Introduction and Podcast Setup

00:00:00
Speaker
You are listening to the Inverted Creative Podcast. I'm Allison. I'm Bryant. And I'm Jen.
00:00:17
Speaker
We are in a really weird time loop right now in that we are recording this before the episode that came out two weeks ago has been recorded.
00:00:28
Speaker
And this is hurting my brain. Yeah, we're a little backwards this week, guys. It's fine. i want i mean, we can mention the dates. Like, this is coming out May 5th. it is This is definitely the earliest I think we're doing an episode. It's April 18th as we're recording this.
00:00:44
Speaker
We're recording the episode that came out, what? April 21st. April 21st on April twenty one year So I think even Marnie McFly would be like, what are you guys doing?
00:00:56
Speaker
Like it's confusing even me, but you know what, when you have someone on, that's what 7,000, 8,000 miles away from us, whatever the math is. ah Sometimes you got to do some weird things. So, um, and also it's a Saturday for him and Friday for us.
00:01:13
Speaker
We're in the future. Okay. but but And the most important part, it's 6 a.m. That's wild. It's 8 a.m. Oh, 8 a.m. Man, he did tell me that, too.

Guest Introduction and GeoGuessr Championship

00:01:28
Speaker
Anyway, the voice you are hearing, that australia that wonderful Australian accent that you just heard, was from the amazing Riley from the That's So Mid YouTube channel.
00:01:37
Speaker
Riley, thank you so much for joining us. I am very, very excited for Oh, thanks for having me on. i love your podcast. I listen to your podcast. and What is it? Every fortnight, right? Every fortnight. I love it.
00:01:48
Speaker
Do you guys say fortnight? I swear that you guys don't say fortnight. still a Swift song. Yeah. We do not say fortnight. You say like bi-weekly or something, right? Yeah, we say bi-weekly. Every other week is what I say. So weird.
00:02:02
Speaker
But yeah, I listen to you guys. I love it. So thanks for having me on. It's fun. Yeah, we're hyped for this one. Yeah, so I, of course, first heard of Riley, which we're obviously going to talk about um his other projects on YouTube, but he also runs an amazing GeoGuessr tournament.
00:02:22
Speaker
So this is your third season now doing GeoGuessr, correct? Third season, yeah, yeah. Now, spoiler alert, the championship of this season just happened yesterday, May 4th.
00:02:35
Speaker
So if you don't know what happened yet, I would skip ahead we'll tell you when we We'll tell you how... You'll tell us, Allison, like when... Allison will face a timestamp, maybe.
00:02:48
Speaker
How? Put it in the description. Check the description for a timestamp. Yeah, timestamps, easily. check them away or professional. We know how to do this. Anyway, the voice you're hearing now is just happens to be the champion of season three. Unbelievable.
00:03:06
Speaker
Unbelievable. um I mean, yeah, I kicked some butt. I'm not going to lie. I beat three really, really good Geoguester players. Coaster Cuzzies, Coaster Dash,

Strategies and Challenges in GeoGuessr

00:03:17
Speaker
Maloney's Coasters.
00:03:19
Speaker
um Three really, really tight matchups. like They were all high scoring. Did I have maybe some luck on my side? I don't think you can be the champion without a little bit of luck on your side. Yeah, yeah.
00:03:30
Speaker
But, you know, it feels good. It feels good to ah to be a champion. i If I have one flaw in my character, I try to be a nice guy. You know, I try to treat everybody with respect.
00:03:42
Speaker
I can be really competitive and sometimes a jerk about it. And I don't like entering any kind of competition unless I think I have a chance of winning. And I'm just really happy I backed it up.
00:03:53
Speaker
No, you play really well. And yeah, again, those contestants you went up against, those content creators, they're, you know, they're really good. Mm-hmm.
00:04:05
Speaker
Especially, like, I think Jake Maloney's coasters is very underrated. He's so smart. And, um hey, you beat him as well. So, and yeah let me let me ask you a question.
00:04:19
Speaker
What was your tactics? you have any tactics going in before each game? So, I'm all about maximizing your points.
00:04:30
Speaker
And if you don't know where a park is, one... As soon as you get the park name, leave. Go into the streets. Try to find a language. Try to find signs.
00:04:42
Speaker
What side of the road they're driving on. like Try to find the country. like That should be the number one priority. Try to find what country you're in. And then it's just about, well, if youre you're running out of time, you don't know where in the country you are, stick it somewhere in the middle.
00:04:58
Speaker
Or if you have an idea of, like well, it's probably not near that city, then... go somewhere else so i got to in the both the championship and the first playoff game against coaster cousins i happen to get two parks in nagoya japan and they both happen to be right in the middle of nagoya which that was insane luck that being said there was some strategy behind it because i had spent almost a week in tokyo and i was pretty pretty familiar with what parks were in the tokyo area So logically, if it was a park I didn't recognize, it wasn't going to be in Tokyo.
00:05:34
Speaker
So i'm like, okay, well, let's go to the next the second most populated area, which is the Osaka-Nogoya area. And Nagoya is a little more centrally located within the country itself. Let's shoot Nagoya twice. Worst case, I was going to be off by 500-ish points.
00:05:48
Speaker
Happened to be... Couple streets over both times. Literally, yeah. That's crazy. It's just, I mean, i obviously, you know, I am, like I said, I'm a huge geography fan. Not too many parks in the US. I can't pinpoint Europe. I did a lot of research, like just at least searching like where the popular parks are.
00:06:07
Speaker
And then, yeah, it's just a matter of hoping you get a park you recognize and then use those other hints to to try to find out where you are, where you are. Yeah. You're giving away tips for season and four contestants.
00:06:23
Speaker
I want to almost like, it was a very hard round, but like that Magic Mountain round with Mark and Taylor last month. It was pretty easy to pinpoint Australia because they did you were trying to tell them, like, they're driving on the left. They're driving on the left.
00:06:38
Speaker
I don't know how Mark didn't pick up on that. but And clearly that wasn't the UK. Like, it was not UK landscape. So I'm like, it's Australia. yeah I think you, like, it's in the moment, right? You start stressing because the timer's going down.
00:06:51
Speaker
The timer brings in a lot of factor to it as well. Like, when you're watching it, it's not really that stressful but when you're actually playing it and the time has gone down that's when you're like you start like losing brain cells right you do know for sure and you you get the peanut gallery in the comment section like how did you not know that's that part like ah people were talking trash because i didn't recognize efteling right away i'm like okay first off i'm not i'm not european sorry it's a fling it's also like in the weirdest spot in the park Yeah, there were no coasters or rides in the area that Riley put us in, which wasn't fun.
00:07:27
Speaker
What the heck? But it's Efteling. Could you hear the music? There's no audio. That'd be cool. What the heck? what back
00:07:40
Speaker
You treat that better, Brian. Yeah, well, we'll talk more about, like, your ideas and origins of that tournament, but we we have a bunch of questions that we've got to get started, just about you as a whole. Yeah, yeah. First off, I've never asked you, like, how did you come up with the name That's So Mid? Is there some inspiration behind that? Is there a story?

Channel Name and Cultural Discussions

00:07:59
Speaker
No, really just a couple years ago when the the word mid was becoming more used, right? Because it... I don't think it really got used much earlier than maybe before COVID, right?
00:08:15
Speaker
Probably a couple of people using but it it kind of ah just took off. And then, don't know. i honestly can't tell you why it's called that so mid, but it's kind of it's kind of weird now because not even half the things I do are like mid. most Most of the things are either they either suck or they're either really good.
00:08:36
Speaker
Um, so it's kind of weird that my name is that so mid now, but if, if I go on an attraction or something and it is mid, I'll damn sure tell you that it's mid. Hashtag that's so mid.
00:08:48
Speaker
Like when you ever, whenever you get on talent at Dorney park, maybe you, I was literally just going to say that if anyone says talent is mid, I'm going to, mids, mids are kind of a funny word. Cause so you could take it as like an insult, right?
00:09:02
Speaker
Like, don't say that's mid, like, but really it's just average. So it's not bad. It's not good. Just, it's just mid. yeah I feel like it's kind of taken on a negative connotation.
00:09:13
Speaker
Yeah. well But yeah, it's it's funny. Cause
00:09:19
Speaker
I say some coasters in my top 10 are mid, but that's only because say it's mid because other people think it's the best coaster on earth.
00:09:30
Speaker
I'm like, nah, it's not, it's not, but it's still good, but it's not the best. That's what I think. So ah you can use it in so many different ways. It's it's like a word that you can just use it as an in insult, use it as a I don't know. Like here's ah here's a, here's good one. I call, um, mystic Timbers mid stick Timbers.
00:09:56
Speaker
Ooh, a lot of people do, but that hurts to hear too. Right. Right. But I still think it's the best paced Woody I've ever been on. But for me personally, it's not what I want out of a wooden coaster.
00:10:08
Speaker
Okay. So I just call it mid stick Timbers. Funny enough. I call a candy modium candy

Theme Park Adventures and Planning

00:10:14
Speaker
medium. It's kind of hopped on that trend a little bit. Okay. See, I love Candemonium. Oh, it's a great ride. It's just in in my hyper rankings, it's I always have right in the middle.
00:10:25
Speaker
I got a weird hyper ranking for sure. So like yeah I guess that leads to, like, I wrote this question kind of recently. ah Just your experiences as an Australian coaster enthusiast, because you have probably, you guys have, like, just such a unique way of experienc experiencing this hobby, because...
00:10:46
Speaker
I feel like this is the pro of your peak season. Your summer is the opposite of the entire world. But then you're also like really isolated from like anytime you want to get off Australia, it's probably a significant flight, right?
00:11:01
Speaker
Yeah, it's a journey. i've I've been to US four times now. 2015 was my first ever time. That was the kind of time i like...
00:11:13
Speaker
pretty much got into theme parks because I'd been going to our theme parks here in Australia for, don't know, just growing up as a kid, right? Getting into coasters. And then you go to you go to your local parks as a kid, as you're growing up. And then as soon as I came to us and went to Universal Studios Hollywood, that was my first like US theme park.
00:11:37
Speaker
And now now that I've experienced the other parks in the US, it's kind of like, you know, it's like a, it's a pretty good park, but it's not like the top tier. But at the time i was like, oh, oh, this is how you can do rides. Okay. I see. I see what's, I see what's going on here. So that was like time I was like, okay, it's next level over here. So, came in 2015, 2019, 2023, and then 2024. I've been times and twenty twenty three and then twenty twenty four so i've been four times now and Nice.
00:12:06
Speaker
That flight sucks. that's I'll tell you. So, yeah, it's... a Normally, it's direct. So, actually, every single time I've flown direct from... I'm in Brisbane. So, Brisbane to LA.
00:12:20
Speaker
And that's normally 13 to 14 hours. So... so It sucks. And I, I can sleep on, it's like broken sleep, right? You've kind of drift in and out of sleep.
00:12:32
Speaker
Um, but I always get there with like a broken neck. It's like so bad. But last year when I went over there, there was no one sitting next to me. So I could like sleep on the, put my feet up. Oh my God. That's the dream.
00:12:45
Speaker
Yeah. I mean, the dream is business, but we don't know how that one or 20, but, um, yeah, it's, it's a challenge. from Australia, seeing as we only have 30 something credits.
00:12:59
Speaker
It's pretty wild. At least you're located pretty close to all the good ones, right? That's right. Yeah, the main ones. Yeah, I'm about 50 minutes to an hour, depending on traffic to the Gold Coast. We have an Australian friend, shout out our friend Harrison, but he lives in Perth.
00:13:16
Speaker
Oh. So that's even like, you think Australia's bad as an enthusiast, but then like add on even more isolation. It's like the equivalent, because you can pretty much put Australia on top of the US and it's almost exactly the same size. Oh yeah, no, that's like LA to so New York. Yeah, it's that far.
00:13:36
Speaker
Perth, oh yeah. Except the Australia just has nothing in the middle. Nothing. But yeah, that's the distance, so yeah, he's... All the way in Perth. At least he's got Adventure World, but that's like, yeah.
00:13:48
Speaker
I'm pretty sure that after Adventure World, his home park is like Indonesia, somewhere in Indonesia. like Oh, wow. think yeah Yeah, it would be, yeah. but It would be. That's crazy.
00:14:02
Speaker
So we're going to start with one of um one of our listener questions from our good friend John Mike, because it's a very good kind of introduction to this talk with you. But he asks,
00:14:14
Speaker
well said and then asked the two series you've created are especially unique in the theme park creator space how did you arrive at both of these concepts and has the wisdom of the wheel led you to a park that exceeded your expectations wow i like this so 2023 i did a trip that was planned right so i did a road trip that went from orlando up to Six Flags Great Adventure. So I did like all the major parks up there. Then we flew, did Cedar Point, Kings Island, and then finished in l LA.
00:14:45
Speaker
And that's weird. You're like, why would you finish in LA? Because you have to get a flight back home to Australia through LA. So we're like, might as well. So that was all planned. Planned, like booked every single hotel, booked every all the theme park tickets before that.
00:14:59
Speaker
Um, and that's, that's definitely the way to visit theme parks with a plan. The Alison way of trip planning. Yeah. essential For the most part, not recently.
00:15:11
Speaker
True. But like, that's, I was so into that getting like an Excel spreadsheet, like planning every single thing. I used to do that.
00:15:21
Speaker
And then I was planning a trip last year, 2024, and it was just going to be a Midwest trip because I hadn't been out that way yet. So was planning this whole road trip. I was actually talking to ah Caleb from Costa Cuzzies because I know he lives out that way.
00:15:37
Speaker
And he's like, yeah, that's a pretty good idea. He's like, take off worlds of fun because park sucks. That's his home park. yeah But anyway, i ah that was a plan. And then I was like,
00:15:48
Speaker
Let me do the exact opposite with no plan. So the original plan was actually going to be 30 days of the compass challenge. Wow.
00:16:00
Speaker
That was the original plan. And once I mapped out, I'm not sure if you guys saw the map that I had, it was 118 theme parks on this map. That was like, that was the North, Southeast or West one. So the compass challenge.
00:16:13
Speaker
And once I finished a park, I wouldn't be able to go back. And doing the maths in my head, ah was like, I don't even know 30 days is even possible because once you start knocking out parks,
00:16:30
Speaker
if I spin say West four times in a row, then I spent East, I would have to skip every single one of those parks and get to that side. So it, it would have just like the, I'm sure the first couple of days would have been fine if I did that, but then getting towards like days 25 to 30, that would have been impossible.

Mystery Wheel Series and GeoGuessr Evolution

00:16:51
Speaker
So yeah what I ended up doing was cutting it back to 14 days.
00:16:57
Speaker
um And then I was like, Mystery wheel. That could work. was like, that'll be expensive, but that'd be cool. So I guess that's how I landed on it.
00:17:12
Speaker
ah Just thinking the complete opposite of not having a plan. And then the idea of doing it with a wheel. And I was like, let's do it.
00:17:27
Speaker
It's such an amazing idea. Like I, it's so beyond creative and unique. ah I'm sure no one has ever done that in this hobby ever. And it's People have done it at parks before, which I did do it at a Six Flags Magic Mountain. That was like the intro into everything.
00:17:45
Speaker
That was me getting used to the wheel and everything. And then, but people, I don't think people had ever done it going from park to park.
00:17:54
Speaker
Yeah. I can't remember ever seeing it. And, i I remember my my first introduction to it was we were all in Cincinnati for Brian's birthday.
00:18:07
Speaker
birthday. Half birthday, yeah. And someone put it on the on the TV. And I had watched the channel before, but I didn't see the wheel. um thing that you did.
00:18:18
Speaker
And i was like intrigued. I was like, I need, we were all sitting on the couch, like rooting for it. And I was so into it. And i was like, this happened like over the summer, like what? And we were hyped.
00:18:30
Speaker
It was so fun as like, even watching it later, it was just so Yeah, I never told you that, Riley, at that this, quote, half birthday party, because I turned 36 and a half, 365.
00:18:42
Speaker
It's a whole thing. ah Actually, that's amazing by the time this episode comes out, I'll be 37. True story. Happy birthday. Well, thank you. Happy belated birthday. Yeah, belated at this point, even though it hasn't happened yet.
00:18:56
Speaker
ah Yeah, no, but we we just threw your channel on. and We were like just watching all your wheel series, and it was awesome. That was my introduction to the channel, actually. Yeah, I was like, no one talked to me. I need to know where he's going next.
00:19:08
Speaker
It's probably the dumbest thing anyone's ever done though, right? like No. for and If you you didn't put it on YouTube, maybe. yeah But the content is phenomenal.
00:19:21
Speaker
yeah For entertainment purposes, it was amazing. I came up with a thing for like that series. It's like, I visit theme parks in ways you shouldn't. So don't do what I do.
00:19:33
Speaker
it's It's pretty much for content and entertainment. And it I hope it, because at the end of the every episode, I spin it and then it cuts out. And it's like, that's the end of the episode.
00:19:46
Speaker
And it's like, damn it. I am a fan of the tease. That's how you got to do it. Yeah, I love that aspect. It kept you waiting, though, because I remember it like cutting out and I'd be like, find the next one.
00:19:57
Speaker
Find it. yeah. had friends with it just like, wait, it it stops there? What? Why? and I love how you ask like like your Uber driver or like the the person working in your hotel lobby to like spin the wheel. It's never like really your control.
00:20:14
Speaker
Yeah. So I, cause obviously people are going to be like, Oh, you've rigged the wheel. You've done all this. And I don't do that. I do it all yeah realistic. Cause that's, yeah, I had to get like on the compass challenge every now and then I would get a random to spin it.
00:20:29
Speaker
oh I made sure on the, I was at Indiana beach and I think Hollywood nights was on. I don't even know if I could have got a ticket, but anyway, I was like, if I spin it right now and I land on it on holiday world,
00:20:45
Speaker
on that exact day, everyone's going to think that's rigged. And I was like, I have to find a random to spin it because even if it was like, even if I spun it and I know it was legit, people are always going to be like, that's so rigged. So got around to spin it. They spun Kings Island. so That's what yeah where all of my friends are currently. And I'm not.
00:21:08
Speaker
I mean, low-key, King's Island, that's probably one of the best times to go to King's Island because everyone's at Holiday World. Yeah. True, yeah. At least if you want to avoid avoid enthusiasts, which sometimes I don't blame you.
00:21:21
Speaker
Yeah, I ended up running to and into a couple of people like McLovin. McLovin, all Yeah, it was so random. That's awesome.
00:21:32
Speaker
Now, the GeoGuessers series, how did that come about? where you Did you play beforehand and knew about the game and then wanted to bring it to the community? Yeah, that was an interesting one. So i had always, like, watched GeoGuess on YouTube.
00:21:46
Speaker
And then, i as you do when you start your channel, I don't know, Brian, you probably had more of an idea of what you donet but I started my channel, like, the first year and a half, I guess I didn't really have an idea of what I was doing. I was just making videos.
00:22:00
Speaker
Yeah. And I was yeah on the opposite. I finished my idea. and Now I don't have any idea what to do. Anyway, go on. Um, so I played, I think I played an Australian version on GeoGuessr just for content for myself.
00:22:17
Speaker
And then I was like, let me just get a couple of friends on. So I got a couple of friends here in Australia to jump on. And then I was like, we could, make this into like a series and like an actual competition.
00:22:31
Speaker
So like, I think after the first two episodes, I was like, okay, this is a competition now. So that first season just turned into a competition, like after the first two episodes and then it kind of went like that.
00:22:43
Speaker
um The first season is terrible. Cause I, we were using a randoms map. And it was just like Efteling popped up every every two seconds. It would be Efteling.
00:22:55
Speaker
Yeah, Efteling! Whoever made that map obviously has a home park of Efteling. So they were just like, put them here. So I think it was for season two I made my own map or it might have been season three.
00:23:07
Speaker
think it was for season two. And ah that took a long time. Making a map... takes a long time because how I do it is I went through RCDB and went through every park with a roller coaster, no matter, even if it had one kiddie coaster, it's still technically a park.
00:23:28
Speaker
And i also, I also had to make it really tough because, If it's too easy, that content's boring. It's like everyone's coming on, everyone's just getting 25,000 points.
00:23:39
Speaker
What's the point? So absolutely I had to make rounds that were tough, even... Like theme parks without roller coasters. Cause technically still an amusement park, still a theme park.
00:23:54
Speaker
Might not have roller coaster, but technically they're still parks. So, um, there's just some crazy ones, probably some that I've even popped up yet, um, in the series. So, uh, I got to refresh it for next season for sure. Um, just like keeping the same parks, obviously, but changing the locations in that park.
00:24:16
Speaker
just so it's not like straight away you're like oh that's exactly what it is um hopefully geoguessr and google maps have updated so i can add more parks but they're pretty limited to like some parks don't let you in the parks and some countries don't even let you on the street so there is some locations that yeah go on that's a big hint that i don't want to give for season four but like people who pick china i'm like They don't have GeoGuessr in China, guys. don't
00:24:48
Speaker
So if you see Asian characters, it's going to be probably Japan or South Korea. There is yeah there is a couple in China. It's like Hong Kong, yeah. Yeah, it's it's really limited. like They obviously just don't let Google map cars drive around there.
00:25:04
Speaker
Do you have any idea how many hours you put into making that map and getting it all set up?
00:25:11
Speaker
I'd say... Well, I don't know. i think I did it over a couple nights. I would, so what you can do on RCDB is sort of by continent. So I'd do every continent.
00:25:22
Speaker
I think I did one a night and that would take me a couple of hours for each continent and because you have to type it in go to that, get a get a good location in the park like i know the one at efteling that i dropped ryan into if i just dropped right into like where a good coaster is he'd be like yep straight away but i wanted to drop it a bit further out so it's a bit more challenging yeah i'm like i'm looking for baron i'm looking for like the dueling woody i'm like oh this can't be efteling it's gonna be just some random dutch park
00:25:53
Speaker
Yeah. I got Dutch right, at least. That's right. ah Eventually, most of the time, you can just work your way out and find it eventually. But um yeah, you it's a challenge.
00:26:05
Speaker
You did such a good job of like popular parks, small parks that you might have heard of, and then parks that like even me, people like Taylor, Mark, that we've never heard of. And the way you just were able to integrate the different skill levels was honestly...
00:26:22
Speaker
phenomenal. mean um And it makes it more fun for us because, like you said, it'd be boring if it's like, alright, here's Cedar Point, Disney, Rogen Towers. like like okay Yeah, I remember Tyler messaged me I was after one of the rounds and he was like, dude, it was so like tough. And I was like, yeah, I guess that's what Geogress is good for. it's like um but I'm so happy he got Memphis Kitty Park.
00:26:50
Speaker
Right? It's like... I want to mention that I watched that episode while sitting at the Cincinnati airport getting to go to California. And that came up and I sent him a Snapchat. I'm like, dude, even I've been there.
00:27:01
Speaker
And i know I sent him a picture in front of me. He's like, are you kidding me? I would have done the same thing. I'd never heard of it. Yeah. I mean, I might have. I made the map and I still didn't know.
00:27:12
Speaker
It's like I forgot. To be fair, I might have. And I've i've done this before. Like when i thought I was in San Jose, Costa Rica. i'm like, you know what? let's Let's walk around a little bit. So I might have seen, wait, this isn't Tennessee.
00:27:27
Speaker
yeah And I think that's another hint, like make sure you walk around the streets a little bit. And I think it also comes into account in the playoffs how it's only two minutes and 30 seconds, whereas in the regular season it's five minutes. So right I'm sure in in the five minute probably round, he probably we know we would have walked around and probably found a sign. But because the time gets cut down, that's when it's like, okay, we're just to to shoot a place in the end.
00:27:55
Speaker
One of the questions we wrote here is ah how hard is it to not help people? Yeah, that's tricky one. That's tricky one. I have been like have accidentally said a couple of things sometimes and I'm like, well, it's so tricky.
00:28:10
Speaker
um Most of the time I'm on my best behavior, but I really want to help people, especially like, what was it? Maroombula's Magic Mountain in Australia. I knew exactly. Those two don't need help.
00:28:25
Speaker
um But yeah, it's it's just, it is what it is. And um luckily that won't, it won't be possible to happen again because season four is going to be changing a bit.
00:28:41
Speaker
Yeah. I think our our last question is going to be ah about like the future of that's so mid in the tournament. So yeah. I little taste about that. So I know Brian's practiced it.

GeoGuessr Season 4 and Competitive Dynamics

00:28:52
Speaker
Who did you practice with? Was it Mark? With Mark. Mark, yeah.
00:28:55
Speaker
So i've I've done some test runs with those two. Taylor and Jake also did some tests. It's definitely a ah really good system that we've got going on there.
00:29:08
Speaker
The hardest thing is going to be finding a way to record that. Right. Um, just cause you don't only need my screen, you need the contestants screens and. i mean, while we're talking about it let's just say what, if you want to reveal you what season four is going to look like, or is that still like something to talk about later?
00:29:27
Speaker
No. Yeah. So pretty much obviously the, the contestants will be controlling their own screen. They're going to get the same round. It's going be like jewels. Um,
00:29:38
Speaker
And I think that's that's going to be like seasons one, two, and three were fair because the game just randomly gave you rounds. Sure. Like I didn't have any control over what round the game was going to give you. It just, you know, completely random on the game.
00:29:55
Speaker
um But this time the contestants are going to be, you know, getting the exact same rounds and ah yeah, just... you verse off and what happens is you put your spot down. So I think it's it'll be unlimited time until someone makes a guess.
00:30:16
Speaker
And then once someone makes a guess, the timer goes to 15 seconds and that other contestant just has to shoot a place. So an interesting tactic that some people may have in season four is...
00:30:33
Speaker
not finding the exact location, but you could just go straight away and click on it and, and make the other person panic. yeah Yeah. Oh, for sure. before Like if you don't know what, like, let's say Korean characters look like, but you do, you might just be like,
00:30:50
Speaker
South Korea. And then they have 10 seconds to try to like, oh God, like, is it Japan? Is it Taiwan? Is it? Yeah. That, that could be a tactic. Definitely a strategy. Yeah. No, for sure. That definitely, that sounds like it'll be very chaotic. if Yeah.
00:31:04
Speaker
Yeah. So that's going to, yeah, that's going to be a bit of chaos for season four. um I'll probably change up the editing style as well. but yeah, that, I don't even want to think about how long that's going to take to edit because that's, that's not going to be a long time, but plus you'll be like commentating, right? That's essentially how you're going to be. ah Yeah. I'm the, um I'll be the host and the, the host and everyone watching will pretty much get the first look at each round before the creators even get to see it as well.
00:31:37
Speaker
So that would be really cool. And, um, Yeah, it's going to be a lot different, but as i think it'll be a lot cooler to watch for sure. And it removes, like, obviously, there is some form of luck in the old format.
00:31:56
Speaker
This removes all luck and because it's just head to head. You're going to get the same ones. And yeah, I think as great as obviously this past season was and the ones before that for content, I think this is just going to up the game even more.
00:32:09
Speaker
Yeah. Like we had 20 creators on this season. There may even be more for season four. I don't know. I've had so many people message me being like, I want to be on for next season. I'm like, I've only got a limited amount of spots. we'll see.
00:32:25
Speaker
But I'm off to create like a ah form to say expressions of interest. Yeah. Application form. Give them a test. Like say, Hey, like,
00:32:37
Speaker
Or have an audition process. like yeah Play a game. What you get? What's your score? trial round kind of thing yeah yeah I might have to do that. but um Luckily right now, I don't have to worry about that because that won't be for a while. Season 4 won't be for a while. so yeah yeah um Talking about the GeoGuessers still, are there any parks that haven't shown up yet that you hope will show up?
00:33:03
Speaker
I kind of remember half of them that I added. There's so many of them. um Probably. Like, i assume, like, for me, I love ones that just not only stump the people playing, but stump me as well. I'm, like, confused. I'm like, I don't know even know where it is. I put it in the game, but i even I don't know where it is.
00:33:22
Speaker
um So I assume there's heaps that haven't popped up. I mean, even in that final with Brian and Jake, there were new ones popping up that... i I couldn't even remember where it was. Like the one that stumps Jake, obviously spoilers, was someone in, was it Sweden, Brian? It was Norway.
00:33:41
Speaker
Norway. Okay. I can't, I don't, I don't know what it is. Let's talk about that round just real quick because he found out it was Norway before there was like the Norwegian flag eventually popped up, but he knew was Norway before he saw the flag.
00:33:57
Speaker
And me, and I think he thought the same, like, I'm like, oh, crap. It has to be Toosanfried. Because that's the only park I had ever heard of in Norway. I'm assuming maybe the same for him. So when he got to a park map and it wasn't Toosanfried, that's when I'm like, I got it. I was like, yes.
00:34:17
Speaker
Because he had got, I want to say, two perfect 5Ks before that. Yeah. And he ended up getting, I think, 5Ks on the last two as well. So if he 5K'd that middle one, I would have lost. Yeah.
00:34:28
Speaker
Yeah. And then, yeah, I think he he mentioned that it was near Trondheim, which is like way north. And that's when i was like, I know this park's not that far north. And I'm like, I think I got it.
00:34:41
Speaker
The sigh of relief. but Yeah. so i like i I don't even know what that park was. and I forgot the name of it. That's the that's the greatest thing about Geoguess is we're not only you know trying to find these parks, but we're also discovering parks that we've never heard of before.
00:34:57
Speaker
Very true. Yeah.
00:35:01
Speaker
So to get back to the the wheel series, which... As fun as Geoguester is, I still think that this is this is true. That's so mid is is is the wheel for sure. Yeah. um Has there ever been a moment or a day while you're doing this where you're like, I wish I did plan this out a little more?
00:35:18
Speaker
Some frustrations maybe. Definitely when that guy spun California's Great America when I was in Orlando. Yeah, that that that was like like, I've always wanted to go there because I know it's going to be closing down, right?

Travel Experiences and Park Visits

00:35:34
Speaker
i was like, couldn't I be a little bit closer than being over the other side of the country? And then it's just like the parts when I open up my my phone and find flights and I'm like, it's so expensive.
00:35:46
Speaker
that so Some of those times I'm just like, this is the dumbest thing ever. um Then there's also times like me finishing the series and not getting to go to Silver Dollar City, not getting to go to Canada's Wonderland that were on the wheel.
00:36:04
Speaker
And it's just like, i would i could have been here by now if I wasn't doing this stupid thing. Could have gone there. Sometimes, like... I'm not sure if you guys saw episode two of the Mr. Real Challenge.
00:36:16
Speaker
I had to go to Elitch Gardens. Stupidest thing ever. But, yeah, i'm i I purposely put one... terrible, everyone says it's terrible park on the wheel, justin just on on that factor that sure there's really good parks on this wheel, but there's one that you don't want to spin.
00:36:38
Speaker
And that was Elitch Gardens. And I pretty much went from the best, probably what I consider as my favorite park in the world, Disneyland to Elitch Gardens. That was great.
00:36:50
Speaker
um I mean, at least Denver is pretty. Yeah. I actually really liked Lakeside Amusement Park. i enjoyed that better than Kinder's Gardens.
00:37:01
Speaker
So that was good. When I had spare time, I quickly went and did some short form content at some smaller parks. Like I went to like Compounce when I was at Six Flags New England. You had a great time there.
00:37:12
Speaker
I loved it. Great time. Great time. bo ash Wait, you and Jen can share the story. You both have not been on Boulder Dash, even though you've been to Lake Compounds, correct? oh It looks so good.
00:37:25
Speaker
It looks so good. Yeah, I was there in like peak fall looking at the most beautiful fall foliage and not riding Boulder Dash.
00:37:35
Speaker
what yeah is it good i was drunk and don't remember my night ride very well so night ride on that night ride on that would be incredible oh my gosh oh it is yeah it is incredible yeah i wouldn't know play compounds come on we had someone from america and australia both on this podcast and they both didn't get to red bull Yeah, what's going on?
00:37:59
Speaker
What are you guys doing? ah herschen Well, apparently Hershen bought you, so thank God. yeah
00:38:05
Speaker
Yeah, we'll see. We'll see if we get it the next time. However, it will be a fear coaster. Very good. It is the best. The best Skyrocket. yeah Well, I think I was saying that, and then I wrote, was it Superman at Discovery Kingdom?
00:38:23
Speaker
Oh, yeah, that doesn't have comfort colors either. Yeah. of them are pretty good. Oh, didn't even know about that. But goes through, like, a tunnel, so thought it has, like, a head-chopper effect. That's true. So maybe, yeah. Okay. So, all right. Well...
00:38:36
Speaker
There is this like kind of a sick intrigue of like seeing people suffer. So it is kind of cool that you have the bad parks on there every now and then. Just to see how ah how truly awful of a day it is.
00:38:48
Speaker
ah Yeah. but Sometimes like I'm kind of excited. like that's like I put on some like like on the compass challenge. There were just parks that are just like parks that you wouldn't really put on on a road trip just because it's, you know, obscure, random, nothing.
00:39:06
Speaker
Like for me, I would never have planned to probably go to Beach Bend like... maybe Maybe eventually down the line. But Beachbone is like a park that you're just like, oh, we'll just skip over, go to Holiday World. Holiday World's like right there. You know plan to do a road trip that way.
00:39:22
Speaker
But like some parks I just went to and I just fell in love with just because, I don't know, there's there's some really cute family parks. Like I went to frigging Del Grosso's.
00:39:34
Speaker
Oh, my gosh. Yeah. Like I would never have gone there if it wasn't for the Compass. So... Love that. just Just discovering just random parks that, you know, family owned and just, they definitely don't have the best coasters, but you can tell that there's just like love going into those parks. Like another one is like Wild Adventures.
00:39:59
Speaker
Terrible lineup of coasters. But I honestly had a great time there. So that's why I like, I like doing this cause it, I don't only get to showcase, you know, some parks that don't get a lot of love cause a lot of people don't go there, I guess.
00:40:16
Speaker
Um, but yeah, I also get to fall in love with my, uh, in fall in love with those parks myself and, and now I kind of want to go back, but I don't have a choice cause the wheel. will help you Yeah.
00:40:30
Speaker
um So this is the part in the episode, guys, that I bring up Frontier City. ah Did you get to go to Frontier City? no. no it wasn't like it was on the Compass Challenge.
00:40:41
Speaker
um But yeah, it's just parks like that. that Some parks don't get a ah lot of love, right? I know. It is like one of my favorite parks I've been to. it That Schwartzgolf is so good. Oh my gosh.
00:40:54
Speaker
Like the lineup is never anything I would have traveled to. And it's one of my favorite parks ever. I love it. Yeah. Jen jen really likes Schwarzkopf. I might actually might have shouted you out, because I think I told you this, the very first shot of the first part that I got in the championship was Nessie at Hansa.
00:41:13
Speaker
Yeah. yeah Is that Nessie? I think that's Nessie. Am I at Hansa? Yeah. yeah I call myself a certain thing that I can't say without Allison bleeping me out, but I'll say it when we're done recording um for Schwartzgaff.
00:41:29
Speaker
I think we might be able to take some guesses here. um There's some implied alliteration there, I think. Yeah, there's some implied alliteration. that is That's me. yeah i was ah I was panicking. I almost didn't pinpoint Hansa. I could not find it Yeah. That would have been and you ba i wouldve set the tone for a loss for sure if I couldn't find a park that I had been to. I eventually got at the last second.
00:41:57
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. I don't think I'd be able to pinpoint that on a map, but I don't i also i didn't notice that I was driving in the wrong direction and nowhere near Europa Park when I was leaving. That's also a hard thing about Geoguessr is you might know what exactly that park is, but where is it on a map?
00:42:14
Speaker
Some people might not even find it. Oh, yeah. Yeah, like... i i Nope. I lost. This is where my ah my lack of knowledge of park layouts would also be to my detriment because you can put me in a park I know, but I have no idea where I am in that park.
00:42:31
Speaker
Yeah. So once yeah once you find the park on the map, you got to find where it is inside the park as well. Yeah, I would be, i would not be doing well ah at all.
00:42:44
Speaker
So now you've just done the Compass in the US, right? Yes, yes. Is there any potential future trips where Europe is involved in that idea?
00:43:00
Speaker
We'll see. We'll see. But I have the wheel anymore. The wheel's gone. Well, I mean, it can't be that expensive to get a new one, right? tra True, true.
00:43:11
Speaker
Or is that your like retirement of it? Yeah, well, so if a a lot of people actually haven't seen it because I do it as well. you You get to near the end of a video and you just click off the video. But right at episode seven of the Mystery Wheel Challenge, because I finished at Waldemere,
00:43:27
Speaker
and So at the end of that challenge, the last like 10 seconds of that video is me throwing the wheel into Lake Erie. Cause I was i done with the wheel. It didn't send me to Silver Dollar City.
00:43:39
Speaker
Didn't send me to Canada's Wonderland. oh I'm done. Send me to frigging Elitch Gardens. Stupid wheel. Damn wheel. So I threw that in the ocean and...
00:43:51
Speaker
Since I've been back in Australia, I've been having some PTSD and some nightmares, but ah that's all good. So, um yeah, it's good. I don't have the wheel anymore. I'm stress-free right now.
00:44:04
Speaker
um But, yeah, potential challenges for sure. I mean, that but this comes out on the 5th. So, this Sunday, I'm announcing my next challenge.
00:44:17
Speaker
So, whatever that challenge is, you'll you'll find out on Sunday.
00:44:23
Speaker
Very, very excited for that. I'm excited. I was going to say, if you ever like by chance did want to bring the wheel back, we know what would be funny is you could go to Cedar Point. Because you threw it in ah Waldemere, right?
00:44:35
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, Just start it by like, you're on the beach at Cedar Point you're like... What is that? And it comes like floating in. That would be incredible.
00:44:46
Speaker
Yeah. That would be so good. I feel like you have to bring it back just for that.
00:44:55
Speaker
And then just put like parts that you want to go with it. Only put those parts on the wheel. And Frontier City. a front is it Frontier City. Has to be on there.
00:45:06
Speaker
Yeah. Frontier City absolutely has to be on the wheel. Yeah.
00:45:13
Speaker
right All right, Allison, do you want to ask that i feel this next question? The the only one that hasn't crossed out yet is your kind of thing. Yeah. um So I like kind of hearing about people's creative processes in terms of like actually creating their content. And I was curious about like, what's your video editing process like? Do you have kind of a different process for GeoGuessr versus the more Mystery Wheel vlog style?
00:45:39
Speaker
Okay. um Yeah. GeoGuessr. So we, GeoGuessr was a bit different cause I would share my screen and then take that screen recording.

Content Creation and Editing Process

00:45:51
Speaker
I use Premiere Pro, put it into Premiere Pro, take the um webcams from each person, chuck it in there. And then just pretty much general clip, like basic clipping on that just to get rid of some dead spaces and whatnot.
00:46:09
Speaker
um Yeah, that one's pretty straightforward. It's definitely gonna be changing how I edit it in season four though. That'll be a lot more challenging. For the Mystery Wheel and Compass Challenge, well, actually my 2023 road trip,
00:46:26
Speaker
I edited those videos and I was doing a lot of editing, like adding things and sometimes would take me like 10, 12 hours to just do one video. um But then I kind of, i I was like, I kind of want to cut it back when I do these these challenges. So,
00:46:44
Speaker
They're like really like fast paced clipping on them. So pretty much i I try and do like no dead space. So it's me talking and if there's dead space, I cut it out.
00:46:59
Speaker
So it's just like really quick editing and that's just the the style that I've gone for when I do these things. So,
00:47:11
Speaker
then Then there's my short form content, which is stupid because that takes four five hours and it's a one minute video. So that's just dumb.
00:47:23
Speaker
um I don't know. The the world's going to a weird place with short form content, but it's what people are consuming these days. So you want to um want to put a lot of effort into that for sure.
00:47:36
Speaker
But yeah. Do you have a preference short form or long form? What was that? Sorry. Do you have a preference for short form versus long form? Um, I, I, not a preference cause I, I do both.
00:47:52
Speaker
Um, and I love doing both.
00:47:56
Speaker
Uh, I guess the, the YouTube long form is more for my series that I do. and then short form would be for, say I get invited to a media day or something. I would do short form content for that because I can reach more people through that, through like my TikTok and all that.
00:48:15
Speaker
Uh, and then the YouTube is pretty much dedicated to my series, just GeoGuessr and Challenges.

Riley's Podcast and Local Park Visits

00:48:23
Speaker
That's about it. Makes sense.
00:48:27
Speaker
Now, before we get to our listener questions or comments, um you're on a podcast, aren't you? Yeah, we we do a podcast here in Australia. We pretty much just cover Australian stuff. we We do talk about overseas stuff like American coasters and whatnot. But mainly, like we we look at our, like all the analytics and everything and it's like 80 to 90% Australian. So we we do like 80 to 90% of the show Australia and then we jump overseas for the last bit. But yeah, we do podcast here.
00:49:01
Speaker
For the theme park cartel podcast? Did i say that correct? Yeah, that's us. That's us. Shout out. maybe Maybe people will get that American percentage a little higher. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, that's the goal. Yeah.
00:49:15
Speaker
Because, I mean, I want to go to Australia one day. I want some DC rivals and some Scooby-Doo. but Yeah. One day. giant Luna Park mounts. Yes.
00:49:26
Speaker
I still haven't been there. Oh, that's funny. Yeah. it's Either one. I've been to Luna park Melbourne. Like I was, i was born in Melbourne, so I grew up there. um so I've been there. I haven't been on like scenic railway yet, but that was probably before my time when I was scared of coasters, but yeah, it's it's kind of weird that I've been to all these like even obscure American theme parks and I still haven't been literally down South to the park.
00:49:54
Speaker
yeah Yeah, that is kind of, that's why I'm a little surprised by it. Like you've, you've been to Del Grasso's, but you haven't been to Leeds Park. Yeah. but It's kind of weird.
00:50:06
Speaker
I recently just went to a theme park that has two credits. That's literally an hour and a half away from me. I finally went there a month ago. Yeah. i love that Allison, correct me if I'm wrong. I'm pretty sure Riley, you're the only person here on this podcast right now. That's been to Beach Bend.
00:50:23
Speaker
No, I've been to Beach Bend. I don't even know what Beach Bend is. I've been to Kentucky. I've never been to Kentucky. They have a random VCI. Yeah, Kentucky Rumbler. That was great.
00:50:36
Speaker
Have you been to Wild Adventures? You had to have, right? Me? Yeah. I used to have a season pass because I drive between Jacksonville and Atlanta all the time. Right, yeah. would stop there randomly, and now I just... Trying to find a park that only Riley's been to in the States.
00:50:50
Speaker
I haven't been to Nevada. Is it in Florida? South Georgia. South Georgia. from the border ofbausta
00:50:59
Speaker
Which came up on, I believe, Sunday's episode. Yeah. or Sorry, two weeks ago at this point. Yeah.
00:51:10
Speaker
All right, who wants to ask her the first question? Yeah, I can jump in. um This is from Guinness and Scotch. um They said, yes, I'm obsessed with the GeoGuessr series. My husband makes fun of me for screaming at the TV every time i know the location.
00:51:27
Speaker
yeah More of a comment, but we love it. I think a lot of people will do that, hey? And I can see exactly why.
00:51:37
Speaker
I get frustrated when I'm not even playing. I'm like... Yeah. You do and When you're in the hot seat, though, that's when you panic. And it's ah! You see that clock ticking, and it's whole... whole different ball game.
00:51:50
Speaker
I think people are probably also scream at me because like when I was doing the mystery or challenge on the compass challenge, I do no, no research at all on the park. So I'd literally just walk into a park blind.
00:52:02
Speaker
And I think probably, probably Brian was screaming at me when I walked into six flags, new England and I was trying to find Superman. And I was just, I was just like, okay, I'm going left here. And I was like, I've definitely gone the wrong way with that. No, I appreciate how genuine it is. Like I, it's,
00:52:17
Speaker
I love seeing people like discover things for the first time because there there is like ah an intrigue in that to me. So no, actually, I'm not like... I respect the the no research. I really do because then you know it's like nothing is is fake.
00:52:31
Speaker
Yeah, that's right. But then you're also screaming at me if I miss a ride. yeah Well, yeah, you got to do no research, but also make sure you get all the credits. Yeah, um i there's going to be, i don't know if I've missed one already, but I'm sure the comments will let me know. But yeah, I'm sure it'll happen where i I miss like a major ride or coaster or dark ride or something. Actually, I did miss, i've I missed a couple dark rides just because I didn't know. Like I didn't even know that... um There's a dark right at Holiday World across from Voyage.
00:53:05
Speaker
Oh, Goblet Getaway. Yeah, I didn't even know that was there. That's that's what happens when you do no research. Yeah. Oh, wait. So that brings up a really important question. When you were at Wadamere, did you ride the, oh, it's like a trippy. Wacky shack. Yeah.
00:53:22
Speaker
Yeah. I love that thing. That thing is great. not a ride. It's walking. It's so good. um'm I'm sure people who like research that park were probably like, okay, that's definitely one you got to do. But me walking in, I'm like, what the hell is that thing? I'm like, that's crazy.
00:53:37
Speaker
but It is fun to discover things that you never heard of. Yeah. And when I watch... I'm trying not to do... I'm going to Europe this summer. I'm actually trying not to do too much research, especially into like the dark rides. I know the coasters, but... Yeah.
00:53:49
Speaker
And that... Yeah, that's that's what I like. I want to make content that I like watching. and I love watching people's first reactions to things. So, yeah. That's what makes you stand out, honestly. And it is so...
00:54:01
Speaker
hard to think of creative ways to do this hobby. And that's how, i like, that's why I generally think you are going to be, you already are like a rising star in like the, the, the enthusiast YouTube community, because no one's doing what you're doing.
00:54:18
Speaker
And that is so hard. But see, that's why it's a good thing. You don't know what you're doing. That's what makes you, you. i appreciate that. Thank you Of course.
00:54:31
Speaker
I should ask this and this next one. ah Yeah. From Coaster Cuzzies. Oh, shout out Coaster Cuzzies. Literally shout out Coaster Cuzzies. From the very beginning, he was the second episode when he heard I was coming on.

Spontaneous Trips and Travel Stories

00:54:45
Speaker
and no, he was the fourth episode. It was after me. After, yeah. He had no idea who was playing. He said, I think Brian's going to win. Yeah, he called it. but pro I proved him right. Anyway, he said, what is your favorite game of rock, paper, scissors you've ever watched?
00:55:01
Speaker
Well, if you just want to go to Coaster 365 versus Coaster, because he's the genius. Enjoy watching that. That was hilarious to watch. I believe it six or seven rounds.
00:55:14
Speaker
Yeah. I'm like, what what is happening here? you got You guys have the same brain. Well, technically not, because you beat him. but And then we had the Wi-Fi wi-fi issues. So technically that game like lasted a week.
00:55:25
Speaker
Yeah. I'm glad we sold those issues. those Yeah, seriously. Was that the one where I randomly changed days or something like that after the rock, paper, scissors? Yes. Yeah. wo Because I was i used um OBS to record the screen, but I was creating some mad lag. Like, yeah.
00:55:45
Speaker
yeah Yeah, that's the hard thing about recording as well because you have to, you know, deal with lag and all that. And towards the end of the season, we kind of got that under wraps. But, yeah, was definitely a struggle. I think the the first episode I recorded, Brian, something was definitely wrong because the recording software stopped up. And, yeah, and you still got a really good score.
00:56:06
Speaker
um But, yeah, it that In my head, that should be eliminated in season four because you'll be playing on your own screens.
00:56:17
Speaker
I hope. I hope. chris
00:56:22
Speaker
sir I want to skip ahead a little in the questions to one that just makes me laugh because I'm very curious. ah Tim asked, will any wheel be able to get you back to Six Flags St. Louis?
00:56:35
Speaker
Not a wheel because that's gone. But...
00:56:40
Speaker
i I kind of do want to go back to Six Flags St. Louis, but like a lot of people think I hate Six Flags St. Louis. it's It's just turned into a running joke at this point.
00:56:51
Speaker
if If people don't know what happened, like I went i went to, i drove from Beach Bend to Six Flags St. Louis. I think it was like a four to five hour drive, pretty far. Stayed the night in St. Louis, went to the park in the morning.
00:57:04
Speaker
They said I couldn't go in with a GoPro. I was vlogging with a GoPro at the time. In my head, I was like, okay, they probably think I'm going to film on rides. So I was like, I don't film on rides. You can check out my YouTube channel. I don't film on rides.
00:57:18
Speaker
And then this is a thing I hate because I record everything. Like obviously you've seen, I record the whole, my whole trip, like not only at the theme park, but I record, you know, checking into hotels and and all that. So I don't know why I wasn't recording at this point because I record everything. But in my head, I was like, this security guard these security guards are so wrong. They don't know what they're talking about.
00:57:43
Speaker
So I was like so confident that they were going to let me in. And they were like, you can't go in with the GoPro. And I was like, what do you mean? It's just a little camera. And they're like, no, you can't go in.
00:57:55
Speaker
And I was like, I asked for header security, header security came over and she's like, yeah, no, you can't come in with a GoPro. was like, what? That doesn't make any sense. Like I'm not filming on any rides. I'm just vlogging my day.
00:58:08
Speaker
was like, you can come in with your phone. You can come in with a big DSLR camera. GoPro, nah, nah. So,
00:58:20
Speaker
Look, if if Six Flags St. Louis want to give me ah an apology to either say, one, we we hadn't updated our website to say no GoPros around the park, which that would have fallen on me because I didn't do any, you know, look into that.
00:58:32
Speaker
Sure. Or that it's true, the security guards were wrong. that's That's the only two options in my head. If you get the wrong security guard, especially it's at a Six Flags,
00:58:43
Speaker
that can happen that not to bring up Taylor again but like the first like time I really met him and Sarah like at least like hanging out a park was at Six Flags New England and we were gonna film like literally their last scene for the RMC documentary and we got a one bad security guards like you can't take that camera and even though whatever the rules were at the time there was no issue Taylor literally, I think, already like had it screenshotted on his phone just in case an issue came up.
00:59:14
Speaker
And he was just like... He's like, out of his pocket. Here. Here's the rules. I feel like, though, I think years and years ago, didn't Taylor have an issue at, like, Six Flags over Georgia? Yeah, they had a whole... Yeah.
00:59:29
Speaker
So I feel like he's prepared and ready to go. Because that happened before New England, so he was, like, ready to go. Yeah. Six Flags is, like, they... They're not... I mean, hopefully it's changing now, but they are not good at, like...
00:59:44
Speaker
making sure all of their employees know the rules of equipment and it's foot minute stuff. I'm not sure if it is the... I'm not sure if they get an outside company for security or something or if they are just employees.
00:59:57
Speaker
But it's it is weird how it's, like, different across parks, like, in the chain. Like, you can go to one park and that rule's allowed. Go to another park, it's not. So it's just, like, and it needs to be consistent.
01:00:09
Speaker
But... Yeah, Six Flags St. Louis. I don't hate the park because I ah i didn't go inside the park, so i don't know what it's like. But um yeah, it's just been kind of become a running ah running joke at this point on my channel.
01:00:25
Speaker
You just need a whole Missouri tour because Caleb was tra talking trash about Worlds of Fun. And I actually really like Worlds of Fun, so I think he's wrong. Okay. redemption at st louis and then you can finally go to silver dollar city yeah yeah yeah i was gonna say you at silver dollar city and not going to or you at st louis and not going to silver dollar city that had to hurt especially bad you're right there yeah and yeah i i really i walked out after that happened and i was like i don't know what to do because this is my whole thing like the the wheel decides where i go
01:01:00
Speaker
And then I was like, I'll just call the airtime Mike. He'll tell me what to do. And he's like, go to holiday world. I was like, okay, I'm going to holiday world. That was the closest park to me at the point. So i was like, ah. Right. guess that makes sense. And I had a great diet holiday day at holiday world, even though i was there for four hours, still a good day.
01:01:15
Speaker
But, um, Yeah, that kind of ah kind of hurt because I was so close to Silverdale City and then the wheel just sent me back the other way. i ended up, that was the craziest day. Six Flags St. Louis, going there in the morning.
01:01:30
Speaker
I think the park opened at 10 a.m. m not getting in about by 1030, I was driving three and a half hours to holiday world, four hours in holiday worlds. And then that, that night I spun Dollywood and that was a five hour and 15 minute drive. Oh my God.
01:01:47
Speaker
Yeah. that was like nine hour drive in that one day. I think I got to Tennessee at like 3am, 2am. I don't like Fantastic segue into the next question from Alex.
01:01:59
Speaker
When you do wheel challenges, do you prefer to drive or fly from park to park? See, when I was doing the compass challenge, I was like, you know, I don't have a day spare, but when I was in the mystery wheel challenge,
01:02:15
Speaker
i I, had a day of travel. So in my head, i was like, Oh, the the mystery wheel one's going to be easy. I've got a full day to just relax and just travel on that day. But it was actually a lot tougher to do that challenge for sure.
01:02:29
Speaker
Um, even though. like you walk out of a park and you don't know how far you're going to drive that night. At least I had a car and that, that car was a really like good saving point of the compass challenge there. Cause I could just drive straight away.
01:02:48
Speaker
Whereas when you bring into flights and delays and everything like that, that's, that was a lot more challenging for sure. um And then the cost of all that as well. And so yeah, it was,
01:03:04
Speaker
it Yeah, it was a challenge. the ah The only scary one I had was after the compass challenge when I i had to get a night ride on the beast. It was just a thing that I had to do because I visited in 2023 and the beast was close, so I'd never ridden it before.
01:03:19
Speaker
So I was like, I have to do it. And I think it went dark. It gets dark in the summertime at like 9 p.m. there, right? Yeah, because it's like right on the edge of the time zone change. So it's like the Very west of the East Coast. Yeah.
01:03:36
Speaker
So i was like, oh man, I have to stay here. Like, I think I left the park at maybe 10, 30, 11 PM walking out of that park. And that that was some stupid parts of my challenge where like, I think I did it in the mystery real challenge when i was walking out of Universal as well.
01:03:52
Speaker
I'm just talking to this random lady. I'm like, do you know where you're going tomorrow? And she's like, yeah, we're going to Universal Studios Florida. I'm like, hey, I don't know where I'm going. Yeah. don't know where I'm going. Same thing happened. I was ah i was at Roller Coaster Rodeo with um Airtime Mike and and costa Coaster cousin Caleb.
01:04:08
Speaker
And we were we were planning our days out and Caleb had the rental car and he was he was going to drive me around. And he goes, yeah, I can drop you off at the airport. What time's your flight?
01:04:20
Speaker
And I was like, I don't have a flight yet. and he's like, oh yeah. ah yeah So um yeah, to answer the question was definitely, i in my head, I thought the mystery world challenge was going to be a lot more time freeing with that day of travel, but it was actually a lot harder for sure.
01:04:43
Speaker
Okay.
01:04:46
Speaker
You're a modern day Jack Dawson. i don't know if you've seen Titanic, but he's... That speech where he like, I don't know where I'm going to wake up every day. Like, life's a gift. i That wasn't the part that made me laugh. but The part that made me laugh is saying, i don't know if you've seen Titanic, as if it wasn't like one of the highest grossing films in the world. don't know. Not everyone's seen.
01:05:06
Speaker
I've seen it, but I can't remember that scene. That's when he's at the dinner table talking to all the rich folk. Ah, yeah, yeah, okay. It was just so funny you followed it up with like, i don't know if you've seen Titanic, as if it's not.
01:05:20
Speaker
Titanic. There are plenty of great movies I haven't seen. know some It made me laugh. Alright, we have another one here um from Lam Lam Lam Lam.
01:05:35
Speaker
He says, um what were your favorite and your least favorite experiences and memories with the um mystery wheel? Oh, wow. Okay. Some good memories.
01:05:47
Speaker
was going to say, we might have already heard the worst one. Right. yeah Yeah, that Six Flags St. Louis part was a bit of a A bit of a, what do I do at this point moment? And then obviously there was the part where I had to go Elitch Gardens, which flying there, like paying all that money, flying there, staying there.
01:06:12
Speaker
And even when I went to Denver, I was like, I'm going to a terrible theme park. I'm going book terrible accommodations. So I stayed at like at a super eight or something. I don't know. Classic.
01:06:23
Speaker
Yeah, very close. And you're at, like, the world's worst airport. Like... Like, everything about that trip sounds like it was awful for such, like, you're in the Rockies.
01:06:35
Speaker
Yeah. um Some good and some bad moments. So... What are some good moments that I loved going back to Disneyland? I hadn't been there since 2015 and just spinning Disneyland.
01:06:51
Speaker
I was like, yes, I can finally go back. um And at Disneyland's just an incredible park. Brian, you haven't been have you? Nope. what are you What are you doing? What are you doing?
01:07:04
Speaker
yeah I've been to Disney World like, i don't know, 20 times at this point. Yeah. Yeah. I claim I'm this diehard Disney fan and I know. but I've been to Tokyo and Disneyland Paris.
01:07:14
Speaker
You've been to Tokyo DisneySea before you've been to Disneyland, which is ah just wild. Megan's been to Tokyo Disneyland twice and has not been to Disneyland in California. That's even worse. Disneyland is so good.
01:07:27
Speaker
Um, but yeah, there was some, there was some real big high moments. There's definitely some low moments. Um, she's pinpointing specific moments of those challenges. Definitely hard. Cause this is going back a year now. Cause I filmed that in June, May and June, 2024.
01:07:47
Speaker
Um, twenty twenty four um
01:07:53
Speaker
Honestly, i like it like discovering just these random parks that I thought I would never discover, especially on the compass challenge, just those little parks that I fell in love with that. That was great meeting people.
01:08:06
Speaker
Uh, there was, think his name was Dale at beach band, just talking to him. Just, it was just meeting people on the way. It was just some really cool, cool moments as for sure.
01:08:20
Speaker
I just thought of like my own question aside from the listeners. I apologize if this is like too deep. But as someone that also like did a challenge in a way of you know trying to do 365 reviews in one year, was there ever any like point where you just had doubt of like, what am I doing?
01:08:40
Speaker
like Is this worth it? Yeah, for sure. Especially... ah Especially half... Because... For financial like like ways, the Compass Challenge was fine because technically it's just like a road trip that you just don't have planned out.
01:09:03
Speaker
Right. You're, you're spending pretty much the same amount of money you would spend planning that trip anyway. Whereas the mystery wheel one halfway through that, I was like, I've spent so much money seeing my bank account just go down so far. Yeah. I feel you there.
01:09:22
Speaker
Definitely moments. I was like, this is stupid, but all for creating content. That's that. Yeah. Once it's done, there is definitely a satisfaction.
01:09:32
Speaker
Yeah, for sure. It's like, yeah, you know what? It was all worth it. But in the moment, sometimes you get those days where like, this is stupid. Yeah, yeah. For what? Especially, you know, you get low moments every now and then. but Yeah, absolutely.
01:09:48
Speaker
I do think we we're two of the crazier people as far as like,
01:09:55
Speaker
why are we creating this kind of content? Yeah. I mean, I have those thoughts even without creating the content just going on stupid trips. Well, you can like go every somewhere every weekend. That's your own problem.
01:10:09
Speaker
For a, well, California trip that I will have already talked about, but have not talked about yet where we were there for like four nights and like two of the nights we didn't sleep at all. And I'm like, God, why do I do this?
01:10:23
Speaker
Wow. Yeah. I don't create the content for it. I mean, talked about it on the podcast, but all for riding coasters. I know.
01:10:33
Speaker
I'm more of a take a couple pictures and show up and BS on a podcast type of person. Yeah,
01:10:42
Speaker
yeah it's funny because Jen's famous... One of her famous phrases is, I'm just along for the ride, which... I feel that fits you too, Riley. and yeah Yeah. I was very excited because I'm usually alone in this podcast with chaos and not planning anything.
01:10:57
Speaker
I literally just show up and I have other people tell me where I'm going. i very rarely have a plan. That's me. yeah It's like I never have a plan. I just book a book and go.
01:11:11
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. and And I'm really bad at it too. Like even when I have a plan, I'm just really bad at planning. So I've just learned not to have a plan. So. Yeah.
01:11:22
Speaker
Yeah. whereas Sometimes it's it's more fun to do that. Oh, yeah. Yeah, that's how I thought I was going to Europa Park and I ended up at Fantasialand. was just going to say, like you can have all the plan in the world and then ah your boyfriend shows up and says, oh, let's do something different.
01:11:38
Speaker
except just yeah Except he just didn't tell me and moved me to the wrong direction and I just didn't know German. and
01:11:48
Speaker
Yeah. I don't, I'm not a planner. I'm just here for the ride. I mean, I, I was chilling in January and then I got this random email from a travel company and was just like, we're going to send you to Japan next month. And I was like, what?
01:12:05
Speaker
Like the randomest things just happen. And it's, it's just, I like, I like when it's just like sprung on you like that. and it's just, you know, and it's more exciting to me.
01:12:17
Speaker
Oh, it's the best. Yeah. Yeah. It's so nice. It's like, yeah, it's so fun that way. When you don't know, like, I don't even think I, when we went to Frontier City, I don't even think I really knew we were going to Frontier City for sure. Like, Bryant had texted me and was like, listen, i have to go here or here.
01:12:36
Speaker
in March, you down? And I was like, sure, let's go. yeah And best I show up and we're like, oh, by the way, we're going to drive to Frontier City and also go to Frontier City.
01:12:48
Speaker
was like, okay. I think that's true. yeah yeah like it told you on the plane, like oh yeah, we're not just going over Texas. Yeah, you told me, like I think we were getting dinner at the airport when you were like, oh yeah, by the way, Kelly and Tom are here and we're going to drive to Frontier City with them.
01:13:04
Speaker
Cool. Let's go.
01:13:07
Speaker
And now here we are. I can't shut up about Silver Bullet at Frontier City. Or like when speaking of that, when we filmed for the RMC documentary, like, so the premieres in Idaho in three weeks, you want to go? I'm like, well, I'm getting married the week after that.
01:13:24
Speaker
if Megan, can I go to Idaho well six days before our wedding? As long as she said, as long as everything, everything is planned. I'm like, let's go.
01:13:38
Speaker
So spontaneous trips. Sometimes they're missed. Fantastic.

Future Trips and Themed Rides Discussion

01:13:43
Speaker
You guys know what I did plan, though, for my next Europe of trip? The only thing I really have planned is that I will be riding that chicken coaster.
01:13:52
Speaker
If it's I have to drag Joey, I will be riding that chicken coaster. I expect nothing less. I don't even know the name of the park. it
01:14:09
Speaker
Schwaben. Yeah, I did know that actually. Schwaben Park. And I need to ride that chicken coaster. I wonder if that's in G, I guess. yeah um It is, but they're building the coaster.
01:14:20
Speaker
Oh, okay. It's not up yet. yeah okay i check Please tell me you know the song for the chicken coaster. you even know the actual name of the coaster? Wilder Hilder. Thank you. I do.
01:14:32
Speaker
You have to go. well well ah You have to go look up this song at some point. It is the best. It's the greatest theme park. It is the greatest. It is the greatest themed ride. And it's like, ah what even is it called? I don't even know. like Zaxxpin, right?
01:14:49
Speaker
Yeah, it's it's a really stupid coaster. It's the best themed coaster in the planet. I thought the greatest song on a coaster, I think I heard it on this podcast, by the way. is Isn't it on Arthur at Europa Park?
01:15:02
Speaker
Let's go.
01:15:05
Speaker
I mean, I've never, like, I don't do research, obviously, so I hadn't heard of it until you guys mentioned it And i was like, OK, now I'm intrigued. Yeah.
01:15:16
Speaker
Yeah. I i think Brian might know this part. i don't I think this part was spoiled. No? I don't remember. You some of the lyrics. Yes. Yeah. I still can't believe it. Like, my jaw is on the floor every time I write it.
01:15:30
Speaker
In two months. Yeah, that's the only spoiler you get for Europa Park that that song is in

GeoGuessr Matchups and Funny Moments

01:15:38
Speaker
Arthur. And it's in it's insane. And they have a new coaster that's not as good as Voyage.
01:15:43
Speaker
Anyway.
01:15:46
Speaker
Okay, on that note, see you guys. Have a good one. We got two more.
01:15:55
Speaker
Or we got a rant. All right. So ah Ethan asks, two-part question again, ah what's been your favorite matchup on your GeoGuessr series so far?
01:16:06
Speaker
I guess I could, don't know if that'd be for overall or maybe just this season. know. And then what's been the funniest moment in that series? Oh, okay.
01:16:18
Speaker
I honestly think the matchup with Bryant and and Caleb is definitely up there for sure. that was Like, even though even if he 5,000 that last round, he still would have lost. But in my head, I thought that he was going to win by point if he did that.
01:16:33
Speaker
i wasn't sure. yeah Yeah. No, I was sweating bullets. And it was probably like... Like Caleb probably wasn't expecting to do that well either. Cause he obviously got five us parks in the regular season. And I think he's okay at Europe, uh, European parks, but he's not like, you know, he's not, he don't, I don't think he researches them crazily. So, um, like he, he knew like park asterisks was in France.
01:17:02
Speaker
And it was always like, heated he figured it out like halfway through. Yeah. And he was he never like completely bombed it. Yeah. And he was always in the right area, which has made it even worse for me because I went first.
01:17:15
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. And I'm like. Yeah. I'll never forget like when he was trying to find Port Aventura. And. I knew it was near Barcelona and he's just like slowly, slowly going up the coast of Spain.
01:17:31
Speaker
And I'm like, he's going to get it. He's going to get it the last second. Yeah. And then thankfully another park like popped up, which like halted him for like 10 seconds. Yeah. Yeah. If that didn't happen, he would have found it probably. Yeah.
01:17:44
Speaker
Yeah. but yeah That was, is he has some funny calls. Like i recorded with him in season two and and he got a park called movie land. And obviously we have movie world here in Australia and movie land pops up and he's like, Oh, we're in Australia.
01:18:00
Speaker
i was just like laughing too. It's like, no, we're not. But, um, yeah, that, that matchup is good. There's a lot of matchups that we had that pretty much came down to the last round, which is pretty crazy.
01:18:13
Speaker
um Funniest moment. I got a shout out my boy DZ rides. He had this moment where we're in Switzerland in the, in the Alps and he had this moment. Okay. He's like, okay, it's Switzerland, Switzerland. And then he's like, okay, let's open up the map. And he's like, let's go to Sweden.
01:18:37
Speaker
I don't know. In his head, he just had an SW, I think, and he just said Sweden. And then in the end, he goes, oh, why did I choose that? But um there's been some funny moments for sure.
01:18:50
Speaker
um But yeah, those are the two that that come to mind. I want to go like through the series now and try to see what I can remember.
01:19:02
Speaker
Um, I mean, even, even Taylor guessing Memphis kiddie park. That was fantastic. i he would know like the most obscure parks. Oh,
01:19:15
Speaker
When ah you were with the Steph and you couldn't get out of that lingerie shop. ah Yeah. That was great. Yeah. That's so weird because obviously it's Google Maps, right? And some sometimes you can move and sometimes you can't. That one we could move.
01:19:32
Speaker
But then sometimes Geoguester does this weird thing where it puts you in a spot, which obviously put us in a lingerie store. I don't know how that happened. And you like couldn't get out. i couldn't get out. matter what hour you in. Yeah.
01:19:44
Speaker
I'm like, is Riley doing this purposely? Does he just want to... It was so random. um But yeah there's yeah, obviously, there's some obscure locations and sometimes that happens.
01:19:56
Speaker
Airtime Mike, I got shout him out. ah While he... Didn't do so hot. He was definitely a very entertaining. Yeah. ela He tries so hard and I think he's a lot better than what he actually does. He just like, he just like stresses in the moment. Like he knows where sea breeze is. He got put in sea breeze and he just like, ah, where is it? He knows where it is. And he's like, ah, yeah, it's quite funny. straight up messaged him after one of the episodes and I don't remember what I messaged him about. And I was like, bro, really?
01:20:28
Speaker
Yeah, he's funny. He's a funny dude. I'm literally going back to my text to see if I can find it. Of course, it's not loading right now.
01:20:40
Speaker
Shout out anti-mic. Yeah, we love that man.
01:20:47
Speaker
all right. I think we can move to the next question while Allison's looking for that. I'm straight up looking for it. We have Gary. He said, what is the most bizarre location that has come up in the game up to this point?
01:21:02
Speaker
Oh, okay. I'm brainstorming too, because I'm like... There's been a couple. The mall and in Ukraine was... That was up there, but I think that was also the lingerie store. I think it the same thing. That was the same one, yep.
01:21:18
Speaker
Yeah, that was bizarre. um I did add Six Flags Cadilla, which was pretty funny when that came out. That's so good. but i it no yeah Everyone knew it. So i was just like, ah, that's too easy.
01:21:33
Speaker
um Man, there's been heaps. ah in In yesterday's episode, spoiler alert if you haven't seen it, I can't remember that park in North Dakota.
01:21:46
Speaker
Yeah, that's right. Which I was so impressed. Like, he nailed that. Yeah. Now, great granted, there was a sign that said Bismarck, which I think most Americans would hear Bismarck and be like, ah, where is that? I maybe have heard of it, but I can't pinpoint it.
01:22:04
Speaker
And being from Australia, not only had heard of Bismarck, he's like, oh, that's in North Dakota. I'm like, what? like Jake? going to lose if he knows that. I don't know how he does it, but he...
01:22:17
Speaker
He knows the park and he knows that town that it's in. He's really good with towns like, or cities or whatnot. He knows that. Sometimes he struggles to pinpoint it on the map, but he's like, it's in this town. And then that that's the hard part about it is finding it. So,
01:22:36
Speaker
I wonder how he'll do in season four when he's actually controlling it. Cause it, it might make it, he might be like the favorite. and Maybe i'm not sure, but he's a, he's a good contestant for sure.
01:22:48
Speaker
Was he the one where he saw like one building and he's like, Oh, that's this indoor park in Indonesia. ye Yep. Yep. The boomerang on top of the, the more. yeah yeah Yeah. Yeah. If you zoom in on this exact angle, you'll see a boomerang. Oh, yep.
01:23:02
Speaker
It's crazy. Oh my gosh. Yeah.
01:23:07
Speaker
But there's been some crazy locations. some the Some of the places you found in the US, like I don't know how you you did that. like The park I got in North Carolina, that that was not fun. yeah Yeah. as yeah i had I had to add f FECs because yeah technically they're not theme parks, but they're a type of of ah an amusement location.
01:23:29
Speaker
And yeah, as I said earlier, had to add so many obscure ones just to throw off the best of players. wait i have a random question do you do you do you know do you have like the random um wizard of oz theme park in there that's only open like every like a month out of the year every year i thought that closed down is that still gone it's open a month out of the year really for like fall in oz i think they call it and like south carolina or something right
01:24:01
Speaker
North or south. It's in rock it's in the Rocky Mount, which is like their little mountain. Okay. If it's not, best believe I'll be trying to add it for season four. Hell yeah. Let's go. It's only open. It's literally open, I think, two to three weekends a year. That's it.
01:24:17
Speaker
Just in September. Oh, Stricker's great. I think that's in there as well. Actually, I think that's popped up. It did pop up once. yeah yeah There's also one that the coast has opened a couple times a year in Arizona.
01:24:32
Speaker
That one popped up once as well. oh so ah Washington maybe? thought That one? can't remember what it was. You might be right. I think it's in Phoenix.
01:24:46
Speaker
I can't remember the name of it now. but yeah there is some There's some definitely really random ones in there for sure.
01:24:55
Speaker
Well, that was, uh, we're actually done with questions. ah That was as, uh, awesome of an interview as I, as I hoped it would be. sir Cannot thank you enough, Riley. Seriously.
01:25:06
Speaker
Yeah, this has been fun. real fun I love this. Yeah. i love hearing your creative process and like your thoughts behind all of this. Yeah. Yeah. Sometimes like it my brain is a bit weird and comes up with these stupid things, but.
01:25:22
Speaker
I i do it for content and and and I hope it's entertaining for people to watch. i' Like my my content, I hope, is for people think it's entertaining. You're definitely not going to learn anything from it.
01:25:37
Speaker
But, oh, maybe the Geogester series, maybe you're learning new theme parks. But for the definitely for the the wheel challenge, i ain't going to teach you anything.
01:25:48
Speaker
Well, we have there's literally hundreds of channels where you can learn things. That's why what makes you stand out. Yeah, that's true. For sure. there's yeah go Go watch their channels. For sure. Well, before we go, we got to end with a trivia question, as I do. The answer to last week's trivia question, um I don't know because I haven't asked it yet.
01:26:08
Speaker
You probably won't come up with question for another couple days. so So episode 16, you're going to get answers to two trivia questions. So for this one, as I like to do, in honor of our guest, it's got to be a trivia question about Australia.
01:26:26
Speaker
So for this one, I think everyone knows the tallest roller coaster in Australia. course Of course, it's DC Rivals. Who is the manufacturer of Australia's second tallest coaster?
01:26:40
Speaker
So you're naming the manufacturer. You're necessarily naming the coaster. Just the manufacturer of Australia's second tallest coaster.
01:26:49
Speaker
So you go. All right. I'm sitting here in my head.

Trivia and Closing Remarks

01:26:54
Speaker
I'm like, I could just do the troll answer and be like, it's still DC rivals because they have the backward seat. And that's the second.
01:27:01
Speaker
Oh, God. It's not another credit. I know you yeah you're always looking for the extra credit, Allison. Always. It is an extra credit. YOLO. Would you count it?
01:27:15
Speaker
Oh, I only, I just take the stance of whatever, like the opposite of whatever the other person is taking. I don't really care. Yeah, no, i would not count that as a separate card. I'm just doing that to be annoying. yeah I'm just here for the drama. I'm going to argue whatever the other person says. i don't I'm just here for the ride.
01:27:32
Speaker
I'm just here for the ride. yeah and the drama, I guess. And definitely the drama. I love a good drama.
01:27:42
Speaker
Riley, you are amazing. Everybody check his channel out. That's so mid. Literally fits inverted and creative maybe more than any other guest out there. Thanks for having me on.
