Cameron Resner: Welcome to the Cosmic Kimono podcast. I'm Cameron. This is your host, Cameron Reznor.
Callum Jackson: Your host, Cameron Reznor. but you who Your host, your host for tonight, Cameron Reznor and Callum Jackson. um
Cameron Resner: Can you see, see? No re!
Callum Jackson: CCCJ.
Cameron Resner: Yeah,
Callum Jackson: But um I was wondering what you were going to play at the start.
Cameron Resner: ah yeah I didn't have anything set up. I was... I was going to play my screaming when I jumped down the ladder behind you on Ark Raiders, but I couldn't get that sorted in time.
Callum Jackson: Did you like that video?
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: The scream was cracking me up. But, yeah, I was trying to get one continuous scream, but it was so hard.
Cameron Resner: They need to be molded together.
Callum Jackson: um Yeah, but good times.
Cameron Resner: How have you been?
Callum Jackson: Very well. I mean, we've been smashing Battlefield, haven't we?
Cameron Resner: Yeah, so much Battlefield.
Callum Jackson: Yeah, we love it.
Cameron Resner: I think I've got five hours.
Callum Jackson: It's all ready on it. Yeah. I think you've got four.
Cameron Resner: Did you check?
Callum Jackson: did.
Cameron Resner: Oh, the five hours was a guess. That wasn't too bad.
Callum Jackson: Oh, God. Yeah, no, I did check because... Sorry to disappoint anyone, this is actually going to be the Ark Raiders podcast, not the battlefield.
Cameron Resner: Got you!
Callum Jackson: There's not quite a theme for There is, but there's many. It's kind of like the finals with loads of different music playing about.
Cameron Resner: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Made by Battlefield developers.
Callum Jackson: But... Yes, and ah finals fame.
Cameron Resner: So.
Cameron Resner: Yes.
Callum Jackson: My other favourite shooter at the moment.
Cameron Resner: Mm.
Callum Jackson: But we'll get into it with Battlefield and Ark. That is what we're talking to today.
Cameron Resner: Yes, that is.
Callum Jackson: Talking to? Talking about. But
Cameron Resner: Why do you want to start with Battlefield, given this?
Callum Jackson: I'm going to quickly relate something back to Ark.
Cameron Resner: Or do you need to bus? Yeah. Okay.
Callum Jackson: but so It was in my head because we had this conversation before. We were talking about things that were not quite there with this latest battlefield. But then we related it to other games where we went, maybe map design is a big part of it, like why shooters aren't as fun.
Cameron Resner: Yes.
Callum Jackson: And now playing Ark, I can confirm that map design is very good in that game.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: Like all the maps are great.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: And I know it's a different game, so I'm not comparing them there, but I'm saying like for an online shooter sort of experience and they're still on maps. like ARK's ones are just designed so well. They're so fun to go around and play in like over and over again.
Cameron Resner: I definitely agree, yeah i think
Callum Jackson: Which is what I didn't get with Battlefield.
Cameron Resner: yeah. I think there's still so much of the maps that we haven't explored as well.
Callum Jackson: Yes.
Cameron Resner: so
Callum Jackson: It feels like...
Cameron Resner: I went on the Buried City yesterday by myself, and I was like went just, like, that's a small map, and I went to this part of the map, was like, I've just never been here before.
Callum Jackson: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: Yeah, no, I'm still getting it.
Cameron Resner: Mm-hmm.
Callum Jackson: I think we've both played similar hours now. I mean, most of it's been together, but we've got like 20 hours. i've already I'm at my Battlefield playtime. And that's been out, what, what a month?
Cameron Resner: Has
Callum Jackson: Over a month now? About a month, hasn't it? Yeah, yeah, it is. Like October 10th it came out, so it's about a month almost.
Cameron Resner: this been a week?
Callum Jackson: And ARK has been, a week yesterday, first last Thursday think it was.
Cameron Resner: Jesus Christ.
Callum Jackson: So we've already caught up on ours. Now, I don't think Battlefield is a bad game.
Cameron Resner: Goddamn.
Callum Jackson: I will say that.
Cameron Resner: No?
Callum Jackson: But I don't know. Ark just feels like this new thing that I've never played and it's gripped us.
Cameron Resner: Hmm.
Callum Jackson: Like, I haven't done extraction shooters.
Cameron Resner: Okay.
Callum Jackson: And I did enjoy DMZ on COD, but they kind of killed that off. And I bet they're fucking regretting that now. ah
Cameron Resner: Yes.
Callum Jackson: But yeah, this is just how it's done. Like, you can tell this company cares. And that's coming from someone who plays the finals as well.
Cameron Resner: Agreed.
Callum Jackson: they They've got a good team. behind them and I think even though this game was meant to be free to play I think you're getting more than your money's worth for £32 I mean I bought the Deluxe and so did you but even then i still think I've got my money's worth already yeah
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Cameron Resner: No, they're really, yeah, we'll get into the detail, but I think overall they're solid studio and it's quite interesting because I think we've seen a couple of games this year. I think the other one was Claire Obscure where it's come out from a team that's left big publisher to do something because they feel like the publisher's not taking risks or doing anything new anymore.
Callum Jackson: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: Yeah. No, it was like that.
Cameron Resner: So, and I mean, Arc Raiders, everyone loves it and Clear Obscure is great. So hopefully we see more of these.
Callum Jackson: Yeah. I haven't heard anything negative on ARK yet. I mean, I get people, it might not be their thing.
Cameron Resner: No. Yeah.
Callum Jackson: That's for sure. Like one of our friends, that he he doesn't like these kinds of games, so that's fair. But even for me, like I wasn't really, I didn't feel, like when i when I heard this game went from the PVE to an extraction shooter, I did roll my eyes and i was like, fuck, they've killed it.
Cameron Resner: Mm-hmm.
Callum Jackson: And it's come out and I'm like, I would not have it any other way.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: That has like really made this game.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: like what it is.
Cameron Resner: Yeah. It's
Callum Jackson: Yeah. It makes it, it really does. And even though, you know, you lose loot and shit, if you die, I still think I'm not like pissed off. Like I'm, I'm annoyed that I'm like, Oh God, I just lost a lot of good stuff, but it just makes me want to go back in and get it.
Cameron Resner: and
Cameron Resner: Yeah, I feel like it makes it easy.
Callum Jackson: It's
Cameron Resner: It's not it' not difficult to kind of get your stuff back, but it's like you you kind of want to go in and pick up stuff.
Callum Jackson: no,
Cameron Resner: Like there's a few, as I said, there's a few times where I've just gone in by myself just with the aim of just I'm just going to get some metal and then leave basically.
Callum Jackson: Yeah.
Cameron Resner: And you can do it all very quickly. Like it's so smooth.
Callum Jackson: Yeah. And it does, it does feel like that too, where it's like you, you, because you don't have to spend so much time on it. And another good thing that I realized is, you know, if one of us was like, Oh, I'm going for dinner now, or I'm leaving, you can, you can just go to the extraction by yourself.
Callum Jackson: So there's no like, oh, i need to I need to dedicate so much time to this.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: You can literally just hop on even a 10-minute match, if you know five minutes. like You could honestly fit in a good session in 10 minutes, running around, getting the bits that you were trying to find and leave, especially on Buried City, which is the smallest map.
Cameron Resner: Yeah. I think it threads... Yeah, I think it threads the needle quite well between single player and a multiplayer game. Like, I can't remember the last multiplayer game that i would want to sit there by myself.
Callum Jackson: It does.
Cameron Resner: Maybe COD 2019 when, like, shipment.
Callum Jackson: Yeah.
Cameron Resner: But that was...
Callum Jackson: Yeah.
Cameron Resner: Yeah, I mean, that was...
Callum Jackson: I mean, I i said that Soph. I was like, when when was the last time that you knew that I sat there and wanted to get back onto an online game, but even if it was by myself?
Cameron Resner: Mm-hmm.
Callum Jackson: And it definitely is a weird case that this game has done that because it feels like you're going in single player. But another thing is I don't talk to people online. Like I've never really put a mic on.
Callum Jackson: When you guys aren't online and I go on it, I have my mic on and I talk in proxy chat, which I never do.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: But that there's something about this community that I'm like, oh, I'll give them a try and I'll speak to them. And it's turned out quite well sometimes. And it's been quite fun to know. And it it adds that tense moment of like, are you friendly or are you not?
Cameron Resner: Mm-hmm.
Callum Jackson: But I think like at the end of the day, it's like you can't trust anyone. But I normally do. I'm just like, yeah, whatever. We're cool. But... turning into a cold-blooded killer by you guys
Cameron Resner: Yes. ah Shall we chat a bit about Battlefield, maybe briefly, and then we maybe go into the detail.
Callum Jackson: yeah well no we can now i think yeah we can like sort of just talk about both i reckon i think that's fine to sort of go in about but i mean we can kind of relate them as well
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Cameron Resner: Okay. so So what are you liking about Battlefield?
Callum Jackson: What am I like about Battlefield? I think, because we haven't even played it like for a week now, but again, Raiders has taken over. But um the I think what I like about Battlefield is, unlike 2042 where I felt lied to with this one, I do still feel like it's a return to form and it does play great.
Callum Jackson: It sounds great. It it looks great. like It is fun to play. Um, and I think like, it was just, I thought it would bring us all more together, but it hasn't. And Ark has done that.
Callum Jackson: Like it's bit upsetting, but like, I thought like for years, like we wanted a new shooter, but kind of playing it like I didn't,
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: It's not a bad game. It's just I don't feel the the scratch to like, oh, I need to dive in. I need to like unlock those guns. I need to do some challenges.
Cameron Resner: yeah
Callum Jackson: like I haven't got that at all in this game. And on all the Battlefields, I think only... No, no, it's been going on for a while now, like at least since Battlefield V. I can't really remember anything before that. But I just don't think EA knows how to sell skins.
Callum Jackson: I've never enjoyed any of their skins. And I saw this game's skins on the store. And I just, not that they're awful or whatever, but even if they were great, I just, I've never, never wanted to dive in and buy it.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Cameron Resner: I know. I agree with that.
Callum Jackson: Like even COD, I've bought some Battle Passes in the, yeah.
Cameron Resner: was going to say, even like, and like as much as you yeah can hate on COD, they know how to sell people's stuff. and make I mean, I probably spent like 200 quid on COD over the past five years.
Callum Jackson: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: But I think like the finals now, like obviously I play a lot.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: I think I've spent £200 on that. and that they But the customisation is so good on that.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: But it also suits the sort of game show that they're going for. So I don't mind crazy skins. it just you know We've already spoke about this. like I like skins suiting what I'm in.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: And again, i just don't think EA or whoever's doing it can't get them right.
Cameron Resner: I don't know.
Cameron Resner: yeah And I don't know why they just don't add an option for you just not to see them. Like people, aren like, yeah, i was going to say when I'm wearing the skin, I'm not thinking, i don't know, people, other people might think this, but I'm not thinking I can't wait for people to see me like this.
Callum Jackson: Yeah. Because really, who's that hurting?
Cameron Resner: I'm just like, I'm just in a cool, ah I'm just wearing this skin.
Callum Jackson: Yeah, that's exactly how I feel.
Cameron Resner: Right.
Callum Jackson: Like, it's not really for other people. And if anything, it's for us a lot, right? Like, we're like, oh, look at us.
Cameron Resner: Yeah, exactly. That's what mean, yeah.
Callum Jackson: Yeah.
Cameron Resner: So it should be like, you should be able to like squad on everyone else off or yeah, something like that.
Callum Jackson: so
Cameron Resner: And I feel like that would just solve, like, because then people would find COD more bearable, with the ones that it would like work for everyone.
Callum Jackson: Yeah.
Cameron Resner: I feel like that.
Callum Jackson: Yeah, no, I agree. I think...
Cameron Resner: Strange.
Callum Jackson: Yeah, because I would probably... I mean, I don't even know anymore, to be honest. Like, I think maybe... those type of shooters aren't really what i want to spend all my time on.
Callum Jackson: ah Maybe that time's passed. Like maybe it's a me thing as well. But again, it's not like I'm not having fun on it. Um, when I do play, but I think, yeah, I do have to say like a negative about it though.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: Like all those skins and that aside, I think my main negative is the maps at the moment. I don't actually particularly like them that much.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: Um,
Cameron Resner: i
Callum Jackson: they like New York feels really small and like every breakthrough map feels like a funnel and it just, that's not fun.
Cameron Resner: Yeah, there's something not quite right about them. I saw a video the other day.
Callum Jackson: Yeah.
Cameron Resner: It was like, finally, we got a big map. And it was just like in Portal, they'd basically taken the Battle Royale map and carved it up.
Callum Jackson: Yeah. And that map looks great, doesn't it? And I'm, I'm wondering why is that not just being,
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Cameron Resner: It's clearly where they put... Yeah.
Callum Jackson: yeah But, yeah because people didn't ask or want that.
Cameron Resner: Which is annoying.
Callum Jackson: It's another weird case where they've gone, ah we've got like we've made the the foundation so good of this game.
Cameron Resner: No...
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: Let's chase trends again.
Cameron Resner: but How many times have they tried a Battle Royale now? Like three?
Callum Jackson: Like, Firestorm, yeah, I think, but I think this is what's funny.
Cameron Resner: Four?
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: Firestorm came out around the time that, like, Fortnite, PUBG, that was all popping off, I believe, like, 2018, I think that was it.
Cameron Resner: Yeah. Because I mean even cod like COD started with Black Ops 3 or 4 in that black cell or something.
Callum Jackson: Yeah, with Blackout.
Cameron Resner: Yeah, Blackout. Yeah.
Callum Jackson: Yeah, Blackout. But then the fact that they tried Firestorm, no one played, it was dead on arrival.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: Then 2042 came. Also, they didn't make it free. I want to point that out. like You had to buy the game to play this Battle Royale. Meanwhile, every other Battle Royale that was popping off was free.
Cameron Resner: What's for you?
Callum Jackson: um And then in 2042, they made an extraction shooter game mode.
Cameron Resner: Oh, yeah, I forgot about
Callum Jackson: it wasn't even about, it wasn't even a battle royale. So then they failed in that aspect as well.
Cameron Resner: that.
Callum Jackson: And, and then all in the meantime of that, cause clearly that game, um came out and now that I found out around the development time of arc radars.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: And it's like now arcs out and then they've gone back to battle royale, but battle royale is kind of falling off. Like I don't hear people really craving or going on about battle royales anymore.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: Um,
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: And then then and now they've done that. And all I hear online, because I haven't even bothered to try it, but all I hear online is it feels like, or it's similar to Call of Duties, but like the first Water Zone in 2019 20, whenever that one came out.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: And I'm like, okay, so I don't need to play that.
Cameron Resner: Yeah, I've played that.
Callum Jackson: Yeah, I just... It doesn't do anything. I mean, I've never really been a big fan of Battle Royale, but it's annoying to see that the efforts have gone into that when it's like, you've got a great thing called Portal, which other games don't do, which would take off if you put more...
Cameron Resner: Yeah, they definitely shouldn't. They at least shouldn't have done it like in the first year.
Callum Jackson: I just...
Cameron Resner: They should have just focused on giving a good initial game, which is, I think, what they always have failed at multiple times now.
Callum Jackson: No. Yeah. Yes.
Callum Jackson: Yes.
Cameron Resner: It's just like giving a good experience out of the out of the box. It's always like, oh, yeah, 2042 gets good after a year, or Battlefield was good after a year.
Callum Jackson: It was literally a year.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: yeah Yeah, again, a year. Like when the Pacific Theater came and stuff.
Cameron Resner: Battlefield 1 was good when it came out. but I don't know.
Callum Jackson: That's the only one. Because even Battlefield 4, I heard, had problems.
Cameron Resner: ah for four it is yeah
Callum Jackson: But I was playing on PS3 at that time, and then...
Cameron Resner: I don't think that was... That wasn't like with the game, was it? That was like...
Callum Jackson: No, that was it actually had problems.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: But I think... To be fair, if you think about it, like you just said, I think Battlefield 1 was the last one that had a solid launch.
Cameron Resner: who
Callum Jackson: And what was that, 2016-17 maybe?
Cameron Resner: Not Battlefield Hardline.
Callum Jackson: No, I mean, Battlefield 1 no one cared about. but i like But I think that was before, yeah, that was 2015. So that must have been before Battlefield 1 as well. But I think, yeah, like Battlefield 1 is the last solid one where it launched good and it stayed good.
Cameron Resner: Yeah. I wonder if it's like, if it's the most different to like everything out there.
Callum Jackson: But, yeah.
Callum Jackson: What, Battlefield 1?
Cameron Resner: Because I feel like, because it was like weapons, horses, that kind of shit.
Callum Jackson: Yeah, that's true.
Callum Jackson: But it was also...
Cameron Resner: And when you move into World, like when you move into World War II and modern again, it's like, then you're just comparing it to everything else.
Callum Jackson: Yeah, other games that are better.
Cameron Resner: I feel like,
Callum Jackson: So I think, like, in retrospect, like, I think, like, Battlefield 1 is just great and it it had, like, a grittiness to it and even the graphics still hold up. But that it introduced, like, the bayonet charge and then the horseback.
Cameron Resner: Oh, yeah.
Callum Jackson: It had that... fucking hell this is brutal in like a really fun way but I remember but everything was fun in that game the planes everything was good in that game and I think was yeah I remember the maps as well they were good I can't say names because I'm not very good with map names but I do remember them that game was good and even the DLCs were good but I would even say retrospect battlefield 5 was it like in my head now I'm like that was a good game
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Cameron Resner: And I remember maps from that game. Last game I remember. No. Yeah.
Cameron Resner: Mm-hmm. no
Callum Jackson: And I understand what they were going for because we've seen World War II so much. And it's like, it's always, there's a Normandy beach map like D-Day. There's always that. And this game, Battlefield went, no, well we'll put you in the the fields in Switzerland or something.
Callum Jackson: and And when I looked it, when I first got it, like back then, I was like, oh God, I was like, how could you launch a World War II game without D-Day? But now I'm like, oh, I get what where you were going for.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: Even the guns, like, the Thompson was like the last unlock or something. And you had ah just various weapons and some of them were still world war one. And that so I get it, but
Cameron Resner: Yeah. No, I think yeah it was it was good, but... and like
Cameron Resner: I think that, yes, yeah.
Callum Jackson: it launched shit. But yeah, now Lao looking at it, it was pretty good. But I think i think that about 2042, that launched, but I think, in I honestly think with 2042, that is just a terrible game and still is, but it would just launch so shit that by the end it was p playable.
Cameron Resner: Yeah. Yeah.
Callum Jackson: that's it. I don't, I'm not giving it any more credit. It's a bad game. The maps are bad. The guns were bad. The gameplay was bad.
Cameron Resner: Mm-hmm.
Callum Jackson: And it just, it got more, you could actually play it by the end. I think that was it.
Cameron Resner: Oh,
Callum Jackson: there There were some things I liked, like the, the big, uh, helicopter type things where everyone was in the back. But that's, that's a very small thing to like. So no, I don't particularly like that game too much, but, uh,
Callum Jackson: Yeah, I thought this Battlefield would have been it though. And at the moment, that's why I'm not like too annoyed with it. Because I do think it it can grow into like really a great game.
Callum Jackson: But they need to while they need to wake up now and be like, just stop with the fucking Battle Royale.
Cameron Resner: oh yeah.
Callum Jackson: Focus on what people are buying Battlefield for. Yeah. So, I mean, at the moment, again, like, I mean, what about you? what was What's the things that you like about don't like in your short play time?
Cameron Resner: yeah I mean I did I liked um like the feeling of it generally like moving around shooting killing people I feel like it feels good in that regard and I feel like
Callum Jackson: Yeah.
Cameron Resner: ah ah feel like all the weapons I've used have been really good. I feel like I do like the maps, but they're not...
Callum Jackson: Yeah.
Cameron Resner: I like them for... then I don't like them because they're Battlefield maps. I think I just... I do think they're in quite unique locations, like the New York one and stuff.
Cameron Resner: And the LA one that's just released.
Callum Jackson: Yeah.
Cameron Resner: I'm quite keen to try that out, just to...
Callum Jackson: Oh, yeah, yeah.
Cameron Resner: um But yeah, they're definitely not the size scope of a normal battlefield map, which is disappointing.
Callum Jackson: No.
Cameron Resner: um And then, yeah, i mean, I haven't really played enough to know fully, but i think I think it's something that I would, like, once Arc Raiders is kind of put away for a while, that I would go back to quite happily.
Callum Jackson: Yeah. No, yeah, me too. I'm not ready to give up. I just...
Cameron Resner: I think ah like the last I remember the the day that we went on to Ark Raiders, we were just having an absolute shitter of a time on Battlefield.
Callum Jackson: Yeah, on.
Callum Jackson: Yeah.
Cameron Resner: So I think like but it was literally during that game when I bought it because I was like, I'm not enjoying this Battlefield.
Callum Jackson: Oh, yeah.
Callum Jackson: Yeah.
Cameron Resner: But sometimes it happens.
Callum Jackson: No, because i I didn't think you were getting it.
Cameron Resner: sometimes you're just not Sometimes you just don't enjoy things during certain periods and then you go back to it and you're like, this is great.
Callum Jackson: Yeah. Yeah.
Callum Jackson: Yeah, no, I just feel like I thought, um, obviously like we've been quite busy as well, but I did think, I think it's just poor timing on not necessarily the game, but us a lot as well. Cause you know, we haven't really had time to actually sit down and play it to be fair.
Callum Jackson: And I mean, it's been like, um, like as we said, a amount month now and I thought like, oh yeah, the boys are getting back on, but, and then, but then art came about and it did just grab our attention.
Cameron Resner: Yeah. Mm-hmm.
Callum Jackson: And, uh, And again, I didn't even think you were getting ARK. I knew I was getting ARK anyway, like regardless. Like i I played the play test and that like just sold me completely. And I was like, I'm in. um But then, yeah, I didn't know you were getting it.
Cameron Resner: Yeah, I mean, I wasn't even until that moment, really.
Callum Jackson: Well, that that was the trigger.
Cameron Resner: i had I had looked at it a lot, and I did like i did that like the look of it, but was also like, there's something I want to ask, actually, in and in a moment about kind of just that genre of games, but it's just not a game that I thought I would enjoy.
Callum Jackson: Yeah, yeah, that's fair enough.
Callum Jackson: Yeah, um there me too. I think um what you were saying about the Battlefield maps, I actually do agree. I don't think the maps are bad. I just feel like there needs to be more balance. That's what I mean.
Callum Jackson: So in the future, i can see this being a great game where I'm like, oh shit, yeah, now we've got like big open desert map, which just gives me a little bit of difference. But right now, all the maps feel and play the same.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: I love the locations. Like they look cool. Like they're the Battlefield that I wanted. yeah, You know, don't get me wrong now. I think it looks great and the the maps and locations I want.
Callum Jackson: But there just needs to be more diversity on the sizes, I think.
Cameron Resner: Yeah, because it's funny. Yeah. It's funny because the maps I remember and like the maps I remember playing most were like Metro and that one on the mountain.
Callum Jackson: And I think...
Callum Jackson: Yeah.
Cameron Resner: So the end is a peak or something.
Callum Jackson: Yeah.
Cameron Resner: But they're they're not huge maps. that They're all confined, mostly indoors.
Callum Jackson: Yeah, just...
Cameron Resner: So you just you just need like the a mix of them. You need to be able to go.
Callum Jackson: Yeah, you do. Because those maps are great when you can mix around and you go, oh, i want to play that again.
Cameron Resner: Yeah. Yeah.
Callum Jackson: But I think it's just too much close quarters, too much like funneling. um And i the one thing that an actual annoyance of mine besides the maps is like something I don't enjoy. I don't know updates have done that.
Callum Jackson: But... It feels like I can be killed from anywhere. It doesn't feel like I'm pushing forward. It does feel like we're all funneling, but I'm like, there's a guy behind me for some reason or to the side of me.
Callum Jackson: And it never feels like I'm fighting forward for something, which is a problem.
Cameron Resner: No. Mm-hmm.
Callum Jackson: Like it does at the start and then about two minutes into it, everyone's everywhere and you can't really go forward. So yeah. And so one more negative on on this we before I forget.
Callum Jackson: I personally hate this whole thing of season one, season two, season... And you know when you're playing on PlayStation and you see the the icon for it change into season one?
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: And then this whole fucking event goes on and you can't get rid of And it feels like the whole game's an advert for season one.
Cameron Resner: Yeah. Yeah.
Callum Jackson: And I'm like, I just want to play the game. Just get me into the game. I don't need to see battle pass tokens and unlocking shit I'm not going to buy. like I get well who it's there for, but I'm not one of them. And it's just...
Callum Jackson: When I was playing Battlefield for the first month, I really liked how it looked.
Cameron Resner: yeah
Callum Jackson: And now it's already started with like, season one get it now.
Cameron Resner: yeah
Callum Jackson: And I'm like, oh, please.
Cameron Resner: and I know, yeah. And I feel like what I have heard is like what is unlocking stuff takes a long time as well, which is also annoying.
Callum Jackson: Yeah, too long. But I think there is an update already for that.
Cameron Resner: Okay.
Callum Jackson: I saw like they changed the challenges.
Cameron Resner: I did think they would. Right.
Callum Jackson: So, yeah.
Cameron Resner: Yeah, because i mean I was like looking online. It was like, I've been playing with this gun for like 15 hours and I've unlocked five attachments. And i was like, great.
Callum Jackson: Yeah, I felt it too because I was like... I had the MP7 and i always go for a ah Medal of Honor a look with the the scope and the silencer.
Cameron Resner: Because I...
Cameron Resner: yeah
Callum Jackson: and Like there's a mission in the 2010 Medal of Honor with it. And I always had that look. And the the silencer's level 27 with that gun. And it's just, I'm like level eight with it.
Cameron Resner: lovely
Callum Jackson: And I'm like, what the fuck?
Cameron Resner: Have you just used that guard as well?
Callum Jackson: war I haven't just used it.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: Like I've gone for, but my max gun at 20 hours, my max gun's level 12.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: Maybe 15, but it's around that area and I'm like, I'm not unlocking shit.
Cameron Resner: That's annoying. Because I am someone, i do like that mini game of like i mean like, I remember again, COD 2019 was like the peak of that.
Callum Jackson: Yeah.
Cameron Resner: was like, I just want to get everything on every gun, no matter like, but it meant I played with all these guns and got to know what I enjoyed and got to know.
Callum Jackson: Hmm.
Callum Jackson: Yes.
Cameron Resner: And it gave me a reason to play with all of them.
Callum Jackson: Yeah.
Cameron Resner: But I feel like if it's just, if it's going to take me 20 hours to complete a gun, I'm just going to, I'm never going to use another gun.
Callum Jackson: Yeah, and it does feel like that, so hopefully they change that, but relating this game to the finals, where like I ah there's nothing to unlock on the finals anymore for me, but I still play it, think it's because it has these this company, Embark by the way, the ones that make it, they just have this thing where they've unlocked the game is fun, and I don't know what it is like that that's capturing it for me, personally, but
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Cameron Resner: yeah
Callum Jackson: I don't need to unlock things in the finals. And i I haven't bought this season, for example, just because I'm not really into it. But I'm happy to pay money and get seasons and skins. But they're not the drive forward. The game just elevates and changes every time. And it's that it's that last second. Can you steal the cash out? Or can you defend it for the three minutes and stuff? And it and it for me, personally, it's never got old.
Callum Jackson: And I can feel that with Ark Raiders already. And we're only about 20 hours in.
Cameron Resner: Yeah, no, i I completely agree. I think they're really good at keeping... like momentum and just keeping you playing and keeping you want to, even though, yeah, it's kind of going against what I just said.
Callum Jackson: Yeah,
Cameron Resner: ah Like there isn't really a whole load to unlock in those games. Well, it may be in art creators is more, but in the finals, it's not like you're unlocking whole gun attack, like all these different things, but like just the gameplay is fun enough that just keeps you wanting more.
Callum Jackson: yeah there is.
Callum Jackson: no
Callum Jackson: Yeah. Another positive about like this studio, they've they've like itched a certain part for me of satisfaction, of visual style.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: And like i just I love how the finals looks and that it's a game show.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: That was cool. And i was like i i realize and even turning into coins, i was like, it just looks cool. I love the sound, everything.
Cameron Resner: yeah
Callum Jackson: And then they've upped it with Ark Raiders where it's this weird sci-fi apocalyptic future but everything's perfect the robots look good the the outfits for me I know like one of our friends didn't like the outfits but like personally for me I'm like there's it's just weird looking astronauts or pilots and is you wouldn't wear it out but it's this sci-fi future that I just I love the look of it and the music and the audio is just yeah everything about Raiders I'm loving
Cameron Resner: yeah
Cameron Resner: yeah
Callum Jackson: There's not one part that I'm like, oh, they could tweak that there. I'm like, you're fucking perfect.
Cameron Resner: no I completely agree so I think yeah maybe if we transition towards ARC I want to ask you I want to ask you what your what your thoughts were on extraction slash looter shooters before
Callum Jackson: Yeah, let's let's go more into Ark.
Callum Jackson: Um, I always wanted to try them, like Escape from Tarkov, I think it is, but I don't play on PC, so I never got into that. Um... And other than that, I've played DMZ.
Callum Jackson: But like I said earlier, i was like, this game's going to die. Like when I heard that it was going to be an extraction sugar.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: But maybe when they saw that in that part of the development, they saw that Helldivers was such a success. And they probably might have been like, what well, what are we going to do that's going to elevate it from that?
Callum Jackson: Maybe, I don't know, I'm just thinking like, if I saw how big Helldivers was and I was mid-development, I'd be like, oh shit, it's just the worst version of Helldivers.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: Because me personally, if it keep this game, take out the P, like player versus player, and then just have us looting, but with just the arc enemies, like the robots.
Cameron Resner: Mm-hmm.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: Like, I would just go play Helldivers, no offense.
Cameron Resner: No, yeah, I agree.
Callum Jackson: it Because Helldivers just feels like a fucking insane war movie every time you turn it on, no matter what you're fighting.
Cameron Resner: i think it's I think it's the unpredictability of people.
Callum Jackson: Yes.
Cameron Resner: and and yeah And I think the AI is really good, like the the the arcs that follow you around and shoot you.
Callum Jackson: Yeah.
Cameron Resner: but And then it's like always around the corner, there could be a human like aiming at your head.
Callum Jackson: Yeah. Yeah. I mean, that's another great thing because I've gone in solo and i most I mostly play stealth and when I'm alone and just watching people and they have no idea you're looking at them.
Callum Jackson: And I'm wondering how many times that's happened to me or us.
Cameron Resner: um Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
Callum Jackson: That someone's just like, should we shoot?
Cameron Resner: yeah
Callum Jackson: And it's just, it's those moments of like... And another good thing about this game is like what I was trying to say to you fucking monsters. But it's the first game I've played where people are friendly.
Callum Jackson: Or like, but like you're you're questioning before you shoot.
Cameron Resner: Oh, yeah.
Callum Jackson: You're like, oh, should we? And then you you can communicate to them as well. I mean, the game put an emote in it. The first emote is don't shoot. which like is like for this kind of game is fucking genius because not everyone wants to play with a mic and you get the basic interactions by emotes.
Cameron Resner: I think, yeah.
Cameron Resner: Yeah, agreed.
Callum Jackson: and
Cameron Resner: i think I've seen the most, like, definitely single player, I feel like you see the most passive people.
Callum Jackson: Oh, definitely.
Cameron Resner: Like, when
Callum Jackson: I have felt it's going a but more a bit more aggressive there the past few days.
Cameron Resner: Yeah, yeah. I mean, I'm aggressive, but i'm I'm not that... I'm not doing it every game. Like, it's probably...
Callum Jackson: No, George is a fucking bloodthirsty vampire headhunter.
Cameron Resner: ah george Yeah, will just go in. But... Yeah. ah Like, I'm not looking for death every round.
Callum Jackson: George is.
Cameron Resner: I just like doing it every now and again just to... Because I feel like it does play so well and the guns feel good.
Callum Jackson: Yeah.
Cameron Resner: And like when you get that shot on someone and you take down the shield, it's like, oof.
Callum Jackson: Yeah, it's all satisfying.
Cameron Resner: ah
Callum Jackson: and
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Cameron Resner: But yes. so So, okay. So what do you think? what are your What are your highlights for this game?
Callum Jackson: um um
Cameron Resner: What's your favorite thing?
Callum Jackson: ah My favorite thing, i think, is the community at the moment. That's why I'm trying not to just shoot.
Cameron Resner: Yeah. Yeah.
Callum Jackson: like as you As you know, we've already had all these conversations this week as a group, but I don't like to shoot first. I want to know what the other has to say or if they're going to interact with me or we can team up.
Callum Jackson: And I like those moments because, again, I haven't had it in a game like this. like I get it. Warzone, the ones that we have played, your objective is to kill. There's nothing wrong with that. But like this game, because there's another enemy going on, it's just great.
Cameron Resner: yeah
Callum Jackson: and And also, it could also be another human enemy, which we've had. I think you were there for that, where there was all a group of us and another group, and then another group, and then someone decided to try and snipe me, and then everyone in the room started lighting up that building on the other side.
Cameron Resner: Yeah. Mm-hmm.
Cameron Resner: yeah yeah
Callum Jackson: And I was just like, it's stuff like that that I've never experienced. And I'm like, what a cool... community already and it and it and i do think the which is weird because i didn't want it to be pvp but that's the bit that i think is the best part about it
Cameron Resner: Yeah, because it's not necessarily you're always versing players.
Callum Jackson: yeah because the was you no i was playing with ton george but i sent you the clip of me jumping on top of the queen didn't
Cameron Resner: It's just that.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: Yeah, that was fun. And there was another enemy team trying to fight it. And we were just like, I mean, George and Todd ran off and they weren't involved.
Cameron Resner: Mm-hmm.
Callum Jackson: But I was just like, it's too cool to ignore. I have to see it. But yeah, like there's stuff like that. And it's like people coming together, like shooting up, We done one last night and um ah that they wanted to kill a bastion and he was talking on the comms. He was like, oh, we want to kill this. Help us.
Callum Jackson: I didn't realize it that it was three of them, but it was.
Cameron Resner: So
Callum Jackson: i thought it was just one guy. Anyway, George runs in and I'm like, oh, no, it's cool. It's cool. It's like, no you you killed it. You can take it. And then um but George starts. I think he threw grenades at them.
Callum Jackson: And they instantly just lit him the fuck up. And then I heard the guy on the other team, he was like, everybody just calm down. I was like, don't kill him. i was like, he's my friend. I was like, he's new at the game. Don't kill him. don't And I ran over and I picked him up and I was like, get the fuck out it, George. And I was like, don't do it. He's fine. He's just a new player. And was like, leave, George.
Callum Jackson: Leave.
Cameron Resner: But they did stop shooting.
Callum Jackson: They did stop shooting. They put him down. And then the guy who went, ah clearly like probably their leader of the pie or whoever went, like everyone stopped shooting, calm down. And I was like, God, like can you imagine that on any other game though?
Callum Jackson: If someone, like even on this game, if someone fired at me, I normally will like do, like see it through to the end.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: I wouldn't be like, oh, I'm going to stop firing now. I'll be like, oh shit, the whole enemy team could turn on me at any point.
Cameron Resner: Mm-hmm.
Callum Jackson: That's just how my brain works on it. But they were like, No, calm down. like And I was like, he made a mistake. But it was quite funny. But there's there's tons of moments like that. And especially um we found out not to climb ladders together.
Callum Jackson: That's a good...
Cameron Resner: Yeah, you don't want to do that.
Callum Jackson: Don't do that. And don't zipline together.
Cameron Resner: Or slide down. Yeah.
Callum Jackson: Yes, nothing. Don't slide. Nothing interacting. Don't do it at the same time.
Cameron Resner: yeah No, definitely. and yeah definitely Yeah. One by one with a few seconds in between that ladder. It's hot.
Callum Jackson: That lad is a cat. It's there for a reason. They should definitely have a dead guy down there at all times.
Cameron Resner: Yeah, I mean, that video George said there was literally a dead guy where I fell.
Callum Jackson: I mean, is that actually being put there?
Cameron Resner: It seems to be happening quite often.
Callum Jackson: Do you think?
Cameron Resner: don't know.
Callum Jackson: Or do you think that was a guy that made a mistake as well?
Cameron Resner: Maybe. Yeah. i Yeah.
Callum Jackson: There should just be a skeleton there.
Cameron Resner: But it is a meme ladder. Yeah.
Callum Jackson: I can't believe this happened twice and I've lived both times.
Cameron Resner: But I think I'm very... clear I think um very yeah there's a ah just saw yesterday that in the third level of the battle pass, there's a grapple hook you can get.
Callum Jackson: Oh, it's on, like, the dex part.
Cameron Resner: Which... Yeah. No, no. In the... Yeah, in the deck. Sorry.
Callum Jackson: Right, yeah.
Cameron Resner: um Yeah.
Callum Jackson: Oh, is there?
Cameron Resner: You can get it from one of the loot boxes.
Callum Jackson: Hmm.
Cameron Resner: i think it's on the third level. Yeah.
Callum Jackson: Yeah, and I think, yeah I mean, it's just thinking of stuff like that, isn't it?
Cameron Resner: I haven't actually seen anyone use, so I'm interested to see how it works.
Callum Jackson: No. But it is thinking of stuff like that, like, things that we haven't even seen yet that they will add.
Cameron Resner: Yeah, because there's, I mean, I think that there's like invisibility cloaks and stuff in the game now.
Callum Jackson: Yeah, I think they're from like the... You hide from the arcs with that one.
Cameron Resner: Right. Okay.
Callum Jackson: So humans can still see you, but the the arcs can't see you at all.
Cameron Resner: Yeah,
Callum Jackson: But I think like there's... I mean, even in November, they're they're bringing in a new map, aren't they? And I'm like, you don't even need a new map.
Cameron Resner: yeah and that one's Oh, that's cool. It's like underground, right?
Callum Jackson: Yeah. Yeah, I haven't actually looked into at all. I just saw that there was a new map and i was like, you guys have really put a lot of effort into this, but... It's not even, it it feels quite basic and complex at the same time, like with the scrapping and building.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: And then there's the, what are they, Trials are they called? There's that way of like leveling up and then there'll be, is it the Expedition when you press it basically prestige?
Cameron Resner: Yeah, trials.
Cameron Resner: Project, yeah.
Cameron Resner: Essentially, yeah.
Callum Jackson: Yeah. And yeah, I'm interested in it all.
Cameron Resner: Yeah, I'm interested in that.
Callum Jackson: Like, it I mean, even upgrading our workbenches is cool, isn't it?
Cameron Resner: yeah yeah
Callum Jackson: And getting new ones. It's yeah, just great all around.
Cameron Resner: the only thing that I think is going to hurt when if if I do prestige is just losing the blueprints because I'm like you don't find I feel like you don't find them often enough and there's so many it's like yeah yeah
Callum Jackson: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: No. But they might change that. Like, they they might hear feedback and sort of tweak it. I don't know. Like, I feel like, to me, blueprints should be something that you keep.
Cameron Resner: because you've still got to get the materials to build it.
Callum Jackson: Yeah, exactly. You still got to get to that level of building it.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: So I don't think the blueprints should be something. I think that should be like a thing that you always constantly work towards and unlock personally.
Cameron Resner: Mm-hmm.
Callum Jackson: I think, yeah, because again, I've got so many blueprints. I can barely make a lot of them like consistently, like ah all the time.
Cameron Resner: No. Yeah. Yeah. I think I've made, yeah, like two of them out of five.
Callum Jackson: Yeah, so, I mean, at this point, maybe I'm not even worried about losing them, because at this point, I haven't even built many.
Cameron Resner: I don't have...
Callum Jackson: So, yeah, but...
Cameron Resner: yeah but it's just like god I'm gonna have to find that weapon I like
Callum Jackson: Yeah, no, it's a leveling thing, because I remember when we first played and you got the anvil. I've got it now, but I was like, oh, fuck, he got the anvil, and then I didn't see it for a while. And then I did get it, and I'm like, oh, okay, right, but now I'm picking up anvils on the map, so it's not too much of a bother, but I...
Cameron Resner: you do get blueprints from that trial thing as well those trials
Callum Jackson: Yeah, so we'll see how... I mean, there's still more that we've got to do. We've only... I mean, I don't know what level you are. I think I'm 17 now.
Cameron Resner: I think 20 now.
Callum Jackson: Yeah, and um so there's still more game to go. I mean, we haven't even... We still haven't tackled, like, a Bastion or a Leaper.
Cameron Resner: Oh no, yeah.
Callum Jackson: We haven't actually...
Cameron Resner: I feel so far away still.
Callum Jackson: We've... Yeah. We killed, like, the Wasps and Hornets.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: Maybe some of the Bulls. The other ones we avoid because we're still looting.
Cameron Resner: Yeah. i like I don't even... um like i i don't feel like I have the weapons to deal with those yet.
Callum Jackson: No, it's weird though, isn't it, that we don't?
Cameron Resner: like
Cameron Resner: like I don't know, i might do, I just haven't tried.
Callum Jackson: Like, maybe we should, I mean, I know there's some guides online already that kind of tell you what you need to um attack these things.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: But I mean, i think, yeah, we might as well like have a little look at that because I think experimenting with them could go wrong. um No, I think still, like, it's quite a good,
Callum Jackson: uh balance of that even though we haven't got there yet but like it's looking forward taking them on because I mean we haven't even gone for a queen yet and I'm I'm like let's go fight one but I could just feel my bullets were doing nothing and I think you might need to get people to rally together in the lobby I think that's the point
Cameron Resner: Yeah, no, I think so. Yeah. ah you yeah have to yeah You have to try and create a group somehow.
Callum Jackson: Other than that, I mean, you could just go like, you know, instead of going in for looting, you're going in with ammo and shields and med packs.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: But I mean, still, it's trying to find its weakness, isn't it?
Cameron Resner: Yeah. and you You definitely need other people. I feel like it's definitely a group activity, I'd imagine.
Callum Jackson: I was trying to take it on by myself and just it felt like nothing was penetrating it.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: Just nothing.
Cameron Resner: You need to start with like a bombardier first or something.
Callum Jackson: I mean even the Rocketeer we don't even want to we don't even want to fight because that takes our whole life in like two shots
Cameron Resner: No. Or maybe those like spheres, is it the, what is it? They're called like the
Callum Jackson: the big rolly ones I can't remember that ah can't remember that name the big balls surveyors there go I was trying to fight them but they just run
Cameron Resner: yeah Yeah, the big balls. I think I fought one.
Cameron Resner: Surveyors, that's the one. Yes, I think that's the next stage of evolution. Yeah, that is annoying.
Callum Jackson: they They just fuck off. I don't think they want to beat it.
Cameron Resner: Because we almost killed one, I think, at the beginning, and then it just ran off.
Callum Jackson: Yeah.
Cameron Resner: We were like, nope.
Callum Jackson: Todd has done that now. That mission.
Cameron Resner: Yeah, I still need to do it.
Callum Jackson: um i haven't I haven't done it, so maybe we can hunt that together. But um yeah, I mean, it's just like, again, oh, there you go.
Cameron Resner: False shot.
Callum Jackson: That's another positive. The missions. There's missions set throughout.
Cameron Resner: Oh yeah.
Callum Jackson: And it kind of gives it this weird background story, like you're following. Like you do feel like someone in this wasteland that needs to go get these supplies and needs to fix this antenna and set up a surveyor kit somewhere.
Cameron Resner: Yeah. And they're not always just simple loot.
Callum Jackson: Like it's just, the no.
Cameron Resner: It's like, it can be multi-stage and then you actually, sometimes you get a cut scene and stuff.
Callum Jackson: Yeah, we done one. Yeah, we done one last night that led to that, and it was like doing all these things in one round. I mean, obviously, if you you want help on, I think it was on the spaceport.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: like and Again, I'm happy to just play and help as well and loot along the way.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: But yeah, no that was quite cool. that There was like multiple stages to it.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: But yeah, everything they've done in this game, like my review so far, that everything they've done is correct. And that's an odd thing to get like out of the gate.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: on an online game, and also you're a new studio.
Cameron Resner: Yeah, I agree.
Cameron Resner: Yeah, and you got both both your games have been bangers.
Callum Jackson: Yeah. New fresh bangers.
Cameron Resner: Does it? does this this this gives me the This game, i realized the other day, gives me the vibe of of like A Division, which I enjoy.
Callum Jackson: Yes. Yes.
Cameron Resner: And like, especially, well, the Dark Zone and stuff like that.
Callum Jackson: Yeah. But,
Cameron Resner: But like a bit bit more of a friendlier Dark Zone. It feels like...
Callum Jackson: yeah dark zone that was fun but again I think yeah like what you said division I i think when I'm playing it I thought that too it was just obviously ah like a different world but it's a third person shooter and it feels like you're going in the dark zone each time um but uh yeah the the free one I bet they're fucking kicking themselves now as well aren't they
Cameron Resner: Yeah, yeah. It's kind of like that game that they were going to do. Was it hot?
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: All these companies, this is, I mean, look the big companies are losing their way.
Cameron Resner: and i totallyly Yeah. don't I don't really trust it would have been good, to be honest.
Callum Jackson: And then people, no, but like all these teams, like, you know, you can, as soon as someone says, oh, this was the person that worked at Ubisoft, like for Claire Obscure, and I'm like, okay, I'm in.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: And it's the same thing with this. It's like, these are the people that worked on the ah the battlefields you liked. and I was like, all right, I'm in.
Cameron Resner: Yeah, you want the people that worked on it, not the company.
Callum Jackson: Yeah, now um I have high hopes. Hopefully it doesn't fucking curse us with the sort of third one I'm looking forward to. But um is it fucking, what's it called? Dawnbreaker or something? The vampire one made by the Witcher 3 developers?
Cameron Resner: Oh, yeah. Yeah.
Callum Jackson: That's another one where I'm like, okay, you're probably going to be good as well.
Cameron Resner: Yeah, I hope so.
Callum Jackson: And Mind's Eye doesn't count. Because that looked bad from the start.
Cameron Resner: yeah Yeah, that is a shitter.
Callum Jackson: You have to look good first for me to go, oh Maybe you're good. Mindside to me, I was intrigued by like, what is this? And then as soon as I saw i was like, this isn't going to be anything, is it?
Callum Jackson: Yeah.
Cameron Resner: What about Concord?
Callum Jackson: Shame.
Cameron Resner: Concord.
Callum Jackson: Oh God. Did you hear me before? I just went, oh I went, what the fuck's Concord? um I mean, who made that though? What was, what even was that?
Cameron Resner: Don't know. But havent Sony's got another one out coming out from Ubisoft.
Callum Jackson: Oh, The Bungie one, right?
Cameron Resner: No, no, no.
Callum Jackson: Oh, what?
Cameron Resner: It's called Fair Games.
Callum Jackson: What's that one?
Cameron Resner: So it's this this is from ex-Ubisoft developers.
Callum Jackson: Right.
Cameron Resner: I don't know. Look the trailer up after this. um
Callum Jackson: What's it called?
Cameron Resner: Fair Games.
Callum Jackson: Fair Games.
Cameron Resner: for fair gain Type in Fair Games PlayStation.
Callum Jackson: Oh, wait, I think I've seen that.
Cameron Resner: But it's like a heist.
Callum Jackson: Yeah, again, it's not yeah it's not really filling my memory. That's how bad it is. But I know what you're talking about.
Cameron Resner: yeah yeah no yeah marathon is that one yeah I don't think that's going to no yeah
Callum Jackson: But I thought you meant marathon, but you completely... That's dead as two. that's that That's dead. I'm sorry.
Callum Jackson: Your alpha didn't do good.
Cameron Resner: anyone
Callum Jackson: And people... I mean, i as soon as I saw what it looked like, I was instantly not interested, to be honest.
Cameron Resner: no yeah
Callum Jackson: I was just like, you no. No.
Cameron Resner: Especially now as well. that like it's They've been shown how it should be done.
Callum Jackson: yeah no I just I mean I think even like with Embark now they they already had my trust with the finals but now they've just confirmed that they're a company to just
Cameron Resner: And I just don't think it's going to be done like that.
Callum Jackson: I won't blindly buy stuff, but I will blindly go into anything they sell and give it a try now, at least. Because i'm that that just everything they've made so far just is great.
Cameron Resner: Yeah, for sure.
Callum Jackson: Clearly care about what they're making, and that's what most companies feel like they're lacking.
Cameron Resner: what it's all about. Yeah.
Callum Jackson: Like, it's just, they're kind of like, oh, we think that people want this, I'll just put out there then.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: And it does feel like that a lot.
Cameron Resner: And one day Embark will be so big that they'll be making a shit games and then people will leave them.
Callum Jackson: Exactly. it's so It's a vicious cycle.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: But isn't... That happened with the guy who made... I think... I can't i might be getting all confused, but i think he made Call of Duty and then he made...
Callum Jackson: Then they kicked him off, so then he made Battlefield to compete against COD.
Cameron Resner: Right. Yeah.
Callum Jackson: And then... I think he went back to COD at some point, but then basically he made Titanfall and he's like the head of Respawn.
Cameron Resner: Oh, yeah, yeah. Yes, yeah.
Callum Jackson: And then he made Jedi a Survivor and I'm like, you just make bangers, I'm afraid. And then I think, again, he came back to help for Battlefield 6. And as you can see, it put on the right track again. And whether, you know, he's not still working on it, he's made the game, but whether or not the you know, people at fucking EA are like, no, let's sell millions of skins. That's not on him.
Callum Jackson: But, you know, he's he's it he' clearly a guy that should just leave and make his own studio.
Cameron Resner: Yeah, it is weird that he's stayed around, but I guess he might just be making what he but he loves, I guess.
Callum Jackson: He's needed. He's needed to...
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: He's that guy that comes in and fixes dead FPS games.
Cameron Resner: Yeah, and I mean, to be fair, there's probably not many places where you can work on an FPS at the same time you're making like a Star Wars game.
Callum Jackson: He's like...
Cameron Resner: That's probably quite a draw to be there.
Callum Jackson: no yeah yeah but he better fucking the ea better finish that i feel like they're they're going to announce it soon but they better finish that trilogy the next headline i want to see of the jedi games better be a teaser trailer and not a they've cancelled it what what do you think the chances of that is because they've just been bought out haven't they
Cameron Resner: I don't know. Yeah, they have. But I don't know. I think think Star Wars is just a weird place. I think...
Callum Jackson: It is because I thought it would have been safe, but now I
Cameron Resner: Yeah. I would think... yeah um I'm not even saying it could it would be them that cancelled it. I would think... ah Yeah, I don't know. They just don't seem to know what they're doing.
Callum Jackson: No, they don't.
Cameron Resner: But that is the one good thing.
Callum Jackson: I mean, still to this day, they don't seem to know what they're doing. And the rise of Skywalker was six years ago.
Cameron Resner: Yeah, I mean, that EA deal started 12 years ago.
Callum Jackson: Fucking hell.
Cameron Resner: And you got Battlefront 1 and 2. Battlefront 1 and 2.
Callum Jackson: No. Powerful 1 and 2, both the Jedi games and Outlaws, I think we've got.
Cameron Resner: And Jedi.
Cameron Resner: oh yeah.
Callum Jackson: And a...
Cameron Resner: And wasn't there that TIE fighting game?
Callum Jackson: Oh yeah, Reneg... No, that's the old one, isn't it?
Cameron Resner: No, yeah, that was the old one.
Callum Jackson: Yeah, Star Wars Squadrons, I think it's called.
Cameron Resner: Squadron. Yeah, something like that.
Callum Jackson: But yeah they yeah, that was actually pretty cool. um I played that in VR, and that was really worth it.
Cameron Resner: who
Callum Jackson: I didn't finish it. I think I played the X-Wing part, and then they put me in a TIE fight, and i was like, I'm good, but I enjoyed the the X-Wing part, ah being part of the Rebellion.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: That was good. i should I actually keep wanting to try that again, but I can't bother to boot up the PC to put on the fucking VR kit.
Cameron Resner: Oh, no, that's...
Callum Jackson: But it is it was cool to be in like that, and I think that was quite a fun little game. And it wasn't a full-priced one either, I don't think, when that came out.
Cameron Resner: No, I think...
Callum Jackson: But I couldn't get into Outlaws. I do want to give it a solid try again, but at the moment, don't need to. um And what they made that other one, didn't they?
Callum Jackson: But then Marvel Rivals came out. ah Yeah, it was like a hero shoot.
Cameron Resner: Oh yeah, the Star Wars Heroes or something.
Callum Jackson: yeah like There was teams of four or five.
Cameron Resner: Yeah. Just on Switch or something like that.
Callum Jackson: But it was just on Switch and mobile.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: And I'm like, what did you expect?
Cameron Resner: Just like Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3.
Callum Jackson: I've been playing that recently.
Cameron Resner: On Switch.
Callum Jackson: Yeah.
Cameron Resner: Very nice.
Callum Jackson: My little Switch. It's actually a really good game. But... We won't get into that. It is a pretty solid Marvel game, but yeah, we're going off topic. But yeah, not bad. ah But back to Battlefield and, you know, um is there anything else you sort of want to talk about with all of it?
Cameron Resner: I don't think so.
Callum Jackson: Is there some solid points?
Cameron Resner: I think, um yeah, I'm just intrigued to see where it goes. I think, as I said, think we'll return to Battlefield.
Callum Jackson: Yep, definitely.
Cameron Resner: Arc Raiders, yeah, can see Arc Raiders going for like another solid month or so, especially if the maps are...
Callum Jackson: Yeah, I mean, I will say, like, for me personally, I can see it being a game I do consistently go to because um as long as people are playing it like our friends, I will play it.
Cameron Resner: oh no yeah i think I think it will be consistently played, but I think like banging it out will be...
Callum Jackson: Yeah, no, at the moment, we sometimes we're on for four hours.
Cameron Resner: yeah
Cameron Resner: yeah yeah but I can see myself jumping back in um quite often or when everyone's playing it just because it is fun and I don't feel like it's it's not like one of those games where I feel like you go back to it and then well I don't know I haven't left it and gone back but where you go back to it and it's like overly complicated you just got to equip stuff or you can go in with a free loadout and just have a bit of fun
Callum Jackson: um Yeah, so...
Callum Jackson: Yeah, I mean...
Callum Jackson: No.
Callum Jackson: No, yeah.
Callum Jackson: Yeah, and I'm kind of hoping that stays like that, to be honest.
Cameron Resner: yeah
Callum Jackson: I don't want it to get overcomplicated and I come back and I don't know what the menu looks like. I don't mind adding like a new thing, but I don't want to have to come back and then learn everything again and they're like oh we've tweaked this and i'm like god because i
Cameron Resner: Yeah, that's yeah one thing. about Just as a slight side note, that's the one thing about the Battlefield menu and stuff. I'm like, what the fuck is going on here?
Callum Jackson: yeah yeah and it feels like that with cod doesn't it like the new cods i'm like what fucking menu is this
Cameron Resner: You just take me to, yeah, play Teen Depth.
Callum Jackson: To try and find a game in Battlefield, if you want to play Rush, you have to go on, you have to flick down and my experiences or something, then click on custom game search, untick everything, go for Rush, and then and then search. And I'm like, why is there not just a screen?
Callum Jackson: Do you remember in like old COD where it just had Team Deathmatch, Free For All, Search and Destroy, and you just clicked on one?
Cameron Resner: Yeah. No, yeah. I don't know why they...
Callum Jackson: Just do that.
Cameron Resner: They should just have that and then like ah you flick down for a menu that has all the other shit. like Just have what you want to play just all at the top and just say...
Callum Jackson: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: Yeah. It's just, but how are they still since like, you know, for five years now doing this Netflix style?
Cameron Resner: I don't know.
Callum Jackson: Like, why are you doing that?
Cameron Resner: Tiles, yeah. Just give me, just write it out.
Callum Jackson: I just want to get in the game.
Cameron Resner: Mm-hmm.
Callum Jackson: i don't want to have to try and find it. Like when we're going, oh, what do you want to play? Now breakthrough's not on the main menu. I mean, it might be now, but when we were looking, i was like, oh, okay, hold on. I have to fucking go search for it.
Cameron Resner: Yeah, it's the thing. Things move around all the time.
Callum Jackson: It's like, stop fucking moving. Just have what I want to fucking find there.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: Yeah.
Cameron Resner: That's annoying.
Callum Jackson: So that is annoying when you come back to a game is when you're like, I don't know what the fuck's going on and I can't find things.
Cameron Resner: Mm-hmm.
Callum Jackson: And yeah. And I find like the gun customization a bit funky, but not like unlocks. I mean, like actually trying to fucking flick on it. And then, yeah.
Cameron Resner: Oh yeah.
Callum Jackson: remember when COD done that as well, though, where you had to so like by time, modern warfare free, you had to flick through 200 sites and,
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: And I'm like, why didn't you just have like five sites with different reticles? What is, oh my, it's just, it's honestly just fucking painful.
Cameron Resner: You don't decide who's using all of this.
Callum Jackson: and And it's not a little square block. It's a fucking, like you have to flick through in a straight line.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: It's just, oh, it's painful. There's not even like, i'm I'm certain there's not even like categories for longer scopes either. It's just all under one.
Cameron Resner: No. It's just all scopes and then you've got find...
Callum Jackson: Yeah, it's just all scope. Fuck that. Fuck that style. is wrong with you?
Cameron Resner: Fuck, Battlefield.
Callum Jackson: Fuck them!
Cameron Resner: Oh, God.
Callum Jackson: them But long live Embark.
Cameron Resner: yes. Mm-hmm.
Callum Jackson: long live embar
Cameron Resner: yes
Callum Jackson: No, but I do think, um especially like hearing the updates and the quality of life improvements, and you know they've already gave you a roadmap until next year, and ah yeah, i'm I'm looking forward to it.
Callum Jackson: And there's like a snow season coming, which I always like having like seasoned events.
Cameron Resner: Yeah, think that would be fresh.
Callum Jackson: yeah it's it's i kind of The only thing is, because of the kind of game it I hope it doesn't go the Helldivers route, where... they were giving us updates updates updates and it felt like an actual ongoing war and then there was a point where they went fuck we got no more content and then it was like months between that's the only yeah that's my only worry if that happens but
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Cameron Resner: Yeah. I feel like this, yeah.
Callum Jackson: Like Helldivers, the game is fun enough as it at its core, but Helldivers is different where they don't tell you an update's coming in because they want it to feel like a war is sort of happening. Like, oh, we've been invaded.
Cameron Resner: No, exactly.
Callum Jackson: And it's like, okay, but you took eight months.
Cameron Resner: I was going to say, I feel like with this, I feel like if they leave it a bit longer, then it's still like, because you've got the different maps to go between and exploring these missions. As long as they keep like adding new quests and missions and stuff, I feel like that would be good.
Callum Jackson: Yeah. Yeah.
Cameron Resner: just looked outside. I think it's snowing.
Callum Jackson: What?
Cameron Resner: I don't know. I'm just looking at a lamp outside, and it looks like there's snow going past it. I don't think that's rain. It's too slow.
Callum Jackson: Hold on. Let me have a
Cameron Resner: We're in ARC.
Callum Jackson: look. Wait, hold I've got lantern here.
Cameron Resner: It doesn't look like rain. It looks too slow.
Callum Jackson: I mean, I ah think we're in different areas. going to have to record that and send it to me. I've got nothing right now.
Cameron Resner: It's coming.
Callum Jackson: I'm going to be snowed in. I'm going to check the weather now. And yes, everyone listening, you have to fucking sit here and wait for my weather check.
Cameron Resner: Yeah. Weather check, check.
Callum Jackson: No, no snow for me.
Cameron Resner: It says rain for me.
Callum Jackson: God. next year Next year, next week looks fucking miserable.
Cameron Resner: I've been gaffed. Next year.
Callum Jackson: Excellent, excellent, excellent. um
Cameron Resner: Marvelous.
Callum Jackson: Right, I think that's all we need to talk about Ark.
Cameron Resner: and
Callum Jackson: I think my last sort of thing is it's just, it is a good game to play with friends and solo, and but I'm really enjoying it, you know, playing you guys again and, you know, just hopping on and off whenever.
Cameron Resner: Yeah.
Cameron Resner: Yeah, it's very good.
Callum Jackson: And it yeah, it feels good to play again. Well, a game that's surprisingly enjoyable.
Cameron Resner: Yeah, it's good fun.
Cameron Resner: Yes. ah That everyone's enjoying. Um.
Callum Jackson: Yeah. And helping. Yeah. Just all around good time.
Cameron Resner: Mm-hmm.
Callum Jackson: Go buy it is what say.
Cameron Resner: Yeah, go buy.
Callum Jackson: Go buy it.
Cameron Resner: And buy all the skins.
Callum Jackson: Yeah.
Cameron Resner: And buy all the final skins.
Callum Jackson: I'll be getting to that soon. Yep. Yep.
Cameron Resner: Um.
Callum Jackson: I'm already halfway through that. Maybe more.
Cameron Resner: Okay, yeah. yeah Uh.
Callum Jackson: Right. And yeah. haven't You have anything to say about it?
Cameron Resner: No, I don't think so. think that's it for me.
Callum Jackson: Okay, cool. we've We've covered it.
Cameron Resner: Um, we'll probably cover.
Callum Jackson: We probably will be updating. Yeah. oh Yeah.
Cameron Resner: Yeah. I was goingnna say, we'll probably cover it in future weeks as we play more, see more, do more, kill more.
Callum Jackson: Yeah. There'll be little talks here and there to keep updated.
Cameron Resner: Mm-hmm. Cows transition to a murderer will continue.
Callum Jackson: We'll see how far I go, how far people will push me.
Cameron Resner: Mm. Yes.
Callum Jackson: But um next week we are planning to talk about Frankenstein.
Cameron Resner: Yes, which I'm very looking forward to.
Callum Jackson: The new one. not the Not the book.
Cameron Resner: That's very good. Not Frankenstein's Wife or, yeah, whatever.
Callum Jackson: Or I Frankenstein. Or Van Helsing's intro.
Cameron Resner: or the TV series on BBC in 2009. Mm-hmm.
Callum Jackson: Yeah, that one.
Cameron Resner: Frankenstein Guillermo del Toro of Pinocchio fame and Hellboy.
Callum Jackson: Yes, not Hellboy.
Cameron Resner: Not the recent Hellboys.
Callum Jackson: No, not that one.
Cameron Resner: Not the recent two different Hellboys.
Callum Jackson: not But maybe yeah maybe the shape of water Hellboy.
Cameron Resner: Not the bad, bad Hellboys.
Cameron Resner: Yeah, or Pan's Labyrinth, you remind me of the babe.
Callum Jackson: Yeah. Do you think he likes fish?
Cameron Resner: Guillermo del Toro.
Callum Jackson: Yeah.
Cameron Resner: I think he, yeah, I think he's seen with the fish in Death Stranding 2.
Callum Jackson: We're going to find out, aren't we?
Cameron Resner: Because he plays die, not die hard man. Who is?
Callum Jackson: He doesn't play him though, does he?
Cameron Resner: Sorry.
Callum Jackson: He doesn't voice him.
Cameron Resner: Yes, he does.
Callum Jackson: Does he?
Cameron Resner: Yeah, Death Stranding 2. Yeah, it's his it's hidden is's his body. that He's, he voices him.
Callum Jackson: I know it's his body and his look, but I didn't know he voiced him.
Cameron Resner: And who's the other director that's in it?
Callum Jackson: Oh, God.
Cameron Resner: The director of Mad Max. he's He's in the second one as well now.
Callum Jackson: Oh, yeah, because he turns around and goes, I got something like a George Miller, a Phantom Pain.
Cameron Resner: Get something like a phantom pint.
Callum Jackson: That's just fucking hell.
Cameron Resner: What is his fucking name? Hold on.
Callum Jackson: I just said George Miller.
Cameron Resner: No, what's his name in Death Stranding 2?
Callum Jackson: Oh, his name's George Miller.
Cameron Resner: Yeah, not.
Callum Jackson: His name's Miller George.
Cameron Resner: What the fuck?
Callum Jackson: It's Die Hard Man. Oh, no.
Cameron Resner: No, he's called Deadman. That's what he's called.
Callum Jackson: Dead Man. Yeah, oh, God, the fucking name is Jesus Christ.
Cameron Resner: He's a robot. There you go, spoilers.
Callum Jackson: What's the... Oh, you've ruined it. What's the... um Oh, yeah, I'm seeing Predator Badlands tonight.
Cameron Resner: Oh, very nice.
Callum Jackson: And that just reminded me Elle Fanning's in it. But she's she is in Death Stranding 2, right? I'm not just...
Cameron Resner: Yeah, yeah, I think so.
Callum Jackson: So they carry boxes in that and now she's being carried.
Cameron Resner: Yeah, she played.
Cameron Resner: Yes, she is being carried on the back, just like Mimir, carried by Kratos.
Callum Jackson: Yeah.
Callum Jackson: Just ahead.
Cameron Resner: We'll leave you that with that, kids. Thank you for listening.
Callum Jackson: Yes. And we will be back for Frankenstein next week.
Cameron Resner: um
Cameron Resner: Yes. Au revoir. Auf Wiedersehen.
Callum Jackson: Fraulein.
Cameron Resner: Goodbye.
