Regeneration movie review

Regeneration is possibly the most important movie we will discuss as part of 11 for 11/11 wart movies and mental illness.

It tells the story of the early efforts to ‘cure’ and or treat those soldiers suffering from ‘shell shock’.

309 men were executed during WW1 for cowardice. Each of these men’s records confirm they were suffering from ‘shell shock’ or, as we know it, PTSD.

Soldiers who weren’t shot outright would be shammed, harassed and even tortured as part of the treatment process.

In the lead up to 11/11 we're going to be reviewing a different war film every day and looking at the depictions of mental illness in them.

I come from a military family. Both my grandfathers served, my great grandfathers served my dad served, my mum served in the Army. My brother served.
