Speaker: Hello? This is Mole Man in the morning. Good Mole Man to you. we Welcome to Mo -Man in the Morning! Hey, hey, hey! Good Mo -Man to ya! Whoa. old man got his own comedy show well you know christy It's about time.

Speaker: I think I've done that one before, to be honest. We've had crusty episodes before. so And I'm fairly certain. That was the... That was the infamous Fat Albert episode. but Hey hey hey!

Speaker: Good moment to you. Do you know Fat Albert dies at the end of his movie? Well, he is very grotesquely obese, though. I'm not that shot.

Speaker: Corpulent is the word. When you sweat butter, it's not good. That's a great insult, isn't it? To call someone corpulent. It's one of my favourite words that I've ever seen in literature because it so accurately describes...

Speaker: an unpleasant fat man. Who's Fat Albert? Is this someone I should know? It's just a... character in america i think fowl but appeared appeared in one of the episodes of Simpsons, didn't it?

Speaker: Did I? He's been spoofed in at least one. yeah Yeah. Okay. Well, it's not like The Simpsons to make an obscure reference. No. Let's get off the Fat Albert train because we're going to dive into the world of Bill Cosby, which probably isn't a good thing for this podcast. well i would have said from fat albert to fat tony but okay oh look at that segment Hey.

Speaker: But before we get there, we are More Man in the Morning. We are a podcast about how The Simpsons has a lot to say about society. I am your host, John, and I am joined as ever by my... I was going to say comedic. book as I think I've used that one before. I thought you were going to say corpulent as well. Sure, my two corpulents. That feels rude now. Come on, I can't call you that. We've just been over how rude that is. My two...

Speaker: Uh... Scien - co -hosts Michael. Ad leho, Podcasterino. and Matt. Que sera, sera, whatever will be, will be.

Speaker: Honestly, I think we should apologise to the audience for their wait between episodes. We've been watching the World Cup. but No, never apologize. Never apologize. I mean, what I can say is really, like, considering um last week's Fantastic!

Speaker: Terrible. Mediocre. episodes that uh i think you know this one's also going to be a an interesting one Absolutely. Yeah. ah are we doing a peek behind the curtain explaining what the hell has happened with the podcast or now forging on and like let him deal with it that' landing with it We had the audience work it out for themselves.

Speaker: the hogs get what they get and they get podcasts when they get podcasts that's the mole man promise Boom. And Arnie comes out at some point. ah at this point slightly more often than mole man in the morning potentially oh no Oh no. Look, we have to watch Jordan, and Algeria at 4 a .m. Leave us alone.

Speaker: Yeah. I think you are the only person that was watching the World Cup, Michael. Ah. I'm shocked. it I couldn't give less of a shit. oh we're out now so I don't give a shit Yeah, we lost to Argentina.

Speaker: Yeah, I mean, the reality is that... Yeah, I already saw, like, ah a fucking Telegraph article saying, the 29 dirty tricks Argentina played to win. It's like, fuck off. We're England. we We are known for a dirty tricks. Have you seen how English teams play? Fuck off.

Speaker: I like our natural unbiased of male media. Yeah. Yeah, we deserve to lose. Let's live with it folks.

Speaker: ah I mean, I'm always lightly rooting against England just because England fans are insufferable when they win. but I mean, admittedly. Football fans are insufferable when they win. That is true. That is true. I didn't want to be singing It's Coming Home on Sunday. You monster. Yeah.

Speaker: Like, I get that the rowing thing was cute. But fuck off with that shit. or your natural hatred for my the norwegians No, i i see I couldn't give a shit who won the fucking football. i'd like It's just, it was funny once, and then they just started doing it in public spaces, and I could just imagine there was at least one person that was like, can I get to work, please?

Speaker: You are in my fucking way. I realise you're now banned from Valhalla. Shit.

Speaker: as i might the The most I'm really aware of the... of the World Cup is just the memes about the hydration breaks that have been doing around. that that That's it. I saw Count Binface made a joke about it. That was funny. Yep, so did he we'll be taking a hydration break about an hour into the podcast just so the... Un pausa de hidratación, yes. So the... yeah Me on these, I'd complain.

Speaker: Mm -hmm.

Speaker: But in order to get to a break, we probably have to talk about some episodes to get there first. So we will be talking about season six, episode 14 and 15, which are Bart's Comet and Homie the Clown.

Speaker: Ooh. Yeah, Homey the k Clown's are one of those ones that... Like. Yeah, i I didn't realize I knew as well as I did. home with clown i think of as being a pretty noteworthy and famous episode but um yeah to to shoot my load early as it were like one balance like weirdly i liked i liked the uh the Bart's Comet a bit more, I think. Ooh, okay.

Speaker: I will get that, but I... I'll just play my logic on the guitar. Yeah, this is this isn't the Arnie podcast where we say what we thought about the thing before it even starts. This is the Simpsons podcast where we wait and ruin people's day. let matt really hate haven't given I haven't given my out of Homer score. Come on. Matt usually gives his score if he really hates the episode or it's Lisa based.

Speaker: Shut up, Lisa. She was very annoying in one of them anyway Before we talk about any of that, we need to work out what we're drinking today. What's everyone got in their glasses? I ah actually did... Fuckin'...

Speaker: Get nice beard. Well, I say nice. I haven't tasted it yet I went, i i own business I splurged and got something unique and fancy. And I think i've I might also... Please.

Speaker: John with this one, with it being a little more... um quirky. I got... him I got Le Chef. But I didn't just get Le Cherf because I got two bottles because they're fucking tiny.

Speaker: Um, I got Le Chef Blond. But then I also got, and it's the first one I'm going to be drinking, Le Chef Cherry. Ooh. And you all know my ah feelings about fruity beers. So...

Speaker: still Let's have a taste. They're Belgian, aren't they fairly strong? I think they're like 8 -9 % or something like that, aren't they? That's lovely, that. In my head, I'm like, it's probably... so Yeah, it's 8%.

Speaker: You say percent, but the bottle's tiny. Yeah. Like the bottle is like ah not that much bigger than my fist I think their standard's like 3... The one I'm able to find is 3 .30, so it's the size of a can, right? a small can Yeah, 3 .30. It's actually quite nice though.

Speaker: I like it. I would drink that again. Matt's on two 8 % beers. God help us all. Yeah, you're all fucked. He's gonna be This is gonna be a four -hour episode Michael, where you going? Because tomorrow it is the social calendar of my workplace of work.

Speaker: And if I turn up for that drunk. An international incident will probably happen. I am drinking a Dr Pepper. Oh, you... Okay. I mean, you don't have to drink the same as Matt, but you know, you do you.

Speaker: yeah so if i've got to direct people into a public setting tomorrow so if i'm If I'm hungover, that might be slightly problematic. I was really confused when you said social calendar. I thought that meant that that was like The like everyone goes out for a drink after work No, it's... um without giving too much away if you work one works in education what would be the highlight of ah education.

Speaker: or the ending event. Okay. Yeah. People are now Googling me. John, what are you drinking? Yeah. Googling guy who works in education to see if they can find Michael somewhere. There might be a few Michaels.

Speaker: I have got a and another beer from Neon Raptor. The last... beer that I shared on the Arnie podcast was a Neon Raptor. Oh, bear.

Speaker: This one is called a button masher. You didn't like the one you had during Arnie, did you? I bought them at the same time, so I wasn't assessing this one based on the merits of the first. No, I know. I was just saying, I vaguely recall you not liking it.

Speaker: But I could be. Yeah, it was fine it wasn't great i think Um, Honestly, I think Probably similar on this one. Yeah, fair enough. It is a 6 % New England IPA. It's...

Speaker: Okay, both of them are being sold on the merits of their branding. which is to say me a guy who used to run uh an event called button mash and who does now a podcast about Arnold Schwarzenegger, was absolutely going to buy two beers off the shelf called Button Masher and... and one called Terminator. Terminator.

Speaker: I'm proud of you. Yep. Neon Raptor... No, I... I have a... i don't know i thought better of them like i had them in my head as being like a pretty decent brew but i had two very mid beers from them now so i probably won't be returning to them terribly often.

Speaker: but Oh well. That's what I'm drinking. It's fine. It's okay. It's probably just my not my not my kind of thing, I guess, really. Anyway. Sentence. Bounce.

Speaker: Comet! is an episode which aired on February 5th, 1995.

Speaker: fuck Now what happened on this day? Ugh! Well... I'm not alone. If I'm honest.

Speaker: Japan's Shinshuto Party won the local elections. Good for them or bad for them depending on what their policies are I hope. No idea about... of japanese politics particularly at all so all i know is that like currently The...

Speaker: I don't know if it's the president i don't know what it's called in japan but the like leader of japan or one of the leaders of Japan recently that got elected is a woman that is quite right -leaning.

Speaker: And that's all I know. yeah yeah my understanding of Japanese politics is yes fairly conservative but like that is literally the extent of it The Shinshinto party were... the New Progressive Party, a big tent political party,

Speaker: I note... Past tense here, they dissolved in 1997. It goes well with them, doesn't it? Yeah, membership ranging from... Social Democrats to liberals and conservatives.

Speaker: Yeah, they lasted presumably two years after the election. Social Democrats, liberals, conservatives, it's like, oh, we just have a party that welcomes fucking everybody. I think that was kind of the idea, yes. And this is why it failed. Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah, because they can agree on anything. Yeah, probably. I'm not going to get into the weeds of Japanese politics right now. Did anything else happen, Michael? Nope.

Speaker: Alright, fair enough. What were the what were the the number ones? Right, so the US number one is... Creep by TLC. Created by TLC, not - by Radiohead. Is it a cover or? Hmm.

Speaker: Don't know. I'm not. I've heard of TLC but I don't remember the song Creep if I'm honest. yes Yeah, same. And I know the Radiohead version. I don't know another creep, so... But, well, the reason I asked for that if it's a cover is because... like they you know that song has been Yeah. Fucking COVID, you know? Yeah, yeah. Potentially.

Speaker: The UK number one is... Think Twice by Celine Dion. Again, I'm not familiar with that. I like Celine Dion too.

Speaker: It is not a cover. It does not appear to be, now no, no. see we're learning on this podcast i'm learning about i'm learning about tlc on the fly the japanese political system This is a podcast of culture.

Speaker: The first and only podcast to Google things on the fly, for sure. Shall I go to Bud's Comet then? Let's have a look at that action an episode, shall we? Okay, so a blackboard gag.

Speaker: Cursive writing does not mean what I think it does. They're going to chuckle out at me. I never made that association. No. No, because I think I'd heard the word...

Speaker: Cursive? Before I'd heard curs - Calling it cursing is a very American thing. yeah We call it swearing. I don't think many people in England call it...

Speaker: Cursing. so I also don't yeah think we particularly call it cursive, do we? We just just just joined up writing, right? Do you know, I think you're right, yeah, because I... I called it joined up. as I think they called it cursive.

Speaker: Like the grown -ups called it cursive, but I don't give a shit what they said. I mean... Did you guys get a certificate if you could do it? I don't remember gang. No? But that's because I never learned.

Speaker: Yeah, in Millbridge. my primary school, if you could like... Successfully... do cursive you got a little stick a certificate and you were allowed to write with a pen Instead of a a pencil.

Speaker: But yeah, I couldn't do it. And then... Halfway through secondary school... My English teacher, Mr. Stewart... told me one of the reasons I was like,

Speaker: getting really crap grades in my like Homework was because no one could read it. Incredible. So he told me to stop writing in cursive, so I did, and then my grades shot up.

Speaker: and I genuinely, like, moved up. um Classes.

Speaker: because yeah i don't think i had like the same like it impacted how people could read it but like i definitely had the same realization sort of mid -height high school secondary school whatever um that like if i didn't write in joined up writing it was just a lot more legible and i was like this is just better why why did they teach me to do this because like In primary school, like, oh, this is how we're teaching you to write. You're going to learn to write with joined up writing. and i was like i just That. This seems weird, but okay. This is what we're being taught, I guess. um And then, like...

Speaker: Nobody does that. Once you get into, like, anywhere close to a grown -up world, nobody writes with... but with i I think Cursive did. die with the millennials if there's anything boomers were right that you know, The damn kids killed it. It's cursive. I don't think many... more i Because I know my parents...

Speaker: I know my mum. used to write in cursive all the time. But... Yeah, millennials? Nah, fuck that. weirdly though like in going down ah you know this rabbit hole ah for the episode obviously. Like, I have gotten into handwriting stuff a lot more, particularly since doing podcasting, because I handwrite all my notes.

Speaker: There's a study that says you, your brain... lights up in unique ways. when you write by hand that don't happen when you write any other way but and so it it it is mentally healthy to...

Speaker: Right. physically. So, like... that I have sticky notes now that if I need to remember something, I write them on a sticky note. And I just stick that note to my desk. So yeah, obviously I've got like a note physically in front of me. mmm buh the physical act of writing.

Speaker: is a is like genuinely really healthy. Yeah, didn't know that.

Speaker: Yeah, it's it's yeah know it's good. I'll try and find the study, folks. I think you'll find it interesting. i mean I've just found I quite like doing it. As a kid, I was like, oh, I've got to write things. like Now that I'm a grown -up and I can decide what I enjoy for myself, I'm like, you know what? Writing's pretty rad. I'd like this. I've got myself a couple of nice fountain pens, and I write all my notes by hand, and I take the a effort to write a lot of stuff by hand now. And all of a sudden, now I'm like, maybe I should learn joined -up writing again. I feel like you should be the face of a campaign for literacy where you go, writing is rad. Still doing a thumbs up.

Speaker: how do you do fellow kids writing is rad for a baseball cap on backwards I think... ah Just as my last thing I'll say on it, because obviously tangents and shit. But I think a lot of that stuff is a response to anti -corporate and anti -AI sentiment. oh yeah ah Almost certainly there's an element of that in there yeah as well, for sure. Yeah.

Speaker: no There you go, kids. AI sucks. You all know it sucks. Rebel against the robots. Get yourself a fountain pen. I mean I won't go that far, just get a fucking pencil. Meh. That depends on nice.

Speaker: No, I love the - I love the sound of - ah pencil scratching. against paper. It's one of the best sounds. I can't make a segue out of this, dammit. Okay, we're 18 minutes in and we've got to the chalkboard gag. Let's go. Just skip to the couch gag. The couch gag is a 1930s Disney style.

Speaker: Big eyes. This creeped me the fuck out. Really? Yeah, I didn't like it. There was something about it that was very unpleasant.

Speaker: This was... What was this based on? This is like a style of... Steamboat. It's It's like Mickey Mouse. Early Mickey Mouse kind of thing, isn't it? yeah Well, it's it's noted as being Fleischer Studios, which was actually a competitor to Disney in the 20s and 30s. So it actually kind of like is a company. like, competing with Steamboat Willing? There is a name for the style that I've i've heard, because i um someone brought it up.

Speaker: when reviewing that rat detective. shooter game that came out you know like the doom the boomer shooter but it everything's in that visual style there is a name for that it's called it's something it's like noodle Like something like that. Hmm.

Speaker: but i can't remember the specific but there is a word for it like the the style has a word But yeah, I didn't like it. Creep me out. yeah It's a bit weird. It still creeps me out now. jet If I watched any of those cartoons, I'm a bit like, I don't like the way you move.

Speaker: Hmph. Hmm. You clearly have no bones. Yeah, I mean, yeah I guess it's just the eyes, but it puts me in mind of whenever they do like... japanese mascots on the simpsons which we'll get to yeah at some point but yeah there yeah ho for that So, the episode begins with the Springfield School Science Fair.

Speaker: Pittsburgh Skinners in his lab coat and safety glasses and uh In order to top off the most propane explosion -free signs we gather, Hank Hill would be proud. I fucking love that bit. That was so good. We're going to launch a weather balloon, which the kids are happy, but no one's happier than Bart because he says... Go have a balloon! Hurrah for science! Woo!

Speaker: what did he He says, um, the hurrah was a bit much, but I... No, it's the other way around. So it's going to go... Yeah, the woo was... I don't approve of the woo, but the hurrah was quite heartening. Yeah, I like... i

Speaker: God, I love Skinner. Skinner, like... straight up number one i love skin yeah no it's a good subversion because you're like oh he's suspicious that bart is enthused about science he's like no he's just like oh it's too much it's too old on skinner So Willie releases the balloon and the kids are cheering and then Bart pulls a little string that he's got attached and the flaps come down to reveal.

Speaker: But Skinner's head and arms are there and he's holding up the sign of I'm Big Butt Skinner. The kids laugh. Skinner goes Darth Vader and he goes, no. No. yeah it was a proper proper um James Earl Jones we got a few of those out of him this episode as well a lot of them there's a bit as a whole There we go. So.

Speaker: Skinner chases after it and Bart says he doesn't really capture the eyes and Milhouse points out I love Skinner's shitty little hops. As he's chasing it, he's going - Hup! It's like. Dude, we - What are you doing? He's trying to dodge it.

Speaker: So. Bart says he hasn't captured the eyes and Milhouse's response to this is that Bart has a failing. that He's always demanding perfection. But that's only if he has they thought but as a failing. Skinner tells the kids that anyone that brings down the balloon doesn't have to learn fractions, so this prompts the kids to start throwing rocks at it. I didn't mind learning fractions, I hated learning to Like.

Speaker: use them in equations. Yeah, I could never do it. Like when like when they were like... What is... Two quarters. minus one third. I was like, nope. I'm good. I'm alright.

Speaker: you know, begins to panic that ah the rocks are actually starting to hit his car. This, uh, after he points this out, Nelson Jim will just throw the rocks directly at his car. Yep. This prompts Skinner to tell Willy to destroy the balloon very ominously.

Speaker: And Willy pulls out a shotgun that he just happens to have on him and fires into the air. Of course. Of course. at the same time Two jet pilots are flying past and uh... they report that they're being flied on and uh Try to get an exact idea using the... Sona?

Speaker: And the whole scene has so much to say. Yeah, so it gives up an ex exact silhouette of Willy and it identifies him as an Iraqi fighter jet. Iraqi fighter jet. So the one of the pilots goes, Iraqis again, so.

Speaker: Willy attacking them was evil problem. I loved the... Tom. pilot voice. yep that was so good it's like iraqis again so the the pilot launches the first missile And it just immediately goes behind and destroys the plane next to him. And he goes, kills a guy well, it doesn't kill him, but it destroys him. And then he launches his second missile, which destroys his own plane.

Speaker: so the pilots start coming down and one of the pilots points out this is what happens when you cut money out of the military budget and put it into healthcare it's a good it's a good program you just gotta give it a chance the parachutes then collapse they both plummet to the ground but they're both unharmed and have a fistfight in the bush are they in a desert as well I think so yeah.

Speaker: it looks like It looks like a shrubland. Yeah, the smell of a shrubland's not having a face. What is happening here?

Speaker: So strange. And i yeah, my note is just ah the first few minutes of this show had a lot to say. Yeah, I assume this is like... a detailed and thorough political commentary of like the American military I guess the Gulf War at this point but also I'm like I don't know anywhere near enough about it to know what the hell it actually is referencing this is a bit too nuanced for me I think...

Speaker: I think it's... I disagree on it being nuanced. I think this is just a let's mock both sides. Yeah. Oh, I didn't think it was neon. It was just detail. just like that No, my Michael said it was neon, so I was disagreeing.

Speaker: I probably used the wrong word. Sorry, Michael. no no it's fine Me a idiot. I didn't say you were an idiot, I just had to disagree. Yeah. Someone who actually knows about the Gulf War might actually agree with you.

Speaker: No, I might go four boys. Come support me. where my golf war bar is that where where Where are war nerds? Sound off in the comments. I could go get Blaney. yeah he'll agree with me he'll say it's a new one our resident gulf war expert Yep.

Speaker: Our podcast has many of them. Skinner's upset that it won't come down for months and he curses the man who invented he helium and This bleeds to Pierre -Jules -Caesar Johnson getting a... I call it.

Speaker: That got a good laugh. though See you in a bit. Oh sorry random fun fact the guy that discovered oxygen lived in the town next to mine When I was a kid. Well, not when I was a kid. When I was a child, I lived in a town called Heckmanwike.

Speaker: And the town next next to it, Burstel, is where... the guy that discovered oxygen lived. And there is a pub. down the road from me. that is where he stayed a lot. called the old hall.

Speaker: Yeah. Just a random fun fact. But every time I passed it I was like who's that my dad was like The guy that invented oxygen. I'm like, wow. Do you invent it? Yeah, use the same wording as Skinner here of invented. Yeah, yeah. No, no.

Speaker: How can we improve? We actually couldn't until he just Everyone's just been holding their breath for about 600 years.

Speaker: That's how old the ah the Earth is, yeah. Yeah, 600 years. Yeah, 600 years. where where a young young earth creation is starting a whole new conspiracy you see i know loads about the gulf war and the age of the earth me how we have a historian on the podcast it's got to be accurate yeah yep I have a history degree.

Speaker: So Skinner decides he's got to find out who the culprit is and asks Bart to empty his pocket. Buzz starts emptying his pocket saying, well, you won't find anything then. Skipper immediately finds the blueprints for the dummy.

Speaker: The notarized photos of Bart making them. Why were notarized? And of course, the alternative wording for the banner, of butzilla. Busts. Bart's a sponsor. the here I think the, simpson I think the, uh, I think the rewrite. was an improvement.

Speaker: i think I think Big Boat Skinner is a winner. So let's ask Milhouse to race him to Utah and Milhouse. gets going, but it's going to pull him back. And he tells Bart that he's going to be punished for this and it won't be a simple caning this time.

Speaker: Because Bart has impeded science, he will now aid science. No he hasn't. He hasn't impeded science. It's still a functional weather balloon. He hasn't impeded science! I have a lot of these for this episode by the way.

Speaker: How do you know that that banner doesn't interfere with the instruments on board it? Shit. Guy's got your back. He's a half. I have? So Skinner decides that Bart is going to assist him in his amateur astronomy and...

Speaker: He's going to be taking down measurements. carrying equipment. and he's got to meet Bart at 4 .30 in the morning. Bart's response to this is, is it 4 .30 in the morning now? Oh, of course. Right, okay. Yeah, he says 430. I...

Speaker: I remember, I misheard it because then when he gets up at 4am, I'm like, why is... but he should already be there. but No, he gets up at four. Right, okay. karam i don't Also, I don't think any of that is within Skinner's power to enforce, but sure. i you can i was like Imagine if your fucking teacher called your parents up and was like...

Speaker: I need your son to meet me in the middle of a field. 4 30 in the morning you would call the police legal yeah exactly you are both forgetting to keep aspect of the symptoms. This is the 90s.

Speaker: it the ninety s And... Fall to bed. Yeah. this is The two key pits. so bar wakes up at 4am and the radio DJ says it's

Speaker: Time for the morning news, but there is no news because everyone else ever is still asleep in their comfy, comfy beds. Good night, everybody. Good night, everybody. To which I wrote, no news, what a concept. There was a day there was a day in British history where we a newspaper did publish... no they They didn't publish anything because there was no news or something like that. No, it was... We filmed this exact story on the podcast, I remember. It was a, yeah, it was a news, it was a...

Speaker: a TV channels, so instead they played jazz. Yes, exact story. I remember. That sounds like an urban legend, but okay. Which podcast did we do that on?

Speaker: Who knows? That's going to bug me now. Vicky being bugged, but goes into his parents' bedroom and ambitiously asks his mum to make him breakfast. My just response is there's a stuffed pepper in the trash, just rinse it.

Speaker: Oh, God. Awesome. ah if We then cut to the pets watching Lassie on the television. And then we see Bart start to come down and the dog suddenly turns the TV off and they pretend to be asleep.

Speaker: I guess they're embarrassed by the concept of a bot. Sorry, I had to Google this. It happened in 1930. Hmm. Happened on April 18th. 1930.

Speaker: Right. 845. There was no news, so they played the piano for 15 minutes. Oh. I don't think John believes you. i'll so I'll send you the i'll send you the the news link. I haven't fully read it, so I could still be wrong.

Speaker: Anyway, I love these kind of bits with the pets that are like... The only thing is the pets were embarrassed. I think the pets were leading second lives that they don't want the humans to know about. Yeah. I wouldn't want people. I'd want people to do my Lassie time. It's like the one where they're fighting for Homer's attention.

Speaker: You know, I think it's Homer's attention where they're, um, you know, like they start like doing the tricks on the balls. We love you.

Speaker: So. But it's going. on his bike and he decides he better put on the generator because it's dark and unfortunately the generator stops his tires from moving fully so father really has to struggle to get to the school Did either of you have a bike that could do that? Not stop, like but have a generator with a light on it. I don't think I ever had a bike with a light on it. I never had anything like that.

Speaker: You never had a bike. No. i I genuinely never did have a bike. Gino! I loved biking around as a kid. i've never had one but as a kid i had balance issues so We have bikes we're never going to get along.

Speaker: Oh, my balance is shit, man. I keep like... Like when I'm doing bench presses, I keep feeling like I'm going to tip over. And I'm laid flat, and I still have balance issues.

Speaker: Yeah. Might not get to go through with it. the hospital to have to do like a series of balance exercises to try and get Jesus this but is it an inner ear thing I think it was. It was related to my ear.

Speaker: that Oh, you fine now? Well, I stopped going. We're never going to talk about Simpsons, are we? Apparently not. No. We're getting there. We're getting there. This is all related. It's all science. let's go back okay so sure so skinner is talking about how exciting science is as he's setting up the telescope you get all the fun of sitting still being quiet writing down numbers It has it all.

Speaker: There is actually something therapeutic about voluntary data entry. When you're being paid to do it, it's fucking mind -numbing. But when you're choosing to do it, I don't know, if I fall into a flow state.

Speaker: that's understandable yes i've never felt more judged in a moment of silence yeah no i'm not sure i agree with you on that one to be honest but Sure. But I specifically...

Speaker: Va asks about the telescope, but Skinner tells him, you won't be looking through it, because I forbid it. be you don't even bitd it But you don't need telescope to enjoy astronomy because you can look at all the constellations.

Speaker: So he points out the Orion, the Swan. The chariot race. A buck goes, why don't they look like their names? He goes, well, you've got to move. Use your imagination. And he goes, ah, the three wise men. Whichever costs the three stooges. Three Stooges, yeah.

Speaker: The bot asks who names these things and Skinny goes, whoever discovers them. And Bart asks him if he's ever found anything and he goess gonna goes, nope. But you did. but he couldn't get to the phone in time. and uh He's broken. His thing had been reported by Principal Kohotek.

Speaker: yeah but I got back at him him and his little boy and that boy of his

Speaker: Bit sinister. Did Skinner murder a guy and a child? That's the implication. I did look into that because there was Comet Kohotex. He's referencing like... a comet but like no the guy who discovered it was just a scientist it wasn't like i i was really hoping there would be like a really detailed backstory that some amateur astronomer who was like a head teacher at a school had accidentally discovered a comet and it was amazing know they'd make it skin's rival that would be so fucking funny

Speaker: But now he he he was just... Just an astronomer. That was his job. I think honestly... Whenever it's a skinner episode... episode they do try to fit in at least one Nam flashback.

Speaker: But it's really hard to do with astronomy, you know? They just they just decided, nah, it's going to fucking murder the dude. And I believe him. I believe it. Comet Cahotek was a real thing. It was 1974 and it was supposed to be like the comet of the century and it was a bit underwhelming.

Speaker: The solid's just going to reveal him. You keep the cell phone on him now. And the Skinner begins his task of... they're looking isn't that so fascinating though that he's like that's why i keep a cell phone on it's like and now we just always have one.

Speaker: Yeah, yeah it it is just fascinating to see like just the slow creeping of technology into the Simpsons universe because we had like the Apple Newton as well not long ago. So suddenly people are like ah starting to carry gadgets around with them, which is like, oh, OK.

Speaker: Sign of the times. Skinner begins his ah scientific findings and... We can see him start giving off these things over 6 hours, 19 minutes, right ass up. by ascension 14 degrees.

Speaker: 22 minutes. Okay, you don't need to repeat that. You need a lot of coordinates out. And basically, each time it's no sighting. this eventually builds up to reading about and it so they're all in a very dramatic voice and it just goes No citing. No citing. Did you get that, Barton? Barton goes, hell no. And he goes, hell no. Ah, good.

Speaker: It's going to finally spot something. He goes, give me the phone. And then we see the observer to check what he's seeing. And, of course, it is the Skinner weather balloon. How thick is Skinner? How thick is Skinner that he thought he felt the need to call?

Speaker: I know the answer. i know that we all know the answer yeah but but Why the fuck did he call... the observatory when he saw it. Why? well Me, me, me. I know this one. Is it for the bit?

Speaker: Fuck damn. Ugh! The observatory telescope is probably significantly better than Skinner's own telescope, so maybe it wasn't. that clear. I get, I... Are you happy with that scientific explanation?

Speaker: i am thank you good Skinner points out that it's already named after him, but... He says, it's pretty close to the ground so we can go there and he tells Bart to not touch the telescope because he could ruin the entire morning's work.

Speaker: The minute skin has run off, but... Messes with the telescope pretending to be a pirate. Also, no, he's been reading out coordinates. He can just put the... He can just... find the same coordinates again. Do you think Barr wrote down any of those coordinates?

Speaker: They look like he was right in the summer. So, Bart does see something in the telescope and he calls the... presses the redial button on the phone to point out the... yeah but he's found to the observatory We then see Skinner finally catch the balloon which he calls his rumpy doppelganger.

Speaker: That's right. It's good as everybody else's butt has made the phone call. and The observatory congratulates Bart because he's discovered a comet. Skidder goes back into Darth Vader mode and goes, no. Fortunately, you let go of the balloon at the same time. So there's enough. And then the newspaper is delivered and it's the president saying... Schoolies for losers.

Speaker: The current sitting president probably would say yes that. Yes, that's probably true. And it's the final one, the biggest. No. No. So we go to the Simpson family dinner and Homer's telling a story about how he sped away before anyone saw his license plate.

Speaker: he says oh that sounds like a good day and then he goes yeah except i forgot to go to work and i was just like why is lisa why is lisa like happy for him for breaking the law I'm not going to. Because he seems in a good mood. It seems like you've been well.

Speaker: Alright, fair enough. Bart reveals that he's discovered a comet and it brings out the newspaper article. Marge is very proud of Bart and Bart's responses as well. You've always been proud of me and Marge sheepishly goes, yes.

Speaker: I'm interested by the word Springfieldia night, which just yeah i thought that as well rolls off the tongue awfully. Springfieldia night. Because it's it's like... Because I think... obviously The obvious joke is it's either Springfieldian or Springfieldite.

Speaker: But they were just like, nah, fuck it, Springfieldian. That's so to combine them. Yeah. So we see Bart at the lunchroom and he can't find a table and... is then Summoned over by A .M.

Speaker: Club of... Nerds. Yeah. That's... Fucking nerds. It's 90s, not 90s nerds. This scene is set up very well, I had to go back and rewatch it. But yeah, I'll let you explain it.

Speaker: first though Bart is looking sheepishly as he's forced to sit on this nerd table and uh databases. congratulates him and says ah because he's The first students who discover a comet He's now a member of the Super Friends.

Speaker: But I was like, dev everyone goes. Hi, super friend. So Ham reveals he's called Ham because he likes ham radio. And we got email. Cosine report card.

Speaker: He drew the shots from the names. Database and Lisa. And Bosnian names. And Lisa. Bart's nickname will be Cosmos.

Speaker: I like the Lisa reveal there because, like, they have very carefully, like, angled every single, like, shot of this table previously to hide Lisa. So the reveal of her is genuinely surprising. Because I went back and watched this and I'm like, wait, how did I miss Lisa before? But, like, when he's introducing them to the table, Lisa is perfectly behind him. So she's out of sight. um If you're really, really listening, when they all go, hi, Bart. I thought I heard Lisa's voice. is Yeah, her voice is in the mix. I thought they were just using her actress at the time. I was just like, I didn't even think about that. Yeah, that of course she's in the group, but I just thought, oh, they're just using her.

Speaker: Voice. So yeah. Brian's appreciation of joining the super friends eats his lunch super quickly and goes, well, I'm done eating. Bye. And the kids go, goodbye, cosmos. It's up to you, Basis.

Speaker: would like to see bots come in but goes it's right there and database and falling for this because You can't see a comet in broad daylight without a telescope. a but goes You don't need a stupid telescope. I like how he says, it but I'm not going to turn around unless I'm definitely going to see something. Because I think that's kind of a reference to like...

Speaker: a bully making him turn around and live you know like yeah it's just kind of a look behind you kind of thing isn't it yeah so if the nerds are all shocked especially emails like Oh no, this isn't right at all! Yeah. so uh But I was shocked when Lisa then points out the part that the commenters Going to collide with the Earth and kill everybody. And part of the response to this is, I knew you'd find something wrong with my comment.

Speaker: Yeah. i I think... This was a good bit. but just delivered. not great. I don't know how to explain it. It's like, I know that this should be a good joke, but I just don't think it was.

Speaker: delivered at the right time or... Or or the the delivery from the actor, actress, I suppose, for Bart. I just you know it just it kind of fell flat even though it is a good joke.

Speaker: And I don't know why. Maybe they just needed a bit more interaction there. Maybe Lisa had to say something back. Like it's obviously there or something. but I was going to say it earlier when... When Lisa finds out that Bart discovered a comment. A comet?

Speaker: A comet? she You know, she does react. And I was going to say that I'm surprised there wasn't a B plot. Hmm. about lisa being jealous but it's like where would you fit a b plot in this episode you know yeah and yeah they they probably did have an idea.

Speaker: for it but just had to scrap it because it would make no sense in this episode for them be for that to be a B -plot. I think this gag is also just a little bit overshadowed by the fact that everything else in the scene is really dramatic. yeah that Everyone's screaming, as oh my god, the comet's coming towards Earth! Then you get the... gag about like oh you of course you wouldn't uh you've always been petty and small yeah and then it's like to of the observatory and it's like yeah you've got these big

Speaker: big shouty bits before and after it and then there's a few quiet lines of dialogue in between it's just it's sort of overwhelmed a bit i think yeah if they'd held off on doing it a little later Like, they they go to the observatory.

Speaker: and Bart still doesn't get what the problem is. THEN Lisa says it? It could have worked. Maybe, maybe. Looks like like i said I think it is a good bit It's just timing.

Speaker: Mm -hmm. So basically they go to the observatory and they're all singing the Super Friends song and Bart tells them to shut up. we don't see observatively looking and the man going oh dear god and then the other one Woman says. We've talked about you hogging the eyepiece.

Speaker: That was a shit gag. Like, what was the... this that to me really felt like we need a gag here yeah it's like we've got to kill a minute Yeah, it just, yeah, nah, it didn't work for me. So the doomsday for a alarm goes off and everyone is panicking except Abe and Jasper. Oh, I fucking love Abe and Jasper in this bit. This was good. Abe says, apes is it's the doomsday whistle. I haven't been blown for nigh on three years.

Speaker: three years damn they're also set outside an old timey yeah it's like a wild west like saloon And Jasper's like, ah, triple abroon. Trouble brewing.

Speaker: So we then cut to City Hall and... Mayor Quimby's giving a town speech, he says. When he learns about the impending crisis, he can't... The next plane back to springfieldd up Springfield. Which everyone clapped.

Speaker: Then he goes, yes, there's a comet coming. and It's going to hit Springfield. and everyone Starts to... Tentatively clap. Which podesco? You don't need to applaud that. You don't have to clap at everything. And Quibi says, no worry, we're going to show you a ah simulation of what it's going to look like, which is a projector. and slides.

Speaker: So we see the first slide. i like that I like the charred corpses bit. So it's a very crude drawing of the comet heading to Springfield. is the first slide and then it goes to the second slide which is the comet hitting mose bar well of course it's a gas by this oh god And then we get the yes. child corpses picture It's so bleak. But Quimby says, don't worry, we've got a plan. and Introduces Professor Fink and...

Speaker: The rest of the thing starts to introduce himself and one guy goes, his two hysterics go, Squid Starling, what's the plan? And he keeps stalling. Yeah, he just tells him to take his seat and... Fink reveals that they've been working with the top former quarter of... administration officials and military men who were forced into early retirement for various reasons.

Speaker: Someone explain this to - Please tell me someone's - googled this i don't get it i'm guessing there must have been a lot of court marshals in the early 90s or something I guess cost of the gulf war. Yeah, maybe i don't I genuinely don't know enough about the Gulf War to...

Speaker: if If it's a reference to that, or if... Kiss. The thing is for me is whenever that kind of stuff comes up, I always assume Operation Paperclip, but that wouldn't make sense in this. situation the thing is over the years there have been so many american military cover -ups and dodgy shit that like it could be a reference to fucking anything damn near anything yeah yeah Sprink reveals that... ah A rocket is being built and will be fired into the crop. into the comments.

Speaker: There's a little scale model that which it demonstrates this on. so the comet explodes and the fire lands on the little model of moe's bar which again moe is aghast what Why is this Springfield's problem? Someone else has surely seen the giant ball of death in the sky heading for - Earth.

Speaker: Nope, this is going to destroy Springfield and only Springfield. This will have no and wider impacts beyond the city boundaries. That's how this works So everyone goes out of the town hall and laughs at the comment.

Speaker: Except Lisa, who looks slightly weird. Yep. As they're driving home, Homer goes, will you stop worrying about the stupid comment? It's going to be destroyed. But Lisa goes, but don't you think? And Homer's response to this is, the whole reason we have elected officials is that we don't have to think.

Speaker: So fucking bleak. This episode had some things to say. This episode fucking hit like a truck sometimes. I for example, this is the rainforest scare a few years back. Oh, God, this episode had some things to say. At least, again, points out, but then I don't think it was like, oh, there's that word again.

Speaker: It's one of those things where it's like... I understand where the joke is. I'm just like, maybe I'm too... 2026 pilled. to find it funny.

Speaker: think i'm I'm too busy just being like... too fucking real man too fucking real i mean in 2026 you can enjoy it but at this point it is a sort of pitch black humor kind of thing yeah it's a very yeah it's a very dick you wouldn't call this Like.

Speaker: sati looks like Back then it was satire. Now it's just... fucking bleep. Now it's just real. Now it's just real. I mean, yeah, a lot of this is is weirdly ahead of its time because, I mean, I guess we'll get into this a bit more later, but obviously late 90s you've got other disaster movies, but also in a weird kind of way.

Speaker: You have... Don't Look Up, which was like a... comedy. parody satire. Disaster movie about... You know, a comet destroying the planet. that was played for laughs with a pitch black humor kind of thing. Some people really fucking hated that film.

Speaker: I quite enjoyed it. I i liked it. but yeah he's It's one of those ones that I probably wouldn't watch again. But I did enjoy watching it. and But yeah, it is. really fucking real and i think that's it's like some people hated it because it was too real some people hated it because it was making a big deal out of nothing which is hilarious because they're the people the film is fucking parodying Um...

Speaker: Yeah, no, it's a good movie. Go watch it, if you haven't. We then see the newspaper headline with rocket to kick comet's tail? And we then see everyone making preparations for the rocket. The rocket has a... panel on the side that says Caution, aim away from face. Aim away from face. So Marge has to tell me what they'll do with it.

Speaker: do if that this doesn't work and how his response is while the unprepared is just sitting twiddling their thumbs going do do do do do do do bus still tu and up What's the plan in August? I'm getting to it. So anyway, there going. Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo. and uh palmer finally reveals that the plan is to gain the car take the only bridge out of town All the wildlife is still going doo doo doo doo doo.

Speaker: Then the... Rocket finally blasts off and Homer's knocked backwards by the blast. and I like how they only show Homer getting knocked back because they couldn't be arsed to animate the rest of them. So Homer's delighted. And we see the rocket climbing into the sky as everyone else is going, yeah! And then it clearly just goes over the rocket.

Speaker: And then destroys the only Pachata. We don't go back to the entire time. but There are so many ways out of Springfield. one You can't just suddenly say there's only one bridge. You can't do... No, there is a cannon.

Speaker: Not anymore. No, another really isn't. Just go through the grand fucking canyon that lives next to Springfield. Yeah, but you have to go over the bridge to go. Or ford the river. No, you've got to go over the bridge. Use the helicopter that they use to look at the bridge. Take a boat from Springfield Harbour.

Speaker: Oh my god, I didn't even think of the fucking harbour. No, because you've got to go through the toll bridge. which is the bridge. I hate this Just accept scientific fact that that bridge was the only way anyone was going to survive.

Speaker: I hate this. Why do you think the whole why do you think the whole time we're...

Speaker: ah is also like who builds a fucking town with only one way in and out of it but also i'm pretty sure well there's your problem has an episode about ah but a town that only had one bridge in and out of it that collapsed So Lisa declares, we're doomed.

Speaker: no one says it's times like this he wishes he was a religious man and we just see whatever love joy running down the street going it's all over people This was, that yeah, that was that was a good bit. I would not be surprised if if if you asked like the writers of Don't Look Up what was your inspirations, this episode would come up.

Speaker: Potentially, yeah. yeah Obviously it's a different, you know... because like most people just like didn't acknowledge the comet in don't look up but You know. i I think there is definitely... Uh, uh, a th - a thread, there.

Speaker: Mm -hmm. so we go to the ken rockman delivering his news report and uh He reveals that the rocket soared too high like Icarus and... It lost control of its servo guidance system and it's leaving like you hear us And it's leaving them six hours to live.

Speaker: I didn't even get that bit, that is good. It's like, ah yes, the classic tale of Icarus losing the thermo -guiding system. them. So. We cut to... So we cut to Oni pie in the sky and...

Speaker: Arnie's revealing that, but the bird's gone, and... Look at that convenient way to fly out of town! Or you could use Springfield Airport! You're forgetting about the dome.

Speaker: the are My apologies. Yeah. didn't they didn't they mention springfield airport or am i am i just somehow Yeah, the bridge gone and the airport unfortunately on the other side of the bridge. Yeah, everything's on the other side of the bridge. Oh, okay. Fair enough. The harbour. That is addressed. They addressed it. Yeah.

Speaker: Arnie reveals the number of citizens that are trying to jump the bridge with their cars and... and they didn't even set up a ramp the fucking idiot they just went He says it's a silent testament that they never give up and never think things out. They're very tall citizens.

Speaker: I kept up with it. with a little annihilation element our federal government has snapped into action and he says we're going to cut to congress and we see that there's a bill to evacuate the town but a rider is tacked on of the 30 million to support the perverted arts and uh the Springfield slash Pervit bill is defeated.

Speaker: And Kate Brockman goes, This episode had a lot to say about society. And Kate Brockman says, Democracy does not work. he then just simply goes okay well these people are gay Oh, that was so funny.

Speaker: it's like there are things that a reporter cannot report so in spirit of that These people are gay and there's a fucking list. Matt Groening was on the list, if anybody's... It is all just the the yeah the the Simpsons creators. Yeah, this the... the the

Speaker: The. studio staff basically yeah that's funny which is also a weird one because i i gather in the years since this episode aired there have been a number of lists of like i guess famous question mark gay people have circulated on the internet then these names ended up on the list because they just i guess just cited it as fact when it was just like a gag people are a fucking idiots well i think there were a lot of 60s 70s actors that were At least. bisexual.

Speaker: If you want, these... these the these Everybody in the Simpsons team was just like, yeah, let's stick our names on there because it'll be funny. Marge still has turned the TV off and Homer is quite writing down the list of all these people just in case.

Speaker: Yeah, it's like, give me a minute. Sup? Marge turns the TV off and Helmer says, what's everyone being worked up? The comet will burn up in our atmosphere and whatever will be left will be the size of a chara's head.

Speaker: Puckers. Ah, maybe you're right, I don't know, because, well, if I'm wrong... Let's all be horribly crushed from above somehow. Well, you likely wouldn't be crushed, Homer. You'd be obliterated by the shockwave. yeah homo says if everyone's that worried let's go into the bomb shelter and lisa goes we have a bomb shelter of course homo takes care of his family

Speaker: So he's outside the Flanders house and knocking on Flanders' door. Yeah, it took me a second because he goes out to the garden and I'm like, wait, think definitely that's new. that's that's That's not their garden and that wasn't there before. So Flanders opens up and Helmut tells him to get out because the family needs to use the bomb shelter.

Speaker: And Flanders goes, I figured this might happen, so I built it big enough for both our families. Oma's response is, no deal, get out. Not at the push of it. And then we see the shadow of the comet looming over the city.

Speaker: Some penguin seed. All of the physics of this is just like... That's not how this works. Like right from the off when it's looming in the sky. That's not how this works. You see some penguins look up at it and then fly off.

Speaker: So they can fly! I knew it! So we'll see people hiding under like park benches and... the Phone booths. That'll help. That'll save them. Do you know what? like i think i've I think I've told this story before as well. Do you know the whole duck and cover thing that they taught kids in school? yeah in America during the Cold War. That was just to keep them calm.

Speaker: Oh, yeah. but Wood rise. Like, it would do nothing? Yeah, of course it would. Well, because it's it's not about the blast. It's about the roof collapsing on their head. And it's like, how strong do you think the fucking legs on a school table are?

Speaker: i i suppose there's kind of an element of it it depends how far from the blast you are if you're far enough away that there would be like a lot of debris and broken glass and stuff you'd be semi -sheltered but like you know it's kind of an edge case kind of yeah i mean yeah there are some situations where it would work but i do i do believe there is like documents somewhere where they said it was just to keep the kids from panicking ah Yeah.

Speaker: So. and there's that well left and homer is upset that he's got to wait another hour and he goes what's keeping that stupid There's a knock on the door and he's like, oh, there it is. Oh, there it is. There's no fucking sense. So Ned opens the door and everybody in Springfield is standing outside looking quite menacing. Broken bottles and... Shouldn't you be in your shelterinis?

Speaker: We don't have Shelterines. We wanted yours and punished us. Oh, it's kind of full. everyone kind of accepts it but very quickly because oh well we'll just go someplace to die I did like that subversion of the joke there, that was funny So Flanders then says, you might regret when the air runs out and they all suffocate.

Speaker: he goes ba what the hey everyone come in so everyone gets in but Oh, my car's shut the door. I said someone's got to get out. Lisa says, She... She could get out, but she can't. She doesn't know where she is. Well, where's Waldo? He's also in the shelter. just a sport so I didn't notice that. That's great.

Speaker: He disappears in the next shot, which is exactly the same shot, but he's just not there. Also, hold on. Hold on. Michael. It's WALL -E. yes don't you fucking americanize this shit we invented it it was a fucking british writer i apologizelly it How dare you?

Speaker: i looked into this because like suddenly like i realized i'd never bothered to look into why it was different in the states but like in uh Martin Hanford is your author? Born in London, apparently. Oh, my apologies. I don't know where I got that that they're a Scottish person. Still going, age 69. Jesus, well done to him.

Speaker: But yeah, I did look into the Waldo thing because like, I was like, why is it Waldo in America? I've never looked into this before. And it's just the American publisher didn't like the, or someone at the American publisher didn't like the name Waldo. So they changed it. What a fucking idiot. That's it. That's literally it.

Speaker: Fucking idiot. In the shelter, Bonnie is upset that someone is touching him and Skinner reveals it's him and Bonnie goes, ah, okay. Yeah! Oh, they should have... They should have put Barney's name.

Speaker: on The list then and then it could have been a ah really funny callback if you'd noticed his name on the list Maybe. yeah so What I wanted them to do with the Wally thing is have him in a different place in each scene. But no, they did not follow through on that. so They start going through that.

Speaker: who should stay in the shelter? And Christy goes, the world will need laughter. So Ivan and Mel goes, yeah, but we'll need someone to dispense drinks and someone has to run the power. You could do that, Homer. And Homer's like, you're sure Yeah, So we also see that... a Reverend Lovejoy gets in because of his religious enlightenment and his wife's gossip.

Speaker: And Homer, liking the asshole that he is, decides that we don't need left -handed stores, and that's Flanders. So he starts whispering to one of the top - Yeah, this got really dark really quickly. So Homer's going to the Flanders kids, I'm really sorry, please forgive me. So let's kick Flanders out and die, because he's the useless person here. I'm really sorry.

Speaker: So Ned says, that sounds fair. even though it's his fucking shield. Yeah. He goes, toodaloo, everyone. I'll scream when the comet gets here. And Mark goes, I'll come with you. He goes, no, you stay here. And she goes, okay. yeah so Ned then tells uh he might go mad with fear so he gives Todd a shotgun and goes shoot me if I try to get back in and uh I was like, okay, so.

Speaker: As long as they're singing and Todd is crying as he's loading the gun. No room for Flanders to stand in the shelter but there's plenty of room for taught the load a gun. Just. Bad eye, mind works. And we just hear Wanda singing Tis -a -a -sa -a outside.

Speaker: And everyone looks around looking here. quite sheepish about the whole thing and Moe then goes Let's play a game of too past the time of Barnard Animal. That makes his noise, and, uh... Everyone starts arguing about it.

Speaker: What are you doing there? Christy going, it's a lady goat. There are no lady goats. It was a sheep. I think she's right. You're crazy. ah what's it to you And everyone starts arguing and then March goes.

Speaker: Stop it! Can't you see this barnyard noise game is tearing us apart? So go silent over here if I'm discussing in case there are, and, uh... Much fun it goes. Is that a duck? And back to the argument. And then Homer finally tells everyone to shut up.

Speaker: says he can't take it he can't let that brave man out there die even though homer's the one that kicked him out the she yeah yeah real weird but sure okay so homer says he's disgusted by everyone especially his children That's such a random take. So Alma says he's going out there then puts his head back in to say it was a baby ox.

Speaker: And then. Mel goes, he's right. And then Skinner goes, about the ox, he goes, about everything. that Says, I want to die too. And Apu's like, oh you're going, I'm going. And Bonnie's like, me too. And everybody goes out to the shelter.

Speaker: Let's see, Flanders on the hilltops, in case there are, and... everybody starts comes and joins him and they're all all in my arm thinking casesa whatever will be will be and then quickly tells everyone to run as the comet starts Speeding towards them but...

Speaker: Lo and behold! it starts to break up. And the whole thing breaks up to the size of a Chihuahua. It pops the weather balloon, tending that hook. I suppose there was a B plot. but It destroys the shelter. Mo and Flanders are both were horrified by this.

Speaker: Yeah, it fucking pings off it. That was so good And there's a convenient chihuahua stood next to Bart, just for reference, for the size of the head. Which Paul puts in his pocket and... Everyone starts cheering and Selma says, you've got to appreciate the preciousness of life as they both start smoking.

Speaker: Also, the comet is shown to be hot. It would not actually be hot. Mm -hmm. It'd be cold, wouldn't it? I can't remember like where I picked up that particular factoid, but I've learned enough about astronomy over the years that for some reason, one fact that i have that has stuck in my head is that actually when they land, there generally yeah they're not actually hot. No. For reasons that are beyond me. I can't remember the science behind it, but I know they're not hot. So Mo says, let's go burn down the observatory to make sure this doesn't happen again.

Speaker: And she gotcha got took heart me. Okay. And Lisa cannot believe that the extra thick layer of pollution that she's been picketing against actually burnt up the comet. They seemed kind of random. But those responses is also...

Speaker: This is exactly what Homer said would happen. I was like, I know kids. I'm scared too. They both, they're all huddling for you and terrified. That's represent. There we go Let's go. What do we make of that?

Speaker: Uh, it was fun. Nothing crazy. I think again it's it's it's one of those classic ones of I really enjoyed talking about it. But in the actual episode when I was watching it, I was like, this is fine.

Speaker: I think it's one of those ones that probably after multiple watches, it gets funnier because you do notice a lot more. Little details. But... the Yeah, the first watch, it was fine. It's it's a fun episode.

Speaker: There is for sure a lot of detail in there, yeah. Stuff that we've only really been been able to tease out by like picking through it scene by scene here. with three perspectives but yeah I don't think I did any... Realizations. I think that was all on YouTube. some of it is me going back and picking through it in retrospect and other times it was like there's like the scene where i was like i need to watch that scene again just to make sure i got that yeah

Speaker: so that was like i'm genuinely like mildly impressed by the way that was done the the way they managed to pull the lisa reveal out of the super friends i was like huh okay yeah yeah like somehow managed used to like conceal her until reveal time despite showing the entire table multiple times But yeah, I had a good time with this. I enjoyed it. It's a solid. full of gags even if yeah some of them a little bit lost on me

Speaker: definitely had a few things to say and i think i think i just kind of like appreciate an episode a bit more when there is stuff that is definitely like oh yeah there's some commentary going on yeah I don't know whether it's just great, this podcast material, or just I like that kind of thing. but yeah it's just It's just a really solid episode, I think.

Speaker: Yeah. It's one of those ones that like if someone was like I really like that episode. I wouldn't... Say that wrong? i It's not my favorite episode, but it's a good episode. Yeah, ah don't I don't think favourite by any stretch, but, like, yeah, solid. I mean, weirdly, the only the only bit I, like, really remembered to any extent was the weather balloon, really.

Speaker: Yeah, the weather the weather balloons like a That was another one of those. So that's where that comes from. Yeah. And we have one of those in the next episodes. Well, actually, yeah if we have two, in my opinion. that in the next episode that are that. I just kind of remember the Moe's ball. burning down in the simulations. That was the bit I kind of remembered as a kid.

Speaker: So what's your art of homeless folks? I give it a for the bit out of Homer. Because... This episode was very contrived. Yum. uh i gave it an a homer was right out of homer because there's a lot in it where i just felt like it was just a little bit eerie in its prescience I gave it to you. because whatever will be will be Yeah, don't explain that.

Speaker: What did I have to say about society? Indeed. i So yeah, there's definitely a few things in here like... I've kind of already touched on a few of them, but like... The... I just... i think i want to go back to the prescience thing in that like this was three years before Deep Impact and Armageddon came out. Yeah. Which just feels weird to me. I was like, there's no way this came out before Deep Impact and Armageddon. But yeah, yeah, it did.

Speaker: That's just weird. It was a very like... mocking anti -science rhetoric. as well in Like with the comet stuff. Obviously the intro.

Speaker: had a lot to say about the military -industrial complex and seemingly the Gulf War. And then there's... the commentary about you know how slow and useless governments are in a crisis.

Speaker: And you could even... i I don't know if this was intentional, so I'm not going to give them credit for it, but you could even say that... America's government does often leave smaller towns like this. to deal with their problems. Even if that problem is something that would affect the entire globe.

Speaker: because it's Because it's about to hit Springfield, they're like, nah, Springfield has to deal with it. Like, no, it's a fucking comet! but i suppose there's actually the joke there that everyone at like everyone else around the country the world Because obviously the government of America... felt like they had to deal with it. even though they then didn't.

Speaker: the rest of the world's like no this comet will break up in the atmosphere So there's like a joke about how stupid American science is? Or not science, but like the American government, like panicking over nothing. but again yeah i don't know if that was intended Do you know what I mean?

Speaker: So... I don't know if I want to give them credit for that bit. yeah i mean this is an episode written by everyone's favorite libertarian john schwartzwelder so quite exactly what he was trying to say with this is unclear but he was probably trying to say something yeah there is there as yeah as you said there is a bit of an anti -science bent there and like I wonder how much of that was intentional. It feels...

Speaker: potentially somewhat intentional john's world always seems to have very mixed messages Hmm. Yes. Yeah. Libertarianism is a a strange. ideology I would say at times.

Speaker: But yeah, like you've got... you've got the like the rainforest scare line in there um which then mixed in with the like oh ah we we put too much faith in institutions which like is ah a real and genuine message that like we we absolutely as a people do just trust in our elected officials to fix everything for us we don't have to worry about things or do anything to fix anything because That's what we elect people for.

Speaker: Yeah, then followed up with that. rainforest lion which is like There's so many things there, like we have been through crises before and our elected officials have managed to implement.

Speaker: policies that have fixed them the two biggest ones that spring to mind that like will forever bug me about human civilization till I die, probably, that we have failed to learn anything from are the hole in the ozone layer.

Speaker: And the... Millennium bug. to Big crises. of the broadly 90s. I'm not sure exactly when we started. I forgot about the Millennium Poke.

Speaker: Everyone does. This is kind of my, this is kind of where I'm getting at. Like. We fixed them. We all pulled together. and we made the changes that were needed to fix them. And now we don't worry about them. But because nobody got any... There was no fanfare. There was no discussion. Nobody got a medal for doing good at the end of it. Like... Nobody ever really thinks about like how we all came together to avert a global crisis.

Speaker: and how that is possible when we do work together. And now we're staring down the barrel of... other global crises as I sit sweating in 30 degree heat in Wales.

Speaker: Yeah. Ugh. Nobody wants to do anything. eighteen here Oh, is it's 30 degrees. Fuck me standing! Jesus, how are you alive?

Speaker: I'm, uh, sweaterly. Hmm. he's wearing that on that one yeah It's fine. I'm going on holiday somewhere about 10 degrees cooler in two days. It's fine. Where are you going?

Speaker: I'm going up to Lake District for a wait. Ooh, lovely. I love the lakes. Hmm. Yeah, it should be good. It won't be 30 degrees. It'll be lovely. Mmm, yes. Yeah, no, it's it's a fun episode and it definitely did have like...

Speaker: way more to say than I give it credit for, I think. there's a one There's a lot in this episode. you could you could just I think you could genuinely use this episode as like a little school project kind of.

Speaker: thing. In the sense that, you know, like... analyze what media says about society. this This one, they really like hammered home their messages. Even if those messages... Ended up being...

Speaker: Very mixed, thanks to Schwarzwalder. Yeah. I mean, I don't know if, like, they they just... again is it for the bit is it is it just being like homer delivering mixed messages because also it's kind of funny to that and it's like i think we homer is very much one of those people of like i don't have to think because the government thinks for me and he is a literal parody of that kind of person So I think it's a very formal line to say.

Speaker: Yeah, yeah, absolutely. Um, yeah. It is absolutely a criticism of... far too far too many people, really, is that... People don't think because they would think people will fix it. and

Speaker: Again. Because we have in the past is part of the problem. Because we fixed big problems relatively easily without massive impacts to people's lives, people just assume that everything else will go the same way in the future. Like, look, we we passed legislation that reduced how many CFCs we emit into the atmosphere, which means the ozone layer is fixed now.

Speaker: which means... Ah, well... i don't What do I notice? I don't notice. There's different coolant in my fridge and my aerosols have got different stuff in them as a propellant. But like... How how does that impact my life? Well, it doesn't, but we fixed it. We've had vaccines for so long that you can convince oh stupid people that they cause autism.

Speaker: I hadn't even considered the vaccines but yes you're completely right on that one as well yeah that falls completely into the same category. Yeah. let's let's move on because obviously i i genuinely feel if we keep talking about this we're gonna go on a rant and depress ourselves yeah i mean i did i wanted to touch on the kent and the democracy doesn't work line as well because like that that scene of the senate just like

Speaker: you know, absolutely just undermining each other's policies to try and fix anything is just absolutely... So on the nose, immediately put in mind of the the Palestine Action Prescription in the UK, where it was bundled up with the prescription of a number of other organisations that...

Speaker: You would be an idiot to oppose. So anybody who wanted to oppose the prescription of past nine action. Also... had to at the same time oppose the prescription of a bunch of other obvious on the face of its terror groups. And it's like, well, either either they're all okay or they're all bad. There was no option. It was just kind of a poison pill kind of deal. Yes we do! Bring on the comet! Does human races deserve to die?

Speaker: Yes! Alright, so hold me the clown. Homie the fucking clown. February 12th, 1995. That's the point. Yeah, why bother? Let's just... ah there's There's no Simpsons. Here's 15 minutes of piano. It's okay. This one is a light -hearted clown episode.

Speaker: All right, so. again I've got no news for you Peace to them. Bonnie Blair skates female world record. What, 500 meters? good Good for her them. Yeah, yeah.

Speaker: CLC is still the US number one and Celine Dion is still the UK number one. not Fair enough. Good time. Yeah, that's all I've got folks. The cardboard garg. Next time it could be me on the scaffolding.

Speaker: That's a dark one. Yeah, that was... Damn dudes! What the I feel like, that feels like that's referencing something, but I don't know what. but i i On its own, it's just dark. it doesn't Yeah, it sounds, if I if i was to guess.

Speaker: Bye. made someone fall off scaffolding and hospitalized them. Oh, I read it as Bart was laughing at somebody who fell off the scaffolding. I... met yeah i Yeah, maybe.

Speaker: Bart doesn't seem like a fucking murderer. sir Couch Gag is the family just... sitting in mid -air and the couch sits on them. Like snap. First scene in Bart of Darkness. Yeah, I thought this looked familiar.

Speaker: Yeah, you've seen this one. So we begin with the k Christie the Clown show and Christie's on a bicycle and it just casually gets smaller and smaller until he's on a tiny one. i'm a I'm the most... unobservant person i did not notice is it got smaller until literally the end literally the gag but okay what the fuck is wrong with me guys So he does the loop trip and he eats the bicycle as the kids are happy. and Lisa says, when Krusty wants to, we can still blow him away and, uh...

Speaker: Bart says yep you can take a simple everyday thing like eating a bicycle and make it funny. Yeah! So Christie makes himself play the ah bell from his mouth, and he waves goodbye, and then his face immediately drops once the curtain's gone, and he...

Speaker: Like... Likes a cigarette using a $100 bill. What's up? you know casual people do He starts throwing his money to his aides, which include Five thousand. Books on the Lakers. Hire Kenny G to play in the elevator and this house is dirty, just buy him a new one. Buy me a clean one. So Christie's accountant is...

Speaker: Not happy with his spending. Christie's response to this is, did you send those off? roses to be off his grave and uh Bill is, he can't, he's exasperated because Bea Arthur was still alive at this point and Christy didn't. Well, he doesn't say that. He says, yes, but she's still. And he interrupts with, I don't want to hear the end of any sentences, which I love. Yeah, it's a good line. So George Carlin calls on the phone and he's frightening to Sue Christy because Christy's.

Speaker: Seven words you can't say on TV was not different from his seven words you could you can't say on TV. Of course he says, I'm a thief. Well, excuse me. Then he just says. Give him 10 grand. and Steve Martin's on the other line. He goes, give him 10 guns. too I had to have that one explained to me. Unfortunately, I didn't realize, well, excuse me, it was a Steve Martin thing, but he's sewing him for exactly the same thing. So Fat Tony comes into the office and...

Speaker: says He's got a... ah large wager on the horse race and uh christy wants to let it ride on the opera and what is What does that mean? What does he mean? What does it mean? What does it mean? What does it mean? so It doesn't mean anything. think It's just funny. The Tony says, who do you like? Uh, the custom ah tenor. And he goes... Yeah, perfect. It's fine. Will I get right? Because you crack us up and...

Speaker: The accountant goes, you've got to stop blowing your money like this, and Christie's response this is, no can do, as he lights them his cigarette with a Superman comic. No, no, no, no, no. First edition action comics.

Speaker: Hold on, let's do a quick, yeah. Action Comics. Number one. Let's just real quick... 4 .3 million dollars.

Speaker: yeah in 2014. No, no, no, that's what it would be equivalent in 2025 Oh, sorry. Oh, that is adjusted. Right. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. The accountant points out that gambling is the finest thing a person can do, but if you're good at it.

Speaker: But Christie hasn't won anything in months, and Christie says... We'll crank out some merchandise. He goes, but you've already merchandised everything, which includes the Monopoly game. The crowd control barrier, which is as Christy's face is, Christy says, christie sayss keep out.

Speaker: I like how the Krusty Monopoly game... Again, is Simpsons being so fucking prescient? because it's all it's mocking celebrities doing needless...

Speaker: Like. merchandise, but it's also mocking the fact that there is a monopoly for fucking everything now. I have been getting YouTube adverts in the last week. four. A Simpsons Monopoly movie. Oh, yeah, I've seen those.

Speaker: you know fucking mr monopoly's team mobile game free like freemium bullshit mobile game Tie in... I had the Simpsons Monopoly board game as a kid.

Speaker: I'm pretty certain that was - He genuinely just unlocked that memory. but Yeah, but now you can play Monopoly online and pay money for microtransactions forever and there's a Simpsons themed tie -in. I like Monopoly. I'm going to be that guy. I like Monopoly.

Speaker: I like Monopoly! It's fun! It's not supposed to be liked. It was invented as a parody of capitalism. I find the game fun. I find the game phone!

Speaker: ah It's a game of... You're not supposed to! It's a game that you play under the false pretence of bonding, which you... grow accustomly frustrated with because you get slowly bankrupted. Because it's not supposed to be fun, because the creator was making, you know, like... Political commentary!

Speaker: It's not a game. It's political commentary. I find it fun. i i literally i i I literally said earlier, I find data or entry fun. Leave me alone. Well, we've discovered who's the evil capitalist among the... well man in the morning guess I am I am I didn't become like left -leaning until I was like...

Speaker: 20 So let me have my weird fucked up childhood. Alright, Boris Johnson. I don't think I even became left -leaning until the where I was 20. I was like 22. I know. Nigel that's fine I do just want to point out to the listeners I wasn't homophobic I did accept gay people, at least. Okay. Okay. tell us about the lady crusty mustache removal system michael no yes so um Christy's...

Speaker: Female. line isn't working and uh chrissy goes but The infomercial's running 24 hours, which he cuts to, and... We see that the crusty moustache removal that John just referenced is working. And she goes, it's crust -errific -izer. analysis of it she goes is my upper lip supposed to be that's an adjective His response is just, yeah, probably. but This is Johnny Unitas doing a guest voice. you Not a guy I'm aware of.

Speaker: Big in American football, I gather. so The accountant points out that Chrissie's only... Option is to open a clown college and Chrissy goes, you mean like Bozo the Clown? Why is that his only option?

Speaker: Because he's... Because he's done everything else. It's the only thing he hasn't tried. The only thing. And they haven't invented cryptocurrency yet. So Christie says, you'll just cut back on the condo egg omelette. He goes, hmm. I'd want a couple of those. The count just goes off on the conscious.

Speaker: Christy lights another cigarette, Will. with A string of pills. And then we cut to Homer in his car and it's the first of the month, so it's New Billboard Day. What a lovely New Billboard Day.

Speaker: So elber paused elmer stops in it doesn't it? couple horses the car carrying truck behind the stop which a load of cars accidentally drive onto finders keepers so he drives off with them and uh I'm going to read the ad which is about English muffins and have a go. Whatever you say, Mr. Billboard.

Speaker: No, he said he says, this ah what is it? this This year, give her English muffins. Yeah. Yep. Whatever you say, Mr. Bill. I'm going to stop to the next one and cause there's a giant explosion behind. Also, English muffins.

Speaker: Not fucking English! okay What? Are they not? We don't call them that. No, we're in England. Do you know? We don't call them muffins. What those things are, we don't call those muffins.

Speaker: Are they cupcakes? It's not a - It's the thing you get a fucking McDonald's breakfast egg shit thing in. That's not a muffin, is it? We call a muffin a muffin! No, but that's why you call a muffin a muffin and that's why you call these English muffins. They're different from muffins. We don't call them English.

Speaker: Calling it an English muffin implies that that's what we call a muffin. We don't call it a muffin, do we? ah Wikipedia begs to differ. Of English origin, they are called English muffins to distinguish them from the sweeter cupcake -shaped breads originating from the United States. We don't call those muffins. that thank you all Thank you, Wikipedia. I trust you implicitly.

Speaker: Well, let's go to the next billboard, which is the best in the West. It's going to be another short. Just it just like prepare for Matthew to be wrong. Yep. We're preparing the screenshot from the YouTube videos we speak.

Speaker: and It's fine. I deserve it. I'm going to chuckle that that one rhymes and he sees Christy's clown college billboard and he goes, you can't eat that. You can't eat that. So we come back to Homer and Homer has bought everything that was on the billboards, including a big bag of MSG.

Speaker: I love that. Just a sack of MSG with the scoop in it. Yeah, it's even got the scoop which is great. he's going to do have he's done everything except he's not going to enroll in that clown college because that advertising had no effect on him so we can see to homer daydreaming of himself asleep and then his daydream of him Sleeping.

Speaker: dreaming of him eating a sandwich. But it's knocked away from the side of the dancing clowns. And then Lenny comes over to point out that the sector he's supposed to be monitoring is on fire. oboe does not see a lady he sees Clown bloody dancing. Lenny the Clown. Then four clowns come in and start dancing for almost an amusement. Turns out how he's actually for his co -workers on fire.

Speaker: no one's response to this is just clowns are funny Yeah, this is fucking haunting. Yeah, it's a little bit weird. So we cut to the dinner table, and this is very unsettling. Almost piling up a big pile of mashed potato. Everyone in the family's looking at him like, what the hell is happening? It's a reference to, oh fuck, what's it called? Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Close Encounters, thank you. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker: when he makes the the mountain Homer is making a ten circus tent out of a mashed potato. And Lisa tentatively goes. Well, Roger's response is, I think I'll go get a glass of wine.

Speaker: Yeah. I like Homer's little stuck out concentration tongue as well. Because I do that. I do that. I was very impressed by the little mashed potato flag that he made at the top. That is impressive. Yeah, that took that took work. That took work, that.

Speaker: Sober looks up and he sees his entire family dressed as Christies. advertising with the clown college and uh tentatively ask Marge a Marge. His response is... Yes, homie. And Albert stands up and goes, you people have stood in my way long enough. I'm going to clown college.

Speaker: Yeah. I don't think any of us expected him to say that. that is just there's a random line that lives in my brain But sure. We are good to go. Marge dressing Homer for Clam College and she says...

Speaker: Hold still and don't squirm in Homer's responses. I am holding still. I am holding still. I am squirming.

Speaker: So. Bart says it would be sacrilege for Homer to pretend to be crusty because he invented the pie fight, the pratfall and the salsa bottle. as far as bots are worth. yeah And then Lisa says, it was bad enough when you tried to pretend to be Tom Bosley.

Speaker: You would. You weren't complaining when I got you this close to Chachi. Vast response of that is, what the hell is chatting? I believe she was an actress. yeah i'm not I've not looked into this. I do not know what a chat she is.

Speaker: then We cut to the Clown College which is taking place in William Nelson's former home. What? It's that old song. Oh okay, fair enough. So Krusty says there can only be one Krusty in each territory. So he hopes this works out. And he asks everyone to tell him on the phone.

Speaker: We got Georgia. Texas? A man who's clearly from Texas going, uh, Brooklyn? than mr Brooklyn. A bloke from New Hampshire and then Herbert goes, oh my... We cut to the next scene and everyone's putting on their baggy pants and Christy gets outraged because Homer's pants fit him perfectly.

Speaker: Which Herpoint Helmer goes. He's never had a more comfortable pair of pants in his life. i love that one yeah We cut to Krusty doing the funny names which include Kookamunga And, uh...

Speaker: While I wasn't. That immediately made me laugh. I'm fucking child. and walla walla and then Seattle and the homer is out Like Matt. completely losing all composure it's like Seattle Chrissy then points out that it's time for these the bicycle trick and he says it's a great piece of buffoonery if you pull it off but if you don't you look like a fool yeah Oh no, I'm going to look like a fool. So Homer takes the trick first of all and just goes immediately through. through the ramp.

Speaker: Mm hmm. Just the in next scene says... ah the The phone stops when the wealthy dowager comes in and then... It doesn't, because he throws a pie in her face. I like Homer's, Homer's right. Kill wealthy dowager. I'm pretty certain Christy did, because her head goes through the fucking wall. God, that wall fucking crunches.

Speaker: Homer's got some of the foam from the pie splattered on his head as well. then we see uh I'm going to try that the D. bicycle trick again but this time his pants get caught and his entire horse is out Burn that seat.

Speaker: Let me see, Christy. showing off the christy brown balloons but points out if you get a cheap one it'll go off and take the eyeballs out of every kid and what will that cost you Then ask the accountant, hey, what did that cost us? I love that he cheaped out on his own balloons. I'm going to try the cycle trick one more time. and the thing just caves around him that's very good Yeah, I've said before, Homer's...

Speaker: Always an excellent. compliment to visual comedy and yeah it's an episode about clowns it's all visual comedy so it just works really well so We then see Homer put on his crusty outfit and... You don't spare his butt for his, uh...

Speaker: I haven't told you guys that I studied clowning. no you did not no yeah i went to clown college no i did it i think you should have started with that one i did i did a term in uni.

Speaker: on the French art that led to clowning. So was the water or the flour your major then? which It wasn't my - No, I did the tiny bicycle. Did you? Yeah, I was... i was i was Yeah, you failed to notice the trick happening.

Speaker: With the episode side. Well, he did it so expertly that I didn't notice. I don't know what to say. You don't see that graduation day has arrived and... chrissy says you're off to go do kids parties swap meets and all the crap that i wouldn't touch of about a clown ball Now come get your gas. A 10 -foot crown pole. Yeah. So he says, come get your cat skins, which he actually meant sheep skins.

Speaker: Is that a thing? did with with but Diplomas used to be on... Cheapskins? I don't get the joke. Yeah, no, I wasn't familiar with that either. I think they are having some form of special parchment. or they were supposed to be.

Speaker: Well, I'm guessing it might have. Might have been sheepskin. But um obviously animal rights and things are better. Bye bye. Kill the practice. this I guess so. Yeah, no, I'm completely unfamiliar with this practice, if if it is or was a practice, yeah. Sheepskin certificate. I wasn't saying sheep for a really long time because I kept mistyping it.

Speaker: Yeah. You forgot how many E's were in sheep. So Krusty has hidden a buzzer in his hand and everybody that comes up gets shocked, including the man that declares this is the happiest day of his life.

Speaker: moment snatches the diploma of christine goes no shot for me and christy goes oh yeah and starts chasing him down We don't see Christy Tackles. i just Yeah, it's fucking brutal. Just shocking him over and over.

Speaker: I did laugh at that sort of visual gag. And I love this next. This next bit. so Okay, so a sheepskin is just a... It's a colloquial term. Oh. a diploma certificate awarded by an educational institution while sheepskin colloquially refers to the same highlighting its traditional material oh no so yeah traditional material so it was really They used to make us. skills Why?

Speaker: Yeah, good question. i've got I've got to go find my god joe find my universe. It's difficult to be a little. I don't even fucking know what mine is So we see go to the next scene and we're outside of Christy Burger and...

Speaker: The MC reveals that they're about to to introduce their new burger, the one with ketchup. one chip and uh christy's coming in by parachute and we just hear the sound of homer yelling and straight you could see this bit From fucking space.

Speaker: And it was still hilarious. So Chrissie falls through the burgers and we let you see the parachute land on the top. I'm across from him and he's like heheheheh So.

Speaker: Homer then reads out his cue card, which is, to audience, I now proclaim as burger for sale. hit to audience so the mc tells him to uh Do some cartwheels and Homer does them very poorly.

Speaker: and Yeah, when he did the loop -de -loop symbol, I thought it was going to be the... um The bike. The bike again, and I thought that was going to be a running gag, but it... isn't. that homer does this poor cock it comes back it comes back homer does this poor cock also wait sorry if homer was so fucking bad at everything how did he graduate I don't think Christie had a very high... I think it was one of those schools where everyone graduates. I think as soon as the check cleared, everyone was fine.

Speaker: Yeah. So then we see. A midget come out in his... er in his uh burger outfit and uh The child goes, oh, it's the crusty burglar. oma alex I'm genuinely surprised this wasn't liable. Because that just is the Hamburglar. Yeah.

Speaker: So Homer's response to this is... No, it's the Krusty Burglar. My apologies. Sorry. but so hope So he starts going to the fake burgers and Homer thinks he's actually trying to steal the burgers. So Homer jumps on him and starts beating the absolute shit out of him as the MC's trying to fight him. This was but brutal. The MC's just like, no, Homer, this is an act.

Speaker: So we didn't go to the... the kids looking Also, returning character, the Estonian Dwarf. I love the fact that's his name. Yeah, because he plays Lisa. yeah yeah so We go to the horrified children and one kid going, stuff stop, stop, he's already ready dead.

Speaker: So Homer's dragged away by the Christie Burger workers and... the emsey goes er christ de cloudud everybody has The Oh, the nervous clapping. Then the Estonian dwarf just goes... Please look at my medical alert bracelet. What the fuck man?

Speaker: Yeah, I think... i think they went back and forth on this one because like it was it was a bit much uh but nope nope they they went with it anyway yeah i'm glad they did because um as bad as it is i do find it Yeah, it was...

Speaker: It was a joke Matt Grening apparently himself had a trouble with, yeah. David Merkin wanted the scene to be violent. Silverman thought the the finished scene was a bit too realistic, but they they went with it anyway. I don't remember, of course, the Estonian dwarf being beaten up by a clown, so I don't think how realistic it actually can be.

Speaker: I mean, just the level of violence. Homer smashing a guy's face into the ground. Yeah, he is literally laid in like a pool of his own blood. Yeah. We then cut to Milhouse's birthday party and...

Speaker: Elmo comes into his a a custom Christy car, crashes into a tree, and is slowly ejected from the car. Quite a brutal way to enter. The bartender. We don't see Homer. making some very incompetent balloon animals and he gives his uh giraffing ralph who goes there's your giraffe little little girl and ralph goes i'm a boy And Hobo's response is, never give up.

Speaker: Homer is pro -trans. Hell yeah. Apparently so, yeah. the male I think that's the thing though, isn't it? It's like, Homer's too stupid to be... A bigot. oh Do you know what I mean? Yeah, yeah. You say that. well There's an episode, but very much.

Speaker: we'll we'll go but We'll get there at the time. We will get there, but yes, no, youre you are correct quite right. There is an episode around which that is the central theme, yes. Oh, great. yeah I love when large companies tackle modern issues.

Speaker: Yeah. So Milhouse is bragging about getting Chrissy to come to his birthday party and the pot goes, yeah, I think I could get him. and Miles goes, my dad's a pretty big wheel at the k cracker factory. Is this the first mention of the crack effect? I think so, yeah. No, no, with we have the thing where... Milhouse goes to the Cracker Factory. I think we've had that bit. Wasn't that the box factory?

Speaker: it's When... Oh, night no, we've not had it yet. No, I'm telling you a lie. We've not had the DMV one have we yet? Where Bart gets a driving license. no and in it other times No, no, So.

Speaker: We don't see that... ah I was dancing and the kids are just going like. eggs at him And he then sits down and says, it's not 5 .30 yet. It's not 5 .30. God, it' so it's so real.

Speaker: Like, i' I've known a few people that have had to do that kind of job, and it's like... Yeah, man, i I... I would kill those children. i would still them i I would be on the news.

Speaker: Thelma gets back up and keeps dancing and he's very weary. we don't see that homer has not actually quit the power plant at this time he's just working as christy Yeah, he's just in costume all the time. He's a side hustle now, yeah. And he goes, hey, that's some nice friends. And Homer said,

Speaker: Thomas is tired because he's got to go. Dedicate a new Jiffy Lube and host me. Asa Watson. Lenny's very impressed by Jiffy Lube. I've now been to a Jiffy Lube! Really? yeah ah We had to change ah the oil during Route 66. so you went to a jiffy lube it was the only place like nearby that was like quote -unquote trustworthy. Hmm.

Speaker: Yeah, that's that's a weird kind of like... joke that i feel like i've heard a lot of times i don't really like actually stop to like fully appreciate it till now where it's like yeah okay he's doing two things one of them's boring and one of them's like hosting some awards and the one like he's impressed by his dedication yeah Mama starts lamenting his fate and says when he saw of this clown thing he thought he'd get nothing but glory. The glory of being a clown. And then Hubbard says... then he sees the smiles of all those little faces he knows they're getting ready to jab him or something Yeah, I'm just going getting ready to stab me with something.

Speaker: So we're at the Ace Awards and Dick Calvert is... is hosting and What is the Ace Awards? I didn't don't forget to get don't think it's a real thing. Okay. Because again, I was like, it can't be asexual.

Speaker: It can't be that. It can't be that. so So it's, I think it's clearly like daytime television, but like. yeah I didn't know. I think, I genuinely do think sometimes we need an American on this show.

Speaker: i mean i've just quickly googled it but unfortunately i think the acronym is Common enough that there are probably a few things. called Ace Awards. Hello? I think there's one here that's just celebrating excellence. Excellence in what field is unclear immediately, if I'm completely honest with you. Oh, it's television network.

Speaker: Is it? Okay. Yeah, Ace Television Network. Fair enough. so i think here's the whole thing he says I know Woody Allen and everyone. sort of half -heartedly collapsed that. And then... ah Hello, SSTs. Hey, it's a purple.

Speaker: announce the winner for the most promising new series on cable, which is Old Starsky and Watch Episodes. And the guy that's coming to accept the award is the son of the guy who played Donkey Bear. My dad fucking loves Starsky and Hutch.

Speaker: So Dick is trying to befriend Homer and they're off to the same gig to distract balls at rodeo. nobody's trying to get away from him and he goes Dick's telling you a story about how he had dinner with Groucho and everyone tells him, you'll be having dinner with Groucho tonight. What did the writers of Simpsons have against Dick Cavett, man?

Speaker: yeah like they have since noted that this is probably the meanest they have ever been to a guest star but like i think kevin like was kind of okay fine with doing it yeah yeah he's a guest star that's great he's doing a guest voice But yeah, he he turned up just to be apparently bullied by the Simpsons. Someone obviously had it in for him.

Speaker: So we see Homer driving home and Homer says, that being a clown sucks and... It gets kicked by kids, bit by dogs and admired by the elderly. And and admired by the elderly. He declares that he's leaving the clowning business to all the other clowns in the clowning business. and because Because he has no business being a clown. So the police siren goes off and...

Speaker: Wiggum's about to give him the biggest ticket he's ever seen then confuses him for Krusty and I was trying to play that also he's in a different car from a few shots ago. yeah he's in he's in Homer's car and then But before that, he was in like the...

Speaker: you know, tricked out. Christina Deer. so um We can... this is confusing for christy and despite how much i apply it's not christy we can begins reminiscing about the time they got. let beavers loose into the furniture store.

Speaker: But he rips up the ticket and tells Chrissy to take it easy and help her. suddenly realizes he can get free stuff So we cut to the Quickie Mart and Elmer's getting 5 % off everything because he looks like Christy.

Speaker: And a puces. you can't charge more price to them from that The man whose lust for filthy magazines kept him busy during the first shaky years, before giving him his copy of a gigantic asses. I feel like Krusty needs to go to fucking Sex Addicts Anonymous or something, Jesus Christ. I'd get a copy of Jughead and Asus.

Speaker: I don't need one. Already got one. Weeeeee! i don't i have a nice bum though thanks to all the squats i'm doing Why don't you as send me a picture? Oh, look at him. Uh -huh. Hello, HR.

Speaker: I shot a big rust. It's cute that you think that More Man in the Morning podcast has a HR. Because we would have failed that. Mum can you come pick me up they're asking about my bum Yeah.

Speaker: I don't remember what the door was on. You know?

Speaker: That's fair. I deserve this So back to Luigi's restaurant and... i'm gonna start explaining he's getting all the free stuff which includes being given a bucket of paint they have two italian stereotypes in this episode Yeah. They sure do. Sorry, carry on. I Italian stereotype. Homer shows off his bucket of paint and Marge says...

Speaker: i'm not saying it won't work i'm saying it's dishonest because if we agree why are we arguing So... They walk in and Luigi obviously thinks he's Christie and goes, ah, you've got to... ah You've got a beautiful date and lovely kids and...

Speaker: Fast responses. I'm striking him, though. Do it yourself. i liked that i thought that was cute i thought that was a fun because you know i've i've complained in the past about bart's like random add -in lines because i do think they try to sell bart too much But no, I like that one. the whole i what What is the line? I'm more striking than lovely. I thought that was great. I thought that was... Yeah, it was very...

Speaker: It was charming. I guess was is the way to say it was charming. I liked it So Luigi takes the family away because he doesn't want them to sit with the rest of the scum.

Speaker: And everyone one goes, hey, what the hell is that? And he comes back and goes, I only consider you scum compared to Krusty. And everyone goes, oh, okay. That's true. That's fair. If a guy said I was scum, I'd be offended. But if he was like... I consider you scum in comparison to John Candy. I'd be like, all right, you know fat that's fair. Yeah, it's as low as he explains. Yeah, you seem like a scum. I like that if you listen to the the like murmurings as well one of the guys just says I'll have the rigatoni

Speaker: He's like, what? What are we? Oh, well, if if that's the case, I'll have the rigatoni. So he comes back to Christie and he's with the mob again and his accountant has a hell of it.

Speaker: horrified face on he goes as he realizes that he took all the money he made from franchising his name and better against the Harlem Globetrotters. Chrissy's response is that he thought that the generals would too. We don't go to the game and the obviously the guy's just putting the ball on his finger, which really annoys Christy. Before he just boots the ball into the basket.

Speaker: And... but because he finally works out that game might have been rigged because they were using a ladder I don't think it's necessarily a realization. No, I think that's just Krusty complaining. Yep. That is a... Of course, how the Harlem Globetrotters works.

Speaker: It is indeed how the hard drive trotters works, yep. and uh Fat Tony says that the time has come for them to be paid and Christie tells him you could take the clown college and Tony points out We've already taken it. So we see the new teacher doing his thing, which is... a the advice that kids have money so kick kids are rich these days so you should probably rob them and then everyone takes notes

Speaker: It's crap. So Chrissy says, you can't get blood from a turnip. If you want to kill me, kill me. So they start shooting again. Oh, God. Krusty doing the fucking Matrix. So Christy says, we could talk this through. And Fat Tony says, nope, it's time for you to could take a ride. Christy goes, can I go to the bathroom first? And Fat Tony goes, I see no harm in that. We just see a Christy off camera making a mistake, which includes climbing up a window. getting a taxi and getting on to the airport. Which point Legs goes, when he's done in there, I've got to go.

Speaker: Yep, I liked that bit. That was a good bit. We don't see the... ah mob now looking for christy and uh you're going to get a worldwide search which includes going to the east side and roman budapest i thought that yeah again there's certain guest characters that you just when this when you see him you're just like this is gonna be good And when it's Fat Tony, you're just like, yeah. it's yeah yeah no he's great character so we see that uh

Speaker: Homer is actually at the car dealership. and no voice Sorry, who voices Fat Tony? That would be ah Joe Mantegna, who yeah who has stated that he absolutely wants to play Fat Tony every time Fat Tony appears. He will voice him even if he only coughs.

Speaker: i think that's fair do you know honestly i'm surprised because i would have i would have assumed that was another um i always forget his name i can only either remember dan castanella or the guy that plays mo I can only remember one of those names at any a given time.

Speaker: and course And I would have assumed it was it was the guy that played Mo. Similar voice, you know? ah There's one episode where he didn't actually get to play Fat Tony. Banker's area.

Speaker: Yeah, it was ah actually the guy who plays Troy McClure. whose name eludes me immediately. phil hartman yeah i think phil hartman did him for one episode But.

Speaker: and joe Yeah. Yeah. yeah he was like He was like really sick that day. He like came into work covered in like snot and was like pale as shit and they're like no you have to go home it's like no i will play fat tony oh I read something that was, that like, I found another source here that says it was Hank Azaria in that episode, so. Oh, shit. I get it. Maybe. I was trying to get a free car because he's Christy, isn't he?

Speaker: Couldn't erase the point by a playing... I'll only shout in Christie. So the world search is cancelled and... Homer says he wants everything that's coming to Christy the Clown and... The mob are behind a fence and Louie goes... Do you want me to shoot him gangline style, execution style? Follow your heart. Listen to your heart.

Speaker: and the salesman says tells uh christy that uh You can't let him have the car, but you can practically give it to him for 38 grand. This car gets starts getting sp the car starts getting shot up and everyone goes, what are these holes? and this cells Probably one of my favourite lines in the entire fucking... These are speed holes.

Speaker: They make the car go faster. It is very good. Does it make the car go faster? Speed holes. I like that that comes back because it's such a throwaway bit but then they make a bit out of it later. It's so good.

Speaker: but also yeah i don't know like it's one of those things that like All right. I don't - does it have more - cultural weight than i think or is it just me because i definitely have used the phrase speed holes so often it's like oh yeah those are speed holes and everyone just kind of gets what i'm talking about anyway like it weirdly punches above its weight for a gag so the car gets rid of with bullets and the tires go down and the salesman goes i think you should buy this girl

Speaker: You want my opinion? I think you should buy this car. So Fat Tony goes off to go get some more ammo and we see that Christie's in Switzerland. And we see that the bandages ah go off and... Christy's annoyed because he looks exactly the same. but Did you did any of you guys notice that like when he has the bandages on his head is like absurdly long Yeah, just to give you the illusion. Yes.

Speaker: ah Just a note on the former very brief. im not even really much of a gag gag but they run out of ammo and they say let's go to big five which is a sporting goods store. Fox actually objected to that line and then the writers pointed out that actually you can in fact buy ammunition at Big Five and that's just a perfectly normal place to buy ammunition. So they let it go. So Christy.

Speaker: does look 10 years younger and he's got his best son and chrissy says Did you see me complaining about the breasts? i That was funny, yeah. I'm disappointed they didn't keep that for the rest of the episode. He just has tits for the rest of the episode. Yeah, so Christian decides it's good. It would be even if just from now on. Crusty hat. Bazongas. Just forever.

Speaker: So Christie realizes he's got to go back to Springfield to face Steve. music and he asked the doctor to loan him some bus fare and the doctor of course puts it to his cleavage and he's like hey here yeah that was good Can we go back to I will say about the putting the the money in the breast thing and Krusty's reaction.

Speaker: I genuinely think it would have been funnier if you just kind of stared at him. I think Krusty's reaction just didn't... help the joke land in my opinion so i think if he just awkwardly stared at each other that would have been funnier Maybe.

Speaker: Flanders comes over and asks him what he's doing and he says he's putting speed holes in the car and Flanders is very enthusiastic about the prospect and goes ooh maybe the Flanders would be on these ones and then Flanders is of course shocked. And he gets back up and like, I was like.

Speaker: smile every time planters gets back up on this bit and he's just like oh i've got a piece of the bible close to my heart and he gets shot again like oh i've got a piece of this cross and flan's at that point decides he's going inside Yeah, I love - I love the s - the very sharp...

Speaker: Shift in tone. for Flanders there and then he's like I'm going inside and he's just like yeah fair dude you've been shot twice so Helmut's pickaxe gets shot and he goes what keeps doing that I love that it spins also right where Flanders was stood a moment earlier so like he would have been shot as well so we cut back to the fact that he yells at his men that they only bought free money Yeah, we should have bought more than three bullets. I don't think you can even buy singular bullets, so it's even funnier.

Speaker: So they just, of course, just grab Homer and... Elmer's in the limo with his captors and, uh, Elmer points out that he's not Krusty, he's Homer Simpson and, uh... That's when he points out that, oh no.

Speaker: Crush the... his car through the walls of the club and then i'm gonna try to lie that he's barney gumbo but then meg says are you the barney gumbo that's taking pictures of my sister and Then Homer goes with the name Joe Palacci and... but he says that the one that squeal to the senate about organized crime and it's a hell of a pull i was not familiar with that that is literally the guy who basically revealed the ah the existence of the mafia to the american government yeah and uh that was being taken down he tries to claim to be bennington donald and uh

Speaker: Let's then point out that... Same thing to Donald. to surrender west point to the hated british and i was responsible I didn't know... I knew what benedt Benedict Arnold meant.

Speaker: i think actually know what the person did. So now I do. yeah Yeah, likewise. He didn't actually do it in the end because the plot got discovered. ah so he's America's very own Guy Fawkes Yes, he came to england England, I believe. I think we harboured him, but... Everybody hated him.

Speaker: Good lad. well palmer is introduced to the don who was a batario and uh Don Vittorio Di Maggio. Di Maggio. Di Maggio? So how about finally reluctantly accept these? Like Joe Di Maggio? Yeah, I think that's fine. overpa So I'm gonna finally Except that it's Christie and Vittorio points a gun at him and goes, he's sorry to do this. And then he points out that he can't do it because to murder a funny man would be a crime.

Speaker: Why not make me laugh? he says if you do the little bite well there is i again this weirdly enough from this the actual study i did there was like a thing of like if you kill a jester it's considered Like there's something wrong about it. I don't know. I don't know if that's what this is referencing. Yeah, but.

Speaker: I think it was more of the notion that... it It would have been a crime if we... Hold up. Christy for the crime of being funny. no they're just it's not a crime because it's just gonna murder the book If it's riffing on something, I'm not aware of it. No, I don't think i don't i don't think it is.

Speaker: Okay. He tells Homer that so if he does the little bike trick, he'll let him ah live. under and my tries to say he can't do it he gets the gunpowder that means what if i just wrote you with the flower then he gets the gunpoint at him again And then we see Homer being set up and...

Speaker: almost starts wheeling then the triumphant music starts playing and someone's like oh i'm doing it i'm doing it And then we just get the image of ah from Homer's point of view of him going upside down. The gangsters are looking very happy then. the The trick obviously not working and their faces of disappointment. His rolls back the way he came, yeah. I'm going to try to do it. week ta -da and then talk to you soon The fact that you did not the trick do the trick well is the biggest insult.

Speaker: Christie finally comes in and goes... Oh, you play your game. of Cat and mouse, I'll go. But legs are standing in the way and he goes, I'm seeing double here. Boa Crusties! v And Helmer thinks Christy's here to save him because he's like, yeah, sure.

Speaker: Like, weirdly, they did play up Krusty's features here to differentiate him from Homer, but, like, I don't know. I can't tell the difference still. I mean, Krusty's got the actual hair on the top of his head. whereas No, I mean, I can't tell the difference between what...

Speaker: I couldn't tell that they played up Krusty's features. Oh, I see. His, like...

Speaker: facial hair line is a bit more pronounced okay i think the the lines around his eyes are a bit more make him look a bit more aged and tired than he usually looks but yeah batario apologizes to homer because he almost made a grievous error then he says goodbye christy christy says he can't kill anyone if he doesn't know who the real christy is they do a hey yeah yeah Yeah. Real life show game. Good job, Krusty. So Vittoria goes, hi, I'm confusing. chris i because her Good job, Krusty. It's just, you know... The Pretoria declares that they...

Speaker: They will both die. Unless they do the loop. Together. so we don't need them on the bike as they're going towards it and but homer because he panics, covers up Christie's eyes, so they miss it. Christie goes up onto the pool table and pots every ball, which the gaffers go, ooh.

Speaker: then I loved the, um when they... when he's banging his head on the glasses and it does the fucking godfather a tune it's great i just like the i did not realize that was the other tune they just do the ah Then Christy has to squirt down the... air the bar stand and uh everyone starts clapping vittorio's not impressed he just goes here about the loop it's nothing so they end up on the stool they do a couple of spins then end up in the path to the Loop, and they do the loop perfectly.

Speaker: almost multiple times they just go round and around almost steals the eating the bike bit and he does the little bell ring And the gangsters are happy. So, Vitario, thanks, sir.

Speaker: Just leave a big negate. great joy to the old italian stereotype and flex goes no he goes no no i am i am and uh because he's like we're even now and he goes nope we don't we just won't kill you then he tells him He always still owes the money. Which turns out to be $48.

Speaker: would Yeah, what the fuck? You owe him $48? And then he gives him change! Yep, so Christy gives him a $50 bill so he gets two back and you gotta settle up and that's it. Yep, that's it. And I was perfectly happy with that.

Speaker: It just fucking ends, man. but That's fine. I... yeah i I really like the mob bits. of this episode. they i find them quite funny i mean overall i i think it's a good episode overall off It is. Nice great episode. I really liked this episode.

Speaker: Mhm. It goes to some odd places, but it's on the whole. Pretty entertaining. ah I don't don't know if it goes a much deeper than that. if it was like I don't know how much we can dig into this. No, I don't think this has anything to say about society. It really doesn't. It's it's clowns. what Clowns are funny. We got this right from the start. I have some tiny notes, but yeah, it's not like the first episode.

Speaker: Well, you're out of homers. I ah gave it a... today I gave it a... It gets an eating a tiny bicycle out of Homer. Somehow, still funny. Jump! I gave it Eating a Bicycle out of Homer because it was a simple everyday comedy. I gave it Kill the Dow which was out of Homer because that's the peak of comedy.

Speaker: Right. Matt, what did it say about society sleeping in your boots? what What did you tease out of this one? going i think it is I think it is trying to say something about celebrities and their vapid nature.

Speaker: That. that doesn't in any way match up with their screen personality. They've done that kind of thing with Krusty before, but obviously there is the very... pretty like it it has only gotten worse that celebrities will use their name to sell something that has nothing to fucking do with them So I think there is that.

Speaker: But I don't. I don't think it's screaming that us that's at us. I think that's just a part of it. Yeah, I mean... Krusty was always intended to be sort of a ah take on Jerry Lewis, was it? i' I don't know whether Jerry Lewis monetized his brand to this six extent. I don't. believe he likely did. I'm honestly struggling to imagine what exactly.

Speaker: they are riffing on with this level of like merchandising. I can't think of anything that is like as extensively. done in to this extent like that that that could be tied to like a specific celebrity like you get like brands and things but For it to be one person? I don't know.

Speaker: What's the real world analogue here? I don't know. I think it's it's just taking it to the extreme because it's a thing of like, what the fuck does... Dwayne and The Rock Johnson have to do with fucking whiskey?

Speaker: What does Ryan Reynolds have to do with vodka? Yeah, he also has his own energy drink. oh i mean i i work in making drinks i know every celebrity has to have their own drink but also like even that's like not the same it's just they're all just trying basically i can tell you what the fucking drinks thing is George Clooney bought Casamigos tequila.

Speaker: George Clooney sold Casamigos tequila to Diageo, one of the biggest drinks companies in the world. for Oh, Ryan Reynolds did the same thing with his vodka recently. i think like I think it was like a billion dollars. um So everybody's gone, shit, what if I get a drinks brand and sell it to Diageo for a billion dollars?

Speaker: Yeah, that said, Ryan Reynolds did the same thing. Good for him. Get that back, I guess. Yeah, he he did a he had the Aviation Gin for a while and I guess sold it. probably for a lot of money, I assume. Right, let's wrap this up because I absolutely am gonna fucking die if my eyes aren't already floating.

Speaker: Okay, right. Shill your stuff. What have we got to show? Spooky Tales is coming out in October. It is a video game that I am voicing in. I am so fucking excited about it.

Speaker: Go check out the trailer on Steam right now. That is one of the most exciting things to me ever, that I'm going to be one of the lead characters in a... video game that you can buy with real money.

Speaker: I also do a podcast with John called All for Arnold, where we're watching all of the Arnold Schwarzenegger films. in Order. Eh. By the time this episode comes out, hopefully I will have edited and released the latest episode, which is Twins. which I think we both had a great time ah watching in our own Ways because me and John never agree.

Speaker: on the film. Ever. I don't think we've ever agreed. pro completely on a film. So that's always fun for me. Other than that, I don't think there's anything... I think we've agreed that some of his forgettable...

Speaker: slop. from the mid -80s was, like, forgettable stuff from the mid -80s. I think we agreed on, like... raw deal and um yeah and that was exactly what i was thinking about yeah yeah raw raw deal is not great But yeah, I don't think I have anything else I can talk about because I i genuinely have NDAs, which is like a first in my life.

Speaker: But yeah, I also have a blue sky that I post on a lot called... at Matt perspective. um Which obviously is where I'll probably drop any and all of my voice acting stuff. Yeah, there you go.

Speaker: Michael? Yep, you can find me if you feel inclined on Blue Sky at Buttermash Horse. Thank you very much for everybody that engages with the podcast. If you like to. explore more of us we are obviously on youtube where you found us but uh All the versions pre -Season 3. What if they didn't?

Speaker: Yep. You know, maybe. you maybe you found a son Apple or... You found us somewhere else. We're on YouTube. Spotify or Apple. If you found us on YouTube, we are more than in the morning.

Speaker: John stop slowing him down. I really need to pee Okay. no love but let's have Let's have a chat. No, I will leave. I will leave. How have you been? How have you been? Let's have a 15 minute diversion about the state of the American economy. No, I need to pee so bad.

Speaker: so Tell me about whales and the heat waves. I'm going to shoot you both. Follow me on BlueSky and morocca .bsky .social. I've got YouTube videos at youtube .com forward slash button mash. Are you still working on that video you hinted at a while ago? absolutely fucking okay fair enough john tell me about this one like i keep tell me about this video in detail

Speaker: i keep occasionally thinking should i revisit it but also i think other people have basically tackled the same topic multiple times already this year and i'm like ah i genuinely love your videos i do wish you'd do more but i obviously also understand that it's not profitable and not worth your time so I started filling my time with ah running a game of Lancer, so those are my hours taken up these days.

Speaker: Yeah. Hell yeah. um i'm I'm a DM these days. somehow for my sins. Cool. Bye. Thanks for listening. Thanks for watching, whichever one you did. We'll see you next time. Bye. e Bye, everybody.
