send him they they sent like the um the deep rounds, they sent the Basquiatts. I'm trying to think whichever, like i had ah I had like three or four of them over like the in the mid Yeah, fine.
00:18:38
Speaker
yeah um I was into, I have a lot of Barclays. I need to bring those back, man. I need to, because when I was in high school, it was always like you had to make that. I mean, same yeah thing. You had to make the choice. yeah Yeah. And it's like, it's like the pivotal choice because you're going to have to wear that shoe the whole year. Totally. Yeah.
00:18:55
Speaker
And I never took the bite. Because I feel like if I did the Barkley, Barkley's lasts longer. I think they look cleaner for, you can get through six months easily and they look cleaner because they're so chunky. But I went with like Hyper Flights and stuff that would crease super easy. like you oh my God. I remember we went down to, look, and we're also like,
00:19:16
Speaker
I think a nice thing about the people that we are and the work that we did that separated us from the pack that like, you know, Nike would send us sneakers, you know, starting at a certain point.
00:19:28
Speaker
And so I remember some of the first were like these flight 89s and we were going down to ah Orlando for NBA All-Star, right? And and I got on this plane and I'm wearing these, like and they were, I forget what colorway it was, but it was like, they were gray with like blue accents and and ah green accents. And I was like, these are the most fly shoes I've ever had in my life. And I was so proud of them.
00:19:53
Speaker
And I was just walking around with my like, ah toes curled under to not crease. So I was like working so hard walking through the airport with my bags and like, anyway, get on the plane.
00:20:06
Speaker
And ah there was a radio promo guy and named Henrock from Bad Boy who was sitting in the same aisle as us, but on the the other, that like two seats away. yeah And he like looked across the aisle and he was like,
00:20:20
Speaker
Nice sneakers. And I was like, I made it, right? Now I just have to walk around with my toes like you know just hurting so badly for the rest of the weekend. I'd probably jump out the plane with that one. It was great. It great. I really, really like I'd achieved something, and I just made sure to not crease these shoes. But my favorite silhouette is probably...
00:20:43
Speaker
You do air max. I do do air maxes. Um, not, not every air max. Like I can't necessarily pull off. Like,
00:20:53
Speaker
i I don't know if I can pull off a 95. I guess I have some, I feel like 95 is the the model that everybody kind of jumps on. Right. Like you're like in and out like you like a hopscotch with that one. I can't like, like, um, if you give me like, I got some 98s that I really like. Right.
00:21:10
Speaker
Um, and you know jeff had some 93s had a a phase you know jeff would go through phases yeah um i but i'm i'm really like you know i'm i'm like i i love the the first anniversary ones yeah like i love that colorway with the red right right yeah and um you know So um I don't want to be like Eminem where it's just like you only wear Air Maxes and that's it. Like Dre only wears like the Air Force Ones. Oh man, yeah. um But, oh, by the way, I can never do an Air Force One. Like I i wore- Really? I can't. i
00:21:46
Speaker
i I did buy a white-on-white Air Force Ones to wear to Clark Kent's funeral, right? That is the best way to, yeah, absolutely, um to pay tribute there. But ah normally I'm just, i it's not- For me. After that, I would probably throw it into the into the wires.
00:22:02
Speaker
After that. Walk out. and then yeah Yeah. No, that's it. they're They're back in the box. Like, you know, I've worn them that one time. But but that was it. And, you You're like Dame Dash. yeah That's right. Yeah. Wear once. That's it. yeah That's it You really think that you can keep watching this episode without like, subscribing, or leaving a comment?
00:22:19
Speaker
Come on, man. And also, if you've been listening to this episode, leave a review. But back to the episode. That's it. Yeah. I know a lot of people that went to that were wearing the list. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Totally. Totally. But shout out to everybody that's on the list. Absolutely. Guys who are not on the list. Shout out to Abdul. Abdul's our guy, right? Abdul's our guy. Yeah. And so it's funny. Future guest also. Right on. Yeah.
00:22:41
Speaker
But ah we we we definitely love we love to Listen, we we love our sneaker collection. Jeff's is enormous.
00:22:52
Speaker
Everyone who walks into the apartment like sees it, it's all out in the hallway. But okay but my thing is, because everybody, um you you go on Instagram and everybody has like the the shoes of like the moment.
00:23:05
Speaker
yeah i've never been that guy and so like i was gonna ask like it sounds like you you you're like you're stuck in between the ogs like well i just have my my own style right like i'm i'm happy with like the things that like i i like and so it's like i don't try and fit into the it it feels like an invitation for people to jump me yeah And so like, i that's like, that's not where I'm at. yeah And so like, I remember there was one time that I had like nice shoes. I forget what they were.
00:23:35
Speaker
Um, it must, oh no, I know, uh, uh, I got the Superbowl, um, uh, fuck. Um, they were from the Arizona Superbowl. Oh yeah. Yeah. Yep.
00:23:46
Speaker
The Arizona Superbowl. was at the one is that they're, the one with the strap. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. got the name of it yeah yeah So I had those and like you know now they retail for like a couple ah thousand dollars or whatever.
00:23:57
Speaker
And so like I feel weird walking with that. And like I've never been a designer guy. like i just don't I'm not a flashy type person. And so I've always just been the type to have low key, just cool sneakers from the 90s and like you know that's sort of my aesthetic.
00:24:13
Speaker
But it is nice. I will say. Yeah, just step out in it, man. Just step out in it. Oh, yeah. I'm not a big stepper.
00:24:21
Speaker
The one time i um somebody was like on the train and was like, what size are you? Was when I was wearing David Robinson's. Oh, wow. Yeah. And which are like the biggest shoes ever. like i cannot pull them off yeah in at this age yeah um or even back then. But like thankfully, it didn't go beyond like what size are you? They were just like, 12?
00:24:41
Speaker
twelve Cool. We have a... Oh, i think yeah. yeah think like yeah but This about to be like... my size. Yeah, yeah, exactly. And then just picks you up off the train and tosses you and takes your shoes. We have, we have a, um, we have, a core group of, of friends that, you know, we like to go out to dinner and, um,
00:25:00
Speaker
and you know hang out and everything. And for whatever reason, one night we got into like this argument on the group chat in the group chat where one of our friends was like, oh, I could pull off the South Beaches, like no problem, and whatever. Elites? Or the eights?
00:25:15
Speaker
Yeah, the eights. okay and And our other friend was just like, no, you cannot. Not only can you not, but like nobody can. And we were going out to dinner and he was like, I'm gonna, like he got so heated. And by the way, it's so him, but he's like, I'm gonna go and buy them right now. oh my god And wear them to dinner. And then we all decided, like let's all wear, and he didn't, which was very upsetting. But we all decided to wear the stupidest shoes that we have. yeah Or the most extravagant and dumb shoes that we have. yeah And I have the LeBron Watch the Thrones. wow yeah yeah And like, why? right like They sit on my shelf. But I was just like, okay, I'm gonna wear these stupid things that like if I get near you, it's like they're gonna poke out and scratch you, know scratchy right? um
00:25:56
Speaker
so But they're so elaborate and... why would anyone wear these but I wore them one time yeah the one thing about that shoe though sorry but the one thing about that shoe though is when it first came out everybody was like I gotta to get them I gotta to get them I gotta to get them then they finally released the shoe and it was like nobody wants they're like nobody I don't want them I don't want them but it's like yeah yeah they are i guess they are an art piece or whatever. yeah And I did wear them to dinner and we took a picture all of us together in the most elaborate stupid sneakers possible. but um I'm gonna need that picture for this clip. Yeah, definitely.
00:26:29
Speaker
I will send them to you. yeah ah it But it is funny too, by the way. You put all this like effort into shoes and sometimes, or a lot of times, people who take the picture, they'll crop out your shoes and it's like, why?
00:26:40
Speaker
Yeah. Like just do it vertically. Keep it in. Yeah. Or like step back. Yeah. Or like put it on like wide, you know wide angle or whatever. Yeah. Focus in just on the shoes. Yeah. yeah Forget the face. Just get the shoes. know Yeah. Yeah. The upper torso. And put like a complex like headline of, none oh my God, they debuted the Agassiz. Yeah. but you know what's you know what's crazy is that ah we we wear, we we tried the the time now that we're gonna like show off like our shoe collection yeah is when we go film with the locks right yeah yeah so for a podcast what's that yeah you yeah so with our podcast with the locks um where we review movies we go up to their studio and we'll all get together and everyone's you know bringing heat right and even though we're all getting into an age where just like comfort matters more than like you know how it's gonna look but
00:27:29
Speaker
um at some point, and they they know we're very close with the Pata guys. I know, yeah, i wanted to bring that up as well. Definitely, oh yeah. And so we we were like, hey, ah you know, the chlorophylls are coming out, so we're gonna get them, and the guys are just like, and Sheik will always complain that he has no sneaker plug, and we're like, you have fire all the time, right? yeah Like you are a liar. like and And so it's like, okay, cool.
00:27:53
Speaker
Sheik is a 13, Jeff is a 12, I'm an 11, and Stiles and Jadakiss are nines. And so when we hit up Pada, we're just like, hey, you know, what's up with the chlorophylls? They were like, we got you, two nines. And so they sent Stiles and Kiss theirs, and the rest of us are just like, well, I guess ah yeah i guess that whole plan of wearing matching chlorophylls is not gonna happen. What happened? they They sent the two, and the rest of us wore other shoes that were not. It was also late in the cycle, though. In the seating? Yeah, so like yeah they ran out of like all the human sizes, and they had to give them to the garden gnomes.
00:28:29
Speaker
They were just like, we got surplus of nines. yeah Yeah. But that is the only time that we're like really going to like show out, you know, it's just like, oh. And then Jada, I think like kind of overstates the kind of heat that we have because his collection is insane. Yeah. His collection. And then he's just like, well, you know, like, oh, these guys like they got like secret fire, like like these guys know how to do it. and it's just like you're far too kind. You got to break. You got to break out the LeBron wash of thrones in there.
00:28:59
Speaker
Yeah, honestly, I might. Just for that. Just walk in. Just for that. I will. That'd be kind of You just walk in like a movie, like a cartoon character. Big step. Big step. yeah He's going to just like... He's just going to sit across and like stare at them the entire time. yeah like There was a point where he took edibles on like during the episode. Uh-huh.
00:29:21
Speaker
And we're just like, no, like he's going to put him to sleep. And it did. And we had to tell Styles next time, please do not offer this man edibles. Like we need him be. Styles can handle it. yeah Jada cannot. Yeah. We need him to be like active. Yeah. act yeah i mean, you got to get those. ah Is this Italian?
00:29:35
Speaker
Yeah. know I know. Jada kiss Italian. Yeah. We recently, so we were invited to ah Jordan event at the Nike store in Soho.
00:29:46
Speaker
And we went down there and we walked in and some guy just was just like, it Italian? And we're like, oh. all right. yeah It's making its rounds. I truly cannot wait until we do some live shows and like they play that.
00:30:01
Speaker
People go crazy. Or if they do a show and it's so big that their crowd gets it. Start chanting. Totally. Totally. That would be crazy. He's going to have to put it into a bar something. Oh, no question. It's really...
00:30:14
Speaker
It is one of the great joys in our life yeah to be best friends with these guys because we grew up as like, you know, they were our musical heroes yeah and they lived 10 minutes away from us. yeah But it's like,
00:30:26
Speaker
we're never gonna meet them. right We're gonna be around them. And now it's just like, we text, we call, we hang out, we you know rag on each other. Somebody on in and our Instagram comments today was just like, their like friendship is convincing.
00:30:39
Speaker
And I was like, what? It's such a word. Wow. Convincing. It's like it's like you're you've paid them long enough yeah yeah that now it's like, all right, we don't need to pay anymore. yeah We still do because we're good people. You don't have to, though.
00:30:55
Speaker
Right as the the the episode ends, you slide the money yeah money folder. yeah This is a real thing where people believe that like like our dad created YouTube. but you know like We are... you know ah yeah paying the locks to hang out. like These things are really in our comments theres regularly. Yeah, I'm pretty sure there's... And it's just okay. Ours has got to be conspiracy theories. Oh, 100%. I wish there were more. Yeah. i mean I'm 100% inviting more conspiracy theories from listeners of this podcast. Open up the Reddit again. It's a real conspiracy. Oh my God, yeah. We went on The Breakfast Club years and years and years ago, right?
00:31:30
Speaker
The first time we did The Breakfast Club and we were like, well, we need to make a splash, right? Mm-hmm. And so this was the week after Kodak Black went up there with a ski mask. And so we were like, well, we got to go out there with ski masks. And so we each got ski masks.
00:31:42
Speaker
I cut a hole in the tops of my curly hair, like went out like yeah like i like a stalk of broccoli or something. And I like put my glasses over it. Yeah. With two holes again. Yeah. And ah and so that is the image that you see when you go to play that video. Right.
00:31:57
Speaker
And the funny thing is the people who remarked at zero point zero zero were just like, fuck these guys. And the same people who were just like, you're turning minutes later. They're like, oh, no, I like them. Yeah. That's just like the way it is. Right. I mean, that I do wonder about that because, yeah, we're in this now we're in this. I want to say just like fast fashion of content. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So it's like now when you make long form content, it's all about winning over somebody new every single episode. It's like, yeah it's tough because, you know, I was doing this as you know, yeah five years now and and you guys been doing it

Podcasting Challenges and Staying True

00:32:32
Speaker
for forever. yeah And i feel like I was talking about this recently where there was there was a moment where podcasting and getting new listeners was a lot easier than it is now. yeah because now Well, now it's oversaturated.
00:32:44
Speaker
Extremely saturated. And to the point where, you know, when you put out a clip, everybody always falls into the same, like, like we got to grab them in the first five seconds. Right. You know? So. Listen. Yeah.
00:32:55
Speaker
If there's anything that I can say about, like, that whole thing, I just, I think it's a phase. I think like these things come and go, like, do you remember that there was a point when YouTube only had, was like a ah max of like eight minutes. You can only put up like eight minute clips. yeah Now it's like, you can watch String Champs for three hours, four hours, right? yeah But like, I think these things like come and and and they go and they evolve. And this place that we're in where people are, you know,
00:33:23
Speaker
used to a short attention span, I don't think that's forever. yeah I don't want to believe that's forever. yeah I don't know believe it's forever. and i think that like I think that podcasts, if you stick to who you are and what you think is good or what you think is funny or what you think will hit, like that's all that matters because the audience will always find you. It's just a matter of like what is your voice? like make it worthwhile and then people will listen. So like, you know, we have, you know, we think of, of, and we've gone through lots of different phases of podcasting ourselves. Right.
00:34:03
Speaker
But we've, we've found this place now with two Jews and and three black dudes yeah um where it is essentially, And I'm not going to video first, but we think of it as segments first rather than like a long form thing. It's like, let's stitch together a bunch of segments together.
00:34:21
Speaker
And then people will watch it on Instagram and I'll draw them to YouTube or they'll listen and I'll subscribe on Spotify or whatever it is. But it's it's more of that and people can listen however they want or experience it however they want. And that's fine. yeah Like if it was just like, if we...
00:34:39
Speaker
Honestly, if we subscribed to hit them in the first five seconds, like make it worthwhile and click baby, you know, for those people or or or just looked at the stats and it's like, well, these people tuned out after that. If we just operate on that.
00:34:54
Speaker
What fun would it be? It wouldn't be fun at all. yeah Right? So now you're just making a machine. That's right. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But we are the Build-A-Bear of shows. Yes, we are. Yeah. I'll clap that. I'll clap that up. Let's clap that up, damn it. That's right. Yeah.
00:35:09
Speaker
It's just interesting, too, because, you know, I feel like y'all are part of the forefathers of hip hop podcasting. Yeah. You know, yeah they like everybody likes to, you know, ah wash out WANEP, but it's WANEP and y'all guys. WANEP was number one. Yeah. Yeah.
00:35:23
Speaker
But yeah, it is it is nice to be um both ahead of the curve, but also like, well now it's much better to be on the curve. Yeah, think you guys are on the curve. By the way, i thought you were gonna be like, you are the forefathers of hip hop, and I was like, oh man. yeah we We went to the Loxx have ah an annual show. Sorry, I thought you were goingnna be like forefathers, and then like ah to to misquote A$AP Ferg or A$AP Rocky, we were just like, who are the two others? Yeah, yeah. So we went to... um We went to the locks have a yearly show, an annual show up in Westchester at the Westchester County Center. Yeah. And they bring out all these people, 50 and Mary and all, you know, different fabulous and, um you know, all these different acts.
00:36:04
Speaker
And so we went up the first year they did it. And as we were leaving and, Again, we grew up 10 minutes down the road. That's crazy. It is crazy. So we're at the Westchester County Center and we had returned home and we're with the guys. And this feels like really like significant for us personally. Yeah. It's always nice to return home and be like somebody.
00:36:25
Speaker
Right. Like I left. But look, I earned this. I did the thing. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And so we were with our brother Dan. Shout out Dan, man. Shout out to Dan. After that episode where you guys mentioned his full name, i yeah i me and him became linked LinkedIn. Oh, okay no kidding. Oh, there you go. Yeah.
00:36:41
Speaker
Oh, shout out to Dan. Shout out to Dan. Well, we don't talk. You could. You have the ability to. Maybe. Dan, endorse him. What the fuck? So we're up there and we're leaving.
00:36:53
Speaker
And we ran into a friend who used to work at Hot 97 and we're catching up and these two guys come over and they were just like, you guys don't know like how important you are to this thing. And we're like, oh man, like, thank you so much. Like that is really, yeah like really like genuine and awesome. And what a, what a thing to, and he's like, no, really like a lot of people don't give you the credit you deserve. He's like, oh, you know, he's like, but I recognize you. Yeah. I recognize you. I see you and I know your history. He was just like, I was locked up for a long time and like, you know,
00:37:23
Speaker
but you guys really did. You've been doing it for a long time, like all three of you, and we're like, oh, shout out to Dan. We're like, okay, all right. And he's like, no, really, like you guys put a lot of people on, you made your mark, you you you're white guys in the space, but you really did it. And man, like people don't give you credit for like being there at the early end. We're like, yeah, yeah, right, yeah, that makes sense. And he was like, no, really, from the very earliest days, like when white people were doing it, that was you guys. And the more he talked, I was just like,
00:37:52
Speaker
I was like, okay. And I was like, oh i I know what he means. And he doesn't mean it's the real. And I was like, I don't want to let this guy down. So he took a picture with us.
00:38:03
Speaker
And the moment he left, I turned to everyone. and I said, he thinks we're the Beastie Boys. Yeah. And we were just like, we think that's the funniest thing ever. ever And then he came back. came back. Oh, my God. Because he was like, who are you guys? really Who do you think we are? Yeah. yeah and he was And he was just like, you tell me first. And we're just like, well, OK, so we're not the Beastie Boys.
00:38:32
Speaker
We are It's the Real, which. I hope means a little something to you. yeah but um But you could just like see like the light dim behind his eyes. Like it was just like, Eric's like explaining like, oh yeah. And then we do, you know, all the people into our apartment and just like, oh, there's nothing. I just want to go home. It's fine. but Like my picture was with nobody. It's just like, who cares? He probably still has the picture.
00:38:52
Speaker
yeah Sure. But he, you know, Do you ever go through your phone and like find pictures like how did what is this right because recently within the last like two years Apple made a thing where it's like all the pictures that are shared in your group chats. Yeah. Are all a sudden available. Yeah. In your personal thing.
00:39:09
Speaker
So I found some pictures and I was just like with the with someone I don't talk to anymore and I was just like. I was like, what is this? And then I was just like, save shared photo. Like, absolutely. Like, like give me this. Like, I was like, I don't know. crazy. One time we were down at South by Southwest with Nardwar and we're having like, you know, a lovely time hanging out. We're walking the streets. how that conversation just goes. I mean, great. He's he's exactly. he exactly he know quite like oh he so He's just like, he's like tidbits about you guys. No, he doesn't have to ask any questions. He knows everything. Cause he's got to know yeah yeah everything. But so he was walking and suddenly he goes, oh my God, it's Sammy Hagar.
00:39:45
Speaker
And so he runs after this, after Sammy Hagar. Now by the way, Nardwar running is exactly what you expect Nardwar running to be. Yeah, it is. like It is crazy. Yeah, well, you were just doing like the wobble, but like that's not, doesn't run like the wobble. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:40:00
Speaker
But so he runs and he he approaches Sammy Hagar and he takes a picture and then he goes, not Sammy Hagar. now Yeah. So like I wonder if he has that picture. i hope so. And now he knows everything about fake Sammy Hagar. Yeah. He put he put it in his group chat. Yeah. yeah And now it's come it came up for somebody else. And they're like, is this Nardwar and Sammy Hagar? Yeah. and they're like, no, it's not.
00:40:19
Speaker
yeah And then he sent it to another group chat. And and and then just. Just imagine Sammy Hagar taking a picture with not Nardwar. I know. It's insane. We have a picture with um with a guy who was dressed up as Jesus. um In Philadelphia. and Made in America. ya Oh, wow. Don't don't know. like No shoes, full robe, beard. That's like his thing. He's like the Philly Jesus. yeah ah So that was the thing.
00:40:43
Speaker
Also. Did he get it for free? Did what? Did he get in for free then? would think so. I would hope so, yeah. I mean, a man can perform miracles. Like, you better. So ah also, I promise you, i was at the Dunkin' Donuts, like around the corner from our apartment. So someplace I go to regularly. Yeah.
00:41:02
Speaker
Our old apartment. And I was just standing in line one day, and it's a small space, and I looked to my left, and who is standing there? But the guy oh right who is the Tupac impersonator.
00:41:16
Speaker
And like it is his thing. Like pierced nose, shaved head, like mustache, like goatee. Like he is Tupac. Like everything about him down to like he really has like thug He really has thug life on like yeah on him. right Like he lives he lives that life. Like he's about that life. Right.
00:41:33
Speaker
And so he's standing right next to me wearing a jacket as if I wouldn't know was him. Uh-huh. with all of like Tupac like covers like on it, right? A big jacket. Which Tupac famously did. Sure, yeah, totally. um But I was like, this is crazy.
00:41:47
Speaker
And I really tried to take a picture, but didn't. And I was also like, maybe that's bad karma. Well, you were a little new to the game in terms of like taking pictures of strangers. Yeah, how are you? no no Now you're really good.
00:41:58
Speaker
I am very good. I just recently, I was in a train. and you know You ever follow that account? um Influencers in the Wild? Yeah. So... I was in a train literally a couple days ago.
00:42:10
Speaker
Monday. It was literally other day. Same car? Yeah. Same car. Person walked in and they're doing a full model shoot in the train. Oh, no kidding. I pulled out the phone. I got it on video. Yeah. You gotta do you got to be slick with it. yeah you You have to be slick. You have to be.
00:42:23
Speaker
I... um there was a guy who was wearing a shirt that said, ah don't stand up when the plane lands or something like that. And- Wait, what? Yeah. um Well, I that's like a thing. You know when it when the plane lands and everyone jumps into the aisle to like that guy? Because I thought it was- You thought it was like a safety protocol. Like clap. we Remember? No, clapping. but yeah are you ah Are you a clapper? No. Hell yeah. But have a little have a little respect for those who do for various reasons, okay?
00:42:54
Speaker
um No, no, no, but by not saying it, now you make it sound crippling. Okay, so we have some friends who- ah Also, we had a podcast, we have a podcast. I know, yeah. Yeah, you're captain speaking. So we have we have some friends um and they said it's a thing for you know people from the islands to you know clap and celebrate. when And I was like, cool, I respect that. yeah So like that was information I didn't have before. But standing up,
00:43:23
Speaker
when you land to grab your shit and like just stand there and they didn't even open the cabin yet. And your butt's in my face. Like, yeah like yeah do not want. Never. So I did see a guy who turned the corner. ahead Jeff and I were walking back home last week and I see a guy next to some girl and he's wearing a shirt that says like, do not stand up when the plane lands.
00:43:44
Speaker
And I was just like, oh, okay. So without saying anything to Jeff. way that Eric sprinted. So I have to go. i have to go. He went to the opposite side of the block. Yeah. All the way to the other end and then circled back around and got them like TMZ. Like it was like covertly like took the picture of the guy with Jeff like behind like being like.
00:44:06
Speaker
You know, like that. And I was like, nice. And then I sent it to every group chat that I have. i was And it's it's funny too, because Jeff and I are in so many group chats together. right yeah So I hit, and we have this routine now where it's just like, all right, fine. You want to have your fun? I'll have my fun too. Right?
00:44:22
Speaker
So every chat that I sent the picture to Jeff had a response and then he just like copied that. And I would send it to another group chat and Jeff would copy his response. Was he just like, oh, whoa. i I thought the response was like, i now you got the the bat the behind side. You get both angles. Work in tandem. yeah I definitely just said, well you've never seen Eric run that fast. It was insane. But you have to copy that piece and then send it to this person and that person and that person.
00:44:49
Speaker
I do. I definitely because we touched on it. But how did you guys meet the guys from Pata? um Premium Pete. Shout out to Premium Pete. Shout out to Premium Pete who, listen, again, we've been around. We've done cool stuff.
00:45:01
Speaker
And Pete was just like, he he really liked us and appreciated the work that we did and that we were genuine and true. And he wanted to support Let me tell you, at the beginning of our career, the amount of, and shout out to everybody who sent stuff, but man, like. It was bad. It was unwearable, right? It was bad. Like t-shirts that you couldn't do.
00:45:23
Speaker
Like enormous, like Costco size boxes of things would show up and you'd be like, I can't wear any this. None of Just like going through, like, and just like take it to Salvation Army and be like, I hope it goes to, you know, people wear can't do that now. That's the problem. You can't do that now. definitely not. You get to. I'm not saying I'm just saying as a content creator, like being content. I agree. Yeah. And it's like you have to make the one video to be like, hey, I got it. And then.
00:45:47
Speaker
Yeah. fed so many people in these streets. We fed the streets. Yeah. it no it Like we've gotten some sneakers, too, where it's just like this is for friends and family. And it was just like, oh, I i can't. Like my name's on like the. the the tongue the barcode no it's just like oh like you want to sell it with the box but it's just like box not included like yeah like anyway um but uh so you get to a a place where um people will will send you good clothes and pete was one of those guys who was just like hey i love what you guys do you should meet my friends from patta and patta has been
00:46:23
Speaker
Great supporters of us. I was wearing Pata earlier. You were. Well, shout out Union too, man. We're not talking about Union right now. I'm sorry. about Pata? Pata are great guys who... But shout out to Union. Pata are great guys who we love when they come here.
00:46:39
Speaker
ah We've been lucky enough to go see them in Amsterdam. We've supported at all their stores in Milan and London and Amsterdam and the pop-ups that they do in the States. And it's just a brand that we love and we love the people there and they've been supportive throughout our career and you know it's it's really nice to to rock clothing that you like yeah um and by people that you like by people that yeah they're they're their stuff for the olympics yeah you know that was just they are they are and you know what we respect them because they don't water down their stuff they make stuff that like you want to buy too like there was a uh
00:47:19
Speaker
we didn't you know I had their, like, the the Coral Blue Air Maxes that they made. yeah That Jeff got me for my birthday one year. And that's like supporting them buying it. yeah That's not like getting it for free. This is like, hey, we support the brand. That run of Air Maxes was fantastic.
00:47:37
Speaker
It's incredible. The white on whites? Yeah. That white on white is amazing. The gold ones. like i just I think they're all so great. And then then you start to get into like like the double XL freshman list, like you know the fake ones that go out there. and like You start to see like the fake colorways that people do for the Pata stuff. And it's just like, oh, I really rock with that. and it's like, oh.
00:47:55
Speaker
Break my heart. It's not real. that's I mean, it's crazy. but they they're They do such amazing stuff that you know i definitely wish they had a storefront out here. But like you guys were part of seeing a lot of the streetwear starting to bubble up. And what was that like? what was What was that being able to go down to Soho and see the start of like Union?
00:48:15
Speaker
extremely Extremely cool. yeah at a time well you And you know what? And this is something we didn't get to talk about. at length in the Blog Era podcast, but all of those brands, Diamond and Union, Tendeep, Hundreds yeah and Tendeep and stress Cooks and Castles. and castles yeah What was the, oh shoot, there's so many, there's so many of them. Yeah. Shouts everybody on Karma Loop. Yeah. Honestly.
00:48:40
Speaker
But those... Jack Threads. Those brands. Jack Threads. Oh my God. those I was Moose Unlimited. I always say this. Moose Unlimited. Wow. Yeah. the but they But these brands supported artists. Yeah. And allowed them to like create.
00:48:53
Speaker
Right? Like they they funded them. they They allowed people to live in the city, to be around and you you know make music, make videos, yeah make movies. yeah Undefeated, Undercrown. All of them.

the Mishka. Mishka, I felt like, Mishka is like kid super now. yeah Cause I felt like, cause Mishka was so everywhere yeah and funded a lot of these like events and stuff like that. Everywhere depending on where you were. yeah Everywhere Brooklyn.
00:49:22
Speaker

Shout out to going. Oh, by the way, I have a pair of the Don C like three one twos. No, Jeff. Jeff has the twos. Jeff has the two. Which color?
00:49:55
Speaker
Blue. But I haven't. I love the blue ones. Yeah. Blue and cream. No, no, no. But Jeff, Jeff wore them. We did a show at SOB's that I did. Yeah. I've worn them once. But the the immortalized. Yeah. That's right.
00:50:08
Speaker
But I have the 312s, which are like the they're like the Frankenstein. Yeah. you know It's a Jordan 3 bottom yep with a Jordan 2 mid. yeah And ah Jordan 1 like the is it the high and the the toe? Yeah.
00:50:24
Speaker
yeah yeah well it But it has the strap too. I think the strap is not correct. You sound like Noah Callahan. And we're like, i don't know. ah Don C made them. yeah yeah But anyway, I have those and they're they're just too high for me.
00:50:39
Speaker
right i So again, they sit on my shelf. I think that was a test. It was like different parts of different shoes and you had to guess what they were. And it was just like, I don't know. This is a party? Yes, correct. I don't think I would ever do that for my party. no Well, no, but that's what Noah did.
00:50:53
Speaker
Listen, people c celebrate it in different ways, man. you is there a Yeah, shout out. yeah who is is there a is there like a Was there a prize? Yes, probably. We didn't win it. All I know is that if there was a prize, like we were absolutely not in the running. like We were so far beyond. like If you are watching this and you are at that party, please write it like a little synopsis of what was going on. and if you won that prize. yeah yeah i um I mean, it was like a bar trivia thing, but like yeah imagine like losing every single round. like We were just like, we were so out of our depth. I'm not good with like, I'm good with sneaker facts. like yeah i can give but By the way, thank God. I'm the ringer, you gotta bring me in. this is my one thing and I'm bad at it, I'd be like, oh no. We have to sit you down on the couch.
00:51:39
Speaker
ah you Sneakers, you know, it's alright. It's alright. But the... But it's like... My thing is like I do know stupid facts. Like stuff that people wouldn't even think about. Same. Name one.
00:51:51
Speaker
ah I'm trying to think. Let's see. The... Damn, now I'm blanking. no yeah that i mean that the worst That's the worst thing you can do. of course yeah use and Name one. yeah yeah right That's like when people come up to us they're like, tell us a funny story. yeah yeah Oh no, I can do that. yeah I can tell a funny story.
00:52:11
Speaker
or Or what do you think? ah Because i wanted it I wanted to ask you this. You go up to Tupac Impersonator, right? And he goes, yo, man, you know, like, big fan, blah, blah, blah, whatever. You say something. That's what I say to him? Yeah, as okay yeah. just Just to warm him up. Eric's big fan of Tupac. Big fan of Tupac Impersonator. That's right.
00:52:28
Speaker
What's your favorite Tupac song? Like you gotta hit him with that. Oh, right. Yeah. Wait, sorry. You're trying to impress the Tupac impersonator. No, no, no. You lower his guard by saying you're a fan. Yeah. Right? And then you hit him with like the most craziest question, which I feel like it would be that.
00:52:42
Speaker
No, here's what I would really do. I have so many questions for the Tupac impersonator and none of them involve Tupac. Yeah. First question is like, are you online? Yeah. That's really, that's really what it was. What's the app? Yeah. I'm like, what's your whole thing? I literally, are you on? Yeah. Are you next? Yeah.
00:52:59
Speaker
Ask him what his Instagram is. It's amazing. Yeah. Or he's like, or you see the one, like the one apple crumble. I don't know what's the, you know, the apple Yeah, the crawler. Yeah, the crawler. You go and be like, hey, there's only one left. Uh,
00:53:13
Speaker
Are you going for that? Yeah. Yeah. and in a yeah That's it. That's the end of the story. Honestly, the more conversation I can have with the Tupac impersonator, the better. Yeah. I don't know. like or Maybe I go and I ask him, what's your first pair? And he's just like... And he's like, Cortez's or something. would love...
00:53:30
Speaker
yeah okay we should get the tupac impersonator on this show this like please don't that is the one live show we do a live show you do a live show with him yeah us three oh let's go absolutely sign us up do it in baltimore absolutely yeah yeah we're tupac yeah so um we there was point we had this long-running podcast weekly podcast where all these like artists and behind the scenes people and interesting people that we felt deserved more shine should be on on our our platform rick ross cardi b migos uh drake's dad our mom right you know small names a lot of people uh there was a point and by the way we reached out to we were trying to get like matt damon on we were trying to get tina fey on
00:54:18
Speaker
We legit tried very hard and I believe got yeah an agreement to get the Benihana chef slash DJ slash DJ that worked for Tyrese.
00:54:30
Speaker
That's crazy. know if you know this. Tyrese has a Benihana. Had. Had. Had. Had a Benihana. Tyrese had a Benihana in his backyard. Which he called Gibbsy Hanna because his name is Tyrese Gibson. Oh my God. And ah yeah, he had this guy who would...
00:54:47
Speaker
you know around all the branded Benihana stuff, a guy would do all the smoke stack and he would do the shrimp. You think he'd be choo-choo in the- Yes, 100%. Yeah, because one of our friends went there yeah and experienced Actually, two of our friends went there. yeah And- With Lonely Island and some the- had a whole night there.
00:55:09
Speaker
And ah so that happened. But we were like, we need to get this guy on the podcast. He agreed. And then I think the pandemic hit or something. What it was was was that the pen was in myth episode he would yeah yeah he was in LA. We were in New York. And then like we were like, oh, no, we we'll be out there soon.
00:55:25
Speaker
and then that trip got pushed back. And so it just never happened. But it would have been an amazing episode if we were on Twitter. We still have the DMs. We could make it happen. Mm-hmm.
00:55:36
Speaker
and we' back yeah I don't know if you want him on your podcast. Find out what his first shoes were. Oh man. yeah i Unless he's going actually do the the whole shebang as he's talking. you Wow. It would terrible for sound. But it would great. We'll mic up in a visual spatula. Can I just say, as people who like had people eating on our podcast that was strictly audio only, doing things that are for a ah a visual medium for an audio thing, not great. Yeah. yeah I'm glad that we switched it up. yeah we like We made a good choice. I always wondered, like how crazy is that you invited these people over to your house yeah yeah and they came?
00:56:13
Speaker
yeah yeah Yeah. I mean, that's that is crazy. um It's crazy that people People came over with like all of their friends. All the goons too. And they all stuffed in an elevator to get up to the fourth floor at our old apartment, which was small. Then we moved to a bigger apartment, which is on the first floor. And that was nice because people could just like, just come right in and um But the downside is that people get so comfortable that they don't want to leave. So like Jim Jones would just be like hanging out on our couch and we're just like, man, we haven't eaten dinner yet. And like, we got to go to the grocery store. And like, I don't want to be rude, but like,
00:56:49
Speaker
It's also our apartment. Yeah. can you Can you go home? Yeah. And like we love Jim Jones. Yeah. Great guy. Yeah. Like and we could talk all night. Yeah. But we don't want to. Yeah. yeah Sometimes you just want to like watch YouTube and like eat my dinner, you know.
00:57:03
Speaker
But like Jim Jones is there forever. Rick Ross there forever. But yeah again, nice, nice people. Yeah. writer And it is wild to have all these people come over to our apartment to the point where. We have friends who were just like, you can't move, like this is such a famous space. And we're just like, that will not dictate no yeah how I operate my life. mean, look, it's crazy to have, like it is i would say, yes, there's like a lot of history in the place before, but like you can always make new history. ah Agreed. Thank you. yeah We need to have you talk to our friends who are just like, and to never move. Add me the group chat. Exactly right. But with we're towards the end of the podcast. i I wanted to, I guess a visualization of, but we never actually figured out which is the first pairs you actually want. Oh, sorry. so Oh, first pairs that I want? Oh. First pair that I wanted that I got was the Shaquille O'Neal's. Okay. The Shaqnosis or the... No, not the Shaqnosis. It was the... You're talking about the blue chips one. oh Yes. Yeah, that one. Yeah.
00:58:00
Speaker
Oh man, first pair that I really wanted
00:58:06
Speaker
the chlorophyll in my size it is like yeah now i i i wish that because i found my silhouette i wish that i could get all of the pata shoes that they have that are air maxes that are just that i love i love it and i i just wouldn't deviate um i have so many pairs of shoes that i really enjoy yeah um but uh those are the ones that i war until the souls were gone.

Shoe Appreciation and Personal Style

00:58:33
Speaker
yeah like Really like tried to like keep going and um I'm going to re-up at some point soon. You gotta. yeah
00:58:39
Speaker
it's We could always talk about Eric yeah having mean his air walk phase. Oh, you had an walk phase? I did have an air walk phase. yeah Like chunky air walk? no No, like skater air walk. Yeah, the chunky skater air walk. sure, yeah, yeah, yeah. The brown joints. I thought you meant like chunky like in modern terms where it's just like the Balenciagas that are just like...
00:58:56
Speaker
Yeah, bubbled out. yeah No, thank you. oh But I want you guys to think about that time. Well, I mean, that's more recent for you. Yes. Yeah. But for Jeff, it's yeah way back. yeah Yeah. So now you're older. You behind young Jeff. what would you tell your younger self?
00:59:11
Speaker
um Shoes are forever. There you go. Yeah. No, I mean, like, I think that, like, I appreciate my my shoe journey. I think that, like, it took me a while to be able to afford the shoes that I loved as a kid.
00:59:23
Speaker
And, like, I am recreating those same silhouettes. yeah But, like, I appreciate my shoes so much more now than I used to. But I'm also the type of person who will wear them to to death. Yeah. Same as you should. I'm so glad that like we we weren't able to get the shoes that maybe like we wanted or other kids had at a young age because like...
00:59:48
Speaker
stuff comes and goes yeah right and i think that we grew into a place where it was just like you know what we know what the value is of shoes we wear them we also keep them nice and i think we love shoes and sneakers in a very like healthy way now yeah not and that's not to discount whatever anyone else does but for us i think we each uh grew to yeah you a good place you keep your shoes in good condition i do not um Wear your shoes. Wear your kicks. Yeah. I'm sorry. I do want to re-answer the question, though. You asked me I would say to my younger self.
01:00:18
Speaker
ah You know, your your feet are going to keep growing. What would you tell your younger self ah as they open that box? Yeah. That's the last part of that question. as As my younger self opens the box, I would say... um And this may be cliche, but it's the you make the shoes.
01:00:39
Speaker
The shoes don't make you. yeah um Because i I really do believe that like, you know, um you can pull off to my younger self. You can pull off whatever. Right.
01:00:50
Speaker
Airwalks. Except for the Dancy 312. They just won't. It won't work. But, um, try again. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Dust yourself off and try again. Yeah, yeah. i thought about wearing, i have the, um, have the Travis Scott 4s. Uh-huh. I love those. In, like, the oiler blue. What size are you again?
01:01:07
Speaker
Oh my god. My size, my size, my size, my size. Um, um, I'm a size 11. Um, shout to Pata. But the Travis Fours, I love them, but they really have to be the right situation. But I can freak them and pull it off now. But what I would say to my younger self is, you're awesome.
01:01:28
Speaker
and And whatever is on your feet is is good enough. yeah Even if they don't have checks on them and they just have numbers on the side. There you go. You know? Yeah. and That's all it takes. ah Let everybody know where to find y'all.
01:01:40
