Introductions and Setting the Stage
00:00:00
Speaker
What if we need the spell, Nix? What if we need it? then if ten minutes go past and he casts it. When this will starts to sound like the other will. and Low
00:00:41
Speaker
Hello everyone and welcome to this week's episode of the Fellowship of the Tabletop. We are a live play 5e D&D podcast set on the Erith High Seas.
00:00:51
Speaker
I am the semi-muted Callum, playing the Warforged Artificer Alpha. Joining me is our creator of Chaos, Ian, playing the Warsalor Nyx Carell. Hello!
00:01:01
Speaker
We have the everything is flammable Will, playing the Dragonborn Druid Baal Valcom. Aw, yeah. We have somebody who needs no introduction. And we have the proprietor of our proportion, the rhythm of our rowing and the wind in our sails, Dungeon Master Danny! Bonjour! Callum have inspiration, because we weren't sure who was going to start this when Mark's not in the episode.
00:01:24
Speaker
I keep preparing me now, just in case. Great. I'm here as well, just as an FYI.
Ol'Gel's Visionary Experience
00:01:29
Speaker
You're the one that needed no introduction, so there you go. yeah um We move, and we find Ol'Gel rushing through a darkened forest, clothes slightly torn. He trips over a protruding branch, dropping his crystal ball, which slowly rolls on the ground in front of him as visions begin to clear.
00:01:48
Speaker
My glasses, my glasses, I can't see without my glasses. of ass, motherfuckers. They got the first strike in, but the severed compass retort with an almighty hull shot. Baal releases his wildfire spirit with a napalm strike on the enemy ship, and the Nyx plunges them into darkness, like some sort of war crime.
00:02:07
Speaker
They ram the back of the compass, but they actually come off worse, and then they take some more cannon fire, blast in their back doors open. Nyx puts them on their last legs while Alpha gets the kill shot.
00:02:19
Speaker
As the ship's sinking, the sailors jump into the water and their souls are devoured by the spider who swims. Nyx tells Bal and Alpha about the deal that he won. Bal plays with his pearl of power to give his friend some aid. Alpha makes the whiny Bal a chair for the helm, and Tharok makes a kick-ass stew. And the Nyx proudly surveys the scene, and he notices that liquid's starting to ripple on the ship as if... Like some sort of T-Rex is stomping closer. And then the surface of the ocean seems to break and split as a colossal black figure breaches the ocean. And it's a ship. It's the fucking flying Dutchman. No, it's not. It's the Esmeralda. Some sort of ghost ship style motherfucker. Ethereal figurines on the ship. And they board our ship. And they're all like, oh, we're here for the last voyage of the Esmeralda. And they are here to sing its song. And they need a captain. No other people. Who could that captain be? Well...
Naval Battle with Severed Compass
00:03:15
Speaker
It's gotta be Nick, surely, and after a big discussion, he decides, yep, fuck it, I'm leaving this ship and I'm captain of the Esmeralda, bitches!
00:03:26
Speaker
The last light of dusk bleeds out across the horizon as both the severed compass and the Esmeralda drift and into an uneasy stillness.
00:03:37
Speaker
Anchors plunge into the dark waters below, chains rattling out into the deep with a final echoing clang that seems to carry further than it should. No one says it aloud, but no one trusts the dark.
00:03:55
Speaker
Lanterns are lit sparingly, watches are double. The sea, although calm, feels wrong, too watchful.
00:04:06
Speaker
The Esmeralda, there draped in this shroud of webbing and cold bioluminescent glow, looms nearby like a half-remembered nightmare. And yet, exhaustion wins.
00:04:21
Speaker
One by one, the crew settles. The ships creak softly in the night, rigging, whispering in a wind that never quite arrives. Somewhere in the distance, far to the north, a low roll of thunder mutters across the water.
00:04:36
Speaker
or perhaps not thunder at all.
00:04:42
Speaker
Morning does not so much arrive as bleeds in. A pale grey light sleeps over the wave steeps seeps over the waves, revealing horizon choked with distant storm clouds.
00:04:55
Speaker
The air is heavy. Salt hangs thick on the tongue. The sea remains unnervingly calm. Then, A voice cuts through the minds of those aboard these ships, sudden, urgent, unmistakable.
00:05:13
Speaker
The magic of a sending spell. It's Syengar. It has begun. Trace has revealed the Princess Stone. Tolkelon's legion has surfaced.
00:05:27
Speaker
Even at this distance at sea, you can feel it. The distant thunder swells. Not thunder. Not cannons. War.
00:05:40
Speaker
The legions of Tolkelon have arrived on Erith's shores. There is no time to turn back.
Telepathic Strategies and Humor
00:05:48
Speaker
Whatever is unfolding across Aerith, whatever forces now pour through those portals, it is already too late to stop.
00:05:54
Speaker
Your course remains unchanged. North, towards the sound of guns, towards the heart of the Shadomendian fleet, towards the flagship, the Lion of the Sea, where Uriand Cardenal waits at the helm.
00:06:15
Speaker
spread over two ships now.
00:06:19
Speaker
What do you want to do?
00:06:23
Speaker
Farrakh will very calmly, having heard that, just look at Alpha and Baal and for the first time seem in awe or perhaps overwhelmed at the situation. And then he'll just take a deep breath and go, the plan doesn't change.
00:06:41
Speaker
You're on Cardinal Dij today.
00:06:45
Speaker
Absolutely. right Alpha, can you send a message to Nyx? Have you got that ability? Use a pointy message-y thing?
00:06:57
Speaker
Just checking the rules. ah ah Yes, I do have some minor capability, although he's his is far stronger than what mine is. Well, I know. I just want you to message him to fuck my brain. ah Make a connection. to You know, like mind fuck me. you know Make the connection. He can connect to people, can't he, telepathically? If he's on that ship, he's a captain.
00:07:21
Speaker
I'm the captain of this ship, obviously. He can connect to me and we can, you know, captain, oh, captain, talky-talky, and organize our ships, his ship and my ship, together.
00:07:32
Speaker
So communication, okay. That is most logical. yes. Can I... I'm assuming I can see a vague direction at least with the Esmeralda and... yeah it's about 80 feet off your port side.
00:07:45
Speaker
Cool. This has a range of 120 feet. was just going to point towards Nix's general direction and i just whisper a message.
00:07:56
Speaker
Baal wishes to communicate with you, Nix. I believe you can mindfuck him, as he has so eloquently put.
00:08:08
Speaker
do i Can i reply on your message? ah You can reply in a whisper that only I can hear. Yeah, that sounds about right.
00:08:22
Speaker
Yeah, so I'm guessing you're seeing what I'm seeing. And one moment. How far is Alpha from me?
00:08:33
Speaker
About 80 feet. 80 feet off your starboard.
00:08:41
Speaker
fact That would have been good to do before I left the ship.
00:08:49
Speaker
Just seeing if I have any. No, it's all powered by you, this Alpha. um Yeah, what's the plan? I mean, do I make the plan? There's two captains. Which captain is the... ah ah You know what? Does he want me to be the Commodore?
00:09:06
Speaker
I will then turn to Barl. Nick seems to be confused. I believe this is going to be something of a um three-way communication between myself, you, and Nick. Oh, you're the third?
00:09:19
Speaker
Oh, he doesn't actually... we Okay, no, we we can try it. i mean but But I thought, why isn't he fucking my brain? Why is he... What? what I hope he'll go to the side... Barl will go to the side of the ship and just put his hand to his mouth. by Nick!
00:09:32
Speaker
Yo! And he'll point to his head. Do the thing. can't do the thing. You're too far away for me to do the thing. Get closer. Spin your dicks. I'll spin my dicks. Let's get closer and do the
Nyx Commands the Ghost Ship, Esmeralda
00:09:44
Speaker
thing. Okay. Sounds like a good idea. You. No, wait, actually, ah I don't want the ships to collide. Perhaps not. Farrah will just go, oh, for fuck's sake. Look, I think how I understand this works. Is of that you most you are acting captain now, Barl? he trying to talk to me? I can't hear him. No, I'm talking. No, no. Alpha, tell him I'm talking to Barl.
00:10:06
Speaker
Dix, Tharok is talking to Baal. a Okay. So what I think happens is... What's he saying? He's trying to explain what he thinks happens, but I'm not sure. He's not getting very far. He keeps stopping in the middle of a sentence. I'm stopping because... Anyway, I'm going to fucking carry on now. Shut the fuck up. That was rude. Words I never thought I would say. Anyway, Baal. That was rude. I didn't say anything. Sorry, I was talking to Tharok, not you.
00:10:32
Speaker
right What happens, but I believe, is that if Nyx was to come back on this ship, he would resume the position of captain. So technically, he is in control of both ships if he's in proximity. fuck that. This is my boat. I've got a chair. Tell you what, Alpha, when I need to send a message to Nyx, I'll ask you to send it on my behalf.
00:10:49
Speaker
That way I turn it you. Wonderful. i'm glad we're paying I'm glad we're really taking the shells gate opening really seriously. going to bring the ships closer! no No need! No need! Mix is spinning hard right on the ship.
00:11:03
Speaker
Is this the first time you're holding the wheel of the Esmeralda? Yeah! The bioluminescent figures that are on deck with you
00:11:19
Speaker
When your hands are on that wheel, it's as though you can see out of your eyes and out of the 80 or so figures that are on board with you at the same time, almost like you have spider eyes. What the fuck?
00:11:35
Speaker
And you are able to manipulate the sails. You are able to load and fire the cannons. You are able to walk on deck. You are able to be everywhere at once as long as your hands are placed on that wheel.
00:11:48
Speaker
My God. Guys, I'm having an out-of-body experience. I am the ship. What's he saying? I'm the ship. He's having an out-of-body experience. I think he said he needs a shit. Nick, you should have done that before we started. We need to go.
00:12:02
Speaker
Tell... Fuck it. How do i make this thing go? Let me know when I'm within 30 feet. Okay. Are you kind of slowly ebbing it Yeah. you youre fire If I am like all eyes, this should be super fucking easy for me because I should be able to have one of my spectral crew look out over the edge and just through their vision, almost like parking sensors with cameras, just get this ship moseying alongside 30 feet should give me ah decent, I should be able to connect.
00:12:36
Speaker
Yep. Yep, it's easy enough to maneuver with your proficiency. Amazing. So when I am 30 feet with you, I'm going to use my wonderful trait, Awaken Mind, and I'm going to connect to Baal.
00:12:53
Speaker
And now, as I move the ship away, we're good for three miles.
00:13:02
Speaker
and So the the whole crew just watches this kind of spider webbed ship come towards the severed compass To then veer off again. Hey, guys!
00:13:13
Speaker
Good to see Do you miss me? Just shout. Fuck, Nick. Don't shout. I was talking to everyone else. Hi. Sorry. I thought this would have been a good idea to do before I left, but i forgot. it been. whole, ship coming back from the dead, spectral crew. i My mind wasn't where it should have been, but I appreciate you using Alva. That's okay. Yeah, it's not a problem. We're good for, like, it distance now. Like, three miles.
00:13:35
Speaker
So, we're good. Okay. Well, then, should we... Well, I guess, what ah but what's the command I give for the people to make the the boat go? what one ah just Do I say go?
00:13:47
Speaker
Avast, sail, everyone's going, the ship's going. like what Yes, I know, but I want them to drop me i'll make it go faster. hold There are about a dozen eyes, Bal, just looking at you on deck waiting for any instructions. He'll kind of put his finger up to the air even though there's no one there. Hold on.
00:14:04
Speaker
Avast motherfuckers, drop the big thing down, make us go forward a bit further, faster. ah We've got someone to kill and catch. Hoist the mainsail. And hoist the mainsail. Yeah, there we go. And ah ah weigh the anchor, see how much that weighs. And then Tharok, your cannon boy, ah still, you've still got that job.
00:14:25
Speaker
Alpha, you've you still you got you what whatever you did last time, do this, I've got the dicks. You do your thing. um Make sure we don't sink. Tharok, It's on you. we' we got We've got this.
00:14:35
Speaker
We've got Avast. As Baal ends up, you're just going to see Alth go, you heard the captain? He's just going to crack the whip with as much ferocity as what he can muster. And with that being produced instantly, Maris pipes up with, aye aye sir!
00:14:49
Speaker
And all of the ship animates into full activity. Sails are loosened and you continue. ah Almost Baal... In an instant of making that call, a few seconds for it to get kind of translated via via Alpha and Alpha's gesture, um the ship is ah thrust into speed of acceleration again.
00:15:08
Speaker
And sailing parallel in and low wind at the moment, there isn't a strong wind in and either direction, northward you head into... um about three or four miles to your north is stormy weather it is there it' is cloudy there is a low fog and you are sailing through debris of ships that have been kind of um attacked wrecked and destroyed at sea and as you're slowly kind of navigating that bar and nix kind of in unison like two perfect kind of
00:15:42
Speaker
parallel skis almost through this water. um And I imagine while that connection is going, Nyx, you're able to kind of issue instructions. And as long as Bell, you're not actually going against them, we'll kind of treat Nyx's proficiency as the the kind of guiding hand here. So Nyx, could you make a survival roll with advantage here, please? I've got the better survival. fuck.
00:16:06
Speaker
But don't have the proficiency, say i do but not with a boat. Yeah. Well, how about a fucking 20, natural 20 for a 22? Fuck you, Baal. Boop, boop, boop, boop.
00:16:17
Speaker
That's right. I could have made that a 30, but never mind. but You make really good pace as you're as you're moving through this debris. And what's interesting is you're kind of sailing over it. Occasionally, kind of small bits are knocking against the ship, causing kind of superficial damage. But the kind of berg equivalents of like mass clumps of timber that's floating that would kind of danger or impale the ship it or the hull in any way, you are easily able to point out, give Baal an appropriate direction and just kind of move like... to synchronize swimmers through this very kind of um wooden minefield, as it were.
00:16:58
Speaker
And this continues unbroken for a few miles. And as you are heading slowly more north, between the sound of thunder erupting and cannon fire and that smell of salt and ash on the wind, you feel yourself getting ever closer to conflict.
00:17:18
Speaker
And the ships you're passing, there are orange sails. there are There are bodies in the water not moving ah with orange armbands on.
00:17:29
Speaker
There are also members of the Shadomendian Navy. The Shadomendian heraldry is is kind of awash on um different bits of this debris and sails coming through, flags coming through of the androsphinx and the gynosphinx sigil of of ah the kingdom of Shadomend.
00:17:52
Speaker
You navigate that terrain with that role perfectly well. but you are now entering to that period where your visibility will be somewhat lost as you're going into, into, uh, these kinds of stormy misty, uh, uh, waters.
Captain Vargasch's Parrot, McCaw, Guides the Crew
00:18:08
Speaker
And just as you're kind of standing on the edge of that clear skies behind you, parrot, a parrot comes flying in the direction of the severed compass.
00:18:23
Speaker
about currently about 250 feet away, but it's spied by whoever's in the crow's nest.
00:18:31
Speaker
And shouts down to you, Boll, as first mate.
00:18:37
Speaker
Just regular parrot? but Mechanical parrot? Spy parrot? Looks like regular parrot, sir.
00:18:51
Speaker
Parrots on the sea, is that a usual thing or do we need to be worried? Just talk to the thing. Cool.
00:19:00
Speaker
Talk to the, talk, to just talk to the parrot? Yes. I think I can do that. And in this time, he's now kind of approaching the severed compass and kind of glides in between the two sails, lands and perches itself on the the balcony, that have the railing in front of you, Baal.
00:19:19
Speaker
Cool. Just squawks. what right Parrot, do you know the common tongue? Or...
00:19:28
Speaker
what ah One second and barr will kind of breathe smoke out into his hand and it will form the shape of a parrot. He'll breathe it in with a shot.
00:19:39
Speaker
Car speak with animals on himself. Sick. That's such a good use of that. Well well played. Tip of the cab. And... Parrot, yes, we can communicate now. Oh, hi.
00:19:56
Speaker
i bring tidings from Captain Vargasch. And is he a goody or a baddie? Which side's he on? My captain He serves at the pleasure of Lord Vossan Good, and he'll say in the common tongue Is one of Vossan's parrots Captain Vargasch Captain Vargasch Of the hangman Of the hangman The hangman Yes hang man the hangman yes
00:20:28
Speaker
He sent me with a message. Oh, go for it. You are to follow me as I lead you straight through the Shadom Indian Navy. m
00:20:42
Speaker
We have been engaging them through the night. The Lion of the Sea is on the run. Fleeing.
00:20:56
Speaker
Can Barl make an insight check towards a parrot? Tempt it. And does Nick's hear everything going you hear through? a No, I don't think so.
00:21:08
Speaker
I'd be surprised. so you're hearing Barl's one-sided impression of this. It's a 12 overall.
00:21:18
Speaker
I'm going to put a flash of genius onto that one, so I'll have a plus four. Nice. 16. sixteen You're not sure a parrot has the intelligence, wisdom, or charisma to pull off deception.
00:21:34
Speaker
In fact, you're you're convinced they're not really capable of doing that. Okay.
00:21:41
Speaker
And you're just going to want lead us through the armada to where
00:21:46
Speaker
where his ship is, are you? I'm a dev. And what proof do I have? other than you saying all these things.
00:21:57
Speaker
it Begins to regurgitate. No, not on my clothes. No, not on the chair. Catch it. Tharot, catch it. Catch it. Tharot runs up the steps and goes, what am I catching? Oh, fuck. Why the fuck are you getting me to...
00:22:16
Speaker
Oh. Sorry, Tharick, you might want to wash your hands. Has this fucking parrot just shicked on my hands for no fucking reason? Yes, but don't worry, we're talking. Um... Okay.
00:22:27
Speaker
So, no Oh, fuck talking. Tharok will draw his sword and go, I'm going to fucking extinguish this stupid fucking bird. Please don't. One second. It leaps. It leaps off the rail. He'll talk back in the common tongue to Tharok. Tharok, just hold on, please. It's a parrot. It belongs to Vossan. Well, one of Vossan's men. It's saying that it can lead us safely through this shitstorm ah to try to get to the line of the sea, which is apparently on the run.
00:22:51
Speaker
Is it telling the truth? As far as I can tell, i don't think parrots can lie. Arion is running? Well. Sounds like he shoots his ships are fucked. if you Excuse me, I'm going to go wash this fucking parrot stick off my hand.
00:23:05
Speaker
Good idea. and as he's going down the stairs, just point the bird and go, fuck you, bird. And he'll carry on speaking to the bird. So how the hell did... Did they just assume that we knew how to speak to parrots? That was lucky, wasn't it?
00:23:23
Speaker
Yeah. Well, I can show you the way.
Approaching the Lion of the Sea
00:23:29
Speaker
Can you show us to your master's ship? Is it close?
00:23:36
Speaker
Looks over it its shoulder towards the the kind of low mist and the thunder. I could try.
00:23:49
Speaker
Two seconds, he'll hold up a finger to the bird, not in like a flip the bird kind of way, but in like a shh kind of way. And he'll go back to his communication with Nix. Nix, have you heard all that? All my side, at least.
00:24:02
Speaker
I can't hear you, Nick. Sorry. He's too far away. Clearly we can't hear him. Where is it? Let me slap my brain a bit more. Nick, you still there? Yep, yep, yep. I'm here. I'm here. Sorry. the The frequency just dropped. Just a second. ah i'm I'm hearing one side of whatever the fuck you're talking about. If you could give me bullet points, that would be super helpful.
00:24:20
Speaker
Absolutely. Bird belongs to a friendly unit, wants to guide us through the shit in front of us to where the line of the sea is so that we can get to the cardinal quicker. I tried to kind of use my insightful abilities and he seems relatively truthful. Yep. Two thumbs up. to read a about Two thumbs Let's fucking go.
00:24:42
Speaker
Okay. let's Let's fucking go. And he'll kind of but hold a finger up again towards where Nick's is and go, why the fuck am I even do it? Bird. but What's your name, Bird? Macaw.
00:24:53
Speaker
Macaw. I love it. McCaw. Well, I'm Balvalcon, captain of the Severed Compass. No.
00:25:04
Speaker
What do you mean, no? No.
00:25:12
Speaker
Captain of the Severed Compass. No. Who the fuck are you, Bird? it Bird sounds smart. Shut up, Nix. You're saying that I'm not the captain. No. I'm the captain now.
00:25:24
Speaker
Ugh. what is it that what what What do you want from me, bird? McCaw? Follow Well, yes, I know, but why are you saying no? See myself if you said Dixcurell, the captain Raises a wing and points the other ship There we go!
00:25:38
Speaker
Captain's over there How the fuck does the bird know What the fuck is this? Smartest fucking bird Okay Ship Deckhands Motherfuckers Prepare to have asked after this bird
00:25:56
Speaker
And it just kind of struts its stuff for a second, beats its wings, does a little nibble under its um ah wing, picks out a little insect, gobbles it, turns and flaps and kind of loops around the severed compass and then kind of sits itself slightly ahead of the ship and to off its port side,
00:26:22
Speaker
so that it kind of sits in between between forming a triangle, if you will, at the point of where and both ships would meet if they were looking forward. So you kind of move as this triangular piece through the mists.
00:26:36
Speaker
Farok is coming back up the steps and he'll go, fucking shat on me, it insulted you, please tell that thing to shit on Alpha. Well, tell you what, if it betrays us, you can take its head and beak and whatnot.
00:26:49
Speaker
so You can roast and cook it. Can you? Ah, I've never tried cooking a parrot before, but fuck it, why not? Things shat on me. I'll shit it out when I'm fucking done eating it.
00:27:01
Speaker
You've become vulgar, i love it. I know. well Well, what's being around such fine company, I suppose? And he'll look down at the deck. ah we like well so i did Also, i I fired the cannon twice yesterday and missed. and The only thing I managed to successfully hit was my thumb hitting the ship, so I'm a little bit cranky. want to hit something today.
00:27:19
Speaker
well not subject yeahp On subject... It's super important, remember, that we don't let Euron Cardano fall to the bottom of the sea. We need his corpse.
00:27:31
Speaker
Yes, well, I can become a dolphin now and Nyx can breathe underwater, so worst case scenario. As can I. It sounds like it's just you, Theric, that's fucked up here then. I can make that i can make him breathe if he needs.
00:27:44
Speaker
Nyx says he can make you breathe if he needs. That's shit all very well and good, but I think we should try and kill Euron on deck rather than sending him into the ocean. And then we need that key, and it needs to go in my orifice.
00:27:59
Speaker
The Pocket Portal. What's going in, you orifice? The key, darling. That's your point. if we If we were to, now we're getting slightly ahead of ourselves, but if we were to like do this portal thing in the water, wouldn't we just bring them all through from the hills and they'll just drown? So we definitely want to do this on deck.
00:28:16
Speaker
ah don't think it would do everything, it? There are limits as to what the portal can actually sufficiently transport. As long as the key goes through, there could be a certain amount of water, but it would break eventually.
00:28:30
Speaker
Part part of this conversation. Mix is getting bored and wants to go. be fair, I am getting rather antsy about killing Ureon. So, yes, I would very much like to make haste.
00:28:44
Speaker
Wonderful. And also, Alpha, last thing. If you do find a crew member that's got a nice hat to go with my chair for the fight, Mix has got one. I think if if we're both captains now, it makes sense. We're supposed to look the part. I could offer something as a temporary solution. Perfect. And...
00:29:01
Speaker
I'd completely forgotten about this until this parrot has flown over, but I've forgotten I made Darren's old parrot that he got a homunculus for myself, and I just left the fucking thing alone.
00:29:12
Speaker
So I'm just going to pull out of my satchel this mechanical parrot that's battered, bruised kind of thing, um and just offer it to you. and It's moving, and it's flapping its wings and everything.
00:29:26
Speaker
It's not a hat, but fuck, I'll take this. Perhaps it's your own that may be able to also shit on Varrock again. I don't want it to shit on me, but that's good to know.
00:29:40
Speaker
I don't want it to shit on me. and Thanks. Anyway, now I'm bored as well. Let's fucking go. join this You've got a hat, Nix. I've got a parrot. Eat shit. Nix has just called over mentally one of these spectral ghosts towards him. So, what's your name?
00:29:53
Speaker
How long have you been working on this shit? but I mean, I'll just say this once and don't mean offence. Just, you know, don't walk through me without warning. Have the decency to say coming through. You'll see the severed compass pulling away. Oh, shit! Finally!
00:30:12
Speaker
What's interesting is as you attempt to have that exchange of one of the kind of ethereal beings, it just reciprocates everything you're saying and gesturing back as though you are all of those things and yourself.
00:30:26
Speaker
Whoa. So as you're speaking, it's saying exact same thing like a mirror. As you're moving, it mirrors everything.
00:30:35
Speaker
Uh, no drifting dead or not. You've got work to do. As he points across the ship. And about 80 in complete kind of stereo say those same words around you.
00:30:49
Speaker
Try not to fall through the deck this time. 80 voices like yours different pitches say the same line instantaneously. If you haunt it, you can handle it.
00:31:04
Speaker
The same happens. Nick, say, I'm a sexy motherfucker. Just just try it. I'm a sexy motherfucker. Nothing happens. Jokes. Oh, God. Jokes.
00:31:15
Speaker
The same. Okay, right. Anyway, yes, you, the glowing one, take the rigging. Follow. Follow. And Nyx is just talking to himself. It's great. And you you head into the mists now and your visibility is significantly and reduced so much so that the Esmeralda the Severed Compass are pretty much the same dimension of vessel that the Esmeralda now sits a little bit taller.
00:31:41
Speaker
um From your kind of control positions at the helm, you can't see the end of your kind of figurehead. That's how thick the the mist is. You're relying on kind of people being positioned at the front of the ship to see that little bit more beyond. But you you can't see particularly well.
00:32:03
Speaker
the thing you can see and you're kind of taking your guidance and your steer from is the parrot that's flying in between both vessels and what's becoming increasingly more aware in your senses, um, all yours probably earlier because your passive perception,
00:32:18
Speaker
is that the sound of kind of cannon fire and and thunder is not restricted to just your doom north now. It's kind of your east and your west, your northeast and your northwest, that that there is skirmishes happening in lots of different directions and you're you're moving into the heart of this very slowly.
Navigating the Chaos of Naval Battle
00:32:37
Speaker
And certainly kind of that that's given more credence by the fact that the the debris that you can see in the water now it's still a flame at certain points, it's still got smoke kind of bellowing off it. um
00:32:51
Speaker
the The sort of metallic taste in the air is even thicker now. And occasionally you can just hear screams and cries. And when the wind just pulls southern so south southward, you can hear the clanging of metal.
00:33:08
Speaker
But this is happening all around you. And you continue to pass through vessels that belong to the pirate fleet, vessels that belong to the Shadomendian Navy. It's unclear, having not known what numbers exist of either of these two forces, who is winning here. and You're just seeing combat. You're just seeing the kind of discards of combat.
00:33:31
Speaker
And it's really difficult terrain. It's really difficult terrain maneuvering here. And you have to kind of be a half sail for fear of ramming into something, um, without, uh, wanting to do this too ridiculously. And the parrot kind of adjusted, adjusts speed to temper that.
00:33:47
Speaker
And you're moving through this very difficult environment for maybe an hour. And at this point, those sounds of, of, of fighting are now behind you as well. You are in almost the eye of the storm hearing this from all around.
00:34:04
Speaker
After another half hour or so, you've kind of lost track of the sun at this point because it's so dense. The rain begins to pick up and the wind begins to pick up too. And you're're you're fighting against the breeze now, so you're slowed down even more.
00:34:19
Speaker
But in the occasional breaks in that weather, you're hearing nothing to your north. There is fighting to your east, fighting to your west and fighting to your south, but it's sounding clear again out north.
00:34:34
Speaker
As you move through the mist, the rain continues, but the mist begins to lift.
00:34:41
Speaker
You emerge into an awful scene.
00:34:48
Speaker
From your three o'clock right round to your nine o'clock are vessels, boarding vessels in your distant kind of um fields of view.
00:35:01
Speaker
Clearly, heavily facing losses is the Shadomendian Navy. Vossan's pirate fleet is outnumbering every vessel in your in your kind of field of vision three to one.
00:35:15
Speaker
that And the certainly as you're moving into this clearer visibility, the bodies that you're seeing with stab wounds through the middle of them in the water are wearing Shadomendian colors.
00:35:28
Speaker
There must be three, four, five ships here that have been destroyed with about the same half dozen being boarded and currently facing encounters. And there is just rising smoke and rising flame all around you. So this already kind of parched red sky from the steel nightmare has this kind of demonic look at the sea level as so many of these kind of timber fires are are kind of spread out around the the top of this ocean.
00:35:59
Speaker
But one small window due north still kind of is clear and seems to be your heading. You're still fighting that wind. But while you're kind of following this parrot and able to see a bit more clearly now, but immersed nonetheless in an incredibly significant naval battle, Nick's the biggest you've ever seen.
00:36:24
Speaker
Is there anything you do in this moment?
00:36:28
Speaker
There are hundreds of bodies in the water around you.
00:36:34
Speaker
ah Just keep eyes on the parrot and with every way it moves, Nix will just kind of imitate it on the wheel of the Esmeralda, simultaneously adjusting the sails to take what little wind it can, manipulate it around the bodies and the wreckage um as, as much as you possibly can. But the, like the bow of the ah Esmeralda would be pushing things out left and right as it um kind of makes its way through.
00:37:13
Speaker
Nix's cheery kind of. Cavalier attitude does change somewhat to more of a somber,
00:37:24
Speaker
and distinct mindset of getting himself prepared for any kind of attack that would, ah would, ah inflict damage on the Esmeralda or the severed compass and using all 80 eyes on the ship, trying to peer through the darkness. He'll pick one and transfer his kind of his mind essence into one of the eyes.
00:37:46
Speaker
and see that it's foggy and cloudy. So it instantly zip over to another pair of eyes to see if there's any break in this cloud, this fog, all the smoke and smut that's coming from all the wreckage of ships.
00:37:59
Speaker
He's trying to ah all at once check on the Severed Compass, check on the Esmeralda, check the heading, check to see if there's any cannon fire. Is that a sound of cannons? Where's that coming from? And his mind is constantly dipping and zipping into each 80 of the crew of the Esmeralda as he's just all at once trying to navigate the ship, find Uri on and keep everyone safe.
00:38:24
Speaker
And with 160 eyes at your disposal, Nix, you can see all of these things at once as long as your hands are on that wheel. And definitely with that much information, being able to be kind of processed by you at any point, I need you to make a wisdom kind of saving through just to kind of not feel mentally fatigued by how much information you're having to... it's a That's a savvy 27.
00:38:48
Speaker
you you remain composed throughout all of this and and unfaltered in in your attempt as you are trying to read every single square meter around your vessel and around your husband's vessel, uh, as well as your heading and as well as this scene
00:39:09
Speaker
with that as well.
00:39:14
Speaker
all of those bodies in the water as you kind of observe a bit closer and more regularly are slowly being wrapped in this bioluminescent kind of glow.
00:39:27
Speaker
And one by one, very slowly, you just notice like stars going out. Like there's there's so many bodies to see here. You'd have to really be focused to see it. Bodies just being pulled gently to the depths as the spider who swims is feasting.
00:39:45
Speaker
Yeah. Nick's kind of 160, 80 spectral spirits just kind of nod with that knowledge of and expectance of that happening and a slight shake as it does take hold.
00:40:03
Speaker
And as you kind of sail through it, pace at which those bodies are being pulled to the depths of the ocean gets quicker and quicker and quicker.
00:40:18
Speaker
Anything happening on the severed compass?
00:40:23
Speaker
You've done well so far, Bird. McCall, thank you for your honesty. think we need to be ready to man the cannons at a moment's notice.
00:40:36
Speaker
Yeah, Farrakh's gone round the deck and has just passed on the instruction several times. Be ready to use those cannons. Do not use them unless we're fired on first. We save whatever ammunition we've got in there for Euron. And it would just go round multiple men, just making sure that people are primed to use them if we need to defend ourselves. But otherwise, these cannons are to be kept in reserve for the fight to come.
00:41:01
Speaker
Ba will also kind of sit up from the chair or standing forwards on the deck somewhat. We'll just say, motherfuckers,
00:41:11
Speaker
when we get to the fight with the Lion of the Sea, it's going to happen. We're not trying to sink it. We need to board it.
00:41:23
Speaker
We'll pummel it as much as we can, but we need to get on board. We need to take out their captain, hand to hand.
00:41:37
Speaker
Once we've done that, by all means, drag it to the depths.
00:41:42
Speaker
Just wanted you to be aware.
00:41:47
Speaker
And the Osrin sailors that you sail with, immediately on that, begin to chalk up the cannons and raise them a few degrees higher.
00:42:00
Speaker
In their angle. Others go and prepare melee weapon provisions and begin to sharpen, begin to load throwing spears and cutlasses on deck in preparation.
00:42:14
Speaker
And Marish just comes up. So we're to aim for the sails then, Captain. Immobilize it.
00:42:22
Speaker
If that's what we do when we board ships. He's looking round at Alpha Tharok. Kind of peering into his own mind. Nix, that's what we do, right? We take the fucking sails, right?
00:42:34
Speaker
Yes, always take the sails, stop them for Yes, Maris. We take the sails. He tries to project confidence. We take the sails. We do some damage to the hull.
00:42:45
Speaker
We get in close. And Fitzurian's ship. Get ready to... Get ready to... You know... Fuck a bitch.
00:42:59
Speaker
Yes. Storm the ship. The ship.
00:43:04
Speaker
Avast motherfuckers. Avast motherfuckers. I love you. I said thought thought you were done and then I love you too. That last roll. ah Excuse me sir.
00:43:15
Speaker
What? That'll do. I said I love you. Yes, I said I love you Maris. nick Maris. Who's Maris? Thank you. What? I know who Maris is.
00:43:26
Speaker
Maris, bear with me. He holds a finger up. and he'll turn back away as if he's taking a call. Nix, that was fucking amazing. Love you, babe. Question for the Dungeon Master. As as we're going by, Farrakh is just looking at these Shadow Mendian ships. Do they look pretty uniform? Because Farrakh has only seen the one ship Shadow Mendian ship before, which is the one we saw yesterday. Are they all pretty similar in design?
00:43:48
Speaker
Yeah, yeah. the the They look incredibly carbon copies of the ship you fought yesterday. Farok will go to Alpha and go, perfect memory, yes?
00:44:04
Speaker
Somewhat. You're the only one here who's seen that ship before. you need to let us know when it's when You need to let us know when it's in sight. I believe the person in the crow's nest would see it far sooner than I would hopefully, but if I do catch eye, then yes.
00:44:21
Speaker
Believe me, people will know.
00:44:27
Speaker
Fair enough. I suppose we are following the parrot as well. forgot the and And on that, the parrot slows and descends and lands back with near you, Baal.
00:44:39
Speaker
You've been following it for for a few hours, you might have to recast. ah ah Can I have ten minutes? I can do this. Can you continue sailing north, or do you stop, or what do you do?
00:44:53
Speaker
let's slow our ourselves down a bit pass the message on would you one of you alpha whatever it is just need to make a little circle of some fire and do some more of my kind of huffing and puffing and shit but if i can save my energy to you know keep you guys alive through the fight that's about to come i shall uh and he'll go about the process of the 11 minute cast time or another time yeah The weather is getting worse. The thunder is getting more.
00:45:17
Speaker
The intervals are getting shorter. The rain is getting heavier. You're having to kind of shout at each other over the sound of crashing thunder and sheer kind of weight of the rain hitting these vessels.
00:45:31
Speaker
And everyone just watches and waits as this ritual is prepared over 11 minutes. but And the the parrot is just there kind of cleaning itself. to All 80 members of the Esmeralda are shaking their heads.
00:45:46
Speaker
What if we need the spell, Nix? What if we need it? then if 10 minutes go past and he casts it. When this will starts to sound like the other will. Low blow ah Yeah. And then when it's when it's ready, he'll puff a parrot and... that McCall, yes.
00:46:09
Speaker
right Through the storm. And just with a wing gestures to continue north. Oh, fuck. couldn't have just written that on the floor or something?
00:46:21
Speaker
um do not know how to write. Of course not. You're You've done well. leading us that You're off, are you? do Does anyone have an anyone have a parrot treat? Stop him, Mimit, please. Stop him and um Yeah, stop. wait Wait. I'm just wondering, to save this in the future, perhaps we could um etch some form of compass into the deck of the severed compass, and if we need a change of direction, the parrot could potentially land on the direction we need to go?
00:46:49
Speaker
no shit. i'll Save you ah sorting out the old... um well, puffing situation. Yeah, Puckett, let's do that.
00:47:00
Speaker
I would advise informing the Parrot of this, otherwise he might not know of the situation. Yeah, that's a good point. at Parrot, if I was to draw a compass on the floor, do you do you understand what a compass looks like? I've seen one, but I don't know what to do with it.
00:47:13
Speaker
Well, fuck it, never mind. Thank you for your help, Parrot, McCaw. You've been a great help. um If you had find us again, if we all survive this, I'll buy you a Parrot beer. Right.
00:47:25
Speaker
We'll see you at the end.
00:47:29
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah, we will. The captain won't be far behind.
00:47:35
Speaker
Good. He looks for the crown. Ah, yes, we'll have that crown. Don't you worry about it. We haven't forgotten that, have we? Alpha, Tharic, Nix, no.
00:47:47
Speaker
haven't No, of course not.
00:47:52
Speaker
but beats its wings and heads southeast towards one of the dueling ships in the far distance behind, well, adjacent to the misty weather.
00:48:04
Speaker
Nice parrot. Nice parrot. It says go north through the storm. That's where we need to be. And yes, just in case we forgot, let's take the crown as well as the key.
00:48:17
Speaker
I put the crown in my bag. yet Yes, i am I'm aware of the crown. We shall not we shan't forget it. Good. Good. I've asked some more.
00:48:30
Speaker
You continue then? Full speed. Full speed. I'm the captain here, not you. Full speed. As he said, whack.
00:48:45
Speaker
I'm rather growing fond of this. I see why Marota liked it so much.
00:48:53
Speaker
So, you continue heading northwards through this thunder, and this thunder it resolves into a rhythm eventually and becomes disciplined, like the beating of a drum. It kind of grows around you and becomes a constant rhythm.
00:49:11
Speaker
That continuing flash to your south of that relentless cannon fire rolling across this kind of smoke-charred horizon with this rain penetrating.
00:49:23
Speaker
Through this haze, a vast silhouette slowly begins to emerge on your far northern horizon, immovable amid this chaos.
Encounter with the Lion of the Sea
00:49:40
Speaker
the Lion of the Sea.
00:49:43
Speaker
Now, she dwarfs the Severed Compass. She dwarfs the Esmeralda. This is a warship of brutal scale and authority. Her hull is banded in iron and scarred by countless battles that she has survived rather than suffered.
00:50:01
Speaker
She has tiered gun decks that line both of her flanks, capable of unleashing staggering broadsides that make the sea itself recoil.
00:50:13
Speaker
Further up, she has these immense slate-gray sails that snap in a controlled fury, trying to capture the best parts of each gust of wind.
00:50:25
Speaker
Around her are smaller vessels burning, sinking,
00:50:34
Speaker
and at her prow, no mere ornament as the figurehead, but a great androsphinx and gynosphinx couple that seemed to be carved out of this pale, worn, barnacled stone, their wings folded, the claws gripping the keel in a kind of eternal vigilance.
00:51:04
Speaker
It's unclear at the moment If they've spotted you.
00:51:11
Speaker
Alpha will shout out without hesitancy. Lion of the sea, ho! i think I did that right.
00:51:22
Speaker
Let's man the cannons.
00:51:29
Speaker
Yep, yep, Savvy, I see it. ah She outguns us a bit. Yep. Be careful of that broadside. you want to yeah We don't want to get into a firing match with that. That will rip our ships apart. We need to be smart, attack from behind, try and get out in front maybe, but do not engage broadside. Get her up the arse.
00:51:53
Speaker
Right. Our best bet is to get close enough to take on the take on the deck. We need to man their deck. We need to get our sailors over on their side.
00:52:06
Speaker
The expense of our ships?
00:52:11
Speaker
Well, we could always take that one back. Is there any way that we can do a...
00:52:19
Speaker
Maybe it's a bit stupid to even suggest it. But... Go on. If we were to get our ship at speed behind and and some of us disembark to get on board...
00:52:32
Speaker
I just... I think a single run, a single okay flyby of one of them will fuck us. You... You... You're the quicker the ships.
00:52:44
Speaker
Go broadside. don't know what broadside means. Oh, run up there portside. Which one's the port?
00:52:57
Speaker
As you're facing, you want to go right.
00:53:05
Speaker
And run your guns out. Everyone on the left side. So put all my cannons to the left.
00:53:18
Speaker
Run out their right.
00:53:22
Speaker
I got this. I'm going to... I said it's the final song, right? This ship. I'm going to run up Nick's special.
00:53:37
Speaker
they I will, but they won't know what's coming. Get ready to catch me. I see anything. Tharok and Alpha, can you both make perception checks, please?
00:53:55
Speaker
Alpha with 12. Tharok will take his passive of 14. As you're both kind of not privy to this conversation, and Alpha, it makes sense that your eyes are keenly locked onto the line of the sea, given the stakes for you.
00:54:08
Speaker
You notice it's beginning to rotate. And it is slowly turning itself to face the south where both your vessels approach.
00:54:22
Speaker
So let the DM hurt us! Alpha will shout it out. The ship's turning! okay We don't have long. Do they need their sails to turn? Don't attack the sails. No, well I'm just thinking if we if we can get rid of the sails and stop them turning, then we can can just fuck them front and back.
00:54:42
Speaker
ah We won't be able to them from the front or the back. You'll be relying on one cannon. Well, shit. Okay. Perhaps getting on board is not too bad of an idea.
00:54:55
Speaker
Just get close. Do a ride by, all cannons, left-hand side. You take the left, I'll take the right. We'll split and we'll see how much of their crew they've got. If we can take their crew and split it in half, we might be able to do some damage. We'll use numbers on our side. No ramming. You take what is now starboard and I'll take port.
00:55:21
Speaker
Put your cannons on the left and go straight. Right, motherfuckers. cannon I'll put my cannons on the right and I'll go straight. Cannons to the port.
00:55:33
Speaker
Yes. All cannons on port. Yes. Yes. He's fucking got it. We're going to count down at the same time. We're going to move as one and then we'll fire as one. You can hear me. We can do this. Issue the command and we'll splash them as we'll hit them from both sides. Really, this is our best chance.
00:55:53
Speaker
but get ready to send men over. Get everyone on the ropes. As we fire, you want a good volley of men to jump onto their ship. Pick your best, get the volunteers, sort it out now, get Tharuk to get the troops together.
00:56:09
Speaker
Right. And he'll relay that ah to Alpha and Tharuk and also just say, and Marek, if I'm gone, if I go down, or if I get on their ship,
00:56:22
Speaker
You're the captain. You take this bitch where it needs to go.
00:56:29
Speaker
Maris, sir, but... Aye, aye. I was going to say that. Yep. Maris, thank you. Fuck. There's a call from the crow's nest that's brought in the dwarf, just shouts, Sir.
00:56:45
Speaker
Sir, something's happening. I don't believe my eyes.
00:56:51
Speaker
And as you... I'll turn your attention back, I imagine, northward to look at the lion of the snee. The snee? The sea. We're all doing it. The figurehead, the coupled androsphinx and gynosphinx,
00:57:09
Speaker
is not an inanimate object, but an androsphinx and a gynosphinx as they begin to unfurl, separate,
00:57:23
Speaker
from the ship ascend and these large celestial creatures less than a mile away depart from the ship and the ship looks kind of more buoyant as they leave there's a big kind of bounce and ricochet as these two weighty creatures curl out from underneath it and beeline for your vessels
00:57:54
Speaker
And as they're flying at great speed now, the gynosphinx skirting her claws along the tops of the waves, the androsphinx about 60 feet above her.
00:58:09
Speaker
They get to within maybe half a mile in seconds. Is there anything you'd like to do? Yes. Farok will come down the deck. He'll see this. And what he's going to do with the meat is he's going to draw his sword and he's going to ignite his sword. And he's just going to say to Alpha as he comes past,
00:58:29
Speaker
That fucker over there has been looking for you since day one. If it becomes abuse to get in his fucking head, literally get in his head with a message and let him know where you are. We might fucking distract him. And then he'll turn to the crew and go, there's fucking monsters coming to fuck us. I say we fucking kill them first. Avast and hold your weapons.
00:58:48
Speaker
To arms, cunts. And he's going to move to the front of the ship. And he's just going to, with this flaming sword, go, fucking come at me, you fucking flying cat fucked.
00:59:00
Speaker
Make persuasion or intimidation check. If we had a swear jar for Tharok, we'd be golden. Fucking loaded, man. He's already given us so much gold, but we can get more out of him. get to have my strength for that I'm doing angry barbarian stuff. At least you're saying it in the microphone.
00:59:17
Speaker
Seven years? Thirteen. Thirteen. Thirteen. ah Bar, go ahead and when we get there, roll advantage on initiative. Oh, shit.
00:59:28
Speaker
How far away from the ship are we at the moment? Away from which? are right away Away from the line of the sea. Less than a mile. Less than mile. About half a mile from these two colossal celestial creatures flying towards you.
00:59:41
Speaker
I really like Tharok's idea. So just kind of let me know when we're in like 120 foot range. It might be it might be might be a while, but yeah, just see if you can remember. Well, you remember. I don't remember what I did this morning. I've got chance.
00:59:57
Speaker
And, Val, what are you doing? ah Just quickly saying in his head to Nyx, do we spin the ship parallel on, all four cannons blasting?
01:00:15
Speaker
You're going to get swarmed. Tharic's got the right of it. Prepare for your ship to get boarded. i have to do the same with mine. Stay bedhead full speed ahead because we still need people on the cannons. So we're going to take the hit from the skies, but you still keep going north.
01:00:36
Speaker
Cannons on port. When in range, fire cannons at the lion. Let's go.
01:00:46
Speaker
Anything else you're doing on the Esmeralda, Nix? I don't know. What? ah Like, if I go through all my eyes and all my spectral beings, how armed am I at melee combat?
01:01:00
Speaker
Just you and your bare hands. Love that for me. There are 80 Nixes. ah as as as you see it do I get the sense if I pass into one of these spectraels and I oh while we're doing this um yeah fuck it let's try this so Nyx is going to quickly just push himself into the spectral being at the bow of the ship and he's going to ah see if he can view one of these spectral beings how far is it
01:01:35
Speaker
um Sorry, as in the one the two sphinxes
Battle Preparations and Attacks by Nyx
01:01:38
Speaker
flying towards sorry. He's putting himself in the spectral being at the bow of the ship and he's going to choose, ah he's going to look at one of these. At this moment, about half a mile.
01:01:47
Speaker
So you have you have a few minutes. Okay, cool. um
01:01:53
Speaker
I'm going to just try it now just because, you know, it's going to send an Eldritch Blast while in that spirit and that spectral kind of entity will hold out what would be a hand and a Eldritch Blast fires. Now, does it fire from the back of the ship at the helm or the bow of the ship?
01:02:13
Speaker
From the bow the Oh shit. You hear in your head, Bala's Nix is like, Oh, I've got my own cannons. and Both hands are the spectral being. Just fucking raise up. As soon as that, I want to hold an action. As soon as they come in within 120 feet, I'm fucking blasting them.
01:02:33
Speaker
And what's interesting here, Nix, is as these two celestial creatures are hurtling themselves towards your vessels, And you kind of, you, Nyx, firmly place your hand upon the wheel, but you you you look through the eyes. You close 158 sets of eyes, and you look through the two at the very front of the ship in that moment.
01:02:57
