Introduction and Host Dynamics
00:00:31
Speaker
Keeper, where we talk about it all. From superheroes to wrestlers, we stand tall. and Kevin, the dynamic duo inside.
Emotional Movie Experiences
00:01:25
Speaker
Hey, what's going on? Not much, man. How are we doing? Doing right. Doing all right. Started off the show this week with a question. Is there a movie or yeah mostly movie? Is there a movie that That is so emotional that you cannot watch it anymore. Maybe you watched it as a kid.
00:01:44
Speaker
Maybe it's something that just hit you so hard that you just cannot stand to watch it anymore as an adult. even Even when you were a kid, you just couldn't watch it because it just made you too emotional.
00:01:56
Speaker
I have two. i was thinking of two. Maybe South Park, bigger, longer, and uncut. That's because your dad walked out. Off the top of the my head, I can't think of one now.
00:02:11
Speaker
I had two. One weird one. Turner and Hooch. When the dog dies at the end. I cannot watch that movie anymore. The other movie is Robin Williams' What Dreams May Come. I cannot watch that movie anymore.
00:02:28
Speaker
Because it just tackles death and that's way too... Way too real. um I just can't watch them i can't watch the movie anymore. It's a good movie, but I had it on VHS in the ninety s It's just one of those movies I cannot get through.
00:02:43
Speaker
I tried to watch it a decade ago. I cannot do it. The only thing I can really think of is listening to a podcast or something this morning. something Somebody had mentioned emotional movies. yeah Those are probably the two I can think of off the top of my head.
Dexter Resurrection Analysis
00:02:57
Speaker
Let's get into two on what we watched this week. watched quite a bit. um Including the penultimate episode of Dexter Resurrection. The show was great.
00:03:09
Speaker
On par with early seasons of the original Dexter run. and we're going to be getting to some heavy spoilers. um Skip a for about... Give us 30 seconds just to talk about this one thing then you continue.
00:03:23
Speaker
Um, Batista has finally met his end after almost 20 years on television. 19, I think I saw it today. Um, he met his match being shot down by Prater.
00:03:39
Speaker
um Yes. David Zaz, Zaz's, whatever his name is, talks about how it was the right move. Obviously, that's probably the only reason he came on the show is to give a fitting editing ending to that character in particular. and He is seen between him, Dexter and Mazzucca, the only three surviving members of Metro PD right now.
00:03:59
Speaker
Quinn. and Well, from the first season is what I was going get to. Because Quinn joined, what, third season? Yeah, third season, I think. Yeah, third season. yeah um after And we still have... And the the speculation that I had at the beginning of the season is saying that if something happens to Batista, Quinn is going to be on a manhunt next season.
00:04:21
Speaker
Got me very excited for season two of this show next year, depending on what happens in the finale next week. um Yeah, once he finds out something happened, there's going to be some repercussions next year or whenever that season comes out.
00:04:36
Speaker
Seems like Dexter comes out every year. They have no problem coming out the old school way of every year a television show. Yeah, seems like it. I mean, they filmed both of them last year, so they dropped them almost back to back between Original Sin and this one, Resurrection.
00:04:51
Speaker
Yeah, but this episode was great. um Praetor found out that Dexter is who he is, which we kind of figured was going to happen, all because of something that Batista said.
00:05:01
Speaker
Batista told him he was Dexter Morgan, pretty much. And Praetor was on the hunt ever since then, and even tried to entice Dexter to be part of his squad with um Uma Thurman.
00:05:20
Speaker
but Yeah, finale setting up something great next week and I cannot wait to talk about it and we'll see and we'll talk about next week.
Alien Earth and Character Development
00:05:27
Speaker
um Alien Earth, episode 4. Show is great.
00:05:34
Speaker
Confirmed what you said last week, that the aliens equal the crocodile. it was actually said on screen. um The other thing, the end of the episode, Wendy, that the lead girl, um is an alien whisperer.
00:05:46
Speaker
One of the aliens is birthed, and it looks like just like a worm, and it comes up up to her, and she just kind of pets it. And it's a pet now to her.
00:05:58
Speaker
ah Interesting to see how this turns out. Not many episodes there are in this season, but interesting to see where the show is going with the whole Peter Pan connection to it, which is weird in itself and everything else to be interested. I'm interested to see where this goes.
00:06:13
Speaker
um lot of people are shitting on this. don't know why at this point. I don't know why. But overall, everybody says the series is is great who's seen it. So we'll we'll keep an eye on it and we'll we'll report back.
Peacemaker Season 2 Insights
00:06:26
Speaker
Another great episode of Peacemaker Season 2. Not as good as last week, but it's great. Directed by Greg Mottola, who directed one of my favorite shows, Undeclared.
00:06:38
Speaker
Probably my favorite show of all time. Superbad, my favorite comedy of all time. Paul, another great movie. um He also is a co-producer of Dave, the show that you love on FX. He's done a lot lot of luck lot more stuff than that. He's done TVs, done movies.
00:06:56
Speaker
um But he directed this episode and episode three, which we'll talk about next week, which James Gunn is praising pretty highly. um Episode three being great and lots of action. um Beginning of this episode, Peacemaker has a body to dispose of, so he asks Vigilante to help him get rid of the body in the Pocket Universe.
00:07:18
Speaker
And Vigilante's face when he's chopping the body up into pieces of the Peacemaker 2, he's giving a smile on camera as he's chopping it up into pieces.
00:07:29
Speaker
It's fantastic. Great addition to this season is Tim Meadows. I can't remember his name in the show, but he has bird blindness. He can't tell if Eagle is an eagle or a duck, which is fantastic. The jokes in this, him him and Economos working together in this season is going to be a treat for the fans.
00:07:49
Speaker
um Already was in this episode when he's rubbing his shoulder the whole entire time he's talking to him. um And he's just great. Tim Meadows is a great underrated SNL. He's probably, for me, top 10 SNL actors that came out of that show.
00:08:04
Speaker
um Underrated. The Ladies' Man underrated movie, even though, i mean, it's not a good movie. It's just funny. Eagly versus the Argus Agents.
00:08:15
Speaker
Yep. Great, great fight scene with Eagly actually being the victor in this fight. R.I.P. Titties, which is one of the agents that he kills.
00:08:26
Speaker
The Tim Meadows name Titties. It's a woman. um And Chris escapes to the other universe to find the other Harcourt. He has the phone of the other Peacemaker that he killed.
00:08:37
Speaker
And he goes, he's drunk and he goes into the door and he escapes into, i guess they're calling it Earth 2 sometimes. i don't know what they're really calling it, universe. But um he escapes over there and he he texts hardcore from the other universe.
00:08:52
Speaker
And she responds back with a broken heart emoji. And that's where the show kind of leaves off. Setting up a peacemaker in the other universe next week. And the trailer shows him. flying around on the cool Peacemaker motorcycle and everything in that universe. So, cool treat next week. The episode, I believe, is something about Rick. I can't remember. Tale of Two Ricks or something.
00:09:14
Speaker
I can't remember what the name of next week's episode is. Speculation that he's going to be either Rick Flag Sr. in that universe or Rick Flag Jr. is going to show up and Joel Kinnaman could be in the show next week. Who?
00:09:27
Speaker
I have feeling that maybe in this universe, Rick Flagg Jr. is now with Hardcore. Yep, yeah that's the rumor, because she's dating a jarhead. Yeah, she's dating a jarhead. um David Deniman, Keith, his alter ego in the comic books confirmed a quick thing and on the in the library with his nameplate. His name in the in the show is Captain Triumph.
00:09:51
Speaker
A character I had no idea about until this. And it's a Golden Age comic from way, way, away way, way back. um And that's him right there. um Lance Galliant, of course, they retconned this whole entire thing. But his whole entire thing is he had a twin brother who died.
00:10:07
Speaker
And he could combine his powers with his twin brother and become Captain Triumph by touching this weird tattoo or birthmark on his hand. And he gets the powers of Captain Triumph. Very, very strange Golden Age comic book.
00:10:21
Speaker
But right up there with all those other Golden Age comic books. Same type of trope. And supposedly that's what David Deniman, Roy from The Office's character, is Keith. So yeah, we'll see how that plays out. there was In the trailer for next week, um he's seeing he's seeing our Peacemaker.
00:10:39
Speaker
And he's drinking with him in the library. And he's like, are you alright? Because he kind of seems like there's something wrong with him. He's not the same Peacemaker. He's not, so something's off with this piece. me Right. So it's an interesting to see where that's going to go.
00:10:51
Speaker
But yeah, it's great show so far. James Gunn's been teasing these DC cameos at the end. um He said, said one in one art interview this week, we have some really big, big stars from the DC universe that are going to be near the end of the season.
00:11:03
Speaker
I'm not sure if they're stars that we've seen before from Superman or if they're brand new characters coming in um that are going to be going forward in the DCU going forward. so Very exciting.
00:11:17
Speaker
Very exciting week-to-week show. If you've not seen Peacemaker, it's on HBO Max. um Very, very, very good show. Probably the best show on television at the moment. um And cannot wait to see how this season plays out.
Reflecting on Band of Brothers
00:11:31
Speaker
um We are at the 80-year anniversary of Band of Brothers. Well, the end of World War II, pretty much. The show came out 25 years ago.
00:11:43
Speaker
um This was on HBO, miniseries. Came out on September 9th, 2011. Debuted the Sunday before nine eleven um And the ratings did not actually take a hit from that. Everybody was kind of home. It was a very patriotic time in America.
00:11:58
Speaker
So it was it was still being watched pretty heavily. ah Ratings were huge. Critics love this show for obvious reasons. It's ah it's a great, great show.
00:12:08
Speaker
um Executive produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks. um Using the same film crew and visual effects and techniques from Saving Private Ryan, which came out a few years before.
00:12:19
Speaker
um Music by Michael Kamen, who did the he done a whole bunch of stuff. Lethal Weapon, I believe. He did the Metallica S&M. the whole concert with the with the orchestra, he did the orchestra part of that, he passed away reese and after this, but had been one of his final projects.
00:12:35
Speaker
um Talked about the invasion of Normandy all the way up until Germany's defeat, Hitler escaping liberation of a concentration camp. Tackled a lot of stuff in World War II in these ten episodes. was great.
00:12:46
Speaker
But the main thing about this show, um came out in 2001, was the that it made Starz. was the cast that it made star the The lead star of this show is Ron Livingston, one of the lead stars, who was already in office space at the time.
00:13:04
Speaker
And I got my cat out. i got to put him over Was already in office space, so this is kind of the follow-up to what he did after that. Damian Lewis, who's been in a whole bunch of stuff. He's he's still in stuff now.
00:13:16
Speaker
um He was a star of this show. David Schwimmer, right out of Friends, right in the middle of Friends. I believe Friends was still on the air at the time. Donnie Wahlberg. Donnie Wahlberg. Who is on TV now. He does Blue Bloods. I believe he's in a spinoff of Blue Bloods. But before this. Of course New Kids on the Block. But before this the only other acting thing I think he was in. Was The Sixth Sense. Where he was a very quick cameo.
00:13:40
Speaker
Who didn't even even look like like himself in that movie. But um. Michael Cutlitz. Cutlitz. um We just talked about in Superman and Lois.
00:13:51
Speaker
He was in this show. Very very young. He's in The Walking Dead. Michael Fassbender. Of course, Magneto, new class of X-Men, ah first class of X-Men. Simon Pegg, cameo in this as well. this is right before This is way before any of the Simon pla Pegg and Nick Frost stuff.
00:14:08
Speaker
um James McAvoy, same thing, way before X-Men, way before Wanted, way before all those movies made him a star. ah Jimmy Fallon, right in the middle of SNL. Colin Hanks, of course, with Tom Hanks producing this, you figure his son, who's just getting into acting, would be in it, and he was in an episode.
00:14:25
Speaker
ah Tom Hardy looked like a twink in this show. Very, very gaunt. Had the only sex scene in the whole entire show. Dominic Cooper was in the beginning, quick cameo, and same with Tom Hanks, a very, very quick cameo. It would blink and miss. If you know to where to look, you'd find him, but The cast was huge.
00:14:45
Speaker
um allll named A lot of these guys all named. First first acting role they had. um Great show. It's on HBO now if you want to watch all of it. um Have you watched The Pacific? I know that's the kind of the spiritual success successor to this.
00:14:58
Speaker
That was the one on Apple TV, right? No, i think that's I think it was on HBO too. It came out like 2010, I believe. But it's it's the same same deal where it's set in The Pacific. They came out with one like two years ago with Austin Butler. That was same crew that was from the band and other people. that's cool. I didn't know that. And watched that. That was on Apple TV.
00:15:17
Speaker
That was good. I talked about the podcast up until Austin Butler died. Okay. Spoiler. And then I stopped watching. yeah i Yeah, I'll have to look into that too. But yeah, a great show. Worth watching on HBO Max if you want to watch along with that.
The Irishman and De-aging Technology
00:15:33
Speaker
A movie that I watched, I've been holding off on for a while just because I heard so many bad things about And I started watching it when it came out in 2019. And I was not impressed with the first half hour. But I did get through it last weekend. I watched The Irishman.
00:15:47
Speaker
um Huge cast, Martin Scorsese, 2019, bringing back... De Niro bringing in Pesci, who hasn't been in a movie at that point probably 20 years.
00:16:02
Speaker
Al Pacino, all of the three of them together, huge actors in the 80s, up until up into the nineties all of them together, already have it written on the wall, oh yeah, this could be a great movie, but the first half hour when I started watching this, first came out Netflix, I was just not into it, but got into it last weekend, and actually did enjoy this movie, it's all about Jimmy Hoffa, and how he goes missing, did you have a chance to watch this whole movie when it came out, six years ago? Yeah, it's fucking awful, it's terrible.
00:16:34
Speaker
yeah it From the beginning, i did feel like that, but actually watching it, I didn't feel that way when I watched the whole thing. um the The worst part about it was the de-aging, especially for De Niro, because he's very slow, and you can tell they can de-age him all they want, make him look like he's 30, but when he's walking with a hunchback, you can't really hide that.
00:16:57
Speaker
um yeah but yeah um It was okay. It's on Netflix if you want to watch that. um Speaking of horrible movies, here's a review
Critiquing Jurassic World Rebirth
00:17:05
Speaker
of the week. Jurassic Park, Jurassic World Rebirth.
00:17:09
Speaker
um Wow. First of all, the movie starts off with a failure of this facility because of a Snickers wrapper. Snicker Wrapper goes into a vent and destroys the security of this whole entire facility where they're mutating dinosaurs and destroys all of the things that are keeping the dinosaurs in check.
00:17:33
Speaker
yeah And that's how they that's how they that's how they got loose. It was boring as hell. There's really no story to this. Even the dinosaur designs, like if you look at that poster, like the I think they call it a dominant, what do they call it? A T-Rex? I can't remember what they called it.
00:17:47
Speaker
But it just looks horrible, the design. It just looks like a bad design. Tyrannosaurus Rex meets raptor. It's just awful. um If you don't know what the movie's about, it's basically they're off they're off the island the main island of Jurassic World, Jurassic Park.
00:18:04
Speaker
And they were mutating dinosaurs. They already have the dinosaurs mutated. i mean, they've already created the DNA and the rebuilt the dinosaurs. But now they're mutating into different versions, different kinds. um it just was but It was a boring movie. And the designs of the dinosaurs were awful.
00:18:23
Speaker
The actors were not that good. that the I like Mahershala, but... he' Out of all of it, probably the best part of this movie, and that's not saying much, but ah two ah two out of three for me. It was not good.
00:18:35
Speaker
um Yeah. i don't i'm I think this may have been even worse than the last movie with the locust, and that's saying a lot. and don't know. I think this one just having Scarlett Johansson makes it slightly above that one.
00:18:47
Speaker
Maybe, maybe, yeah. The low-guess one was just awful. but we This is the third one in a row. This has been absolute trash. so Yeah, yeah. Like, drastic. I mean, let's just be honest. it In general.
00:19:00
Speaker
The franchise only has one good movie, um which is an all-timer. And, I mean, for the time, the second one was cool. And then Jurassic World was just a fun reintroduction, which I like Jurassic World a lot. um It's like a, don't know, I enjoy that movie a lot for what it is. Me Because it's like the park is actually working and shit like that. Plus, it came out, I got the 3D, like, DVD of and shit like that, so cool watch on Yeah.
00:19:24
Speaker
Yeah. It's just a fun... At least that was just fun. and it has Chris Pratt. The last three have all been just fucking terrible. Yeah.
00:19:35
Speaker
Jurassic Park is a classic movie. it's it's it's not even in the park It's not even in the realm of the rest of the movies. this that's It's like one of those... It's just one of those movies that just stands on its own.
00:19:46
Speaker
And they just try to bleed the hell out of that franchise as much as they can. And people... and The thing is... People go to the screens, people go to the movies and see these movies. This movie made a ton of money in the box office. going to still go see it.
00:19:59
Speaker
don't know what they're expecting from it i don't know if they're expecting another Jurassic Park, but um we haven't got it. We haven't gotten another movie like the first one that came out in the They've been getting worse and worse, except for Jurassic World, like you mentioned. They've been worse and worse as time goes on.
00:20:15
Speaker
um But yeah, not not a good movie. um An okay movie, but it seemed like there was a lot missing to it 28 years later.
28 Years Later Preview
00:20:24
Speaker
um Setting up the sequel mostly, this seemed like a first part, and we already knew going in there, there is a sequel coming out, and I believe in January, called The Bone Temple, which gets set up in this movie.
00:20:37
Speaker
But um Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Cormier... um Zombie babies, which was a weird weird twist in this movie where a zombie baby was born but didn't have any tendencies of a zombie. He was born from a zombie.
00:20:54
Speaker
The father was the alpha zombie, which was even a stranger. Ralph Fiennes was this doctor who' who's kind of in this own secluded area who has this big, huge bone temple with a whole skull tower.
00:21:10
Speaker
um Jack O'Connell has a cult at the very end of this movie. Jack O'Connell was in Sinners. Great movie. Great in that movie. um Setting up what he's going to be doing in in the sequel that comes out on January 16th, 2026. The thing to note about that movie, this movie was also produced by him, but Cillian Murphy is going to be starring in that movie along with the survivors of this movie. Aaron Taylor Johnson, the kid who is the main star of this ah Ralph Fiennes all survived this movie and are going to be joining Cillian Murphy in that movie called 28 Years Later, at The Bone Temple. And that comes out January 16th of next year, like I said. But um overall, um see it just seemed like a half a movie. And it's probably like a three and a half out of five.
00:21:55
Speaker
um Yeah, and I just i want to see what's going to continue with it. um It was a decent movie, though. I do you want to see the conversation, though. It's like if you're watching a whole movie, it's the first act of that whole movie. It's basically what this movie... um I enjoyed it a lot.
00:22:12
Speaker
oh Yeah, it was good. I can't wait for the next one. We'll all be able see this in theaters. Because it's coming out in January and there's fuck all to see in January. Nope. Nope. Nothing new. We'll try to catch that in theaters.
Eminem's Stan Documentary
00:22:23
Speaker
ah And last, before we get into news, a great documentary, probably one of the better ones I've seen this year, stands on Paramount+, plus all about Eminem and his fans and the fandom around him. um And it was fantastic.
00:22:39
Speaker
Uh, it's on Paramount Plus if you want to watch it. It was in theaters, uh, I believe earlier in the month for a week, but, um, you can watch it at home and it's great. Um, brings in all of the fans, all of his fans, not all of them, but some of them, um, who are very, very fanatical with him and have tattoos and change their name to Marshall and Stan and it's It's just a great documentary talking about the psyche of celebrity and how people run to celebrities and and and worship them and think they are more than human, think they're superheroes, and how a celebrity like Eminem, who is, at this point in his career, is recluse, is in his home all the time. He cannot go anywhere because he's just hounded.
00:23:26
Speaker
talks about that a lot. um It's a great documentary talking about that and how he can't have a normal life. And how he has consequences with his daughter. And you already you already know. If you listen to the music of Eminem. already know all of this. But it deep dives into his life a little bit more. Than what normally is told. these very He's very calculated calculated. In what he puts out into the media. And what he puts out in general. To the to the world. About his personal life. so um It's very very good. It's on Paramount Plus if you want to watch that. With that being said.
00:23:59
Speaker
Let's get into the news.
Sci-fi Romance on Apple TV
00:24:07
Speaker
And it's not a new segment of the trailer, aren't it?
00:24:11
Speaker
Two trailers. First one I want to talk about is a movie called All of You, Apple TV movie um starring Brett Goldstein, Imogen Poots. um but I think Brett Goldstein has a deal with Apple TV. That's why he has all the TV shows and he's got movies coming out.
00:24:28
Speaker
This is kind of a sci-fi romance story. Set in a world where you can figure out with a blood test or with some sort of a test who your soulmate is.
00:24:40
Speaker
And... ah He is in love with her, and she is she just wants to know who her soulmate is. She follows this test and it ends up not being Brett Goldstein.
00:24:51
Speaker
But he's so in love with her, and he's watching her fall in love with who supposedly is supposed to be her soulmate, and that's how the story is going to be played out in the movie. but um It's going to be on Apple TV+, plus so it's something we can watch at home. It comes out at the end of September, September 26th, so just a month from now.
00:25:07
Speaker
um So we may watch that. We may talk about that when it comes out.
Chad Powers Comedy Overview
00:25:10
Speaker
Another show streaming, by the way, no trailers this week in theaters, all streaming stuff, but this one is a show we've been hearing about for a while starring Glenn Powell coming out on Hulu on September 30th called Chad Powers.
00:25:24
Speaker
I know a little bit more about this movie now. I'm not sure if it's based on anything, a book or a real life or what it is, but it's about this guy who was a football player who kind of gets blacklisted out of a football league.
00:25:37
Speaker
And in order to join another football league, he disguises himself when he looks at a poster of Mrs. Doubtfire, disguises himself as a character he creates called Chad Powers and joins another football league and becomes a superstar.
00:25:50
Speaker
it ah It sounds like a spinoff of an SNL sketch, to be honest. It does. It really does. It looks like it, to what's like it too. yeah I'm excited for it. like Glenn Powell. so Me, too. and I really do like him.
00:26:02
Speaker
look yeah um Yeah, so...
K-pop Demon Hunters Review
00:26:07
Speaker
Yeah. Box office last weekend. Weapons number two. $15.6 million. Friday. $9.2 million.
00:26:14
Speaker
freakier friday nine point two million dollars K-pop Demon Hunters, a Netflix movie that came out a month, two months ago. 18 point something million plus in its opening weekend. Winning the box office. Becoming Netflix's biggest movie of all time.
00:26:35
Speaker
And then becoming Netflix's biggest streaming of all time. I've seen this movie. Have you watched it? have you had any inkling of watching this movie all? Why the fuck would I watch this movie?
00:26:46
Speaker
Why the fuck would I watch this movie? Give me one good reason why you would ask me if I watched this movie. Because of the hype. Everybody's talking about it. Kids are watching it. Everybody's watching this movie.
00:27:00
Speaker
It's okay. It's a decent... For what it is, it's not in our realm, not in our demographic at all. Music is great. Visual, it's number one, it's an anime movie that's turned into like a 3D anime.
00:27:13
Speaker
I did not know anime went 3D, but it does. It looks great. Stunning. Colorful movie. It's on Netflix. um So you can watch it for free. um Yeah, and it was an okay movie. I actually like the music. Very, very catchy.
00:27:27
Speaker
Some of the story is very good. It's ah kind of a sci-fi where these K-pop singers become demon hunters, and their song kills demons, and they go and kill and slash demons. It's a fun movie. when you're If you did not know this was K-pop, if you did not know it was...
00:27:45
Speaker
anime, it looks just like a regular Pixar DreamWorks movie. You know K-pop is in the name, so it's impossible to not know it's about K-pop. Right, if you did not know that, if you're just watching it off the side and you just saw a movie, it looks like a Pixar Disney movie.
00:27:57
Speaker
It just does. um It's like a 4 out of 5 for me. I really did like enjoy this movie. And they're going to be making sequels of this movie too. It's, it's the, it's, it's for the current generation for what was power ranges for us or Pokemon, a generation after us.
00:28:15
Speaker
It's the new obsession for people right now. Um, especially girls. Um, so call me a teenage girl, Kevin, but it's an okay movie. It's, it's, it's fine.
Superman Film Box Office Update
00:28:25
Speaker
um James Gunn's Superman has reached a box office total of $344 million dollars domestically.
00:28:32
Speaker
um This has allowed it to surpass the Aquaman movie, which is the biggest DCEU movie in America. ah So yeah, it's doing okay. Now if only we could get people overseas, people could only you know get excited about it overseas, we'd be okay. yeah but America really isn't seeing the very bright light ah overseas right now and da represent rubb they think Superman represents America, so here we are.
00:28:58
Speaker
And the box office in general is just horrible for movies and the stuff that we love. Yeah, yeah. So, yeah.
Hooters Rebranding Discussion
00:29:04
Speaker
Yeah. um Fantastic Four, still in theaters, not on digital, no roadmap on when it's going to be out, but $490 million mark worldwide.
00:29:14
Speaker
The budget was $200 million. Second week of November is my guess possible for Disney+. for disney plus I think it'll be out sometime in October maybe for streaming, don't know.
00:29:26
Speaker
Yeah. ah Rest in peace to Jerry Adler. If you're a fan of The Sopranos, you watch The Sopranos. Jerry Adler was hesh. He was the kind of the guy that worked on the side and helped Tony do a lot of stuff.
00:29:40
Speaker
96 years old. New York native. Was in that show every season. Rest in peace to him. um Hooters. Rest in peace to asses showing out of those shorts. In an article that came out this week by the new owner, new CEO of Hooters, who's not doingโHooters is not doing well.
00:29:58
Speaker
um They went bankrupt. They're coming back. um The previous owners filed for bankruptcy, and the new owner said he made it clear that things are about to change. In quote, I don't think you're going to see a bunch of butt cheeks hanging out and things like that. He's also banning waitresses from hula hooping or sitting down with customers, saying it's crossing the line.
00:30:19
Speaker
They're trying to sell wings, not dreams anymore. What's the tagline of this article that I saw? hooters So they're basically going to become Buffalo Wild Wings. That's essentially what they're going to try to do.
00:30:31
Speaker
um This makes sense, I guess, in today's landscape. In this climate, yeah. Hooters, for us, when we were growing up, was basically like going to a strip club before old enough to go to a strip club.
00:30:42
Speaker
We used to go to it before pretty much all the wrestling pay-per-views were events in Boston, area was right? It was right next to the Fleet Center, so it easy access. Yeah, used to go to that one all the time. yep um But yeah, this I mean, it makes sense, I suppose, and the climate. And, you know, they weren't doing well with that, so why not try to change things up? Because they do have decent food.
00:31:02
Speaker
Some of their food's didn't miss, but for the most part, it's pretty good. Although, so recently, they've changed the recipe in a lot of stuff. And ah the last time I had wings there, probably a couple years ago, they weren't that good. Yeah, it was when me and you went. The ones I got were really good, and then the ones you got were trash.
00:31:20
Speaker
Yeah, they i changed the way they battered them or something. You did, yeah. I went there last fall and got their boneless, and they were really fucking good. I forget what sauce I got, though. Okay. But those are really good.
Upcoming Movie Releases
00:31:32
Speaker
It's just some of the things you โ like, I remember that because you ordered whatever you got, and I got, like, the Daytona wings. The Daytona ones were really good, and whatever you got wasn't that good. Some their sauce, like, if you go like, the mild sauce, it's, like, way too buttery.
00:31:44
Speaker
um I love their mild. Their mild sauce used to the best. Was it their mild or โ Yeah, whenever we went and I got i got the Daytona wings, I got like a boneless something, and the sauce was just like two. It was like all butter and like no actual like buffalo in it.
00:32:01
Speaker
See, i'm I'm more on the butter side, as you can tell. um um Got new character posters for Only Murders in the Building coming out on September 9th on Hulu.
00:32:12
Speaker
um All four of the main characters of that show. Cannot wait. I love that show. Cannot wait for the new season. um I know going to want to talk about this. Yes. New show coming out on Netflix on October 3rd.
00:32:26
Speaker
The Monster Series. Monster Series. I don't remember. and The first one was with What's-His-Name, who was an X-Men who played... Evan Peters. Evan Peters. Evan Peters, which was fucking amazing. best show was That series season was awesome.
00:32:41
Speaker
I couldn't get through that. What was season two? I don't remember. That's what I was trying to think. this is Is this season four oh or season three? Oh, the Menendez brothers. Okay, this is only season three. was thinking this was season four, and that's why.
00:32:53
Speaker
Yeah, the Menendez brother really good. I do recommend you watch that one. It's not nearly as graphic. It's very good. But this one, because it has my boy. Well, this one has, first off, it has my boy Charlie Hunnam from Sons of Anarchy. He's great.
00:33:05
Speaker
Second, it's about Ed Gain, who has inspired all my favorite horror movies. ye Two, when this poster came out, I immediately got home from work and watched an hour and a half documentary on Ed Gein.
00:33:16
Speaker
Because I knew most of the stuff about him, but I wanted to refresh before this comes out in a month. yeah um This is going to be incredibly hard for people to watch. Not going to lie about that.
00:33:28
Speaker
um Ed Gein, to say he was a monster is... It's weird because like he's like one of the most well-known serial killers, but like i don't know if he's even a serial killer because he only killed two people.
00:33:41
Speaker
um He was mostly into robbing graves and using the skin he got from graves as masks. um yeah Which became the inspiration.
00:33:52
Speaker
which became the inspiration of ascar yeah um But yeah, he Norman Bates, of course, oh was based on him because he had a mother complex. But he basically he had these these two suits. He had like five or six masks of women that dug up.
00:34:08
Speaker
And he had a full-on body, like, woman's, like, skin suit would wear and just switch out the faces. um Which became the inspiration for Buffalo Bill from Sines the Lambs. Buffalo Bill, yep.
00:34:20
Speaker
Yes, exactly. So this is going be very hard, I feel like, for people to watch. I hope you give it a go. and if you Oh, I definitely will. I love Charlie Hunnam. You definitely will give it a go? okay Oh, yeah, definitely. Good, good.
00:34:33
Speaker
oh Yeah, because he's fucking great. and He was the only reason besides Zack Snyder that I was looking forward to Rebel Moon that he got fucking got killed. um And, yeah, I can't wait. October 3rd, I cannot wait.
00:34:47
Speaker
um I will get home from work and probably watch three or four episodes, I'm guessing, because I'll be out by 8.30. um So I cannot wait for that night. um Yep. And it's three weeks from work closing, so yay.
00:34:59
Speaker
Awesome. Got a brand new poster for Tron Legacy. coming to IMAX 3D and it's coming out in the end of October. um They're going to be showing that as a but you can go if you want to see the new Neutron, Tron Ares that comes out the end of October, middle October.
00:35:16
Speaker
um They're going do a double double play in IMAX where you can see this one and then see the second one after. I think, um I don't know because you're going out of work if you want us to do that.
00:35:27
Speaker
It may be worth seeing both that. We both want to see Tron Legacy and Tron Ares. IMAX may be the best way to see these. If you want to take a road trip, it's to you. yeah two We may. We'll figure it out.
00:35:40
Speaker
Yeah, it's also hard. I got another movie we're going to talk about in a minute. We may want to take a road trip for IMAX or 4DX, too. We'll talk about that in a second. but I'll tell you one thing. If they re-release Sinners, I will make that trip to IMAX this time because I'll have time.
00:35:53
Speaker
Last time, Sinners came out right before.
Star Wars Starfighter Casting News
00:35:55
Speaker
Oh, Sinners. I said they if they release Sinners and IMAX, I will make the trip because that came out right before went on vacation, so I'd have a chance to see it in IMAX. That would look great, yeah. Ridley Scott says he's working on Gladiator 3 right now.
00:36:07
Speaker
um I hope it comes out a little bit sooner than the 20-year gap he had between 1 and 2. Yeah, we should be on Gladiator 12 at this rate. Yeah, at this rate, yeah. But yeah, he's kind of fast-tracking it by the sound of it.
00:36:21
Speaker
um Cobra Kai creators are bringing back Knight Rider... As a movie, um the star of that movie was David Hasselhoff, but how the star of that movie, let's be honest, is the car.
00:36:37
Speaker
Kit, right? Yeah, Kit, and what's his name? William Daniel, who is, of course, Mr. Beanie, did the voice of Kit. Oh, did not know that. I haven't seen Knight Rider in fucking 35 years, probably.
00:36:51
Speaker
um Yeah, interesting to see what kind of a... They're saying they're bringing a modern car ah to do it, so i''m interesting to see how that plays out. Joining the cast of Silent Night 2 coming to theaters, Danella Mecalor, I don't know who that is, but Kristen Bell.
00:37:09
Speaker
Yes, you do. You know her. She's one of the cat's true in Suicide Squad. i didn't recognize her route all the wraps around her um yeah so yeah that sat and violent night very very good movie david harur um coming back to emily santa claus great movie saw in theater um great casting talk about him anthony paul ah paul it know about a movie i know a little bit more about the movie too will talk about it but has joined the cast of they syvester stallone movie i play rocky
00:37:42
Speaker
The film follows a young Sylvester Stallone um in the journey to create the first Rocky movie. um The story of that basically was ah the studio did not really trust Sylvester Stallone to make that movie. You may know him more about this than I do.
00:37:57
Speaker
um And he's like, well, I'll take a pay cut and we'll take a budget cut if you let me come in and play Rocky. um yeah And that's basically how the story happened. And he kind of did the same thing for the second one.
00:38:09
Speaker
for directoral directorial duty director duties for the second movie. I know that. um But this kid, not unknown particularly, he was in The Offer. He played Al Pacino.
00:38:20
Speaker
So he's playing he's played two famous we're going to be playing two famous Italian actors with Italian heritage from the 70s. Yeah, I cannot wait to see this. I love stories like this.
00:38:32
Speaker
I was going to I love, like you just said, the other one. Yeah. That shit is so good. Yeah, inside stories. So really looking forward to this. Yeah. Yeah, me too.
Back to the Future Celebrations
00:38:41
Speaker
um And we got some confirmation of who's joining the cast of Star Wars Starfighter. And we get the first picture of of Ryan Gosling and the kid, the main kid who's going to be starring in this, sitting on a what looks like a sand speeder or a speeder of some kind.
00:38:57
Speaker
um And joining the cast of this movie, number one, our boy Matt Smith, um Number two, we already knew that um Maya Goff was in this.
00:39:12
Speaker
And we know that and now that Amy Adams has joined the cast. as well as Aaron Pierre, who we have both kind of fallen in love with as an actor yeah in the last year and a half, especially now that he's in lanterns playing, John Stewart. So, um, and yeah, this is a whole full cast of who's joined it. So very, very exciting.
00:39:35
Speaker
Um, and we'll be talking about that more when we learn more about the movie, when we get a trailer, ah not even sure when this is coming out, uh, right off the top of my head, but, uh, Currently in production. Just started this week. So very exciting.
00:39:48
Speaker
This is what we need to talk about, Kevin. Back to the Future. Coming back to the theaters for the 40th anniversary on our October 31st. Also, for the very first time, coming to IMAX.
00:40:03
Speaker
But we will be seeing that. Also, coming for the very first time 4DX. Mm-hmm. d x Do we have a 4DX around us?
00:40:15
Speaker
There is one in, it I believe, Stratum. The Stratum Theater. There's a four d movie. I'm not sure if it's going to play there or not. But I think it's a universal thing that can be played. Not just 4DX. It can be other I think it's owned by Regal, that name. But it can played in other theaters that have the 4D experience.
00:40:33
Speaker
But... um We need to plan on at least the IMAX if we don't see it in 4DX. Yeah, definitely. Never seen that in IMAX. I did not expect it to be in IMAX, but yeah. um Speaking of Back to the Future, they announced the 40th anniversary blura four k Blu-ray.
00:40:51
Speaker
I am not a digital. I'm not a physical owner anymore. i haven't bought a physical DVD in a while. But it always seems like Back to the Future is always the one that brings me back into movies.
00:41:03
Speaker
I bought the DVDs when they came out.
New Pop Culture Merchandise
00:41:06
Speaker
I was the first one there. I bought the Blu-rays when they came out. I was the first one there. um This set looks incredible. It comes out in a 4K slipcover, just a normal plastic case that you see everywhere.
00:41:18
Speaker
Nine hours of bonus features. I believe eight discs. um But the thing that we all want that we want to talk about is this exclusive like collector's edition with a whole bunch of shit.
00:41:32
Speaker
um Comes in a steelbook, of course, with the flux capacitor. um And you open it up and you get the the all in in the the the the time circuits of everything inside the the inside of the DeLorean...
00:41:47
Speaker
It also comes with a replica of Marty McFly's guitar. little mini replica. And a whole bunch of archive replica ah from the movies.
00:41:58
Speaker
All of the movies. From the license plate to the Save the Clock Tower to the Jaws 19 poster to the letters that... Emmett Brown wrote to Marty from 1885. A whole bunch of stuff.
00:42:13
Speaker
Some of the stuff we have, there's also the newspaper um that we have, the the USA Today, a little mini-verse of that. Some of it came with the book we got, too. Similar stuff came with the book. yeah um And the UK is getting a whole bunch of stuff, too. They're getting exclusive stuff. They have blueprints and some of it is coming in in envelopes with written by Dr. Emmett Brown. Do not open till 1985, 1955 and which is really, really cool. eighteen yeah it It's really, really cool looking on the UK ones as well.
00:42:47
Speaker
This comes out in October. I've already pre-ordered, although it's $150, I've already pre pre-ordered the one on Amazon. Kind of highly priced, but I know i'm going to regret not getting it if I get it.
00:43:00
Speaker
I'm hoping that the price goes down a little bit before it actually comes out because ah Amazon has a pre-order guarantee. I'll have to wait and see on that. ah so Where are we at now?
00:43:11
Speaker
um Let's get into some swag. Swag! stuff we all get. Come on, son. You know what that's right. Got these figures coming out. I don't know who they are. Mesco Toys coming out for Batman, the original see the original movie, the 1989 movie, um with the Joker, Batman, the guy with the boombox in that movie.
00:43:32
Speaker
um Very... ah Very cool. The Joker's face changes from ah from the skin to the white face when you put it in water. Face to change face face changes color.
00:43:45
Speaker
So yeah, I don't want to mention that. Got some pop figures to mention. We got the new Alien movie. We got the Zenmorph. We got Wendy. And we also got the sheep with the eye, which we did not mention how this new alien that they introduced in this show is kind of like this eye alien that...
00:44:05
Speaker
rips out the eye of its of the host that it's going to attack and kind of inserts itself into the eye socket and takes over the whole entire motion and body of the person, like almost like a zombie.
00:44:18
Speaker
in the In the episode we just watched this week, um it goes into a sheep and takes over the sheep. So they're actually making a pop figure of that. um So yeah. um We got a new Stone Cold Steve Austin pop figure.
00:44:34
Speaker
um Limited to 9,500 pieces. I'm not sure when it's coming out, but it's it's a so it comes with a little, so the what thing on there. That used to be insane in the mid-2000s. And we got some south ah South Park figures as well, pop figures. For the first time,
00:44:53
Speaker
jimmy The handicapped kid Jimmy as a minifigure for fun. so um Deadpool and Wolverine also coming out with their own, from the end of the movie, and their own figures as well when they're trying and when they're saving the multiverse.
00:45:10
Speaker
So yeah, Funko all over the place. Rainn Wilson says he wants to play Plastic plastic Man and in the new DCU, and he's spoken to James
Jackie Chan in Spider-Man
00:45:19
Speaker
Gunn about it. I've hinted to James several times, ah like, hey man, you've got to do something with Plastic Man.
00:45:25
Speaker
um That actually would be interesting. He was in, what was it, Super? Was that the movie that you did? Yeah, he was in Super, yeah. I can't remember the name of it, but yeah, he was in that decent movie.
00:45:36
Speaker
um I like Rainn Wilson. I love Dwight from The Office. Me too. yeah um Alan Richson almost missed this right before we came on, but he said he had conversations with James Gunn about playing Batman.
00:45:48
Speaker
um Initially, kind of turning saying that it's not possible for him to play that character, but maybe something else. Words have been exchanged about Batman, but I strongly don't think that Batman is in my future.
00:46:00
Speaker
I do think that there is something in my future with DC. So I think that's kind of what James Gunn has been doing, talking to people, saying, this character may not be good for you.
00:46:11
Speaker
However, I'm going to keep you on my speed dial and make it back to you. cause There's a lot of other characters that you could be playing. Everybody's speculating playing Arrow after, after this conversation.
00:46:24
Speaker
Um, i say I said that after we saw, uh, you said that too. I saw it all over the internet. I saw it all over the internet today too. Yeah. Yeah. And finally in news, Jackie Chan revealed that ah him and his stunt team are working on Spider-Man Brand New Day.
00:46:40
Speaker
um Quote, I went to London and visited the set. My Jackie Chan stunt team was busy filming Spider-Man and I was the action director for the Jackie Chan stunt team. So he's actually working behind the scenes on that movie.
00:46:52
Speaker
A lot of speculation that he's joining the cast. I don't know who he would play if he if he is in the movie, but love Jackie Chan from early, way, way, way back in the day. Of course, Rush Hour. Dan Ness and Daniel did a great job with Shang-Chi and how that movie was very much a love so love ah love note to Crouching Tiger all the ah other and at Japanese action movies, Chinese action movies back in the day. Yeah.
00:47:20
Speaker
We'll have to wait and see on that.
Watchmen Retrospective Plan
00:47:22
Speaker
um That's it for our show this week. Next week, show and tell, beginning of the month. Also, the day before my birthday. D23 has a showcase tomorrow morning at 9.30.
00:47:34
Speaker
If anything comes from that... um There's to be new trailers, gonna be new posters, maybe some reveals. We'll talk about it next week. um We'll talk about the finale of Dexter. Very excited for that.
00:47:46
Speaker
ah Fifth episode of Alien Earth. I'll about the third episode of Peacemaker, which James Gunn sang a lot of action. Very, very good. One of his favorites for the season. um Wednesday season two premieres on the third Next week, The Conjuring Last Rites comes out. Next the month September, the 9th, Apple is going to announce their phone stuff.
00:48:06
Speaker
and sure i'm gonna watch the whole thing next friday but conjuring last writes comes out not sure im see it in the theatre but didn't want to mention it next month month of the month of september on the ninth apples gonnanounce all their phone stuff Talk about that.
00:48:21
Speaker
On the 10th, a.k.a. Charlie Sheen comes out on Netflix. We'll talk about that documentary when it comes out. On the 12th, Spinal Tap 2. I'm going to probably watch the first one we'll talk about on the podcast.
00:48:33
Speaker
um But also that weekend, The Long Walk. i've been hearing a lot about that movie. don't know what you've heard, but everybody's saying it's great. um And it's ah it's a Stephen King short story that he turned into him that turned into a movie It's got ah Yes, it's got um our boy from Alien Romulus in it.
00:48:51
Speaker
yeah um The guy that plays the Cyborg. He was also apparently in my cousin's fantasy soccer league. So she's been in a group chat with him for like five years and didn't know it until like last year.
00:49:02
Speaker
Interesting. But yeah, it looks good. It looks real good. Yeah, does look good. So we'll see. I hope to get to the theater soon. ye Gen V Season 2 premieres on the 17th.
00:49:15
Speaker
Waltzing with Brando comes out in theaters on the 19th. When that comes out to streaming, we'll probably watch that. um The whole entire series of Marvel Zombies comes out on Disney Plus on the 24th.
00:49:27
Speaker
um And for the month of September, there's two things. Number one, usually the month we watch football movies, but we're kind of out of football movies. So you put me on a task to watch at least the premiere episode of friday nights Friday Night Lights, yeah like um which is a show that you love.
00:49:45
Speaker
talked to me You've talked to me ah years about watching this. Just finished my rewatch. Just finished my rewatch last night, actually, which is like i a month ahead of time. How many seasons how many season is that show?
00:49:57
Speaker
Five. The first one is the only the long one. After that, it goes from 22 to 13 episodes. I think the last two were 11 or 12 episodes. um and They run you through every trope of any sports, anything you've ever watched.
00:50:13
Speaker
and It's just highly enjoyable. um One of the best finales of any show as far as wrapping things up and making it satisfactory for characters. um I just love the show in general. just reminds me of Fall and sports and football season starting up and whatnot. so Yeah. yeah um But the other thing that that we, i mean, you you came up with this idea back six months ago.
00:50:36
Speaker
um The Watchmen has a 40th anniversary next month. Yes. And we're going to tackle everything Watchmen during the month of September. Starting with the movie, the Zack Snyder movie, of course.
00:50:49
Speaker
um I'm going to do a whole watch of the series. I've never watched it. We'll talk about that. We're going to review the Watchmen comic book. Which is fantastic. yeah And also, I was going to mention to you, I think we should probably read Doomsday Clock, the sequel to that that came out in 2017.
00:51:06
Speaker
It's also the crossover to DC Universe and everything. I think it was New 52 that came out. okay So it kind of connects everything to the Watchmen universe. i figure it won I figure we do...
00:51:19
Speaker
one thing per week. Yeah, we I know want to throw the animated movie in there. I don't know if you want to do like week one, do the first movie. Week two, maybe do the animated movie.
00:51:31
Speaker
Week three, maybe do the show and then as far as talking about it, you can watch it whenever you want. And then maybe the week four would be the comics. um I'll be probably starting the comic soon.
00:51:42
Speaker
And I'll try to get to the other one you mentioned. um Doomsday, is it? Doomsday Clock, I've never read that, so. yeah i haven't and Yeah, I'm interested to see. i know I know it's kind of a mix between the DC Universe and Watchmen. I know Superman shows up in there and he meets Dr. Manhattan and stuff. So it's interesting to see oh how that even plays out. Yeah, yeah.
