Taylor Armstrong's Success Story

00:00:03
Speaker
Welcome to the Solarpreneur Podcast, where we teach you to take your solar business to the next level.
00:00:08
Speaker
My name is Taylor Armstrong.
00:00:10
Speaker
I went from $50 in my bank account and struggling for groceries to closing 150 deals in a year and cracking the code on why sales reps fell.
00:00:19
Speaker
I teach you how to avoid the mistakes I made and bring in the top solar dogs of the industry to let you in on the secrets of generating more leads, falling up like a pro, and closing more deals.

Defining a Solarpreneur

00:00:31
Speaker
What is a Solarpreneur you might ask?
00:00:33
Speaker
A Solarpreneur is a new breed of Solar Pro that is willing to do whatever it takes to achieve mastery and you are about to become one.
00:00:42
Speaker
three ways to push past your limits, and a whole lot of other stuff coming up here on today's podcast.

Closing Deals and Generating Leads

00:00:49
Speaker
Welcome to the Solarpreneur Podcast.
00:00:50
Speaker
My name is Taylor Armstrong.
00:00:52
Speaker
We are here to help you close more deals, generate more leads and referrals, and hopefully have a much better time in the solar industry.
00:00:59
Speaker
Hope you're doing well.
00:01:01
Speaker
I just got back from Vegas.
00:01:02
Speaker
Myself was on a little retreat with our friends over at Pi Syndicate.
00:01:08
Speaker
So shout out to them.
00:01:09
Speaker
Hopefully by now you've heard about them.
00:01:11
Speaker
but they are, in my opinion, the best source to multiply your money, not only with saving you thousands on taxes, but also helping you invest that money.
00:01:22
Speaker
So I did a whole lot of great stuff with them.
00:01:24
Speaker
If you're interested in getting in their program and seeing your money double, then hit me up or hit them up.
00:01:31
Speaker
But we are excited that they're sponsoring the podcast, helping us out a lot here at Grow the Soul Entrepreneur Podcast.
00:01:39
Speaker
So today we're going to be talking about...

Evolution of Solar Sales Standards

00:01:41
Speaker
a couple different things and the reason why we chose this topic on pushing past your limits I've been just having my eyes opened more and more about things that I before thought were like incredible are just being surpassed over and over and over for example it used to be when I got in the industry that if you were closing one or two deals a week you were like wow that's awesome great week man
00:02:07
Speaker
If you get two deals a week, you're making six figures.
00:02:11
Speaker
That's incredible money.
00:02:12
Speaker
And that was kind of like the standard that we needed to hit back then.
00:02:16
Speaker
And if anyone, you know, is seeing some of the numbers that people are putting up these days, it's pretty incredible, especially as you know, we have people posting more on social media as we have guys that are doing incredible things coming on the podcast.
00:02:30
Speaker
It's just now two deals.
00:02:33
Speaker
I mean, it's not that great anymore, right?
00:02:34
Speaker
There's guys on my team here in California.
00:02:38
Speaker
They're literally doing 15 deals a week pretty consistently.
00:02:43
Speaker
And it's just all these things.
00:02:44
Speaker
It's just just blowing past my mind where before I thought these things were great.
00:02:48
Speaker
Now it's like, okay, they're not as good as I thought.
00:02:51
Speaker
Right.
00:02:52
Speaker
Yeah.

Breaking Limits with Roger Bannister Analogy

00:02:53
Speaker
And so that's part of the purpose of this show is discovering those people and really just figuring out what's that new four minute mile.
00:03:01
Speaker
A lot of you have heard that story about the four minute mile.
00:03:04
Speaker
Everyone thought it was impossible, right?
00:03:06
Speaker
But then when someone went and broke that four minute mile mark,
00:03:11
Speaker
I think it was Roger Bannister, I think was the guy's name.
00:03:15
Speaker
Once he set that record, there was like 10 people the next year or whatever that went and did that.
00:03:22
Speaker
So that's what I think is so cool about this industry and just being able to talk to awesome people is all these things, all these barriers that we set in our minds.
00:03:30
Speaker
If we can see someone else do it, then we know it's not impossible.

Methods to Overcome Limits

00:03:35
Speaker
Okay.
00:03:36
Speaker
And so three ways, three things that you can do to kind of break past these limitations.
00:03:43
Speaker
And that's kind of has to do with one of them is just hearing other people smash their limits.
00:03:49
Speaker
And just a little preface to this as well.
00:03:52
Speaker
We have someone that pushed past some pretty incredible limits himself coming on the podcast for the next episode.
00:03:59
Speaker
His name is Brandon Forrester.
00:04:02
Speaker
He's been doing some awesome stuff, has a pretty crazy story about how he knocked for eight hours on an Easter Sunday in Utah.
00:04:10
Speaker
I don't know anyone that's done that before, especially in a very religious state like Utah on an Easter Sunday.
00:04:18
Speaker
So you're going to hear about him and that kind of triggered the idea for this show is he has pushed past so many limits.
00:04:23
Speaker
Like we need to dive more into this.
00:04:26
Speaker
So let's jump into it.
00:04:27
Speaker
The first way you can push past your limitations is this.
00:04:34
Speaker
Number one, just surround yourself with greatness.
00:04:36
Speaker
Okay.
00:04:37
Speaker
To the point I just mentioned, as I've been surrounded by more and more greatness, as I've seen people set new records, it's just helped me up-level myself.
00:04:47
Speaker
The idea of what I thought was possible or what I thought was great, now is something completely different in my head.
00:04:56
Speaker
So I mentioned there's a couple guys on my team doing 10 to 15 deals a week consistently.
00:05:02
Speaker
The other way to do this is let's say you're at a company that maybe you're not, maybe they're not doing so much volume.
00:05:08
Speaker
Maybe there's laser people on your team.
00:05:12
Speaker
Maybe you're in one of those situations like I was where two deals a week was kind of like the high mark you could hit.
00:05:17
Speaker
You'd be doing awesome.
00:05:20
Speaker
Well, do go join a, you know, training group.
00:05:25
Speaker
a mastermind group.
00:05:26
Speaker
That's part of why I go to all these programs, these events is you see what's possible.
00:05:33
Speaker
And so Brandon, that's coming on the show next podcast, he talked about how the knockstar program helped him out a ton.
00:05:40
Speaker
So you can go join a group like knockstar.
00:05:42
Speaker
You can join our soul society program where we have other high level people in there.
00:05:47
Speaker
And these things, they're just going to realize that you can be doing all better.
00:05:51
Speaker
And especially if you are a competitive person, you want to be number one, right?
00:05:56
Speaker
You want to push past and be the best.
00:05:59
Speaker
So especially if you're not having a ton of competition in your current situation, then join one of these groups, these programs, and surround yourself with some greatness.

Growth Through Discomfort

00:06:09
Speaker
So that's the first key.
00:06:10
Speaker
That is way number one to push past some limitations.
00:06:14
Speaker
Hey, the second thing is accept discomfort.
00:06:19
Speaker
Anyone that's done anything incredible in this world, they've gone through insane amounts of discomfort.
00:06:26
Speaker
Right.
00:06:26
Speaker
The person that comes to my head is Iron Cowboy.
00:06:29
Speaker
If you haven't heard his story, go watch.
00:06:31
Speaker
I think his documentary is still on Netflix.
00:06:34
Speaker
But James Lawrence, Iron Cowboy, probably heard of him, but he's the guy that did 100 Ironmans in 100 days.
00:06:40
Speaker
Actually, I think it was 101.
00:06:42
Speaker
He did one more to top it off.
00:06:45
Speaker
And can you imagine the amount of discomfort he had?
00:06:49
Speaker
Anyone that's doing anything great is having some pretty huge discomfort.
00:06:54
Speaker
And so we're not doing anything on that level.
00:06:57
Speaker
All we're doing is out there is, you know, making cold calls, knocking on doors, closing deals.
00:07:02
Speaker
So sometimes there's discomfort, obviously, knocking doors, there's some discomfort in that.
00:07:08
Speaker
But what are ways that you can create more discomfort for yourself?
00:07:13
Speaker
That's a question that I would challenge you to ask yourself.
00:07:17
Speaker
How are you creating discomfort in your daily life?
00:07:20
Speaker
Okay, hopefully you're out there knocking doors, grinding, but think how else can you make, how else can you create that discomfort?
00:07:27
Speaker
So a lot of people do, you know, the cold plunges, the cold showers.
00:07:31
Speaker
That's something I'd highly recommend because I know there's health benefits to it as well.
00:07:36
Speaker
But for me, taking the cold showers is just all about creating the discomfort.
00:07:42
Speaker
more than any health benefit or anything because i know if i can just constantly have something i've been doing a little uncomfortable then next time i'm not feeling like knocking doors next time i'm not feeling like doing that next hard thing i can draw on those experiences say hey i pushed myself past this limit why can't i do it again so that's a great way i'm trying something new
00:08:06
Speaker
You can, I don't know, go join a public speaking.
00:08:08
Speaker
I've talked about in the show before how I did Toastmasters in the past.
00:08:13
Speaker
Improv comedy.
00:08:15
Speaker
You can go try some new, you know, I'm doing jujitsu classes.
00:08:20
Speaker
You can go to join a group.
00:08:22
Speaker
I don't know.
00:08:22
Speaker
There's a million ways you can push yourself through some limitations and experience that discomfort.
00:08:28
Speaker
For me, something I recognize that I don't do very often is just talking to someone new.
00:08:33
Speaker
I am naturally an introvert.
00:08:35
Speaker
So I don't like talking to new people that often.
00:08:37
Speaker
Okay.
00:08:39
Speaker
You know, I got to go knock doors and I count that as my talking to new people.
00:08:44
Speaker
But what about like when next time you're on an airplane or at the grocery store or whatever, that's something that I am terrible with that I realized as it's coming up with these topics, I got to do more of that.
00:08:56
Speaker
So that's the second step.
00:08:57
Speaker
That's the second way is figure out what you can do to just create uncomfortable situations, except

Always Do One More

00:09:03
Speaker
the discomfort.
00:09:03
Speaker
Okay.
00:09:04
Speaker
And the third and final one is always do one more.
00:09:08
Speaker
And this comes from my man, Ed Milet.
00:09:11
Speaker
Hopefully you all have listened to Ed Milet as the best podcast.
00:09:15
Speaker
Well, second best podcast behind Solar Printer podcast, even though he gets a
00:09:20
Speaker
You know, tens of thousands more viewers and all that I do, but he's still second best.
00:09:25
Speaker
But Ed Milet, he's one of my favorite entrepreneurs, favorite speakers out there right now.
00:09:31
Speaker
Incredible speaker.
00:09:33
Speaker
And his whole topic, the times I've heard him speak, I've heard him speak twice now, I think.
00:09:38
Speaker
And a major theme of what he talks about is just doing one more of something.
00:09:42
Speaker
What does he mean by that?
00:09:43
Speaker
It's just going along with the discomfort, right?
00:09:46
Speaker
Doing one more of something that maybe you didn't like.
00:09:49
Speaker
That's how you're going to achieve success in what you're doing.
00:09:51
Speaker
That's how you're going to have breakthroughs.
00:09:53
Speaker
The story he tells is his dad was an alcoholic.
00:09:58
Speaker
And he goes years and years and years being an alcoholic, couldn't stop drinking,
00:10:03
Speaker
And finally, he decided he was going to, I mean, he'd done some stuff before, I think he'd gone to AA meetings and, you know, done some little things here and there, but just never had broken through.
00:10:16
Speaker
And then what he finally did, he's like, you know what?
00:10:20
Speaker
When all hope was lost, he says, I'm going to try it one more time to get sober.
00:10:24
Speaker
And he got sober.
00:10:26
Speaker
But if his dad wouldn't have tried to get sober one more time, then he might have been an alcoholic his whole life.
00:10:33
Speaker
So anything you do, it can probably be improved or solved by doing something one more time.
00:10:39
Speaker
So in our sales lives, how can we do one more of something?
00:10:44
Speaker
Maybe it's knocking that one more door.
00:10:47
Speaker
Maybe it's eight o'clock, it's dark, it's 8.30.
00:10:50
Speaker
Maybe it's knocking one more door than you plan to.
00:10:54
Speaker
Maybe you're at the gym.
00:10:56
Speaker
Maybe you're doing one more minute of cardio than you plan to.
00:11:00
Speaker
So I would challenge you, whatever you're doing, whatever you're trying to become great at, do one more of it.
00:11:06
Speaker
Do a little bit more than you thought what was possible or you thought what was necessary.
00:11:11
Speaker
And that's how you're going to make the breakthroughs.
00:11:14
Speaker
I remember my buddy that was really good at wrestling in high school.
00:11:19
Speaker
We would go through the practice, do our thing, sweat like crazy.
00:11:24
Speaker
But my buddy, he was, you know, better than all of us.
00:11:29
Speaker
The way he got better is he did one more practice session after we were done.
00:11:36
Speaker
And that's how he kind of, you know, improved his learning curve.
00:11:42
Speaker
And for you, if you're trying to be the best, maybe it's knocking one more door.
00:11:46
Speaker
Maybe it's training 10 more minutes than you thought.
00:11:50
Speaker
Just push yourself to do one more of something.
00:11:54
Speaker
Be a little bit better.
00:11:56
Speaker
So those three things, those are going to help you push past some limitations.
00:12:00
Speaker
Again, surround yourself with greatness was the first one.
00:12:02
Speaker
Number two, accept the discomfort.
00:12:05
Speaker
Think of things you can do that'll make you uncomfortable.
00:12:08
Speaker
And number three, just do one more.
00:12:10
Speaker
Always do one more.
00:12:10
Speaker
And speaking of one more, Ed Milat, he has his book.
00:12:14
Speaker
I think it's actually called that, One More.
00:12:16
Speaker
Probably pull it up here.
00:12:20
Speaker
But his book is coming out, I believe, the 1st of June at the time of this recording.
00:12:27
Speaker
And so it's called The Power of One More.
00:12:29
Speaker
You can go get that on Amazon.
00:12:31
Speaker
I plan to.
00:12:31
Speaker
It's going to be an awesome book.
00:12:34
Speaker
So hopefully that helped.
00:12:36
Speaker
Go do those things, push past your limitations.

Brandon Forrester's Upcoming Story

00:12:39
Speaker
And remember, success is just right around the corner as long as you're willing to do the things that other people are not willing to do.
00:12:47
Speaker
Hope that helps.
00:12:48
Speaker
Don't forget to come on to the next episode because you're going to hear Brandon Forrester and how he managed to knock eight hours a day
00:12:56
Speaker
on an Easter Sunday in Utah, people going nuts, telling them to, you know, get off their porches because it's Easter Sunday, telling them to go home.
00:13:06
Speaker
You won't want to miss the story.
00:13:07
Speaker
It's pretty incredible.
00:13:08
Speaker
So can't wait for you to hear it and go crush it this week.
00:13:12
Speaker
Peace.
