Taylor Armstrong's Journey to Success

00:00:03
Speaker
Welcome to the Solarpreneur Podcast where we teach you to take your solar business to the next level.
00:00:08
Speaker
My name is Taylor Armstrong.
00:00:10
Speaker
I went from $50 in my bank account and struggling for groceries to closing 150 deals in a year and cracking the code on why sales reps fell.
00:00:19
Speaker
I teach you to avoid the mistakes I made and bring in the top solar dogs of the industry to let you in on the secrets of generating more leads, falling up like a pro and closing more deals.

Becoming a Solarpreneur: What Does it Take?

00:00:31
Speaker
What is a Solarpreneur you might ask?
00:00:33
Speaker
A Solarpreneur is a new breed of Solar Pro that is willing to do whatever it takes to achieve mastery and you are about to become one.
00:00:42
Speaker
What's going on solarpreneurs?
00:00:43
Speaker
We are back with another episode.
00:00:45
Speaker
Today we're going to be jamming on why you should be all in on solar.
00:00:50
Speaker
If you're not already, you're going to be convinced to go all in, burn your bridges and dive headfirst in the solar.
00:00:56
Speaker
So let's get into it.
00:00:57
Speaker
My name is Taylor Armstrong.
00:00:59
Speaker
We're here to help you close more deals, generate more leads and referrals and have a much better time in the solar industry.

Community Engagement and Gratitude

00:01:06
Speaker
Hope you're doing awesome.
00:01:07
Speaker
Hope you are taking advantage of the long summer days.
00:01:11
Speaker
And it was my birthday yesterday.
00:01:13
Speaker
Thanks to everyone who wished me a happy birthday.
00:01:17
Speaker
I guess at the time of this podcast, it will have been two days ago.
00:01:20
Speaker
Don't worry, if you're listening to this clear in the future, you're still going to get some applicable content here.
00:01:25
Speaker
But just wanted to thank everyone who wished me a happy birthday.
00:01:29
Speaker
And for those who didn't, would you please take a minute for my birthday present?
00:01:36
Speaker
Would you please take a minute?
00:01:37
Speaker
Go rate the show.
00:01:39
Speaker
Go send it to someone.
00:01:41
Speaker
Share it.
00:01:42
Speaker
Post on your Instagram.
00:01:43
Speaker
Tag me at Taylor J. Armstrong at Soulpreneur Podcast.
00:01:47
Speaker
It would be a great birthday gift for me.
00:01:50
Speaker
So I would appreciate that if you want to support the show.
00:01:53
Speaker
And thanks to our listeners who have done that already.
00:01:56
Speaker
That's really how we grow this.
00:01:58
Speaker
And as you guys know, my money is in the solar.
00:02:01
Speaker
It's not in the podcast.
00:02:03
Speaker
Okay.
00:02:04
Speaker
So the reason I continue to do this is because I get people sharing it because I get people leaving comments.
00:02:10
Speaker
So they're greatly appreciated.
00:02:12
Speaker
And on a side note, if you didn't know, there is a lot of restaurants that give you some great birthday deals.
00:02:19
Speaker
So that was last week for me as I was going around to a bunch of different places getting all these birthday deals.
00:02:25
Speaker
I'm a sucker for good deals.
00:02:26
Speaker
For those who know me know this.
00:02:28
Speaker
Um, went to Jamba Juice, got me a free smoothie, uh, Chipotle.
00:02:32
Speaker
I think they give free birthday stuff.
00:02:34
Speaker
Haven't gotten their deal yet.
00:02:36
Speaker
Um, I think, uh, what Chick-fil-A gives you like a free little treat on your birthday.
00:02:41
Speaker
So, uh, Hey, if you're wondering, um, there's lots of deals for your birthday.
00:02:46
Speaker
So go get them.
00:02:47
Speaker
All about sharing it.
00:02:48
Speaker
So let's jump into the content.
00:02:50
Speaker
Enough about birthdays.

Marketing Strategies Inspired by Experts

00:02:51
Speaker
Enough about me.
00:02:51
Speaker
This podcast is about you.
00:02:53
Speaker
And this podcast is about increasing your income, your impact, and just having a better time, like we always say, in the industry.
00:03:01
Speaker
So today, this podcast, the inspiration comes from actually a show I'm a big fan of.
00:03:08
Speaker
And we've been talking a lot about marketing the past podcast or two.
00:03:14
Speaker
It's kind of the focus for the next week or so on the podcast.
00:03:18
Speaker
And so the inspiration for this show actually comes from one of my favorite mentors, one of my favorite podcasts.
00:03:24
Speaker
It's called the Marketing Secrets Podcast.
00:03:26
Speaker
And it's by Russell Brunson.com.
00:03:28
Speaker
He is the ClickFunnels guy, the marketing genius.
00:03:33
Speaker
I have a ton of respect for that dude.
00:03:35
Speaker
And he did a great podcast just I think a week or two ago about just how you should be all in on whatever you do.
00:03:44
Speaker
And this is a trait I've seen common in successful entrepreneurs, successful salespeople.

The Importance of Going All-In

00:03:49
Speaker
Pretty much anyone that has success in life, they go all in.
00:03:53
Speaker
They don't go halfway.
00:03:56
Speaker
They go all the way in.
00:03:57
Speaker
They dive in.
00:03:59
Speaker
And so Russell Branson on this podcast, he talks about...
00:04:04
Speaker
how he had just gotten back from a trip to Lake Powell.
00:04:08
Speaker
And so I related with that.
00:04:09
Speaker
I was at Lake Powell here a month or two ago, which for those who don't know, that's a lake down in Southern Utah or Northern Arizona.
00:04:18
Speaker
It's in parts of both states.
00:04:20
Speaker
Go there every year.
00:04:22
Speaker
But it's like a hundred degrees outside when you go, at least in the dead of summer.
00:04:27
Speaker
But what's interesting is the lake still feels pretty cool as you're jumping in enough to like shock you a little bit, pretty cold.
00:04:34
Speaker
Russell talks about how in this lake, he used to just dip his toes in, kind of going one by one, take my while, but he was always way colder just doing it that way than jumping in.
00:04:47
Speaker
You can probably relate.
00:04:49
Speaker
I learned this lesson too, but if you just jump in the water...
00:04:53
Speaker
it's over in a snap, right?
00:04:54
Speaker
You get it done, you get adjusted quicker, just a better experience than going in so slow.
00:05:00
Speaker
And Lake Powell is probably even a bad example because it's so warm outside.
00:05:04
Speaker
But think of any lake you've been to, any cold thing you've done.
00:05:09
Speaker
If you just dip your toe in, you have to deal with the shock of it over and over as you dip your toe
00:05:15
Speaker
in, you get up to your waist, you get your chest in and it's just like, oh, oh, oh, one shock at a time.
00:05:23
Speaker
But if you just dive in head first, the shocks for two seconds on the whole body, but then it's done.
00:05:29
Speaker
It's the same thing.
00:05:32
Speaker
Jason Newby, owner of the company I'm working with right now, he has a cold bath and
00:05:38
Speaker
Um, a cold tub.
00:05:39
Speaker
It's like a tub you buy specifically to do like the cold plunges, right?
00:05:45
Speaker
Which highly recommend if you haven't done one, but he takes his temperature.
00:05:49
Speaker
It's like, I don't know, 35 to 40 degrees in this little cold tub.
00:05:52
Speaker
And he gets in it every night.
00:05:54
Speaker
Um, we were at his place on 4th of July.
00:05:57
Speaker
And I knew the only way I was doing it is if I got all the way in right away.
00:06:01
Speaker
If I put my toe in, I was, I was bellowing on that thing.
00:06:05
Speaker
I'm not going to stick my toe in 35 degrees water and just hang out there.
00:06:09
Speaker
So I just plunged right in and did the five minutes.
00:06:12
Speaker
Made it way easier than going in one by one.
00:06:15
Speaker
So what's the principle from this?
00:06:17
Speaker
The principle is this, that some of you are doing the same thing in your solar cells.
00:06:22
Speaker
Some of you are dipping one toe in.
00:06:25
Speaker
Some of you are taking the shock one at a time.
00:06:28
Speaker
Maybe you're only knocking doors for an hour a day.
00:06:31
Speaker
Maybe you are not making the contacts you need.
00:06:34
Speaker
Maybe you're not making as many calls as you need to.
00:06:36
Speaker
Maybe you're just not committed.
00:06:39
Speaker
So that is the principle of this.
00:06:41
Speaker
It's the same thing as you're getting in the cold water, the cold lake, dive into solar, burn your bridges, go all into it.
00:06:48
Speaker
Because if you don't, trust me, you're going to be sitting at the sideline four years from now when there's no tax credits, when solar maybe isn't as good for people as it is now.
00:06:59
Speaker
Or who knows, maybe everyone has solar.
00:07:02
Speaker
There's no more solar cells.
00:07:03
Speaker
Whatever happens, we don't really know, right?
00:07:05
Speaker
But I don't think solar is going to be this good forever.
00:07:09
Speaker
I'm here and probably got one or two more good years of solar where we're making great commissions, where it's this awesome.
00:07:15
Speaker
And I guess, you know, depends on the market too.
00:07:17
Speaker
I'm talking more California, but maybe California.
00:07:20
Speaker
start sucking for solar here in a year or two and I've got to move to Texas.
00:07:24
Speaker
Point is, I do not want my solopreneurs getting to this point in time and looking back and having to say, I didn't push as hard as I could have.
00:07:33
Speaker
I didn't go as hard as I could.
00:07:34
Speaker
I didn't knock that door that I needed to knock.
00:07:37
Speaker
I didn't go talk to that person after I closed the deal.
00:07:40
Speaker
I just got in my car and left.
00:07:41
Speaker
The neighbor was right outside.
00:07:43
Speaker
I didn't go talk to him.
00:07:44
Speaker
That could have been a closed deal.
00:07:46
Speaker
And so are you the person that wants to live with the pain of regret?
00:07:50
Speaker
Or do you want to live with the pain of working harder now?
00:07:54
Speaker
Make that decision and don't look back.
00:07:56
Speaker
I was doing a podcast with Danny Pesci actually today coming out here in the next month or so.
00:08:02
Speaker
But he just went on and on about this.

Belief in Product and Market Urgency

00:08:06
Speaker
As he is running Noxstar, this is really their goal to make sure people are pushing as hard as they can right now.
00:08:12
Speaker
And this is what they do with Noxstar.
00:08:13
Speaker
They just continually get people to have the belief that solar is not going to be this good forever.
00:08:18
Speaker
And if you can get yourself to believe that, to have the belief in product on why people should go solar right now, and then reflect that belief to your teams, how much better are you going to produce?
00:08:31
Speaker
How much better are you going to lead?
00:08:32
Speaker
How much better are you going to get customers to make decisions today instead of waiting?
00:08:38
Speaker
So have that extreme belief.
00:08:40
Speaker
Jump all into solar.
00:08:42
Speaker
Don't wait.
00:08:43
Speaker
Take advantage of the things we've got going on right now.
00:08:46
Speaker
The tax credits, the net metering.
00:08:48
Speaker
Who knows?
00:08:49
Speaker
It all could run out.
00:08:50
Speaker
And then take advantage of the relationships too.
00:08:53
Speaker
We're all a family in this.
00:08:55
Speaker
That's what I love about the podcast is bringing people together.
00:08:59
Speaker
But who knows, maybe once Solar, if and when Solar isn't as good anymore, maybe we all go start another business together.
00:09:07
Speaker
Maybe we all go sell, I don't know, cut co-knives after this.
00:09:10
Speaker
Or we start selling whatever random stuff.
00:09:14
Speaker
So take advantage of that.
00:09:16
Speaker
And that's the purpose of the show today.
00:09:18
Speaker
Make sure you are not living with that regret.
00:09:20
Speaker
Go all in.
00:09:22
Speaker
So send this to someone that needs a fire lit under them.
00:09:26
Speaker
Make sure you're pushing as hard as you can today.
00:09:29
Speaker
Don't look back.
00:09:30
Speaker
Burn the bridges behind you.
00:09:32
Speaker
And hope that helps.
00:09:34
Speaker
Make sure you get in the water all at once.
00:09:36
Speaker
And then go do some cold plunges.
00:09:39
Speaker
Go do some cold showers.
00:09:41
Speaker
Because that will help with all this too.
00:09:44
Speaker
Hope that helps.
00:09:45
Speaker
We'll see you on the next episode.
00:09:46
Speaker
Remember, marketing, we're going to be talking more about marketing here for the next couple podcasts.
00:09:53
Speaker
And appreciate all you guys.
00:09:54
Speaker
Thanks for the birthday wishes.
00:09:56
Speaker
We'll see you on the next episode.

00:09:59
Speaker
What's up, solarpreneurs?
00:10:00
Speaker
Hope you enjoyed the episode.
00:10:02
Speaker
Before you run out and start selling more solar yourself, wanted to let you know about an exciting new cheat sheet we created specifically for you in mind.
00:10:12
Speaker
One of the top questions I get asked on Instagram, on Facebook, by our listeners is, Taylor, where should I start?
00:10:19
Speaker
What episodes should I listen to in the podcast?
00:10:22
Speaker
You got too many podcasts, man, because now we have over 200 episodes.
00:10:27

00:10:40

00:10:49
Speaker
So go download it right now.
00:10:51
Speaker
It's going to be at top10.solarpreneurs.com.

00:11:02
Speaker
We will have that in the show notes.
00:11:04
Speaker
Go download it right now.
00:11:06
Speaker
And especially if you have not listened to them, go listen to them and you can re-listen to them.
00:11:11
Speaker
That's going to show you how.
00:11:12
Speaker
So go download it and we'll see you on the other side.
