StreamYard Dilemma and Platform Shift

00:00:33
Speaker
No intro. it It won't let me do it. Oh, that's interesting. Well, welcome back to Geek Board, ladies and gentlemen. This is our first ever cold open. The free plan comes with one example video. If you'd like to share your own videos, upgrade. So they're making you upgrade to play an intro.
00:00:49
Speaker
Ah, well, here we go. Looks like we'll be getting out of StreamYard because that's fucking ridiculous. Welcome, everyone, to an obnoxious start to the show. But jam-packed show, mind you.
00:01:02
Speaker
um Hopefully they don't kick us off. I have no idea what's going on.

Summer Blockbuster Anticipation

00:01:06
Speaker
shit um We are less than a week away from the biggest movie of the summer.
00:01:14
Speaker
In our eyes. Probably the biggest movie of the Probably the biggest the year. It'll be a big money maker no matter what. I fucking hope so.

Geek Collectibles Showcase

00:01:22
Speaker
Let's start off the week with a show and tell.
00:01:29
Speaker
So many geeky things that we could pull off from the shell. We've been collecting shit for years and now we're whipping it out.
00:01:41
Speaker
So it's time to showcase all the money that we wasted well. C'est la vie, c'est la vie, c'est la vie, c'est la vie, c'est la vie.
00:01:52
Speaker
Why don't you go first? Alright, well my father attended the Red Sox game last Monday. So, Superman night.
00:02:04
Speaker
Got me a Superman bobblehead. You really can't see it here because it's still in the box. I haven't taken out yet. Are we taking these out of the box or leave them in the box? I already took mine out. yeah its and I was thinking of doing the same thing. I literally just got home with it. But in the background it has a little Fenway Green Monster thing going on.
00:02:18
Speaker
Crypto, Superman, Red Sox. They had other packages where you get like Red Sox jerseys that had Superman on it. So... yeah Yeah, really cool. I took mine out, put it on my shelf.
00:02:30
Speaker
ah Looks awesome. Nice bobble. Nice bobble to it. um I saved this. I bought this a couple months ago. I saved it for this month in particular for exact reasons that you're going to notice in a second.
00:02:41
Speaker
Of course, let me take my fucking background off I always forget. I um bought a comic book covered by Alex Ross.
00:02:53
Speaker
Oh boy. to It's a large comic book. It is nice Superman um and the Fantastic Four team up. It came out in the 90s. Signed by Alex Ross.
00:03:05
Speaker
um Limited to $7,500. Got a good deal on it about a month and a half ago. it's extra It's extra large as you can see. It's one of those treasury editions I believe they call it. um Really, really cool.
00:03:20
Speaker
Almost magazine size I guess you would say. Comes with a certificate of authenticity. So you know he did it. Like that. Put that somewhere display worthy.
00:03:32
Speaker
So, this week, what we watched.

Marvel's Thunderbolts Review

00:03:36
Speaker
Well, let's start off with something that Kevin finally watched. Kevin watched Thunderbolts.
00:03:43
Speaker
I did. What were your thoughts on Thunderbolts? Uh... I want to say I'd have to rank it out, but I would probably venture to say top 10 Marvel.
00:03:58
Speaker
Yeah, i think too. The fact that it was a Marvel movie that was mostly based on mental illness um was incredible. Because people with mental illness, they have really good days and they have really bad days. And Bob is one of my favorite characters, probably second behind Bucky and maybe Spider-Man as far as those that are left.
00:04:19
Speaker
But yeah, I really enjoyed it. Yeah, very good. and Very good movie. And like and like you mentioned, it's surprising how Marvel handled the mental health aspect of that movie and did a fantastic job with a good Bob.
00:04:31
Speaker
But yeah, a great movie. And I cannot wait to talk about the next movie in the Marvel franchise at the end of the month.

Ironheart Finale and Marvel Connections

00:04:39
Speaker
um But first, Marvel had a TV show that finale had a finale this week.
00:04:44
Speaker
Ironheart.
00:04:47
Speaker
Ironheart, surprisingly, is very, very good. And it's not getting... i don't know if it's because Disney did not kind of gave up on it, which I kind of pissed off at Disney for. i mean, they didn't promote it, like, at all. didn't Didn't promote it, and they split it in two weeks' increments. The hat first half came out last week, and the second half came out this week, and they gave it... They had no... Which, it worked well for Andor, because Andor was 12 episodes versus 6. Right.
00:05:13
Speaker
So it was great for Andor because you get three a week, watch one night, or all three at once, but with this it was like boom, boom, and you're done. But I think I told you off tech on text, it has the same trope that all of these Marvel shows have.
00:05:27
Speaker
It could work as a movie. It could tell the same exact story if it was condensed into a movie. um The first half last week connected to Iron Man. was basically in the origin of her creating her armor and moving to Chicago.
00:05:40
Speaker
The second half, connected all to the mystic arts in Doctor Strange. Dormammu was mentioned a whole bunch of times. um Natalie, this AI that she creates, is her best friend that got killed in a drive-by when she was younger.
00:05:57
Speaker
um She creates this AI through her mind. her her The suit reads her mind, reads her thoughts, and creates the AI through memories of Natalie. In order to add magic to her suit to defeat the Hood,
00:06:10
Speaker
She has to sacrifice Natalie, which is basically and her memory come to life. um And there's a big, huge story about that. i don't want to get into too much of the details, but... um At the end, which we knew it was coming, we knew it was happening, because this has been rumored for ever since its show was in production, I think and since 2021...
00:06:31
Speaker
twenty one think this show was filmed back then. But it was one of those things that got fucked up with the writer's strike, fucked up with COVID. um We knew that there was going to be a debut in this show.
00:06:46
Speaker
Sacha Baron Cohen comes in, plays this mysterious type character, and he actually names himself Mephisto. Um, this has been, ever since WandaVision has been rumored because Wanda had such a connection to Mephisto with creating the children.
00:07:07
Speaker
Um, there's another problem I have with these shows. Um, by the way, at the end of this, he sits down with Riri. Riri defeats the Hood. He sits down with Riri and makes a deal with her to bring back Natalie.
00:07:22
Speaker
So they end up shaking hands and he makes she makes a deal with the devil. Um... Interesting. I would love to see where this continues, but that's my other problem with this show.
00:07:34
Speaker
Is it going to continue? Um... I think Mephisto will be continued because his character casting him is awesome. As you can see in that spoon there when he was stirring a cup of tea or a cup of coffee, you saw the very first glimpse of what he looks like with the red skin as as the actual devil. But, um...
00:07:54
Speaker
Him playing Dormammu, who's been in movies before, he's been in both Ghost Rider movies, has been, and think, was it Fonda, Peter Fonda played him in the first Ghost Rider, and Kieran Hines played him in the second, I think, something like that. but um He's been in the movies before. i mean, he's a devil. Everybody knows what a devil is, and he just did a great job playing this mysterious character coming out of the shadows and making deals with her.
00:08:17
Speaker
um And he has so many, like I mentioned Ghost Rider, he has so many implications of what could happen later. um opens a world for Ghost Rider, opens a world for a third Doctor Strange movie, because this whole magic world got ripped open.
00:08:30
Speaker
And it also could be a follow-up to, and it could bypass all of that, and just do a follow-up movie to a rumored, what's already been rumored, a Midnight Suns movie, which brings back Moon Knight, brings in Blade, brings in Doctor Strange, or Wong, whoever, and does this huge epic adventure-style crossover,
00:08:49
Speaker
Kind of on a grounded level, but with mystic arts and dark arts. um And yeah, you could do a whole bunch of shit with that. you could bring Punisher in. could bring a whole bunch of shit in in The Midnight Suns.
00:09:00
Speaker
And you could make the main villain be Mephisto. that would be the That would be the ultimate thing. But Sacha Baron Cohen being added to the MCU roster. Great win for Marvel. um And i thought I cannot wait. and I hope they treat this right. and this That's the thing.
00:09:15
Speaker
You can tell number one with this show. We mentioned it before that they're kind of slowing down on things, which is great for this show. Because the effects have been some of the best effects in a show in a while.
00:09:27
Speaker
The Ironheart suit in this looked so much better than it did in Black Panther. Looked more on line with what they did with Iron Man back in the day when they had more time to do VFX. um Other than that, great show surprised me because the reviews that were horrible going into it.
00:09:41
Speaker
It also got review bumps, it was hard to decide what... where this was coming from. um But at the end, after watching it, great show. um Top three finale for Marvel, maybe, on the TV show and after the tv show front.
00:09:57
Speaker
um And very happy with how they how they brought in Mephisto in this and making the deal with Riri at the end. recommend you watch it, recommend anybody who loves Marvel, loved Marvel, watch it, because he's going to have major implications in the next phase or two going into Marvel, especially after, i don't think he'll be, I don't know if he'll be in Secret Wars or Doomsday, but I think after that definitely could play a huge part in going forward in the Mutant Saga, but Um, watched another series.
00:10:24
Speaker
I know you probably watched most of it, if not all of it, too.

The Bear Season 4 Cliffhanger

00:10:27
Speaker
Yep, finished. You did finish it, good. Uh, The Bear Season 4. Did get picked up for Season 5. I don't know if I put it in the notes or not. Thank God, yeah.
00:10:35
Speaker
I saw that one right after I saw the finale, so that was good. Yeah, thank God, because it does leave in... One of the first times it leaves on a really big cliffhanger. Yeah. Um, the biggest cliffhanger, because at the end of the show, spoiler, you don't want to know for the next 30 seconds, pause or skip, but, um...
00:10:51
Speaker
The bear decides he wants to retire and leave us leave the whole entire restaurant to, what's her name? I can't remember anything what off the top my head. But he wants to be done because he thinks he's holding the restaurant down because he's so meticulous with the way he cooks and when he does things.
00:11:08
Speaker
um And you're not sure where going leave off next season. I would hope, i was watchinged as I was watching, I was hoping, God, I hope it ends next season. Yeah. Just because it would be a great ending.
00:11:19
Speaker
I do think that'll be the the ending will be next season. i think it'll be the last season. Yeah, it would be a perfect ending for the show. And there were a lot of highs. And the thing about the show, when there's a lot of highs and there's a lot of lows, the lows are really, really low.
00:11:32
Speaker
The highs are really, really high. There's a great wedding episode in this season. Oh, yeah. oh That was a great episode. Very emotional. Brought the whole entire cast together from past. It's always episode seven, too, of every season. it's episode seven, yeah. It was also very, very long, too. it was over an hour. when Most of these episodes are under under or around three minutes. They're about a half hour, yeah. Yeah.
00:11:51
Speaker
But great, and we'll see this again in another year. ah Probably about this time it'll come out from the with the fifth season. so And Jeremy Allen White's becoming more and more... i mean, he's going to have the the Bruce Springsteen movie come out before this. So he's going to be doing big, big things in movies, too, at the time. So we'll see.
00:12:08
Speaker
um We are at kind of the precipice of the year of Superman.

Justice League Comparison: Snyder vs. Whedon

00:12:15
Speaker
Mm-hmm.
00:12:17
Speaker
We're to talk about Justice League. We're going to talk about Zack Snyder's Justice League, but we're going to talk about the two of them, compare them, and we're also going to talk about what happened, where this franchise went from Zack Snyder's universe to a brand new universe being rebooted next week with Superman, with James Gunn's Superman.
00:12:39
Speaker
But first, let's start back in 2017, November and seventeen rewind a little bit and we got the teaser trip we got the teaser poster right there of the Justice League movie.
00:12:51
Speaker
um We also got some other posters for that movie as well with characters. little bit more color. That's weird for Zack Snyder. I'm surprised to see Zack Snyder put color. Well, there's a reason for that. Number one, this is them at Comic-Con, I believe the summer before, talking about the movie. The whole entire Justice League together.
00:13:10
Speaker
um Fuck.
00:13:18
Speaker
they were it was actually co-written by tom king and it was supposed to be directed by camera of the director but it was a really good director was attached Okay.
00:13:29
Speaker
Although the Justice League was initially announced as a two-part film, ah the second part set and released two years after this one, Snyder stated in June of 2016 that they would be two distinct separate films, and one would not be split into two.
00:13:44
Speaker
um It would be ah both standalone stories, and then issues started to arise during production. Right off the bat, They sure did.
00:13:56
Speaker
warner brothers creates dc films and puts jeff johns and john berg um in charge to oversee the dce and the continuity of everything of this shared universe they sure did strike one They issue restrits rewrites throughout production. Jeff Johns caused issues with ah the writer Chris Terrio and the Warner Brothers executives. Nobody was happy.
00:14:20
Speaker
ah Rewrites are happening during filming as well. and They hired this whole writer's summit, bringing in comic writers. um Jeff Johns being one of them. i can't remember who else was in there. but um to overlook um and see what was not worthy, and they were looking over footage as they were filming to seeing what was not worthy enough for the production, ended up slogging down the production.
00:14:41
Speaker
And then in the middle production, Zack Snyder has a faith family tragedy. His daughter kills herself. um And he has to leave production abruptly, which puts a whole entire production like that with millions of dollars on the line in jeopardy.
00:14:55
Speaker
WB has no choice but hire a seasoned director. Somebody who's been kind of known for big franchises. Just did Avengers five years before the first Avengers movie, which was huge for Marvel.
00:15:07
Speaker
um They hire Joss Whedon. And then there's problems. They fucked up too because they, I believe it was Warner Brothers or they leaked it out that Joss Whedon was actually chosen by Snyder when that's they've never actually met each other.
00:15:20
Speaker
so Yeah, there's that smug prick right there. um So he was hired to come in and finish the story, including writing and directing additional scenes in a rewrite and reshoot of the entire massive portion of the film, changing the original direction and completely changing in post-production.
00:15:39
Speaker
um Snyder ultimately retained sole credit as director. so I'm so surprised because these movies are completely different. Didn't realize This is the first time I've watched them back-to-back. Unfortunately, it took me 12 hours because it was double time because I had write notes at the same time.
00:15:52
Speaker
But dc DC Films attempted to correct course of the franchise during this time because they had somebody that was kind of in their wheelhouse seeing over everything that Snyder was doing and they didn't like anything he was doing so he rewrote everything.
00:16:08
Speaker
It culminated in a lot of troubled production and disastrous, just a disastrous release overall of this movie.

Justice League Production Challenges

00:16:15
Speaker
It deviated significantly from Snyder's original vision um and during filming of Mission Impossible Fallout,
00:16:23
Speaker
They asked and Henry Cavill to come in and do reshoots. um They wanted to add a new introduction to the movie of Superman kind of on ah ah on a phone camera. Um, Warner Brothers asked Paramount if it was okay, and Christopher McQuarrie, who directed that movie, from mission Mission Impossible movie, and they asked him permission to shave Henry's beard and mustache off just to film this scene.
00:16:47
Speaker
Um, at first, McQuarrie says, yeah, give us a $3 million dollar fee to cover the post-production and to re-add the mustache in post, and that's fine. Paramount eventually stepped in and said, no, fuck that.
00:16:58
Speaker
You do it. You put the money, you you you take off the mustache. Um, So this is what we got. The very first opening a shot of Justice League, we got this weird CGI removed, digitally removed mustache, which was already a strike one against this movie.
00:17:14
Speaker
Um, Superman was intentionally left out of the early, um, marketing materials. If you remember the trailers, the posters, there was no look cause he died. And of course in, in Batman versus Superman, there was no Superman in the marketing. It was only the other five.
00:17:30
Speaker
Um, And that included the trailers, the clips, the posters. um Even Cavill commented that it was ridiculous and kind of dumb that they did that. um Rightfully so, because everybody knew he was in the movie. um Yeah, but he and the other thing is Cavill joined everybody on the press tour.
00:17:46
Speaker
So it was kind of dumb. um The company also did not opt to delay the film's release after everything had happened. They wanted to keep the date, um which means that they had numerous problems in post-production um and the executives ah wanted to release receive their cash bonuses because of the AT&T merger that was going to be happening later.
00:18:07
Speaker
ah They wanted to get all those cash bonuses in before the merger happened. That's pretty much the reason why there was no delay. um Adding to the cast, and a lot of most of the main cast from Batman v Superman returned, we get J.K. Simmons coming in as Commissioner Gordon. He mentioned last week that um The Batman casting in Zack Snyder's film was pretty much on par. It was great. J.K. Simmons playing Commissioner Gordon was fantastic.
00:18:32
Speaker
um Connie Nielsen coming in to play the queen of Themyscira. she was She was in this movie. I think she was in Wonder Woman 2 later on. Did Wonder Woman come out later this year i was Wonder Woman before this?
00:18:46
Speaker
I can't remember the timeline. Wonder Woman came out in June. Okay, so this was November. Amber Heard. um amber hurt You see her for the first time as Mira.
00:18:57
Speaker
um You see Karen Hines, who plays Steppenwolf. He played two versions of Steppenwolf. The one on the left is the one that's in this movie we're talking about now. The one on the right is in the Zack Snyder cut.
00:19:10
Speaker
ah Completely different CGI used, completely different voice. um But kind of the same henchman to Darkseid. We'll get into that in a minute. um Other casting note, David Thewis, who returns as Ares from Wonder Woman.
00:19:25
Speaker
They use his likeness in the huge battle that happened in the middle of the movie at the beginning of the movie. um Billy Crudup debuts as Barry Allen's father father, Henry, who would later be in The Flash.
00:19:37
Speaker
um And he's also in Watchmen. ah Mark McClure, he played Jimmy Olsen in the Christopher Reeve Superman series. He had a brief cameo as two different characters. In the Justice League movie, he played a guard at the prison.
00:19:50
Speaker
and We'll get into the other character in a minute ah for Zack Snyder's Justice League. but um The beginning of the movie picks up as the world's mourning Superman's loss. Banners hang hung over the London Bridge and over or the Notre Dame. Everybody's mourning the loss of Superman. and You catch up with Wonder Woman. She's working at a museum and trying trying to stop a heist.
00:20:12
Speaker
And we catch up with Batman trying to find the Aquaman who's been doing research for ever since he saw that video in Batman vs. Superman of an Aquaman character. um Realizes it's Arthur Curry and we see ah the very first glimpse of Jason Momoa playing Aquaman, Arthur Curry.
00:20:28
Speaker
so In this Icelandic village, I believe. Kind of showing up there. We'll talk about that little scene a bit. Yep, we will. um And joining this cast... is Ray Fisher, I believe this is his first movie, as Cyborg.
00:20:42
Speaker
And his father, Victor, is there. um They have a little bit of repertoire in this movie, a little bit better in the Snyder Cut. That's the thing about the Snyder Cut. to tell you right now, significantly better. Like, it's a whole different movie better.
00:20:55
Speaker
And we'll get into that in a little bit. but um There's a great scene in this movie, played much better in the second movie in the in the other version, 10,000 years ago. It's the olympic god and thelympian Olympic gods, Amazons, Atlanteans, humanity, and extraterrestrial beings, including Green Lanterns, all joined forces to stop Steppenwolf and his legion of paradigms from conquering Earth.
00:21:20
Speaker
um and they're trying to find them they're trying to to use the Mother Boxes to conquer Earth. we As we see Steppenwolf there leading the charge. This is the Green Lantern they use. Quick scene of him collapsing and falling.
00:21:32
Speaker
The ring comes flying off of him. um And there's three Mother Boxes that were left. After they were defeated, three Mother Boxes are left on Earth. One in Fiamisciara, one in Atlantis, and one was left to man. They were buried somewhere. think it in Italy or somewhere.
00:21:49
Speaker
And that's the one that created Cyborg. We see Aquaman drinking. ah Of course, I don't have that picture here. um Why are my pictures all mixed up? That's weird.
00:22:01
Speaker
um Well, there's Barry Allen, the Flash. why my I'm missing a whole section of photos here. That's weird. um Yeah, that's Barry Allen debuting as The Flash. um Batman throws a batarang, he catches it in in freeze form.
00:22:16
Speaker
um There's Aquaman. Aquaman and Mira. Joss Whedon brought back a small portion of the Batman 89 theme, which I know Snyder was very much against using the past. He wanted to keep this a brand new franchise.
00:22:30
Speaker
I noticed that he also they also brought back Superman's theme in flash in ah backla back at Black Adam, but i'll get into that later So that's a team joining up with Commissioner Gordon on the Roof. Gordon's telling him that Steppenwolf's in some sort of an underground tunnel system ah with one of the mother boxes, and they go and find him. There's a cool flash scene where he uses his powers for the first time on screen, ah going slow-mo through this tunnel, and it pushes the the sword up to Wonder Woman. They're cool.
00:23:01
Speaker
um And to save the day, here comes Aquaman, and they he shows off his powers as the tunnel's flooding. i love that visual shot. Better spter in the Snyder Cut. And they find out that these what these mother boxes actually do. They create a cyborg, like I mentioned.
00:23:16
Speaker
But they can bring back life. And everybody's thinking the same thing. We need to bring him back. This is this powerful force. We need to bring back Superman. um He's kind of dead.
00:23:28
Speaker
But he also, at the end of Batman vs. Superman, we did say that he had a little bit of life left into him because the sand started swimming at the top of the casket. So, yes, I'm planning on what to do to attack Steppenwolf.
00:23:43
Speaker
And they bring back Superman. They take his body out of the ear out of the casket. A picture of Jonathan falls in the catt and the water, and the pre in the primordial ooze or whatever the hell it was in the Kryptonian ship.
00:23:58
Speaker
And Flash has to time it just right to use his speed force to touch the mother box right when it hits the water, right when it hits Superman. He has to get the electric current from his speed force to hit it.
00:24:10
Speaker
And Superman returns. Flies up into space, does a little swing-a-roo, and then flies back to where the monument is, where the whole battle with Doomsday happened.
00:24:23
Speaker
the memorial and he's looking it over and the justice elite come from behind and are trying to calm him down and he's looking see he's looking uh x-ray vision through all of them and he goes to cyborg and cyborg um because he's a whole computer system his computer system starts going crazy he thinking he thinking of threats happening with superman looking at him and he shoots a rocket at him Not good.
00:24:49
Speaker
um And then Wonder Woman tries to get him with a lasso. He reins her in. Aquaman and Wonder Woman try to attack him. Flash tries to go slow-mo around him, and he wins he he looks back and sees him in real time.
00:25:03
Speaker
He can see him because he's Superman. And he tries to attack the Flash. It's great scene, even but better in the Snyder Cut. um And, yeah, that's and then he then in the movie, he runs into Lois Lane. She calms him down. They go to Smallville.
00:25:17
Speaker
um And he kind of tried to find himself, and you're not sure what's going to happen. ah The rest of the team after this, they they they get back together, they regroup, and they want to go stop Steppenwolf, who is now putting these three mother boxes together that he's collected.
00:25:32
Speaker
He's going to create the Unity. And right as he's about to put the unity together, Superman returns. He has a big fight with Steppenwolf, full of color.
00:25:46
Speaker
Like I mentioned, once Joss Whedon took over, um it seems like they wanted to add more color to the Justice League movie. And if you know Zack Snyder, we've talked about he's very, very dark director.
00:25:59
Speaker
Not just the tone, but the look, too. um So... Yeah, they start to, Cyborg starts to try to take the mother boxes apart, and he asks Superman for help, and the and the two of them separate the three mother boxes, destroy them, and we have the scene of them standing over the silo in full Justice League form, the the four of them, the five of them.
00:26:21
Speaker
And then we get the mid-credits scene, the race of the century, based right out of the comic books. Of ah The Flash versus Superman in a in a speed race. um And I don't think we ever find out who won. Nope.
00:26:33
Speaker
I think The Flash wins in the comic book. In a post-credits scene, Lex Luthor has escaped from prison. Jesse Eisberg returns. um He actually is in Arkham Asylum. He rec recruits Slade. He recruits Slade Wilson.
00:26:47
Speaker
aka Deathstroke, he's going played by Joe Mandeliello, to form their new a new League of Their Own. um That's him as Deathstroke there, taking off the mask. um And we're going to get into a little bit of that in a minute. but a Budget of this movie, $300 million. dollars And that was after reshoots and everything else.
00:27:06
Speaker
Made $661 million box office worldwide. $229 million of that was in North America. So that's kind of a low number. um Lower than Batman v Superman.
00:27:17
Speaker
um The break-even point of this movie was $750 million. um It was a box office failure for Warner Brothers, um estimated $60 million dollars loss for them, forcing them to rethink their whole entire superhero strategy going forward.
00:27:32
Speaker
Joss Whedon's behavior on set created its own controversy. ah Gail Godot and Ray Fisher came out talking about how it was harsh working environment with him. talking about how we out the whole entire, Ray Fisher wasn't protected by the the brass at Warner Brothers.
00:27:48
Speaker
Huge, huge thing happened. So, after that, the Snyderverse implodes. um Post-Justice League, Ben Affleck is hired to write a Batman solo movie. It's called The Batman.
00:28:00
Speaker
Kept the name, made a different movie later on, but WWE decides they're going to move forward without him. And without his script and the Batman movie that we know that came out with Pattinson was pretty much because of this.
00:28:14
Speaker
um Shazam! The movie came out in 2019. um They wanted Cavill to come back. Cavill, I can't remember what he was doing, or they didn't want to hire him. He wanted too much money.
00:28:27
Speaker
He wanted like he wanted like his regular pay, but for a cameo. So they had a guy dressed up as Superman. Same suit, but no head. You didn't see his head the whole entire film, but this is him going to lunch at the end with Billy Batson and his friend ah going to the cafeteria at the high school.
00:28:44
Speaker
But yeah, no cavil. 2019-2021. um After the failure of Justice League, Warner Brothers sought to distance the DCEU into continuity. um and They wanted to make more solo movies, um and Walter Hamada was hired.
00:28:59
Speaker
as the new head of DC Films, replacing Johns and Berg. um Under Hamada's leadership, the studio severed ties with several its leading talent from the Snyderverse, including Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck.
00:29:11
Speaker
Wonder Brothers dives into the streaming universe with HBO Max. Open up HBO Max. And after a long-fought internet campaign in following years of comparing the everything that happened with Snyder to the Richard Donner cut from Superman,
00:29:26
Speaker
ah massive amounts of pressure from Zack Snyder fans the hashtag release the Snyder Cut was born and in 2021 we get Zack Snyder's Justice League we got his imagination of what the movie would have been if he had finished a production by the way filming of this movie had been i think almost 80% done, if if I remember

Zack Snyder's Justice League Release

00:29:52
Speaker
correctly.
00:29:52
Speaker
Something like that. Everything Snyder's shot was used in his cut. Yes. The only, outside of, he went back and did his own and reshoots in his driveway for the most part. During COVID.
00:30:05
Speaker
But yeah. um But yeah, they they, I think they only used like a quarter or less than a quarter of the amount of shots that he used. That's when Joss Whedon came in and reshot everything in the story-wise.
00:30:17
Speaker
um But our read-in, Four hours and two minutes long. And broke down into six chapters. Yeah, it's it's a slog, especially when you're making notes. um Six chapters.
00:30:28
Speaker
ah Part one, don't count on the Batman. Part two, um the Age of Heroes. Part three, beloved mother, beloved son. Part four, change machine. Part five, all the king's horses.
00:30:40
Speaker
And part six, something darker. um Additional characters and that ended up showing up in this version. William Dafoe as Atlantean. Volko. um He was already in Aquaman before this, but this is this was where he was supposed to debut.
00:30:55
Speaker
Kiersey Clemens as Barry Allen's future girlfriend, Iris West. We always heard about this when Snyder was filming. um Was it in a trailer or something when we first saw this shot? that We've seen this shot before it actually played out.
00:31:08
Speaker
we knew it was We knew she was cast as Iris. We knew there was a scene on the street, but we didn't actually see it until this movie came out. Um, but yeah, there's a whole entire awesome scene we're going to get into in a few minutes of her, of her being saved by Barry Allen.
00:31:23
Speaker
Um, and the scene depicted in the Green Lantern, um, in a post-credits scene, it was supposed to be, uh, Kilowog and Tom O'Reilly, they were going to visit Batman at the end of the movie, um, in kind of a post-credits scene, um, and they were going to tease the Green Lantern Corps movie, which was supposed to happen. and Um,
00:31:43
Speaker
But we didn't get that. We did get Kill the Hog kind of in a flashback scene in being dead ah during the end of the Nightmares scene. But that's all we got.
00:31:54
Speaker
um Ryan Zhang was going to Ryan Choi setting up the character's future as the Atom. He was a big part of the Snyder Cut. He played kind of the assistant to Cyborg's father.
00:32:09
Speaker
And the biggest difference of this movie is we actually have Darkseid. Fully formed Darkseid was not part of the Justice League at all. Steppenwolf was the main villain.
00:32:20
Speaker
um I believe they mentioned Darkseid in that movie, but it wasn't it was it was it. There was no Darkseid at all. This time we actually see him. Played, voiced by Ray Porter. um And Darkseid has a servant named Asad, voiced by Peter Guinness.
00:32:34
Speaker
um And Harry Lennox, reprising his role from Man of Steel and Batman v Superman. um is the calvin swanwick he was the general um in a scene uh it's revealed that he is actually john john's um the martian manhunter um in a scene in the hallway that's the sod uh that's him in the hallway he was he went to talk ah talked to lois lane as um as Martha, and changes into mar Martian Manhunter in the hallway. And he also shows up at the end. We'll get into that in a minute. but um Wayne T. Carr was going to to going to appear as Jon Stewart, Green Lantern.
00:33:12
Speaker
I saw a tweet. Actually, this came up in the space I was in last night. We were just shooting the shit about Superman coming up. And one of the cultists tweeted out, We missed seeing Wayne T. Carr versus Darkseid for this.
00:33:24
Speaker
Wayne T. Carr... First off, it was illegal for Snyder to use this shot. That's why it never happened. Because he's not even a SAG actor. He's a stage actor.
00:33:35
Speaker
Who's literally just friends with Ray Fisher, and that's how he got a call from Zack Snyder. ah Looks awesome. He looks great. But then again, they're just stills. I'm sure it would look great in movie, because Zack... You cannot knock Zack's visuals. Even with Rebel Moon, which had a much smaller budget, the visuals still looked...
00:33:54
Speaker
85% really, really fucking good. Yeah. ah Yeah, we'll get into that whole scene at the end. um But the movie the whole entire beginning of the movie changed as well. Zack put an intro that kind of explained everything that happened in Batman v Superman with Superman dying.
00:34:09
Speaker
And the echoes to Superman's death, his cry when he's dying, throughout the world awaken all the three mother boxes. It actually shows all the mother boxes awakening. That's when he's being killed by doomsday.
00:34:20
Speaker
Um, slow-mo scene, of course, is Zack Snyder. The problem with this movie is a lot of slow-mo. Um, but sending notice to Steppenwolf and Darkseid off-world that the mother boxes have awoken.
00:34:31
Speaker
Um... And Steppenwolf returns to Earth with his army, goes to Theromusgera to try to find the Mother Box there that's awakened, and he has a big, huge fight with the Amazons.
00:34:43
Speaker
um And the Amazons take him out with arrows. they're trying to try he's He's cutting up Amazons like crazy with this big, huge, awesome axe that he has. um And he finally does steal the Mother Box.
00:34:55
Speaker
And then in this movie, like the other one, they get into the 10,000 years ago origin, but this time instead of Steppenwolf invading Earth, it's actually Darkseid. And he puts the Omega symbol, the equation, what do they call it? The ah anti-life equation, right? Oh, yeah, the anti-life, yep. He puts it into the crust of the Earth.
00:35:18
Speaker
Um, great scene, and it and it and it continues off later in the story, but that's him arriving on Earth with his army, and he's got these witches behind him. Um, that's him with his little axe weapon there.
00:35:30
Speaker
Um, and the three witches are the ones that kind of create and use and warp these mother boxes. Um, and mother boxes, like like they like they were in the other movie, are kind of, uh, what create life what's going to create and make the terraform the earth into apocalypse and so the whole his whole entire world can be recreated on earth um we see another green lantern a different one from the original one um and he has a big huge fight with dark side and dark side ends up chopping off his hand in this one and the ring falls off dark side tries to grab the green lantern ring
00:36:05
Speaker
um as the ring's flying away and he can't catch it. That was really cool scene. I wish you could have seen a Zack Snyder first version of Green Lantern, like a whole movie or something. It would have been dope.
00:36:17
Speaker
It was taken from us. The scene I mentioned before played out awesome in this. It's probably my favorite scene in the movie. of The flash Flash saving Iris from a car accident. Flash flash freezes everything.
00:36:29
Speaker
Yeah, it's also one of the scenes that if they need to put this in theaters, you can easily remove it because there's absolutely fucking nothing for the narrative of It's just a really cool thing for just really cool scene for us comic book fans.
00:36:40
Speaker
Yeah, visually stunning scene, too. That's that's what's that's what's great about Snyder. That's the one thing where I'm going to get to the point of. um This movie is beautiful. Stunning, stunning. There's shots in this movie that could be in a museum.
00:36:51
Speaker
That's how stunning his his visual eye is. But but the writing is just could be could be a better. um yeah And we get a whole flashback scene with Cyborg being the football player, um getting in a car accident and becoming what he is, missing limbs, missing everything, his father trying to take care of him, trying to figure out how to save him, finds this mother box, reopens, reawakens this mother box, and it forms itself to Cyborg, and creates all this the the robot parts that make up the rest of his body, and becomes a cyborg.
00:37:24
Speaker
This is him being the cyborg. This is him kind of in a dream sequence, reminiscing about his life as he's being created. He's kind of looking on as ah as kind of the AI, looking looking on. I thought that scene was cool.
00:37:37
Speaker
um In this scene, Mira has a huge fight with Steppenwolf. He steals the Mother Box from Atlantis. um They did change that a little bit. um In this movie, big change, Steppenwolf finds the long-lost anti-life equation on Earth that Darkseid did 10,000 years ago. He ends up finding it.
00:37:56
Speaker
And that gives him reason to call Darkseid. There's a lot more to Earth than we thought. ah Not only are the mother boxes here, but your anti-life equation's here too, so you need to come to Earth. And that's going to set up a huge, big finale in this movie that wasn't in the original.
00:38:11
Speaker
Um... He awakens the Omega symbol, calls Darkseid, as you can see here, and tells him, come to Earth. There's there's major implications here. And in this scene in this movie, a little bit different from the first one, Darkseid has a vision as they're trying to awaken Superman. and The Mother Box gives him a vision of what Darkseid's future will become if the Mother Boxes open up Superman and and create and create life with him, wake and wake him up um The Earth is going to become Apocalypse, pretty much. Darkseid's going to rule over it.
00:38:42
Speaker
He's going to kill the Justice League. He's going kill Wonder Woman. He's going to kill Aquaman. Very cool scene. um And he's going to kill Lois Lane as Superman's leaning ah over her body.
00:38:55
Speaker
Um, and he's going to influence Superman, put the hand down his shoulder and Superman's going, as we saw in the nightmare scene in the first, in Batman versus Superman, um, Superman is going to go crazy, go evil and take revenge off of Batman, take revenge off the justice league.
00:39:10
Speaker
Um, and that's, and that's him, uh, flying over the remains of what were the hall of justice and, dark sides armies in the background. Uh, very cool visual. He mentioned visual scenes are awesome in this movie.
00:39:21
Speaker
Um, scene plays out a little bit differently in the memorial, a little bit slower, a lot more army come in. There's a whole tank versus Superman scene, which is really cool. skipped the part where they changed how the Flash brought back Superman.
00:39:35
Speaker
not that Oh, yeah, that's right. yeah It did change a little bit. Yeah, they changed it where the Flash goes so fast we go and going to touch the mother box that he's actually too late. But because he's going so fast, he rewinds time by accident.
00:39:48
Speaker
And that's how he ends up bringing Superman back. Yeah, that's how you know. That's how i was going to get into the time thing is going to happen later on a big part in the movie. um But yeah, that's how he figures out the time force and how how we can manipulate time.
00:40:00
Speaker
um That's how he first realizes because he misses the motherboard. It's just by a millisecond. has to rewind time to get back up and and running. but um But yeah, awesome scenes. and the whole The whole memorial scene changed. Mark McClure, in this movie, instead of playing a guard, he played a police officer. didn't want to mention that.
00:40:17
Speaker
um And the whole entire scene with Cyborg's father changed in this movie. Cyborg's father sacrifices himself to save Cyborg so Steppenwolf doesn't get to this mother box. He's trying to destroy the mother box. He figures he can destroy it with this laser.
00:40:35
Speaker
Does not end up happening. Steppenwolf ends up killing himself, but Steppenwolf ends up taking this mother box too and unites all three in this movie in the unity. um And the the whole superman Superman gets resurrected, of course, um is different in this movie.
00:40:53
Speaker
First of all, he's got a black suit. He goes to the Kryptonian ship and and finds this black suit. It's kind of like ah if you would, I guess they have a whole bunch of suits. It's kind of like a minor suit.
00:41:03
Speaker
There's like a different suit. So there's black one. um He ends up grabbing that, putting it on um and kind of shot by shot comparison of man of steel to what was going on here. Kind of a remake of him getting his powers, finding his powers again. was kind of cool.
00:41:18
Speaker
Um, and goes in, I love the shot this shot. is probably one of my favorite shots of the movie where he goes up to the sun and kind of just soaks it all in. Um, we get the Justice League arriving in Russia, um, in Batman and the new Batmobile. Uh, we got them going, going toe to toe with, uh, Steppenwolf at the end.
00:41:37
Speaker
And right as, um, he's about to attack Cyborg, who's trying to, um separate the mother boxes superman comes in in an awesome awesome scene the way this plays out is so fucking awesome um he stops steppenwolf from attacking cyborg uses his freeze breath to freeze the weapon and breaks it into millions of pieces and they have a huge knockdown drag out fight visually so visually awesome just to see him attack like this with the black suit of course um and The world opens up, a portal opens up, and he and you see Darkseid looking at the Justice League through the portal.
00:42:13
Speaker
um As Ray Fisher is too late. Cyborg is too late and he cannot separate the mother boxes. So it goes off and that scene that he that was shown to him from the mother boxes starts playing out where the world is being destroyed.
00:42:29
Speaker
And the Flash isn't getting there fast enough and and he's watching from a distance that the explosion goes off and he freezes time. Freezes time. And he runs to he runs to the Justice League, and you see the world crumbling underneath his feet, but he's rewinding time, so the the world that's crumbling under his feet is coming back.
00:42:52
Speaker
The world is regrowing. um Very cool visual scene. um Lots of slow-mo, but i kind of after the first time I complained about it a lot, The way they played it in this version I thought looked really, really cool.
00:43:05
Speaker
I just wish they held the slow-mo to mostly Flash scenes. Yes. But they give everyone slow-mo. Yeah, they did, yeah. um And they defeat Steppenwolf. um Aquaman grabs him but with a trident.
00:43:18
Speaker
Superman punches him into the portal. And right as he's about to go through the portal, Wonder Woman cuts his head off. The head falls at Darkseid's feet and he crushes Steppenwolf's head right under his foot.
00:43:29
Speaker
um The Justice League are looking in as Darkseid's looking at them on the other side of the portal. And the put portal closes and Darkseid's like, get the armada ready. We need to go after We know where our anti-life equation is. We need to go find it.
00:43:42
Speaker
Setting up what would have been a sequel that we didn't get, unfortunately. um Same scene, different colors on top of the tower. This time Superman in the black suit. um And there's an epilogue in this movie.
00:43:55
Speaker
A father twice over. This is pretty much the end of the the Justice League movie um with a little bit of other scenes added in. I know this scene, I forgot to... I didn't mention it in in the Justice League, but i didn't want to mention here. Batman creates Wayne Manor um turns into the the Hall of Justice.
00:44:12
Speaker
The old, decrepit man Wayne Manor. And he's looking it over saying there's a table there with six chairs and one room is like with room to grow. Of course, Justice League has so many members, but...
00:44:23
Speaker
um And then the very end of this movie, um we see the nightmare future of where the next movie would have gone. um We open up with this scene of the nightmare scene, which is reminiscent what happened in Batman v Superman.
00:44:36
Speaker
um And we meet the whoever all the Justice League members and villains that pretty much survived the apocalypse. um We got Deathstroke. We got Flash with the helmet, which we saw in Batman v Superman.
00:44:50
Speaker
We got Nightmare Batman, which we saw in Batman v Superman. But we also got Jared Leto's Joker. This was filmed in Zack Snyder's backyard, his garage. Mm-hmm. um this whole entire scene, bringing in Jared Leto, who done who had done, i think the only movie he did was Suicide Squad, He didn't anything else.
00:45:08
Speaker
Yeah, that's it. That's it. Yep. And he was going to a huge part in other movies. But Zack Snyder brought him in for this, changed the character up a little bit, wasn't as crazy as he was in Suicide Squad, changed the makeup and everything. I thought it was really cool the way they did it. But he has an interaction with Batman that's pretty cool.
00:45:23
Speaker
And then Cyborg's like, he's coming. He's coming. And Superman finds them. And everybody's on the guard. Flash suits up, put the hel puts the helmet down.
00:45:34
Speaker
And Superman arrives behind Batman and starts to, right as he's about to use his heat vision on everybody, Ben Affleck wos up wakes up and in present time as Bruce Wayne.

The End of Snyderverse

00:45:48
Speaker
And this is the scene that we were talking about at the end of this movie, which is is is a great movie. An epic ending to this movie is him waking up from a dream sequence as somebody's flying in to his little villa that's on ah on a lake somewhere in America.
00:46:02
Speaker
Gotham, I guess. um And Jon Jones shows up, great ah the Martian Manhunter, telling him that Darkseid's going to be coming back. We need to regroup. We need to get to everybody together. We need to have a team against him to be prepared.
00:46:18
Speaker
And Ben Affleck already knows this because of all the dreams he's seen in the future and everything he knows about what's going on, so... um so yeah that's where the movie ends that's where kind of the snyder verse ends too um for the most part it does continue we'll get into that in a minute but the movie ends with a tagline for autumn that's the name of zack snyder's daughter great touch of this movie if you knew everything the history behind it is a great touch of this movie um wonder brothers gave zack 70 million dollars to finish production on this which is unheard of for the movie that already had a 300 million dollar budget
00:46:50
Speaker
um including segments of reshoots, finishing the score, finalizing VFX shots. um Between the Justice League and this, the complete production of this movie was around $370 million, dollars plus the marketing, so it's already one of the most expensive movies ever made.
00:47:06
Speaker
um After the success on HBO Max, there were early talks to finish Zack Snyder's story in Justice League and Justice League 2, but the studio would eventually abandon this in favor a completely different direction.
00:47:18
Speaker
um to this set To this day, Zack Snyder's Justice League is not considered canon. um is actually The Justice justice League is considered the theatrical audition is considered the only Justice League, unfortunately.
00:47:30
Speaker
um So let's go a little bit further. What happened? Announced in 2021, J.J. Abrams had a black Superman movie that was writing. It was going to be starring Michael B. Jordan.
00:47:41
Speaker
ah supposed to It's been in limbo since 2023, but um who is a character who was the black Superman's character? What was his name? ah Valzade.
00:47:53
Speaker
Valzade, yes. um But that has not come to fruition. don't know if it ever will. um Peacemaker in 2022, Justice League cameos, kind of. um They would not, Warner Brothers would not let them use um Cyborg or Batman. Cyborg because Ray Fisher was doing a lot of stuff behind the scenes where they did not want him any connection any connection to the universe anymore.
00:48:18
Speaker
But at the end of the scene, Peacemakers meeting up with the Justice League. Who was the only one that has a speaking part? Was it Aquaman in the Flash? Aquaman in the Flash, yeah. Yeah, that's it. The Ufuckfish line? Yeah, Ufuckfish, yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:48:30
Speaker
ah Great, great show. 2022, Warner Brothers Media completed its merger with Discovery. um And David Zazoff is led as the CEO, the new CEO.
00:48:41
Speaker
um He has new aspirations for the DCEU, and he wants them different from what Hamada's vision was. um And they ended end up canceling the Batgirl movie, 2022, already filmed, and they canned it, put it in a vault somewhere. And they also fired Hamada during this time. This is the end of 2022, right before Black Adam came out.
00:49:02
Speaker
Black Adam, 2022, The Rock, Lots to talk about here. The Rock Talk tries to take creative control of DCEU at Warner Brothers. Yes, you did. He reportedly wanted Black Adam to be the central character around the entire universe revolving around him, revolving around his character's actions dictating the direction of other storylines throughout the whole entire universe. Can I just say, this sounds like trash.
00:49:27
Speaker
It sounds horrible. sounds fucking terrible. It was it was all going to be set between the rivalry of spatman but Superman and Black Adam. It was going to be the storyline focus, and his seven bucks production was pretty much going to take over for Walter Hamada.
00:49:40
Speaker
Rock reportedly wanted to take control of the Justice League sequels as well, with Black Adam being the main antagonist. um It got to the point where he talked Warner Brothers into bringing back Henry Cavill as Superman. At the end of the movie...
00:49:54
Speaker
Black Adam, he talks to Amanda Waller and he asks her, um there's no one on this planet that can stop me. and Amanda Waller's like, I can call in a favor and call in people who aren't from this planet. and Black Adam says, send them all. Amanda Waller shuts down the phone saying, as you wish. And we get, for the very last time,
00:50:16
Speaker
Coming in with the the John Williams theme song, by the way. His choice. Everything in this scene was his choice. I wouldn't even be surprised if he chose his own dialogue. Because a lot of the certain members of the cult say, why would they do this? Whose idea was it? And they refuse to believe was Henry Cavill's, even though Henry Cavill legitimately... think was a GQ article where he talked about how was his choice to the John Williams theme, have the blue-earth suit, and whatnot.
00:50:42
Speaker
yeah So, yeah. But, yeah, Henry Cavill comes back, um For the very last time, it sets up a knock-down, drag-out fight with Black Adam, and that's exactly what The Rock wanted. See, that itself would have been cool. Like, just yeah one movie.
00:50:56
Speaker
Not an entire universe of Black Adam and Superman. The whole entire universe centered around that was awful. yeah um that Later that weekend, the movie i released and and on Friday, later on that weekend, Henry Cavill comes back on Instagram.
00:51:12
Speaker
posting a video of him returning as Superman, to the point where, on the bottom, dc official the DC official Instagram post says, Welcome back with a heart. So everybody's like, Yes! Cavill's back! Oh, right, we love Cavill. We want to see a Man of Steel, too. Fuck yeah, right, let's go.
00:51:29
Speaker
During this time, James Gunn and Peter Safran take over, and they're hired from November 1st on, which is just a week, I think, a week or two after Black Adam opened,
00:51:40
Speaker
They were hired to take over the DC Universe November 1st, so just a couple weeks after the official announcement the official announcement of Cavill returning.
00:51:51
Speaker
um Gunn and Saffron, after the abysmal box office returns to Black Adam, which did not do well, um ah critically and in and monetarily, um They rejected The Rock's vision, rightfully so, and the plans of Total Control, um subsequently subsequently planned ah canceling a planned Black Adam 2.
00:52:10
Speaker
um And any further DCEU films being in favor a fresh start in a brand new rebooted film universe. This whole situation hurt The Rock so much that he's actually trying to act now.
00:52:22
Speaker
And he's working with Scorsese. How crazy is that? Not to mention, he went back to fucking wrestling too. That's how bad it was. I mean, that was mostly because of the writer's strike because he couldn't do anything in Holland.
00:52:34
Speaker
But still, it's insane. Yeah. A month and a half later, Henry Cavill has to go online because he talks to to talks to James Gunn and Peter Safran. And they tell him pretty much, like yeah, you're not part of our new universe. You're kind of done. Sorry you had to announce that to the world. Warner Brothers executives told you it's okay, but you're not part of our vision. You're not going to be Superman. So he had ah yeah this whole Instagram post on there writing, I've had a meeting with James Gunn Peter Safran. Sad news, everyone.
00:53:03
Speaker
um After all, I'm not going returning as Superman. so And fans, and that was pretty much the nail in the coffin of the Snyderverse. That was it. I mean, once Cavill was gone and once they took over.
00:53:14
Speaker
But there was still one movie. I still think, before we get into the next movie, yeah for all the issues that the DCEU had, Snyder leaving, the biggest mistake they ever made was not making... They easily could have made a traditional Superman movie with Henry Cavill in 2019. Release in 2019.
00:53:32
Speaker
um I think that was the nail in the coffin. just the fact that At that point, Ben Affleck was pretty much done. they really have a Batman, but they could have at least attempted to do something with the Superman character.
00:53:43
Speaker
They were just... two They were bitches about it because they wanted to stick to their moral high ground of basically getting rid of everything Snyder except for Gal Gadot and The Flash because they were still filming that movie.
00:53:57
Speaker
um But I think if you had released a Henry Cavill Superman movie in 2019, things might have been different. It might have ended up around the same, but things I think would have at least been different. um yeah But we'll never know.
00:54:10
Speaker
Yeah, we'll never know, unfortunately. um Like it mentioned, The Flash. Still in production at this time. It was actually in post-production. um So they couldn't cancel it. They couldn't do anything about it. There was a whole bunch of stuff filmed for it.
00:54:22
Speaker
We're going into it. This came out in 2023. It came out about seven, eight months after um it was announced that James Gunn was going to be taken over. um They cast Sasha Kali cali as so as Kara Zor-El.
00:54:37
Speaker
Bringing in Supergirl into the Snyderverse, kind of. I thought she was great in that movie. Yeah, she was good. Yeah, she was very good. would have been really good next to Henry Cavill. Oh, for sure. If he ever returned. She would have been perfect.
00:54:49
Speaker
Yeah, I thought she was great. um But the end of this movie was set up in the Speed Force. It's a flash, of course. um And Barry Allen's seeing the whole entire time loop around him and seeing other characters from other universes in Superman lore and televisions.
00:55:05
Speaker
um The first one we see is George Reeves' Superman. We see him, by the way, CGI in this scene still to this day talked about because it's god-awful. It came out during the pandemic when we know there's a lot of CGI problems because there was just an overabundance of it there didn't have enough people doing it. It's like leftover from the pandemic because the pandemic was earlier, but all the CGI people were trying to play catch-up in this movie. The CGI was terrible.
00:55:29
Speaker
This is one of the movies that that kind of had fault for that. um We also see Christopher Reeve's Superman and Helen Slater's Supergirl return as cameos together. Never were in a movie together. This is kind of the first time, but of course, CGI, fake, not real, using archival footage kind of.
00:55:45
Speaker
um But the biggest part, the one thing we're always going remember from this is the first time and only time we ever saw the what would Superman lives look like with Nicolas Cage. We actually see Superman with Nicolas Cage coming in, finding a big, huge, giant spider, which always a big thing. Not a spider. What is it? The Potharian thorn beast or whatever the fuck they wanted to call it? Right, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's basically a spider. Yeah. But we do see him in full garb.
00:56:14
Speaker
um I'm not sure if Nicolas Cage, I can't remember. Did he have any part of this at all? I don't remember. Yeah, he filmed it, but he had no idea what they were doing with it. He just came in the afternoon and did like two or three things. Yeah, I had no idea. They CG had the suit on him. They did all that, yeah. Okay. um And there's also going to be a Henry Cavill cameo at the end of this movie that was scrapped.
00:56:33
Speaker
Um, film ended in a courthouse, uh, Sasha Kali, Supergirl, and Michael Keaton, um, were gonna be joined by Henry Cavill's, uh, Superman and Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman. Um, that scene was replaced with the whole George Clooney, Bruce Wayne, Batman scene that happened.
00:56:47
Speaker
Um, it was a decision by James Gunn because he didn't want anybody confused with what he was gonna be doing with Superman later on. Um, and that's where the Snyderverse ended. Um, the Flash is somewhere off in, in George Clooney's universe somewhere, we're not sure. Um,
00:57:03
Speaker
January 2023. Under new leadership by James Gunn and Peter Safran. The DCU is born.

Superman Legacy: A New Era

00:57:15
Speaker
And that leads us to next week. We have a whole bunch of stuff here that may have may or may not happen. But it's all led by Superman Legacy at the time. Eventually changed to Superman. Just Superman. That's coming out next week. and we're going be seeing that.
00:57:30
Speaker
We're going to be reviewing that and having a good time in the theater. going to have a good time talking about it next week, I hope. We'll get some other stuff. We'll get into at the end. We're going have a big, huge finale for super this year of Superman that we've been doing.
00:57:42
Speaker
um But we had to get through the Justice League. I gotta tell you that was the hard watch. Because I had some ambitious plans to watch both of those movies last week, and then I did it. I'm proud of myself.
00:57:54
Speaker
Pat on my back for doing it. I did that same exact thing last summer when I was doing the DCEU watch with my Discord. um we did We didn't do it in the same week, though. We did Justice League one week, and then Zack Snyder's the next week.
00:58:08
Speaker
But we did Zack Snyder's after work, so like I was up to like fucking doing it. That was rough. And I think I told you, like, I was watching Justice League. It was so bad. Justice League, it's so bad. The editing of that movie is just trash. Yep.
00:58:25
Speaker
just trash um I had to start Zack Snyder's Justice League immediately after. I watched like an hour of it just to get the taste out of my mouth. Yeah. Here's the thing about the Justice League, though. Like, people give like, it ends up that he was like a creep on set and he was a piece of trash to Ray Fisher. But like, he was hired to come in.
00:58:46
Speaker
shorten it and add jokes, which is what he did. They weren't good jokes. I mean, he gives Batman a fucking one liner and Batman's around for 90 years. He's had like exactly like one, one liner in that entire time.
00:58:56
Speaker
Um, but like he technically he did what he was supposed to do. Like he did what he was hired to do. Um, it just so happens that you can't take somebody like Zach and and take somebody like Joss Whedon, who are two completely different filmmakers. It's like yeah trying to do a sequel trilogy of Star Wars and hiring J.J. Abrams and then hiring Rian Johnson to follow up on Abrams did.
00:59:20
Speaker
They're just two completely different mindsets of filmmaking that, I mean, they just aren't going mesh. They just aren't at all. And that was the issue is that they saw dollar signs with the Avengers making a billion dollars. So they say, why don't we bring in the guy that did that?
00:59:35
Speaker
Well, at the same time, i mean, Marvel was kind of getting into being its own little machine at that time. So, I mean, I probably could have directed The Avengers to fucking 900 million yeah if I had to. Like, you know? So it's just one of those things.
00:59:48
Speaker
Yeah, yeah. Unfortunately, Snyder Cut, I wish we could have seen it continue. I wish we could have seen what Zack's vision was for the last movie, what what the ending of the nightmare scene would have been.
01:00:01
Speaker
But we didn't get it, unfortunately. We kind of got a glimpse of what was going to happen in the in cyborg scene, what was going happen next. But we didn't see it, unfortunately. but So next week we'll talk about Superman. We're going talk about Superman and Lois, Krypton, and we're to talk about Crisis on Infinite Earths.
01:00:20
Speaker
The whole Arrowverse crossover of the app. It's on the Plex, right? Yeah, it's on the Plex now. yes You can watch that. With that being said, let's get into the news.
01:00:32
Speaker
The Plex
01:00:39
Speaker
And it's not a new segment. The trailer around it.
01:00:43
Speaker
I got some good trailers this week. We got a trailer for Hail Mary. Project Hail Mary. Starring Ryan Gosling. um From the director of The Martian. um Film follows a teacher who wakes up. And soon remembers he was sent 12 light years away. From the earth. To save humanity. Because the sun begins to erode.
01:01:00
Speaker
And all the suns in the universe. Pretty much are eroding. And he's trying to figure out. and all the universes is are eroding, and he's trying to figure out what's going to happen. So they send him 12 light years away, and whole bunch of stuff happens. It's done by phil phil Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.
01:01:14
Speaker
um Looked great. Comes out on March 20th of next year. Film for IMAX, so we'll talk about that. This Hail Mary movie is... I want to read the book, because I heard it's one of the greatest books of all time. Written by the same guy that did The Martian.
01:01:29
Speaker
Oh, yeah. I really cannot wait for this movie. I think it looks fantastic. It's like my type of like science fiction. and ah i'm actually I'm a big fan of Ryan Gosling, even though I haven't seen a ton of his movies.
01:01:40
Speaker
What he's done lately between Hiwa's Ken, and like he to me, Carrie Barbie is Ken, and um that other movie about the stunt guy. Fall Guy. Great and foul guy. he's He's becoming one of my favorite actors, so definitely can't wait for this movie. Ice of Wakanda. A quick glimpse of that trailer.
01:01:59
Speaker
ah Coming out sometime in August, August 27th. Got a new trailer for Cat in the Hat. um Bill Hader doing the voice for Cat and the Hat this time. It was alright. ah Comes out February of next year.
01:02:10
Speaker
Got a great trailer for Running Man. This looked awesome. Here's based off of the book more of more than what they did with the original movie. More an adaptation of the book.
01:02:21
Speaker
Comes out in November of this year. And we got a leaked version, which probably gonna be coming out today, of The Odyssey, Christopher Nolan's next movie. This is exclusive to trailers, which I thought was awesome. I'm glad they i'm glad they did that. We always say that how great trailers are in the theater first and exclusive.
01:02:39
Speaker
But they did leak online. I saw the leak. I'm sure you did, too. I haven't watched it yet. I'm waiting. I'm hoping to see it before Superman or some other movie. yeah probably yeah It'll probably be Superman, yeah. yeah um But yeah, it comes out next year, so excited for that, The Odyssey.
01:02:53
Speaker
um Box office last week, F1 movie, won the box office weekend with $55.6 million. How to Train Your Dragon, number two, for with $19. Ilio, with another $10.
01:03:04
Speaker
um F1 is Brad Pitt's biggest global box office opening ever with $144 million. That's right, I heard that. um the big rumor of that is he's a nascart driver um and this and they're saying there's possibility there's a shared universe between this and days of thunder which is also in production talkro Yeah, Tom Cruise is also behind the scenes promoting this movie heavily.
01:03:31
Speaker
And, of course, this is directed by the guy that did Maverick, who is also, I believe, going to do Days of Thunder, but I'm not sure. i believe so, too. I think you're right. But, yeah. I did want to mention some deaths this week. First one, Jim Shooter.
01:03:46
Speaker
Um, he was the lead at DC or Marvel in the 80s during the big, huge Secret Wars thing. He is one of the first to greenlit this big, huge multi-comic book run of Secret Wars, also bringing in the toy universe of that as well.
01:04:06
Speaker
um He did a whole bunch of stuff for DC as well. Flash vs. Superman there. He's done a whole bunch of stuff. but um He died this week. Rest in peace to him. Rest in peace to Kenneth Coley. You don't know the name, but you know the actor if you love Star Wars.
01:04:19
Speaker
He played Admiral Piet in the The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. um He died this week at 87 years old of COVID. COVID is back, people.
01:04:32
Speaker
and Rest in peace to Michael Madsen. that was um Yeah, because Reservoir Dogs the scene that he's going to be known for. It's the scene that he did that whole entire thing improv'd.
01:04:44
Speaker
um I think I think Tarantino wanted him to do some sort of a dance, he's like, what? So he ended up doing his own version of a maniacal kind of dance as he's trying to interrogate somebody, which is awesome. Play 2 is stuck in the middle with you. I'm to have to watch that after Jaws tonight, because Jaws is my 4th of July movie, but yeah.
01:05:01
Speaker
Oh, thank you for reminding me. I got your Reservoir Dogs on four k I've never actually watched it on 4K, so i might do that. That'll look yeah great. yeah um Thank you for reminding me, everyone. sure you watch Hamilton.
01:05:13
Speaker
Make sure you watch Hamilton tonight, too. It's your Hamilton night, yep. yeah yeah I watch it once a year so I don't oversaturate myself. But yeah, Michael Madison died, 67 years old. no Nothing as of today, no no no cause of death. But I think he's had a history of...
01:05:30
Speaker
of drugs and stuff so uh yeah i saw somebody online post um that instead of watching one reservoir dogs in honor of him they're gonna do an eight ball of cocaine and drink a bottle of vodka oh god yeah love the internet um let's get into the news oh god not that uh p diddy Found guilty on only two accounts, but not guilty on the biggest one, the sex trafficking, in the RICO.
01:05:58
Speaker
The RICO was the big one. The RICO would have gotten him life in prison. Yeah, he would have been, yeah. yeah That one was ah not guilty as well. So he's got this he's got these two two charges for prostitution.
01:06:08
Speaker
um They're saying it's less than a year in jail. He's already served like 10 months. i think so I think what they're saying is it would be like 10 years, probation to 5, but due to whatever good behavior, he'd be out in like 12, 18 months or something like that. Yeah. ye yeah So didy yeah, P. Diddy, he's going to be out of prison. going to be out of jail soon. Summer 2026, watch out. P. Diddy's back, baby. Take that, take that, tape ta take that.
01:06:38
Speaker
Get Wade. um Netflix, teaming up with NASA to stream the live rocket launches, astronaut spacewalks, mission coverage, ah views of Earth. They're going to do it all on Netflix. They have a deal with NASA now. That's pretty cool. I love NASA. i love ah space and all that.
01:06:53
Speaker
um A cool cool movie poster for Naked Gun. I saw this. This is awesome. um no a ah No AI was used in the making of this poster. I fucking love this poster. He like eight figures. That's what's great about it.
01:07:08
Speaker
um Cannot wait for that. comes out in just a month, so cannot wait. i' Got a new poster for Toxic Avenger as well. It comes out, I believe, next month as well, in the end of next month. um get a new poster for alien earth comes out next month as well ah with all the characters are going be in there the human characters um i did talk about it earlier the bear season five was renewed by fx uh no word on if that's going to be the end or not but i'm i'm kind of hoping it is i hope so uh tire season three also coming out in 2026 was renewed
01:07:40
Speaker
um Coming back for Devil's Wear Prada 2. um Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci all returning. The only one that's not returning is Adrian Grenier, who was in Entourage.
01:07:53
Speaker
um He's not coming back. i don't think he's acting anymore. think he owns a farm somewhere and he's just off doing his farm stuff. As I would do after Entourage, because that show's a goddamn classic. um They're bringing in Kenneth Branagh. He's going to play the wife of um of Meryl Streep, but that's pretty much it for that.
01:08:09
Speaker
Um... They're going doing a new documentary on Olivia Newton-John coming to Netflix. I'm excited for that. We'll see. I love documentaries. um Vin Diesel this week confirmed that the final Fast and the Furious movie is going to be coming out in April of 2027, and they're going to be bringing back Brian O'Connor, who was played by, um what's his name? Paul Walker, who died.
01:08:32
Speaker
um So I guess they're bringing his brother and doing the CGI thing again. I guess. I don't know. We'll have to wait and see. um In that Last of Us news, I don't have anything here.
01:08:43
Speaker
ah Neil Druckmann will not return to The Last of Us Season 3. He's to be returning to Naughty Dog to do their next game. So he's not going to be writing in the third season. He's leaving right before production starts.
01:08:54
Speaker
um And i think I think that's reason why Season 1 and 2 were so great, because they brought in the original creator of those games in to write those stories, going to be a part of the Season 3 on,
01:09:05
Speaker
I'll have to see where that where that plays out. but I've got a new picture of Sharon Stone in the Nobody 2 sequel. She'll be playing the villain of that and in the and the amusement park going after Bob Odenkirt. I've got a new picture of the Predators.
01:09:22
Speaker
Predator Badlands coming out later this year. got a new picture of them. I wanted to mention this. Chuck E. Cheese is launching an adult-focused spinoff called Chuck's Arcade. There are going to be 10 locations, one of them being in, I think,
01:09:36
Speaker
i think ah New Tampa, I think. I'm not sure. Somewhere in Florida. but um It's going to be expanding the nostalgic gaming experience. It's going to be a lot like David Buster's, but with Chuck E. Cheese branding. um so yeah um South Park is supposed to come back next week. It got pushed back two weeks to July 23rd, and the creators are pissed at the merger.
01:10:00
Speaker
In response to that, they put out a press release. um after after they put out a press release, the South Park creators put out their own press release, Matt matt and trace matt and Trey, saying this merger is a shit show and it's fucking up South Park.
01:10:13
Speaker
um They're in the studio working on the episodes and they just hope the fans can see them sooner rather than later. um Yeah, I don't know what's going on there. know Skydance and Paramount are merging or something, I don't know. It's slowing down things as far as I know. but um We talked about the casting of Street Fighter last week and we said that there was rumors of Walter Goggins playing M. Bison. While that's not happening, David Dismouchin, who I love him too, going to be playing M. Bison.
01:10:42
Speaker
I like that casting. The one casting that was going to turn me around for this... don't like this casting. The one thing that was going to around was Alan Richland playing Guile, which is not happening.
01:10:53
Speaker
he must' ah He must have backed out. um Cody Rhodes coming in to play Guile. Nope. No way. He is... I've seen Arrow. I've seen his acting.
01:11:06
Speaker
Yeah, he's not that good. That kind of took it took this movie out of my wheelhouse completely, but we'll have to wait and see because the rest of the casting looks pretty good. Oh, my God. um I got some new popcorn buckets.

I Know What You Did Trilogy on Sale

01:11:19
Speaker
ah First one is for I Know What You Did Last Summer. By the way, if you have if you don't have them on iTunes... There's a trilogy of those movies. i know you did last summer. $9.99 this week on iTunes.
01:11:30
Speaker
There's three of them? I thought there was only two. There's a third one. One of those limited made-for-TV. I know what you did last summer. But the other two the other two are included. So you're getting the other two for $9.99 plus an extra one.
01:11:43
Speaker
I might get onto that. Yeah, they came out this week. I know what did last summer. Coming out with a color-changing cup and popcorn tackle box. Because everybody has to have their own popcorn bucket.

Jaws 50th Anniversary Celebrations

01:11:53
Speaker
um We're getting new Jurassic World. in The movie that came out this week. Jurassic World ah popcorn buckets. I was going to go see a last night. But ah I got out of work too late because it's the goddamn holiday.
01:12:04
Speaker
Yeah, yeah. The fucking holiday. And we got some... I thought these were really cool for Jaws. Is Jaws 50th going on next week, week after? um This week, of course, because it's 4th of July, but...
01:12:15
Speaker
um But, yeah, they're doing a 50th anniversary in theaters on August 29th. And I thought these tins looked really cool. It's kind of set through Amityville, ah vintage signs from Amityville. like the retro look.
01:12:29
Speaker
Yeah. yeah And there's a buoy. Shaped as it as as a cup. It's a cup. We're going to have to try to get there on August 29th. Is that a Friday? I never saw it theater. That'd be cool to see it a theater. i mean Probably, yeah.
01:12:41
Speaker
Because I'm young. Yeah, yeah, right we're yeah we we yeah. We're not that old. so um Let's get into some swag. Swag. Stuff we all get.
01:12:53
Speaker
Come on, son. You know what that's right.

Stephen King's 'It' Special Edition

01:12:56
Speaker
Pop figures. We got some WWE pop figures, but the most notable one that I definitely want to have is the CM Punk pipe bomb one. I believe they're already sold out on Amazon, so I'll have to wait until they were actually release to see if there's extras.
01:13:08
Speaker
um I like this one too, Lord of the Rings, The King from the End of the Return of the King. better um I like that movie Skull in the Dark. It looks awesome. um If you're a book collector, I know you love the movie the movie and the book It.
01:13:21
Speaker
um There's a special edition slipcase cover of Stephen King's It. It's illustrated Coming out sometime next month, pre-orders I believe start in, I believe this week or sometime, but right around $100. think there's only like 500 of them that are ever going to exist.
01:13:37
Speaker
um But yeah, it's going illustrated completely with a new and new illustration. It's going to have blood. It looks like the edge of the book is going to have blood stains on and stuff. looks really cool.
01:13:49
Speaker
It, of course, has the slipcover with the balloon on it. It looks awesome. um The time train. For Back to the Future, still, of course, it's missing from my notes. Where the fuck is it?
01:14:00
Speaker
Well, first we'll talk about this. um Punisher figure, iron to Iron Studios, I believe, coming out. There's the Back to the Future train I was talking about.
01:14:12
Speaker
um It's a figure, i I can't remember, a Bandai, who's making this, but somebody's making it. comes with figures, minifigures of Doc Brown and the family and Marty looking on. um But yeah, I wish Lionel trains. I've always said I wish Lionel would make this, but I have not made it.
01:14:28
Speaker
But yeah, I think got more pictures here. Here we go. um And the big toy this week, everybody's talking about, pre-orders are going crazy, is Superman and Crypto.
01:14:40
Speaker
It's in my in my cart. I'm waiting to see the movie. Yeah, Superman Crypto looks awesome. um Yeah, everybody's pre-ordering this because it's one of the best ones they've made in a while.
01:14:53
Speaker
um Got a brand new poster for for Fantastic Four First Steps. we got Silver Surfer with the Fantastic Car. um And a book of scenes coming out, book slash magazine. And there's going to be a whole retelling in the origin story ah done by Alex Ross.
01:15:10
Speaker
um they also go have three complete issues from the, I believe, from the Hickman run are going be in there and some other ones, and behind the scenes look of the movie.

AEW and Warner Brothers Collaboration

01:15:19
Speaker
ah Came out today on Amazon and other, but and bookstands everywhere, and some covers of those, two different covers.
01:15:25
Speaker
um And James Gunn announced the making of the Batman movie, which of course I don't, a Superman movie, and of course I don't have that here. I have this, though. For some reason, my notes are not synced up, I don't know why, but um Alex Ross during Comic-Con is to have this exclusive cover for Superman number one.
01:15:44
Speaker
um It's going to be exclusive to the Comic-Con. I believe only 500. You can pre-order him online. He's going have a limited amount online as well. But he's recreated the cover for Superman number one. It looked really, really cool. i wanted to mention that.
01:15:55
Speaker
This is the other thing I wanted to mention. James Gunn announced on on on his socials that there's going to be a Superman the art in the making in um art and making of the movie book. um I love these kind of books. comes out in November, same day as the Fantastic Four First Steps book. and It's already on pre-order on Amazon. I do love these type of books and probably will end up getting this.
01:16:17
Speaker
Definitely will. AEW had a huge team up with Warner Brothers. Of course, they're on Max. They had a huge team up with Superman this week. Why does Kenny Omega look weird with a cape? That's my question.
01:16:32
Speaker
Yeah, and MJF, of course, our boy MJF there with ah with ah with Lex Luthor himself. Yep. um We see the very first look at one of the TV commercials for the Hall of Justice.
01:16:46
Speaker
It's going to in Superman. so um And Peacemaker is going to playing a big part of that as well. A Superman statue is hanging over the Shard in London, big, huge, tall building in London, tallest building in the U.K.,
01:17:01
Speaker
i' Got a glimpse of that here. Superman just floating there and they were taking pictures of it and looked like he's flying. Also underneath that, they had a newsstand with newspapers from Superman kind of going the viral market route with this.
01:17:14
Speaker
um Playing the trailer, I believe, on the screen up top. I wonder if there'll be a a newspaper cover that you can get for us at some point. I don't know. i They did that with USA Today. I'm not sure yeah who they would do that with. new York Times, guess. I don't know.
01:17:32
Speaker
um James Gunn talked about the glasses um and how Superman's going to change his identity in the Superman movie.

James Gunn's Superman Identity Twist

01:17:40
Speaker
And they're going be using hypnoglasses, which is in canon way back in the 60s. Yeah, way, way back.
01:17:46
Speaker
