Cokeley Brothers: and we go Welcome back to the barn session, everybody. Got a full slate of wrestling to talk about today. Lots of news on all different levels.
Cokeley Brothers: All-star classic lineup. Who's number one lineup that's going down this weekend. U23s is happening. Big recruitment news. Real American Freestyle. Lots of stuff is happening. It's very busy for what we would normally expect out of October.
Cokeley Brothers: Probably not going get to all it today.
Ryne: October can get busy.
Cokeley Brothers: Really?
Ryne: Yeah.
Cokeley Brothers: It can. i don't know. just it was like It felt of like a very slow and quiet time. but i mean, obviously, because...
Ryne: September. Yeah, that's that's September.
Cokeley Brothers: Right? Right?
Ryne: September is your, you know, wake me up when September ends.
Cokeley Brothers: and But then then it all we just got punched with All-Star Classic. Who's number one suddenly is happening. It feels like we didn't really know a whole lot about it, and then all a sudden it's this weekend.
Cokeley Brothers: Bo Bassett Mel Miller dropped their commitments kind of out of nowhere. um But yeah, what what do you want to start with? Where do you want to go?
Reese: Bassett.
Ryne: Um, you want to start there? You want to start with the good stuff or let's talk about, uh, I kind of want to, yeah, we can do whatever, I guess.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah.
Cokeley Brothers: Let's crush the news. Bo Bassett and Melvin Miller are going to Virginia Tech. That is what, number two and four, pound for pound, in high school right now?
Ryne: Mm-hmm.
Cokeley Brothers: I think per
Reese: Which one's which?
Cokeley Brothers: ah
Ryne: Bassett's two, Melvin's four.
Cokeley Brothers: pretty sure. I think Dreshawn's three and Jack's forest is one.
Ryne: yes
Reese: Mm-hmm.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah.
Ryne: according According to Willie.
Cokeley Brothers: According to Willie, who is, I mean, in my mind, the leading source for high school stuff, he knows them kids. Knows them better than I do.
Ryne: but Now, if you if you ask Flo, then it's two and three. They have Melvin above Dreshawn, which is insane.
Cokeley Brothers: Dreshawn. It's also fair.
Ryne: No, insane.
Cokeley Brothers: Why?
Reese: Dude, i'm not going to lie.
Ryne: and Insane.
Reese: I think of, I think Melvin, I might think Melvin's better than Bassett.
Cokeley Brothers: Maybe a better prospect.
Ryne: Oh, he definitely has, yes, a higher ceiling for sure.
Reese: Yeah.
Ryne: But when you look at pedigrees right now, Bassett definitely is the number two guy. Sorry.
Cokeley Brothers: Okay, Wolverine.
Ryne: I'm sorry.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah.
Ryne: um page you
Cokeley Brothers: I mean, like accomplishments and all that. I mean, I w w but if you consider it that way, I mean, I feel like Drayshon and Melvin have kind of run the same.
Cokeley Brothers: I mean, wait, no, no, Melvin Miller has a world title.
Ryne: Yeah, but I think Dreshawn probably would have a world title had he not been hurt. A. And B, he's got some pretty good wins, dude, domestically.
Cokeley Brothers: Right.
Cokeley Brothers: He does. He does.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah. I don't know. I feel like it's a, it's a debatable topic. Um, but yeah.
Ryne: why aren't we getting Why aren't we getting Melvin Miller, Jaden James at who's number one?
Cokeley Brothers: Uh, I guess Jane James.
Ryne: Don't get me wrong. I am glad that Max DeBolt is wrestling, since especially since it's in Iowa this year. But I really wanted to see Melvin and Jaden.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah.
Cokeley Brothers: Me too. That would have been like, that would have been the match.
Reese: I'm a little underwhelmed with the card, but that might just be my lack of knowledge.
Cokeley Brothers: Well, that and Rainey. look
Cokeley Brothers: There's some solid matchups in there. ah the The big one now is Bassett-Rainey.
Reese: No.
Cokeley Brothers: It pretty much always was, but it's kind of...
Ryne: Yeah, but I mean, I feel like there's going to be a size discrepancy there. Is Jordan that big? Is he going to be big enough to wrestle with Bo?
Cokeley Brothers: Maybe. Maybe.
Ryne: I almost feel like it's like Bo's a pay to match one. That big of a discrepancy, but I don't know. Maybe not.
Cokeley Brothers: We'll see. I don't know. I mean, Jaden's got some length. Jordan.
Ryne: Jordan and Jaden, they both have length.
Cokeley Brothers: Jordan. Yeah, but Jaden just wrestled 55 kilos, right?
Ryne: Jordan Rainey has pinned both Jax Forrest and Bo Bassett.
Cokeley Brothers: So, there's that. But, back to the the initial news.
Ryne: In the same news.
Cokeley Brothers: Bo Bassett and Melvin Miller are are committed to wrestle for Virginia Tech.
Ryne: In the same news.
Cokeley Brothers: They're going to be in the ACC... You kind of assume that in a couple of years, we'll be hearing similar news about Keegan Bassett. kind of seems like it's one big happy family.
Cokeley Brothers: But ah what do you think about this?
Reese: It's great. I love it.
Ryne: Yeah, I mean, it's good for parity, right?
Cokeley Brothers: I think... Yeah, you saw a lot of people saying this is good for wrestling on Twitter when the news got dropped, and I think it is. ah I think that...
Ryne: But I mean, and and and I do think it's good for Virginia Tech, but I don't know if...
Ryne: I don't know. I don't know if they're going to help Virginia Tech to yeah beat Penn State or Oklahoma State or anything like that.
Reese: At the very least, you know, it'll get them, they'll make them a trophy contending team. Am I coming in okay?
Ryne: Oh, for sure. Yeah. Yeah, you are.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah. Yeah.
Reese: Okay.
Cokeley Brothers: Um, I, and I agree with that. I think this, this can give them some real momentum in the recruitment space of things. I think that, especially if you get, i mean, I don't know what Bishop McCourt is going to look like moving forward, but if you can kind of like, like if you get Keegan Bassett, obviously, and like Eli Herring and some of the other names that really know, um,
Cokeley Brothers: kind of have that set up and tack on some additional recruitment along the way ah you you can definitely become a ah pretty substantial team i probably with sam doing that but maybe not i don't know we'll see maybe maybe sam transfers because i
Ryne: Eli will be a Nittany Lion.
Ryne: Yeah, maybe not. Maybe not.
Ryne: ah Here's the thing. Here's the other thing, too. I do think it will probably help draw in some recruits. I don't know if it's going to help them as much as you think, though.
Cokeley Brothers: It really, it to me, it really depends. It depends on like, well, the rumor is that there will be some subsequent news that Bill Bassett is involved with the program in some capacity at the father.
Cokeley Brothers: If that happens, that kind of sours everything to me. I don't know if that's the case for everybody else, but if that does happen, then
Ryne: Yeah, it's net like nepotism, right? A little bit, kind of, in a way.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah. It's reverse, it's reverse nepotism in a way.
Ryne: Reverse nepotism.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah. Yeah. And, and so, uh, and it just like, it just feels, feels weird. Uh, cause it doesn't feel like you, like you've made a choice based on merit.
Cokeley Brothers: You did, you did a deal. Uh, I don't know if that's going to happen. That could be total conjecture.
Cokeley Brothers: I kind of, we, there were plenty of sources that were talking about the fact that Bill Bassett was interested on being, being involved in the in the college space, some in some capacity.
Reese: Maybe he'll be like Dayton's dad.
Cokeley Brothers: ah
Cokeley Brothers: yeah, and in that, that doesn't feel like that big of a deal, right?
Reese: Nope.
Cokeley Brothers: um
Ryne: Well, no, seeing as how, you know, yeah, Oklahoma State did it with Dayton. Iowa State did it with the cars.
Cokeley Brothers: Missouri did it with Ironman, right?
Ryne: I guess. I don't know.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah.
Ryne: How much was...
Cokeley Brothers: But, I mean,
Ryne: How much was Mr. Ironman involved?
Cokeley Brothers: And I mean, it was kind of probably based on the fact that ah this is another thing to think about though, right?
Ryne: And then Jaden left, so...
Cokeley Brothers: Bill Bassett's not just some guy. he is he is the high school coach for the second most successful or second best high school program right now.
Reese: Right.
Cokeley Brothers: So like, it's not as if he's just like a dad in a corner all of a sudden.
Reese: You could call him up.
Cokeley Brothers: He, he to some degree knows what he's doing, but if you get, if you work your way into a coaching position at the, at the division one level through, ah your son, your son's recruitment, you know, it looks a certain way, but I don't, mean, we don't even know if that's going to happen. I am trying to look at it positively and I expect this to help Virginia tech in some capacity. Um, there have already been like well-established good relations or good associations between Virginia techs,
Cokeley Brothers: marketing, um like how strong they are in the in the marketing space and how that works really well for Bo Bassett. um People have criticized like, oh, it's not the best conference, the ACC. It's still a tough conference.
Cokeley Brothers: um Probably the third toughest, right?
Ryne: Yeah.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah. I'm a big 10, big 12 ACC and it's dense.
Ryne: Yes. Yes.
Cokeley Brothers: um Really, your only like weak, weak link is is Duke. So... ah it's still a tough conference. No, it's like, i and Ryan and I were talking about this before we started recording.
Cokeley Brothers: You're not going to have that same effect of like Bo Bassett wearing the Iowa Hawkeye singlet walking out into Carver Hawkeye arena. Like you're not going to have that same effect. But, you you know, what can be done from a culture perspective at Virginia Tech?
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah, I think it's exciting. I'm sure this will start to um encourage them to
Ryne: um I'm so glad you said culture. Continue with what you said.
Cokeley Brothers: um I'm sure this will, this will incentivize them to continue developing their RTC even more. um And if, I mean, if Genentech makes the right moves um and and puts their money in, in, in the right spots, this pays off for them in a, in a big way, I think.
Ryne: I think it's hilarious. People are like, oh, why are they picking Virginia Tech? And you see all these Virginia Tech people, Caleb Henson, i all these people are like, because of the culture, because of the culture. It's like, okay.
Ryne: I mean, everyone claims they have a great culture. You know what I mean?
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah. Um, the, the people you want to hear it from are outside of the team.
Ryne: It's...
Cokeley Brothers: Right. Um, so like, yeah, Caleb Henson, Caleb Henson, who's a, uh, national champ, two-time finalist for Virginia tech.
Cokeley Brothers: Of course, he's going to try and promote the culture.
Ryne: well And I have and i have no like no doubt that their culture is great. you know
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah.
Ryne: Same with NC State. Same with a just about any Division I program. Probably has really good culture. I mean, name a program that probably does has a toxic culture. I can't think of one off the top of my head.
Cokeley Brothers: I mean, I'm not accuse any of them.
Reese: old ones, maybe old regimes,
Ryne: What do you mean, old...
Cokeley Brothers: Old programs.
Reese: uh, like, you know, past, no, no, no, no.
Cokeley Brothers: Like dropped programs.
Reese: no Program was with prior previous coaches, maybe coaching staffs.
Cokeley Brothers: or like Buffalo made a, made a hiring change. And so their culture is probably improved.
Reese: Yeah.
Ryne: Oh, okay. Yeah, sure.
Cokeley Brothers: Gotcha.
Ryne: But i'm I'm saying that doesn't necessarily mean their culture is toxic. That's my point. You know what i'm you know what I mean?
Reese: I mean, depends on what your what your definition of toxic is.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah. Depends. Yeah.
Reese: Ill?
Cokeley Brothers: I, I think, um, i mean, I had a very limited experience, uh,
Ryne: Ah, fuck. Turning this game off. God damn it Tied up. Three to three. Motherfucker.
Cokeley Brothers: He's talking about the Cubs for the people at home.
Reese: Tied up? Jeez.
Cokeley Brothers: um Like my when I first got to Indiana, it was 2019 and the change the change in leadership was was still ongoing, right? Because you you hire a head coach, but that does not immediately change in most circumstances. does that That doesn't immediately change how your athletes behave and the overall, the overall culture of a program, right? It takes in some cases, seasons to make that development, especially when you have ah an incredibly disruptive force like COVID.
Cokeley Brothers: But, um, ah so I did get to like, at least peek into what a, not a, not something I would describe as a good culture, what that looks like.
Cokeley Brothers: Um, um, And it's bad for development. It's bad for, for overall team mood. Uh, and just like practices don't go well, competitions don't go well.
Cokeley Brothers: Athlete to coach interactions are bad. Uh, people who are missing lifts, missing meals, missing time with their athletic trainers, getting bad grades, things, you know, things topple down when that kind of stuff happens.
Cokeley Brothers: But I think, I don't know. I'm optimistic.
Ryne: Sorry.
Cokeley Brothers: Um, with the choice that they made, it wasn't a, like a, like a top, a blue chip program. Virginia tech is good. Um, but it wasn't like a staple, the, uh, a household name. So I'm excited to see what that looks like moving forward.
Ryne: Yeah, I mean, it's definitely like, it's interesting. It definitely raises the eyebrow.
Cokeley Brothers: Right. Cause I mean, i don't know about you. i was, i was pretty, was pretty convinced that it was going to be in Nebraska. Uh, cause just felt like, felt like all roads were leading Nebraska for them, but guess Virginia tech made a, yeah, made an offer.
Ryne: Well, yeah. yeah
Cokeley Brothers: They can't. And like, that's the other argument you can have for, for like against like the, for the culture claim is that they got like paid out.
Reese: It's closer.
Cokeley Brothers: we're We're in the time where like whatever offer they get has to go through the, not the clearing house, but something similar.
Reese: It doesn't matter anymore.
Cokeley Brothers: Right.
Ryne: Well, does that depend on, does that, and does that depend on if they're revenue sharing or not?
Reese: is that efficient?
Cokeley Brothers: I'm not smart enough. I'm not ah knowledgeable enough on the topic.
Ryne: I don't know. Yeah, me neither. um That's why, that's why I'm asking. That's why I'm asking.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah. Yeah. Uh, I don't know. Maybe.
Ryne: You know, you know what I know?
Cokeley Brothers: What?
Ryne: I know bo Bass is not getting $5 million. dollars
Cokeley Brothers: Nah, that's not gonna, don't think, dude, if Virginia Tech found a way, that would be crazy. And for them to, to put it on that would be insane.
Ryne: Would be
Cokeley Brothers: Uh, Yeah, because you also have to offer Melvin something. So... Okay, yeah.
Ryne: I just, I mean, ah really hope, I don't know, man.
Cokeley Brothers: That's the...
Ryne: I just think about it all the time. I'm like, dude, you gave up $5 million. That's so much money. That's so much money.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah.
Reese: Allegedly. Allegedly.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah, I mean...
Ryne: What do you mean allegedly? Allegedly.
Reese: Allegedly.
Cokeley Brothers: it is what It is the number that everybody threw around there, but did we ever hear from like, did we hear from Bo Bassett that it was $5 million? dollars
Ryne: No, it was $5 million, dollars guys.
Reese: Hey, it wasn't about the money.
Cokeley Brothers: Did you see the money, Ryan?
Ryne: He was about to, it was $5 million dollars over four years.
Cokeley Brothers: It's not about the money.
Ryne: And he was about to get his first.
Reese: wasn't about the money. It was about the plane tickets.
Cokeley Brothers: Sending a message.
Ryne: was about influence.
Cokeley Brothers: I just want my phone call.
Cokeley Brothers: Uh, also in recruiting news, Landon Seiden, number one of the best guys and in the country. One of the top recruits in 2020 for the 2027 graduating class is committed to Penn state.
Cokeley Brothers: So they get another blue chipper.
Reese: oh I was just about to be like, oh yeah, he's good.
Ryne: That's exactly what I said. for
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah. Yeah.
Reese: I watched him wrestle one of the Bachmans and I was like, and he was impressive. But hearing that news is just, he's a small dude.
Reese: Like where they don't need, I mean, whatever. He'll probably be at 25.
Ryne: That's what I said. That's exactly what I said.
Reese: yeah
Ryne: He's small.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah, Ryan's like, how's it going to work? Luke Lilladol's going to bump up, and then and then Nate Desmond's going to be there, and Nate Desmond's pretty good. i don't know. I have no idea what it's going to look like. Here's the deal. And this is, Reese, you you've flat out said it Kale Sanderson over over recruits or recruits over his guys always.
Cokeley Brothers: So it doesn't make sense to me for people for me to hear from people that Penn State wasn't interested in Bo Bassett. That doesn't make sense to me. He is the biggest recruit, not necessarily the number one best guy you can recruit, but the biggest recruit in the last 10 years or whatever.
Ryne: Yeah, we all know it had nothing to do with Bo. It had everything to do with something else.
Cokeley Brothers: Right. And so then you can kind of like, you can kind of put some pieces together and connect some dots. Like the fact that Penn state wasn't an option.
Cokeley Brothers: suggests that coaching staff, right.
Ryne: Someone else wants to be relevant to...
Cokeley Brothers: The coaching staff is airtight. So, you know, the, the red, the red lines are, are coming together and we're figuring out who Pepe Sylvia is.
Cokeley Brothers: um
Ryne: That was a good one.
Cokeley Brothers: Thanks. ah Okay. That's that. Where do you want to go to next? want to all-star? you want to do number one? Real American freestyle, all-star classic.
Ryne: Let's do All-Star.
Cokeley Brothers: Okay. Let me, let me pull that up also.
Reese: I made my picks. Should we just do our picks now?
Cokeley Brothers: Sure.
Ryne: i don't even I don't even want to do RAF card number two, to be honest with you.
Cokeley Brothers: Okay.
Reese: It feels like our civic duty to talk about it.
Cokeley Brothers: It's it,
Cokeley Brothers: it it actually isn't final.
Reese: though I don't really want to talk about it either.
Cokeley Brothers: It isn't final to, to kind of give you guys a little bit of breath.
Ryne: The RAF card? I heard it was.
Cokeley Brothers: A match is falling out.
Reese: thought I thought it was.
Cokeley Brothers: And then it's... Willie was talking about it on with Bash today. That a match, I think, is getting dropped. ah But it's being replaced. And there's word of Nico Megalutis.
Ryne: Is it Henschel and Muggsy? Is that match getting dropped?
Cokeley Brothers: I have no idea. I don't know which match.
Ryne: I hope it's that match.
Cokeley Brothers: The fact that Nico is being thrown around as a name makes me think that Tomasello...
Ryne: or RBY.
Cokeley Brothers: Or RBY. Yeah, just that match is getting adjusted. um Okay. All-Star Classic.
Cokeley Brothers: um Yep. 125, Eddie Ventresca versus Sheldon Seymour. Didn't we already see this? Isn't this just a ah ah rematch of last year's fifth place match?
Reese: Yeah, that happens.
Ryne: Yeah.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Yeah.
Ryne: where what do ive I would have liked to have seen um Little doll Vincent Obviously we're not getting that Because of little dolls at U23s But that's what I would have liked to have seen Or Iowa guys Or Iowa guys
Reese: Yeah, we got no Penn State guys.
Cokeley Brothers: Right. So, so yeah, let's put that out there, right? No Penn state guys, no Iowa guys, no, no Nebraska guys, so none of the top three teams.
Reese: Or I guess.
Cokeley Brothers: um
Reese: um
Cokeley Brothers: And then only two from the top four with Iowa state.
Reese: They're still pretty good matchups.
Cokeley Brothers: ah You still have some good matchups, but ah Penn state, give them a little bit of grace.
Reese: Is that
Cokeley Brothers: A bunch of their guys are going to you 23s like the week before or whatever it is. So you're not Luke Will at all.
Cokeley Brothers: Um, Mitchell Mezenbrink, Levi Haynes, Josh Barr, Rocco Welsh. I think that's a mirror solo. Maybe no, not mirror solo.
Reese: is that seven
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah. I mean, they have seven guys on there, but yeah, like blazing Duke wouldn't be at the all-star classic anyway.
Ryne: There's seven.
Cokeley Brothers: Um, but yeah, so
Ryne: They should be. They should they should consider them.
Cokeley Brothers: and yeah, it's not, I mean, they, they do have, At 184, they have Zack Ryder wrestling.
Ryne: Give me on No. give me Give me Blaze versus Oh No.
Cokeley Brothers: Dude.
Cokeley Brothers: For an all-star classic classic matchup to be a wrestle-off for Penn State.
Reese: I don't
Ryne: Yes. Yeah, why not? Why not?
Cokeley Brothers: Dude, they were talking about how last year there was a golden opportunity to have Penn State like Dapper Dan style, which is Penn State versus the the best from the rest of the country.
Cokeley Brothers: Because i they they've had 10 All-Americans. Yeah. they were It was at Penn State last year. um That would have been the way to do it. ah But yeah, no Penn State, no Iowa, no Nebraska.
Cokeley Brothers: um Eddie Ventresco, Sheldon Seymour.
Reese: you
Cokeley Brothers: i don't know. Probably Ventresco.
Ryne: Give me Eddie.
Reese: um I'll be right back.
Cokeley Brothers: and Okay. We're losing Reese.
Reese: Nope.
Ryne: He said no. Where's he going?
Cokeley Brothers: I don't know. He's right there.
Ryne: Blowing his nose, maybe.
Cokeley Brothers: It could be.
Ryne: What are you doing, Reese?
Cokeley Brothers: ah
Ryne: To the bathroom.
Cokeley Brothers: Okay, goodbye. 133, Lucas Bird, Dylan Schauber. These two wrestled each other last year. Big surprise. Two guys from the Big Ten wrestled each other last year.
Ryne: Yeah, I was to say.
Cokeley Brothers: ah I'm trying to remember.
Ryne: Again, give me Blaze versus Ohno.
Cokeley Brothers: I'm trying to remember. I feel like it wasn't it was that it was an interesting match. Now, I think it was interesting because it was at Rutgers. However, this year, the All-Star Classic is at Rutgers.
Cokeley Brothers: Also, Ryan, you hear that? Do you hear that noise?
Ryne: Are you talking about my washing machine?
Cokeley Brothers: No. My keyboard.
Ryne: No.
Cokeley Brothers: You don't hear it, do you?
Ryne: Yeah, I do.
Cokeley Brothers: No.
Ryne: No, I don't.
Cokeley Brothers: Dylan Schauber. Where are you? Yeah, it was 6-5 last year. So this this could be a good another good match. um Entertaining at least. Even though Bird National Champ Schauber, I believe was around a 12. If I recall correctly, maybe around 16. Yeah,
Cokeley Brothers: yeah good match. 141. is probably the match, the best match. It's going to be Jesse Mendez versus Anthony Enchimendia. which tells you Echemendia 141.
Ryne: Yeah. I don't, yeah.
Cokeley Brothers: one forty one Yeah, I just, I don't think everybody understood that.
Ryne: Well, yes, that was always right. And frost is going up to 49 or, or Panera frost or Panera at 49.
Cokeley Brothers: you You know what? this is This will be a good time to bring this up. Have you seen Zone on Twitter is trying cradle zone on twitter is ah trying to Not promote, but he is mentioning the idea that Gavin Sachs is like still around and is in talks with somebody within the NCAA to get another season.
Ryne: He's young. He's young.
Cokeley Brothers: i know. I just keep letting the kid know like this would break all um prior precedent for what eligibility is.
Ryne: it would. It would open up a can of worms.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah. And and he he's not.
Reese: What are we talking about?
Cokeley Brothers: He'll get it.
Ryne: But you know what if he's got a good enough If he's got a good enough lawyer, it could happen.
Cokeley Brothers: He'll figure out.
Cokeley Brothers: Now there's no way. I hope not.
Ryne: No, it could. It could, especially since the NCAA is already considering doing that.
Cokeley Brothers: I know. but I don't want them to. Reese, Jesse Mendez, Anthony Echemendia.
Ryne: I do. I do want them to. You want Carter Starachi to be the only guy to ever win five forever and ever? No. Go ahead and give everyone else five years of eligibility.
Cokeley Brothers: Well.
Cokeley Brothers: When you put it that way.
Cokeley Brothers: That's a good point, Reese.
Reese: I'm going to carefully grab my water here. Not bump anything.
Cokeley Brothers: job.
Cokeley Brothers: Mendez Echemendia.
Ryne: Who do you got, Reese?
Reese: we doing picks?
Cokeley Brothers: Eh.
Reese: No.
Ryne: I guess we... Not really. Well, yes.
Reese: right. We don't have to picks. Save them.
Cokeley Brothers: I don't want to do them official yet. I want to be like ready to write these down whenever we do them officially.
Reese: Okay.
Cokeley Brothers: And there's probably going to be some guys drop out between now and then. So like, we'll wait.
Reese: That's true.
Ryne: Who would you... Who would you pick, though, right now, Reese?
Cokeley Brothers: Hmm.
Reese: Theoretically, i would pick I would want to pick Echemendia. But no, I would pick Mendez.
Ryne: Theoretically, why?
Cokeley Brothers: Mix it up.
Reese: because it Yeah, mix it up. yeah Exactly what he said.
Ryne: Okay. Okay.
Cokeley Brothers: Mix it up. It's like Bo Bassin going to Virginia Tech. It shakes things up a little bit.
Reese: Yeah. And regular season Mendez is different.
Cokeley Brothers: Ryan.
Reese: We all know this.
Cokeley Brothers: Ryan, put the knife away.
Ryne: It's not a knife.
Cokeley Brothers: Put the multi-tool away.
Ryne: It's a Allen wrench with multiple sizes.
Cokeley Brothers: Allen wrench key. Um... Okay, 149, Lachlan McNeil, Casey Swiderski, the return of Casey Swiderski, wrestling for Oklahoma State.
Ryne: This is actually, ah this is also a very good match, in my opinion.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah, it's interesting for sure.
Reese: Hopefully.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah.
Ryne: Well, Lachlan's been training with Logan Stieber, so...
Cokeley Brothers: I want to see Casey. but
Reese: What do you say?
Ryne: And Jay Jaggers.
Reese: I mean, I think Lachlan is the is the favorite like.
Cokeley Brothers: Ryan. What school do you think Lachlan's at?
Ryne: Isn't he at Ohio State now?
Cokeley Brothers: Michigan.
Reese: Oh.
Ryne: Oh. I thought he went to Ohio State for some reason.
Cokeley Brothers: ah
Ryne: Oh, Styles.
Cokeley Brothers: yeah
Ryne: Styles did.
Cokeley Brothers: Gross.
Ryne: Lachlan's been training with my boy Alex Derringer.
Cokeley Brothers: That's what you just did.
Cokeley Brothers: Good pivot.
Cokeley Brothers: ah Yeah, I mean, they both...
Reese: I think Lachlan is the the favorite, aren't we? Don't we agree?
Ryne: But give me Casey Swiderski.
Reese: and Yeah.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah. Yeah. Hawkman's the favorite.
Reese: I'm worried about Casey. You know, he's, you know, he hasn't really wrestled for a while and he hasn't been like on in a really long time.
Ryne: What do mean? He just wrestled against China.
Cokeley Brothers: in China.
Reese: He did wrestle China.
Cokeley Brothers: Whatever.
Ryne: China.
Cokeley Brothers: 157 Cardenas versus Ty Waters. Daniel Cardenas of Stanford.
Reese: Good match.
Ryne: Also a good match.
Reese: Hopefully Healthy Thai waters.
Cokeley Brothers: Healthy Ty and
Cokeley Brothers: daniel carddaus he's just He's just pretty fun to watch.
Reese: Yeah, he is fun.
Cokeley Brothers: ah Yeah, that'll be a fun match. ah People now, a quick break.
Reese: Give me, give me a, I'll take the over.
Cokeley Brothers: People were complaining about, go ahead.
Reese: The over. I will take it.
Cokeley Brothers: Okay.
Ryne: Oh, on points? Nice.
Reese: You wouldn't take the over?
Cokeley Brothers: People are complaining about like, man, the all-star classic. where's Where's the number ones versus the number twos? And, you know, it's still a lot of really fun matchups against high-level guys.
Cokeley Brothers: So.
Ryne: Yeah, but we're just not getting those Kendrick Maple versus Logan Steber type matchups anymore.
Cokeley Brothers: Do you, was that at the start of the year?
Reese: Did we get that?
Ryne: What do you mean?
Cokeley Brothers: Because the All-Star Classic wasn't always at the start of the year.
Reese: Yeah, it is.
Ryne: he said what it was Yes, it was. What?
Cokeley Brothers: I thought it was in the middle of the season at one point.
Ryne: No, never.
Cokeley Brothers: No?
Reese: You don't remember watching it at like preseason nationals?
Cokeley Brothers: am I insane? Preseason Nationals. Yeah. I guess that was like 2011, wasn't it?
Reese: Yeah.
Ryne: No. What? No.
Cokeley Brothers: What?
Cokeley Brothers: What?
Ryne: Logan Stieber versus Kendrick Maple?
Reese: It's just. talking about the year.
Cokeley Brothers: No, no, no, no, no. no no no no no
Ryne: Oh.
Cokeley Brothers: I'm thinking of ah DT versus KD.
Reese: That was 2012.
Ryne: That was 2012.
Cokeley Brothers: 2012. I was close. I was close. So cut me some slack. Mr. Mr. Sandman, Mr. Timekeeper. All right.
Ryne: Well, I thought you were talking about Stieber, Kendrick Maple. That was like, that was, it was a great match.
Cokeley Brothers: I don't, i don't remember seeing that.
Reese: When was that?
Cokeley Brothers: That was kind of, that was, I remember it.
Reese: um don't even remember that. Okay.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah. Again, i was only, only it would have been two years off if I was guessing 2011.
Ryne: Because then Kendrick, because then Kendrick, because then Kendrick went up to 149 that season, 2014. twenty fourteen
Cokeley Brothers: Was that after he won a title?
Ryne: Kendrick was, yeah, he won it in 2013 at 41 and bumped up to 49 and Stieber bumped up to 41.
Reese: Yeah.
Ryne: and steamer bumped up to forty one
Reese: And he just had a good time.
Cokeley Brothers: yeah
Reese: You know, he was, he was just there for a good time.
Cokeley Brothers: yeah he said sooner as i got you a title i'll take it okay uh yeah because there's two number ones and no number twos but like whatever penn state's busy i guess iowa is i don't know not interested in neither is nebraska sorry uh 165 hunter garban max pergnola Two wild cards.
Reese: no
Ryne: Only the good die young.
Reese: but So where's Pinto at again? That's
Ryne: Rutgers.
Cokeley Brothers: Pinto is, yeah.
Reese: right.
Ryne: And also wrestling at U23s.
Cokeley Brothers: Is he?
Ryne: for For Puerto Rico, isn't he?
Reese: Really? Oh.
Ryne: I heard that. Is he not?
Reese: I believe it.
Cokeley Brothers: That'd be tough as hell for him to go wrestle at U23s and then go wrestle at the All-Star Classic and be like, look at that, Nittany Lions.
Ryne: Oh, he is wrestling at the All-Star? He is wrestling at the All-Star Classic?
Reese: Yeah.
Cokeley Brothers: Yes. Yeah.
Ryne: Oh, I didn't know that.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah. He was one of the first two guys announced because Rutgers was like, we've got our guys representing representing the Scarlet Knights at home for the All-Star Classic.
Cokeley Brothers: And it was Dylan Shauver and Lenny Pinto. And i was like, oh, okay.
Ryne: I follow Scott Goodale on Twitter, but I don't follow Rutgers Wrestling.
Cokeley Brothers: Boom!
Cokeley Brothers: I'm sure he retweeted it. I'm almost certain he did.
Ryne: maybe he might he He might have. I just didn't see it.
Cokeley Brothers: um Okay. Uh, 165, Hunter Garvin, Max Brignola. We'll get to see like, what is Max Brignola really made of?
Reese: One of.
Cokeley Brothers: Cause he had a solid red shirt season last year, but i don't know if you guys saw him at the U S open.
Reese: You
Cokeley Brothers: Uh, I saw one match.
Reese: had to get a US Open, right?
Cokeley Brothers: He wrestled at the open and he wrestled Mitchell Mezenbrink. He got tooled up. Uh, but I mean, Mitchell,
Reese: You look good. You look good. Getting tooled up. It was like Pat glory.
Cokeley Brothers: Hey, hey, tough result, but hey, you look great out there.
Reese: Yeah.
Cokeley Brothers: I
Reese: It was like a good tech, you know? It's like where you're like, wow.
Cokeley Brothers: i feel like i feel like I gave him a good look on those shots, you know?
Reese: Yeah.
Cokeley Brothers: ah Yeah, and like i mean I guess maybe we won't know if we really get a good look because it's Hunter Garvin who is the wild card of 165 and we'll see.
Reese: I think Hunter Garvin is a great litmus test for all wrestlers.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah, can you... what do How do you describe Hunter Garvin?
Ryne: Mark only.
Reese: He
Reese: I think ah i think ah like he tests your wrestling IQ. I'm
Cokeley Brothers: Okay. Sure.
Reese: not saying his IQ is super high.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah.
Ryne: Mark Man. Mr. March.
Reese: he he he I feel like he he looked good all season last year.
Cokeley Brothers: He looked good all season for at least the first two periods. He would jump up to to big leads against like Bearclaw and Hall and then he would fade.
Reese: Yeah.
Reese: Could not beat Hall.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah, couldn't do it.
Ryne: Well, to be fair, there wasn't very many people last year that could beat Hall.
Cokeley Brothers: Nope.
Reese: What place did he take?
Cokeley Brothers: Small group.
Reese: Fourth?
Cokeley Brothers: Fourth? No, third?
Ryne: Yeah, fourth. Fourth.
Cokeley Brothers: You sure? I thought Minto took fourth. Or did Minto take fifth?
Ryne: One. Oh, you're right.
Cokeley Brothers: Okay, so Minto fourth, Hall third.
Ryne: No, you're right. Hall, fourth. Yep, yep, yep, yep.
Cokeley Brothers: Not bad. That's pretty good.
Reese: Not bad.
Cokeley Brothers: Okay, 174.
Ryne: That's what I'm saying. Not a lot of people could be beat beat the man.
Cokeley Brothers: Simon Ruiz versus Lenny Pinto.
Reese: you're alo You're all over this one, aren't you?
Cokeley Brothers: That's pretty good one. Well, they've they wrestled each other twice last year. six four for Ruiz at the CKLV and then like 2-1 for Ruiz at NCAAs in the blood round.
Cokeley Brothers: so But Pinto will be representing Rutgers. going to go out there probably guns blazing and all that. ah Yeah, we'll see what this looks like. I don't know. Simon Ruiz has looked pretty good this this offseason.
Cokeley Brothers: This be a good match.
Cokeley Brothers: 184, Jackson Smith, Zack Ryder.
Cokeley Brothers: Maybe.
Ryne: A lot of intrigue.
Reese: Jackson Smith, I just, I just, how did he finish last year?
Ryne: Just because...
Cokeley Brothers: Where is
Ryne: Seventh?
Cokeley Brothers: Jackson Smith?
Reese: He took seventh.
Cokeley Brothers: Sixth.
Reese: Okay. I didn't even remember if he placed.
Cokeley Brothers: I think sixth.
Ryne: No, he did.
Cokeley Brothers: think it was it was Starachi, Keckisen, McAnally, Plott, Foca, Smith, Allred, Washington.
Ryne: I knew he plays...
Ryne: McAnally.
Reese: Dang.
Ryne: Ah, yes.
Cokeley Brothers: I still got it.
Ryne: Good job.
Cokeley Brothers: I still got it. I paid very close attention to that bracket, all right?
Ryne: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Cokeley Brothers: ah Yeah, I mean where is Zack Ryder?
Reese: why?
Cokeley Brothers: Where is he in the landscape of 184? If he beats Jackson Smith... then you're probably going to say, okay, now he now he really does belong in the conversation of AJ Ferrari, Rocco Welsh, Max McInerney.
Cokeley Brothers: Can he wrestle with these guys? Jackson Smith is the new Dustin Plott of 184.
Reese: I think Ryder, you know, i'm just gonna go ahead say, I think Ryder is the favorite in my mind.
Ryne: Well, yeah. He's the favor in my mind, too, but also... Oh, yeah. He's the favor in my mind. He's been trained with Zahid Valencia. He's the favor in my mind.
Cokeley Brothers: He'd been training with Zahid. Yeah. Yeah.
Ryne: Untouched at world, Zahid Valencia.
Reese: Untouched.
Cokeley Brothers: I'm not sold yet.
Reese: Can't touch me.
Cokeley Brothers: I'm not sold yet.
Reese: He also beat, I don't think he, has he ever lost to Gabe Arnold? At least recently.
Ryne: No.
Cokeley Brothers: Who? Ryder?
Reese: Ryder.
Cokeley Brothers: Ryder?
Ryne: Ryder beat him two matches to zero and also beat him at the open.
Cokeley Brothers: Dude, you know what? Sidebar. Gabe Arnold. You guys hear what Piles said about him?
Ryne: I don't, yeah, and I don't care to talk about this.
Cokeley Brothers: Okay.
Reese: What did he say?
Cokeley Brothers: Dumb idea, right?
Ryne: I mean, I do see Pyle's point, but also, yeah, i I mean, Christian is just so...
Reese: ah one ninety seven
Ryne: He's such an elitist without being an elitist. You know what I mean?
Reese: So we're talking about the fact that he wants him to go up to 197. Is that what we're talking about?
Ryne: Yes, because he thinks he's a better And, yeah...
Cokeley Brothers: He thinks...
Ryne: ah
Reese: And Dean?
Cokeley Brothers: Massima.
Ryne: and yeah And you know what?
Cokeley Brothers: and
Ryne: He might not be wrong, but also like the the fact that he's trying to be like, ah well, just because he won D3 titles doesn't mean jack. It's like, come on, dude.
Ryne: give the Give the guy his flowers.
Cokeley Brothers: I think it's insane to say Gabe Arnold, guy that didn't look very big at 184, guy who looked maybe a little small at 184, should go up to 197 and he won't have a problem.
Ryne: Yeah. And we're talking about... Dean's... He's a U23 team. It's not like... Yeah.
Cokeley Brothers: And he's in the Iowa room with with Stephen Buchanan and AJ Ferrari and and eventually Ben Keeter.
Ryne: it's not like yeah
Cokeley Brothers: you Yeah, things are going to develop for him pretty quickly.
Cokeley Brothers: Christian Piles doesn't understand weight classes, evidently, because he made this argument that weight didn't matter for Kyle Dick against Zahid Valencia. And now he thinks that Gabe Arnold would would be effective 197.
Cokeley Brothers: None of it's making sense. So...
Ryne: Well, I mean, to be fair, Christian Piles just doesn't understand because he's just never really, you know what I mean?
Ryne: Like, and
Cokeley Brothers: never, you know... and know
Ryne: at any level, at any level, he doesn't get it because he hasn't lived it
Cokeley Brothers: Sure. I mean, i feel like you i feel like you could still. feel like you could still, even without having lived it, like you could still understand to some capacity.
Ryne: No, my question is, what do the other dudes think? The other guys on on the flow radio, what do they think?
Cokeley Brothers: Dude, sometimes sometimes they they're just a bunch of yes men and they're just like, yeah, you know, yeah, yeah.
Ryne: Yeah, that's what I was afraid of.
Reese: I think they just I think they they just don't feel as strongly as piles does about a lot of stuff.
Cokeley Brothers: Dude.
Cokeley Brothers: That's probably what it is. that's that That to me is like why, dude, because they were also debating the whole Japan situation and like, yeah, Japan's just, it's not a long-term thing, blah, blah, blah. And you know what? Maybe they're right.
Cokeley Brothers: But like the way they went about it was just, it's very frustrating.
Reese: Yeah.
Cokeley Brothers: It was very frustrating for them. It's just whatever. It's fine. um Okay. Sidebar over. 197. Joey Novak, Steven Little.
Ryne: I actually love this matchup.
Cokeley Brothers: This is a good matchup. It's... It's 197. It's 197.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah.
Reese: Could be, yeah, it could be like a ultimate tiebreaker whatever, whatever it was last year, and which was actually really exciting.
Cokeley Brothers: yeah Steven Little, Zach Bronicle.
Reese: Yeah.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah.
Reese: Like tons of action, but no scoring really.
Cokeley Brothers: lot of exchanges. Mm-hmm. No scoring. Not to be confused with Lucas Bird's match against Nasir Bailey, which was no scoring.
Reese: No scoring.
Cokeley Brothers: No scoring at all. Very boring. And then finally to wrap it up, another, but like another, like I'm just super intrigued because we didn't see the, either of these guys at all last year.
Cokeley Brothers: Uh, and one of them's got a new home. It's younger Bastida versus, uh, take a dolly.
Ryne: Yeah, this is my second favorite match of the whole thing.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Me too. For me, it's, it's one 41 and then it's two 85.
Ryne: Yes.
Cokeley Brothers: And then like, don't know after that, but yeah. Yeah. I'm excited for this for the set of matches, and I do want to do picks eventually. For now, going to hold off.
Cokeley Brothers: Figure out later.
Cokeley Brothers: But that's the All-Star Classic. There's also... There's a D2-D3 matchup. um There's a... There's four sets of women's matches. But we're idiots, so we don't know what's going on there.
Cokeley Brothers: So... um Other pieces of info. Other things going on. Real American Freestyle has an event coming up. It's not final. U23 entries are out.
Cokeley Brothers: I haven't done really enough research to kind of give the down low on it. um
Cokeley Brothers: And who's number one is happening this weekend? We can look at that. I don't really have... I probably have more to say about this year than last year, actually. Ryan, do you want to get off your phone and talk about it little bit maybe?
Ryne: Sorry, I was reading reading something really funny. It was actually hilarious.
Cokeley Brothers: Okay.
Ryne: But, I mean, i before...
Cokeley Brothers: Okay. That's cool.
Ryne: I'm also always checking the the update to the Cubs game and the Chiefs game. Chiefs are tied 14-14 right now, by the way.
Cokeley Brothers: No, it's fine. It's fine. It's fine. Whatever.
Ryne: So maybe maybe maybe I was too hard on the Jaguars. But...
Cokeley Brothers: and Maybe you were. Maybe Trevor Lawrence is starting to figure some things out. Maybe he was pretty good when he played for Clemson.
Ryne: Yeah...
Ryne: Michael Moreheader- Sure, I already knew that but.
Cokeley Brothers: Was it Clemson?
Ryne: Michael Moreheader- yeah you had it right you got it.
Cokeley Brothers: He played for Clemson? Okay. I was like, maybe it was Auburn. I don't know. An orange team. Syracuse? Anyway.
Ryne: Moreheader- you had a right Clemson.
Cokeley Brothers: Let's just run through some like some matches with some names that I recognize for who's number one. was like, that's a good idea. And it's actually... The first one, Rockland Zinken versus Dom Unoretto.
Cokeley Brothers: Who's number? Oh, so it's super strange. Wait. Oh, okay.
Ryne: No, that's a three-way, that's a three-way right?
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Ryne: listen't it
Cokeley Brothers: Because I was like, Landon Sidon, where is he?
Ryne: Isn't Dom...
Cokeley Brothers: late So the winner of...
Ryne: Isn't Rocklin and Landon wrestling the wrestling and then the winner gets Dom? Isn't that how that one is?
Reese: think Landon...
Cokeley Brothers: Dom and Rockland. They're two and three, or three and two. And then the winner gets Sidon.
Ryne: weird to me.
Cokeley Brothers: Why?
Ryne: I don't know. I don't know. It just is. Because Dom, because, yeah, but Dom has all those world titles.
Cokeley Brothers: Don Monoretto took some losses.
Ryne: I don't know. But I also haven't been paying that close attention to the high school scene, so.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah. ah Yeah. It's always fun to see to see the the little mini brackets, even if it is half a mini bracket. Melvin Miller was supposed to wrestle Jaden James. i wonder I do wonder what happened. Maybe...
Cokeley Brothers: Maybe Jaden's getting bigger. Did you guys see the goat follower on Twitter? Jaden has an older brother. Jaden has an older brother who's about 200 something pounds and like built out. So yeah, Jaden's probably going to be like 184 in college.
Reese: All right.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah. Which is intriguing.
Ryne: Jaden James.
Cokeley Brothers: Yes. What did I say? Jaden Rainey.
Ryne: I was just, I was clarifying.
Cokeley Brothers: Okay, cool. Yeah, you wouldn't need to if you were off your phone, but it's okay.
Ryne: ah i just, I'm trying to get some context here on what's going on.
Cokeley Brothers: Just...
Ryne: I'm sorry.
Reese: I got to ask you guys a question real quick.
Cokeley Brothers: On the matches?
Ryne: Yep.
Cokeley Brothers: Of course.
Ryne: I'm ready.
Reese: What did you think? What are your thoughts? What were your thoughts on the rocks pipes video that I sent you guys? Did you watch that video?
Ryne: Which, what? Whose hype video?
Reese: The pipes in the rocks?
Ryne: i What the fuck? That wasn't real. That was parody, right?
Cokeley Brothers: No, that was like ah that was like ah like a widest kids you know skit.
Reese: Yeah.
Ryne: Yeah, yeah.
Reese: That yeah, that dude's like, there's a lot of random comedy stuff.
Cokeley Brothers: like
Cokeley Brothers: that ah
Reese: How great was that video?
Cokeley Brothers: i I watched that at like... When did you send it? send it Yeah, I think you sent it yesterday.
Reese: Maybe yesterday?
Ryne: Yeah, I mean, I watched two minutes of it and was like, okay.
Cokeley Brothers: think I watched it this morning.
Ryne: It was the part where where it was clearly a false rock with pipes inside of it, and I was just like, done with this video.
Cokeley Brothers: Like I found this rock and I'm starting to get a headache and feeling tired.
Reese: really tired.
Ryne: I'm really tired around it, yeah.
Reese: Okay, I was talking to the 16-year-old, but I was just trying to find a rock expert.
Cokeley Brothers: ah um,
Reese: A rock pipe expert. All
Cokeley Brothers: um I watched it at like four o'clock this morning in bed with no audio on because I was right right next to ah ah my sleeping wife.
Reese: right.
Cokeley Brothers: And so I'm, um' it's it's kind of funnier to watch with no audio. um
Ryne: That's why I'm laughing.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah. Cause I'm like, wow, this is crazy.
Ryne: I'm imagining you right
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah.
Reese: No, it's so much funnier with audio.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah.
Ryne: But it's also funny to imagine someone watching it without audio trying to comprehend what's going on.
Cokeley Brothers: yeah
Reese: Yeah.
Cokeley Brothers: yeah
Cokeley Brothers: Couldn't really. Yeah, Reese, that was a good video. I like it when you send stuff to us.
Reese: I sent that to a bunch of people.
Cokeley Brothers: It's like... Good. You guys didn't respond to the thing that I sent, and that's fine.
Ryne: That's because your videos suck.
Cokeley Brothers: That's... That's freaking fine.
Reese: What did you send?
Cokeley Brothers: Whatever. Something like a every burger commercial ever.
Ryne: I don't even ever remember that. I'll
Cokeley Brothers: Yep, it's fine.
Cokeley Brothers: I'll just... a
Ryne: be 100% honest
Cokeley Brothers: lay down prone on the street and but like let the world figure it out.
Reese: prone.
Cokeley Brothers: Antonio Mills, Paul Kenny. Is that, that's the one that we saw at Fargo, right?
Ryne: At Fargo, yeah.
Cokeley Brothers: That match was fire.
Ryne: This will be folk style, though. Will it be more or less fire?
Cokeley Brothers: I know. You know what? They need to bring back, they need to bring back Freestyle, who's number one.
Ryne: They never will.
Cokeley Brothers: Those matches were gas. ah Yeah, two Mills brothers. Orion Mills is also wrestling. He's got Turner Ross, who I don't know much about.
Ryne: Turner's tough. Oklahoma kid. He's not bad.
Cokeley Brothers: Yes. Jaden Rainey, Moses Mendoza. Apparently Moses Mendoza is becoming a force. Where's he committed to?
Ryne: Oregon State?
Cokeley Brothers: Really?
Ryne: Michigan.
Cokeley Brothers: Really?
Ryne: Michigan.
Cokeley Brothers: Which one is it?
Ryne: Michigan.
Ryne: I thought he was going to end up at Oregon State.
Cokeley Brothers: Reese, do you hear that?
Ryne: But I think he ended up at Michigan.
Reese: Yes. Cut that
Ryne: We can hear your keyboard, Sammy. It's not that quiet.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah, but is it is it as loud as the last one?
Ryne: No.
Cokeley Brothers: Didn't think so.
Ryne: mr Mr.
Cokeley Brothers: Didn't think so. He appears to be...
Ryne: I have like seven keyboards. Yes.
Cokeley Brothers: He appears to be committed to Michigan.
Reese: cut that out
Ryne: Yes.
Ryne: Sorry.
Cokeley Brothers: ah Yeah, Mendoza, Jaden Rainey, that'll be a really good one. Kobe Merrill, Michael Mako, even though it's not for number one, it's fine. It's still going to be ah pretty good matchup.
Ryne: Oh, no.
Cokeley Brothers: And then, of course, Bo...
Ryne: they'll Whoever wins will jump Dreshawn Ross.
Cokeley Brothers: Now... but Not in the rankings that matter.
Ryne: That's how Flo does it.
Cokeley Brothers: that's not though Those rankings matter, right? You want to be amateur hour, you use Flo's rankings.
Ryne: Yeah.
Ryne: I would never do that. Never to my boy, my homie.
Cokeley Brothers: Okay, alright.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah. ah And then to cap the night off, I got Bo Bassett, Jordan Rainey, which should be great. I
Ryne: I see all these all these burner accounts that just try to shit on Willie, and I'm just like, you guys are pussies.
Cokeley Brothers: i mean, I... going to get into Willie's antics on Twitter are very hot and cold for me.
Ryne: So funny.
Reese: He brings it on himself.
Ryne: So funny.
Cokeley Brothers: No, as it's very fresh.
Reese: He knows what he's doing.
Cokeley Brothers: it's But it's also... it's Yeah, i am
Ryne: Look, he's triggering you, Sammy. He's doing exactly what he wants.
Cokeley Brothers: I am pissed. I am pissed because we talked about this last episode. The fact that we are limiting competitive opportunities for wrestlers over what?
Ryne: I you want my honest opinion on that. I think that has less less to do with Willie than you think.
Cokeley Brothers: Over a...
Cokeley Brothers: im I'm sure it doesn't have something to do with Willie, but I, in my mind, it is at least a little hypocritical to be, to have, for him to have openly voiced the thoughts and feelings that he has about,
Cokeley Brothers: you know, holding onto things and not sharing things. Right. And I know we said, Oh, it's different. Cause it's media. It isn't it in it. And it isn't different it because you are limiting competitive opportunities for guys in a sport where we are already starved for matches.
Cokeley Brothers: We're starved, right?
Ryne: Listen, listen, listen.
Cokeley Brothers: Right. We're at the, brian we're at the food line and we're saying more, sir, please.
Ryne: Listen, what do you want Willie?
Cokeley Brothers: Can I have some more wrestling?
Ryne: I doubt it's Willie's decision. And what do want Willie to do? Condemn, condemn the people he works for?
Cokeley Brothers: I can, it I, in and maybe that's the problem. Maybe he's, maybe it's a situation where he doesn't feel comfortable saying I disagree with it.
Ryne: Yeah, because he believes in RAF and he wants to help it succeed and he doesn't want them to boot him, even if he does have feelings that are contradictory to what they're doing.
Cokeley Brothers: Okay. And so, and, and so I'll say, I'll be the guy who says what he thinks.
Cokeley Brothers: Real American Freestyle does not have enough of a presence and enough of a stranglehold on the market to be able to enforce ah non-competes upon athletes. ah Realistically.
Cokeley Brothers: Now, guys are obviously going to take the opportunity that they're providing because they're putting up a bunch of money behind it.
Ryne: i think I think they do
Cokeley Brothers: What that scares me by is the fact that if you turn through your money that quickly, how much longer are we going to be digging before we hit the bottom of the well?
Reese: damn
Ryne: Are you scared, Sammy?
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah, I mean, it's ah it's a it's a competitive league, an opportunity for more high-level wrestling. And if it is ah struck down by people working on the inside who have the wrong ideas, which is not what i I'm saying. I'm not saying that that's Willie.
Cokeley Brothers: Like we said, we don't know who's making the choices here. If the wrong people are making the the important choices and they're doing them incorrectly, then it won't work. and And this is, if this doesn't work, it'll be pretty hard to see anything that does work in the future, in my mind.
Reese: What are you doing over there?
Ryne: I didn't mean to. That was an accident. I was cleaning up some dust.
Cokeley Brothers: you just seem You just seem so uninvested, Ryan.
Ryne: And...
Ryne: No, I'm invested. i
Reese: what What was that?
Cokeley Brothers: And our viewers are concerned.
Reese: What good what does that?
Cokeley Brothers: Our
Ryne: i was listening to that.
Reese: but does yeah
Ryne: That was an accident. 100%.
Ryne: I didn't even know there was a disc in the PS4.
Cokeley Brothers: viewers are concerned, Ryan.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah, what was it?
Ryne: Big Bang Theory.
Ryne: that's That's why I went like this. i was like, what the...
Cokeley Brothers: Okay. All right. I'm all out of stuff.
Ryne: no
Reese: I'm hungry.
Cokeley Brothers: Reese is hungry.
Ryne: I'm hungry.
Cokeley Brothers: I'm kind of tired.
Reese: Hunger.
Cokeley Brothers: It's late.
Cokeley Brothers: Hunger.
Ryne: Hunger.
Cokeley Brothers: Okay. Closing thoughts.
Ryne: I think that we will be fine.
Reese: Yeah.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah, we'll be fine.
Reese: Everything's going okay. Everything's going to okay.
Ryne: Everything's going to work out.
Cokeley Brothers: Everything will be all right.
Ryne: There's a plan and it's all going to work out.
Cokeley Brothers: Right.
Ryne: Closing thoughts. you want to you want You want me to talk about the stuff I'm seeing on Twitter?
Cokeley Brothers: oh. What is it? What's on over there?
Ryne: Oh, son of a... Sorry, I'm looking at fantasy football now. um
Cokeley Brothers: You know what? Hang on. No, this got me, this got me into a bit because I did get, I got into a slight debate. I think this was, this was Saturday or Sunday because the all-star classic got dropped and people were complaining about the fact that it wasn't like the highest, the number one versus number two matchups.
Cokeley Brothers: And somebody was saying something to the effect of, ah well, to them, it's just not worth the risk. And I'm like, what risk? What risk is there?
Cokeley Brothers: they're They're being offered money to go wrestle. Okay? you're They're not going to have that happen for the rest of the season. And they're like, are you dumb? They're on scholarship. Clearly, they're getting paid. you're you shouldn't be this You shouldn't be this naive.
Cokeley Brothers: That's not how scholarships work. Scholarships are not contingent upon the fact that you will do this minimum number of competitions. Scholarships require that you remain academically eligible And that you what you you work to start.
Reese: you
Cokeley Brothers: right Those are like the two things that you have to do to retain your scholarship. And I don't know what n NIL looks like. I'm too i too old to know what that looks like. But
Cokeley Brothers: i don't I'm tired of like the whole it's not the worth the risk defense for people not competing anymore. I don't get it. It doesn't make sense to me. It's one match.
Cokeley Brothers: You can get injured at injured at Nearly, maybe even a higher risk of injury in the practice room.
Ryne: Oh, 100% higher risk.
Cokeley Brothers: So, so if that's, if that's the case, well then maybe, maybe the people who ah are limiting themselves in the practice room, maybe they're the smartest people because it's just not worth the risk.
Cokeley Brothers: I'm tired of it. I'm tired of it. It's not worth the risk. I'm tired of, of, and I think generally we're moving away from this idea that people should compete less. I think the fact that our top talent is younger is forcing the idea that they want to compete more often. They want to go out and have matches and therefore the top level is competing more often.
Cokeley Brothers: And it's just a good thing for the sport, at least right now.
Ryne: Well, yeah.
Cokeley Brothers: see see, what it looks like in the future, but yeah, I don't know what you guys think.
Ryne: Good thing for us.
Cokeley Brothers: I'm just sick of the, it's not worth the risk defense for people not competing, particularly state college. Oh, you know, we we're only going to wrestle what matches we have to wrestle because seemingly that's what it's like.
Ryne: No, I know, I know. I mean...
Ryne: I agree, but also, Kale's job is to is to bring home national titles individually and as a team.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah. and And that's, but so,
Ryne: What'd you say?
Cokeley Brothers: I guess you're right.
Ryne: You're cutting in and out, sorry. Hmm.
Cokeley Brothers: No, I mean, I was, I was in real life cutting in and out. Uh, just you're right. You're right. Because like the all-star classic doesn't actually matter. And then making, this is probably where the real issue resides.
Reese: Thank you.
Cokeley Brothers: The amount of money that the all-star classic is offering is probably not equitable to the amount of money that people are making through NIL and scholarship. And therefore they say, no, thank you.
Ryne: What about national duels though? Now that, that is where I'm kind of like, come on, Cale.
Cokeley Brothers: Dude.
Ryne: Come on.
Cokeley Brothers: How much is it for first place?
Ryne: I don't, it doesn't take the money out of it.
Cokeley Brothers: Oh, but again, it doesn't, you got to win a national title.
Ryne: Take the money out of it.
Cokeley Brothers: National duels don't matter.
Ryne: But would it matter if it was sanctioned, if you were winning and you know what I'm saying?
Cokeley Brothers: Right. Yeah. I think that would be a different conversation and hopefully we're working our way towards that.
Ryne: Yeah, me too. But like, but so you're talking about what is something you're talking about the, n c you know, you just want it to be sanctioned by the NCAA for it to be real for you.
Cokeley Brothers: So,
Cokeley Brothers: Right, because because then then then he gets another tick in the win column for him.
Ryne: Come on now.
Ryne: It's a tick no matter what though.
Cokeley Brothers: Oh, God.
Ryne: You know what I mean?
Cokeley Brothers: Right.
Ryne: It's, it's all, it's,
Cokeley Brothers: First place at National Duels gets So 12 or 14. Who?
Ryne: divided by 10 is so 20,000 per starter or however many I guess well but let's say you have different guys wrestle huh
Cokeley Brothers: right so
Reese: But the wrestlers don't get the money.
Cokeley Brothers: twelve or fourteen
Reese: The wrestlers don't get the money.
Ryne: we
Cokeley Brothers: Well, they can.
Ryne: but the you distribute it my but you know what I mean obviously
Cokeley Brothers: It's up to the coaches. Yeah. Yeah. um They would for sure make money. like They would lose. It would cost some money to fly down there and stay and all that.
Cokeley Brothers: But they would ultimately make money.
Ryne: No, they wouldn't lose.
Cokeley Brothers: Now, is it worth the risk of injury?
Ryne: what do you mean? They wouldn't lose money. The school would pay for that.
Cokeley Brothers: Well, yeah. But like it comes out of the budget, traveling for that and everything.
Ryne: Dude.
Cokeley Brothers: It's middle school.
Ryne: You think?
Cokeley Brothers: All right. i'm I'm not, I'm not making, I'm not saying like it's an, it's an excuse.
Ryne: Yeah. No.
Cokeley Brothers: I'm just like factoring in all of the, the, the the digits.
Ryne: Feels like it.
Cokeley Brothers: Um, but, uh, yeah, it's free money for Penn state.
Ryne: Yeah.
Cokeley Brothers: They would take first pretty easily. Um, yes.
Ryne: Ooh, pretty easily.
Reese: Probably.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah.
Ryne: I don't know.
Cokeley Brothers: Yes, for sure. Yeah.
Ryne: I don't know about that.
Cokeley Brothers: Who's going to challenge them?
Ryne: I think David Taylor is going to challenge him this year.
Cokeley Brothers: Dude.
Cokeley Brothers: Their, their team, at least right now, their team is not looking amazing.
Ryne: Why? What do you mean not looking amazing?
Cokeley Brothers: Because we don't know what Alex Fakundo is going to look like. We don't even know if Lederian Lockett's going to be in the lineup right away. And if he is ready to go immediately. um I still think there are some questions around, Merrill. I still think, um, they haven't figured out what's happening between one 33 and one 49, one even.
Ryne: He's good. They're going to have a good team.
Reese: Mm-hmm.
Cokeley Brothers: think have a good team, but like, especially early on national duels are, um, they are November 15th, 16th, those two days.
Cokeley Brothers: It's very early on in the season.
Ryne: Have you, ye of little faith with the magic man.
Cokeley Brothers: I'm just saying, I'm just saying, and you know what? This is going to get dropped on October 7th. This episode is, they won't necessarily have their lineup fully figured out now on October 7th, which is tomorrow, which, so if you're listening, it's today.
Cokeley Brothers: ah The seats, they'll they'll be seating the top four teams for the national duels. And then everybody else will get randomly drawn in. The show to announce the seeds and announce the bracket will happen on the 7th at like 7 Eastern. and Flow is broadcasting it.
Cokeley Brothers: Flow has all of the duels except for the finals. yeah ESPN has the finals. um
Ryne: Are you guys going?
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah. I want to, Rhys. Rhys, can we make it happen?
Cokeley Brothers: Please?
Reese: Maybe. Maybe.
Ryne: How about this?
Cokeley Brothers: Please?
Ryne: December 21st, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, and Lincoln. Can we make that happen? December 21st.
Reese: maybe
Cokeley Brothers: Oh, for sure.
Ryne: I'm forcing Zach Hensley to go with me. I'm going to drag him down there.
Cokeley Brothers: I feel like he would be more than happy, wouldn't he? This is all modern.
Ryne: Uh, yeah, but I mean, all right. I basically got to tell his wife.
Cokeley Brothers: Hey, alumnus.
Ryne: I got to be like Sydney. I'm taking your husband with me this weekend.
Cokeley Brothers: My wife.
Ryne: He's mine, not yours. He's mine.
Cokeley Brothers: And you can hold on to Roman. and
Ryne: And Winnie, they have two now.
Cokeley Brothers: And Winnie.
Ryne: Winnie page.
Cokeley Brothers: Winnie Page. ah
Ryne: She's adorable.
Cokeley Brothers: Yeah.
Ryne: She's a little cutie.
Cokeley Brothers: Dude.
Cokeley Brothers: The season's coming. It's coming quickly.
Cokeley Brothers: Be ready for it. And yes, we will figure out what we are going to, because I do want to go to stuff this year. I'm going to try and go to an Indiana dual and a Cornell dual, at least one each. Um, and be a good fan of the sport.
Ryne: Ooh, which Indiana duel should you go to?
Cokeley Brothers: So,
Ryne: Let me look it up for you, Sammy.
Cokeley Brothers: all right, while you look that up, we're going wrap things up. Have a good, good rest of your day, whatever it is that you're listening. um Do all the things, liking and subscribing and sharing and tweeting and twatting.
Cokeley Brothers: Goodbye.
Reese: who
