Introduction and Impact of the Pandemic

00:00:06
Speaker
Thanks for tuning in to Loser Kid Pinball Podcast, episode number 31.
00:00:11
Speaker
Hey, my co-captain, as always.
00:00:13
Speaker
Scott Larson.
00:00:14
Speaker
How are you doing today, Josh?
00:00:16
Speaker
Awesome.
00:00:16
Speaker
How are you doing, Scott?
00:00:17
Speaker
You know what?
00:00:19
Speaker
I think it's a strange time for me as it is for most people in the United States right now and probably in the worldwide community, not just in pinball.
00:00:28
Speaker
I certainly haven't been working as much.
00:00:33
Speaker
In Utah, we are waiting for the epidemic or the pandemic to the numbers to come up.
00:00:40
Speaker
So we have been basically in a holding pattern, waiting for the onslaught.
00:00:45
Speaker
But we're hoping that we've done a lot of social distancing and been able to limit the rise in what we're doing.
00:00:54
Speaker
But yeah, it's actually been a little weird.
00:00:56
Speaker
How about you, Josh?
00:00:58
Speaker
Um, it has been a little weird.
00:01:00
Speaker
I mean, honestly, my life, all of our lives have been affected.
00:01:04
Speaker
I live in a rural area and out here.
00:01:08
Speaker
Um, I don't know if it's because we only have one case and that man is, uh, isolated in a vacant hotel and under monitor by the cops because he was an inmate.
00:01:21
Speaker
Um, well, let's not get into that, but we, he, he was diagnosed or he was tested positive like a week and a half ago.
00:01:28
Speaker
And we haven't had any other cases come forward at that point.
00:01:30
Speaker
So life here is pretty normal as normal as it can get under circumstances.
00:01:37
Speaker
Uh, I live on a 10 acre farm pretty much at this point.
00:01:39
Speaker
And so life is still kind of the same.
00:01:42
Speaker
We're still, it's calving season.
00:01:44
Speaker
So we're taking care of cows and babies and, and, uh, we went fishing last night.
00:01:49
Speaker
I mean, I don't know.
00:01:51
Speaker
I feel fortunate.
00:01:52
Speaker
Cause I feel like I hear these, these stories of people just held up in their apartments and
00:01:57
Speaker
in the major cities and they get to walk the block if they're lucky.
00:02:00
Speaker
And that's about it.
00:02:02
Speaker
Yeah.
00:02:02
Speaker
I've heard a lot of people say that, uh, the dog is tired of being walked.
00:02:07
Speaker
So I don't have a dog, so I can't even walk that, but I have taken my kids out on rides.
00:02:12
Speaker
So, yeah,
00:02:13
Speaker
We are a little more hunkered down.
00:02:16
Speaker
My wife is taking this very seriously and so am I. So we have really not done anything outside of our home except for going to the grocery store maybe every seven to 10 days just to pick up some stuff.
00:02:32
Speaker
that's about where we're at too.
00:02:34
Speaker
We publicly, we were not doing much.
00:02:36
Speaker
I still have to work.
00:02:37
Speaker
People still need their hot water.
00:02:38
Speaker
Um, people still need heating and air conditioning.
00:02:42
Speaker
It's still cold where I'm at.
00:02:43
Speaker
Uh, I know it's starting to feel good where, uh, where most people are, but we had snow last week.
00:02:49
Speaker
I mean, it's, it's kind of goofy.
00:02:51
Speaker
So yeah.

Pinball Achievements and Updates

00:02:53
Speaker
But other than that, like I said, I feel fortunate.
00:02:54
Speaker
I've, I've,
00:02:56
Speaker
I'm getting very familiar with Monsters of Rock on Monster Bash.
00:02:58
Speaker
It's a mode I had never hit until like three weeks ago, and I've visited three or four times.
00:03:04
Speaker
And so that's pretty cool.
00:03:07
Speaker
Still haven't got back to rule the universe yet, though.
00:03:09
Speaker
Well, there you go.
00:03:11
Speaker
Yeah, I actually just downloaded the new Iron Man code, and so I've been playing around with that limitedly.
00:03:19
Speaker
But I do see some different variations in it that I think nuances the code.
00:03:24
Speaker
Certainly Lyman is very aware that it's a good tournament game and doesn't want to mess things up that way.
00:03:30
Speaker
But I think there was some nice tweaks on it that made it a little more interesting.
00:03:35
Speaker
Can you explain to us a little bit?
00:03:36
Speaker
Because I did see that you posted the Iron Man code that came out on Monday or something like that.
00:03:41
Speaker
And it intrigues me because Iron Man is such a...
00:03:44
Speaker
I don't want to say a bare bones game, but it's a very straightforward game, especially when it comes with rules, because it's such a brutal game.
00:03:50
Speaker
Right.
00:03:51
Speaker
Well, the challenge with Iron Man is because it is a fast game and the rules are so balanced, it actually does help.
00:04:02
Speaker
in that there's not much, there's no way of gaming the rules.
00:04:08
Speaker
There are different ways you can approach and each different mode will give you different points, but it's not like they're saying, you know, hit Iron Monger all day or, you know, or hit War Machine Multiball or things like that, because it does allow you to try to do different things.
00:04:27
Speaker
A couple of things that I thought was nice
00:04:30
Speaker
Back when Iron Man came out, they really didn't have many good skill shots.
00:04:35
Speaker
So he actually added a skill shot.
00:04:39
Speaker
So it does actually take some skill.
00:04:41
Speaker
It drops the up post.
00:04:45
Speaker
And if you hit the lane just on the right side, then you get a million.
00:04:51
Speaker
If you go past it, it gets 250,000.
00:04:54
Speaker
So that's a little different and actually makes people go for the skill shot a little bit.
00:05:00
Speaker
In Ironman, a lot of people typically just bypass that, especially if they were in tournament mode because they want to control the ball faster.
00:05:09
Speaker
Gotcha.
00:05:10
Speaker
They also... Let's see, what was one other thing I saw?
00:05:14
Speaker
Uh, halfway through, sorry, I'm scanning the, um, scanning the notes here and I saw, yeah, let's see, there's added, uh, yeah.
00:05:28
Speaker
So added extra ball for competing the Ironman standup targets.
00:05:32
Speaker
That wouldn't be good in tournaments, but it's still fun for home.
00:05:37
Speaker
reduced whiplash targets.
00:05:38
Speaker
There's also a shield lanes, now light shield, after the lanes during Jericho Missile Mayhem, which is completed, so there's even a little bit more.
00:05:49
Speaker
There's also a mid-tier.
00:05:51
Speaker
I'm trying to... I read it, but I'm trying to find where it is.
00:05:54
Speaker
Halfway up the ladder, there's actually kind of a mid-tier reward that will allow you to get something.
00:06:01
Speaker
So that's actually nice.
00:06:03
Speaker
Okay.
00:06:05
Speaker
So just some nuances.
00:06:06
Speaker
It still feels exactly the same.
00:06:09
Speaker
But it's... Well, good.
00:06:10
Speaker
It's nice.
00:06:11
Speaker
It's nice to polish up an old favorite that has come back after it really...
00:06:19
Speaker
It was released with a thud and generally it's come back.
00:06:25
Speaker
I think people were surprised when they put the Iron Man Vault Edition on the line.
00:06:30
Speaker
And probably that's really what's going on is that they had, Lineman had a code that he wanted to put on.
00:06:36
Speaker
So they said, well, let's pump out 50 or 20 or whatever they had.

Industry Speculations and Adjustments

00:06:40
Speaker
And they could put that.
00:06:44
Speaker
So that actually begs the question,
00:06:47
Speaker
when they release something like a Tron would be an easy one.
00:06:52
Speaker
We've talked about this before.
00:06:54
Speaker
As long as the license is free, it's not a very expensive game to make.
00:06:59
Speaker
They could certainly nuance the rules because it is very straightforward like Iron Man.
00:07:03
Speaker
You could take it to the next level.
00:07:06
Speaker
So if Tron comes out, I fully expect them to release maybe an upgraded rule set on that.
00:07:14
Speaker
It does make it a little more challenging for Lord of the Rings just because it is so complete anyway.
00:07:19
Speaker
I'm not sure they'd be able to do much on that if the license is available and they were able to make it a price point that they could sell.
00:07:29
Speaker
But I would anticipate the next time the vault comes out and if Tron comes out, then they would have something like that.
00:07:38
Speaker
Yeah.
00:07:40
Speaker
Well, I guess that's the silver lining because there was a lot of complaints of, oh, Iron Man, really?
00:07:46
Speaker
Another vault?
00:07:48
Speaker
But typically when they do vault these, they do come out with new code.
00:07:51
Speaker
So, I mean, Iron Man's a perfect example of that.
00:07:54
Speaker
I think there is room for improvement on some other games like Lord of the Rings.
00:07:58
Speaker
Yeah.
00:08:00
Speaker
But let's not get into that right now because I don't know where even to start.
00:08:05
Speaker
You know what I'm saying?
00:08:05
Speaker
But I'm glad to see you're enjoying Iron Man.
00:08:08
Speaker
I hope a lot of people out there that do have Iron Man are enjoying the new code.
00:08:12
Speaker
Sometimes pass the time while you're sitting at home.
00:08:16
Speaker
But yeah, so shall we talk a little bit of news of...
00:08:20
Speaker
The little bit that we do have there, Scott?
00:08:22
Speaker
Yeah, go ahead.
00:08:25
Speaker
Let's start off with for sure confirmations first.
00:08:30
Speaker
Spooky confirmed on the Super Awesome Pinball Show that they are still working on Rick and Morty's.
00:08:36
Speaker
They have plenty of parts sitting in their warehouse.
00:08:39
Speaker
So...
00:08:40
Speaker
They're kind of to the point where it's an A or B situation, either A, they run out of parts first or B, they actually get shut down, but they're in such a small town.
00:08:48
Speaker
That's kind of like me being this rural area.
00:08:51
Speaker
They can keep working until the cows come home or until they run out of pinball parts.
00:08:56
Speaker
I think that's awesome.
00:08:57
Speaker
Yeah, it's nice.
00:08:58
Speaker
Yeah.
00:09:00
Speaker
I think it's a good compromise because from the medical standpoint, I totally understand how they want to shut down everything, do social distancing.
00:09:11
Speaker
But legitimately, there is this case-by-case basis of where do you do that and when do you do that?
00:09:20
Speaker
So...
00:09:21
Speaker
in a rural environment that they really don't have much going on.
00:09:24
Speaker
And they tend to have less inflow and outflow of a rural town than they would in a big city.
00:09:31
Speaker
So I think they are less at risk.
00:09:34
Speaker
So I'm glad that they're able to continue working while maintaining a high level of vigilance that if something happens in the town where the threat level elevates, then yes, I'm sure they would shut down.
00:09:49
Speaker
until it's safe to start back up.
00:09:51
Speaker
But I'm glad they've been able to do that.
00:09:55
Speaker
In contrast, Chicago is a big city that has a lot of inflow and outflow of traffic.
00:10:01
Speaker
And so they do not have the same luxury.
00:10:04
Speaker
I agree.
00:10:06
Speaker
But there is an interesting silver lining to this as well.
00:10:09
Speaker
I have had confirmations that certain companies... So Stern is still shipping games that are in their warehouse.
00:10:18
Speaker
They're allowed to go in once or twice a week to... It's only one or two guys, if I remember correctly, put a couple games on the truck and get them out because...
00:10:28
Speaker
you still got to keep business moving as much as you can.
00:10:30
Speaker
And it's kind of mind blowing at this point to think of, you know, the government's trying to help and whatnot.
00:10:36
Speaker
And they said, you know, small businesses can take out loans and a small, small businesses to find like under 500 employees or something like that.
00:10:44
Speaker
stern qualifies for that right american pinball uh you know um cgc it so it's it's kind of weird to think of you know i i know there's a lot of doom and gloom like we were tech i've been texting some friends and and they're severely freaking out about the pinball economy we're gonna see a dip it every everywhere's gonna see a dip it's just what it is um
00:11:10
Speaker
But I think, you know, let's keep optimistic here.
00:11:15
Speaker
I think that between government aid and some other things, I think we can keep this ball rolling.
00:11:23
Speaker
I know that I've heard people say, well, one company is not going to make it out of this.
00:11:28
Speaker
Honestly, you know, Spooky is still working.
00:11:32
Speaker
I assume Haggis still is down in Australia.
00:11:34
Speaker
I mean, they're a small team.
00:11:36
Speaker
And I think it's...
00:11:38
Speaker
I can't remember Damien's situation.
00:11:39
Speaker
I'm not gonna lie.
00:11:40
Speaker
I think they have a place they work out of.
00:11:42
Speaker
So it's not too big of a deal if he goes into work.
00:11:46
Speaker
Don't quote me on that though.
00:11:47
Speaker
That's just, may I'll cut that part out.
00:11:50
Speaker
But these bigger companies that are affected by this, they're still small enough that they can get help.
00:11:55
Speaker
And so I'm very, very optimistic of the future of pinball.
00:12:00
Speaker
Uh, we'll probably see prices go down though for a little bit because of, um, you know, people aren't working right now.
00:12:06
Speaker
So people, you know, pinball's a luxury item.
00:12:09
Speaker
And so it's the first thing to go.
00:12:12
Speaker
Yeah, there's certainly, I think this is more of a dip.
00:12:16
Speaker
It's not a dip in popularity.
00:12:19
Speaker
It's in many ways, people are looking forward to get back to their routine and,
00:12:26
Speaker
They're escape items.
00:12:27
Speaker
And so whether or not that's sports, whether or not that's pinball, whether or not that's concerts, people are going to want to get back into it.
00:12:34
Speaker
And so I'm excited to see once this is all resolved appropriately, we are looking to get back into it now.
00:12:45
Speaker
As soon as the economy recovers, I think people will be able to buy back the games.
00:12:49
Speaker
But I do anticipate some liquidation of games because if people need to be able to pay their mortgages or pay their insurances until they get back up and running, I would bet you would see โ€“ I wouldn't say the bottom falling out of the mark, but I bet you โ€“
00:13:08
Speaker
you would be able to pick up games for maybe 500 to a thousand less on the high end stuff and maybe 400 less on the low end stuff.
00:13:16
Speaker
Yep.
00:13:17
Speaker
I wouldn't doubt it.
00:13:18
Speaker
So, um, the next news slash rumor, um, slash based off of our calculations, cause we're kind of shooting in the dark here.
00:13:28
Speaker
So TPF was supposed to be last week.
00:13:31
Speaker
Um, but it didn't happen.
00:13:33
Speaker
If, if no one noticed, well,
00:13:37
Speaker
But if we go by timelines, the last two years, you could probably even check back further, but Scott and I just did the research for the last two years.
00:13:44
Speaker
Stern releases a game the Tuesday after Texas Pinball Festival, like Clockwork.
00:13:51
Speaker
So that means Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles should have released this Tuesday.
00:13:57
Speaker
And we do know that Stern's really good to have games made in box shipping out.
00:14:02
Speaker
Like there could be these games already in Australia because they typically what they do is they build a batch of them and then they Australia puts in their order and then they ship it down there.
00:14:11
Speaker
Right.
00:14:12
Speaker
So unless if Australia canceled their order,
00:14:15
Speaker
there should be Ninja Turtles sitting inside a stern just waiting to be flipped for people to buy.
00:14:21
Speaker
And that's what sucks is because everything's shut down right now.
00:14:26
Speaker
And you guys know that I'm excited for this.
00:14:28
Speaker
I want Ninja Turtles.
00:14:30
Speaker
I want to go break into Stern right now and just let's take one home.
00:14:33
Speaker
You know what I'm saying?
00:14:34
Speaker
Because the little baby's not being played.
00:14:36
Speaker
We got to play.
00:14:39
Speaker
But that's my thought process.
00:14:41
Speaker
By calculations, like I said, Black Knight Sword of Rage came out two days after Texas Pinball Festival last year.
00:14:47
Speaker
Two years before that was Iron Maiden.
00:14:49
Speaker
Kind of weird to think that Iron Maiden came out two years ago.
00:14:51
Speaker
Yeah, certainly they were gearing up for it, but they also want to be able to sell as many as possible when the buzz is still strong.
00:15:00
Speaker
That is the strength of Stern is that they're able to scale up and capture the market while the buzz is hot.
00:15:11
Speaker
So I would anticipate that whatever level they were
00:15:17
Speaker
Ready to sell whether or not it's, you know, 500 games or 700 games or whatever, whatever their threshold is to announce a game and get it out there.
00:15:27
Speaker
I would bet they would wait until that threshold is met.
00:15:31
Speaker
And so they can sell them quickly and mobilize them.
00:15:34
Speaker
So they're in a position to play the waiting game.
00:15:38
Speaker
until they are ready to sell the product.
00:15:41
Speaker
We have seen that buzz dies down and people are fickle and they move on.
00:15:45
Speaker
So if something is advertised too soon and they're anticipating a different game coming out, then you're at risk for losing that market.
00:15:55
Speaker
I'll put this out there, Stern.
00:15:57
Speaker
I know a couple of you guys listen to us, and I really appreciate your listenership.
00:16:02
Speaker
If you want total hype, tell you no.
00:16:05
Speaker
You can start selling these things again.
00:16:07
Speaker
I wouldn't mind if you shipped me one and I streamed it.
00:16:09
Speaker
I'd buy all the streaming equipment and everything.
00:16:11
Speaker
I'll keep the hype going for you for a month or two.
00:16:14
Speaker
I don't mind it at all.
00:16:16
Speaker
You're such a giver.
00:16:19
Speaker
Is that chilling or is that...
00:16:22
Speaker
I don't know.
00:16:23
Speaker
You know what I'm saying?
00:16:24
Speaker
It's seizing the opportunity.
00:16:26
Speaker
You're a pinball profiteer.
00:16:29
Speaker
Exactly.
00:16:30
Speaker
Let's go that route.
00:16:31
Speaker
I like it.
00:16:33
Speaker
But other than that, news is going to be slow and few and far between people.
00:16:40
Speaker
That's as good as we can get you.
00:16:41
Speaker
Yeah.
00:16:43
Speaker
we're going to see, we have been told people are still working on stuff.
00:16:47
Speaker
Um, that, that is the beauty of the internet.
00:16:49
Speaker
That's the beauty of technology.
00:16:51
Speaker
Uh, people are still designing at their computers.
00:16:53
Speaker
People are still working on rule sets.
00:16:54
Speaker
I mean, we see it with Iron Maiden.
00:16:56
Speaker
People are still working on artwork.
00:16:58
Speaker
There's still work to be done.
00:16:59
Speaker
It's just, I feel bad for those poor, uh, line assembly people.
00:17:03
Speaker
You just, you can't go into work, but it sounds like the higher ups are staying busy.
00:17:08
Speaker
Um, not the higher ups, the creative teams are staying busy.
00:17:12
Speaker
Yeah.
00:17:13
Speaker
And sadly, this is actually common in the construction business.
00:17:16
Speaker
I was talking to one of my friends at work and his brothers in the construction business.
00:17:22
Speaker
And...
00:17:23
Speaker
they are used to a little bit of ebb and flow.
00:17:26
Speaker
Now this is an unusual ebb because it's not really due to the economy, it's due to a pandemic.
00:17:37
Speaker
But they've gone through these type of things before.
00:17:42
Speaker
These people are still trained.
00:17:44
Speaker
They're still interested in coming back to their job.
00:17:46
Speaker
And once they're able to reopen, I would bet we'd be able to get them back in very quickly.
00:17:52
Speaker
I agree.
00:17:53
Speaker
Do you think, sorry, this just popped in my head.
00:17:55
Speaker
Do you think this is an opportunity because Jersey Jack is supposed to be moving into the Chicago area with this layoff?
00:18:02
Speaker
Do you think this is an opportunity to snag away some line workers?
00:18:06
Speaker
Maybe in many ways, this is advantageous for both groups because the same people will share the same skill set.
00:18:17
Speaker
And so I would bet that as one company goes up and if another company ebbs, the same workers will be applying for the same jobs.
00:18:28
Speaker
Yeah.
00:18:29
Speaker
And so it would be the equivalent of
00:18:32
Speaker
If two hospitals were in town, you're going to see staff shift shifting back and forth between hospitals.
00:18:39
Speaker
So in many ways, it's actually a big plus for the line workers in that they have options out there to be able to to continue working if it's available.
00:18:53
Speaker
I agree.
00:18:54
Speaker
I can't wait to see what the future holds.
00:18:56
Speaker
Like I said, I'm very positive about everything.
00:18:59
Speaker
I, we, we've seen this happen to our economy, not recently, but we have, you know, we've, we've seen stuff hit our economy before America always comes back.

Mental Health and Community Support

00:19:11
Speaker
This isn't the end of the world.
00:19:13
Speaker
Like, I guess I can't guarantee that I, I, I'm not a fortune teller, but, but if we're in the middle of it, so it's going to feel like the end of the world.
00:19:21
Speaker
Let's keep hopes up, you know,
00:19:24
Speaker
it only makes it better if we pick everyone else up.
00:19:26
Speaker
So, right.
00:19:29
Speaker
And in all actuality, we talked about this where this is in some ways a light week, but people look forward to their entertainment.
00:19:40
Speaker
And I'm hoping that we give someone, you know, an hour's worth of entertainment every other week.
00:19:46
Speaker
And we're able to at least try to keep some semblance of normalcy, right?
00:19:51
Speaker
And so if we can keep that passion alive and scratch that itch, we are more than willing to help that out, even if it's in a limited way.
00:19:59
Speaker
Yep.
00:20:00
Speaker
Scott, let's, let's talk about our last episode really quick.
00:20:02
Speaker
Last episode we had Jeff Rivera on.
00:20:05
Speaker
It was fantastic.
00:20:06
Speaker
Um, I was not expecting that.
00:20:09
Speaker
I was not expecting Jeff to talk as in depth about his personal life as he did.
00:20:14
Speaker
And it was, it was awesome.
00:20:16
Speaker
Like, yeah,
00:20:17
Speaker
It's a terrible situation he's in, but it's awesome that he was able to open up and talk to us about it.
00:20:23
Speaker
And we got a lot of positive feedback from that.
00:20:25
Speaker
Some of it we've been asked not to share, but let's go over it, Scott.
00:20:29
Speaker
Okay.
00:20:29
Speaker
Yeah, go ahead.
00:20:31
Speaker
So a person wrote in to us shortly after the episode.
00:20:34
Speaker
They said that they turned it on and it wasn't what they were expecting, but they loved it.
00:20:38
Speaker
They really appreciated it because they were going through some similar situations in their life and they hadn't told their family yet with mental health issues.
00:20:49
Speaker
And it made them feel like there was someone out there listening to them and that the situation was as dire as it needed to be.
00:20:56
Speaker
And so it was awesome to hear that.
00:20:59
Speaker
Just because Jeff shared his experience, it gave the courage for someone else to then discuss with his โ€“ gave this person the courage to discuss it with their family, what's going on in their life.
00:21:10
Speaker
Yeah, I think we forget that โ€“
00:21:14
Speaker
And we're all going through, outside of pinball, we have all our usual life roles that we're trying to fill, whether or not it's work, whether or not it's family, whether or not it's relationships, whether or not it's just integrating into a group or a tribe or however you label that.
00:21:36
Speaker
that it's, most of us don't talk about this stuff.
00:21:39
Speaker
And so I was very appreciative.
00:21:42
Speaker
Jeff and I have actually had some conversations over the years and I've always felt very honored that Jeff felt willing and able to talk to me about that because I've always felt that as, I guess, it's a vote of confidence that I am there to listen and give support and not,
00:22:04
Speaker
not judge for anything someone's going through.
00:22:08
Speaker
Thankfully, the brain is a unique organ in the body in that there's so much about it we don't know and how it functions.
00:22:18
Speaker
But when people feel that, hey, something is wrong and I don't know how to talk about this,
00:22:25
Speaker
people are going to be more open to at least listen and be able to give support because in many ways, we're all going to struggle with this, whether or not it's depression, whether or not it's anxiety, whether or not it's OCD, whether or not it's addiction.
00:22:41
Speaker
There are so many different ways that we deal with this.
00:22:44
Speaker
And the more that we are accepting to say, you know, if you reach out and say, I've had a problem with X, I guarantee the person will be able to say, I've had a problem with Y and I thought it was the only one.
00:22:56
Speaker
So I, I, I felt that was exceptionally brave for Jeff to be able to get out and, and share that.
00:23:02
Speaker
And so many people have even just texted me and said, that was, that was unexpected, but I needed that right now.
00:23:09
Speaker
Yep.
00:23:10
Speaker
You know, one of our, our favorite people that we've met through the podcast, Naomi Shedd, she has been a wonderful insight on this stuff too, as well.
00:23:19
Speaker
You know, just saying that it doesn't matter if it's, it's mental health or if,
00:23:25
Speaker
If it may be other issues that you're going through in your life, just know that there's people out there to listen to you.
00:23:32
Speaker
And that's the best thing that you can do for people, especially right now.
00:23:35
Speaker
You may be socially distant or socially isolated, but you can still make a call.
00:23:41
Speaker
You can still shoot a text.
00:23:44
Speaker
This is the time that people are going to have the hardest time mentally, mentally,
00:23:49
Speaker
Maybe not to the extent of what was going on in our last episode, but there are people out there that need to be heard.
00:23:55
Speaker
So just check in on your friend.
00:23:57
Speaker
And that's what I loved about talking about with Jeff is just, he told us kind of like, just check in on people like, like him, you know, cause Jeff, Jeff in my eyes has always been the guy that's willing to help the one that's always willing to jump the gun to get to you, to, to help you.
00:24:11
Speaker
So I've never known how to help Jeff cause he's always helping everyone else.
00:24:14
Speaker
You know what I'm saying?
00:24:15
Speaker
Right.
00:24:15
Speaker
Well, the nice thing is I say this in a loving way.
00:24:23
Speaker
In pinball, we have such an eclectic group.
00:24:27
Speaker
We have anywhere from people who have your traditional families to people who are alone or people who have...
00:24:39
Speaker
different relationships or just these new ways of life and the new ways of integrating.
00:24:45
Speaker
And in many ways, we all buy this current environment.
00:24:50
Speaker
We're all feeling stressed, whether or not it's emotionally, whether or not it's physically, whether or not it's financially, whether or not it's with your health.
00:24:59
Speaker
So just think about it now.
00:25:00
Speaker
Who do you normally play pinball with?
00:25:02
Speaker
And just shoot them a text and say, hey, I was just thinking about you.
00:25:07
Speaker
What's going on?
00:25:08
Speaker
And it doesn't even have to be, hey, you want to talk to me about something?
00:25:13
Speaker
It's just more of a, hey, I'm thinking about you.
00:25:16
Speaker
You still matter in my life.
00:25:17
Speaker
I can't come and visit you right now, but I still want to reach out.
00:25:21
Speaker
I totally agree.
00:25:23
Speaker
So the other side of that podcast, though, we got just as many messages.
00:25:29
Speaker
And I swear to you, the bidet is going to be reaching out to us to sponsor you, Scott, because how many people have reached out to you about your your earth shaking toilet experience?
00:25:42
Speaker
Yeah.
00:25:43
Speaker
No, you know, the funny thing is I did buy it a little bit more of a tongue in cheek joke because people had said yes, because in Europe they're everywhere.
00:25:51
Speaker
And every time someone goes to Asia, they always say the same thing.
00:25:56
Speaker
They have these amazing toilets.
00:25:58
Speaker
The toilet seat heats up and it has a bidet and it has a water function.
00:26:02
Speaker
And I've always laughed because I was like, you know, you can buy those here, right?
00:26:07
Speaker
It's not something that's only in Asia.
00:26:09
Speaker
But I did hear a factor, and I can't quote, don't quote me on this, but it was, I think it was Korea or Japan, but the overall power consumption of the country went up by 3% when everybody installed all these super fancy toilets.
00:26:29
Speaker
Yeah.
00:26:33
Speaker
But their toilets are like super high end.
00:26:36
Speaker
Like, okay, we get toilets here for about, what, 200, 300 bucks.
00:26:40
Speaker
They get like five grand toilets.
00:26:42
Speaker
It's like a premium LE.
00:26:45
Speaker
It's an LE toilet with all the bells and whistles.
00:26:48
Speaker
But what's funny, though, is people were specifically reaching out to us to talk about that incident.
00:26:54
Speaker
I mean, let's let Ian behind the scenes for a second.
00:26:57
Speaker
So two weeks ago, when we recorded our last episode, number 30, with Jeff Rivera, the next day, we recorded with Jeff Teolis, and we got on this.
00:27:07
Speaker
We got talking about the bidet.
00:27:09
Speaker
And you guys chatted back and forth.
00:27:11
Speaker
And the funny part is...
00:27:13
Speaker
the last final round episode with him and Martin, Jeff was talking about you and him talking about bidets and which bidet to buy.
00:27:22
Speaker
Well, okay.
00:27:23
Speaker
Okay.
00:27:23
Speaker
I will say my wife is also, uh, cause he said, well, we, we thought, cause Jeff was talking about with his wife's like, well, we had this in the cart, but we decided, uh, she wanted a, a battery.
00:27:34
Speaker
Yeah.
00:27:35
Speaker
And I was actually like, I actually think you just want to plug.
00:27:38
Speaker
I plug it into a GFI, just get an extension cord.
00:27:41
Speaker
And my wife looked at me and said, you are way too invested in this.
00:27:45
Speaker
Just let him get what he wants.
00:27:49
Speaker
So you will be hearing about that, guys.
00:27:51
Speaker
Guys and gals, please keep an ear out for a pinball profile.
00:27:55
Speaker
We did record with Jeff.
00:27:56
Speaker
We should be seeing that episode sooner or later here.
00:27:59
Speaker
And so he's pulling out fantastic content.
00:28:01
Speaker
If anyone's putting out more content,
00:28:03
Speaker
It is Jeff Teolis right now, and it is amazing.
00:28:06
Speaker
There's a lot there to chew on.
00:28:08
Speaker
He just released one today with him in Macho Pinball.
00:28:11
Speaker
Fantastic.
00:28:12
Speaker
Just great stuff.
00:28:13
Speaker
And then, you know, two weeks ago, not only did we record our podcast, not only did we record with Pinball Profile, but we also recorded our Twippy stuff.
00:28:25
Speaker
So we were kind of busy a couple weeks ago.
00:28:27
Speaker
Yeah, we were a little busy getting all set up.

Twippy Awards and Recognitions

00:28:30
Speaker
It was pretty fun, though.
00:28:31
Speaker
Yeah.
00:28:32
Speaker
I thought that was Jeff Patterson at This Week in Pinball doing the best he possibly could of a bad situation.
00:28:41
Speaker
Yes.
00:28:41
Speaker
So really, I enjoyed the Twippies.
00:28:45
Speaker
I had fun.
00:28:46
Speaker
It would have been more fun to be there, but he really did a fantastic job.
00:28:52
Speaker
So that is a perfect segue into our last news item and pretty much the last topic we're going to talk about today.
00:28:58
Speaker
It is the Twippies.
00:29:03
Speaker
And boy, was there, there has been a mixed bag of emotions.
00:29:07
Speaker
Before we get into this, though, overall, great response, though.
00:29:12
Speaker
Before we get into this, will you please do me a favor?
00:29:15
Speaker
Do Scott and I a favor.
00:29:17
Speaker
Reach out to Jeff Patterson at thisweekinpinball at gmail.com, or you can just hit him up on Facebook through Messenger, or honestly, he responds the best through the Gmail.
00:29:31
Speaker
But hit him up.
00:29:33
Speaker
And if you love the show, tell him that.
00:29:35
Speaker
Tell him what you loved about the show.
00:29:37
Speaker
I feel bad for Jeff because it seems like as soon as the Twippies are over, the flood of feedback comes in.
00:29:42
Speaker
And it's mostly, I don't want to say it's negative, but there's a lot of constructive criticism.
00:29:46
Speaker
There's a lot of effort that goes into this.
00:29:49
Speaker
Jeff has been doing this for the last three months.
00:29:51
Speaker
And I know if I was in his shoes, I would get discouraged if the only thing I ever heard was, well, A, B, and C needs to be fixed because of...
00:30:00
Speaker
point A, point B, and point C. And so if you enjoyed the show, if it made your isolation better, whatever it may be, please reach out to him and say, hey, this is what I loved about it.
00:30:11
Speaker
Thank you so much for doing this.
00:30:13
Speaker
Yeah, I agree.
00:30:15
Speaker
Jeff did a remarkable job of salvaging what was a catastrophic situation.
00:30:23
Speaker
And think of all the effort that he made behind the scenes to contact people, to have them record something, to have to compile it all together, to edit it, to put it into a show.
00:30:37
Speaker
to have Carrie, to have Emoto.
00:30:40
Speaker
They both did a great job of making it a fun evening.
00:30:43
Speaker
And so I hope that that helped out your isolation and reach out to them.
00:30:47
Speaker
Thank them.
00:30:49
Speaker
It's certainly, and he doesn't get any money for this.
00:30:53
Speaker
But I think everybody had a great time.
00:30:55
Speaker
I had a great time watching even the video responses of everybody and especially the Keith Elwin responses for some reason.
00:31:06
Speaker
Yes.
00:31:07
Speaker
We'll get into that.
00:31:08
Speaker
We'll get into that.
00:31:09
Speaker
Okay.
00:31:09
Speaker
All right.
00:31:10
Speaker
Love it.
00:31:11
Speaker
So what we're going to talk, we're going to, uh, Jeff Patterson was nice enough to release the information to the public of percentages and whatnot.
00:31:18
Speaker
We're not going to, we're not going to deep dive into all these numbers.
00:31:21
Speaker
There's just way too much here.
00:31:23
Speaker
And if you want to go check it out yourself, you can find it on pinside.com.
00:31:28
Speaker
It is the top pinned forum topic of twippies and the percentage results page number seven, go hit it up, but we're going to go over some of these.
00:31:38
Speaker
You ready for this, Scott?
00:31:39
Speaker
Yeah, go ahead.
00:31:41
Speaker
So first off, actually, before we get into that, really did love Carrie and Emoto.
00:31:47
Speaker
They were fantastic together.
00:31:49
Speaker
I love the show.
00:31:51
Speaker
I love what they were trying to do, even though it felt more of a live show than a prerecorded thing.
00:31:57
Speaker
You could tell because there was a couple of slip ups, but they still went with it.
00:32:00
Speaker
Loved it.
00:32:00
Speaker
It was it was great.
00:32:02
Speaker
First category, best music and sound.
00:32:05
Speaker
The one that took this home was Black Knight Sword of Rage.
00:32:09
Speaker
And I'm going to let you... I want you to go first on this, Scott.
00:32:13
Speaker
This was 100% appropriate.
00:32:15
Speaker
This was...
00:32:17
Speaker
This was actually, I felt, the best music pin out there because it didn't feel like the canned music that you have heard over and over again.
00:32:29
Speaker
In a lot of these things, you get really tired of hearing Back in Black all the time, or you get really tired of hearing Hell's Bells.
00:32:38
Speaker
And so this felt like an awesome retro...
00:32:43
Speaker
80s, it really felt more like a video game.
00:32:46
Speaker
And this is where I felt the genius of the way they approached that.
00:32:50
Speaker
And that they had the guitar that brought you into it, but it felt like it was not driving it, but
00:32:59
Speaker
But it was your personal background soundtrack.
00:33:02
Speaker
And so absolutely, they crushed it.
00:33:05
Speaker
And it was the first one that really felt applicable to a younger audience because it did feel a little bit more like that video game feel that people are more used to nowadays.
00:33:18
Speaker
I agree.
00:33:19
Speaker
The thing that I loved about this is I feel like ever since Black Knight has come out, it has been on its heels.
00:33:28
Speaker
And the fact that the community has always felt... Okay, sorry.
00:33:30
Speaker
Let me rephrase this.
00:33:32
Speaker
Not the community.
00:33:32
Speaker
There's been strong voices in the community that felt like...
00:33:35
Speaker
A, Black Knight's been a terrible decision for Stern.
00:33:38
Speaker
B, that it's proof that an unlicensed title can't make it in this time.
00:33:44
Speaker
And C, that there's no demand for it.
00:33:46
Speaker
Right here, it proves if you make a good game, if you put your heart and soul into it, and if you make just not the next cookie-cutter design, there's still demand for it.
00:33:59
Speaker
There's still love for it.
00:34:00
Speaker
And we saw that with this.
00:34:03
Speaker
I honestly did not think Black Knight was going to be anywhere near the top three on anything.
00:34:09
Speaker
And it blew me out of the water when it was top three in a lot of categories.
00:34:12
Speaker
So it was awesome to see that.
00:34:15
Speaker
Especially it reiterates what we've said over and over again is that you can't make the same machine every time.
00:34:25
Speaker
you have to be able to look at different markets and not every machine that Stern has to sell, has to sell 2,500, 3,000 or 4,000 or Metallica as I'm sure it's up in the 5,000 category.
00:34:40
Speaker
So this is just an opportunity to say, you know what, there are different areas that we can tap into
00:34:47
Speaker
And yes, it may not be the big seller that Metallica is or the big seller that Jurassic Park will be, but it will still be an excellent game that will fill a niche.
00:34:58
Speaker
And I think that it will find a secondary market of love on the tournament circuit, especially with a pro because it's brutal, it's fast, and I think it will have the second renaissance just like Iron Man did.
00:35:13
Speaker
Yep.
00:35:14
Speaker
I totally agree.
00:35:15
Speaker
So.
00:35:16
Speaker
Okay, let's move on to our next category.
00:35:17
Speaker
We've got homebrew, favorite homebrew pinball machine.
00:35:21
Speaker
Deadflip took this home with his original design of Jack Danger.
00:35:25
Speaker
And Castlevania was up there along with Spaceballs.
00:35:28
Speaker
Spaceballs was right behind Deadflip.
00:35:31
Speaker
There's been a little bit of controversy behind this.
00:35:35
Speaker
Here's the thing, guys and gals.
00:35:38
Speaker
This award is particular to motivate people to keep doing homebrew.
00:35:44
Speaker
And I get...
00:35:47
Speaker
I get the circumstances, but I think it's awesome that a project that was meant to help improve and help the community to get more homebrew out there did take the top award.
00:35:57
Speaker
I do feel like there was better designed games.
00:36:00
Speaker
Honestly, I'm sorry, Jack.
00:36:04
Speaker
The design, I get that the design was done by the community.
00:36:07
Speaker
The design drives me nuts to look at.
00:36:11
Speaker
It's too weird to me.
00:36:12
Speaker
It's too out of the box.
00:36:14
Speaker
I don't know what it is.
00:36:17
Speaker
But I don't like the design of it.
00:36:18
Speaker
There, I said it.
00:36:21
Speaker
But other than that, I think it's very well-deserved because it was something to help improve the community, and there's nothing wrong with touting that, in my opinion.
00:36:33
Speaker
Yeah, it's hard.
00:36:35
Speaker
Very few people have actually played these.
00:36:37
Speaker
And so you can see them on streams.
00:36:40
Speaker
But what really made Total Nuclear Annihilation happen was because it was at Texas and it had an amazing soundtrack, an amazing light show, and people were able to play it.
00:36:55
Speaker
So that was what made that the star of the show.
00:37:00
Speaker
I think it's hard with homebrews just because you're rarely going to get that sort of exposure.
00:37:06
Speaker
And so, hey, I'm just glad people are doing it and being able to try to push the market because we need new blood in pinball and they are bringing some great designs.
00:37:19
Speaker
So I'm happy that everybody's trying something.
00:37:23
Speaker
So I, hey, I will give everybody a gold star, awesome participation, you rock award for making your own machine because I certainly don't have the time to do it.
00:37:34
Speaker
I think the other thing too with this is...
00:37:38
Speaker
The complaint has been, when do you stick a fork in a homebrew and say it's done?
00:37:43
Speaker
Because a lot of these other projects were further along than what the Dead Flip machine was.
00:37:49
Speaker
But just like you brought up, Total Nuclear Annihilation is a great example of this.
00:37:55
Speaker
I mean, that game had zero artwork on it.
00:37:58
Speaker
But from a gameplay standpoint, it was completely done.
00:38:02
Speaker
And so where do you say, hey...
00:38:05
Speaker
This does or doesn't deserve a reward based on completion and yada, yada, yada.
00:38:10
Speaker
I'm going to let Patterson figure that out.
00:38:12
Speaker
He sounds like he's already on top of it, getting ready to redefine categories again for next year.
00:38:18
Speaker
But all in all, I think it is well-deserved for what it is.
00:38:23
Speaker
All right, let's move on to the next one.
00:38:25
Speaker
Best toys and gimmicks, Jurassic Park pinball at almost 40%, 39.8%.
00:38:34
Speaker
I have a hard time with toy and gimmick.
00:38:38
Speaker
So help me define what is a toy and what's a gimmick.
00:38:44
Speaker
A toy is something that is interactive to... I want to say interactive a lot.
00:38:51
Speaker
So Black Knight, Sword of Rage Knight is very interactive.
00:38:57
Speaker
That is a toy to me.
00:38:58
Speaker
A gimmick would be like...
00:39:02
Speaker
The Addams Family magnets underneath the play field.
00:39:06
Speaker
Yes, they're interactive, but it's more of a gimmick than it is a toy.
00:39:10
Speaker
Well, I would say like the thing.
00:39:12
Speaker
Yes, the thing would be.
00:39:13
Speaker
So it's something that doesn't really affect much gameplay, but it's cool to look at.
00:39:19
Speaker
Maybe you could say the flying monkey, right?
00:39:21
Speaker
Or the monkey that takes the ball up on Wizard of Oz.
00:39:25
Speaker
Correct, yeah.
00:39:26
Speaker
See, that's how I approach that.
00:39:28
Speaker
And that's why I felt with Jurassic Park, where it has the truck that moves back and forth.
00:39:35
Speaker
Hey, I'm surprised that something's so... When you look at it, you're thinking...
00:39:41
Speaker
Wow, that's great.
00:39:41
Speaker
Why hasn't it done before?
00:39:43
Speaker
But it hasn't.
00:39:44
Speaker
And so the fact that Keith came up with that on his own and was able to make a design, by his own admission, it had to be in the center of the play field just because of the kinetic motion of the truck.
00:39:57
Speaker
But being able to do that while not making the play field feel like a symmetrical slog is really genius.
00:40:07
Speaker
And so I gave him bonus points for two things.
00:40:11
Speaker
For him doing that and also the helicopter spinner, which I thought was genius.
00:40:15
Speaker
Yeah.
00:40:17
Speaker
Willy Wonka, I haven't had as much time on.
00:40:20
Speaker
My friend has one and I've played it.
00:40:22
Speaker
I still have a hard time connecting with it.
00:40:26
Speaker
But that seems to be a common theme with me and Pat Lawler.
00:40:29
Speaker
I love what he does.
00:40:31
Speaker
I actually like Dialed In a lot.
00:40:34
Speaker
But for some reason, it's just not.
00:40:36
Speaker
Maybe I just don't have the patience and I like faster games.
00:40:39
Speaker
Yeah.
00:40:41
Speaker
And so I liked what he did there.
00:40:43
Speaker
I thought the black night was awesome.
00:40:46
Speaker
And, and the, we'll get to the topper, which was our category.
00:40:50
Speaker
But I, I, that, that was just so much fun to see that because I've always felt like in black night and black night, 2000, I always kept thinking, well, where's the night.
00:41:03
Speaker
I was listening to the pinball show on Monday with Dennis Creasel and he was saying, well,
00:41:09
Speaker
Because they were talking about with Jurassic Park, really what's the toy.
00:41:12
Speaker
I guess now that you've mentioned it, the truck is a toy, the Newton Ball.
00:41:16
Speaker
But is it fair that something like the dinosaur that's only included on the premium and LE factors into the toys and gimmicks, even though it's not on the Pro?
00:41:28
Speaker
Yeah.
00:41:30
Speaker
I think we're getting...
00:41:32
Speaker
I don't know.
00:41:32
Speaker
Maybe we're getting too nitpicky with it.
00:41:34
Speaker
I think Jurassic Park's well-deserved.
00:41:36
Speaker
I think that there's a lot of stuff outside the box on it.
00:41:40
Speaker
We're using tried-and-true stuff in a different way.
00:41:45
Speaker
But I really think overall Jurassic Park did deserve it.
00:41:49
Speaker
But Dennis Creasel did point out games like Black Knight that do actually have the Black Knight on every game, pro all the way to limited, should have a better chance.
00:41:59
Speaker
I can see that point of view, and I don't disagree with it.
00:42:02
Speaker
But then again, we start splitting hairs again with categories and yada, yada, yada.
00:42:07
Speaker
Well, I would even argue that the...
00:42:12
Speaker
the truck design is really on par with the black knight in that it really is interactive and that is in every game.
00:42:19
Speaker
All right, let's move on to the next one.
00:42:21
Speaker
We've got favorite pinball location.
00:42:24
Speaker
Congrats to Logan arcade.
00:42:26
Speaker
I've never been there.
00:42:27
Speaker
Ta-da.
00:42:29
Speaker
I don't know what else to say to this.
00:42:31
Speaker
Congrats guys.
00:42:32
Speaker
Yeah, it's, you know, I'm just glad there's location pinball out there.
00:42:35
Speaker
Yep.
00:42:37
Speaker
Next one, favorite pinball publication, writer, or article.
00:42:41
Speaker
Pinball Magazine for Newsletters took this one home.
00:42:44
Speaker
It almost took 30%.
00:42:45
Speaker
It was very well deserved to, I think.
00:42:48
Speaker
Well, Pinball Magazine is more of a book, really.
00:42:51
Speaker
If you've ever seen one of those things, he puts his heart and soul into these.
00:42:55
Speaker
So calling it a magazine, that's a little bit of a misnomer because it's like a graphic novel, if you're looking at the comic book analogy.
00:43:05
Speaker
So he does take it to a new level, so it's well-deserved.
00:43:09
Speaker
I do think Coin Op Carnival had a really good shot at this.
00:43:12
Speaker
But hey, congratulations to Pinball Magazine.
00:43:16
Speaker
Hey, the coin op carnival cannot feel bad about, about not winning because they have a solid, it's not like they were a distant, you know, a distant second.
00:43:27
Speaker
It was actually pretty close.
00:43:29
Speaker
And so I certainly appreciate what they're doing.
00:43:32
Speaker
This one actually shocked me.
00:43:33
Speaker
The next category we're going to talk is best theme, which Willy Wonka ended up taking 32% over Jurassic Park by 23.
00:43:41
Speaker
That's pretty astounding to me, especially with... I feel like Jurassic Park has been more of an influence on our culture than Willy Wonka.
00:43:51
Speaker
I do remember growing up watching Willy Wonka because it was one of my mother's favorite shows.
00:43:55
Speaker
But other than that, I don't feel like Willy Wonka has been...
00:44:02
Speaker
as influential as Jurassic Park.
00:44:03
Speaker
I don't know.
00:44:04
Speaker
What are your thoughts?
00:44:05
Speaker
Yeah, I am with you on that.
00:44:07
Speaker
It's it.
00:44:09
Speaker
I remember seeing Willy Wonka and it feels like it's trapped in that weird seventies.
00:44:15
Speaker
Um, like I, I thought it was a good film, but as I've said before, it doesn't push my buttons.
00:44:22
Speaker
So I'm glad that there are people out there getting their dream theme.
00:44:27
Speaker
This was never my dream theme.
00:44:29
Speaker
And so I thought they did a great job on the game and being able to integrate it.
00:44:35
Speaker
It's just, it's never been on my wish list.
00:44:39
Speaker
So I'm, hey, I'm glad they got it.
00:44:41
Speaker
And it obviously means more to other people, which I've said before, it's good to get outside my demographic because my demographic is really the demographic they typically are building for.
00:44:53
Speaker
Next category, and one of my favorites, favorite competitive pinball player.
00:44:58
Speaker
And who took this home, Scott?
00:45:00
Speaker
You know, I think that was Mr. Keith Elwin.
00:45:03
Speaker
It was.
00:45:04
Speaker
He had a pretty good year last year, as far as I could tell, winning Pinberg and getting Jurassic Park out there.
00:45:15
Speaker
I think he's an up-and-coming kid in pinball.
00:45:19
Speaker
Love the video.
00:45:20
Speaker
Kate, it was fantastic.
00:45:24
Speaker
And maybe I'm biased.
00:45:25
Speaker
I'm not going to lie.
00:45:26
Speaker
I enjoyed that our hat was in it.
00:45:28
Speaker
I love that it was a, to prove it's Keith Elwin, I'm wearing the Looser Kid Pinball Podcast hat.
00:45:33
Speaker
That was fantastic.
00:45:35
Speaker
And Linus McPants, you were a stud for sitting in that pinball box all night long.
00:45:43
Speaker
Yeah, that was certainly an awesome move on the dog.
00:45:48
Speaker
So, yeah, it's, you know, I love that there's been a lot of fun interconnectivity with people.
00:45:56
Speaker
People, I hope that we have been nice to people and we've given them respect.
00:46:01
Speaker
We've certainly given constructive criticism when we felt it's necessary.
00:46:06
Speaker
But we do try to focus on the positive and it does.
00:46:09
Speaker
It makes me smile when there are people who, who send that, uh, that back to us.
00:46:14
Speaker
So that, that was, that was a lot of fun.
00:46:16
Speaker
Favorite pinball convention.
00:46:18
Speaker
Oh, sorry.
00:46:19
Speaker
Really quickly.
00:46:20
Speaker
Congrats to bone and Jack danger for taking second and third.
00:46:24
Speaker
Awesome job guys.
00:46:26
Speaker
Yeah.
00:46:27
Speaker
And the thing is we know all these names.
00:46:30
Speaker
Like this is none of these people who are on these on this list.
00:46:34
Speaker
I've never heard of.
00:46:35
Speaker
And so when I'm watching a stream, it, it is fun that we have been able to,
00:46:41
Speaker
Start developing a rapport with these people.
00:46:46
Speaker
I've never understood how Keith can look like he's playing just at someone's house and just as super casual as he's blowing up every game.
00:46:56
Speaker
Everyone else looks super intense.
00:46:58
Speaker
I don't know how he approaches it, but it just seems like it's just easy for him.
00:47:05
Speaker
So I know it's not, but it's, that is the, I have a, I've tried to adopt different pinball stances and the, the casual, the casual I'm standing up straight and just kind of glancing at the machine and blowing it up.
00:47:21
Speaker
I've never been able to master.
00:47:22
Speaker
So I've adopted more of the, the Lyman sheets, the, the wrestler stance where I'm hunched down and trying to look as, as low as I can on the play field.
00:47:33
Speaker
But that's hard on your back.
00:47:36
Speaker
Yes.
00:47:37
Speaker
Favorite pinball convention.
00:47:38
Speaker
No shock here.
00:47:39
Speaker
Texas Pinball Festival takes it home again.
00:47:41
Speaker
Reply effects within 7% of that.
00:47:43
Speaker
And then in third, Chicago Pinball Expo.
00:47:47
Speaker
Those are the big three.
00:47:49
Speaker
Yeah, those are the big three.
00:47:50
Speaker
And I'm glad that Chicago is starting to make a comeback.
00:47:54
Speaker
And replay obviously has Pinberg.
00:47:57
Speaker
And so replay is very, it's a very,
00:48:01
Speaker
Pinberg heavy event, which is great.
00:48:05
Speaker
The Texas Pinball Festival, it seems like it's a, it's like a festival for everybody.
00:48:13
Speaker
And so that certainly is why I feel it gets that popularity bump.
00:48:19
Speaker
But, you know, I, Hey, I'm glad that all three of these, these big ones are, are still out there.
00:48:25
Speaker
And, you know, it's just like in the majors you know, when you have, you know,
00:48:30
Speaker
We have tennis, you know, you have the US Open, you have Wimbledon, you have the French, you know, all the majors kind of bubble up to the top.
00:48:37
Speaker
And this is what it felt like for me.
00:48:39
Speaker
I agree.
00:48:40
Speaker
Best theme integration, Jurassic

Pinball Community Engagement and Accolades

00:48:42
Speaker
Park.
00:48:42
Speaker
No shocker there.
00:48:44
Speaker
Followed closely by Willy Wonka and Elvira's House of Horrors.
00:48:48
Speaker
No shocker there as well.
00:48:51
Speaker
Favorite pinball website, Pinside.
00:48:53
Speaker
Almost 41%.
00:48:57
Speaker
Second place was this week in pinball at 16%.
00:48:59
Speaker
Pinside blew the rest of the category out of the water.
00:49:03
Speaker
Shocked me.
00:49:04
Speaker
Well, I, I will say that it's the most important forum.
00:49:08
Speaker
And if you really have any questions, you will always go on to pin side and you can just Google, uh, if you're looking for something specific, here's a little pro tip.
00:49:18
Speaker
You can just do a Google search and then put what you're searching for and then just put pin side in it.
00:49:25
Speaker
And usually finds the right post that you're looking for.
00:49:30
Speaker
But they've done an amazing job of being able to, yes, there are a lot of trolls on Pinside and I've just learned to ignore the trolls and don't feed the trolls.
00:49:40
Speaker
But it's really great that there's that resource that is universally accepted.
00:49:48
Speaker
I agree.
00:49:48
Speaker
Well, and like with me, like I said, like, like you said, sorry, you typically don't go on the forums because of the trolls.
00:49:54
Speaker
I use Pinside daily and I can't tell you the last time I was on a forum besides looking at these percentages.
00:49:59
Speaker
I'm never on the forums between machines and market and messaging people.
00:50:04
Speaker
I mean, there's so much to do with that website that doesn't have to specifically do with just the forums.
00:50:08
Speaker
And it's, it is amazing website for what it is.
00:50:11
Speaker
Yeah, exactly.
00:50:12
Speaker
Well, okay.
00:50:13
Speaker
But yeah,
00:50:14
Speaker
Did you know this is how, how Brad found me today?
00:50:18
Speaker
You remember that story from that story?
00:50:20
Speaker
Yeah.
00:50:20
Speaker
Yeah.
00:50:21
Speaker
I thought he knew me from the pin, from, from the podcast and he just Googled people on pin side and said, Hey, are you around?
00:50:30
Speaker
I'd like to play pinball.
00:50:31
Speaker
Yep.
00:50:33
Speaker
All right, let's move on to best animations and displays.
00:50:36
Speaker
And this one is insanely close.
00:50:39
Speaker
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory took it home by 0.3% over Jurassic Park.
00:50:46
Speaker
And that's a coin flip.
00:50:49
Speaker
I would say, for all intents and purposes, that's a tie, which means they both nailed it.
00:50:55
Speaker
You remember when the LCD first came out where they really weren't sure what to do with it?
00:51:02
Speaker
And so it felt a little clunky.
00:51:04
Speaker
This means they have figured out ways of stepping it up and it is, is being integrated better and better.
00:51:09
Speaker
And so, uh, kudos to Stern and kudos to JJP for being able to elevate this and actually make it feel naturally integrated into the game.
00:51:21
Speaker
I agree.
00:51:23
Speaker
Next category, Rookie of the Year.
00:51:25
Speaker
Very well-deserved.
00:51:26
Speaker
Congratulations, Tim Sexton.
00:51:28
Speaker
This is one that we've been kind of predicting for the last three, four months because honestly, the man deserves it.
00:51:34
Speaker
We were in this category.
00:51:35
Speaker
I do want to point out that we were the top podcast in the results.
00:51:41
Speaker
We may be in sixth place.
00:51:43
Speaker
But out of all the podcasts, we were number one.
00:51:48
Speaker
So you are now going to hear that.
00:51:49
Speaker
We're going to be the number one rookie of the year podcast.
00:51:54
Speaker
In the sixth place territory.
00:51:56
Speaker
In the sixth place territory.
00:51:57
Speaker
But no, it was very awesome, very humbling to see that we were that high, especially over...
00:52:01
Speaker
Chris Franchi and the Super Awesome Pinball Show.
00:52:05
Speaker
We had Lauren Gray on.
00:52:06
Speaker
She's got a wonderful show.
00:52:08
Speaker
Poor Man's Pitball Podcast.
00:52:10
Speaker
Those guys are fantastic as well.
00:52:11
Speaker
I love that everyone in this... You know they always say, oh, there's so many pinball podcasts.
00:52:17
Speaker
You look at this, that is a very diverse, different group of podcasts.
00:52:22
Speaker
I mean, between us, you got Poor Man's that...
00:52:26
Speaker
Let's not be around the bush.
00:52:27
Speaker
Like they say, it's the sloppiest show in pinball.
00:52:30
Speaker
And it really is.
00:52:31
Speaker
I love it, guys.
00:52:32
Speaker
And then Lauren, we love what you're doing there with the female-oriented podcast.
00:52:38
Speaker
That's fantastic.
00:52:39
Speaker
And Franchi is doing something, in my opinion, that hasn't been done yet in pinball podcasting.
00:52:44
Speaker
So it's cool that there's a diverse group of people.
00:52:47
Speaker
It's just not the same thing getting churned out.
00:52:49
Speaker
Well, and if you look at it, yes, we are the number one sixth place podcast, but legitimately 7.2, 6.8, 6.7, 4.8.
00:53:01
Speaker
We all really, we could divide that evenly.
00:53:04
Speaker
And it just says that, great.
00:53:06
Speaker
You know what?
00:53:08
Speaker
This is a 31 flavors ice cream situation and everybody gets to choose their flavor.
00:53:14
Speaker
Yep.
00:53:15
Speaker
So congratulations again, Tim Sexton.
00:53:17
Speaker
We don't want to pull away from your win.
00:53:20
Speaker
And also congratulations to Jack Danger and Zach and Nicole Many for that category.
00:53:25
Speaker
This is one that had had a lot of controversy around it.
00:53:28
Speaker
And Jeff has already promised there's going to be a lot more different regulations with it to help kind of tighten up that category.
00:53:34
Speaker
Sure.
00:53:35
Speaker
But can you pick anybody on that that deserves it more than 10, though?
00:53:39
Speaker
And really, Tim came from the competitive pinball scene and he stepped up to the plate, got teamed up with Steve Ritchie, and he really took that game to a new level and being able to make it.
00:53:55
Speaker
This one, I guarantee this Black Knight and probably the pro is going to be in tournaments for years to come because it is going to be a great tournament game.
00:54:06
Speaker
I agree.
00:54:08
Speaker
So, um, I totally lost my spot.
00:54:12
Speaker
Favorite pinball tournament competition.
00:54:14
Speaker
Um, no surprise here.
00:54:15
Speaker
Pinberg 47.6%.
00:54:18
Speaker
It's like saying, what's your favorite football game?
00:54:20
Speaker
Uh, you have the super bowl or you have everything else.
00:54:25
Speaker
Yeah, exactly.
00:54:26
Speaker
So no shocker there.
00:54:27
Speaker
Best call outs.
00:54:28
Speaker
I think this is awesome.
00:54:29
Speaker
I think it is awesome that Elvira took this home and I loved the acceptance speech.
00:54:35
Speaker
I thought it was very informative.
00:54:37
Speaker
It was cool to get to know the guy.
00:54:39
Speaker
Yeah.
00:54:40
Speaker
And it does actually point out too, though, that look at what black night did and black night was right up there.
00:54:48
Speaker
And so they did such an amazing job on their call outs.
00:54:51
Speaker
And so both of those really deserve to be recognized and
00:54:55
Speaker
for being able to make call-outs something interesting because you are going to hear those call-outs.
00:55:01
Speaker
And that's really what you're going to be hearing during playing the game.
00:55:04
Speaker
One of the reasons why I still have my Spider-Man machine is because the call-outs are so fantastic.
00:55:11
Speaker
Yep.
00:55:13
Speaker
All right, moving on.
00:55:15
Speaker
Favorite pinball YouTube channel.
00:55:17
Speaker
And this one was fairly close.
00:55:19
Speaker
We've got Papa Pinball.
00:55:21
Speaker
And honestly, I feel like this is one of the number ones that are watched.
00:55:27
Speaker
I mean, I always go to YouTube and I type in The Shadow Pinball Tutorial or...
00:55:35
Speaker
Jurassic Park pinball tutorial.
00:55:37
Speaker
And the first thing that usually comes up is Papa TV.
00:55:40
Speaker
And that's why I've looked up to Bowen because of this.
00:55:46
Speaker
I felt like I've learned pinball because of Bowen taking his time out to do these tutorials.
00:55:51
Speaker
And so it didn't shock me when Papa won.
00:55:53
Speaker
But it was awesome to see TNT's video as well.
00:55:55
Speaker
Yeah.
00:55:56
Speaker
Well, TNT, there are three different shows.
00:55:59
Speaker
Legitimately, this is a pick your flavor.
00:56:05
Speaker
Certainly, everybody watches Papa because when you buy a game, especially an older game, you're going to see, okay, what does Bowen say about it?
00:56:13
Speaker
Because he certainly has the rules, knowledge, and the skills to be able to show you what the game is supposed to do.
00:56:19
Speaker
Straight down the middle, it's still fun.
00:56:22
Speaker
It's the streaming version of what we're doing.
00:56:26
Speaker
And in many ways, we take a lot of lead from what they have done.
00:56:33
Speaker
And really, TNT, come on, who does not love watching Todd Tucky go around and do his little thing?
00:56:42
Speaker
I agree.
00:56:43
Speaker
I will say I was a little disappointed in Todd Tucky that I talked to him about three years ago or four years ago.
00:56:48
Speaker
And I said, I'm looking for a seven 20.
00:56:50
Speaker
He said, yeah, they just don't come up.
00:56:52
Speaker
Well, I just saw one in his last video in the background and he didn't give me a call.
00:56:59
Speaker
Come on, you creep.
00:57:01
Speaker
Yeah.
00:57:02
Speaker
I know.
00:57:03
Speaker
Right.
00:57:04
Speaker
Okay.
00:57:04
Speaker
Yes.
00:57:05
Speaker
I know.
00:57:05
Speaker
I know have one dead on arrival in my garage that I'm still need to fix, but still.
00:57:10
Speaker
Yeah.
00:57:13
Speaker
All right, favorite pinball mod of 2019.
00:57:16
Speaker
Amber Jurassic Park shooter rod, 20%.
00:57:19
Speaker
No shocker here.
00:57:21
Speaker
Fantastic mod.
00:57:21
Speaker
Yeah, no shocker.
00:57:22
Speaker
It's really cool.
00:57:25
Speaker
It's theme-specific, and also it doesn't really detract from the shooter.
00:57:31
Speaker
That's one of the challenges of these deluxe shooter rods is sometimes, especially with a skill shot, it makes it really hard to get a...
00:57:41
Speaker
to get that feel because it's a different rod.
00:57:46
Speaker
I will say the chest mod for JJP is really cool.
00:57:51
Speaker
It really is.
00:57:52
Speaker
In all of these mods, I would think, yeah, you'd want those.
00:57:57
Speaker
Yep.
00:57:59
Speaker
Best Light Show, Willy Wonka.
00:58:00
Speaker
Really not a shocker.
00:58:01
Speaker
I mean, it won by 40%.
00:58:02
Speaker
Or not by 40%.
00:58:02
Speaker
It won with 40% of the vote.
00:58:07
Speaker
Yeah, you know what?
00:58:09
Speaker
The one thing that JJP has consistently done to a different level is their light shows.
00:58:18
Speaker
So, yeah, absolutely.
00:58:19
Speaker
They, you know, it's it's fun.
00:58:22
Speaker
You walk into you walk into my home and you are going to notice Wizard of Oz.
00:58:28
Speaker
It's the first one you are going to notice just because they have something different.
00:58:33
Speaker
And it's not bad or good.
00:58:35
Speaker
It's just it stands out, which is really what you're looking for, especially if you get these things on location.
00:58:42
Speaker
All right, favorite pinball streamer, Dead Flip took a landslide on this one.
00:58:46
Speaker
46% of the vote, almost 47%.
00:58:50
Speaker
But there's two things I want to point out about this category.
00:58:54
Speaker
Flippin' Out Pinball took second at 12%.
00:58:58
Speaker
That might not seem like much, but let's consider this.
00:59:00
Speaker
Flippin' Out started, what, at the end of summer last year?
00:59:03
Speaker
And that's pretty impressive to me.
00:59:07
Speaker
I think it's awesome.
00:59:08
Speaker
Like I, when I think of pinball streaming, I think of Jack danger and it's, I know there's a lot of controversy around what's been, been going on with all that, but you know what?
00:59:19
Speaker
Jack is good at what he does.
00:59:20
Speaker
And I feel like he draws in and, and builds the hobby.
00:59:24
Speaker
Yeah.
00:59:25
Speaker
And promotes it to the public in ways that I can't.
00:59:30
Speaker
I think this is well-deserved.
00:59:32
Speaker
The other cool part I wanted to point out, Pinball Undesirables, they took dead last, which may not be cool, but he posted on Pinsight after these results were posted that he felt very honored to even be in the top 10.
00:59:47
Speaker
You know, one of the concerns is seeing these results and feeling discouraged and not wanting to do what you're doing anymore.
00:59:53
Speaker
And if anything, Pimbal Undersible is like, dude, this is the coolest thing ever that I was.
00:59:58
Speaker
He's like, I don't expect to ever be in this category ever again because there's a lot of streamers out there now.
01:00:04
Speaker
Yeah, and I will say there are different ways of looking at it.
01:00:08
Speaker
Jack is being Jack.
01:00:10
Speaker
He's having fun doing this.
01:00:14
Speaker
In many ways, Flippin' Out, it's a different show.
01:00:19
Speaker
It seems to be a little bit more like a roundtable and they bring in people together.
01:00:24
Speaker
who have worked on the games, and they've been able to... They had George Gomez come in.
01:00:31
Speaker
And so they've been able to do some really good things with a special Winlit crew.
01:00:39
Speaker
So I really...
01:00:41
Speaker
I love what they are doing.
01:00:43
Speaker
Again, it's a different show.
01:00:45
Speaker
Jack is doing a great thing and Jack is trying to be that, that pinball personality that gets people excited about playing pinball.
01:00:53
Speaker
So again, you're feeling different niches and I, that's healthy.
01:00:57
Speaker
Yep.
01:00:58
Speaker
I totally agree.
01:00:59
Speaker
Okay.
01:01:00
Speaker
Let's move on to favorite pinball league.
01:01:02
Speaker
Congratulations to Lauren gray and her, her pinball league bells and chimes, San Antonio.
01:01:08
Speaker
They took home the award and that is very awesome.
01:01:11
Speaker
Yeah, this is a shout out to there's room for everybody at the table.
01:01:19
Speaker
And this is, I've said this analogy before.
01:01:23
Speaker
The table is not fixed.
01:01:26
Speaker
So in order for us to bring more people to the table, we don't have to kick people out.
01:01:30
Speaker
We can keep expanding the table and bring more shares into the table.
01:01:34
Speaker
And that's the way that we bring pinball is to say, you know what?
01:01:38
Speaker
We don't care what your background is, social, economic, religious, you know, orientation, everything.
01:01:49
Speaker
I don't care if you want to play a game with Jurassic Park with me, come on over.
01:01:53
Speaker
We will play because we have something that we can that we can bond together on.
01:01:59
Speaker
And absolutely fully aware there are some bad actors out there that sadly get way more publicity than I'm hoping percentage wise they are.
01:02:11
Speaker
I would like to believe that most of us are just willing to play with whomever is coming up.
01:02:17
Speaker
And this is just fun.
01:02:18
Speaker
It's fun to share a common experience with someone, especially with a stranger.
01:02:23
Speaker
I agree.
01:02:25
Speaker
Best rules, Jurassic Park.
01:02:29
Speaker
There's no chance on this one.
01:02:32
Speaker
When Keith said that he had twice as much coding in Jurassic Park versus Iron Maiden, that blew me away.
01:02:41
Speaker
What'd you think?
01:02:44
Speaker
Was there really, not to sound conceited or anything like that, but was there really any other pinball that was going to compete with this?
01:02:52
Speaker
I mean, look at the results.
01:02:53
Speaker
57%.
01:02:53
Speaker
Yeah.
01:02:54
Speaker
I mean, it's pretty unanimous.
01:02:58
Speaker
Yeah, the only thing that would probably give it a run for the money is if JJP Pirates came out because what Eric has done with that code is completely encyclopedic as well.
01:03:14
Speaker
So I would say that that would be a closer vote if it were between Jurassic Park and JJP Pirates, which I am still hoping they decide to put those back on the line because there's such a need for those right now.
01:03:30
Speaker
You know it.
01:03:32
Speaker
Favorite pinball topper of 2019.
01:03:33
Speaker
This was our category.
01:03:35
Speaker
This was closer than I thought it was going to be, actually.
01:03:38
Speaker
Yeah.
01:03:40
Speaker
I...
01:03:42
Speaker
Just a disclaimer, we did not know who was going to win this category.
01:03:46
Speaker
We were just essentially asked to read the parts that we did.
01:03:48
Speaker
And the funny part was, is my wife's like, man, you're really rigid.
01:03:52
Speaker
You need to like move or something.
01:03:54
Speaker
But...
01:03:56
Speaker
Yeah, I'm not going to go over the circumstances.
01:03:58
Speaker
I was like, we had done it multiple times.
01:04:00
Speaker
We do podcasts.
01:04:01
Speaker
We don't do videos very often.
01:04:03
Speaker
So it was very different.
01:04:05
Speaker
Well, it was a little hard too, because we were struggling because you were getting some reverb in your headset.
01:04:12
Speaker
So you actually set it up a little better.
01:04:14
Speaker
I just pulled up my podcasting rig, which is why I look like I'm just talking to no microphone.
01:04:19
Speaker
And you're actually trying to do a presentation.
01:04:22
Speaker
But, you know, it's...
01:04:24
Speaker
Hey, it's okay.
01:04:25
Speaker
We got some shout outs.
01:04:26
Speaker
So that was fun.
01:04:27
Speaker
Yep.
01:04:27
Speaker
That was awesome.
01:04:28
Speaker
But Black Knight, honestly, I'm kind of shocked that it did take the top.
01:04:34
Speaker
I'm not.
01:04:34
Speaker
It's amazing.
01:04:36
Speaker
That interaction is on par with what they did with the dinosaur head in the premium on Jurassic Park.
01:04:47
Speaker
And it is such a cool interactive topper.
01:04:51
Speaker
I would be terrified to put that on location just because some idiot would just try to mess with it.
01:04:58
Speaker
But it really unbelievably cool for that one.
01:05:03
Speaker
Whoever came up with that idea at Stern.
01:05:06
Speaker
I totally agree.
01:05:07
Speaker
So, yeah, I kind of want a Black Knight Sword of Rage.
01:05:11
Speaker
I would lean toward the pro because I like the faster speed of it.
01:05:14
Speaker
But I would, if I did that, I would absolutely get the topper.
01:05:18
Speaker
Yep.
01:05:20
Speaker
All right.
01:05:21
Speaker
This is, this is the category we're in favorite pinball podcast.
01:05:25
Speaker
Canada three Pete, man.
01:05:27
Speaker
Congratulations.
01:05:29
Speaker
Shout out to Chris.
01:05:30
Speaker
So I, you know what he, he has a way of getting the votes and he certainly has a following and he is, I said it before, he's very good at being a podcaster.
01:05:44
Speaker
So he's very entertaining and he does have a talent for getting a following.
01:05:50
Speaker
So congratulations.
01:05:51
Speaker
I don't really have anything to say.
01:05:55
Speaker
I just want to point out a couple of things.
01:05:56
Speaker
I think it's really awesome that this Week in Pinball podcast, a podcast that had been out for not even a year at this point, garnered almost 20% of the votes.
01:06:07
Speaker
I mean, Kaneda's at 28, which is impressive, but Kaneda's been around for four years.
01:06:12
Speaker
And so between that and Special and Lit, a show that's been around for a year and a half.
01:06:18
Speaker
Awesome job, guys.
01:06:19
Speaker
Top three, fantastic.
01:06:22
Speaker
I do want to point out, though, I find it very interesting that second, third, and fifth place, all those podcasts no longer exist.
01:06:30
Speaker
So what's going to happen?
01:06:33
Speaker
Well, we've talked about this before.
01:06:36
Speaker
There is some burnout to this, which is why we have taken the approach where we are.

Challenges and Listener Engagement

01:06:42
Speaker
We're mostly a biweekly show.
01:06:44
Speaker
We occasionally mix it up a little bit, but because we still want to be able to maintain the fire of, hey, I still want to talk about this.
01:06:52
Speaker
There are some.
01:06:53
Speaker
that they have put so much effort and their lives into making the podcast that I think eventually they just run out of steam.
01:07:00
Speaker
And so that's been our approach is to, Hey, we're both quite busy.
01:07:06
Speaker
We wanted to make sure that this was still fun and that we were able to still keep the fire after a hundred episodes.
01:07:14
Speaker
But with the way we're doing that, that's, you know, that's still two years away.
01:07:18
Speaker
So yeah,
01:07:19
Speaker
I do want to say thank you.
01:07:21
Speaker
We are out of this category.
01:07:23
Speaker
We are once again, one of the top newcomer in this category.
01:07:27
Speaker
I'm very humbled by that.
01:07:29
Speaker
I mean, I respect the crap of everyone on this list for the product that they put out.
01:07:35
Speaker
And it blows my mind that we came in above Slam Tilt.
01:07:38
Speaker
Slam Tilt, you guys are fantastic.
01:07:40
Speaker
Like we might be polar opposites in how we do our shows with us being family friendly and
01:07:46
Speaker
You guys not.
01:07:47
Speaker
I don't want us to put it.
01:07:48
Speaker
But it's awesome.
01:07:51
Speaker
When you listen to Ron and Brace, you have to laugh.
01:07:53
Speaker
I mean, come on.
01:07:54
Speaker
You do.
01:07:55
Speaker
They're fantastic.
01:07:56
Speaker
They really are.
01:07:57
Speaker
But I'm very humbled.
01:07:59
Speaker
Even at just 5% of the vote, I am shocked that 4.9% of the vote actually went wrong.
01:08:06
Speaker
towards us because i know i voted for myself i know scott voted for us yeah so i don't know who else who else did it but thank you guys like thank you for saying you know what everyone else on this list loser kid is my favorite out of these other not even just these 10 i mean how many podcasts are are out there and so thank you so much all right let's move on best artwork the monsters very well deserved yeah it
01:08:37
Speaker
I actually think it should have been bigger.
01:08:38
Speaker
You think?
01:08:41
Speaker
Yeah, I think that Munsters really was by far the best complete package out there.
01:08:48
Speaker
And when you saw the art, everybody was blown away by the artwork of Munsters.
01:08:53
Speaker
And I, I, I think it suffered a little bit in that, um, one, it came out, it was the first of the year last year.
01:09:01
Speaker
And so people have forgotten how great the art is.
01:09:06
Speaker
Um, they, uh, you know, Franchi has his own show now and like people really, I think that people undervalue what he does because he makes it look easy.
01:09:19
Speaker
He makes it look like, oh, well, you just took some stock photos and put it together in a pretty way.
01:09:26
Speaker
No, that's not really what he's doing.
01:09:28
Speaker
He's actually making... He is re-envisioning how a good style guide should be.
01:09:39
Speaker
Because if you look at most style guides, they're actually pretty bad.
01:09:43
Speaker
And this is... I love...
01:09:48
Speaker
what Willy Wonka was able to do, but I think they were pretty constrained by what the style guide was.
01:09:55
Speaker
You know, I, I mentioned, it looks like, it looks like a cereal box.
01:09:59
Speaker
If you were to buy Wonka O's at, at the Walmart, that's what you would get.
01:10:05
Speaker
But Franchi has been able to name a bad Franchi art, art package.
01:10:12
Speaker
You can't,
01:10:13
Speaker
Because they're so good.
01:10:15
Speaker
So I think people just forgot of the impact of that.
01:10:21
Speaker
And maybe it was just because it was a simpler game.
01:10:25
Speaker
And so people don't have it as much in their collection.
01:10:28
Speaker
It's not in their forefront.
01:10:30
Speaker
But it really should have had 50% of the vote.
01:10:33
Speaker
I agree.
01:10:35
Speaker
Well, and, and honestly, I think it's awesome.
01:10:37
Speaker
Franchi, we love what you do.
01:10:40
Speaker
Um, art wise, uh, super awesome pinball show wise.
01:10:44
Speaker
I think this is a situation where like he's been the bridesmaid.
01:10:48
Speaker
Like finally it's your turn to be the bride.
01:10:50
Speaker
I think it's awesome, dude.
01:10:51
Speaker
So,
01:10:52
Speaker
Yeah, when you look at the other things too, and there's some great things on here.
01:10:58
Speaker
Elvira did a great job.
01:10:59
Speaker
That's a classic.
01:11:01
Speaker
It's a classic feel that they were able to not make it feel dated, but still made it feel relevant to Elvira.
01:11:09
Speaker
Black Knight did a great job.
01:11:12
Speaker
I love the art on Black Knight because it feels the same thing.
01:11:15
Speaker
It's an updated version of an old thing.
01:11:17
Speaker
The comic book Star Wars edition.
01:11:22
Speaker
If you are into that comic book style, you are going to buy that style because it does.
01:11:29
Speaker
And really, most of these are still very good.
01:11:35
Speaker
We are past the Game of Thrones days where it was a, okay, cut, paste, and move on.
01:11:42
Speaker
You know, the sticker by number situations.
01:11:46
Speaker
Yep.
01:11:47
Speaker
So last two categories, I'm just going to lump them together.
01:11:50
Speaker
Best play, fill, gameplay and layout along with game of the year.
01:11:54
Speaker
Both very deserved Jurassic Park.
01:11:56
Speaker
And it blew the competition out of the water with almost 50% of the vote on both categories.
01:12:02
Speaker
Yeah, I really haven't heard.
01:12:05
Speaker
And I'm sure that there are people who nitpick on things, but I haven't heard a negative thing on this.
01:12:12
Speaker
I also have an update on my quest for a Jurassic Park.
01:12:17
Speaker
I have been talking to the guy who customized my Iron Maiden, or excuse me, my Iron Man, and also my Tron.
01:12:27
Speaker
And Josh has played my Tron, and I...
01:12:32
Speaker
I spent way too much money doing fun stuff to it.
01:12:35
Speaker
But if you look at our picture, that's actually John playing, Josh playing my Tron.
01:12:42
Speaker
And I talked to him over the weekend and he sent me some pictures of a Jurassic Park that he customized and it looks amazing.
01:12:49
Speaker
So I'm in the works of trying to obtain a premium so I can send it to him so he can blingify it and make it look amazing just like my Tron.
01:13:01
Speaker
So that is the update there, but I'm super excited.
01:13:07
Speaker
The pictures that he sent me on his own personal one are amazing.
01:13:12
Speaker
I agree.
01:13:13
Speaker
So if you have a, if you have a premium out there that you're bored of, because it's an awesome game, go ahead and send it to me.
01:13:22
Speaker
So that wraps it up.
01:13:23
Speaker
Congratulations, Keith, Owen, and team.
01:13:27
Speaker
That is awesome that you guys rolled out Jurassic Park and won as much as you did.
01:13:34
Speaker
Not a shocker.
01:13:36
Speaker
Before we wrap this up, we do have some extra t-shirts.
01:13:41
Speaker
And I want to give one of these bad boys away.
01:13:44
Speaker
And Scott and I discussed this.
01:13:46
Speaker
We're going to try this.
01:13:48
Speaker
I know you got some time on your hands.
01:13:51

We want you, if you want to be submitted into this contest to get a free t-shirt, we want you to go to Zencaster.com, Z-E-N-C-A-S-T-R.com and record for us 30-second, minute-long clip of a couple.
01:14:10
Speaker
You can choose what you want to record, but we want to hear either your favorite pinball story or how you got into the hobby or maybe one of our...
01:14:20
Speaker
one of your favorite moments of us on this podcast.
01:14:23
Speaker
And we're going to, we're going to put that all in and we're going to submit it for the next episode.
01:14:27
Speaker
So that way we can see and select someone for the t-shirt.
01:14:32
Speaker
The way you can record this is if you have an Android phone, you can record it directly from your Android phone, right onto the site.
01:14:39
Speaker
If you don't want to go that complex, if you want to, you can just record just a voice clip on your phone, send it to us.
01:14:45
Speaker
Loserkidpinballpodcast at gmail.com.
01:14:48
Speaker
or get ahold of us through Facebook, whatever it may be.
01:14:50
Speaker
But let's do that.
01:14:51
Speaker
Let's give some of these shirts.
01:14:52
Speaker
Let's give a shirt away.
01:14:54
Speaker
If you do want to buy a shirt, I did misquote.
01:14:57
Speaker
I said it was $32 for the shirt.
01:14:59
Speaker
The people that made the shirts for us did misquote me.
01:15:01
Speaker
They're not that much.
01:15:03
Speaker
If you want a shirt, they are $25.
01:15:06
Speaker
So just as much as our hat, just as much as our striped beanie.
01:15:09
Speaker
Yeah.
01:15:09
Speaker
And they just add shipping on top of that.
01:15:11
Speaker
Yeah.
01:15:12
Speaker
yeah and if you buy more than one thing heck that's only paying shipping once so i do have more hats i do have more beanies i have just a couple of shirts i don't know if you guys saw our post a couple weeks ago or last week we did ship out a lot of shirts um i spent some time in the post office um other than that i think that pretty much wraps it wraps it up for us scott what do you think
01:15:35
Speaker
Yeah, I think so.
01:15:36
Speaker
And we're hoping that this is a fun episode for you guys to think about all the positive things that are going on, because, you know, the economy will come back.
01:15:45
Speaker
The work will come back.
01:15:47
Speaker
The social distancing will go away and we'll be able to resume our lives.
01:15:54
Speaker
But we're hoping that this just reminds you why you like pinball, what you're missing about it and what you're looking forward to when you come back.
01:16:02
Speaker
And let's try to just focus on the good things.
01:16:06
Speaker
Focus on the things that we're missing, but things that we are looking forward to do again.
01:16:11
Speaker
And being excellent to each other, being nice, and being able to find that common ground and put some quarters in a machine all together.
01:16:20
Speaker
Agreed.
01:16:21
Speaker
If you want to get a hold of us, whether it be for entering the contest or if you want to just reach out and say hello, you can reach us at loser kid pinball podcast at gmail.com or on Facebook at loser kid pinball podcast, Instagram, wherever, wherever you want to go.
01:16:40
Speaker
So hit us up, send us that request, send us that submission or to say hello or whatever.
01:16:48
Speaker
Just give us positive feedback.
01:16:49
Speaker
I don't care.
01:16:51
Speaker
We want to hear from you.
01:16:52
Speaker
Like I said, we do have products still on the shelf if you want to buy a couple things.
01:16:55
Speaker
We don't have a ton, but get a hold of us.
01:16:58
Speaker
Other than that, I think that pretty much wraps it up.
01:17:01
Speaker
I hope you enjoyed the Twippies as much as we did.
01:17:03
Speaker
It was fun.
01:17:04
Speaker
I'm very honored.
01:17:05
Speaker
Thank you, Patterson, for letting us be a part of it between the videos and whatnot.
01:17:10
Speaker
And also, congrats to everyone that was submitted into that thing.
01:17:16
Speaker
There's a lot and lot into this hobby now.
01:17:19
Speaker
We keep saying this is a niche hobby, but the Twippies go to prove there's plenty of room for people to join and have fun with us.
01:17:30
Speaker
So...
01:17:30
Speaker
Yeah.
01:17:31
Speaker
And I also want to give a shout out to all the small people out there.
01:17:35
Speaker
There's a lot of boutique shops out there who are trying to sell stuff and, you know, send a few dollars that are away.
01:17:43
Speaker
I actually went on Stern's website.
01:17:44
Speaker
I bought one of their awesome shirts.
01:17:46
Speaker
I actually bought two shirts.
01:17:47
Speaker
I bought a hat.
01:17:48
Speaker
I bought a key chain.
01:17:51
Speaker
Jessica DiNardo has the soft plunge.
01:17:54
Speaker
Go ahead and support her.
01:17:55
Speaker
That's her main source of what she is into right now.
01:18:00
Speaker
Things like the mod companies like Measlemods.
01:18:04
Speaker
I'm going to put in an order for stand-up splints because my splint seems to move around.
01:18:10
Speaker
So find something that you need right now and try to send a few dollars to these people or
01:18:15
Speaker
because you know what they will appreciate it because right now they're hurting just like everybody else.
01:18:20
Speaker
And even that $50 out there, um, will, will help out immensely.
01:18:25
Speaker
So again, reach out, let's try to stay together and we'll see you in two weeks.
01:18:30
Speaker
Agreed.
01:18:31
Speaker
Oh, one more thing.
01:18:32
Speaker
Support Texas pinball festival.
01:18:33
Speaker
It may not have happened this year, but they still got product on their store, on their website.
01:18:38
Speaker
Go, go support them as well.
01:18:39
Speaker
So we can have a Texas pinball festival for next year.
01:18:42
Speaker
Yeah, absolutely.
01:18:43
Speaker
Yes.
01:18:43
Speaker
That is part of the swag that you can reach out and buy.
01:18:46
Speaker
Go ahead and do it.
01:18:47
Speaker
You know what?
01:18:48
Speaker
Well, thanks again, Scott.
01:18:49
Speaker
It's always fun, man.
01:18:50
Speaker
Yep.
01:18:51
Speaker
Thank you again.
01:18:52
Speaker
We'll see you in two weeks.
01:18:53
Speaker
See you in two weeks.
01:18:56
Speaker
Shut up and sit down.
