Speaker: Hey guys, how are you doing?
Speaker: Welcome back to the Salman Karachi podcast.
Speaker: Alright, we're live.
Speaker: We're not live, I'm live right now.
Speaker: But by the time you listen to this, this won't be live.
Speaker: Poof!
Speaker: Like a lot of other things because of the pandemic we're going through.
Speaker: Ooh, we started dark today.
Speaker: I think every time I have to podcast, I get into this dark zone and I'm like, get out of it, Salman.
Speaker: Get the fuck out of it.
Speaker: Stop doing it.
Speaker: Stop doing it.
Speaker: How can you not?
Speaker: We just lost Bob Saget.
Speaker: I'm so depressed.
Speaker: I'm not going to lie.
Speaker: It's depressing.
Speaker: It's really sad.
Speaker: I don't know why I'm so sad.
Speaker: You know, sometimes I just think we shouldn't be this sad for a celebrity I've never met.
Speaker: Just someone I know through TV and film and just someone who entertained me in my childhood.
Speaker: I'm so depressed.
Speaker: But I don't know personally, right?
Speaker: You just think you know these people personally.
Speaker: Although, sadly, the last year or so, I started following his Facebook page.
Speaker: And it was really cool.
Speaker: He was such an upbeat guy, at least on social media.
Speaker: But who isn't, right?
Speaker: Everybody's having a great life when it's through social media.
Speaker: Everybody is having a great.
Speaker: on social media.
Speaker: Yeah, but I don't know.
Speaker: He just sounded like a nice guy and he was doing stand-up.
Speaker: I was actually looking forward to perhaps having something released by him soon and get to see it.
Speaker: Although, like a lot of people, if you watch how dirty he gets in his stand-up, it's a little jarring if you're the type of person who's grown up watching his TV stuff.
Speaker: And but it was sad.
Speaker: Sixty five.
Speaker: And it's upsetting.
Speaker: And like I said, shouldn't be upset about some celebrity dying.
Speaker: But here we are, all of us.
Speaker: And it was really interesting to see how many people posted about him and comics and people in my own circle and friends and
Speaker: and how he impacted their life and how much they're upset by that.
Speaker: Pretty shocking.
Speaker: He looked like he was young at heart, still doing stuff out there, still relevant in a lot of ways and really cool and it's sad.
Speaker: It's really sad, man.
Speaker: I am down because of that.
Speaker: It's...
Speaker: He was such a great guy.
Speaker: But I also think, you know what I'm really worried about at this point is I just hope no one comes out and makes accusations against this guy.
Speaker: Like we've already lost one American dad, if you know who I'm talking about.
Speaker: And that kind of shit, like just my whole childhood just being destroyed one after another.
Speaker: It's getting to me.
Speaker: And I want that to stop.
Speaker: So if you have some accusation to make against Bob Saget, please don't do it.
Speaker: Don't do it.
Speaker: Just for this collective sake of all those people who are just mourning right now.
Speaker: And I know this sounds wrong at some level.
Speaker: Like I'm all for coming out and telling the truth.
Speaker: And, you know, but I just I don't want you to do it if it's about Bob Saget.
Speaker: It'll be like we're losing him twice, you know, and I don't want that.
Speaker: So please don't do it.
Speaker: Please let us remember the fun time we had watching him parent some kids and then and then bring us America's Funniest Home Videos.
Speaker: Oh, man, that was something, wasn't it?
Speaker: Back then it was.
Speaker: I know a lot of people call it the original YouTube before it happened.
Speaker: Yeah, it was so great.
Speaker: It just made me more than anything else.
Speaker: It made me want to hold a camera and record stuff.
Speaker: Although, if anything, that show should have been a deterrent to recording stuff.
Speaker: But but just made me so interested in in film work, camera and whatnot.
Speaker: And Bob Sacco is just amazing on it.
Speaker: And both shows I just look forward to.
Speaker: So in Saudi, they would broadcast these two shows in Ramadan.
Speaker: So right after we opened fast, for those of you who don't know, Muslims fast from morning till dusk.
Speaker: And then we had a big iftar is the meal you have at the time of opening, at the time you end your fast.
Speaker: And
Speaker: And right after that, the Saudi channels, the one Saudi channel that broadcast English shows at that time, it would broadcast Full House and then America's Funniest Home Videos in a row.
Speaker: And it was the highlight of my year almost, you know, to get to see that and watch it all together with all my family members.
Speaker: We all...
Speaker: We all, you know, sat together.
Speaker: So I guess I guess it's so emotional, though, not just to show itself, but the feeling around it that you just don't have that nowadays, man.
Speaker: I don't even watch shows with my wife a lot of times.
Speaker: I just watch shit and then we discuss it later at our own convenience.
Speaker: And same thing with my siblings.
Speaker: You know, we're watching Dexter, my brother and I, and he's ahead of me.
Speaker: And he's like, hey, have you watched the final?
Speaker: I need to discuss this.
Speaker: But we don't sit together and watch shows anymore, right?
Speaker: Who does, I guess.
Speaker: And it's a sad thing.
Speaker: in a way it's sad.
Speaker: I know in some ways it's shit because you just, you know, as a family, what are you doing?
Speaker: You're sitting together on some sofas, not having a conversation, but just staring towards one direction and, um, watching some actors put on something, but, but it, it's, you know, that's a really bad way of looking at it.
Speaker: Like you shared laughs, you shared, um, the story being, uh, shown in front of you.
Speaker: And, and those times, uh,
Speaker: I don't know if any families do that now.
Speaker: I wonder.
Speaker: I wonder if families take time to do that.
Speaker: If you do, if your family does, I'd love to know.
Speaker: I'd love to know.
Speaker: And what...
Speaker: And what do they do?
Speaker: And I'm not talking about like sports day and all that kind of crap.
Speaker: Like I'm talking about proper entertainment, like watching TV, just sitting together and watching TV.
Speaker: Maybe we occasionally go to watch a film together.
Speaker: Maybe that's about it.
Speaker: I don't know.
Speaker: Occasional barbecue.
Speaker: I mean, I do meet up with my family all the time and we have dinner and everything together.
Speaker: But not like there was something magical about it.
Speaker: Maybe it was all of us together.
Speaker: And that's why it was important and fun and a great memory.
Speaker: And it was something we could all watch and not cringe or something.
Speaker: Although, mind you, I've watched a few episodes of Full House lately and some of it hasn't dated well.
Speaker: Not in a bad way.
Speaker: dirty way or something just not maybe as funny but still very intriguing yeah yeah and then that family I mean those guys probably feeling a bit too I guess it was interesting to read about how they kind of stayed in touch and the kids and and then well Bob Sagan and everybody
Speaker: So it sounds a bit more wholesome than a lot of other shows.
Speaker: And you probably know which show I'm referring to every time I say something like that.
Speaker: The Cosby's.
Speaker: The Cosby Show.
Speaker: Bill Cosby.
Speaker: Fucking hell.
Speaker: Had to go and spoil it for the rest of us.
Speaker: Our childhood and everything and our memories.
Speaker: Tainted forever.
Speaker: Anyway, it's like you grow up drinking something, eating and drinking something, and then finding out it's not good for you.
Speaker: It's full of shit.
Speaker: It's full of poisonous stuff.
Speaker: Oh, I have had that happen to me.
Speaker: It's called Coca-Cola and Pepsi and fast food.
Speaker: Oh, dear.
Speaker: What kind of life did I grow up in?
Speaker: Like, what are the times you grew up in?
Speaker: I wonder, when that happens, I do wonder...
Speaker: And I wonder if what things will this generation look back and go, holy shit, I can't believe we used to do that because we've got loads of it from my time.
Speaker: We've got loads of it.
Speaker: There's the food, there's a drink, there's a smoking on the airplanes.
Speaker: What the hell was that?
Speaker: Smoking around kids.
Speaker: A whole lot of smoking everywhere.
Speaker: And I recently was in a bar to do a gig again.
Speaker: And I forgot, you know, it'd been a few days.
Speaker: And I went with someone who, a friend of mine, Zulf, a fellow comic.
Speaker: He came down from Canada.
Speaker: So I took him to do a gig.
Speaker: And he was like, fuck, everyone's smoking in here.
Speaker: And I realized, I was like, yeah.
Speaker: Because in Dubai, anywhere else you go, like malls, public spaces, you don't have smoking.
Speaker: But pubs and clubs are the only places where they still allow smoking indoors.
Speaker: And it's bizarre as hell.
Speaker: You smell bad and you're just wondering, like, why is this still happening?
Speaker: Why hasn't someone stopped this, you know?
Speaker: It's one of the things that slipped through and no one's noticed or the smokers are like, shh, don't tell it.
Speaker: We don't want to talk about this.
Speaker: We don't want this band.
Speaker: So it's probably the cigarette lobby getting one, getting a win there.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: So, you know, that's how did I get to talking about smoke?
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Oh, yes.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: So I was just wondering what else would we had crazy stuff.
Speaker: We had we had kids unbuckled in seats.
Speaker: And anyway, so much stuff that we look back and go.
Speaker: That was stupid.
Speaker: How could we do that?
Speaker: And I'm pretty sure there's stuff going around us right now that we will look back and go, oh, wow, I can't believe we did that.
Speaker: I cannot believe people used to do that.
Speaker: But I wonder what that would be.
Speaker: Well, some of it is easy.
Speaker: Some of it we're already stopping.
Speaker: And I guess it's still part of our generation, which is about...
Speaker: using plastic so much and pollution and whatnot.
Speaker: I really wonder what's something that we are doing right now that we think is okay.
Speaker: No one's really thinking about it.
Speaker: Everyone's just kind of doing it and it's not in anyone's imagination that this thing is bad for you.
Speaker: And yeah, I really want to know what that would be.
Speaker: I wonder what that would be.
Speaker: If you've got any ideas on that, put it in the comments because I want to compile this list and then present it and go, this is what this generation thought.
Speaker: In 20 years, if this podcast is still going and the internet is still going, then I'll release it and go, this is what the people thought in that time.
Speaker: would be okay.
Speaker: And it's not.
Speaker: It was crazy.
Speaker: That would be fantastic.
Speaker: Man, you know, the only thing, I almost don't want to say it to jinx it.
Speaker: The one good thing that's going on with all this Omicron stuff going on again and Bob Saget dying and other celebrities dying and whatnot.
Speaker: And workstop.
Speaker: And I think the one good thing that I'm really enjoying right now is the Chicago Bulls.
Speaker: It's it's that's one thing from my childhood making a good comeback.
Speaker: You know, I don't want to jinx this.
Speaker: The Rosen and team like these guys are doing such a great job.
Speaker: I'm really enjoying watching basketball.
Speaker: right now and supporting a team that's winning again.
Speaker: I'm a Jordan fan.
Speaker: I grew up on the Chicago Bulls.
Speaker: So out of any team, if there's one that I kind of have an affinity for and liking for, then it's the Chicago Bulls.
Speaker: And it's so exciting to see them
Speaker: be exciting again, you know?
Speaker: So it's good.
Speaker: And I hope they go deep in the playoffs.
Speaker: I'm looking forward to that.
Speaker: You know, I hope it's not just a crazy, crazy streak or just a thing.
Speaker: I mean, you know, he's being talked about being an MVP and stuff.
Speaker: So
Speaker: Hey, pretty exciting.
Speaker: That's one good thing.
Speaker: Please do not jinx this, guys.
Speaker: Please do not take this away from me, universe.
Speaker: I want this to be a good season and I want them to do well.
Speaker: And not just this year.
Speaker: I think give me a few years of this and I'll ignore the other shit Mother Nature and the universe has thrown at me.
Speaker: So, yeah, let's make this happen, man.
Speaker: The bulls are my...
Speaker: my outlet, my one win, I guess.
Speaker: So keep them winning.
Speaker: Keep them winning.
Speaker: No, that's great.
Speaker: You know, a couple of weeks ago, I did an event for crypto and I just thought Bitcoin kind of dipped again and it's been going down and people are talking about the crypto crash might happen or it might have run its course.
Speaker: And obviously, you know, just panic selling and all that.
Speaker: And I don't believe that.
Speaker: I think there's real value in this digital currency.
Speaker: Maybe we don't know what it's going to be like and it's going to develop into something.
Speaker: But at the same time.
Speaker: If you're investing in crypto or you're interested, I can tell you a bit about it.
Speaker: I kind of understand it.
Speaker: Kind of.
Speaker: All right.
Speaker: I probably don't.
Speaker: But I think I do.
Speaker: It's one of those things where you think you're like, yeah, I got this shit.
Speaker: And then you actually don't have any clue.
Speaker: But the thing about crypto is I feel like the whole thing around, especially the NFT stuff, it sounds like a pyramid scheme to me.
Speaker: You know how they're all like trying to get you on it and buy it.
Speaker: And if you buy it, then everybody else will buy it.
Speaker: And and the language around it and the way they're promoting it, it just signals to me.
Speaker: And I've been around a few pyramid schemes.
Speaker: It just signals to me.
Speaker: I'm like, this sounds like it's going through a phase of a pyramid scheme.
Speaker: And I think in some ways, everything is a pyramid scheme.
Speaker: Anything that's selling is a pyramid scheme to some extent of some sort.
Speaker: But.
Speaker: But this one is going through that phase of being a pyramid scheme, especially the NFT stuff.
Speaker: Crypto possibly as well, you know, and the real winners will be the ones who got in early and who have big money to buy in and get on top of the pyramid, if that makes sense.
Speaker: So if you're thinking of investing this year in crypto, do it.
Speaker: I think it's exciting.
Speaker: I think there's money to be made.
Speaker: I've just lost money continuously.
Speaker: I've not made any money whatsoever from it.
Speaker: But I'm getting a little better at it.
Speaker: Well, not losing money.
Speaker: But I'm going to work it out.
Speaker: So I'm going to work this shit out and figure out which bit about this is...
Speaker: is safe, is actually safe in the long run.
Speaker: But right now, it's a pyramid scheme.
Speaker: Take it from me.
Speaker: Not that I know anything, so maybe don't take it away from me.
Speaker: But if this comes out to be true and there's a big crash, then you'll listen to this back and go, wow, Salman was a genius.
Speaker: And if it doesn't, then I'll be one of those idiots who stand out and go,
Speaker: you know, the computer and the internet will not amount to anything.
Speaker: So I'll be one of the two, right?
Speaker: And mind you, I'm saying it's a pyramid scheme.
Speaker: I'm not stopping people from investing in it.
Speaker: I think if you think you can make a quick buck off it, you possibly could.
Speaker: I don't even know why I started talking about crypto.
Speaker: How did I get from Chicago Bulls to crypto?
Speaker: Something triggered it.
Speaker: And here we are talking about crypto.
Speaker: But
Speaker: If you understand it any better, tell me.
Speaker: Because I've heard some people try to explain it to me.
Speaker: And you know what?
Speaker: The other thing that scares me, this is the real bit.
Speaker: Every time there's something like a pyramid scheme or cult or something, people start mouthing the same answer.
Speaker: Right?
Speaker: So it's almost like someone said, this is a frequently asked question or an obstacle.
Speaker: This is what you've got to say.
Speaker: And then they all start mirroring and parroting it.
Speaker: And you go, wait a minute.
Speaker: All of you sound way too alike as the same answer you're giving.
Speaker: So which could be, you know, as I'm saying it, I could just be stupid.
Speaker: I mean, if it's the right answer is the right answer and everybody's got to get the right answer.
Speaker: But when it's a subjective thing.
Speaker: futuristic kind of answer, something based on things that are happening.
Speaker: That's where I'm like, I'm not sure.
Speaker: So you can see I'm kind of debating this myself.
Speaker: I'm kind of arguing between the two points internally because I'm not sure of what it is really.
Speaker: And but just that that particular thing was what I was most like, you know, got my guard up.
Speaker: Because that shit, you're just like, no, no, no.
Speaker: I've seen cults do this, religious people do this, and anyone who's parroting any of that kind of stuff, trying to sell you something is doing it.
Speaker: And there's no harm in trying to sell something if it's good for you.
Speaker: Like, I'd want my friends in on it if it's a great thing.
Speaker: But at the same time, what are your intentions?
Speaker: with my money.
Speaker: All right, guys, that's me ranting this week.
Speaker: If I call it a rant, me just being depressed.
Speaker: I don't know, right?
Speaker: Me just talking.
Speaker: I hope you had a great start to this week.
Speaker: I'll see you guys next Monday.
Speaker: Have a great one and speak soon, guys.
Speaker: Take care and bye-bye.
Speaker: I'm out.
