What happens when the life you built no longer feels like yours?

That is the question at the center of this conversation, and it is one most high performers never think to ask until they are already stuck.

Laura G. Patac spent 25 years leading global initiatives across seven countries and five continents. From the outside, it looked like everything a successful career should look like. But inside, something very different was happening. The milestones were still there. The performance was still there. But the meaning behind them had quietly started to fade.

That realization became the foundation of everything Laura now does. As a Gallup-Certified CliftonStrengths® coach and creator of the Strengths Velocity Lab™, she helps high performers see what most people miss: the strengths that got you here can quietly become the ceiling keeping you there. In Part 1, Laura and Sonnie pull back the curtain on why high performers get stuck at the exact moment they should be growing, and what it actually takes to break through.

What You'll Hear

Why high performers feel stuck even when everything looks successful

Laura had the career, the titles, the global travel. And then one day she realized that achievement was no longer creating alignment. She describes it as emotionally flat: going through life but not enjoying it. That moment, she says, is not the end. It is often the very beginning of reinvention.

How your greatest strength can quietly drive burnout

Using her own top CliftonStrength, responsibility, as the example, Laura breaks down how a strength that goes uncalibrated under pressure becomes a trap. She was taking on responsibilities that were not hers to take, adding to everyone's plate including her own, and calling it drive. It looked like strength for years before she recognized the emotional cost hiding underneath it.

The difference between success and significance

External success and internal fulfillment are not automatically connected. Laura draws a clear line between the two and explains why so many high performers have built lives that look great on the outside while quietly struggling on the inside. The danger, she says, is not changing. The danger is continuing to live according to a definition of success that no longer belongs to you.

Why silence is where your patterns get loudest

When you are always running, you can ignore the disconnect. But when you finally stop, the patterns become impossible to miss: over-responsibility, people pleasing, perfectionism, difficulty asking for help, achievement tied to self-worth. Laura walks through how to create intentional white space to hear what your patterns are actually telling you, even inside a full life and a demanding career.

The emotional loneliness of identity transition that no one talks about

Moving away from a version of yourself that people recognize and validate comes with a specific kind of loneliness. You enter a space where your new direction is not fully clear yet. Laura describes that in-between season honestly and shares what she learned on the other side of it.
