Speaker: This episode, we review the final season of The Bear. We discuss the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe along with the newly released Avengers Doomsday and Spooderman trailers. And we talk Netflix stonks and God of War series Kratos recasting. With new episodes airing every two weeks on Tuesdays, this is Split Focus, a film and TV podcast. I'm Adrian Pinter. And I'm Simon Eadie.
Speaker: Welcome to episode 141. Welcome episode 141. bold
Speaker: Okay, let's get right into it, Adrian. I've got a correction from last episode here. I've got ah i've got ah this idea that I feel like I just didn't fully realize when I was talking last episode. And I just want to make sure that comes off here, okay?
Speaker: We talked about last episode and the and the episode before in some capacity, but the Supergirl movie, right? Yes? Yes? Yes. yes Yeah, we did. We did. Okay. The Supergirl movie... It was test screened to hell, it seems like. It seemed it teamly was test screened multiple times. They made a, they bake off. They had James Gunn's cut and director Craig Gillespie's cut and they went, you know, head to head. And there's lots of test screens. And I did some research about test screening that I think you might be interested in. I don't know, maybe you won't be. Maybe you'll be like, I might be eyes glazed. don't find out but Let's find out if I'm going to be interested. Well, we're going to find out. OK, so basically, here's what I discovered. First of all, i just want to say that weirdly, right after we recorded our episode, like right after is George Lucas.
Speaker: i don't know if you saw this. George Lucas, like right after we recorded, he said the test screen suck. Basically, he said, quote, I don't like focus groups. The audience doesn't know what they want to see. If they don't like a character that's interesting, and as a filmmaker, I want to find out why. But when the studios hear that, they take the wrong message. They let the audience actually make the movie.
Speaker: Of course, now they go crazy with that. Now it's all about what the fans think. That isn't how you make the movie. You make a movie by finding someone that knows how to make movies, that has a story to tell and is passionate about it. Unquote. I completely agree with George Lucas here.
Speaker: This is exactly what I think. That's what I was trying to say when I was talking about it the first week when we talked about Supergirl, when we reviewed it the first time. that They test screened that movie to hell, and I just guessed.
Speaker: is I thought it just doesn't make sense. like The plot seems all over the place. It looks like they just had like – it was made by committee. But I just don't think you can make movies quite like that. You have to have kind of like a a firm hand of people who are – creatives with the director at the helm.
Speaker: That's kind of my thought process. and I think George Lucas believes the same. Interestingly, Adrian, and this is where i was going to i was going to tell you like little interesting facts that you might want to know. Rogue One, which I had mentioned last week, was test screened, and then they brought Tony Gilroy in to fix it, apparently wasn't test screened. The only reason they figured out, it was it was test screened. It was test screened by the executives. It wasn't actually test screened, apparently, by any public audiences.
Speaker: So they brought Tony Gilroy in because they test screened it. The executive saw was like, there's something wrong with this. And they brought Tony Gilroy in. He watched it. guess somebody knew Tony Gilroy, Michael Clayton director, Tony Gilroy. and And they had him watch the movie. And then he quote unquote said,
Speaker: he quote unquote said This is a corpse on the table, which is pretty o which is pretty ah strong language. And so that was basically what happened. And then they basically said, well, what would you do to fix it? And he's like, well, it structurally is a problem. i don't like so I don't know what Star Wars, I don't really watch Star Wars, I don't know Star Wars, but I know from a structural perspective how to write this and make this work. I think you have something here, it's just not good as in its current state.
Speaker: so he They're like, you want to rewrite and reshoot this film in some capacity, do some reshoots, fix it. And he said, yeah. And obviously the rest is history because he made Andor and it's ah ah it's amazing. So they didn't test screen it with more than really a creative, which is a pretty good idea. When you test screen it with the public,
Speaker: I think that's a problem in in many respects because they don't know how to make a movie. So I don't know that that's really particularly helpful. But if you text test screen it with experts, it might be helpful in that regard. The other piece of ah information i I found I researched up was the MCU doesn't really do test screening.
Speaker: They do it, but they don't do it in the way that James Gunn seems to be doing it based on what I've kind of been reading. The MCU has like a test screening audience of internal test screeners.
Speaker: So they basically, they call it friends and family test screeners. So they have people that will go and watch the film. Films, there's like so many of them, and they kind of just like give notes on it that way.
Speaker: And the producers seem to so understand that the test screen isn't everything at the end for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Like like they they think, well, we're going to fix it based on these numbers, but it it isn't everything.
Speaker: I found some of this information from a Hollywood Reporter article that also mentioned some of the test screening scores. Like for instance, Pretty Woman. Julie Roberts, the Julie Roberts film in which it scored only a 70.
Speaker: And that like, like completely exploded her career. Like it exploded in a positive way, like trajectory up, like exploded like a rocket kind of thing. If know I'm saying. So it really helped career out that film.
Speaker: So anyway, I just found that interesting. I feel like it's like the blind leading the blind, having test audiences just to decide what a movie, oh, this movie's broken. It's like, are you sure Craig was wrong? I don't know that that's true. And so my more like the the moral of the story from my perspective is I think the director's intent matters. And I'm wondering whether the DCU, the DC universe might be in the wrong direction on a film's perspective, because if James Gunn doesn't direct it, he's got a distinct filmmaking style from a superhero movie perspective. Mm-hmm. His movies have largely been the same tonally.
Speaker: So I am kind of curious. Does it have to be completely different like Clayface for him to like go hands off? Like, I don't make movies like that. But then then then again, he kind of does kind of make movies like that. He's made like horror movies in the past, but they're kind of in campy, like Slither.
Speaker: So maybe... I don't know. I'm just kind of curious. I'm not worried about lanterns. I feel like there's lots of great creators at the helm there. And I don't know the test screening audiences are really a big part of that. it's ah Making TV shows is different.
Speaker: and They might be a part of it, but in a different capacity. That I didn't research. i'm not I'm not sure about that one. but it's It's just interesting to see how that movie seemed to be just chopped up. The Supergirl movie, I'm saying.
Speaker: Chopped up and re-put together in like a weird mashup of weird puzzle pieces. And I feel like that's the issue with that movie is that they just didn't trust the creator's intent.
Speaker: And I wonder if the audiences in a public test screening really know what to look for. Do they know what a good movie looks like necessarily? You know what I'm saying? Oh my God.
Speaker: Excuse me, i was i was I was getting ready to talk and I immediately choked. Yes. Oh my jeez Louise, dude. Oh, you're you're going to pause for a drink now. Oh, okay You're going to choking. You're going to drink before?
Speaker: Well, I didn't know. I i choked as I tried tried to spoke and now I need to take take a little bit of yeah the water down the throat. Anyways, what were we just talking about?
Speaker: he getting yeah super jail I just talked for six minutes straight about it. I know I got bored. Come on. I think it's an interesting topic, but you delivered it poorly. Oh, wow. Okay. um No, it it is very interesting. um i I get where you're coming from. Like,
Speaker: From the perspective of, yeah, like let creators be creators because I i agree with you 100%. I would rather just get the creator's vision than a movie made by committee. um Even if that, you know, movie might suck. At the end of the day, at least that was the director's intent and we know, you know, what they were trying to go for. Yeah, I think to be fair, though, I do think test screening is important, but you test screen with creative like creatives. Other creatives. That's what Christopher Nolan does. he He gets friends and like friends, people in the industry to look at a movie like the Odyssey and then help him out with notes.
Speaker: But his vision is ultimately the final say. And I think that's the way to do it. Sorry to interrupt you. Yeah, as opposed to going, you know, to just some random viewership because like what does the audience know? and They don't know the process of creating a movie. They don't know what they want, really. They don't necessarily know what a good movie is. Yeah. um Yeah, I think the audience has proven time and time again that yeah they cannot be trusted unless they agree with me exactly, in which case they can be trusted. Yeah. Right.
Speaker: So, yeah, i find that very interesting. I just it is a shame, though, like yeah with with Supergirl, i'm I'm feeling very confident about what's still to come in the D.C.U. I hope, you know, Supergirl was just a, you know, a misstep. Yeah. um And, you know, the rest is is great. I think Clayface looks awesome. Again, Lanterns is is very promising. And then hopefully Superman.
Speaker: the next Superman movie is going to be up there. I'm just curious what's to come after, right? Like, cause I don't think like, do we know what the next movie is post Superman? Not that I remember. Cause Jameson gave like a big ass list of a bunch of stuff that he's already canceled. Some of the projects on, I think creature commandos season two probably will come after that, but it is just kind of movies is the issue though. yeah I think that the TV shows are fine. creature commandos a show. So i think that would probably be, be just fine.
Speaker: Yeah, i'm not I'm not worried. And again, that's headed by James Gunn again. Right. that's um So, yeah, I'm curious what we're going to get, because again, apart from Clayface, I don't really know because there was the authority movie, which again, James Gunn was going to funnily enough do.
Speaker: There's that Themyscira show show. Yeah, that they're working on. I don't know if that's still to come or not. Yeah, um there's a few other things, but i I can't for the life of me think of a single other movie except for Batman, the brave and the bold that he was talking about.
Speaker: But again, like i he also mentioned, i think recently that he doesn't want to step on Matt Reeves, his toes. So they're not going to do that movie until at least the Batman part two is out. If I recall correctly, if I read online recently, so it's just like, i don't know, where are you going with this man? I hate to be that guy and, and and spread dread, but ah I don't know. I'm just not feeling super confident about post Superman, the second Superman movie that's going to come out by him.
Speaker: So I really, I really want there to be a little bit more of a vision and a little bit more of direction. um I just kind of, I don't, I think you got to let these creators cook though at the same time. Like you can't, i mean, that's why the MCU was, was really like it, you know, ah was off to a rock and start it. Yeah. Dead follow a similar formula, but again, Jon Favreau coming in doing his, uh,
Speaker: his movie there. um And then eventually getting, you know, the Russo brothers in there doing like Winter Soldier. Oh my God, I keep on choking, getting Peyton Reed in for like Ant-Man and stuff like that. And you just let like these creators do their stuff. I guess Ant-Man actually is in a great direction because they sorry, a great example because they had Edgar Wright in there originally and they didn't want to go his direction. So.
Speaker: um I just feel like, yeah, i don't know. i I want this to be successful. I really, really love Superman. I love Peacemaker. I love creature commandos. I'm sure I like green ah lanterns and, you know, Clayface by all accounts looks awesome. So I want there. I want this to be successful.
Speaker: Well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Yes, indeed.
Speaker: Indeed, sir. All right. Well, I guess we could just quit get right into what we've been watching this bi-week, eh? You want to start with the things you've been watching, sir? Yeah, why not, dude? You need to take a short break?
Speaker: Maybe. i don't know. I don't want you to die here with line for lack of oxygen. i might. I keep on. There's like a thing in my throat, you know like a little tickle in my throat. i some major i was I made dinner.
Speaker: And then I had to like scarf it down very quickly because I was running late. I'm a late, I'm late Adrian. And I was doing kimchi rice, but I usually like when I do kimchi rice, I'll usually use like a pork loin or something, right? And then I'll like, and thinly sliced pork.
Speaker: And I'll like velvet it so I can just like flash cook the meat. But this time I had pork belly in my fridge cut into chunks. Sorry, in my freezer cut into chunks that I took out. So when I velveted it and I cooked it quickly, it was just it was not as tender as I wanted it to be. So I had to kind of shift the way I was doing it. That's why it took longer than expected. And I had to braise the meat to like cook it down a little bit and make it a little bit tender.
Speaker: And then since I was braising it, this typically doesn't have like a like a like a lot of like, you know, I mean, there's a sauce, but it's not like a sauce like this. So i had to kind of pivot and make like a, you know, a miso gochujang like sauce, you know, make sure that i was going to cook it down in.
Speaker: And then. um You know. Anyways. Oh, and then i then I scarfed it down quickly, you know, with the rice and then feel like maybe there's just like a like a little rice, little rice in my throat and it's making me feel Not all rice, you know?
Speaker: Not all rice. yeah Wow. that was Was it worth it? this Was it worth it? Maybe. um Maybe. Because I thought that the punchline literally seconds before saying it. I know you. I get it.
Speaker: but Yeah. You want me to say what I watched? You want me to tell you what I've been watching? I would love it. Yeah. Dude. Okay. Sorry. i didn't watch too much in the in this bi-week, dude. um But I did watch a film that we talked about that that had universal praise.
Speaker: Okay. um It's on Amazon Prime Video, and it's written by Chernobyl's writer Craig Mazin, as well as the writer of The Last of Us TV series.
Speaker: Craig Mazin, as I just said. He wrote The Sheep Detectives. And ah if you've listened to the show, if if you know me personally, you know my opinions of the way The Last of Us season two specifically, how it was written. I'm not a fan of it. I think they they they ah I love The Last of Us Part two as a video game. I'm i'm very ah protective of of that.
Speaker: Um, well not protective is the right word, but I love that the way it's told. And I think the adjustments that Craig Mazin made in season two made me not love it and made me feel like he didn't have a fundamental understanding of what made the last us part two. So special and so great.
Speaker: Um, but the sheep detectives is, I think something original. Maybe it's based on a book. Uh, I forget what it says at the start of the movie and this movie is genuinely like awesome. It is so darn good. It's about this shepherd that lives in a small town that reads detective novels to his flock of sheep.
Speaker: And one night, he is murdered. And the sheep, who can talk to one another and and communicate, decide that they want to solve this.
Speaker: this mystery of who killed their shepherd. So this movie is, is, is quite comedic just based on that premise alone. But, you know, throughout the movie, it's, ah it is honestly quite funny. There's, there's a lot of good gags with these sheep just kind of mucking about.
Speaker: And there's this, again, like this backdrop of this like silly whodunit comedy. But at the end of the day, what this movie has, Simon,
Speaker: is heart, is heart. And it's not only about this this this flock of sheep that's that's backed by an all-star cast, you know, trying to solve the the mystery of who killed their shepherd, but it's about the importance of life And how important it is to, you know, remember the people close to you and, you know, keep their memory, you know, the people that have passed on and keep their memory with you. um And that it's okay to mourn those that, you know, that came before you.
Speaker: And you should remember that even though it's painful.
Speaker: And OK, it's awesome. I loved it um again. All star cast. ah You know, Brian Cranston is is one of the the main sheep in it. He's awesome in it. You know, Emma Thompson is in it. She plays like this, like a lawyer lady that shows up who's essentially reading the will of the shepherd. like Hugh Jackman is the shepherd, you know, reading the will to, you know, a wild cast of characters. Bella Ramsey's in it. And she plays speaking to The Last of Us.
Speaker: Um, she plays one of the little sheep and she's just like this funny little, um, sheep lady, Patrick Stewart, Reese Darby, Regina Hall, Brett Goldstein. um again, amazing cast.
Speaker: And, um, I just, I just highly recommend this movie, you know, going for just like a fun time and just, you know, like understand that, you know, that there is, there is more to life.
Speaker: Um, and that you should remember those, you know, that passed away and, and, um, Yeah, man. It's good stuff. It's good stuff. Pain is okay sometimes.
Speaker: You know? The pain is worth it.
Speaker: you what I'm saying? Sure. Okay. Yeah. It's good movie, though, yeah. Sheep. Yeah, great movie. Great movie. Hugh Jackman is the shepherd.
Speaker: It's cool stuff. He's the shepherd. He is the shepherd. And he's dead. He is dead. Not at the start of the movie. He's still around. But in the first 10 minutes.
Speaker: But in the first 10 minutes, he dead. Yeah. um And again, this is stuff this is in all the trailers and stuff. But again, this is ah a situation where where the audience is right because it matches exactly what the critics say. And it matches what I believe. You know, it's a 95 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, 96 percent audience meter or popper meter, whatever they call it now.
Speaker: And um yeah, really good, really good stuff. And ah yeah, again, I got to go and watch Chernobyl because again, like I am. I haven't seen too much of Craig Mason stuff again, apart from The Last of Us. And I like season one of The Last of Us. I just think season two is, you know, I'm not a fan of you know where the direction he went.
Speaker: um And then, you know, now I've watched this and that's great. And by all accounts, Chernobyl is freaking awesome. So I should I should go there. I should go there and watch Chernobyl in Chernobyl.
Speaker: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Go live there. Go live there for a week and watch Chernobyl, the show on HBO. Good idea. I will. I will. And I'll get Starlink so i can stream it on my cellular device.
Speaker: Okay. Yeah, that's great. Should I that? Anything else you watched this bi-week, sir? Yeah, I've watched two other things. I'm doing a rewatch of Community, actually, Simon. Oh, wow. um My wife hasn't watched Community. um So her and I, you know, decided to kind of we want something easy to just kind of put on while we eat, have a meal.
Speaker: You know, you can kind of easily binge watch it. We watch the first season of Community within these last two weeks. And man, the community is a special show, dude. So it's created by Dan Harmon, really great cast, you know, came out in, I think it was 2009 and ran until 2015, something like that.
Speaker: um And it's just, This is a show that still holds up to this day, but funnily enough is dated in a lot of ways. um Like their use of like, i think about a show like Arrested Development, the first three seasons specifically that I, that I watched not too long ago. And that show, oddly enough, feels less dated and more relevant to today than community does in a lot of ways. And I think what has to do with that is that community takes place at a community college. Yeah.
Speaker: And they're constantly like bringing up, you know, pop culture topics of that time it. to yeah you know, to, to great comedic effect, but again, it, it, it dates the show in a lot of ways, you know, they pull out their like flip phones constantly. um you know, there's an episode where Abed is, um Batman and he's doing, uh, Christopher Nolan, like the dark night Batman, as opposed to Robert Pattinson, uh, Batman, just little things like that, where it just, again, it sets it in this like time capsule of when that, uh, when that show came out.
Speaker: Um, The one thing that I kind of forgot about, I always remember that like Joe and Anthony Russo were, you know, a part of community directed quite a few episodes. I totally forgot, like they are like executive producers on at least the entire first season and probably second season, because I think they were in the credits of the second season as well. And they direct a lot of the episodes, which is funny because, again, they have now gone on to create one of the biggest movies of all time and in Avengers Endgame.
Speaker: And presumably Avengers Doomsday. um But yeah, man, I just think the show, although it's dated in a lot of ways, still holds up. um It's incredibly just it's just so funny, dude. Like it's so good. I always remember season four kind of sucking.
Speaker: Um, and I think I rewatched the show within the last, i don't know six, seven years. And I remember rewatching season four. It's a noticeable downgrade. That's, uh, the, the gas leak season as they acknowledge it in. And that was when Dan Harmon got fired and they changed writers and all of that stuff. Um,
Speaker: So I'm not looking forward to getting a season four, but five and six are really good. So, you know, six seasons in a movie. I'm very excited to continue watching this. I love it. You love community too, right? I i sort of yeah watched it. Okay. I just want to make sure.
Speaker: Yeah. I really hope they make that movie. I know they talked about making that movie at some point. It comes up every once in a while with some of the cast. Yeah. On occasion. I wonder if they're going to get that going at some point.
Speaker: Yeah. Hopefully. Yeah. yeah I feel like within the last year, there were like a lot more talks about it and it seemed closer than ever. And then it kind of kind of went silent again. I don't know if it was like Joel McHale talking about it on a podcast or maybe it was like when all of them got together on camera and they were doing like a like a table read of one of the episodes.
Speaker: I can't remember. Did they do that? They did that, I think, during COVID. Oh, I feel like they talked about it like post COVID, like again, a couple times. So I'm trying to trying to remember but doesn't really yeah it came up it came up with this year I think maybe within the last 365 days I think okay but again it's just like they're like small comments like yeah we're working on it or something like that they're they're working on a script or something along those lines more so than yeah it's coming out next year or something they're not saying that they're just saying it's it's in in pre pre-production or something yeah so we'll get it soon cool hopefully eventually yeah
Speaker: And then the last thing I watched, Simon, is The Bear, the final season of The Bear. Nice. I have completed it fully. Oh, okay. I know you were watching it last last time we spoke. Did you finish it? Yeah. I didn't. No, I'm on the last episode coming up.
Speaker: Okay, right on. Yeah, i watched the last episode yesterday, if I recall correctly, because i was planning I wanted to get it done before this episode, but obviously you don't care as much as I do. To discuss it. it's It's okay, though. Don't worry about it.
Speaker: um I think the bear season five is remarkable. um It is a wonderful final season of television. And this show is is nearly perfect all throughout. I think season three is the weakest season.
Speaker: um But even though it's the weakest, it's not a bad season of television at all. And i I think what they did with season five, almost like this this this shift. You brought this up last time ah we spoke about it, but this shift in timeline how how the how the season plays out, um is really good. And it it it has that same level of anxiety that they that they did in you know like season one and and then the first couple seasons. But there is this underlying feeling of hope
Speaker: the entire so final season. And it just, again, it just sticks the landing. It's remarkable. I think Christopher store just nailed it with this, with the show. And I'm so curious what he's going to go on to make it if he does have plans to make something else. Cause I'm going to follow this guy anywhere because I think the bear is genuinely one of the great TV shows of our generation.
Speaker: Um, as a fan of, you know, food and someone that's worked in the restaurant and this industry back in the day, never to, to this level. Um, it's, it's just really cool to see it kind of come to life on screen. And everyone in the show is just such a real human being.
Speaker: There's not this like wackiness, this, this over the top drama. It's just people being people in this situation. And I just, I just really liked it. Um,
Speaker: I think it's really funny too. guess there is like a wackiness element in it because again, there's definitely over the top wackiness. Yeah. Some of the characters are, are, are, are very wacky in a lot of ways. Um, I don't know what you're comparing it to when you're saying that maybe you're thinking of something in particular, but I, yeah, that it is pretty wacky, but it is grounded in, in, in many ways too. Yeah. It just feels real. It just feels real.
Speaker: Sure. Sure. And again, there are some, again, weirdo characters, but it's like, I've run into people like that before. Sure. Um, But are you comparing it to something else when you say that? Is that why you're saying it like that?
Speaker: No, I mean, i no, not not exactly. oh Because I agree it's grounded and there's like there is it is funny. It's funny because we talk about how it's not a comedy and everyone jokes. Oh, the the bear shouldn't be in the comedy category.
Speaker: But it is pretty funny throughout. It's constantly pretty funny and and it's grounded. It could be. It's a dramedy, essentially. Yeah. Yeah. but And um yeah, I loved it. i I think this is because we've had a ah string of shows that just simply haven't you know stuck the landing. um you know People talk about Stranger Things, not Hidden Land. I like the ending of Stranger Things. I'm i'm in the minority on that one. for At least that's what it seems like. I'm in the minority.
Speaker: I don't know when you listen to people online. it might be the vocal minority. Who knows? But again, I like at least based on perception um and like people I've spoken to in my life.
Speaker: I think I'm in the minority on that. I did like the ending of Stranger Things. um But the boys did you wait? I remember you mentioned that you started watching the boys. Did you finish it? Just finished it. That's my one thing I was going to talk about here. OK, because I think the boys like I don't like the boys from pretty much season three on.
Speaker: And I think it I did. I feel like it failed at the at the landing. So I'm going to pass this over to you, man. Like, talk to me about the boys, because I'm very curious what you think, because I think the final season in particular and the final episode even is is very plot holy.
Speaker: and i don't agree. Inconsistent. I don't know what you mean. Oh, really? Okay. I'm curious. Okay. What what do you think about it? Well, i can't spoil it. So I'm not sure what you've even been referring to. i was thinking about it while I was watching the finale. I'm like, this is fine.
Speaker: this This is not the best show ever. It never was, even from the beginning. um So I just, it's it to me, they stuck the landing for what they have because it's what oh the show is. yeah There's no issue at all. I have no i have no absolutely no qualms with it other than like it's the same wackiness as it was from the beginning that I That's crazy.
Speaker: i'm I'm honestly shocked about that because I think there I don't even remember what it was. It's been so long now. It's been like a couple of months, but I feel like there was a lot of elements where I'm just like, oh, this is a plot hole. The inconsistencies of the power, um the power structure, the power. That's always been the same. That's been the same since the beginning, I think.
Speaker: For the boys, pretty sure that's always been an issue. and Like for for a few seasons, at the very least, it's been a problem. They've always had that issue, but it's not. The problem with it is that you can't really think that is a plot hole because you don't know what they do because they never define it. And that's like that's just laziness. But that's not a plot hole. That's just lazy. It's like the MCU has that power metric issue.
Speaker: um that I've talked about about before, but I don't really consider that a whole. more so Like Captain Marvel was way too powerful, but we don't know what she does. To this day, I still don't know what she does. I don't know what any of the Marvels in the movie The Marvels can do. I don't i don't know. And that makes that problematic because the movie's called The Marvels, so it's completely about that.
Speaker: But Homelander is incredibly powerful, but it's not quite defined. And I don't, I don't, they do define it. They show you what his powers are in the show. They show you that he, that he's, he's in this same season that he is like faster than one of the fastest men alive in this universe.
Speaker: Yeah. um And they, they show him having x-ray vision at one point and then some, and they just pick and choose when this guy has those powers. When he uses them, when he uses them. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah, like to be fair again, like there's 110 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. It's a 93% for the fifth season. So you're not in the majority on that, but you're certainly with the audience. I just agree with the critics. And I usually agree with the critics. I just don't... I don't know.
Speaker: I don't know what it is. I just don't... I don't i don't find it... It's not... It's not amazing, certainly. like I'm sure the Metacritic score is much lower, but I just don't see the issue more so than previous seasons. And the issue that you kept bringing up, I just don't agree with at all. so i don't really like if's you You kept saying the politics just is too too similar to today. is's like I don't care about that, though. That's not a problem for me at all. like That just is irrelevant.
Speaker: I have a fairly open mind when it comes to that. So I don't really mind that element of it, of being political and being a kind of a satire of what we're dealing with today, even though today is ridiculous. That was kind of your issue. Yeah, well, yeah, I think my issue with it is that the satire is not even as wacky as what's actually happening.
Speaker: and It's like when you're trying to do a political satire, it's like pretty it's pretty crazy. Yeah. Murder in the streets in the show is not quite murder in the streets to this level. yeah i mean, it's it's bad in the United States, but it's not it's not that obviously. So it's ah yeah, I don't know. It's it's it's kind of trying to do what they're they're trying to be a satire of what's happening in United States today. But um yeah, i don't know. yeah I'm not that critical of it. I like it. Again, it's not the best finale ever, but i thought I thought it was cool. Yeah, I'd have to. I don't know. Again, without spoiling, I'm not sure what you're referring to other than the power metrics thing, which I agree with.
Speaker: But again, they've been having the same problem for seasons at at a time. like you don't It's so weird because these characters, there's there's ah it's funny because the boys is kind of like the the the video game Far Cry.
Speaker: It's kind of like, what are we doing here? these like These characters, this group of terrorists, essentially, who are going after the real terrorists, who are the the superheroes, who are like power hungry, crazy people, basically led by Homelander. um Like they they just seem to survive. And you know that because if you watch any trailer, like Carl Orban is always in the show, basically. So as season after season, you can see him on the he's on the post like he's on like the the marquee for the show. So it's like, you know, he's he's living in some way. At least he's in the show somehow. So it's kind of an interesting thing. Like, i don't want to talk about the other characters, but he's always on the thing.
Speaker: So it's like, what the hell? How is it that Homelander wouldn't just kill this guy? Like right away in the first episode. You know what i mean? Like how does he not? So how how is it consistent? Like the guy has x-ray vision and he doesn't just go after these people immediately. It's bizarre or right away. In the first two episode of the TV show, The Boys. It's not like season one is any different than season five. It's the same shit. The thing i like about season five though is that and this is an indictment of the rest of the show, theoretically, is that it actually closes out the show. like They actually are finding solutions finally. there's like There's an element of all these seasons, they've done nothing really.
Speaker: They've kind of found solutions and they failed certainly, but there's like only one, i can only think of really one major solution that they found. that was like kind of a good idea. The rest of the work kind of like, yeah, we're trying. and I'm like, how what do you mean you're trying? You have to like draw this out for five seasons. Like we know you're trying to do that. Like it's almost like a sitcom. You know how like each episode has got to go reset back to the what it was before. yeah I always get it back to the status quo.
Speaker: Yeah, I always think about the even Stevens episode. There's this episode where they find this crazy Indiana Jones thing in their basement. You ever watch that? It's like the golden hot dog in their basement. you You remember that episode?
Speaker: Yeah, I think so. Yeah, that rings a bell. But it's like ah crazy because it's this golden hot dog like that would make them millionaires. they feel like they're pretty well off that family. But anyway, but like they they they go on this like their journey through their basement in this these caverns that are again like Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. And they're trying to get like this golden hot dog. And of course, they don't get it at the end because they can't change the show fundamentally the next episode. Anyway.
Speaker: um yeah it's fine i i just say it's it's okay i like it because it's entertaining it's meant to be this is almost more of a comedy than in some way than the bear but those are no 100 i feel like the boys is meant to be a comedy and again it's it for me how long is for me i just i just think the comment put me how long are the episodes Oh, I guess it's an hour. Touche. Touche. You got me there. um But yeah, like I think it's meant to be a comedy in a lot of ways. I just think the comedy sucks. And I think the writing is i mean, it's again been inconsistent or, you know, been like this. I feel like in season, especially season four, maybe even season three. I'm trying to remember. It's been so long, but I just feel like everyone ends up being like, oh, insert random.
Speaker: one like vulgar one line lineer here. And it's so it's so grating and annoying. And what they do with one character in in particular this season.
Speaker: is so stupid, like right off the bat. i' talking about I mean, I'll just I'll just mention the character that they do. you the decision what The decision they make with Kimiko for this season is awful.
Speaker: They change her character's personality based on them being able to do this one thing. A year went by. You're a grown-ass adult. Your personality doesn't change like that in one year, dude. yeah This woman's older than I am.
Speaker: ah Like, she's not going to just change her personality after one year. It's stupid. And the way her personality is is just, it does not the character. don't think it was similar when she's speaking in sign? Like, she's using a...
Speaker: oh No, it's it's not similar at all. ah Yeah, I just think that that's awful. And then yeah and then again, I feel like with the ending of the show, again, I won't talk about it specifically, but it ends ah honestly the exact same way that season three.
Speaker: could have ended, but they just decided to incort like continue this story for two more seasons. But the plan at the end of season five is identical, arguably worse thought out than the plan at the end of season three. And it is just so it's a waste of time. I think I felt like this show was like actually a waste of time for those final. But that's the point I made right away. Like why doesn't a Homelander just go after? It doesn't make any sense. None of it. It's kind of a strange thing.
Speaker: TV show. It's Far Cry, but with superheroes.
Speaker: Yeah, I guess. ah Yeah. I mean, I guess you could say that. But yeah, I just I just think it's. But also the world is the is the island. You know, the world is the whole island, except it's not. It's just America because we don't know what's happening anywhere else because they're doing the boys Mexico, aren't they?
Speaker: Oh, are they? Oh, cool. I swear to God, this was announced like a year. It wasn't isn't Diego Luna a part of it. something like it. Oh, is he okay? i don't remember the boys, Mexico. I don't think we talked about it on this podcast.
Speaker: Yeah. It's an upcoming spinoff set in Mexico city, a Spanish language, uh, show Diego Luna's and Gail Garcia Bernal are executive producing it. So I don't know if they're going to actually be like, I don't know if it was going to be in it. Okay.
Speaker: Um, And then, yeah, very very clearly they were trying to set up the spinoff, the Vought Rising spinoff in this show too. That I didn't notice too much, which is interesting.
Speaker: But again, people talk about it a lot. So like there's an element of it being in the zeitgeist. So it just comes off that way. That's what I kind of felt like. it just I find it's that that's to me, you talk about stranger things. I just don't understand what people don't like that much. I don't get it. I fundamentally don't get it. And I think maybe it's because I'm not online as much.
Speaker: I do think there's a like again, I've talked about this like this weird term like the distortion field like it it affects everyone. Everyone gets like affected by this idea that like people have this opinion and therefore they everyone's opinion is like skewed because of other people's opinion.
Speaker: Like why is it the critic score is so high for the boys, but then the popcorn meter is so low is because everyone talked to each other and they all came to the same conclusion. That's what love. Those reviews also came prior to the show finishing. Exactly. Because the critics watched it first. Did they watch all the episodes before reviewing the final season? I don't know how works. did. Because I feel like a lot of the... Yeah, don't know. But again, don't... It depends the I think. But dude, I watched Stranger Things as everyone else watched it. And I'm on... I'm part of the camp that I really liked this shit, like Stranger Things. I was super satisfied with the conclusion.
Speaker: And I wasn't a part of that. Like... The boys, I just don't think has been a good show for the last, honestly, three seasons. Yeah. And I'm not saying you're part of the distortion field, but I'm just saying that that's when I'm looking at this number, 49% versus 93. I'm like, how is it so off? And I think the reason it's off in this case or for stranger things is a great example.
Speaker: It's like, oh, Stranger Things, it's because there's going to be another episode. It's because there's going to be another episode. It's like, okay, the expectations are the thief of joy. You believe there's another episode at the end of the finale when they claim there's a finale. You didn't like it because you just want something else.
Speaker: It's like, that's not really reality. Just because somebody wrote another plot on YouTube, like it should have gone like this. It's like, I agree. it doesn't mean that's what it is. It's just... i don't I don't like that idea. It's just a criminally, kind of like terminally online behavior that just ends up skewing and making things bad. You know what's interesting? It actually comes back to what you talked about before. um When you talked about the sheep detective, the sheep detective is an amazing example. Who had high expectations for the sheep detectives?
Speaker: No one, dude. No one. Because nobody knows what that really is. I mean, there's a book, but it's like nobody's watching that like they're watching Stranger Things. Like the hype for Stranger Things after drawing out their seasons like years on years on years. Imagine the ending is never going to satisfy anyone.
Speaker: What did they want? They wanted what they wanted, what their fan theory said on Reddit. We just talked about like I just talked about the bear and I think the bear is incredibly satisfying. It's not of of the level of stranger things.
Speaker: Yeah, I know. like It's not on the on that level, but it's still. Yeah, I mean, the bear has been consistently great. um The bear is also not watched by people who are not like I i don't know anyone who's watched the bear ba barely. I know a few people, but yeah, fair enough.
Speaker: Like it's like a level of stranger thing. It's kind of an art house thing. Art house things just fare better in general. But zeitgeisty things like the boys and stranger things. No. It's just the nature of it, especially if you draw out the seasons. The Bear also had pretty quick success succession seasons. Five seasons pretty much in five years. like They got it done pretty quickly. They had a little bit of a gap between, what was it, two and three?
Speaker: But other than that, they knocked out seasons really in rapid succession, which helped them a lot. But also, people just don't watch the Bear who are not... like You and i right? We watch a lot of TV shows and we kind of see the the light in in the creation of these, especially from a writing perspective. To go back to the bear real quick, I am on the last episode. I just finished episode seven.
Speaker: episode Episode seven is like unbelievable. The whole show is crazy. Season five is like basically a movie in TV show form. It's a completely, and I haven't seen the last episode, so maybe they'll not stick the landing. But if you look at like how it's built, it's built like we fully realized exactly from start to finish every single episode and how it plays into the rest of the season. We talked about how the timeline is very specific as well.
Speaker: But it's it's so interesting because it's like even like season four, I really like it, but it's kind of the pacing is weird. This is like a paced movie, essentially. Every episode is like it's moving at a similar pace for every episode. Even season two, which has one of the best episodes of TV I've ever seen. That's that that season is got like it's again, it got a weird pacing and that's just the nature of it. That's what's great about TV shows. Actually, you can change up the pacing all you want because that's the nature of it. Every episode can have its own pacing. But this, there's something like very cohesive about this particular season. And it's also to do with like, not only the way it's shot and the way it's acted and the way like everyone's, everything seems to be coming together in some capacity for the whole show, but also in the plot in some ways. um It's almost like a fighter movie, like the fighter or like Rocky. And that looks like the whole show kind of feels like that. Like they're like, obviously in the previous seasons, they're just trying to, bring up the prestige of this restaurant called the bear and you can you can see them going through ups and downs mostly downs and there's an element of like this season like they're getting some successes which is nice which i've had in other seasons but it's nice to see them kind of gain some momentum and say instead of just like Because this it beats you down, this show. There's a lot of anxiety and it's depressing and in some element. And so this this last season, I feel like it just, it feels like, ah again, a a fighting movie, like ah like almost like The Dark Knight Rises or something. You know what i get it feels There's something uplifting about it more so than the other seasons. But also, I talked about this last episode, Hans Zimmer's producing for the score is really noticeable. Like, I gotta say, the last episode...
Speaker: Really great music again, and it's distinct enough from the way the other previous episodes are, but also, again, overall, it's cohesive, um and it feels like it's just moving along. and and on like it's it's It's kind of almost like pushing along because of Hans Zimmer's score. It's really impressive. I really love it, and I'm really excited to see you what the last episode brings because...
Speaker: This i might be my favorite show ever by the end of it. There's an element of like, I've done a lot of theater theatrical productions and I never really connected this idea of working in a kitchen to like the craziness of like a theatrical production. There's this idea that every night is a new night. There's like these theater shows, like we we saw ah we saw a show on Broadway and we together that was what we did. Yeah, we watched the Book of Mormon.
Speaker: Right. Yeah, that was Broadway. um But yeah, like there's something there's something interesting. like They do like six shows a week, which is crazy. And every night they come in and they all the actors have to hit their marks, the cues for the lighting and the the all of the different props. And like you could draw drop a prop mid-season. You're just mid-show. You weren't supposed to drop. And you just got to improv and fix the issues as you go. And this could be there could be chaos, but you kind of have to just bring it together by the end. And how it gets brought together by the end is a big part of doing a theatrical production. you're talking You see actors talk about this like on interviews all the time where things are kind of a disaster and they're incredibly stressed out as things like change. They start losing their voice near the end of the run. It's months of this. In a restaurant, you're doing this every night. It's kind of a neat thing. And it's like there is also six days, potentially six days on one day off for the bear, at least. um
Speaker: But there's something cool about that element. I just never really connected before. And I was just thinking of like, oh, wow, it's kind of similar. There's like a chaos element of like you have to improv when things go awry, especially in that kind of setting. Like the bear is unique because they're they're creating dishes on the fly and they're really at a high level. Um, but it's, it's cool. Like the way that the, you show the characters play off of each other and the way that Gary played into the season. We talked about that last, last episode, that, that one-off spinoff episode also directed by Christopher Storer and Christopher Storer directed a lot of the episodes. Not only does he, does he actually executive produce the show, but he, he,
Speaker: directed a lot and I'm there right there with you like whatever he makes next I'm super curious about and I feel like I'm gonna be really sad when this ends like I've been savoring the season that's why I haven't finished it because I'm like I don't really want to finish it it's one of those things actually we have a mutual a friend who worked our acquaintance friend colleague but we worked in um in one of the store retail stores we worked at, he never watched the last episode of Breaking Bad. i don't think he still has. I got to talk to him actually about that. I got to bring that up with him. He never watched it at all because he he didn't want to end the show, which I thought was hilarious. It was either of that or The Office or both. I can't remember which one. I think it might have been both. But I thought i was like hilarious. What do you mean? You got it. You got to do it, dude. He might have watched them ah ah eventually. But like at the time, it was like, I think five years after Breaking Bad had finished airing.
Speaker: So i was like, dude, you got to do this. But I find that insane. I cannot i cannot put myself in the shoes of someone like that. We we actually have like a mutual friend. One of my childhood friends. I haven't spoken to him ah in a while that did the same thing with Uncharted, the Uncharted series, where he got like halfway or three quarters of the way through Uncharted 4 and then just put it down. He's like, I don't want this to finish.
Speaker: Yeah. and And then just has not as far as I'm aware, hasn't gone back to it. I got to go look at his trophy list. that's like I just find it crazy. I'm just like, it just because ends.
Speaker: Doesn't mean that it's good. I don't know. I mean, bringing it back to, I guess the sheep detector, just cause it's over. And just because you're mourning the loss of something doesn't mean that it wasn't worth it. You know, the memory is what makes it worth it.
Speaker: Right. And, um, yeah. Yeah. It's not all rice, you know, it's not all ri all rice, dude. It's not, I don't even remember what that meant. Uh, it was choking on a rice.
Speaker: No, I know that the literal thing, but what was the actual line you were trying to like mimic with not all rice? Like not all right? yeah It's not all right. Yeah. All right. Oh, sorry. Yeah. So it is all rice for the sheep detectives.
Speaker: Yeah. It's all rice for the sheep. In the end, it's going to be all rice. Yeah, exactly. In the end, it's going to be all rice, dude. So you just finish that show. Finish it. Oh, I'm 100% going to finish it. So I've been doing that with video games only in that I'm i'm spreading them out because I'm playing three games at once. and And I'm trying to savor them and take them in a little longer than like I could finish like so games or 20 hours. I can finish that in two weeks potentially. But I try to like savor it a little bit so it and try to take it in. a little bit longer, but I'm always going to finish it because there's always more shows. The thing is like, I think people, again, humans are very, uh, they're, they don't want to, don't, don't want change. You know, they're very resistant to change. I think that's part of it too. Like they believe that it's alive in their memory. Like Walter White is going to, you know, come out of the woodwork somehow if they, they, uh, if they don't finish the show.
Speaker: But, uh, anyway, Yeah, it's interesting. But I really like the bear. Like, truly, it is really awesome. Like, I was like, I was tearing up in this episode seven multiple times. It's one of the great reality of it. yeah It's just so emotional all the time. And there's like, I went from laughter crying to laughter crying. I'm like, oh, no, this is a comedy for sure. There's an element of I can I get it I think people make this joke all the time, but I definitely get it, but I'm definitely crying more because there's, there's a welling, welling of emotion for the happiness of it. You know what i'm saying? Yeah. But you don't think so. You're making a face. No, there is. I'm just calling you a pussy for crying. I'm just kidding. oh I teared up as well. I teared up as well. Yeah, no, I think you're a big it's one of the great episodes of television. This penultimate episode of this, the seat, the series. It's just so good.
Speaker: Oh man. And there's like a sense of relief as well. Once you finish it, you're like, oh man, like, who The same feeling they have too. They just, that's a nailing it of a certain, like if you make you, the audience feel what the characters are feeling in the moment, I feel like you, do you truly nailed it. You might not want them to feel that way exactly. But I think like largely you probably do like, like obsession as an example for another yeah incredible thing this year. Like you feel what some of these characters are feeling throughout that film. And you're like, Oh my God, this, I can't take it anymore anyway.
Speaker: Or I can take it it anymore in the case of the bear. All right, Adrian, that's what I've watched this week. I also finished Star City season one. It's very good. I very much recommend it. um But I will move on now.
Speaker: No, to the general public. Okay. Do you know, actually, this one I don't recommend. Actually, I can do as many don't recommends as possible because you don knowt watch For All Mankind and you'd have to watch that first. For All Mankind, by the way, is one of my favorite shows ever. but we're going to get into that a little later, I i think, I suspect.
Speaker: All right, my friend, are you ready? Are you ready to move on now? No, I'm going to get a glass of water because I feel like I'm going to choke on another piece of rice. Oh, all right then. I'm not feeling on all rice about continuing. All right, get out of here, you scoundrel. Get out of here.
Speaker: Oh my God, what did I just do? I'm clicking and clacking andlacking and flacking and dacking by the Wizards are Waverly Place.
Speaker: Oh, my God, almost died. Well, you're alive here, so yeah that's good. It's all rice now. Now onto the montage, a sequence of our show in which I briefly present at least seven of the biweek smaller news stories as Adrian delivers a brisk verdict.
Speaker: Number one, as publication Variety reports, Fargo actor Steve Buscemi has been cast alongside Now You See Me actor Lizzie Kaplan in the upcoming Far Cry TV series adaptation from Fargo showrunner Noah Hawley. Wonderful.
Speaker: um Both of them are good. There's three of them. Number two, as Variety has reported, actor Zolo Meridwena has been cast in director James Gunn's upcoming Superman Man of Tomorrow movie, reprising his role as character Jamie Reyes, a.k.a. Blue Beetle.
Speaker: from the 2023 Blue Beetle film. It's interesting that now this is canon, and I know there was three of them in the first one, Simon, but we already knew Hawley was doing the Far Cry TV series. Steve Buscemi and Lizzie Kaplan are the new announcements. That's why I said, wow, they're both good. Kaplan wasn't new. we We knew that for a while. Since when? i don't know, two months ago, maybe. OK, so that's why I said they're both good, because the two people I knew that were a part of the show, Noah Hawley and Lizzie Kaplan, I was referring to. I ain't psychic, OK? Steve Buscemi is great. Number 3 As reported by Deadline, director Matt Reeves' The Batman Part II has been delayed to February 2028 from its previous release date. honestly absurd i'm i'm annoyed and upset about this i can't wait for this movie it's gonna be great i'm confident but come on dude come on dude come on
Speaker: Number four. As Deadline reports, The Righteous Gemstones creator Danny McBride has been tapped to direct the upcoming G.I. Joe movie, which marks his film directorial debut.
Speaker: The film was also written by McBride. Wow, okay, cool. don't care about G.I. Joe. Number five. According to Deadline, Sin City actor Jessica Alba has been cast in Netflix's upcoming reboot for the popular rom-com 13 Going on 30. I never watched it, I don't think. Oh, okay.
Speaker: Number six. According to Deadline, The Hawk actor Jimmy Tatro has been cast as Gorilla Grodd in the upcoming Jimmy Olsen-centered Superman spinoff TV series DC Crime. Nice. Okay, cool.
Speaker: It seems like a fun idea. Number seven, according to Deadline, Sony Pictures is looking to acquire the distribution rights to a Treasure Island film directed by Gladiator director Redlee Scott and starring Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman as Long John Silver. Wow. OK.
Speaker: Long John Silver's. Isn't that like a restaurant where they sell fish? Could be based on Treasure Island. Is is there a restaurant called Long John? Yeah, there is, isn't there? In the States. We really have that here, do we?
Speaker: Anyway, yeah, Long John Silver's fast food restaurant company. It must be based on Treasure Island. It's got to Number eight, Silicon Valley creator Mike Judge's new Apple TV comedy Protective Custody is looking to cast one battle after another actor Benicio Del Toro in a core role.
Speaker: The series is about a fraudster navigating prison and is set to star Meet the Parents actor Ben Stiller. This, I believe, marks Benicio Del Toro's first foray into a comedy TV show. I'm fairly certain. Into a TV show in general or just a comedy TV show?
Speaker: I think he might have been in a TV show before, but comedy is certainly not. I don't even know if he's been in a comedy film, like a straight comedy. I'm saying he's pretty yeah funny. One battle after another, dude, man, it's quite humorous. Oh, yeah, he's quite humorous. Yeah. Number nine.
Speaker: As Variety reports, director Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey has opened to a $264 million dollars opening weekend worldwide, which marks the second highest opening weekend for the prolific director's storied career. Amazing.
Speaker: I can't wait to watch this IMAX next week with my pal Simon. Indeed. exciting. And that concludes the montage. who Dude, OK, so.
Speaker: Oh, what? You have more things. You start. Yeah. So you brought up the the um Blue Beetle guy being in in the next movie and it's the same guy. So now Blue Beetle is technically canon, kind of to this dc universe.
Speaker: Yeah. Which is it's rated well. I got to watch it. I was planning on watching it at some point in my life. Now I'm going to watch it sooner rather than later. And I was like, oh, yeah, we were talking about DCU projects. What's coming out? So I Googled DCU confirmed movies. So obviously Clayface, September. Yeah, right. Man of Tomorrow, July of next year.
Speaker: Then The Brave and the Bold, an upcoming reboot of the Batman fra franchise in the DCU directed by Andy Muschietti, Muschietti, Muschietti, that will introduce Damian Wayne as Robin.
Speaker: Yeah. Which again, whenever we're going to that. And then I don't remember this, but apparently Teen Titans is confirmed is a confirmed film and development penned by writer Anna Nguera.
Speaker: Did we did we talk about that? Hmm. Hmm. I don't know. Do we? Why do i know that name? Anna Nguera. She she wrote Supergirl. Oh, yeah. We literally just talked about that. Oof.
Speaker: I'm feeling too down on her about that. So my brother was talking about this. like i I told him that I didn't like Supergirl because I thought the last act was a mess. But then he was talking about how she was in an interview or something and and she had been asked a question about the comic that it was based on, like Woman of Tomorrow. And she said something that was really weird that made it sound like she didn't read the comic.
Speaker: And he thought that was weird. But that to me is not the problem with the movie. I still I don't care if it's based on the comic directly or not. It's it's irrelevant to me. That's not the thing. That's the problem. It has to work in ah in a way that the movie is just not structured properly. And it doesn't feel like is any satisfying conclusion because they don't actually the movie is not centered around Supergirl in the weirdest way possible. That that was my issue with it. I don't know. They also dropped the the name.
Speaker: It's just Supergirl like they dropped the woman of tomorrow banner probably because they realize like this isn't that same story really at all. That could have been why, but I would have just maybe just called it Woman of Tomorrow because they barely make it about Supergirl. You know what i'm saying? We talked about that. The movie's called Supergirl and it's just not focused around her. It's not centered around Supergirl in a large Well, maybe Supergirl was actually
Speaker: Ruthie. Not all rice? Oh, okay. Oh, no. That doesn't work. doesn't work. It doesn't even work. It does. She's not all rice.
Speaker: Oh, I guess she is an all rice. Yeah, you're right. that' like Yeah. You forgot what it meant again. Yeah. Okay. It's actually Ruthie. yeah Yeah. You're looking up the name Ruthie, the side character. that Yeah, that's why it took so long for me to say. Buddy comedy. Yeah, that's what that's why i was building up. Actually, it's kind of buddy cop comedy. way In a way, she's kind of policing.
Speaker: Buddy copity. a buddy copy. Yeah, that's a, word that's a buddy. Someone's come up with that before. Then apparently there's a, Oh, im sorry. Go ahead. Again. you After you. No, spit it out.
Speaker: No, it's going be unrelated. so Okay. Then I'm going to continue. Well, you do that. Cause I'm going to keep it. I'm listing off more of the DCU confirmed movies. Apparently. Okay. There's apparently an untitled Bane and Deathstroke project in early development.
Speaker: That we talked about. Yeah. Glad you remember. I do remember that. And then there's a Swamp Thing movie apparently that's directed by James Mangold. We did talk about two for sure. Okay.
Speaker: So I knew those things and that's why I them up. Those movies though. Those are both movies. Yeah, that's what I just said. no I'm saying, I'm not asking you, dude. I'm saying there are movies. We're not, we're sure they're movies.
Speaker: That's what they says a according to Google. Booster Gold. No, Booster Gold talk. Did you mention Booster Gold? Well, hey, it's not Google AI ain't telling me that Gemini me. Kumail Nanjiani to play Booster Gold. That would have been perfect just based on his the way that he is demeanor, like the character's demeanor. And I feel like Kumail Nanjiani plays a good character. does like i feel like he should play every character in the DC moving forward.
Speaker: Every character? Every single character. um Yeah, that would that would go over real well. i wouldn Speaking of going over real well with with people who don't like people of color, the Odyssey um is doing real well. i don't know if you saw this, but like people are kind of freaking out. And there's like there's like a weird... They're like, oh because Elon Musk thought the movie would fail. Did you see this? and now it's like Oh, yeah.
Speaker: yeah I did see this. Unfortunately, i did. Dude... I'm just so over it. I'm so I'm so over talking about that this. the this The people know that their personality though, why does it have to be their your personality? You know what i mean? Like that's lame.
Speaker: It's lame. And you're stupid if that's your entire personality. I have a I have a I have a friend. Um, that, that his entire, like, I know every opinion before he even says it. Cause he always just, anytime something's announced, I'm like, okay, here's my buddy. He's going to go on discord and he's going to write a message that is just everything that, that the people yelling online it is about. And without fail, the anti-warriors are yelling.
Speaker: He's, is always there. And, and, and, and I always hear his dumb fucking opinions again, I was going to say great guy. He's a friend of mine.
Speaker: So like to me, like again, I'm i'm friends with him. I went to his wedding. He went to my wedding. But God damn it, does he annoy the fucking shit out of me. He doesn't shut the fuck up about all this stuff.
Speaker: And he watched the Odyssey. And I like what he said. yeah I watched the Odyssey. And then without fail, my buddy in that chat is like, oh, what do you think? and I was like i already know his response. I already know. He didn't like it.
Speaker: And he didn't like it. No, he didn't like it And I was like, and um then I made ah a passing remark about him being a racist. And he's like, I'm not racist. You know, but.
Speaker: Dude, you're not off base. That's essentially what was. It's always that, though. Dude, it is. is. My wife, my coworker, they would always do that. And just like, oh, here we go. And it's just like, brother, come on.
Speaker: Come on. Yeah. Anyways. Good stuff. so All right. So here's what does that say about me, though, if I'm friends with someone like that? You know what i mean? Am I a bad person?
Speaker: No. No. I don't know. I don't think so. Am i a part of the tolerant left?
Speaker: What is that? Is that a new term? I feel like I've heard it. Don't they say the intolerant left? Or they say like tolerant left and sarcasm? Oh, maybe. I don't know, man.
Speaker: I can't keep up with these terms, dude. Woke meant something completely different back then. now it's I don't know what it means, dude. yeah I actually don't know what it means anymore. It kind of just meant not a racist.
Speaker: Yeah. That's all it meant initially. Well, at this point. Wait, what woke meant not racist? Basically. Like very vaguely. oh yeah, I guess so.
Speaker: I thought, I don't know i don't Whatever. It's it's so it's just a word now, dude. It's stupid. Let's look it up real quick. Let's find out. Am I woke, dude? Am I woke? jack Am I woke? For the actual word? for Yeah, what it meant before? like they they They co-opted the word. They just made it their own thing.
Speaker: You know what I mean? yeah um like It's not that anymore. so like its it's it's i don't know. is what it says in the AI overview for Gemini. Woke is a slang term that means being alert and actively attentive to issues of racial and social injustice. Oh, you're actively attentive.
Speaker: I guess you're alert for it. you're You're looking for them. You're like, oh, okay, I see. I don't want to be racist here, so I'm going to be more careful. Like not saying the N-word or something. So not saying the N-word is woke. That's an extreme one.
Speaker: Yeah. Okay, then i'm then I'm definitely not woke. I'm just kidding. I'm joking. I'm joking. I'm joking. I'm joking. Yeah. I was going to bring up one more thing, more in a lighthearted. I'm going change the subject, but still to the Odyssey. I just wanted to tell you this. And my brother sent me this, which I thought was really funny. My brother's coming to the movie with us. My sister was too, but now she's not anymore.
Speaker: I'll tell you what later if you're interested. But you weren't interested when I told you. so I opened my window before you continue. There are kids yelling not too far from my back, like literally outside my backyard. They're shaking me a tree right now and they're yelling. Is it coming through on the mic?
Speaker: and I can't hear it. Okay, I just want to make sure. Yeah, it's good. It's good gate control. gate gates Gate control, I guess. These kids are just shaking this tree.
Speaker: Oh, wow. Hopefully it doesn't fall down in your house or something. Well, it's it's it's behind my backyard. I feel like they threw something up there. They're throwing their shoe in there. They're trying to get something out. They got a ball up there, for sure. It's not a ball, dude. It looks like a paper airplane.
Speaker: Oh, paper. be A kite. A paper airplane. I don't. I don't know. dude It sounds so far away based on how you're describing it. Like it's past my backyard, but you're saying it's a paper airplane. Like, how can you see it that far? are you You got. to Well, you you've been in my backyard for the first time in over a year.
Speaker: Oh, man. After me moving in and inviting you about 13 times. Yeah. yeah Oh, it's a shoe. It's a shoe. That's stupid. How'd they get that up there? Dude, I have no idea. what I kind of want to yell at me like, Hey, what are you guys doing? How'd you guys get that shoe up there? Oh my God, dude, did you just threw one of his shoes up there? And then the second shoe got stuck. Okay. No, no way. That's a classic. Okay. Well, he okay. The other one's almost dead. It's almost out.
Speaker: yeah Is this interesting, me narrating what these so syllabus five kids are doing? I guarantee, because my wife is probably going to listen to this episode, she'll find it interesting. Probably more interesting than film than the film stuff we're about to talk about, to be honest. okay but Let me just bring up the last thing The Odyssey before we move on. okay The Odyssey, my brother sent me this post, and I thought was really funny. I think you'll get a huge kick out of it. The Odyssey's budget to build this movie... By the way, Christopher Nolan apparently he did this under budget. he didn' I think he did it under...
Speaker: Under budget and under time, I think that was what it was. He somehow did it under the scheduled allotment. Like his shooting schedule, he's always right on time. And in this case, he got it done early. And that's how Tom Holland was able to go. They delayed. did you hear about this? Tom Holland was going to be in the Spider-Man movie, but they delayed the Spider-Man movie's shooting schedule because of the Odyssey.
Speaker: Because he was going to be in the Odyssey. But then the thing was is that the Sony executives were like, we're only going to do it because of Christopher Nolan. Because Christopher Nolan has an incredible reputation of always shooting under schedule.
Speaker: Anyway, I thought that was really fun. they knew he would be done in time. So they're like, we'll let you do it. So they actually pushed the movie back for Tom. good old You think this is Sony trying to like...
Speaker: Build a build race with with Christopher Nolan so that he makes his next movie with them. Not a bad idea. I mean, this movie is going to do really well by the end. It's crazy. Like you didn't really ask what movie it was that or didn't mention this, but the movie that this was a second greatest ah opening for him. do You know what the first one I guess this was.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: The Dark Knight Rises. Correct. I knew it is weird because the dark night rises. you remember? There's like an active shooter in one of the theaters and like I figured figured that would be like, yeah, for people from going to see that movie a little bit more so.
Speaker: Yeah, dude, they're shaking this tree like fucking crazy. but Yeah, yeah. I'm going to get that shoe up. david did you It's crazy. here Yeah, I think about I all remember the active shooter thing. remember when Remember when me and my pal David, we took you ah for your birthday to Hans Zimmer Live. Do you remember this? Amazing, by the way. That's maybe my greatest gift I've ever received on a birthday. Did I ever tell you that?
Speaker: No. I really love it. i love Well, hey, I love you, and and and I've loved you for many years, and that's why this surprised by it, and also I just thought that was a great concert. yeah That's the kind of concert I can get down for.
Speaker: I'm not like a a stand in like the mosh pit, like screaming like, yeah, kind of guy. I got like this is like and plus constant was on 15 instruments and he was like taking off articles of clothing every friggin set.
Speaker: Yeah, it's great. hes But naked at the end of it, he was peeling off his skin at the end. It's crazy. It wasn't there like a crazy. um There's a crazy celloist or something like that. you remember?
Speaker: Yeah. She was like real good. Yeah. She was really good. She was going wild. That was awesome. What do you bring that up for? Sorry. Because he he talked about the active shooter situation because he talked about Heath Ledger passing away. and then he talked about like how they were so excited about the Dark Knight Rises. And they were like, you know, we made this for Heath Ledger, you know, like yeah it broke our hearts that he passed away and we we're so excited. And then so quickly, you know, that awful tragedy happened. He was talking about it. And it was very emotional.
Speaker: Good call. Yeah. Yeah, okay. Let me just get to my point here before you start talking about the tree, okay? The Odyssey, you're going to find this fun, okay? I think you will. The Odyssey, my brother sent me this post that said, the Odyssey, the budget was $250 million, which somehow, somehow is the same budget as Moana at $250 million.
Speaker: Which is a crazy statistic, dude. What? That's just a crazy data point. And you know why it's crazy? I just saw I was watching the Hot Ones episode with John Bernthal and Tom Holland for a brief moment before you got on to this podcast to start recording because you were too late.
Speaker: And I was watching them. I know I was late. Why did you have to say it so passive aggressively? I brought it up that I was late. That's how I was watching. I don't usually watch Hot Ones. I just thought, oh, whatever. It came up in my feed. I clicked So I started watching this and Tom Holland said something interesting. He went to set before he was actually like on like the, i would they would they would call it call it the call sheet. He wasn't on the, he wasn't in the scenes. He was just going there to see how Christopher Nolan directed beforehand because he hadn't been in a Nolan movie. So he goes to set and he's looking around he's like seeing like these boats in the water, like multiple boats that built in the water. And there's like so many extras in like full army garb, like they're soldiers. And he's like, wow. Where are they even shooting? He couldn't find – there was so many people, a sea of people and so much stuff going on. He's like, I don't even know where they're shooting. It was like he was in it like ah like a war reenactment.
Speaker: That's a crazy idea. And then Moana, what did they spend the money on? Dwayne The Rock Johnson? I going to say. I was just going to say. The cast in the Odyssey, Charlize Theron. You got Matt Damon. You got Zendaya. You got Tom Holland. You got Jon Bernthal. You got – Anne Hathaway.
Speaker: And hath how can I forget about Anne Hathaway? Yeah. Crazy. Oh, friggin Robert Pattinson. It's like it's like it's all star cast of incredible actors. And you a real life Cyclops in the movie. but yeah bought They bill literally paid the Cyclops to do this. yeah They paid. They found one. They build build these ships. They build the Cyclops for practical effects. It's crazy. And they're shooting it all on IMAX. And you got Moana.
Speaker: And it's got to be just CG cost, right? It's like building a video game, I guess. But even the video games aren't that – like, they're costly. But they're, like, for, like, really blockbuster, like, a 30-hour game, it's, like, 200, 300 million. Yeah.
Speaker: So, and that's all CG. So how did you spend that? I don't get it. Like, is is ah is it a ballooning budget? Like what? it's I feel like, I don't know. I feel like there's something to miss there. Who are you giving all the money to?
Speaker: You give the main actress probably $6 to $7 because she's new and you're probably just – That's good than that. She's new and you're like, this is her first role. We can pay her $6 or $7. And then you give Dwayne The Rock Johnson $200 million.
Speaker: And then you spend the other – effects. $49,999,992 or $3 on the And that's it. No, on wig. million nine hundred hundred and ninety nine thousand nine hundred and ninety two dollars or three dollars on on the cgi and that's it no on his wi Oh, yes. Sorry. On his way.
Speaker: Yeah. we're With a wig guy. Yeah. Sorry. That's on me, dude. But what's crazy is like you were talking about how you think it looks like an insurance commercial. So you don't even like the visual effects, which is like even worse for this particular situation. Yeah. Which is weird.
Speaker: um Anyway, so i just think it's interesting because they're like, they're estimated at that exact budget, which I think is really fun. It's really fun that that's the same budget that came around yeah out around the same time too. So it's like no inflationary. Yes.
Speaker: Anyway, it's crazy. What are you doing? I want to send you a video of the kids shaking the fucking tree, dude. Okay. Yeah, do that. I'll look at it. Okay. You ready? Are you ready to dive in Adrian to a trilogy of topical tidings? hu Yeah.
Speaker: i feel like the kid just looked directly at my camera. I'm like, I'm just some 30 year old man had recorded children shaking a tree. I feel like out of a window. Yeah. I gotta, I gotta, I gotta to delete this. I gotta stop what I'm doing. Cause that's their parents are going to come to your door and say, excuse me, do you have a video of my child?
Speaker: Stranger Adrian, dude. I was going to send it to you, but anyways, whatever. Maybe later. maybe Maybe when he's not looking. um Yeah, so the trilogy of topical tidings, Adrian, is a component of our show where we discuss at least three film and TV industry news stories that have been somewhat zeitgeisty over the past two weeks. The first, Adrian, is that Deadline has reported that the production of the God of War TV series has been put on hold due to lead actor Ryan Hurst, who plays Kratos, tearing his bicep during a stunt.
Speaker: Despite having shot four episodes with Hearst, he will be recast for the series due to the time due to the timeline of recovery for this unfortunate injury being estimated at about 12 months. Deadline notes that the production will ostensibly begin again from scratch due to an aging child actor, played by Kalem Vinson,
Speaker: playing atreus who is in a very large number of scenes with hearst and so the idea would be that yeah because he's aged up in this time that they've already filmed uh it would be very weird if he aged backwards it's kind of the worry yeah for the new actor um so they kind of have to reshoot everything with caleb vincent So this is kind of crazy.
Speaker: And imagine this happens to you, okay? You're working a job and you're putting doing each one of mine apparently doing a good job. People are like, Ryan Hurst was giving it his all. You know, he's doing his stunts, the stunts himself. And he's really doing it intensely, which is awesome. It sounded like he was like kind of acting like John Berthold a little bit. You know, he's like in it.
Speaker: and then And then he tears his bicep, which requires surgery. And then he goes to surgery and he's finding out in the hospital that he's lost his job. I don't know if i said that analogy yeah very well, but you know what saying? It's kind of sad. Yeah, it must suck for him, but I wonder, I don't know how how contracts work and stuff, but I wonder if he's still getting paid a salary for at least the one season.
Speaker: imagine so. But think it's a break for him a bit too because he's coming off, like he hasn't done that many things and now he's in the Odyssey, by the way. He's also in the Odyssey. Yep. For brief role, I think. I don't think it's that big of a role, but it's he's in it. And then this is a starring role in this show on Amazon Prime Video.
Speaker: And he just lost the part, which is like you want to get more parts. So, like yeah, you're getting paid, but you're also losing. Yeah. The clout, you know, which sucks. So it's kind of sad.
Speaker: um Yeah. Yeah. Any other thoughts on this? Yeah. No, I feel bad for him. It sucks. I like Ryan Hurst as an actor. Like, I think he's amazing as Opie and Sons of Anarchy. um i think yeah I forgot that he was Alpha in The Walking Dead and then you brought it up. I'm like, oh, yeah, he is. And like, I think he does face much, though.
Speaker: No, yeah, because he's always wearing that mask. But I feel like he's he's um still a memorable character. um i guess it's it's it's the chameleon aspect. You don't even know it's him. Yeah. but it's It's a character that you remember.
Speaker: um I think this is a bummer. I do feel bad. It's crazy that they have like four full episodes, ah presumably, at least based on that variety article. Sorry, deadline article um that that were essentially completed. And now they have to reshoot it.
Speaker: I have a couple of questions about this. Yeah. And I'm curious what you think. Are they going to recast the child actor? To get someone younger in because this kid's already growing up so fast.
Speaker: I doubt it. No. No. think they're going start shooting right away. But who are they going cast as creators? That was going to be my follow-up question, Simon. That was going to be me asking you do you think they're going to. now Well, the theory for me was Jason Momoa all along. like I really thought that would be a good choice, potentially, as a big-name actor we know. But maybe it's better that you have a relatively unknown actor in Ryan Hurst. You know what i mean? like You get somebody... there was actually old yeah That was something I had written as a note for a different topic that we didn't really get to. But...
Speaker: There's this element that there was a, there was a old James Bond producer. I don't think she's producing for the James Bond series anymore, but she had said something along the lines of like, you can't really, so ah you can't cast Caleb Turner. It's Caleb Turner, right? The dude in that, ah he's been in lots of things.
Speaker: and Or like Jacob Elordi. um Callum, isn't it Calum? Isn't it Calum? I don't like Calum Vincent. This other case I was carrying this. I don't think so.
Speaker: But anyway, regardless of that, you know i'm talking about, like these big actors, you can't cast them as James Bond because they're too well known. You get a relatively unknown actor like Daniel Craig, who was not as known at the time.
Speaker: You know, it's Calum. It's Calum. K.A.L. um Rhymes with Shalom. Why the fuck would the Google AI use that? Apparently Oxford dictionary is like it rhymes with shallum.
Speaker: Who says shallum? I don't know. That's stupid. Are you getting what I'm saying? Are you getting what I'm putting down here or no? Sorry, what was your question? I got sidetracked. didn't ask a question.
Speaker: Okay. You're the only one on this podcast, so I'm not talking to myself. um My point was that maybe you hire someone who's less known. So you don't hire a Jacob Elordi or somebody who's known. like You mentioned Dev Patel would be a good choice, and that's a good choice. I just don't think – I think maybe you do find a British actor who's less – Well known. And I've got a contender actually. yeah I thought of one.
Speaker: There's an actor in, in, in, uh, again, they got to dye his hair though. They got to make it like, like the, like James Bond actor in first light, the video game. Yep. We got to make sure his hair is black. I think it's just kind of nail it on the, on the, The story, Ian Fleming's story, maybe.
Speaker: But Soli McLeod, McLeod from Star City. You never even heard of him. Never even heard of him. Exactly. And and that's why he's perfect. I was watching this guy. I'm like, I think he could do this.
Speaker: He's got a charisma in this show that is really good. And he's kind of like a ladies man in the show a little bit. I'm like, this guy can do it. I but i believe Sully McLeod. I don't know. I don't think he's necessarily going to be like he he would necessarily be a contender, but he's really good in Star City. There's a lot of good acting. so He was born in Scotland. Is that OK?
Speaker: I think that's OK. OK. I think it's OK. But yeah, that would be that would that would be my random kind of like out of left field choice in that he's not well known in the ether right now. He's not like everyone's talking about him necessarily, but i think be a good choice. Anyway, that was a very big sidetrack. But what were we talking about? in terms We were talking about who should be cast in the God of War. What do you think? do you have anyone who's on your shortlist? Anyone you're thinking of?
Speaker: So i but before before I tell you who I think should be cast, I'm – As much as I'm bummed about Ryan Hurst not being cast or sorry, having to leave and I feel bad for him.
Speaker: Yeah. I don't necessarily think he was the right choice because again, that, that one still, we talked about this on on the show. Right. One still, I could not get past the bald cap because again, like I think he's Sikh, like his religion is is Sikhism and he can't cut his hair because of that, if I recall correctly. So like wearing the bald cap just really threw me out of it. And I, as soon as I noticed it in that image, i i could not unnotice it. Maybe they would have edited it in post or whatever, and it would have been fine. But again, for just for, Oh, did they get the shoe?
Speaker: Oh my God. They got the shoe. Um, oh good they're gone. They got the shoe. I missed it. I'm kind of, um, I think they threw another shoe in my neighbor's backyard though. And now they're debating if they should climb the fence.
Speaker: Probably a bad idea. Yeah. got knock on the door first. That's the polite thing to do. Yeah. That's not not what they're going do. Probably. They're just going to jump the fence.
Speaker: Maybe break the f on my fence. I'm watching this. It was breaking here because he's like, no, I mean kids like these, kids these kids sound like they're like less than 15, I had like neighbors. We're like college kids jumping over the backyard to get a fricking like ping pong ball for beer pong. It's like, come on guys. Like,
Speaker: You're like so old and you're wrecking my fence. And my fence did break. like Legitimately, they broke my fence. It was broken and we had to get it repaired. It's like they're not going to repair it. They're doing a house party. These are random strangers from like who knows where they live. Anyway.
Speaker: You should have killed them. though Anyways. No. um But yeah, the bald cap thing, it really threw me out of it and I just couldn't get past it. Yeah. Yeah. the Interesting thing. I'll say i that's still there's another one of those examples of like this is like a bit of a like a distortion field thing of like the Internet's causing people to believe that this is going to be a bad show because of one image, which I feel like was captured at the wrong time. And I've said this before, but if you if you pause any TV show while you're watching it, you're going to get a bad still of somebody with their mouth open looking like, ah you know what I'm saying? They did knock on my neighbor's door, by the way, and my neighbor. Very polite. Good neighbors. You got good kid neighbors there. Good. You should. Now you should say out the window like you're really polite. I appreciate you like an old man.
Speaker: Yeah. Old man looking at children out of the window. Probably about it. Yeah. Anyway, but you see what I'm saying, though, right? Yes. i do I do see what you're saying. I think that this was a blown out of proportion situation with the still. I think it was blown out of proportion. and I think Ronald D. Moore, who was like largely a big producer on For All Mankind until like some of the later seasons, he is a really good showrunner. I legitimately believe that he is excellent at what he does.
Speaker: So I'm very excited because it's really about who the creatives are involved, not by one still. Am I going to judge this TV show? I think it may have been a bad marketing move from the marketing team at Amazon Prime that might have released that image. It's hard to know how that got released. And I feel like I wouldn't really pass judgment until at the very least a full length trailer gets released. And then I can pass a little bit of judgment. But now, I mean, I had an issue with the bald cap too because it was pointed out. I'm wondering if it would have been distracting long term.
Speaker: But I'm surprised that they wouldn't have cast somebody who would just cut their hair. So I said that actually episodes back that they would have yeah cast somebody who would have been able to cut their hair so that they could have just not had that distraction if they weren't able to do the makeup appropriately. The ball cap wasn't immediately noticeable to me, though. And again, if you look at an image long enough, 4K image, you can certainly pick something apart for probably every single detail. So again, not the greatest choice of image, especially because his mouth is agape.
Speaker: Yeah. And he's looking like he's doing a, for some reason that watching his son play baseball pose, which is just odd. It's just an odd thing that I don't think Kratos ever did in the 2018 game. God of war that i remember anyway. No. Um, but anyway, so yeah, any, uh, any thoughts on the actor to be cast in this role? So I think you pointing out Jason memo. I think that's a fair, uh, casting. I'll, I'll give another like more obvious casting choice in, um, uh,
Speaker: Dave Bautista. I think Dave Bautista would be a really good choice. He has lost a lot of weight and muscle mass, so maybe he wouldn't be the right choice at this time. Right. um But i think I think he would have been a really great choice. I really like Dave Bautista as an actor. I think he's awesome. My sort of left... Sully McLeod?
Speaker: You're Sully McLeod for this argument? Yeah, yeah, yeah. It is going to be... That Oliver Dari Olofsson guy from several in the show, dude.
Speaker: Oh, yeah, shit. He is. Who did he get cast as again? he We talked or it's perfect. Yeah, he is Thor. Yeah. Oh, damn. Perfect casting. Which is funny if I. Well, i pick him because Ryan Hurst was Thor in the God of War game and it makes sense. So if if the Thor in the God of War game became Kratos in the show, the Thor in the series should also become Kratos. So that was my logic. better as Thor.
Speaker: He does look Norse, though. And it makes sense based on his heritage. think it makes sense in that Kratos is Greek. So it's like I kind of – don't I'm not – I do – I think Olufsen might be the best casting that they've done, actually. Yeah. In some way. It's really crazy. There's some really – Mandy Patinkin's a really good choice, too, man. Oh, man. I'm so I told you. When – I think you looked at me like I was crazy when I was like, Mandy Patinkin looks like he would be Odin. Like I was like, he looks like an Odin at a guy. And you're like, well, I mean, yeah, but, you know, in all seriousness, my rebuttal. Yeah, but what?
Speaker: ah Well, who is the original? um Oh, because Richard Schiff is a working actor. That's why I was confused because I'm like, wouldn't you just catch Richard Schiff? I love Mandy Patinkin, though, to be fair. i Yeah, think that's a great casting.
Speaker: watched more Mandy Patinkin than I've seen Richard Schiff, so I am very happy about it. But and yeah, I'm curious. I don't know what they're going to do Are they going pick, again, another relatively unknown person? Because when they cast Ryan Hurst, was like, oh, maybe they're just going to have mostly relatively unknown people, but that's not really true. Like, they have some pretty...
Speaker: Oh, the other actor that, um, oh, she's playing. Oh, i forgot her name. Now the, uh, what's her name? Baldur's mother. Ah, terrible. In the show.
Speaker: Baldur's, Baldur's mother in the show. No. Oh, wait, sorry. Freya. Freya. Correct. the, but the, um, Freya. Wait, did they cast Faye?
Speaker: No. Do you think they just did it? They just did the same Faye? Because like that's a perfect choice. Yeah, they should. Deborah Ann Wool. Now they definitely should. Yeah. Because we didn't know this before, but they were making a god of War spinoff like game about her, and she's fully motion captured. It's perfect. And she's a she's definitely a working actor, and she's in a lot of things, and she's great. So I feel like that's a really good choice in general. But for a Freya, the actress playing Freya, I've forgotten her name. i feel bad. Sonya Walger.
Speaker: right sonia walger is a huge piece of the for all mankind universe which was run by ronald d moore i didn't make that connection i made the connection with lost like she's she's penny not penny's boat yeah jinx so like the like so that's kind of uh i i really like her i think she's awesome so i'm curious to see what she brings to the role role too but she's not as well known obviously yeah compared to mandy patinkin as an example But anyway, yeah I'm very excited. We'll see what we'll see what happens. Cool.
Speaker: My final choice, though, since I got my first choice wrong. Second choice. like Whatever. My one choice wrong. Yeah. Glenn Powell. Bring in Glenn Powell.
Speaker: That's so dumb. OK, I feel like it would be good. But in in all seriousness, I don't think he'd be a good fit for that role, but he should be in something. Yeah, he's in lots. He's going to be in lots. What do you mean? Yeah, he's going to be He should be Batman.
Speaker: he could still my choice that That could be a good one. Did you give that one? I don't think you gave that as an option. Your main choice was like Robert Pattinson and like, I don't think you said Glenn Powell lab now that I'm remembering. Because when we talked about who's going to be the Batman in the new DC Universe Batman timeline, you just kept saying Robert Pattinson because you really believe that. Maybe I was too embarrassed to bring up Glenn Powell because I love him so much.
Speaker: I don't know about that. You never shy away. But no, I think Glenn Powell would be an awesome Batman. Dude, that'd be my dream casting for Batman, straight up. Straight up. Okay. Okay. That's cool. But you know you know who could play? ah Well, I don't know if he's as buff anymore, but I feel like he's he's got the voice for it for Kratos.
Speaker: Gerard Butler, actually. Like not not even being facetious. I feel like that would actually be a good – That's a fun one because he is a Spartan in another thing. Is that an action you made or okay? Yeah, yeah he's he's a Spartan in 300. That could be really interesting, actually. Mm-hmm.
Speaker: That's ah he has a he has an accent, though. Doesn't he have his English accent in 300? Don't they all have accents? You don't remember. Has he ever done a American accent? He must have in something else.
Speaker: I can't remember. He must've, but I don't know. It's an interesting choice. I wonder if he would do that. Cause you have to get really buff. And as, as you mentioned, he hasn't, maybe he's not doing that as much anymore.
Speaker: I honestly, you mentioned the voice though. That's why I like Jason Momoa for two, because I think his voice really works for it. That's kind of part of it. I think that like his shape it's shape of his nose and the way that I think, I don't know Well, I don't know. I agree. i I think that would be a good choice if they did do that nightmare cast.
Speaker: Dwayne, the rock Johnson. I feel like that would be nightmare. now would That would be good. I would, I would hate that. And again, no disrespect to Dwayne, the rock Johnson, except for him pissing in bottles on set, which is weird. He wouldn't be good because he's way too recognizable to the point where it would be very distracting. He was like one of the highest paid actors like a few years ago.
Speaker: Like don't, especially this year because he got paid 200 million for Moana. I don't know if you remember that. Well, I don't know where the budget went otherwise, but okay, let's move on now. Let's move on to real quick. I don't know how much you want to spend time on this, but Netflix's Q2 report, their quarterly earnings, they released their quarter second quarterly order earnings report.
Speaker: And it just had some things to say about it. Maybe you do as well. But anyway, there's poor engagement metrics than than shareholders expected. And therefore, um the the shares dropped. It was engagement. It seems like that was the main thing.
Speaker: There's also a lower earned revenue than expected as well, ah which both of those things disappointed investors. And then Netflix's massive growth in the early 2020s has also kind of steadied out. And Netflix is focused now to try to try to fix these issues. They're focused now on gaming, advertising, and live events to build further growth.
Speaker: Netflix has grown engagement by 2% for this quarter. But investor disappointment is related to a drop off in returning viewers for second seasons. And believe that a 2% engagement growth growth is just not enough, as I kind of mentioned before, for yeah the momentum they're looking for.
Speaker: So this is ah this is interesting, but this is a weird like capitalistic response. And this is like a problem with all companies, is that you always have to be growing, otherwise you're doomed.
Speaker: And i'm just curious what you would think about it first, and then I'll give my two cents. Yeah, it is weird. um I think the the interesting part about this is, i guess this is talking about engagement growth.
Speaker: Yeah. Right. um Netflix increased their prices within this last quarter, at least in the States, if I recall correctly. Am I am i incorrect about that? They did increase them in some markets. Why why you mention it? Well, if if they still received an an engagement growth, that means that they definitely received a a at least a larger revenue growth, larger than 2% because they increased in those specific nations. Am I off base on this? You're correct in that they they increased revenue by 13%. That's not enough, though.
Speaker: They didn't hit hit the mark, right? Their budget was higher. They budgeted for higher revenue growth than 13%. But they did 13% year over year for that quarter, which is crazy. That's pretty high. We worked in retail. We didn't expect 13% at any time because that doesn't make any sense. But we would always expect growth because that's just the way companies run.
Speaker: Yeah. So it' it is interesting about this. Now, I'm trying to think about what came out on Netflix in this last quarter that would have mattered. And I can't think of a single thing.
Speaker: There is one. what? What? And they canceled it. Oh, the Burroughs. Yeah. That's one thing I would have signed up for. And I don't, I'm not going to sign up now because I, and that's the one thing I was interested in watching and they canceled it and it yeah did well. That's the weird thing. It did well from a viewership perspective and critics liked it. So I don't know that it's just pride. Honestly, it's, it's a kind of arrogance. I think Netflix,
Speaker: i don't know, man. I kind of feel like Netflix is kind of the most arrogant streamer there is. I really think that they're not on Apple TV for some reason. They don't show up there. They canceled the Burroughs because the Duffer Brothers went to Paramount.
Speaker: Oh, yeah. I give you the thumbs up and it worked in Zincaster. Why is that a feature? don't know. But um yeah, I don't know, man. Like it just feels like they they're a little full of themselves a little bit. You know what's interesting too about them?
Speaker: They stopped, i don't know if you remember this, but two years ago they stopped talking about but subscriber numbers, which is a really bad sign. It means that their growth is slowing for subscriber numbers because now they don't talk about them anymore. They don't say, oh, we gott gained this many subscribers.
Speaker: Because it's just that's not a metric. And then they're like, we're going to talk about engagement. And now they're going to spar apparently, they're going to stop talking about engagement as much now. Oh, what a surprise.
Speaker: The thing that they're not growing anymore. I mean, all overall revenue is king, I guess. But it's kind of an odd thing to... they're like you do you're just you're like oh the metric's bad oh we're just not going to talk about it anymore we don't we need talk about it you know who else uh stopped talking about subscriber numbers adrian that and they stopped for xbox games pass right yeah anyway i know that but here's my thing that i wanted to bring this up for actually do have to say about this before i before i do mine Well, I just find it, a you know, like I'm not, I'm not too surprised about this. the The thing that I actually want to point out that I find so weird is there like talking about how they're focused on gaming specifically. I know, holy crap, your, your light turned on. I know again, this is not a visual podcast, but your light turned on and it like shined the rays of a thousand suns into my eyes. It's a visual podcast. If you describe it like that, baby.
Speaker: Thank you. Thank you. That's what I'm here for, dude. um This is our most visual podcast yet. I'm talking about kids. painting pictures all day long. Yeah, dude, shaking trees. um But they're they're focused on gaming because like advertising, obviously, live events, obviously. But the gaming thing is not as obvious because I can tell you one game that Netflix has released in the last two years, and I don't even remember the name, and I played it like two weeks ago or three weeks ago.
Speaker: Yeah. um And it's like it's Zoe Kravitz, Sadie Sink, Troy Baker. ah You use your mobile phone. it's You're in an apartment. Yeah. Who's the killer?
Speaker: This guy's trying to kill you. Yeah. Ooh. I don't remember. it's Scary. Yeah. And it's not good. It's not particularly good. It's made by the people that did the auction free as well, which is a really good. I never played auction free too, though. And I just feel i'm i'm confused as to what direction you're trying to go with gaming. Netflix is, are they trying to break into that? Like we market where it's like gaming's for everyone and everyone's going to buy a Wii and play whatever.
Speaker: But it's like you just released a horror game, what's supposed to be a horror game, on your on your Netflix subscription. A Nintendo Wii. Is that what you meant? Yeah, yeah. Everyone's going to buy Oh, yeah, that's exactly what it meant by by the Wii. Sorry.
Speaker: Oh, you mean like because of the the motion controls so everyone will do it for action? Yeah. was that Was that a line? No, but like everyone had a Nintendo Wii. Grandmothers were playing the Nintendo Wii. They were playing Wii Bowling.
Speaker: It's interesting because in the end, it didn't really sell that well by the end of it. You know what i mean? There was a shortage. There was a serious shortage. ja it was not that like Switch just completely surpassed it by massive quantities. U didn't do well at all. Wii is way less.
Speaker: Numbers. It was like 101 million units. Yeah. How many was it? 101 million units. That's a lot of units. It's good. Yeah. It's not, it's not bad at all, but it was just like not, not as good as I expected.
Speaker: Like when they switch kind of broke some records recently. I'm like, Oh, that's weird. I thought we did better than that. Cause I was looking at the, the overall top console sales of all time. Like PS4, PS2 did but better. PS3 didn't crack a hundred. I don't think so. We beat that. Yeah.
Speaker: um But anyway, but um i don't know. I just find it interesting that they're trying to break into the gaming market and like, what's your what's your goal with it? Are are you trying to attract people to Netflix to play your games? Are you trying to be a publisher to release your games on other platforms?
Speaker: um Clearly, that's not the case with at least this most recent game that they came out that I keep on just not describing by name. Yeah. Here's the takeaway I have on that, because that's a great point about the gaming thing. OK, the gaming thing is so weird to me. And I kind of alluded to this last episode, but I didn't complete my thought and I regretted it after.
Speaker: The issue with the gaming thing is that gaming live events was the third one. Oh, advertising, which is fair. Yeah, that's they're always going to be doing that because they have ah versions of the subscription with ads. But live events and gaming are two things I don't want to pay for. Adrian, I have gaming. I have a console. I'm not going to game on Netflix. But who's paying for gaming on there? me All of the people who are paying for Netflix are paying for gaming. It's just the nature of how that works. They're paying for gaming as a company to build the games for Netflix. You're going to get exclusives, right? Like that, that game you don't remember the name of.
Speaker: Unhinged. I Googled it just now. There we go. did that for you. I knew you knew you were waiting in the wings. And so it's just a ridiculous thing for me to subsidize. Why would I pay for gaming? And so the price of $26 a month Canadian or whatever the hell it is now is ridiculous to me. It's the price of Xbox Game Pass and it's not as valuable as Xbox Game Pass. Game Pass is focused.
Speaker: On games, I know what I'm getting. And those games are very high quality and they're like spending hundreds of millions of dollars to make the games that are on Game Pass Ultimate um for the price that I'm paying. If you look at Apple TV Plus or even Disney Plus, I feel like those are much more, so at least right now for Disney Plus, are much more focused streaming services that are trying to do a specific thing.
Speaker: Disney Plus is trying to get into vertical video and fricking user generated content. They were going to use AI. if you remember, talked about that to be user generated content, but they bowed out of that because the chat GPT, uh, video version of what was that called? I can't remember now. They shut down.
Speaker: I remember when it was called who cares. It's shut down now. Anyway, they partnered with them. They were going to allow users to build Disney content with AI on the service. I don't want to pay for that, though. I have no interest in that. So if Disney Plus increased their prices, which they would have just to basically make it so that that was a thing.
Speaker: I just would probably cancel Disney Plus for more months of the year. So that's kind of my issue with Netflix right now. And my solution that I presented last episode was that they should do an a la carte situation. That's what Game Pass should do too, by the way. They should do an a la carte situation where you build your plan based on what you watch. Because the problem is Netflix was designed initially almost as a like a counter to cable. And now it really is cable.
Speaker: People say that streaming services in general are like cable. That's not really true. But Netflix... E's like cable. I don't get to choose what's on there. There's like a but giant package that I'm getting that I get to watch Jake Paul fights with reality TV shows with furries and freaking like a game, like a weird game that's kind of like a walking simulator with Troy Baker in it for some reason that's really short. I don't know why I'm paying for these things I don't want.
Speaker: That's the question I have for for Netflix. Why would I want to pay for that? And can you make, is it possible for you to make an a la carte service where I build out, I'm just going to buy the comedy and drama.
Speaker: section. I'm going to buy the movies and TV shows that are the marriage stories and the Irishman and the new that that new Chronicles of Narnia thing coming out from um Greta Gerwig.
Speaker: Thank you, Greta Gerwig. That's what I'm looking for. And of course, the Stranger Things and the Burroughs, which they canceled. I want those types of shows. The premium prestige TV is what I'm looking for.
Speaker: And I'm not looking for the other random stuff. And you might be looking for reality TV. I know you, but you would pay for that as a segment of your added a la carte purchases that you package together. But I don't think they want to do that because even the streaming services are bundling themselves together because Disney Plus and Crave are packageable in a bundle. So like they don't want that. They want you to buy it all in one. But I'm wondering whether people will start getting wise like myself and start canceling and coming back.
Speaker: Because that's the better way to be a consumer in this day and age, because streaming services are getting ridiculously unwieldy in terms of price, and they're only going to get worse. Because the more content they pay for and to build, the more it's going to cost.
Speaker: That's just the nature of it. And the more they do the most wacky shit and try to expand the diversity of their library, the more I'm less interested because I don't want to pay for it. Does that make sense? Hopefully that that makes total sense. That makes total sense.
Speaker: um But I'm curious what they'll do long term because what what are their what does their growth look like in five years from now when the streaming services are all like they're all hacking away at it, trying to win. When Paramount owns Warner Brothers and they're releasing Harry Potter on Paramount, HBO Max Plus. Right, another problem. That's another reason why I don't want that because I can ah cancel, come back from Paramount Plus or Crave and I can just choose to pay for that content. Now that service will be double the price, presumably. I don't know. are they going keep them separate?
Speaker: Like that, that would be good. Will they do that? Just make it possible to do an a la carte purchase. Do you want Paramount or do you want Crave or do you want both? That would be great. Crave even going to be is Crave is a about example. HBO. well not No, no, no. But yeah, but no, still like even in Canada, like what is Crave going to be? Are they going to lose their Warner Brothers rights, their HBO rights?
Speaker: Because the Paramount Plus is a subscription service here. Or is it going to be independent? Are they still going to be separated? How long is that contract going? Or is ah Crave going to just be CBC content?
Speaker: You know? Yeah. Who even knows. don't know. Or CTV or whatever the fuck they have on that. The reason I respect Apple TV the most, as I've said before, is because their quality average is very high.
Speaker: But Netflix can't do that because they're making too many things that are just very diverse. And so it's just not... they're not They can't. And I'm hoping Apple TV doesn't change. i just want it to stay this this really prestige TV avenue um because it it is awesome. like it's It's really good.
Speaker: like I'm yeah so excited. Silo just came back. I think we mentioned it on the What's Coming Up segment of our show. It's very good. Oh, I did the thumbs up again. it comes up in... is I can't do it on a whim though.
Speaker: I can't do it by myself. Like I can't choose to do it. I only do it by accident when I'm hand waving because I talk with my hands. Anyway, don't know why Zencastr has that feature because I just put my hands up and gives me a thumbs up to the screen. um Okay.
Speaker: I guess that's it for the story. You have anything else to say? No. Okay, well, moving on then. The next thing to talk about, my friend. Sorry, what'd you say? I said all right, so let's move on. All right, that's very good. The next thing to talk about briefly here is when to... Oh, I like this story, actually. This a one. When talking to Chinese publication Watching Hollywood...
Speaker: Watching Hollywood. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige discussed the future of the cinematic Marvel Cinematic Universe post-Secret Wars and the potential for a live-action Miles Morales Spider-Man in the MCU. I have a full quote here that's awesome.
Speaker: it's It's pretty good. Okay, spit it out. It's pretty good. Okay, you ready? ready you Ready, ready, ready, ready? Oh, I have the exact same thing here. I should have just read this instead. Oopsies. Oh, this is, by the way, via machine translation, according to IGN, where I kind of sourced this article. What kind of machine?
Speaker: Like a lawnmower? I think they're saying it was translated from Chinese to English. But it would have been, I guess, English to Chinese back to English. I'm not sure. mean Maybe this is going to get lost in translation.
Speaker: We'll find out. Like the hit movie with Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson. Yeah, right. By Sofia Coppola.
Speaker: Wait, what's going on here? when How did I write this? I don't know. I don't see where you're looking at, to be fair. so Oh, I just didn't do a quote. I'm a fool. I should have wrote a quote. Anyway, here it is. Quote, we want to do two things.
Speaker: All right. First, this is Kevin speaking. kevin speaking Okay. It's Kevin. First, to bring some storylines to a close, those that started long before Iron Man, including the original X-Men characters.
Speaker: Second, to simultaneously set the stage for the future. ah Did you follow that? This is what he's saying about the MCU saga. The future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So he's basically trying to close. So this is what he's talking about when he's talking about the MCU, the multiverse saga.
Speaker: Yeah. Ending the X-Men universe that's existed before the MCU that's already been ended a couple of times. Yes. So he wants to end it for the fourth, fourth time. Brings the storylines to the close of the multiverse saga.
Speaker: Correct. Yeah. And those that started before Iron Man somehow. yeah And second to simultaneously set the stage for the future. Avengers Endgame was truly an end. And since then, we've tried an experiment and experimented with many new things. But Secret Wars is a beginning.
Speaker: It will establish a streamlined, simplified single universe that audiences can keep up with. Some things will be familiar, but many, many things will be entirely new. Fundamentally, the X-Men will be at its at its core. Acquiring the X-Men rights isn't just about, for example, Wolverine is an outstanding character and we were able to team up team him up with Deadpool, which is great. But the X-Men are far more than just Wolverine. far, far more than the original team. Fundamentally, it's a universe, a multi-stage saga. Much of that is what we're working towards. We were just in a Marvel Studios meeting room, planning movies all the way up to 2042,
Speaker: Whether we can make it to 2042, who knows? Will it be those movies? Who knows? But this is how we approach approach and plan the vast amount of potential stories in the comics. We're constantly changing, constantly evolving, but having some guidance helps us act more purposely.
Speaker: purposefully, sorry, especially with X-Men. It's already had 10 movies, some very, very good. Some, I think, haven't lived up to expectations. How do we plan the mutant saga in a very grand way, he asks.
Speaker: So we can do that one first, then we can get to Miles Morales in a second, which is a short bit of the story. But what do you think about that? That's kind interesting. 2042 and X-Men being at the center of it. And I like the idea of Secret Wars being a beginning and then simplifying it down to, I think, one universe and not going to this wacky thing. That's a really good idea from a marketing perspective.
Speaker: Yeah. I don't know what you thought about that. but Yeah, i find that interesting. I find that interesting. Yeah.
Speaker: quick joke here james gunn learn something you know playing until 2042 man because yeah we don't even know what's coming out anyways was well he did but that just backfired like massively because yeah that's true that was so many years ago he announced that first saga and that just never monster most of it didn't happen yeah so anyways um A couple of things. Yeah. So it's interesting that obviously it seems like the X-Men is going to be at the center moving forward post-Secret Wars. That's going to be kind of the main focus because, you know, we've we've gone through the Avengers saga. We've gone through, you know, Iron Man and and Cap and all these these characters coming in and going, yada, yada. ya
Speaker: Yeah. So I'm intrigued about what the MCU direction of this is going to be. And it being a far more ah streamlined universe is intriguing to me because to be fair, even the X-Men universe was multiple universes and it was very confusing and it, even though like it wasn't really, it really wasn't told linearly in anyways. Right. Um, that's why like me making the joke about him saying, you know, this is, we're bringing an end to that X-Men universe. It's like, which one man, they brought an end to it multiple times actually with days of future past with, um, Logan, with, um,
Speaker: I guess, Dark Phoenix. So to his credit, I feel like I didn't read the beginning of this and I failed there. Okay. But he was saying to but he would the the the goal with this kind of end of the multiverse saga is to close out the X-Men universe that exists, which is cool. So you got that. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. But that is cool that that's like all of those characters you're mentioning right now.
Speaker: Yeah. That's kind of a neat aspect of it. Like giving them a proper send off, which they never really had, I guess. But they not true. Not true for two characters. Two did. But the rest of them kind of didn't. Like Logan.
Speaker: Yeah, Logan, actually, I guess, is it are you going to reference, you just kind of mentioned it, but Days of Future Past, you think that's a send-off? That was also a proper send-off for lot of the characters. Yeah, suppose that's true. Yeah, that's fair. But they didn't close it out. They brought them back again. They brought them back Multiverse of Madness in some way. They brought characters back. They brought them back again like, they just keep teasing them in other things. It just doesn't matter. Yeah, but again, that was like post-MCU buying it. I'm talking about when the X-Men universe – Oh, I see. So you opened this can of worms yourself, guys. Yeah, you reopened it. But to be fair, again, the Fox people, they opened it themselves with Logan. They did it a couple of times anyway. So it's just like, I don't know, man. Pick a fucking lane. I think he's going to do it, though. I think he's serious because I think they really want to start their own X-Men with new actors, except for maybe Hugh Jackman, which I have a theory that they're going maybe keep him around because he seems very interested. Deadpool is technically part of that X-Men universe as well because he's talking about like, oh, we had the opportunity of bringing Deadpool and Wolverine together. But it's like –
Speaker: Deadpool was technically a part of the Fox universe in the first Deadpool movie or the second one. They had like the the young cast of the X-Men in there, like when he opens the door at that one point. So it's like, I don't know, man, where where are we going with this? what What's happening? it's It's just a little confusing. But again, is less confusing because I think he is trying to close. I think I believe him. Yeah. In this case. Yeah, me too. Me too. I think ah for until a certain amount of time where he'll probably bring them all back to bring in like, you know, a big blockbuster amount of money.
Speaker: because In 10 years, maybe. Yeah. I don't think he'll do that recent at all. I think i think he will try because it's Jake Schreier making his X-Men movie. And I think they're going to try to recast as much as possible, except for, again, Wolverine. Although Wolverine might be recast because of the way he's saying that. He's like, but the X-Men are far more than just Wolverine. I like this idea that Wolverine is a weird center of that X-Men universe in some strange way. like There's way more movies with him in it. The amount of screen time for Wolverine is way higher than every other X-Men.
Speaker: Yeah. X-Man, as they say, singular. So I feel like that's something. Especially in that first X-Men movie, like the first one, the 1999 one or whatever. I feel like in X-Men and X2, they kind of spread the field a little bit more. But it's about him completely.
Speaker: Yeah. Yeah. Especially the third act, especially the third. Literally about it. Yeah, you're right. This is crazy. The third one then is not really about him, but then it becomes about him again. Yeah. And they also kill off, you know, like specific characters and just like randomly vanish them off. What's going on, dude?
Speaker: Yeah. And then Simon Kinberg comes in and makes his movies. And we're like, whoa, what man, dude, yeah what did you do here? What? Then you come around and make Days of Future Past, which is fucking awesome. No, Simon Kinberg was after Days of Future Past.
Speaker: Oh, yeah. Touche. This abuser breast was great. And so was first class. But then after that, shit hit the fan with the next two. Apocalypse. Apocalypse and the other one. Dark Phoenix.
Speaker: Was Dark Phoenix right after that one? yeah right or logan was after but i think logan was after that no i think who cares who cares it was a mess those are a blur to me apocalypse and dark phoenix are very similarly bad but you already had the expectation that dark phoenix would be bad because you i already saw you throw a bagel against the wall of the cineplex so i was like okay i did do that i did do that yeah take that bagel out of your bag bagel with cream cheese out of your trunk and yeah threw it against the wall i wasn't wasting food i left it in my trunk on a very hot day i don't think it would have been food safe Yeah, and you threw it away. You weren't littering.
Speaker: Yeah, I did pick it up, and then i did throw into the garbage. You're right. Yeah, yeah, which is a little bit more bitch than...
Speaker: You know, it's cooler if you throw it and then you get in the car and drive away. oh yeah. It's not that cool. If you throw it, you're like, I guess I got to go get that. Littering is being a bitch. Very cool. i know I'm sorry. you nots right I'm sorry. Caring about the environment is bitch move. Then you shouldn't thrown it.
Speaker: Then you shouldn't have thrown it. Cause I'm sure there's still frosted cheese on the side of that wall. Is a bitch move. yeah anyways um but no i'm curious about where they're gonna go because i think the the main issue i have with the mcu's current state is is how unfocused it is and i don't know what the hell is going on him talking about this i like i like talk i guess we don't spoil things here but i'm gonna kind of spoil a little bit here no um he's in the trailer
Speaker: No. What is it? It's it's about the Marvels. And the Marvels... Oh, okay. They teased. Yeah, okay. Yeah. And in the Marvels, they they they again, a character in the Marvels is teased to be in the X-Men universe.
Speaker: yeah I guess the X-Men universe that we're going to get in this universe know in this next Doomsday movie, it's all fucking confusing. It's a mess. dude And I feel like eventually streamlining all this is going to be beneficial for this universe and it's going to allow a new...
Speaker: a new group of people to get invested into the MCU. Because honestly, like the, the past, you know, couple phases, as much as I like a few of these movies, I don't really like, i don't really know what the fuck's going on um from a grand scheme of things. Like actually don't.
Speaker: Oh no. Like, okay. Because you're setting up a villain over the course of a TV show and a couple of movies that, unfortunately, the actor, Jonathan Majors, he was playing Kang, had those domestic and abuse abuse allegations. And then I think he was actually charged for it and then obviously fired from the project. So you you cut the one big bad that you're working towards, and then you're kind of hard shifting into something else. And it's just...
Speaker: I don't really know. I don't really know. there' There's, we're going to talk about the, the doomsday trailer, I'm sure at, at, during the trailer. And yeah. um I mean, we can talk about it now. There's, you know, references to what's happening and essentially it's like, it seems like three distinct universes are coming together. Yeah.
Speaker: And I think this reset's going to be a positive thing for the MCU, but I guess my question is like, am I going to still be invested? Am I going to be, wanting to watch each of these movies ongoing. And I, yes, I think probably, i probably, my I feel like I'll be invested. Let's say, let's say I was confused like you, right?
Speaker: My thing is the X-Men are really a great part of Marvel. And if you could simplify it to just the X-Men for a little bit and then bring Spider-Man to mix with the X-Men more so than like other Avengers, I'd be very interested in it because it's such a, I find the X-Men storylines a lot more grounded. It would be kind of cool to go to a universe where you kind of ground it a little bit more. Maybe it's not exactly the same as it is now. It's very wacky. There's a lot of shit going on. There's a lot of crazy alien invasions and shit.
Speaker: So it'd be kind of good to see something more grounded like the X-Men. They're mutants. It's kind of, i don't know, there's a realistic element of it. They just, we have mutations. People on Earth have mutations that make them be able to fly and things like that as opposed to...
Speaker: Having like random crazy number of different reasons that people one's a super soldier. The other guy's a very big green guy gets mad because of radiation. They're like, oh, the wacky shit all goes wrong in one place. Like, how did this happen? it but we don't have any of that But why do you assume they won't have that?
Speaker: Like my assumption is that they're going to focus a little bit more on the X-Men, but they're still going to have all the additional characters and wacky stuff going on. They're not wiping them out of existence. They're still going to exist. Yeah, you're right. so I just think maybe that if you grounded a little bit more and that you don't focus on all it like, not just that, but then you have the multiverse travel as well. and then you got multiple duplicates of the same people. And like, you know what i'm saying? Like, it's just too much. Like you grounded a little bit just by having also just,
Speaker: kind of not having that much going on and then the audiences are not that confused but you're right you're there marvel is just like that so they're gonna have that anyway but it would be cool if they focus on the x-men where the fuck is charlize theron what is she gonna do so you're funny because if you're like don't i'm not gonna spoil it but like that i almost not a spoiler anymore because unfortunately there's been so many teasers at the end of these uh so many teasers at the end of these movies when is harry styles coming back Right. Where's Blade? Where's Blade? Kevin?
Speaker: Was that in this exact same interview where Kevin Feige literally talks about how he feels like a failure? Horowitz. That was Josh Horowitz. from Okay, that was Josh Horowitz. Okay, yeah yeah. He talked about how he feels like a failure about not being able to get Blade ah off the ground with Mahershala Ali. That was...
Speaker: That was an interview for Spider-Man actually for like the Spider-Man brand. Okay. Okay. Pascal was there too, but he was like, I feel like a fail. Like he said, I was very happy to get Wesley Snipes back for, for like you brought back whatever for a movie recently. But then on the flip side, I am not a success. for I, he literally said I'm a failure.
Speaker: I feel like a ah terrible failure is something like that along those lines for not being able to get Mahershala's movie off the ground. But Marshall got to do his movie with Basim Tariq. Is that the name of the director? That seems right, but I don't know for Your Mother, Your Mother, which that movie looks freaking awesome. That trailer is freaking awesome. That looks cool.
Speaker: Did you watch it? Did you end up watching it? I did. I watched it right after we stopped recording. Yeah, it's super cool. Anyway, what were even talking about? Oh, okay. So anyway, I like this direction. That's my final verdict on it. I am very excited for Secret Wars after, Secret Wars, sorry, Doomsday after seeing the trailer.
Speaker: And there's a particular reason why, but we'll talk about it when we get into trailers, maybe a little bit longer, unless you want to just dive right into I feel like we should just talk about it now. and why segment it? Because I got like six other trailers to talk about anyways. Fine. The Doomsday, we're only supposed to talk about one. The trailer segment is one trailer that's the best. well too bad, Simon, because I wrote down like seven trailers and now one of them we're about to talk about. Okay. Doomsday, I think in the end, was my favorite trailer of this particular week. I think that that trailer was really strong from my perspective.
Speaker: I think the beginning of it in particular... is really interesting. And that's where I'm like very excited. That's where I'm most excited. I think about Avengers doomsday. Cause the beginning of the trailer starts with what I believe to be Robert Downey jr. Speaking in a fricking crazy dialect, which I think is awesome.
Speaker: I just think like, don't doubt it. This looks really cool. So that's kind of where i I'm at with it because the villain, I think, is going to be a really important piece of this particular two Avengers movies that you would assume the most important thing.
Speaker: um And so and the explanation of how It is that exactly Robert Downey Jr., like the face of Tony Stark is also the face of Dr. Doom in this universe. Yeah. And I'm sure that they're going to explain that in some some way with a multiverse reason. But I just think that that's the most interesting thing um because he's from, what it, Latveria, Dr. Doom? So it makes sense that he would sound like that. But he almost sounds...
Speaker: Yeah, but I guess my question to you, so like in the comics, I just did a quick Google search because I'm pretty confident about this. Isn't Dr. Doom's face like fucking burned? Like it's like scarred like crazy? And that's why he wears the mask?
Speaker: Yeah, but they're changing, it I think. maybe Maybe he's going to be scarred to Robert Downey Jr. And you're going to see his face through the scars. Well, actually, through through Google AI, it literally says in the comics era in Secret Wars, his face has been miraculously healed. So.
Speaker: There you go. knows movie that way I think they won't. i think they're going to double down on the idea that he looks similar. I think that will be like a big reveal. Although it's ruined yeah because they revealed it already. Well, that's, but that's kind of my issue with this trailer is I was watching it and I'm excited about this movie. Don't get me wrong. And going to come off as very cynical here, but I was like sitting here. I'm like, this just seems like, Hey, look at all these characters that you know and love. And now they're all together. And you know, you,
Speaker: um look, Steve Rogers is here, but we already saw Steve Rogers in that one trailer like three months ago or whatever, four months ago, five months ago. And it just, yeah and it's like, it seems so tell not show. It's like, we have Thor narrating a lot of this trailer being like, I, you know, I was with a bunch of warriors and, and Dr. Doom's the the strongest guy I ever fought ever.
Speaker: And they got murdered by this guy He's even stronger than a Thanos or whatever. And and it's just like... didn't say that. He didn't say that he murdered anyone. Well, im I'm paraphrasing here, obviously. Just saying that I fought with a lot of warriors. and it's guy... This is just saying he's scared of him.
Speaker: yeah And it's just it just feels... i feel like there has been no buildup to this guy. We saw him in one post-credits scene and it's very brief. And it's like it has nothing to do with this character's power level or anything. And it's just like... I just almost feel like this movie seems so...
Speaker: member berries in a way like, Oh, look at all these characters. Remember this character? Remember this character? Now they're all together. And it's like, these characters are going to be fighting. And I don't know that there's something about it that I'm sure I'm, I'm sure I'm going to watch this movie and probably love it and be hype, but there's something about it. That's just keeping me from getting excited about this trailer, which is just like a lot of here. Look at all these characters together that you've seen in a bunch of different movies.
Speaker: And now they're together on one screen. And it's cool, but it's like, what has led us up to this point? You have Shang-Chi in this trailer. I'm like, that's awesome. i ah I'm glad they remembered that they made Shang-Chi, a movie that's one of the better MCU movies in recent years that ends fucking awesome. It's like, cool, we're bringing him back. But it's like, I don't know, man. It's just, it's it's the universe has been so inconsistent.
Speaker: and with no clear end point that they had Fantastic Four most recently. i think that was the last movie where it was like, okay, cool. Here's a little hint at, you know, who Doomsday is.
Speaker: And now we're going to lead into the Avengers movie. And that's that. It's just, i don't know, man. i I wish I was more excited. I don't think this was a good trailer. Personally, I was watching this trailer and I just found it. Like, I still don't even know really what this movie is about apart from all the characters that are going I don't think that's necessarily... That's trailer.
Speaker: disagree. That's what a trailer is. Okay. That's a teaser. That's a teaser. I don't want to know anything. I want to know at least something apart from... I'm pissed off at the previous trailers. They're teasing all these characters. That was the problem. We already saw all the characters that they showed.
Speaker: We already know what characters are. This yeah this is the best part, but this trailer is... Now it's like, okay, cool. Now here's a bunch of scenes with these characters together. And it just... i don't know. There's there' this level of disappointment that that I have. I just...
Speaker: I wish we knew what we were getting, what led to this point. Again, there's, it's movie. We're going to find out in the movie. Yeah, dude, i I get what you're talking about. I understand. We're going to find out in the movie, but there's no buildup. There's no satisfaction to this trailer because I, nothing has led up to this point apart from, I guess the fantastic four movie, but it, it's, it just feels not really.
Speaker: What else? Fantastic four movie. Didn't really lead up to it. Did it? With its after credit scene, that's alone. Literally just the just the after credit scene. Yeah, but that's like nothing. That's what I mean. the reality Nothing led up to it.
Speaker: Well, nothing. that That's my issue. But why does it have to? It's a movie. It's a movie in a long string of of of movies in a universe that's building to this climactic...
Speaker: event that I guess is technically a start based on what Kevin Feige said. But Avengers just does the same thing. The first Avengers movie and the second one are both the same. There's no buildup for the villain. Hard to disagree. um In the first one, it's Loki.
Speaker: They don't build that. That guy can't do shit. He gets defeated in Thor. But he's still kind of the, he's still shown. He's still a character. Ultron isn't shown, but again, he's based off of Jarvis and there's a buildup to that. And then Thanos has shown multiple times leading up. Ultron's not based off Jarvis?
Speaker: um Yeah, he's he's the AI. He's part of the AI thing. That's a far stretch. Ultron is an entirely new character, essentially. from Yeah, but again, it's based off you know the AI that like Tony Stark creates with Bruce Banner based on you know Jarvis as a character. close as it is to Dr. Doom being introduced to the very end of Fantastic Four. There's no no connection. they've They've separated these characters. Only Thanos was really built up for the multi-movie saga that we got with Infinity War and Endgame. It would have been nice to have the Dr. Doom movies ah ahead of time, but if you can build a good movie,
Speaker: You've got two movies to do it a massive, you've two movies to do a massive blockbuster event. If you fail that, that's on you, I guess. But like for most of the villains in these good, in the good MCU movies that exist, we don't get like buildup ahead of time. Thor Ragnarok, Winter Soldier. They're not, we don't get these villains before we don't, we we just get good movies. We, And that works. If you could write something compelling, the Avengers movies are are about bringing all the characters together and leading up to these big event movies. That's different though.
Speaker: But even Avengers 1, we didn't really understand where it was going to go until it happened. there was the Even the Loki plot in that, we don't really know. It's like, what is he doing? It's like, okay, this isn't related to the other movies. like It's not really exactly. you know what i'm saying? There's no late...
Speaker: We're not getting a stream... like ah In fact, we actually have more leeway on this one because we know that Doctor Doom is being played by Robert Downey Jr. So that already is intriguing on its own and there's probably history there that we don't understand. That's what's interesting about it overall. I don't know. i'm not I'm not negative at all on this except for the fact that I feel like It's hard to maybe follow for, I guess, people who haven't followed it at all. Maybe that will be interesting, but that's the job of the Russo brothers to make that happen and their writing team. Yeah, that's fair. People are kind of intrigued without actually having to watch the, you know, there's no homework required theoretically for the rest of the, for this particular two movie event. But I don't know. You got two theoretically three hour movies to get this done. I think they can do it. Maybe they maybe should have made it a trilogy like they planned. I'm not saying that they won't get it done. I'm just saying, like, based off this trailer, just like I just I have no hype for it. Hype isn't the right thing. I'm curious. I'm excited. I want to watch the movie. I'm curious what's going to happen, but I'm, I wasn't watching this trailer shit my fucking pants out because I'm just like, I don't know. There hasn't been lead. I never shit my pants with trailer. I try to keep my expectations in check anyway, but I'm like, I'm excited for it during a trailer.
Speaker: Never even one time. No, one does. You've never shit your pants a single time. There's an example of a trailer i saw recently that I'm like, I almost shit my pants, but it was not for the reasons of excitement. Okay. Interesting. Was it a reasons for fear?
Speaker: No, no. um but you know what i thought you were going to say? I'm surprised you said what you said. i thought what you were going to say is i'm I'm disappointed because they ruined, again, because I still believe this is the one thing I'm disappointed about. Actually, yeah, this is what I was trying to say before. and I forgot what I was saying.
Speaker: Train of thought issue. um But the problem with this trailer is that they revealed these things that you didn't need to reveal. I would never have guessed that was Robert Downey Jr.'s voice, and that was a Why are you not? Because there's no hype for this version of this. This multiverse saga is badly done. I agree with you there.
Speaker: It's just not good. It's not incohesive. It's incoherent almost. Like, what is going on? yeah You know what I'm saying? Like, that's the problem. I am hyped for this movie because the Russo brothers are back and I do like these characters. I'm curious where they're going to go with it.
Speaker: But I'm hyped for it independently from the other movies because like, where did Shang-Chi go? I agree with you there. What the hell? Where did he go? The thing is also I love Loki a lot and I feel like the Loki is maybe the one piece of homework that I'd recommend people to watch because it seems like it's directly related. It's the most multiverse thing they've made to be honest. Nothing else is more multiverse than that. Multiverse of madness is multiverse of like.
Speaker: There's like four. There's four universes. Yeah, it's not. It's three, isn't it? Is it four? Maybe it's four. ah Who cares? It's not many, but there's the pizza ball universe is the one with the X-Men. There's the zombie one.
Speaker: If it was coherent initially, or if they had built it up over time, like my theory earlier was the whole idea with end games, you can't end end game, like the Infinity War end game, the Infinity Saga. You don't end it without building something out. Like you you create tendrils for the next saga, but they fail to do that. They just, they they started it from scratch from like zero. You can't start again from zero. There's a lot of TV shows with plot arcs that do that, where they end the plot arc and they have nothing planned. And like, oh, we're just going write new one.
Speaker: Yeah, that's what they did for the mentalist. I never watched it. You just referenced that before. They did that in Chuck. Actually, it was a good example. And I think they did that in heroes as well. If I recall correctly, they end up the first season line and they don't plan anything else. Like you don't, you thought you were going to canceled after season one. Like, what are you doing here? So it's like, that's an issue that they dealt with and they haven't dealt with actually.
Speaker: And when they get to this now, they just have to build a really compelling argument in the two movies. But I think that if if they had created a compelling saga initially, this is my problem with it.
Speaker: This is my problem with the trailer. They would have had no reveal about Robert Downey Jr. and no reveal about Chris Evans. How awesome would that be in a theater? What do they have for tricks up their sleeve? I hope they have something. That's all I'm going to say. I don't know because I haven't seen it. But that's the one negative is like, imagine that was Robert Downey the whole time and he takes off the mask and he's just speaking with his dialect. You know, like what? Because I can barely hear him through that. I'm like, I was like, is that not him? Because the way the words he's saying as well, he kind of is painting himself as a hero.
Speaker: And I think that's really intriguing, too, because the most compelling villains think they're heroes. Isn't that the idea? So that's what's so cool. He like is kind of arguing what he says like, I can't remember now, but I watched it a few times just the beginning because I thought I'm like, is that actually him? Because he's killing it.
Speaker: So that's the most interesting thing about it for sure. Still, I do recommend, by the way, watching season two of Loki because it's really good. And I think it's i should i'm I'm happy that um like Tom Hiddleston's back is Loki in this and he's in the trailer. So he's in the he's on the chairs. I'm like, how are they going to bring this guy back? I don't really. I didn't really understand post Loki. I was confused like because it's its ends really well. it's It's it's a good show. It's really awesome. So I'm curious to see what they what they do.
Speaker: But yeah, anyway, yeah, I'm not negative. I'm I am hyped. I'm more hyped now than before. i was not hyped when they showed Chris Evans. i'm like, what's the point of this? I just don't understand that one teaser trailer. Like here he is. Steve Rogers is back. Are you happy? yeah And then again, they doubled down on it in this trailer. where I was like, oh man, it's like, oh, Steve Rogers back and look at him. He's fucking taking Mjolnir out of Thor's hand. I'm like, ah,
Speaker: There was a theory apparently going around that people thought that he was actually like dark Captain America, like Captain Hydra or something like that. yeah But I don't think that's possible because he took Mjolnir. but He's worthy. So no, I don't think so. I think that answers the question. Unless Mjolnir is corrupted or something, I don't think Mjolnir would allow you to hold it. you know Yeah,
Speaker: Anyway, so yeah, I'm excited. I'm no man. I think we're going more hyped. I think we're gonna be like, yeah, they're back, dude. We're going to we're going to see something fun. It's going to be another moment. I'm excited about it. Don't get me wrong. I'm excited. I just feel like the trailer I was I was left. I just hope they have tricks up their sleeve. That's the one worry. I'm like, did you reveal everything? If you did, you're fools.
Speaker: Because it's a movie. I'm not watching trailers. I don't care about the trailer. like I want to see the movie. I want to see what you have for the magic. What's the magic in the theater? What's the moment where he does grab Mjolnir in the theater and the fans cheer? Is there a moment where, you know?
Speaker: certain characters show up like in like like yeah some spider-man movies that you're like oh my god dr doom's gonna pull out his phone and you know he's gonna call he's gonna call jonathan majors as kang and kang was actually the villain the entire time still yeah and kang shows and then he just leaves dr doom's like yeah i'm done here i'm leaving thank you i'm done i am not this domestic abuse guy He's a domestic abuse man who's got multiples. I don't need to be here anymore. And then Ant-Man's going to be like, I beat the shit out of you in my movie. That wasn't that good. Remember? But that was only one man. You're going to to beat the shit out him 50 times. Can you do? 50 people that are going beat the shit out of their wives or girlfriends or whatever. Oh, dear. All right.
Speaker: That's awful. thinking a to do that Let's not get into that. All right. um What else we got here? I guess that's it. Should we move on? Oh, there was another thing. I'm sorry, Spider-Man. Yeah. Okay, let's go through that. All right. He also said about Miles Morales showing up the MCU, quote, one of the fun things about this business is that we're always dreaming and coming up with ideas. There's a line in Spider-Man No Way Home where Electro says, quote,
Speaker: i don't know I'm saying quote for that, but yeah, he says, somewhere there's bound to be a black Spider-Man. And audiences around the world were thrilled because they knew it might be a hint at Miles. The good news is that Sony has the Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse series, which are very popular and excellent. And that's all you're going to get I'm kidding. That's not what he said.
Speaker: and Excellent. and beyond the unit And Beyond the Universe is coming out next year. but Beyond the Spider-Verse. But yeah, why do I have Beyond the Universe? I copied and pasted this. So IGN either transcribed it wrong or Beyond the Spider-Verse is coming out next year. But yes, we definitely have plans. And I think a live action Spider-Man movie has this destiny to add miles sometime after the Spider-Verse films end, that series ends.
Speaker: We've been thinking and discussing more Spider-Man adventures, regardless of agreements or contracts. My production partner, Amy Pascal, is already working on it. and we're we've And we've had in-depth discussions about what the next two, three, four, and five Spider-Man movies might be about.
Speaker: It's interesting because I read that whole thing I was like, obviously Miles is coming. But when he said two, three, four, and five, i was like wow, this guy this guy's in it. He's in it to win it. I appreciate that about Kevin Feige because he...
Speaker: the the the Marvel Cinematic Universe is kind of at a low, which is still kind of a high. Like, they still make hundreds of millions of dollars at the box office for every movie, and people are like, oh, they failed, which is fair, because they had to higher expectations, right? Obviously. Yeah, yeah.
Speaker: But i I would say like it's interesting. Spider-Man is going to keep selling no matter what. But it's like two, three, of four and five. It's like, wow. Yeah, I guess that makes sense. But I'm always excited for Spider-Man movies lately, especially because they've been really good. With the amazing Spider-Man era, I was kind of like hit and miss. But these particular ones have been really solid since like John Watts.
Speaker: And honestly, again, i said this before, but Destin Daniel Cretton seems like a really like a match made in heaven for this. directing job so i'm curious but yeah any thoughts on the miles thing or the five movies inevitably coming out next yeah i mean i mean i i feel like this is to be expected i'm curious if it's even going to be teased as early as um the new spider-man movie coming out whatever it's maybe But because he's saying that it has to end, they have to end the Spider-Verse series first, maybe they won't do it. Or maybe they'll tease it. You're right, because the next movie is coming out in 2027.
Speaker: It may be right, yeah. It could just be teased because they don't need to worry about it too much. but The thing is you who are you going to cast? Because again, if you're going to catch ah cast a teenager, you've got to be careful with aging again.
Speaker: you're going to cast somebody young enough. I can't think of it. Teenage black actors. the The one honestly that strikes me as like being a great choice before this, like before these like situations, like he started talking about this before we, there's been many, many years now, but the stranger things, dude.
Speaker: Oh dude. Yeah. That's a really good one. Caleb. ah What is it called? Caleb. Caleb. Caleb Stranger Things. Yeah, that's a good choice, personally.
Speaker: And it's interesting because... He's 24. Yeah, he's old now. That's too old. Too late. It always happens like this. It's like Nathan Fillion is Nathan Drake. It's like that didn't happen because they waited freaking 20 years to make Uncharted.
Speaker: And then they cast Tom Holland, which i so I don't know. It's funny. I think he did a good job, but I think Tom Holland is a mismatch overall. Spider-Man? Oh, he's great as Spider-Man.
Speaker: As I know as a Nathan Drake. Oh, sorry. Sorry. um I, I, I, I disconnected from what you were saying. Yeah. Yeah. A hundred percent. I think it' it's not, he did a good job as fucking Sully is like the dumbest thing ever. I don't know. It's like, yeah, that wasn't my problem with that movie overall. I just found the plot kind of boring, but I just kind of, like that's kind of, I wish, I don't know. It's like, I know Amy Pascal likes Tom Holland, but like, do we, he doesn't have to be in everything.
Speaker: in he and And he can be in everything, but in the right role. I feel like that would be better. But um yeah, he did good, though. He did a good job with what he was given. anyway, um so yeah, I'm excited for this. I'm curious to see who they cast, but I think it's going a while. I think they're going to wait because again, child actors, if you're a teenager, you're going to grow too fast and then maybe it's like too late. But Caleb caleb McLaughlin would have been good a few years ago if they were going to like maybe have him in this movie, but they're not really seemingly doing that. Tom Holland in multiple interviews has kind of said that he wanted to be a steward almost like Robert Downey Jr. was for him for joining the MCU, which would be interesting. Yeah. You know what ah you' I was talking about earlier, though, and just to go back to it really briefly, they're doing with Spider-Man what they're kind of doing going to do with MCU in terms of the groundedness, right? Spider-Man's still a wacky character, but Spider-Man was going to space, guy. That's what I'm trying to say. Like, that's so crazy and grand. Spider-Man's this friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Nothing is grounded in this MCU. It's all crazy because there's just too much stuff going on. So a reset would be kind of nice.
Speaker: you know that's what i mean that's kind i was of saying before if that makes sense i hope you kind of caught what i was saying i thought the later stages of my argument but um okay that's it anything else no are you looking at something specific i was just looking at uh teenage black actors okay who's who's up and coming i don't know it is not this is not doing a good job I really like Miles Morales, by the way.
Speaker: I think it just as a character, like he's really good in the video games. I think like spider the Spider-Verse is really good too. I just like the, like they put a lot of work into the the history of him. I like this idea as well. Like you didn't like just make Peter Parker black. Like I like this. I like the idea of he's ah he's a Puerto Rican.
Speaker: Yeah, it's just really good backstory and really well written. i just like it overall. It's good. i do I'm not a big fan of just changing a character. Oh, he's black now. So it works in some instances, especially when it like it just doesn't matter. Name one.
Speaker: What? James Bond. I would like James Bond to be black. That's fine. I don't care. That doesn't bother. but Because i don't think that's, you know I'm saying? It doesn't dictate the character in any way. But Superman is an example. there were Remember there was going to be remember that? Actually. Yeah, wasn't it? It was Michael B. Jordan, like, spin-off project thing. Was it him or?
Speaker: I don't remember if it was him, but that would have been cool because they were going do something different with it. A twist on it is a really cool idea, but I think that Superman being black kind of, it doesn't necessarily work with the character confines, um but it works if you're going to change it up and actually have it influence the story. But just like doing it and like not having it influence it, I'm not sure it would work as well.
Speaker: But James Bond, I think it could work. that That was that producer that said that the care the actor needs to be unknown. They also said that the actor shouldn't be black, actually. I'm like, oh, okay. I don't know. I don't know that. But whatever. You made you put Daniel Craig in and he's blonde. 007 is not blonde. I'm sorry, but that's just not true. So why then why can't you just make the character black? what' it matter?
Speaker: Anyway, they're like, oh, can't be black. and can't It can't be a person of color and it can't be a woman. It's like, no, it can't be woman? i understand because he's a womanizer. So I feel like you're changing the character fundamentally. Lesbians. My argument earlier. Yeah.
Speaker: yeah I get it, but that's, again, a fundamental change of the character. No? Is that not fundamentally different? Anyways, let's move on. Are you ready to shift gears? I'm ready to move on.
Speaker: All right, dude. All right, we got – this is the next segment of our show, of course, as it always is, a segment of our show called A Look to the Future. A portion of our podcast where each of us present at least three of our picks for the TV series or movies that look most interesting to us that are releasing between the dates of July 14th and July 27th, 2026. As is customary, you go first. What are your three picks or more, sir? First pick of three. um I mean, we were just talking about it, so I'll just list the obvious one. May as well just list the obvious one, Simon.
Speaker: And it is the movie titled The Devil's Mouth. It's coming out on July 29th. It stars Catherine Newton. that That's in the most recent Ant-Man movie. Yes. um And it's about these kids that go into this cave. It's like a freshwater cave and and a shark starts killing them all.
Speaker: Okay. Excellent. Yeah. All right. Cool. My pick is Ted Lasso, Adrian. Season three premieres on August 5th, which is pretty exciting. Season four. Yeah. Oh, season four. I'm sorry. Yeah, of course. Season three was awesome. Season four.
Speaker: I miswrote there and then misspoke. But yeah, Ted Lasso season four. Pretty exciting. Ted Lasso's coaching a women's team now, I believe. Nice. Wonderful.
Speaker: Yeah. All right. My next movie again, we're just talking about this, so I'll just I'll just get it out of the way. It's the movie called One Night Only. It's coming out on August 7th. It starts Callum Turner.
Speaker: ah How is it not Calum? Is that not how you spell Calum? Is it different? It's pronounced Calum. There is a Calum. Calum is a name. Not this guy.
Speaker: Yeah, I'm aware. But how do you spell Kalem? maybe Maybe there is no Kalem. Maybe there is no Kalem. Maybe I've been saying the name wrong my whole life. Maybe some people are what what want it to be pronounced that.
Speaker: Maybe. All right. You know?
Speaker: Okay, is it my turn? Yeah, it's one night only. It's about one night. you can know You're only allowed to have sexual intercourse and sexual ah get up to sexual proclivities for for one evening. and and And that's the only time it's legal.
Speaker: And then Callum Turner and the and the woman in the movie, they're like, oh let's help each other out. But in in they have undeniable sexual chemistry. Here's the thing about this. Isn't the most, this is the actually kind of reminds me of the long walk. Okay.
Speaker: Okay. Isn't this like the most interesting thing, the politics of this world. And they're not going to talk about that at all. They're just going to skip over that and do the rom-com bits. That's what, that's what I'm thinking is going to happen. They were never going to know anything about else about this, or they're going to do one night only too. And then they're going to kind of dive more into the politics as they go.
Speaker: Maybe. Yeah. I feel like that's going to be distracting for me. I'm like, but what, what about the, the way this government operates? Like, how is this anyway? Yeah. How does it operate? I don't know. Like, are they going to like what's causing them to get to this point? Like what made the world like this? Is it? Yeah.
Speaker: Is it like a crazy like STD epidemic? Is there too many people? Too many cooks. um Too many people like they're worried about or they yeah wouldn't know that wouldn't even matter because then everyone would be born on the same day it would probably cause an issue because probably contraception would be forgotten about because nobody has sex except for the one day. So they just for forget. know They forget and then more babies would actually happen. I was thinking like are they trying to stop babies from being born?
Speaker: They might try to stop babies. Will like reduce the amount? Because I mean like theoretically, yeah, everyone's getting born at the same time. But if if if it's like that's the only time you're allowed to do it, then it's kind of like, okay.
Speaker: that it'll It'll just naturally reduce it. And is this just in America? this just in New York City where this movie takes place? Is this the entire world?
Speaker: There's so many questions. Yeah, we don't know the answers. Yeah. Yeah. Indeed. All right. Cool, man. Yeah. All right. ah The next ah film on my list here is I Want Your Sex.
Speaker: The Olivia Wilde starring Cooper Hoffman starring comedy, another comedy about sex. Look at that. Wow. That film's coming out on. What do I have written here? it's coming out.
Speaker: Oh, I don't actually have the date. Oh, perfect. The one I don't have the date for. i think it was the 31st though. Am I wrong? Nope. Nope. July 31st. Yep. That's right. 31st of July. Your pick.
Speaker: That's crazy, man. yeah All right. Finally, I'll just get it out of the way. Clearly, we've been meaning to talk about this for a while. And it's, you know, I actually talked about this.
Speaker: Two weeks ago, Eli Roth, who starred in Inglourious Bastards, his new movie's coming out. It's called Ice Cream Man. And it's like, imagine if the ice cream man murdered people. Right. And that's coming out August 7th.
Speaker: Excellent. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Cool, man. Cool, man. All right. Well, ah my next pick is ah is the pick that I knew you were going to say from the beginning. This is the real is the real gem, the one that you keep hinting at, but then you just skip over.
Speaker: um It's Star Wars Visions Presents The Ninth Jedi. Did you hear about this? I did hear about this. So the main series out of the Star Wars Visions anthology, two episodes, because they did two seasons, I believe, of this show. It's the anime, the anime Star Wars show. Yeah. But each episode of the show, Star Wars Visions, is a different, whole different plot line, different characters, different animation style.
Speaker: But interestingly, they decided to make a show out of the Ninth Jedi plotline. So there's a full eight episodes based on this this plot, which is kind of cool. So anyway, I just thought that was neat. It's like Marvel Zombies.
Speaker: Where they did the Marvel Zombies episode. Based on What If. Yeah, What If. and then Yeah, good call. All right, you got any extras? You got any residual? ah Okay, like fine. I'll just get to to the most obvious one. um no you won Why are you rolling your eyes? No, you won't.
Speaker: I'm going to. Little liar. Little liar. um This one's technically...
Speaker: Yeah, it's Spider-Man. It's coming out July 31st. Okay. Sounds good. You call my bluff. I'm just going to do it. You got it. It's Spider-Man. It's the new Spider-Man movie. It's pretty exciting. July 31st. You bought tickets for this one.
Speaker: I did. Thank you. It's like nine of us going or some shit. It's crazy, man. Crazy. Super exciting. I'm very excited for this. This is this is a fun this is a fun year for movies. i'm very excited. I'm excited for Doomsday, as I mentioned. I'm excited for Spider-Man. I'm so excited for The Odyssey next week as well.
Speaker: um i've I've talked to some people who have watched it and they've like just raved about it, which is awesome. I've talked to one guy that's watched it and he didn't like it. I know. You told me. Yeah. You told me like moments ago. was like an hour ago. Yeah.
Speaker: yeah Okay. I've got a few here just to rattle off. Super Troopers 3 is coming back. so Super Troopers is coming back, I should say. Super Troopers 3 is on August 7th, which is interesting. We got... um I guess it's like a horror.
Speaker: or i don't know. It's not really a comedy. No. I don't know. Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma. Did you see this? Yeah. Hannah Einbinder and Gillian Anderson. Yeah. It's by the person that did um I Saw the TV Glow.
Speaker: which I never watched. Yeah, movie, to be clear. Again, August 7th. I saw the TV glow was also a movie. Okay, yeah. I'm just saying, just to be clear, I didn't say. Okay, cool. um But also, I also got one more. Do you have any? got one more that I think you should interested in. I have one, but this is kind of a cheat. This show came out many years ago, but they're finally re-releasing it on streaming. It's Nirvana, the band, the show. Right, right, right. Because you can't get it anywhere. I've been looking for it since I watched the movie. In Canada, was it anywhere in the States? Maybe.
Speaker: This is a Canadian show. They're Canadian dudes. Oh, right. That's true. So, yeah, might have been in some kind of licensing agreement elsewhere. Yeah. so So they're releasing it on Hulu in the States, I think this week, and then on August 7th in Canada on Disney+. Cool. So I'm excited. I'm going to watch this because I really loved the movie.
Speaker: That's fair. This movie, I'm surprised you didn't say it only because i'm yeah I know you like the the movie that it is spun off from. Soulmate, Adrian, comes out August 1st, but it's going right to digital rental.
Speaker: So it's basically based on the Megan franchise. I'm three again. Yeah, I'm three again. Which it's weird because it didn't it's not going to theaters. So must be pretty bad. I just watched the trailer today. It doesn't look bad.
Speaker: it looks just the crazy ridiculous. M3GIN 2 was ah m threegan two was a flop. Right. no So maybe that's why they're just worried about that. But this is yeah another atomic monster slash bloom bloom house movie. So, yep.
Speaker: Usually they back pretty good projects, at least lately. They've been solid. They've made a lot of money. Yeah. i don't know. It's weird though. um Okay. That's it. That's it. That's it, buddy. Cool. but One more segment of our show as usual. Yes. Are you ready for it?
Speaker: Yep. All right, now onto the trailer, the final segment of our show where we each present our favorite trailer of the week. Adrian, you go first as it's customary. Cool, man. i'm going to present my favorite trailer of the week. I have a few, i like I told you, I have seven trailers listed. we just talked We already talked about one, but I'm going to just talk about the one that makes me most excited.
Speaker: Yes. And it is... The Resident Evil trailer, the official trailer launched this morning as of when we're recording this, Simon. Yes. Directed by Zachary Kreger.
Speaker: Zach Kreger. I don't know why I call him Zachary. i don't know if he goes by that. Could be Zachariah. Zacharias. Zacharias.
Speaker: Zaccarina Romano, like the cheese. But no, this Resident Evil trailer looks freaking amazing, dude. Way more hints and nods to the game universe. A lot of these like little, um again, nods to the to the games, finding a shotgun, looking for bullets. Um, you know, the typewriter in the one room that he walks into, which is like a safe room, all these little things.
Speaker: This, this trailer looks really good. I'm very excited about this. It's clear. Zach Kregor has a lot of like love for the resident evil, uh, Frank gaming franchise. It's clear that he's putting a lot of effort into this movie. Again, weapons is awesome. Barbarians is awesome. barbarian is awesome this movie looks so good i cannot wait for this this might be my most anticipated movie of the year might be wow okay for the rest of the year um cannot wait dude this looks so stellar uh coming out in uh september ah sorry october right if if i recall correctly or is it september yeah i believe it's ladies september september
Speaker: is it september Why am I thinking it was September 18th? You might be right. But maybe it is October. This is stacked year, so i can't the dates are all escaping me.
Speaker: little bit. But October is a good month for it. Yeah, I agree. Halloween time.
Speaker: Are you looking it It is September 18th. was correct. Oh, wow. Right on the dot. Good for you. I love that memory. Incredible. All right. i have a few listed, but I did pick Avengers doomsday because I did think the trailer was hyped. I just thought that it's the way it starts in particular because of Robert Downey.
Speaker: I just think that it's awesome. I just, again, I, they don't show his face. I don't really know why. they had to reveal it as my issue, but it's not really an issue with the trailer. I think the trailer was good. And I think, I don't know how the, I don't know what the views are like. Did you notice the, the views being particularly high on the doomsday trailer?
Speaker: Um, i haven't looked recently, but, um, I'll check right now really quick. Otherwise I've got like runners up. Do you, I think you do too, right? For, I do. I do indeed. um The Clayface trailer dropped the other day. This movie looks great, dude. Yeah, dude. I'm so excited about this as well. Again, written by Mike Flanagan. I forget who it's directed by, but they're going all in on that R rated horror.
Speaker: um It looks uncomfortable. There's a scene in the trailer where it looks like this guy's about to cut open his like eyelid or like his eyes essentially because it's like morphing together. um god damn it. This looks like it's going to be some like very cool like body horror.
Speaker: stuff while while still. Yeah, i don't know. i'm I'm I'm very excited about this. I really hope this is good. I really hope this is good. And then another trailer that I'm going to bring up because I don't think you're going to talk about this. So it's a movie called It Ends. Have you have you seen the trailer for this one?
Speaker: I don't think so. This one is really cool. So it's a horror movie, like a horror thriller. And it's about these, ah like, uh, these three friends that are, I guess on a road trip and they go on a road, like this random road that for whatever reason just continues going straight to not end.
Speaker: And it does not end. And, um, the The trailer for this seems so interesting because it's like there's like this weird, almost like comedic element to it.
Speaker: But it's also like a terrifying premise. You know, it's like, how would these teenage kids or, you know, early 20s kids react to being like stuck on this never ending road And um this must have ah played at some random film festival because there's 25 reviews and it's 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. These reviews are all from a year ago.
Speaker: yeah Like over a year ago. So I'm very intrigued about this this. This looks really cool. It's coming out in a few weeks. This is definitely a must watch on my list. Okay.
Speaker: That's cool. I have a few others, but I'll let you list yours. yours Okay, Behemoth. the Did you see this? Tony Gilroy's next movie with Pedro Pascal? Yeah, I did. i did. it it looks like a pretty cool trailer. I'm curious to see what directions the plot's going to go. It'll be interesting. um The other one I've got listed here, and again, my trailer the week best trailer of the week, whether the movie's good or not, is Avengers Doomsday, but I'm, yeah again, listing these as...
Speaker: extra options that are pretty good this is a big week for trailers honestly i also love there's so many trailer it was awesome i just saw it was today right that was just today that was this morning yeah yeah um the mayday trailer with ryan reynolds and kenneth brahna kenneth brahna being a standout did you watch that that really entertaining yeah brahna is like an action hero i just think it's awesome He's the older really gentleman in comparison to those two fellas. But Ryan Reynolds, like his plane goes down. Is it in World War II? Yeah, it's in the in in the Soviet Union.
Speaker: it goes down. Oh, Cold War. Oh, it's the Cold War. Yeah. He drop drops down the Cold War and then like the American soldiers is in basically behind enemy lines. Correct. Kenneth Branagh is a big fan of America, so he's like saving this guy, and it's just like this ridiculous Russian guy. It just looks awesome and very entertaining. I'm keen on this one. I think I would want to watch it. Oh, another movie that just came, ah a trailer just came out for it. i didn't even write it down. have it. The ah Coyote vs. Acme trailer. Did you see that? I did indeed. That's on my list as well.
Speaker: That looks so good, dude. We got to see it day one though, because I really want to support it. Catch Up Entertainment killed it. They brought that movie back to life. It was going to die. Yeah, we got to go see that. It looks really good. There was a moment at the end of that trailer with John Cena and Tweety Bird. I just thought it was pretty good. Yeah, it's really good, dude. It looks really good. I'm very excited about that.
Speaker: Yeah, I really like well Will Forte as well. I just think everything he's in, um he generally brings his A game and I just, I like him a lot. Okay, so that's that. I'll keep going. um We got... Did I go through all of them already?
Speaker: Oh, this one's really interesting. Robert De Niro. don't know if you got this one written down. um It's... ah What's his name? Oh, my God. i Did I write... How would I forget his name? He's such a good actor, and he's been in a lot of things recently, including horror movies.
Speaker: I'm forgetting his name. Michelle Monaghan. It's a stupid name to forget, to be honest. ah But I'll write it down. I'll write the name into the YouTube and I'll pick it up here. But it's the movie Whisper Man. Did you watch the trailer for this?
Speaker: Oh, with Adam Scott. Yeah, I did watch it. Adam Scott. The one name I couldn't remember. Thank you. Yeah, Whisper Man. It's a horror, but it's like a horror like it looks kind of like Zodiac or something like that. It's more of like a serial killer drama horror. More of a thriller, I think. The Whisper Man is a dumb name. I'm going to be honest with you. I don't like the name.
Speaker: Oh, really? Yeah, there's something about I'm like, oh, it's the Whisper Man. But he's whispering, though. There's an element of like him whispering on tape. Brother, that I know. It's scary. it's no it's No, they don't. The thing is, is these these killers don't get the names. They don't make their own name. They got a name from the press, right? That that kind of makes sense.
Speaker: You don't like it? I don't know. i feel like you're gotta to come up with something more creative. What you mean come up with it? He's whispering on the tape, and the press came up with the name. Or do you think they should have just not named it after the killer and name i don't know you you just name him something else make make the press come up with something more interesting the press isn't creative that's the whole idea but isn't that the idea behind like spider-man and batman there's a joke over for keep you man modern movies is that that's not really how the names come up i guess but it comes up in the movies to ground it pee pee poo poo man yeah people v man actually that's rick and morty right did they aren't they doing like a rick and morty spin-off they are president curtis
Speaker: Right, yeah. Yeah. I don't know when I, did we already talk about that coming out? I have no idea. I don't know. I'm distracted. The other one is ah the movie I just talked about earlier that I said actually almost made me poo my pants because it was, i actually got, the way it's shot in this trailer was really good.
Speaker: And it's Other Mommy. Did you watch the trailer for this? did watch the other trailer. It did get me actually. I'm like, wow, that jump scare was freaking freaky. I was like freaked out. It's cool. This trailer is interesting because there's there's that trope where it's always like the kid being like, oh, but there's a monster. what What's going on? and And immediately they pull the rug out from under you where yeah the parents like, what the fuck? like He sees it. And sees it. the The father sees this weird visible friend. Jessica Chastain. Yeah.
Speaker: Who is the mom. It's crazy. i Yeah. that That was a cool trailer. I'm curious if they just... You know, they they showed all that because they're like, we need this movie is not that good. And we got to bring people in and show like the coolest scare.
Speaker: um But I hope maybe with Jessica Chastain attached to it. She's very good in everything. She's great. And she I'm not saying she must be selective. I'm saying like, I don't think she would pick.
Speaker: Do you think she's not selective? I feel like I'm sure she is. Yeah. But you never know. Yeah, yeah, sure. Could have been, a could be a dud in the end. Yeah, I don't know. But you're not, you're not, are you not hyped for that one? You think of my not No, I'm curious about it. I'm excited about it. Don't get me wrong. I thought that was a cool trailer. I just don't know for sure.
Speaker: I didn't actually pull my pants just to be clear. It just it did get me. the bo pe It's funny, but because I watched this because I was like watching trailers for this segment. I'm like, oh, I guess I should see this because it keeps showing up because it was it was the preview before the Odyssey.
Speaker: And apparently people were freaked out. to like, I just want to watch this ancient Greek movie. And I got like, I'm scared during it's not even the same genre. Why are you showing us this movie? And before this? Yeah. um But I was watching it in the corner of my screen. i wasn't even watching it nearly a full screen. I had it like just as a tiny window on my monitor.
Speaker: So I was barely even watching it. And I just I was watching it. I still got jump scared. It didn't matter how small it was. I was invested and I yeah i got like Jesus. freaking, they it's the way it's shot, it was like a lot of quick shots in quick succession and then they do a tracking shot with the father. I'm like, this is a really well done. I'm curious to see if the rest of the movie is like that or again, whether it's just ah one of those instances where the trailer is better than the movie, which has happened many times.
Speaker: The trailer is just excellent and the movie is not... um But yeah, that's it. Anything else you want to mention before we go? Yeah, I got two, man. They released the final Spider-Man trailer as well, like a week ago. I didn't watch that. I'm i'm going to try to avoid it. see if It doesn't show much more. It doesn't show much more at all. it It's an interesting trailer. They maybe show like a couple of additional scenes or extend a couple scenes. But um this trailer was better than the last one.
Speaker: Oh, yeah, are right. Because we both didn't really love the last one. The first one was great. And the second one was kind of like, eh. Yeah, this one I liked more and it got me ah like more hyped for for the the movie. um So i'm I'm very curious about it. There's a couple of lines in it where I'm like, oh, what does that mean? So that's cool. And then they had one final trailer for End of Oak Street as well, um which I cannot wait for, dude.
Speaker: When is that? Gregor Ann Hathaway dinosaurs. Come on, dude. When is it? Come on. ah In like a few weeks. Oh, well, August. Yeah, it's August. OK, yeah, that's by the yeah it follows guy.
Speaker: It's busy, busy next few months here. I know, dude. Summer's like as well. That's the thing. you Too many games, too many movies. You're telling me. I still gotta watch Evil Dead Burn, but no one wants to watch it with me.
Speaker: Yeah, I don't. I've never watched any Evil Dead movies. That's okay. It's like a, a blind spot. So I'm like, I'm not gonna, what am I gonna be a poser and just go watch this random movie, like with six movies in a, Isn't it like what are they? They're all like it's only I think the first three Evil Dead movies that are like directly connected. They're all like in the same universe, but it's not. Yeah, I get it.
Speaker: Yeah. And I've only watched Evil Dead one, the original. And then I watched Evil Dead Rise. And then I watched the Evil Dead like reboot one. And I still haven't watched Evil Dead two or three or Ash versus Evil Dead. So like I'm kind of a poser, dude, but I liked Rise.
Speaker: It's not all Rise. All right. Well, race, dude. So dumb. Okay. Uh, that's it, I guess for the show. Do you have anything else to talk about? Say to the audience before we leave?
Speaker: No, I, um, I guess like real quick, man. Yeah. I know your dog had surgery. I did. Did it go well? Is he okay? Okay. It did go well.
Speaker: He is. Yeah. The thing is, is about where surgery is tough because it's a pretty big surgery and like the blood clot could, could blow out, I guess like you can lose the blood clot, which is scary. Uh, cause it's so early. We, I just picked them up this morning. It's very scary, man. I just want looking at him. He's wearing the cone.
Speaker: I just, he's looked so sad. I have to give him like anti-anxiety medication cause we can't have him running around. It's very important that he doesn't, run around because again you can blow the break the stitches blow the clot and it's a pretty major so surgery he had liver cancer and so they had to take out the mass and so it's they're not even sure whether it was malignant tumor or not whether it would come back or not but yeah it's it's a it's a tough one but it it seems like it seems like it went well and I just hope he's running around in two weeks me too post this but looking at the stitches it's like very it makes me so sad for him you know yeah you're just looking at it like oh man he just went through so hell and he's still like a happy that he's like, Oh, Hey buddy. He's just like, looks at me and he's like wagging his tail still. I'm like, you shouldn't do that. Just sit down. Yeah. You know, it, yeah. It breaks my heart. Cause they just, they don't understand man. And, um, yeah, I know again, like, um, yeah, I re I re I'm, I'm glad that it went well. I hope he has a swift recovery, dude. I, I,
Speaker: Your dog's awesome. I love Reddington. He's such a cutie. He's such a polite i'll let him know you sent yeah gentleman. You know, I've spent many a times with him. Right. You know, that one time when I went over while you guys were gone and I hung out with him and and and your, and your cat tubs. Yeah. tubs um Yeah. But yeah, Reddington's wonderful. and And I wish him a swift recovery. Send him my regards.
Speaker: Will do. Tell him love the little dude. the The little big dude. Because he's huge, dude. He's huge. He's taller than am. He's standing up. He'd be larger than some people, I think. Yeah.
