Introduction & Disclaimer

Ksera Dyette, Psy.D. (she/her)
Hi everyone, Dr. Dyette here, the anti-ableist doc, and one of your co-hosts of the Called to Healing podcast, with a little disclaimer regarding episode 5, which is on the feed today. It is all about our relationship to caring for ourselves as mental health practitioners, or colloquially known as self-care by the masses.

Inspiration & Conflict

Ksera Dyette, Psy.D. (she/her)
The inspiration for this episode was a post by pat.radical.therapist on Instagram, and we recorded this episode almost four months ago now. Why this is relevant is there has been a major conflict or a rupture, whatever you want to call it, between Pat and Dr. Jennifer Mullan that showed up in a very public way on the Instagram decolonizing community.

Public Conflict Reactions

00:00:58
Ksera Dyette, Psy.D. (she/her)
For those of you who follow the decolonizing community on Instagram, you may have seen it, have opinions of it, and even may want to know what we think about it. Our only, quote, public opinion on this matter that the whole thing is deeply unfortunate, and we regret that both parties involved could not find a way to rectify the situation privately.

Impact on Community

Ksera Dyette, Psy.D. (she/her)
As two people of the global majority hosting a liberation grounded podcast, we don't want to pile on to this, especially as it concerns two black folks who have their own stories to tell to their communities and to themselves.

We do have many thoughts just about these kinds of situations in general and the ways they impact what is a very sacred and also a fragile community. Fragile in the sense that the impacts of colonization wyt supremacy are ever present on our doorstep.

Future Plans & Sign Off

We alluded to these challenges in other episodes, in spaces that are meant for us, but maybe aren't once we experience them, and we had already planned to discuss these issues more for both our Patreon subscribers and possibly for a future episode.

We hold sacred all the feelings people witnessing the situation have had or are having, including wishes for healing and liberation for those involved. Thanks for hearing those thoughts, and we hope you enjoy episode five.
