Speaker: You really think it's red onions out of all those ingredients? Yeah.
Speaker: Huh. Which one do you think it is? It's been bothering me the whole episode. it was stuck in your teeth, yeah, the whole episode. It's not the yogurt. I think we can agree. the It might be the granola and the yogurt. That was that was know what my my assumption would have been. stringy. It's stringy. Granola's not stringy.
Speaker: Well, dude, you didn't give me that pieces of information. You didn't give me those pieces of information. You just said that you had something stuck in your fucking stupid teeth. That's so mean. Nice, straight teeth. Why are you being so mean about It might be the chicken.
Speaker: Is it chicken breast, chicken thighs in your case? It could be chicken, yeah, because chicken can be stringy because of the muscle tendons and shit. you know yeah That could be it. You chicken thigh guy or a chicken breast?
Speaker: We did chicken thighs. Oh, no, we didn't do either. we actually What we do is we actually buy the we die buy a full chicken at Costco or yes or the grocery store. And then we eat the initial night of just some chicken with whatever it may be, like ah wedges or whatever. And then we use that chicken. We split it up.
Speaker: And then we use it in various ingredients, various things. So sometimes we make a chicken casserole. Sometimes we make quesadillas, et cetera. i Dude, I do a similar thing. Yeah, you like eat the chicken like the first night and then leftovers I'll make like a chicken salad or something.
Speaker: Like a chicken right chicken wrap. Like chicken ranch wrap. And then with the carcass, you make chicken stock. We didn't do that. You don't do that? Why? No, it's smart though.
Speaker: Smart. Dude, make it. It's easy. You don't even have to put in any vegetables. And then you can use that ah stock for like a risotto. Or like in your gravies. Right. Right.
Speaker: Yeah, that's fair. Or make a soup. Yeah, it's true. You could. Yeah. That's fair. Sweet. End of the episode then? Oh, yeah. Of course.
Speaker: Everybody knows this is the best way to start a podcast about film and TV. Talk about chicken in somebody's teeth for two minutes straight. All right, man. Let's do it. um This episode, we review the hit new Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Thunderbolts, asterisk.

Speaker: la la bla lao by bla la la la away
Speaker: be all
Speaker: Adrian, on the day we're recording this, the the estimated greatest of all time entertainment property in terms of sales has just been delayed. Grand Theft Auto 6. Oh, Grand...
Speaker: Grand Theft Auto 6, the sixth one of those. Actually, yeah there's plenty more. But yeah. Yeah. and ah That was a weird way for me to phrase that. But regardless of that, people are estimating that it's going to sell like gangbusters. But now it's delayed into next year, May 26, 2026, when it's supposed to come out in the fall of this year.
Speaker: And now it's ah it's not doing that anymore. It's not doing that, which is ah which is not that much of a mystery if you know Rockstar, the developer's history of delaying things incessantly. They like the delay, which is not bad.
Speaker: I don't mind the delays. I just find that there's a little bit of dishonesty on the side of the publisher here. I feel like there was some dishonesty. I feel like they knew that it was going to get delayed. How do you how do you delay it that much?
Speaker: it like It's like a year away. More than. At this point. Yeah. It's supposed to come out in the fall. How does that work? I don't think they know. I don't think they know. And I think it could get delayed next to next fall. It would be May 2020. Sorry. It would be like November 2026 instead. You think that? I guess we'll see.
Speaker: You think? ah i think I think it's possible, yeah. They delayed Red Dead Redemption 2, which is my favorite game of all time, twice. So I think it's possible. Fair I don't know if you have any thoughts on this.
Speaker: I don't think you're that excited for GTA. I'm excited. I think it changes the industry. Like Rockstar's games, they they push the industry. They push the envelope envelope forward each time. they release a game.
Speaker: Yeah, I mean, like, I'm definitely curious about it because I don't really care for, ah grant like, Grand Theft Auto games in general. Like, I played, you know, Vice City and San Andreas when I was a kid, killing killing prostitutes, and you're you know? Yeah. When I was a child. Of course, yeah. It's funny. So... The ripe age of six. Dude, I'm not... So, I'm not joking.
Speaker: I wasn't six because when did the PS2 come out? Like, 2004 or something? Three? One? 2006? one and six PS4. No. PS2, sorry. PS2. PS2, yeah. 2000 and... Ooh, I should know this.
Speaker: PS2 release date. Yeah, I think it is 2002, isn't it? 2000. 2000. Okay, so I would have been six. I don't know when Vice City came out.
Speaker: But anyways... The year Vice City came out, I remember I went to school. I was a little school boy. I think I was in grade four because I was walking home alone. By that point, my sister's already in high school.
Speaker: This is important to the story because I'm walking home alone and I get home on a nice spring day. Sun is shining. Birds are chirping outside, Simon. I walk into the house and my mom's like, oh, you should go downstairs.
Speaker: like oh, why? And I walked down those stairs in my old townhouse where I lived as a child, and I see my sister sitting on the other side of the basement, crisscross applesauce, PlayStation 2 controller in hand, ah playing Vice City.
Speaker: And I was like, whoa, that's crazy. And yeah, and I played a lot of Grand Theft Auto Vice City, murdered many, many of people. I never played the story. I was far too young to care about that. Hmm.
Speaker: But the PS2 is such a such a amazing console for my childhood because we had an N64 prior to that. and then we had the PS2. But that's what got me into like old PS1 games and then eventually into Kingdom Hearts, which which is good stuff.
Speaker: But Simon, I'm sorry that Grand Theft Auto has been delayed. You know what that gives you more time for? the hundreds of other games coming out this year. exactly like Exactly. Exactly. Is that actually what you're going to say? Yeah. I was going to, I was actually going say persona five cause I got my persona five shirt on, but, Oh, wow. Um, you could do that coming out this year though. It came out many moons ago.
Speaker: Yeah. So pre COVID. Yeah, there are lots of games coming out this year. There's lots of movies coming out this year. We are a film and TV podcast, so that's my segue. Yeah. but But yeah, I wonder if they'll ever make a Grand Theft Auto game.
Speaker: Like a movie, you mean? ah Sorry, a movie. What am I? yeah way I wonder if they'll ever make another Grand Theft Auto game also. Will it ever come out? That's the ongoing meme, I'm sure. But it is. But ah no, no, a movie. Exactly. Thank you for catching my flub.
Speaker: No worries, pal. No worries. um I mean, they could. i just don't. i don't know. I don't think there's much value in that. Because like Grand Theft Auto is just like a crime story set in...
Speaker: yeah america so it's like an anthology series too yeah yeah like so there's already movies that you could say oh this is like a grand theft auto movie in theory so i don't know i guess you could just brand it that way get some really good director that knows how to make a really good crime like action movie and then just say hey this is grand theft auto and make it not based on any of the games or nothing And it would work.
Speaker: It would sell no matter what because they would just milk the IP, the name recognition. The problem is what would would it work? Would it be good? Would it be art? Would it be like just extra content out there or would it be actually excellent?
Speaker: A Grand Theft Auto movie.
Speaker: That's what it would be called. You've got to add the A in front. yeah Next they're going to do a Roblox movie. you know Oh, I wouldn't be surprised. or It's only a matter... I still don't know what Roblox is, dude.
Speaker: I actually What do you mean? It's user-generated content. People go in and they make the content, and then you've never played a or look seen a single Roblox game? How? It's the Lego-looking freaks.
Speaker: and don't know I don't know. I don't watch any Roblox-related content. I played it a little bit. You did? Yeah, briefly. i like When I was working in retail, I was selling Chromebooks, and i so i ran like I ran it on a Chromebook.
Speaker: It's fine. it's not it's as It does not interest me at all. I am more interested in like professional... Game. Professionally developed games. Game.
Speaker: Professional game. Mm-hmm. Why say many word when one word do? Yeah. One word do do. Do that. Anyway. Yeah. So again, that's auto. We'll see.
Speaker: We'll see what happens. I don't know. There's lots of games this year. It's crazy. It's lots of movies this year. it's It's a lot. There's a lot of content. Like I shouldn't call content sucks, but there's a lot of stuff coming out this year, which is very exciting for me.
Speaker: hmm. I am very excited about. um But speaking of which, let's jump into some like a few quick bites of film and TV industry news here, Adrian. ah The first I'm going to talk about is the trailers that have come out this week. There's two that have are of specific note for me.
Speaker: There might be more that you might want to bring up, but I think these ones would might be the ones you would have brought up as well. The first is the Smashing Machine trailer. for the Smashing Machine movie with starring good old Dwayne, the rock Johnson and directed by Benny Safdie.
Speaker: So that's interesting. I don't know if you have any thoughts on that. Yeah. I mean, i'm I'm very curious how many water bottles the rock piston during the filming of this movie, but the, the, truth that don't you remember? We talked about this. Like he, he admitted to pissing in water bottles on set.
Speaker: On set. Oh, yeah, we did. We talked about it yeah years ago. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Do you think that's real? Yeah, I think he admitted it. It was like a... We we had this conversation not years ago, Simon. This was this was this was months ago.
Speaker: This was within this rebooted segment of our show. There's no way that's true. I not maybe promise you that. I maybe promise you that. You're not sure. I'm pretty confident, but I'm never sure about anything. I got a bad memory. It was the other 100 episodes.
Speaker: Maybe. Maybe, but at whatever. i This movie looked good. It's cool because like the makeup that they have on the rock is, is pretty impressive. Like, yeah, you can still kind of see him if you know it's him, but reality in reality, I think they, they did an amazing job that makeup department, at least in these trailer scenes, I'll watch, you know, something Benny Safdie does. Um, obviously, um,
Speaker: I mean, he's he's done quite a few things, but most notably, like he did Unca Chems, which we both really loved, which was the most anxiety-inducing movie of all time. So, yeah, I don't know. I'm curious about this. I don't really know anything about, you know, the guy that The Rock is playing based on like the early days of the UFC.
Speaker: You watch the UFC, don't you? I do. That's a recent revelation, Simon. Over the last year, I've been watching the u you United Fighting Committee. That's what it stands for.
Speaker: I don't think it is. But okay, it's probably close enough, to be honest. Okay, cool. Yeah, I'm interested in this. I honestly, seeing The Rock through it, I feel like his dialect has changed. He's he's done a solid job. I feel like he's vying for an Oscar here, you know?
Speaker: I mean, so was Adam Sandler for Uncut Gems in and beny Benny Safdie's other movie. And Sandler did not get nominated, which I think is still a crime.
Speaker: but i agree. And then he made Hubie Halloween, which is a masterpiece. He should have been nominated for Hubie Halloween at least. Wasn't the quote that Adam Sandler said, like, if I don't get nominated for Oscar, going to make the stupidest movie ever or something? Wasn't that what he said? Something along those lines. That rings I'm going make the movie ever.
Speaker: Something like that. Yeah, that rings a bell. There was that moment during the Oscars where Adam Sandler walked out. Do you think that he left and never came back? I feel like that's what it was just a bit. And he's never, you know what i's talking about? Like ah Conan was making fun of how he wasn't wearing the right outfit. Like he's not wearing a suit. And then, and then he just walked out. And I feel like he just left.
Speaker: I think that was part of, that was just a bit. And then he wasn't planning on staying for the Oscars. This year. Yeah. I mean, I wasn't in the crowd. Yeah. I don't remember seeing him again, but yeah, that'd be funny if you didn't commit to that, commit to the bit.
Speaker: But yeah, Smashing Machine. I'm, will I'm looking to watch it. I think that's a good, idea good idea. If you're interested, unless it's a rated as a 50% of Rotten Tomatoes, it is an A24 movie though as well, which is a good combination. Benny Safdie, A24.
Speaker: Looks good. Oh, it's Emily, Emily Blunt. It looks great. Oh yeah. Yeah. like They look like they're completely immersed in their roles. i like I don't know. The trailer looks cool. The other trailer that was ah of note this week, there isn't that many trailers this week. the last The last two weeks, I should say. The last episode we did, there were so many trailers. It was kind of ridiculous. And I'm not really sure what it coincided with because it just...
Speaker: so happened to be lots of trailers this week this by week there's basically two and the other trailers the weapons trailer zach crager's next movie director zach crager uh the director of barbarian yes this this trailer looks even more neat to me i i'm almost i i think i am i'm more interested in this i liked barbarian a lot much more than the zach crager produced companion movie um
Speaker: I feel like they were marketing that as like a barbarian like follow-up, weren't they? Yeah, they did. It was very... um Yeah, like the trailers were very intentional um yeah in that way.
Speaker: yeah The trailer was the worst part about that movie, um in my opinion. I know you disagree, but yeah, the trailers... Companion? Yeah, I feel like ruined a lot of what Companion was.
Speaker: i love yeah Yeah, it was false marketing. what What makes me excited about this, not only is it like a cool premise, but this trailer for this movie is really good. It's like, it's so interesting. it's like, what one classroom of children...
Speaker: at what is it 2 17 a.m all like left their house and ran away and just disappeared and right but not from yeah not from the class like it's just coincidentally that they go to this one teacher's class and so she's like on trial in the town yeah which is it's so mysterious you're right the trailer is really neat because they just don't really really reveal too much it sets the tone very well so yeah yeah i'm very curious about this and i umm I'm hoping this one's going to be good.
Speaker: Barbarian was really good because like if this is good, then he's two for two. And apparently his next movie is another Resident Evil reboot, which I'm very excited about. Yeah. However, I really loved Resident Evil. Welcome to Raccoon City.
Speaker: I think that's actually like a really good movie. It was fun. But yeah, I know you like it. Yeah, we saw it together. It was fun. was fun. was passable.
Speaker: It was passable. It was a good watch.
Speaker: they did the scene where the, where it's dark and then he's like shooting. Every time the gun goes off, you see a different zombie. Cause it's like, he's killing all the zombies in that dark hallway. Yeah. Is that a scene from the, from the game? Um, I don't know.
Speaker: I don't remember. I don't think so. Just cause you're saying the scene. I'd like is in the movie. Iconic. It was just iconic in the movie. Yeah. It was cool in the movie. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Actually, I did watch one more trailer, actually. There's that John Wick, John Wick Payne trailer. Did you see that?
Speaker: They're making a documentary about making the making of John Wick. I think just John Wick 1 because it had trouble getting made. They almost didn't make the movie until they got funding, I think, at the last second by Eva Longoria. I think it was, but she wasn't in the trailer.
Speaker: But they showed, the reason I'm thinking about this is because what was very video gamey in the last John Wick movie is that scene with the over the top, almost like, um was it Miami, Hotline Miami?
Speaker: Yeah. like but John Wick's like shooting that the fire bullets through the shotgun. it That's a crazy, that's a crazy scene. They had some really awesome choreography. That that movie, but that series is really cool.
Speaker: I'm curious to see if they actually make another scene. John Wick with Keanu. I don't know. Didn't they say that? Didn't they say John Wick 5 with Keanu? Why has Gant said that? that like That doesn't mean anything to me.
Speaker: Until Keanu Reeves and Chad Stahelski say it, I am not trusting that that's happening. that was very I was very skeptical when they kind of announced that. Because they announced that alongside the Donnie Yen directed. Spin-off.
Speaker: Spin-off. so Sorry, did you want to say anything about weapons? i I completely derailed No, no, no. I was going to say theres there's another movie trailer that came out. I don't think we talked about this a couple weeks ago. ah Predator Badlands.
Speaker: It's the oh yeah a new Predator movie coming out in September, is it? We probably just didn't talk about it the last episode, though. Yeah. I don't remember, man. but I feel like it was within the last two weeks.
Speaker: It does look pretty cool, too. That was mysterious as well, actually. Speaking of mysterious trailers, not revealing too much. I feel like it didn't reveal... too much either. No, it's really cool. So it's, it's directed by Dan Trachtenberg.
Speaker: So this is November 7th. Sorry. That's when the release date and Dan, Dan, I'm on a first name basis with him. He directed Prey, which was like a straight to streaming movie, which was fantastic. Really great.
Speaker: Like predator, movie just really great movie set in the predator universe takes place like back in like early, like native America times, like 1800, late eighteen hundreds early nineteen hundreds if i recall correctly.
Speaker: was like Native American tribes and like the French are coming over. Maybe it's even longer than that. I don't know my history. Yeah. Very good movie. And he's coming back with this one, which seems to be set kind of ah in the future, maybe. And it's on like a like it.
Speaker: it What it seems to be is that it's a ah predator, like a like a predator youth. um And according to the write up, he like is in one final test or whatever because he's been exiled from his tribe.
Speaker: But the cool part about this trailer is there is a scene with, um is it um Elle Fanning? I was like, it's not Dakota Fanning, it's Elle Fanning. She's in this trailer.
Speaker: And there's a scene where her eyes turn white. And there's ws in it And people are surmising that it's Wayland Corp from the Alien movies.
Speaker: So I think they're going to try to connect these two universes. It's already been connected in the past with Alien vs. Predator and the other one, which is also Alien vs. Predator with something else to it.
Speaker: Never watched those. But I think they're now trying to kind of directly connect them. ah Hopefully in a more cohesive way. Yeah, fingers crossed. Because if those other movies weren't reviewed too well. I have seen one of them.
Speaker: I don't remember which one. yeah years ago. But I didn't love it. I'll say that. Yeah, that's interesting. it's interesting yeah you're following away In this case, you're following the Predator's point of view?
Speaker: I think so. yeah Oh, that I didn't understand from the trailer. I must not have been paying attention. Yeah, I think i think that's that's going to be the kind of the premise. Maybe you're going be following a human as well.
Speaker: um Are they going to befriend each other? I think so. It's like a Romeo and Juliet story or something. Yeah, maybe it's possible. But what's really cool, too, is there's another Predator movie coming out.
Speaker: Also direct directed by Dan Trachtenberg slightly earlier. I think that's the one coming out in September and it's called Predator Killer of Killers. And it's a um animated movie with, I think, like an anthology story, like three anthologies ah with a Viking raider, a ninja in feudal Japan and a World War Two pilot.
Speaker: Huh? So that's really cool. That one I think is going straight to Hulu. um Really great animation style as well. Kind of reminds me of Arkane's animation style from Netflix, like Arkane League Legends show.
Speaker: Right. On Netflix. Looks really, really good. So just wanted to point out those two. I'm not a huge like Predator fan. I liked Predator. I liked Predators. I liked Prey, haven't watched the other ones.
Speaker: Gotcha. Wait, there was a Predators? They also did the plural, like aliens? Yeah. So it's Predator, Predator 2, and then Predators starring Adrian Brody, Oscar-nominated actor, who has the longest speech in history.
Speaker: ah Oscar winning. He won. Oh, yeah. He won. He won. He won. he won What do you mean? know yeah. He was on stage doing the speech because he won, obviously. his The nominees don't go up and have a speech.
Speaker: and the Imagine the Oscar ceremony of all the nominees going up. Like, I would love to win this award. i thank my family for my nominee ah nomination.
Speaker: Thanks to the ah Academy of Arts and Sciences. Yeah. and then And then they announce it. That would be like show. Hmm.
Speaker: Okay. All right, buddy. We're going move on now to a so a second piece of Quick Bytes news. ah Ted Sarandos was talking to editor-in-chief of Time Magazine, Sam Jacobs.
Speaker: And he was talking about how Netflix potentially saved Hollywood.
Speaker: Anyway, um he specifically said, so Sam Jacobs said, he asked, when creators stand up on stage at the Oscars and say that we need to make movies for theaters, he's like, that's just an outmoded idea, he was asking.
Speaker: And then Sarando said, I believe it's an outmoded idea for most people, not for everybody. But then he went on to say, what is the consumer trying to tell us? That we'd like to watch movies at home. Thank you.
Speaker: I watched this interview and I got a good pretty good handle on on the interview. I just wondered if you had any thought on it because it's an interesting thing. Obviously, Netflix is kind of killing theaters. It's sort of in ah in ah in a roundabout way. not All the streaming services are doing it, but Netflix is the market leader basically.
Speaker: And it seems like it's partly to blame for theaters having problems because they don't like respecting that good old... um The window, the theatrical release window. They don't like it.
Speaker: They don't follow it. So it's kind of interesting. I'm just curious if you have any thoughts on it before we go on. Yeah, it's interesting because I feel like, yeah if it wasn't for Netflix...
Speaker: I don't think all the other big studios would obviously come out with a streaming service and then kind of bring their movies that were typically theatrical releases on a streaming far quicker.
Speaker: But I don't think like when Netflix started and when they were coming out with movies, I can't, I don't think they were bringing any of their movies to theaters. Initially. They eventually started doing it for the more are artsy movies like Marriage Story and stuff like that and um Martin Scorsese movie with Robert De Niro.
Speaker: The the irish Irishman? Yeah. Or Killers of the Flower Moon. That one too. Wait, Killers of the Flower Moon? That's Apple, isn't it? Oh shit. Yeah, it was Apple. He did two streaming services.
Speaker: Yeah, good call. So like, i don't necessarily think Netflix is solely to blame. I think... they kind of set the tone. But at the end of the day, I think like Warner brothers did awful stuff to the theater, especially during the COVID run, kind of releasing Dune both in, uh, on streaming and in theaters at the same time. Same with like the suicide squad and stuff like that.
Speaker: And then it it started kind of like a, like a snowball rolling down on a hill, getting bigger and bigger and kind of, now there are movies that are like released in theaters and then on streaming services within like a week or two.
Speaker: um which is brutal. And I think Warner Brothers was the first studio to really like pull that trigger. Because I think that movie dropped. Netflix is clearly the first one to do it.
Speaker: They didn't do it at all. They just ignore the, they don't do a theatrical release window. No, what I'm saying is that they never really did. Like, Netflix never did. So they're the only ones true themselves. But Warner Brothers Yeah, like, Warner Brothers always released their movies in theaters, and they were the first ones to kind Disney.
Speaker: Disney Plus. Oh, was it Disney? do it Oh, yeah, we did talk a lot of shit. Yeah. Yeah, and then they did Premium Plus, or whatever the heck they called it, and then tried to charge you money to rent a movie...
Speaker: inside their streaming service you were already paying for which is absurdly egregious but then they stopped doing that no they don't do it not that i know of i haven't seen that since bob chapik left since bob iger returned yeah so i don't know yeah you might be right maybe it was i don't think it was warner though because i think mulan was one of the first ones a lot of movies got delayed out of there because they out of that period because of covid mm-hmm But yeah youre yeah, it's true. But then Wonder Brothers course corrected, right? They've kind of, they it went back to the theatrical release model pretty much. It just got shortened by a massive amount.
Speaker: Yeah. What movies are coming out within two weeks though? Nothing really. except Drop. movies Drop came out like two weeks ago, and it's and you can already rent or buy it digitally. Who's the developer?
Speaker: I want to say Universal, but I might be lying here. Universal. What's going on here? It was... Damn. Didn't know that.
Speaker: It's already on streaming. It's pretty bad. It's pretty bad, buddy. ah you got ah You got a hard line on this? You see it?
Speaker: What is it called? I keep on typing publisher because you said you publisher. It is universal. Okay, I was right. It's a production company, I guess. Yeah.
Speaker: Okay, yeah, i thought it was universal. yeah It's already yeah even worse. How could that be? What streaming service it is ah is it on then? i don't think it's on a streaming service. I think you can just buy it. can just buy digitally.
Speaker: Oh, you can buy it. Yeah. Yeah, but okay. That's been the case for a long time though because you can rent the game. we you You can, wait, you can buy it completely you can rent it? Let's see. I'm going to try. Because the renting thing has been been since pretty much since that Disney Plus situation with Mulan.
Speaker: You can rent it, but it's $25 or buy it for $30. So it's that. So you can buy it now. Yeah, that's kind of been happening, I guess. It's kind of expensive, to be fair. I don't know if you would rather do that or go see it in theaters.
Speaker: But that's what Sarandos is talking about, basically. So this is the interesting thing about what Ted Sarandos is saying. he's He's arguing that the business is not healthy without us. And that the idea is that we put we we make the movie industry healthy. The theater industry, he doesn't care about, although he likes going to theaters.
Speaker: So if the the theatrical industry fails, he doesn't care that much as long as the movie business is strong. That's basically what he's going for. This is like, it strikes me as a shareholder situation though.
Speaker: Because creators want, typically want their films in theaters. Like really prominent creators. Like a Ryan Coogler for Sinners as an example. Or Christopher Nolan. Or ah strangely not Martin Scorsese. Which is the most befuddling one. Because I swear, i swear I saw Scorsese say something about this before.
Speaker: Did he not say that he doesn't want his movies to be viewed on a phone? I thought he was one of the people. But I guess I'm wrong. Even David Fincher, who I thought was a purist, he's putting a lot of his movies on Netflix. He's like he's got this like long deal with Netflix.
Speaker: It's kind of an interesting situation. I'm kind of shocked. and But you think about like how... So, Anora won Best Picture, and then Sean Baker was on stage, right but right beside Quentin Tarantino.
Speaker: And he's like, oh, you know put your stuff in theaters. And so basically, that's what Ted Sarandos is saying is an outmoded idea. like The theater theatrical experience is just not as important to him as...
Speaker: as to others. But it's interesting because it's like a chicken and the egg issue. Netflix is causing the problem, but they're also fixing it simultaneously, but they're causing it. like in in Understandably, though, we you brought up Warner Brothers.
Speaker: They did it for a good reason. They weren't going to make any money. No one's going to go to a theater during COVID. It's actually a health risk. it's like yeah That's a super spreader event but at the time.
Speaker: So it kind of made sense But it doesn't in the long term. But Netflix believes it always makes sense. And that's kind of the trick. And I think that's why Sarandas was saying that they saved Hollywood.
Speaker: But I would argue that it was Tom Cruise's Top Gun Maverick and Spider-Man No Way Home. That's what I would say. In terms of if it fixed both issues. They sold millions of tickets. And then they also...
Speaker: they they also preserved the theatrical experience while selling the movie as well. So they did both. Anyway. so Anything else that?
Speaker: No. like think I think that's good. I thought I lost you for a second. joe Yeah, it was Tom Cruise's Top Gun Maverick. What a good movie. Joseph Kaczynski, that's the director. He's coming out with that F1 movie.
Speaker: but Yeah, you want to see that? It looks pretty good. don't really care about Formula One. Okay. Sure. But I'll watch it. If it's reviewed well, I'll watch it.
Speaker: I'm sure it's going to be reviewed. Maverick was good, dude. It was great, dude. Did you watch that movie? I can't remember. oh yeah. Yeah. In theaters. Great. Yeah. Great movie. I think I saw that one in D-Box, actually.
Speaker: the the The Ultra AVX like seats that moved. Like, oh, wow. um I'm really moving. Like, I'm in... Top Gun Maverick. F-150. That's meant to say. What is the name of the plane? It's not the truck name.
Speaker: i don't know. You I'm talking about? I think, no. don't know the name. I don't know the name of the of the plane, dude. You think it's also the, okay. I don't think it's F-150. I wouldn't have said something so stupid. I would have said like the It's funny. I thanked you earlier for saving me, but we haven't saved each other very much. F-35? Oh, it is an F number.
Speaker: F-16. F-16 was the name I was looking for. Okay, whatever. Let's move on. I've saved you more than you've saved me, to be fair. I've saved you more than you've saved me.
Speaker: It's debatable. All right. Well, number three on this quick bite news segment here is is this is a segue onto theaters are doing really What what are you doing? I'm cracking open a cold one. It's a Friday. Turn away from the mic before you do that.
Speaker: All right. ah Ryan Coogler's Sinners is doing really well in the box office. So it's it's kind of a fun thing to compare because we just had Sarando say, we don't need theatrical releases. Sinners is exclusively the theatrical release.
Speaker: It's doing really well. It's an IMAX. It's sold over $180 million dollars worth of tickets at the box office. And it's only has a, well, it's actually a pretty big budget. It's a reasonable budget, not a Marvel-sized budget, but it's a $90 million dollars budget to produce.
Speaker: Which is cool because they've doubled it, which is likely covers their costs at the very least if they're including like marketing budget. So yeah, huge success. Also, and we're going to but talk about this a little bit later, but Thunderbolts, the the opening we're we're recording this on the opening day for Thunderbolts, but we saw it on the preview screening the day before.
Speaker: And that sold $11 million dollars worth of tickets on the Thursday before the opening on May 2nd. And this is that good? Pretty good. I think they estimated that they would make overall. So I think previews, I'm fairly certain it always and for a box office results. They always include the previews in the opening day.
Speaker: ah Typically they just combine them together. So for previews, I think it's pretty solid. And then they, they expected, I think it was $70 million dollars on opening. Was it opening day or opening weekend?
Speaker: ah Let me double check that. But regardless of that, um it was It was considered, I think, a success. Definitely Sinners it was considered a success. But yeah, do you have any thoughts on that? on On the Sinners thing? I think that's great. I'm glad that um it's doing well in theaters. It's a fantastic movie.
Speaker: We gave a fairly in-depth review two weeks ago, I think. Yeah. On it. yeah two weeks Last episode. Episode 108. 108. And yeah, I genuinely love this movie. So it's ah it's nice when ah an original movie.
Speaker: Does incredibly well in the theater, you know, it's not one of these. All they're doing is making remakes, Simon. All they're doing is making superhero movies. They just need to make more of these sinners movies.
Speaker: Yeah. and And it will do well. That's how it works. um I'm being facetious, obviously, but it is really cool, like how well it's doing. um yeah Yeah, and I mean, it's obvious to me, but not obvious potentially to any listeners just tuning in. We don't believe that at all. We saw three really wholly original movies in the last like month, Black Bag, Sinners and Warfare, all of which are we both considered excellent.
Speaker: And they're just that's a stupid idea. That's an outmoded idea. it's just a dumb idea people say it all the time though and whenever you look in the comment sections for a trailer for certain movies they're like oh finally a movie that's original you notice this right it bothers me i don't know if it bothers you as much as it bothers me but it definitely bothers me anyway i interrupted you what were he saying i don't remember but i'm glad that this is the case so you please continue That's it. That's all I had to say. it What do you mean?
Speaker: I just ill threw it back to you. i threw the ball back to you you're threw it up my face. Yeah. Thanks a lot. We're playing tennis. Yeah. But I tennised it in your face.
Speaker: Sure. Anyway, Thunderbolt was supposed to make for the opening weekend $70 million. dollars So it's already $11.5 million for the first day out of four. It's not bad. That's good.
Speaker: It's not bad. Our theater, because we watched this movie this week, we're going to talk about it. Our theater wasn't that packed. It was like more than half of the theater was empty.
Speaker: And it was the only showing at the AVX in Guelph, Ontario. So on an anecdotal level, Ted Sarandos is correct. Yeah.
Speaker: That's the problem. He's kind of right. The problem is as though he's he's influencing this. People watching movies at home. Look, I have a really nice home theater setup. i I build it out and i'm'm I'm um'm actually looking for for a a new couch potentially to like make it even better.
Speaker: i might not do it, but we'll see. What kind of couch are you looking for? um Like a couch with like reclining the reclining seats. I don't know. yeah It has to be inexpensive. I'm not going to spend an arm and a leg, but I have a ah TV setup where I've moved my TV to an optimal distance based on the science of TVs, like how close you should be to a 4k TV based on the size for the optimal cinema distance.
Speaker: And that's something that I really take my time doing. I don't know. I'm obsessed with things. I got to stop being so obsessive, but regardless of that, this is something I'm working on ever so slowly.
Speaker: um But I do have a pretty good sound system as well. And so for me, it can be a pretty good experience watching a Netflix movie that's really well optimized for that setting. And I do appreciate that Netflix has...
Speaker: has an option in their top tier that gives you 4K and Dolby Atmos as an example. But let me just say this about Netflix. The other streaming services, including the second biggest one, which is Disney Plus, have an option. They just give you Dolby Atmos and they give you 4K in all of their tiers.
Speaker: So why is it that Netflix, who is claiming that they're this savior of movies, doesn't have that in all of their tiers? You have to pay for 25, in Canada, $25 month.
Speaker: So that that is something I'm critical on consistently about Netflix. And Apple TV Plus is the same way. like if Actually, well, they only have one tier, I guess, Apple TV Plus, right? I think so, yeah. Yeah, it's just $13. Yeah, but Disney Plus has multiple. And from my understanding, those tiers are the same quality for all.
Speaker: Most of the streaming services have the same quality for all in Canada at the very least. I'm pretty sure Amazon Prime is the same way, except it gives you ads in the lower tiers. They give you the same quality, but and you get Atmos and all that stuff, Atmos and 4K versus 1080p and just 5.1 digital, like Dolby Digital.
Speaker: So that's actually, I find that a little bit ridiculous. Like you want us to pay top dollar, and but you don't want to give, it's, that's a dumb, that's a bit of a dumb argument. I would rather that they give other things within their tiers, like ads versus no ads and things like that versus I don't know if that bothers you at all.
Speaker: But for me, the home theater setup works, but I don't pay for Netflix every month because it's just too expensive. Mm-hmm. Doesn't Crave um work in a similar way?
Speaker: Like their Crave Basic, and then they got their Crave Standard, and then their Crave Noads. And I think Crave Basic is HD. It's not like... does Well, do they even bare they barely even offer 4K.
Speaker: Crave is like the most primitive one. Crave is a very Canadian... streaming service so they're only in one nation so that's probably why yeah i'm pretty sure craves tears are the same quality for each i'm fairly certain yeah oh no you're right no you're correct no no no you're not right crave basic gives you sorry crave basic gives you two people 1080p that's correct okay standard and premium are the same quality oh So that that's the advantage.
Speaker: But Netflix doesn't give you anything unless you're at the very top. They give you 1080p all the way to the four. That's really dumb, in my opinion. that That's stupid. why Why is that? like What are they trying to do?
Speaker: like To me, on a creator's perspective, if I'm a creator, let's say I'm David Fincher, and I'm going to put my movie on Netflix. I don't want anyone watching that movie in less than what I provided, Netflix.
Speaker: And it's tough to... We can't completely... Determine that, obviously. That's why the theater experience for a lot of creators like Christopher Nolan is very important because he sets the parameters. There's less variability between theaters than there is between people's houses where they're watching on an iPad or they're watching on an iPhone or they're watching on the tiniest little...
Speaker: iPod touch or some nonsense. And so that's that's part of it. So if i was if I was Netflix saying i'm we're good for creators, the solution is also to give the same quality across all tiers to be as is open and better for creators as possible. That's kind of my thought process. But yeah, you're right you're in some capacity. Yes, you were half right. I'll give it that to you. Sorry.
Speaker: I don't want to say you're wrong. and Wow. You're wrong. Thanks, man. Yeah, you're right. Because they they do split it up a little bit, but at least they give it like Crave Basic versus Crave Standard. It's just, yeah.
Speaker: I don't know what, gro Crave Premium adds like extra Crave content, I guess. Yeah. They all kind of separate their their tears differently.
Speaker: But hey, I don't like it. All right. Anything else you to No, no, no. We're good. We're good. Okay, cool. Let's get into what we've been watching this week, this bi-week.
Speaker: Adrian, I'll throw it to you first. I don't have too much that i watched on my own. i' have a couple things, but I'll give it to you. but do What did you watch? this bi-week? Honestly, man, like, not much, like, other than what I've already been watching.
Speaker: Like, i'm I'm still watching the OC. I'm almost done season three with my fiancé. Right. Um... What else? I've been watching the studio week to week. Fantastic.
Speaker: Really phenomenal. That's the Apple TV Plus show. That's awesome. Made by seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. It's it's phenomenal. So I didn't know this. I don't know how I didn't know this. I watched the first episode, but I didn't i don't know why I didn't notice this. Usually I'm really tuned into this like specifically. Mm-hmm.
Speaker: Seth Rogen and Kevin Colbert like directed, but I think every episode or almost every episode. I didn't know they directed them. i I know that they're writers. Typically, I don't know if they've ever directed anything substantial before.
Speaker: um I don't know off the top of my head, but like, yeah, they have their fingers in a lot of pies as they say, and like create a lot of stuff and write a lot of stuff. And they'll like Seth Rogen will act in a lot of things.
Speaker: Yeah, I don't know if they specifically direct. I feel like Evan Goldberg does direct more. um but yeah, again, I'm just kind of going off the top of my head there.
Speaker: No, I'm just wrong. They've directed a lot of comedies over the time. This is the end, as an example. They did the interview as well. I just didn't realize that, I guess. I don't know how. I just thought they were were the creators and showrunners for a lot of things. Like they were heavily involved in Preacher, at least in the beginning.
Speaker: No, they directed quite a few things. I just don't know why I didn't know that. I'm foolish. but Yeah, you are. You are foolish. But yeah, that's really cool because they did that obviously that Warner episode, which I'm on the verge of watching. I just kind of held off because it's week to week and I'm trying to catch up on everything everything else.
Speaker: Too many things simultaneously. Yeah. Yeah. But it's it's really good stuff. I'm i'm loving it. I do need to watch Andor. I just haven't found the time to sit down and watch season two yet.
Speaker: And um I know you season five came out. Me? Yeah, you. Yeah, you, Simon. And you came on Netflix. I'm at least on season 30, at least.
Speaker: Yeah. Yeah. Um, and I was going to start watching that kind of on my downtime, but I gave the pitch of the show to my fiance. We need something after the OC.
Speaker: I gave her the pitch and, uh, she was like, that's kind of sounds interesting. So we might start watching you.
Speaker: Me? Yeah, you, Simon. You're pointing at me, so I guess I'll queue up. um So yeah, we might we might watch the Netflix series you um on Netflix um together after the OC, and then we'll we'll watch the final season again.
Speaker: Sounds good. Sounds good. Yeah, I feel like, I don't know when I'm going to get to you, to be honest. Me? that's right. I don't know. That's a question because I've got so much going on on the fly here.
Speaker: But yeah. i'm I'm currently watching Shogun still while I play Assassin's Creed Shadows for the you know the cohesion. Mm-hmm.
Speaker: ah and con in conjunction conjunction with each other. I'm also watching Mythic Quest now as well, which I actually like way more than I remember season three being, which is interesting. And I and i feel like I threw a lot of shade at this show and I feel bad about it because honestly, i don't I don't dislike it. There's actually a lot of episodes like the the Danny Pudi's Brad show like the poker episode I thought was great. there's the There's like a murder mystery episode I thought was great.
Speaker: I don't know. I'm kind of liking this season, actually. It's it's okay. <unk> It's pretty good. And it makes sense because it's like 100% Rotten Tomatoes. So I was like, when I looked at the score, I'm like, maybe I should like this.
Speaker: And then it got canceled, which is sad. and don't know if we started watching it just before it got canceled or right after because they they obviously were retuning the last episode. two did they Did they change it yet? I think they might have already changed it.
Speaker: Okay. Didn't they? i don't know. It's a good question. But now that you asked the question. you to look it up for me? I guess so. Thanks, man. I mean, someone's got to do it, I guess. Mythic Quest final episode.
Speaker: Question? Updated final episode when? Somebody on Reddit asked without a question mark. It's set to release on Friday, Friday, Friday, friday April eighteenth Oh, okay.
Speaker: Friday, April 18th. That is past because today is May 2nd. so Oh, okay. that Dude, today after April 18th of the same year. You're right. I'm a walking calendar.
Speaker: Look at you, man. Yeah. Anyway, the other thing was I'm watching some of the quests I'm kind of liking actually quite a bit. And then the other show I'm watching is Andor, but season one again, because the last time I watched it was in 2022. And I want to kind of go through it again. And man, what a good show. i can't even believe it. and I watched the first three episodes of that first arc.
Speaker: It's so cohesive. And it's so like it works so well together in the way they do these like three episode arcrks And I also just love Nicholas Patel's music. I think the score is brilliant.
Speaker: I don't know. I don't know. This show is so good. Just as a show. Just as a show. Regardless of what being Star Wars or not, it's very good. I recommend it to almost everyone. I don't care if you don't like Star Wars.
Speaker: It's a great drama. It is a little slow, though. I will say that was one of the things I always pointed out. To anyone I recommended it to, just you have to get past the you have to get to episode two. Because I think the first three episodes... Oh, right. We talked about this. I think they released them in threes, right?
Speaker: Yeah, they did. They're releasing them threes But it's smart it was a smart move in the way that that show is done. Because that first episode, I feel like, is kind of captivating. But it's kind it ends in such a strange way.
Speaker: and oh ever I've seen it two or three times now, and the third time, is i feel the same way. i'm like It ends in such an abrupt way. It's badass. There's like these walking shots where they just like play Nicholas Patel's music.
Speaker: The end of episode three in particular, they have like this montage where they go to all the different characters, and they got Nicholas Patel's music. Again, the music, it just if they didn't have that guy doing the score, i don't know if it would be as great of a show. is it It's great in every way, I feel like, most ways, but his score is...
Speaker: It's truly brilliant. I think it's amazing. Anyway, I'm loving Andor. But yeah, yeah, that's my, that's my, what I've been watching. Adrian, The Last of Us on HBO, season two, episode three.
Speaker: Our review starts now. What, what did you think? What'd you think of that, of that episode? Episode three. Yeah, I mean, you know, it's it's dealing with the aftermath of episode two. Some pretty big stuff happened. um And I think the way this episode played out, um I liked some of it and then I kind of didn't love Some of it either, which I'm happy to dive into a little bit more. I think, again, the scenes that follow the video game to a T continue to be the best scenes of the TV show of this season of the TV show. Unlike where I felt with the first season, everything they deviated whenever they deviated from from the game that that was the best part.
Speaker: um But again, and this was an emotional episode, you know, I got tears in my eyes watching it kind of play. um And I thought the pacing of it was pretty great. It felt like a setup episode, and I'm excited to see kind of how the rest of this story is going to unfold and kind of the changes that they might be making.
Speaker: um And I really want to hammer home the point, the casting. is phenomenal. I can't, I can't, you know, hammer that point home enough. I think the casting of this show is brilliant. I think some of the new characters that they introduce for the show, Gail specifically played by Catherine O'Hara is a delight.
Speaker: um There's a lot of good in this show, but again, there's, there's enough keeping me back ah from actually being in love with it. Like I loved the first season. um What did you think about this episode, my friend?
Speaker: I thought it was good. It's good. um i think that there was a lot of excellent imagery on the cinematography side. I think they did a great job there. i do agree with you. It's like a recovery episode from the like the big splash of episode two, for sure.
Speaker: And this is it feels like a world building type exercise. ah which is cool. And the the characters have a lot of great chemistry with each other and they feel real. There's ah there's an element of them feeling real. the The relationships feel real between the characters, which I particularly love.
Speaker: I think that Gabriel Luna is is consistently a standout for me. I don't know what it is. He's got like a, when he's not speaking, he's got like, he emotes very, very well.
Speaker: And every scene he's in, I'm kind of, I'm captivated. i feel like he's really great. And yeah it's a yeah, it was an emotional episode. I thought it was was solid.
Speaker: Not a lot we can say again as as the season goes on. We have less and less we can say ah because it would it kind of could potentially go into spoilers. so But but yeah it's ah no yeah, it's good. It was it was good.
Speaker: I liked it. I liked it. i have I have a lot to say on the spoilers side of things. But yeah. but yeah Anything else you want to add? No. No, I think I mean, I guess if if people listen to my last week's episode um and my opinions on last week's episode, I've honestly actually soured on it more.
Speaker: I'm actually more negative on it than I was last week. So you didn't like episode two even more than. Yeah, even more than I than I initially stated. um OK. And yeah, like I think I even mentioned it last week that it might be my least favorite episode of the season. It still is. um But yeah, like the more I've thought about it, the less I like.
Speaker: And yeah, this episode, I think, is a a better episode. um I liked it more. um But again, there's other things that that are holding me back. So yeah, I'm excited to dive into this a little bit more with you. I'm curious to hear your criticisms of the episode because you've been pretty hot on this season um compared to me.
Speaker: Yes, this episode, just to note, I guess, is directed by Peter Hoare, who directed some episodes of Doctor Who. He's a little bit lesser known from the other directors we've had. And this one was also written by written by Craig Mazin as well, just like the last two.
Speaker: So Craig Mazin writes basically... the first five episodes, unless the source here is wrong. um But actually, interestingly, the next episode, if I'm not mistaken, see where, yeah, that's interesting. It's Kate Heron, who I'm pretty sure is the director for, thought she was a Loki director. Am I wrong?
Speaker: I don't know. to it When we get there. Yeah, yeah, yeah. She's the yeah she's the executive producer and director of the Loki series, the first season. That's kind of cool. But yeah, Peter Hoare, a little bit lesser known, but he did Doctor Who and and a bunch of other things.
Speaker: It's interesting. now Okay. she says oh chris Sorry about that. sort Whacked my microphone. Apologies. All right. Adrian, let's take a closer look at season two.
Speaker: Episode four of The Last of Us on HBO. What are your high-level thoughts, your spoiler-free thoughts, Adrian? Yes, Simon. My spoiler-free thoughts of this episode of The Last of Us season two is I think this is actually the first genuinely great episode of the season.
Speaker: I think from the pacing to the performances of the main cast, to just everything surrounding this episode was brilliant.
Speaker: It expanded on lore that from from the video game. Kept fairly faithful to the video game, apart from a couple of things which we can talk about.
Speaker: um But yeah, as a whole, i I love this episode, actually. This is my favorite episode of the season by far. um I don't even think it's it's close. And yeah, I really i really, really like this one.
Speaker: what What did you think, Simon? ah It's a mixed bag for me. it it's It's good. I like it. I like it. It's similar to the last episode in that I have some some gripes with various elements, but i I do like the way it begins.
Speaker: I think that that's really great. I thought that that's awesome. I thought that the acting and the the choices of of casting were really neat in various points in the episode. um There's some really good moments There's some good moments of kind of a calm in the pacing as well in the way that it's done in that they don't, they kind of spread it out and they don't rush certain elements of the episode, which I appreciate.
Speaker: This is ah an episode directed by Kate Herron, who's the director of Loki season one and specifically. And this is also written by Craig Mazin. He wrote the last episode. few I will also say, and this is important, um i yeah I disrespected Peter Hoare, the director of episode three of season two, because I said, oh, I don't know what he's done. a lesser known director. He's not directed that much that I know of. That's completely false. He directed season one, episode three of The Last of Us. So what a stupid thing.
Speaker: So he directed Long, Long Time, which is my favorite episode of The Last of Us. so I just wanted to set the record straight going back to the last ah week for a brief moment but other than that um yeah yeah I thought it was good i just um there's some elements of the the writing that I don't like here and I feel like it's This is, it's funny, you didn't like that writing in the beginning of the season, but there's parts here that I don't love carrying forward from last episode into this one that I'm not a huge fan of. But I like the idea of the way that they're fleshing out the background of this world in this episode. That's the best part of it.
Speaker: And I think that they once again nailed the, some of the anxiety inducing moments earlier the the tone of the game that you kind of get when you're playing the last of us part two, you kind of, they nailed that in some key sequences here, which I thought was great as well. But yeah, I'll throw it back to you. Sorry.
Speaker: spoke for a bit of time there. No, man. Uh, yeah. Like I, I agree with the the positive statements you're making there. I'm curious about diving into like what you didn't like and what aspects of the writing, uh, that you don't think were, you know, um,
Speaker: Fantastic. ah Yeah, for me, I thought the pacing in this episode was very well balanced. There's a lot of moments of calm with, again, these like high anxiety inducing moments that felt, again, like you were playing a video game at times, which is very cool.
Speaker: They were able to replicate that. um I think, yeah, for me, visual level as well in this episode, brilliant. The set piece designs, like the the set pieces, top tier.
Speaker: It like yeah ripped straight from the game. um I think there was a lot of love and care put into this episode. not Not to detract from the other episodes. I kind of feel bad saying that because I i think there's love and care put into all of these episodes.
Speaker: i And I think... You know the intention is there a lot of the time, but I think this is the first episode for me this season where the intention actually hit the mark. um And yeah, again, I really love this episode. So I'm excited to kind of dive into more specific moments um with you and and see where we might differ.
Speaker: Okay, sounds good. All right, let's move on. Let's move on. Oh, actually, before we move on, I just want to say actually, just to set the record straight, I largely do like this episode.
Speaker: And the way I score things typically, I don't know how you do exactly necessarily, but the way I score things out of five for the scores aspect, although my scores differ and change constantly in Letterboxd as an example, because like as I watch better movies, again, we've talked about that before, but on ah On a whole, if I'm scoring something over like a three or above, I liked it.
Speaker: I thought it was good. yeah And just every episode of this season and last season has been hovering around that four mark pretty much. like i but Like I don't think there's very many episodes that I can't say are great.
Speaker: I think they'rere they've been largely good. And this one's good as well. I do like it. So just want to say that before we kind of move on. But yeah, moving on then. Let's move on now is to the old the old movie we watched that's new, ah Thunderbolts, asterisk, which we saw in and theaters yesterday, as of the time we were recording this. We just mentioned that.
Speaker: So Thunderbolts, Adrian, what did you think of the new Marvel Cinematic Universe movie following a misfit band of characters, including...
Speaker: John Walker played by Wyatt Russell. We got Hannah John Common played by, oh, sorry, playing Ghost. Common? I believe feel like it's Cayman. Pretty sure it's Common.
Speaker: You look it up. And then... the And then yeah it's ah Florence Pugh's character, Yelena Belova. And then Alexi Red Guardian, dude. what I don't know Alexi's last name, but David Harbour in it as well, which is excellent. And of course, Sebastian Stan playing Bucky Barnes, a.k.a.
Speaker: Winter Soldier. They all come together and they're going to potentially save the world. What did you think of this of this film?
Speaker: Hannah John Kamen. What's up? What's up? I don't think that's correct. Shout out to me. don't think right. Shout out to me. Sorry, are you trusting Google? Yeah. Okay. They never get anything wrong, Simon.
Speaker: But no, I thought this movie was really good, man. I thought it was, I would go as far as to say that this movie was great. It is, um yeah, just following this ragtag group of people.
Speaker: Shouldn't be getting along, but somehow they work well together. Not exactly, but it it is, it's it's a unique Marvel movie. I feel like it doesn't really follow any typical Marvel formula.
Speaker: It feels like it takes place in the universe and fits in very well without relying on everything else that is happening before it or after it or around it.
Speaker: um i I thought it was really good. A little bit. and Yeah, but least all the characters are from literally something else. None of them are introduced except for one guy. Pretty much.
Speaker: Yeah, yeah, I guess so. But you know what I mean? Like you can go into this and just kind of enjoy it for what it is, is my point. um I think it's, yeah, well shot, well directed. um I think the cast is...
Speaker: really great and they have great chemistry. I love like John Walker as a character. i think Wyatt Russell plays him incredibly well. Florence Pugh is a ah delight. Like she's amazing in everything she's in. And I really like watching her in this.
Speaker: um And David Harbour is genuinely hilarious in this movie. Like I was geeking out multiple times. His his portrayal of Red Guardian is is up there. But again, I don't think there's necessarily a weak link in that main cast of characters. No. Other than I guess I could say like Taskmaster is the weakest link.
Speaker: um You know, part of that. forgot to mention. Yeah, part of that gang of Thunderbolts. um We do get a definitive answer as to what happens to Taskmaster. I'm excited to get into that with you, Simon.
Speaker: um Because it's not what... some people may expect, honestly. Right. Of course. And yeah, like, ah I really enjoyed this, man. I think it, I think it's awesome. And again, it's very like actually,
Speaker: emotional like it kind of got me at a couple points it deals with like depression um and drug addiction in a in a way that is kind of interesting to be you you know put into like a mcu movie which is usually like woohoo quippy quippy quippy and this one doesn't really follow that same formula um Yeah, I think this is great. And it's kind of nice to have an MCU movie again. That's kind of like a return to form um and something that's good. And I'm hoping that this is the start of getting some consistently good MCU movies as opposed to.
Speaker: You never know what you're going to get, you know, these days with like Ant-Man, Quantumania, the Marvels, Captain America, the fourth Captain America. It's it's Sam now. um You know, it's it's just so inconsistent. And i'm I'm hoping we can finally find some consistency in these, not only the releases, but just the universe as a whole.
Speaker: Yeah. Yeah. That's fair. I would agree. I think Florence Pugh is a standout, personally. I think she's the biggest standout of this movie in general. But i it's these characters are so lovable.
Speaker: And as you said, it like this movie made me very emotional, but it's like it's got a serious emotional resonance throughout. I thought it was... I don't know. I think it's excellent.
Speaker: It's one of my favorites. It's at least the top third of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Yeah. Set of movies for sure. I also think Julia Louise Dreyfus is really great as well.
Speaker: um But yeah, it's it's great. I wonder if the trailer revealed too much, though. Speaking of trailers earlier that revealed too much, I'm curious about what you thought about that. I don't know why I felt like that, but the more the movie went on, I was kind of waiting for certain scenes that I remembered in the trailer, and it kind of bothered me.
Speaker: It's like this is maybe consequence of us being too tuned into it a consistent basis, which is kind of kind of crappy, I suppose, but...
Speaker: Yeah, I get where you're coming from there. I think the trailer did a good enough job kind of rearranging scenes from the movie, but it does show a lot of things from the latter half of the film.
Speaker: um But I don't necessarily think it like fully reveals the story and and kind of the outcome. i I do think like them doing that big Avengers ah Doomsday cast reveal is did this movie a disservice in the sense of literally all of those characters are back in the next movie.
Speaker: So it gets rid of this sense of like worry for the characters that there are still surprises, which again, we'll get into, but I found myself kind of like, Oh yeah, everyone's going to be fine. Cause they're in the next one.
Speaker: Cause we already know this, right? Whether it's moed for doomsday. Yeah. Yeah, whether it's the same character or a different version of them, we don't know for sure. um But again, you can kind of make assumptions based on that. So I do feel um like that is kind of shitty. But I think the MCU is on such a low, especially after Captain America, the the fourth one.
Speaker: I forget the name. I literally cannot remember Brave New World. Yeah. um And I think they needed something to drum up hype again about this movie.
Speaker: um And I don't know if it's going to work fully. Like, I know you mentioned had $11 million dollars opening. Cool. um For the first night. But like, again, our theater was more than half empty, which is crazy for an MCU movie on opening night.
Speaker: Like, I was worried that we wouldn't get tickets. But like, I bought tickets only a couple days prior. And there was literally only like eight other seats sold. not a good example, though, because I don't know if we talked about this before, but the theater near us, we've got two theaters, one of them flooded.
Speaker: And that flooded theater, people probably still don't know it's open, dude. It's just not open according to... like it doesn't that' Theater has not been busy every time we've gone. We've gone there three three times, I think, or twice. Definitely for warfare and this one. Yeah, it wasn't busy both times. we We were there on the weekend, pretty much, and it won for a preview. so And Woodlawn, the Woodlawn Theater was incredibly busy for...
Speaker: for the Minecraft movie. I don't know. I think, mindquired I have a feeling people just didn't know this is out or something along those lines. But $10 million, $11 million dollars to start for a $70 million dollars expectation is not bad at all.
Speaker: I don't know. That seems like it's going to hit. ah but But we'll see. I hope so. I hope so. Like, I hope this movie does well because I don't want them to get the wrong idea because I like this cast of characters. I want to see this cast of characters return and follow this group. They have incredible chemistry. All of them.
Speaker: Yeah, it's very very good. The chemistry is really solid. And again, what you talked about earlier is like the the idea of dealing with mental health in such a serious way and in a Marvel movie, I think is pretty awesome.
Speaker: and And they took some big swings for sure. I think that Jake Schreier, the director, who's the director of Beef, honestly, anything that that guy throws at me at this point, like anything he makes, I'm going to watch, I You'll eat. and I didn't say cooks.
Speaker: Well, he makes, you'll eat. He did beef. Come on, man. Oh, he did beef. Come on, man. All right. Oh, gotta explain things for you. You okay? Hold on a second. Are you in the dark?
Speaker: Are you sitting in the dark? Yeah, it's been getting darker here. you have a light on at all? Or, you know, you're on camera, right? you're doing Your camera's not good enough for this shit. It was, it was, like, it was bright, but we've been, we're recording and the sun has been setting.
Speaker: Yeah, okay. Yeah. Let's see. Prep your environment before you record. Oh, Jesus Christ. Flash banged myself, dude. What is that? Is that ah like a ring light? ring light.
Speaker: You have a ring light? I didn't know that. Yeah. Okay. You want me to send you a picture of it? No, I'm good. i'm um No, I'm i'm good. What is this advertisement? I'll send that to you.
Speaker: You're advertising PlayStation while we're recording. Okay. You gave me this, Simon. Yeah, I did. Because you're a nice friend. But yeah, lovable characters. I thought the one of the stunts is excellent. The one that way they advertised before the movie happened as well.
Speaker: I will say the my one negative that I would like to point out as I feel like they still don't got the power metrics down down down pat for the freaking MCU. I don't know why this is a problem. Not that complicated.
Speaker: Just hire a guy. Hire one man to deal with this. It's not that difficult. Kevin Feige. Hello, buddy. Just figure this out. It's very annoying. Every single movie is going to be like this. They have the one of the biggest Temple movies coming out in Doomsday. They've got so many characters in that.
Speaker: I think the Russo brothers know what they're doing, so they're not going to make this mistake. But this is a serious issue at this point because they so keep making the same mistake every time. but But yeah, I really like this movie a lot.
Speaker: Yeah, okay. want to move on? Yeah. I mean, one thing that we can talk about is, you know, we got to the theater. It was supposed to be a three dimensional movie. Yeah. And we're sitting in the theater. We got our 3D glasses and we sit down.
Speaker: It says put on your 3D glasses. Yeah. And we're like ah minute, maybe two minutes into the movie. And I'm sitting there and I i pulled down my glasses. I'm like, it's not 3D.
Speaker: I turn to our good pal, Ken, who came with us. I said, Ken, it's not in 3D. You want to take off your glasses just so I'm not crazy. Then he takes off his glasses. Then you take off your glasses. And I kept on looking around the theater.
Speaker: And ah most people kept their glasses on for the vast majority of the movie. Eventually, like about the halfway point, I started noticing fewer and fewer glasses on. think people were cluing in.
Speaker: yeah But I felt bad because it was like the end of the day, like the you know the only showing of that movie, and we left. And like we ah you know you're we had to tell the manager, it's like, hey, man, like...
Speaker: The 3D is off. You should check it out for the future. I really just, I bought a large popcorn. They're doing the free popcorn refill. So I wanted to my popcorn refill. But yeah, like we were going to tell him. And then we got complimentary movie tickets.
Speaker: Yeah. Because of that. That was not my goal. I just wanted him to to to turn it on for the next showing. I just wanted popcorn. We got free movie tickets. That's what we're using awards fantastic for now. We got our fantastic four tickets purchased. I already did it.
Speaker: You already did it. No. and I don't know if you can use those tickets for that. It's just a piece of paper. There's a coupon code. and Oh, there is? Oh, maybe they then it can be used online. Okay.
Speaker: That's what Ken said. And corrected. That's what Ken said. I'm going to believe Ken. I don't know. I didn't try it, actually. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, that's not going to be a problem in every other theater. It's just some something in this theater. And this is probably because, again, they just opened and there's there's growing pains for them to for this reopening.
Speaker: So that's kind of the issue in the theater we went to. But that was kind of nice that we got the the tickets. It's kind of good. But yeah, hopefully they fix it for the next one. Because that was the flattest 3D movie I've ever watched. That's for sure.
Speaker: Yeah. Yeah. Incredible. That was good. That was a good one, dude. That was a good one. Yikes. Okay. All right. Let's move on now. Adrian. Okay. You're going to go to the bathroom?
Speaker: No, actually. I don't have to go yet. And you drank a beer? Wow. I drank like third of this. Maybe half. Okay. Wow. Okay. Usually at this point in the show, you have to go pee pee.
Speaker: So I thought I would be. Should I go pee pee? No, no, no. I'm going to piss. want to watch me piss? No, I do not. Definitely don't want that. That, that, uh, that I don't want.
Speaker: Okay. Well, uh, that ends what we've been watching. I think, is there anything else that you can think of that we missed? Perhaps anything we saw together that I've mistaken? ah We want to watch Until Dawn, but we can we can get the timing right.
Speaker: Because we were going to go on Tuesday, and then you said like you don't you can't do a later show. But I thought you weren't available earlier, so I made plans earlier. And then I was like, okay, well, you know, you're...
Speaker: but I didn't let you do it. You shut your but bitch mouth. anyway so But I still wanted to go to the movies like later. So me and Cassandra, we were going to go watch Drop actually in the theater.
Speaker: Oh. and On Woodlawn. I was through Drop personally. But yeah. Then Until Dawn? Yeah. Oh. Because Drop is like an 89% or something on Rotten Tomatoes, isn't it?
Speaker: I don't remember. so It's very well reviewed. i don't It is. I'm not obsessed with Rotten Tomatoes scores, but they give me a good metric. I've i've said this before, of where I should watch something. Until Dawn, I'm very interested in, but there's so many movies coming out all around the same time. This year is packed.
Speaker: So that's why Drop is interesting. But did you go see Drop? Sorry. No. My point is, i was trying to pre-order the tickets on the Cineplex application that's on my mobile device, Simon. Yeah.
Speaker: And every time I was going into the Woodlawn Theater, was given an error. It's like, whoopsie daisy, there's an error. And i was like, oh, that's weird. im And I was trying it for like a couple hours, but it's like, whatever, the showing's at like nine.
Speaker: i live five minutes from that theater. So my fiance and I just like popped into the car, just, you know, like 10 minutes before the show, drove to the theater. The doors, we I noticed, no, Simon, don't add to my tail. I'm not there yet.
Speaker: and And I'm captivated. Don't blame me. And in front of the theater, there's a group of people, like probably eight different people standing there.
Speaker: Some guys are trying to open the door. No chickens. No chickens, man. kick Turkeys, though. Turkeys. Yeah. And they were trying to open the door. They're like, let me in. Let me in, they said.
Speaker: And the the one person's like waving in the theater, but they weren't opening the door. And then I realized it's probably because the theater was closed for some reason. You couldn't buy the tickets.
Speaker: And I wasn't going to get out of the car and walk to the door and be like, hey, what's going on? um Because I didn't want to be a part of those eight people being like, let me in. So we just went home. You saw them and you're like, these are a bunch of Minecraft people, aren't they?
Speaker: Probably. You drove away. Minecraft. Yeah, probably. So my my only assumption is that those people, like the reason why they were so adamant on going in, And this is just totally me making this up based on nothing. Conjecture.
Speaker: Gotcha. they're they're They're there. They probably bought tickets to a movie earlier in the day before that theater knew it was going to have issues. And then it had issues. And they're like, I need to use my tickets. I bought these tickets already. Let me in.
Speaker: But they were like, something's wrong. And they weren't going in the door and talking to them. So I hope that theater is OK. We don't have another shutdown here. No, I think it was open literally the next day. I think you can buy Tinkins right now. Let me check. Tinkins.
Speaker: Tinkins right now. Tinkins. Yeah, dude. Everyone loves their Tinkins. Tinkins. Yeah. Okay. to No, you can buy Tinkins right now.
Speaker: Okay. Why are you saying it like that? i don't know. I just felt like... Is that how you say penguin? I say penguin normally, dude. a Every time you say it, you actually hear it as normal. I've always wondered this.
Speaker: Yeah. what Yes, I do. i his It's like how I say coyote. Coyote. yeah so I don't know why I said coyote. Coyote.
Speaker: for when we were What was that? three Two episodes ago when we were talking about coyote coyote versus acne. I was reading it as coyote. I don't know why. Coyote. coyote instead of coyote yeah yeah i'm not sure but you do say penguin weird for sure that's rude dude and i disagree it's coyote versus penguin penguin i just it dude it's a whatever penguin that's what it is isn't it's a ping yeah yeah i'm yeah penguin anyway yeah yeah you yeah that's what you say yeah colin farrell is the penguin you're really saying it ridiculously
Speaker: You're doing it on purpose. I know what you're doing. Okay. yeah That's a, yeah. Okay. So interesting. So you didn't see drop. That was the more of the story, correct? No. And then I found out that it's available digitally, Simon. Oh, okay.
Speaker: I still want watch it in the theater. I'm 100% down to see Until Dawn. If you want to see it, I do want to see it. I'm curious to see how it's different than the game. It's obviously based on the game. I'm very curious about it because it's just that the game is not similar and in in a lot of ways, but I think that the concept of the movie seems really cool.
Speaker: But then it was reviewed kind of middling. It was like a 58% of Rotten Tomatoes. like ah i It looked good. It looks cool. I thought they were they had something going. i thought they could maybe make another game based on that concept because that concept is almost better than the original game. and like Because the concept of the game...
Speaker: the the way the game plays is better to me than the, the concept of the game. Does that make sense? It's not a really or that original of a plot. Like the plot's not that original. It's done really well. And the way it's done as well is really good. And it's one of the best from that studio supermassive. Cause they've made a lot of horror games like that, where you, it's like a choose your own adventure. You play various characters, but you're, You can literally change the plot in fundamental ways and characters can die or survive based on your choices, which is awesome.
Speaker: But I, yeah I think that the, that idea for an until dawn game is really great. and I almost want them to make that into a game because how cool would that be? ah It reminds me of almost like a split fiction or it takes two where yeah the format of the, of the game changes constantly. That would be so neat. Like,
Speaker: It's not a genre change, I guess, but it's like it's a genre of horror change, I suppose. Yeah, it would be cool. like they make it like ah I think you mentioned this, um that they made it kind of like a roguelike, where it's like every time you die, it restarts, but it's like a different horror thing.
Speaker: I just feel like that would be very difficult to make in into a video game. Yeah, it's almost... Yeah, possibly for sure. But I would say like the interesting thing is that the this movie in that you just said it's like a roguelike is almost more of like a video game than the actual video game Until Dawn.
Speaker: because the Until Dawn video game is just really a movie that you play. Yeah, it's choose your own adventure movie. It's it's fun ah Final Destination 3. Is that how they did it? ah when you Yeah, the take-home DVD. You could make choices.
Speaker: Oh, cool. Netflix tried to follow those footsteps a little bit with some things, but I don't think that ever worked out for them. Yeah, it was... um I never watched it, but Bandersnatch, right? the Yeah, and then there was an animated thing that did the same. Was it like a Tom and Jerry thing? or It wasn't Tom and Jerry, but it was some cat burglaring or something. I did play that, actually. I was curious about that. i was like, oh, this is okay. It's for children.
Speaker: Yeah. Okay. All right. Adrian, now it is time to move on to the montage, a sequence of our show, in which I briefly present seven of the bi-week smaller news stories as Adrian delivers a brisk verdict.
Speaker: Okay. Number one. According to publication, The Hollywood Reporter, the DC Universe World War II film, Sergeant Rock, that was meant to star Penguin actor Colin Farrell and be directed by Challenger's director, Luca Guadagnino, is no longer happening.
Speaker: That's unfortunate, isn't it? Yeah. Number two, Shogun season two is set to begin production in January of 2026. With the first season of Shogun following the events of author James Clavel's 1975 novel, the new season will chart its own path. Interesting. I thought this was meant to be a miniseries originally. Yes, supposed to be a limited series originally. Yes. Oh, number three. According to Deadline, a Tom Hanks starring Apple TV Plus produced Greyhound sequel film has been greenlit and will begin production in 2026.
Speaker: Tom Hanks will reprise his role as World War Two Navy Commander Ernest Krauss. Oh my goodness. What is this guy going to do? Is he going to get attacked by even more submarines? What the heck, dude?
Speaker: the heck number four as deadline reports the lawsuit that sought to prevent the distribution of james gunn's upcoming superman film in canada the united kingdom ireland and australia due to a rights dispute has been dismissed by the u.s district judge handling the case Oh, thank goodness, I was worried we were never gonna see that Superman movie because of this.
Speaker: Number 5. According to Variety, Wicked film director John M. Chu is directing an adaptation of the 2025 hit cooperative video game Split Fiction. Euphoria actor Sidney Sweeney will star with Deadpool and Wolverine writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick writing the script. This is interesting. I'm kind of shocked. Great game.
Speaker: We still have... We guys still got to beat this game, Simon. But um I feel like the story is arguably the the the worst part. still good, but it's it's the least captivating portion of the...
Speaker: of the game. It's a cool concept though. It's a cool concept. It's tis indeed, tis indeed. Number six. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lost co-showrunner Carlton Cuse and his son, HBO's Watchmen writer Nick Cuse, are set to helm a mysterious Star Wars TV series for Disney+. plus Oh my God, another one of these Star Wars shows?
Speaker: I hope it's good. Number seven. According to publication Variety, Barry writer-director Bill Hader and Bloodline writer Daniel Zellman are in development of an HBO TV series following the cult leader Jim Jones and the events at Jonestown.
Speaker: This is crazy. It's, uh, considering what the first episode of the studio is about. That's so funny, dude. That's awesome. Life imitating art. Mm-hmm. And a bonus number eight, Searchlight Pictures has revealed that the Ready or Not horror film sequel, Ready or Not Here I Come, has begun production and is set to star Lord of the Rings actor, Elijah Wood, Buffy the Vampire Slayer actor, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and History of Violence director, David k Cronenberg. um
Speaker: Oh, that's really interesting. I can't wait. I really liked that first movie. It was awesome. So I'm in. And that concludes the montage. bumy eye That's crazy, Simon. You were playing the music for the first time live. You didn't edit it in. You just played it in in in the podcast. It threw me off.
Speaker: I was vibing. I like that. I like it, dude. It was cool. I was trying it. I'm not sure I'm going to use the track. I just think it's kind of fun to put it in the background while we're doing it. So I threw it in there for fun.
Speaker: and we got i got I got a soundboard now, basically, a digital soundboard I can play with that I've never used before. So I thought I would play around with it. Nice. Nice. And Simon, genuine question. Are you doing a bit with the montage now at this point?
Speaker: Is this a bit? what Why? Because you keep on, you briefly present seven of the top news stories and literally every episode for the past eight months that we've been doing this.
Speaker: No, not everyone. It has caused an issue. I did draw attention to this though, to be honest. Like a couple of weeks ago, I think I brought it up. I don't know because there's always there's always more than I expect. And I feel like the last one, i feel like you like, because you really liked Ready or Not.
Speaker: i Yeah, I did. did too. So I thought it was really relevant to something you would want to comment on. So I was kind of deciding between like the Jonestown one. i'm like, no, you definitely want to kind of want to comment on that because the studio is literally literally dealing with that same topic, which is strange because how has a movie not been made about that or anything...
Speaker: Yet. And then now it's hidden two things. It kind of reminds me of like in a recent episode of mythic quest, they talked about how they, uh, what did they call it? They call it, call that the friends with benefits.
Speaker: Because there's like so ah no strings attached. the movie Those movies came out in conjunction, like really close to each other, but they're not related from two different studios. There's also The Prestige and The Illusionist.
Speaker: There's always this weird thing that happens where these two properties come out around the same time that kind of do the same thing. they're They're following the same subject matter. Usually one is better than the other.
Speaker: In the case of The Prestige and The Illusionist, The Prestige way better, as an example. I do like The Illusionist, but I think The Prestige is like... amazing and so so yeah anyway so it's like kind of like that in a weird way but i don't feel like they just didn't talk and they didn't know this was happening but bill hater must know seth rogan so i don't know i don't know how this happened but but yeah i thought you'd be interested in that so i always throw an extra one in because don't know it's just fun you know it's fun i like saying there's seven of them though seven's a good number it's arguably the best number yeah okay we're all entitled to our opinion yeah
Speaker: Well, now onto a segment of our show, Adrian, that I like to call ah Look to the Future. Whoa, dude.
Speaker: Look at you with all this sand soundboard stuff. Oh my goodness. That you're doing. It's a portion of our podcast where each of us present at least three of our picks for the TV series or movies that look most interesting to us that are releasing between the dates of May 6th and May 19th of 2025.
Speaker: Adrian, as is customary, I'll let you go first. What is your pick? Already, Simon, my first pick is ah movie that is coming out on May 9th called Clowning a Cornfield.
Speaker: This movie looks like a ton of fun. Yeah. This movie looks like a ton of fun. It's by the director of Tucker and Dale versus evil, which is a genuinely hilarious, like horror comedy.
Speaker: I highly recommend it. It's very like grotesque and violent, but it is just like, it's just a fun time. and So I'm very curious about this clan in a cornfield movie. I think it's getting really good reviews. Like, I think it is like an 80 or something on rotten tomatoes.
Speaker: So ah yeah, this is a movie I want to watch and I, I will, hopefully watch it. It's actually a 93 on Rotten Tomatoes. Whoa, that's really high. You know what's funny? I'm really shocked that that's your first pick.
Speaker: I thought for sure it was going to be a different pick. what What did you think? What do you think? I 100% thought you were going to pick Friendship. The Paul Rudd, Tim Robinson starring movie comes out on May 9th as well.
Speaker: um But it it looks really quirky and... um yeah i imagine you really want to see that more than cornfield but maybe i'm wrong maybe i'm wrong maybe you want to see the clown in the cornfield more than friendship well may 9th is the like so limited release of friendship oh and then i think it's doing its wide release like a week later or two weeks later i can't remember i think it's like may 16th actually we're still within our more period then it is it is simon did you just know i was gonna do this so you were like i'll save a pick or
Speaker: No, I just I didn't know if you were going to do it. i I didn't know if you knew it was coming. That's to me the most anticipated thing for this two week period. Movie of the year. Looks absurd, man. It looks like it's going to be really, really good, but in a bad way, but also really bad in a good way. You know what I'm saying?
Speaker: I unfortunately do. Yeah. It's a 91% of run tomatoes. It's such a high score. I love it. I love it. The director I'm not super familiar with though. Do you know Andrew DeYoung from anything? Do you know what he's done?
Speaker: No, I remember looking this up and I don't think this guy has done much that I've seen. if anything, i have seen.
Speaker: because I think he's like a relatively new director from the looks of it. Yeah, he's done like a little mini series. He did AP Bio. I always kind of wanted to watch that, actually. He directed AP Bio. Have you ever seen that show? weve seen it No, that's with... them What's his name from... ah Yeah, Glenn Howerton.
Speaker: yeah Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Speaker: yeah Just to say, i'm keep me score and I'm definitely helping you more than you're helping me. That's all I'm saying. She's lazy, dude. You were keeping score. Look, you brought it up. You said.
Speaker: You know what? You're a sore winner. You're sore winner. Anyway, the other thing he's done is like a peacock movie called Would It Kill You to Laugh? I feel like it rings a bell, but I've never, certainly never.
Speaker: seen it and that it's a very haunting image but book on the title card thing and the like the the marquee he also did a thing called oh he directed our flag means death oh my goodness I love that show. By the way, oh my God.
Speaker: I know what I can recommend you. Our flag means death. Done. I've done it. I haven't recommended you do anything in and how many weeks? How many months? I recommend you Our Flag Means Death. You don't like it?
Speaker: You don't think you'll like it? I watched the first episode and it didn't hook me. Really? yeah man. I think it was just a place in time thing. and Okay. That's the wrong choice, I guess. i thought I thought you would really like it. It's very quirky. I don't feel like it picks up.
Speaker: right away like you kind of watch it and then you grow to love the ridiculous characters that are in it and there's like a lot of ridiculous things in it there's this one scene though it's funny they use a song what's that song called i love that song and they use in spider-man 2 as well coincidentally i watched the episode with this song just around the the time in which uh they uh they they use it in this episode. And I thought it was just a brilliant episode.
Speaker: There was moments where I teared up in this show and I was like, I'm kind of shocked. This show is like way better than I ever expected it to be starting it from the beginning. My fiance and I, though right it did, but yeah, that's the problem. Actually, yeah, I take my recommendation back because um I can't remember how it ended.
Speaker: Did it end well? I don't recommend it to you. I don't recommend it to you, but I recommend it to the average person. It's an HBO show follows pirates that are very quirky. um Yeah.
Speaker: And it's got Taika Waititi in it, which is great. And he's im an executive one of the executive producers as well. That's really good. But yeah, the director of that, that's that's cool. i'm Now I'm even more interested in this and this movie, Friendship.
Speaker: Adrienne, okay, what's your second pick? My second pick, Simon, is not Final Destination 3, but Final Destination Bloodlines. It's the new Final Destination movie coming out May 16th in theaters.
Speaker: they're they're they're They're doing something new in this one where... the The grandpa, he he cheated death at some point, or the grandma cheated death at some point, and she got to live her entire life, but now death has come a-knocking and is going to kill that entire bloodline of of her family because they never were supposed to exist because she had a vision and survived, and technically she should have died, and all her kids and those grandkids, they should all be dead.
Speaker: So death's a-here. Death's a-going to kill them. Oh, yeah. Oh, no.
Speaker: Speaking of grandma's Adrian, I'm not actually not going to do that. There's a movie that's called Maul coming out, but I'm not actually going to use that as my third second pick. Maul? Yeah. Yeah. Isn't that coming out now? I'm trying to look it up, but my internet's having a conniption. It cannot search a single goddamn thing.
Speaker: I'm not sure why. ah you know what it is? Rotten Tomatoes. Have you ever found that Rotten Tomatoes search engine is kind of bad? I don't use it. I always just Google things and type in Rotten Tomatoes.
Speaker: Yeah, it's better. It's better. That's where Google is winning out. their their Their search engine aspect is usually pretty great. Mom movie. Hold on. It's Octavia Spencer. You know i'm talking about?
Speaker: but There's a sequel? Wait, that i already came out. Why is that showing up on the list? That mom movie came out like 100 years ago. It did. It did. Yeah. I don't know why it showed up in the list that I was looking at. I must have not looked at it properly. It must have been a re-release. Okay, a mistake. And it's not a terrible segue. Regardless, that wasn't my pick anyway. but my next My next pick is Poker Face Season 2 premiere, Adrian. Wow.
Speaker: Poker Face Season 2, the Rian Johnson executive produced... show with Natasha Lyonne as the star and lots of lots of actors just like come in and out of that show she's a pretty sure like a private eye and she's trying to solve crimes it's on CBC gem now ah the first season I didn't realize that until today when I looked this up because I'm like I really always wanted to watch this I'm really a big fan of Rian Johnson so I'm I'm kind of interested in this anyways the premiere is on me So I'm i'm excited about this.
Speaker: I think I will maybe one day watch this on CBC Gem, at least the first season. I'm just so behind on multiple shows that might be tricky to do. But yeah. um Yeah. CBC Gem sucks because I got it for ah because I was watching Schitt's Creek at one point and then they took it off Netflix and put it on CBC Gem.
Speaker: Yeah. And it was, it was bad, dude. And like, i even, I did like the free trial for the premium. Yeah. um Because I don't want ads. it's so It's cheap. It's five bucks, I think.
Speaker: Or maybe it's still played ads. Whatever. I'm going on a tangent. Long story short, it like never saved where we were in the episode. It never saved which episode we just watched. It was a whole hassle. I'm like, I'm not giving you my $5 CBC gem.
Speaker: Canadian broadcast channel. You're not getting my $5. Yeah.
Speaker: That's what i said. Sorry, what did you call it? What was the acronym? Canadian Broadcast Channel. It's not that. You don't know the acronym for CBC? It's Canadian Broadcast Channel, dude.
Speaker: No, it isn't. Okay. What is it? It looks like you were looking it up. But um no. a Broadcasting Corporation. Whatever. Close enough, dude. You're like, oh, you fucking idiot. You got you got one of the three words wrong.
Speaker: I didn't say that. Anyway, um but yeah, I don't know. I've watched something on CBC Gem, but to keep in mind, like it could be the app that you were on, right? Like this will be but the CBC Gem app.
Speaker: Yeah, but where is the app? What is it on? What platform is it on? It could be broken. YouTube is always broken on Apple TV as an example. I'm not going say YouTube is broken in general. you know what saying? I don't i think I was watching it directly off my TV. Okay, because Apple TV is kind of cool because it has a function where it will save your place.
Speaker: across all of your apps through the Apple TV app, which is pretty neat. So I'm hoping that CBC uses that feature. Netflix does not use that feature. They don't use any feature of Apple TV because they don't, I don't know what their problem is because we've discussed this before, but you can't even search up on the Apple TV app, whereas every streaming service shows up on there.
Speaker: If you're looking for something specific like Poker Face, I typed in in earlier to find out where it's broadcasted and it's broadcasted specifically for a streaming service on CBC Gym. which I found out on there. But if it was on Netflix, it wouldn't show me, which is the dumbest choice from Netflix that could I could imagine.
Speaker: I guess that they pay a cut to Apple. I don't know. But every other streaming services stream streaming service plays ball except for Netflix. I don't know we mentioned that on the Netflix that netflix episode where we talked about that. we did.
Speaker: But that is a very i a strong annoyance of like the... like Ted Sarandon seems like a pretty smart business dude, I must say, but it does strike me that as a whole, Netflix is a little bit arrogant.
Speaker: I get that impression. and don't know if you have that impression. Just a little bit. Like they're just kind of like, Oh yeah, we're, we're better than everyone. The streaming wars. Oh, we're the streaming King. That's what I get.
Speaker: That's the impression I get. don't know about you anyway. CBC Gem, not a good streaming service. Generally, anyway, despite that issue where it doesn't save your place.
Speaker: um It's just not as great, obviously. I don't know if i ever watched any seasons of Schitt's Creek on there. I think I saw them all on Netflix. I'm not 100% sure. It is a Canadian show.
Speaker: Is that what you're about to say? That it's Canadian show? Yeah. No. No.
Speaker: Oh, you said probably because. No, yeah, like probably you watched it on Netflix because oh I watched it on CBC Gem far after you and I was already watching it on Netflix until it was removed and put on CBC Gem.
Speaker: Right. All right, cool. What's your next show or movie? Oh, my final thing, Simon. The final thing. It is the final season of the animated series Blood of Zeus coming to Netflix on May 8th.
Speaker: I don't know if you've heard of this show. It's actually very well regarded. I've been recommended the show a few times. I watched the first, I think, two or three episodes and I was into it. But i think it's just, again, a place in time thing.
Speaker: um And yeah, the third and final season is coming back. And it's interesting because I think there was a huge gap between season one and two. was like 20. I think the first season came out like 2020.
Speaker: And the second season came out last year. So it's pretty neat that they're just releasing that third and final season this year. um So cool. Good for the people that like it. I'll watch it one day maybe or I won't. cool I don't know.
Speaker: I was just thinking like you said Blood of Zeus and I'm like, is that the Dan Harmon show? I'm like, no no, no, it's not. I looked it up cry quickly. It's obviously not. But what happened to that? You remember that crapopolis?
Speaker: Crappopolis? It's still running, I think. I'm looking at it right now. Crappopolis? Crappopolis. We talked about this on the podcast for sure years ago. it's Dan Harmon's the creator. It's Richard Iodi.
Speaker: i Iodi, right? That's his name? Matt Barry's in it as well. Matt Barry's a character? Oh, man. Oh, Hannah Waddingham? Okay. Keep David? Yeah, like...
Speaker: it Anyway, Steve Buscemi. Yeah, yeah. Dave Franco. Anyway, it's been running for way longer than I thought it was. It started in 2023 and it's still running today.
Speaker: i don't, I gotta look this up to see where I can play it. I was just don't know you've got the Apple TV app handy, but. I do. It's on Fox. It's a Fox show. But. Crap-op-a-lust. Yeah, it would be cool if Dan Harmon doesn't show up at all.
Speaker: Oh, maybe it's on Netflix. That's always a trick. It's not on there at all. Maybe it's on Netflix. Not on Netflix? um I'll check Netflix, but don't think so.
Speaker: Okay. Anyway. All right. Well, Crapopolis isn't my pick here. My next pick, Adrian, Murderbot. the Apple TV plus show.
Speaker: yeah. It is based on the novel by Martha Wells. And that reminds me deeply of Mickey 17. Every time I've seen the trailer for this, I've seen it a few times when it just before I watching mythic quest or something else on Apple TV.
Speaker: Um, but it's written by Chris and Paul whites and, uh, it airs on May 16th. Sorry. I don't know if i said this, but poker face season two airs on May 8th. I might've, I think you said that. Yeah.
Speaker: I missed that. but Um, but yeah, May 16th. It's, uh, interesting. It looks cool. I think I really ah kind of like Alexander Skarsgård.
Speaker: Everything I've seen him in, I've been pretty impressed. It's pretty cool. But this looks really quirky. And it it does remind me deeply of Mickey 17. And it just reminds me that Mickey 17 really should have been a movie.
Speaker: Mm-hmm. Show. Sorry. i It was a movie. Should have been a show. Thank you. Oh, you saved me. Look at that. I saved you. Dude, look at that. I didn't even have point it at you. Point it at you. I saved you more now.
Speaker: uh yeah so i thought that was cool that uh yeah it looks cool but mickey 17 should have been a show i think it just it seems like they they rushed it didn't it felt rushed in a weird way like i don't know to describe it and i think that it would be nice to see it become a show maybe but this looks interesting I don't know. Did you see the trailer for this? You did, right? I did. I did indeed, actually.
Speaker: It looks pretty interesting. Yeah. I have Apple TV for at least like another month because I think I just renewed it. The problem speaking of Apple TV, I don't know that this would take precedent ah over... I don't think this would be more important than our friends and neighbors.
Speaker: that's Are you watching that? I want to watch that more than I want to see this. That's the problem. Like I want to see stu the studio. And I want, I'm always going to have ah Apple TV plus. Cause I have like a, like the Apple one subscription. So unless they raise the price, which they could, they could just raise it to an exorbitant number.
Speaker: But I share it with my family as well, which is, exact again, why I'm able to cancel Netflix because they removed password sharing from the equation. Because I share the various aspects of Apple One, including iCloud storage, Apple Music, Apple News, and and and those types of things, so Apple Arcade, which I don't use, but also Apple TV+. plus i Because of that aspect of it, that's why I keep it.
Speaker: So I don't know if I'm going to... cancel at anytime soon. Again, they could increase the price over my threshold and then I can start shedding some of the services. But regardless of that, I am very curious about Jon Hamm's crime drama.
Speaker: I think that that looks really good. I saw there was like a quote they were showing on a trailer recently for our friends and neighbors that said the best Jon Hamm thing since Mad Men, which I'm like, that's a pretty, that's a pretty, uh,
Speaker: Bold thing to say. Bold statement. I said it before you said it, so you didn't know. No, I didn't. But I appreciate the sentiment. But yeah, it's bold because know you've seen Mad Men, but it's pretty awesome. Did you watch all of Mad Men?
Speaker: Yes. Should I watch that show? Here you go. I do like it. I don't know if you'll like it. wow You'll probably like it. It's it's awesome. I mean, it's just very slow.
Speaker: I'll say that. It's about like Matt. yeah You know what it's about, right? I don't know. It's businessmen in the 70s or 60s. No, no. Madison Avenue the idea. So the premise is that in the you're close.
Speaker: the close Businessmen in this, you're just like, you're missing it by like a high slight, slight mark for both of the things you said. But it's like matt basically Madison Avenue and ah advertising, an advertising agency um in the 60s. And there're it's very, very period piece.
Speaker: And it's about Jon Hamm's character, Don Draper, and he's like a bit of a womanizer. and he But he's like a he's like, I guess they consider him like a genius ad guy. Like he's the creative. And they have all these people working in the office, like people who are the actual creators who write up the copy and all that stuff. And he he comes up with the ideas and stuff like that. And he pitches it to these big companies like the Lucky Strikes like cigarettes or like Coca-Cola. And he's like pitching these ideas. And people are like captivated by him. But the thing is is that sometimes he comes to work like...
Speaker: half in the bag like he's he's in bad shape so it's like cool it's really cool the characters in it are really great and it's just very very immersive because they're just like they kind of you're thrown into this world it's just the it's it isn't for everyone in that it's a slower show i i recommended it to my mom years ago and she did not like it it was just too slow for her um So anyway, but yeah, I don't know if I've ever recommended anyone since. The thing about Mad Men 2 that this like sticks in my mind, I always have this thing where like olfactory nerve thing, like where like I remember certain memories with other memories that or they can they they collide with on an olfactory level like with like smells.
Speaker: So like I have this idea of like whenever I did hockey tryouts, I would smell the the smells of spring. And the smells of the hockey rink and spring work in a specific conjunction. So I always remember the smell of hockey tryouts. It's like something that's like grained completely ah ingrained in my mind.
Speaker: But one of the things that's interesting is the last season of Mad Men when it was airing, or no, it it would just hit Netflix, I think. I had a housemate that had just moved in, like a new housemate. And the thing is we would...
Speaker: we we're We all had our own own separate rooms, obviously. There was housemates, but but I didn't know this guy that well. But we bonded because one night, we go where it was like 12 a.m. And I was like making myself a snack in the kitchen, and he didn't know I was in there. And he was going out of the kitchen as well.
Speaker: And then I'm like, oh, what are you up to? like He's like a coder. He was like doing programming in in university. And so he he's like, oh i'm just ah I'm just watching TV. you I'm like, oh, you're watching TV? what are What are you watching? In his room. And I'm like, and he's holding he's going holding a glass of scotch. I'm like,
Speaker: What is this? and he's And I'm like, wow, that's a really classy way to watch TV. He's like, while I'm watching Mad Men. I'm like, I'm watching Mad Men. And this idea that he's like drinking the drinks that they would drink while watching the show.
Speaker: i just thought that was like it was like reminding me of like later on in my life. I'm watching Better Call Saul and I'm eating Cinnabon. It's just kind of something like that. But I always remember that. I i haven't talked to that guy since pretty much like that guy left that house and I never talked to him.
Speaker: But we bonded on Mad Men. And we constantly talk about talked about Mad Men after that time. I'm like, oh man, how was the finale? He's like, oh wow, so good. It was good. good It's a good finale too it's really It's really a deep show that you really think about after.
Speaker: It's less, like it's kind of aired at the same time as a, like a, um the one of the shows that people think is the best show ever, Breaking Bad. Breaking Bad.
Speaker: saved you again. Look at me. I'm saving you again. Are you sure? They had a crazy run, AMC. If you think about it, AMC was Mad Men, The Walking Dead, in this like a heyday. And then and when then it just ended like now, basically, like two years ago.
Speaker: And then they had the Breaking Bad almost airing simultaneously. at least At least at one time, they were all airing at the same moment. AMC really has... Nothing in comparison to that. I don't think like they've never been able to hit that kind of stride of having so many hit TV shows at the same moment.
Speaker: HBO has always done that. They've always kind of had these fluxes of things that always come in and out. Like now they've got The Last of Us. They just had White Lotus finish as an example. Apple TV is kind of getting that as well. But I feel like AMC hasn't had that kind of prestige in a while.
Speaker: Yeah, they were really killing it. And I feel like it kind of ended when Better Call Saul ended. Like i yeah, I can't name you a single AMC show apart from the Walking Dead shows that are aired. Yeah, and I don't even know that. Yeah, there are five Walking Dead. They won't really like triple quadruple down on a like on sorry, of the Walking Dead.
Speaker: which is crazy because it's cool. It's good, but it's yeah fine. It becomes a little bit samey after a while. That's the issue with that. They had some really cool ideas. There was a show they had about like the early days of the computer industry.
Speaker: like at IBM and various things. What was that called now? That show was so good. ah Was it like Halt and Catch Fire something like that? Yes. no Now you're winning for the saving money. Halt and Catch Fire. That's a good good memory. You haven't seen that.
Speaker: No. Right? Never. Yeah. yeah It's Halt and Catch Fire. And it had the dude, and I'd never, Lee Pace, who's in um that that show, on Apple TV, actually, the one that's written by the dude who wrote The Dark Knight. You know what I'm talking about? no foundation It's Foundation, the show, but it's the guy who wrote The Dark Knight. It's David S. Goyer.
Speaker: Did you ever have any inkling to watch Foundation? Because I've been tempted by it. That's like a classic like novel that they and turned into a No, like I remember it coming out. I think, yeah, it has like decent reviews. I was like, oh, maybe I'll watch it.
Speaker: I do. So they have, it's funny because like maybe I'll watch it someday because they have a PlayStation VR 2 game based on the foundation do well as well. They well. Yeah, not related to the show, but yeah, definitely. Yeah, and so maybe one day, like because I had a little VR streak like a few, like a couple months ago and I haven't played VR since I moved into this new place.
Speaker: um But maybe I'll hop back into some more VR titles. And if I if i download that game or pick up that game, I'll ah ah watch Foundation. Yeah, that would be a good like synergy. you know yeah Synergy of what you're watching.
Speaker: I've been tempted with Andor. Oh, sorry. I'll be honest with you. um like If I were to watch kind of like a sci-fi show right now, yeah in that, I guess, similar genre, I'd um I feel like I'd probably choose The Expanse.
Speaker: I've heard so many good things about The Expanse. That's what Grounded, though. I don't really know the difference between... i actually don't know the plots of any of those shows. I've just heard The Expanse is kind of like Space Game of Thrones. like It's pretty crazy. It's very well done.
Speaker: So curious about watching that. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know how it ended. That's the question. Honestly, though, again, I cannot recommend For All Mankind more. Apple TV Plus has so many good science fiction shows. It's nuts.
Speaker: Again, Dark Matter, Severance, The Silo, the Foundation's kind of rockier in terms of its reviews. um They've got Murderbot coming now. We'll see how that goes.
Speaker: And then i missed one, didn't I? I said Dark Matter, Severance, Silo. We were just talking about For All Mankind? For All Mankind. Right. Which is probably the best one out of all of those. do i met there were all the All of the ones I mentioned, for sure.
Speaker: And that's the same dude who's trying to do God of War. So least he was a part of it in a major way. um But yeah, i'm I'm losing all my names now.
Speaker: For All Mankind. What is his name? The guy who's doing God of War. Ronald E. Moore, who did Battlestar Galactica, which I do recommend, but the ending is bad. I wanted to watch The expenses Expanse as well. I have it on my list of shows I was going to watch, but then now there's so many new shows coming out constantly that I can't catch up. Anyway, that's pretty much it for this episode. That's all the regular scheduled programming. do you have anything else to mention? Any other TV shows or movies that you wanted to throw in there as a pick for this coming two weeks? There's one more I have listed, actually, that we didn't mention.
Speaker: Other than mall, which came out years ago. Yeah. Pre COVID. What, what, what do you have to mention, Simon? Did you see the trailer for hurry up tomorrow? no
Speaker: Some wacky shit. I don't know this director very much, but I have heard of his thing. It actually has got the, speaking of Dark Matter, it's got the dude from Dark Matter in it. ah The director's name is Trey Edward Schultz.
Speaker: And it's got stars The Weeknd, Jenna Ortega, and Barry Keegan. Oh. he the Trey Edward Schultz directed It Comes At Night. come sorry it comes at night And so it does look wacky and crazy. It looks like a horror movie. It isn't initially, but then it does definitely by the end of it.
Speaker: um But the end of the trailer, I should say, it's pretty crazy. Anyways, this comes out May 16th. I'm not sure how much of a wide release it will be. does look like very much like an independent movie, but yeah, it's Joel Edgerton. and It comes at night, but I've heard of it comes at night and it looks pretty creepy as well, but I've never,
Speaker: yeah seen that i don't know where that may be streaming or whatever but it was yeah that came out in 2017 anyway yeah hurry up tomorrow i don't know that's like looks pretty wacky i know if you're looking at the trailer right now but some wacky shit it's interesting the weekend seems to like to be called by his name like not the weekend when he able like trey what is it I don't know.
Speaker: Anyway, but he in when he's doing movies but then when he's or like TV shows. He was in that one cult TV show. Oh, I thought you meant like he was just in a cult in general. No, no.
Speaker: He's not Jared Leto.
Speaker: Yeah. Which, you believe he's in a cult, right? i' You're saying that. isn't Yeah, like he has like some sort of sex island cult thing.
Speaker: Allegedly. Is that true? ah think so. I don't know. right. Seems like an odd duck. Sure. I wouldn't want to be in a room alone with him is all I'm saying.
Speaker: Alone? Whoa. Okay. Okay, then. All right. Yeah, yes, Simon. That's it. Yeah, this is the shortest episode we've done for since forever. It's kind of crazy. It's kind of weird, but there wasn't that much in this last two weeks other than like seeing Thunderbolts.
Speaker: Did miss a piece of news? I feel like sometimes I feel like I missed a piece of news that was pretty substantial. and Oh, Ken did mention to us actually about Blade being canceled because I think like the the guy that was doing the music was like, I don't know if the mus movies happening and then Wayland
Speaker: Wayland.
Speaker: The guy that was in Sinners is supposed to be in it. Wayland something. What? Delroy Lindo? Oh, yeah. I don't know why I'm saying Wayland. I don't know. You mean the corporation in in Alien?
Speaker: Yeah, dude. Oh, my God. Yeah, that was ah that was a flub. away on way am i gonna pick you up from that i'm not you're gonna have to give me more than wayland i'm so so sorry yeah no no you're right you're right i don't see anything though about that though he said that to me to both of us and i didn't see other than the last delay which i see like here is written by like for forbes which forbes is honestly just picks up from other places usually they don't really scoop anything Oh, there's like a March 28th rumor.
Speaker: Blade MCU movie essentially canceled, but it's from superherohype.com. Oh, that seems like a legit news source. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know. I don't see anything that's official in this.
Speaker: There's like World of Real says the Marvel's Blade is scrapped.
Speaker: I don't believe it. I don't believe it until until a Deadline or like in Snyder or like the Hollywood Reporter or Variety or like Puck or any of these guys, if they say I'd be like, okay. If it's game rant, I'm so sorry.
Speaker: Yeah. Oh, wait.
Speaker: Game rant? is That's not the game, is it? Why is game rant talking about Blade?
Speaker: No, it's a freaking, they're talking about the movie. what What are they doing? It's called Game Rant and there's a Blade movie in production right now by a studio that I really admire, like Arcane, Lyon.
Speaker: So, all right. No, that's not canceled. Not not that I see anyway. that would be disappointing. Anyway. But yeah, there's no, there's nothing I see unless you see something I'm missing.
Speaker: I don't know. I'm not going look it up. That's it. maybe well we'll look at Well, if it comes up, we'll definitely talk about that because I feel like it's substantial. That's in literal development hell. That's that's like yeah that's in bad shape.
Speaker: Is it ever going to come out? um I don't know. It sucks. It sucks. That's something we joked about. Oh, we didn't talk about the end credits scene. I guess we could talk about it sort of here for Thunderbolts, like that end credit scene, like the final one, there's one in the middle. It's hilarious, but the the final one is actually quite substantial. We didn't talk about it.
Speaker: We did, but we didn't talk about how the rest of the MCU has been flubbing their end credit scenes majorly in like a major way. I mentioned it briefly. Oh yeah. Okay. Yeah. um But yeah, that's ah it's been a problem though.
Speaker: The number of ridiculous teases, there's too many loose threads. They're just dangling everywhere. No one knows whether they're ever going to go back to some of them. don't want to mention because I feel like they could be spoilers, I guess, but I just don't even know. I'm going to spoil all of them right now. There's a signal.
Speaker: somewhere and and and something is coming that is literally every single mcu and credit scene oh okay okay yeah yeah but they're always the thing is it about the signals that they're never the same signal some other thing that's happening it's like oh we got to do this we're going help these people oh there's a thing we got to do this it's like oh there's a voice disembodied voice oh we're going to help with this got an eye on my forehead I got an eye on my forehead now. Here's an on my forehead. Here's an actor that you've never seen before in the MCU. This person's now in the MCU. Oh, wow. Crazy. It's like, oh, and then they never go back to it for like 10 years. Like, what is this? Why are they doing this repeatedly?
Speaker: that Those are the two pieces of, before we wrap this up, this is the moral of the story for this episode. Okay. Moral. Not really because we didn't talk about it throughout, but here's what I'll say. There's two things the MCU needs to fix.
Speaker: but Other than obviously always have a good plot. That's obvious, but that that should be the same for every movie you ever make. So that's an answer there. But the the two things they need to fix, they need to have the power metrics set up so that every character, and I said this, I talked about power metrics earlier. So now actually i can pull this together because I didn't talk about what power metrics meant.
Speaker: Power metrics means each character has different power abilities and they some are stronger than others. And it's important for them to match up in certain terms of the physics of the world That's and super important that the plot matches the power of each of the characters.
Speaker: They have to make sure that matters. The second thing they need to do is literally just make the end credit scenes make actually get followed up and followed through eventually. like Stop teasing things.
Speaker: Otherwise, just make it a funny thing, like the gag at the end of the first Deadpool movie where he comes out and pretends he's Ferris Bueller. That's good. Just do that. That's what I would do. Or the one at the in the middle, the mid-credits scene in Thunderbolts. That was great, too.
Speaker: I won't say what it is, because that would be a sport. But like I think that you don't have to make it some crazy, mind-blowing teaser. that's Yeah, they're just throwing spaghetti at the wall.
Speaker: They wanted to see which what would stick. Yeah, let's see which one like shares is shared the most on like the YouTube channel. Like, oh, this scene is the the most shared scene. I guess we're going to follow through on this. Like, no, that's not how you did it initially. Don't do that.
Speaker: Like, make sure you got your power metrics set up properly. Know which characters are more powerful than others and choreograph fights based on that. And make sure you don't end credit like do the end credits scenes like a freaking...
Speaker: chaotic mess. Anyway, that's it. This is it. This is it for episode 109. We've gone on way too long past the, a look to the future segment here. So let's go. Thank you, Adrian, for joining me. I appreciate you.
Speaker: I appreciate you. if If the audience wants to listen to us every, every two weeks, we launched episodes every two weeks on Tuesdays. Thank you for listening to episode 109 of split focus, a film and TV podcast.
Speaker: My name is Simon Eadie and this is Adrian Pettit signing off. Yeah. um So before this episode began, i actually had to replace the the the the fridge water filter.
Speaker: And I like, got stuck. And that's actually one of the reasons why I was late, Simon, to this episode. I was pushing so hard on this fridge water filter. It was stuck. I had to turn off the water like line going to the fridge in my crawl space.
Speaker: I was pushing so hard that my wrists hurt both of them because I was I was pushing so hard and I don't I feel like there I like tore them my wrist muscles. um taking this fridge filter out, but I did, I did take it out and I did replace it.
Speaker: And, um, but i had to like run the water for like five minutes.
