Apple Conference Highlights: AirPod Pros 3 and iPhone 17

00:00:22
Speaker
We love it
00:00:29
Speaker
so much Keeper Where we talk about it all From superheroes to wrestlers We stand tall Grand Kevin The dynamic duo inside Keeper
00:01:23
Speaker
Hey, going on? Not much man, how you doing Doing alright. Doing alright. Kind of a light show this week. Not a lot of news. Got a few things we watched we're going to talk about.
00:01:34
Speaker
ah First thing, first up, was the Apple conference that happened on Monday or Tuesday. um Always like to bring this up every year. Happens in the fall when Apple announces their new...
00:01:46
Speaker
Phone line up and some of their accessories. This is the first part of probably two or three Conferences are gonna have in the fall. I know there's new Apple TV coming out new Mac books and so forth but Always starts in September with the iPhones, AirPods.
00:02:01
Speaker
ah First up is the AirPod Pros 3. three Big difference on these. ah The big thing on these is, number one, the tips are foam.
00:02:13
Speaker
So they'll fit into your ear better. um I've had foam tips before. I bought them on Amazon. Same. They are very, very cool, how they do kind of stick in your ear.
00:02:24
Speaker
um The other big thing with this is... The translation. If you were in another country and you were talking to somebody and they were speaking to you in real time in another language, the AirPods will speak to you in and translate what they're saying into your into your language, into English.
00:02:45
Speaker
So if you're in Mexico or you're in France and you're talking to somebody and they're speaking to you, um you'll know exactly what they're saying in real time and then you can speak back. And you can show them your phone or they can, I think you i think they can listen to it too. i think your phone can speak to them um and translate in real time of what you're saying to them if they don't have the same. If they do have air AirPods and you both have AirPods and you're both speaking a different language, if you, they actually showed a demonstration. If you talk to somebody.
00:03:15
Speaker
in France, and they talk back to you in real time, you can talk to each other and know exactly what you're saying. um And they'll speak back to you in what what they're saying in France, and they'll know what you're what you're saying in English, back and forth. It's kind of a cool technology.
00:03:31
Speaker
um Very, very infancy of it, but I did want to bring that up. It's kind of cool. And of course, the battery life on these things are getting better and better as well. um Apple Watch... I'm kinda sick of the Apple Watch, I don't know about you.
00:03:44
Speaker
I do like the Google ones, because they're round, they're more traditional watches, but these square watches, like the Ultra one, it just looks like a brick on your wrist. It's a big, thick fucking square panel.
00:03:57
Speaker
Battery life is better on these as well. um the That's the Ultra and then the regular one. um And then the big things was the phones this week. The iPhone 17.
00:04:09
Speaker
um The iPhone 17 is better if you don't want the Pro version. um Starts with a better storage, better camera. um The display is brighter.
00:04:20
Speaker
um The screen itself, they're putting the ceramic coating on there that makes it better if you drop it. Getting to the point where eventually they're going to be doing it so you won't need a a case or a screen protector for these things once once the technology gets better and better.
00:04:35
Speaker
um And the big thing, the big innovation, if you want to say for Apple this year, was the air was the iPhone Air, which is the thinnest iPhone they ever came up with, except for the camera bump.
00:04:48
Speaker
But it is the thinnest iPhone they've ever came up with. um Not as powerful as the Pro, which we'll get into in a minute, but it does have an all-day battery life. It has all the all the cool functions that the iPhone has, but in a smaller form factor that is very, very super thin. And I guess in person, um it does look incredible.
00:05:09
Speaker
But the big thing this year was the AirPod Pro Pro. which probably I'll get into that in a minute. AirProd Pro, which is the new flagship phone, which if I were to upgrade this year, so I'm still on the fence about, um which is what I would probably be upgrading to. They have a really cool midnight blue kind of color.
00:05:30
Speaker
48 megapixel camera which I think has a 8x optical zoom so the thing is going to be better than the 14 that I have now um in a 6.9 and 6.3 for the regular 6.9 for the max all day best battery life that that they took they have this big huge um notch on the top of where the cameras are and that's where all the components for the phone are going Which means the bottom of the phone has more room for battery.
00:05:59
Speaker
And that's exactly what it is. A huge battery in this thing. So it lasts a lot longer. the longest battery life I think they've they said on any any phone. um So if you're going if you're going to upgrade to and to a Max or to a Pro phone.
00:06:12
Speaker
This is the time to do it. The other thing that they debuted, which is getting a lot of flack on the internet, is this strap, this premium strap, because they have new phone cases.
00:06:23
Speaker
They're built with lanyard holes, so you can put lanyards in there, and they have this brand new purse-like strap that you can put on the bottom of your phone case. that looks reminiscent of The Hangover and Zach Galifianakis when they were showing it in the video.
00:06:38
Speaker
It's just kind of a weird... Apple's weird. They have a $20 on their website. A $20 phone polishing is basically just ah just a terrycloth.
00:06:49
Speaker
They sell it for $20 on the Apple website. The shit that they sell and get away with and people buy it is ridiculous, and this is one of

TV Show Discussions: Alien Earth, Peacemaker, and Quantum Unfolding Chamber

00:06:57
Speaker
those things. Although people say that that they actually get their hands on it,
00:07:00
Speaker
um It's kind of cool, and being able to keep your phone like that, keep it connected to you, it just seems like it would get snagged everywhere. It seems like it it would look like a purse, but I don't know. um But yeah, that was pretty much it.
00:07:12
Speaker
I told you off-pod that we're probably go be getting some ah Apple TV announcements coming soon, but it won't be... um a new form factor it'll be just new in interior it'll be faster stronger better um better wi-fi so on and so forth but um we'll talk about that maybe if it comes up i know you were you're up for an apple tv i'm probably gonna upgrade mine um but yeah that was that's pretty much it for that um what we watched this week um alien earth episode eight episode six we have two more episodes left
00:07:43
Speaker
um This is all building up to the most horror um alien movie we've ever seen, where all of these alien creatures that are being kept in and kind of a stasis are running running amok by the end of this episode.
00:07:59
Speaker
yeah xenomorph is The xenomorph is kind of loose There's this eye creature that's in a shape that's running the whole show. And there's these weird, like, locust bug things that are just they have gone crazy.
00:08:12
Speaker
um And they're all about to be loose in this ship where they're being held captive by Peter Pan, little boy kid. um Great show so far. Two more episodes left, and we'll talk about that. That comes out every Tuesday on fx Um, Peacemaker, we got a lot to talk about with Peacemaker. There's a theory, there's three theories, three theories that I, one we missed last week, we're going into totally now.
00:08:36
Speaker
Um, first off, where did the helmets come from? In this episode, Peacemaker mentions, like I think, um, Adebayo asks him, where did his father build the helmets?
00:08:48
Speaker
He says, no, he's not that smart to do that. Um, And he's this is he's like, it's a long story. So where did the helmets come from? Obviously, probably not in this dimension, in the regular dimension.
00:09:02
Speaker
um Did it come from the quantum unfolding chamber? Did they come from in there? I think there's a lot more to the quantum unfolding chamber than meets the eye. We'll get into that at the end. um The Earth to Earth X theory that we missed last week.
00:09:17
Speaker
I heard about it before we got on the podcast, but i didn't have enough notes to get into it. But the big theory is, everybody's picked up on it this week, everybody's talking about it, we're going to talk about it, is this Earth 2 that so Chris Smith is going into, the best dimension ever, there's one obvious part of this dimension that's missing.
00:09:37
Speaker
It would be colored people of people of color at none whatsoever, including there's a line in an episode, I think two episodes ago um about the Kardashians. So there are no Kardashians in this universe. Well, there are Armenians, so they're also included in the no color of this world. So the the theory is this best dimension ever is,
00:10:01
Speaker
Is it the reason why the Smith family is so happy? Is it a Nazi universe? Is it a pro-white supremacist universe where maybe in World War two um Hitler may have won that war?
00:10:15
Speaker
and That's a big theory. and And then this is the future of what happens when the whole entire world is white supremacist-led, Nazi-led. And that's a big theory. um Then going back and watching some episodes and going back and realizing, oh wait, yeah, there's a lot of stuff going on in this episode, in these episodes that could actually put fire on that theory.
00:10:38
Speaker
The other thing is the Sons of Liberty in that episode last week where therere where that big bomb goes off. You're thinking that they're in that they're a group that's just a terrorist group, but maybe they're not. Maybe they're a group that are for peace.
00:10:52
Speaker
They're they're the what's the standing the standing group that's left that are not white white supremacists that are trying to take down the white supremacists. um Everything in that episode was weird. um Everything in this show has been weird, especially with that dimension, is what it's what it's considered.
00:11:09
Speaker
um There's something dark there, and we just don't know what it is yet. That's the theory. The other theory that i heard about this week, with this if this group, if this universe is a Nazi white supremacist group, who is the one character that has debuted in the dcu this year?
00:11:28
Speaker
who would have a field day in a universe full of Nazis. Well, technically last year. Technically. Right, it was last year. Right. But, G.I. Robot, which there was also in this week's episode, there was a Call back to creature commandos when Rick flag says that he broke his back Well, in he broke his back when he fought clay face and creature commandos So we already knew it was cannon, but that stuff is being brought up It is bringing kind of a nod to yeah, that did happen. It's there um Which means G.I. Joe G.I. Robot
00:12:03
Speaker
um could be showing up at the end of this series. We don't we don't know. like There's a theory I heard this week. I wanted to bring it up in case it happens, so we have it on paper. um The other theory that I heard, I'm not sure about this one, was the two Augies theory.
00:12:18
Speaker
Chris's father, he finds the Quantum Unfolding Chamber when Chris and Keith are very, very young. He's in the woods. He finds the chamber. And what happened um Chris in this episode talk are in this series has talked about he feels like he should have been in shouldn' have been born in the other dimension. It just seems like that dimension is more his style, more his life.
00:12:42
Speaker
um He said he would have lived he would have had a better growing up. He would have grown up better in that in that universe, the best dimension ever. Were the two Chris's switched at one point?
00:12:55
Speaker
Did they switch dimensions? Did did the Augie from one dimension the Augie from the other dimension meet each other and switch the children when they were very, very young? Who knows? I heard that theory, wanted to bring it up.
00:13:07
Speaker
The other theory that I came up with today, um I'm sure other people have come up with it by now. The Quantum Unfolding Chamber, where did it come from? That's the big question. and just was showed up in the woods.
00:13:19
Speaker
We see an alien in the beginning of the episode, a naked alien, who Augie kills. um And he has this big big door opening up into the Quantum Unfolding Chamber. But where did this come from?
00:13:31
Speaker
We know that this movie, this this is leading up to Man of Tomorrow. We know that's the next that's what James

Entertainment News: Charlie Sheen Documentary and Watchmen Series

00:13:38
Speaker
Gunn's saying, that Peacemaker Season 2 is leading to Man of Tomorrow.
00:13:42
Speaker
Was the Quantum Unfolding Chamber built by the big bad of Man of Tomorrow? We've been speculating, is it going to be Brainiac? Who could it be?
00:13:54
Speaker
The other theory that I heard, and I know it has a lot lore, you may know more about this as well, um but I know we're going to get into it more with the Watchmen at the end of the month, but when DC bought when d c bought all of the characters from, I can't remember what the what the what the comic book group name was in the It was like Charleston or Charlton? Yeah, something. Charlton, yep.
00:14:18
Speaker
When they bought all those characters, Peacemaker was one of them, who, but we'll get into it, but Watchmen was based off of some of these older characters from Charlton.
00:14:29
Speaker
Peacemaker was the... Who was he in the Watchmen? Like, they took all the characters... He was a comed he was a comedian. So they took the they took the Peacemaker character that was created from Charlton, and they made the comedian.
00:14:44
Speaker
um Rorschach was the question, which you've talked about him before. um And the other one was Blue Beetle. Kord, right? what's his look what's his first What's his first name? Ted Kord.
00:14:55
Speaker
Ted Kord. um The theory that I heard this week was, did the helmets come from Ted Kord? blue We've been talking about it. Could Blue Beetle debut in this show? That would be the o door the opening door for him to show up.
00:15:09
Speaker
Because we're not sure where the helmets came from. We know they came from the Quantum Unfolding Chamber. um did he have a part in building these helmets. right James Gunn said in the podcast today that he didn't have time to put it in this season, where the helmets came from, but he said he has an idea of where they came from.
00:15:27
Speaker
um So yeah, those are the theories. That's kind of where where we're going to leave it off, because episode four was today, episode five is next week, and that's the where the press stopped watching.
00:15:38
Speaker
After that, we're in... a territory where nobody knows anything about this show six seven and eight are are blank to everybody so that'll be great week to week this show has been great i love theories like this i love breaking it down because there's so much could happen um yeah so we'll get into it next week when episode five drops um and it's gonna be a big showdown between peacemaker rick flag senior um by the trailer it looks like rick flag senior uh arrests peacemaker and interrogates him so it'll be pretty pretty cool um yeah we'll get into that um
00:16:09
Speaker
Only Murders in the Building debuted three episodes this week on Hulu. Great show. um There is the doorkeep, the door, the door, can't remember what they call The guy who runs the door of the apartment, he got killed in the end of the last season.
00:16:25
Speaker
So that's what this whole season is about, is who killed him? How did he die? um They're saying it's an accidental drowning, but he was surrounded with blood, so that's not the case. something Somebody killed him, of course. Only murder is in the building, so he was murdered. but um yeah i just love the show.
00:16:40
Speaker
yeah Humor's great in it. The acting is great it. The guest stars are always pretty cool, the ones that they bring in. ah Very centric on the mob this season. um I can't remember his name. Bobby Connevelle.
00:16:53
Speaker
ah he He shows up in this season. He's great. yeah done about yeah He's awesome. you know yeah yeah yeah He's the big guest star. um yeah and It's all mob-centric. and In the first episode, they go to the Godfather house.
00:17:05
Speaker
um It's pretty cool. so yeah it's It's a good show. It's on Hulu, Disney. First three episodes for season five if you want to catch up. um big Big thing we watched this week was a documentary. Did you have a chance to watch this?
00:17:19
Speaker
I've watched, how many parts is it? I've watched the first part. Just two. Okay, okay. You watched the good parts. Because I got, I had an Apple TV issue. Oh, yeah, that's right. I've just been streaming off my PlayStation, which I only have HBO Max and YouTube on.
00:17:34
Speaker
So I just picked up my old Apple TV and watched the first episode. First episode's great. ah The whole show is great. Charlie Sheen, if you don't know, Tiger Blood, all that stuff happened about a decade ago.
00:17:46
Speaker
um Decided to make a documentary on his life. and he Signed it up for Netflix. Very good. so far i'm glad I'm glad you watched the first episode because that was that was basically the beginning of his life, his story, yeah um his career and everything. ah Talked about him being on the set. Yeah, yeah. And the second one picks up with him marrying Denise Richards and all the stuff that happened, of course, on Two and a Half Men, which is great. yeahp The whole entire documentary is fantastic.
00:18:13
Speaker
And Charlie Sheen being Charlie Sheen ah talks about his HIV diagnosis, talks about him kind of being fluid with men and women because the crack. It's crazy. And the story of the crack in this and how yeah his drug dealer becomes a part of the interview at the end, his actual a drug dealer shows up and does interviews and'll in the last part of this.
00:18:34
Speaker
Now, one thing I've always wondered, ever since you did that interview, was it with Barbara Walters, where he's the Tiger Blood interview? Yeah, it was Good Morning America, one of those. Good Morning America. I forget who the interviewer was.
00:18:45
Speaker
Yeah, don't remember. But, and of course they talk about them when they're younger, but do he and Emilio have like a decent relationship right now?
00:18:55
Speaker
They do. Emilio seems like he's, he seemed like he has distanced himself from Charlie for most of their careers. um And don't know if that's just me just seeing them not really working together or Charlie just being a wacko.
00:19:09
Speaker
And Emilio... I think it's all the above. I think it's all the above. And Emilio is not featured in this documentary. He's not second part, is he? No, Martin Emilio decided not to be a part of it. His brother um Ramon, who's not famous, he's the older brother, yeah he was in it.
00:19:27
Speaker
um And a whole bunch of friends. ah Sean Penn, of all people. i would I was shocked to see Sean Penn, but he's been a childhood friend since they were kids. He would probably did as a favor to them. Yeah. yeah But yeah, very good documentary. It's on Netflix. Two parts, about an hour and 25 minutes each. Very, very good documentary. I love documentaries like this.
00:19:47
Speaker
Deep dives into his career and just hearing a lot about his career is really, really cool. But yeah, watch watch it. Definitely watch the second part tonight. Oh, I'm watching as news were done. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, cool.
00:19:58
Speaker
um But the big thing we're going to talk about this week is Watchmen. ah We're in September. It's not the 40th anniversary of Watchmen. It's like 38th. But it did come out it did come out in September.
00:20:10
Speaker
um And we're to talk about it. Watchmen had an animated ah two-part movie that came out. They're on hfield matching Max if anybody wants to watch them. But closer to the comic book.
00:20:22
Speaker
um Yeah, it's basically the comic. Yeah, where Zach didn't want to touch this whole squid ending of the comic book that this animated series did, well what we're going talk about week. Which is probably the why it was made. It was probably the only reason why it was made, because that wasn't actually in the movie one of the reasons why it was made, besides the fact that it just pretty do and whatnot.
00:20:44
Speaker
It's also the one thing of comic book fans that love The Watchmen complain about is that Zack took the easy way out and went nuclear rather than this big, huge, giant squid that shows up at the end of the comic book. He shows up in the end of this as well.
00:20:59
Speaker
Zack decided not to do that. He went with a nuclear route where Ozymandias kind of took the world hostage with nuclear... power rather than dropping a squid in the middle of new york city a super uh dimensional squid but uh yeah animation is great in this reminds me a little bit of what if kind of standard is fantastic standard animation at this time kind of uh this came out 2022 i believe um but yeah it's really really good and it's more comic accurate even this down to the suits everything it's more comic accurate but um if you've seen the watchman movie
00:21:34
Speaker
Besides the whole squid thing, it's basically a shot for shot. What Zack did, a lot of it is... i just um yeah I just remember when the trailers for this dropped and the amount of Zack Snyder's blueprint posts I saw were wild considering it was based on a comic.
00:21:51
Speaker
Right, yeah, yeah. But they credit him with the Rorschach journal and I'm like, that's in the fucking comic written in 1985 or whatever. That's ridiculous, but gotta love the internet.
00:22:02
Speaker
Yeah, i love the internet. So, yeah, I mean, there's not much to say here. We talked about Watchmen last week. It's basically the same.
00:22:11
Speaker
There's a lot to talk about. There's a lot to talk about next week. i've actually on I'm actually on episode... I'm on episode nine. That's how far I got in the last few days. would talk...
00:22:22
Speaker
i would talk about next week I would talk about it today. I have all the notes for it, but I want i want to spread it out. I saw you doing the notes, and I thought maybe we were skipping a week, and you were just going to go for it this week. so awesome fantastic It's fantastic. It's very good. um and Like I said with this, um it's a sequel to the comic book. It's not a sequel to the movie, which is an interesting choice that Damon Lindelof did.
00:22:46
Speaker
um We'll get into all that next week. but um Until then, um let's get into the news.

Film Industry Updates: Trailers, Box Office Hits, and Corporate Moves

00:22:58
Speaker
And it's not a new 7 on the trail roundup.
00:23:02
Speaker
big trailer came out this week for wake up dead man i know you're very excited for this ryan johnson uh coming out on netflix on december 12th but coming out on thanksgiving day in theaters uh limited time which we're probably going to be seeing we are definitely going to be seeing uh trail looks great very very good um i love daniel craig the cast in these movies he does get a great ensemble cast so it just looks great um And we find out who the dead man is going to be. Do you want to give the spoiler who the dead man is?
00:23:33
Speaker
It's Josh Brolin, isn't it? Josh Brolin, yep, Josh Brolin. So yeah, they're they're all figuring out why. And he plays a priest, figuring out why the priest died. So that's the whole story of this. um Wanted to bring this up. Another documentary coming out. It's actually done by the people who did Dark Side of the Ring called Into the Void.
00:23:51
Speaker
ah The Life and Death of in Heavy Metal. Life and Death have in Heavy Metal. I'm talking about a lot of heavy metal stories, which we've been talking about a little bit this summer with Ozzy. The Randy Rhoads is an episode of Randy Rhoads and how he died in a plane crash.
00:24:05
Speaker
There's a there's a Dimebag Daryl from Pantera episode. There's a lot of stuff, cool stuff there. I'm probably going to end up watching this. Unlike Dark Side of the Ring, this is going to be on Hulu.
00:24:16
Speaker
So actually can watch this week to week. Coming out September twenty second on Hulu. So that would be cool. Eight episodes. um The R.I.P. This is the next movie with Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.
00:24:29
Speaker
Coming out on Netflix on January 16th, full trailer came out. saw this Saw a trailer for this probably six months ago on Comic-Con, I believe. I can't remember. I can't wait for this movie. i look true anytime Anytime these two work together, they're great, which is weird because I think they've only worked together a handful of times as far as their production company. on obviously yeah They were obviously in Dogma together, but that was that was they didn't write and produce all that shit.
00:24:55
Speaker
um So yeah, they've only been together in a handful of things, so I can't wait for this Yeah, two Miami cops, and they're they're kind of drug-slash-money finders. I don't know. That's the other thing, too. is it It sounds like a late-90s movie, which I'm always on for.
00:25:12
Speaker
It reminds me a lot of, what yeah, like ah Bad Boys, kind of the book. Boys, something like that. Probably, obviously, there's a lot less comedy, but yeah. Yeah, yeah, for sure. It's going to be good. I love both those guys.
00:25:23
Speaker
This movie I'm not sure about. I love Sidney Sweeney. It comes out on November 7th called Christy. Based off a true story, I don't remember the woman's name, but she was a boxer. Christy. Christy. I can't remember her last name.
00:25:35
Speaker
But she was a boxer woman's boxer. I know Don kate and don King's in this as well. So it's it's all involved in, like, 80s stuff. I'm not really sure. But, yeah, she just she kind of changed her look and everything. So and who knows what this movie's going turn out to be. But...
00:25:49
Speaker
um Trail looked good, so have to wait and see on that. That's it for trailers. Last weekend's box office, The Conjuring the Last Rights, won the box office with $83 million. Hamilton came in at number 10 with $10 million. The movie's been out for five years, so not a lot of people. I didn't even make it to the theater to see it. Yeah, and I was playing that for months. You never even saw it.
00:26:10
Speaker
Yeah, I didn't go. ah And Weapons, number three, 5.3, came out on digital. good I don't know if you had a chance to get it or not. I did get my hands on it. I i found it online and in mysterious ways. But, um yeah, Weapons is a great movie. All of those three are great. Conjuring, I want to see.
00:26:26
Speaker
The Last Rites, probably going watch it at home. um Speaking of Conjuring, The Last Rites earned the biggest opening for a horror movie ever worldwide, $194 million. So, big numbers for them. And putting into...
00:26:41
Speaker
into it on the tracks for a HBO series. ah This is supposed to be the end of Ed and Lorraine, but HBO, of course, with everything, with everything Conjuring-related, are going to milk this until it's dead.
00:26:56
Speaker
Which is all in flux, because we'll be talking about that later. Oh, yeah yeah. Yeah. We'll talk about that in a second. like but yeah This weekend is the Emmys. We'll talk about that, but there were some awards awarded last weekend.
00:27:09
Speaker
Rebel Ridge, which was on Netflix, won for Best TV Movie. Love that movie. good. Pierre became a star and became a Green Lantern because of it. um Documentary, outstanding documentary for a nonfiction special, Pee-wee as himself, great documentary on HBO Max.
00:27:27
Speaker
That was where got lost after the episode. Brian Cranston won his seventh Emmy for his guest star in the studio. The studio that was on Apple TV.
00:27:39
Speaker
Did he win Emmys for Malcolm or is it just Breaking Bad? I think he may have won for both now that you mention that. I'm not really sure. I know for Breaking Bad, of course, but I'm not sure. He obviously won at least three with Breaking Bad, so I didn't know if... I assume he one one or two with Malcolm.
00:27:54
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah, those are the three that I saw, and I know the big awards are going to be announced this weekend. um And I know the Penguins up for a lot. I know i know there's going to be some ah some good ones to watch out for, so um Rest in peace to Pauly Holiday. You don't know the name, I'm sure.
00:28:10
Speaker
um If you were into television in the 70s or reruns in the 80s or 90s, Flo from Alice. Kiss my grits. That was big, huge back in the day. Dead at young.
00:28:26
Speaker
wait the year so eighty eight years yeah No, she was old. And she hadn't done much. ah She was in something recently. I care i was going to mention it. I can't remember what it was, but it was a movie or something.
00:28:39
Speaker
can't remember. She played it. I always wish I remembered. Rest in peace to her. um and this is what you wanted to talk about. Uh, Paramount is preparing to buy Warner Brothers Discovery.
00:28:50
Speaker
Yep. Warner Brothers, um, number one, lot of turmoil there. was owned by AT&T not that long ago. Separated from them. AT&T damn near ran into the ground. Ran into the ground.
00:29:03
Speaker
Um, Paramount just merged with Skydance. So they all their brand new money they're gonna take you buy out the stocks for Warner Brothers Discovery, from what I gather. Um...
00:29:16
Speaker
I know there's a certain part of the internet that are saying one thing about this as far as Snyder half of this is concerned. They're already celebrating that yeah he's going to come back due to the fact that, well, he's not really at Paramount.
00:29:32
Speaker
He's doing the UFC movie, and UFC has a deal with Paramount now. So people are just kind of a connecting dots. oh But if Warner Brothers were to be bought by Paramount, I would be okay with it, even though it's one less studio in the business.
00:29:49
Speaker
um Dave Ellison, who was given a small little $600 million dollars loan from his father to start up a company when he was 22 years old, decided to open a film company.
00:30:01
Speaker
And the guy just loves film and loves cinema, which is a complete 180 from David Zasloff, who runs it more like a business. um So the film fan in me would be okay with this acquisition.
00:30:13
Speaker
Um, cause this dude absolutely loves film and I think he would be the type to keep someone like James Gunn in place. Um, he might get more involved with, with DC, but I think that would cement gun getting at least one more contract out of it.
00:30:27
Speaker
Um, plus it would take six eight months for this deal to close anyways. Isn't that usually how they work? Um, and his contract's up a year from November. um So it's interesting and out of all the suitors, I would rather it be them.
00:30:41
Speaker
Disney can't even attempt to buy it. um Also, Dave Ellison, his father is, as of a week ago, is now the richest person on the planet, um passing Elon Musk.
00:30:53
Speaker
So that's how he can get the money from him basically this little independent studio called Sky Dance Entertainment to buying Paramount and then buying Warner Brothers all within like a year, year and a half. um Let's just hope they keep Dexter around we can get that Dexter-Batman crossover.
00:31:08
Speaker
And this changes streaming? I mean, you got Paramount+, plus you got you got HBO Max. That's the only thing, too, is they get the backlog of everything on HBO? That's insane. The only big studio that does not have a streaming... I wanted to bring this up while were talking about this. The only big studio that does not have a streaming app or streaming content anywhere is Sony, Columbia.
00:31:30
Speaker
um If anybody were to buy them... If they were to merge with anybody, i would think it would be Apple um or Amazon. Amazon just bought MGMs, and they have a ton of money. Apple has a ton of money, too.
00:31:42
Speaker
um But as far as Warner Brothers, Skydance, Paramount, perfect pairing. um And, yeah, we'll have to wait and see what happens with the James Gunn. It depends on...
00:31:54
Speaker
how they're doing with ratings for HBO Max, and how the movies are doing i mean um digitally they're and in theaters. They're going to have their people run their numbers because whoever's in place now, Dave Zasloff, has an idea of what he expects from the brand.
00:32:11
Speaker
um So they'll run their own numbers and based off what they expect. And they may have to change some things. um I do think Gunn will get another contract out of it. But then again, they could cancel stuff too. They could cancel MAM tomorrow. Who knows?
00:32:24
Speaker
um So we'll just have to see. I mean, right now it's very early stages. They're just rumoring it, but they're preparing a bid, trying to get ahead of all the other competitions. So it'll be an interesting couple of months going into the winter season.
00:32:37
Speaker
Yep. Yeah. Very interesting. Uh, Hollywood business side of Hollywood is very, very strange. Very weird. Um, especially now the landscape of streaming and, and everything where nobody's going to the movies. Um, everybody's watching stuff at home. home Yep. Movies are down 40% from 10 years ago. So yeah, it's crazy.
00:32:58
Speaker
So, yeah, it's it's it's a weird time. And for for the consumer, for us, it's even weirder because the prices are going up. When we're used to paying $6.99 in the beginning for what? For Disney? And $7.99 for Netflix? And all of that stuff is going to $20 or more.
00:33:14
Speaker
Yep. When we talk about WWE, the pay-per-views now are on yeah ESPN. If you want to watch them, you have to pay a premium for that. Now, basically what the price of a pay-per-view used to be 20 years ago. Yeah.
00:33:28
Speaker
So we'll keep an eye on this. We'll keep an eye on other stuff in the market. um Speaking of that, Zazov talked a lot about HBO Max this week as well. um And the big thing that he mentioned was that um he calls the streaming of HBO Max a terrible experience. the experience yeah um Pretty much downplaying the app.
00:33:52
Speaker
which is not good for the app and and the marketing of the app. um i don't know I don't know about David Sassoff. I mean... I mean, it's on one hand, he has, like, people give him shit because they say Warner Brothers is dying.
00:34:07
Speaker
But he's knocked their debt down from $60 billion to $40 billion. um All within, like, 18 months, which is pretty good. I think he's doing a good job, but he's also a cutthroat businessman. He's not necessarily a movie guy he's not he's ah He's a reality TV guy. Like, that's what he was known for. um With Discovery. So um I don't think very highly of him, but I do think he's done decent job at least knocking down the debt and getting them to a position where they can sell now that they've got the record for, what is it, eight movies in a row to open more than $40 million or whatever. This year, the biggest record is this year. So yeah, seven or eight movies. Abney and DeLuca are the ones I'd be most concerned with, should...
00:34:51
Speaker
they get sold. um I think they're doing a stellar job. um But where do they fit in? There's going to be a lot of jobs lost. I don't really know how to feel about Zasloff either. I mean, like I say, he does an okay job breaking down the debt.
00:35:05
Speaker
But, um... He's not a movie guy, and I want movie guys running my studios. Right, yeah, it seems like they rely a lot on HBO Max, but they're but they're I think they're happy with what's going on in the in the theaters right now. Well, they are the number one, or they're kind of downplaying the whole Max thing. which i that Maybe that's what it is, but...
00:35:22
Speaker
yeah um And they're also talking about the price of it going way up to um that. there i I know A.W. is on there. I think we talked about it last week, but the pay-per-views, you only get like a $10 discount if you watch on an HBO Max. He was talking about a paywall eventually being there if you wanted to watch wrestling.
00:35:40
Speaker
on HBO Max. It's like, why? why I know the reason people watch it on HBO Max is because it was there. it was for free. Why would you pay for a premium for that? um see and It just seems like we're getting closer and closer to cable and it's scary because the prices are getting higher and higher as well.
00:35:55
Speaker
So yeah, who knows? um
00:36:01
Speaker
Raymond Cruz from Breaking Bad.

Celebrity News: Raymond Cruz and Michael Caine

00:36:06
Speaker
This is funny. How is this a crime? he' brain his He sprayed his neighbor he spread his neighbor with a hose.
00:36:16
Speaker
I guess he told the neighbor to get off get him get away or something. I don't really know the whole logistics of what happened. He was allegedly washing his car, yeah and the neighbor but neighbor's daughter came over and would like knock out of the way.
00:36:29
Speaker
So he asked her to move, and she didn't, so he sprayed her with a hose. like And they called the cops on him. When I was growing up, we did that instead of going to the beach. Right. Like... Yeah, in the middle California. Anyway, they called the cops on him. He got arrested. He was in jail last weekend. So I didn't want to bring that up.
00:36:48
Speaker
Got new character posters for the boy spinoff Gen V coming out on so September 17th, next week, five days from now. That's insane. On Amazon Prime. ah Yeah. know Setting up the last season of The Boys. And I know there's going lot of Boys guest stars on there as well. so um In the weirdest news of the week, Dwayne Johnson, The Rock, just talked last week that he's going to be in a more serious roles.
00:37:14
Speaker
Now that he's in The Smashing Machine, he's kind of like, yeah, I'm getting older. I'm going to do dramas. I'm going to be an award winner. Basically, Black Adam broke him and he won't admit it. Right.
00:37:25
Speaker
um But now he's going to be starring as the Chicken Man in a movie called Lizard Music. directed by Benny Safdie, who did the new Smashing Machine movie.
00:37:36
Speaker
um The film follows a young boy who finds a secret late-night broadcast of lizards playing ah otherworldly music that opens a hidden door to a whimsical chicken man. What?
00:37:48
Speaker
Yep. And the chicken man, I think, is supposed to be like 70 years old, so he should be playing an old man, which is why he lost all the weight. yeah hey Yeah, they said that on the red carpet, not the red carpet, but he was over at Cairns or wherever they were. I can't remember where they were last week, debuting the Smashing Machine.
00:38:04
Speaker
it looked very, very, very frail. ah Lost a lot of muscle weight. so um Oh, boy, rock. ah This is his award-winning run, I guess. so i get This guy, the director, he was in Happy Gilmore 2. He played the bad guy with the weird hair. He's director.
00:38:23
Speaker
of Uncut Gems. That's where Adam Sandler met him. um And he directed this movie as well, The Smashing Machine. so um Michael Caine, another weird story this week. 92 years old, retired a few years ago, decided, oh, I'm getting too old to be acting.
00:38:43
Speaker
um It's coming out of retirement. what would An actor of Michael Caine's caliber, what would what movie franchise would bring you out of retirement? What's the big name actor that would bring you out of retirement, 92 years old?
00:38:59
Speaker
Vin Diesel? The Last Witch Hunter 2? When I saw this, I was like, this is what he wants to leave his legacy on? Right. Okay. What was the last movie he was in? Dark Knight Returns? Oh, God.
00:39:11
Speaker
yeah I don't know. Maybe. Was that 10 years ago now? Probably that we've seen. 12, 13 years ago now. um But yeah, coming out of retirement at 92 for Vin Diesel's Last wch hunt Witch Hunter 2, which is based off a D&D character that Vin Diesel created the last Witch Hunter movie what a decade ago. Michael Caine was in that.
00:39:34
Speaker
and Maybe that was his last movie. um Oh yeah, probably. yeah But yeah, Michael Caine coming back for that role with Vin Diesel in this weird movie. um and I don't know anything about that movie, although I hear it's horrible.
00:39:47
Speaker
I know it's based off a D&D character that Vin Diesel created and turned into a movie. Other than that, have no idea what it's about. um But it'll probably be his last movie. Like you mentioned, it's interesting, weird news.
00:40:00
Speaker
um Got a new poster for Good Boy, which i I'm not a huge horror movie fan, but I'm very interested. I love dogs. I'm very interested to see this a horror movie about a dog and ghosts surrounding his owner and all that. so Got brand new character posters for Tron Aries. Comes out October 10th.
00:40:20
Speaker
ah Very excited for that movie as well. um Yeah, can't wait for that. AEW star Maxwell Jacob Freeman aka MJF joining the cast of Violent Night 2 Violent Night 1 was great with David Harbour joining the cast don't know who he would play an elf maybe who knows um he's great great actor he was Happy Gilmore 2 standout role for him probably that's right why he got this role So wait and see on that.
00:40:49
Speaker
Robert Pattinson and Skylar Gazzondo, who played Jimmy Olsen in the new Superman movie, and of course, young Sean Hunter in Psych, are reportedly set to be in an A24 crime drama called Primetime.
00:41:02
Speaker
The story follows a journalist who dives in the criminal underworld and and in an unconventional way, ultimately ultimately transforming television forever, um inspired by catch To Catch a Predator, as far as what the tagline says. So...
00:41:15
Speaker
ah yeah I love both of them. Interesting to see them both in a drama. We'll have to and see. Joining the cast of Highlander, Dishmin Hanzuzu. I don't know how to say his last name.
00:41:27
Speaker
Diamond Hanzu. He's in everything. He's joining Henry Cavill in that movie. Speaking of that movie, delayed in production until 2026 because Henry Cavill got a bad injury this week ah while training to be in that movie.
00:41:40
Speaker
so they are goingnna Definitely not too old to be Superman. no No, not too old to be Superman. and yeah They're going to be going back into production until early 2026. So they're probably going to be about four to six months behind schedule.
00:41:53
Speaker
So we'll see on that. ah Today, Nintendo had their Nintendo Direct thing this morning. A big thing that they announced was Super Mario Galaxy movie.
00:42:07
Speaker
ah The second movie in the Mario universe, Super Mario Galaxy. uh and they're also going to be releasing the games from mario galaxy one and two that came out on the wii and a two disc version coming out on the second of october and they've already come in hd they already came out on the switch also because you could buy the three packs that had those and mario 64 on it or was uh just um like mario galaxy one not the second yeah galaxy one sunshine and 64 yeah Those are fun games.
00:42:35
Speaker
If you don't have them, ah if you have them in the Wii, it's definitely worth getting. um The other thing that was announced was a new Yoshi game. A mysterious book coming sometime spring next year. But the big thing that everybody's talking about, we've actually talked about it not too long ago, um the Virtual Boy.
00:42:54
Speaker
up in the Coming out in the Nintendo store But they're actually coming out with this device where you put your Switch into it that is a Virtual Boy.
00:43:06
Speaker
It's the Virtual Boy stand, Virtual Boy thing, and you get the 3D look when you look through it like you got in the Virtual Boy. What the fuck are they doing? Going backwards? I get like really, really, like Super Nintendo stuff because people actually have nostalgia for that.
00:43:19
Speaker
Nobody has nostalgia for the Virtual Boy. Nobody fucking owned the thing. Right, nobody owned it. 14 games were released over time. Pretty sure their entire library was like 16 games. I thought it was 14, but there's some you there's some ah there to Japan ones there, too. There's like like two versions of Tetris. It was a travel device that you couldn't travel with.
00:43:38
Speaker
Right. It was bulky, huge. You had to it on a stand. You couldn't have it on your lap. like Yeah, you had to have it on stand. It was... It's the only Nintendo console I've never owned, to be honest.
00:43:48
Speaker
Yeah, and mentioned that if if if if it was like a Holy Grail item, um i would want that, but I think I'd rather... if the for cheap, I'd probably get the original. if If I saw in the store for a relatively decent price or like on eBay, I'd probably grab a Virtual Boy, but...
00:44:03
Speaker
There's four games, like you mentioned, there's four games worth getting. Mario Tennis, Mario Clash, there's a Wario World on there, believe it was the debut of Wario, and Tetris. like Those are the three the four games, um the the ones I'm be playing if if I do get the get this on the Virtual Boy on Nintendo Switch. But it is available for Switch 1 and Switch 2, and they're also coming out with a mini version, so you don't have to buy this big bulky thing.
00:44:26
Speaker
ah It's going to be cardboard and you put your Switch inside of it. so um Just a marketing ploy. um and It's going to have the same 3D look, I guess, as far as what what it's going to be able to do. and has the lenses on there and you put your Switch inside and you look in it.
00:44:40
Speaker
It's a lot to wait and see. i can show Hello, Siri. What are you talking about? um so That comes out sometime next year. um Let's get into some swag. Swag!
00:44:51
Speaker
Swag! stuff we all get. Come on, son. You know that's right. not's a Not a lot to talk about, just a couple of pop figures. Animaniacs coming out of the whole series, Pinky and the Brain, Dot, Wacko, and Yakko, and Nightmare Before Christmas. What are your thoughts? I know you don't you're not a big, huge fan of of Burton. I'm not either. I'm not a big fan of that movie as well.
00:45:15
Speaker
Same. yeah It's weird, though, because that movie and movies should be like one of my favorites of all time, considering it hits on both Halloween and Christmas. oh Innovative at the time too. I never saw it when I was younger when I should seen it.
00:45:31
Speaker
So it holds no nostalgic weight to it. I saw it when I was in my 20s probably. sam Yeah, It did not hit me when I was younger either. That's kind of why I didn't care about it either.
00:45:42
Speaker
um Getting some DC news of the week. clayfa Clayface currently filming. um And there's a the Club Vesuvius shows up in the background. It seems like there's a lot of Batman connections and a lot of DC connections in Clayface, where they're opening up the universe even more in this movie.
00:45:59
Speaker
um That's the first one. We talked about a few other ones. There was last week we talked about the Map Gotham. A few other things. Club Vesuvius is connected to Zatanna. So there's a connection there.
00:46:11
Speaker
ah The other thing that showed up on set was the Flying Grayson's poster, um which means Robin is probably a part of this universe. um So we'll have to wait see on that.
00:46:22
Speaker
um And Millie Alcock. Uh, my, uh, well, first of all, James Gunn was on the Howard st Stern show this week. Did it about an hour and 20 minutes. Listen to it. a lot of people don't know how to get to Sirius. It's, it's an app you have to pay for it. 1099 or 10 999.
00:46:39
Speaker
Um, listen to the whole thing. ah talking about Millie Alcock, he said that's the best ca of the casting he's ever done in his life. Um, stunning in the movie. Love, love seeing what they're doing in the post-production for that.
00:46:53
Speaker
Um, Howard asked him, uh, Who Peacemaker was originally going to be. um i think for the first time ever everyone he said it was supposed to be Dave Bautista. But Bautista, they couldn't do it fast enough. Bautista ended up taking another role that paid a lot more money.
00:47:07
Speaker
Which was Army of the Dead. Yeah, Army of the Dead. He did Army of the Dead Zack. ye so But they end up giving the role of John Cena, who he kind of didn't know much about, but became became close friends with him after that.
00:47:20
Speaker
I bet if Dave Bautista, it would have been the classic Peacemaker from the comics. yeah I assume that's what he was going for, because Gunn talked about this when he was developing the show, is he and John Cena basically after the movie, because it was COVID, they just sat and in Gunn's house for like six weeks and just came up with the character as he was writing the first season.
00:47:41
Speaker
um yeah So like 50% of that character is John Cena. And you can tell by the fact that ad-libs a lot on the show whatnot. But I bet if it was David Pardisian, it probably would have been a one-off character.
00:47:53
Speaker
That wouldn't have gotten a spin-off and it would have just been classic Peacemaker. Yeah. um But the big thing the big thing that came out of this interview was the Man of Tomorrow news. Yes. Going be filming in April of next year, 2026, creating a Superman sequel, and they're gonna start in April, talking about the movie being a Lex Luthor movie as well as a Superman movie.
00:48:16
Speaker
um It's a story about Lex and Superman having to work together to a certain degree against a much, much bigger threat. Yeah. so like i mentioned And like I mentioned in the beginning of this, um the Quantum Unfolding Chamber and in Peacemaker Season 2 are a direct lead-up to whatever this movie is, Man of Tomorrow. Could you imagine if we get Brainiac at the end of Peacemaker Season 2?
00:48:40
Speaker
Or, yeah, like kind of like the Thanos of everything. yeah Like when Thanos debuted, you saw the silhouette of his face at the end of Avengers. Could we see something like that with Brainiac, a whole bunch of cables going to...
00:48:53
Speaker
A man sitting in a chair looking over everything on a computer desk. Or maybe like a little city in like one of those like glass balls or whatever he does. Yeah. Yeah. Interesting. Candor. Yeah. Candor. Yeah. um Avengers.
00:49:06
Speaker
They did a light show somewhere over in the Asian countries. I'm not sure if Japan or China where it was. But um they showcased this light show showing glimpses of what looks to be Doctor Doom for the first time from Avengers Doomsday.
00:49:22
Speaker
um Because it also showed X-Men logos, Fantastic Four logos, Black Panther, Avenger logo. But it also showed Thanos being choked out by Doctor Doom right straight out of the comic books.
00:49:36
Speaker
Doctor Doom on a throne close up of his face. so yeah, there's a lot there in this weird light show that they they did over there. but Other than that, we don't know much more about it. Finally, a news in the news that nobody's surprised of, Ryan Reynolds admitted that he was the one that leaked the test footage for Deadpool back in 2014.

Ryan Reynolds and the Deadpool Leak

00:49:55
Speaker
The movie never would have gotten made. it was The reason why it was sitting in ah in a desk somewhere is because the studio had no faith in this character.
00:50:04
Speaker
So overnight, he just decided to release it on the internet, and and within 24 hours after everybody loved it, um the movie was greenlit. So he said, yes, I cheated a little, but I think I was on to something that people would be interested in, and I'm grateful that I listened to that instinct. I'm grateful that it didn't i did the wrong I did the wrong thing in that moment. ah yeah there We would not have a Deadpool movie. We wouldn't have a whole franchise of that Deadpool franchise.
00:50:28
Speaker
um if that did not happen. so i think the Statue of Limitations... we wouldn't have a Deadpool movie if Green Lantern was a success either. Right, yeah.
00:50:39
Speaker
Yeah, exactly. so That's it for news this week. Next week, Alien Earth penultimate episode. ah Peacemaker Episode 5, Gen V Season 2 premieres Episodes 1 and 3 on, I believe, Tuesday or Wednesday. Yep, usually Tuesday.
00:50:54
Speaker
Next week, we're I'm going to watch this weekend Friday Night Lights premiere. Because I know the week after, we're going to tackle the comic books for Watchmen. But next week, we're going tackle the HBO series that came out in 2019, Watchmen. Yep.
00:51:09
Speaker
um Little teaser. The show is set in current time. So where The Watchmen was set in the 80s is set in 2019. So what happened to The Watchmen 34 years later? And that's basically what the whole series is about.
00:51:24
Speaker
um And it's fantastic so far. and I've got like two episodes left. yeah We'll talk about that next week. So look forward to that. Thank you, everyone. And we'll talk to you then. Peace.
00:51:35
Speaker
Peace.
00:51:39
