Game Overview: Relaxing Driving Experience in Scenic Settings

00:01:20
Speaker
game. Well, yes, you are a little delivery driver for the about the game. I'm going to read the about the game from their press kit just real quick, just so we can get like a a brief understanding.
00:01:33
Speaker
Easy Delivery Co. is a relaxing driving game with definitely no secrets. You've been hired as a delivery driver in a once lively scenic mountain town now plagued with inhospitable weather. make deliveries and uncover a story of a the town's not at all mysterious residents, all while earning well below minimum wage.
00:01:51
Speaker
Um, I found this game because it had a little K truck. And I don't know if you know anything about vehicles, but my ass loves a K truck. Um,
00:02:03
Speaker
I love K truck. I've loved K truck for years. I've wanted a Honda Acti for so long. um And the truck in this is literally modeled directly after a Honda Acti, which is one of my favorite K trucks. I like a Honda Acti. There are a couple of different varieties. A Subaru sandbar really nice. I do like, uh,
00:02:24
Speaker
Mazda's little guy. They've got a variety of adorable little trucks. I love these little trucks. I want one so bad. It's really funny because I think you are the only person in my life who I personally know that thinks about K-Trucks at all. Obsessed with these stupid little trucks. Yeah, no. I know that they're definitely thing.
00:02:45
Speaker
They are a thing. There are plenty of people out there who love them. I am one of the many. um i have been ah obsessed with them for years and years. I've thought that they're so cute and cool. um But in this, I saw it on a screenshot and on Twitter post long ago, back when Twitter was Twitter.

Development Journey and Inspirations

00:03:04
Speaker
Actually, it might not have been Twitter. It was it was a long time ago because this game this game's been in development for years.
00:03:12
Speaker
It's out of development. It was in development for a couple of years. I don't remember exactly. it came out in 2025. Okay. We'll get there. But I saw this little picture of this adorable truck on a mountainside in this kind of sad, haunting, beautiful, silent hill, Resident Evil, low poly ass mountain. And this little low poly K truck.
00:03:39
Speaker
With this little low poly mountain and this like little kind of somber, nice place just really caught me. I was like, oh, that's really cool. Is that a game? And then I looked into it and yeah, they were they've been developing this for a while. I watched them develop this for a little while. And when it came out, it was so cute. It is originally developed...
00:04:02
Speaker
I'm getting way ahead of myself. I didn't write notes this time. i was kind of winging No, you're good. structure is off. This episode and the next episode, we both when we sat down to record, were like, I don't think either of us were writing notes, right? Right. So, yeah.
00:04:14
Speaker
We're freestyling a little bit more than usual. We're freestyling a little bit. For us, insane. But. is. Yes. We're very, we're usually, I wanted to see what a more organic episode would feel like, but. No, I get you.
00:04:27
Speaker
we can We can see some of the downsides of that. That's fine. Cool. So, taking it back to the top. yeah Easy Delivery Co. is a small indie game originally developed to be a racing game by a man named Sam C. Sam Cameron, or Samron Cameron, if you will. Samron Cameron...
00:04:46
Speaker
um this is his only video game he made it as his capstone project out of college it was supposed to be a two-person racing game in unity just to kind of get a feel for the engine and as he developed it he found kind of a love for going really fast down a mountain which boy don't we all love going fast down a mountain in a slow car That feels like a base human experiences. I love going so fast and having to put no effort into it, just flying down the side of whatever path.
00:05:20
Speaker
Yeah, dude, it's so fun and it is really, really cute. um It's very inspired by Animal Crossing. It's got a little bit of inspiration from some of those like low poly.
00:05:32
Speaker
I'd say Silent Hill because it's like if you look at screenshots of it, there's this like overwhelming ever present fog that's like snowfall that's happening. It looks everywhere.

Gameplay Mechanics and Experience

00:05:43
Speaker
Yeah.
00:05:44
Speaker
It is gloomy. There are it like it said there. This was a once lively scenic mountain town now plagued by inhospitable weather. It is constantly snowing and you are just delivering some some packages. You spawn in next to a little fire.
00:05:59
Speaker
You hop in a car and you start driving. ah You have a little app on your phone, just like Amazon. You get or more DoorDash than anything. um You get little deliveries that pop up.
00:06:10
Speaker
Someone's asking you to grab something somewhere, drop it off another place. You drive, pick up your delivery, pop it in the back of your truck, and then... Fucking haul ass and beat cheeks until you get to the other place. It's so fun. Just absolutely racing and ripping around in this little K truck. Um,
00:06:32
Speaker
It's so cute. It's so fun. ah oh it was published by Oro Interactive, which I had never really heard of, but I do know a couple of games from them. They've been popping off a little more recently. There are more more modern developer, though. They started in 2024 is the oldest game that I see that they've published.
00:06:51
Speaker
But the most recent two. or two of the most recent three are very, very popular and familiar to people with roadside research, a little alien ah gas station game and super battle golf, which was like a really popular like streamer game that I saw around for a little while.
00:07:07
Speaker
Um, but yeah, it's been really neat to see some of these smaller publishers and smaller developers put out some really interesting little pieces. This one really, really grabbed me. i love racing games. I love very scenic and kind of,
00:07:25
Speaker
melancholy atmospheres if you will um i i like it to be like a little gloomy i think it's a little i think it's nice it just feels cozy to me and if you are of that ilk this will feel really nice um if you're not the mystery of it all hopefully will propel you through because there is quite a bit happening even though nothing much is happening you unlock and learn a lot about this town and some of these people and some of the people who came before you Um, which I think is so neat.
00:07:58
Speaker
I love when a game has a story that you're in the middle of you, you didn't get to see the beginning and you get kind of get to pick up some of the pieces and learn a little bit about the world as you go and learn about the events that happened prior to you getting there, as well as the events that you're going to make happen as it, as it continues on.
00:08:18
Speaker
yeah.

Game's Accessibility and Replay Value

00:08:21
Speaker
I really, really dig the vibe that this game throws down and the HUD and so much of the aesthetic of it is so well put together. It it all kind of ties in really well, even though it's hard to say why, because I'm trying not to necessarily spoil the big reveal because it is.
00:08:44
Speaker
Once you know it it, kind of makes sense. It's it's pretty cool. OK, yeah. But yeah, you're a little guy. You run around and you talk to some of these people ah in different spots. You've got shops and places. You're delivering between different venues. And there's a ton of different NPCs. They're all kind of in their own little building. um You pop in. You get a little chat with them. You deliver some stuff. Earn...
00:09:10
Speaker
probably not enough money for all the work that you're doing but enough to keep your car going um and you get to drive like a madman which i adore i really wish that had wheels had wheel support because i love my little racing sim setup it's very fun i like getting to drive real fast in it and this would be super killer with a wheel but i fully understand as like a first, uh, first published game wheel supports kind of a lot because there's a lot of different ones and it's hard to get compatibility with the lot of them instead of just like a select few. And then that gets frustrating where it's like, well, I've got support for like two wheels. Cause that was a lot of coding. yeah,
00:09:54
Speaker
And if you don't have that wheel and you spent hundreds of dollars on your other wheel, it's like, well, that sucks. So no wheel support at all, I guess is the best compromise. There are some mods on thunderstorm that you can do to get wheel support kind of sort of it's, it's a work in progress. Um,
00:10:11
Speaker
But yeah, I love this like very simple, very short game. Again, like I said, last my last episode, I am the queen of short games. This game I didn't 100%, but I only played like I did beat all three of the main stories. There are some like hidden stuff and things that I didn't quite get that are Kind of a little tedious, I'm going to be 100% honest. There's like little snowmen hidden in the snowstorm that you have to find to get one of the achievements. And I didn't want to deal with that.
00:10:41
Speaker
But I played like five hours of it, beat the whole game a couple of times. I've played it a little bit here and there, just kind of on and off because it is one of those like You don't necessarily have to stop playing it when the story is beaten. You can kind of keep just going. and it's And it's a nice environment. And some of the characters have extra voice lines and things like that or text lines because they don't.
00:11:00
Speaker
It's not voice acted. But um yeah, you get to chat with them a little bit more. And I always like getting to come back and chat with my little friends I made in ah in a game. I think it's nice to get to check in. Nice.
00:11:15
Speaker
This does check that box for me, which I do really love. um Yeah, dude, this game is so cute. I really wish I would have written notes. Goodness. That's fine. it's It's interesting to me because this feels like it fits in the the way you're describing it. It's it's maybe not.
00:11:34
Speaker
It doesn't quite fit this as much as the first impression. But this idea of because you've covered other games that hit similarly on what I'm about to mention here. This idea of like a thing that you do typically for work, like something that's not necessarily yeah enjoyable.

Real-Life Delivery Driving: Enjoyment and Challenges

00:11:50
Speaker
It's something that people have to do to like have a livelihood.
00:11:54
Speaker
taking that and gamifying it and finding like the kind of heart to it or the enjoyable things. And at the same time, turning it into a version of itself that is the more entertaining side of it and leaving out all of the, you know, grueling reality of it. I i just, I think that's really interesting. And I think you also have a knack for picking up on that kind of game and and finding, finding the ones that are really worth loving. And I think that's very cool. Yeah.
00:12:21
Speaker
That's very fair. um That is one thing that I do find to be fascinating because I do see even more games than what I normally talk about because there are other ones that I do think are neat. Like a trucker simulator is also like that's someone's job and kind of a not super fun livelihood. But a lot of people really love to do it in the game space.
00:12:44
Speaker
So much so and so accurately so that I've seen people build out like full... dashboards and things in their homes to drive a big rig at their house and it like they have doors and chairs and like a full dash it's kind of crazy i don't really i find that intersection to be really fascinating honestly because where does the game stop and where does the game begin because if you put one of those people into a trucker job would they be as happy
00:13:17
Speaker
Probably not. Almost definitely not. But what, why is the simulation so fun or like farming simulator, I guess is a lot easier because you're not going to get all sweaty. Um, but like even still like, where do these, that is a thing that I love playing. I do really love playing. don't,
00:13:37
Speaker
But the secret to that is i did work as a delivery driver for eight and a half years of my life and I loved it I really did love delivery driving. i thought it was so fun.
00:13:50
Speaker
And if it made more money and I didn't barely scrape by every single month and i didn't have to rely on the a kindness of others to survive because it's 90% tips,
00:14:04
Speaker
um i probably would still be doing it i i really really like delivery driving um that's one of the things that i've talked to uh my wife about a couple of times is that there it's it also kind of depends on where you're at globally on what jobs are kind of treated like that because it's not every gas station but i do see a lot of videos of like gas stations in japan where they seem to be paid a little bit better because they really care about their job.
00:14:33
Speaker
They seem to find some really great enjoyment in it. And it's really cool to see some of those jobs that aren't necessarily glamorous because I think the really shitty thing about delivery driving is usually you're on this huge time crunch. Usually you are having this huge like...
00:14:48
Speaker
internal struggle of finances and it's the stuff around the job that sucks but the job itself is actually kind of fun when you boil it down if I didn't have the time crunch if I didn't have all the stuff I'm going on a little adventure every single day i go and pick up a box I take it somewhere else I'm completing missions all day long it can be quite enjoyable I It is just very interesting that when you strip away some of the the actual lively stress and make it into the gamified thing, I feel like people would have a lot better time with a lot of these jobs if they just didn't have the real world impact.
00:15:27
Speaker
But that's right. Yeah. Versus gain exactly. And I feel like this does really capture the enjoyment of delivery driving very well. Yeah.
00:15:40
Speaker
Especially when you're one of those pizza drivers that drives like and crazy because I've seen those guys. I've worked with those guys. Yeah, my first day being a pizza delivery driver, I had a ride along with one of those guys and I yeah thought I was going to die. Yeah. um This is that the video game, except there's no traffic. And that is awesome. I love driving with no traffic. That makes huge difference. Oh.
00:16:04
Speaker
Yeah. Um, there are snow drifts

Music, Simplicity, and Development Insights

00:16:08
Speaker
though. And as someone who has lived up North, I know, you know how dangerous a snow drift can be when you're driving a little too fast. Oh yeah. Um,
00:16:20
Speaker
Uh, but yeah, I really love the simplicity of this game. Like, honestly, i don't have a ton to say about it because it is a really simple game. The controls are super easy to understand. The music is phenomenal. I actually really, really love the music in this game. Um, I believe it's really hard for me to tell. There's not a lot on the devs or the development process. The press kit is the only thing that exists. And it's one notion page that has, know,
00:16:51
Speaker
two paragraphs and paragraphs is being generous um there's just not a lot of writing and then you go to sam c samran cameron's page and it says um the about section says hi i'm sam c i'm the solo developer developer of easy delivery co
00:17:11
Speaker
That's it. So there's not a lot of info, but yeah the credits do list Sam C. and Josh C. as the writers. So I believe it's a pair of brothers who wrote the story for this together. I'm just making that assumption. I wish I had more information. There's not a lot on the Internet. I did find out that it was his capstone project through the Wikipedia page. There's a lot of really cool info on this game, but...
00:17:37
Speaker
Okay, a lot. there There is a bit of really cool info on this game, but the majority of it is just... The game is great. It's very, very cool. It received really, really great praise.
00:17:49
Speaker
um And I genuinely think it's worth ah a little bit of a visit. If you really like driving games, you like racing games, you want a solo experience because it is a one-player game. I wish I would have said that a little earlier.
00:18:01
Speaker
you... and you Want to find out what's going on in a nice little mysterious town. Enjoy a couple hours detached from kind of anyone because that's one of the nice things about being a delivery driver is you're just in your car.
00:18:19
Speaker
It's just

Narrative Depth and Existential Themes

00:18:20
Speaker
you. There's no bus. There's no customers. It's you in your car. When you get there, you get out, you chat for a little bit. You get back in your car, you keep going. Jam out to some drum and bass because that's my favorite radio station in this game. There are like a couple, but the drum and bass ones.
00:18:35
Speaker
and awesome. i was going say, if you're speeding down a mountainside, that feels like the perfect soundtrack. Drum and bass or Eurobeat? It's one or the other. and I didn't hear Eurobeat, so we went with drum and bass. um There you go.
00:18:47
Speaker
Yeah, it it is a somber little experience with a really, really wild twist that happens. There is some very, very existential messaging behind this, and it it gets really deep. I really like the way they present the story and God, I really wish I could say more. Maybe I'll talk about it again later on if there's ever any more to talk about. They did make a plushie and it was really cute, but I didn't get it because I didn't see the announcement until it was after after it was sold out. um but Devastating.
00:19:24
Speaker
I know, dude. I was so sad. i was like, oh, that was really cute, but all right, I'll survive without it. Maybe they'll make some more. um But yeah, ah lots of little side quests, lots of fun main quests, ton of fun to play, plenty of replayability.
00:19:42
Speaker
uh multiple storylines really really cool experience i really think that people should play this game i think it's such a cool and interesting story um and such a cool and interesting game to really show some of the the joys of delivery driving um i think that that is a weird thing to say but i think that it it does stand its own two feet because there's just something about it if you've never done it or you've never had the the opportunity to it's ah not really much of an opportunity uh but it's so fun i really loved it i loved getting to go on little adventures and getting to explore new regions of town and getting to see inside of new buildings or onto because i did catering i got to go and like inside of like raytheon's headquarters and shit like that and i'm like i'm not supposed to be here um
00:20:30
Speaker
Yeah, it's I got to deliver to like Raytheon and like Air Likid and Lockheed Martin and a couple of other like have to go to like a military, a couple of like missile like. oh No, I know what you were kidding. We've talked about this before. That's crazy.
00:20:47
Speaker
Yeah, that's wild. I got to go inside of ah Texas Instruments campuses like three different times. I've i've seen in the backside of there is a a warhead like the shell manufacturer. They make like the casings for missiles and warheads near my town. I got to go to the back lot of that. I had to do a full security clearance. They had to search my car. i got my ID taken. I got taken to the backside. You go on little adventures. I got to cater all sorts of weird places. I've been to the headquarters of Interstate Battery and Chili's.
00:21:22
Speaker
i got to meet this like a lot of the board members of Chili's, which is weird. i'm really sorry but I know this is a very big deal, but you did just mention like Raytheon and Lockheed Martin. And then, oh, yeah. And then Chili's.
00:21:38
Speaker
But it's also one like meeting ios during the like Vine explosion of the like guy going, in the hi, welcome to Chili's. And I was like, I every time I went, I was so tempted to be like, do y'all know about this? Have y'all seen this? you heard Y'all watch this video?
00:21:55
Speaker
Meanwhile, they're like, if she says welcome to Chili's one

Personal Delivery Stories and Game Nostalgia

00:21:59
Speaker
time. hi welcome to Chili's. out of here But like you get to go and see some weird. I love delivery driving. It is a little adventure every day. Every day is different.
00:22:12
Speaker
And I kind of miss that. I actually still have a lot of that in my current job. um but This gets to show you a little touch of that. There are little things for you to explore, different places to see, different people to talk to, and like little places where you can kind of drive off and like sneak away from the deliveries for a little bit and check out a cool area, which I did a lot.
00:22:33
Speaker
I wasn't supposed to, but had a great time. i found a bunch of really cool parks and yeah, don't let my boss, listen my ex boss listen to this episode. He'll be a little salty at me, but he'd laugh. What's your ex boss going to do?
00:22:45
Speaker
Yeah, he gave he'd get a kick of that, honestly. Hi, Brandon, if you do ever listen to this. Yo, what's up? um But yeah, you should play Easy Delivery Go. Honestly, this mess episode's been a little bit of a mess, but...
00:23:02
Speaker
That game is so good. just Just check it out. I feel like anyone who has like two and a half, three hours to spare can blast through this game. I didn't even like make it very direct. It's not a very long game. I think that honestly, if you like really like just played through the story, you'd probably beat it in under an hour.
00:23:21
Speaker
Um... It's so funny to me. I know we've covered this before extensively, but it's still like to some people. I know that's not a selling point, but that does sound fantastic. How how quickly you can get through an experience like that.
00:23:35
Speaker
I love games that I can beat in like sub six hours. If it's a sub six hour game, I can. That's a weekend. That's a weekend game. I can just sit down and play through it on a weekend and be done with it and be like, wow, that was an awesome experience. It's like watching a movie.
00:23:51
Speaker
Exactly. It's like, i know I will be able to get to the end of this. Like, and by the time what happened at the beginning. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know. I love that. I think that that's so awesome. So if you like that, Easy Delivery Co. is definitely a great add to the list. um Check it out. It's it's a phenomenal time.
00:24:10
Speaker
I think that's all I really got to say about it.

Conclusion: Praise and Recommendations

00:24:12
Speaker
Very cool. Yeah, I love it. youve You've got me kind of reminiscing about being a delivery driver as well. I didn't don't think I had quite the same experience as you did, but it was admittedly very nice. just yet like but in some For me, it was podcast. right I'm less of a music guy, more of a podcast guy when I'm driving, specifically, and that was very much like I caught up on all my adventure zone and stuff like that. dude yeah I listen to a ton of podcasts, a bunch of music ah but i was driving like when i was delivery driving i was in gulf gti at first which is a hot hatch with a turbo so ah it was a manual as well so i was ripping around the around my town and i almost said the town i live in um you good
00:24:57
Speaker
And then eventually that car died and I switched to a Chevy Cobalt SS, which is also turboed out. And I was again, manual transmission and just ripping around town and having a freaking blast smoking, which, uh, and listening to some music way too loud and slinging pasta to places. i should not have been while on substances. I probably shouldn't have been on while there. yeah,
00:25:27
Speaker
Yeah, my experience was pretty different from that. Although I will say between the two of us, it is funny to know that I am the one who had a a car totaled mid delivery driving career. Not doing that on the job, but between with the story you just told and me being like straight laced, I'll have one weed bleed.
00:25:48
Speaker
but no dude i was uh i was like actively smoking while driving that was really bad i was very stupid i will never do that again and i do not drive inebriated at all anymore i was like 19 i'm sorry to the world right everyone was 19 once but everyone was 19 once and everyone was no not everyone was a stupid delivery driver with bad impulse control but i did have a great time right loved it I never got into an accident while delivery driving, even though I was driving kind of like a maniac.
00:26:19
Speaker
I never got into any trouble. Yeah, I did get a ticket that I forgot about for like 12 years, but we got paid off now. um Yeah, ah I guess that counts as a rambly outro for sure. I mean, if you want it more rambly, I don't know what to tell you.
00:26:38
Speaker
ah Thanks for listening. Thanks for joining. I hope you had a great time listening to me ramble. I hope that I have a better script the next time because I don't think that the organic episodes are quite what I'm looking for. But I think we are doing just fine. I had a wonderful time. I we're having having a great time. Yeah, I have another recommendation to check out. It looks lovely. It sounds lovely.
00:26:58
Speaker
call this a can't wait to get next episode. Yeah, dude. Check out Easy Deliver Co. Other than that, I've been Allison. I've been James. Bye!
00:27:09
Speaker
Sorry, I tried something new and don't think it worked.
