Speaker: So, to start off, i think I think a good easy pick, a good easy pick for to start us off is F1. I think it's one that a lot of people have heard of. I think most people could probably guess most of the plot ahead of time.
Speaker: and So, I think that's a good it's a good easy one to dip our toe in and and see how it goes. Yeah. yeah it was so for so for So for some high-level context, it was directed by Joseph koza ah Kozinski.
Speaker: ah He did Top Gun Maverick and Oblivion. as Brad pi bre Pitt, Javier Bardem, Cary Condon, and Dems and Idris in it. It's about F1 stuff.
Speaker: That's it. Now we're going to talk about spoilers. Okay, what are your quick thoughts? What did you think of F1? I want to say... I didn't know much about F1 racing before I saw this movie.
Speaker: And then I saw it and I learned a lot. Like, yeah, um we'll talk about the spoilers, but there's things that happen in it where you're like, oh, okay, that's cool. Like rules about the race.
Speaker: um And, and I thought it was really cool. think. i think
Speaker: I think ah it it's more of like action with like good acting around it. Yeah.
Speaker: Compared to some of the other movies which are like good acting is the middle part with some other stuff around it. i don't know. You know what I mean?
Speaker: Yeah, this is this is like the sports-themed kind of action film nomination for the year. um they They always kind of get one in, where it's like, well we need something.
Speaker: yeah we need like a Ford versus Ferrari. We need a ah something like that. that's That's this. It's like, where it's like very technically cool. It kind of falls in line with like a Top Gun Maverick for me, where it's like, yeah.
Speaker: is it are there Is the story theangga the I was going mention that the spoiler area, but yeah. yeah yeah it's it's not It's a lot like Top Gun Maverick.
Speaker: It's like if you replace planes with cars. Yeah, I mean, it's... ah So my mike my quick notes are, like my my silly one is, like it's Cars, the Pixar movie, but real life with F1.
Speaker: like It's kind of, but with just some major plot points, just kind of like, instead that person, it's this person. Um, my, my quick note is it's fast, fun, feel good and predictable.
Speaker: Like, are you going to have a good time? Are you going have a good time watching it? Yeah. You can't help it. It's Brad fricking pit playing Brad Pitt. Like, It's going to be good, but is it going to change your life?
Speaker: Are you going to think about it for days after that, being like, damn, no, I didn't. I'm like, that was fun. I hadnt i had a good time. And there's some wild kind of technical stuff in it that I thought. that's kind of Yeah, I think i think if if if you want to learn more about F1, watch it.
Speaker: like If it's like on the fringe of your like kind of interest, you should watch it. um if if you like F1, obviously watch it. um Yeah.
Speaker: But, ah yeah. I don't know. Should we get in the spoiler part? Yeah, let's go let's go so let's go spoilers.
Speaker: Alright.
Speaker: So it's it's it's a lot like Top Gun Maverick because it's like I picture Brad Pitt's character, i forget his name, and is like Maverick to me.
Speaker: yeah Helps the young guy in the end, that kind of thing. I did like the character development of him, just like in Talking and Maverick. The character development throughout the movie of Brad Pitt's character was portrayed really well, done really written really well. i loved it. um there was like You know you said it was predictable. There was a question though, like who was actually going to win the rate? like Who yeah was going to get it?
Speaker: That was the like lingering question. But still was not surprised with the Undean. I like the way they did it. Because some of those are so yeah predictable and shoehorned.
Speaker: That with this one, it's like you're kind of coming up to it. I'm okay either way. however However this lands. um But I just want to not see it mile away.
Speaker: a mile away And no pun intended, you didn't really see it a mile away, but it was just like, oh shit. like I think with the complexities of F1, think that lends itself to some of the like...
Speaker: Maybe if people are more into F1, because I'm not really into it. So it's like, maybe if you're super knowledgeable on f one you're like, you can see the steps and the beats of like how this is going to work. But as somebody who's like, i don't know all the rules, like that kind of kept throwing curve balls and be like, oh, cool. Okay. That, okay. That makes sense. I guess like if you say so, like that's fun. That's a fun little quirk. um So i think that made it kind of more interesting than maybe like a days of thunder.
Speaker: NASCAR style we we just turned left over and over and over again. did feel like a lot like Days of Thunder as well.
Speaker: But um the acting was really well done. i thought like damn's Damson? Idris? ah ah Yeah, Dam's a Nydris. Idris, I don't know. He did a really good job of making you like kind of not like him. like It was like, God damn, I really don't like this guy, this character.
Speaker: yeah he You didn't like him, but at the same time you thought but you felt you felt for him though. like Yeah. Because he shows his vulnerability sometimes. yeah yeah He's very Ted Lasso. like like It's very in ah in the same vein as like a Ted Lasso episode where it's like, oh, these they're all just a bunch of egotistical assholes. Exactly. But they're actually like real people and they're all kind of broken in some way.
Speaker: Like, they're more real. Like, I like that about that. It wasn't just Ricky Bobby turn left. i'm i'm driving I'm driving for I'm driving for Ferrari. I'm a little confused by your tactics.
Speaker: I'm going to keep acting tough until I figure it out. Talmudic Nights, baby. There is. Go ahead. You ahead. Kerry Condon.
Speaker: carrie conon Yeah. Oh, skeleton crew. Yes, yes, yes, yes. She was phenomenal as well. I think she did a yeah fantastic job. I don't I think they did a good job of like not making her just arm candy, whatever, but like the James Bond chick.
Speaker: Yeah. Or something. Not just they're like and I think there was actually some points in the movie where a different character was like, hey, I appreciate you doing that, but like don't do that ever again. it makes It makes it seem like it kind of throws that typical like trope back in its face a little bit, which i was like, ah, nice. we can We can grow and learn. Look at us.
Speaker: Yeah, her character was really cool. thought it was awesome. There was one part of the movie that like i've I've been noticing it over the years. like It's really hard to not notice it, um which I call the the Abu Dhabi promotional ending.
Speaker: um which I feel like 15% of movies coming out these days always have some kind of Abu Dhabi promotional ending where it's like... Since that Mission Impossible, where he's like outside of the building.
Speaker: Yeah, it's like, okay. Like, nothing against Abu Dhabi. Like, it's not... It's just, it's so jarring. And maybe, maybe it's just because I'm unfamiliar with Abu Dhabi and like, it's very noticeable. Like I noticed it really hard with, uh, now you see me.
Speaker: whatever the newest one is. Now you don't see me anymore, whatever, three, four, 10, whatever was. And it's like, next thing you know, like they, they're all in Abu Dhabi. It's like, God, is this like the new, like promo tax break thing where it's like, come to Abu Dhabi and we'll bankroll. That's what it feels like. It's, it's, it's very jarring for me.
Speaker: It doesn't take away from the movie. It's just like, there it is. Knew we'd get there one way or another. Yep. And speaking of Ted Lasso, Sarah Niles was in it. You know, she plays the,
Speaker: Psychiatrist that Ted Lasso has in Ted Lasso. But ah also, shit hurt she's such a good actress ah to Very different character. a really different character. really do but phenomenal. It's like, there's a, to a point where it was like, that is her, right?
Speaker: Because she's so different in Ted Lasso than she is. Like every, from, from top, top to bottom voice, mannerisms, everything is just completely different. It's like, it looks like her, but is it her? And then you look it up like, okay, yeah, it is.
Speaker: That's the sign of a good actor, right? Yes. If they can take you, if they can take their one, Yeah. I mean, granted, Brad Pitt was playing Brad Pitt this entire movie.
Speaker: Yes. Which, that is what you pay for, in a way, with these movies. Not that that's not enjoyable, or like... like it's It's like Ryan Reynolds, or Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt. like Once you get these these kind of staples, these big movie staples, it's like you're you're paying to see them act as themselves. um Like...
Speaker: Javier Bardem was phenomenal in this as well. Always. He's always. what Very vulnerable and stuff. in there Usually a villain, but he was both a little bit in this, I thought.
Speaker: Obviously not villain mostly, but sometimes felt like he was not on your side. Like, I thought he's he I didn't take him as a villain. I took him as like that friend who's like more responsible than you are.
Speaker: Like he's looking out for you more than you are yourself. um But until you kind of have to tell him it's like him. In the middle, it was kind of wishy washy. It was like, yeah, yeah, yeah. like like him Is he is he on our side? Like, yeah. and and And obviously the audience is on the side with Brad Pitt's character, Sonny. But it was.
Speaker: It was yeah it's like, that's like yeah it's like an audience member. I'm like, yeah, take the rocket to the moon, dude. Like, who cares? I'm not, it doesn't affect me. Who cares? Like, i want to see something awesome. ah yeah But that's definite one Okay. If you, ah do you have, like, so, okay, first of all, do you have, ah do you recommend that people watch it? I can go first. So ah I have a kind of three stages. Like, yes, you should, a yes, you should watch it.
Speaker: Maybe up to you. And yeah, No, I don't think you should. Those are my three recommendations. And then I just did scores of like one to 10 for, and I tried the way I did my scores. is Like I tried not to use the same number twice. I'm not saying you can, you don't have to do that because I did all mine ahead of time.
Speaker: Um, so for me, I gave this a score of a seven out of 10. And I, my recommendation is maybe if you're into this kind of thing, like,
Speaker: Take it or leave it. if you If you sound something like you want, yeah, watch it. It's good. I enjoyed it. It's not a bad movie. It was fucking fun. And it was funny. I laughed a lot. And I had a good time. Yes, it was funny. um I'm with you on that. Like, as I mentioned earlier, like, if you have any inkling of wanting to learn or liking F1, watch it.
Speaker: I think it's good. You learn it. And I think i read that it's kind of close to how it is. it In actuality, F1.
Speaker: But um obviously not exploiting rules and shit like they did. um ah But yeah, i I recommend it if you like Brad Pitt, if you like a thriller suspense action-y kind of thing.
Speaker: But it's it's you're not going to be like surprised. It's not going to blow your mind or anything. So i'm I'm with you. I was going to give you like a seven or eight. Yeah. Maybe 6.5.
Speaker: I'll put that in my, I'll put what I used was F1. I'll do seven. You said seven or 7.5 or six, seven, do seven. Yeah. It's going with seven on that one.
Speaker: All right. Yeah.
