Turkish Elections and Polling Discrepancies

about the Turkish elections where incumbent president Recep Tayyip Erdogan was re-elected after an election campaign which promised to be close but ended up being a somewhat ringing endorsement of his autocratic style. The election results were somewhat surprising given that polling had indicated the race for president and the constitution of the parliament would be close.

Indeed, it would be tempting, given the president's style, to think that maybe there was a little bit of ballot box stuffing. However, in its early days, as the results of the election will not be finalised until after we record this episode, it seems that international election observers really do think the elections were free and fair.

However, political scientists have for a while been talking about why this is the case. Often people have polled about who they would vote for, taken to account social factors, what's the most virtuous vote to cast, who's asking the question and the like, which is to say that how we respond to questions like how would you vote

Accusations in Hungary and Poland's Controversial Law

Yes, it's time for an update on that Poland Holocaust Law thing we talked about many months ago. Poland passed a law which made it illegal and criminal to associate Nazi-led atrocities in Poland during World War II with the Polish people themselves.
