Introduction and Adjusting to 'Soccer'

00:00:00
Iain
Soccer.
00:00:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Welcome to the Daily Newcastle podcast. I am still not used to I didn't rove. It's just, I don't know what it is. It's going to take me a while. I think it's, it's the word of, it's word soccer, right? We've got lots of nice, lovely.
00:00:25
Iain
locker
00:00:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes, exactly. American listeners who we love. But as an Englishman, it's just really strange to get used to.

Ian McKay's Arrival and Anecdotes

00:00:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Anyway, Daly, Newcastle. I'm joined by Ian McKay, who put on a great American accent there. Soccer!
00:00:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Are you okay, Ian? It's been ages since we've been on together.
00:00:39
Iain
um
00:00:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
How are you doing?
00:00:41
Iain
I'm good. I know, I know. was going to say, I used to know a fella that looked a bit like you. I did a podcast with him a couple of years ago. Kev, he was called.
00:00:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:00:50
Iain
No, how are you, mate?
00:00:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Handsome lad. Handsome lad.
00:00:52
Iain
First one of the season for us together.
00:00:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm all right.
00:00:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Is it really? Oh, my God.
00:00:57
Iain
Yeah. Yeah.
00:00:57
Jo
Is That's scary.
00:00:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
you can You can tell its life's been a bit hectic. But anyway, I am delighted to have Ian and I'm also delighted to have Joe. Joe, we've done a couple together so you you haven't forgot us yet, have you?
00:01:07
Jo
We'll have. No, I mean, how can we forget that face anyway, Kev, to be fair? But yeah, always a pleasure, obviously.
00:01:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right, well, what wasn't
00:01:16
Iain
so it's ah It's either the face that ah only a mother could love, or I heard somebody say, Kev's got a face that you just can't help punching.
00:01:26
Iain
And once you've started, you can't stop.
00:01:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
That was Nicola.
00:01:29
Jo
It's like Pringles.
00:01:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Nicola said that, yeah.
00:01:32
Iain
That was Nicola, yeah.
00:01:33
Jo
Ironically, was a Pringle herself, so yeah.
00:01:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Nicola said about the one punching. And I think think my mother does still love us, so I think right on both, if I'm honest, Ian.
00:01:40
Iain
Here we go.
00:01:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
and
00:01:41
Iain
100% accuracy, that's what you get from me. No entertainment, just accuracy.
00:01:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Just accuracy.
00:01:45
Jo
Just straight up fact.
00:01:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Just plain boring accuracy.

Podcast Structure and Game Review

00:01:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Anyway... Speaking of boring, Leeds v Newcastle, we're kind of going to review it in the first part. Second part, we're going to talk about our new £69 million signing.
00:02:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh my God, what a baller he looks.
00:02:02
Jo
Thank you.
00:02:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then in part three, we're going to talk about the deadline day because there's loads of stuff which could possibly happen. So let's start with Newcastle

Leeds vs. Newcastle Analysis

00:02:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
v Leeds. I'm going to come to each of you and I think the best way to do this one, a little bit different style-wise, is just to go through...
00:02:13
Iain
Thank you.
00:02:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
one or two things we want to mention and take away from that game it could be anything to do with performance tactics lineups individuals anything you want just one or two takeaways we might have a little discussion about it if any of us disagree but we probably won't on this one so one or two takeaways me and ian as i say it all the time are absolute gentlemen so we'll go to joe first ladies first what are your two takeaways from that joe
00:02:33
Jo
good
00:02:43
Jo
Two um well I said it from the start That when the line up came out um It did look bit weird because Sky Sports Put it out almost as if we were going to play the 4-3-3 With those people and I thought
00:02:53
Iain
Thank you.
00:02:53
Jo
That doesn't look right.
00:02:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
and
00:02:55
Jo
Lo and behold, it wasn't 4-3-3. And I don't know that that got me straight away because i just thought it was a bit of a weird tactic to play against Leeds because I think Leeds should have been a one that we just absolutely went at and it just seemed a bit too defensively minded.
00:03:07
Jo
I know you've got the wing backs going forward and stuff, but just in general, I didn't like it from the start. So the formation kind of threw me, but he did change it throughout the match. So that's fair enough.
00:03:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:03:16
Jo
But it was just so lackluster wasn't that game. Like, um... I don't know. um It's hard to take positives, but the only positive is going to lose. Kind of clutching at straws.
00:03:28
Jo
But it's just the kind of shift or the difference between the Liverpool match and that. And I know everyone will be like, oh everyone's up for the match. I get that. But it shouldn't be such a kind of downgrade from one match to the next sort of thing. And again, I know people say, look, Joe, there was multiple Serbs, etc, etc. But yeah.
00:03:44
Jo
My take, my main take was the fact that we played the wrong formation from the start. Everyone just, everyone seemed out of sorts. And I don't know whether it was down to that or other factors involved. I don't know.
00:03:55
Jo
But everyone just did not seem right that day, did it?
00:03:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm. do you agree with them kind of takeaways what you want to add?
00:04:00
Iain
i am i I was surprised three at the three centre-halves, definitely. And I'm not sure Leeds was... Well, my knee-jerk reaction, Leeds wasn't the right game for that. But we're away from home at Leeds.
00:04:15
Iain
The last time Leeds, now because of the international break, when Leeds next play at home, they will be unbeaten at home for more than 12 months. So given that we have played really well and got one point out at the first two games, I don't blame Al for being safety first and making sure that we get something out of this game.
00:04:36
Iain
I think he's let down by the individual performances of the people that he picked though. I don't think, think Ramsey did quite well. I thought Murphy was a little bit... I know he had the two shots, but he didn't do a lot more than that.
00:04:50
Iain
Bruno was awful.
00:04:52
Jo
yep
00:04:53
Iain
You couldn't have guessed how bad Bruno was going to be. And you take out Gordon and Joe Linton from that as well. It's it's a stuttering performance, isn't it? And like you say, Joe, you know we take the point from it and we move on.
00:05:07
Iain
I think we've got two home games to come after the international break, so hopefully we can correct our points tally quickly.

International Break: Benefit or Burden?

00:05:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think with the form i think the formation to me, wasn't it? I think i was I was surprised, but I wasn't...
00:05:20
Iain
Thank
00:05:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't know if it was the wrong decision because Botman had a great first half and he either had a great first half because we were so out of sorts and letting them attack and giving them opportunities to come forward or Botman had a great first half because the formation was actually set up perfectly, kind of,
00:05:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
withstand the early pressure. I think we grew into the game. I think by the time half-time came, and we were the better team and we probably didn't want half-time out of the two, but I think early on Leeds were the better team.
00:05:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
and I think what is interesting is Dan Byrne went back to left-back at the start of a second half. Not many people have mentioned this really, but Byrne was actually left-back and Tino went up as a winger. and So he did go back to 4-3-3 earlier than what some people thought. People thought the changing point was kind of a 60-minute mark or when Miley came on.
00:06:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
um but Well, that what what was half-time, but when... can't remember who was who came on, but we thought it was about the Elmar, but actually, we went a four the back at half, just to start the second half. So, think in terms of the right decision, it's impossible to tell.
00:06:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think, like Ian said, I was going to mention it, Leeds' home record, I know, to the championship, most of it, but it's insanely good. So, we're obviously a very good team at home, and I think, personally, the only thing I would add is, and for Hal, I think with missing Gordon, and obviously, Izak, he...
00:06:29
Iain
Thank you.
00:06:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
wanted to make sure we were still in the game come the end of it and then hopefully kind of have more energy and more legs and more fitness to blow them away or have a little bit more off bench. and But I think it's pretty obvious he obviously doesn't fully trust Asula setting up that way for his first start.
00:06:48
Jo
Yeah.
00:06:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Asula's first start, he's went five at the back to pretty much say, I don't know if I trust you that much. and i think Gordon was a big miss as well. So I think what we're going to kind of do really is just before we go to the end of part one is and We are on, unfortunately, only on two points after our first three games.
00:07:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
m International break, earliest one ever. My question is, has it come at the right time or a bad time? I'm undecided. I think in terms of Joe Linton's injury, maybe it is the right time, but I would be desperate to play next week with a new signing Wolves at home without this blooming international break.

Injury Recovery and Fitness

00:07:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Ian, has it come at the right time do you think it might derail us even more?
00:07:30
Iain
I think it's like it's come at the right time. Tenali will be properly fit. Joe Linton hopefully will be back.
00:07:34
Jo
yeah
00:07:36
Iain
and I don't know if Nick ftimema is going to be away with Germany or not.
00:07:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's been selected for Germany, yeah.
00:07:44
Jo
yeah
00:07:45
Iain
If he's away with Germany, then it's going to make no difference at all. um I was hoping he would be not selected for Germany or they he'd be still under 21. He's 23 though, isn't he?
00:07:57
Iain
I don't know how he played for the under 21s.
00:07:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, he's German first team.
00:07:58
Iain
There you go. um yes So it probably doesn't make any difference. Either way, he's not going to have done very much training with his new first team mates.
00:08:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:08:11
Jo
Yeah.
00:08:11
Iain
um But if he goes away ah to play for Germany and scores a couple, then he'll come back even more confident. So I don't know. I don't think it makes any odds.
00:08:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Just don't get injured.
00:08:22
Iain
I'd like to get Hall with another couple of couple of weeks training under his belt and Joe Linton fit again and Tonali properly recovered.
00:08:24
Jo
Well, there is that. Can you imagine?
00:08:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's a big one. Big miss, Joel.
00:08:35
Iain
i think I think that helps.
00:08:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:08:37
Jo
Yeah.
00:08:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Joel, same.
00:08:39
Jo
Yeah, I mean, Eddie mentioned it as well, that he would have loved um Nick to have been around and not have to go straight away for his international duty.
00:08:40
Iain
Thank you.
00:08:47
Jo
But like we've just said, it's not a bad thing that we've got another international in our team as well, is it really? So as long as he comes back unscathed, and like you say it, Ian, if he comes back after us some level of a decent performance, if he's obviously played, I don't know what the line-up's going to be for Germany, um that's obviously going to benefit as well, because he's going to come back with some confidence, isn't he, really?
00:09:06
Jo
But... I think is overall, yeah, I'm happy that there's an international breaking away because I think we kind of need to take that time. I think there's been a lot happening in three games and it's been a bit of an emotional rollercoaster between the three games, hasn't it?
00:09:19
Jo
and Especially the first two because I wouldn't say that um the Leeds game was an emotional rollercoaster.
00:09:20
Iain
Thank you.
00:09:24
Jo
more of a we could have played forever and it still would have been nil-lil kind of game um because from both sides i'm not gonna lie i couldn't see anything happening from leeds side either in fact we had one more shot on target than leeds so that's how bad that game was but that's it was just one of those games wasn't it like it it was when you're watching you're just thinking may as well just blow the whistle now because it's it's ending nil-lil no matter what happens so yeah
00:09:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
no Woohoo!
00:09:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.

Transfer Talks: Nick Valtemada's Impact

00:09:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, was a tough watch, but I mean, look, I said on the Liverpool pod that We played very well and got nothing. I said there'll be games where we don't play well and get something. I know it's only a point, but we probably didn't play well enough to deserve anything, really, I think against another team or and another day.
00:09:58
Jo
yeah
00:10:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
But again, look, I think Liverpool emotionally probably took a lot out of us and there was probably a little bit of a hangover from from that. I know people will raise their hands and be like, whoa, you can't say they're tired or emotionally took out of them after day three or week three, but it will play a big part.
00:10:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Go on, Ian, before I go to break.
00:10:16
Iain
um It was a start i heard. and ah you know ah I thought it was quite a dull game. However, there's only ever been one previous Premier League match that had a lower expected goals total.
00:10:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
XG.
00:10:32
Iain
It was the second lowest XG of any Premier League game. And it looked like it, to be honest.
00:10:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:10:40
Iain
um It was dreadful, wasn't it?
00:10:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's still not the worst game of a weekend.
00:10:42
Iain
I mean, you know...
00:10:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Still not the worst game a weekend. The old firm was the worst game of the weekend.
00:10:45
Jo
It's not.
00:10:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
That was horrendous.
00:10:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
i'll I'll offend more celtic Celtic fans who absolutely came for me during the preseason.
00:10:50
Iain
um
00:10:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I can't wait to hear from them again. Yeah. Right, we're going to quickly go to our break. We're going to have our mini international

Izak's Transfer Dilemma

00:11:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
break with a message from buy on you
00:11:23
Iain
Thank you.
00:11:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Wonderful. Right. Leeds is out the way. Our first advert's out the way. Let's talk about Nick Valtemada, or should I say Fernando Berbercrouch, because when I've been watching him on YouTube, my God, he's a mix of Fernando Torres.
00:11:55
Jo
I know.
00:11:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's got the hair. He's got somehow he's got pace. He's got the Berbertov touch. And I mean, he's six foot six or whatever he is. So he's pretty much Peter Crouch as well, isn't he? So what a signing he is in three.
00:12:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
and I think, actually, me not being the most patriotic Englishman, I'll probably be watching more of Germany's games in this international break when I will England's, just because I can't wait to watch him play. and I'm very, very excited about him.
00:12:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
However, transfer deadline ends as people ah people tune into this and stream on pod Spotify and Apple Podcasts. The transfer window closes 7pm on Monday.
00:12:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, here's...
00:12:33
Iain
so Tonight, Kev, 7pm tonight.
00:12:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
so Tonight, tonight, like at 7pm tonight as people listen.
00:12:35
Jo
Night as you're listening, yeah.
00:12:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
God, I'll never get used to that. I'm so strange. m Anyway, could Valdemar to play with Izak is the question I want to ask, right? Because Izak has been this massive, goddamn horrendous story throughout pretty much the whole of this transfer window. It is going to come to an end tonight.
00:12:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Does he leave? Does he stay? if I mean, can he stay? I know Howes said he wants to reintegrate him and the owners have met with him, but I just think it's such a different story for fans.
00:13:04
Iain
Thank you.
00:13:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
But is Valtomar going to play with Isak? Is he going to play instead of Isak? Is Isak going to go? And then we'll talk about potentially getting one more in. But just for now, Isak, stay or Play with Valtomar?
00:13:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Or is Valtomar a replacement? Joe looks very undecided, so I'm going to come to Joe first. Come on, Joe.
00:13:27
Jo
Thanks.
00:13:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
What's your true thoughts? Get that emotional reaction.
00:13:29
Jo
Thanks. No.
00:13:33
Jo
no I don't want him to. I want him to go. I want him to get us to get one more in tomorrow and I want him to go. I'm done. I want Liverpool to come back in with at least 130. want Izac to go. I want us having another the strike. I want this whole thing over with. um I do appreciate there is a very, very slim chance that this might not happen and Izac really might stay.
00:13:52
Jo
However, i think it's going to be hard.
00:13:55
Iain
Thank you.
00:13:56
Jo
Very, very hard.
00:13:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Does the prospect of Izak staying excite you?
00:13:57
Jo
Integrating back in.
00:13:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Like, i've I've said my opinions on Izak right in terms of I'm disgusted with his behaviour because you should never refuse to play.
00:13:59
Jo
No. no
00:14:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
But, just imagine him and Walter Marder together.
00:14:05
Jo
No. I agree.
00:14:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Like, it's a handful. I mean, that...
00:14:09
Jo
I understand what you're saying.
00:14:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, I'm torn.
00:14:10
Jo
Do you think he's going to give his all? Ever? if he maybe If he has to play, because that's that's the situation, isn't it, Kev?
00:14:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, if he has to play, yeah.
00:14:17
Jo
he has If he has to play, he'll be in the most massive Hulk. Hulk? You know what I'm, sulk, that's what trying to say.
00:14:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Sulk. I'm there for you, Joe. Come on.
00:14:26
Jo
He'll be in a hulk of a sulk if he has to stay, and that's probably all was leaning on. But not realistically it is. He'll feel trapped, and the whole free Isaac thing will be all over the internet again, because that's obviously hilarious.
00:14:35
Iain
Okay.
00:14:38
Jo
and But yeah, like, no, come because he's not going to give his all for us. He'll then just be pushing and pushing and pushing through January where this whole saga will begin again. So I am absolutely not in the camp for Isaac staying in any format.
00:14:51
Jo
So please, God, let this all be over tomorrow, today.
00:14:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Ian, it will be over tomorrow. One way or the other, Joe, it will be over, right?
00:14:56
Jo
We'll be over tomorrow.
00:14:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Tonight, it will be over.
00:14:58
Jo
Good.
00:14:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
We just don't know exactly what's happening as we're recording.
00:14:59
Jo
Good. Roll on 7pm Monday.
00:15:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, Ian, are you excited at the prospect of Izak and Valtemar to play together? That's £120, £130 million pounds worth of striker talent up front together, all like me and Joe.
00:15:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think I'm probably in Joe's camp as well in terms of, like I want him gone. i think it's unforgivable to refuse to play for a club. Ian, are you feeling about Izak? Stay, go, what?
00:15:23
Iain
and I don't think he'd be playing alongside Valtemada.
00:15:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
right
00:15:27
Iain
Whether he goes or not, I think people are underestimating the
00:15:34
Iain
hurt feelings of the chairman and the owner, Jamie Rubin, flying in and going to his house to have a last, come on, mate, play for us.
00:15:43
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:15:48
Iain
We'll get you sorted next year, to be told. No, thanks. I'm not doing that. So, unless we have a second striker bought tomorrow and Liverpool come in and offer...
00:16:01
Iain
Liverpool can't come in and say, we offered you 110, we're happy to go to 120 with another five on top. I think Piff will hang on to him. I think they're of a mind to say, no, you've known what the conditions are.
00:16:16
Iain
And think I think they'll hang on to I don't think necessarily, if they can get the second striker in, I don't think they'll even play him.
00:16:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
oh
00:16:23
Iain
I'd love them to be picked... to be picked and go as a substitute, and not be brought on, every game between now and Christmas, and then sell him.
00:16:32
Jo
make them turn up for each game with no intention of blame
00:16:33
Iain
But, ah there I think, I know, but I think that, I think what he did is astounding.
00:16:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's crazy, isn't it?
00:16:39
Iain
I mean, you know, two fingers in the face of the owners who've made a special trip.
00:16:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
i agree. Yeah.
00:16:45
Jo
yep
00:16:46
Iain
It was, Isaac was the chairman's favourite player, and he's, even that personal appeal can't get him to relent for 12 or 15 games you'd have to play between now and Christmas.
00:17:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
I've
00:17:00
Iain
So i think um I think that we will get another striker in. But I think unlikely that Liverpool are going to offer enough for us to say, OK, that's fine. you've You've met all of the criteria.
00:17:13
Iain
And I think they will just hang on to him.
00:17:13
Jo
yeah
00:17:15
Iain
They'll just say, no, you haven't met it.
00:17:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
here
00:17:17
Iain
And he will just it'll just swing in the wind until they do.

Market Strategy and Financial Fair Play

00:17:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
See, I'd love that to be true as a fan because for me, right, Michael Owen gets loads of stick and and know there was kind of talk about did he refuse to play against Ville but he was on the bench or he said he was fit enough to be on the bench and but Michael Owen at least ran his contract down and honoured his contract and trained and didn't really refuse to play and Michael Owen gets loads of stick.
00:17:25
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:17:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
right You can argue rightly or wrongly so, Mike Lone gets loads of stick, but he never, ever, ever said, I've got...
00:17:47
Iain
And he did score a load of goals as well.
00:17:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
He did, he did, but he Mike Lone never, ever, ever said, and I always felt a little bit sorry for Mike Lone, to be fair, because I i know he gets loads of stick, but when you read his book and he says that Newcastle fans were, threatened well, not threatening, but abusing his family and his wife and his kids, and he was like, wow, I don't want to play for that team or try, so he just started collecting money, and all that stuff, right? But at least he honoured his contract.
00:18:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
What Isaac's done is so much worse.
00:18:13
Iain
Okay.
00:18:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I would love to see him rot and I'd love to see set the bench. But we've been saying on this pod, especially us three, the three OGs, right? We've been saying on this pod we're going need a big seal, whether it was Bruno or whether it was Gordon.
00:18:25
Jo
ah
00:18:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
This is our chance, surely, to free the shackles of... ah The financial fair play, the PSR as it is now, this is our opportunity to get 120. I know we want 150, but this is our opportunity to make that big seal. The player doesn't want to be here anyway.
00:18:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
If we let him rot, we're probably only going to get what?
00:18:42
Jo
Yeah.
00:18:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's say he he lasts the whole season. He doesn't go in January. are you going to get next year if he doesn't play or makes 10 appearances in a year? You might get, what, 60 million from him. You get your money back.
00:18:54
Iain
yeah You would.
00:18:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
This is our opportunity to cash in.
00:18:55
Iain
Kev. Kev, you still get your 120. And remember, the sums, the sums, the sums aren't done until the end of June, right?
00:19:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
You can't if he doesn't play for a year.
00:19:01
Jo
Oh, yeah, we wouldn't sell it for $60,000.
00:19:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
If he doesn't play for a year, you can't get 120 him.
00:19:09
Iain
So he can be here right the way through to the season. Then you've got a month to sell him. We want 150. Hey, you know, if you're offering 120, that's a 20% discount for somebody.
00:19:21
Iain
And do you think, Barcelona or Real Madrid or PSG or Bayern Munich, who are going to have Harry Kane, who's a year older, and Barcelona with Lewandowski on crutches, are going to worry about the fact that he's just been training but not playing at Newcastle for a year.
00:19:34
Jo
Yeah.
00:19:38
Iain
It's just like he had a a cruciate ligament injury. he He won't drop.
00:19:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:19:43
Iain
we'll get We can get, with a 20% discount from one of the European teams, what Liverpool are offering now. We'll take it.
00:19:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah We would definitely take it, but I think it's hard to get that money.
00:19:52
Iain
And then that would still work.
00:19:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's hard to get that money if he doesn't play for you. I think at the minute, the reason he's stocked so high, and we're talking about the hundreds of millions, is because he's got 20-odd goals last year and the year before that, he got 20-odd goals.
00:20:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
So that's about 40-something, 50 goals in the last two years. That's why you're demanding that money. I think if he doesn't play for a year, well, it's hard for the owners.
00:20:13
Iain
They'd still be...
00:20:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
You've got to set a precedent, but I don't know if anybody comes in with that type of money if he hasn't played for a year.
00:20:19
Iain
No.
00:20:20
Jo
May have been sitting doing nothing.
00:20:21
Iain
You'll still be banging it you so be banging the goals in for the under-21s, under-23s.
00:20:26
Jo
Oh God, yeah.
00:20:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Bay.
00:20:27
Iain
And Sweden, and Sweden.
00:20:28
Jo
Can you imagine?
00:20:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
You'll see him against Whitley Bay.
00:20:30
Jo
Well, yeah, look, he's still going to get games for Sweden, isn't he?
00:20:30
Iain
Yeah, get him down there. All
00:20:33
Jo
Because he's not going to get dropped. I think it's been pretty clear that people are talking about being a World Cup, yeah, and is he so stupid in a World Cup?
00:20:36
Iain
right.
00:20:39
Jo
Yeah. I reckon genuinely, right, if we did what Ian's just said, which I do think is a hilarious idea, by the way, um that he would still play for the World Cup.
00:20:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
I like the idea. business things.
00:20:47
Jo
But I reckon he'll still play in the World Cup. So I

Ad Break

00:20:49
Jo
think it means Jack Hall. Because I think the Swedish stance is that they're going to play him regardless and that they're actually on his side about it all.
00:20:53
Iain
Yeah. Good morning.
00:20:55
Jo
So, yeah, I don't think it's going to scut by that sort of chance.
00:20:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
What does that tell Jokeres and Ilanga?
00:20:58
Jo
However...
00:20:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's like, it doesn't matter if you play, lads. Izak's going to start anyway. i think I think you would get a bit of unrest in the sweed Swedish camp going into the World Cup.
00:21:04
Jo
Oh, you would, I get that.
00:21:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Jokeres would be like, well, played for Arsenal all season. why that Why on earth is he getting played in front of me? And Ilanga would be like, well, you're now putting Izak out wide to accommodate Jokeres. And I've been playing for Newcastle all season. Why am I getting... that would that would it would It would have knock-on effect. i think it's tough. It's impossible to really know what will happen. But...
00:21:22
Jo
It is.
00:21:22
Iain
Maybe Isaac can continue to sit on the bench for Sweden after to sitting on the bench for Newcastle all season.
00:21:27
Jo
you can sit on everyone's bench, yeah.
00:21:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'd like to see it. I'd like to see it. Right, anyway, we are going to talk we are going to talk about, and and in our part three, we are going to talk about ah potential income.
00:21:30
Iain
I don't know.
00:21:32
Jo
ah
00:21:32
Iain
but
00:21:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
And Eddie Howe has said, it's not breaking news, but I'll pretend it is. He has said, not directly to me because I'm not in the know, but he has said to everybody and that he wants at least one more player, right?
00:21:46
Iain
so
00:21:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
So there's two obvious players, most Newcastle fans, who are half kind of being following this, I'll know about. We're going talk about them in the next part. and to see which one will come in.
00:21:57
Iain
Thank you.
00:21:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
But before that, Joe's going to give us our very own Zencast advert.

Comparing Wieser and Izak's Situations

00:22:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Two players. Both didn't play at the weekend for their clubs. One, there's talk that he's refusing in terms of Johan Wiese. And the other one was because his head wasn't in the right place, apparently.
00:22:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Jorgen Strand-Larsen for Wolves, who, weirdly enough, two days before, three days before, scored two goals in two minutes. So I don't know whether he came up with that. But it's interesting to kind of follow this on.
00:22:48
Iain
Thank you.
00:22:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
The first bit want to touch on, because we've had this thrown at us Newcastle fans the whole summer. Well, if you won't forgive Isaac, why would you want Wiesa? Well, Wiesa's now done it, Isaac. He's downed tools. He's given a statement on social media. However, there's two main differences. I want to get your thoughts on this. I'm going to go first this time.
00:23:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
going to read out just a little bit of, I mean, Wiesa's statement is massive, by the way. It's a big, big statement. This isn't just like a Instagram snap. This is big. So I'm going to skip the kind of first 50 words and I'm just going to start at the most important part and the details given.
00:23:19
Iain
A fairer.
00:23:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
So Wiesa's statement says, earlier but summer i held auan discussions with the club senior management including key directors and the new headquar
00:23:24
Iain
kind
00:23:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
i made clear my intention to explore a new challenge During these conversations, it was confirmed to me and my representatives that the club would not stand in my way if a reasonable offer was received. This was also put in writing. and There's a difference already, isn't Based on this understanding, I sought to find a new club, keeping Brentford in form with full transparency at every step.
00:23:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
I received a formal offer from another Premier League club. I wonder who that is, bearing in mind the only ones in Newcastle. And communicated I wanted to join. i was under the impression from all my conversations with Brentford that there was a mutual agreement to part ways.
00:24:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yet, ah but as the window comes to an end, the club has now significantly changed its position, going against what was communicated and left me in a difficult and frustrating position.
00:24:13
Iain
Thank you.
00:24:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
It goes on more about promises, but I'm not going to bore everybody. You can find it on pretty much any social media platform WISA has. m Well, it's a bit different from me, Zach's statement, isn't it?
00:24:24
Jo
Very.
00:24:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
but there's lots of detail there Izak was very much the club have known for ages but I've said on a previous pod the club hadn't have known for ages because they wouldn't have done a shirt release with you and Tino Asprey in they wouldn't have let Callum Wilson go well done Callum by the way scoring for West Ham today but
00:24:25
Jo
Like, hugely different, yeah.
00:24:34
Jo
Yep.
00:24:39
Jo
Absolutely.
00:24:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
and The club wouldn't have made them decisions if they knew that you were going no matter what. There might have been a conversation about I would like to go, but there was definitely nothing confirmed. So how do I feel about Wieser now?
00:24:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Has changed your stance? I know when I spoke recently previously with Joe, Nicola and Michael, that we've kind of said, can we be hypocrites?
00:24:55
Jo
Okay.
00:24:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I kind of want to get Ian's thoughts with that statement before we look at Stran Larsson as well. So Ian, Wieser. Are you that bothered about the statement? Are you that bothered about him going on strike and us being hypocrites? Do you want him? Do you not want him? What's a crack? What's your opinion on Wissett, Ian?
00:25:14
Iain
I think Wisha would be a great addition and and Um, and I, I don't have any great moral high ground to stand on and preach.
00:25:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
agree.
00:25:22
Iain
To be honest, I want Newcastle to get a second, to get a second striker.
00:25:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Get him in.
00:25:27
Iain
You know, Liverpool aren't going to be running around with their tails between the legs apologising that E-Tax scored two more this weekend. That's why they're 12 points clear at the top, are they?
00:25:38
Iain
Um, and I think it's the same. I mean, you know, perhaps Wieser has got a stronger position to, uh,
00:25:46
Jo
Have we lost Ian?
00:25:46
Iain
I'm offline.
00:25:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
have we lost Ian let's see if Ian comes back Joe yeah we oh hang on he's back carry on Ian
00:25:47
Iain
Don't know what's happened there, kids. What's happened?
00:25:51
Jo
Shall I say what I feel? You know, he's going to come right in the middle of my speech, isn't he?
00:25:55
Iain
I'm back. I'm back.
00:25:55
Jo
No, we've lost Ian.
00:25:56
Iain
I'm back, I think.
00:25:56
Jo
And he's back.
00:25:57
Iain
I'm back. Yeah, I am back.
00:26:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
What you think about Wiesa?
00:26:01
Jo
we lost We lost you perhaps, Ian.
00:26:01
Iain
Yes. so So I so um i think Wisseb maybe has got a slightly stronger argument in if he's got this thing written down. I mean, i know it came out that Keith Andrews said that he felt that Wisser still owed him because half his goals last year came from free kick routines they'd worked on.
00:26:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, that's a difference.
00:26:20
Iain
That seems a bit tenuous, certainly to go against a promise that's put down in writing. But, you know, they're players, aren't they? They're players.
00:26:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:26:29
Iain
i don't say I don't think Wisser has done anywhere near as um shady an action as Isaac has, although...
00:26:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
I agree. Yes, Ian.
00:26:40
Iain
it's It's the last day of the yeah of the window before he's come out with his statement, and he looks like he's every right to be a bit frustrated..
00:26:42
Jo
Yeah. hmm.
00:26:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
I agree. I think that's the main difference. Izak probably did have conversations again at all. maybe or whatever but you probably did have conversations about wanting to leave and can go to a bigger club and we get that but clearly nothing was written down or your agent so incompetent it wasn't putting your contract this is written down and we said probably does have a right to feel aggravated and no whoever sees this on tiktok because our tiktok comments are wild at the minute we are getting 30 odd thousand views which is nice but
00:27:15
Iain
Thank
00:27:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's mental that people will attack us here. They will come for us and they will say, what's the difference? So, Joe, what is the difference? Why? i agree with Ian, by the way. I think what Wieser's doing is it's not ideal because just like Brentford and Newcastle and Izak and Brentford and Wieser, the club have made that player before these players came to these clubs that didn't really have this superstar reputation.
00:27:24
Jo
True.
00:27:27
Jo
yeah
00:27:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
So what are your thoughts on the difference between Wieser and Izak, Joe, before we move on?
00:27:36
Jo
true
00:27:40
Jo
Look, we've had this conversation before, and I've said I wouldn't be a hypocrite, so I'm not saying what Viss has done is absolutely perfect or anything like that. It's not. But it is 100% not on the same level as Izak. And anyone that wants to come at us or attack us like they love to do, they're absolutely uneducated on the fact on both sides of things.
00:27:51
Iain
Thank you.
00:27:56
Jo
They need to re-look into exactly what Izak's done and exactly what Viss has done before they can say anything. Because Izak is... To literally say he's on a next level with this, it really is on a next level.
00:28:06
Jo
I mean, Vesa has at times even trained with the squad as well. So it's not like he's completely... Isaac has completely segregated himself from that team.
00:28:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep.
00:28:15
Jo
He doesn't see them. He doesn't do anything with them. All right, he might have a few mates that he might ring and text. We don't know about that. But in terms of actually spending your time with the actual team or how or anything like that, and like you say, to top it off what Ian said before, he literally must have just stuck his fingers up at the directors who went to his house.
00:28:31
Jo
The absolute disrespect what's coming from Isaac is just on another level to what this has done, I'll be honest.
00:28:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:28:36
Jo
And going back to what you've just read out, by the way, two seconds in, just on what Kevin was saying on his statement before.
00:28:37
Iain
Yeah, don't know, by the way.
00:28:43
Jo
The statement that he's put out is so much, there's so much more information in that. All right, it was a lot longer, and I know Kev only read out a little bit, but even what Kev read out.
00:28:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, it's detailed. Wiese's statement is detailed.
00:28:51
Jo
But this is the point, though. Even that part that you read out had so much more information than Isaac's most vague, vague kind of, and I'll put this out on, e I'll just put it out.
00:28:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. that was just it's
00:29:01
Jo
All promises were broken.
00:29:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Promises are broken. and It's best if everybody goes.
00:29:03
Jo
What promises, Isaac? This is why I said the last thing.
00:29:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Tell us.
00:29:05
Jo
What promises? like And who on earth, in in that kind of level of profession, takes word of mouth with no recording, no nothing written down?
00:29:13
Iain
don't
00:29:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, get it in your contract.
00:29:14
Jo
You don't. It's so unprofessional from his side of things. So he deserves everything he gets, which is nothing. Go for it, Ian.
00:29:20
Iain
They don't.
00:29:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:29:21
Iain
The extra point I was going to make was I think Wieser has trained with his teammates, has made himself available for selection and it's Keith Andrews' decision not to pick him in the first two games of of the Premier League season.
00:29:31
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:29:34
Jo
Yep.
00:29:36
Iain
So it is a different situation.
00:29:39
Jo
Huge.
00:29:39
Iain
um And ah you know i don't know I don't know if his statement will make any difference or not.
00:29:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
All
00:29:47
Iain
um It shouldn't do. I'd prefer Strand Larson anyway, because he's not eight weeks off in the middle of the season to go to the Africa Cup of Nations.
00:29:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
right, let's go into this then.
00:29:54
Jo
true
00:29:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
So Strand Larson, as Ian just said there, has also been

Strand-Larsen's Potential Move

00:29:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
in Newcastle. He didn't play and this weekend, which was, again, it was a little bit of a shock because he played him.
00:30:00
Iain
Yeah.
00:30:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
but He came off a bench in the cup to score two goals. I think the issue here for a lot of Newcastle fans, and i'm not going to speak for everybody, but the price tag, we made a bit of 50, 55. I think 60 was rejected as well.
00:30:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
It might have been 55 up to 60.
00:30:20
Jo
55, yeah.
00:30:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's a lot of money for a player who's only had, what, 14 goals in the Premier League. But I mean, again, it's for Eddie Howe effect, isn't it? we we We're excited. at but I'm excited about Fernando Berbercrouch because of what Eddie Howe could do with Fernando Berbercrouch.
00:30:35
Jo
ah can't take it.
00:30:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
right but I'm going to call him that for the whole time now, right?
00:30:38
Jo
I love that.
00:30:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm excited with Fernando Berbercrouch because I think what could Eddie Howe do with him? With two-meter Messi, right? That's another one. If you want to have that one, with two-meter Messi, the way he dribbles is unbelievable. I'm excited the thought of how with Strand-Larsen. I'm excited at the thought of how with Wiese. But it's let's face it, both of them kind of want to leave.
00:30:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think Strand-Larsen, very...
00:30:58
Iain
Thank you.
00:30:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
politely, according to Fabrizio Romano, very politely informed Wolves that he would like to go. That was the statement which was put out. And I think this is going mental. It's all because of Isaac, by way. I have very politely informed the club that I would like to join Newcastle.
00:31:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
This is nuts. um Strand Larson, man, I think we're probably only going to get one, guys. i don't think we're going to get both, but let me know if you think we might get both.
00:31:20
Jo
No.
00:31:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
And there's only going to be one more signing then we'll wrap it up. So I'm going to come to Ian first this time. ian Is it going to be one more signing only and it'll be out of M2? Or are we just going to sign one of M2 and somebody else? What's happening? and Predict the close of a transfer window to tonight.
00:31:38
Iain
Well, I think we'll get striker.
00:31:40
Jo
No. but
00:31:42
Iain
I think they i'll think we'll have a choice of the pair of them, to be fair, um in the end.
00:31:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, nice.
00:31:46
Iain
Or probably it'll be Whissa because Wolves just... If Wolves let Strand Larson go, they're signing their own suicide note for surviving an apprenticeship.
00:31:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, we're down on them.

Transfer Window Predictions and Strategy

00:31:56
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:31:57
Iain
Because, you know, of of all the people who scored goals last year, Cunha's gone... If Strand-Larsen goes, and they sold eight Nuri, by the way, who was the third highest scorer with four, they've not got very many Premier League goals there.
00:32:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Wow. Great knowledge.
00:32:10
Iain
um But I do you think there's going to be a sneaky little midfielder join us. um
00:32:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
david de bartesi
00:32:17
Iain
forte um ah but bit Maybe not a signing, but on loan, with an obligation to buy, to come in later on. um Fratezi keeps getting mentioned.
00:32:28
Iain
He's a fabulous player. um But I don't know how serious these references to the Barcelona lad, Firmin, are.
00:32:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, he looks nailed on for Chelsea at the minute, but yeah, keeps coming, keeps coming up.
00:32:37
Iain
I think he's looking for a move. Yeah. I would like to... where I'd like that to happen because we'd have Firmin in midfield and Vermin sitting on the bench.
00:32:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Ah, he's like, it's over.
00:32:52
Jo
Fantastic.
00:32:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
My goodness. So, Ian thinks we're going to get two more, maybe a midfielder. I would love Fratezi. If Ian's right on Fratezi, then maybe we say, what a window.
00:32:59
Jo
ah
00:33:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's our best window for years. m
00:33:06
Iain
Yeah.
00:33:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Joe, how are you feeling, man, about kind of this deadline tonight? What's happening? Ooh.
00:33:11
Jo
I reckon we're definitely getting a striker in the Ezeks going. That's my prediction, right, for 7pm tonight. I reckon we're going to sign a striker and Liverpool are going to come in with like at least 135 Ezeks and we're going to sell them and we're all going to absolutely be over the moon.
00:33:25
Jo
And going back to what you just said, it's actually a bloody excellent window if that happens. Let's get real.
00:33:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Great window.
00:33:30
Jo
If we want to break down who we've brought in so far and the potential of what I've just said, and if Ian's bang on and we get another the midfielder as well, I mean, we're talking a
00:33:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh.
00:33:40
Jo
unreal window it's went from being yeah it's went from being tragic a few weeks ago everyone on panic stations and don't get wrong all right you are being your happy clap myself this is very true yeah you are clapping like the special one it was beautifully and it's perfect it's bang on it's true though but like no
00:33:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
If Fritezi comes in,
00:33:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
I wasn't, I was never in, pan I was way too positive to be a Toon fan, if you remember. Thanks, Ian.
00:33:55
Iain
us That's my Kev impression.
00:33:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm like that all the time, Ian.
00:34:00
Iain
yeah I think it'd be good.
00:34:04
Jo
We weren't panicking, but we were a bit negative Ian, weren't we?
00:34:04
Iain
Michael wants...
00:34:06
Jo
I'll be honest. I got a bit na i got be down about it.
00:34:07
Iain
Yeah. Well, it just was so frustrating. So frustrating.
00:34:11
Jo
Yeah.
00:34:11
Iain
So many strikers saying... But... but We were saying we're shopping in the wrong rung market, weren't we?
00:34:17
Jo
Yeah.
00:34:17
Iain
We're going

Conclusion and Future Outlook

00:34:17
Iain
for strikers that Chelsea or Liverpool or Man U would want.
00:34:18
Jo
was
00:34:22
Iain
And actually, we've been a bit sneaky and kept it quiet and gone and got Walter Marder, who Bayern Munich were after all summer.
00:34:28
Jo
going to say, we took it off by it instead.
00:34:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
who oh Burber Crouch Burber Crouch
00:34:29
Iain
Bayern Munich.
00:34:30
Jo
It's fine. Oh, sorry.
00:34:33
Iain
Yeah, Fernando Berbercrouch, yes, him.
00:34:33
Jo
Yes. Please get that on the back of your shirt, Kev.
00:34:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah thank you should I get Burber Crouch 27 on the back I might do that F F Burber Crouch
00:34:36
Jo
Get a shirt with Berber Crouch on the back, please. Please. Please do. You've got it, man. Yeah.
00:34:43
Iain
but I do think the loan market is still open to us.
00:34:44
Jo
Hmm.
00:34:46
Iain
Michael would um has always said we need another left back. um i don't know if we do.
00:34:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
think just keep Tino's in their back.
00:34:55
Iain
If Tino's going to be left back, but we've got rid of Target.
00:34:56
Jo
a
00:34:59
Iain
We've got Hall. I don't know who the next one down from that is.
00:35:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Burn?
00:35:03
Iain
Dan Byrne?
00:35:03
Jo
then
00:35:04
Iain
But we want Dan Byrne to be a centre-half, don't we?
00:35:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:35:04
Jo
and
00:35:05
Iain
That's his position. He's
00:35:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, but you've Chow and Botman.
00:35:08
Iain
that's his position he's
00:35:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Botman could, yeah.
00:35:09
Jo
We've got a lot to cover in the middle now though, haven't we?
00:35:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. it's It's exciting.
00:35:13
Jo
Kind of.
00:35:13
Iain
she did It's good.
00:35:15
Jo
And...
00:35:16
Iain
Let's cover. Let's cover.
00:35:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think, I think personally before we round off, I think I want Izak to go. So my prediction is going to be that Izak goes. I just think Like I said earlier, if we wait too long and he doesn't play, we're losing opportunity to really shake off the PSR shackles, which we've been begging for as Newcastle fans for ages to shake them shackles off.
00:35:38
Jo
Yeah.
00:35:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
So let's get Ezek out. Let's get some big money from him. might not be the 150 we want, but it might be 120 rising to 130.
00:35:43
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:35:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
I would take that right now. and And I think we will definitely get one more strike. I think out of Wieset and Strang Larsson, It's probably going to be Wieser. I think, like Ian said, Wolves need Stran Larsson too much.
00:35:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Brentford, even though they've lost them or haven't started over the season well, it looks like Wieser is kind of desperate and pushing for that move.
00:35:57
Jo
yeah
00:36:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, I think we'll get Wieser in. I'd love to see Fratezi, but I don't know if that'll happen. and But it's going to be an exciting day. How many transfer windows recently? If we went into the final day, think it's going to be exciting. and So, hey, this is going to be good.
00:36:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's enjoy it.
00:36:17
Jo
Yeah.
00:36:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
7pm tonight. It closes. and I hope, I really hope there's two more on an EZAC exit. But we will see. Anyway, I'm off to get Fernando Burba crouch on the back of my new shirt.
00:36:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
And you'll hear from us tomorrow after the window closes. Thank you very much.
00:36:46
Iain
I love soccer.
