Speaker: Welcome back. Yeah. A brand new day. Yeah, wait. Do i have to do the intro? it's I'm calling this a part two. I said the other one was part one. Yeah, I don't think we need the intro.

Speaker: and yeah Nobody wants to sing it for us? yeah Has anyone made up their own lyrics to it? No, it's not that kind of song. No, but we got that one done and then, I don't know.

Speaker: I think that was what we recorded last week. Yeah, at the end of last week, think. Yeah, I think by the time we wrapped up, it was just so late because I yeah just you know had more gag issues or something. Yeah.

Speaker: So anyway, you've hopefully heard the first part with the iconic Winona Ryder, goth queen. Yeah, I like the thumbnail picture you chose.

Speaker: I was like, ah so many good pictures. She's so hot now. And she was so hot, Ben. But it's sometimes hard because you're like, oh, no, this is taken by someone professional. I might get in trouble if I use that one. Or like. oh yeah.

Speaker: Oh, yes. ended up picking a picture from um Heather's, which is a a movie that that she's in that my sister Ress is a a big fan of. So, yeah. OK, I was wondering where the picture came from.

Speaker: Yeah, it's like circa Heather's era. um

Speaker: And then, yeah, oh I don't know why that made me think of, we were watching the show today and i was just like, it just keeps going on and on. It's like about this group of friends ah that meet, you know, because their parents, the kids go to the same school or whatever and they, it's like, dinner club. But then it's like, oh, you know, so much insidious scandals and lies and cheating and blah, blah, blah, blah. And one of them died. And i was like, ah.

Speaker: Oh my god. Anyway. it and Now I need to remember what it's called because it's just, oh my god, it was like Dutch. Oh, whatever. so it was like, you know how they do like kind of like the dubbing or whatever now? yeah. It's just not like old-fashioned dubbing. It's really basically ADR'd over. It's additional dialogue reported over it. I don't know.

Speaker: Oh, what the fuck was it called? God damn it. It kind of ended... I still had a question. Yeah. You know, like movies lately, sometimes I wrap it up and you're like, but I still am... Whatever. And not like just like, ooh, open to interpretation. we were like, but we still don't know who did that thing.

Speaker: And who's that person coming into like, you know, horror movie twist at the end. Like, bah! You know, like where they come up late and whatever. I was like, what?

Speaker: That'll be for season two. Right? Yeah.

Speaker: sir Hey, what was that show called they just watching? With all the crazy people. The Perfect Lie. The Perfect Lie. Okay. Thank you. That was going to bug me.

Speaker: The Perfect Lie. Okay. That's what it's called. Never heard of it. man Netflix or whatever. But anyway, we're here to talk about other people that are on TV this time.

Speaker: yeah they're people that have more like gotten famous from being on tv we know how messy those reality tv people can be oh yeah all the all the drama all the scandals um yeah they love it no ah what did they say like no such thing as bad press or whatever Yeah, they will um film people getting in trouble and yeah getting calls that the police are like coming to arrest them or whatever. i don't think I get into, I can't get into all of them. but Like, you know, you can go real housewives arrested and that's kind of how I started. Damn.

Speaker: People magazine, 18 Real Housewives stars who were arrested. Like, there's just lists. but Yeah, there's a lot of crazy. Some more well-known ones. Yeah, yeah. I'm like, I did not watch any of the, like, Real Housewives, Desperate Housewives. I've never watched any of that stuff. Desperate Housewives. Well, at least that's a scripted, that's a scripted drama, though, with actors. But, true, I haven't really either.

Speaker: So... yeah I'm coming at this more of just like heard about them. Okay. I'm like, I'm not a reality TV show person anymore. Even like the, even a lot of the competition shows, like I don't really like anymore. That's usually more my vibe.

Speaker: Yeah. Yeah. I kind of like still a few of like, not even the cooking ones anymore. Cause those, kind of got like annoying I don't mind like some of the baking ones that are a little bit more like chill um I mean Howl's Kitchen is always going to be one of my favorites I'm never going to stop watching that one but yeah like Chopped and stuff like that we don't really watch anymore Yeah, used to like Chopped. ah you used to like um I used to like Beat Bobby Flay.

Speaker: And then we used to watch like Top Oh, really? I think he's annoying. we used to watch like Top Chef and... um Yeah. Yeah, I used to watch like so many shows. And then like the early two thousand s ones. So like my family, we used to watch Big Brother biggest loser okay yeah oh the biggest loser that one you watched amazing race used to watch survivor all those sorts of shows so i've just gotten so the race is a staple in my family yes the race yeah my parents still watch it i think at least the canadian ones but yeah i just like i don't know i think i got like tired of them mean

Speaker: I can't believe some people are still watching Survivor. People are doing Survivor pools at work. Who's still watching season 50, like, thousand of Survivor? I don't know. yeah Well, I know Mae Martin is, because they're always talking about it.

Speaker: But anyway. Yeah. They're living the ultimate dream. Their spouse is a Survivor alumni. Oh, damn. it's And the only reason I know that is because of their podcast and they were also on the traitors parvati that is the one that was on survivor anyway must be so weird she's like yeah one time i just come home or mace it was like one time like yeah i've just been watching your season on tv babe it's so weird i anyway i don't know i would be so cringy if there was like

Speaker: public footage of me like that. i don't know. I just like... It's rough enough having to listen back to yourself. Yeah. Can't imagine 20 years removed from like something. just yeah Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker: Like watching your old school plays and stuff. Yeah, that's funny. Thankfully, there's no proof. there's no proof ever there's no true evidence There's no evidence I ever

Speaker: no no we're kind of lucky growing up in that era and then like even like having rain what 2007 it's like facebook was kind of a thing like i have like one video of her like trying to sit up when she was a baby but it's not like sometimes the kids nowadays get plastered and we'll get into it like this is gonna feature some kids on tv oh damn yeah can uh yeah mean this is where it all began no the age of the the vlog and the youtuber oh god yeah youtuber families and damn yeah it's not always good no not usually good really yeah i'd say more often than not uh most people are like traumatized even with like the reality tv shows um yeah like the um

Speaker: Oh, one of the early ones, I think we watched a little bit, the John and Kate plus eight. Oh, yeah. They had that many kids because they had in vitro or whatever. yeah like All those poor kids are like growing up on TV. Yeah. Yeah. but We didn't really have a problem with it then.

Speaker: Did you? Yeah, we watched that. And then we used to watch. ah

Speaker: and The friggin Duggar family, the 19 kids and counting. we all know how that fucking turned out. um Yeah, i wasn't going to go down the Duggar route. Yeah. Or I could have talked about, like,

Speaker: Honey Boo Boo, her real name's Alana, and her mom's kind of a shitty person, too. But I was like, I don't want to do those dance mommy types. Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker: Who else did we watch? Oh, we watched, like, Little People Big World, too. I think they're like they got divorced, and then, like, it was all a shit show, or... Yeah. A lot of people really like the... um

Speaker: this it's sort of in the same vein ah just some disabilities i guess like the one with all the um the people love on the spectrum where like all the people have like oh that's like down syndrome people yeah and stuff like that one it seems really sweet yeah people are like they're like so like honest and just like open and it's just like what if relationships were just stripped of all like pretenses a lot of people say is what it's like it's just like let's just let's just be friends shall we but they they like actually mean it yeah i'm just like oh that's cool anyway um okay so let's talk about some other people

Speaker: I know. i have no idea who you're going to talk about. this is so crazy. Okay, I'm ready.

Speaker: Yes, yes. I've heard of some... i did used to read People magazine back in the day, so I'm not going to say I'm not guilty of... Yeah, I read a little bit. read Not a lot. Just some tabloids. Yeah. um the The Real Housewives series itself began in 2006, so it's actually... Wow. Wow.

Speaker: just Just a year older than my kid. Crazy.

Speaker: Sorry. And that started with Real Housewives of Orange County. So started in... That's California, right? Yeah. Makes sense. They're going to start in the bougie... Yes. LA area-ish. Yeah. um Yeah, it's just never really... I've never really understood what makes people...

Speaker: qualified to be on the show what what they said in the pitch meeting was it like seinfeld where a show about nothing but rich ladies that are probably married but they might not actually be that rich and maybe they're not even married sometimes you're just like like what is this yeah and then they all hate each other yeah yeah yeahs yeah but let's just watch like a boozy ladies at lunch or something like yeah um But as we know, reality TV loves to have people air their dirty laundry. Kind of all messy on TV. Jerry Springer! Or like on The Bachelor. Yeah, shows like this, I hear that they're more apt to put them all in the room together, not give them much to eat, give them something to drink and see what happens and stuff like that. Just to give it the worst kind of perfect storm. Yeah.

Speaker: um so yeah the scandals over the years for this show has have ranged from you know the smaller sort of relationship mishaps your divorces your cheating ah one of your classic boyfriends forging fake cancer documents ha but' didn't really look at that one too much yeah that was some guy named brook brooks ires a lot of people fake cancer man yeah um thing which is weird yeah like getting into the whole like munchausen's syndrome and like yeah that the the sort of stolen valor of the people that want to be known for something that they didn't do or didn't have or like sympathy that they don't need or deserve yeah it's really crazy um

Speaker: So there was a a small song scandal that I wanted to mention. um Not like a diss track, but like one of them, I guess, wrote a song. I never even looked it up I should have listened to it after. um This one, Kim Zolciak, I think is how you say it ah She's a big, tall, blonde one.

Speaker: And this other lady, Candy. With a K. Burris. And they, i guess, worked on the song together. ah But then in 2013, Candy sued Kim for allegedly using like writing and production on the song and not crediting her for it.

Speaker: And the song was called Tardy. Tardy for the party! No, I... It's such a hit. I love that song. No, I can never... Right? Such a banger. I'm suing you for royalties in the sum of $1. Yeah, how much...

Speaker: yeah yeah

Speaker: um but what i liked about this one was there was a housewife name i recognized um coming up here because she's a lot of them have also ah so you know like the traders will have people from housewives they'll sometimes have big brother people so like the celebrity celeb version of like the u.s one etc um So it said, in documents filed March 12, Burris's lawyer, fellow Real Housewives of Atlanta star Phaedra Parks, said her client wrote the song for Zolciak. The married mother of four released and sold the track without the plaintiff's authorization, license or consent, the documents allege.

Speaker: And i was like, oh, Phaedra, we know you. You were a traitor. Yeah. it's really long ass eyelash like fake eyelashes damn anyway i but she's also like a lawyer i guess because some of them have jobs so there you go you mean besides sitting at home being drunk all day

Speaker: going out to lunch and being drunk all day excuse you no i'm just kidding um And they said the suit was filed just before the season five reunion special. So it really stressed came out.

Speaker: She said, I'm not looking forward to it. I can already see it's going to be drama. She tweeted March 11th, arguing makes my stomach turn. yeah I hate people like that. I've, I've known people that like drama follows them every day of their lives. And I just, it's so exhausting. Yeah.

Speaker: Even not being involved in the drama, but just being the person that the person like dumps all the, oh, and then this person's like this, and it's like, I don't even know these people, like just, ah.

Speaker: I know, it's like the only sober person at a drunk party or somewhere. as It's like Jesus. Yeah. well Taking care of toddlers No I know those people even if they say they don't like drama You know if their shit stirs Cause yeah Stir the shit Oh yeah oh So it was about Just to wrap that one up There was a temporary restraining order Requested to stop further sales of the track And I thought it was interesting That the Candy Burris Had also written other successful songs Such as TLC's No Scrubs And Destiny Child's Bills Bills Bills I i was like, damn, those are actually good ones. Yeah. what i've heard of I've heard of those bands.

Speaker: The She says she really blames herself for not handling her business correctly. And Kim clapped back at Candy saying after she showed documents and proved points, the song was put back up.

Speaker: that was quote That was a quote, by the way. Show documents and proved points. but The song was put back up. The case was dismissed seven months later and Kim left the show that season.

Speaker: I think that was before they invented the term. She had the receipts. Yeah. think that's fairly recent. She proved points. Okay, so when I was reading, back when I was reading People Magazine, back when I was going to travel school, I did see these, this family and this lady, housewife, go through her illegal drama.

Speaker: and I want to cover that one a little bit. And then I actually had to look up the pronunciation of their name because I never did know because it's Italian and it's American pronunciation. I think they said was Judas.

Speaker: oh that's Judas. makes Judas. jupidas Yes. It's spelled G I U D I C E. Oh,

Speaker: And ah think I believe they the Italian pronunciation was something like Judas. So forgive me. no idea. Mispronounce.

Speaker: In my head, i always I think I always just said like Guides or something. So you know what i mean? It's just like now I got to I don't know. I think I have some sort of like language blindness or something where like people will like look at a name be like, oh, that's like the whatever spelling. And I'm like, I don't know. I don't have space in my brain for that kind of stuff.

Speaker: point it will it reminds me of yeah when we were in elementary school and like you'd have to do like popcorn reading in the class we were reading this book about and it had a character named sean um and i'm very very visual and i hadn't been you know i'd been listening to the book and shit like that and whatever because the teacher's reading it every day and then like other people are reading from it but then when i go to read it i'm like talking about this scene guy and i'm like who's this fucking scene guy it's like well it's sean but it's spelled like sean bean right it's like yeah S-E-A-N and you're like but why is that Sean yeah yeah so like my brain if I'm just reading it in my head I'm not gonna bother pronounce the name correctly every time if it's a hard one there's just no time for that shit yeah I have a hard time with names and yeah that kind of stuff and geography I just like yeah it was never geography yeah

Speaker: Now that's got some hard names to spell. Well, some of them are from different languages. Anyway. Yeah. So this was a couple um that started on, ah they were on Real Housewives of New Jersey.

Speaker: So and her first season, Teresa, Jesus Christ. I can't say it. Judas. Judas. You got me thinking Judas.

Speaker: Yeah. It was Teresa's first season on the show. and this is the show's fourth installment, New Jersey. So I guess they had Orange County and then they must have had two other ones. i don't know. I didn't look it up.

Speaker: Damn. There's so many. There's a Toronto one. There's just too much. like

Speaker: Who's asking for it? Who wants this? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, and and and there was result yeah there's a lot of talk about ah how some of them will ah make it look like they have more money than they do. So I had read that she paid about $120,000 to fill her house with like nicer furniture and things like that. So like they try and look like they're living this lavish lifestyle.

Speaker: But most of the time, that's just like on the show. And they're like, don't know, living much simpler. Or they're living outside their means. and Oh, yeah. Yeah. plenty Plenty of people do that anyway, even regular people. yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker: Especially now that you can, You don't have good at budgeting as you. Especially and now that you can fucking, like, finance everything, including your, like, weekly grocery shopping. Like, it's crazy.

Speaker: You don't have to pay anything on time. You can, like, I'm financing my coach, and I'm financing my dishwasher, and, like, everything, and... That's true. Yeah, nothing's paid in full. So like.

Speaker: Yeah, it's just crazy. and man you Yeah, and they make it so you have to have good credit. You have to acquire credit. But yeah, yeah, yeah. Then to do that, you got to be able to qualify for it, etc. it's hard. There's really they need to teach financial literacy in schools. That would be better than a lot of crap they're filling our heads with. We don't need any of this anymore. We have Google.

Speaker: All right. So back to their financial woes. Yeah. Judices.

Speaker: Judices. Oh, my God. This is going to rough. So they filed for bankruptcy in October 2009. And this was just after the first season of Real Housewives of New Jersey ended. Yeah.

Speaker: Sorry, my phone. But by July of 2013, they were charged with bank fraud and bankruptcy fraud. Did you know that was a thing?

Speaker: Bankruptcy fraud? I think I've heard of it before, but I don't really know what it means.

Speaker: It's almost like they have to keep inventing new terms because everything's like mail fraud and like, you know, we need like online terms now where it's like email fraud and this, for yeah. Crypto fraud. Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah. Yeah. I mean, just basically like that they kind of faked it. Yeah. um But we'll get into it a little here. Some details because I hadn't ever really looked into the details. Teresa, a little bit of her backstory. She was born Teresa Gorga in May of 1972 in Patterson, New Jersey.

Speaker: Peterson? Peterson? Patterson? I think it was Patterson. Maybe it's uncorrected. Doesn't matter. um Her and her brother Giuseppe, who goes by Joe, were raised by Italian immigrant parents and she then studied fashion at Berkeley College. um So then she married um a Joe, just like her brother.

Speaker: i think his name is also Giuseppe. So Italian. just makes me feel like

Speaker: uh marries joe oh my god i'm just gonna say judashe i guess judashe on october 23rd 1999 in newark new jersey he was a construction uh builder and restaurant owner and yeah i was like okay so i think he was pretty successful yeah we love an italian restaurant yeah man yeah Four Italian immigrants that they had to overcome a lot in America. Yeah.

Speaker: Um, so yes, they're living the dream. They end up having four daughters together. Gia born January, 2001, Gabriella in October, 2004, Melania in February, 2006 and Adriana September, 2009. Um, so yes, they they were all very yeah cute.

Speaker: Looked a lot like their mom. I don't have, um, like i have I was like, I'm not going to end up putting on pictures, but I was like, it's whatever. Very easy to look up. i can put the um link in our chat here if you want to look at them

Speaker: from the people article. So, okay, so then she had a job working at Macy's as an associate buyer, and then she was hired on The Real Housewives of New Jersey on season one and it said also she's been the only remaining cast member since season eight.

Speaker: So everybody else that was on it originally is gone. Damn, there's that many seasons?

Speaker: she Okay, so so she's been the only remaining cast member since season eight in 2017. Yeah. Oh my god. I don't know what season they're on now. That's gotta be like, what, up there then?

Speaker: If that was like 10 years ago. um But yeah, to her in credit, she has three cookbooks and one meir memoir under her belt. ah The names are Skinny Italian, Fabulicious, Fabulicious Fast and Fit, and Turning the Tables, From Housewife to Inmate and Back Again.

Speaker: which do you think is the memoir title? Yeah.

Speaker: I hope the inmate is back again ah turning the tables is that not a cookbook one how to how to cook while incarcerated can you Italian could also be a memoir sorry what I said how to how to cook while incarcerated here's my cookbook yeah exactly you just open it up and there's just a ah like a chisel inside for like chipping your way out yeah How to plate prison food. How to garnish prison food.

Speaker: Anyway. i think we'll get to the food. She and her husband, Joe, were both charged for the fraud, saying that and it the charge was that they had never paid taxes from between 2004 2008.

Speaker: Dan during which they had had earned about $1 million. dollars Yeah. So they probably, that was some taxes to.

Speaker: um Teresa claims a bankruptcy was due to tenants of theirs that like in the buildings they owned that couldn't pay them their rent due to the bad economy. So they blamed it on their tenants.

Speaker: and stuff the charges included federal fraud charges mail and wire fraud and bankruptcy fraud and ended up up to uh 41 counts of fraud yeah total and stuff yeah that's what it was like a quite a big story at the time i feel like it was one of the first real scandals and if it was over like four years or whatever then yeah it makes sense yeah it doesn't Yeah, it looks bad. Yeah, it's crazy.

Speaker: So the sources said they allegedly conspired to fraudulently obtain millions of dollars in loans. At the same time, prosecutors have accused them of trying to hide assets while in bankruptcy.

Speaker: Oh, and just as an aside, there was Joe charged with careless driving after he swerved into a cop, possibly while texting. Oh my god.

Speaker: So he had to get it go to a criminalal a criminal trial in New Jersey. Wow, I can't talk. Wait.

Speaker: Sorry.

Speaker: Okay, so yeah, there was that. sweared into a cop. Criminal trial in New Jersey, and that was actually for obtaining his driver's license while impersonating his brother. oh my god. Which was because his license was suspended for a DUI. so I hate people.

Speaker: He's not good at driving.

Speaker: No. So, oh yeah, it said ABC News reported earlier this month that Joe has had his license suspended 47 times since he first became a New Jersey driver in 1987. 47 times? What the phone Take it away! my get away for good

Speaker: my god He's kind of a short king. Maybe he just can't see over the... Oh, no, that's just mean.

Speaker: um oh yeah, and they were worried at the time because he... It said, as an Italian citizen who says he came to the United States at age one or two, judiciary whose legal name is Giuseppe could face deportation if convicted of the federal or state charges.

Speaker: oh Then fucking don't come commit a crime. Like, I'm sorry. Yeah, that doesn't look great, especially there's so many people that are really good immigrants and stuff like that because they don't want to get in trouble or get deported.

Speaker: ah That's all we'll say on that. While acknowledging that she doesn't understand some of the charges she and her husband are facing, Teresa told Access Hollywood last month, I love my husband more than anything and I will stand by him to the end.

Speaker: um they the bankruptcy i just put they were 10 million dollars in debt or that there they had said they were i guess um so maybe that was on the bankruptcy filing but as listed in the original federal indictment uh they were also hiding assets yeah whether or not that was true

Speaker: Three vehicles, a boat, a pizzeria, a $280,000 advance for her first cookbook and her housewife's money. They were all hiding from this financial situation. Yeah, i can't do that.

Speaker: you want You understand how to do all that, but you don't understand the charges against you? I'm sorry. Right. Yeah, eventually it said they had to drop their bankruptcy petition in 2011. So I guess that's before the charges.

Speaker: um Meanwhile, the couple's financial troubles were putting people at risk. The building they owned was declared unsafe for human occupancy. yeah. like Yeah.

Speaker: ah one tenant, Sani and Kewe came home to see the sign, that sign on his door. Like it said, unsafe for human occupancy. So he was just left out on the screen.

Speaker: Yeah. Just came home to that one day. Jesus. Yeah, that's so shitty. and You make it everybody else's problem. Like, you have to be so careful when you're getting into, like, rental and stuff. Like, you have to make sure that you have money and, like, especially if you're gonna do the route of, like, apartment buildings or, like, complexes and stuff, you have to be, like... Yeah. Yeah, like, anything that's, like, commercialized like that, you have to be so, so careful. Like...

Speaker: yeah i know people always say like things like oh the landlords you know you can't fight them or whatever it's like well there's a lot of shitty landlords just like there's a lot of shitty tenants right yeah exactly and i stand by like um like treat treat people how you want to be treated like my parents have had rental properties my entire life and stuff and right like they have deals with the tenants that like you know what you know like how much rent is and everything like that but if you need an extra week to pay it or you can only pay half in the first two weeks and you need to pay the other half or you can't pay it this month but next month you can pay both like

Speaker: parents have always believed like just let us know like and everything like that you just need to communicate and stuff but right yeah there's a lot of obviously like landlords and stuff like that that aren't maybe they they themselves aren't in a financial position where they can do that but either because they got their own bills and shit to pay because it's it's not cheap being a landlord either with like property taxes and maintenance and all that stuff but don't make that your fucking tenants problem that's yeah yours to that's your responsibility to handle the exactly like just it's like they just believe in being decent people like yeah It's like you're responsible for maintaining and providing that living space. Like you need to.

Speaker: who Yeah. Like you're responsible for that. So there's problems. You you have to take care of it. Like, yeah. Yeah. No, i't I don't get people that just want to be, act shitty to others. Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah. But yeah, for the most part, I think in most most times you can say like, fuck landlords.

Speaker: a I just happen to know my parents are really good. and fire yeah.

Speaker: Looking for a new true crime podcast to binge, but don't have a lot of time. Check out my podcast bite sized crime. My name is Joy. I'm a school librarian, obsessive researcher and lifelong true crime nerd.

Speaker: can't go right in front of the mic.

Speaker: Oh my God, buddy.

Speaker: You're gonna purr right in front of the mic.

Speaker: what is a star yeah think yeah I'm Gordo's co-host from this mic he's the main you're just his handler yeah he's the real star

Speaker: he's gonna make the real money we'll be like the grumpy cat account or something where it's like he's the real star yeah oh my god only only if we can get invited to the Oscars You can get famous. You can be invited to the Oscars and I can meet all the celebrities. They'll all want to take pictures of you and your little derby face.

Speaker: Alright. back to these.

Speaker: Fraudsters. Yeah. Cameras. Yeah. gammers Um, oh yeah, the poor tenants, the, uh, the one guy coming home to the sign on his door and another woman was forced to sleep on the floor of the salon that she owned, uh, with her kids because they were nowhere to go.

Speaker: and Tenants were locked out. The apartment's power was cut due to unpaid utility bills. And apparently someone said at the time that they should be allowed to stay at the Judas's mansion. The Judas's mansion. I have said it every different way.

Speaker: um Which I was like, that's pretty funny. like yeah Good soundbite. I'm surprised they didn't get like foreclosed on or something. Yeah.

Speaker: In their... Yeah. Well... Yeah, exactly. there It sounds like they're not paying the upkeep on the buildings that they own. But, I mean, they're probably paying it on their 10,000 square foot home. Because, you know, they want to get them there. so Joe of the couple claims that there was nothing he could do because he doesn't technically own the building.

Speaker: ah But that really wasn't true because he owned the company that owned the building. Right. oh my god he's like it's a company in new york it's like sir your name is on that llc yeah oh

Speaker: who are your investors you yeah jesus christ i mean yeah exactly whatever Uh, he had, he was owing $53,000 in utilities. So that's why the power was cut.

Speaker: yeah Yeah. That's quite a bit. Yeah. oh So yeah, he's like, Oh, but I added a generator. and then, um, I don't know if this was the authorities or whatever it was like that came to inspect the building maybe was after like, yeah, it was filling the building with carbon monoxide.

Speaker: Yeah. And the fire alarm monitoring bill was unpaid. So it was he was basically the slumlord of a death trap. week Yeah, oh my god.

Speaker: But I think lucky someone didn't die, honestly. Yeah. Craziness. Hopefully everybody, like... I hope it was okay enough that like people could go in and like obviously like get all their belongings and everything. Really hoping, like...

Speaker: yeah Yeah, this particular saga, they were able to ventilate the place, turn the power back on. But not like that wasn't due to Joe and, you know, Teresa's help. It was ah pressure on the power company or the PSC&G company. And that was from, and think it's like a news show. It's Seven on Your Side. was like they were advocating for the tenants to get back into their homes.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: yeah, there was a good ah like source that was it was an article. It was also incorporated into a Reddit post, so then there was also like lots of comments, which I also find Reddit comments to be very enlightening sometimes.

Speaker: You will get things from either end of the spectrum, but like you know what I mean? like Sometimes it's like people seem to have their um nose on the... whatever that expression is. You know what I mean? like They got the down low. Yeah.

Speaker: um they said they are people who were commenting they've been scammers since before the show started and that's how they paid for their four million dollar home and i guess at one point theresa or someone had said five million dollar house now bitch was like oh i should look up that sound bite if she said that on the show i could just like play it in there like yeah they say such dumb things sometimes times

Speaker: um eventually the couple pled guilty and ended up serving their sentences staggered so that one of them could be out of prison with the kids at at home so that's nice that they let them do that I guess oh my god yeah because they have four kids like I god i feel bad for those kids like very young kids hate yeah yeah all of them are young like Yeah, I do feel bad for that.

Speaker: this ah think they're doing better now. They're like all grown up. But anyway, um so Teresa served like 11 of the 15 months of her prison sentence and was home in time for Christmas 2015.

Speaker: and she did say the food in prison was actually pretty good. so It's funny that you said something wrong with the food. I think it was a pretty, ah you know, what do they call them, like relaxed prison or whatever. minimum Yeah, I think the people committing fraud and stuff aren't going to the high...

Speaker: um Maximum security. Yeah. Like, where did Martha go for her, you know, fraud or whatever? yeah And look at her now. She's friends with people like Snoop Dogg. They probably bonded about jail a bit. I don't know.

Speaker: Yeah. ah So while she was in jail, prison, sorry, prison, she did some cooking, yoga, and meditating. So she got to work on her cooking skills.

Speaker: Oh my god.

Speaker: and But it wasn't so easy for Joe. I guess he had to do 41 months. So that's what? Two years? Like, I can't math the mathing very fast, but he did long.

Speaker: 41? 41 months. It's like when they talk about how old toddlers are. You're like, like so 12 months, 24 months, that would be three years.

Speaker: That's almost four years, isn't it? Yeah. So he was doing his time at the Federal Correctional Institution in Fort Dix. um He who was then released in March 2019. But this is really shitty. He was released into ICE custody and deported back to Italy. So he actually did get sent back to Italy. Damn.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Although not actually that surprising given today's climate. um and that segues perfectly into she supported donald trump in his 2016 election she had worked for him on the apprentice and said that she thinks he's amazing and he'll make a great president please do not clip that as my quote people oh my god and then he imported her husband yeah exactly exactly he would have been in power when that happened yep

Speaker: We know it doesn't matter if you have high ties to someone, you'll still get deported. No, because Donald Trump is a family man. He cares about keeping families together. Oh, yeah. Your BFFs with Melania? Too bad. Bye-bye.

Speaker: Oh, okay. Peace out shit.

Speaker: Yeah, it is sad, though. i'm so so I'm sad for the fucking kids in the family. And then it was like... Yes. They're so young when all this started. Like, one of them was what? Like, a couple years old? Yeah.

Speaker: Jesus. The youngest was born. They've never known their parents, basically. Like... oh

Speaker: Oh, yeah, because the the youngest one was born in 2009. So, yeah, it would have been. Yeah. Yeah, it was rough. It was hard on them. ah And the the then the couple separated in December of 2019. So not long after he got out of prison. Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah. And they had been married at that point for 20 years. Yeah.

Speaker: um

Speaker: Why am laughing? Oh my God. was like, Jesus. ah ah Other than that, like, through um try to look them up, you know, scandal, scandal, this, that, that, you know, it's like, yeah you might find that stuff. or Yeah. If they still get along or talk to each other. has a thing with her sister that she doesn't talk to.

Speaker: So there was this like Teresa remarried actually in August of 2022 to a guy named Luis Ruelas. ah But Teresa's sister, Melissa, and her husband dont did not attend.

Speaker: um and the family feud sort of has to do with this because they, it was like alleged that the sister, Melissa, and her husband were kind of involved with the business partner.

Speaker: of Joe's and the business partner didn't go to jail but then Teresa did so there's like this rift there as well and I'm just oh my god this poor family and then when I was trying to look them up and stuff if I didn't put like Teresa and Joe like fraud or you know whatever their name and stuff like that it would be like oh and then their one kid just had like a freak out at an airport and I'm like stop why are you still in the headlines it's so bad yeah just like crime is never worth it oh oh my god yeah honestly ah the uh the one article because you know i was then like oh okay where are they now or whatever it's like they the kids seem rather well adjusted like they they're like oh here's this one's graduated university and i'm like good for you like you know after all that yeah your parents have been through on tv so

Speaker: I would be so fucking embarrassed if like I had parents that were like on reality TV and like all this shit. like I would just... Yeah.

Speaker: I you don't think I... They haven't known any other way either, so that must be kind wild. Yeah. um So yeah, a lot of their ah the reality...

Speaker: tv housewives scandals are other ones that have committed fraud and things probably yeah i can see a lot of like yeah um

Speaker: yeah like income and tax fraud and all that kind of stuff if that makes sense yeah they're trying to keep up appearances keep up with the joneses trying to like yeah everybody want up each other um there ah yeah there was a couple other ah messy honorable mentions but not no more deep dives really the uh one lady was a real housewives of potomac star named karen huger was arrested on march 19 2024 so just you know just not that long ago yeah she crashed her 2017 maserati oh my god

Speaker: and my god chart yeah stopped by the Montgomery Police Department in Maryland and officially charged with driving a vehicle while impaired with alcohol and driving while under the influence. So there's a lot of them like that.

Speaker: oh yeah. um And another notable like financial fraud, I think, case was the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. Holy fuck.

Speaker: This one's more recent. It's Jen Shaw and her assistant, Stuart Smith, They were both arrested on March 30th, 2021 and charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud in connection with telemarketing and conspiracy to commit money laundering.

Speaker: Damn. Keeping those traditions alive. Yeah. Yeah. So theirs was apparently a telemarketing scheme between 2012 and March 2021, and they were accused of having defrauded hundreds of victims with purported business services and each charged with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and one count of kissmear cons conspiracy conspiracy to commit money laundering.

Speaker: um yeah so then they got charged 2022 and blah blah blah got some jail time well she got six and a half years she got little A little more.

Speaker: Served three whole years. um

Speaker: And then what what else was messy and funny? During one of the reunions, Atlanta's Portia Williams and Kenya Moore ah Oh, it said they during their infamous season six fight, Williams had to pay the consequences. During an explosive argument between the two stars, Williams pulled Moore's hair and host Andy Cohen and staff had to physically pull the two apart.

Speaker: Andy Cohen hosts all the Bravo shit. Oh my god. more press charges and a warrant was issued for Williams' arrest. And then Williams turned herself into the Fulton County Sheriff's Office, where she was booked and released on a battery misdemeanor charge.

Speaker: It's like, okay. For pulling hair? i was like, yeah, just... Jerry Springer shit. Like, that shit used to be on all the time.

Speaker: um One of them, Danielle Staub from New Jersey, was ah arrested with six kilos of cocaine and $16,000 in cash. Damn. Yeah, the New Jersey one was apparently...

Speaker: pretty rough oh i think that one tied back in because wait it said she was charged with possession and ultimately pled guilty to one count of extortion agreed to cooperate with prosecutors the details of her role in a kidnapping and extortion scheme that landed her in jail for nearly one month have been outlined in cop without a badge a true crime book written by charles kipps about stob's ex-husband kevin maher and then it said the same book that caused teresa to flip a table during season one I was like, what is wrong? This is jersey this' the Jersey Shore of Real Housewives.

Speaker: Yeah, I'm like, I can't even keep any of this straight. It's so many people, i have no idea who any of these generic, like, people are. Names are. I know, I know, I know. my god. And then you try to look them up and they just all have, like, plastic surgery face and stuff. So you're just like, well. Yeah.

Speaker: You all kind of look the same with your puffy lips. yeah Yeah. It just was like, oh, it came all the way back around to, you know, Teresa. And then, like, somebody online said something like,

Speaker: I've just been rewatching and like, Oh, I refreshed like the Reddit page from the one that I was actually using as kind of like a resource, a source. And then it, it thought I wanted more real housewife content, even though I'm not subscribed any of those subreddits. no It was like, I think Jersey. Yeah. They said like, I think the New Jersey season is one of the darkest ones out there or like the New Jersey series. And i was like, Oh, great. Yeah.

Speaker: Lovely. That's what you want? a dark season of reality TV shows? Like, no thank you. We need to get better. it never will. There's just...

Speaker: Well, we've gotten rid of some shows. Like, Biggest Loser is not anymore. I mean, I know you guys said just to watch those ones, but some of those, when we look back at them, we're like, what was wrong with this? They're, like, so mean to people. And not even, like, like trying to pretend it was for good, I guess.

Speaker: At least now we're like, you know this is trash, right? Yeah. But it's still pretty bad. Yeah, they a lot of questionable things on that, but.

Speaker: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We're still doing shows like The Golden Bachelor and things. so Farmer needs a wife. I mean. It's. Yeah.

Speaker: The dating ones. They're so weird. Yeah. i can't stand any of it. I just stay away from it all. just like I don't know. It actually like makes me angry to even like think about. like I don't know. I just hate it so much.

Speaker: Right. Yeah. I'm like, oh my god. Yeah. Hey, just be like Ressa and the only reality TV she watches is RuPaul's Drag Race.

Speaker: I'm like, that's fine. You know, they're gonna be catty.

Speaker: Yeah, I mean, at one point I even watched, like, America's Next Top Model. Really? Oh, wow. Yeah. That is an for you. Yeah.

Speaker: Used to watch that. and I don't know. it depends on the premise. Not a whole lot. Yeah. There's not just like different ones. Yeah. Masked Singer. Like, they got they got some some unique ones out there.

Speaker: Yeah. Oh, yeah. real Any of the real housewives, imagine, are just like... don't know.

Speaker: unscripted drama yeah same as the people that can watch the fucking kardashians like you couldn't pay me you couldn't pay me to watch that

Speaker: yeah there's ones that are just about yachts and they below deck the people you know what i mean like they're just like the people that we're gonna as long as it's drama and people are like Or, if i yeah, somebody said it the other day. They're like, yeah. I mean, I watch that show, and I know it's the same shit every year. It's like, this person's sleeping with this person, that person. You know what mean? Like, the sexual tension, drama. Like, I know what it is, and yet I still go back for it. It's like, well that's fine, as long as you know that's what you're getting into. But, yeah. My dad, or my brother, used to like the, um, like, deadliest catch, and, like, ice road truckers, and... Yeah. Fucking...

Speaker: They got some element of danger in them. other but different Other stuff like that. I'm like, no. The last thing I have interest in what is watching somebody at their job and be video games.

Speaker: Really? What about Border Control? or those shows? Those ones are alright. They'd find some weird shit in people's bags. See, that was entertaining. Just because people are like the drug smuggling, I thought was so fascinating. They're such liars. Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah. That's kind of what's fun about watching traitors is seeing if people completely fall apart when they have to fucking lie to each other and stuff like that. You're like, oh, great.

Speaker: ah Anyway. But yeah. we'll Yeah, we'll wrap this up and hope you enjoyed our, i don't know, two-parter episode. yeah Yeah. Thanksgiving week.

Speaker: It's here in Canada. Yeah, yeah. It'll be, what, next month is the U.S. and we'll have the... and then Isn't that when the Super Bowl always is too or some shit?

Speaker: No, that's like February. this That'll be like right before Black Friday. We just rewatched that Eli Roth movie that's called Thanksgiving. It's really fun, actually. I like that one.

Speaker: I have no idea. You didn't watch it? Oh, okay. Well, it's... I don't know. They joke that they're oh, well, it has a, oh, has, it starts out with a scene where they're going, like, there's a Black Friday, like, riot, basically.

Speaker: People are getting killed. Damn. a It's good. It's good. I like, I like Eli Roth, though. Anyway, um I don't usually know directors, but.

Speaker: Yeah, come on. That's the first director I think you've ever mentioned. Okay, he's always... a I know, he's always on this like this show we watch that's about different horror movies and stuff, and they talk about horror movies, and then he's always on there.

Speaker: and I'm like, damn, he's kind of cute for a director. They're not always that hot, you know what i mean? Anyway. like, don't even know who this person is.

Speaker: Oh my god, if you haven't watched it i'm gonna make you watch it next time we come over. Or or that, or we'll watch the one about the the pumpkin horror movie that's called like Carved. um What?

Speaker: I don't know. i heard about it a podcast. I think it was a more of it a smaller, more independent movie, but it was good. It was like killer pumpkins and stuff. I keep almost getting recommended for the one that's about, I think, like a little like Disney cruise or something. I don't know. It's like Mickey Mouse on a cruise.

Speaker: it's like a killer mickey mouse i'm like what the fuck is this like it's a killer little oh my god yeah i don't think it's like official cruise like maybe it's like a little like fairy thing like from port to port just kind of like across the bay or whatever but was like why the fuck is a mickey mouse killing everybody right or why did they have make that like winnie the pooh one like who's asking for this shit nobody oh i do love a good like horror comedy though when they just do something that's so ridiculous and funny you're just like oh yeah like you know what i watched that actually ended up being like semi-decent i mentioned it to you when we were in the corn maze the the clown in the cornfield oh yes was pretty good

Speaker: It was actually pretty good. i enjoyed it. Okay, good We talked about, yeah, maybe watching that after we got home, actually, but i don't think we ever found it Because I thought it was like an older one, but was it a new one? Clown? No, it's only like last year or the year before. Okay, okay. But yeah, I thought it was pretty good for like a more like recent one.

Speaker: we'll have to do like a yeah horror movie review episode on patreon or something because there's was some decent ones again this year yeah yeah the kills were pretty good and the clown was creepy nice yeah thought they did a decent job sweet All right, everybody. Happy spooky season. Happy to be back. Thank you for your patience. And we love you. Yeah, we'll see yeah next time.
