00:00:07
Speaker
Thanks for tuning in to Loser Kid Pinball Podcast.
00:00:09
Speaker
We are on episode 95.
00:00:10
Speaker
I am Josh Roop.
00:00:11
Speaker
With me, my co-captain, as always.
00:00:13
Speaker
Scott Larson.
00:00:15
Speaker
And Scott, it's been a crazy couple weeks.
00:00:17
Speaker
It's been a fun, adventurous time.
00:00:19
Speaker
It's been really busy.
00:00:21
Speaker
It's been super busy.
00:00:22
Speaker
And we got back from Expo.
00:00:24
Speaker
And you know who held our hands through the whole thing?
00:00:27
Speaker
Keith Ellman.
00:00:29
Speaker
Well, Keith Ellman, too.
00:00:30
Speaker
But Flippin'.
00:00:31
Speaker
Oh, okay.
00:00:32
Speaker
Flipping Out Pinball.
00:00:33
Speaker
Yeah, Flipping Out Pinball.
00:00:34
Speaker
They helped us out with our booth.
00:00:36
Speaker
We got to tag team with them for our Flipping the Script on autism.
00:00:40
Speaker
And his sweet Deadpool LE, which now he's hesitant on selling because he's like, I'm not usually a nostalgic kind of person or believe in physical things, right?
00:00:51
Speaker
Right.
00:00:52
Speaker
Zach's like, you realize like...
00:00:54
Speaker
Elwin, Eric, Roger Sharp, Josh Sharp, Dwight Sullivan.
00:01:00
Speaker
Legends played it.
00:01:01
Speaker
They've all played it.
00:01:02
Speaker
And you and I did too.
00:01:04
Speaker
And it's all on video too.
00:01:09
Speaker
But if you want that pinball, I don't think he's selling Deadpool now, but if you want a pinball machine, get a hold of him.
00:01:15
Speaker
He does have stuff in stock though.
00:01:17
Speaker
He did have Russian stock, I know.
00:01:19
Speaker
And he had
00:01:20
Speaker
um like mandos in stock and i think some other things so if you want to check out his update list he tries to update he has a post pinned to the top of his facebook page and he updates that i want to say every other week uh great list there there's some great pinball machines you know christmas is right around the corner zach will get you hooked up the shipping is insanely fast yeah no he he's he is very on the spot with that yeah
00:01:46
Speaker
and he does great with it so yep next next pinball machine you buy zach and nicole many flipping out pinball all right all right josh so uh so what's new anything happened in the last two weeks besides expo oh i okay so there's expo yeah or us trying to recover from expo uh probably a little of both
00:02:10
Speaker
So Expo happened.
00:02:12
Speaker
When did we record?
00:02:13
Speaker
Was it like Monday before Expo?
00:02:15
Speaker
It was right before Expo, yeah.
00:02:16
Speaker
Yeah, it was right before Expo.
00:02:19
Speaker
We then hopped on a plane.
00:02:20
Speaker
I hopped on a plane.
00:02:21
Speaker
Let's see.
00:02:22
Speaker
I guess in the last two weeks.
00:02:23
Speaker
Sorry, I got Guardians of the Galaxy from Flippin' Out.
00:02:26
Speaker
Put it in my lineup.
00:02:27
Speaker
And it's funny.
00:02:28
Speaker
I got it on Tuesday.
00:02:30
Speaker
I put one game on it.
00:02:32
Speaker
Then we went to Expo the next day.
00:02:35
Speaker
I would like to talk about Guardians after the fact because...
00:02:39
Speaker
Guardians is a good game I've played on location, but now that I have it in a home environment, my opinion has changed of it a little bit.
00:02:44
Speaker
I'll tease that for later.
00:02:46
Speaker
So then do you want to go to your expo?
00:02:49
Speaker
Should we just do it by day by day?
00:02:50
Speaker
Yeah, let's do day by day.
00:02:52
Speaker
Okay.
00:02:52
Speaker
What was your Wednesday like?
00:02:54
Speaker
So Wednesday we flew in, got in about two o'clock or so.
00:02:59
Speaker
Okay.
00:03:00
Speaker
Amanda Hamilton was there at the same time and she had offered her and Mike to drive me from the airport.
00:03:10
Speaker
So we hopped in, went and checked them in.
00:03:14
Speaker
I checked in and then we went down.
00:03:17
Speaker
to help set up the flipping out booth because they, they were just looking for help.
00:03:22
Speaker
And we was like, Oh, well we're around.
00:03:24
Speaker
We should, we'll be able to help out.
00:03:26
Speaker
Yeah.
00:03:29
Speaker
And that basically that was, that was the evening.
00:03:33
Speaker
I, I think we may have grabbed a bite to eat, but I can't really remember what we did.
00:03:38
Speaker
When I ran into you guys, so we got in, I thought you got in around noon or 1230.
00:03:42
Speaker
Okay.
00:03:43
Speaker
Maybe I did.
00:03:44
Speaker
Yeah.
00:03:44
Speaker
Because originally we were supposed to get in.
00:03:47
Speaker
My wife, my mother-in-law and I were supposed to get in around like five o'clock, 530.
00:03:51
Speaker
Mm-hmm.
00:03:53
Speaker
Somehow we lucked out and got on an earlier flight.
00:03:56
Speaker
They had 13 on standby, and apparently 13 people didn't show up.
00:04:01
Speaker
We were the last three on that list, and it was snug in that plane.
00:04:05
Speaker
It was tight.
00:04:07
Speaker
It's like a 20-person plane.
00:04:08
Speaker
Yeah, and you find some of the nicest people on an airplane, and you find some of the biggest jerks on an airplane.
00:04:14
Speaker
Yeah, I guess kind of like pinball, right?
00:04:17
Speaker
yeah and uh anyhow uh we got in around 2 30 mark silk got in around the same time so we grabbed uh an uber after trying to figure out the airport which was funny to me because mark had it more figured out than me and my family did so mark travels more yeah he does this stuff all the time it's like his job

Setting Up and Reflecting on Expo

00:04:37
Speaker
or something something like that yeah so we got back to the hotel and
00:04:41
Speaker
Uh, it was still like four or five before we even got to the hotel because all the shenanigans going on at the airport.
00:04:46
Speaker
Yeah.
00:04:47
Speaker
And then I came down, try to catch up with you guys.
00:04:51
Speaker
And then we went and grabbed a bite to eat.
00:04:53
Speaker
And then, uh, yeah, it was just kind of helping out around down there.
00:04:58
Speaker
I think someone to the tailgate party.
00:05:00
Speaker
Yeah.
00:05:00
Speaker
I was, yeah, I went to the tailgate party.
00:05:03
Speaker
How was the tailgate party?
00:05:04
Speaker
You know, it was cold.
00:05:06
Speaker
Yeah.
00:05:07
Speaker
And it was super nice.
00:05:09
Speaker
I mean, Steve Beattie was there.
00:05:10
Speaker
It's at his house.
00:05:13
Speaker
And Dwight Sullivan was there.
00:05:14
Speaker
Jerry Thompson was there.
00:05:17
Speaker
And there were a lot of other people, Bill Webb, Amanda Hamilton.
00:05:20
Speaker
So all these people showed up.
00:05:23
Speaker
Eric was there.
00:05:25
Speaker
And I'm trying to go through and figure out.
00:05:30
Speaker
Oh, and Keith Johnson was there.
00:05:34
Speaker
So it was a big deal.
00:05:37
Speaker
They streamed for about two and a half hours.
00:05:39
Speaker
I think I hopped on for like 45 minutes.
00:05:42
Speaker
Okay.
00:05:43
Speaker
But Scott Denisi was there too.
00:05:47
Speaker
So yeah, it was fun and it was nice in the garage.
00:05:51
Speaker
Outside it was a little cold, but it was still super nice of them to host that.
00:05:56
Speaker
Yeah.
00:05:57
Speaker
I've also realized that everything is 45 minutes away in Chicago for some reason.
00:06:01
Speaker
Yeah, for some odd reason where the convention center is located, it's just... Everything's 45 minutes away.
00:06:06
Speaker
Yeah.
00:06:08
Speaker
Um, Thursday.
00:06:09
Speaker
So we finally get to, everyone goes to bed, wake up Thursday.
00:06:13
Speaker
I had a hard time sleeping, so I can't, I think I was up by like six that morning, which is like five hour time.
00:06:19
Speaker
I was ready to go.
00:06:20
Speaker
I was, I think everything, everything had been accumulating for the last six months to this Thursday.
00:06:26
Speaker
Right.
00:06:26
Speaker
Yeah.
00:06:27
Speaker
So I finally get up, we get everything put into place.
00:06:31
Speaker
Uh, yeah.
00:06:32
Speaker
And we finally flipped the switch at what, a little bit before 10?
00:06:37
Speaker
Yeah, we had like a countdown for like 10 minutes and then we started about 10, 10 or something like that.
00:06:42
Speaker
And you and I started off with, well, you started, we started with,
00:06:51
Speaker
Justin Benson.
00:06:52
Speaker
Justin, yeah.
00:06:53
Speaker
From Learning Solutions.
00:06:54
Speaker
Yeah, and he's the one who introduced basically Learning Solutions and how it's a new company that they're trying to establish, but they have a big waiting list of all these people who are trying to get into the system.
00:07:08
Speaker
But as we've talked about multiple times, there's a hump to get started.
00:07:14
Speaker
Yeah.
00:07:14
Speaker
And so that was the driving force of doing the fundraiser was to help these families get over that hump.
00:07:21
Speaker
Yep.
00:07:23
Speaker
Then you and I did an interview with Steve Bowden.
00:07:28
Speaker
Yep.
00:07:28
Speaker
And played Deadpool.
00:07:30
Speaker
Before we did that, though, Drew and Rachel was on.
00:07:33
Speaker
Oh, okay.
00:07:33
Speaker
That's right.
00:07:34
Speaker
You're right.
00:07:34
Speaker
Josh Sharp.
00:07:36
Speaker
And the cool part about these interviews is a lot of them was not like a typical pinball interview.
00:07:41
Speaker
No, no.
00:07:42
Speaker
It was a very casual conversation, which was really nice.
00:07:44
Speaker
We saw elements of other people.
00:07:47
Speaker
people that we've heard from, but able to take, get a different take from them.
00:07:54
Speaker
Yep.
00:07:54
Speaker
So like with Rachel and Josh, they did talk some IFPA because you got the president on why not, you know, but then we talked about Steve Bowden and I heard from Dennis Cresla was kind of refreshing to hear us talk about the pinball dictionary.
00:08:07
Speaker
Yeah, that was fun.
00:08:10
Speaker
Steve, Steve's hilarious and he has a, he has a lot of great terms that he has coined over the years or incorporated.
00:08:16
Speaker
I was laughing at the chemical warfare and the biological warfare.
00:08:19
Speaker
Yeah, the biological warfare and the chemical warfare.
00:08:21
Speaker
Yeah, those were pretty awesome.
00:08:24
Speaker
So that was great.
00:08:26
Speaker
After us, it was Amanda and Keith Elwin.
00:08:30
Speaker
Yes.
00:08:31
Speaker
And they had a blast.
00:08:32
Speaker
I heard there was some interesting tidbits out about, I think he said something about his next cornerstone.
00:08:40
Speaker
And then also a little bit of information on Bond 60th.
00:08:43
Speaker
You're going to have to go back and watch it if you

Convention Challenges: Costs and Security

00:08:45
Speaker
missed it.
00:08:45
Speaker
So, yeah, I actually, I was trying to just listen simultaneously because I, I, I had to hook in via like the stream, like everybody else.
00:08:56
Speaker
But as we mentioned before, Josh was, uh, Josh was streaming up from his hotspot.
00:09:03
Speaker
And so that it was, it was a little bit hit and miss just because, uh,
00:09:07
Speaker
I still don't understand why these big conventions have such crappy access to internet.
00:09:12
Speaker
Oh, no, it's not.
00:09:13
Speaker
Okay.
00:09:13
Speaker
Let's talk about this really quick because it's been mentioned on other podcasts.
00:09:17
Speaker
Okay.
00:09:17
Speaker
And there's a lot of confusion going on.
00:09:19
Speaker
Okay.
00:09:19
Speaker
With like electricity and stuff like that.
00:09:20
Speaker
Okay.
00:09:21
Speaker
I can't speak to electricity.
00:09:22
Speaker
I'm still thrown for a loop that it was an extra like 300 bucks on top of your booth.
00:09:26
Speaker
Right.
00:09:27
Speaker
As far as the internet goes.
00:09:30
Speaker
So the convention center itself is like we're a convention center.
00:09:33
Speaker
You can rent our open warehouse essentially.
00:09:35
Speaker
Right.
00:09:36
Speaker
But if you want internet, you must go through the third-party company that runs internet for us.
00:09:42
Speaker
They don't actually provide internet because of where they're at.
00:09:46
Speaker
But it's a contract.
00:09:48
Speaker
They have contracted with someone to provide internet should we want it.
00:09:52
Speaker
Yes, and it almost sounds union.
00:09:54
Speaker
It's kind of weird.
00:09:56
Speaker
Almost.
00:09:57
Speaker
The prices definitely suggest union.
00:09:59
Speaker
Yes.
00:09:59
Speaker
So...
00:10:01
Speaker
Get this.
00:10:02
Speaker
I know that we've talked about this offline, but I'm just going to talk about this now because if you call the convention center, they're going to tell you this.
00:10:10
Speaker
So this is not private knowledge.
00:10:12
Speaker
This is not a dirty laundry situation.
00:10:15
Speaker
This is actually part of the fee schedule for renting a booth.
00:10:19
Speaker
Yes.
00:10:20
Speaker
This is the challenge, by the way, of any convention.
00:10:23
Speaker
They're going to find ways of raising money and making the event pay for itself and possibly make some money.
00:10:33
Speaker
So this is not bad.
00:10:36
Speaker
Possibly make some money?
00:10:37
Speaker
Okay.
00:10:38
Speaker
I called them four months before because George Fisher and I were talking like, what are we going to do about the event?
00:10:44
Speaker
the internet situation he's like i heard rumors about the price and i said i'll just give him a call i'll just flat out tell him who we are i call up the convention center and i say okay we're doing a charity event right what is our price on this because i'm not gonna lie people are very generous towards charities yeah and i would say we've been
00:11:04
Speaker
we have tried our best to make this as simple and transparent as possible.
00:11:11
Speaker
Yes.
00:11:12
Speaker
Like we, we made sure that the finances were, were directly going to learning solutions.
00:11:19
Speaker
We weren't benefiting in any way.
00:11:21
Speaker
In fact, we donated some stuff along with a lot of people.
00:11:24
Speaker
Yeah.
00:11:25
Speaker
And so, yes, we, we,
00:11:28
Speaker
It was a very clean fundraiser.
00:11:31
Speaker
Yeah.
00:11:32
Speaker
So they said for us, it'd be $2,500 for internet for the day.
00:11:38
Speaker
And I said, but we're a charity.
00:11:40
Speaker
And they said, that's our charity.
00:11:43
Speaker
That's our charity rate.
00:11:44
Speaker
Yes.
00:11:44
Speaker
If you were not a charity, it would be $2,800 for five megabits upload.
00:11:52
Speaker
For those that don't understand this, five megabits is nothing.
00:11:57
Speaker
You can't run a stream off of five megabits.
00:12:00
Speaker
You can't even download like an app off that.
00:12:03
Speaker
It's so bad.
00:12:04
Speaker
We were talking about we were lucky to be running the, not lucky, but we're doing pretty good with the stream at 20 megabits.
00:12:11
Speaker
And the only reason we had a snafu for a second is because for some odd reason, George Fisher's computer was hooked up to my phone.
00:12:17
Speaker
I know everyone wants to know this, but it was hooked up to my hotspot.
00:12:22
Speaker
And we were doing like 20, 25 output and like 20 upload.
00:12:26
Speaker
And all of a sudden the stream crashed.
00:12:29
Speaker
And then we couldn't figure out why it crashed.
00:12:31
Speaker
But we restarted the stream and it was perfectly fine.
00:12:33
Speaker
So we're just like, oh, that's weird.
00:12:34
Speaker
We'll just chalk it up to like solar flare or something, right?
00:12:37
Speaker
Sure.
00:12:38
Speaker
And then it wasn't until a couple hours later that I went to get out on my phone.
00:12:41
Speaker
I hadn't been touching my phone because I thought it's a hotspot.
00:12:43
Speaker
I don't want to be moving it.
00:12:45
Speaker
Usually if I pick it up, it comes with me, right?
00:12:47
Speaker
Yeah.
00:12:47
Speaker
So a couple hours later just to check my phone and messages and stuff, I pick it up.
00:12:52
Speaker
And I'm like, hotspot turned off due to inactivity.
00:12:55
Speaker
I look at George, George, is the stream still going?
00:12:58
Speaker
And he's like, yeah, why?
00:13:00
Speaker
And I'm like, dude, my hotspot's off.
00:13:03
Speaker
What are you running off of?
00:13:04
Speaker
And we like panicked really quick.
00:13:06
Speaker
Like, well, it shows it's still running.
00:13:07
Speaker
What's it running off of?
00:13:08
Speaker
Somehow it is like reverted from my phone back to George's phone.
00:13:12
Speaker
Oh, okay.
00:13:13
Speaker
So that's what happened.
00:13:14
Speaker
That was the only drop we had.
00:13:16
Speaker
And that was like the first 30 minutes of the stream somewhere on there, right?
00:13:19
Speaker
Yeah.
00:13:20
Speaker
Anywho.
00:13:20
Speaker
So, yeah, I don't know.
00:13:23
Speaker
I will put this in perspective, too.
00:13:25
Speaker
I went to Great Wolf Lodge last week with my family.
00:13:28
Speaker
Okay.
00:13:29
Speaker
It was the, hey, you let me go to Expo.
00:13:31
Speaker
We're going to celebrate as a family doing our own thing.
00:13:34
Speaker
Yeah.
00:13:34
Speaker
Okay.
00:13:35
Speaker
And the guest internet that was totally free at Great Wolf Lodge, guess how much the download speed was?
00:13:43
Speaker
121.45.
00:13:47
Speaker
And the upload speed was 205.
00:13:49
Speaker
Holy crap.
00:13:52
Speaker
So only imagine super fast.
00:13:55
Speaker
So, okay.
00:13:56
Speaker
If there's one, one thing that I thought was kind of ridiculous was the, the internet situation there.
00:14:04
Speaker
Yeah.
00:14:06
Speaker
Now that being said, the like the convention was very supportive and
00:14:13
Speaker
of our stream and they were very supportive of like helping us out with the charity.
00:14:17
Speaker
Yeah.
00:14:18
Speaker
And so this is not on them.
00:14:20
Speaker
This is, this is more of a,
00:14:23
Speaker
a Schaumburg Marriott situation.
00:14:26
Speaker
Yeah.
00:14:27
Speaker
That that's probably just what they have to do.
00:14:30
Speaker
And at some point they have to fix that because that is, that's not, I mean, seriously, are we going to do like a, a fax machine stream next time?
00:14:40
Speaker
I guess.
00:14:40
Speaker
I mean, it's like 19 AOL.
00:14:41
Speaker
It's like 1995.
00:14:41
Speaker
Yeah.
00:14:44
Speaker
Well, and the whole thing's goofy too.
00:14:46
Speaker
So let's start and talk about security because โ€“ Okay.
00:14:50
Speaker
So we're going to air grievances first and then we'll talk about the positivity.
00:14:54
Speaker
Okay.
00:14:55
Speaker
Let's do that.
00:14:55
Speaker
Let's do that.
00:14:56
Speaker
I don't want to say it's necessarily grievances because we โ€“ Situations.
00:15:00
Speaker
Three weeks before flipping the script on autism โ€“
00:15:03
Speaker
we had like a sudden, we should switch this all to online.
00:15:07
Speaker
Right.
00:15:07
Speaker
We had, I'm not saying like we knew someone was going to steal from us, but it kind of hit me like three weeks before.
00:15:13
Speaker
What happens if we do get hit?
00:15:14
Speaker
We have all these things here.
00:15:16
Speaker
Yeah.
00:15:16
Speaker
Yes.
00:15:17
Speaker
We have some pretty nice items that a lot of people want.
00:15:21
Speaker
And I would hate for us to auction these off and then them disappear.
00:15:24
Speaker
Yep.
00:15:25
Speaker
And,
00:15:26
Speaker
when I explained it all to the sponsors that way, they were totally fine with it.
00:15:30
Speaker
And so a lot of them didn't bring the items except for the two play fields.
00:15:35
Speaker
And then we had, you know, we had the banner, we had the t-shirt, we had the speaker light kit, the stuff that like people had donated that necessarily wasn't a manufacturer.
00:15:47
Speaker
Like we had the Franchi Plexiglas as well.
00:15:50
Speaker
Sorry, I'm going totally off into left field at the moment.
00:15:54
Speaker
So when I talked to, because our concern was security, we called up the security at the hotel and said, okay, what do you guys provide?
00:16:00
Speaker
We're just trying to figure out what we need to do.
00:16:02
Speaker
And they're like, oh, we don't provide security.
00:16:05
Speaker
And I was like, but you're a convention center.
00:16:08
Speaker
And they're like, well, we provide security for the hotel inside the convention centers up to the person hosting the event.
00:16:16
Speaker
So all those people, as soon as you go through the front door, was Pinball Expo.
00:16:22
Speaker
And then it gets more interesting because like they patrol the hotel security patrols the grounds.
00:16:30
Speaker
But it's like as soon as you go through those double doors or whatever you want to call it's like you're entering the matrix.
00:16:35
Speaker
Yeah, it's like this box within a box that they have no control over.
00:16:40
Speaker
But they were really good about checking your wristbands to make sure you weren't going in.
00:16:45
Speaker
Yeah.
00:16:46
Speaker
But nothing else.
00:16:48
Speaker
It was so goofy.
00:16:49
Speaker
And what gets even goofier is after... So for those that didn't see the Facebook post...
00:16:55
Speaker
We were packing up.
00:16:56
Speaker
It's Sunday night.
00:16:58
Speaker
Sorry, it's Saturday night around 1130.
00:17:01
Speaker
People are just playing pinball machines.
00:17:02
Speaker
They're not checking out booths.
00:17:04
Speaker
They don't care.
00:17:07
Speaker
Most booths were closing up because they basically had to...
00:17:13
Speaker
get out um sunday morning like asap and so most most of the booths just tore down saturday night but people that have major booths like cgc stern those ones yeah yeah those that had to bring in a trailer like a truck a semi-trailer they actually didn't tear it out to the sunday because they need everyone else's booths all the way so they could pull the trailer actually into the convention center right so there's a lot of chaos it's it's tearing down and running it out the back door and
00:17:42
Speaker
And I, Brian Cosner, who was very nice to donate some items comes over and he's like, have you seen the Hot Wheels banner signed by Joe Balser, this t-shirt and a speaker light kit, plus his hat and sunglasses.
00:17:55
Speaker
He'd made a pile because I was trying to get all the items back to the people.
00:18:00
Speaker
In the time that I picked up the Franchi Jaws plexiglass from our booth and took it to Franchi,
00:18:07
Speaker
And we talked for maybe 10 minutes, 15 minutes, because he was packing up and trying to get out as well.
00:18:12
Speaker
And came back.
00:18:13
Speaker
That stuff was taken.
00:18:15
Speaker
Yeah.
00:18:16
Speaker
It was almost like someone was waiting.
00:18:18
Speaker
And luckily during all that too, I'd moved the play fields back behind.
00:18:22
Speaker
I think they were looking for stuff that they could disguise as their own stuff.
00:18:27
Speaker
Yes.
00:18:27
Speaker
It's pretty hard to walk out with a play field, but a box, a non-descript box.
00:18:31
Speaker
A one-of-a-kind black and white Attack for Mars play field and a Jersey Jack test play field that was only like four or five of them made.
00:18:37
Speaker
Right.
00:18:38
Speaker
Yeah, it's kind of hard to hide those.
00:18:39
Speaker
So cause is like, I can't find this stuff.
00:18:42
Speaker
He'd made a pile.
00:18:43
Speaker
He looked, I looked, you looked.
00:18:46
Speaker
Yeah.
00:18:47
Speaker
We did everything.
00:18:49
Speaker
Our first thought was, is like, well, it must've got packed up.
00:18:51
Speaker
Right.
00:18:52
Speaker
Seriously.
00:18:52
Speaker
We have six, seven people just in the flipping out booth taking stuff back and forth to the dock.
00:18:57
Speaker
Right.
00:18:58
Speaker
So we didn't even think we got hit.
00:19:00
Speaker
It was just like, Oh, of course with small, like a t-shirt really.
00:19:04
Speaker
Anyhow.
00:19:05
Speaker
Yeah, it was really weird.
00:19:07
Speaker
So I'm talking to security after the fact, right?
00:19:10
Speaker
Because Brian Allen had talked to us because he got hit pretty hard.
00:19:14
Speaker
Yeah, he got $2,500 worth of his art stolen.
00:19:19
Speaker
Yes.
00:19:20
Speaker
Come to find out there's not security cameras in the convention center.
00:19:23
Speaker
No.
00:19:24
Speaker
They're at the doors.
00:19:25
Speaker
Yeah.
00:19:26
Speaker
So they can look at the doors, but they can't look inside the convention center at anyone's booths.
00:19:31
Speaker
Again, a total failure on their part.
00:19:33
Speaker
Like, unless they are trying to disavow themselves from anything that they, but I'm sorry, in today's day and age, having a security system that has like cameras everywhere in a big convention center, that should be a requirement.
00:19:49
Speaker
It should be.
00:19:50
Speaker
Yeah.
00:19:51
Speaker
So I'm kind of to the point where it's like this convention is ridiculous in my opinion because it's essentially have your event here, but we're not going to do anything for you besides have mace and heating and air conditioning in this space.
00:20:03
Speaker
And that's about it.
00:20:05
Speaker
Well, I think that they โ€“ I would say the location probably needs to step up their โ€“
00:20:11
Speaker
like what they're doing, but maybe that's, I would say expo was much better this year than last year, but maybe that's something that expo needs to address themselves.
00:20:21
Speaker
Yes.
00:20:21
Speaker
So either we are hiring people, but at the minimum, I'm sorry, as a convention center, you should have closed circuit TV.
00:20:29
Speaker
So here, here's my opinion on this because all of us got hit at the same time.
00:20:35
Speaker
We got hit in that, uh,
00:20:37
Speaker
everyone's packing up people aren't noticing because things are going out the door i think you shut down expo at midnight step two in the morning right because there was no reason to keep it past midnight in my opinion yeah we went back at one and there was barely anyone in there playing you know there were some people on machines it still is what it is but shut it down at midnight and then at midnight push the whole public out that's when people can start packing up
00:21:02
Speaker
Now, you're also making assumptions that it was โ€“ we have no idea who the Sticky Fingers person was.
00:21:09
Speaker
True.
00:21:09
Speaker
But it was obviously a planned hit.
00:21:11
Speaker
Yes.
00:21:12
Speaker
It was planned.
00:21:13
Speaker
I feel like someone had been scoping out Expo all weekend long and then they struck when they knew they could strike.
00:21:19
Speaker
Yes.
00:21:21
Speaker
So, so this was planned.
00:21:22
Speaker
So that means that they, this has happened before at, at expos, um, any conventions, but that says that what was done this time needs to be changed.
00:21:32
Speaker
Yep.
00:21:33
Speaker
So that's, I, there's probably other ways you can improve upon it.
00:21:36
Speaker
That was just my top off the top of my head.
00:21:38
Speaker
I think that's some way that you could help prevent.
00:21:41
Speaker
And then there's, you know, it's kind of on you at that point of like, have someone in your booth while you're cleaning up.
00:21:46
Speaker
Anyhow.
00:21:47
Speaker
Yeah.
00:21:47
Speaker
Or at least, you know, maybe have an awareness.
00:21:50
Speaker
Hey, we don't have active security.
00:21:54
Speaker
And so you should have someone on stand, you know, on standby to make sure that your stuff's not messed with.
00:22:01
Speaker
Like, there should be some sort of disclaimer.
00:22:04
Speaker
But I think the thing is, is there isn't active security at most of these conventions.
00:22:07
Speaker
There's seriously enough security to check your wristbands and make sure you're not sneaking in the back exit.
00:22:12
Speaker
There really isn't much from stealing.
00:22:14
Speaker
And these conventions are open.
00:22:16
Speaker
These booths, you can attack from all sides.
00:22:19
Speaker
Yeah.
00:22:19
Speaker
And the booths, they're just, they're cardboard tables.
00:22:23
Speaker
Yeah.
00:22:23
Speaker
Card tables, excuse me, not cardboard.
00:22:25
Speaker
Card tables that have...
00:22:27
Speaker
a drape a tablecloth that's covering all these assets see and like the only difference i can think of with like texas pinball festival and this is they do offer the curtain that can go around your booth yeah they don't offer that here at expo yeah but that would have been ten thousand dollars anyway yeah exactly it's union so okay let's get back to flipping the script okay okay so we'll talk about the stolen items later
00:22:53
Speaker
Well, I think we just

Charity Event Success and Community Support

00:22:55
Speaker
covered it.
00:22:55
Speaker
I don't want to dwell too much on a negative thing because the whole experience, the flip in the script was such a positive experience.
00:23:03
Speaker
And thankfully, we contacted the people who supplied the stuff that was stolen and they said they would make it up.
00:23:12
Speaker
Actually, it wasn't the people that supply it.
00:23:14
Speaker
This is why I'm so impressed with American Stern and with Pinshades.
00:23:19
Speaker
So when we found out about the stolen items, they were all donated by Brian Cosner, which is, it was his own personal collection.
00:23:28
Speaker
Right.
00:23:28
Speaker
It's not like he can replace them.
00:23:30
Speaker
Right.
00:23:31
Speaker
I called up American, or I ran a day fix.
00:23:32
Speaker
I told him the situation.
00:23:33
Speaker
He's like, don't worry about it.
00:23:34
Speaker
We'll cover it.
00:23:35
Speaker
I ran to Zach Sharp and he's like, don't worry about it.
00:23:37
Speaker
We'll cover it.
00:23:38
Speaker
And then the speaker light kit, there wasn't a sponsor for that.
00:23:44
Speaker
But Jockton stepped up and he said, I'll take care of it.
00:23:46
Speaker
Don't worry about it.
00:23:47
Speaker
So I was flat out impressed.
00:23:50
Speaker
It's not even their deal.
00:23:52
Speaker
And they're like, no, just don't worry about it.
00:23:53
Speaker
Yeah.
00:23:54
Speaker
And that was super nice because we certainly would have felt obligated to find.
00:23:59
Speaker
Well, we did feel obligated to make sure that things were taken care of and people were made whole.
00:24:05
Speaker
So that was a big solid.
00:24:08
Speaker
So the rest of the script, so we had, let's see, where... After that, so it was Eric Meniere and Craig Bobby, and this is Craig Bobby's first time.
00:24:16
Speaker
Killed it, man.
00:24:17
Speaker
Yeah.
00:24:18
Speaker
Besides him doing the spots on Pinball Show for your five-minute update, it was great.
00:24:24
Speaker
Everyone loved it.
00:24:26
Speaker
After that, it was Roger Sharp and Jen Rupert from No Coin Drop Required.
00:24:32
Speaker
Also, she was there helping with the tournament.
00:24:35
Speaker
Amazing conversation.
00:24:36
Speaker
It was really cool to see a different side of Roger on that point because Roger always gets asked the same question, right?
00:24:41
Speaker
Of course.
00:24:42
Speaker
Yeah.
00:24:42
Speaker
Or questions.
00:24:43
Speaker
And he's pretty good at answering them.
00:24:46
Speaker
Yes.
00:24:47
Speaker
Yes, he is.
00:24:48
Speaker
Plus or minus 45 minutes.
00:24:51
Speaker
And then after them, uh, Roger and Mark Silk or not Roger, sorry, Zach, many and Mark Silk.
00:24:58
Speaker
Yep.
00:24:59
Speaker
And that was fantastic as well.
00:25:01
Speaker
And during all that, sorry, between the, the, uh, Craig Bobby and the, um, Roger Sharp with Jen, Mark Silk and I did a seminar.
00:25:11
Speaker
Yep.
00:25:12
Speaker
And you were there for that.
00:25:13
Speaker
Yeah, I was up there.
00:25:15
Speaker
I was surprised actually the numbers in that seminar, there was about 30, 40, which is actually pretty good for a seminar on a Thursday afternoon.
00:25:21
Speaker
Yeah, it's well, this was the challenge.
00:25:24
Speaker
They did a lot of really good things at this expo.
00:25:28
Speaker
OK, one thing that really should be fixed is they didn't have a giant banner that had when all the seminars were.
00:25:38
Speaker
Yeah, they basically had a QR code.
00:25:40
Speaker
On your pass, which every other conventions I've gone to have been like you flip it over and it's, oh, so-and-so speaking right now.
00:25:50
Speaker
And it was a little bit of a walk.
00:25:51
Speaker
I mean, it was upstairs, so it wasn't terrible, but it didn't feel like they were funneling people to the seminars.
00:25:58
Speaker
Yeah.
00:26:00
Speaker
So I would say that was a, that was the downside too.
00:26:04
Speaker
And the seminars were free this year.
00:26:05
Speaker
So you had no excuse to not go.
00:26:07
Speaker
Yeah.
00:26:08
Speaker
And that was a huge bonus of, well, that was a better organizational decision, I guess.
00:26:14
Speaker
So I'll put it that way.
00:26:15
Speaker
But I'll put it this way too.
00:26:16
Speaker
I think seminars don't get as much love as they should.
00:26:20
Speaker
at pinball conventions it was the same thing with texas pinball festival and what's scary is it's it's funny because everyone's you know i hear a lot of people like well texas is the ultimate and i agree like texas was it's quite a party it's it's like almost like a family reunion for pinball people right yeah and i agree with zach manny that this expo felt like texas light it felt like the fun of texas not as packed so you could get on pinball machines quicker but
00:26:45
Speaker
Just at Texas, as you do have an expo, the X, the seminars are for some odd reason off in the back corner.
00:26:52
Speaker
They have a terrible sound system for both.
00:26:55
Speaker
Well, and they should also have like an announcement over the, like, Hey, in the seminar room now is Mark Silk, you know, you know, so you should have some sort of way of cluing people in, Hey, there's, there's something going on.
00:27:10
Speaker
Yeah.
00:27:11
Speaker
But like,
00:27:13
Speaker
Maybe it's just me because I'm a sound guy and I do sound for a living.
00:27:17
Speaker
Well, as a side gig, side hustle.
00:27:19
Speaker
But if your sound is clipping out, this was Texas and this is Pinball Expo, either get a better guy to run your mixer or get more powerful equipment.
00:27:29
Speaker
It was clipping out during the Twippies.
00:27:32
Speaker
It was clipping out during Mark and my seminar.
00:27:35
Speaker
And it's hard.
00:27:36
Speaker
It's hard to convey to an audience what you're trying to say when half of what you're being said cuts out.
00:27:41
Speaker
Right.
00:27:43
Speaker
And like, I get you don't want to pay a professional sound guy.
00:27:46
Speaker
Uh, and maybe the people running the sound are professional.
00:27:50
Speaker
I don't know, but there's obviously some disconnect of the quality of sound equipment versus what's going on in the seminar.
00:27:56
Speaker
I'm not going to say what their qualifications were.
00:28:00
Speaker
However, I will say there is room for improvement.
00:28:04
Speaker
Well, it was Martin from pinball news.
00:28:06
Speaker
What is his qualification?
00:28:09
Speaker
I don't know.
00:28:10
Speaker
So, and I'm not volunteering me.
00:28:12
Speaker
Trust me.
00:28:13
Speaker
I'm not volunteering me.
00:28:14
Speaker
Right.
00:28:15
Speaker
But there needs to be some better sound.
00:28:16
Speaker
Dude, get some JBLs, some 12, you know, 12 eons.
00:28:21
Speaker
Rob, trust me.
00:28:22
Speaker
That's in your budget.
00:28:24
Speaker
You buy them yourself.
00:28:25
Speaker
I know that the convention, you know, probably provided these.
00:28:29
Speaker
There's a reason people don't want to use them.
00:28:31
Speaker
Yeah.
00:28:32
Speaker
I just, anywho.
00:28:34
Speaker
Sorry.
00:28:35
Speaker
Okay.
00:28:35
Speaker
So, okay.
00:28:37
Speaker
So that, yeah, we're, let's wrap up at least flipping the script.
00:28:42
Speaker
All right.
00:28:43
Speaker
We keep deviating.
00:28:44
Speaker
So flipping the script, we finished off again with learning solutions and we ended up raising,
00:28:54
Speaker
How much money, Josh?
00:28:55
Speaker
Okay.
00:28:55
Speaker
So our goal was $25,000.
00:28:57
Speaker
Right.
00:28:58
Speaker
Which, by the way, I thought was a pretty aggressive goal.
00:29:01
Speaker
I thought we are a small charity.
00:29:03
Speaker
Like we're a small charity stream.
00:29:05
Speaker
I had no idea what we would actually get.
00:29:09
Speaker
Well, and originally our goal was $15,000, right?
00:29:13
Speaker
We'd all kind of agreed maybe that's a pretty conservative goal.
00:29:17
Speaker
Well, not even conservative.
00:29:17
Speaker
We felt that was a stretch.
00:29:19
Speaker
Right.
00:29:19
Speaker
But we'd all agreed that was probably a decent number to go after, right?
00:29:23
Speaker
Yeah.
00:29:24
Speaker
And then when I talked to Sarah Foster at Learning Solutions, she said, if we could do $25,000 and get it, we could pay for 31 families to get over that hump and get their diagnosis.
00:29:34
Speaker
It was a no-brainer for us.
00:29:35
Speaker
Yeah, so, hey, shoot for it.
00:29:37
Speaker
Yeah, let's shoot for it.
00:29:38
Speaker
Because that was a goal.
00:29:40
Speaker
That puts faces, well, at least it puts a number, 31 families who need help.
00:29:45
Speaker
Yeah.
00:29:46
Speaker
When we started flipping the script on Thursday, because we opened up the auction early, we were already setting about $8,300.
00:29:52
Speaker
That was between donations and items that had already been bid on.
00:29:56
Speaker
By the end of the stream, we โ€“ well, if you're watching the stream, Scott, I, and Justin all got pretty emotional.
00:30:06
Speaker
We had an angel donor come in at the very end and pledge to make up the difference of what we didn't make for our goal.
00:30:14
Speaker
Yeah, but how much do we make?
00:30:16
Speaker
I'm still impressed by how much we made.
00:30:20
Speaker
Both things impressed me, by the way.
00:30:22
Speaker
How much do we make by selling the charity auction items?
00:30:26
Speaker
Okay, so...
00:30:28
Speaker
For the charity auction, do you want me to break this all down in an auction?
00:30:32
Speaker
Just rough things.
00:30:34
Speaker
Okay.
00:30:34
Speaker
It wasn't about $18,000.
00:30:36
Speaker
So auction items alone were about $14,000.
00:30:38
Speaker
Okay.
00:30:39
Speaker
All right.
00:30:41
Speaker
Straight donations was about $2,000.
00:30:42
Speaker
Okay.
00:30:44
Speaker
The angel donor was $10,500.
00:30:46
Speaker
Mm-hmm.
00:30:48
Speaker
And then we had another person come in during our stream in Vernal, so where Learning Solutions is based out of, and drop off a $1,000 check.
00:30:57
Speaker
Yeah.
00:31:00
Speaker
which then brought us to $26,989.22.
00:31:02
Speaker
That is the final takeaway from everything.
00:31:08
Speaker
Right.
00:31:08
Speaker
And so that's amazing to me.
00:31:11
Speaker
That is amazing.
00:31:12
Speaker
I just, I'm shocked.
00:31:15
Speaker
I was worried about the 22 cents, but I guess that there's some transaction fees that came off.
00:31:19
Speaker
It's fine.
00:31:20
Speaker
Which is funny because a week later I get a notification from 32 auctions like, by the way, now winners can actually pay for the transaction fees instead of coming out of your charity.
00:31:28
Speaker
I'm like,
00:31:29
Speaker
a week later, whatever, but we hit our goal.
00:31:31
Speaker
We did.
00:31:32
Speaker
And it was a, I, I'm not, I'm not looking at the downside.
00:31:36
Speaker
There's everything's upside on this.
00:31:38
Speaker
I just thought it was funny.
00:31:39
Speaker
I thought it was really funny, but, um, yeah, I mean, 26,900, essentially $27,000, right.
00:31:45
Speaker
We're, we're off by the 11 bucks.
00:31:46
Speaker
But still that that's, that's easily twice to three times what I thought we'd make.
00:31:52
Speaker
yeah well and it was funny you know ken cromwell came over and congratulated us from jjp they'd originally done their first the 24 hour right you know three years earlier and he's like 25,012 hours and he's like man that's that's amazing i'm like come on ken you did 50 and in 24 hours but he's like we didn't do 25 and a half you know half the time though yeah uh it just it blew my mind um
00:32:19
Speaker
it's funny though, like we were already discussing and you'll probably hear on prim ball profile as soon as Jeff releases it, but it's like, seriously, the next day people are asking, so you ready to do the next one?
00:32:28
Speaker
You ready to do another script?
00:32:29
Speaker
Yeah.
00:32:30
Speaker
And I will say that I love doing it and I, I give all the credit to Josh.
00:32:36
Speaker
Josh was the, the founder of this and he's the one who spearheaded it.
00:32:41
Speaker
I, I helped out in any way he needed, but I will give all the,
00:32:46
Speaker
all the founding credit to Josh and all the other people who were involved in the umbrella that came together that was flipping the script.
00:32:54
Speaker
Yeah.
00:32:54
Speaker
I could have not done it without, uh, well, George, George Fisher for George.
00:32:59
Speaker
Um, amazing, uh, amazing player.
00:33:04
Speaker
He's the dope panic flip.
00:33:06
Speaker
His setup was amazing.
00:33:08
Speaker
His professionalism was amazing.
00:33:10
Speaker
His involvement was like everything that George brought.
00:33:13
Speaker
I thought this is, uh, you are a saint for doing this.
00:33:18
Speaker
I never saw it.
00:33:19
Speaker
anything on his face but a smile the whole weekend.
00:33:22
Speaker
And I was just like, dude, like... Yeah, he's a nice, positive guy.
00:33:26
Speaker
Yes, he really is.
00:33:28
Speaker
I could learn more from George.
00:33:29
Speaker
Like, he's a great dude.
00:33:30
Speaker
But...
00:33:33
Speaker
My wife made a perfect analogy about people asking us and I even 24 hours after we were finished with it, if we were going to do it again.
00:33:41
Speaker
She's like, that's like asking the mother that just gave birth that she's ready to have another child.
00:33:46
Speaker
You ready to saddle up again?
00:33:47
Speaker
Yeah.
00:33:47
Speaker
Yeah.
00:33:48
Speaker
You ready to do that?
00:33:49
Speaker
I will say it was such a great experience.
00:33:51
Speaker
We're definitely taking time to recover from it.
00:33:55
Speaker
I'm not even done shipping items out.
00:33:57
Speaker
Yeah, I haven't either.
00:33:59
Speaker
In fairness, my house is totally torn up because we are doing renovations right now.
00:34:04
Speaker
And I have my box of one of the people who bought one of the loser kid hats.
00:34:10
Speaker
So I'm shipping them out a box and I have some swag in there.
00:34:13
Speaker
I had a shirt that I'm sending them out.
00:34:14
Speaker
And so, you know, there's a box that's waiting to go out.
00:34:18
Speaker
But I have been nonstop for the last week.
00:34:21
Speaker
I haven't been able to go to UPS.
00:34:24
Speaker
Well, I'll tell the audience what I've been telling other people.
00:34:27
Speaker
I'm not opposed to doing another flipping the script.
00:34:30
Speaker
Right.
00:34:31
Speaker
Yes.
00:34:32
Speaker
I'm open to it.
00:34:33
Speaker
I'm open to consider it.
00:34:35
Speaker
We don't want to plan anything right now.
00:34:37
Speaker
Well, and here's the thing.
00:34:38
Speaker
There were so many people involved, and I felt like I used a lot of my favors, quote unquote.
00:34:43
Speaker
Yes.
00:34:44
Speaker
Uh-huh.
00:34:45
Speaker
I need to build those back up.
00:34:46
Speaker
I feel like if I'm going to do this ever again.
00:34:48
Speaker
Sure.
00:34:49
Speaker
And to be fair, and we've talked about all the, I mean, go look at the stream.
00:34:53
Speaker
We talked about all the, the major players who helped out, including pinball expo for what they were able to do.
00:35:01
Speaker
Stern, JJP, American pinball, pin shape, like flipping out the TPN, all these things came together.
00:35:10
Speaker
And so I know I'm missing some, I'm just trying to spit ball a little bit.
00:35:15
Speaker
But yeah, I would like to let things cool down a little bit and then we'll start figuring things out when it starts coming up for next year.
00:35:26
Speaker
Yeah, I'm definitely not making any promises right now though.
00:35:29
Speaker
But it was definitely worth it.
00:35:30
Speaker
It was amazing.
00:35:32
Speaker
We'll keep updating you guys as this goes along.
00:35:35
Speaker
But it's just been fantastic.
00:35:38
Speaker
It went further than my wildest dreams.
00:35:44
Speaker
And it's been amazing.
00:35:45
Speaker
So thank you to those that helped support all the way around.
00:35:49
Speaker
Yeah.
00:35:49
Speaker
And you can go and look at the replay if you want to catch up on those interviews.
00:35:53
Speaker
Yes.
00:35:54
Speaker
So flipping the script was done around 10.
00:35:56
Speaker
That still gave us a couple hours left with the expo, but I think we were kind of doing some running around at that point.
00:36:01
Speaker
I was pretty exhausted.
00:36:03
Speaker
Yeah, me too.
00:36:03
Speaker
I went to bed Friday.
00:36:06
Speaker
So my Friday was I woke up and I woke up before Carly and Danette, which is my mother-in-law, and I went down to the convention floor and
00:36:18
Speaker
And just kind of peruse the floor.

Exploring Chicago and Pinball Reviews

00:36:20
Speaker
The nice part about being a vendor is you can get in before hours.
00:36:23
Speaker
And you can kind of get on some of the games before they're playing to the public.
00:36:28
Speaker
And so I kind of went and did that.
00:36:29
Speaker
And then we all went along with Justin from Learning Solutions to Chicago itself.
00:36:33
Speaker
I've never actually been downtown.
00:36:36
Speaker
We went and explored.
00:36:37
Speaker
And I don't know what the building's called.
00:36:40
Speaker
You go to the very top and it's called 360 tilt is the attraction.
00:36:43
Speaker
It used to be the Sears tower.
00:36:45
Speaker
I don't know what it's, I'm since names change all the time.
00:36:48
Speaker
This isn't the Sears tower.
00:36:50
Speaker
Cause the Sears tower is further West.
00:36:52
Speaker
Okay.
00:36:53
Speaker
This is like right on the beach line.
00:36:54
Speaker
This is a Hancock tower.
00:36:56
Speaker
Maybe.
00:36:57
Speaker
Okay.
00:36:58
Speaker
There's a cheesecake factory at it.
00:37:00
Speaker
I don't know.
00:37:01
Speaker
The famous cheesecake factory.
00:37:02
Speaker
The famous.
00:37:04
Speaker
But they have this attraction where you pretty much lay on the glass and then they tilt the whole glass.
00:37:11
Speaker
It's 94 floors up.
00:37:12
Speaker
They tilt you almost flat.
00:37:14
Speaker
So you're laying on top of the Chicago skyline.
00:37:20
Speaker
Did that.
00:37:20
Speaker
Walked around downtown.
00:37:22
Speaker
Had devil dogs.
00:37:23
Speaker
I've never had those before.
00:37:25
Speaker
And the funny part is a lot of the Chicago locals I talked to had never even heard of them.
00:37:29
Speaker
They're like the stereotypical Chicago hot dog.
00:37:31
Speaker
Like they've got the Chicago dog.
00:37:34
Speaker
But we found this one that was called It's Not a Corn Dog.
00:37:37
Speaker
If any of you are familiar with street corn, I love street corn.
00:37:41
Speaker
Have you had street corn, Scott?
00:37:43
Speaker
No.
00:37:43
Speaker
So street corn is famous down in Mexico.
00:37:47
Speaker
They take corn on the cob.
00:37:49
Speaker
They stick it on stick.
00:37:50
Speaker
They roll in like mayonnaise and sour cream.
00:37:53
Speaker
They sprinkle some spice on it, squirt it with a squirt of a lime juice.
00:37:58
Speaker
Okay.
00:37:59
Speaker
You eat it that way.
00:38:00
Speaker
That concept on a hot dog was pico de gallo.
00:38:05
Speaker
Okay.
00:38:05
Speaker
It was amazing.
00:38:07
Speaker
Okay.
00:38:07
Speaker
All right.
00:38:07
Speaker
Cause I'm not, I'm not feeling it right now, but okay.
00:38:13
Speaker
You had to been there.
00:38:14
Speaker
Okay, that's true.
00:38:15
Speaker
And then we went to The Bean.
00:38:16
Speaker
I know the guy that made it doesn't like it being called The Bean, but we went to The Bean and we did the architecture tour on the river.
00:38:25
Speaker
And then by that time, we made an agreement to be back to the hotel by dark.
00:38:31
Speaker
You don't want to be in Chicago at night.
00:38:34
Speaker
And that was pretty much our evening.
00:38:36
Speaker
I caught up with you guys for dinner.
00:38:37
Speaker
You were at some steakhouse.
00:38:40
Speaker
Oh yeah.
00:38:41
Speaker
Yeah.
00:38:43
Speaker
Yeah.
00:38:43
Speaker
So flipping out took the people who were helping out with the booth and, and everybody, they took them out to dinner.
00:38:50
Speaker
So that was super nice of them.
00:38:51
Speaker
Yeah.
00:38:53
Speaker
And then I pretty much just caught up.
00:38:55
Speaker
I think we stayed at the convention center after that.
00:38:57
Speaker
It was, yeah, I think we just went around and played games.
00:38:59
Speaker
Did you guys do anything Friday without me?
00:39:02
Speaker
I, I just went and played games.
00:39:05
Speaker
So we, we tried out all the different games, did some seminars, um,
00:39:09
Speaker
But that was pretty much floating around.
00:39:12
Speaker
All right.
00:39:12
Speaker
Let's talk about the games really quick.
00:39:14
Speaker
Okay.
00:39:15
Speaker
Let's talk Bond.
00:39:16
Speaker
That's the hot one from Stern.
00:39:17
Speaker
Let's talk Bond.
00:39:18
Speaker
Okay.
00:39:20
Speaker
Now, I'm going to credit Ron and Bruce from Slam Tilt.
00:39:25
Speaker
Ron picked this up that I didn't really pick up on Bond.
00:39:28
Speaker
Okay.
00:39:29
Speaker
But apparently, there's two pop bumpers.
00:39:35
Speaker
Yes.
00:39:35
Speaker
And on the premium...
00:39:38
Speaker
They're tied together.
00:39:40
Speaker
Yep.
00:39:40
Speaker
So they don't activate individually.
00:39:43
Speaker
The pro does activate individually.
00:39:46
Speaker
Uh huh.
00:39:48
Speaker
So that was, that was an interesting thing.
00:39:50
Speaker
I'm not saying that's a huge deal, but, but I'm a little confused as to why they made that decision, but I was told that they didn't have enough space on node boards.
00:40:00
Speaker
Right.
00:40:01
Speaker
And, and that, that makes sense.
00:40:04
Speaker
So I, I thought that was an interesting tidbit.
00:40:06
Speaker
I, I don't think that's going to push you from the premium to the pro, but I liked playing the layout.
00:40:16
Speaker
The code was,
00:40:18
Speaker
really um primitive well it's 0.54 it's yes i know it's baby stage yeah it is it is definitely in the pre-release stage yeah um the there were a lot of modes that weren't even programmed
00:40:37
Speaker
Uh, I, I liked the flow of the game.
00:40:41
Speaker
I wasn't a huge fan of the underwater shot on the left side because it stopped the flow a lot.
00:40:47
Speaker
Yeah.
00:40:48
Speaker
Um, you know, the scoop, uh, I'm, I'm sure with code they can, they can coach that up, but to be fair, um,
00:40:57
Speaker
This is a George Gomez game, and he also designed Batman 66.
00:41:02
Speaker
And when Batman 66 came out, it was a little bit of a clunker and had super early code.
00:41:11
Speaker
Same with Deadpool.
00:41:12
Speaker
Yes.
00:41:13
Speaker
How are those two games right now, Josh?
00:41:16
Speaker
They're some of the most coveted games out in the world right now.
00:41:20
Speaker
So what I would argue is that Bond is going to follow the same trajectory.
00:41:26
Speaker
I won't disagree with you.
00:41:27
Speaker
Yeah.
00:41:28
Speaker
I think bond will, will be a hit.
00:41:29
Speaker
It will be amazing.
00:41:31
Speaker
And I, I think you could go with either the premium of the pro.
00:41:35
Speaker
Yeah.
00:41:35
Speaker
And, and be totally fine.
00:41:37
Speaker
I personally like the pro better than like the premium.
00:41:40
Speaker
I felt like the only thing to shoot on the left side was that left orbit to left ramp or it, it's like a Papa Duke or an L one where you shoot the orbit, but it turns into a ramp.
00:41:51
Speaker
Right.
00:41:51
Speaker
Right.
00:41:52
Speaker
Uh,
00:41:54
Speaker
But the only reason you're hitting that is because of the multi-ball and the jet pack multi-balls, like one of the big ones in there.
00:42:01
Speaker
But I did like hitting that shot.
00:42:03
Speaker
You have to hit it clean.
00:42:04
Speaker
I have to hit it good.
00:42:06
Speaker
If you don't, it kind of ricochets off the spinner and the targets and comes back at you.
00:42:10
Speaker
One thing I wasn't a fan of was the drop targets.
00:42:13
Speaker
And the reason being is when they're up, it feeds the ball very nicely out of the missile to the upper flipper.
00:42:21
Speaker
Right.
00:42:22
Speaker
If they're down, it's kind of chaos.
00:42:25
Speaker
Yeah.
00:42:26
Speaker
And I don't like that because it's like I'm hitting drop targets to advance something.
00:42:29
Speaker
And I'm getting analyzed for it.
00:42:31
Speaker
Yeah.
00:42:34
Speaker
The right side was very fun to shoot.
00:42:36
Speaker
There's a lot of tight shots on that right side, though.
00:42:40
Speaker
And it's definitely you missed, you die.
00:42:43
Speaker
But I think overall, it's hard to base anything off the code that they have right now because it's 0.54.
00:42:50
Speaker
I think they had one whopping villain mode in there.
00:42:52
Speaker
It was Goldfinger, Antoine Bonds on the table getting the laser shot at him.
00:42:58
Speaker
And then you could do bird one multi-ball, which is up the middle.
00:43:03
Speaker
I never started a henchman mode because I could not hit that side ramp to save my life.
00:43:08
Speaker
I can't remember if I started one.
00:43:11
Speaker
I will say early, early, I found it interesting that
00:43:19
Speaker
This was Thursday, I think.
00:43:22
Speaker
So before other people came in there, because we were there early for flipping the script, I went over and played the pro.
00:43:29
Speaker
I don't know if I was the first person on it, but I GC'd it.
00:43:33
Speaker
Yeah.
00:43:33
Speaker
Yeah.
00:43:34
Speaker
And this was my first game that I hadn't really played.
00:43:37
Speaker
So they had that set up where I could find all the shots.
00:43:41
Speaker
So I was, you know, I was impressed with that.
00:43:44
Speaker
But I would leave this as I'm betting this will be a hit once the code is done.
00:43:52
Speaker
Right now, the code is still in the early stages.
00:43:55
Speaker
So you are, you're a beta tester.
00:43:57
Speaker
Yep.
00:43:59
Speaker
When I played Bond on the premium, I had dropped a score of 600 million.
00:44:06
Speaker
And I felt like I explored everything that was in the game up to that point.
00:44:11
Speaker
And it was fun.
00:44:12
Speaker
I enjoyed it.
00:44:14
Speaker
At least enjoyed the shots.
00:44:16
Speaker
I can't say anything about the code or whatnot.
00:44:18
Speaker
If they can fine-tune the code, I think the game will be fun.
00:44:22
Speaker
There was some other stuff that was pointed out like
00:44:24
Speaker
It's not very into the Bond universe yet, but then again, like I said, the code's so early.
00:44:28
Speaker
It's hard to judge how far we're... And it's Lonnie who's doing the code, right?
00:44:35
Speaker
So Lonnie did a great job with Star Trek.
00:44:38
Speaker
And Guardians, and...
00:44:40
Speaker
Yeah, people love Stranger Things.
00:44:44
Speaker
I'm not too terribly worried about it.
00:44:46
Speaker
Here's my thing.
00:44:47
Speaker
We're two months after the reveal.
00:44:50
Speaker
We still have the Keith L160th, which Gomez and L1 have both confirmed.
00:44:55
Speaker
It still hasn't been shown.
00:44:57
Speaker
Even if we go to two... We've done two reveals this year.
00:45:01
Speaker
Let's say for some other reasons, Stern next year is like, we're doing two more reveals.
00:45:04
Speaker
We're not doing the three cornerstones.
00:45:06
Speaker
Even if that happens again, let's say they reveal...
00:45:10
Speaker
anywhere from January to April, if that's the case, Bond might get passed up by that point because these games aren't getting really released.
00:45:21
Speaker
Like some are shipping out this month.
00:45:23
Speaker
they're making a lot and to be fair they are making more games now than they ever have but it's still not keeping up with demand yes but the second run so most of the first run doesn't go to homeowners right it goes to location yeah and even with le's and premiums getting out there it's still going to be a handful of people that are more uh
00:45:46
Speaker
more dedicated to the companies, I guess, than your regular, just I decided to randomly buy a pinball machine.
00:45:52
Speaker
So a lot of these aren't going to get into homes until April.
00:45:55
Speaker
If there's any other reveal that...
00:45:58
Speaker
heaven forbids like it l1 cornerstone i feel like it it may suffer yeah it's gonna suffer it may suffer if they can't sell while the interest is high and i would say the interest from when we've talked to a few a few distributors they haven't said it's low interest but they've also all admitted that it's less interest than they anticipated yeah i agree uh queen what'd you think queen
00:46:30
Speaker
Okay.
00:46:31
Speaker
Queen is pretty.
00:46:32
Speaker
Yeah.
00:46:34
Speaker
My vibe on Queen is it feels like it was made in 1989.
00:46:39
Speaker
That bold?
00:46:44
Speaker
maybe 92.
00:46:45
Speaker
It felt like an early belly, belly Williams.
00:46:50
Speaker
Yeah.
00:46:50
Speaker
It felt like a belly Williams.
00:46:51
Speaker
Yeah.
00:46:51
Speaker
It felt like a belly, but it was early.
00:46:54
Speaker
And so it still didn't have like amazing shots.
00:46:58
Speaker
It had shots that worked, but, um, it looked professional.
00:47:04
Speaker
Uh, the artwork was better up close.
00:47:05
Speaker
Um,
00:47:07
Speaker
It looked... I'm not sure that... And to be fair, the code was very rudimentary too.
00:47:20
Speaker
So I thought it was fun enough.
00:47:23
Speaker
It's a game that I would play on location.
00:47:25
Speaker
I am not a diehard Queen fan.
00:47:29
Speaker
And so I wouldn't plan on buying this for my house unless it had...
00:47:36
Speaker
like an iron maiden feel to it where the you know the layout blows me away and how many iron maiden fans are out there versus how many people love keith elwin's design yeah or you could say metallica too um there there are a lot of people who buy metallica who just love borg's layout yeah i think the other thing too both you and i are family men and we have young children
00:48:00
Speaker
Yeah.
00:48:00
Speaker
There's some naked booty on there.
00:48:02
Speaker
Yeah.
00:48:02
Speaker
There's the, there's the fat bottom girls, uh, uh, orbit where you're like, wow, there's, there's, there's a naked girl riding a boat, a bike.
00:48:12
Speaker
I don't know if you got to this part of the code, but I actually got her to pop up on the screen and she, they shake her across the screen with all the glory.
00:48:20
Speaker
Oh yeah.
00:48:20
Speaker
No, I, yeah, I, I, I didn't, I played two balls.
00:48:24
Speaker
Um,
00:48:25
Speaker
And it was okay.
00:48:27
Speaker
It was okay.
00:48:28
Speaker
I would say that it felt better than I thought it was going to.
00:48:33
Speaker
It shoots really well.
00:48:34
Speaker
You could tell Barry Ousler, a well-known designer that has done multiple pinball machines, was involved with it.
00:48:40
Speaker
I think my only real complaint, unless if they code in a skill shot on the left side, so there's two drop targets.
00:48:47
Speaker
There's one on the left and one on the right.
00:48:48
Speaker
And obviously, drop targets are kind of gatekeepers, right?
00:48:52
Speaker
For some odd reason, the one on the left that's gatekeeping the shot is like an inch or two up from the shot.
00:48:58
Speaker
So if you pull the plunger just right, you can actually plunge it up into behind the drop target up into the hole.
00:49:04
Speaker
But it wasn't giving a skill shot.
00:49:06
Speaker
I really think they need to turn that into a skill shot.
00:49:08
Speaker
And then you'll really feel like, oh, yeah, that was awesome.
00:49:10
Speaker
You know?
00:49:12
Speaker
Shots flowed really well.
00:49:13
Speaker
I enjoyed it.
00:49:14
Speaker
I mean, there was still some, like, clunk to it.
00:49:17
Speaker
I don't know what the... There's, like, a lion shot.
00:49:19
Speaker
on kind of the right side.
00:49:21
Speaker
I don't know if there's something that's like you have to open up that shot for the ball to go further in.
00:49:27
Speaker
It's like you'd shoot that shot and then it would just kind of dribble back out.
00:49:31
Speaker
Yeah.
00:49:32
Speaker
I don't know if that shot actually goes anywhere.
00:49:35
Speaker
So it may.
00:49:37
Speaker
Again, I had two balls on it.
00:49:40
Speaker
And that's pretty much all I played.
00:49:42
Speaker
I got far enough that I completed most of the game.
00:49:44
Speaker
So I was like, okay, but it was like, I think the code was like 0.4.
00:49:49
Speaker
Yeah.
00:49:49
Speaker
And then, well, the other problem too is, is it was, they were all set to two ball, but I kept getting extra balls.
00:49:54
Speaker
I don't know how it's getting extra balls.
00:49:56
Speaker
So my games are going on for a while.
00:49:58
Speaker
So I feel bad for the people standing behind me.
00:50:01
Speaker
I enjoyed it though.
00:50:02
Speaker
The music was good.
00:50:03
Speaker
The sound could be a little bit better, but you're taking live footage from the eighties, right?
00:50:08
Speaker
Yeah, so it felt theme appropriate.
00:50:13
Speaker
And this is the same thing I said about people complaining about the Bond artwork.
00:50:18
Speaker
I'm thinking this feels like a queen pinball machine that would have been made in 1988.
00:50:23
Speaker
Yep.
00:50:23
Speaker
Again, the clips are from that era.
00:50:29
Speaker
The art is from that era.
00:50:31
Speaker
And the layout felt like it was too.
00:50:33
Speaker
I felt like the band members were not enthused to be playing, telling you what to do in the pinball machine.
00:50:40
Speaker
Yeah, but how many... I mean, they try.
00:50:42
Speaker
I know, yeah.
00:50:44
Speaker
There's a reason why...
00:50:46
Speaker
There's a reason why having band members do call outs.
00:50:50
Speaker
It's a mixed blessing.
00:50:51
Speaker
Sometimes they nail it and other times like Metallica, the only guy who's into it is James Hatfield, but he's also the lead singer.
00:50:59
Speaker
Yeah.
00:51:00
Speaker
Who, who he is the, he's the voice of Metallica anyway.
00:51:03
Speaker
True.
00:51:04
Speaker
As opposed to Kurt Cobain or not Kurt Cobain, uh, Kurt Hammett.
00:51:08
Speaker
Yeah.
00:51:09
Speaker
Yeah.
00:51:09
Speaker
Kurt Hammett.
00:51:10
Speaker
Who's just like, shoot that.
00:51:12
Speaker
Okay.
00:51:13
Speaker
And I don't, I'm not a voice actor either.
00:51:17
Speaker
There's a reason why you hire voice actors for stuff like that.
00:51:20
Speaker
Sure.
00:51:22
Speaker
Magic Girl.
00:51:23
Speaker
What'd you think of Magic Girl?
00:51:26
Speaker
It felt like a, it felt like a beta Circus Voltaire.
00:51:33
Speaker
I can, I'll give you that.
00:51:34
Speaker
Yeah, it's a pretty machine, but it still felt like a homebrew in that, yeah, it looks pretty.
00:51:44
Speaker
It had ramps.
00:51:46
Speaker
When I was playing it, I couldn't actually get it to go all the way up to the top of the playfield, even on a solid hit.
00:51:55
Speaker
Which is funny to me because multiple people had said that.
00:51:59
Speaker
Yeah, and you got it.
00:52:02
Speaker
Oh, I got it all the time.
00:52:03
Speaker
I had no issues.
00:52:03
Speaker
So I have a feeling there were times when there was more power draw that because I was hitting it cleanly and it wasn't going up.
00:52:13
Speaker
I don't know, but that's the other hard part too is in Magic Girl, I learned that the multiball is kind of hard to get to because you're trying to shoot those ramps.
00:52:23
Speaker
You have to light lock via the in and out lanes.
00:52:27
Speaker
So you got to shift through those.
00:52:29
Speaker
Once you've lit all four, then you shoot the ramp and then it diverts it to the left side.
00:52:34
Speaker
You do the four lights.
00:52:35
Speaker
It diverts it to the right side.
00:52:36
Speaker
You do the four lights.
00:52:37
Speaker
Right.
00:52:37
Speaker
So you got to do this 12 times with the rollovers and then three shots to the ramps.
00:52:43
Speaker
And then it was a fun multiball, but I felt like multiball shouldn't be that hard to get to.
00:52:48
Speaker
Yeah, multiball should be more accessible.
00:52:52
Speaker
But it's a fun game.
00:52:55
Speaker
It's definitely not up to modern standards.
00:52:59
Speaker
I'll put it that way.
00:53:00
Speaker
No.
00:53:01
Speaker
Again, it felt like, hey, this is a trial run and Circus Voltaire is a better game.
00:53:06
Speaker
Yeah.
00:53:07
Speaker
Yeah.
00:53:08
Speaker
But it does have that same Papa Duke filled everything.
00:53:11
Speaker
The code feels the same.
00:53:12
Speaker
Feels very poppy.
00:53:14
Speaker
You know, shoot the shot multiple times to spell, you know, potions and shoot the shot so many times to do locks.
00:53:21
Speaker
And it's...
00:53:24
Speaker
It was a good game.
00:53:25
Speaker
I would never spend $25,000 on this game.
00:53:28
Speaker
What did they say?
00:53:30
Speaker
Someone just bought one for $35,000 and is shipping it to the guys over in Europe and having them finish it for $25,000.
00:53:38
Speaker
So when everything's sitting down, it's like 60 grand for this game.
00:53:43
Speaker
It's a bragging right at that point.
00:53:44
Speaker
And that's Supreme.
00:53:46
Speaker
That's buying Supreme for $80,000.
00:53:47
Speaker
I mean, it's, it's not, that's a, that's someone who wants it for the novelty of having it as a production game in the current state.
00:53:58
Speaker
It would be, uh, it would be panned.
00:54:02
Speaker
Yeah.
00:54:04
Speaker
So still it was a fun game.
00:54:06
Speaker
I'm glad we were able to play it.
00:54:07
Speaker
It was fun.
00:54:08
Speaker
So it was fun to see it, I guess.
00:54:10
Speaker
Yeah, it was really fun to see it and see kind of that part of history, right?
00:54:14
Speaker
Yeah.
00:54:15
Speaker
Am I missing any games?
00:54:17
Speaker
The Mandotopper was there.
00:54:18
Speaker
Yeah, Mandalorian.
00:54:20
Speaker
So I still feel like that's... I'm glad they're trying different things for toppers.
00:54:28
Speaker
When you're getting to like 33% of the cost of a game, that's a steep thing.
00:54:35
Speaker
I don't think I'm going to get the Mandotopper.
00:54:38
Speaker
It's just, it's a little too steep for me.
00:54:43
Speaker
The, yeah, it looks cool.
00:54:48
Speaker
And they certainly put a lot of code into it.
00:54:52
Speaker
I still, when I compare what Stern's doing versus what CGC has done with their toppers, I wish Stern would do something more high quality like CGC toppers.
00:55:06
Speaker
And the attack from Mars topper is amazing.
00:55:08
Speaker
unbelievable the even the medieval madness topper it's static but it looks beautiful when you look at stern toppers they still look like walmart displays selling candy i agree so that's that's the downside um there is some some things about mando topper that were about playability but again some people like that some people don't like that oh there's part of a game i can't get to if i'm not
00:55:38
Speaker
spending the two grand.
00:55:40
Speaker
Yeah.
00:55:40
Speaker
I don't, I don't mind it, but to be fair, there's a lot of wizard modes.
00:55:44
Speaker
I never get to anyway.
00:55:46
Speaker
Yeah.
00:55:46
Speaker
So, so it's true.
00:55:48
Speaker
Why are you complaining about an extra mode for $2,000 when you came and get past the, even the mini wizard mode for some people, you know?
00:55:54
Speaker
Exactly.
00:55:55
Speaker
Yeah.
00:55:56
Speaker
So, uh, so that's my sick.
00:55:59
Speaker
We got one more game.
00:56:00
Speaker
Yes.
00:56:00
Speaker
I think this was about this was the best one.
00:56:03
Speaker
Yeah.
00:56:04
Speaker
Yeah.
00:56:04
Speaker
Hands down.
00:56:04
Speaker
But the problem is, is it also is a tried and true layout.
00:56:08
Speaker
But yes, you lead us off.
00:56:11
Speaker
Yeah.
00:56:11
Speaker
So we were able to play Fathom.
00:56:14
Speaker
And my gosh, that is an amazing looking game.
00:56:18
Speaker
Holy crap.
00:56:19
Speaker
Haggis.
00:56:21
Speaker
Talk about really nailing it.
00:56:24
Speaker
That is a beautiful game.
00:56:28
Speaker
It feels like it has the old feel.
00:56:31
Speaker
So even, you know, the flippers from that era, like the 70s flippers, they're not like the quick flip flippers that Stern has now.
00:56:44
Speaker
They're a little slower.
00:56:46
Speaker
They...
00:56:47
Speaker
They were able to emulate those really well or replicate them, I guess.
00:56:51
Speaker
It's not emulating.
00:56:52
Speaker
They were able to replicate that feel.
00:56:53
Speaker
So it felt like I was playing a game that was resurrected from 1978.
00:56:59
Speaker
Yep.
00:56:59
Speaker
But the, you know, the lights were beautiful and the layout and the, and the production was beautiful.
00:57:08
Speaker
That was, I had the most fun playing that game.
00:57:12
Speaker
over all of the games there.
00:57:14
Speaker
Yep.
00:57:15
Speaker
It was definitely the one that when I finished, when I finished a game, it was the, I've got to play another game.
00:57:20
Speaker
Yeah.
00:57:21
Speaker
I got to keep getting further in this mermaid battle stuff.
00:57:23
Speaker
Yeah.
00:57:24
Speaker
I've got to figure this out.
00:57:26
Speaker
It was awesome.
00:57:27
Speaker
It was, it was a take my money.
00:57:29
Speaker
Like that's how I felt.
00:57:30
Speaker
Take my, shut up and take my money.
00:57:32
Speaker
Yep.
00:57:33
Speaker
I kind of want one now.
00:57:34
Speaker
Yeah.
00:57:34
Speaker
And the quality was amazing on it.
00:57:37
Speaker
Yeah.
00:57:37
Speaker
I'm jealous.
00:57:38
Speaker
My friend Tony has a, has one on order.
00:57:42
Speaker
I want to thank Aaron from Fast Pinball.
00:57:44
Speaker
That is the actual name.
00:57:45
Speaker
Oh, absolutely.
00:57:45
Speaker
Yeah.
00:57:46
Speaker
And we want to have him on.
00:57:47
Speaker
That was super nice.
00:57:49
Speaker
I talked with him for about an hour.
00:57:51
Speaker
So not only did he donate product, he donated a color DMD.
00:57:55
Speaker
Essentially, it's an RGB DMD that they make.
00:57:59
Speaker
But they're the ones that brought Fathom.
00:58:00
Speaker
And then they brought all their own games emulated on the Fast Pinball system.
00:58:05
Speaker
So if you're into building your own homebrews and stuff like that, check out Fast Pinball.
00:58:10
Speaker
Because you can go through there and make your own games.
00:58:12
Speaker
They read on Whitewater and Funhouse.
00:58:15
Speaker
And this sounds like that's a lot what the Pugetri games are running off of.
00:58:18
Speaker
It is, yeah.
00:58:19
Speaker
They're associated with that.
00:58:21
Speaker
The haggis games are all running off of fast.
00:58:23
Speaker
So these are good quality boards that seem to be holding up.
00:58:25
Speaker
I don't see anything dropping out.
00:58:27
Speaker
We didn't have any issues of it seizing up or anything like that.
00:58:31
Speaker
um there was an addictive little thing in fathom that i kept doing and someone's like what was that causing it to do i'm like no it's just fun when the ball's drained you know how usually when you hit the get to go faster you hit the flippers together right yeah for some odd reason i don't know who coded this in if it was martin i'm gonna laugh but when you do it it gives like a big bass boom and so you kept hitting it's like boom boom boom
00:58:57
Speaker
It was hilarious, but it was so satisfying to do.
00:58:59
Speaker
I don't know what it was about it.
00:59:01
Speaker
It was just, yeah, your ball drains and you're like, I'm going to rage flip really quick and just make it sound like the game is just trying to blow up.
00:59:08
Speaker
I wish there were... The one layout thing that I love about Fathom is I love that the outlane and the inlane are reversed.
00:59:18
Speaker
And so it's non-intuitive.
00:59:21
Speaker
What you think is the outlane, it actually...
00:59:25
Speaker
like goes through a one way gate and, uh, and it doesn't drain and you can, if you time it right, you can actually hit it when you're going through the out lane and bring it over through that gate.
00:59:40
Speaker
If, if you can time it right, but it was, that was such a, a beautiful game.
00:59:47
Speaker
that I would rank that best in show just the way it looked and the way it played.
00:59:52
Speaker
Uh, that was the one, if I were to pack one up and, and take it out that day, it would, it would have been fathom.
01:00:01
Speaker
Yep.
01:00:01
Speaker
I agree.
01:00:03
Speaker
Uh, home brews.
01:00:04
Speaker
Did you dig into these at all?
01:00:05
Speaker
Yes.
01:00:06
Speaker
So, um, a little bit, I, I, I kept trying to make my way back there and I kept getting distracted.
01:00:14
Speaker
Um, because it, sadly they're, they're always in the back.
01:00:18
Speaker
I, I played Sonic again, uh, still is a, a well themed integrated game.
01:00:24
Speaker
So that was my first time playing Sonic.
01:00:27
Speaker
I was giddy.
01:00:28
Speaker
Yeah, it was fun.
01:00:29
Speaker
They, they, he did such a good job of theme integration on that.
01:00:33
Speaker
Uh,
01:00:36
Speaker
I wish he had been able to incorporate a loop into because he was able to do the Sonic spinning up and then he shoots the ball out quickly.
01:00:47
Speaker
It would have been fun if he were able to incorporate a loop in there, but I understand there's reasons why you can't.
01:00:52
Speaker
Yeah.
01:00:53
Speaker
I think that was the only way he was getting a loop in there.
01:00:56
Speaker
It's like the medieval madness catapult shot, right?
01:01:00
Speaker
But you shoot it through a loop-de-loop.
01:01:03
Speaker
I was really enjoying it.
01:01:04
Speaker
It was a really fun game.
01:01:06
Speaker
I didn't get to play it till Saturday night at like 1130.
01:01:10
Speaker
It always had someone on it.
01:01:12
Speaker
And the guy is a long playing game because it's not it's it's a nice layout, but they need they'll need to make it a little more tough for a production game.
01:01:26
Speaker
Well, my understanding is they don't have a plan on reproducing it just yet.
01:01:29
Speaker
Sure.
01:01:30
Speaker
But no, I'm just saying that if they, if they use that layout, not necessarily with Sonic, then they're going to have to, to tighten up the shots a little bit because they're a little too easy to find.
01:01:41
Speaker
Yeah.
01:01:41
Speaker
Right now.
01:01:41
Speaker
So here's, here's my problem with the homebrew.
01:01:44
Speaker
Yeah.
01:01:45
Speaker
Uh,
01:01:46
Speaker
all the games were fantastic.
01:01:47
Speaker
They were enjoyable, but if you're going for the American dream, yeah, none of those games can fit in that category.
01:01:55
Speaker
Right.
01:01:55
Speaker
Right.
01:01:56
Speaker
And the two that I found very fun to play, um, we're actually from, and I'm sorry, I wish I remember the guy's name.
01:02:03
Speaker
Uh, I, I, I talked with Joe Lemire about him and, uh, he, he had, he's the one who did frozen.
01:02:11
Speaker
Okay.
01:02:12
Speaker
And he also did the, I think it was like,
01:02:15
Speaker
haunted cruise or ghost ship or something like that.
01:02:19
Speaker
But it was, it was definitely a pinball 2000 vibe.
01:02:24
Speaker
Yeah.
01:02:24
Speaker
It had that type of integration and it would, it was really cool.
01:02:29
Speaker
Yeah.
01:02:30
Speaker
But you're right.
01:02:31
Speaker
I'm not sure.
01:02:31
Speaker
And these are hobby games.
01:02:33
Speaker
I'm not sure how they would translate to a manufactured option.
01:02:39
Speaker
Yeah.
01:02:39
Speaker
But you kind of hit the nail on the head.
01:02:41
Speaker
Like you have these frozen in that other game where like pinball 2000, they had the monitors built in.
01:02:46
Speaker
Americans are going to make those.
01:02:47
Speaker
They're not going to revamp the system just for those trash land.
01:02:51
Speaker
That's akin to like pinball circus.
01:02:53
Speaker
If you don't know about pinball circus, it's a pinball machine, essentially an arcade cabinet goes up instead of you're, they're not going to make a custom build like that.
01:03:01
Speaker
It's a gimmick game.
01:03:02
Speaker
And pinball circus is a gimmick game.
01:03:03
Speaker
Like last time I was at the pinball hall of fame, they were actually cleaning it or something.
01:03:07
Speaker
So I didn't get to play it.
01:03:09
Speaker
But then the games that were even near normal, not normal, sorry, manufacturer ready, right?
01:03:15
Speaker
We're re themes.
01:03:16
Speaker
Yeah.
01:03:16
Speaker
Like someone brought a Deadpool,
01:03:19
Speaker
Right.
01:03:19
Speaker
And incorporated the, well, they, yeah.
01:03:21
Speaker
And they incorporate the movie clips.
01:03:23
Speaker
I recognized it was different code because you could change the skill shot.
01:03:27
Speaker
Oh, because on Deadpool, you can't.
01:03:29
Speaker
But from the looks of it, it looked like the only difference if you didn't play it, like the only difference was just the back class.
01:03:35
Speaker
And you're like, someone's trolling us, right?
01:03:37
Speaker
Like, yeah, they brought a Deadpool and was like, I made a homebrew.
01:03:40
Speaker
You know what I'm saying?
01:03:42
Speaker
He basically chopped movie, movie themes and put it in there.
01:03:46
Speaker
But like congratulations to Jake Danzig.
01:03:49
Speaker
He won best in show and it was a rethemed.
01:03:52
Speaker
He did Dukes of Hazzard.
01:03:53
Speaker
Oh yeah.
01:03:54
Speaker
They're not going to make that because it's a solid state from the 80s.
01:03:59
Speaker
Yeah.
01:04:00
Speaker
And that's a beautiful game too.
01:04:01
Speaker
Yes.
01:04:02
Speaker
Very beautiful game.
01:04:02
Speaker
Amazing game.
01:04:03
Speaker
Jake, thanks for sharing that one with us.
01:04:07
Speaker
All right.
01:04:09
Speaker
Let's move on.
01:04:09
Speaker
We're past the hour mark.
01:04:11
Speaker
We are.
01:04:12
Speaker
Let's do a quick summary on pinball Olympics.
01:04:15
Speaker
Okay.
01:04:17
Speaker
Really enjoyed it.
01:04:19
Speaker
Yeah, it was fun.
01:04:21
Speaker
I actually did the running challenge this time.
01:04:28
Speaker
I am not a runner.
01:04:29
Speaker
So this is fat boy running on a treadmill that's going way too fast.

Pinball Olympics Adventures

01:04:34
Speaker
10 miles an hour is what they had to do.
01:04:36
Speaker
Yeah, so that's a sprint.
01:04:37
Speaker
And I was playing Junkyard.
01:04:39
Speaker
And actually, I probably could have made it to the finals.
01:04:44
Speaker
because I started multi-ball
01:04:47
Speaker
But I drained right when I started it.
01:04:49
Speaker
And I was exhausted.
01:04:50
Speaker
So I'm like, you know what?
01:04:51
Speaker
Okay.
01:04:52
Speaker
So I drained and I stopped and then started spitting out balls.
01:04:55
Speaker
But I'm like, I don't think I had enough in the tank to keep running at 10 miles an hour and playing a multi-ball.
01:05:02
Speaker
I was just dog tired.
01:05:05
Speaker
So that took a lot out of me.
01:05:07
Speaker
I didn't get to play some of the games.
01:05:10
Speaker
I didn't get a medal.
01:05:11
Speaker
I wanted to get a medal.
01:05:12
Speaker
But I only really had the chance to play
01:05:17
Speaker
probably about half of the games once.
01:05:20
Speaker
And I did, maybe not even half the games, probably a third of the games.
01:05:26
Speaker
And the one that I had the most chance of actually winning on was the one where you're looking through a glass, you're looking straight ahead, but it has a 45 degree mirror.
01:05:39
Speaker
And so you can see.
01:05:41
Speaker
And so that was the one that I had.
01:05:43
Speaker
I mean, I probably had like five shots on that one.
01:05:46
Speaker
But always fun.
01:05:49
Speaker
Linemen in the Olympics.
01:05:50
Speaker
Tacos were amazing.
01:05:51
Speaker
Tacos were great.
01:05:53
Speaker
Everybody had a good time.
01:05:55
Speaker
And it's a carnival atmosphere.
01:05:58
Speaker
If you're going to Expo, if you plan on going to Expo next year, you have to do yourself a favor and get yourself a ticket for pinball lives.
01:06:05
Speaker
Do the pinball Olympics.
01:06:05
Speaker
The shuttle was a great idea, too.
01:06:08
Speaker
So people who rode the shuttle were able to, they were also able to drink adult beverages and as much as they wanted.
01:06:16
Speaker
And then they didn't have to worry about driving home unsafe.
01:06:19
Speaker
So...
01:06:20
Speaker
Yep.
01:06:20
Speaker
They were able to drink responsibly.
01:06:22
Speaker
That was a nice option too.
01:06:24
Speaker
The first game that we played was Vortex, which is black hole inside of, if you've ever been to carnivals, you walk across the catwalk in the spinning tunnel and it totally throws you off.
01:06:35
Speaker
I don't know what it was.
01:06:36
Speaker
The tunnel was not
01:06:37
Speaker
bothering me at all.
01:06:38
Speaker
I had my head down.
01:06:40
Speaker
Yeah.
01:06:40
Speaker
You were zoned in.
01:06:41
Speaker
I was zoned in.
01:06:42
Speaker
I know what to do on black hole.
01:06:43
Speaker
I don't know why I've, I've practiced it a handful of times.
01:06:47
Speaker
Uh, I almost rolled the machine.
01:06:49
Speaker
I got up over 900,000 or no, it was a little, a little under 900,000.
01:06:52
Speaker
Didn't you get, didn't you get gold on that?
01:06:54
Speaker
Yeah.
01:06:55
Speaker
Yeah.
01:06:55
Speaker
I was, no one even came close.
01:06:56
Speaker
So like one guy walks up to me, he's like, dude, that's a good,
01:06:59
Speaker
like score normally, like not inside of a, I just, I kept going.
01:07:04
Speaker
It was, I got in the groove.
01:07:06
Speaker
It was like our first game.
01:07:07
Speaker
So I was like, I'm done.
01:07:10
Speaker
But, um, we did really well on Metallica.
01:07:13
Speaker
Uh, and it was Julie that was giving us crap.
01:07:15
Speaker
Right.
01:07:15
Speaker
So you're, so your coworker, Julie came to the same convention.
01:07:18
Speaker
She, she went to pinball Olympics with us and we did, if you're not familiar with Metallica, there's two of them side by side.
01:07:25
Speaker
It's hilarious.
01:07:26
Speaker
Yeah.
01:07:26
Speaker
And that far left, that far left target, the one that you kind of shoot up into that channel and hit the target is hooked up to the other tilt Bob on the other machine.
01:07:34
Speaker
So the, the, the strategy here is because you got to play four on four, uh, you've got to tilt out the other team before they tilts you out.
01:07:43
Speaker
And if you're going for it, you keep in that tilt over and over.
01:07:48
Speaker
We had tilted out the whole team and I was on ball two.
01:07:50
Speaker
Yeah.
01:07:51
Speaker
And I'm like, yes, I'm going for the high score.
01:07:53
Speaker
Now I want to get metal on Metallica because this is like an epic game.
01:07:56
Speaker
Right.
01:07:56
Speaker
Yeah.
01:07:57
Speaker
Uh, Julie was not having it.
01:07:59
Speaker
She kept getting back on just to mess with us.
01:08:02
Speaker
I tilted her out nine times in a row.
01:08:05
Speaker
I kept tilting her out too.
01:08:06
Speaker
It was hilarious.
01:08:07
Speaker
And the only reason I didn't tilt her anymore is because I drained because I wasn't paying attention.
01:08:12
Speaker
Yeah.
01:08:13
Speaker
And yeah, it was, it was pretty awesome.
01:08:15
Speaker
So yeah, no, I, I love the, that's such a creative way of doing it.
01:08:20
Speaker
So yeah.
01:08:22
Speaker
uh pinball olympics was amazing got back on saturday night uh i don't even remember what we did saturday night i guess we cleaned up uh saturday night we just kind of cleaned up we had pizza and uh yeah we went lumenaldi's yeah yeah uh i personally me i like giro donos more
01:08:45
Speaker
I actually thought they were both fine, but I like Mark Silk got a thin crust and I had a bite of his, you know, a slice of his little small pizza.
01:08:54
Speaker
And I'm like, I think I like that thin crust.
01:08:57
Speaker
Really?
01:08:57
Speaker
Don't tell anyone.
01:08:58
Speaker
I won't tell anyone.
01:08:59
Speaker
Yeah.
01:09:00
Speaker
So that's pretty much our expo.
01:09:02
Speaker
You came home on Sunday.
01:09:03
Speaker
I hung around because my flight wasn't leaving till four.
01:09:06
Speaker
Yeah.
01:09:06
Speaker
I flew out Sunday morning at seven 30.
01:09:08
Speaker
I was home at 10 o'clock.
01:09:09
Speaker
So tournament was still going.
01:09:11
Speaker
Uh, it was fun to go there, sit and chit chat with that group.
01:09:13
Speaker
Cause it's the groups kind of separate, right?
01:09:15
Speaker
Like you're either there for the convention or you're there for the tournament.
01:09:18
Speaker
It was nice hanging out with Josh and Zach Sharp, uh, giving them grief.
01:09:22
Speaker
over the tournament and whatnot, hanging out with Jen Rupert.
01:09:24
Speaker
She was in there as well.
01:09:26
Speaker
It was just fun.
01:09:27
Speaker
It was kind of a nice, chill way to finish out Expo and see everything, I feel like.
01:09:35
Speaker
Yeah.
01:09:37
Speaker
I am going to go out on limits and say I actually prefer Pinball Expo more than I like Texas.

Expo vs. Texas Pinball Festival Preferences

01:09:42
Speaker
And the reason being is I feel like โ€“ You didn't have to wait in line.
01:09:46
Speaker
Didn't have to wait in line.
01:09:48
Speaker
It is still kind of that pinball reunion, right?
01:09:51
Speaker
You get a little different group of people there.
01:09:54
Speaker
But yeah, I didn't feel pressured to play the games because you could kind of get on any game you wanted at that point.
01:10:03
Speaker
And at Texas, I swore the shortest line was like two, three people deep.
01:10:07
Speaker
Yeah, it took a long time to get on the games at Texas.
01:10:12
Speaker
Yeah.
01:10:13
Speaker
I agree with you.
01:10:14
Speaker
If you want to play Ryu's Nightmare, just waddle right up to it.
01:10:16
Speaker
You might have one person in front of you.
01:10:18
Speaker
So I think it's a better experience.
01:10:21
Speaker
I actually like the food better in Chicago.
01:10:24
Speaker
Um, maybe it's cause I have to have a car.
01:10:28
Speaker
I really do.
01:10:29
Speaker
I feel like we did Uber it a little bit, but there's nothing within walking distance.
01:10:33
Speaker
So you're either going to Uber it or, or drive a car.
01:10:36
Speaker
Yeah, but people didn't know about this either.
01:10:38
Speaker
And maybe I shouldn't announce this because it's easy.
01:10:40
Speaker
There's a shuttle from the hotel and they'll take you three miles in any direction you want to go.
01:10:43
Speaker
Sure.
01:10:44
Speaker
And that's true.
01:10:44
Speaker
But then you, it is, there is a convenience of I'm booking an Uber and it shows up in five minutes.
01:10:51
Speaker
Yeah, but you just tell the, you tell the shuttle, I'm, Hey, I need to leave at nine or whatever.
01:10:55
Speaker
Yeah.
01:10:55
Speaker
Yeah.
01:10:56
Speaker
It wasn't that big of a deal.
01:10:57
Speaker
And I felt like I only sat for maybe 10 minutes at most for the shuttle.
01:11:00
Speaker
Yeah, they don't.
01:11:01
Speaker
They don't run on weekends, though.
01:11:03
Speaker
Oh, that's true.
01:11:03
Speaker
So Saturday, you're SOL.
01:11:05
Speaker
But if you're doing pinball Olympics, it doesn't matter anyway.
01:11:08
Speaker
So but yeah, take advantage of that.
01:11:10
Speaker
Take advantage of the shuttle and they'll pick you up from locations as well.
01:11:15
Speaker
So we did have some questions on the, we, we, we sent out a, a thing that's talking about questions.
01:11:22
Speaker
Do you want to do these questions now or do you want to push them off for two weeks?
01:11:26
Speaker
No, let's, let's do them really quick.
01:11:27
Speaker
Cause I, last time I looked, there was only like three, wasn't there?
01:11:29
Speaker
Okay.
01:11:30
Speaker
So Julie asks, what do you think of bond pro or premium?
01:11:33
Speaker
Pro.
01:11:36
Speaker
I would probably save the money and go with pro.
01:11:39
Speaker
Uh, the, however, I think that if you want the bells and whistles, I don't think you're going to be penalized for getting the premium.
01:11:47
Speaker
I just don't think it's worth $2,500 more.
01:11:50
Speaker
Yeah.
01:11:52
Speaker
Um, if CGC, this is Brad Hunter of lit

Pinball Industry Insights: Remakes and Innovations

01:11:55
Speaker
frames.
01:11:55
Speaker
If CGC moved away from the remakes, what titles would you want them to make?
01:12:00
Speaker
Um,
01:12:03
Speaker
There's at least, there used to be a list of five or six remakes they mentioned of making, including Theater Magic, Toten, I believe.
01:12:10
Speaker
I still hope they make those.
01:12:13
Speaker
I think CGC is trying to find that middle ground because they make excellent remakes.
01:12:21
Speaker
Yeah.
01:12:22
Speaker
The four remakes they have made are solid.
01:12:25
Speaker
Yeah.
01:12:26
Speaker
And they're coveted.
01:12:27
Speaker
So you can sell them.
01:12:28
Speaker
They're proven commodities.
01:12:30
Speaker
Other games that I would definitely make if I were them, I would do my best to figure out if I can do Adam's Family.
01:12:38
Speaker
Like figure out something.
01:12:40
Speaker
And the bottom line is the answer to all your questions is money.
01:12:44
Speaker
And there will be a fee that people will be willing to accept to remake that game.
01:12:53
Speaker
I think CGC moves away from remakes.
01:12:56
Speaker
And the reason being, we're seeing more and more of these 2.0 kits.
01:12:59
Speaker
Yeah.
01:13:00
Speaker
I think they're cheaper to produce.
01:13:01
Speaker
I think soon enough, the market's going to be saturated with those.
01:13:06
Speaker
I mean, we had like three come out this year, three or four.
01:13:09
Speaker
Yeah, but they're retheming old games.
01:13:12
Speaker
So I don't, I think CGC still has a good market.
01:13:17
Speaker
They would sell theater magic.
01:13:19
Speaker
They would sell Adam's family.
01:13:21
Speaker
They would sell twilight zone if they made that.
01:13:24
Speaker
Yeah, true.
01:13:25
Speaker
They would sell Indiana Jones pinball adventures that they made that.
01:13:29
Speaker
Speaking, sorry, you were talking about Twilight Zone reminded me of something at Expo.
01:13:33
Speaker
So we always say, hey, it's hard.
01:13:36
Speaker
Twilight Zone is a wide body, so it's out of the realm.
01:13:42
Speaker
I can't attest to this for CGC, but we did talk about this with Jersey Jack Pinball when we were doing the tour.
01:13:48
Speaker
Thanks to Ken Cromwell, he gave us a tour, and we talked a little bit about the designs.
01:13:55
Speaker
And yeah, he had a rotisserie, and specifically,
01:13:59
Speaker
i mean they were all making standard bodies yeah but and they've they've made wide bodies too so he's like it's you know you can scale up and down depending on what you want to make yeah as he says it's not impossible it's not like they have to retool the whole line in or anything like that those rotisseries are a size for wide bodies they just use them for their standard bodies right now so it would not be hard wink wink to go back to some of their old stuff like pirates of the caribbean yeah
01:14:23
Speaker
They weren't promising they'd do that.
01:14:25
Speaker
He didn't say that, but he said he could, they could make wide bodies if they wanted to.
01:14:29
Speaker
Okay.
01:14:30
Speaker
But what I'm saying is it's okay.
01:14:32
Speaker
That is not JJP endorsed.
01:14:33
Speaker
What I'm saying is it's not hard.
01:14:35
Speaker
Right.
01:14:35
Speaker
When, when you hear on a podcast, Oh, they probably won't do pirates because it's a wide body.
01:14:42
Speaker
That's not the case.
01:14:44
Speaker
Yeah.
01:14:44
Speaker
So.
01:14:45
Speaker
Yeah.
01:14:46
Speaker
The white body is not the issue.
01:14:47
Speaker
Um, yeah, theater magic.
01:14:49
Speaker
I think whitewater, uh, their version of whitewater would be amazing.
01:14:55
Speaker
And so there's still at least five or six games.
01:14:58
Speaker
However, eventually, if they keep going down that road, you're going to run out of titles.
01:15:04
Speaker
So you have to transition if you want to be not just a tribute band company.
01:15:16
Speaker
Will there be a Back to the Future pinball machine?
01:15:18
Speaker
If so, which manufacturer and when?
01:15:22
Speaker
I'll answer that.
01:15:24
Speaker
Go ahead.
01:15:25
Speaker
I want to say more than likely.
01:15:27
Speaker
Okay.
01:15:28
Speaker
If there is one made, it's going to be Stern because when we talked to Joe Camacown last year on the interview, he has some vested interest in back to the future, like the Broadway musical or whatever.
01:15:40
Speaker
So he has some sway with that license.
01:15:43
Speaker
So it comes down to Stern when I bet if they do come out with one, it's in the next five years.
01:15:49
Speaker
Yeah.
01:15:50
Speaker
And I would say it's certainly on the list of things that people would like to see, but I would add to that Lord of the Rings vault, um, Tron vault, like other things, Harry Potter, obviously.
01:16:05
Speaker
Um, there's a lot of wishlist stuff on there too.
01:16:08
Speaker
True.
01:16:08
Speaker
I just feel like back to the future because of the sway that Joe has at Stern is more than likely than those other three.
01:16:14
Speaker
Yeah.
01:16:15
Speaker
All right.
01:16:16
Speaker
Nathan Smith asked most underrated Valley Williams titles.
01:16:20
Speaker
That could be like a whole discussion.
01:16:22
Speaker
Really?
01:16:23
Speaker
What's your number one underrated?
01:16:25
Speaker
You know, I, I think no fear is fun.
01:16:32
Speaker
I do.
01:16:32
Speaker
I think no fear is fun.
01:16:33
Speaker
It's just shooting ramps.
01:16:36
Speaker
Yeah.
01:16:36
Speaker
And so it's when I say, is it the best game?
01:16:41
Speaker
No, but I had fun playing it.
01:16:44
Speaker
I feel like there's one that's more underrated than that.
01:16:46
Speaker
I feel like Flintstones is very underrated.
01:16:49
Speaker
Oh, geez.
01:16:49
Speaker
That's a turd.
01:16:51
Speaker
It's not a turd.
01:16:51
Speaker
It shoots good.
01:16:52
Speaker
It's got some really good and interesting modes.
01:16:55
Speaker
Is it fantastic?
01:16:56
Speaker
No, no, but I, I feel like it is underrated for what it is.
01:17:01
Speaker
My one of my, I think that's underrated revenge for Mars.
01:17:05
Speaker
I feel like it does.
01:17:06
Speaker
Oh yeah.
01:17:07
Speaker
I agree.
01:17:08
Speaker
I actually like revenge for Mars.
01:17:09
Speaker
My, my friend has, has a beautiful one and I love playing it because it's just fun.
01:17:14
Speaker
It's funny.
01:17:14
Speaker
Yeah.
01:17:15
Speaker
It's a great game.
01:17:16
Speaker
If you can find a revenge for Mars, get your hands on one.
01:17:19
Speaker
Cause they are a blast.
01:17:21
Speaker
If you wear a size XL shirt in America, what size do you wear in Australia?
01:17:25
Speaker
Okay.
01:17:25
Speaker
I'll tell my experience about U2.
01:17:29
Speaker
I, we went to U2 in Ireland, humble brag to watch the, the Joshua tree tour like five years ago, you know, 2017.
01:17:40
Speaker
And I wanted a shirt.
01:17:42
Speaker
So I bought an XL shirt and it was a Smedium.
01:17:47
Speaker
I looked like a stuffed sausage in it and not in an attractive way.
01:17:52
Speaker
So I took it back.
01:17:53
Speaker
I'm like, I need something different.
01:17:56
Speaker
This is not going to work.
01:17:57
Speaker
So I ended up with a jacket.
01:17:58
Speaker
So I would say that an XL in American size, I don't know if they make that in Australian size.
01:18:07
Speaker
You may have to ask...
01:18:09
Speaker
Like, you know, like Marty or I don't know.
01:18:14
Speaker
I've got to tell you the backstory behind this because you don't know this shit.
01:18:18
Speaker
I don't.
01:18:18
Speaker
So Doug won some items from flipping the script on autism.
01:18:23
Speaker
Okay.
01:18:23
Speaker
Thank you for supporting, Doug.
01:18:24
Speaker
We really appreciate it.
01:18:26
Speaker
So Doug messages me.
01:18:27
Speaker
He's like, I'm a Husky man.
01:18:28
Speaker
So I at least need like an extra large, maybe a double XL.
01:18:31
Speaker
Okay.
01:18:32
Speaker
And I'm like, okay, dude.

Playfulness and Podcast Closing

01:18:34
Speaker
Well, Haggis had sent us all the stuff beforehand because they tried to package it in as least amount of packages as they could.
01:18:41
Speaker
So I pull out the shirt and I'm like, Doug, this thing is 5XL.
01:18:46
Speaker
Oh.
01:18:47
Speaker
And he's like, yeah, I'm not that big.
01:18:50
Speaker
Give it to someone else.
01:18:52
Speaker
But I'm like, Doug, hold on.
01:18:53
Speaker
I have a Haggis shirt.
01:18:54
Speaker
So I bought like the club.
01:18:56
Speaker
You know how a big Spooky has their fan club?
01:18:58
Speaker
Yeah.
01:18:59
Speaker
Club Haggis, right?
01:19:00
Speaker
Yeah.
01:19:00
Speaker
To support them.
01:19:03
Speaker
I asked for an extra large and I, it was like a medium, right?
01:19:06
Speaker
Like I felt like a stuffed sausage in it.
01:19:08
Speaker
So it sits on the rack in my, my closet.
01:19:10
Speaker
Right.
01:19:10
Speaker
Just smiling at me.
01:19:12
Speaker
And I told him like, dude, this is the situation.
01:19:14
Speaker
He's like, actually five XL might actually fit.
01:19:17
Speaker
Yeah.
01:19:17
Speaker
So I'd send that.
01:19:18
Speaker
Okay.
01:19:18
Speaker
All right.
01:19:19
Speaker
That makes sense.
01:19:20
Speaker
Okay.
01:19:20
Speaker
I was like, that's a totally random comment.
01:19:22
Speaker
So Doug will have to tell us when he gets the shirt.
01:19:24
Speaker
If it, if five XL is the way to go, if you're an American in Australia, there you go.
01:19:30
Speaker
I think that does it for our questions.
01:19:31
Speaker
Oh, sorry.
01:19:33
Speaker
One last question.
01:19:33
Speaker
Let's end on this one.
01:19:35
Speaker
Is this lineup, in this lineup, what would be the sixth machine?
01:19:39
Speaker
So if you had a Star Wars, a Metallica, a Stranger Things, a Rush, and a Godzilla.
01:19:47
Speaker
And there's like big medieval madness banner behind it.
01:19:51
Speaker
Are you keeping with the theme?
01:19:52
Speaker
Yeah.
01:19:52
Speaker
Are you keeping the theme of Stern?
01:19:55
Speaker
If you're doing Stern, maybe a Deadpool.
01:20:01
Speaker
Jurassic Park in this lineup.
01:20:03
Speaker
Okay.
01:20:03
Speaker
Let me see.
01:20:04
Speaker
Well, okay.
01:20:04
Speaker
So you have an Elwin, you have a Borg, you have an Eddie, you have another Borg and you have a Richie.
01:20:15
Speaker
So yeah, I think you have two Borgs.
01:20:18
Speaker
And so I would, I'm saying go with the Gomez, go with the Deadpool.
01:20:23
Speaker
I think I'd get Deadpool.
01:20:25
Speaker
Or get the medieval madness because that's apparently what you enjoy on the back wall there.
01:20:31
Speaker
Yeah.
01:20:31
Speaker
And that's even the Brian Eddy banner.
01:20:35
Speaker
That's the translation.
01:20:36
Speaker
You mean the Brian Allen?
01:20:37
Speaker
Sorry.
01:20:37
Speaker
Brian Allen translate.
01:20:38
Speaker
That's what I have in my game.
01:20:40
Speaker
Yeah.
01:20:42
Speaker
Yeah, I'd probably get Deadpool if you're sticking with Stern.
01:20:47
Speaker
But obviously Medieval Madness is my family's favorite.
01:20:50
Speaker
So stop moving.
01:20:53
Speaker
Yeah, I don't blame you there.
01:20:54
Speaker
Speaking of which, I'm actually kind of updating all my stuff.
01:20:57
Speaker
I sold my giant mnemonic and my Earthshaker and picked up a Guardians Pro.
01:21:03
Speaker
I'm going to go over this really quickly.
01:21:05
Speaker
Really enjoying it.
01:21:07
Speaker
I didn't realize how easy the game is, though.
01:21:09
Speaker
I don't know if it's my skill level.
01:21:11
Speaker
I don't know if it's just I'm getting in the groove with it.
01:21:13
Speaker
The rubber banes on the outlands.
01:21:15
Speaker
That's what it is.
01:21:17
Speaker
My 10th game, I dropped 1.9 billion on the game.
01:21:20
Speaker
I finished the game.
01:21:22
Speaker
I have not been to save Xandar yet.
01:21:24
Speaker
Sorry.
01:21:24
Speaker
I haven't completed all the way, but I did do the Emulsion Initiative, I think is what it's called, and completed that.
01:21:31
Speaker
Apparently, when you complete that,
01:21:33
Speaker
if you haven't gotten all the modes 100 so it's like you got to get like the double supers and orb and root multi-ball if you don't do those things when you finish emulsion it drains you and says game over and congratulates you so at 1.9 billion i was like oh i'll finish up this mode and then i want you save xandar and the one it drained out and was like you're done i was like oh okay
01:21:58
Speaker
I am really enjoying it.
01:22:00
Speaker
But just to let you know, for those that are maybe of a less skill level, I think you really love this game in your lineup.
01:22:06
Speaker
So you're going to say, I'm going to like it.
01:22:08
Speaker
I think you're going to love it.
01:22:09
Speaker
It's a really fun game.
01:22:10
Speaker
It definitely is a Borg.
01:22:12
Speaker
The shots feel like they should.
01:22:14
Speaker
The ramps don't feel like it.
01:22:15
Speaker
They come right back at your face really quickly.
01:22:17
Speaker
Yeah.
01:22:17
Speaker
Yeah.
01:22:17
Speaker
I don't know why it is about Borg and putting ramps in the weirdest spots, but they just don't feel like they should be where they're at.
01:22:23
Speaker
You know what I'm saying?
01:22:24
Speaker
Mm-hmm.
01:22:26
Speaker
I think we should wrap it up.
01:22:27
Speaker
Yep.
01:22:29
Speaker

01:22:52
Speaker
If you did get items from flipping the script on autism and you have not received them yet,
01:22:57
Speaker
Everyone is either shipped or is preparing to ship.
01:23:01
Speaker
So I'm getting a lot of emails.
01:23:03
Speaker
People have received their stuff.
01:23:04
Speaker
I'm getting emails of, I haven't heard anything.
01:23:06
Speaker
I promise you your items are leaving their areas.
01:23:12
Speaker
I know Stern's still working on getting, they donated a lot of stuff, guys.
01:23:16
Speaker
It was ridiculous.
01:23:17
Speaker
And thank you again to Stern and to all those that donated all that amazing stuff.
01:23:23
Speaker
Yeah.
01:23:24
Speaker
Once again, we'll see you in two weeks, right?
01:23:27
Speaker
See you in two weeks.
01:23:27
