00:01:35
Speaker
As always, I've got my man here, Joseph Nguyen.
00:01:37
Speaker
What's up, everyone?
00:01:41
Speaker
So man, I'm pretty pumped about what we're talking about today.
00:01:44
Speaker
This is some stuff that Joseph and I have been working on personally in our own lives and as well as some of our clients.
00:01:51
Speaker
And we've got some groundbreaking strategies here to really just lay down on you guys to really change the way that you sell.
00:02:01
Speaker
So we're going to talk about how to eliminate approach anxiety and the fear of rejection.
00:02:07
Speaker
forever right and so the first thing we're going to talk about and dive into is that ego is the enemy right so what is approach anxiety and fear of rejection exactly like the reason why we have that is because we're always we're thinking about how we're going to look and the reaction that we're going to have when they judge us right and that only comes from ego
00:02:33
Speaker
Because of this thing, approach anxiety, what happens is that you want to protect your ego at all costs.
00:02:37
Speaker
You don't want to seem like you have lower status.
00:02:39
Speaker
You don't want to seem dumb or look silly in front of people.
00:02:42
Speaker
Because of that, we're always anxious to approach people.
00:02:45
Speaker
We're afraid to knock the door.
00:02:46
Speaker
We're afraid of getting rejected.
00:02:49
Speaker
If you don't think about or if you don't have ego, right, you don't think about those consequences or you're not afraid of that thing or being rejected anymore.
00:02:59
Speaker
Like whatever happens, happens.
00:03:01
Speaker
And so as soon as you don't care about yourself, as soon as you let go of your ego and not worry about what other people are going to think of you,
00:03:09
Speaker
you eliminate that approach anxiety and fear of rejection.
00:03:12
Speaker
So how do I do that?
00:03:14
Speaker
That sounds pretty crazy, Joseph.
Techniques to Reduce Ego and Anxiety
00:03:16
Speaker
It's pretty crazy.
00:03:17
Speaker
How do you get rid of that ego?
00:03:17
Speaker
I'm like one of the most egotistical guys in history, man.
00:03:23
Speaker
There's a lot of things you can do, man.
00:03:26
Speaker
And it pretty much like the easiest way to do it, right?
00:03:30
Speaker
It's not necessarily easy, but it is simple, right?
00:03:32
Speaker
It's literally just practice.
00:03:34
Speaker
It's just doing uncomfortable things in the first place.
00:03:38
Speaker
So one of the examples that we like to give in the training is, for example, just going into Starbucks and just laying down for like 15 to 20 seconds in the middle of the floor, straight up.
00:03:49
Speaker
And I know James has done this a couple times.
00:03:51
Speaker
And for me, I've just sat down in the middle of the walkway in an extremely busy mall or even laid down.
00:03:57
Speaker
Or I'll just like make some animal noises.
00:03:59
Speaker
Like it's weird, man.
00:04:02
Speaker
So much like socially, like there's so many unwritten quote unquote rules, right?
00:04:08
Speaker
That society follows.
00:04:10
Speaker
But when it comes down to it, there's no reason that we do things.
00:04:14
Speaker
It's just been done over and over again.
00:04:17
Speaker
The rules are all made up in the first place, so you can break them because they were just made up by someone in the first place.
00:04:23
Speaker
So the way that you can do that is just by doing really uncomfortable, awkward, weird things.
00:04:30
Speaker
And the reason why you won't do those things is because of your ego.
00:04:33
Speaker
And a lot of times the ego is so sneaky.
00:04:34
Speaker
We think that we don't have an ego because we're always like, oh, I always care about other people.
00:04:37
Speaker
Or we always say, oh, I really don't care about what people think about me.
00:04:41
Speaker
But honestly, if you dig down deep inside, if you're afraid to knock on the door, if you're afraid to go approach someone and ask for their number, if you're afraid to just ask someone for anything, or just to do something silly in public, then you have ego.
00:04:54
Speaker
And that's something that you have to address.
00:04:55
Speaker
Otherwise, you're going to continue to feel anxious and always fear rejection.
00:05:02
Speaker
And it isn't until you address
Mental Preparation and Acceptance of Outcomes
00:05:03
Speaker
that that you can overcome it.
00:05:04
Speaker
So that's the first step, right?
00:05:06
Speaker
And meditation is another huge, huge thing that you can do.
00:05:09
Speaker
Just like visualizing yourself doing those awkward things, right?
00:05:12
Speaker
If you can't do it yet, what you can do is visualize yourself doing it so many times over that you feel like you've already done it.
00:05:19
Speaker
And feel the feelings that what you would feel like as you're doing the actions, right?
00:05:23
Speaker
As what it would feel like if you were doing it.
00:05:24
Speaker
And as soon as you do that and visualize it multiple times over and over, it's muscle memory and you go out in public and do it, then it's not as bad as you think it is.
00:05:32
Speaker
So also another thing is like visualizing the worst case scenario, right, James?
00:05:36
Speaker
Like what's the worst that could happen by doing this action that you're afraid of?
00:05:40
Speaker
This is old like stoic philosophy on this is accepting the worst case scenario as if it's already happened.
00:05:51
Speaker
You're prepared mentally, physically.
00:05:53
Speaker
You're prepared for the worst thing.
00:05:55
Speaker
And often you're going to be surprised the other way.
00:05:58
Speaker
So just ask yourself, like, what's the worst that could happen?
00:06:01
Speaker
And then more importantly, what have other people done to overcome that thing in the past in history?
00:06:07
Speaker
And think of actual examples.
00:06:10
Speaker
on how people actually overcame and maybe even turn that negative into a positive.
00:06:14
Speaker
So let's give you an actual example here with knocking doors.
00:06:18
Speaker
What if you knocked on the door and you said something totally stupid and you sounded like a complete idiot and the prospect's about to say no, right?
00:06:28
Speaker
or they laugh at you, how can you turn that into your favor?
00:06:31
Speaker
Well, we know if they're going to laugh at you, right?
00:06:34
Speaker
Certain hormones are going to come through, boom.
00:06:37
Speaker
They're going to feel a certain way.
00:06:38
Speaker
They're going to feel a connection and bond with you because you made a mistake.
00:06:42
Speaker
You showed you were human.
00:06:44
Speaker
You can actually flip that to your advantage, get their attention, and close that freaking deal, right?
00:06:49
Speaker
Anything's possible with this.
00:06:52
Speaker
It's so easy to flip anything.
00:06:54
Speaker
It's a simple perspective shift.
Turning Rejection into Opportunity
00:06:57
Speaker
like especially customer service like if a company does something wrong it's like another opportunity to do something right and then create a raving fan out of that thing so like it's always so good like at a restaurant right for example if they messed up your food but they brought out or they like
00:07:12
Speaker
a way that they can reprimand that situation or remedy it and make it better is by giving you a meal for free and being like, oh, now I love this place, right?
00:07:18
Speaker
But they made a mistake.
00:07:19
Speaker
They took responsibility for it, and now you love the place.
00:07:22
Speaker
When they could have easily just said, oh, you ordered that thing.
00:07:25
Speaker
It's not our fault.
00:07:26
Speaker
It's like that every single time.
00:07:28
Speaker
But now you can turn that situation or any situation into something that you can...
00:07:33
Speaker
prosper from, honestly.
00:07:34
Speaker
That's like the greatest thing that you could do.
00:07:37
Speaker
It's just a simple mindset shift, really.
00:07:40
Speaker
No, that's really all it is.
00:07:42
Speaker
Ego is a mindset, okay?
00:07:44
Speaker
It's a certain lens.
00:07:45
Speaker
The definition of ego is how you view yourself, okay?
00:07:49
Speaker
It's the third person view that you have of yourself.
00:07:53
Speaker
We often live in our egos, our identities more specifically,
00:07:57
Speaker
We define ourselves as, oh, I'm not that kind of guy.
00:08:01
Speaker
I wouldn't do this, right?
00:08:02
Speaker
That's your ego saying, this is who I am.
00:08:04
Speaker
This is how I behave at this point.
00:08:06
Speaker
So you got to be aware of these things.
00:08:08
Speaker
When it comes down to sales or anything like this, this is just
Personal Growth Reflects in Business Success
00:08:12
Speaker
life advice right here.
00:08:13
Speaker
But we know that our personal problems just become relevant in sales and in business.
00:08:18
Speaker
So if we can't figure out ourselves.
00:08:21
Speaker
We can't control our ego.
00:08:23
Speaker
It's going to affect every area of sales.
00:08:25
Speaker
And you guys have noticed that with approach anxiety just being one of those things that ego is going to just destroy.
00:08:33
Speaker
This is just a mirror, right?
00:08:34
Speaker
Like we're all entrepreneurs here, right?
00:08:38
Speaker
What business is, is it's a reflection of your personal life.
00:08:42
Speaker
So if you've got stuff going on in your personal life that you haven't resolved yet, it's going to reflect in your business.
00:08:47
Speaker
And that's happened with James and I multiple times over.
00:08:50
Speaker
And it isn't until that we fixed... We tried to fix the business problem, right?
00:08:53
Speaker
And we just kept band-aiding it and band-aiding it and just putting duct tape on it.
00:08:59
Speaker
And it just kept breaking and breaking and breaking.
00:09:01
Speaker
Yeah, and it isn't until that we actually solved...
00:09:04
Speaker
our personal problems, that's when our business problems became solved as well.
00:09:08
Speaker
Like, that's so key.
00:09:10
Speaker
And like, people think that, oh, like my professional life and my personal life are separate.
00:09:18
Speaker
Yeah, it's just your life.
00:09:19
Speaker
Like, you're not split into two different people, right?
00:09:24
Speaker
It's all encompassing, it's all interconnected.
00:09:26
Speaker
And another thing to think about in this case, right, is, I think this is Tim Ferriss.
00:09:32
Speaker
I know you talked about this, James, too, but it's like, what happens if you don't do this action that you're afraid of doing?
00:09:39
Speaker
Cost of inaction, oh, Jesus.
00:09:42
Speaker
Yeah, the cost of that, right?
00:09:43
Speaker
Like, for example, if you don't knock on these doors, what's going to happen in a week?
00:09:47
Speaker
Maybe not much, right?
00:09:48
Speaker
What about in a month?
00:09:49
Speaker
What about in a year?
00:09:50
Speaker
What happens if you don't knock doors for a year?
00:09:52
Speaker
What happens if you don't talk to prospects for two years, three years, five years?
00:09:57
Speaker
You don't follow up, guys.
00:09:59
Speaker
This is a huge one I had.
00:10:00
Speaker
I used to have a big fear of following up.
00:10:02
Speaker
Seems stupid, right?
00:10:03
Speaker
Like I would go out there and get tons of leads.
00:10:07
Speaker
I would have my anxiety and rejection.
00:10:09
Speaker
I'd have that on control, right?
00:10:11
Speaker
But when it came to following up with people that โ
00:10:14
Speaker
I got in touch with man for some reason had a crippling fear over it But you know if you don't follow up for a week a month two years You could literally lose that deal to a competitor and if you listen to the last episode right and you come across the guy who listened to that boom Oh my god isn't I think we helped one of the companies before in California right our friend Taylor like
00:10:42
Speaker
So we, like, contacted or helped him contact, like, thousands of leads that he had in his database just sitting there, right, for years.
00:10:50
Speaker
And he just never followed up, right?
00:10:52
Speaker
The company never followed up with them.
00:10:54
Speaker
And so what James and I did, like, we followed up with those people.
00:10:57
Speaker
We put them through email segments.
00:10:59
Speaker
We left voicemail drops and called multiple times.
00:11:04
Speaker
And what happened, bro?
00:11:25
Speaker
They would have gone with him and the company if they just followed up.
00:11:29
Speaker
I remember when you first sent out the email, within hours, you got four or five messages saying, oh, yeah, thanks, James.
00:11:38
Speaker
We literally just went solar last month.
00:11:40
Speaker
And we were like, oh, my God.
00:11:42
Speaker
Dude, so cringeworthy.
00:11:46
Speaker
Although we did close a couple of deals from that list, but it's still like 80 deals is just crazy.
00:11:55
Speaker
That right there, that is the perfect example of the cost of inaction.
00:12:00
Speaker
So if you ever think about, or if you're ever scared about doing something, just think about the cost of not doing it, right?
00:12:07
Speaker
And that should move you in the right direction immediately.
Exposure and Adaptation to Rejection
00:12:10
Speaker
Guys, the other piece to this here is you have to numb yourself to rejection.
00:12:15
Speaker
We talked about a couple of things, but you've got to basically work down, grind down that rejection and
00:12:21
Speaker
feeling that you have.
00:12:23
Speaker
That is really something that's, again, made up in your mind.
00:12:26
Speaker
Yes, we're hardwired to fear rejection to a degree, but there's really only a couple of fears, right?
00:12:32
Speaker
I actually did a study, a couple of searches on this the other day.
00:12:35
Speaker
There's only two fears that humans are naturally born with, okay?
00:12:41
Speaker
One is the fear of being killed.
00:12:46
Speaker
Two is the fear of falling from a height.
00:12:51
Speaker
Those are the only two fears that humans are naturally born with and hardwired with.
00:12:56
Speaker
All the other fears we have...
00:12:58
Speaker
are just taught to us.
00:12:59
Speaker
They're learned traits.
00:13:02
Speaker
You can learn something, you can unlearn something.
00:13:06
Speaker
One of the primary ways I like to do this is just numbing that rejection feeling.
00:13:10
Speaker
So going doing things that are going to automatically
00:13:15
Speaker
put you in the light of rejection.
00:13:17
Speaker
So one of them, right, you can stand at the Starbucks, right, and lay down, right?
00:13:21
Speaker
That's one thing people look at you kind of like a weirdo.
00:13:24
Speaker
Another one is go ask a stranger for $100.
00:13:27
Speaker
Go ask 20 people for $100.
00:13:31
Speaker
Absolutely terrifying.
00:13:34
Speaker
Yeah, just make a joke out of it.
00:13:35
Speaker
Honestly, like, just like go up in restaurants and just like ask people,
00:13:39
Speaker
Yo, can I get a bite of that?
00:13:41
Speaker
It's just like, just do something.
00:13:44
Speaker
Sometimes people say yeah.
00:13:46
Speaker
Sometimes, yeah, geez, dude.
00:13:49
Speaker
That's the best part.
00:13:50
Speaker
Pay attention to that feeling, though, that feeling of rejection.
00:13:53
Speaker
What you're going to notice is you continually repeat to do this, and you got to do it a lot, okay?
00:13:57
Speaker
It's going to be horrible the first 10, 15, 20 times.
00:14:00
Speaker
Do it for 30 days.
00:14:01
Speaker
Do a 30-day challenge on this.
00:14:05
Speaker
There's a TED Talk, Joseph and I actually both have watched.
00:14:09
Speaker
Oh, 100 Days, right?
00:14:10
Speaker
100 Days of Rejection, yeah.
00:14:13
Speaker
Oh, God, dude, that guy is โ That guy just puts himself through the ringer just doing all this wacko stuff where he's going to get rejected, and at the end of it, he shares his findings, and it's just absolutely incredible.
00:14:23
Speaker
It's a total change of his persona.
00:14:28
Speaker
And like the fear, I actually didn't know that we were born with those two fears.
00:14:33
Speaker
But since we are, right, and then all of the other fears that we have are learned, like the way that you can prove that is, guys, like imagine if your memory was wiped.
00:14:43
Speaker
What would you actually be afraid of?
00:14:46
Speaker
We always, like the reason why we have fear is that like fear is a projection of the past into the future.
00:14:52
Speaker
That's exactly what it is.
00:14:54
Speaker
But you don't know if that future is going to come or not.
00:14:55
Speaker
But we just assume based on our past that whatever happened is going to happen again.
00:15:02
Speaker
And so if you wipe your memory, quote unquote, wipe your memory, and you don't have any recollection of your past, most of your fears, if not all, will be eradicated.
00:15:13
Speaker
Because you don't have any memory to base your experiences off of to project it into the future.
00:15:18
Speaker
So one way is just to pretend that your memory is just white and you don't know what's going to happen next.
00:15:22
Speaker
And so that's why you do the action because you don't know the consequences.
00:15:26
Speaker
I got to actually correct what I was saying.
00:15:27
Speaker
I said fear of being killed and falling.
00:15:30
Speaker
I was just Googling it.
00:15:31
Speaker
It's falling and loud noises.
00:15:33
Speaker
These are the only two things that humans have that's actually coded in our DNA.
00:15:40
Speaker
Loud noises and falling.
00:15:44
Speaker
Out of everything.
00:15:46
Speaker
And yet most people don't even...
00:15:48
Speaker
fear those things really.
00:15:49
Speaker
Yeah, like gunfire or something, you're going to automatically just respond because that's one of the fears or falling people will freak out as well.
00:15:58
Speaker
And even then those fears
00:16:00
Speaker
can be reduced the symptoms of those fears and be controlled as well.
00:16:03
Speaker
Look at a military, right?
00:16:05
Speaker
They focus on training these types of things, staying calm, staying focused in those.
00:16:09
Speaker
So really guys, above all, realize that this fear can be controlled.
00:16:13
Speaker
You can get a grip on this.
00:16:15
Speaker
It's very easy, not easy to do.
00:16:17
Speaker
It's very possible to do with some of these strategies.
00:16:21
Speaker
And one of those is numbing yourself to that rejection.
00:16:27
Speaker
Yeah, so that's basically number two.
00:16:29
Speaker
Oh, another thing is, guys, if you guys know what sensory adaption is, that's essentially what you're doing here with becoming numb to rejection.
00:16:37
Speaker
So, you know, like when you smell food or something or really bad stench, but eventually over time, like a couple minutes passes, 10 minutes passes, you don't smell it anymore, right?
00:16:48
Speaker
That's because you're continually exposed to the same environment or the same thing.
00:16:53
Speaker
Until you don't notice it anymore.
00:16:55
Speaker
So just like that, right?
00:16:56
Speaker
Like that smell or whatever that is, that sensation, you can become numb to rejection in the same way that you can become numb to a specific scent.
00:17:04
Speaker
It's just through repetition.
00:17:05
Speaker
It's just through continually being exposed to it.
00:17:08
Speaker
That's why when you stop doing income producing or prospecting activities, right, like knocking doors, getting started is when you feel that just pit in the stomach, right, anxiety and fear of doing it.
00:17:22
Speaker
After you get going after 34, 40 minutes or you're falling up, it's not that bad.
00:17:27
Speaker
It's the exact same thing here.
00:17:30
Speaker
Always harder to get started than to continue what you've already done.
Habits, Discipline, and Consistency in Sales
00:17:34
Speaker
Last part on this, guys, is create a habit out of it.
00:17:37
Speaker
And the science of habits are pretty simple.
00:17:40
Speaker
One, you're going to start with a cue.
00:17:42
Speaker
So the thing that your body recognizes and your mind recognizes when that habit starts.
00:17:47
Speaker
So the cue for you could be, all right, I'm going to knock doors at noon every day.
00:17:52
Speaker
Terrible time to knock doors, but I'll say it's the
00:17:55
Speaker
at noon when nobody's home, right?
00:17:58
Speaker
So that clock hits 12 o'clock, automatically your body's saying, all right, what's next, right?
00:18:04
Speaker
What's the routine I'm going to go through?
00:18:05
Speaker
The routine could be you knock doors for two hours, okay?
00:18:09
Speaker
And then the last part of the habit is the reward.
00:18:12
Speaker
Your body's going to seek a reward.
00:18:14
Speaker
It's trying to seek a feeling at the end of doing and following through on this action.
00:18:21
Speaker
Why do I say this?
00:18:23
Speaker
What you can do is actually craft your own habit now that you know the science of what makes up a habit, right?
00:18:31
Speaker
So you choose the cue.
00:18:32
Speaker
What's going to happen before you do the thing?
00:18:36
Speaker
What is the thing?
00:18:39
Speaker
Let's say it's prospecting for two hours a day, right?
00:18:42
Speaker
Sending people messages or it's knocking doors or it's working on Facebook ads for two hours a day and optimizing those, right?
00:18:48
Speaker
Whatever that is, find out whatever the habit is.
00:18:51
Speaker
And then what's the reward?
00:18:52
Speaker
What are you going to do at the end when you're done?
00:18:55
Speaker
So this could be anything from, you know, grabbing a coffee, right?
00:18:59
Speaker
Browsing the internet, watching a stupid video on YouTube for 20 minutes.
00:19:02
Speaker
This could be, you know,
00:19:04
Speaker
Anything, excuse me.
00:19:05
Speaker
It can be anything small or big compared to the habit.
00:19:09
Speaker
If it's a small habit, choose a small reward.
00:19:12
Speaker
Big habit, big reward, right?
00:19:13
Speaker
Make sure it is a reward that you're actually excited to do, that you want to follow through and get.
00:19:20
Speaker
And what you're going to notice is after, I can't remember the exact time.
00:19:24
Speaker
I just did this in a module recording too.
00:19:26
Speaker
It's 27 or 32 days, something like that.
00:19:29
Speaker
Yeah, something like that.
00:19:31
Speaker
Past 21 days, I know that for sure.
00:19:32
Speaker
Something around there.
00:19:33
Speaker
This becomes a habit and automatically you are going to just follow through.
00:19:38
Speaker
You're not going to have this fear of rejection because your body and your mind are working together as one to achieve that reward.
00:19:46
Speaker
And they know to get the reward, they've got to go through and do the habit.
00:19:50
Speaker
And as soon as that cue happens, boom, it's all autopilot.
00:19:54
Speaker
It's all systemed.
00:19:55
Speaker
And the cool part about this is by the time you're age 35,
00:20:00
Speaker
you are automatically following 90% of your day.
00:20:05
Speaker
90% of what you do in the entire day is habits.
00:20:10
Speaker
That could be good or bad.
00:20:13
Speaker
Good or bad habits.
00:20:14
Speaker
Think about the things you do, right?
00:20:16
Speaker
When you get in the shower, where do you put the soap?
00:20:18
Speaker
How do you put on your deodorant, right?
00:20:20
Speaker
How do you dry yourself?
00:20:22
Speaker
Those are all habits.
00:20:23
Speaker
How do you prepare this?
00:20:26
Speaker
All of these things, most of our life is habits.
00:20:29
Speaker
The person who can control their habits are going to have the edge over the competition because where willpower fails, habits succeed.
00:20:40
Speaker
Yeah, like for habits, we're all slaves to our habits, whether we like it or not.
00:20:46
Speaker
But most people don't realize that they can choose their habits.
00:20:49
Speaker
And by default, if you don't choose your habit, it's going to be chosen for you.
00:20:52
Speaker
Pretty much it's not going to be in the right direction that you want it to be in.
00:20:55
Speaker
And so it's so important to craft your habits.
00:20:58
Speaker
And before I learned how to craft a habit, I used to just think like, oh, I just got to do this one action for 27 days in a row, right?
00:21:07
Speaker
Like just meditate.
00:21:08
Speaker
And so I just try to sit there and meditate.
00:21:10
Speaker
And after like two or three days, I'd fail, right?
00:21:12
Speaker
And then I just wouldn't.
00:21:13
Speaker
There's no reward.
00:21:15
Speaker
So I never knew that I had to have a reward.
00:21:17
Speaker
I was like, oh, I'm not a puss.
00:21:18
Speaker
I don't need a reward.
00:21:19
Speaker
But like your body is conditioned to have a reward at the end.
00:21:23
Speaker
Otherwise, you're not going to do the action.
00:21:25
Speaker
Like your body won't do something wrong.
00:21:28
Speaker
just for doing it.
00:21:29
Speaker
It has to have a reason for doing it and something to look forward to, to receive something at the end of what you're doing.
00:21:35
Speaker
That's our entire lives, that's how we're biologically wired, so you have to have that reward.
00:21:40
Speaker
And it could be as simple as
00:21:42
Speaker
just taking a nice warm shower, whatever it is, right?
00:21:46
Speaker
Or a granola bar, whatever, like drinking water even.
00:21:51
Speaker
And so it could be as simple as that or as grand as buying yourself something.
00:21:54
Speaker
Whatever it is, you have to have a reward though.
00:21:57
Speaker
Otherwise, you're not going to stick with that habit for long enough because you're just not going to do something just to do it.
00:22:03
Speaker
And so that's where I failed previously.
00:22:05
Speaker
And it wasn't until I injected or created rewards for myself that I stuck with it.
00:22:10
Speaker
So basically, like,
00:22:11
Speaker
what we're trying to do is like we're trying to Pavlov ourselves right like ultimately we're just animals so in the same way that Pavlov trained his dogs to salivate at the ring of a bell right you can connect these two things so what cue what random cue are you gonna have and what reward are you gonna have and what action are you gonna do in order to get that reward so literally you're you're conditioning yourself just like that Pavlov's dog
00:22:35
Speaker
in order to, when you see or hear whatever this specific cue is, you do this action, this habit, and then you get a reward for it.
00:22:43
Speaker
And every time that cue goes off, you're gonna do that habit.
00:22:45
Speaker
And every time, like, just on autopilot, every single time, and it just takes 21 to 27 days to cement that.
00:22:52
Speaker
As long as you have the cue, the action, and the reward at the end, you can Pavlov yourself, essentially, and just make it a habit.
00:23:00
Speaker
This is why motivation is garbage, guys.
00:23:04
Speaker
Hyped up, Gary Vee motivated.
00:23:08
Speaker
We know that consistency in sales is the name of the game.
00:23:13
Speaker
The person who can get new leads, follow up with current leads, and close deals every single day without failing precision is going to win.
00:23:22
Speaker
If you think you're gonna be motivated every day, you are delusional, okay?
00:23:28
Speaker
It's not possible.
00:23:29
Speaker
You can't be motivated every day.
00:23:30
Speaker
One of the things that makes you feel that feeling, that overwhelming feeling of motivation is novelty, new things.
00:23:40
Speaker
I did some study on motivation, the science of motivation and the emotional side of that, right?
00:23:45
Speaker
You feel motivation when something is new, a new concept.
00:23:49
Speaker
Maybe you learned a new thing in this podcast and all of a sudden โ
00:23:52
Speaker
boom, you feel motivated, right?
00:23:54
Speaker
You feel motivated to apply what we're talking about.
00:23:57
Speaker
But when it becomes boring, repetitious, and your brain has went over those wires and those circuits over and over again, that's where motivation is not going to serve you.
00:24:07
Speaker
It's going to be gone.
00:24:08
Speaker
And habits are going to take over and override the entire system.
00:24:13
Speaker
It's pure discipline at that point.
00:24:15
Speaker
It's not whoever, like, since when in any sport, you know, like,
00:24:19
Speaker
did the most motivated person win.
00:24:21
Speaker
It was the most disciplined person that wins.
00:24:24
Speaker
You think Michael Jordan was motivated to go practice basketball three in the morning for Kobe Bryant?
00:24:32
Speaker
No one's motivated to do those things to put your body through unimaginable pain, right?
00:24:38
Speaker
It's literally the discipline that's going to carry you through that and bring you to the top.
00:24:43
Speaker
Motivation is not going to, when you hit rock bottom, right, motivation is not going to carry you up.
00:24:48
Speaker
It's the disciplines that will get you through those things.
00:24:51
Speaker
Like to do the things that no one else wants to do, that's pure discipline.
00:24:54
Speaker
That's not motivation ever.
00:24:56
Speaker
If it was for motivation, everyone would have success.
00:24:59
Speaker
Everyone always quote unquote feels motivated at some point, but not everyone has discipline, right?
00:25:03
Speaker
January 1st, baby.
00:25:04
Speaker
Everyone has motivation.
00:25:07
Speaker
And then how many people follow through?
00:25:08
Speaker
And then how many people have discipline?
00:25:11
Speaker
And that's exactly why most of those New Year's resolutions fail.
00:25:15
Speaker
But you guys are different, right?
00:25:16
Speaker
You guys are entrepreneurs.
00:25:17
Speaker
You guys are committed, right?
00:25:18
Speaker
You guys know the secrets to success now, right?
00:25:22
Speaker
It's not this motivation, like, woo-rah stuff.
00:25:25
Speaker
It's the discipline.
00:25:26
Speaker
It's what you're going to do day in, day out.
00:25:28
Speaker
No matter how you feel, no matter if you're sick, no matter if you're well, no matter how you feel, right?
00:25:32
Speaker
No matter what's going on with your life.
00:25:34
Speaker
It's the things that you stick to every single day is what is going to...
00:25:38
Speaker
be directly correlated to the amount of success that you achieve within your life.
00:25:42
Speaker
So guys, it's pure discipline.
00:25:48
Speaker
We went over visualizations a little bit, but I had a couple of thoughts on this as well.
00:25:52
Speaker
So the last part of this, right, if you haven't found enough value here in overcoming these things, then we're making something because this is all the stuff that we know.
00:26:02
Speaker
Like this is some deep, deep, deep stuff that's going to help you overcome all of these things that โ
00:26:09
Speaker
are really the handcuffs that are keeping you from growing at this point.
00:26:13
Speaker
Maybe you know the strategies and you know you should be doing something.
00:26:18
Speaker
These are the handcuffs that
Visualization and Positive Outcome Focus
00:26:19
Speaker
So another tool I like is the visualization of
00:26:25
Speaker
what the outcome on a positive note would be.
00:26:28
Speaker
So we talked about the negative side, visualizing what's the worst that could happen, right?
00:26:34
Speaker
And coming up with a logical solution for that and thinking of an example of somebody who flipped that into a positive.
00:26:39
Speaker
The inverse is also true.
00:26:41
Speaker
You can also visualize and wire your mind with the positive outcome.
00:26:47
Speaker
So instead of viewing what's the worst that can happen at the door,
00:26:51
Speaker
I think of the best.
00:26:53
Speaker
And the easiest way to do this is very simple.
00:26:56
Speaker
Think of a scenario that is similar.
00:27:00
Speaker
If it's new, right?
00:27:01
Speaker
Let's say that you've never knocked doors and you're scared to knock on your first door.
00:27:05
Speaker
Think of a scenario to where you did something.
00:27:08
Speaker
You asked somebody for something and they said yes and you didn't think they would say yes.
00:27:13
Speaker
Think about that situation, right?
00:27:15
Speaker
Or if you have knocked doors, think about when you knocked on a door and somebody invited you in and you ended up closing the deal the same day or something like that.
00:27:23
Speaker
How did that feel?
00:27:24
Speaker
And then feel that feeling in your body.
00:27:26
Speaker
What is it like, right?
00:27:28
Speaker
How does it feel, that feeling of confidence and surety, feeling great, those endorphin rushes that's coming in, right?
00:27:35
Speaker
After you make a big sale, anything like that, visualize what that feeling is like, right?
00:27:42
Speaker
And then you correlate it with the new position, the new thought.
00:27:47
Speaker
So let's say I want to rewire my fear of rejection at the doors.
00:27:51
Speaker
I think about knocking that door before I go there.
00:27:54
Speaker
And then instead of feeling the pit in my stomach, I feel and force that feeling of certainty, confidence, that endorphin rush.
00:28:03
Speaker
And I actually feel what is that like instead?
00:28:06
Speaker
What you're going to notice is your body can actually feel that feeling.
00:28:11
Speaker
as if you just completed the activity and it just achieved that reward, that chemical rush, right?
00:28:17
Speaker
By doing this and consistently repeating these thoughts before you go do the activity, you're going to find that maybe it's not gone all the way, but the level of that fear of rejection is down significantly because your body's now replaced the different feeling there.
00:28:35
Speaker
Some very crazy psychological stuff going on here, but it comes down to repetition.
00:28:41
Speaker
There's been a couple of studies on this.
00:28:44
Speaker
I can't remember who did.
00:28:44
Speaker
I think it was Cambridge, actually.
00:28:46
Speaker
Cambridge did a study on this where they took two students, right?
00:28:50
Speaker
And they basically took two subjects and they hooked them up to all their brain machines and scanners and whatnot and monitored all the waves and the things going on there.
00:28:58
Speaker
And what they did is student one, they told them to practice the piano for two hours a day.
00:29:03
Speaker
Oh, yeah, this is good.
00:29:25
Speaker
the same time, same inputs for two hours a day.
00:29:28
Speaker
The only difference is they had them sit at the piano bench and not play the keys, not play the piano and actually play them in their mind.
00:29:37
Speaker
So they visualized actually playing those keys.
00:29:41
Speaker
What happened, it wasn't an exact replica, but within a 10% difference,
00:29:46
Speaker
The person who played the piano and the person who visualized playing the piano almost had the exact same circuits wired in their brain, the same neuron networks, and the brain literally couldn't tell the difference between the two.
00:29:59
Speaker
I know it sounds crazy if you guys haven't heard this, but I'm actually a personal example of this.
00:30:04
Speaker
I used to play trumpet all the time when I was in high school.
00:30:07
Speaker
I did all these competitions and whatnot, and I would consistently practice trumpet in my mind during school classes, actually, like during math tests and whatnot, and I would actually visualize playing it, and I was able to really practice and improve at my craft this way.
00:30:22
Speaker
And the same thing, guys, can be applied to you.
00:30:28
Speaker
Visualize that perfect door approach.
00:30:31
Speaker
what it feels like and repeat it in your mind and practice it.
00:30:35
Speaker
And when you go to it, it's now going to be repetition.
00:30:38
Speaker
You're just going to be following through with the motions because you know what's going to happen.
00:30:42
Speaker
You know what it feels like.
00:30:44
Speaker
Combine that with the income producing habits, the numbness to rejection, the lowered ego.
00:30:52
Speaker
Like all-star solar professional at this point.
00:30:55
Speaker
Solar sales machine, dude, at that point.
00:31:00
Speaker
Yeah, another thing about the visualization, right?
00:31:04
Speaker
Have you guys ever worried yourself sick?
00:31:07
Speaker
Or have heard of someone else who's stressed so much
00:31:10
Speaker
and just thought their way of the worst case scenarios and then became sick because of that.
00:31:15
Speaker
In that same way, how you can induce sickness by thinking about the negative, you can flip it from the other side.
00:31:21
Speaker
If you think so much about the positive and focus all about the outcome, about what positive experience you will have by taking this certain action,
00:31:30
Speaker
You can create the good feelings from that and promote your health, promote your mental, or you can enhance your mental ability, right?
00:31:39
Speaker
And just wire your brain in a certain way that wouldn't be wired there before.
00:31:44
Speaker
So it's like one of the secrets to this visualization and why it works is because most people visualize the worst case scenario.
00:31:51
Speaker
It's natural to do that.
00:31:52
Speaker
It's human to do that.
00:31:54
Speaker
But what will separate you from everyone else and help you become that top producer is by visualizing what success looks like.
00:32:01
Speaker
And most people don't do that because they're like, oh, it's not going to happen or it's so far away.
00:32:05
Speaker
Literally, guys, if you start imagining what success looks like or what that perfect door knocking pitch would feel like after you complete it and get that appointment for five houses in a row,
00:32:17
Speaker
what you do is you wire your brain differently than if you thought that everyone's gonna slam the door in your face.
00:32:22
Speaker
So you begin to create new neural networks that you didn't have before and that's literally how you change your behavior.
00:32:29
Speaker
And that's how you change the outcomes of your life.
00:32:32
Speaker
Like if you guys keep thinking about the negative, you're going to attract the negative.
00:32:35
Speaker
I'm sure like when you've heard the saying like when it rains it pours, it's because your brain automatically searches and looks for things that are similar, right?
00:32:42
Speaker
That's the law of attraction at work.
00:32:44
Speaker
I know it's some crazy deep psychological stuff, but literally that's what happens.
00:32:49
Speaker
But if that's true, right, if it rains at pours, I don't know what the opposite saying would be.
00:32:54
Speaker
But literally if you start thinking about success, you're going to attract that in your life.
00:32:58
Speaker
And it's because of that visualization, it's because you're changing the neural networks in your brain to open up new pathways, to have new behaviors, and to have different outcomes because of those behaviors.
00:33:09
Speaker
So that's why like visualization is so key with positive thinking.
00:33:13
Speaker
It's not just positive thinking.
00:33:14
Speaker
It's like literally rewiring your brain so that you can have that success, like just pre-wired so that you know what's going to happen already.
00:33:23
Speaker
And it's just like you've already done it before.
00:33:25
Speaker
And it's just like practice over and over and over again.
00:33:27
Speaker
And that's like the key to becoming numb to something.
00:33:31
Speaker
And that's the key to overcoming any fear.
00:33:33
Speaker
Like the only reason why you fear something is because it's unknown.
00:33:37
Speaker
But if you knew the outcome of every single action you're going to take, why would you ever fear anything?
00:33:42
Speaker
So it's just that habit.
00:33:43
Speaker
It's that discipline to wrap it all up again.
Implementing Sales Strategies
00:33:45
Speaker
Yeah, guys, this is next level stuff.
00:33:49
Speaker
This is honestly the key on what I had to overcome.
00:33:53
Speaker
And I'm consistently reviewing these things, but it's taking me out of every sales slump I've ever gotten into.
00:34:00
Speaker
I've been through a lot of sales slumps in my life where I'm just killing it.
00:34:04
Speaker
Something bad happens.
00:34:06
Speaker
Something happens I wasn't expecting.
00:34:08
Speaker
Boom, I go two, three months with no sales.
00:34:11
Speaker
This stuff right here, dialing in the habits and the visualizations, this is what gets you,
00:34:16
Speaker
out of the gutter, guys.
00:34:17
Speaker
Take a hard look at this episode.
00:34:19
Speaker
Review this episode.
00:34:20
Speaker
These concepts will change your life for the better, guys.
00:34:24
Speaker
It's changed my life, every area of my life.
00:34:28
Speaker
Just insane stuff.
00:34:29
Speaker
Joseph and I have been just diving in deep with this, and we're passionate about sharing it with you guys and the opportunity we have to teach it to you.

Speaker
And I think you can tell from the level of this podcast, how detailed and in depth this content will be.
00:35:47
Speaker
That's enough for the sales pitch guys.
00:35:49
Speaker
Joseph, do you have any final thoughts here before we sign off?
00:35:53
Speaker
Final thoughts on this, guys, like one of our students that went through the Solar Spartan system, his name's Eric, right?
00:35:59
Speaker
Zero sales for the first three months in the solar industry, right?
00:36:06
Speaker
And as soon as he joined the Solar Spartan system,
00:36:09
Speaker
This guy made nine sales, closed nine deals within the first 30 days of joining the system with no prior experience.
00:36:18
Speaker
This guy is crazy.
00:36:20
Speaker
He owes it all to the system, and we worked so hard to do it.
00:36:24
Speaker
He's one of our best students, one of our best case studies.
00:36:27
Speaker
But if he can do it, you guys can definitely do it.
00:36:30
Speaker
We've been working so hard on that.
00:36:32
Speaker
Think about the three months, right?
00:36:34
Speaker
To go back to that, maybe you're going through three months right now.
00:36:38
Speaker
That's a prime example of a down cycle, right?
00:36:41
Speaker
Focusing on negative.
00:36:42
Speaker
And the less sales you make over the more time, the more consistent it's going to be.
00:36:48
Speaker
And the more consistent, the more your brain's going to feel normal.
00:36:51
Speaker
It's gonna literally say, ah, it's normal to not make sales.
00:36:55
Speaker
This is why you get guys that go forever.
00:36:57
Speaker
I went six months, and I'm sure you guys have heard that episode.
00:37:00
Speaker
I went six months without making a freaking sale.
00:37:05
Speaker
And it's because of this.
00:37:06
Speaker
I was focused on the negative.
00:37:07
Speaker
My brain developed the habit to where I was literally self-sabotaging my ability to make sales.
00:37:14
Speaker
So what we did with Eric is we helped him figure out what those income-producing habits are, how to lower the ego,
00:37:21
Speaker
Numb is rejection, right?
00:37:22
Speaker
Use visualizations and other things taught in the Spartan system to flip him out of that down cycle and boom, skyrocket his sails.
00:37:29
Speaker
It's going to be amazing to see what that guy accomplishes in the coming years as well.
00:37:33
Speaker
Okay, guys, that is it.
00:37:36
Speaker
for today's episode.
00:37:38
Speaker
