Speaker: Welcome back to another episode of The Barn Session. We are here today on the eve of the Men's Freestyle Senior World Championships. As matter of fact, wrestling starts in about three and a half hours. So I would assume guys are weighed in at this point, probably.

Speaker: Warming up. At least awake. Getting ready for the day. For minute, they start at 12.30. Astana, Kazakhstan. Yeah, 12.30 Central. 1.30 Eastern. one thirty eastern in a couple of hours.

Speaker: That's exciting. Uh, very exciting. We've got Bo Bassett and Kyle Snyder and the two remaining women's weights.

Speaker: So yeah, I'm excited. That's happening. Uh, we can take a look at, uh, the draws that the men have. Um, maybe talk a little bit of Morgan Turner and, uh, maybe address the clipping situation.

Speaker: And, uh, Then we can start to look at some college stuff because ah season's right around the corner. As a matter of fact, it's, what, three days away? Four days away?

Speaker: So, yeah. Boys, where do you want to start?

Speaker: How do we feel about Bo Bassett? um Wait, let me see. haven't seen the back the

Speaker: Where do you him? what about Where do I find him?

Speaker: who

Speaker: I don't know. I can i can read off. he's got He's got the three seed from Canada first round. yes He's got he's got. Beyond. Beyond round one.

Speaker: And then after that, if he manages to win that match, which I think it's a match that he's capable of winning, but it's not exactly a lock one way or the other. Then he would have, I think, a significantly easier easier match between either ah France or Nigeria.

Speaker: Probably France, if I had to guess. And then in the quarters, he would have Magomedov from Russia, which I think would be the run killer. I don't think he's getting past Magomedov.

Speaker: But he's on the opposite side of Amuzad and Mamadab. Tavanyan's also on the top side.

Speaker: So I guess you can say it's not... He got a sick draw. Yeah, it's in terms of like drawing a top four seed round one, he got the best that he could have.

Speaker: Dude, what are you doing? Just adjust him. Okay. I just, I don't, i like, it you know, 65 is a really tough weight, and Bo Bass is a young kid. I just don't think that he's quite there yet.

Speaker: That's what I think.

Speaker: If he gets past the quarters, is he, you how do you, I mean, yes, Winnable.

Speaker: I don't know what it man. He's got a common opponent over him. Yes, Sujit has looked ah so much better this year than he did, at least in like that match from last year.

Speaker: Just saying. he can beat If he can beat Real, he can beat Sujit. ah You would at least... we saying Were you saying Sujit got that that much better than Real Woods in the span of a year?

Speaker: yeah I mean, I believe Suji was coming off of injury entering last year's World Championships, or or he had an injury not too far off from last year's World Championships, and I think he's basically at the point where he's fully recovered from that, and he's shown that in a lot of his results this year, including, like, beating Kiyuka,

Speaker: winning multiple... senior level events this year, I would I would say suji has established that he has continued to improve in the last calendar year.

Speaker: Great input, Reese. Who does your mouth? But who does Sujit um have to go through? Sujit has Switzerland and then Belarus or Moldova.

Speaker: Or is that? Yeah, that's Moldova. um And then... Could be Khudeev from Tajikistan or Ali Begov from Bahrain. So my question, I guess, is if we get to Sujit and we lose in the semis and wrestle for bronze, do we feel good about getting bronze?

Speaker: Feel pretty good. I'm picking bronze for Bo Bassett. Okay. Okay.

Speaker: um ah yeah Are you trying to go through all of the brackets and redo picks all over again? No, I'm just talking out loud. We don't have to do that. Okay. Okay. Okay. But yeah, I mean, but Bo starts, but Bo wrestles, and he's one of the two men's freestyle matches or weights tomorrow. Him and Kyle Snyder, and and we discussed that Kyle Snyder will have Sedge alive in the quarters because of their seeds. Yeah.

Speaker: um And along with that, on the top half of his bracket, he's also got Gibi Macharashvili from Georgia. He's a big new Baranowski. Bottom side is going to be Arash Yoshida, Hassan Yazdani Charadi, and Ahmed Tazudinov. Those are the big three at the bottom half. And my expectation is Tazudinov, but Yoshida's also shown that hes really tough. And, of course, Yazdani's an Olympic champ, so...

Speaker: It's really sort of a three-man shuffle based on your estimation of where each of them lie tomorrow. So I guess for them today.

Speaker: um

Speaker: Why are they doing 97 and 65 first? They seem to do them randomly. I i feel like the format that that was shifts every year. that has That's always typically been the last two weights.

Speaker: You because Snyder's been the last. Snyder, yeah. He's been the last weight class a lot. Pretty much every time, i feel like, in the world. but like he's been I feel like he's been first before.

Speaker: don't know. He wasn't last in 2018. He was second to last. But I think in 2019, he was last and that's when he got pinned. 2017 he was last, obviously. Oh, no, no, 2017. 2017 he was not last because... He was. That's yeah that's the one that i meant.

Speaker: um Well, it's because it was the last match that came down to the... I'm pretty sure. Or was 125 before 97? 125 was before It was the last I could have sworn it came afterwards and and we were watching. This was when I had just gone off to college and my teammates and I, we were all watching and we were like...

Speaker: Akul versus Petriushvili is a lot more fun to watch than Snyder-Sagulayev. Oh, maybe. I thought it was the last match. I might be flipping them. 2017, Sagulayev-Snyder was freaking amazing match.

Speaker: Yeah, but so was Petriushvili's Akul. Sure. There were like five lead changes. How many, but there wasn't there are a few in the Snyder-Sagulai match?

Speaker: And there was a lot more at stake, and it was two Olympic champs, like from the year before, two Olympic champs wrestling each other. Yeah, yeah. i' I'm talking from a raw wrestling perspective, not really patience

Speaker: thinking about the implications. Kyle Snyder and Sagulai. Confirmed. All right. Where were we? 97 kilograms,

Speaker: I think Snyder wrestles for a medal, no matter what, whether he beats Sadulaev or loses to Sadulaev. Well, as long as he makes it to Sadulaev. ah he he He does.

Speaker: His first matchup of the day is the winner between Turkey and Mongolia, and I think he's a couple steps ahead of both of those guys.

Speaker: um sad julyev has rizabek itmukhan who's a 92 kilogram world champ from a few years ago and then probably he'll have sakulov from slovakia and then snyder so honestly sad you'll have might be feeling it a little before even gets to snyder so There's a couple other more notable draws for for for the US reps.

Speaker: Kyle Dake is in the same quarter as Ramazanov, the Olympic champ at 86 kilograms from 2024. And Gassimpoor, as a matter of fact, those two will wrestle each other round one. And then Kyle Dake will see them in the quarters as long as he makes it there.

Speaker: And both of they both of them do, which or whichever winner does.

Speaker: And then if he makes, you got Kadeev, um and then he would have whoever would make the finals. If he if he makes that full run, ah pretty tough, man. Pretty tough draw for Dake.

Speaker: if he If he manages to win all those matches, which I think the best version of Kyle Dake can, no. I think it's hard to deny what he is capable of at at this weight, at this age, for the rest of the cycle.

Speaker: Did you want to comment from from one of us on that? for

Speaker: I don't know if Diggs in a medal. I mean, yeah, like they really loaded this possible. They really loaded one side of the bracket up. That is kind of BS. Let me take a look here.

Speaker: Aren't off are all the best dudes pretty much on one side? For the most part, Dejoiev, the top seed, is good. um Magomedov is a two-time U20 world champ from France, also on the top half.

Speaker: Vladimir Gamkrelides from Georgia is very, very solid. Kozak said all four the guys he picked to place are all on the same side. Yeah, he picked Kadiv, Dake, Ramazanov, and Gassimpoor to all-medal.

Speaker: And they are all on the bottom half. You you knew Gas and Khadija were going to be down there and Dake and Ramazanov got drawn into that quarter on the bottom. Didn't Gas and Porn draw Ramazanov right away too?

Speaker: Yes. Yeah.

Speaker: Yikes. These things happen. These things happen. Yeah, it's it's not is going to be difficult for Kyle Dake to medal. But if he does, that bodes really well for his capability.

Speaker: I mean, he should make the quarters, right? He should make the quarters. And I think you know whether he has Ramazan over Gassampur, they will have gone through a war to have made it that far. So another he did schedule it that situation where... I mean, he just needs to get one win over one of the guys who he who he would have had to beaten anyway to medal. And And he's in for a medal match. So yeah I think he got a pretty good draw.

Speaker: You think he got a good draw? I mean, he he could have had Ramazanov's draw, couldn't he? Or no, was he... Yes, I think Ramazanov would be the only worst draw that he could have had.

Speaker: If you flipped him and Ramazanov, it would that would be worse. But I don't think there's any other way to make it worse. I mean, I guess you could know because Khadiv, Kugi, Gamkrelides and Dejoyev are all seeded.

Speaker: um Yeah, the two guys that were notable to get drawn in are Ramazanov and Dakin. They're both in that quarter with gas and Khadiv is also on that half. I do feel i do. I do agree with your first sentiment, though, that the like, the only person who got a worse straw than Dake was probably Ramazanov.

Speaker: Right? now I think the second the second quarter is the only really easy one, right? it's the easiest one yeah because top top quarters got the joy of in in kugi who was 79 kilogram world champ for greece last year and i mean he's kind of had a rough go at 86 but still he's growing he's growing the georgian and the dude from france are both pretty tough anyway yes so i mean they're all tough it's pretty i don't know i think i like his shot his shot to metal

Speaker: You know what a great best of three series is? I just watched it the other day. Dake versus Jaden Cox. Amazing, dude. What an amazing tournament that was.

Speaker: I forgot how great of a series. Oh, dude, what an amazing tournament, too. Yes, yeah absolutely. Absolutely. I just forgot. I forgot how crazy that series was. Dude, we have not had...

Speaker: world tournament since that like i would say 2017 was the last crazy world tournament or world uh team trials i don't know and now that they're taking think final x has kind of taken away from that a little bit um and now that they're what are are they getting rid are they like fully dropping final legs I think for next year because of the expedited process that they want to have. I don't know I haven't fully looked into the process the world team selection process.

Speaker: I wouldn't be sad on if they just if Final X just kind of disappeared, if I'm being honest. Yeah, let's go back to the let's go back to the old ways. I kind of like them. miss the old ways. i mean, was probably crazier than twenty sixteen twenty seventeen world team trials was insane JV Dake.

Speaker: but i do i Listen, from a fan perspective, bring back the old ways. From a coaching or athlete's perspective, keep it up. Keep Final X. Keep it up with the Final X. It makes the most sense, dude. It makes the most sense. both Postponing. Yes, no more postponing. Yes, no more postponing, crazy postponements like that. Sammy, it makes the most sense. Like, to to make a guy go through the gauntlet and then to wrestle on the same weekend, wrestle a dude who's just been sitting and fresh as heck, like, that doesn't make sense.

Speaker: It really doesn't. Not from an athlete or coach's perspective. Like, Final X makes the most sense to, like, figure out who the best guy is.

Speaker: what if we What if we pull back on the reward that we give to our medalists and champs?

Speaker: I would be okay with only letting only letting gold medalists sit. I would be okay with that. No, no, no. You sit in the semis as a medalist.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: I would be okay with them. Only gold medalists sitting at final X. I would be okay with that. I just don't. I can't i really I can't get behind Final X anymore.

Speaker: Why? I think I'm anti Final X. So you so you're we're on the same page.

Speaker: What's your page? Tell me. about I don't know. I don't want to find out. I'm cool if they if they ditched Final X completely. But why? Because i I don't what I just said earlier.

Speaker: don't remember what we said. i I want to hear your why. i

Speaker: I have a hard time believing that the process of both of your both of the guys who sit in Final X have gone through a tournament to be where they are, right? what You've either medaled at Worlds or you won the US Open.

Speaker: Or you won the US Open or you won World Team Trials. So you've proved that, yes, you can go through the two day morning of weigh in situation that you would see at Worlds.

Speaker: Okay. That works. But now we're in a situation where you know your matchup and you can prepare for this

Speaker: Basically, a game plan period for one match, for one guy, rather than just what's the best version of myself that I need to make for the World Championships, where it's a bracket, and I don't know who I'm going to wrestle until 24 hours before the finish. You're talking about Zane Richards. Zane Richards. I mean, I think there's multiple instances of it. Zane Richards would never make a team pre-Final X, my opinion.

Speaker: I agree. and And that's because of the point that Sammy's making right now. Zane was able to game plan for just Thomas Gilman. And then when he instead of preparing himself to be the best version for the World Championships, and then you know when you he beat Thomas Gilman and then went to Worlds and laid an egg.

Speaker: and it That might be nitpicky. It might be an exception rather than the rule. but I've thought that, though. I agree with it because I've thought that. think I think when there's 10 spots, you kind of have to – don't know.

Speaker: I felt the same way with Chance Marsteller and Jordan Burroughs, too.

Speaker: yeah Listen. ah I'm just saying from it it makes it does make the most sense from an athlete's perspective. yeah to do it the way To do it with Final X, it makes the most sense. The solution is not to go back to the grind that you're talking about.

Speaker: Or the the grind of of the old ways. whoa whoa Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Before we did before we started doing Final X, what did we do at Worlds?

Speaker: I don't think won. I don't think we won we won a World Team title. Yeah, but we've won world team titles with final look at the Final X process. um um My point is is it wasn't broken.

Speaker: there was We didn't necessarily need to have Final X. What we were doing before worked just fine. And I think from a fan perspective, I mean, obviously, fan-wise, way better. We went a lot more now.

Speaker: We went a lot more now. Well, I think Russia, when you consider what Russia is now and what Russia has been for like the last five years, and it kind of – it's understandable why we've been winning more because we took – I mean one of our biggest competitors, if not our biggest competitor, was taken out of the equation.

Speaker: Yeah. I also – while Brian Walechu, I think – I think there are two different forms of poison being given to the, uh, to the maintainer of the weight class, right? To your, to your longstanding representative, you either metal and sit in the finals of earth, sit in final X, but then you've got this guy who's like, I only need to beat this dude two times. I only need to be better than this one guy for, for 12 minutes to achieve my goal versus you yourself, who you're trying to go out there and win a world title.

Speaker: Or you can go to the old ways where it's like, okay, i am the i'm the returning world champion, but I got to go through this grind of U.S. opponents to make the world team again. Like what poison would you rather deal with?

Speaker: That's what I'm thinking about. You're thinking about the athletes? Listen, I'm going to go back to it. I don't care so much about what the athletes want. Gold medals. That's

Speaker: That's ridiculous to say sorry. I'm sorry. recently's ridiculous I think ah I think recent time out weather. I'm a two minute timeout for race. Please shut him off for two minutes. Two minute timeout please. Thank you. All right.

Speaker: Just kidding. I'm just kidding. me But that was egregious. Yeah. Well, I think athletes make decisions that you know are self-serving and not – obviously. i don't think there's Of course. Yeah, exactly. So course they're what they want necessarily shouldn't be what we get.

Speaker: To a degree. I agree. To a degree. I think there has to be compromise. Sure. Compromise, of course. But –

Speaker: Yeah, that's the thing. Competition and wrestling, it's a grind. And so whenever the athlete's like, I don't want to i don't want to do the grind. It's like, well, you're kind of in the wrong sport.

Speaker: You're kind of doing the wrong thing. Go get a desk job.

Speaker: feel like I feel like so some people were trying to have their cake and eat it too. It's like, no, this is going to be tough. It's going to be a hard thing that you got to You shouldn't have to win two matches every year and then go wrestle world championships, and that's all you You got to more than Otherwise, the sport will die. It'll just die.

Speaker: I like my idea of just rewarding gold medalists. I feel like that doesn't fix it. i mean, I don't have a problem with it.

Speaker: Why? I think we should definitely be rewarding at least our gold medalist. Yeah. So like reward, reward, how reward in what way? Just think only our gold medalist sit, sit in the finals. Yes.

Speaker: See, I still feel like you're going to have the, the up and goal guy who has to go through the tournament. Who's going to be like, i just, I just had to wrestle four or five freaking matches and he's sitting there fresh all weekend. But if you, if you sit him instead of in the finals and the semis, at least it's a little bit closer. Yeah.

Speaker: why dude he He went out and won a gold medal for for the america for the United States of America. Yeah. I do think we should be rewarding at least the gold medalist.

Speaker: We're rewarding with the semis. No. It's got to be more than that. We have to protect them. We do have to protect to a degree, protect the best wrestler we have.

Speaker: Yeah. And I think the degree is the semis. Way better than opening round. Just let him sit. Let them sit. Okay. Has to be some incentive.

Speaker: All right. I just... Okay. I'll be honest with you. I like the process we had for trials in 2024. Olympic team I don't know.

Speaker: They just wrestled, didn't they? Didn't just everybody wrestle? Oh, Olympic trials. Yeah, Olympic trials, 2024. twenty twenty four Yeah, where the non-weight medalist is in the semis?

Speaker: You just don't really get that. in If they were medalists, yes. I know, but I mean, i just liked the process. I liked the the way that we did it in 2024. What did you like about them in the semis?

Speaker: um We rewarded them for getting a medal, even if it was at an Olympic weight. They should be rewarded for that. <unk> not it's not It's not their fault that their weight is not an Olympic weight.

Speaker: Right. When it should be. did that in 2021, too. Did we? I thought we only did it in 2024. We did it in 2021. Kyle Dake sat in the semis of 74 kilograms, and then Jason Nolfe made it to the semis, and Dake bombed him.

Speaker: Okay. ah Well, I liked it then, too, then. Yeah. Okay. That's that. I mean, i yeah, I think it's a good thing. I just think, I think if we, if we go back to sitting any medalists in the finals of a, of a two day tournament, we're, we're going we're going to hear the same gripes we've heard in the, in the 2010s.

Speaker: But I think I only can think of one guy who publicly griped about it. Dake. Yeah. Unknown, unknown griper. Yeah, he was griping about it forever. yeah I mean, who went through the process more than him? Who went through the grind and then? Yeah.

Speaker: here

Speaker: and then and then

Speaker: I didn't really mean what I just did there. You did. No, you meant it. that You meant it. We good. We good, Kyle.

Speaker: We cool? We cool? All right. Pound it. Pound it, dog. Let's skate through these remaining weights. Spencer Lee, great draw. Spencer Lee, great draw. It was kind of hard to get a bad draw at that weight. There's not really a whole lot of sharks in the water.

Speaker: Right? Sure. Sure. um James Green's got a bit of a gauntlet. Who? Tomon Betov round one. You still thinking Green for gold?

Speaker: And then Yandani in the quarters, Sal Kazanov in the semis, and then probably Yoshi in the finals. so he I mean, just banger after banger of a match. He could do it.

Speaker: Right, Reese? Sounds like you're hoping he doesn't. Me? Yeah. No, I'm asking you if you feel so confident about Green for gold. Well, who's this Kyrgyzstan guy he's got? Is he good?

Speaker: Toktoman Badov, he's decent. He's medaled at some international events. How good is Shariav also? ah 74 or kilogram. 2024 70 kilogram world bronze medalist fell to Yoshi.

Speaker: He's all right. I remember him. Yeah.

Speaker: And then I think he'll have... a You think you have Yazdani, Sharady? Probably. I mean, you've also – I told you about the Cuban. Maybe the Cuban can make some noise. And Kuro Magomedov from hung Hungary is also tough.

Speaker: One of those three. Probably Yazdani.

Speaker: You could have had a better draw. I'll give you that much. Yeah. good There are some better draws out there. But, I mean, it's it's a tough weight. Mm-hmm.

Speaker: Yeah. At 61 kilograms. The bottom corner pretty loaded. At 74. Yeah. The bottom quarter? Elbakid's Byramov kind of hasn't done anything in a while. And Rasadin's getting old.

Speaker: But Katonov. Yeah. This Valiyev dude, I feel like he's good too. Maybe. I don't know. That might just be because his name's Valiyev. Maybe. ah Potentially. Oh, we lost Ryan. i didn't realize we lost Ryan.

Speaker: What do you you um

Speaker: go? 61 kilograms, Marcus Blaze.

Speaker: I don't i mean i don't think there's anything particularly bad or maybe really even exciting about his draw. He's got the two seed in the quarters and then probably the three seed in the semis.

Speaker: This is just what he... It's exactly what he wants, huh? A not exciting draw. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I still think that there can be... Good draw for Marcus, says Ryan. There can still be an international opponent that sort of blitzes him early in the match and then holds onto that lead.

Speaker: Blitzes him? Yeah, like the Kyrgyzstanian did at U23s. It was 65 kilograms, so it's a bit of a different situation, but with age comes strength, and so... Well, how did he it U23's 65? 0-1.

Speaker: Oh, shoot. Or 1-1. I forgot about that. In fact, I still don't really remember what happened. He got blitzed early in the match and then couldn't make a comeback. Yeah, like what was the score?

Speaker: I want to say 4-2, maybe? Let's take a look here. Um, I feel like sort of a problem with Marcus blaze and I, and he, he can open up a little bit, but it's sort of, yeah, he went Oh, and one, he lost four to two.

Speaker: Um, His defense is so strong that he's able to rely on that for a counteroffense. But whenever he's trailing, I think it's generally harder for him to find a way to come back. I mean, what kind of percentage are you given in his first two matches?

Speaker: what What kind of percentage would you give any of those guys to beat him? Yeah, I mean, Moldova, Macedonia, Turkey, probably... Five? Five?

Speaker: i was going to say more like 20. 20? Yeah, I mean, maybe you're right. I think it's a little unknown for me is the problem. It's a little unknown. His freestyle credentials are well established.

Speaker: Yeah, but he's young.

Speaker: I mean, that's good. That's good for – it's typically good in these situations. Okay. But yeah, I think we should see him in the finals against Aguev or maybe Haratunian makes the finals.

Speaker: Or maybe Caleb Smith. Caleb Smith, perhaps? what kind of What do you think? Do you think Bacarov is washed or what? He's just getting old, man.

Speaker: Getting old. it's hard for ram him to, I think, make 61 kilograms. Maybe not 61, but... He's just old. You think Tivanian has a shot at beating Nguyev? Tivanian.

Speaker: to Tivanians. We're not on that weight class. Dog. Yeah, those are two different weights. Hartunian. Hartunian. That's what I meant. Yep, my bad. Who's tapping their mic? It was Reese.

Speaker: I'm tapping phone. I want to say it was 5-4 earlier this year.

Speaker: Let me confirm that, though.

Speaker: Computer. Computer, confirm this. Computer. Computer. Make him. No. I can't think of any of the things he says. Super gay and super horny. Yeah, that's what I mean.

Speaker: yeah Yeah. Computer, body blast this guy. got so many good ones can't know why can't look up and he anything right now uww's had this really good search function on their website that i've been using today and now it's not working of course um yeah they wrestled in the semis of senior euros and it was four to three uh i guess iguov did pin them but it was late in the match i think cartooning went for something if i recall correctly

Speaker: I mean, yeah, I think i think if if you can blitz Spencer Lee, yeah, you've got some capability of beating a guy like Aguyev.

Speaker: Is that crazy? He can totally beat Aguyev. Okay. But I would not bet on it. No, I'm expecting the Russian to make the finals. The Russian. 125, Wyatt Hendrickson has Sharipov from Bahrain, round one. This guy's pinned Wyatt in the past.

Speaker: So a little bit of redemption is needed. If Wyatt can get past this match, then he will likely medal because it is pretty easy for him to walk to the ah to the semis where he'll have Zareh.

Speaker: See how that match goes. If he wins it, definitely medals. If he loses, Repashaj will be pretty easy for him.

Speaker: If he loses Sharipov, I don't think there's a high likelihood of Sharipov beating Zareh. So that'll be where things begin and end.

Speaker: I got faith in you, Wyatt. I'm picking you for gold still, brother. Let me tell you brother. brother. ah Levi Haynes, his draw's fine. He does have Kanaev in his quarter.

Speaker: i just i think that Levi's better than everybody in this weight. So I'm not worried about it. I want to see him. I want to see someone really... really push him to the to uh to a level that he hasn't had to find in a while i want to see that what in about a year in about a year are we saying chris minto didn't push him no okay I disagree with that. Chris Minto got a couple nice takedowns, and Levi said, all right, let me get a couple more. Let me just get right in on that leg. totally disagree with you. Oh, dude, he took him down right away.

Speaker: Right when he rightwood Minto got that second takedown, I think. Levi went in was like, all right, time it's go time. Minto took him down? Minto took him down twice, I think, in their first match. In the duel, yeah.

Speaker: Wow. don't remember that at all.

Speaker: i don't know why in my mind Levi didn't get taken down all year. Thinking of Josh Barr? I think multiple times.

Speaker: No, I'm thinking of Angelo Ferrari. Never mind. Angelo Ferrari. yeah i mean if it minto i think it's different I think it's a different type of of situation that Reese is referring to.

Speaker: um Being down late and you gotta go get it. Like the Usmanov match kind of.

Speaker: I do think Minto pushed him just different. Especially, I think the real pressure came from those matches where everything was was tight late.

Speaker: Both guys were in on shots. Neither were able to score. And you kept just thinking something's got to give. are you talking What are you talking about? Minto and Haynes. Like, the Big Ten finals.

Speaker: Meh. Minto just, he was just prolonging the inevitable. All right. ah Zane Rutherford, 70 kilograms. He's got Musakayev round two. Kan Habitav round three. And Akhmat Aliyev in the semis. And if he manages to get through that gauntlet, Musakayev against any American. Sign me up.

Speaker: Hell yeah. This has got to be one of the worst matchups that Musakayev could ask for. Besides Yanni? Yeah, he gonna get it. He's going to get trained. I mean, he train ran on him. He's gotten wins over Yanni. I'm just thinking about the pressure and pace that Zane Rutherford applies.

Speaker: Oh, he's going to apply that pressure. just, you know, I just can't help but remember the times that Yanni just murdered him on the mat. Yeah.

Speaker: Is that American versus American down there?

Speaker: but No, that's not... not i don't Maybe Ishmael wrestles in a... I don't know. But it's not that's not Omar. I know it's not Omar, but... Maybe he's brother.

Speaker: I don't know. um You also have Andreas on in the bottom quarter, so Akhmat Ali will have a tough one there. If Rutherford does get past Habitab, which is kind of one of the matches that i'm worried about for rutherford um he'll have a rematch against akhmatalia he lost to at raf earlier this year great match and then in the finals he can expect a match ibrahimov khalili tamur cheer maybe camera to leads maybe i don't know

Speaker: i would I'm putting my money on to Timur Ocher, and that would be probably his toughest match that he would have. It's tumor all day. Tumor. Give me Tumor.

Speaker: Not Tumor. And then lastly, Trent Hydeley's weight. He's got Tsukhaev in the quarters, and then Feroospur in the semis, which is a highly anticipated matchup. Probably the toughest match.

Speaker: that Trent would have if he manages to beat the Iranian. Got the Russian, uh, get to Michael Madov, uh, Dalit, Bekov, Karuliev and my Sarazi are all on the bottom side.

Speaker: Uh, whoever comes out of that group, probably Gadzi, but maybe Karuliev, Dalit Bekov's tough too. I just, i don't think we've seen him at 92 kilograms. I believe he's been at 86 for a while.

Speaker: So we'll see. Um,

Speaker: Yeah, that those are our draws. Like I said, wrestling starts in about less than three hours now. um Two and a half.

Speaker: Yeah. um

Speaker: Let's address the Morgan Turner situation. Bad luck. Should have talked about that first. Eh. It's all right. Make the people wait a little bit. If you don't know, Morgan Turner was disqualified in, I want to say it was round two or the quarterfinals of of her senior world championships bracket against the Russian.

Speaker: She was losing nine to seven or maybe it was eight to seven and ah hit her opponent in the eye, poked her in the eye. I think it was a caution one from that.

Speaker: The doctor deemed that the Russian could not continue things later. She it was said that she had a detached retina. I'm not fully certain. um And um Morgan Turner was disqualified.

Speaker: And then a lot of buzz on the Internet about her and. Being a dirty wrestler, suspension, being banned, never representing the US s ever again.

Speaker: Stirred up some racism. You know how it goes with the Internet. Listen, would would we even be talking about this if she didn't also have the incidents at U23s? Because we didn't even – no one even brought that that up.

Speaker: No one even talked about her incident, that you know the stuff that she was doing at U23s. Are you talking about the fishhook? is is that the Is there other stuff? Because let's be honest here. well I've seen fishhook. We've seen guys – we've seen wrestlers fishhook other wrestlers before. and say'll like Say it. Say it.

Speaker: ah Varner? from meap I was definitely talking about Millsap. Well, cra barner I'm pretty sure was a known fish hooker.

Speaker: Who did he fish hook? He fish hooked. Bergman? No, it was. Oh, it was a Kent. The Kent State guy. Oh, Kilgore.

Speaker: Kilgore. Yes, dude. I remember that. It was gnarly. Nobody really cared. I mean, in fact, people kind of thought it was funny. There were some people that cared for sure. Sure, sure. But overall. It did, sir. But that's the thing. that's And see, this is my point. This is my point.

Speaker: No, like, if the fishhook incident didn't happen at U23s, then no one would be coming after Morgan Turner the the way they are right now. i don't mean I don't believe so. not not She would not be getting as much heat. She's definitely getting the heat that she's getting right now because of the two incidents that happened so close to each other. I don't think I've ever seen someone do what she did with the eye poke. I don't think i've ever seen anybody do that. That was pretty pretty bad.

Speaker: Yeah. I mean, i i think there's some –

Speaker: Valid reasoning behind like it would definitely not be as heavily converse. She would not be as as strongly painted as a dirty wrestler if there were not multiple instances of behavior.

Speaker: Yeah. And you know, you can you establish a trend off of more than one instance of something. Um, I, you know, from my perspective, it was intentional. The fish hook inarguable, the eye poke.

Speaker: pretty... Inarguable. have yet to hear i've i've yet to hear something that has reasonably pulled me away from the idea that she was trying to poke her in the eye. i mean because you That's not how you tap a head.

Speaker: trying to you know and if If it's a slip of the finger as you're coming up, you would see a drag rather than... sta so mean and We're talking about an elite athlete here. She's not...

Speaker: you know out there being a spaz on the mat, yeah accidentally doing something like that. It's just a generational talent too. and that's what the I think that's something that's disappointing. You just want to see your the future of USA be better, i guess. Yeah, and I agree. it would it would be ah It would be awesome if if ah totally perfect behavior happened. you know Sure.

Speaker: But I do think it's important to recognize the fact that we're talking about an 18-year-old kid and that there can be some grace given to a person of that age. You know better. And mistakes can be made. I don't agree. You know better.

Speaker: You know better. I don't agree with that. I don't agree with giving the grace. i don't. You know better. But I think she can learn. I think she can better. She can learn. Sure, sure. better But but i don't I don't believe that we have to give her grace because she's 18. Like, no. You're mature enough to know. I think Gable Steveson got that grace.

Speaker: I think. By the wrestling community. I think we're talking about two totally different situations here. No, I think on the mat, he was – I mean he acted like kind of – I mean he didn't do dirty things necessarily, but he was kind of a you know a punk.

Speaker: And then there obviously was some stuff off the mat too. um And people – These situations are not the same to me. These situations are not the same to me.

Speaker: I'm kind of with Ryan on that. Well, what do you mean? like I think I understand the point that you're trying to make, Reese. Yes, that kid that they're young and they can make mistakes. I'm sure. yeah But you're you're you you're telling me you i mean you know better. like this is i like we' We're talking about like dirty wrestling. like You learn what dirty wrestling is at a very, very young age. Very, very young age.

Speaker: Yes. And at the age – and by the time you're 18 – and which, by the way, people talk about this. Women are supposed to be more emotionally mature than than men, right? and mature faster emotionally than men. Okay, well, then she should know then she should definitely know better if that's true.

Speaker: ah So when I say give her some grace, what does that – in your mind, what does that sound – what does that mean? is Like we – she shouldn't be getting – don't need suspend her.

Speaker: He doesn't need to be suspended, I think. If you suspend her, I think she suspending her for a year isn't the worst idea. Or maybe something that's better. How could you suspend her for a year for getting DQ'd? Does that happen? Because of two instances. Yeah, because of the repeat behavior. Did she get DQ'd at U23s?

Speaker: No, but it's blatant. But it's so blatant, dude. But she didn't get DQ'd. I mean, that doesn't mean... Dude, come on. i think that Let's use a little bit of logic here. Yeah, but you're not going to retro... wat You're not going to go back and... I don't think... i don't know. Man, I think this is i think this is a kind of a case of internet out like overreaction.

Speaker: I don't. There's definitely a lot of overreaction happening. I think the most rational thing that can be done is... There has to be some kind of suspension. the Why?

Speaker: i would say at the very least there needs to be ah and enforcement of sports psychology or anger management counseling, something like that. You got to – I mean and apparently you know according to commenters on on the internet or whatever that this is – that these two instances that we have now seen are not the only instances.

Speaker: I fully believe it. yeah I believe that. and but and so but like So then we have – then there has to be something done, Reese. Then then something has to deter her from doing this again. And if that means that she's not able to wear the red, white, and blue for a year, then so be it.

Speaker: At least we're not taking her an Olympic year away from her.

Speaker: Yeah, i think it's I think it's over. I think that's too much. What would be the right amount for you? I don't think she needs to be suspended like at all.

Speaker: i think i think I think anger management, like some kind of requirement for anger management, that seems like an appropriate thing. Yeah, most of the time that comes with a suspension. Like you're suspended until you ah but tell you you complete this course, yes.

Speaker: yeah i think the I mean, is that true? Is that really true? In most cases, like in in in businesses or on sports teams, yes, this is true. Yes.

Speaker: You cannot return to the team until you've until you've done your anger management course. If you've been, you know let's say you were a sexual deviant, you have to take these sexual harassment courses ah before you can return to whatever. I mean, it's it's it's true in most like professional settings, Reese. Yeah.

Speaker: yeah but mean We're not talking about sexual – we're not talking about – I know. I'm just saying. I'm using i'm just using ah you know broad examples here. Yeah. I don't think there needs to be any kind of suspension. I think i think that what Sammy suggested would make sense or something along those lines. Even a half-year suspension I think would be okay. There has to be some kind of deterrent, and i and courses don't – and just taking an anger management course doesn't always deter you.

Speaker: Yeah, I don't know. I don't she got disqualified from the tournament. I think that that is in itself a punishment. I mean, they didn't they just only disqualified her because the doctor said that the other wrestler couldn't couldn't continue. That was the only reason she got disqualified. Yeah.

Speaker: I don't know, man. I think there there is like i think the the amount of dirty wrestling that probably goes on, and especially even like at that level, is probably pretty it's pretty high. i mean I think these people do a lot of really dirty shit, but they do it way better than she did. you know like They hide it a lot better than she did.

Speaker: I can give you a much more blatant example that I don't think, I think didn't, nothing really happened about it. Busukaev trying to knock Yoshi out last year after, after their parterre exchange, because Aoyagi is grabbing his fingers and stuff.

Speaker: I mean, Moose got up and and was swinging full on. which Yeah, we got people getting in fist fights pretty on a pretty pretty regular basis. And then I think, didn't he wrestle the next day? Okay, so, I mean, strictly from a...

Speaker: How, as a USA Wrestling fan, how I want my athletes or how, you know... to portray or or what represent excuse me the red, white, and blue. like It means more.

Speaker: I don't care if about these other dudes representing other countries. You want to embarrass those countries? soa That doesn't bother me. ah That affects me none. But i as a patriot, like yes, the Morgan Turner stuff bothers me more.

Speaker: I mean, i get I totally get that, but I don't think it should... I don't think that as fans, we should make those decisions. I'm not saying we get to make those decisions, but I think it's totally fair for us to call for something.

Speaker: I think that's totally fair. Yeah, I'm telling you what I think. That's fine. And I'm not telling you you're wrong or… or anything like that, but I mean, for you to think, for you to make it sound like it's crazy for us to call for a suspension is also- you said there has to be I feel like there has to be. There has to be, yes. I feel like there should be some kind suspension. Like you're saying, you were would- I would do some kind of suspension. I would investigate. I would sit down. would talk to them.

Speaker: I'm not trying to say that. it's here i think it's you know I think it's an overreaction. will I will give you that. I did say i think it's an overreaction, and I do. I don't think it's an overreaction. If you were the one making the call, would you suspend her?

Speaker: Me? Yes. No. If you were the one making the call. Okay. And that's a difference of opinion. um There's definitely – I would rip her ass probably if I was her coach or if I was like Bill Zadik or Terry Steiner.

Speaker: Here's the other thing. she doesn't let anyone She doesn't let anyone from USA Wrestling sit in her corner. She only let wants her brother to sit in her corner. Yeah, and that's – I mean obviously – And from what I'm hearing – That's something you would have to address. From what I'm hearing, she's kind of a pain in the ass for USA Wrestling is kind of what I've heard.

Speaker: Yeah. then they should Then they should figure something out with that. I mean, it sounds like they're enabling. Like a timeout? I mean High-level athletes are never easy to manage.

Speaker: Yeah, it's – yeah. How would you deter her from doing it again, Reese?

Speaker: What I just said, do you really think – I'll be honest, Ryan. Do you really think suspending for a year going to make her suddenly just stop being the way she is?

Speaker: is's it going to hurt? I think it could hurt, yeah. think it could potentially hurt. Just suspending her No. No, it suspending her plus whatever.

Speaker: Plus maybe taking some classes and and trying to help her through some of her weaknesses. Yes. Yeah. I think you don't. I think you can do that without the suspension. Suspending her and making her maybe reflect.

Speaker: Yes, I think that's OK. I do think it's OK. I think you can do all that stuff without the suspension.

Speaker: So we're, ah we're good. We're good with suspending athletes for, you know, allegedly taking the wrong kind of medicine over the counter medicine, but we're not okay with suspending athletes because they wrestle to permanently damage their opponents.

Speaker: I mean, that, dude, that goes way over my head. I don't know. I don't necessarily agree with that either. No, I'm asking you. okay so That's what I'm saying. I don't i don't think it's i don't really like agree with that, but these are people who are making they're making the decision based on whatever.

Speaker: i don't know why they think they should be suspending athletes for that long based on you know athletes taking steroids or whatever they're taking to get an edge. I don't know. I think that's kind of an overreaction too. But then again, i don't know. i mean, if they didn't do what they did, would it, would it enable everybody else to, you know, would it cause people to, you Oh, shit. I can get – if this person did this and didn't get suspended for two years or whatever, maybe I should start doing that too. don't know. Okay. So you can use the same argument for the eye-poking, Reese.

Speaker: Yeah, if you want to look like an ass, if you want to look like a jackass, fine. I mean, that's what so Morgan Turner looked like, a kind of a bad person with her actions there. I mean, if that's what you want to, if that's how you want to portray yourself, go go right ahead, dude.

Speaker: Yeah, but then, okay, so and then we're not and then we're not doing anything about it, and then we're making it look like it were, you know, with it. say were not to not do anything about it. i I mean, you essentially you are.

Speaker: Not true. That's – like it's – you guys are talking about two different levels of corrective measure. That's – that is that is the the line that is being drawn here. And I i think both reactions are fine.

Speaker: I think – Well, what do you think should be done? So, well, when i when I put some of the the the overarching ideas in place, right, UWW and the various organizational bodies in place for different countries have a responsibility to compete in a sport under the fairness of the rules while also making sure that they are ah trying to keep their athletes and everybody else's athletes safe and healthy.

Speaker: ah I feel like USA Wrestling and UWW have some responsibility to look at the situation, fairly assess it and take some sort of corrective action. And I think really a ah suspension without any corrective i action during that time doesn't really do much.

Speaker: So let let me let me ask another question then. Let me throw this one out there. Was Northern Colorado wrong for dismissing Baylor Fernandez Reese? Dude, that's crazy that you said that. No, it's not. No, it's not. No, no, no, It's just not. Because I was just thinking. Okay. No, I'm saying it because I was also thinking. I literally crossed into my brain while Sammy was talking too.

Speaker: Yeah. That's crazy. Baylor. So wait, what your question? But answer my question though. What what was was the question? Was Northern Colorado wrong for dismissing Baylor Fernandez? Hell no, dude. I think, I mean, that dude was like mo doing some serious damage. He was scary. He frightened me out there. I mean, he was like, that was a dude who I feel like I would be genuinely afraid to wrestle.

Speaker: So here we've got but but here we've also got, we've got multiple instances, Reese. And apparently, you know, there's even more that we don't even know about.

Speaker: Allegedly. Allegedly. There's even more that we don't know about. This isn't the first time that she's inflicted bodily harm? Allegedly. according to According to commenters that I've seen on – Well, I need some video proof. I agree. agree. I'm just saying that's why I keep saying allegedly. Okay. Allegedly that's these these two times that she's been caught are not her first time first two times. I'm telling you though the fish hook that is not in my book. That's not it's the same as like what Baylor Fernandez was doing. It is still indicative of some sort of retaliatory behavior. Okay, but but dude Jake Varner was fish hooking people too.

Speaker: Which is still not cool. It's still not cool. He should have gotten – It's not cool, but it's not – you're not ripping dudes' shoulders out of their sockets. No. Right, right. Baylor – Baylor – Baylor-Fernandez example, like something needs to be done, right? But then – so does this become a slippery slope? It's like, okay, Morgan Turner. All she did was detach somebody's retina. Like, that girl's going fine.

Speaker: Well, a slippery slope, you know some might say, is a fallacy. And – kind of like you can't How do you use that as ah as a real argument? Okay, so where do you draw the line?

Speaker: Yes, thank you. Where do you draw the line? I think what you would have to do is you'd have to see her you'd have to see her continue to harm people in ah in a real way, like what she did here. like If she if she like like really messed that girl's like vision or if she like did serious long-term damage to her eye and vision, then I think Like that's one that's one strike, one example of something that you cannot – that cannot be allowed. And if she were to do it again, like within the same amount of time that like Baylor Fernandez was doing these things, and then again – don't know how many – mean Baylor would do it while he had like what, two or three instances? Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah, well, for they finally one one instance with one or two with Minnesota and two with northern Colorado. At least, yeah. yeah he He tried to rip off Tanner Cook's shoulder and he tried to blow out Tyler Lillard's knee. Well, Lillard's knee happened before Tanner Cook because Cook was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Speaker: He wrestled at the Big 12s that year.

Speaker: i thought I thought he got dismissed right after that. I think it might have been Lillard. Maybe it was. Yeah, I thought he had wrestled Lillard after Cook. Okay, maybe i'm so i I'm wrong. Okay. I thought Damien Hahn went out there and basically ripped into Troy Nickerson, I thought that was like it after that.

Speaker: No, I think it was when Tina Lillard went online and And called for the dismissal of Troy Nickerson, who's head coach in Northern Colorado. I do remember the Tina Lillard stuff. I actually had forgotten until you said that, yeah.

Speaker: Yep. How could I forget? Anyway. she would She would overthrow a nation for her. I mean, i right but rightfully so. I mean, dude, it was that was that was a bad deal. Yep. so but So, okay. So, my point was, Reese, is like,

Speaker: If we don't do anything, we don't do any kind of measures to protect our other, you know, these other athletes. and And then she does it again to somebody. Then, so then who's at fault?

Speaker: but She's at fault. What do you mean? Wouldn't USA Wrestling be – okay. So if it's your kid that it happens to after no suspension, nothing's happened, wouldn't you as a parent be a little bit pissed that USA Wrestling or UWW didn't do something to deter it from happening again? I didn't say they shouldn't do anything though, dude. I'm not – you're equating not suspending her with not doing anything. It's essentially – but that's – in my mind, that's essentially how it is because – Well, that's not that's not what it Because a suspension a suspension is the best way to deter somebody from doing it again, in my in my opinion. In my opinion.

Speaker: ah what I disagree. taking something taking Taking something away from somebody that they love to do, in my opinion, is the best way to deter somebody from doing something harmful again.

Speaker: that's That's just how I feel.

Speaker: Yeah, i think this is I think this just comes down to a difference of opinion, which is fine. Yeah, it's fine. I mean… Yeah, we'll see what happens. We'll see. I mean if she breaks someone or like severely hurts somebody in a match… Here's my problem, and this and this is not her fault at all.

Speaker: but i I blame… i blame you know to me What it looks like is going to happen is she's going to receive so much backlash, so much racial backlash from these fucking ignorant low IQ cornballs that you know she's not going to learn a lesson because people are going to come to to her rescue because of all the racism.

Speaker: guess Yeah, but there's also the people who – there are people who aren't being racist who are coming down on her. I know, i know, but those voices seem to be, you know, get a little bit quiet. We don't know. We don't know what's going on in her head. If if it were me, I'd be taking... can kind of tell what's... all You can kind of tell what's going in her head based on what she posts on Instagram. Based on what she posts on Instagram, you can kind of tell what's going on in her head, Reese. you can. just get more insight than none.

Speaker: But, I mean, we'll see. I think there are... intelligent people that can sit down and have conversations with her and something can be done.

Speaker: Also, i to end this conversation though, from what I heard, USA Wrestling can't do anything to her. It's up to you, WWE. See what they do.

Speaker: Probably nothing. so though and yeah I don't think they're going to anything either.

Speaker: Look, I got faith in the goodwill of Morgan Turner that she will ah do the right things to pro prolong the life the life and health of her career.

Speaker: So that's my estimation. I was going to talk about the copyright situation with UWW, but we're kind of running low on time. Do you want to do some lineups? What? Shit,

Speaker: man. I didn't think you guys were going to talk that long about Morgan Turner and the brackets went a little long. Hey, we got we had a good discussion. I liked it. I liked where we went with the discussion.

Speaker: You guys want to go to bed? I'm staying up. I'm going to be waiting for another... I might stay up, too. I didn't know it was coming up that quickly. Sammy, what do you watch?

Speaker: Do you have your own account?

Speaker: Maybe. what's What's your deal, man? What do you mean? Are we going to have to share? Are we going to have take turns? i think you're going get sleepy. You're going to share my account?

Speaker: You're going to be asleep. Shut up. Get out of here. Why won't you get your own account? Look, guys, if you're still if you're still listening over an hour into this podcast.

Speaker: Why won't Because i don't I don't make money. Yes, you do. I got no money, dude. That's not true. I'm tied up.

Speaker: I spend so much money. sorry Let's be real here. Who makes more money? You have more in, Sammy, but you have more in savings than I do. I know that for a fact. Yeah, but that could go, that could go away poof like that.

Speaker: Sammy has way more in equity than I do. What does that even mean? What do you mean youre You have more value. well you You know what it means. Don't act like you don't know what it means. I can't i can't pay ah i can't pay a Flo Wrestling subscription with my with the equity of my home no you pay it with the money that you make.

Speaker: It's earmarked. Yes. Yes. heres Here's the thing, Sammy. You said you would multiple times. I know. I did. ah did. Sammy, but can I be honest with you?

Speaker: What? if if If you have to choose between crunchy roll and flow wrestling you can just keep using my flow wrestling account sir Yeah, reese which one will I don't know you know, I haven't used your one forever. gonna be a 100 with you Sammy I'll give you you i fact from for dodge logged in the other day i'm gonna give you i'm gonna give you priority No, Reese, reese I – Priority, Sammy. You get priority. i sorry Listen, I will share. i will share. that's ah That's the only issue is Sammy is unwilling to share.

Speaker: no, no. Let me say let me say my piece. I told you that I would get my own account, and I will follow through on that promise.

Speaker: Listen, but you don't have to get your own account as long as you're willing to share. i just You're just not listening to me. You just can't let me finish my thought. you What are you going to say? Are you going to get an account or not?

Speaker: Yeah, I'm going get account, but just you arguing my financials is kind of driving me up a fucking wall. Well, I'm only arguing it because... Why do you think I am?

Speaker: Because you think. Because you said. Uh-huh. That you would get an account. Yeah, and so that's the only thing you have to say. yeah My word is my word. My word is my bond.

Speaker: Your word is fucking. what where Your word is. What? Your word is meaningless. I said I would get an account. I can still get one. No, you said you get an account by final X of last or like this summer.

Speaker: I think that was last year. I think I meant 2027, and then they didn't get it. See, this is why. Maybe maybe this is why, Sammy. Maybe you're driving me up a wall. we're both In fact, a couple of you are driving me up a wall with this shit.

Speaker: well when you didn't When I couldn't watch the World Team Trials or this year whenever it was last year, I was so fucking mad. yeah how How many feet up a wall were you?

Speaker: Sammy. Yeah. Touching the ceiling. I get it. Yeah. right, man. I'll do it. I'll fucking i'll do it. Okay. Folks, if you want to stop spats like this, please support the podcast.

Speaker: Oh, shit. We're still rolling.

Speaker: Yes, we're still rolling. Reese thought that was a personal conversation. shared out You aired out my bank statement on live television. you didn't air anything out. I said, you make more money than me.

Speaker: I'm being hyperbolic. I'm being dramatic. Thank you everybody for listening. Have a blessed day. We're still rolling. Bye.
