Speaker: Hello beautiful soul and welcome back to another installment of the Growing with Sol podcast where we explore the moments and stories that shape who we're becoming. I'm Marisol and this is where I love to have real conversations about growth, self-discovery and learning to put yourself first.

Speaker: Whether we are diving into books that change our perspective or unpacking personal experiences that teach us something new, this podcast is for women who are done playing small and are ready to embrace their own journey.

Speaker: So if you've struggled putting everybody else first or battled self-doubt, you are in the right place. This isn't about perfection. about the messy, beautiful process of growing into yourself. So come grow with me.

Speaker: in today's episode I'm talking about self-care, but not like in that highfalutin little like we're talking about it like in the ether, in the ethos, you know, the conversations up here in the clouds.

Speaker: Because I feel like when oftentimes, like I feel like when we often talk about self-care, It's in this vague understanding of what it is. Like we all say self-care. We all kind of know what it means.

Speaker: We all kind of have images of what we think self-care is. But then it's like there's always this air of it's going to be a lot of work, but it's going to be worth it.

Speaker: And why does self-care always have to be so fucking difficult? I don't think it has to Unfortunately, often it is, especially if like me, you used to deal with depression or maybe you still deal with depression.

Speaker: are I still have like, I don't know. i feel like I picked up some bad habits when I was depressed, okay? You know? But we're working. We're working. we're We're doing the things we need to do to take care of ourselves, okay? We're what we're working on it.

Speaker: But when it comes to self-care, there are definitely things that I do that is the self-care that maybe we wouldn't think of it as self-care but it is and it is an effortless way to continually taking care of oneself So let's get into it because you deserve to have self-care in an effortless way too.

Speaker: The first one. The first one is one that I started doing for myself when it came to just like my hair appointments. Okay, my hair, little trim, little trim, a little hair appointment, change up the look.

Speaker: That's what I've been doing. And the thing is, i started doing it that way because... Just, you know, my hairstylist, she's a busy lady. Okay? She has a lot of clients.

Speaker: But secondly, i didn't have to think about it anymore. If I just knew, boom, done, great. Less stress for me. But then... But then my sister told me that she does the same thing at doctor appointments.

Speaker: And I was like, okay, mind blown. So that's something I need to start doing for doctor appointments too. And what is this thing? Scheduling it right away. Schedule it day of. You are leaving, schedule the next one.

Speaker: Every single time i get my hair done, i get my little haircut, a trim, whatever, fix up the bangs. They need fixing right now. But every single time that I go to my hairstylist and the appointment is over, i schedule the next one out.

Speaker: Every single time. even Even this next time, I scheduled out two appointments because my friend is getting married. want my hair to look nice. So I scheduled out a bang trim and then I scheduled out like an actual trim for all of my hair.

Speaker: Okay, I have two appointments coming up within this next year. But normally I would only have one. That is a form of self-care. Schedule it right away because i dont know what's going happen. You're going to be done with your appointment.

Speaker: months are going to go by you're going to be like oh I need a haircut my looks horrible I'm bored my hair I want to something different with it getting too long have all these dead ends if you would have scheduled your appointment back when you were last there for however long you want to go it would have been done you wouldn't have to deal with it it's just like automatic at that point you just boom boom boom and I have been scheduling out my hair appointments with my same stylist for years now I've been going to the same stylist back when I had a pixie cut and I was growing it out.

Speaker: Look at how long my hair is now. Okay. I wish it was longer. I'm working on it. Okay. But I've been scheduling out. So she's been seeing me. She has been seeing me every like.

Speaker: Every three months, every quarter, every quarter, she's been seeing me for like years now. Oh my God. Anyway, do that with Dr. Boyman's too, okay? My sister tells me that she schedules out her physicals a year in advance.

Speaker: I need to do that too. Okay? Okay. Do that. Second thing that I do that is effortless self-care is making time for the things I enjoy.

Speaker: i do recognize that for me, it's very easy to do this because I literally could just... roll over and read my book. Because that's what I love to do. That is what brings me joy, okay?

Speaker: I love to read. I also love to dissect and analyze and go crazy. The part of me when it comes to reading and that crazy part that loves to dissect and analyze and then dissect again and reanalyze is also just like going on TikTok and then the algorithm feeds me everybody else who's like having their crack theories about all the books that I'm reading. i love it.

Speaker: Which actually I just finished reading Eternal Ruin. The algorithm hasn't fed me any crack theories about Eternal Ruin.

Speaker: need to find them. Who else is in love with Susenios and Taj? Because I am. I'm in love with Susenios and Taj and nobody on TikTok is talking about it. Anyway, check out my TikTok because I'm going to be talking about them soon.

Speaker: Clearly, I need to add content on on the platform in the universe about them. Anyway, that's what I love to do. I love to read. And it's easy for me. It's very low effort to just, you know, close the laptop, pick up the book or my e-reader.

Speaker: Your hobby might not be as effortless, but what can you do to make it more effortless to incorporate it into your daily, weekly life? would say daily. You deserve to have fun every fucking day. So what can you do in a daily capacity that brings you fun and joy?

Speaker: Because you deserve it.

Speaker: The third thing that I do that is self-care. Well, let's go back. Let's go back one second because I feel like I just said it. I told you to do it. But let me tell you why.

Speaker: Let me tell you why you need to make time for the things that you enjoy every fucking day. Yeah, because you deserve it. But also life is meant to be enjoyed. We are on this planet. Shit's crazy.

Speaker: There's only so much you can control. But you know what you can control? How much fun you're fucking having. You get to control that. And you know what? Fun is an important part of our mental health. Everybody talks about self-care. Everybody talks about doing your meditation, doing your nutrition, going for a little mental health walk, exercising regularly, doing all these things, these big, responsible adult things to take care of yourself and your mental health. who You know what else is going to work?

Speaker: Laughing. Laughing is also going to work. Having fun is also going to work. Finding things that bring you joy and making sure that you incorporate that into your daily life is also good for your health and your mental health.

Speaker: That's why you need to find a way to have fun every fucking day. I make it effortless. doesn't have to be a big thing. Okay, now to the third thing, which is consistent communication with my besties.

Speaker: Okay, it's constant. Well, maybe not constant. i'm not in constant communication. First of all, I have like two best friends, okay, that I've been friends with since like, one since high school, one since college.

Speaker: And... I introduced them. Okay. I had a conniving little mind and was like, hey, two friends from two different parts of my life. Meet. And now we're in that three person group chat.

Speaker: That's buck wild. Not really. But I'm the one sending all the crazy TikToks naturally because I'm chronically online. Anyway, we are in that three person group chat with a crazy name.

Speaker: And we have all become so close that we don't even say hi. Like that's the type of level of friendship that we have. So being in consistent communication, maybe not every day, but we're in consistent communication, that's is a huge part of my self-care because it is nurturing, facilitating community.

Speaker: It is nurturing that connection with other people. Now, this can be your friends. This can be your family. It can be both because thankfully, I have a really good relationship with my immediate family, my sister, my brother, my mom, my dad.

Speaker: Like we have group chats and then mini group chats and then other group chats. Like, girl, we have all the group chats and we're in constant communication. All the time. Even Mochi, he just barked and he wants to go for a walk.

Speaker: He is expressing his needs to go for a walk and to potty, um which we're going to do right now. But nurturing community is incredibly important for our mental health. We need to have connection. We are social creatures.

Speaker: And I think it's incredibly important for a variety of different reasons. I know I've talked about it a lot on the podcast, but just quickly to name a few, again, your mental health, also having that support system if you're going through a difficult time. Right now, like I mentioned, the world is crazy. Things are stressful.

Speaker: And having people that love you and that you love back around you is incredibly important for just general support. And maybe if you are going through something difficult, they might be able to help you out in a more um tangible way as well.

Speaker: If you have stayed this long, I truly appreciate you. You probably heard my dog barking already. He needs to go for his walk. He needs to do the self-care things too. If you resonate with these, definitely let me know in the comments down below. What are some things that you do that are effortless ways to essentially take care of yourself? These are my three.

Speaker: If I put a little bit more thought into it, maybe there are more, but these were the first three that really stood out to me. I'm curious what maybe some effortless ways you do for self-care. And then of course, if this resonated with you, if you stayed this far, I truly appreciate you.
