Train Design Deep Dive! Finding a Balance Between Rider Comfort and Visuals

E14 · The Inverted Creative Podcast

We're time traveling, and not just on the extreme spinner trains! This episode's deep dive is all about the good, the bad, and finding the balance in both in terms of train design aesthetics and ergonomics. We battle a lot of tech issues that we hopefully edited out well enough (also Allison's audio kinda sucks for some reason), Allison went on multiple trips recently and talks about those for awhile, Jenn has some thoughts about an unexpected train design, and  one listener (hi Alex!) wrote us a novel of a comment that none of us read in advance, naturally.

Introduction and Time Travel Anomaly

00:00:00
Speaker
You are listening to the Inverted Creative Podcast. I'm Allison. I'm Bryant. And I'm Jen.
00:00:17
Speaker
So did you guys know that I can see the future? What? I know exactly what is going to be talked about in our next episode. I know the answer to your trivia question.
00:00:29
Speaker
I know it all. You know what's funny is i actually do too. Me three. Wow. I don't even know how to lead into this episode because we already talked about our little time travel issue in episode 15 and you're listening to episode 14 right now.
00:00:47
Speaker
Even though we already recorded episode 15 and we're recording episode 14 literally less than 12 hours before it goes live. Is that correct? Yes. It's going to be a busy night for me.
00:00:59
Speaker
And episode 15 isn't going to be live until May. So I don't even know how we... It's like i can't we can't reference anything we just talked about. But that's kind of what's in our brains.
00:01:10
Speaker
Yeah. This should be fun, guys. And have to go to bed in like an hour and a half. Jen apparently did not sleep well last night. I did not.
00:01:21
Speaker
Your baby girl got glutened. Did not feel good. Got glutened. Allison, you're our only hope tonight.

Exciting Topics and Trivia Revisit

00:01:29
Speaker
Great. Can you save this episode? ah Will you save the episode?
00:01:33
Speaker
um i have a really important thing to talk about in this episode. i have been waiting and excited to talk about it since we said the topic. So I actually have enough energy for sure to get that part of the topic out.
00:01:47
Speaker
Wow. I'm impressed. um I'm very excited about it. i Jen planned a little bit for this episode. Yeah, i really did. Not much, but I did plan ah little bit.
00:01:58
Speaker
It's not written in our notes at all, so I have no idea what she's going to say. Oh, I'm so excited. I'm so excited. I actually am looking up the name of it because I do not know the name, but I am very well prepared. That tracks.
00:02:11
Speaker
That very much tracks. I think my mentality was, you know, episode 15, as you'll see, was kind of, quote, like, my episode, my guest. So in this episode, not one of like, not a subject that I would say I'm an expert in.
00:02:28
Speaker
So you might hear me a little less, but you know, the, the topic is train design and any topic that has the word design in it feel that's when we rely on Alison. To be fair, it's more about writer experience than anything.
00:02:45
Speaker
All right. I i could. I almost almost cursed today. Well, wow. I could. I don't even know how to to say it. F with that. Can I say that? Sure. We're up hot start tonight. You can vibe with that.
00:02:59
Speaker
Vibe with that. There we go. ah Heck yeah.
00:03:04
Speaker
Brian, I don't even remember what trivia question was last time. It would help if I did too, right? that was No, I remember. I remember. ah Because episode 13, that was about park layouts, which that was kind of my idea because I really wanted to talk layouts.
00:03:22
Speaker
And it was a common bond question. I said, what do the following four parks have in common? I believe it was Park Asterix, Disneyland in California, Tokyo DisneySea, and Canada's Wonderland.
00:03:35
Speaker
And I wanted a ah specific answer. And the fact the fact is all four of those parks have a mountain kind of in the middle of the park.
00:03:46
Speaker
They all have a mountain. Matterhorn's off to the side a little bit, but it's pretty much in the middle. And then Tokyo DisneySea has a volcano. Canada's Wonderland literally right in the middle.
00:03:56
Speaker
And Park Asterix has that like dude that's like sitting at the top. I apologize to our French friends because I'm i'm not ah familiar with the comics, but... There you go, guys.
00:04:07
Speaker
They all had mountains in the middle of park. Yeah, I remember you originally had like a different idea for the trivia question and then you just threw a curveball and asked something completely different at the end of the episode. Yes, I definitely broke up.
00:04:18
Speaker
I was sitting there literally just like, I have no idea.
00:04:23
Speaker
It was also like all parks that hadn't really been to. um We did have one person respond, give an answer. Jude on Spotify, I believe they left a comment and said all of the parks have a lake as a central feature.
00:04:34
Speaker
Was there guess?
00:04:37
Speaker
Um, I guess he's not wrong. Or they're not wrong.
00:04:43
Speaker
I guess, yeah, Disneyland is by the Frontierland section. I'll say it's acceptable. I'll say it's acceptable. Good job, Jude. You got a perfect line.

VelociCoaster Celebration and Theme Park Adventures

00:04:55
Speaker
And a quick update on Coaster of Madness, which has ended officially. i mean it ended a few weeks ago. feels so um long ago. Absolute blowout. VelociCoaster just dominated like no other coaster dominated. it wasn't even close from a host perspective. I didn't hate it because it wasn't very stressful.
00:05:13
Speaker
didn't to worry about vote buying or people getting too angry in the in the replies. It just flat out kicks a mess. Yeah, this this episode would have taken a very, very, very different turn.
00:05:30
Speaker
Oh, I know. If it went the other way. i oh We have to shout out G Prodigy, now who, if you don't know, is like, he was like the head manager, designer of Velocicoaster. What's it? what kind of Creative director or something. Creative director.
00:05:44
Speaker
Yeah. Something like that. um He helped push it. So listen, that is legal. That is quite literally his ride. And I think that definitely helped us sway the boat a little bit. So congratulations to Velocicoaster. It's second win.
00:05:59
Speaker
Yeah, I also rally pretty hard. G Prodigy, if you happen to be listening to this podcast for for some reason, we would love to have you on. Velocicoaster is all of our favorite roller coasters in addition to the Coaster Madness Champion, and I think that deserves to be talked about.
00:06:15
Speaker
um And I am the original Velocicoaster tattoo holder, so I feel like that should also... tell you that we're big fans and you should come on our.
00:06:25
Speaker
Yes. Thank you. We need talk about the best coaster in the world. Clearly. I was the first person to say you were a girl with the Velocicoaster tattoo. Yeah, Brian was the fun fact for listening to this podcast.
00:06:41
Speaker
b Brian was the first person to notice me as the girl with the Velocicoaster tattoo. we It would had been like a play on words I put in my story and I'd like never mentioned it again. and were at Fun Spot for Buzz Bars event.
00:06:56
Speaker
And he, it's the first time we ever met. And he said, wait, are you the girl with the Velocicoaster tattoo? Yeah. because that year When you posted it, that kind of went pretty viral in the community. and like oh I am off today. Oh my god.
00:07:09
Speaker
ah she Wow, my first Brian bleep. I actually think what's really nice is that um I think Brian's almost at my number. so No, it's like three to one now.
00:07:24
Speaker
No, he had Did he not just have another one? No? Yeah, just now, but I think he had one other one previous. I censored myself for that one. oh I'm doing it. See, I put all my energy into episode 15 that I am just disaster in episode 14.
00:07:39
Speaker
So I apologize, everybody. I'm off my game tonight. That time warp. Screw that coaster. True.
00:07:50
Speaker
Brian, how's your foot doing? my my think Thankfully, we didn't do this. I think I explicitly said, let's not talk about it for episode 15, because I don't want to jinx myself for ah two weeks two weeks from now, Brian.
00:08:04
Speaker
ah Currently, though, it's actually doing really well. My range of motion has vastly improved. My scabbing's pretty much all done. And I think I'm going to be in a sneaker at the end of this week.
00:08:16
Speaker
And the boot can finally go bye-bye. Heck yeah. Yeah. So I'll still obviously like be limping. I'll still obviously be very sore, but to be a little more mobile and even if I think I was completely healthy and I tried to walk with that boot, it would be awkward.
00:08:34
Speaker
So I'm very, very excited to ditch that. We're definitely in the, this was ah an 18 hole golf course. I think I'm at a hole like 13 or 14. So nice.
00:08:47
Speaker
Almost there. Almost there. Then you can stop using your injury as an excuse. Yeah, what the heck? It's a valid excuse, yeah, as we have this this lovely so this lovely trip planning ah or trip report section that I can't wait to hear about.
00:09:02
Speaker
As I'm on month number three of sitting on this couch. Yeah, I feel a little bad, but at the same time, i don't. Screw you, Alice.
00:09:14
Speaker
Thanks. This is the point of the episode where I talk for like a long time about trip recaps because I've done a lot of trips in the last few weeks.
00:09:27
Speaker
Yeah, few, like three and four weeks. Yeah. Something. I don't know. we've yeah you're insane We've been to a lot of parks this year. A lot of them unplanned.
00:09:38
Speaker
So the first part of this was very planned. We actually, you know, booked flights well in advance and had an itinerary and everything. um So we went to um Northern California for the first time because after hearing some ah rumors about CGA, were like, well, we probably need to get there soon.
00:09:58
Speaker
So BuzzBars planned an event there. We ended up being able to go. Flights worked out very well. Not so much for my sleep schedule. Because when we flew over to San Francisco, san francisco we had a six hour ish layover in, um, Las Vegas, which was shortened because we had delays, but we had things that we wanted to do briefly in Vegas.
00:10:21
Speaker
Um, one of our friends had a local friend in Las Vegas who picked us up from the airport at like 9 PM or no, we only did like midnight. It was late. Um, when took pictures with the Vegas sign, went and saw the speed, the ride remnants.
00:10:35
Speaker
That was really weird to see. Cause they're still sitting there. What? 12 years later. so That's crazy. I don't know. But yeah, she was willing to stop by there and let us check it out. And then we had like a gigantic meal at two in the morning and then went back to the airport for a 6 a.m. flight to San Francisco.
00:10:51
Speaker
um So we went to Discovery Kingdom, CGA and Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. um I'm not going to get too into everything because there's a lot there.
00:11:03
Speaker
Mention every coaster. Every single coaster. Okay, so we started with... No. Well, at least say, like, what what was the favorite? What's your favorite? What's, like, one that disappointed you?
00:11:15
Speaker
So Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, really pretty park. Like, gorgeous. Again, I know people mentioned the layout of it. It was very confusing. But it was gorgeous no matter where we went, which was awesome.
00:11:27
Speaker
Their parking situation was strange. It was, like, tiered parking with solar panels and a long walk to the entrance. Um... trying to think what the standouts were there there was nothing really guess standoutish there I know they have a Joker as their RMC it was it was decent it was very mid-tier they have like a covering like underneath the stall which I love stalls and I love to like stare at the ground as you go through the stall and I looked up there in the stall and it was just like wood planks and I'm like oh okay actually another
00:12:01
Speaker
I actually didn't know that. Yeah, it was it was unexpected, but fun drop. And I love the two-tone paint scheme, even if it was very faded. um Was it Kong?
00:12:13
Speaker
Was there SLC? Yes. Terrible. Terrible. Yeah, no. Not good. Oh, Medusa was really good, too. Love Medusa. Had, like, a fresh paint. Yeah.
00:12:25
Speaker
New paint. It had new paint.
00:12:29
Speaker
should have mentioned this in the paint episode. Did we mention that it had new paint? Well, that and Joker. That actually would have been a good one to mention. He said it would have been good. It would have been, in that episode.
00:12:41
Speaker
Oh, okay. Yeah, Joker was very, very faded purple, which is kind of sad. Because otherwise it would have looked great. Yeah, Medusa was super smooth, looked great. I was really hoping I could do both Medusas in the same week after going to Great Adventure, but the line was too long at Great Adventure.
00:12:56
Speaker
So, didn't get to do that, but... Yeah, but then he would have had to gone gone to Mexico to get all three Medusas. Okay, well, U.S. Medusas. Medusa, agree. It's not Medusa completion.
00:13:06
Speaker
and Okay, well, Medusa floorless. I'm trying to think if there's anything significant. um There's a first aid tent right next to the boomerang. That was kind of hilarious.
00:13:18
Speaker
Anyway. Let's see. CGA. Absolutely loved it. I know some people really crap on that park and i don't get why legitimately. Just call him out, Tom. Just call him out. I remember hearing how much he just does not like CGA and I was going through it like, why?
00:13:45
Speaker
i don't i don't understand the hate, genuinely. um Flight Deck was fantastic. super so Yeah, it was super forceful. Um, Gold Striker was really good.
00:13:59
Speaker
really need to like, i don't even remember half the coasters there right now. Honestly, we got Railblazer. We got, I ended up with a front row on that one. And I always forget how intense those things are. Like, yeah, even in front row, I'm pretty sure it left marks on my arms.
00:14:15
Speaker
from Yeah, they can be a little, they can be crazy. Um, I heard Grizzly's a wooden coaster there. Grizzly certainly exists. Um, I've heard Patriot is a B&M floorless there.
00:14:28
Speaker
yeah Yeah, Patriot, we hit the brakes and I'm like, did we do anything? like It was kind of was boring. Wait, Patriot? Okay. Yeah, Patriot's a floorless. so Okay.
00:14:39
Speaker
I don't even know if I knew that that was there. It's insanely short. that's slow I don't even think it does. It might the most meaningless B&M in the world. yeah It didn't beat my ears in like Firebird did.
00:14:53
Speaker
Firebird? Firebird's just trash. Yeah. um Firebird I got off and would legitimately asked, I'm like, are my ears bleeding? Because it feels like it. Yep. i did not um I did not have that on Patriot.
00:15:05
Speaker
I will give it that. um And then Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk was... The vibes there were awesome. um I hit my 600 milestone on Giant Dipper, which was really exciting.
00:15:19
Speaker
So i got to ride that twice in front and back row, and that thing is...
00:15:24
Speaker
aggressive for what it is. Really good laterals and airtime. Genuinely surprised. Congratulations on your 600th coaster, Allison. Thank you.
00:15:35
Speaker
Thank you. Did I say that with any less enthusiasm? Very an enthusiastic. donll I'll hit 700 in July.
00:15:47
Speaker
ah so i said that in the tone of the it is your birthday from Dwight in the office. Right. Yes, I appreciate the enthusiasm and the congratulations that you give me. Wait, you're hitting 700 July?
00:16:01
Speaker
yeah Oh, you got to get the 700 sign from Taylor. That's the whole story behind that. 100%. It's already on my list. I've already talked to you. Got it. Okay. I think Nate is going to have it in Europe, and then he's going to hand it to me because I should get it like the weekend after we get back from Europe.
00:16:16
Speaker
oh Maybe you can hand it to me next next year probably. um My plan is to hit 700 on Fireball at New York City. So that way I can take a shot of Fireball while taking my milestone. my gosh.
00:16:29
Speaker
That's pretty epic. Oh, that would be cool. And also because I love Fireball. Right, right, right. So a lot of reasons for that, even though I know it's probably a garbage coaster. It's not bad. Sometimes having a garbage coaster as a milestone is so fun.
00:16:42
Speaker
It's going to be more for the photo than anything. Yeah. um So on our way back from California, we had like a 10 hour layover during the day in Las Vegas, and it was my first visit to Las Vegas.
00:16:55
Speaker
Very excited. um We did the Big Apple coaster. It was a coaster. yeah I'm actually intrigued to hear your thoughts on that, because... on on On Big Apple. Yeah, because some people say worst coaster of all time.
00:17:09
Speaker
It's not the worst coaster of all time. Okay, agreed. It's what Premier Trains it has the comfort colors. I was actively trying to not let it click down on me an extra click because I knew it would hurt. And then lo and behold, during the ride, it went down a notch on me and I wasn't paying the rest of the ride.
00:17:28
Speaker
I'm glad I did not pay the full price for it. We were able to get half price tickets. So I did not pay $25 it.
00:17:38
Speaker
And then speaking of expensive, after that, we went to Adventure Dome, where we paid $60 to get in. That's $60, and that's Vegas. I get it, I guess. Yeah. how Wait, is that SpongeBob ride open? Did you get to ride? No, we did that.
00:17:52
Speaker
Oh, yeah. Another, like, $15. It was another $15 top of the admission? It's not. It's it's separate from Adventure Dome. It's located in the same, like, it's located in Circus Circus right near the entrance to Adventure Dome, but it is separate.
00:18:07
Speaker
I did not know that. I thought they advertised it as going to Adventure Dome. it's It's adjacent to Adventure Dome. That's insane. That is wild. Yes, and yes, we did pay the money to ride it, and it was not... and I heard it's good, but it's not like what it should be, right?
00:18:24
Speaker
it's It's kind of akin to Midway Mania, but not as good. ah Oh, that's kind of sad. like To fumble the bag on a SpongeBob coaster, like that's such an easy audience to please. Yeah.
00:18:39
Speaker
I was expecting, like, I went into it not knowing anything about it, just that it was a SpongeBob dark ride. And I was thinking so it would be something kind of like Simpsons at Universal Florida, but better.
00:18:51
Speaker
i was thinking it be more like a kind of visual dark ride kind of thing. Yeah. But it was not. That's really sad. Yeah. That's really sad. What the heck?
00:19:03
Speaker
Right. I know. Oh, my God. So your day in Vegas... My wallet hurts for you. Uh-huh. and I haven't even gotten to the expensive part yet. know. i was going to say. um But Adventure Dome, so yeah, $60 to get in for all-day ride pass.
00:19:20
Speaker
I think we were there for like maybe an hour and a half. However, Canyon Blaster and El Loco are elite. Both of them. I mean, elite seems strong, but I've heard they're very good.
00:19:32
Speaker
Canyon Blaster is probably my favorite Arrow Looper. I was to say, is Canyon Blast your favorite arrow not named X2?
00:19:40
Speaker
Possibly, yeah. Magnum, Tennessee Tornado. I would put i put it up above Tennessee Tornado. There's something about it. It just runs unreasonably fast. Like it's indoors. yeah Yeah, and it gives you so much airtime and fly into the breaks.
00:19:56
Speaker
I don't know. Something about it. I want to say it's one of the more recent arrow loopers. It opened like 93, I want to say. They could open in the 90s, but that could be wrong. And then the El Loco, it doesn't have the nubs on it.
00:20:10
Speaker
It's just a lap bar. Look at that terrain design. um And again, it also just runs stupidly fast. um Just really, really strong airtime.
00:20:21
Speaker
And it's like an extended layout, so there's a little S-bend and like another hang time dive loop thing right at the end. um long enough hang time that there's kicker tires on it and we were sitting there upside down on my first and I'm like, oh look, kicker tires.
00:20:34
Speaker
so So much better than Steelhog. Yes, very much so. um It was really good.

Allison's Thrilling Experiences in Las Vegas and Dallas

00:20:40
Speaker
We enjoyed it. so We rode each one like five or six times, something that. No lines, absolutely. so That's pretty good. Yeah, yeah that' you get your money's worth. Yeah, when you're paying 60 bucks yeah to get into Adventure Dome. like circuit It's not like, I don't know, I feel like Circus Circus at least in the past three or four years Circus Circus has not had a good reputation. Oh, I went... We walked in in 2013. Again, pre-enthusiast days.
00:21:04
Speaker
Although I did ride Big big Apple then. It's my 23rd credit. But no, we walked into Circus Circus and even back then it was just very like trashy compared For a while, there's a couple YouTube videos out there that are literally...
00:21:17
Speaker
like staying in some of the cheapest hotel rooms in Vegas and a lot of it's Circus Circus. Oh yeah, the carpet was gross. Yeah, because they they've been doing so bad for so long. They have like abandoned pieces of their property that they just don't use. So i'm I'm not shocked at all that Adventure Dome has no lines because yeah, it's somewhere people avoid it. That whole area of the strip as you get like further away from like the Bellagio, like towards the Strat.
00:21:43
Speaker
How's that segue? um This is not great. Yeah. It's kind of sketchy area around there. Yeah, we walked so much that day. We used the monorail pass, which was kind of nice, but it was a lot of walking. It was just easier.
00:21:57
Speaker
Yeah. very It's a deceivingly long ah walk to the Strat. Yes. yeah we And speaking of which, we did walk from Circus Circus to the Strat. um So for years now, I'd said whenever I make it to Vegas, I'm going to do the building jump off the Strat.
00:22:15
Speaker
So when we realized that I had a layover in Vegas, I treated it as a birthday present to myself a week after my birthday. And I booked a sky jump off the strat. ah Oh, my God. Yeah, it It was fantastic.
00:22:29
Speaker
Good, good, I loved every second of it. It's always... Sorry, I was to say, it's always terrified me a little bit. Not the actual jump, but the price per second of experience. Well, I was like, I'd do it, but...
00:22:44
Speaker
ah I would not do it. It was worth it to do it at least once. Okay, good. That's kind of how I saw it. I don't know if I would pay that much to do it again, but just say at least being able to say I jumped off a building. Sure, oh yeah, and the pictures are priceless. Oh yeah, I paid for the video package. I got the videos.
00:23:00
Speaker
Good, good, good. um I had no hesitation actually jumping off the platform. Okay. um And then I hit the ground and I started crying and my hands were shaking.
00:23:11
Speaker
happens when the eternal holiday ah Oh my God. i'm in a good way I was just like thrilled that I finally got to do it. Yeah. If you're looking forward to that, like it seems like you have been for so long. yeah It had to be really special to finally get to do it.
00:23:27
Speaker
Yeah. And then Mike was waiting for me at the bottom. He filmed me coming down and he had a giant fat Tuesday's drink with a floater of rum on it ready and waiting for me. Oh my God. Look at that. What a man. Why didn't Mike do it um Mostly money.
00:23:41
Speaker
Okay. You know, it's expensive, but he said. Oh yeah, that's valid. I thought if, I wasn't sure if he was a chicken. no definitely not um He did say he would want to do it in the future. so Okay.
00:23:52
Speaker
Cool, cool. That was a very cool experience. And then took a red-eye flight home, landed at about 5.15, and was at work at 7. Excellent. Epic.
00:24:03
Speaker
And that was just your first trip? Yes, that was my first trip. So, Q, um about a day later, then a day after that, oh, no, actually, let me find the conversation that I recorded, and I'm pretty sure I tweeted this at some point, too.
00:24:15
Speaker
When we were getting out of an Uber in Vegas, me I really should have like planned ahead with this. We're getting out of an Uber in Vegas. um Mike just kind of looks at me. He's like, I had an idea.
00:24:28
Speaker
My response. Oh, no. Are we doing anything next weekend? Oh, no. I have to check flights first. That can't be good. That was word forward, our conversation getting out of the Uber.
00:24:42
Speaker
um The next day he booked flights for us to go to Dallas Friday night, um mostly using flight points. I think we paid like 30 bucks and that was including our friend Matt coming with us.
00:24:55
Speaker
um so yeah we had zero planning and went to dallas for a day um with another layover in vegas mind you we were in vegas that's absurd yeah we went to vegas three times in one week after having never been to vegas um landed in dallas 7 a.m ish something like that don't know didn't really get much sleep it was just inopportune times for sleeping on a plane um first stop went to peppa pig land and rode daddy pig ah Once again, paid $45 to ride one coaster. $40, something like that. don't know.
00:25:29
Speaker
It included an online photo, and the photo was actually really super cute. I can't be too mad at that. Yeah, if this is how you cred run, I can't compete. Like, because just, no. I mean, we we were at the point where we're like, well we got a rental car.
00:25:44
Speaker
We may as well. Because the timing worked out perfectly. It was like, we landed at 7. seven Rental car pickup was at 8. Peppa Pigland opened at 9. Our next stop on the list, Alley Cats for V-Suspender. That opened at 10.
00:25:58
Speaker
And then Six Flags Over Texas opened at 11. Like, it was perfect. just, like, makes sense. And then you left to do Prairie Screamer. And then we left to do Prairie Screamer. Which Jen and I are not happy at Oh, I'm sorry. it was That was certainly experience, but I'll get to that too.
00:26:13
Speaker
ah Mike had never been to Over Texas, so we went through the park as quick as we could. it was swamped that day, so we all got a FastPass thing. FlashPass? That's it.
00:26:24
Speaker
The cheapest one where it was like just a virtual queue. um Got through everything. um I was missing a few creds, so I was able to clean up everything except the kids' coaster that we got denied from twice.
00:26:36
Speaker
We tried. Yeah. Didn't we get to ride the kitty one? The kitty mine train? No, I think we got denied from the one over Texas, but I think we got to ride the one at Frontier City that we weren't supposed to ride. we No, we rode... The kitty one is the one that Mr. Beast rode, right? don't know.
00:26:54
Speaker
Oh. they have the mine train, they have the mini mine train, but then they have Wile E. Coyote. Oh, okay. We did the mini mine train. Yeah, we did it in the mine train. Okay. Wile E. Coyote... Right, we didn' we tried doing that one and we get denied.
00:27:07
Speaker
Yeah, we got to know twice. We tried. We did get to ride the one at Frontier City, which Tom had said he had been denied from. but Well, we had we what we tried a second time and we had a new what we waited for a different op.
00:27:20
Speaker
but That was what we did too. We tried waiting for a shift change and nope, still nothing. Over Texas might be too big of a park. How was Jolly Roger? Yeah, how was Jolly Roger? Listen, of the fact that I texted you all that too. I'm like, Jen, look, it's Jolly Rogers.
00:27:35
Speaker
um Close enough. You guys knew what I meant. Kind of. It was close. We never got to ride it that day. Excellent. um I finally got on Titan. That was my first time getting to ride Titan.
00:27:48
Speaker
Oh, okay. You get the new like paint, too. Yeah, we did. Yeah, new paint scheme looked gorgeous. It was pretty. There were like two sections this track. Literally two pieces that were not painted yet. So we're going through it. I'm like, why is there still orange?
00:28:02
Speaker
Um... Yeah, Titan was really good. we ended the day on Shockwave like four times. Of course. There was no line at Shockwave at the end of the night. Best coaster in the park. Yes, I agree.
00:28:13
Speaker
Although Mr. Freeze, I love Freeze.
00:28:17
Speaker
I love looking at Freeze. Like, Freeze wasn't, like, terrible. Like, I did like it a lot, but watching that coaster load and unload, oh, I could do it all day. It's so good.
00:28:28
Speaker
um we We got stuck. Our car, or our strengths didn't open back in the station, and they almost didn't notice and almost let us go a second time, which would have been fun, but.
00:28:41
Speaker
um yeah yeah no six flags was a good time um and then nail like you said we we left part way through the day to go ride prairie screamer um that thing is huge for one two like right when we're about to get on it they closed it briefly to put water dummies in every other row to add weight to the train because they were worried about it valleying and apparently this is a common occurrence And then they loaded every other row with the water. We got to ride with water dummies.
00:29:16
Speaker
That's actually kind of crazy. is that so
00:29:21
Speaker
That checks out, though. After like seeing where that coaster was located, like that checks out. That is what I'd expect. for market yeah it was It was very strange to watch. yeah like Why are they putting water dummies?
00:29:34
Speaker
Like... They like just didn't even say anything for the longest time, too. And then they finally were like like, a supervisor came over and explained like why they were holding the line.
00:29:44
Speaker
That's crazy. Yeah, and then that was so that was our trip to Texas. No crazy overnight layovers, that one. And then yesterday, we went to Kings Island opening day.
00:29:55
Speaker
I'm full of trips right now. I swear I'll be done talking shortly. um Yeah, we had a group of people come for Kings Island opening day. Wrote a few things in the morning. And then left to go to a brewery's anniversary party that we love. So we went got some drinks there.
00:30:12
Speaker
And then we went and got Korean barbecue. And then we went back to close out the night. Which is just kind of our opening day tradition. It was just fun hanging out with friends. Still love Mystic. I got a good Mystic ride right after it was pouring rain.
00:30:28
Speaker
Oh, that sounds fun. don't know if there's any other like new things right now for Kings Island.
00:30:35
Speaker
And Vertigo is still operating, unfortunately.
00:30:39
Speaker
How many times did you ride? Zero. We did not. and You're all in Vertigo'd out after your challenge. Yeah. um We did Adventure Express.
00:30:50
Speaker
Oh, we rode the new ah Queen City Stunt Coaster. Oh, that's true. New credit. That's exciting. no head yeah Not quite. Not quite.
00:31:01
Speaker
But it was I'm glad they put a little bit of time into that, but I got my one ride for the season, and now I don't have to again. You know why I'm mad about that change? Because that's now a snow coaster? Correct. like For the longest time, there was only Quicksilver Express at Gilroy Gardens, and in Six Flags England, it's like, you know what?
00:31:18
Speaker
We're going to have the second queue. And then Kings Island, just like, nah, we're stealing your thunder. We we have a Q coaster now, too. Yeah, so now I have a Q coaster now. And I beat a lot of other people who were at trying to get a all the coasters.
00:31:31
Speaker
you all the luck You didn't beat yeah and be me. Yeah, that's fine. Quantum at Columbia, baby. Let's go. Oh my gosh. ah But yeah, my friend Nate, who is like dead set on getting a Q coaster this year, because he's going on Quest.
00:31:44
Speaker
He's going on Quicksilver Express next weekend. And I'm like, I got a Q coaster. What a dumb challenge when I kind of like it. Right. That's fun.
00:31:55
Speaker
So that was all of my travel recently. I'm tired. I've had a lot of slit nights on planes recently. And i I'm tired of it.

Jen's Orlando Adventure and Epcot Visit

00:32:05
Speaker
Yeah, that's exhausting.
00:32:07
Speaker
I'm exhausted. And I don't 100%. hundred percent Oh, no, I was to say, I don't know our next trip. No, our next trip is in two weeks. We're going to Cedar Point opening weekend. Oh, as you have to. Yeah. Got to get more on Top Thrill 2 rides, hopefully.
00:32:21
Speaker
Hopefully. We'll see. Yeah. that's the only time to get rides, so. Yeah, that's exactly why we're going back to opening weekend. Yeah, you got to go before anything happens.
00:32:34
Speaker
Yeah, and Okay. I'm done talking for a while. Your turn, Jen. Yeah. I don't really have a crazy amount to report. So I did go. So for any of our listeners who did not know, it was Hawk Vondelay, Hawk Vondelay's birthday and Hawk Vondelay texted us about less than a month ago and said, Hey, I want to ride roller coasters for my birthday. Who wants to go to Orlando the first weekend in April? And within five minutes, we all booked flights. Yeah.
00:33:06
Speaker
This sounds like my life. Yeah. We were like, sure. want to go to Orlando in two weeks? Let's go. We found like $60 flights and we were like, hell yeah. Like, let's go.
00:33:17
Speaker
So, um, we didn't do a crazy amount. We did Busch Gardens Tampa, rode everything there. He needed to get the new credit. We did ride, uh,
00:33:33
Speaker
The drop tower. What's the name of that? I can't remember. in siri Falcon's Fury. We rode Falcon's Fury. I haven't ridden that in a very long time. It's like one of the most daunting drop towers to me.
00:33:47
Speaker
um So we rode that. He had to get Phoenix Rising. um and then I also rode the Serengeti Flyer for the first time.
00:34:00
Speaker
That was really fun. I liked it a lot. It's the screaming playing, right? Yeah, it's like the big the real big one over the safari. Do they still have time? like Like the morning is not intense and the afternoon is intense? No, they stopped doing that. So I didn't know that. Apparently there was a sign that I just misread and we wrote it pretty like, I don't know, 11 a.m.
00:34:22
Speaker
And I'm like... this wasn't that good. People who have been like kind of raving about it. Like, oh, it's one of the tallest. I'm like, I didn't swing that much. And then I come to realize, oh it was on the mild setting. And I'm like, what the heck, man?
00:34:36
Speaker
wilder Yeah. I'm like, oh, great. That's such a fantastic idea. yes i want i don know Yeah, Apparently from what I heard, like the lines were like very unmanageable when they did that.
00:34:50
Speaker
Shocking. BGT lines? Unmanageable? What? I know, crazy. um Yeah, so we did BGT. Then we did try to go. So anyone who doesn't know Nathaniel, Nathaniel... When I... Sokka has a lot to say about Nathaniel.
00:35:11
Speaker
Who doesn't? When I mentioned that this man has brain damage, like, I truly think he might have brain damage. And so he, like... If the coaster falls apart under him, he loves it.
00:35:27
Speaker
Like, that would be his number one coaster. If it just completely fell to pieces under him. um And so all he wanted to do one night was go to Fun Spot and ride Mind Blower.
00:35:42
Speaker
Just marathon Mind Blower. It's like I've never heard anyone and in the history of forever that has ever said they wanted to ride mind blower once let alone marathon it luckily for us it was closed oh he must have been so upset he was really sad ah um like i'm not i'm not surprised at all it was closed i was like thank goodness i don't even want to ride this once
00:36:13
Speaker
And then he tried to convince all of us to, or not all of us, someone to ride the sky coaster with him, which none of us would. So we just watched him ride the sky coaster. Oh, for his birthday, nobody stepped up.
00:36:29
Speaker
Not that I would have, but. That thing is so fun. I would have. We made him, I bought him a Yoohoo. ah and That changes everything.
00:36:39
Speaker
I was like, look, when he got off, I had a Yoohoo for him.
00:36:44
Speaker
And I was like, absolutely not. I'm not riding the Skycoaster.
00:36:51
Speaker
um So he rode the Skycoaster and then we went home. And then we just went Busch Gardens Tampa. um No, i already said that. We went to um Universal. So we actually we actually did the math and like figured it out. And we had four of us in our like direct group.
00:37:11
Speaker
And We thought about maybe doing express passes, but to do express passes for all four of us for one day would have been like $1,300. Jesus.
00:37:26
Speaker
Crazy, right? ah There was a pass holder rate on a room at Portofino that was like $420. And that includes express passes for not one, but two days.
00:37:42
Speaker
For all of us.
00:37:46
Speaker
So instead of paying over $1,300 for one day express passes, we paid for two days of express passes for four did you actually like use the room at all Me and Christina did.
00:38:00
Speaker
And Nathaniel had left that night. Nathaniel and Laurel left that night. Oh, sorry. There were five of us. So five of us, but still we all got express passes with the room.
00:38:12
Speaker
So we stayed in the room. The room was beautiful. um And if you guys don't know this, like Lowe's is a really dog friendly environment. um They do this whole program. They call it Lowe's loves dogs. And they'll give you like a goodie basket and everything.
00:38:27
Speaker
They had a dog And a cat room service menu. Wow. That's kind of cool. Yeah. Like you can order your cat a salmon filet with like rice and stuff or like beef tenderloin for your dog. Crazy. c incredible i I was like, oh my gosh, I will absolutely be spending $15 on a meal for my dog if I come here.
00:38:54
Speaker
And if you have vertically challenged dogs like mine with like her little stubby legs. perfectly show or Yeah, she's vertically challenged. oh um Portofino's windows go all the way down to the floor. So it's a perfect Corgi hotel room.
00:39:10
Speaker
They can look right out the window.
00:39:14
Speaker
And that is, i think. Yeah, that is my trip report. Yeah, ah the only other thing I did was go to Epcot, but we were so tired from the rest of the weekend.
00:39:24
Speaker
We did not do much at Epcot. um I tested a couple of foods for Flower and Garden because I will say this over and over again to anyone who will listen. Flower and Garden has the best food of any Epcot festival, and I will die on that hill. Food and Wideness not deserve the hype when Flower and Garden exists.
00:39:45
Speaker
Um, so I literally went to flower and garden and I snacked. We so we did um living with the land. It's like the only attraction that we did in all of Epcot. And I do just have to talk about like anyone who doesn't know living with the land.
00:40:00
Speaker
Um, with each festival or time of year in Epcot, they do change the overlay. um for that ride. And the overlays are always so fun and cute. Sometimes it's just like special scenes that are put in there. They might put um special plants in a certain area and set things up.
00:40:19
Speaker
For festival, for flowering garden, they did kind of like flowering inspired princess scenes so there was a scene with like a big moana sale um and then like the princess and the frog theme was just very new orleans colored and then they they would put in like little details like maybe a frog um in the setup a cookbook um
00:40:52
Speaker
Yeah, it it's so cute. The Beauty and the Beast one just had like a candlestick with a feather duster up against it. So like Lumiere and Babette. Or no, not Babette. What they?
00:41:05
Speaker
I can't remember her name. Oh, jeez. This is bad. is it Plumet? Plumet, yes. Plumet, but I think she has another name, too. i don't She has two names.
00:41:17
Speaker
But it's that like it's literally a candlestick and the feather duster up against each other. And then to make it even even cuter, like each of the scenes were already so cute, but to make it even cuter, there were different colored Hayden Pascals throughout like all of the scenes.
00:41:36
Speaker
love that. Um, so you anywhere you look, there was there's a ah one tank where they do like, I think they call it aquaculture, um, where it's the fish in the bottom and then the, the, um, plants are growing on top.
00:41:53
Speaker
And like, there was just a Pascal painted white, like hiding on the tank. Um, and they were like sprinkled throughout the ride. So that was super cute.
00:42:04
Speaker
Um, but yeah, other than that, we really didn't do much Epcot. Just snacking and living with the land. Sounds like a good way to do Epcot. It's like, the only thing that would have made it better is Guardian's Ride, but we just did not have the energy to put into.
00:42:23
Speaker
I get that. Yeah, so that was my little trip report. That's all I've had going on.
00:42:33
Speaker
Brian, I know you didn't have a trip, but you did have something fun happen.

Bryant's Surprise Red Sox Game

00:42:37
Speaker
Yes. So a couple weeks ago, um I'm getting out of the shower and this random dude is just sitting on my couch.
00:42:45
Speaker
who just happens to be Alex, who we Alex from who we've had on the podcast already. Apparently he was coordinating with Megan for like ever since my injury that he wanted to do something nice for me. So he actually flew up here and got me tickets to the Red Sox game in their second game of the year at home.
00:43:06
Speaker
um ah It started off, unfortunately, a very rough because we knew it was going to be rainy the whole day. But it was that annoying, like it's not pouring out, but it's still pretty steady.
00:43:20
Speaker
And it was like 40 degrees. It was like the worst weather day. They didn't call the game. So we drive all the way to Boston. It's like an hour and a half from here. We're sitting in the rain, which is not ideal for my foot because I'm still on crutches. I'm still in my boot.
00:43:35
Speaker
And he got these like insane seats, like eight rows from the field right behind home plate. Like he is ridiculous. But it wasn't covered, so we had to I had to essentially crutch around the stadium. One, trying to get out of the rain. Two, trying to find like a sea a comfortable seat.
00:43:52
Speaker
I think I ended up crutching over a mile around Fenway. Wow. It was not fun, no. but Obviously, no fault of Alex's. The game was supposed to start, I want to say, at 4.
00:44:03
Speaker
four And around 6, they decided to finally call the game. Jeez. Because, you know, the Red Sox, they knew what the weather was. They just wanted to get those concession prices.
00:44:16
Speaker
The one thing I hate about that team. They're greedy AF. So, yeah, not a fun day on Saturday. Thankfully, we got redemption because the next the they just made it up Sunday afternoon.
00:44:30
Speaker
We did have to drive back, but it was not rainy. And they won with a game-winning hit in the ninth inning. Nice. Which I had only seen, like, three or four times in my entire life. So, we got redemption.
00:44:42
Speaker
I'm glad. Yeah, that was that was legitimately one of like the nicest things that anyone's ever done for me. So Alex, you are the man. Thank you very much. It was very nice to get out of the house. as As difficult as that Saturday was, Sunday made up for it. Oh, that's incredible, Alex. He is unreal.
00:45:00
Speaker
I remember seeing that video. I guess it was Megan took the video of you just coming out of the bathroom and being like completely shook. I didn't even know she sent that to you. Well, I don't know if she sent it, but I know I saw it.
00:45:11
Speaker
Oh, no idea. I going to say, I did not see this. Megan took the video, so it was her control. I definitely saw it. I don't know. Maybe you sent it. Or maybe it was posted on her Instagram or something.
00:45:22
Speaker
No idea. But yeah. I don't know. But I saw the video and I i laughed a lot at your reaction. Good. Yeah. So yeah, shout out, Alex. Very excited for these. but Hopefully the next time I'm outside doing something, it will not be in a booth.
00:45:39
Speaker
Yeah. I'm already planning some, I want to say a revenge trip towards Allison and Mullet before Europe. I don't think I'm even going to tell her about.
00:45:52
Speaker
Interesting. yeah I'm intrigued. I'll tell Jen. Wow. ah We also changed one thing on our Europe

Europe Trip Update and Wallaby Belgium

00:46:04
Speaker
trip plan.
00:46:04
Speaker
We're not doing Park Asterix anymore. Oh, what are you doing? Which I'm kind of sad about. We are going to Wallaby, Belgium.
00:46:12
Speaker
Just because flight prices worked out better. Yeah, I think we actually might have talked about this. Well, our listeners have not talked about this, but I think we maybe might have mentioned this in next week's episode.
00:46:24
Speaker
Maybe. Oh, did we? I don't even know. I think Mike booked the flight, like, that day. Yeah, he, like, straight up just was like... Hey, I booked flights. And i'm like, oh, okay.
00:46:38
Speaker
Is this before or after the UK? Yes. Both? So we're flying into London and we're doing the Legoland in London and then flying to Brussels and then to Dublin and then back to London.
00:46:51
Speaker
So it's before like the main part of the UK trip. Okay. But it is after landing in London.
00:46:59
Speaker
That's logical, right? Yeah, i'm I'm just trying to figure out dates for no reason. No, no. I think Mike might have already asked you about that. Did he? No, no, he did.
00:47:10
Speaker
Anyway, train designs. Yeah, wait, hold on. I have a transition better than that, Brian, because I already said that I've been thinking about this. I'm jumping right into it. Because we mentioned...
00:47:21
Speaker
Wallaby Belgium. Can we talk about... One, why are we talking about Yoi and what else that's new that opened? Can we talk about Mechalodon or whatever?
00:47:34
Speaker
And the train design? not gonna i' not i haven't looked at this because, you know... It might be favorite. I may not be looking at Wallaby Belgium stuff for whatever reason. you have to go look at it for the sake of this episode. You have to go look at it.
00:47:50
Speaker
It might be the coolest train design that I have ever seen. I love it. but Sorry, I went to our RCDB and my random roller coaster is something called 1066. I have no idea what that is. I'm very intrigued. I think that's the alphabetically, ah numerically first coaster in the world.
00:48:08
Speaker
Oh my god, it's a shark!
00:48:12
Speaker
What is that train design? I'm sorry. I'm just going through the pictures and I see like these signs on the on the station. I like big boats and I cannot lie. Yeah, so it's all like... Also, the theming of the whole area, absolutely insane.
00:48:25
Speaker
don't know much about the Wallaby parks, but I know that I would not have expected that level of theming going into a Wallaby park.
00:48:37
Speaker
30,000 feet? Yeah, it's a record record. Gerslauer airtime coaster. It better have some good airtime. I mean, it's thrill coaster.
00:48:49
Speaker
I know this is posting tomorrow. So anyone listening, was posted yesterday, but quality coasters was there and had some good things to say about it today. um Yeah, that train's awesome. Holy crap. Yeah, so this is how we're transitioning into our train design topic. I could not wait any longer. I've been thinking about this since the moment we decided this topic.
00:49:07
Speaker
Why is this train design so iconic? This is incredible. It looks really cool. I'm excited to see that. Yeah, that would be if I could ever get to Walde, Belgium. That would be pretty exciting.
00:49:21
Speaker
Yeah, it would be. Yeah, no I had no idea this coaster existed and it was brand new. No, it has a launch and two boosts. Yeah. And it apparently opened like two weeks ago.
00:49:33
Speaker
Yeah, so it's April 5th. April 5th, yeah. It's crazy. I have no idea how I haven't seen it on my timeline. No one talking about it. From what I hear, it it seems like it's a pretty good coaster. The train design's incredible. The theming's incredible. I don't know why it's being talked but why it's not being talked about.
00:49:51
Speaker
Wally Belgium in general has some really fun trains. Konda, Tikiwaka. But yeah, we should talk about why we're talking about train designs. Yeah, sorry.

Train Design Discussion and Critiques

00:50:02
Speaker
I couldn't hold it any longer. i needed to get it out.
00:50:06
Speaker
Can I just point out that one of the signs, in addition to the I like big boats one, it says ah the Codfather. I did see the Codfather. That's incredible. Anyway, yeah, train design is one.
00:50:17
Speaker
i've been lot like I've had this one um my deep dive list for a little while is just because there's so much that goes into it. I use my SAT words and I say ah aesthetics and ergonomics both play into these design factors and how they affect the rider experience. Because it's the looks and the comfort are both very important factors in thinking about like train design and like how it's going to ride and how much you enjoy a ride.
00:50:44
Speaker
There's a lot of a lot of things that go into it. And they have to have this, I think coasters, the best ones have a really good balance between aesthetics and ergonomics.
00:50:55
Speaker
I would very much agree with that. Yeah. You know, kind of looking at, like, that's the question that we asked for, like, our listener comments that we'll go through. said, ah what are your favorite coaster train designs in terms of comfort and looks?
00:51:08
Speaker
Which ones are awful maybe in both respects? And then what's maybe one that looks awesome but you won't ride because of comfort? And now and stuff comfort impact how much can that comfort impact your desire to ride a ride, essentially? And I think it has a big impact.
00:51:25
Speaker
Oh, yeah. And especially, I mean, we all have different body types. I think um height plays a lot a big role into... Some people might really like a train because they're short, but they might really hate it because they're tall.
00:51:37
Speaker
Yeah, and Think about RMC, iBox trains. feel that's where that comes feel like we've seen that lot more, especially with, like, Intamins and I think, like, Pantheon. More and more seem to be coming up with a max height limit.
00:51:50
Speaker
Mm-hmm. Um... And like, you know, my, my Steven, my ex is six foot seven and I got him into this hobby and there were a lot of things he just couldn't ride because his legs are too long or there was a max height limit, a little bit of both.
00:52:06
Speaker
He's gotten pulled off for rides for being too tall. Which is, and I like, I know some are like, so I want to say Superman in New England, six, four. like There are some there are that, um, no six flags America. He couldn't get the restraint down at all.
00:52:20
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. because just legs were too long. And it was just very restrictive in terms of accommodating for height. But then others like you know Pantheon or like Infinity Falls at SeaWorld Orlando has a literal like thing that you have to go under. And if your head you're too tall, it won't let you on it.
00:52:37
Speaker
Crazy. So yeah, that that that is definitely, to me, a factor of a good train versus a bad train. If you can be more accommodating towards all body types. Yeah, accessibility on the trains is definitely something that is important.
00:52:55
Speaker
I will say that, you know, ah somebody that is 5'7", you know, life hasn't been fair to me and in a lot of areas, but I like being five seven for roller coasters. It definitely helps with comfort, for sure.
00:53:07
Speaker
yeah but Yeah, nice middle height there. It's great. Like, I'm also 5'7", so... Wait, e actually are we we're all five seven Did we not notice that when we took our picture? hold I guess not.
00:53:22
Speaker
that's wild yeah we're all five seven i guess all right well we all have very similar experiences in terms of height about yeah except i i do i do think i'm alone and that most of my body is legs so i do sometimes have issues with trains and how comfortable they are like the one that comes to mind specifically is like icebreaker pretty uncomfortable for me because my legs are so long Well, do we want to start with a negative? Because I think we also also share ah negative towards... I mean, a lot of people share a negative.
00:53:56
Speaker
We did not start with a negative. I just went crazy about... True. True. Good point. Now that we're getting into the nitty-gritty of it... I can't talk. Oh, God. We're fine. Leave it in. Leave it in. We don't have to edit that. I wasn't planning to. The nitty-gritty of it all.
00:54:13
Speaker
We can talk about whatever. Whatever works best. We all think premier trains are awful. Yes. I think, yeah. They're, the dance that you have to do to get in and out of those things is, is beyond frustrating.
00:54:27
Speaker
Definitely icebreaker. The one that comes up, uh, Tempesto, any of the skyrocket twos. Yeah. Especially when you add colors into it as well. ah worse um feels like a straight jacket.
00:54:39
Speaker
The Sky Rockets that don't have the comfort collars and then like Icebreaker after they remove the comfort collars, they still suck, but huge difference. Yeah.
00:54:51
Speaker
They make, like, as an experienced enthusiast, I still feel like an idiot. Like, why can't I easily get out of this train? but ah so I don't know how many premieres I ride. I'm like, whats what's the method of getting out of this thing?
00:55:07
Speaker
Yeah, and it also, like, has to mess with capacity of that ride. Oh, absolutely. No matter what you say your capacity should be, if it takes me two minutes to get into the train, like... No.
00:55:20
Speaker
So another one that I have issues with, similar like in a similar way, it's not a premiere, but Adventure Express, I have so much trouble with for some reason. and And I love Adventure Express.
00:55:32
Speaker
That's probably going to be my most ridden ride at King's Island this year. Is that one a standard, like, aero mine train train? but Yeah. I have more issues with that one than any other mine train. I do find the mine trains to be...
00:55:46
Speaker
very difficult to get in and out of the air of mine trains. Um, especially as adults, because maybe like they were designed for the little ones a little more than us, but even though that the whole family can ride,
00:56:00
Speaker
Yeah. Some are definitely worse than other, like Cedar Creek Mine Ride is one I think about, like and the one at Hershey Park. I can never remember its name. Trailblazer? Trailblazer.
00:56:11
Speaker
Yeah. I find those two to be really bad as well, but not only just getting in, but also once you get the restraint down, there's like nowhere for me to put my legs.
00:56:22
Speaker
The restraint is so... like At that point, I might as well not have a restraint because of where it sits on my legs. Yeah.
00:56:33
Speaker
Well, we have examples here of good, bad, and maybe a little bit of both. So as we're... Let's stick on the bad. i can't i can't speak to this yet, but we have a shout-out here for Viking at Energylandia. Because apparently there's some over-the-shoulder restraints, and this is, I believe, a wild mouse, correct? Yes, it is a spinning wild mouse with over-the-shoulders. And it's not even like...
00:56:57
Speaker
you know, like two and two, like backto back to back or facing each other. It's four across. So almost imagine like wild mouse at Cedar point, but with over the shoulders and it's not smooth by any means.
00:57:10
Speaker
And it's just atrocious.
00:57:13
Speaker
Also, I didn't put it on here. Shout out to the ah SLC over the shoulders that absolutely suck. ah Oh yeah. Just like Kong that I rode very recently.
00:57:26
Speaker
where just my my method is to just hold my head against one side of it and brace as hard as I can so my head doesn't move. oh Oh. No, you gotta do the meal flight of fear, physically supporting my head with hands over the restraints.
00:57:43
Speaker
I feel like I haven't been on a truly bad SLC in a while, because the last two I've ridden are the one at New England, which is pretty good, and then Great Northeaster is, like, actually a legitimate great coaster. Yeah, that So the next one with... ah I've heard Condor at Wallaby Holland is not too good.
00:57:59
Speaker
I heard it's maybe the worst coaster in the world. I wouldn't put it as the worst coaster in the world, but it was up there. and Okay. If I ever got there, you know. If you do. Maybe. I'm trying to think what other ones I'm not a huge... i have my one that just like. Yeah, this is a hot take, kind of.
00:58:19
Speaker
i I don't care. Well, I mean, I do care, because um this is nothing against the guys of Gravity Group who I'm friends with. a good chunk of those guys because they're in Cincinnati. um I hate Timberliners.
00:58:32
Speaker
Especially like the mini ones like Kentucky Flyer. I was going to say those the best ones for them. Oh my God. pinches my legs so bad. And like, I really noticed it on Hades.
00:58:44
Speaker
Like people. Oh yeah, that's it. I hate on Hades. That's for sure. But like, it just pinches my thighs in an awkward way. And then especially on Hades, it pinched my thigh and then vibrated it the entire time.
00:58:57
Speaker
i want to love hades i love the layout but god those train i can't do timberliners they they are awkward for me they hurt my hips i feel like i'm go fall out and i don't i don't like them they are some of the easiest to like let down though i do like that it's just little i mean super easy like in terms of accessibility and like maneuverability in them just not a comfort thing for me
00:59:21
Speaker
Um, this is going to be potentially a really dumb question. And I'm very well aware, but I'm blanking on the answer.
00:59:34
Speaker
To maybe give you a dumb answer. No, okay. Never mind. I found the answer. um man I want another question, though. yeah The question was that I remember that a wooden manufacturer made the original RMC trains.
00:59:46
Speaker
um Like, they're not RMC trains. They're a wooden manufacturer. And I couldn't remember if it was Philadelphia Toboggan Company or Gravity Group.
00:59:57
Speaker
thought it Gerstlauer. Wasn't that the original RMC trains? yeah The trains were manufactured by Philadelphia Toboggan Company. um oh wait, this is the Texas Giant. Okay, so is it Gerstlauer?
01:00:10
Speaker
well, I was wrong. I thought it was a wooden coaster so manufacturer. actually mentioned this on my good list. So, yeah, was it New Texas Giant and Iron Rattler? Both have the Gerstlauer trains, which are, in my opinion, so much better.
01:00:27
Speaker
yeah comfort um however new texas giant having just ridden it very recently i forgot it has like the giant like i call this i call them the sneeze guards on the side yeah the panels yeah in in their defense though that's no that is not the train design's fault like you could tell like i this is why like one of my favorite things about riding that rmc Like, I feel like it's a really, really good way to see, like, are like where RMC is coming from and how much they've grown in such little time.

RMC Train Evolution and Reflections

01:00:59
Speaker
Because the fact that the Reach envelope was so questionable that they had to physically block you from removing your hands from the sides of the vehicle. And now, like, they're doing things like Wildcat's Revenge and...
01:01:17
Speaker
um iron guazi like it's just such like that design that like plexiglass kills me every single time i hate it but whole time it annoyed me you can't you have no freedom like it's very constricting but i do love it in the aspect of seeing like this was their first project these are things that they learned from Yeah, I don't know. It's such like a weird thing to think about. but And like this is part of why I have Iron Rattler so high on my list like overall. like
01:01:50
Speaker
I know a lot of people have things to say about the layout, but those trains are so comfortable. It doesn't have those panels on the side. yeah The train just looks cool. It's a good and mix, and I really wish they kind would have kept going with that because I'm not the biggest RMC fan with the newer trains.
01:02:07
Speaker
Yeah, I like the... The second generation trains, but I don't like that shin. I don't like the shin um piece on the bottom because.
01:02:19
Speaker
Again, with like the make of my legs, my legs hit it pretty hard, so I end up pretty bruised on my shins. Um... And for someone who's five, seven, I shouldn't be having that issue. Yeah.
01:02:32
Speaker
I gonna say, maybe I just have the right proportions. I love the newer RMC trains. They'd always just fit perfectly. I never hit my leg on the shin guard. Always the right amount of airtime, comfortable.
01:02:45
Speaker
and It's a thigh issue for me. I guess I have more meat on my thighs than I probably should, but that's beside the point. I get some meaty thighs myself. I don't know. It always just pinches my thighs in a not great way. and i always have to like When I go shopping for shorts that I want to wear to theme parks, I have to think of things that go a little bit past where the restraint will hit me. Otherwise it will pinch me very badly.
01:03:09
Speaker
Yeah. So I have to make sure in order to comfortably fit my legs, I have to give myself room in the restraint, which like is not a good, like I do not recommend, I do not and be condone, but if I get like, if I get stapled down in that train, it's not the restraint at the top that's uncomfortable for me.
01:03:30
Speaker
The shin guards are just so like, That part gets me. The Shingards ruin my ride sometimes.
01:03:45
Speaker
Yeah, RMC trains are very polarizing. We'll put it out there. It is so interesting talking about the trains though. like thinking about Just thinking about RMCs and the trains. Thinking about the three different types of designs on the RMCs.
01:04:01
Speaker
ah The Gertzlauer trains... They're all themed so well. So let's like, we could just start there. The theming for all three versions are incredible. But
01:04:15
Speaker
but yeah, I love the Gertzlauers and the second generation train, but I do not like the first generation RMC trains at all.
01:04:26
Speaker
thinking in terms of like RMC, like actual train design in terms of good ones. Yeah. Hi, Ahsoka. um I love Untamed in terms of the trains.
01:04:36
Speaker
Like the whole like station is a vibe, but there's like reflective glass or something all along the sides of it. and don't even know like the actual what it's supposed to be, but it looks so pretty. And that's one that I just, I think of a lot in terms of prettiness.
01:04:53
Speaker
or for RMC trains. Yeah, that one's... don't know if that counts as a spoiler. i but But speaking of RMC trains, I'm just kind of curious. What do y'all think about Wildcats for being zero car?
01:05:06
Speaker
I love it. I think it's amazing. It's so good. it's It's not in my taste, but I can appreciate how much effort went into it and how beautiful it is. Oh, yeah.
01:05:18
Speaker
His face looks a little funny. feel I mean, if you really zoom in on him. Yeah, I think that, yeah, it's not my taste. Like, I much prefer the Iron Gwazi ones or the Iron Rattler ones.
01:05:31
Speaker
Mm-hmm. Those are great, too, for sure. Yeah, those are so good. Like, I don't know. Like, I feel like they're too realistic for, like, my theme park brain to, like, I don't know.
01:05:44
Speaker
I get that. I agree. Yeah, but I think they're they're beautifully done. Mm-hmm.
01:05:52
Speaker
Yeah. but I also have names for all of the trains. If you guys didn't know. Okay. You got to say something. I'm not shocked at all by this. um Okay. So the black cat is Roscoe. It's named after a Laurel's cat. And then the white cat, the silver one is Mitzi, named after my friend Christina's cat.
01:06:09
Speaker
And then the third one is Smokey, who is named after my old cat. So the gray one. That's adorable. Yeah. So... uh you gotta remember guys roscoe mitzi or smoky those are the three names i have a really random aside that's not terribly related to any of this but we were talking earlier about if we get another cat and if we get an orange cat we might name it tally Yes. No way.
01:06:36
Speaker
Oh my god. Tally, like, based off of Talon? Yes, because any- No way! All named after being named Inverts. I really want to get, like, a white cat or, like, a cat with a lot of white and name it Alpy.
01:06:47
Speaker
and But yeah, we did say if we got an orange one, we would name it Tally. Oh my gosh, and if you get a white cat that has blue eyes, like, finding a white cat with blue eyes is, like, pretty- If you get an all-white cat that's not totally out of the picture, a white cat with blue eyes named Alpy would be- That would be like the most perfect cat in existence. Yes.
01:07:06
Speaker
fully That was a fully written aside. I know. But i just we talked about that earlier today. So. Yeah. you know Thanks for listening to our sidebar, guys. We love cats. a lot of related.
01:07:17
Speaker
It's talking about cats and coasters. and Anyway. Yeah, so I think that we've covered a good amount of the bad. unless oh hold on. One more bad, I think, for sure.
01:07:30
Speaker
um Both design and actual comfort of the vehicle, I gotta give it to Skyrush. It makes this list. I haven't been on the new Skyrush restraints yet.
01:07:42
Speaker
I actually prefer the old ones. I do not the new ones. I've only gotten one ride with the new ones. But I love this i love like the front of the train of Skyrush. It makes me happy.
01:07:54
Speaker
So, for me, it just looks like very basic roller coaster. don't know. I like it. yeah i never i never hated the I mean, it it wasn't comfortable. oh I never hated the old ones.
01:08:05
Speaker
Yeah, I do not like my the new ones at all. um They're a lot more cushioned. However, because of because of how intense that ride is, it's not the type of... like it the More cushioning did absolutely nothing.
01:08:22
Speaker
It like it really didn't. It just the only thing that I feel like the more cushioning did was restrict me more in my upper half of my body. So now when I when my body is forcefully thrown in ways that probably it shouldn't be on a roller coaster. Now I'm being thrown into a really bulky restraint where before because it was like low profile.
01:08:45
Speaker
Like, my body could move around more and I wasn't being thrown into the padding of the restraint. But it didn't actually, like, because of the intensity of that ride, it i think it does absolutely nothing for the whole thigh crushing thing. Like, my thighs are still in just as much pain. i lose, like, I lose all feeling in my legs by the end of that ride. Like, that did not change.
01:09:10
Speaker
So, I don't like the new restraints at all. don't know. I can see, like... It's the new restraints are more comfortable for me.
01:09:21
Speaker
Like the the older restraints sat lower on your thigh, which is, and then, you know, the airtime with the kink on the drop, I felt like I was going to get thrown out legitimately, but it was pretty bad by the time you hit the brakes and the new ones are more comfortable, but I think it was at the expense of that airtime on the hill.
01:09:39
Speaker
Yeah. but i don't Yeah. So yeah. I don't know, maybe it's the proportion of my thighs, but I find the new ones just as uncomfortable. I find it more comfortable.
01:09:49
Speaker
Yeah, there I still, every time I wrote it last last year, by the time I got to the end, I still pins and needles in my legs. Couldn't. Because it was just so tight. I'm kind of scrolling through our comments if there's any other specifically ones that people absolutely hate.
01:10:07
Speaker
Yeah. I think the other one that I feel like people talk about a lot, and it's just a basic Intamin train with, like, no real design, which is kind of my complaint about Skyrush 2. Like, it's just a very basic Intamin out-of-the-box train.
01:10:22
Speaker
um Superman at New England. Between restraints and just an out-of-the-box train. Doesn't really do much. If those trains were, like, Millennium Force trains...
01:10:35
Speaker
that ride would be so much higher on my list. Top 10. Yeah, I agree. That's what I've always said. Yeah. And, um, I mean, I think I've, I've given my Superman restraint rant at some point I have to have, right?
01:10:45
Speaker
Probably. but sha And unfortunately it's never going to change. There is a train design that I put in the bit of both category. Um, Steven mentioned it for least favorite for comfort. And I'm curious what your thoughts are on the B and M vests, because I am,
01:11:06
Speaker
I like them for one type of ride. I don't like them for another. And I'll say I don't mind them on inverts. Like on Banshee, I actually like the vest. For dives, give me the old ones.
01:11:19
Speaker
I think the vests take away from some of the airtime on the dives. But inverts, usually there isn't an airtime, so it doesn't take away and it's more comfortable. Less headbanging. Yeah. As long as there's a little bit of give in them, I'm okay with them.
01:11:35
Speaker
Yeah, for me, i really think it just depends on the ride itself. um I don't like them on Iron Menace. I think that that one would really benefit from the over the the original over-the-shoulder restraints.
01:11:53
Speaker
um But i don't mind it on Valraven. But again, I think it's because i feel like Valraven has a little bit more give to the restraint, if I remember correctly.
01:12:05
Speaker
But I do love them on Banshee. I will stand by that too. i I agree with you. I don't think it takes away from the ride at all. I think they are the perfect restraint option for an invert.
01:12:18
Speaker
And you can see everything, which is like... On what other invert can you see what's going on around you? You just can't.
01:12:29
Speaker
It's so nice to be able to see things. Imagine being able to see everything around you on a ride like Mantu. That is true. Like that ride is themed so well. yeah Or Black Mamba.
01:12:43
Speaker
Or Alpengeist. Like those three huge ones that come to mind that have such good theming, like close elements. And they would benefit so much from having that peripheral vision that you don't have.
01:12:59
Speaker
That's a very good point. That's my favorite thing about Banshee. I loved being able to see. i never even thought about it. That's very, very good point. I would give up the regular over the shoulders to for the ability to see everything around me a million times over.
01:13:16
Speaker
Then on the dives, when you get that space between your shoulders and the actual restraints, especially in the back on those drops like Griffin, Sheikra. So good. Yeah. So good. Yep, exactly.
01:13:29
Speaker
Yeah, I do think... Yeah, I do want' see where you're seeing... Like, what you're saying there. Having the space to fly a little bit. And speaking of being an M for good... but We're jumping them all over here.
01:13:41
Speaker
Okay. The clamshells just might be... The most iconic great restraint ever. Yeah. That's just... They are just a... there I don't think there's anything bad to say about them. They're just a fantastic design. Yeah, no.
01:13:57
Speaker
They're best when you don't have to wear a seatbelt with them. Oh, yeah. Yeah. I want to say most don't have a seatbelt, right? I'm trying to think. Diamondback have a seatbelt, I think.
01:14:08
Speaker
Yeah, Diamondback and Ryan both do. Intimidator. or whatever. The Thunderstrike or whatever it's freaking called. No. Fury? Does Fury have him?
01:14:19
Speaker
I don't believe so. I don't think Fury has them. um I think Nitro might. I don't think Nitro has seatbelts. No? I feel like I remembered last time I was on it. So well researched here.
01:14:33
Speaker
I don't remember. But yeah, i I agree. Definitely without the seatbelts. But I also, like, I really love the design of those trains where you sit into the seat. Like, those seats the seats being so deep yeah I don't know why it's so comfortable, but I, that might be my favorite roller coaster to like physically get into. Like the amount of excitement that I get, like when you have to like jump up and you just like dip all the way into that seat. Like, I don't know why. It just gives me like, it gives me like a rush that I love. It makes me so happy. i know. I agree with you there.
01:15:15
Speaker
Yeah, I know what you mean.
01:15:18
Speaker
It's weird way to like get excited for ride, but I see it. Also, we're talking about restraints here. And as we're talking about clamshells, this is where I'm always going to give one to Candy because Candy train designs. I love them.
01:15:35
Speaker
They're a little tacky. Oh, like the Reese's and the Hershey. no, they're good. I like, I don't know which ones I like. I feel like I don't like all of them.
01:15:47
Speaker
I'm trying to think what they are. they The orange one, there's the red one, and then... There's Twizzlers, Reese's, and... Maybe Kisses? Kisses is the one I'm... Okay, that's true.
01:15:58
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah, I think Twizzlers I'm not a huge fan of, like, when it's physically on the track. I would agree, yeah. It's not my favorite. Reese's is my favorite. Yeah, Reese's looks oh good on that ride. it just matches the... It's the peanut butter and the and the chocolate, literally.
01:16:15
Speaker
Yeah, this is like matches the track. So that one also looks good. But i like the Reese's like pops. Oh, yeah. It's very good design. Of course, we got a shout out Modern Intamin's Velocicoaster.
01:16:28
Speaker
Yes. Yeah. bill comes that That is the perfect one that I think combines your ergonomics plus what was the other word you used? Aesthetics? Aesthetics and ergonomics.
01:16:40
Speaker
yeah Yeah. I think Intamin's... Go ahead. Like, Velocicoaster trains literally have everything good about a train design, I think, in terms of like comfort, efficiency for like checking the ride.
01:16:56
Speaker
um It's got the lights when they work properly, like the lights on the seats. um And just it's it's gorgeous, looks sleek.
01:17:09
Speaker
This is why Velocicoaster is all of our favorite coaster. Yeah. It just is the total package and everything it does. um I really just think Intamin steals the show um as being like on a different level when it comes to train design because they take all of that into consideration. i feel like like we're talking about B&M and we're talking about Great Restraints.
01:17:34
Speaker
But we're not really talking about any theming of the ride vehicles. And even when we do about Hershey, like really, they look good and they're fun. But really, they just threw stickers on the train of specific colors where the detail that we get out of Intamin train and RMC does it really well as well.
01:17:52
Speaker
But those two manufacturers, I feel like in the theming and aesthetics department, just completely blow away. And if Gertzlauer continues like they do with this...
01:18:03
Speaker
Mecladon? I don't know. Mecladon. Mecladon? Oh, that's what I thought it was. And the A is throwing me off. Okay. Mecladon? Like, that makes a huge difference. i I would be so much more excited to ride a ride That has that level of theming.
01:18:23
Speaker
There's one other contender, I think, in terms of companies that are focusing on theming. And that's Mach. Oh, Mach is doing an amazing job. Like, start us racers. Voltron. I know we love our Voltron.
01:18:34
Speaker
Ride to Happiness is gorgeous.

Mach and Epic Park Insights

01:18:37
Speaker
Yeah. I think they do a really... So, I think they do a really good job on their, like, two-seat trains. I think...
01:18:48
Speaker
For me, the four-seat trains, they do a really good good job at making them blend into whatever the environment of the ride is, which still is a huge like it's a huge thing and it's a big plus.
01:19:00
Speaker
um But I think that they're, like, on that train design, like on the Voltron train, I feel like they're a little more limited.
01:19:09
Speaker
i don't know why but they all look the same. They just maybe have a different... um what's the word um like a poster on the seat or it's not much variation between the trains yeah like the train is pretty similar but there are two-seaters like the ride to happiness um time traveler all of those like my god yeah those are so beautifully themed those free spin the 40 extreme spinners are just unreal yeah and startups great start too
01:19:42
Speaker
I wouldn't know. ah I'm actively trying to avoid spoilers right now. Oh, I am going so hard. like ah Just if anyone listening is from Orlando or has been to Orlando, first off, shout out if you've posted a picture of the portal, the entrance portal, because that gives me a warning that I now need to mute you for the next few months.
01:20:02
Speaker
No offense. but Or at least 24-hour period. Yeah. Yeah, no, I am... ah
01:20:10
Speaker
I'm going hard on trying not to spoil anything for Epic. It's going to fail because actually it might not because I feel like when the park actually opens, the people that I know will be going less frequently because you know, once it's, there's no season passes yet, so there won't be regular visitors yet.
01:20:30
Speaker
um Yeah, no, don't spoil Epic for me. Yeah. I've seen pictures, but I'm already seen ah shout out Caitlin. I started talking about Epic and I'm like, well, I'm not talking about that.
01:20:43
Speaker
four Oh my gosh. i sorry guys. This is this one's not super going to pertain to you guys as a spoiler. um But the next like let's just say minute if you're ah um if you you're disabled at all need a disabled vehicle or a service animal. This is a little bit of a train design spoiler for Epic.
01:21:05
Speaker
Um, but I have to give like the biggest shout out. I feel like most parks that you go to where you have a handicap accessible, um, vehicle, they just make it a plane vehicle.
01:21:18
Speaker
Or they might paint it the color of whatever's going on, but whatever the Yoshi ride at Epic, they and instead of it being a Yoshi, they make it an egg with Yoshi riding with you.
01:21:31
Speaker
Yoshi is in the vehicle with you, looking over the side. And it's just like such a simple s thing that is so overlooked. So sorry, that is their one spoiler. But you guys probably wouldn't even really see that car.
01:21:46
Speaker
So I feel like that spoiler doesn't really. i mean, I've definitely been on Yoshi. ah Oh, yeah. didn't notice that, though, at all, though. Yeah, because there's only one or two, I think, accessible vehicles on the whole entire ride. So the odds of a an everyday guest seeing that vehicle and noticing that vehicle is very, very, very slim.
01:22:06
Speaker
But if you see that vehicle, it's literally an egg. and And not even just he's looking over the side and riding with you. His whole body is in the vehicle. Like, they did that amount of detail to...
01:22:18

let that person in the car fully feel like they're riding with Yoshi which I think is just a step that is so beyond what they had to do and it just makes me really happy it's a very inclusive thing that's awesome though I really for sure i love it
01:22:40
Speaker
so I think we should get into we we once again got a lot of good feedback for this topic thank you guys so much let's just start off Alex, i I gave you my praises earlier. um I'm about to probably do the opposite right now.
01:22:55
Speaker
I'm genuinely curious. He wrote us quite literally like an essay about this topic. 454 words. 454 words.
01:23:08
Speaker
and and ah And I'll just be honest. In my current state, I usually never say this because I usually attribute it to like lazy, you know, late Gen Z, early Gen Alpha people.
01:23:22
Speaker
I ain't reading all that. Yeah, we are.
01:23:29
Speaker
Did you skim through it at all, Allison? Oh, no, I just copy and paste it into the notes. Oh, no. that Okay, let's see if we can get some bullet points in here. I'll take one for the team. i saw he mentioned I did see that he said my wife is cooler than me because she rode Superman with T-bars.
01:23:47
Speaker
She is. No, we love her. Yeah. Megan's the best. We'll have to get her on sometime. Yeah. She's the only significant other of us to not be on yet. So true.
01:24:00
Speaker
Yeah. Let's see. I see him talking trash about outlaw run yet. You're wrong. Um,
01:24:08
Speaker
He says, boss's Gertzlauer trains have zero padding for your back and booty, and the entire soul feels every single bump of the poorly maintained track. So, that's a good one, a Gertzlauer train. Those are very interesting trains.
01:24:25
Speaker
Yep. Mock self-locking lap bars. Sure. Yep. B&M clamshell. Um...
01:24:34
Speaker
Intamin T-Bar, great on Intamin Steel. That's when he mentioned Superman. Modern Intamin. Yep. We also have our first, I think this is the first um first of the episode where we talk about Buzz Bars.
01:24:46
Speaker
He did mention you That's true. Yes. Especially, shout out Phoenix. Makes that ride. If they ever move him on Phoenix, Phoenix immediately becomes just a very mid wooden coaster.
01:24:58
Speaker
Yeah. If even worse than mid. um He mentioned Millennium Flyer trains. big Big, comfy couches. Anytime I come across a GCI that has the couches instead of like the molded plastic, I'm so happy.

Listener Feedback and Community Engagement

01:25:11
Speaker
agree with that. oh Speaking of couches, real quick, Coney Island Cyclone, literally a couch. Oh, yeah. yeah I was also thinking... um Jackrabbit at Kennywood is also like a very padded couch. It needs to be.
01:25:27
Speaker
That thing's so bizarre. It's such a good coaster. um he also mentioned the new B&M lap bars on Penguin Trek and Phoenix Rising. I had that on my list because that is, i know it's a family coaster, but anybody who has any kind of thighs will not be comfortable on that.
01:25:46
Speaker
Yeah. Right into the top of my thighs. Yeah. Yeah, i I agree. Those were not the most comfortable for me either. right. I tapped out on Alex.
01:25:58
Speaker
I love you, buddy. but
01:26:02
Speaker
He does mention, though, did talk about Mach and how well Mach does with the train designs and things. The self-locking lap bar, he does mention that. And I do also, I think that that adds a different element to the experience that
01:26:17
Speaker
It's just very cool. Like walking up like, oh, I'm actually I can't do this because it would spoil stuff for Brian. But me. Yeah, I just really like them.
01:26:30
Speaker
I feel like they add in it like almost like an intensity. That's very cool.
01:26:39
Speaker
I leave in two months. Yeah, and then we'll talk about it. Yeah. Let's see. I'm kind of scrolling through some of the comments. Um, Brambo agreed with Velocicoaster. Beautiful on-train lighting setup. Restraint design is key in designing a good ride and Intamin nailed it with their latest seats.
01:26:56
Speaker
Finally, Alpengeist has the best invert trains. I finally got to ride it. I love the skis on it. The skis are so cute. The skis are really i do have to bring up ah Brianna's comment. She's been a huge supporter of my channel from the very beginning.
01:27:10
Speaker
ah She says, not a question. I just said, this is funny. Not a question. Call me goofy, but the barnstormer trains are pretty cool. I agree. so but i love it on there yeah yeah um cipron said uh good gravy yeah needs to be mentioned here if it hasn't come up already oh cute i forgot about that those are those are up there as one of my favorite train designs as well it's just so fun and it fits the theming so well
01:27:41
Speaker
Yeah, they didn't have to go as hard as they did with those trains. For real, though. I know, for a kiddie coaster, like, and for, like, that is like a kiddie coaster, kiddie coaster. They did so good.
01:27:52
Speaker
I love them. He also mentioned the Flying Dutchman trains, and which, uh... Yeah. Those are not good for anybody. Shout out, Sarah. She refers it to getting a mammogram.
01:28:06
Speaker
Which I, of course, wouldn't know anything about. Yeah, I just... That was something... Oddly, relatable point. um When I was on... I think it was Patriot.
01:28:18
Speaker
If you have a large chest... Sorry, Brian. I'm five years old. I'm sorry.
01:28:28
Speaker
If you have anything... if you are female and you have any kind of chest... Those B&M restraints. Boobs. We can say it. Boobs. Okay.
01:28:39
Speaker
But those B&M restraints, like the invert restraints or whatever over the shoulders, are not ideal. Like, there's food in there. that was so That was one thing I noticed when I was on Patriot.
01:28:51
Speaker
Next one. Yeah. i I'm sure you have everything to worry about.
01:28:59
Speaker
um A lot of mentions of Terran. Shockingly, I have not mentioned Terran yet. Terran trains are gorgeous. I love them.
01:29:06
Speaker
They're so pretty. Yeah. Or another one, just like Intamin Killing It and just like Velocicoaster, like theming, comfort, like everything about them. They just have a little package.
01:29:18
Speaker
Speaking of private parts, the B&M stand-ups, the old ones, not great for us. oh yeah not Not good. Especially if you don't know how to maneuver those and like, you know, you hear those kids that are like jumping up and down and then they sell them and you're like, oh God.
01:29:32
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah.
01:29:35
Speaker
um Shout out to Gina, our former guest that we had on recently. a She would know a thing or two about favorite train designs because she focuses so much on her art. Favorite train designs are Iron Gwazi, Konda, and Cheetah Hunt.
01:29:48
Speaker
And I think those show up really well in her art. um I know we've particularly talked about the Cheetah Hunt one. Cheetah Hunt's underrated. the The train, not the ride.
01:29:58
Speaker
And then her two-tati strawling, which I know we looked at. Mm-hmm. that train is one that like comes to mind when I want to talk about train design, even though i haven't seen it in person.
01:30:11
Speaker
And then she said, Moxie, it's up top. I want to make one into a desk chair.
01:30:17
Speaker
but We should shout out a storm runner, Sam. Uh, he mentioned, this is actually a good one. He mentioned, I wouldn't have thought of, um, no. how Well, yeah, he does say storm runner trains look so sleek and elegant for some reason. Yeah.
01:30:29
Speaker
Don't know why he would say that. ah But no, Hollywood Rip Ride Rocket, the way they light up, it actually, yeah, that honestly, it makes that whole park like, like it really, you know, adds to that vibe.
01:30:41
Speaker
Not even just the park, but City Walk too. Like that section when you're looking at Hard Rock and you see those lights just go by so quick. Yeah.
01:30:52
Speaker
I hope whatever replaces it, they keep that. Yeah, there's, that's definitely one of the things that I can say positive about that ride. The lights are very cool.
01:31:03
Speaker
Any kind of like lights on the trains are awesome. like um like The new Flash, a great adventure, looks stunning. I saw that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, the lights are I'll have to see the last coaster when they're working.
01:31:18
Speaker
Yeah. those are i mean Like I said, they're cool they're working.
01:31:23
Speaker
Steven said, Alpenfury looks dope, but I won't be able to fit. Yeah. oh I feel bad about that again. Yeah, Alpenfury, like, supposedly they've made modifications to these trains and given a little more room in them and, like, taken out some, a little bit of the restrictive things.
01:31:39
Speaker
I'll be curious how much better that makes it.
01:31:44
Speaker
Yeah, I feel like they have to do something because they they can't be accessible to a lot of people.
01:31:53
Speaker
Liam, another Intamin. Is it Intamin? don't even remember. Taiga? Yes, definitely Intamin. He looks like Mok. That's right. um He said best train for looks and comfort is Taiga, and I know his love of Taiga.
01:32:06
Speaker
Yes. your mind favorite one right He reminds me regularly of that one. Yeah, that one falls in with Velocicoaster and Terran. like yeah That's what he's on Intamin. Beautiful looking train. I'm very excited for that.
01:32:20
Speaker
Oh, I love it. I have one here, but it's just like a statement, but of one that we haven't really talked about, but it's very, very good call out. um Sometimes parks have to revamp the style of the train for better performance on the ride itself, a.k.a. Lightning Rod, Top Thrill 2, Skyrush Modification, and so on.
01:32:40
Speaker
It was weird seeing Lightning Rod without the Zero Car for a while. Oh, I don't even know if I saw that. don't think I did either. Nope. Oh yeah, it ran without the Zero Car. and Oh, interesting. It would.
01:32:54
Speaker
ah TT2 is definitely an interesting one. just i didn't 100% want to like... I thought about putting a Top Thrill 2 picture for the art for this week, but I didn't want to open up that can of worms immediately because of that ride experience just butchering the trains or the trains butchering the track. I don't even know. yeah I'm just curious to see how that'll be in a couple weeks.
01:33:18
Speaker
Yeah, I'm very interested to see once everyone is up close and personal with the trains, if there are any like drastic modifications.

Conclusion and Trivia Question

01:33:31
Speaker
They're very comfortable. it Definitely could feel a little bit of the vibration. um Well, you were much higher off the track, so I think that is expected. dead
01:33:42
Speaker
But I'm really interested, like, I'm just really interested to see they made any changes we can tell. Right.
01:33:54
Speaker
I don't know. That whole thing intrigues me. Yeah.
01:33:59
Speaker
right, I don't know about you guys, but I think we had a pretty good discussion. We got through most of the commenter questions, which again, thank you guys so much. You guys always come through in a huge way for us. We're getting so many more comments lately. love You guys are the best. It's getting harder to pick and choose what to read.
01:34:15
Speaker
like I know. know when we started, we were like going through every single comment that we got, and now we're like, you guys are so supportive that it's getting hard to keep up. Yeah, we love it. So just know that if we miss your comment, we will get to on another episode or we probably touch base on something very similar throughout the episode. We appreciate the comments.
01:34:36
Speaker
and Absolutely. We do. We love it. All right, you got trivia real quick before you... yeah To log off. real Yes, because I got an early alarm tomorrow. So I'm just going to... No fluff today. Let's just ask it.
01:34:48
Speaker
There are two coasters in the world with the word train in the title that contain at least one inversion. Name one of them. So there are two coasters in the world with the word train in the title that contain at least one inversion. Name one of them.
01:35:05
Speaker
No idea. There you go. That's a sign of a good question. Oh, I don't have any idea either. This is ah one of the tougher questions I think I've asked. I'll be curious.
01:35:16
Speaker
Hopefully people will comment and yeah, because they'll know it better than I do. Yeah. All right. I was going to say next time we talk to each other, probably won't be for a while because we've got two episodes already in the can. That's true. Like we're mad we're kind of set for like four weeks or something.
01:35:35
Speaker
Yeah. Hopefully next, the next episode I'll be standing while we're recording. And Jen, i Jen, I think we'll have a trip recap. Yes. ah Oh, she will. Well, on episode 16, not the next episode because next episode is already recorded.
01:35:49
Speaker
Yeah. So, um, I will have a a larger trip recap. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Very exciting.
01:36:01
Speaker
So I think that that brings us to the end of our episode. Oh, I say that every time, even though we're always at the end of the episode. Look, we already know we're at the end of the episode. It's a good way to wrap up, guys.
01:36:15
Speaker
Hashtag whatever. Literally hashtag whatever. Remember to always think inverted. And we'll see you next time. Bye bye.
01:36:46
Speaker
Bye.
