Speaker: um But we had a. We reached out to a few people and you know we have a. We have, let's see here, who was it?
Speaker: um I'm trying to think who was it? Oh, Brian. Brian's the one that brought it up to my attention that since we've been not doing a lot of stuff with um another shop podcast that we should have on the show.
Speaker: So I reached out to Bill and well, all and behold, he's on the show. Oh, what's going on? What's going on guys? I'll tell you what, if we are definitely blue, my friend,
Speaker: who I made him a deal. He sent me a shirt. I sent him a shirt. I told him, okay, we'll do something better. i said, well off we'll wear each other's shirt on the show.
Speaker: I got to be right about it. So guys, I like what you did. Got the QR code. You got your destinations. Yeah, yours has that on the back. it could just be the alcohol talking.
Speaker: yeah um well speak of the devil himself b brian and stalking you that's right so when i uh reached out to you you said yeah you were actually uh better words you said uh oh hell yeah um that you wanted to come on Yes, sir. um And I told you we had a an actor called Daniel Coles coming on.
Speaker: I didn't know much about him. Believe it or not, I met him. i didn't meet him. I started talking to him when my shortly after my mom passed away.
Speaker: And he told me about his mom. and well, we just kept talking after that. So we're going to find out more about him. So let's bring him on.
Speaker: Hello. Hello, Daniel. How are you doing? I'm doing good. And what's going on, bro Brian? Brian, it's not it's not YouTube echoing.
Speaker: I think it's just streaming today. Hey, how are you? I'm doing good. How you doing, brother? I'm doing great.
Speaker: Like I said, we started talking shortly after my mom passed away. And then you told me the story about your mom, which, you know, I am sorry to hear about your mom.
Speaker: and you go um And that's how you told me that she lived right by me. I was like, wow, small world. Yeah. Yeah. and we ah We went around that area a lot.
Speaker: Did you grow up around here? No, no. They actually ah they moved down there a couple years ago, and they were at Homosassa Springs first. And then when my stepfather died, she kind of moved away from the water back over towards the Sugar Mills area.
Speaker: and Yeah, I live not too far from the flea market. Oh, okay. Yeah, my my brother lives right there. um Sugar Mill, well, I never want to live there.
Speaker: I don't want to be restricted or anything like that. That is a very serious HOA. Yeah. And trying to sell a house there is very difficult. But we're we're doing it.
Speaker: I was about say, did you finally get to sell in the house or? It's supposed to close this next week. So, yeah, I think i think everything's finally, you know, that that that stuff you go through when a parent dies, especially if you're the executor, you're so busy that you don't really get that chance to mourn.
Speaker: So daniel this starting to, you know, all her stuff's about to be gone now. I'm starting to kind of feel it a little. So, but you know, it's, it's something that every, every one of us has to go through.
Speaker: Unfortunately. Yep. So let's, since I only found a little bit on lineup for you, why don't you tell us about yourself? Alrighty. I am ah Daniel Coles. I am 53. actually,
Speaker: I was in the United States Coast Guard straight out of high school for a couple of years. i I was kind of young and dumb then. So that structured life I didn't think was right for me. So as soon as I was able to get out, I did.
Speaker: um And then for a year, I drifted around trying to figure out what to do with my life. And I missed the structure. So I got into law enforcement here in Georgia. ah Started off in a detention center, had every intention of being one of those hot rod rookies getting out on the road and and you know protecting the town and putting on the cape.
Speaker: But I started to excel in the detention center and and found that it was a place that I could operate well and and function. So here I am 28 years later. I am a captain and commander of the sheriff's office.
Speaker: um And some of the bios are saying retired law enforcement um or it says after his career, I'm actually still full time law enforcement. i actually did an eight hour shift today. today
Speaker: Awesome. and You're in good company, my man. um I'm a former CEO myself. I did two and a half years at the state penitentiary and um it was actually BCCX in Tennessee.
Speaker: And i I left there and went to the sheriff's department with the same aspirations that you had. And I just, I fit better working back in the jail than I did, you know, i mean, I applied for the road.
Speaker: I had it until I said I didn't want to switch shifts and they said, well, we need somebody that's going more open. But dude, I tell you what, i corrections. A lot of respect, bro.
Speaker: I appreciate it. I've done it, like I said, 28 years now. And I being part of the sheriff's office, being part of an organization like that, they really become family. So everything I have and the person I became is because of them, because they were willing to tolerate me, and keep me around But you know the acting bug, that that was something I always wanted to do, but I got a family.
Speaker: I got kids, so career had to come first, make sure that you can support your family. And I finally got to that point where I started looking at things saying, you know acting was something you always wanted to do Something my mom begged me to do, but I wouldn't do it. I didn't have the confidence.
Speaker: And somehow without training, without schooling, without an agent, I just decided one day, you know what, I'm gonna try And within my first year, I've got 20 credits. I think I have nine films coming up.
Speaker: And like i said, i I did just do a Drewski skate, which is pretty popular right now. So a few commercials. I just did a NCAA football commercial, which will be coming on soon. So it's just been it's taken off. I think right now all the way through May, I'm pretty much booked. I take on another thing if I try.
Speaker: I know yeah you're doing it. Go ahead. know When I was looking you up myself um and judging from your posters, dude, I'm thinking horror movies like your your genre.
Speaker: And if I saw one, was it called, i don't want to butcher this one, but Halloween Ultimatus?
Speaker: No, no, I wasn't there. I wish I was. Halloween's one of my favorite, too. um I'm a huge Halloween fan. And yes, I am a horror fan, which... It's kind of funny to me because my first several roles were almost all law enforcement or bad guy.
Speaker: That's just what I kept getting. And ah all of a sudden I've got a run in horror. I actually have eight horror films coming up just back to back to back. Okay. So like I said, I was i was just trying to,
Speaker: That one kind of grabbed my attention a little bit and I'm like, okay. And I couldn't remember if that was an upcoming or if that was one you've already done. um Where, where's the one? I actually am just, I'm a part producer in that.
Speaker: Yeah. and IMDb did not sit and the one I looked up, I didn't say that it just has the movie there. Okay. Yeah, I did. I didn't. I wasn't able to get to where I needed to be. i actually They actually there. I believe that same individual, Mr. Blevins there. He's doing a Halloween eclipse right now as a fan film too.
Speaker: You got, um you got some movies coming up. You know, one with, uh, but, Actually, the director we've had on our show, Chase Dudley.
Speaker: Yeah, Chase, A Widow's Oath. Yep, that's coming up. That's ah kind of a medieval time kind of kind of story. um But yeah, there's there's a I have some horror. There's a few that are horror coming up, but it just seems to be that horror...
Speaker: seems to be the genre that I've suddenly, I've hit on. um And ah like I have ah coming up, the next one coming up is The Usher with Phil Herman. Yeah, we're not.
Speaker: That one, when I went to put it in, type it in and stuff, and I have AI correct my spelling and stuff, it kept putting your Usher with a slash her aher Slasher, Slasher, Slasher.
Speaker: Yeah. That's what it was. They kept putting it together. And Brian, we know you'd be a hoarder.
Speaker: Yeah, we are. ahre We're doing that um actually next weekend. I'm flying to New Jersey to be in that one, but... there's There's quite a few coming up. I don't know if you're familiar with the Witchcraft series. There's like 17 films from there.
Speaker: I've been looking that. I tell you what, anybody that grew up in the 90s and had that late night, you know, vibe, you know, i had the little cable box or that scramble channel, trust me, I absolutely loved.
Speaker: I've seen just about every one of the Witchcraft, or I'm sorry, the Witchcraft movies. Part five being my favorite. Well, Andrew Pearson, you know, he was in a few of them and he's actually now got the rights to make the new one. He's doing a witchcraft, lantern, a light.
Speaker: And he's got a lot of good people in that, too. Yeah, this is this is going to be something. um The names the names just kind of keep getting bigger and bigger as we go. So yeah I talked to him after you told me to get a hold of him. Yeah. a um And.
Speaker: We're still going to work out try to figure out a date for him to come on right now. He's, you know, pretty much booked. I can't do a whole lot like what he does, but so we'll see when we can do it. I'll have him on eventually.
Speaker: Okay. Yeah, no, I got to have my A game on because last week you had Mary Kate as a, as a guest host guestto and right behind me, I think is Mindy Doherty coming on next week. Yes. So with those, jet they're the front and back. I'm going to really have to have my A game on because they're pretty incredible.
Speaker: We had Mindy on for the military show and she was telling us a little bit of her story and I told her just, you know, hold up. Wait a minute. We're going to have you back on. I want you to tell your story, uh, without everybody being around.
Speaker: It's a, It's a pretty unique story. Oh, yeah. That she went through. um ah You know, I got to, one of the things that I really want to talk about, because I'm so excited about it, is I got to be in a SCAD students thesis short film, um which is actually a mocap animated superhero film.
Speaker: And, you know, Zoe Nevins, that's a name that people will remember. she's She's pretty smart and she's got great ideas. So this thing's actually getting finished and coming out. And it's not a superhero movie. I don't know if you're familiar with The Boys and Homelander.
Speaker: Yeah. It's almost kind of like that. It's about a superhero that makes a mistake and he's trying and trying to be good and nobody's allowing him to to be forgiven and he kind of loses he kind of goes a little bonky.
Speaker: Homeland was never good. no and That's what I'm saying. This guy started out good and he just gets tired of the bullshit and carnage ensues.
Speaker: I'll tell you what, yeah the comedy that i'm playing Homelander, dude, I saw him for the first time in Banshee. I thought he was, he's an incredible actor. He really is. Anthony's star is amazing.
Speaker: Yeah. it Knowing him without that blonde hair and stuff like that, it's like, wow. Yeah, he's ah he's an amazing actor. that That whole role that he played, if you watch it from the beginning through the series, he actually was able to turn the menacing on more and more and more.
Speaker: So that was, and it was just a look. Oh, yeah, he he did a great job. He did. He did. But, yeah, there's a there's a couple of things coming up, you know, and I just finished a oh Hourglass with A.J. Gensler and Joel Valdez as a director.
Speaker: That's a short that I think is going to do really well. it's It's pretty funny. I play a buffoony ah office manager. So I got to put a little comedy in there, which I haven't got a lot i haven't got to do a lot. And that's that's a shame because that's more my my thing is comedy.
Speaker: I do what I can. You know what? I got to pause for just two seconds here. I got a special guest myself come walking in. um She decided she was going to a cookie class and she is just beside herself. So um Mark, or do you mind if I you know let her go ahead and show this off a little bit? This is my wife. yeah Come on up. Come on up. Don't be scared.
Speaker: Oh,
Speaker: those actually look good. Now going have to test them.
Speaker: I think they slid. Now you're going to have to test them.

Speaker: It's not nothing like putting her on the spot here. No, it's actually more putting you on the spot. Yeah.
Speaker: Let's see. There's a, you know, i also have a. They're wet. Okay. So she gave me the acorn. Ha.
Speaker: Ah. He's got to get rid of his gum. Is it still warm?
Speaker: So honestly, I gotta to say, I mean, my wife my wife made them, so it's the best cookie I've ever made.
Speaker: Brian wants to know how you're gonna send that to them in the mail. guy I don't think they're gonna make it to the mail. she on but They're gonna eat them all. No, they're actually not bad, and I'm actually really picky about my cookies.
Speaker: Sorry about that, guys. she she That was their first night in the class, and she was excited about showing what she made, so I apologize. No, I don't apologize. Look, any chance I get to do something for my wife, I do it. you know she She tolerates me and puts up with me, even though she's probably in the other room watching this in in fear right now, waiting for me to do something embarrassing.
Speaker: So I'm sure she's back there. That's why it's why. that's why it's wide but everybody gets to see it and I don't have to, you know, do much editing if I wanted to. Because I like it live because you never know what can happen. a lot of times it's normally Internet's problem.
Speaker: couple weeks back it was the Internet's problem. You know that one, Bill, because you were supposed to be on the show to do ah Florida or not Florida that night.
Speaker: Yes, I remember that night. Now, the only problem I have with that, Kofi, it is extremely dry. Well, then you got to drink your beer.
Speaker: Now. I was two steps ahead of you, my friend.
Speaker: You just just wanted a reason to drink the beer. Yep. Isn't it Thursday? Yep. Yeah. yeah Today's Thursday, and you know what I forgot to do?
Speaker: Well, I forgot that my Lions were playing tonight. They are right now, actually. yep Yep. Lions and Buffalo Bills. I'll have to watch it. They're playing in Buffalo's brand new stadium.
Speaker: Yep. And it it looks really amazing. Brian, you don't get to have to work. I haven't got to see the the new stadium. Is it still in Orchard Park? It is.
Speaker: It's right across the street from where the old one was. They already took the old one down. Yeah, they did that really quick. Yeah. And Brian, you're supposed to not be asking questions. My God.
Speaker: Daniel, do you have a favorite director, someone you'd like to work with? You know what? I don't really have a favorite. any Any director I get to work with, um I'm so tickled pink, they think I'm Pepto because I'm ready to go.
Speaker: So I'm just, especially at this stage of my life, just being allowed to be on a set. um I would treat every director like they're Spielberg or something because I'm just grateful to them that they've they've allowed me there.
Speaker: um and and And the good thing is I'm just one of those people that every director I've worked with so far, they're now my Facebook friends. you know i Once it's over, we've kind of stayed friends and we keep talking. that Same thing with some of the crew I've worked with. and I just make friends with everybody and keep going. Because again, I'm i'm so tickled pig to be there. They're they're like, you're the happiest lucky guy we've ever seen. And I'm like, you don't know me that well. But I'm definitely happy to be doing this. Just like being on here. i I watched this actually, you know when I was in Citrus County, there was a feed that came up. And I remember seeing this advertised on one of those feeds. And I watched it a couple of times. And I was thinking, man, wouldn't it be nice to be somebody that somebody wanted on a show like this? And then here I am.
Speaker: and I was happy that you reached out when you did, because was like, well, you know, at that time, I was not we weren't going to put anybody as a guest.
Speaker: We were going to see how it played out. of Most people that we've gotten recently have
Speaker: they seen us with phone bits ah his interview. That one was an interesting zoom one. We did it in a car in his car. We did the whole interview in his car, which turned out great because he played every little thing, every music that was in the background was of his new album that we got to listen to.
Speaker: I keep seeing stuff on Facebook where they're looking for actors and and do you think that's something?
Speaker: I should go after
Speaker: Well, the only thing I can tell you, Brian, is stop asking questions. yeah I'm allowed to give him shit because, you know, he's supposed to be relaxing just watching the show.
Speaker: Yeah. I think he misses it. Maybe he's saying I'm not doing my job. I don't know. Maybe it's the the co-host tonight. Well, quite honestly, I think this is the quietest stuff've I've heard you because I've watched your shows.
Speaker: However. Okay. I'm only one drink in. Oh, okay. Give it a little bit. I did want to ask though. So, you know, he brought up directors and stuff. You know, a lot of people know Wes Craven, they know John Carpenter, you know, the the big names. And now you've got Jordan Peele coming up. Excuse me.
Speaker: the aftermath of the cookie. gotta love cookies. ah One of my all time favorite is actually Kevin Tenet. And he his claim to fame is like Witchboard, which they just redid back in 2023, I think.
Speaker: Or maybe it was more recent. I can't remember. Demon Knight, Demon Knight 2, Witch Trap. You know, I think that the ones that flew under the radar or maybe, you know, kind of kicked it back in the 80s. That right there, like, I mean, 80s, you're not going to beat that when it comes to slasher films, horror films, whether it was paranormal, slasher.
Speaker: supernatural, um, erotic or witchcraft, which I'm hoping they stick to that. ah ah bill got Andrew's got good ideas for that.
Speaker: um It's going to be a good movie. It's going to be good. And he's really going for that that top quality, too. So it's not going to be one of these three makes and they just paid to to have the title on there. He's really serious about it.
Speaker: So he's putting a lot into it. It's going to be good. When I was talking to him about it, he was like, well, you know, I'm particular on... who's on the show. When I when i tagged him in something that, you know, one of the um groups, Facebook groups, he messaged me before he would release it to say that you're, know, going to be on the show. He asked me who the who the co-host was, what, you know, what podcast. And I told him all that. He goes, okay, he released it.
Speaker: because he's very particular on who he loves in his. Yes, he is. in birth Yes, he is. very much i am I understand that 100%. Yeah. And, you know, just like that that question, even though it was Brian that asked it about Facebook, I always tell everybody proceed with caution on Facebook when you're looking at things like that, because there are a ton of scams out there and you just got to really navigate. You got to investigate.
Speaker: Like that basic fear. No, I'm sorry? Yeah. So when you got into movies, though, you know, you said it was just recent, you know, you got the buzz. I mean, I myself, and I've said this to these guys before, i would love to act.
Speaker: And when he brought up there being in a horror movie, everybody, you know, you have a lot of people, you want one or two things. You either want to be the hero or the villain. So, um...
Speaker: I always thought it would be fun to be that guy that, you know, gets off, but I want to make sure I get off before I get off. That's just my thought on it. So I want to make sure I have some fun because those guys are the most memorable ones. When you first got into acting, did you have any idea? Were you looking to be an action hero? you looking to, you know?
Speaker: I think, I think ah my favorite roles are antagonists. because in my regular everyday life, I have to be the straight laced, you know, the straight laced guy on the up and up. and And I always have been, but getting to play somebody that you're not allowed to be, that to me is like a stress reliever. It's fun.
Speaker: um And I did, ah I just did a Western for a young guy, Dale and Messiah called Six where I got to be the cowboy antagonist. um And I had a lot of fun with that. I got to, and he let me just be whoever I wanted to be. And I just turned it into a He's a pretty maniacal, crazy guy.
Speaker: So I had fun doing that. I like the ones that start off as a hero and then kind of end up having to be the villain. And I guess a really good example of that was Daniel Forsyth in House of, I'm sorry, The Devil's Rejects, where he started off, you know, he was the brother of the the sheriff that got off in the first one, played by Tom Towles.
Speaker: And he comes in, he you know, he's straight laced, but yeah I mean, you can tell right out the gate, he's he's not a guy to fuck with. Sorry, messed with. That was my bad. No, you're okay. You're not flair.
Speaker: And then as it goes, you know, as he digs deeper and deeper and deeper in, I mean, people don't realize this how, I mean, there's a lot of thought into that movie. And I could sit down and split hairs with it all day long, but I loved, I normally don't root for the bad guy.
Speaker: But that was one of those ones where, I mean, even though you you're you're still rooting for the bad guy in those movies, like, he stole the show, that role. And I just loved his descent into insanity. And I think that would probably be one of my, I would love to be offered that type of role.
Speaker: It's very challenging to... You start off with one mindset and by the end of production, you're in a different mindset. But that's because when we're shooting it, it's not in that chronological order.
Speaker: So one shot, you may be this character and then two seconds later, you have to be that other character. So it's really, it's really difficult to be doing those kinds roles and pull them off. It's amazing. I never, I never thought about that. Yeah, it's hard because you might be eating lunch and you're the good guy. And then as soon as you put it down, you've got to be the bad and then go right back to the good guy side and,
Speaker: they piece it all together to be chronological, but that's not how they film it. So you're bouncing around a lot with some of these characters. Well, here's the other thing I've noticed. I mean, one of the big things coming out now, I mean, you're seeing more and more people screaming for the director's cut because we all hear the stories that like Friday the 13th, part seven, they had to chop the hell out of that.
Speaker: just to get it passed down x rating um maximum overdrive same thing but then i think back to like i spit on your grave and just how dude that was a that was a rough it was a rough movie both the reboot and the original yeah and i'm like how are they getting away with that and these other guys i mean is it because of the name maybe i don't know they didn't like friday the 13th back then different i think it's It's harder now for certain things to be depicted on movies, certain types of scenes.
Speaker: um And it's the big budget productions that cut them. They're like, nope, nope, nope, nope. nope We gotta to have it a certain way. And and a lot of the indie indie filmmakers, and that's why so far I really like them is they don't ever say no. They're like, hey, let's try it. Let's see what it does. Let's go see what it looks like. And they'll let you try it.
Speaker: And a lot of the times your suggestion makes it to the final cut and kind of feel like all right now that movie's part me. You know, I got to make work.
Speaker: So this was a question i was trying to jump on a little while ago. i have to ask where, because I was, I've been digging all over the place. I wanted to see some of these movies. Where can we find some of the stuff that Like, I mean, a lot of your independent stuff ends up on the Roku channel or Tubi or, you know.
Speaker: Tubi is the best place to find um independent films. You can find anything on Tubi. A lot of my stuff, believe not, just because I've only really been doing it a full year, is just now starting to surface.
Speaker: um I was actually in an episode of Fatal Attractions, the crime docu-series, as a detective. That's out. I did a little short scene in D.R. from Detroit. the BET television show.
Speaker: um There's actually going to a premiere for a film November 12th here in Atlanta. For one, it started off called Paint It and Taint It by Dara Fraser and it's now called Bruised by Love.
Speaker: um And I have a little scene in that. But all the things that you're going to seeing now that are gonna be coming out are a lot bigger than what I've done. ah there' there's There's so many things. I'm actually having to turn auditions down just because it's happened so fast that one, I'm not i'm not quite trained enough yet to to handle all of that. you know it's There's a lot more to acting than acting, get in front of that camera.
Speaker: That's 10%, there's 90% of the business side. And until you get to grasp on that and how that thing works, you don't wanna take on too much too fast. I learned a valuable lesson. um it can come at you so quick and get overwhelming.
Speaker: So what once kind of inspired you though, like me? i mean, obviously I'm a huge Jason fan. I absolutely love Friday the 13th. I love, you know, a Halloween. But I'll tell you what, it I think like the smaller, think back to Sleepaway Camp. Now you guys knew I was gonna touch on Sleepaway Camp.
Speaker: sweet But the sequence- I knew why. were so much more fun though. They they they took on, like when Pamela Springsteen took over as Angela, I mean, it just took on a whole new, like it it almost makes you laugh.
Speaker: And you're not really supposed to be laughing if somebody's getting gutted on screen, you know? It makes you feel like there's something wrong with you. You you do again those ones you start to root for her. you you feel for the, you know, the the protagonist, but her, it's like,
Speaker: She was the ultimate, how, you know, how is she going to do it next? She was, and they actually made those fun. I think they were they were so busy competing with some of the other ones that they were going to put a little humor in this and make it almost ridiculous to be that great. And they weren't. They were hysterical, really.
Speaker: As somebody was getting their head cut off, you were laughing. that was That's probably not supposed to happen. but And the front part, again, those 80 flicks, they relied on actual special effects.
Speaker: Not today, where everything is CGI. That's where that's why I start to fall kind of flat on a lot of stuff. Bring back the special effects. Greg Nicotero, absolutely incredible.
Speaker: Tom Savini is like the Mount Rushmore himself. or Special effects. And these guys did it all. Just, I mean... What, prosthetics?
Speaker: Fake blood? Yeah, they are. Even the bad eighty s horror movies were good compared to in hell. I remember a movie called The Stuff that was about killer ice cream from the ground.
Speaker: I loved that movie. It was so ridiculous that I loved it. and A movie called by New York Rippers. Yeah. have A ripper. Oh, oh, and back in the 80s, I mean, I love when the what was it?
Speaker: There was a name for it, like the Italians came in and there was a lot of Italian directors and they they really pushed the boundaries with their stuff. Yeah. oh Well, I'm trying to think they were zombies, zombies, too. um And i one of my all-time favorites, the the original found footage was um Cannibal Holocaust.
Speaker: Oh, yeah. black That's old. That was the original found footage movie. That's what kind of started it. Not Blair Witch, which was I thought was great.
Speaker: But, I mean, I like those ones. um I wish I could remember the name that they used for these Italian directors that come in. I mean, this like I said, they really...
Speaker: How about this? Let's take a break. And while we're on the break, look it up.

Speaker: This all has to do with the theme of September and most of the year. most of the year is suicide awareness or suicide prevention, ah you know, mental health.
Speaker: And i'm a big supporter of that out of everything. so I'm going to play the song and then when we come back, we're going to play a game called Florida or not Florida with a little twist.
Speaker: These two came up. So let's see what happens. All right.

Speaker: I'm telling you right now, it's done wonders. I learned some neat stuff about sound and you know what, since we're talking about movies, you know, you guys got sound guys and grips and all that fun stuff.
Speaker: I found something out. So my studio, I did a lot of echo reducers to try and because I mean, when you're in a door walls that are plywood, yeah, you get a hell of an echo.
Speaker: And you sound, you know, even just talking across room, you sound far away. So I reduced it. Sounds so much better until you get right about here.
Speaker: and then this beast right here has become a giant echo box of a sudden.
Speaker: So now I gotta try and fool around with the inside of this to try and, dude, it sound is a pain in the ass. So- Well, we'll find that.
Speaker: ah What I wanna know is, so when you're doing movies, Daniel, know I guess I could've asked this earlier, i don't know, what either way, what is the hardest aspect of making or producing a movie? what I mean, I know that you got spots you're supposed to stand in, it's not, you know,
Speaker: But is it the sound? Is it the lighting? Is it, you know, what what do what do you find more challenging when making a movie?
Speaker: Honestly, i believe sound is one of the problems because ah in the the movie six I did with ah for Dalai Masai, I actually had a leather um stalker on for my cowboy character. And every time I moved,
Speaker: It literally was louder than my voice. You could hear the leather creaking. So we had to actually go back and redo and do a lot of looping to get the sound right. And that's not something that you automatically catch when you're filming. It's something that they catch later on.
Speaker: So sound is really important. People don't realize that it's when when they're doing sound, they're going pick up your stomach growling. You know, if your stomach growls in a scene, they hear it. So sound, I think, is probably one of the...
Speaker: more complicated situations or more complicated parts of making that film.
Speaker: Brian has a question. Where's the best place you filmed? Yeah, I saw that. I was going to answer that. um It's not necessarily a destination. Excuse me.
Speaker: I got to go to the SCAD film studio. and film there. And they have such a great setup for their students. I mean, they had a giant green room. They had digital rooms. They had all this great stuff there for them to make these films.
Speaker: And a it it was just a variety of options that we had to to jump around. And you know I had to wear the mocap suit, which you have to you have to calibrate every 15 minutes, which is basically doing exercises.
Speaker: But SCAD, the SCAD University to me, All these kids were so eager to do it right and to to make their they're a little movie that may seem, in it's it's kind of insignificant to us, but to them, it's their thesis, it's their grade, it's their start. But going there, to me, was almost like an honor that she picked me, Zoe Nevins. And I think so far, that's been the greatest place I've filmed, just because every single person there, from the camera person to the PA, a was so excited and enthused about what they were doing that it made the environment just like lightning.
Speaker: Now I am going to Arizona. I have to admit, I love Arizona. I am going there for a satanic circus. I believe in months, that's a Ivy Van Ress's movie, but I have a part with that. And actually i get to be Mary Kate's first on screen kill.
Speaker: Yes, that was something she told us last week. Yep, yep. So I'm really excited about that. um i love Mary-Kate. She's awesome. And I wish I had gotten to see that one, guys. I'm sorry.
Speaker: and We actually... We have our shows on at the same time on Thursdays. ah Downfall of this. Next weekend, they get that's going to be just as good because she brings it she She really does. Speaker: So when I did the three count, it was a little bit of a heavier pour on the two juices and a little bit of a lighter pour on the sweet and sour. So the reason I did this, we'll get it out of the way.
Speaker: You got basically a neutral. You got a high you know something that's got a high profile behind it. Trust me, that flavor. You guys have all had it. Something sweet with a little bit of a cinnamon kick, little bit of spice behind it.
Speaker: This gave it that nice little sweet and sour mix. Well, taste. um Cranberry gave it that bitter. And then this I threw in there just because I felt like it would work.
Speaker: So here we go.
Speaker: And let's see. Let's see if he smiles or he passes out. And there it is. This we haven't come up with a name yet. So here we go.

Speaker: Maybe, maybe ahll are you know, he could He could do it and video what his reaction is. Yeah, I'll do a videotape of it and put it right on there.

Speaker: Dude, this is fun. Can we do this again?
Speaker: Anytime. I love, you know, this is a, like I said, doing stuff like this is a dream to me. It's not something I'd ever really considered that I'd be doing. So I'm always willing.
Speaker: Hey, Brian, you got to let me ask the questions. Come on, because, you know, he did answer that question. or i mean. I did. The Usher. Brian just wasn't paying attention.
Speaker: I don't know that he was on there yet. That was like the very first thing we talked about. But yeah, know her iss the Usher. And you know, something that's really exciting is I'm going to jersey New Jersey where family is. And my sister, Christy Henson, is there. and Christy Coles Henson, she's actually, because he found out that I was going to be visiting her and he felt like it was taking away time, he's actually having her come to the set too.
Speaker: And she's going to be a background in the scene with me in the restaurant. So that's going to be amazing. That's awesome. Yeah, that was cool. That was cool. And I do want to shout out to my brother, Stephen Coles. He is a...
Speaker: United States Coast Guard veteran. Many years, he yeah he did a lot of the drug interdiction stuff and the you know I'm really proud of him and everything he's done. And he lives right there by He's right there in home assassin.
Speaker: Nice. So Mark, I do have a question. Go ahead. Oh, sorry, brother. um So Daniel, for those, you know, Mark kind of, or I'm sorry, Brian touched on this earlier.
Speaker: For those that, you know, you brought up, or he asked the question about, you know, he's seen some stuff on Facebook. He might've been being he's saying it in jest, who knows. But for those, and I'm actually one of these people, for those wanting to try and get into the industry, just a, you know, a foot in the door something,
Speaker: How would you suggest doing it? How did how did you do it? And what was... Well, one, you know, I was very fortunate. i have a friend of mine who's a veteran actor. i knew in New York when I was in the Coast Guard back in the ninety s late 90s.
Speaker: It's John Zucchino. He is in California. He is a phenomenal actor. He's in a ton of stuff. He's got... he um When I told him, hey, look, I want to do... And it really started with Survivor. Wow. To tell you the truth, I made it through the final cuts of Survivor and was actually going to wind up being on an episode or on a season. But I had had a heart attack and the medication that I'm on now, Fiji doesn't approve it.
Speaker: So I couldn't go. And I was kind of heartbroken. And he told me look, why don't you make a backstage profile, which is ah it's an app which allows you to apply for a lot of the indie films and and smaller projects.
Speaker: And he said, just go on there and make an app. It's like ninety nine dollars for the year. You get unlimited stuff. So I did. And I started applying, you know, that they don't match you for jobs that might fit you.
Speaker: um So you don't even really have to search every day. New new stuff loads that's posted. You can actually click it and apply right then. And what they'll do is they'll send you a request for an audition over video.
Speaker: just make a few videos. um And that's what I did to have a, I didn't have a real game because I was new. So I made, I took some of my favorite quotes. Like I did Jaws.
Speaker: um I did Quint from Jaws, that whole city hall scene where he talks about killing the shark, getting the money and all that. So I made a few videos of my own and I started just applying to things. And all of a sudden I started getting requests.
Speaker: Well, those requests, they wound up to basically give credits in an IMDB. And then I switched and I've got Backstage and Actors Access. Both of them have been extremely helpful in getting these roles and getting parts.
Speaker: And it gave me the launch off that I needed just to to really get started. So that's what I would tell anybody is start with legitimate ah apps that you know are legitimate. and I can promise Backstage and Actors Access, they're both legitimate.
Speaker: The problem with Facebook is anybody can get on there. Anybody can post something. You really don't know what you're what you're applying to or who you're applying with. So if you're going to do it through Facebook, do research, look and see if they have an IMDB. Look and see if they have an Instagram that matches their Facebook page before you apply.
Speaker: But really, backstage, if you get on backstage first, Backstage does a lot of the smaller independent films, things like that, which they're going to be more inclined to take a chance on somebody that maybe doesn't have a reputation yet.
Speaker: Actors access kind of steps up a little bit into bigger projects. So you kind of have to have an established name or credit list, but your backstage is definitely the way to start.
Speaker: And basically, you towards the end there, are you definitely, you answered my next question. So, I mean, but do you ever post any of these, you know, like maybe on your your Facebook, your Instagram or whatever, you know, for those looking to get into acting, do you ever think about maybe posting some of these, you know, links?
Speaker: I have. And ah I will often post um my backstage access account to show people what it looks like. Because somehow I went to...
Speaker: If you look at the backstage access, I'm listed as top performer, in demand, professional. And I didn't really deserve that title yet. You know, I've only been doing it for a year, but it's because of how I did my page.
Speaker: It's because of the way that I set it up. I set it up in a certain way that if you look at it, I tried to kind of with my videos, do a little short genre of everything.
Speaker: you know, horror, ja readings, dramatic, everything, so that within those two minutes, somebody could see that there's a huge range in there. So when they look at it, they may be thinking, I'm looking for this, and what they first see isn't it.
Speaker: By the end of it, I'm hoping they saw that in there somewhere. So yeah, I got a top performer badge on my thing just within the year doing it the right way. Mark, have you ever thought about getting into acting? When I was younger, Yeah, um but it wasn't until just about a year ago is when we were, when Brian and I were asked to be, our podcast, Talking Shit, will actually be in a movie.
Speaker: Is that that 92 Hours or something like that? 92 Hours. Yeah, I remember reading about that a while back. Actually, before was really even on the show. Yeah, often he had, hold on, ah he,
Speaker: Keith asked us while we were interviewing him if we wanted to be on. So our, our, our show will actually be called talking shit intergalactic radio or news news.
Speaker: We already seen our intro for it and stuff like that. And now we're just waiting for it to come together. And that's, uh, I'm not mistaken. That's like an alien invasion survival thing.
Speaker: Um, but what we know, yes. Okay. Yeah, that way i that agree we haven't got the script yet because he's still fine tuning it. He's got some of the stuff ready to go.
Speaker: ah We're just waiting on him. That's cool. So what I want to do is I want to open up a backstage. In my first clip, just to kind of get the the name out there, i would love Mark to come on with me and he can be Mr. Frodo and I'll be, you know, I'm sorry. Sorry, buddy. Sorry, buddy. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Hey, you know, ah you had mentioned when you were younger. i could be Aragon.
Speaker: But you had said when you were younger, you want to be an actor. but Listen, I am a prime example. And I tell this to everybody all the time. Dreams do not exclusively belong to the young.
Speaker: No. When you believe in yourself, you can do anything you want, man. And it it doesn't matter how old you are. i At the time, i was a kid.
Speaker: ah I was seventh grade, eighth grade, somewhere around there. I actually played, a you know, we had this drama class, and we I played a kid that stuttered. It worked perfect with me because I stutter anyway.
Speaker: And i was having fun with it, and, you know, that was it. And then I found, you know, if females, and, you know, that was all that stuff.
Speaker: I lost interest in acting. Yep. yeah That'll happen. But yeah, acting's a... I would love to either do a horror movie, but just like you, as a kid, I always dreamt of being an actor, but I went a different path. I always wanted to be like Van Damme.
Speaker: I wanted to be, you know, because I got a strong martial arts background. um no No pats on the back here. I never really talk about that part. Only because it's a domino effect. You know, when you start telling people that, hey, and so you know, you competed, you did this, you did that, then, you know, you always want to challenge that guy. It's like, oh, you know, oh, okay. So I always kind of leave that part out, but I'm throwing in here only because i would love to be able to do a movie sometime. And I think either horror movie or action, I would be right up there.
Speaker: So, Bill, what's making you not do it? You're not doing himself
Speaker: what's making me not do it good question yeah and so like everybody else i kind of question what's real what's not real online now i've got family that actually has connections to people that does i mean there's independent and then there's like independent to the independent that's the way i like to describe it um You got a lot of these small time.
Speaker: I don't know. i tried one time. i I went to the Living Dead weekend in Evan City. I took my son. He got to meet the original Johnny, the original Barbara. I'm a huge zombie fan, dude. Where I live, Evan City Cemetery is literally 25 minutes away from me. I've been there a bunch.
Speaker: I've met the actors. um but But I don't i don't know. i just i Mainly because I don't know where to start. Well, I'm telling you right now, in the next 24 hours, log on to Backstage Access, pay for the pay pay the fee for the account, make up a thing, and start applying.
Speaker: And you'll be amazed at what you can accomplish. Well, I'm not going to lie. There's another part of me. I love doing this. I love doing podcast. I love being on i love being on screen.
Speaker: I love live streaming. I love meeting new people. And like I said, talking shit, I mean, i go I'm gonna under throw some stuff your way, away guys. We talked way back in the day. We told we we talked about this story. And i you know the first time i ever met these guys, the way they were talking about movies and stuff, we we we have a mutual acquaintance that we met through.
Speaker: But I made the comment. Huh? I wouldn't even call him that. Close enough. who We'll keep it an even keel just for the fun of it. Okay.
Speaker: Okay. But they made a comment. you know, I made the comment. I'm like, you guys need to really have like, you know, I wish you would have like, because we were talking horror movies at the time. Like, oh I wish you guys had like, do you not watch it? Brian was the one that said it.
Speaker: He looked at me and he goes, don't you watch the show? We've had people on here. And that's when the mutual acquaintance, you know, he he threw some actual props out your way. you guys like, yeah, you might want to check these guys out. They've had this, this, and this.
Speaker: They're where I want to be. But that bug has not left. I would love, you know, My daily, I work in a garage. you know I work for a tire company.
Speaker: I don't want to do that stuff anymore. um I'm so passionate. I'm 46 years old. I'm getting ready to turn 47 in January. um I'm getting more and more passionate about stuff that I... And doing this, you know I took a cue from you, Mark. You're like, you know this is the question I've ever heard you. that's why I kind of like, all right, um I'm picking it up right now.
Speaker: I felt like if I, if i like ran like I did, i did not want to overstep you. Good sir. i'm not worried about that.
Speaker: But no, um, overstep the bounds is what I'm meaning.
Speaker: I would love. And I've got a lot of other friends that would love to get into acting. So what's held me back, I really didn't know where to start. I never knew where to begin. Who do you trust? Where do you go?
Speaker: You know, you've heard all that the the famous stories of people going to LA and becoming a waitress or waiter and, you know, meeting somebody that way. I'm blue collar as it gets. I don't mind starting from and working my way up.
Speaker: instead just hoping for that big break. I want to show what I can do. Daniel told you exactly what to do. And, end there um you know, sadly, COVID changed things in this this industry, the way that they do it.
Speaker: And now a lot of things, there's there's very few live auditions. I've only done one out of all these things I've done. Everything is done from home, off your camera. So you get to do it as many times as you want until you get it perfect.
Speaker: And you get to do it in comfort. You're not nervous. And you get to make your video. And they'll they'll send you sides. say Hey, read this. And, you know, I read them a couple times and then feel the character and then just make my video and send it. And i have been on fire. I'm just kidding.
Speaker: I get audition callbacks all the time from my living right where I'm at now. This is where I i actually have a screen over here to left that I pull behind. It's all gray. And I do all my auditions from right here.
Speaker: I guess kind of part of me there is hoping that if I can get where these guys are, maybe I might get that an opportunity. Somebody say, hey, let's give it a shot.
Speaker: And that's far-fetched. And that's not a plug by no means, guys. That's not a, hey, Daniel, what do you think? You know, that's... It's not far-fetched. know, there's always that wishful thinking behind everything. And I think that's the difference. You just said it right there.
Speaker: You just said it right there. You have to go from wishful thinking to absolute certainty believing. you sir And I don't mean like somebody go, yeah, I believe I can do In your heart, you believe you can do it.
Speaker: And other people see that. They feel that energy from you that I'm doing it. You know, and if you're in my way, I'm going to trample you. I'm doing it. And they feel that. And that's the difference is I really want to do it too. I'm going to do it.
Speaker: And if you believe that 100%, I mean, just every part of you believes it, you'll do it.
Speaker: I love it. Perfect way to end the show.
