In this episode, Ken Freire and Patrick Lowndes walk through a simple but powerful practice of starting your workday with intentional prayer, helping you move from reactive faith to proactive dependence on God. Using passages from Ephesians and Proverbs, they model how to pray Scripture into your work life so you can show up with wisdom, integrity, and a kingdom mindset.

Ken Freire

The Role of Prayer in Daily Life

00:00:18
Ken Freire
I'm Ken Freda here with Patrick Louds, and today we're talking about Monday morning prayer, or afternoon, depending on where you're listening to this.
00:00:28
Ken Freire
Patrick, why we deciding to talk about morning prayer?
00:00:28
Patrick
That's right.
00:00:32
Patrick
Well, sometimes when we walk into our job on Monday morning, I meet more and more people that are like, oh, like spending time with God at the end of the day, like at night. Like that's cool, except sometimes you like between Sunday night and Monday morning, you forget.
00:00:47
Patrick
And like your heart's not ready. It's not tender. It's not maybe listening to God as well, like tuned in with his spirit. So we just want to take a second here and tell you, here's just a couple small little ways of how you can pray.
00:01:00
Patrick
And then also we're going to make this episode short, little shorter

Developing a Proactive Prayer Routine

00:01:03
Patrick
than normal. So you can get in there and pray yourself for the workplace that you're stepping into today.
00:01:09
Ken Freire
Absolutely, and you may be listening to this on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, whatever day it is that you end up watching this. I want you to take this as a pattern of learning how to pray. And that's some of the stuff we're gonna do, because you may be like, I don't even know how to start my day.
00:01:22
Ken Freire
And you just kind of are praying reactive versus being proactive about your

Walking in Love and Wisdom

00:01:27
Ken Freire
prayers. And Patrick and I both love the Word of God. We want to read the Word of God.
00:01:31
Ken Freire
So we'll start today with, here's a certain passages that have been really hitting home for us this season, and then going to pray into those. So Patrick, how about you go first to kind of give these people who are listening in a way that we're praying for them and how be praying.
00:01:46
Patrick
Yeah, sure. Awesome. No, I love it. Let's go to Ephesians 5, and I'm in the ESV, starting in verse 1. It says, And then it goes on and kind of talks about all the ways that we should walk in love. But in particular, just love how it gets into of verse 15.
00:02:05
Patrick
Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise, but as wise in making the most of the time. Or in other translations, it says making the most of every opportunity because the days are evil. And so, Lord, we just turn to you. We take this conversation we're having horizontally and we turn it vertically.

Embodying God's Love at Work

00:02:22
Patrick
to you. even speak, thank you that you're in us and you're with us here in the office as we're walking in, or maybe virtually a lot of us, or maybe just logging into our virtual remote environments. God, show us today how we can walk in wisdom and how we can walk in this love, that we could be imitators of God. We could be, again, rooted in our identity in you, because Lord, our identity in you forms us and shapes us and how we want to show up today. So our colleagues, when they interact with us, our teammates, when they interact with us, they would feel just like they've had a small little encounter with you, Lord, which is a very humbling thing to ask because we know so many times we pull people away or we just parrot the way of the world. So Lord, show us and teach us how we can be imitators of you and walk in love today as wise, making the most of every opportunity,
00:03:13
Patrick
because we know that these days are getting darker and darker in so many ways. So show us how to be the light and that it draws people into truth and draws people into admiring what you're like as we're imitating you because the way you've loved us. So help us walk today in that.

Seeking Balance Through Faith

00:03:31
Ken Freire
And guys, as you're listening to this, I just want you to see something that Patrick did. He was just praying the passage to himself and making it applicable. And I'm going to pray for you guys as well and pray for myself. But I want you to take this and really say, Lord, what's in it for me? And if you need to pause this so that you can pray and not get distracted by our voices, that's way more important.
00:03:52
Ken Freire
So make sure you that.
00:03:53
Patrick
yeah
00:03:53
Ken Freire
But I'm going to pray for us in the same thing. Lord, Father, we just come before you. We thank you for the goodness that we children of God, that we can be children of God.
00:04:03
Patrick
yeah
00:04:04
Ken Freire
And you call this to imitate you. And right now in this really dark and scary world that we see turmoil upon turmoil everywhere.
00:04:15
Ken Freire
We don't know what to do sometimes, but your word has said that we be light in a dark and depraved world, and that's what we want to do, Lord.
00:04:20
Patrick
Yeah.
00:04:23
Patrick
Yes.
00:04:23
Ken Freire
Let us be light. Give us the courage. Give us the boldness. Give us the grace to continue to do that in this depraved generation. And Father, ask that you would help us share that with ourselves and our family, Lord, that we have hope.
00:04:38
Ken Freire
in you and and that we can be joyful in you lord and uh we're not worried because we know you father in jesus name we pray amen
00:04:39
Patrick
Yeah. Thank you.
00:04:47
Patrick
Yeah. Amen. All right, Ken, you want to give us another verse? This time I think you're coming out of Proverbs. And

Integrity and Stewardship in Work

00:04:54
Ken Freire
yep
00:04:54
Patrick
we'll just do one more verse, and then we'll wrap up the pod here short so you guys can jump in and do your own Monday morning prayer or whatever time of the week it is.
00:05:02
Patrick
Go ahead, Ken.
00:05:02
Ken Freire
Yeah. So one of things, you know, as people who are working, sometimes we have mixed desires of why we're doing what we're doing. So I like to find passages that reorient me back to God.
00:05:15
Ken Freire
And this is one of those. It's found in Proverbs 30, verses 7 through 9. He says, two things I ask of you, don't deny them to me before I die.
00:05:21
Patrick
Thank
00:05:26
Ken Freire
Keep falsehood and deceitful words far from me. Give me neither poverty nor wealth. Feed me with the food I need. Otherwise, I might have too much and deny you, saying, Who is the Lord?
00:05:38
Ken Freire
Or I might have nothing and steal, profaning the name of my God. So Father, I just pray this right now for myself and for all the people who are listening to this, that you would give us neither poverty nor wealth, that we would be so poor that we would profane your name, or that we would be so wealthy that we would forget about you.
00:05:57
Ken Freire
Reorient our desires to be more about you, God.
00:05:57
Patrick
Yeah. Hmm.
00:06:00
Ken Freire
Like it says in Philippians 3, that we would consider everything rubbish to the surpassing greatness of knowing you, Christ Jesus. that our lives would be so enamored, so focused on you, that we're not worried about...
00:06:15
Ken Freire
poverty or wealth. We're just trusting in you that you feed the birds and you clothe the lilies. You're also going to take care of us today.
00:06:24
Ken Freire
Let us not worry about tomorrow because tomorrow has enough worries on its own. But let us just trust in your word. Let us just trust in you and keep seeking you. And everything that we do would glorify your name in Jesus name.
00:06:37
Patrick
Yeah.

Incorporating Morning Prayer

00:06:38
Patrick
Lord, I love how it says, keep falsehood and lies far from me. God, let us be people of integrity today. That whatever, again, whatever we're working on a project, whether we're working on a new product or service or dealing with customers, Lord, help us be people of integrity. And that that would be like, again, like a pleasing aroma to the marketplace today. that they would just, again, feel this presence that is, it's not that we are like more holy or we're taking a higher ground or it's about us or anything like that, but it's rather we're demonstrating better way, a better kingdom, Lord, than just the ways of this world, which might ask us to cut or cheat or cut corners. And Lord, I pray that we'd also, again, just have that posture of as a steward, Lord, we've already been made rich because of what you've done through us in Christ. And I pray that our true security and treasure and provision would be from you and not just from the job that we have or trying to get to the next level or trying to close that commission. We thank that you will provide for us, but show us how to steward that well today. In Jesus' name, amen.
00:07:38
Ken Freire
Amen, amen, amen.
00:07:38
Patrick
There we go. Thank you, Ken, for that verse. So as you guys are going into your day, we call this Monday morning prayer. The challenge for you is, can you pray something like this each morning before you jump into your, again, whether it's an office or a morning commute, some of us are just going to just, like me, just jump in here to the home office and you open up your device. Let's just pray that God forms us today. Ken, any other final thoughts on this topic of prayer?
00:08:04
Ken Freire
Yeah, I alluded to it earlier, but I just want you guys to start being more proactive. You know, think many times when we pray at night and I'm like this too, right? Where I was like, I would just pray at night. It's like very reactive about the day where you're like, I'm praying for all the things that happen and asking for forgiveness. But when you start doing it in the morning, it's like you're preparing yourself.
00:08:26
Patrick
Yeah.
00:08:26
Ken Freire
for what God has for you and, and a focus of what you want the day to look like. And now you're not doing it your strength.
00:08:32
Patrick
That's right.
00:08:33
Ken Freire
You're doing it with God's power and provision.
00:08:36
Patrick
That's right. So now it's your turn. We made this short on purpose. You have at least five or six minutes because you usually budget 15 to 20 to listen to this. We're going to land the plane here just so you can take off with the Lord in prayer. Join with him today and let that prayer arise to the Lord and change the way you show up.
00:08:53
Patrick
Thank you guys. We'll catch you next time on Buried Talent.
