Will Tottenham put up a fight to aid their North London neighbours, or will the Spurs decide the fate of the title despite The Gunners, just like a year ago?

Global Sports Podcast Network
Hold on, hold on. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait a minute. they were still There is still a game against Spurs, left Liverpool fans. I'm so sorry. You still need to get that done. But before you do that, welcome to the Daily English Premier League podcast hosted by Michal Czarnycki, brought to you by Global Sports Podcast Network.

Global Sports Podcast Network

00:01:20
Louie Easton
We've won the league, mate. We've won the league. let's get Let's not even speculate about a comeback. We've won the league. I i have been very, as as you know from me coming on this podcast earlier in the season, even like a couple of weeks ago, I was like, last no can still clinch it.
00:01:36
Louie Easton
Absolutely not. They can only catch us on goal difference. They have to be absolutely perfect. We have to be disastrous. And even then they can only catch us on goal difference. All we need is a point against Spurs or Chelsea or Arsenal or whoever we have for the rest of the season.

Celebrating League Victory and Dismissing Comebacks

00:01:53
Louie Easton
One point and we've won the league. That's it. ah yeah And we're playing Spurs this weekend. Lads, it's Tottenham. Like, we only need one point against them. And they have lost 18 times this season.
00:02:04
Eshan
Oh,
00:02:07
Louie Easton
So we've won the league. I'm sorry. i'm and
00:02:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Smearing the Europa League semifinalists. Ah, come on, mate.
00:02:13
Louie Easton
and See, they'll be tired after that as well.
00:02:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's not right.
00:02:15
Louie Easton
There we go. Their thoughts will be on Europa League because it's the only thing they can get for the rest of the season. And wouldn't it be fantastic? Because Arsenal are going to go trophy-less for the rest of this season and Spurs might not. So there's something very exciting happening.
00:02:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
i and I haven't made it to introduce the rest of the team for

Arsenal's Title Hopes and Match Analysis

00:02:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
today's podcast.
00:02:30
Louie Easton
Sorry, you set me off there.
00:02:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
already Yeah, I set you off. And to be honest, it was deliberate.
00:02:33
Louie Easton
ha
00:02:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I kind of take it on the chin. Victor and Ishan, those are American inputs there. Victor from Chicago. Ishan from l LA. yeah How are you guys doing, and Victor?
00:02:45
Viktor
What's up fellas, good to see
00:02:46
Eshan
Doing decent, doing decent.
00:02:48
Louie Easton
Changing energy.
00:02:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, jeez. Victor, ah what are your thoughts about what's transpired over the last couple hours with the title?
00:02:58
Viktor
ah I don't know, I mean, Arsenal can't even deliver a title to Liverpool, never mind something else. not
00:03:04
Louie Easton
yeah
00:03:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Just wait until Spurs.
00:03:04
Viktor
our I was secretly hoping they'll lose today, so we can have even happier Louis, but yeah.
00:03:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah,
00:03:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
that's...
00:03:11
Louie Easton
Oh, i'm no. they weve They've lost the title today.
00:03:15
Viktor
Yeah.
00:03:15
Louie Easton
Let's be honest.
00:03:16
Viktor
You could tell this game was...
00:03:16
Louie Easton
So, yeah.
00:03:18
Viktor
Both teams are not focused on this game. You you could tell. Arsenal has li Champions League on their mind. Crystal Palace FA Cup. So that's why it was like a combined 11s, I would say.
00:03:29
Louie Easton
Can I just say this?
00:03:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
iha Yeah.
00:03:30
Louie Easton
Arsenal are not winning the Champions League. They're not even getting to the final. kind of what Can I just get that out the way?
00:03:34
Viktor
i don't know.
00:03:35
Louie Easton
They're not.
00:03:36
Viktor
We'll see.
00:03:36
Louie Easton
i I mean, I'm sorry, but the way they played. And, you know, they have it's not like they've got Champions League in a few days' time. They've got Champions League next week. They can play. And they didn't really play against Crystal Palace. They were sloppy in defence. We saw that Mateta goal.
00:03:51
Louie Easton
Unbelievable chip. I'm sure we'll get into this game more. Sorry, I don't want to um jump ah ahead of schedule.
00:03:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
You've already hijacked the show. Come on. like just Quit pretending.
00:03:59
Viktor
Louis, I got to tell you something.
00:03:59
Eshan
New
00:04:00
Viktor
Louis, worse teams won the Champions League, aka Liverpool-Istanbul final.
00:04:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Quit pretending.
00:04:02
Eshan
host.
00:04:07
Viktor
Worse teams won this Champions League than this Arsenal team.
00:04:07
Louie Easton
That is true. That is true. But it's PSG, mate. And it's over two legs. It's over two legs.
00:04:13
Eshan
it's It's so funny because last week, it's such a contrast because I was filled with four Arsenal fans right after they came back from the Bernabeu. And they were they were so mad that I even suggested that PSG might win the next game.
00:04:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
and
00:04:27
Louie Easton
Yeah, because Arsenal fans are delusional.
00:04:29
Eshan
Yeah, yeah. I called them AFTV a few times.
00:04:30
Louie Easton
They'll think they can win everything.
00:04:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Perhaps. Perhaps.
00:04:31
Eshan
I needed to humble them. Yeah.
00:04:33
Louie Easton
Yeah, and they'll be humbled by Osman Dembele and Kavica Kavadetschkelia. We'll all be there.
00:04:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Wow. Kvartaskelia actually had troubles getting acclimatized with Paris. So that's going to be another, you know, adding more salt to injury, I guess.
00:04:48
Louie Easton
and but he was incredible against us.
00:04:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
So... He was incredible. He really was.
00:04:51
Viktor
Thank you.
00:04:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
like he got It seems that he actually got that that steam finally going. But before we move on to some other topics, let's focus on the task at hand, which is to review the game of Arsenal, again, taking on Crystal Palace. We already started...
00:05:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Talking about it slightly. um So, I would like to sponsor the review of Arsenal Crystal Palace. I would like to mention that the sponsor of and this review is number nine.
00:05:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Why is this the sponsor of this review? It's because so did tonight was Arsenal's ninth Premier League draw in a match they were leading in this season. Two more than any other side.
00:05:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's the most by a team in a season since Spurs in 2007-2008 campaign.
00:05:36
Louie Easton
Oh my word.
00:05:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Also nine. So I think this could be the start of a perfect conversation. I think, Louis, you are going to do just fine with this question. What Arsenal does not have that Liverpool does?
00:05:49
Louie Easton
um Well, Liverpool will defend to the very end of matches and they are very reactive to anything that happens in a match. um I think the Anfield factor plays a huge part in that because it sort of rallies all the Liverpool players onto the very end, especially if they're kicking towards the cop end.
00:06:08
Louie Easton
But I just think Arsenal, they they were ah bit complacent. we so We saw them passing out of the back and looking very casual. And I think they sort of underestimated Crystal Palace.
00:06:21
Louie Easton
Palace were pressing. They were incredible ah off the ball for the entire match. And um when Mateta came on, the game just completely changed as well. His impact off the bench, his hold up play, his crossing, his decision making in the final third ah was amazing.
00:06:39
Louie Easton
And he gave... ah he gave Palace a real boost when he came on and Arsenal just didn't really get into the match again. um They were wasteful in attack. ah I mean, I only saw the last sort of 20 minutes of the match because I i was doing other things ah for the rest of the game.
00:06:54
Louie Easton
But that's what I saw when I was watching. And, you know, the last 20 minutes of the match are the most important 20 minutes of the match, especially if you are leading.
00:07:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
True.
00:07:03
Louie Easton
um And they just were wasteful and they completely threw away two points.
00:07:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, but then again, those first minutes, they did not ah prepare. Definitely did not prepare any Arsenal fans for the final result. And that's going to be the question to you, Victor. Like the first minutes of Arsenal, they've been pretty that they were pretty decent, actually.
00:07:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
And not to mention, I would love to do this plug right here. Play of the match by many websites is Jakub Kivior with a goal in the second minute.
00:07:31
Viktor
There we go. There we go.
00:07:33
Eshan
at least seven minutes in
00:07:33
Louie Easton
Ah, there we go. There we go.
00:07:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, plug in Poland impossible. Oh, come on, mate. Oh, come on.
00:07:39
Louie Easton
Mikhail, just a quick question. Are you from Poland?
00:07:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes.
00:07:42
Louie Easton
I don't think you've mentioned it before.
00:07:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, the so glad you asked. So glad you asked. I'm actually, yeah, Central Poland proud. Okay, but then again, okay, let's let's let's not jump into this. I just want to talk about the overall approach of Arsenal for those first minutes because they looked kind of strong, didn't they?
00:08:00
Viktor
Yeah, they did, obviously, because they want to clinch that second spot. You want to go into the Champions League thinking, we clinched the Champions League for next year, so you don't have to worry about so then you can play different systems for the rest of them of the year in the Premier League. But again, the i think they failed.

Crystal Palace Performance and Strategy

00:08:16
Viktor
The focus was not there. And this is a second time Saliba made a mistake like this. So that if you compare to how, that's kind of like what Kivir was in the past.
00:08:27
Viktor
And now Kivir hasn't done any mistakes since he came on for Gabriel, since his injury. And Saliba is the one that you can rely on. So that's something maybe to worry Arsenal fans.
00:08:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Sure.
00:08:37
Viktor
That's how I look at things.
00:08:38
Eshan
I just want to quick touch on that.
00:08:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Mm-hmm.
00:08:40
Eshan
um We just asked ah ah Louis, what do Liverpool have the Arsenal don't. I would put a lot of Liverpool's success in the last few years down to Van Dijk and him being the central defender, like the captain of the team, the voice at the back.
00:08:53
Louie Easton
Absolutely.
00:08:58
Eshan
I'd give another example in the Premier League recently, which was um Everton played City last weekend and they were doing very well, shutting up shop for a good 50, 60 minutes.
00:09:09
Eshan
And then James Tarkovsky, their central defender, their loud voice at the back gets goes off injured. And then they give up like eight to nine to 10 chances at the end of the game and City get the win.
00:09:20
Eshan
I think having that center defender who's the voice at the back of the voice of reason is often the biggest thing in a defense.
00:09:24
Louie Easton
100%, yeah.
00:09:28
Eshan
And I think that voice in Arsenal is more Gabriel than it is Saliba. And I think like them losing him for the last few weeks, obviously they had a great result at Real Madrid and they could do wonderful in the Champions League, but they will be a weaker side.
00:09:33
Viktor
100%.
00:09:33
Viktor
It's always been like, yeah.
00:09:34
Louie Easton
ah hundred percent yeah
00:09:42
Eshan
And I think that showed um in the Real Madrid mistake with Saliba where Vinny got onto him and today's. Mateto is a wonderful finish, but it was a mistake from Saliba.
00:09:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, true, true.
00:09:54
Viktor
Personally, I would always respect a guy that's way more aggressive and Gabriel is way more aggressive than Saliba.
00:10:00
Eshan
Yeah.
00:10:00
Viktor
like in And that's what you need in like big games. and that's probably gonna You're going to see that in the Champions League. I think that's gonna what Arsenal is going to miss ah and against PSG in those two games.
00:10:10
Eshan
Yeah.
00:10:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah To be honest, Ishan, I was kind of, yeah.
00:10:10
Viktor
to have someone To have someone to bite like that and they won't have that.
00:10:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
You know what, Ishan, I was kind of expecting this quote that you would bring up many times during the discussion of ah offenses win the games, but the defenses win the championships, right?
00:10:23
Eshan
Defenses and championships, yeah.
00:10:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, but like the the um the reason why I know this quote was thanks to you bringing it up many times. So, but it's true.
00:10:30
Eshan
Mm-hmm.
00:10:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
It is actually true. And absolutely agree with but the fact that and actually, to be honest, ah to just speaking seriously for a moment, you know, Polish pride aside, let's let's let let's pretend that Kivir is not Polish, okay?
00:10:32
Louie Easton
Very true.
00:10:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
I hope this is going to smoothen it up for Louis there.
00:10:42
Eshan
Yeah.
00:10:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah So, okay, but just, oh, sure.
00:10:45
Louie Easton
I'm not complaining, mate.
00:10:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
So when you've got the, when you have like this comparison of Saliba and Jakub Kivior, out of those two, like if you, if we were to have this conversation three months ago, like how many of you would actually put Kivior over Saliba in this conversation?
00:11:02
Louie Easton
No, absolutely not.
00:11:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
None, right?
00:11:03
Eshan
Not a single one of us.
00:11:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Exactly. And yet, like look what's happening. That Jakub Kivir is actually growing to become like one of the, maybe not one of the base center backs at at at Arsenal, because Gabriel is still going to be better.
00:11:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
But I think Saliba, we can already start questioning his like you know position in the starting XI.
00:11:17
Louie Easton
Yeah.
00:11:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Isn't that right, Ishan?
00:11:24
Eshan
I would not say that, to be honest.
00:11:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
No?
00:11:26
Louie Easton
No.
00:11:26
Viktor
Yeah, no.
00:11:27
Eshan
i I think Salibas had a rough patch, but I think
00:11:27
Viktor
no
00:11:28
Louie Easton
No way.
00:11:32
Eshan
I think more now than ever, we're in such a reactionary state of the internet and the Premier League.
00:11:36
Louie Easton
Yeah.
00:11:38
Eshan
We can say, oh, they do this. But we we think to John Terry, Rio, Vidic, Vidic at the start of his Premier League reign was horrific.
00:11:49
Eshan
Horrific. like He was ah came in, just did not have the physique,

Title Race Dynamics and Tottenham's Role

00:11:54
Eshan
had some of the aggression, but was not a Premier League defender. So and I think Saliba's obviously at a further point of that journey, but...
00:11:58
Louie Easton
I would.
00:12:00
Viktor
You need games.
00:12:00
Louie Easton
Yeah.
00:12:00
Viktor
That's what you need. As a center back, you need consistency.
00:12:01
Louie Easton
No.
00:12:01
Eshan
Yeah.
00:12:02
Louie Easton
Yeah.
00:12:03
Viktor
You need to have that.
00:12:03
Eshan
Yeah.
00:12:03
Louie Easton
Exactly.
00:12:03
Viktor
And and that's why Kivior is playing with Saliba.
00:12:04
Louie Easton
and
00:12:06
Viktor
They haven't been rested since Gabriel's injury. So that's what puts Kivior where it is right now because you need that consistency.
00:12:08
Eshan
Mm-hmm.
00:12:11
Louie Easton
Okay, I'd just like to say this. He's 24 years old. He's still young and he's still got a lot of career ahead of him.
00:12:21
Louie Easton
And the way that you overcome this is by playing through these rough patches. I mean, it's just that, you know, we've seen what he's capable of and he just needs to find his way back to that top level again.
00:12:26
Eshan
Mm-hmm.
00:12:26
Viktor
Yeah.
00:12:32
Louie Easton
And he's struggling with new company in defense. You know, um when he was at his best, it was Ben White at right back and it was Gabriel next to him. um And this is also the first season with Lewis Skelly.
00:12:40
Eshan
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
00:12:43
Louie Easton
So it's a new defence with Arsenal. And, so you know, it's a transitional period for their defence at the moment, you know, coping without having their key players there. But, you know, it's you can't put all of the blame on Arsenal's defence.
00:12:58
Louie Easton
on one player having a couple of bad passes and so on maybe today's result but overall their defense over this time has been absolutely incredible and you know with these young players uh who are going through rough patches you'd still want them to play more i mean If you're a Chelsea fan, do you want Cole Palmer to be dropped at the moment? No, because you know what he can give you.
00:13:22
Louie Easton
Same with Phil Foden for Manchester City. I know he's had a rough patch, but you still want him out on the pitch to give you that sort of... To give you those shots that he does from the outside of the box.
00:13:33
Louie Easton
You know, Saliba will still make those tackles, and he made a very good block right at the end to deny Ismail Assar, a last-minute winner for Palace.
00:13:39
Eshan
Mm-hmm.
00:13:41
Louie Easton
So... If you're basing someone's entire form or entire position in the squad off a couple of mistakes, then, you know, that's very harsh.
00:13:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, I have a feeling that Manchester United has fully implemented the the philosophy of couple mistakes, do not make ah player and see where they are. ah But that's just...
00:14:02
Louie Easton
Well, look at how good Maguire's been for Manchester United this season.
00:14:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, but I kind of meant Diogo Dello, to be honest. But okay, whatever.
00:14:08
Louie Easton
Yeah. Okay.
00:14:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
We're not talking we're not talking about Majesty United. Let's focus on the Crystal Palace a little bit. Because as

FA Cup Implications on European Spots

00:14:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
much as we're focusing on the fact that Arsenal Blue ah bottled another, like almost, like like they gave those three points away just like that, based on some ah really ah like simple mistakes.
00:14:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's just focus on how Crystal Palace have, like they hey how they performed on the game. And here I've got another stat for you there. Since Oliver Glasner's first Premier League game in charge of Crystal Palace, only Alexander Isak with 32, Erling Haaland with 31, and Mohamed Salah with 30 have more Premier League goals than Jean-Philippe Mateta with 27. So I think that's just to show you how...
00:14:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Glasner has ah like successfully, ah let's just say, balanced squad and basically made a guy like Mateta a star. Victor, question for you there.
00:15:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah how do you How did you like overall the Crystal Palace performance at the Emirates?
00:15:08
Viktor
I liked it. Having in mind they have the game on Saturday, game of the season, it was a good performance. The problem with Mateta is he's still not 100% fit. He hasn't played more than 60 minutes since he came back from the injury.
00:15:19
Viktor
So this is like they're building his fitness up, and hopefully now it's time for him to to play 90 minutes on on Saturday.
00:15:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:15:26
Viktor
But again, he played like 55, 57, 45 minutes, and then today he played like, what, 30, less than 30 minutes. So... Yeah, so this is, yeah, 15 minutes today.
00:15:35
Eshan
think it was less than ten like 15 minutes or something.
00:15:37
Louie Easton
Yeah, he came on in the 80th minute.
00:15:38
Viktor
Yeah, yeah.
00:15:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Antieth minute, yeah.
00:15:40
Viktor
You can tell by his running right away. He gets super tired in the first half, in the last few games. So they want to kind of keep him in a good shape for for Saturday. And that was the goal going from the injury to this moment.
00:15:53
Viktor
Yeah.
00:15:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Absolutely.
00:15:54
Viktor
But yeah, pretty solid, pretty solid. i would say Crystal Palace has really nothing to play in in the Premier League. kind They're four five points, but again, they need to be done first with this game on Saturday, and then they can go forward from there.
00:16:07
Viktor
But this is the game they worry about.
00:16:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. So that basically, like once guys from Aston Villa, like if they wanted to review Arsenal-Crystal Palace tactically, ah Ishan, question to you, what is the one thing that Aston Villa would have to watch out for in the f FA Cup against Crystal Palace in the semifinal?
00:16:29
Eshan
um One, i would I would say that they play a very unique system and and they are flexible. They can play four at the back and three slash five at the back. They're also like, the rotation is quite underrated in Crystal Palace. Like today we saw Justin Deveni play like 80 minutes.
00:16:50
Eshan
I have, I've barely, i don't know if he's played much this season because I,
00:16:51
Louie Easton
Yeah, that's crazy.
00:16:54
Louie Easton
he He scored one goal earlier in the Premier League this season. I might have even been on his debut.
00:16:59
Eshan
yeah.
00:16:59
Louie Easton
And I haven't heard much of him since, to be honest.
00:17:02
Eshan
But the fact that they can rotate like that is is kind of crazy. And it shows the might of the Premier League that a team in 12th or 13th is able to like rotate squad like that.
00:17:06
Louie Easton
Yeah. It's.
00:17:14
Eshan
And I think that is something that Aston Villa have been notorious for this season. But people probably wouldn't expect that from Crystal Palace on paper.
00:17:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
there Well, so

Relegation Battle Examination

00:17:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
we're going to discuss Crystal Palace game against Aston Villa. We're going to preview it, of course, this was for as as well as other f FA Cup semifinals.
00:17:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
um I think we've said enough about Arsenal-Crystal Palace game. Arsenal blowing ah the the lead for the ninth time this season in the Premier League, as as the sponsor number nine ah told us.
00:17:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
and Let's move on from this game and let's look at the brighter scheme of things because we are... I think we are well into that part of the season and where individual games no longer matter this much.
00:18:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
And we just look at the brighter perspective. But before that, let's listen to the first ad, which is by Unique.
00:18:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you, Bionic, for sponsoring our ah podcast.
00:18:50
Eshan
you
00:18:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
You are listening to Daily English Premier League Podcast provided to you by Global Sports Podcast Network. And now we're going to talk a little bit about what we can expect from all those perturbations and the something that the Tigers love the most, right? So just...
00:19:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah predictions and what's going to be the final position of all of the Premier League teams. ah We know something.
00:19:14
Viktor
Thank you.
00:19:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
So let's just start with the title race. And what we know that but thanks to the draw and that we discussed already, ah Arsenal, Crystal Palace, ah two goals each, and the only hope for the Gunners to somewhat have any chance to clinch the title would be to for them to win all of the games and for Liverpool to lose all of the games.
00:19:36
Louie Easton
Mm-hmm.
00:19:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
And of course, and also by doing that, ah bettering the goal difference of Liverpool. um Louis, I'm not going to ask you whether that's possible because we already know your we already know your position on it.
00:19:46
Louie Easton
yeah
00:19:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's not possible. Spurs, whatever, blah, blah, blah, whatever. Sorry, man. So let's ask the more non-biased experts, Manchester United fans, Victor and Ishan, what are the prospects of Arsenal actually like doing achieving the impossible?
00:19:56
Viktor
yeah
00:20:01
Viktor
Zero. Zero.
00:20:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Zero.
00:20:04
Eshan
Less than zero under the ground.
00:20:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay. Less than zero.
00:20:07
Louie Easton
Do you know what?
00:20:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay.
00:20:07
Louie Easton
I will say this. I think there's more chance of Arsenal bottling second place. In fact, there's actually quite a good chance because if you look, City have won their last three games.
00:20:13
Viktor
Yeah.
00:20:16
Louie Easton
Arsenal have won two of their last five. um So it's City could actually catch them.
00:20:24
Viktor
Yeah, 100%. I mean, if you look at their schedule, they have Bournemouth, which is solid. that You have Liverpool, you have Newcastle. That's going to be a game that's gonna going to be huge for Newcastle.
00:20:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:20:31
Louie Easton
That's going to be a game.
00:20:33
Viktor
yeah And then Southampton last game. Okay. Yeah, I mean, they'll they'll get Champions League, but the second place, yeah, after dropping two points today, it's going to be tricky, especially if they make it to the final.
00:20:45
Viktor
Because if you make it to the Champions League final, then you you have to combine your teams every every round. So that's going to be their...
00:20:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Absolutely.
00:20:52
Louie Easton
And City have Wolves next, who have lost four of their last five. So, um yeah.
00:20:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Although they're getting better, they did defeat Man United.
00:20:59
Louie Easton
Oh, no, no, no,

FA Cup Semifinals Preview

00:21:00
Louie Easton
no. I was looking at the wrong thing. No, Wolves have won their last five. Never mind.
00:21:02
Eshan
Yeah.
00:21:03
Viktor
Yeah.
00:21:03
Louie Easton
it
00:21:03
Eshan
OK.
00:21:04
Louie Easton
Very opposite.
00:21:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
I was like, what?
00:21:05
Louie Easton
Yeah, no, I was looking at the wrong team. and they say I was thinking, hold on, I swear Wolves were doing very well. No, that would be a good game, actually.
00:21:10
Viktor
But no, Wolf's...
00:21:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:21:11
Louie Easton
City versus Wolves, two of the most informed teams at the moment. and
00:21:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Absolutely. Ishan, I would just like to ask you a little bit of a trivia question.
00:21:20
Eshan
okay
00:21:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah You might already know the answer because I was just advertising it like crazy in our private chat. ah thoses Like this season that we've got right now and this is the season before that, they've got one thing in common.
00:21:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
That at the end of the season, one team in particular could be the one to actually hand the trophy to the upcoming champions.
00:21:40
Viktor
Yeah.
00:21:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Last season, they handed that to Manchester City. And this season, they are on the way to handing it to Liverpool. Ishan, what team on on what on earth am I talking about? What team am I talking about?
00:21:53
Eshan
all the team that I hope doesn't win the Europa League this season is Tottenham Hotspur.
00:21:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Which is Tottenham Hotspur.
00:21:57
Louie Easton
Yeah. ah
00:21:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding.
00:22:00
Louie Easton
a
00:22:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Absolutely correct answer. And to be honest, like, that is such an irony of like the of the fate, you know, that Tottenham, they are super close to greatness, but the only way how they can be close to greatness is by giving the title to the upcoming champions.
00:22:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Last season to Man City, this season to Liverpool. But they're doing it out of spite to Arsenal. So I guess there is some North London Derby consistency, isn't there?
00:22:21
Louie Easton
yeah
00:22:24
Louie Easton
yeah
00:22:24
Viktor
At least they're going to see the trophy up close.
00:22:25
Louie Easton
It will... Yeah.
00:22:27
Viktor
It's going to be there for them.
00:22:28
Eshan
Thank you.
00:22:29
Viktor
it's goingnna be there for them
00:22:30
Louie Easton
Yeah, it will be like Scotland losing to France and the Six Nations to hand the to France over England. So it would be a bit of so it will be a little bit of a softener for them.
00:22:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Absolutely.
00:22:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, but other is there going to be another drama on Twitter, or like now ex-formally Twitter, about Ange Postacoglu doing everything he can to ah like like to lose that game against Liverpool?
00:22:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Are we just going to have replay?
00:22:56
Louie Easton
No. Listen, and this is why I hate Twitter. It's just full of awful, awful people who just make conspiracies out of nothing.
00:23:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
But it wasn't just Twitter though.
00:23:04
Louie Easton
Ange... Okay, but even so, um it's Twitter people who do that sort of thing. Because Ange will... Ange... He will never, ever try and lose a game.
00:23:15
Louie Easton
And if you're a Premier League footballer and you're trying to lose a game, then you're in the wrong job and you don't belong in the Premier League.
00:23:16
Eshan
Mm-hmm.
00:23:23
Louie Easton
You have to go for everything. And Spurs, although they can't be relegated now, i think, I mean, it it would be one some sort of miracle if they could, but I don't think it's possible for them to be relegated.
00:23:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:23:35
Louie Easton
they still want to win every game. And these players still want to get their win bonuses as well, because that's in their contracts. It's all part of the incentive of them to win these matches.
00:23:46
Louie Easton
um And I know that their minds are probably on the Europa League. i mean, They've got a ticket to the final, basically, because they're, I mean, I know it's Spurs, but they really should be beating Bodo Glimt in the semifinal, or whoever it is they're playing.
00:24:04
Louie Easton
But it's it's an opportunity for them to perform in a match that the world will be watching. This is the match that could live win Liverpool the league, and they will want to make an impression.
00:24:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Absolutely. ah Victor, what what are your thoughts there? Because unfortunately, like

Race for European Spots and Predictions

00:24:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
there is some sort of tribalism thing going on, not only between Tottenham and Arsenal, just overall.
00:24:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
that The fact that that the well-being of your team is not as important as the honour in this Tottenham-Arsenal rivalry.
00:24:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
like What do you make of it? like Will Anja Postacogl survive that?
00:24:40
Viktor
there is he's He's not going to bench his like he's good players, his best players, because there's ah huge gap. You also want to keep your players fit and as sharp as they can be. So I think he's going to get a really good lineup against Liverpool. it's not gonna be I still think Liverpool is going to win it with a lot of scored goals. at least They're going to score at least three goals, but Tottenham will play their strongest team.
00:25:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
um so Ishan, your thoughts?
00:25:03
Eshan
Yeah, at that was... I think back to the City game last year, i think that was the beginning of the end for Ange because I think he just saw how...
00:25:15
Eshan
deep the media circus goes and how like he was at getting asked that question the whole week leading up to it and then he'd hear Spurs fans actually echo sentiments um saying that we all we want to lose the city like we want like which I think for any top manager any top player is like an abhorrent sickening thought to like purposely lose a game
00:25:32
Louie Easton
hate that.
00:25:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:25:39
Eshan
um
00:25:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:25:41
Louie Easton
And when they were losing, weren't they chanting as well?
00:25:41
Viktor
That sun mist.
00:25:44
Viktor
That sun mist is going to haunt me forever. That was for a lot of money for me.
00:25:44
Eshan
yeah
00:25:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes. Yeah. Oh, yo, yo.
00:25:48
Eshan
the
00:25:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, yeah.
00:25:49
Viktor
That was for a lot of money for me.
00:25:50
Louie Easton
I mean, I'll be in.
00:25:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. I commented on that game.
00:25:52
Louie Easton
I'll be it.
00:25:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
I remember. That was just so awful.
00:25:54
Viktor
Ah...
00:25:55
Louie Easton
that was That was quite the match.
00:25:57
Eshan
I still can't believe it.
00:25:57
Louie Easton
I'll be really interested to see if Brennan Johnson and Dominic Solanke start because they didn't start in the last game. and And um I mean, I would just be really interested to see if Matthijs Tell plays well because we all know his capabilities and In my opinion, he is the biggest underperformer in that Tottenham side at the moment because he hasn't done much at all this season.
00:26:18
Louie Easton
um And we all saw the quality that he had Bayern last season. He was one of the most promising youngsters in the world. So... It's kind of like, you know what you know when you really, really support a player, but they don't play for your team. I'm kind of like that with Matthijs Tell, because I really want to see him ah fulfill his potential in the same way that I want Ansu Fati to fulfill his potential. It's just you can see the vision, but it's not quite happening at the moment. and
00:26:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Absolutely. You know what?
00:26:47
Viktor
It's never going to happen for Ansu Fati.
00:26:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's just...
00:26:49
Viktor
Sorry to disappoint you.
00:26:50
Louie Easton
i know, I know. He started last night, so there's a little bit of hope there.
00:26:51
Viktor
There's something off with him.
00:26:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, let's let's move on. Let's move on from the discussion about the title race because I'm pretty sure there's nothing else like left to to say.
00:26:58
Louie Easton
Why?
00:26:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because, Louis, you said it yourself. Liverpool are the champions 20th time. Yay!
00:27:04
Eshan
Thank you.
00:27:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
but You've already said it.
00:27:05
Louie Easton
Thank you. Okay, now we... Okay, thank you. Now we can move on.
00:27:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay. All right. Let's move on to something which is far more interesting because a lot of things could change in that race, which is the race for Europe, ladies and gentlemen. And here, ah the only teams which are assured of European football...
00:27:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
That are Liverpool and Newcastle. Liverpool, because they cannot now finish any lower than third.
00:27:28
Louie Easton
Oh yeah!
00:27:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
And Newcastle, because they've already won the Garakopal Cup final, which ah which secures for them ah either Champions League or Europa League at at at the very least. So...
00:27:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah actually, that means that even Arsenal could get dropped ah out of any European football, like, based on what I can see here. Guys, what who do you think will clinch those last European spots at the end of the season?
00:27:54
Louie Easton
Oh my word, what a question.
00:27:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'll start with Victor.
00:27:56
Viktor
I can't see Forrest hanging into the top five at this point. They drop points when they shouldn't.
00:28:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:28:02
Viktor
ah I told you this months ago that Newcastle will eventually finish above Forrest, and I think that's still going to happen.
00:28:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:28:09
Viktor
But now, yeah, you have everyone pretty much in the race with nothing else to play. I mean, Aston Villa, okay, they have the FA Cup. Chelsea will throw everything on this top five. Newcastle, you have City with the FA Cup in this. Yeah, I don't see four.
00:28:24
Viktor
Four is going to finish sixth or seventh. And, yeah, I don't know who's going to finish fifth. I think City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle is going to be four. And then it's going to be either Chelsea or Aston Villa for Champions League.
00:28:36
Louie Easton
Oh...
00:28:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Before I move on to another question, too.
00:28:37
Viktor
Yeah. Yeah. Newcastle is too good to not be in top five. They're going to be above Chelsea, I think. So,

Podcast Conclusion and Farewell

00:28:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
OK, let's just, OK, before I move on to another question, like we'll still we're still we're still staying within the the race for Europe question.
00:28:44
Viktor
i don't know.
00:28:44
Louie Easton
Hmm.
00:28:48
Eshan
Thank you.
00:28:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
and Let me just ah read a little slight paragraph from the Premier League website about the FA Cup having an impact, because that is actually pretty interesting. So the remaining four sides in the FA Cup could all aid the quest for 10 teams reaching Europe.
00:29:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Forest, Man City and Villa are all in the race to qualify for the Champions League via their Premier League position. And if any of those clubs were to achieve that and win the FA Cup, their reward for the latter, a Europa League place, would be passed to the next highest team that have not already qualified for Europe.
00:29:14
Viktor
Thank you.
00:29:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Louis, what does that mean for this entire like for those entire permutations about like who's going to make it to Europe, who's going to make it to Champions League, Europa League, and so on?
00:29:31
Louie Easton
right it's very interesting because i mean chelsea aren't in it but they're they also have the conference lead to focus on newcastle don't have anything else to focus on at the moment so i think as you said victor i think they'll get it um I mean, the FA Cup this weekend is going to be so telling ah to what happens to the rest of the season, because I think whoever's out of that will fight tooth and nail for the rest of the season. and
00:30:02
Louie Easton
So it ah all lies on this weekend, basically.
00:30:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Absolutely.
00:30:08
Viktor
I mean, I think that this won't change much for the EFICA because you still have just, that's just one game. And then the final is May 17th. So there's so much time until that final. It's not like the Champions League that in the next 10 days, there's a huge game for Arsenal.
00:30:22
Viktor
of
00:30:23
Louie Easton
I don't know, because it because City are probably going to qualify in the top five.
00:30:24
Viktor
I don't know. Yeah.
00:30:28
Louie Easton
I mean, that's probably going to happen.
00:30:29
Viktor
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:30:30
Louie Easton
But Forest, it's 50-50, and they're playing each other this weekend. So i i disagree with you, Vix. I think whoever loses them...
00:30:38
Viktor
but I'm talking about Champions League. not and I'm not talking just Europe. I'm just talking about strictly Champions League. I don't think...
00:30:44
Louie Easton
Strictly champion.
00:30:44
Viktor
Yeah.
00:30:45
Louie Easton
I suppose, yeah, I suppose.
00:30:45
Viktor
But for Europe, yeah. Okay, for Europe, yeah, you have a case. But for Champions League, I don't think it's going to change much.
00:30:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
you just
00:30:51
Louie Easton
It's such a good race.
00:30:51
Viktor
If they have an extra game, yeah.
00:30:52
Eshan
So,
00:30:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Just on another note, just on another note, just the fact of Manchester City still having a fighting chance to qualify for the Champions League after such a horrible season is just beyond me.
00:30:54
Viktor
Yeah.
00:31:00
Louie Easton
Yeah.
00:31:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's absolutely beyond me.
00:31:02
Viktor
Yeah.
00:31:02
Louie Easton
Yeah.
00:31:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, Ishan, like, what do you make of it? Because if there was any, in any other given season of the Premier League, Man City would struggle to clinch the at least that fifth position that but like and according to old rules would mean that it wouldn't be the Champions League football, but it would be the Europa League football only.
00:31:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
So Ishan, what do you make of this?
00:31:23
Eshan
So I think this goes back to how competitive the league has been. The reason that Ipswich, Leicester, and Southampton are going down isn't just because they have ah like performed like worse than the rest.
00:31:37
Eshan
Every other team is like nearing 40 points, I'm pretty sure. are... West Ham's at 36 points and we have five games to go.
00:31:43
Viktor
Yeah.
00:31:45
Eshan
And that's the next closest.
00:31:45
Louie Easton
Yeah.
00:31:46
Eshan
And the 40 point mark is that was supposedly the the golden number, right?
00:31:48
Louie Easton
Wow.
00:31:51
Eshan
So seeing that we have five games to go and all these teams have that many points shows you how many teams have dropped points at the top. And that's the reason that City, Forest, Newcastle, Chelsea, and Villa are all still competing for Champions League.
00:32:07
Eshan
It's not just because we have the extra place.
00:32:08
Louie Easton
Yeah.
00:32:08
Eshan
It's that we've dropped so many points along the way.
00:32:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, you know what guys, i actually wanted to talk about FA Cup ah at the end. But actually, I think that like going back to f FA Cup, because like in between, I still wanted to talk a little bit about the relegation battle and the survival battle for for staying up in and in the league.
00:32:18
Louie Easton
Thank you.
00:32:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
But since we're already touching on FA Cup, let's just move it right here. And let's slightly discuss um the semifinal ties ah for this, like for like exactly like those ah semifinal ties for FA Cup.
00:32:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
and Out of those four teams, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and Manchester City, which one of those clubs ah cannot afford to drop out of the race for the FA Cup?
00:32:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Like looking at Europe. Mm-hmm.
00:32:56
Louie Easton
Any of them, really.
00:32:57
Viktor
and All of them.
00:32:57
Louie Easton
and well or if you're If you're talking about just Europe, then then I suppose you could say Villa. But I think all of them will really... well I mean, this is such a huge opportunity for all four of these.
00:33:10
Louie Easton
The fact Palace are playing at Wembley again in the FA Cup. Something that they haven't done since 2016, I think, when Lingard scored in the final in extra time against them.
00:33:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think
00:33:21
Louie Easton
um And I just remember, because I live in South London, and... Driving down the streets, you'd see Crystal Palace flags on people's windows and all of this. This a huge, huge deal. The FA Cup is the oldest football cup competition in the world.
00:33:35
Louie Easton
People underestimate the importance of this trophy. Maybe it doesn't give you as much money as winning the Premier League or the Champions League, but the novelty of it is still there and will always, always be there.
00:33:47
Eshan
I don't Yeah.
00:33:49
Louie Easton
and but people forget that this used to be like the only live televised match ah in the 90s even uh going back in the calendar you'd get match of the day sure but this it it being at wembley in front of 90 000 half of that stadium is bigger than crystal palace's stadium by some distance
00:34:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah. yeah
00:34:11
Louie Easton
um So the opportunity of it is absolutely huge. And it's such an interesting one this year because we expect the only team we expect to be this far are Manchester City.
00:34:24
Louie Easton
But Villa have a really, really good chance. They've played some astonishing football recently.
00:34:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:34:29
Louie Easton
um Palace, I mean, had an awful, awful start to the season, but have somehow turned it around this year, maybe gone off the boil a little bit recently. um And then you've got Forest.
00:34:42
Louie Easton
Imagine Forest win a trophy this season. They deserve it.
00:34:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:34:47
Louie Easton
i think if there's I think if there's any...
00:34:48
Viktor
It can be any of these four at this point.
00:34:49
Louie Easton
i I know, but if you're I think if you're looking at any of these teams to win a trophy this season, you're looking at Forest and thinking they probably deserve it more than anyone else for the performances they've put in and the way they have turned things around from being a relegation contender last season.
00:34:58
Eshan
Mm-hmm.
00:35:06
Louie Easton
It's amazing. And I'm so, so excited. I mean, it's the second most thing I'm excited for this weekend for sure. Yeah.
00:35:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, to be honest, I kind of stand corrected from like from what I would say earlier about Nottingham Forest, because I remember i was it was actually the very first episode that I made here for here for Daily English Premier League.
00:35:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
It was along Mikey and Ishan, by the way. I don't know, Ishan, whether you remember it.
00:35:29
Eshan
Of course I remember that.
00:35:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
And the question was, I think from Mikey, whether Nottingham Forest is a Champions League team caliber. And I said that absolutely, because it looked at that point as if they were just really secure that at least top four spots.
00:35:41
Louie Easton
I think...
00:35:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
And Ishan, you said, beg to disagree. and They're just going to suffer from shortage of of squad, shortness shortage of freshness. And lo and behold, you know what?
00:35:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
The pundit doesn't think, the pundit just knows. So Ishan, I stand corrected.
00:35:57
Louie Easton
yeah give give Give them some credit, though.
00:36:00
Viktor
My money is on Aston Villa.
00:36:01
Eshan
No, well, I mean, I think I said that with the caveat of they they're an amazing squad, you know?
00:36:03
Louie Easton
That's a good shout.
00:36:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, yeah, yeah, of course, of course.
00:36:07
Eshan
but Yeah, yeah.
00:36:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm not saying that they're a bad squad. I'm just saying that you were right in saying that ah North Forest would lack freshness at the end of the season and then they would actually struggle for for a decent place in the league.
00:36:15
Eshan
Well, it happens to every team. like we we think We talk about
00:36:18
Viktor
Are you guys ready for this? Game week 38. Nothing in Forest, Chelsea.
00:36:25
Louie Easton
That would be good.
00:36:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:36:26
Louie Easton
That would be so.
00:36:26
Viktor
I just realized that.
00:36:27
Louie Easton
The thing is, if you look at Forest's schedule for the rest of the season in the Premier League, Brentford at home, Palace away, Leicester at home, West Ham away, Chelsea at home.
00:36:27
Viktor
That's going to be the game.
00:36:32
Viktor
Yeah, they have a good schedule.
00:36:37
Louie Easton
They can definitely qualify for the Champions League.
00:36:37
Viktor
Yeah.
00:36:40
Louie Easton
And I think it's absolutely ridiculous that we're disrespecting them this much, considering the performances they, I mean, they're one of the only two teams to beat Liverpool this season.
00:36:40
Viktor
Yeah.
00:36:43
Eshan
Uh-huh.
00:36:48
Louie Easton
Let's not forget that. And it was at Anfield.
00:36:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank
00:36:51
Louie Easton
And this is the same team. It's the same team that did that. So I i don't want to hear any.
00:36:54
Viktor
That's going to be the saddest part if they don't do it and they beat Liverpool.
00:36:57
Louie Easton
Yeah.
00:37:00
Viktor
Yeah.
00:37:02
Louie Easton
I'm really rooting for Forrest. I think they're a historically um successful team that belong to be at this level.
00:37:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
who Actually, ah the the like to just you know let's just but suppose that Nottingham Forest win the FA Cup. That means that um if they were to stay in within the top five in the Premier League and won the FA Cup, that means that the Europa League spot from clinching the FA Cup title would go to the next highest ranked Premier League club.
00:37:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
which is which was not secured, um like which did not secure the European football after this season. So looking at the stance of it now, I think it would be, if I see it correctly, would be Fulham, right?
00:37:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because we still have that but another place ah in European football after the Carabao Cup final. Newcastle, they currently sit fifth. So Bournemouth and Fulham will also be granted European football.
00:38:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think that's how it works, right?
00:38:05
Viktor
But then you're gonna have one other team. So it's... Yeah, it's probably gonna be number seven.
00:38:09
Eshan
So I think it's, so I did Monday.
00:38:11
Viktor
It's gonna be number seven.
00:38:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Even seventh.
00:38:13
Viktor
Number seven will be the next one.
00:38:15
Eshan
on monday
00:38:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because place seventh is granted the conference qualification.
00:38:15
Viktor
Because they already have sticks.
00:38:20
Viktor
So they'll go above.
00:38:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
So Aston Villa...
00:38:20
Louie Easton
I thought, is there not change this season? I thought, well, oh no, yeah, you're right. um Sixth gets Europa League, seventh gets Conference League, but also it's reserved for, ah six seventh is also reserved for the Europa League spot, assuming someone who has already qualified for Europe, ah as long as it's not the Conference League, gets in that spot.
00:38:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes.
00:38:39
Viktor
Yeah.
00:38:42
Louie Easton
So, um I mean, if Crystal Palace were to win the FA Cup, then it would go to, as it stands, Aston Villa.
00:38:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Absolutely, absolutely. So a lot of, I guess, Bournemouth and Fulham, they will be rooting for anyone from top five, actually, up top five, top seven, winning the FA Cup, because then that would allow them for for European football next season.
00:39:03
Louie Easton
well
00:39:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, you know what? Since we we're slightly running out of time, I'm sorry, but I'm just going to have to shut this discussion down. Let's move on to our last ad of this episode, which is Zencaster. And then and we will go back to perturbation time, prediction time, but this time about the very bottom of the league table.
00:39:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you, Syncaster, for allowing us to ah record our podcast here ah yeah're like using your platform. You are listening to Daily English Premier League podcast provided to you by Global Sports Podcast Network.
00:40:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now, somebody would say that maybe there is no use in talking about the survival battle, about avoiding relegation, because two of those spots have already been decided.
00:40:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
But there are still some things to play for. For example, for the last Southampton, because they currently sit last... with eleven just 11 points. And what they play for, maybe it's not going to be super important, but it could be still some honor-saving battle because they're still trying to avoid the andvoy the unwanted record for the lowest ever points tally in a Premier League season.
00:40:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Derby County finished with 11 points in the season 2007-2008.
00:40:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah So the Saints only need one more point to better their total. and so that's what So this is what Southampton play for. and As far as Leicester, their relegation was confirmed on Sunday, April the 20th, when they lost to Liverpool.
00:41:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
And that actually confirmed their place as the second relegated team. What about Ipswich? What about... Because Ishan, I think you already said there that Ipswich, they basically are are confirmed as the the third relegated team.
00:41:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah But maybe there is some chance for them still.
00:41:17
Eshan
um Unfortunately, no. i just ah i don't think there's any discussion because five matches to 15 points down.
00:41:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
No?
00:41:26
Eshan
So it's like pretty much the same situation as Arsenal, where it's just gold difference in prayers. Yeah.
00:41:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
They can only match West Ham and Point.
00:41:33
Louie Easton
I appreciate you trying to make this... I appreciate you trying to make this a little bit interesting, but it's not working, I'm afraid.
00:41:36
Viktor
Thank you.
00:41:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
you
00:41:38
Eshan
They need 20 gold swing, which is, ooh.
00:41:40
Louie Easton
I think the most exciting...
00:41:40
Eshan
they'd need twenty gold ah swing which is
00:41:44
Louie Easton
Yeah. Also, i think the most exciting thing to me looking at the bottom half of the table is the fact that Everton and Manchester United could finish below Wolves.
00:41:58
Louie Easton
The team that we were all expecting to get... Well, not all of us, but I was certainly expecting them to get relegated earlier this season. and But they're on the same points. 13th, 14th, and 15th, all on 38 points. The difference is Wolves have won their last five games.
00:42:11
Louie Easton
And who's to say that they're not going to do it again because they've got Leicester City next. United have got Bournemouth. Everton have got Chelsea. So Wolves could easily leapfrog United and Everton this weekend.
00:42:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
You are way too excited over this stuff, really.
00:42:26
Viktor
The battle for 13.
00:42:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
You do rare you do realize that this season was really like the like the worst a season in Man United history.
00:42:26
Louie Easton
Oh, I'm...
00:42:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
We're already down.
00:42:32
Louie Easton
Oh, but I want to...
00:42:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
What's the point of beating a dead horse?
00:42:35
Louie Easton
Beautiful. Absolutely sensational because I...
00:42:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Beautiful to beat a dead horse. Okay, great. Ladies and gentlemen, breaking news.
00:42:40
Louie Easton
Yeah, yeah. Beautiful for you to jump on the bandwagon 10 years ago and support them. And so quite frankly, I'm enjoying this downfall. And long may it continue. Build that circus and play in it.
00:42:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Ten years ago?
00:42:51
Louie Easton
You're playing like a team that belongs there at the moment.
00:42:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah come on, man. ah Yeah, that's true. We we like we hope for some like some changes in in the transfer window.
00:42:59
Louie Easton
Sorry, I just wanted to get that with my system.
00:43:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, yeah, I know, I know. And to be honest, ah let's just hope that next season will be better. But okay, no, let's not talk about Man United. We already secured ah survival in top flight. we're not so We're no longer under the threat of being relegated.
00:43:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
so
00:43:14
Viktor
Can be worse, Mikal. Can be worse.
00:43:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
like it well Yeah, I know that it can be worse, but I just do not want to get myself more depressed than already have to be as a Man United fan.
00:43:17
Eshan
all those viewers.
00:43:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
So West Ham United, but theyre they're remaining games, Brighton, then Tottenham, Manchester United away, then Nottingham Forest at home, and they finish with facing Ipswich Town away.
00:43:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
And at the same time, yeah, like Ipswich Town, facing Newcastle, Everton, Brentford, Leicester, and West Ham at the end of the entire season. ah So maybe, but okay, maybe I'll ask another question then. Is there a chance of West Ham's form going completely down the drain and just fighting for survival in the last fixture?
00:43:58
Louie Easton
ah just you know I just don't understand why they hired Graham Potter. that That made absolutely no sense to me because he's not a proven manager. He was good at Brighton, but that was a team that was tailor-made for him because Brighton is just a system.
00:44:15
Louie Easton
They are a moneyball team. They do their research and look at the managers who bring the style of play that suits their players. And I just think taking him out of Brighton kind of takes a fish out of water and...
00:44:27
Louie Easton
While they probably will survive, in fact, they're 99.999% sure they're going to survive.
00:44:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:44:35
Louie Easton
i just, I look at this West Ham team. I look at the quality of their players, which is amazing. just wonder why they're 17th. I'm worried about their next season because they need a manager who knows how to deal with these players and turn losses into results.
00:44:56
Louie Easton
So, and and we all we all saw what Fulcroog said after their draw with Southampton. He was furious. And I look at that team, know, Paquetard, Kudus, Bowen and Fulcroog as a front four.
00:45:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm. Hmm.
00:45:11
Louie Easton
And they're drawing with Southampton, the worst team as it stands in Premier League history alongside Derby County and the earliest ah team to be relegated by date in Premier League history.
00:45:26
Louie Easton
they're above this. Their team from back to front. I mean, we've we've seen how good Wan-Bissaka's been. Max Killman is a fantastic player in defence. Emerson, another fantastic player in defence.
00:45:38
Louie Easton
Why are they so bad? and They're the biggest disappointment by far in the Premier League this season.
00:45:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:45:43
Louie Easton
So maybe you could say Spurs or Leicester, but I just, I think this was going to be, if you remember before the season, everyone was predicting them to finish in a European spot. So, yeah, no, they they won't get relegated. I think we all know that. But I think they are a team that really needs open heart surgery this summer.
00:46:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Absolutely. And to be honest, such
00:46:06
Viktor
West Ham always has just small periods of playing great football and then it disappears.
00:46:10
Louie Easton
Yeah. Yeah.
00:46:11
Viktor
And every time I watch them, it's like they're not running enough.
00:46:12
Louie Easton
Mm-hmm.
00:46:15
Viktor
They're not pushing enough. They just sit back and just wait for something to happen. It just, yeah.
00:46:20
Louie Easton
Mm-hmm.
00:46:22
Viktor
And you can see to go like that against Southampton. So what do you expect?
00:46:26
Louie Easton
Yeah.
00:46:26
Viktor
Yeah.
00:46:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, they will have a chance of for rehabilitation as they take on Brighton and just one point will secure ah West Ham their survival and them performing at the top flight next season and will confirm the ah Tractor Boys as they are called, I hope, at least.
00:46:27
Eshan
Thank you.
00:46:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah and Actually, they'll confirm the relegation.
00:46:46
Louie Easton
Yeah.
00:46:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah So, what other games can we look forward to? So, of course, Liverpool-Tottenham, that could be the great coronation when Zadok the priest will be played at our podcast right afterwards, this time in full version in honour of Liverpool.
00:46:59
Louie Easton
Thank you.
00:47:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
We'll do that. Nottingham Forest taking on Brentford, Bournemouth taking on Manchester United, Wolverhampton taking on Leicester, Southampton taking on Fulham, Newcastle versus Ipswich, Brighton versus West Ham and Chelsea taking on Everton.
00:47:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Apart from Liverpool Tottenham, what other games can be actually exciting?
00:47:21
Viktor
I think Newcastle-Ipswich is going to have a lot of goals. I think Newcastle is going to concede against Ipswich. It's going to be like for two or something.
00:47:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, Ishan?
00:47:29
Eshan
i I was actually go to also going to say Newcastle-Ipswich because I think Chelsea and Villa are going to miss out on Champions League football.
00:47:30
Viktor
That's how I look at that.
00:47:37
Eshan
And I think the result that you could trace Villa this season back to is the 1-1 draw at home against Ipswich. Turning that into three points would make their run-in 100 times easier.
00:47:48
Eshan
And if Newcastle don't win this game, there's going to be a lot of question marks from the press of, oh, will they make top four? Will they make top five?
00:48:00
Eshan
that It needs to be a win. It that it can be nothing else aside from like a solid win.
00:48:02
Viktor
Yeah. Nah.
00:48:04
Louie Easton
Mm-hmm.
00:48:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay. Louis, what kind of game are you looking most forward to and why is it Liverpool-Tottenham?
00:48:12
Viktor
i
00:48:12
Louie Easton
Well, as i've as I've mentioned earlier, the FA Cup semifinals will be amazing.
00:48:16
Louie Easton
Liverpool-Tottenham, obviously, one point for Liverpool wins them the league and we'll look back on this season as one of the biggest underdogs before a ball was kicked.
00:48:28
Louie Easton
No one was predicting us to finish even second and we've won the league. i Say what you want about injuries, say what you want about a transitional period for Manchester City, but... Liverpool were still always there.
00:48:41
Louie Easton
Liverpool were still always challenging. And the fact we've only lost two games up to this point, unbelievable. um But if you want me to put that aside, then I think Chelsea Everton will be quite an interesting one. Everton obviously playing a lot better under David Moyes. Chelsea still a little bit inconsistent at points.
00:48:58
Louie Easton
It's the early kickoff.
00:48:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
And there you
00:48:59
Louie Easton
Anything can happen. And it's quite a difficult one to predict. So if you're looking for a... game that you're not quite sure what's going to happen, Chelsea Everton is the one to look at.
00:49:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
and there you go
00:49:09
Viktor
This is the game well where Palmer is going to wake up. Mark my words.
00:49:14
Louie Easton
Oh, that would be...
00:49:15
Eshan
Oh my god.
00:49:15
Viktor
Yeah.
00:49:15
Louie Easton
i'd like I'd like to see him just wake up just because it makes me excited for next year's World Cup.
00:49:20
Eshan
Yeah. I mean, if you remember last season, this this um Chelsea versus Everton is game that Palmer scored four and So maybe memories of last year.
00:49:28
Louie Easton
Oh my gosh, yeah. There we go. There we go. Is Sean coming in clutch with the excitement there? it
00:49:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Perfect, perfect. And to be honest, just to to finish off today's episode on a little cheeky comment. I wonder when the ah English football higher-ups will do something about playing the yeah FA Cup semifinals and Premier League ah fixtures at the same day.
00:49:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think it's ridiculous. Why on earth should we divide our attention on a game of Liverpool-Tottenham, which is important equally important to the f FA Cup semifinal?
00:49:54
Louie Easton
There's...
00:50:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
I will never understand it. Normally would be divided. what what What can I say? I'm just a poor Polish boy who knows nothing about English football, apparently.
00:50:07
Louie Easton
Yeah.
00:50:08
Viktor
The schedule is too tight.
00:50:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:50:10
Viktor
That's the big issue.
00:50:10
Eshan
Schedule is too tight.
00:50:10
Louie Easton
Yeah.
00:50:11
Viktor
that The schedule is too tight.
00:50:12
Louie Easton
And also, i get that. But also, didn't they put Newcastle versus Aston Villa on a Saturday after they both played midweek when they could have just put it on a Sunday?
00:50:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:50:21
Louie Easton
So, you know, it's not all just about the schedule being too tight. It's also just poor organization overall.
00:50:26
Eshan
Yes, exactly.
00:50:26
Louie Easton
But there we go. That's another topic for another day.
00:50:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's another topic for another day, which could be a great topic for another podcast. But until then, thank you guys so, so much for and reviewing the Arsenal-Crystal Palace game, for predicting what's going to happen in Premier League.
00:50:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Louis Eastern of Liverpool, a very happy man, and he's going to be super, super happy probably come this Sunday.
00:50:46
Louie Easton
Yeah.
00:50:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you so much for joining us.
00:50:50
Louie Easton
ah No problem at all, mate. I'll be there on Sunday to record the Monday review as well once we've won the league.
00:50:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Of course. like i like why Why should I be expecting anything else? Victor from Chicago. Ishan from l LA. Thank you guys very, very much for joining us. Thank you. So, just like that, thank you for listening. And, well, we'll see you and hear you in the next time. Until then, take care. Bye-bye, guys.
