Nashville as a Major Event Host

00:02:33
Speaker
I am your host, Omar.
00:02:35
Speaker
The professor Fonseca before I forget, the sports professor, the street professor, the professor, whatever you want to call me, we are about to kick this bad boy off. My friend, welcome in. And again, let's talk sports. First of all, I wanted to get your opinion in on this. I asked you before the show started.
00:02:54
Speaker
Nashville, baby. Yes, they got the new stadium opening up in 2027 next year for the new Titans season. And then in 2028, they will follow it up with WrestleMania. I am super excited, but even more exciting because I've never been to one. The Super Bowl announced for four years from now. now So the Raiders Even your Falcons could have a chance of being in that Super Bowl if we get good enough over the next few years. How do you feel about a city such as Nashville?
00:03:34
Speaker
There have been some complaints. let Look, I'm biased. I live here. I spend all my time pretty much here in Nashville. I love this city. It is my second home to D.C.
00:03:46
Speaker
But... There's been a lot of complaints about is the city big enough to hold that many people? Is the stadium big enough to hold such an event, even though it is still 60,000 people? I get their concerns. Also, will the town you know't be able to i handle that many that many tourists at one time? So what do you think about Nashville hosting WrestleMania, the Super Bowl, everything with this new stadium that they got?
00:04:11
Speaker
right, man. So when we look at the whole WrestleMania piece, man, um it's been confirmed and I think they have $3.5 million dollars budget that they're looking to do the WrestleMania there. But then the Super Bowl, man, they're building that they're building that new stadium there. that um I guess it's called ah Nissan, Nissan Stadium, correct? Nissan Stadium is what it's called, yeah. Man, so the last major event that was held in Nashville was the 2019 draft, correct?
00:04:37
Speaker
It was 2023, I believe. was just a couple years ago. It was a couple years ago. So my thing with Nashville, man, I mean, it's major tourism, restaurants, entertainment, big venues, different things like that. I think one of my major concerns would be Security. Security would be a big concern with that.
00:04:56
Speaker
It's a large amount of people and also professor. i mean um I don't know Nashville like that. i only live went to Nashville a few times when I was stationed at Fort Campbell, man. You got to come and visit. Let's get it. Yes. Straight down ah Interstate 24. I believe that's what it is. I-24 take you all the way to the Gaylord Opry and all that. Oh, yes, sir. You know, you already know. it My thing, bro, is having security because I went to the Super Bowl when it was held in Atlanta. It was crazy.
00:05:23
Speaker
In 2019, it was in Atlanta. I didn't go to the game per se, but I went to a lot of the events and all the stuff that happened when the Patriots played the Rams. So Super Bowl is really, really large. And you have all the fan bases that come in. A lot people come to the, the, um,
00:05:37
Speaker
the shows, the concerts, the you know different different events and different things that go on. But my biggest concern for a city like Nashville would be security. And how do you kind of... Atlanta was different because you had some of the big major hotels downtown. So they were able to house the Patriots at one hotel, house the Rams at another hotel. My concern would be the hotel space and security and different things like that. But I think Nashville is great place because when you bring an event like the WrestleMania, which WrestleMania never been there, right?
00:06:05
Speaker
No, no, this needs to be a first for all this because they got the new indoor stadium now. Yeah, yeah. so with ah with an event that caliber in the stadium opens in 2027, right? Yes, yes, 2027. Man, you trying to generate revenue. you're trying to generate revenue to pay that stadium off.
00:06:22
Speaker
So I think it's major. that My only concerns would be security and the influx of people, man. and And the thing about a Super Bowl is, man, you got to, I took like a week, a week off when I went, when I went to Atlanta, because man, bro, there's something going on.
00:06:38
Speaker
The city never sleeps. movement I mean, you'll bump shoulders with all kinds of people and all kinds of things. I think it's going to be major, man. it ought Well, Super Bowl period is a great event, but it all depends on who plays tonight. Right. yeah Yeah, of course. The teams that are in it. the But also, and the city does matter, but as you mentioned, mom those are those are you know legitimate concerns that people are bringing up. um You know, it's not L.A., so...
00:07:14
Speaker
You know, it's not Atlanta. It's not necessarily these bigger major cities. National so is a little smaller than those, but it is still big enough. And I do think that we still have enough...
00:07:32
Speaker
ah hotel space because absolutely yeah they have been building up a lot of hotels um and they have been beefing up security as well so i think that they are you know preparing for those things they are making those things better but you are right when you say that um you know you're not going to necessarily it's not as big as these other cities so they're putting a lot of people in a in a smaller ah you know and he and And here's another concern, man. I don't know how, I don't, what's y'all's airport? BTA?
00:08:03
Speaker
BNA. Yeah, BNA. I don't even know how big, I mean, is Nashville the biggest airport or Knoxville? Yeah, no, Nashville's definitely going to be the biggest airport here in the area. And yes, it's not an international airport, but I think it could handle enough of it. I think it could. I think it could. think it could. So I'm excited. I'm excited.
00:08:23
Speaker
Not cut you off, but let let me carry out this note here, man. The biggest thing is that you have time to plan. You got time, businesses got time to plan, they got time to work on infrastructure development. And I mean, i mean everybody can eat, man. It's like a melting pot.
00:08:41
Speaker
It's like a smorgasbord. i mean, you know big words, smorgasbord. Smorgasbord. Bro, it's playing for everybody, dawg. It's plenty. go Let's go. play everybody out there, man.
00:08:52
Speaker
And there's plenty for all you fans watching. Shout out to Arromelta. We appreciate it. You're cool as well. And shout out to Manny Powers, H64. Appreciate y'all. Hello to you, y'all. Thank you for watching. Hit that like button. Yeah, no, I hear you. It is something that needs to be taken into consideration, but they also have multiple years to get ready. To play. Now, I'm going to tell you theses one of the worst Super Bowls Man, it had to have been maybe 10 or mid 2000s, mid 2000s, early 2000s when they had the Super Bowl at MetLife.
00:09:27
Speaker
I think that it was cold, it it was bad. And I think they deviated from having it at a place like MetLife to now where they go to a SoFi or they go to a Miami or they they they're gonna go to a dome.
00:09:40
Speaker
Even they had in Minnesota a couple of years ago, freezing cold and snow. but it didn't take away from the atmosphere and the environment because you had it in a place where it could thrive and grow. You don't just, like I said, after MetLife, it kind of just, but now they go to places where pomp and circumstance appears and it can do well, man.
00:10:00
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, no doubt about it. I'm excited. I think it'll do good. But you are right about one thing that you said, and that is that when they had that Super Bowl in the cold or when they had those Super Bowls in the cold, they realized that people didn't want to be it in the cold at the Super Bowl. right That's why they started moving to these.
00:10:19
Speaker
solo world ah warm weather locations and then on top of that now even more than just having a warm weather location now you can be anywhere as long as you have that dome right and you have to have some sort of ah ah you know area built up around it as well you have to have a hub a city that is a party city a New Orleans a Nashville an Atlanta what's the name would be a premier place to have a Super Bowl But they keep passing over Charlotte, the Bank of America, Carolina Panthers.
00:10:52
Speaker
they over They pass it over every year, year after year, because their facilities are horrible. Charlotte's a big city. think it's an international airport, too. But it's also that it's an outdoor stadium, too.
00:11:05
Speaker
And it's cold in February in Charlotte. So yeah they don't want to play there. You know what I mean? Well, anyways. OK, cool. I just wanted to get your thoughts on that. Let's keep it moving. NBA Playoffs.
00:11:17
Speaker
All right. First, I need to, before we even get to that, I want to get your opinion because I have not got your opinion on this yet on this show. i heard i heard it on i heard you before talk about it. But Shea Gilgis-Alexander, SGA, was voted MVP over Nikola Jokic this past season. as you You can see the stats up there on your screen.
00:11:40
Speaker
um Obviously, Jokic as a big man, the first center to ever lead the league in assists and rebounds per game. But Shea Gilgis-Alexander did have a historic historically efficient regular season, at least. Not so much in the playoffs thus far, but during the regular season.
00:12:00
Speaker
And Jokic, There was also the kind of he got cut screwed a couple of years ago by Jokic. So maybe we should give it to him this kind of route. You know how the voters have that plus the voter fatigue possibly for Jokic. So many things could have played into the minds of the voters. What say you do you are? Do you agree? Do you think they were right with ST over Jokic?
00:12:23
Speaker
So I look at a bunch of different different factors when you look at a player and different things Of course, his 31.4 points per game, 5.5 rebounds per game, 6.1 assists.
00:12:34
Speaker
His numbers look good. But Yoke is triple-double. Here's the thing, Flo. My bad, my bad. You're good. You're good, man. I know. i um When you look at the Oklahoma City Thunder, 64-18, man, they had a hell of run, a hell of a record.
00:12:51
Speaker
You may not like this and flow and hot rod. They didn't take well to this. I said the NBA has gotten accustomed to giving foreigners, foreigners that show up to play in their numbers and their stats align.
00:13:05
Speaker
They have won the MVP. The last American ball player that won the MVP, I believe was James Harden. Really? I believe the last American MVP was James Harden.
00:13:20
Speaker
LeBron hasn't won one since James Harden won? I'll look it up. Yeah, look that up. Well, while you're looking it up, though, um so were you okay with that, though? Were you okay with the choice of SGA over Jokic?
00:13:35
Speaker
I'll look at the NBA. I think they look at the full player, and they look at the player and everybody surrounding him, they look at the team stats, too. And Denver continues to croak and choke when it comes time to to really do it.
00:13:50
Speaker
That's what I think, man. Okay. right. And just to ah let just to check in on your thing that you said, you are completely correct. Yeah. 17-18 season when he played for the Rockets.
00:14:05
Speaker
Yeah. Wow. that i mean No, no, no. He played for the Thunder. He played for the Thunder. That's when... Or did he get traded to the Rockets? He got traded to the Rockets. No, you're right. He did play for the Rockets that year. That's what I'm telling you. like My thing is, he's the... in And I don't like Big Perk because Big Perk make crazy takes and he talks crazy. Hey, whoa, whoa, whoa. Don't be talking about my man like... whoa But listen, listen.
00:14:28
Speaker
He made a valid point about players in the NBA with the MVP. The American guys are... They're not valued as much anymore.
00:14:39
Speaker
Or they're not producing... Like a Shea Gildress or SGA Shea Gildress Alexander or like Jokic. I mean, ah honestly, I mean, I'm looking at the list of and MVPs and other than, you know, a LeBron or a Kevin Durant, you know, yeah Steph Curry.
00:14:59
Speaker
None of these players have really been, like you said, playing better. than the foreign players. Because you look at the list after that, you had Giannis won back-to-back, well-deserved.
00:15:11
Speaker
You had Jokic won back-to-back, well-deserved. You had Yoel Embiid win one. He really deserved it that season. You had Jokic win it again, and you could have gave it to him or SGA that season. And now SGA back-to-back.
00:15:23
Speaker
So I completely agree with the list. I completely agree that when you're looking at it, the American-born players have not played as well as the foreign-born players in the NBA this past year. So I completely agree with that. That is a fantastic point on your end, Canteen. But one thing I will say is you will not.
00:15:44
Speaker
Come on, this program here, the professor's seminal mente and besmirch the tremendous name of Kendrick Liddell Perkins. All right, don't you dare disrespect my man like that. All right, now we're going to keep it moving, though. NBA playoffs, what you think of the playoffs thus far? Look, the Knicks, as you can see, everybody on your screen,
00:16:12
Speaker
They just swept the hell out of two opponents in a row. They won what, nine straight? Eleven straight. Eleven straight wins. And this is your sports professor's stat for the Knicks in those 11 games. The Knicks are 11-0, and they have an average margin of victory of 23.8 points. They are blowing these Fools the heck out by almost 24 points a game in the last 11. First of all, what do you got to say about the Knicks? That's crazy.
00:16:46
Speaker
All right, man. So what you're saying, the Knicks have won what, 23? You said 23 straight? No, 11 straight. 11 straight by an average of almost 24 points a game. 24 points. All right. They swept the Cavs. Swept the โ€“ No, no, no. They didn't. The Cavs won. Remember, they won one, then Cavs came back and won two. And then ever since then, they have not lost. They haven't won. Okay.
00:17:09
Speaker
My thing is, man, you had Jalen Brunson, Carl Anthony Towns. You had Kelbridge. These guys have stepped up. Yes. But here but here's here's here's ah here's a huge fact.
00:17:20
Speaker
The New York Knicks have not went to the finals in 27 years. Last time New York Knicks went to the finals was... Talk to him. Talk to him. No, no, it's not not bad, though. It's not bad because you had Allen Houston.
00:17:31
Speaker
You had Patrick Ewing. I love Allen Houston. Old Patrick Ewing. don't know if they had Charlie... um He's a crazy guy. Charlie... Charlie Ward? Are you talking Charlie Ward? Is that 99? What are you talking about?
00:17:44
Speaker
you talking about Charlie. Anyways, continue what you're It don't matter. what My thing is this, man. These guys have, um they've produced, they've done well, man. and And here's my take on the Knicks.
00:17:56
Speaker
If the Knicks don't win now, when will they win? And i don't think they'll have the propensity or firepower to come back and do it next year. o all All the cards on the table. Now, when we get to the other matchup, I can tell you why I feel the way I feel about the Knicks. But like I said, Brunson, Carl Anthony Towns, those guys, they've really, really stepped up. And then,
00:18:15
Speaker
Right now, Brunson is in the top five all-time of the Knicks. The number one guy, Bernard King. got to give Bernard King his props. I'll take that. Bernard King. Patrick Ewing. Yeah, you got to have that. Ewing's in there. You got to Carmelo, right?
00:18:33
Speaker
Carmelo would fall in there, too. That's three. I'm thinking about this. old is it The old head. Frazier? but Walt Frazier. Walt Frazier. Walt Frazier could be in there. And then it's one more.
00:18:44
Speaker
Who else? You could put, I mean, maybe John Starks. I'm not a Knicks fan, so I don't know all their players. Maybe Knicks. Willis Reed. Willis Reed with that comeback he had when he won the, wasn't that the last time they won the championship in 73, right? 73. Wasn't that Willis Reed? I'm about to pull it up now and double check. think that might have been Willis Reed time. I'm not sure. I hate the Knicks. but Don't blame me. Willis Reed played because he was, Willis Reed was the MVP in 1970.
00:19:08
Speaker
Walt Frazier won the championship in 70 and 73. Okay, there you go. All right. Then you had Ewing and you had Starks, and the guy i was talking about was Charles Oakley. He was a great defender. Oh, yeah, Charles Oakley. Oh, that's right. Yes. Oh, and then I forgot one more.
00:19:23
Speaker
Who's that? He spit on P.J. Carlissimo, Latrell Sprewell. Remember that? Oh, Latrell. Yeah, but he wasn't that great with the Knicks. He was all right. He was so-so. He was all right. Yeah. he he was like he was He was up there a little bit behind Allen Houston probably.
00:19:37
Speaker
But he ain't a Carmelo or he not a Mari Stoudemire. He ain't on those guys. Nah, nah. I wouldn't even put a Mari Stoudemire in the top five, to be honest. What? Not in top five, top ten, sure. Probably top ten. I got you. i mean, I don't know. Again, I hate the Knicks, so I would have to look. net i think I think the people we mentioned already, those older heads, were some of the best players the Knicks have ever had. Now, does Brunson belong?
00:19:57
Speaker
Oh, yeah. I mean... I would put him at least number five, probably. I wouldn't put him any higher than that. But I think he's in the top five. bo Well, you know, just because of the short duration, maybe not now that I'm thinking about it.
00:20:11
Speaker
ah But, I mean, now that I'm looking at all the players we mentioned, other than Patrick Ewing right and John Starks, a lot of those players were only with the Knicks for three, five, period of time yeah seven years. Like, they weren't there their whole career.
00:20:25
Speaker
So Patrick Ewing was there his whole whole damn career. And the thing that hurt me about Patrick Ewing, man, I go back to 19, I think it was 92, May of 92 when, when Scottie Pippen dunked over him, man, and they could never, ever, the Knicks could never get over that hurdle, man.
00:20:43
Speaker
Yeah. yeah one yeah and yeah And you know what? It makes me happy every day to see the Knicks fans. Beautiful, salty, and sweet tears that I can taste. And I can't wait until they take their ass to the next round and get swept.
00:20:59
Speaker
by either the Thunder or to spurs cause the because the Knicks is some booty juice. The Knicks is some booty juice. And you're lucky my Celtics choked because we would have whooped that ass.
00:21:12
Speaker
Anyways, Canteen, talk to me about the Western Conference. We have an amazing series going on. yeah Three games to two. Oklahoma City winning last night. SGA did not shoot well, but still scored somehow 40 points. And they won the game. ah But he has not been playing as well as the MVP should in the playoffs.
00:21:31
Speaker
And Wemby is truly an alien, my friend. He is truly something to behold. Something we have never seen before. What do you think about this Western Conference? All right, man. When we look at the Western Conference right now, I mean, OKC,
00:21:47
Speaker
they won and no spurs won game one overtime 122. yes what a game that was wow what a game thunder one game two one two one twenty two one thirteen the game the thunder one game three one twenty three one oh eight yes the spurs one four one oh three eighty two and then we saw the game which was last night one twenty seven one fourteen yes um the biggest thing the biggest thing uh about this whole this whole series man is that the Thunder they swept Phoenix right mm-hmm they s swept the Lakers to the name yeah nope no no I think the Lakers were one didn't they think ladies may won one or two yeah I think it was I think they won in five I think it was five well I could be wrong whatever I hate to say gives out dinner has played played really good at least 28 points a game Chet Holmgren
00:22:37
Speaker
He's been ah so so. he'llpi They both could have been better though. They both could be better, right? But then you got a strong bench with Caruso and. um Yes, Caruso has been playing amazingly this postseason. Him and ah McCain, they have they have really, really played.
00:22:54
Speaker
Now when we go over to the Spurs, man, the Spurs. who i'm really win but and They've done really well as well, man. um They on the table. Tell me what you think about Wemby, baby. He's balling, man.
00:23:07
Speaker
I mean, I gotta give the guys props. But let me say this. The Spurs beat Portland, then they beat Minnesota. All right. Wimby, 23 points per game, 11 rebounds.
00:23:18
Speaker
He's killing them on defense. There's nobody that can match up against Wimby. De'Aaron Fox, I mean, he's scoring. He's a good playmaker. But Castle. Oh, Castle's a great young player. I like him. The only thing I don't like about Castle is he's a little bit too... ah I don't want to say emotional, but maybe he takes things a little too personally on the court. Because there were a couple of times he got fouled and the fouls did not look bad at all. But he got up like he was about to fight somebody. And it's like, bro, you're in the conference finals.
00:23:51
Speaker
i know I know you want to play hard and you want to be respected. But at the same time, I mean, basketball is a sport where you're going to get fouled and you can't get mad but every time somebody foul you. Here's the thing. Wimby.
00:24:04
Speaker
ah ah Both teams have played really, really good. My only problem with San Antonio is you cannot let the OKC bench outscore you. you you can't you can't You can't let them beat you up and down the floor, play solid offense and defense, and then they end up they end up beating you. Their bench put up more points.
00:24:27
Speaker
than your other guys. That's a problem. That's a problem. So i you want me to give get my projection on this series of what I think is going happen? Yes. Who do you think is going to win this series, bro? All right. Man, I got to go with my gut.
00:24:40
Speaker
And I hate to do this, man. It's going to go seven games. I think they're going to go. I want it to end tomorrow night, Thursday night. But OKC is not going play play as well. They don't play where they play well in front their home crowd.
00:24:57
Speaker
okay That's when they show So I think they'll take them down to the wire tomorrow. But I think they'll have a field day on Saturday. My projection for the NBA finals will be the New York Knicks and OKC Thunder.
00:25:14
Speaker
All right. And you know you can't leave without giving us your pick for the finals. Who is going win between the Thunder and the Knicks?
00:25:25
Speaker
If the Knicks, the Knicks, it's been 27 years. i think long and I think in order for Brunson to be a prominent, to be that face of that organization, to be the face, he has all the right pieces.
00:25:42
Speaker
And, man, I think it's hard to go in Madison Square Garden and win. But the thing that I like about the Knicks, their coach, Mike Brown. Mike Brown, a good coach. Mike Brown got a a lot of folks don't like to hear this.
00:25:55
Speaker
Mike Brown was the glue that held Golden State together and Steve Kerr came in. Hey. I know I'm right. Nobody can take that from me on that tape.
00:26:07
Speaker
I think the Knicks have a better shot at winning a championship playing OKC. Okay. And I think OKC gonna win in seven.
00:26:21
Speaker
And you think, okay, so he wins in seven. Okay. So you agree you agree with me. um By the way, you would like to know that at the beginning of the year in the NBA season preview, I picked the Thunder over the Knicks at the beginning of the season. So if they hit, you know your boy going to be getting all them props for calling that bad boy. Man, I mean, it's โ€“ the Knicks got โ€“ they got that killer instinct, man.
00:26:46
Speaker
i but I do think that they are. so let me say this about the Knicks. As much as I hate the Knicks, being a Celtics fan, I did pick them before the season to go to the finals. I did pick them to lose. But the reason I picked them to go to the finals is the exact same thing you said.
00:27:02
Speaker
I said last year at the end of the season, in the season review, when they traded for Mike Brown, I said this is the exact move that the Knicks needed to do to put the the Knicks over the top into the finals. They got the team. Now they need the coach. Thibodeau's a great coach, but he runs your players into the ground. You need a coach with better NBA finals experience. Mm-hmm. bring Mike Brown in, that's why I picked him to go to the finals. I think he is a great coach, like you said. I think they even take the Thunder or the Spurs to six, possibly seven games. but will They win.
00:27:39
Speaker
Probably not. No, I don't think they're going win. I think the Knicks going lose to either one of them, whether it's OKC or San Antonio. I think the Knicks are done. and i And it might be because I hate the Knicks a lot, and it might be because I want to see all the Knicks fans crying because they're the worst delusional fans in the world. You know they talk about Cowboys fans being the worst? Nah, nah. It's Knicks fans, man. Knicks fans are the worst delusional fans. Led by Spike Lee. Led by Ted Joe Polkaz. They wouldn't even let you in Cleveland's arena. I'm glad you got booted.
00:28:13
Speaker
I'm just joking. fine you know But no, man, Spike Lee crazy. I mean, like you got some, like I said, man, and the thing that I have a lot of respect about the Knicks, man, you got Walt Frazier, Allen Houston, Starks, Ewing, Latrell Sprewell, Charles Oakley, all all all all those old heads, man.
00:28:36
Speaker
They've been there and they've been there like supporting these guys and they've been like the glue that's on them together, man. and I think I hope and pray that Mike Brown wins the championship, then he'll be able to make a stand for himself man. Because like I said, I'll never ever forgive Golden State for firing the guy man. The guy had the same- Mark Jackson. Yeah, Mark Jackson. Mark Jackson, you correct me right.
00:28:59
Speaker
Man, Mark Jackson had the same players that Kurt had. One chip man. Yeah. Yeah, no, I agree. I mean, you were right about ah Mike Brown. He was there with Steve Kerr. Assistant, yes.
00:29:12
Speaker
As an assistant, yeah. But Mark Jackson was the one before ah that did take the team to the conference finals. And then they fired him and turned it over to Kerr, who then rode with another man's team to the championship.
00:29:28
Speaker
want to but You're not wrong about that. Now, to bring up, here's your sports professor stat for the NBA Conference Finals and the Knicks winning 11 straight. There have only been a handful of other teams that have won at least 11 straight in a row in the playoffs.
00:29:45
Speaker
Those include... The 1989 Lakers won 11 in a row, or sorry, yeah, won 11 in a straight, sweeping the first three rounds, and then they went, oh, sorry, the 2000, I said 1989, the 2001 Lakers, I apologize, with Shaq and Kobe, won 11 straight, swept the first three rounds, lost game one to AI in the Sixers, and then won four straight.
00:30:15
Speaker
post like The 1999 Spurs won 12th Street. They won the last two games of the first round, swept round two and the Eastern Conference Finals before winning the first two of the finals. I forget who they played in 99 there. The Knicks.
00:30:32
Speaker
the nick they That's right. It was the Knicks. That's last time the Knicks went to the finals. They played the Spurs. That's right. yeah Thank you, Ken. Ken coming up clutch today. That's why we call him the Stat 2017 Warriors won 15 straight and had a chance to sweep the whole entire playoffs before they lost game four to Cleveland, as we know, and then closed out game five. So there's your sports professor stats.
00:30:55
Speaker
For the m NBA playoffs, and yeah, again, I did pick at the beginning of the season, and I'm to pat myself on the back. Oklahoma City over the New York Knicks. Now, we'll see if it happens. Like he said, Wemby is crazy, man. Wemby is the next big thing in the NBA, bro.
00:31:11
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah, he is, man. I mean, I know I'd take Jake as happy. You know what I mean? Like I said, man, if it's going to go, you think it's going to go down to seven games between OKC and the Spurs?
00:31:23
Speaker
I do. Yes. And then who you think? who Who do you think win game seven? I think OKC is going to go to the finals. I think they have the experience of the championship team. I think the Spurs are still a little too young.
00:31:35
Speaker
um But I do think eventually they win multiple champions ah championships as well. And Amul, it's not just 89 because of Taylor Swift. Yes, i love me some Tay-Tay. That's 1989. the Lakers in did win.
00:31:52
Speaker
11 straight ah as well, but they didn't win the championship. I was only talking about teams that won the championship. The 89 team for the Lakers, they didn't win the whole thing. That's what I meant by that. But thank you for checking me. i appreciate that.
00:32:05
Speaker
Says the Spurs played the Knicks back in 99. We talked about it last night. Yep. I remember. I was just, I was, I was blanking out for a second. Thank you very much. Y'all shout out to AM 22 photography. I G I'll check out my boy. mu He was on, on the baseball. night You know, watch the baseball replay we had last night. We talked all the baseball all the time. All right, canteen. Let's keep it moving. Oh, these were the power rankings that were before the finals. You can see,
00:32:31
Speaker
That the Cavaliers were just so โ€“ they were such, like, long-shot odds. But to get swept by the Knicks like that is just โ€“ I mean, that's crazy, bro. I don't know.
00:32:42
Speaker
But anyways, you I mean, you got to put up more in a fight than than getting so than getting swept. Let's move it on to baseball canteen. um uh actually no you know what yes let's go to baseball you got the standings ready for us all right let's move it on to baseball there's your power rankings for the week no look at your look at your i'm so mad at your atlanta baseball team being the best team in baseball how do you feel about your atlanta baseball team
00:33:14
Speaker
the The biggest thing with the Braves, man, is just to keep, stay healthy, cool and stay healthy, everybody else stay healthy, but keep the momentum going, man, and get to the all-star break. And then for me, baseball really ramps up September, man.
00:33:27
Speaker
That's when you separate the men from the boys September, and then you kind of roll into the playoffs, and then you kind of get down to Halloween when you had a World Series, man. Do you feel comfortable with your Braves' lead currently?
00:33:38
Speaker
I mean, the Braves, I think they are the put best team in the best team in baseball right now. I mean, give us the standings. Talk to us. right, so let me let me start with A.O. East. As of right now, i know the numbers are the Rays are 34-18. New York Yankees 33-22. Toronto Baltimore And the Red The Central, man, i was
00:34:05
Speaker
I mean the guard is okay I got it 33 and 25 but Chicago White Sox did they revamp the organization? they Man. lord Yeah, they were horrible. We talked about that last night. as long as I've known you and club or team we talk baseball is like man the Chicago White Sox are always at the.
00:34:21
Speaker
They are. But they're 27, 27, four playing good Minnesota man? That's crazy. the royals twenty two thirty three detroit twenty one thirty four we think about detroit fall man that's crazy Yeah, yeah, they were they were in the playoffs last year. And then the Mariners 2829 the ace ace 2529 Houston Astros 2432 and then the angels are 2134.
00:34:43
Speaker
All right, east Braves 3718 Phillies 2927 Nationals 2928. thirty two and then the angels are twenty one thirty four right the east braves thirty seven eighteen philes twenty nine twenty seven nationals twenty nine twenty eight Marlins 2631 what we gonna do about your Mets bro now don't bring up the Mets. No, we I just I'm umm just you know and then the central the Brewers 3320 St. Louis Cardinals 2529 reads 2925 Pittsburgh Pirates 2926 the Cubs are doing pretty well. Yeah, they're at the bottom of their division, but
00:35:20
Speaker
The West, I mean, we knew the Dodgers are to be on top. The Diamondbacks are in two, Padres three, San Fran four, and then um the Rockies are at the bottom. But like right now, the Braves are the best team in Major League Baseball.
00:35:34
Speaker
The American leader, Tampa Bay, they're doing really, really good as you got on the stats. And then the tightest division, man, is a the AL West. That's where you got the most contention, the AL West, man. The first, second, and third team, they're at least one and a half games behind. Yeah, they're in the Central because the NL Central pretty tight there as well, all five games between them. My bad, Welders Fence. I apologize. I missed this. He said Starks.
00:36:01
Speaker
put up more shots than anyone. I don't know if that's true. ah It's possible. I don't know. It's possible. I start to look a good player for the Knicks. And have the biggest lead. eight and a half behind.
00:36:17
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. So when looking at those standings, thank you, Welder's Fence, for tuning in and everybody for tuning in. Hit that like button. We appreciate you tuning in. um When looking at those standings, though, surprisingly, again, Tampa Bay up there in the AL East, we talked about that a little bit yesterday. um The Detroit Tigers, I was wrong. They weren't in the playoffs last year, but they still played well last year. Now they've fallen off completely. um And you do look at that AL West where you got all those teams that are kind of look at the athletics even.
00:36:45
Speaker
Only two games below 500 now. Now, we talked about this last night on the baseball program. In the AL, there are only four teams that are above 500. And the Yankees, the Rays, the Guardians, and the aforementioned White Sox.
00:37:02
Speaker
yeah When you look in the NL East, there's tons of teams above 500. Actually, coincidentally, and how it should be when you look at... when Okay, so...
00:37:15
Speaker
I've been in and central the central right now. All of those teams are above 500. Everybody in L central. Yeah. So I've been an analyst my whole life, Canteen.
00:37:26
Speaker
When I went into the military, i came in as an analyst. When I started the marketing, I was a marketing analyst. I've always done data and analysis. Math has always been my favorite subject because I'm really good with numbers.
00:37:37
Speaker
So that being said, when I'm looking at this and I'm saying, OK, well, I'm seeing that there are four teams in the AL above 500 and there are only four teams in the NL below 500 and when I also look at the fact that only four teams in the AL have winning records against teams over 500 and 14 in NL only are losing records to teams above 500 what that tells me is that in the beginning two months of the season what has happened is that the American League and the National League have been playing a lot of inter-league games, and the National League has been dominating those inter-league games against the American League, american league which leads me to believe the American League and the National League is the far better, more dominating conference this year.
00:38:30
Speaker
What are your thoughts on that analysis? Man, I mean, the National League, they're running the table, man. But my biggest thing, man, is like we as we gradually move into June, man, these guys are going to, they're going to sprint.
00:38:41
Speaker
They're going to damn near sprint up until 4th of July. After of July, they're going to get a break. Then they're going to to Citizens Bank Stadium up Philadelphia. They're going to to the All-Star Game. And then they're going to go in there. And then it's after that, it's like, to me, balls to the wall. And that's when you got to really, really play and produce your good baseball. But let me...
00:38:58
Speaker
Let me caveat on one of the things you just said. Yes, please. We had somebody say said John Starks was a leading scorer for the Knicks. No, no, no. He said he took the most shots. I don't know if that's accurate or not. I was going to say Ewan was the leading scorer.
00:39:11
Speaker
No, he said he took the most shots. Oh, the most shots. Okay. Yeah, that could be true. It could have just been him trolling. I'm not sure. But what I do know is Starks is still one of the best Knicks ever that we do.
00:39:22
Speaker
Yeah. um Now, looking at baseball, though, I do want to say you better hold on, Canteen, because those Philadelphia Phillies have won six series in a row.
00:39:35
Speaker
And โ€“ hey, they're only eight and a half back of your it been a baseball team. So don't let them come back on your team now.
00:39:46
Speaker
Don't let them come back on your team now. and And that's not major, man. I think eight and a half games is not major, man. You just got to stay ahead of the game and just keep pushing, keep winning, you know. All right, cool. Well, let's move it on to NHL. We got to give them a little NHL update, baby.
00:40:01
Speaker
So the NHL playoffs, look, the Vegas Golden Knights swept the Colorado Avalanche. Why is that crazy? Because the Colorado Avalanche were the number one best team in the NHL all season long.
00:40:19
Speaker
only to get swept out in the Western Conference Finals. And then you look in the East. Tonight, we have an important game going on. Carolina is up two to one Montreal needs this game badly. We will see what happens. Canteen, I know you don't watch hockey a lot, but you have any thoughts on maybe the Vegas Golden Knights sweeping the avalanche or anything here?
00:40:42
Speaker
I mean, that's that's a major deal. And then you got Carolina. They play up in Raleigh, like where I used live at and everything. Montreal. But I mean, the ah the Stanley Cup kicks off, what, the same same day as the NBA final? I believe so. I believe they both kick off on the third, yes. um Which makes no sense to me whatsoever. Why are you competing for TV time when y'all can just go back back to back on different days? But whatever.
00:41:06
Speaker
But... Man, i'm backum store I'm hoping that Carolina pulls it out. Okay. To be honest. Being from North Cackalacky, where you were just living at, yeah I understand that. um Look, I think that Vegas, here's your sports professor's stat for the NHL playoffs so far.
00:41:24
Speaker
The Vegas Golden Knights. have been an expansion team for nine years. That means they were a brand new team that had to come into the league and pick pick players from other people's rosters. Now, as I've talked about time and time again, the and NHL at least does a pretty good job of allowing their expansion teams to get at least a little better players than Major League Baseball, NFL, or and NBA do, where they just give you the bottom of the of the scrap.
00:41:52
Speaker
At least NHL tries to help them out a little bit. But here's your stat. The Vegas Golden Knights have made it to the conference finals five out of their first nine seasons as an experience.
00:42:05
Speaker
How crazy is that? That's that's huge. That's major. That's major, man. yeah Yeah, big time for them as an expansion team. And in Vegas, where it seems like their ah teams are having a lot of luck with the Aces.
00:42:17
Speaker
Let's hope it runs off onto my Raiders, baby. Now let me ask you question. I know I'm to you a crazy question because I don't get much. How many games do you have? How many hockey matches? Is it matches? ah Games? Game matches? Sure, whatever. How how many do you have to win in order to be become a place? Is it likece like basketball? Six, seven Yeah, it's seven games. yes yeah Okay, okay, gotcha.
00:42:39
Speaker
All right, cool. Well, earlier we talked about Nashville hosting the Super Bowl. Let's move it into Canteen. Everybody's favorite segment still going on now, even though I'm not on the bottom line anymore. The Sports Professors
00:43:01
Speaker
The Sports Professors Mixed Bag. So, my brother, let's talk about it. NFL, there's been a lot of news going on. First of all, the league is still considering moving to 18-game schedule. ah The uncertainty right now is how they would alter the dates of the season, including the Super Bowl, which is supposed to be in Atlanta in 2028, and in Vegas,
00:43:30
Speaker
in 2029. So since they do not have clarity on that yet, they have not decided on if they're going to 18 games or not. We know that the Players Association so far has been against the 18 games, but we also know that the NFL makes hand over fist billions of billions of dollars every year, and the owners want 18 games, and the league is going to eventually get 18 games no matter what. So what do you think about the 18-game game Also, what do you think is a side ancillary question to that is the international slate.
00:44:07
Speaker
It's now up to 11 games. Okay. All right. Talk to us. Talk to us. What we got Here's my thing, man. The 18-game scheduled slate, I'm all for it I like it. I think you'll need to interject it now.
00:44:20
Speaker
But you would have to add extra by week for player safety. Two by weeks. That's what up I said. Two by weeks, two preseason games, eliminate the four preseason games. two I agree with that completely. um The season will run longer, which means the season will be the latter, the latter part of February.
00:44:37
Speaker
yeah My thing with that is man, the two by weeks, Man, you have to you have to run right into the wild card weekend like immediately. Wild card and stuff immediately. And so they got to figure out a way to to to to navigate and circumvent the wild card, the conference games, the semifinals and then the finals and all that stuff like that. So I'm all for the 18 games, but players need two bye weeks.
00:45:04
Speaker
And even with the schedule that they've that they've dropped this year, man, here's here's my heartburn, man. The NFL... They really pissed me off with the whole international games. man I think this this is just my thing. I think going international is a waste, but then you have to look at it from a different spectrum. from It's all about the money and global fans and everything.
00:45:28
Speaker
Right, know and global fans and then it's the National Football League. Now some of the games that they have slated, when they slated the first, I think week one with the Rams at forty nine as and 49ers in Melbourne, Australia. I was not for that one.
00:45:42
Speaker
Why is that too far? Yeah, but but I can dig. I can dig when the Ravens play the Cowboys in Brazil. I think that's a nice. sit i And if you're picking up what I'm putting down, hey, that's a beautiful segue.
00:46:00
Speaker
um I think with the NFL, they continue to go to London. I don't really see much traction over there. Because you only, I mean, who you playing? Wait a second, because you know they're eventually going to put the Jaguars over there full time, don't you think?
00:46:12
Speaker
The Jaguars got two games over there. Back to back. They about to be having four and then six and then eight. So the thing is when you got a team that's playing multiple weeks over there, the Eagles and Jags, tip you got Texas Jags, Colts Commanders, Steelers Saints going to France, the Falcons, they're going to go play the Bengals in Madrid.
00:46:34
Speaker
Man, Professor Ackman. The only game that I would dig or support. I'm gonna support my team. and I mean, I'll build an NFL Network anyway. I don't care, but I think the game is gonna get some major traction.
00:46:47
Speaker
That Baltimore and that Dallas game. new And I'm telling and when you think about Brazil. You gotta to have a open mind. Yes. Yes. That's what I think. But 18 games. hey I'm with it. 18 games to by weeks.
00:47:03
Speaker
Man, going to play two preseason games. Oh, this preseason, man, look. You get all your looks in the first two weeks. Let's get down to business. Let's play. and now Go ahead. Continue. No, no, you're good. was going to take the same way.
00:47:15
Speaker
No, no, go ahead. No, no, go. Continue. my My thing is this, man. How does the NFL really predict and project who gets the premier games on TV?
00:47:27
Speaker
Now, I know you're going to get to it. going to let you be the same way to say it for your rating. I'm not going to say it. You want me say it? Go ahead. How does a team not get one? Come on, man.
00:47:40
Speaker
That's funny you say that. yeah there are There are four teams that don't have one, right? Who is it? I believe it's my Raiders. I believe it's the Jets. I believe it's the Browns.
00:47:52
Speaker
And I believe it is the Titans. I think you're right. But look, no if you suck, you suck. That's your fault. and if If you suck, you suck. I don't care. You suck. i don't I'm not even mad. I will say. You said I suck.
00:48:08
Speaker
No, I said if we suck. like that if you like if you like If your team sucks. Like for my Raiders, for instance. I personally ah was, I'm with you. i When I first saw the schedule come out, I was like, damn, weird we ain't even. Dang it, man.
00:48:23
Speaker
we' get no what not We're in Vegas. We don't get one a prime time game. But we suck. Why would you want to put us on TV if we're just going to play bad anyways? You know what I mean?
00:48:35
Speaker
So I understand it. from But i would I'm with you. I would make sure every team in the league at least have one. even Even if it's a Thursday night game. bro Thursday nights are shitty games anyways. And should be and that's what and that's what I try to tell people.
00:48:50
Speaker
Your Monday night, Sunday night. But then at the nfl man if the NFL went back to having Thursday night games on ESPN or having the regular games on TV, then Prime, it will be better.
00:49:02
Speaker
and And I'll be honest. Sunday night is more premier than Monday night to me. Okay. To me. yeah I mean, most more people more people are probably watching because it's on NBC and because people are at home, they're not working. Monday, people work late sometimes. Yeah, I get truth to you. Yeah, you want to hit some of the prime, some of some of the key matchups?
00:49:24
Speaker
Yes, go ahead, please. What do got? All right, man. So- I don't know what the hell of the NFL was thinking this year. But anyway, they're gonna have the first NFL game on Wednesday night. It's gonna be a rematch. You know what they're doing? They're trying to get a game every day of the week. Eventually, we're gonna have Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, every damn day. And so what's gonna happen? What's gonna happen, what's notnna happen Professor?
00:49:45
Speaker
That means people gonna buy more alcohol. They're gonna eat more. I mean, it's it's all all about the money. Consumer, man. money and my So here we go. Peyton Seahawks that game, I think it'll be cool.
00:50:00
Speaker
I'm not really too caught up about the Rams 49ers game. I mean, that's a divisional game, but the Cowboys Giants week one, that's going to big. And the reason I said that was going to big, I think Harbaugh got something his sleeve, man.
00:50:12
Speaker
He has a story to tell and something to prove. Okay. And then Monday night, they got the Broncos Chiefs. ah Some of the most you know meaningful games on Thursday night, you got Lions, Bills, Buccaneers, Cowboys, Seahawks, Broncos, Chiefs, Rams.
00:50:26
Speaker
These are throughout the season, Rams, Bengals.
00:50:31
Speaker
The game that I'm really looking forward to, some of the games, week six, Cowboys play the Packers. That's going to be huge. Man, the NFL really did a number, Professor.
00:50:43
Speaker
They brought Thursday night football, The Chiefs play the Bills at Highmark Thanksgiving night. That's going to beautiful.
00:50:53
Speaker
That's going to be a beautiful one. That's going beautiful one. can you know what else is beautiful, Canteen? Did you know that me and my dad started a show together called Poppy and the Professor Seminole? No, man.
00:51:04
Speaker
Okay. So you're going to have to watch it. It's good. We've only had two episodes thus far. But if you did watch it, you would have known โ€“ that Those i want it nice to are going to Brazil and already got our plane tickets. We about to get our hotel.
00:51:29
Speaker
We gonna be in Rio with some of the Latinas. Hey, bro, you want to do a show or go live or do something, man. oh you damn right. I'll be there for whole week. hey.
00:51:43
Speaker
the nfl The NFL got that one right, didn't i know they did
00:51:49
Speaker
I know they did. Yo, once it came out, my dad was like, I want to go to Brazil. I was like, let's do it. Let's fucking go. So your boy is going to Rio, baby. I can't even imagine. I don't even to know. I don't even want to know. You don't want to know. You don't want to know what's going to happen. I'm going to do some things that are probably not advised. Hey, this is probably going back and...
00:52:12
Speaker
Hey, bro. But yeah, so those are the games that I'm really happy about. Some of the big Monday night games, Cowboys, Eagles, Patriots, Chief. But I think the NFL, they kind of got it right with the schedule.
00:52:25
Speaker
I think they kind of knowing they can be knowing they're getting better. They're getting much better at creating better. And I think they they know and they can project how the season is going to pan out. Getting better with the AI and all that stuff. Yeah. Teams are going to be best. Things just like that.
00:52:40
Speaker
oh But like I said, man, they've they've gotten much better. I mean, you still got the same. Some of the teams that still play the holiday games, but like I'm saying, like the Chiefs, you're going to be major. That game when you guys go to Brazil, that's going to major one.
00:52:53
Speaker
Some of the Christmas Day matchups, they're going to be major. And then you got games, um New Year's Eve and stuff. So I'm not not in and that. it The NFL got it wrong with the um New Year's Eve, man.
00:53:06
Speaker
My thing is this right here. You're going to be competing with the CFP. You got all those bowl games and then that whole thing is expanding. fact Yeah, man. So I don't. And like why would you want to anyways? Because in my eyes, as we know, college football players go to the NFL. It's the feeder league. the minor. You might as well want to promote them too.
00:53:27
Speaker
Yeah. You know what I mean? So that game. Why would you not want more eyes on your future players? You know what I mean? That game, that game, be December 31st, is going to be but the Baltimore Ravens at Cincinnati Thursday night game. yeah I don't agree with that. If you're competing with the, with the end national championship semifinals. Semifinals and stuff like that. No, i don't like that. don't like that at all. yeah But that's a great segue because the last topic we're going to talk about, college football playoffs. They're talking about expanding to 24 teams, Canteen. I mean, come on, man. We started at four.
00:54:00
Speaker
Now we're at 12. Then they want to go to 16. Then they didn't want to go to 24. I mean, what are we talking about right now? When is enough enough? I know it's all about the dollar dollar bills, y'all. And that's why they're doing this.
00:54:14
Speaker
And I know that we talked about this when we were on the bottom line sports a few years ago. And I mentioned you how, you know, ah Chip Kelly and other people were right when they said super conferences are coming soon enough. You know, these 40 team super conferences. It is eventually going to be 24.
00:54:30
Speaker
And even the Big Ten uh commissioner uh tony patetti said this when the sec and the um when the sec was just said they didn't want to go past 16 right so they want to take it to 16 but they don't want to go to 24. the big 10 was like all right we'll wait because they're like they know it's still gonna happen eventually anyway so talk to us what do you think about all this expansion uh yes it's about the money but do you think this is good for the game Alright, so when we when we went to the 12 team thing, man, we had the top four teams got a bye. 5-12 play first round, and you had the quarterfinals, semifinals, national championship. That's what 12.
00:55:09
Speaker
Now, if you look at a hypothetical 2014 thing, professor, 24 teams, top eight get bys, 9-24 play first round.
00:55:19
Speaker
If they're able to skim down more games in the regular season, I think it would be feasible because because you're going to get your Georgia that beat up on Alabama, Alabama beat up Georgia.
00:55:31
Speaker
And now with the whole landscape of college football, man, I can't say the SEC is a powerhouse anymore. I can't. They're not. They're not. Big tennis caught up. Big tennis caught up.
00:55:43
Speaker
I can't look at basketball. Say that Georgia, Alabama, Texas. No, man, you got Miami and you got your state. You got these other teams that are They're grinding, they're putting in the work, offense, defense. that I mean, they're on the road grabbing these guys. The portal is wide open.
00:56:00
Speaker
That's what's going to make it a challenge, man. because Because guys can end up going anywhere, playing anywhere. But for 24 teams, going to have to skim down a regular season. You have no choice. And so my thing is this. Georgia playing a Tennessee State.
00:56:15
Speaker
I wouldn't even schedule nobody like that. You're going to either have to take the hard games and have the strength of schedule to make you get in there. Or how are you going to get in there? A Tennessee State going to get you there.
00:56:28
Speaker
Austin Peay ain't going to get you there, bro. It's not. Right. You have to be able to start playing competition and playing hard-nosed football teams at the beginning of the season. I'll give you an example. about pull it up right now.
00:56:42
Speaker
Because it's my mind since we've been talking about it. All Now, they do have it while he's doing that. The deadline is December 1st to decide on expansion. December versus year.
00:56:55
Speaker
think they're going to go with it. So what's going to end up happening the SEC, they'll skim it down because when I look at Georgia right now, Georgia, Tennessee State, Western Kentucky.
00:57:06
Speaker
Okay, let's talk about Arkansas, Oklahoma, Alabama, all but all all your hard-nosed teams. And then when it comes to SEC championship, you can't sit out your best player.
00:57:18
Speaker
You got to play because whoever wins that championship going get away that back. right And then they'll be and they'll be able to rack and stack the other guys now. So I think skim the schedule down.
00:57:30
Speaker
Okay. Cut out cut out all. But the thing that's going to happen, man, if you cut out all the middlemen like your Austin Peay or you cut out somebody like Tennessee State, then what happens with those guys?
00:57:40
Speaker
They're not going to get those non-conference schedule games and they're not going to get four or five million dollars for you to beat my brains out. it ain't going to work like that no more. Mm-hmm. So that's when they that's when the college football play. They got to really think, OK, OK, how are we going to navigate this? Because I'm going to pull up one more team and then be done. oh you're good but And while you're doing that, um what do you think about um Jake suggested that college football should just start earlier?
00:58:08
Speaker
started maybe a couple weeks year earlier. What do you think about that? a man no let let Let it all commence Labor Day weekend, man. I think that's when you get your bang for your buck Labor Day weekend. People off. So if you think about every Labor Day weekend, people's college football starts that Thursday before Labor Day.
00:58:24
Speaker
Then you roll into that Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Then you have games Saturday, Sunday, games on Monday, you're generating revenue and you got people that are going to be consumed with alcohol, football, food, family.
00:58:38
Speaker
That's how you make your money. I was looking at this other team, New Mexico State. They're out here where I am. Florida State going kill them, but they're going to make millions of dollars. Hawaii, My point is this. Take away their revenue.
00:58:50
Speaker
The middleman will lose the revenue. It doesn't matter if I'm Georgia, you Texas. We both gonna make money. Even if you beat my brains out, everything stays within what? The SEC. But then when I start bringing in you know, a team like new Mexico Lobos. Okay, well, I to pay for them to come here to Georgia, feed them, house them, all that. That's millions of dollars out of my budget.
00:59:12
Speaker
Yeah, that's true. And and if I beat them 70 points to nothing, that ain't gonna matter when it comes to this other playoff when they start to pick these teams start redrawing this bracket. More teams gonna be more problems.
00:59:23
Speaker
That's what i think. And you know what? I'm completely wrong about what Hot Take Jake said. It wasn't even to move it earlier. If I got this correct, and I've got to check the clip on this to make sure. Okay.
00:59:37
Speaker
But he said move college football completely out of the fall into the spring. Huh? Yes. Yes. Nah, man, you're you're screwing it up.
00:59:50
Speaker
Nah, leave it where it is, because if you move it to spring, man you got baseball. Then you, okay, so that means if you start the season in spring, that means guys are going to condition in the winter. The playoffs will be what, like fall?
01:00:02
Speaker
Yeah, in like May. Hell, no, man. No, no, no. No, hell no. No, man. No. Just, I think, leave it like so.
01:00:13
Speaker
Don't move it from around Labor Day, because that's when you'll get your most bang for your buck. Yeah. And college football going to build upon itself each week anyway, man. Yeah, I think what he was... I think what he was trying to say was that because the NFL is trying to move to 18 games, taking over every day of the week, you see with the Wednesday game, going international, that they're trying to do so much and they're taking so much of the college football's time that he believes that if college football moves to the spring, then they have all of the attention to themselves.
01:00:48
Speaker
He does have a good point. The only thing that I would do different with college football eliminate all college football on Thursday night. Thursday night is is like a complete waste. I mean, the last good Thursday night game I saw was Colorado played Jordan Tech.
01:01:02
Speaker
Well, again, that's the same with the NFL, but they don't care. it's just about the money. so they both yeah But, I mean, look, as as much as I hated Hot Take Jake's idea as a tradition as a traditionalist,
01:01:13
Speaker
think is a you know, when you kind of start thinking about it, if the NFL is going to take over in college football, yes, there's tons of college football fans in this in this country, but as much as people would think, like maybe foreign people or whoever, maybe not. There's more people that support the NFL, right?
01:01:31
Speaker
Well, I would think that the overlap is not even as much as people would think. I would think a lot of people would think that, you know, 90% of NFL fans are college fans and vice versa. I wouldn't even say that.
01:01:42
Speaker
I would say probably 50% or 60% of college fans are NFL fans and vice versa. Because not all people that watch NFL watch college and definitely not everybody that watches college watch the NFL. That's for damn sure.
01:01:54
Speaker
Because there's a lot of white people in the South, our Caucasian brothers and sisters, that love a lot of college football but hate the NFL. They hate the NFL. Yeah, yeah. I mean, I think it would be bring about a happy medium and stuff like that, but we just that we will have to reconsider other sports and other things like that, too. Yeah, because then what about baseball and NBA and NHL playoffs? Yeah, man. You know, I mean, it's a lot of you're going to be bumping up against somebody any point in time.
01:02:18
Speaker
Mm-hmm. Yeah. Right? So. So what do you think about this? Because March Madness on the a basketball side is expanding to 76 teams from 68. So now they're adding eight more play-in game, basically, to allow more the of the of the ah squads that don't have a chance to get in. I actually like this because it is giving the chance to the lower schools.
01:02:39
Speaker
So I actually appreciate Yeah, so I'm all for that, man. I'm all for... a team like North Carolina A&T. Yes, a 16 seeded team man. These guys have dominated the media. They've dominated their conference. They outplayed everybody.
01:02:56
Speaker
Okay. You know, besides, I mean, a mit like ah A duke or somebody would probably beat their brains out, but give them an opportunity to get on that big stage to be able to get the nice gifts the to get all the nice things that the NCAA tournament has to offer.
01:03:14
Speaker
I mean, if you look at like um Duke and all those teams, they're used to that. theyre yeah They're used to playing 64, 32, Sweet 16. Most teams that are prominent in the basketball arena, they're used to that. But if you get a team like an A&T or somebody that has never been on that caliber just to get there, that's kudos to you, the coach, kudos to the organization.
01:03:37
Speaker
But that's that's expansion for the organization. You know why? Because if I lead a team, to the NCAA. That's a bonus for me. more money for basketball, more money the program. Okay, we move down to this. So it's in all people's, it's in all contracts, but the lower tier schools need more visibility. I agree with that.
01:03:55
Speaker
to To be able to to show off their talent and showcase what they got. Because if you look at the draft, NFL, NBA draft, man, Deion Sanders Prime made a good point. You rarely see top tier talent from your FCS and those other lower tier schools. You don't see as much.
01:04:13
Speaker
you You see a lot of guys coming from Bama, Florida, Ohio State, but Jackson State. Ain't nobody went to the draft from Jackson State since Deion Sanders was there.
01:04:24
Speaker
So that's kind of like you want to give that notoriety and all that stuff to these other schools. Put them on a big stage. And it's kind of like the opposite of what I feel about the college football playoffs. Because in my eyes, the college football playoffs should not expand because it's obviously, well, obviously football is a much tougher sport. Go ahead. Man, when you look at a James Madison,
01:04:47
Speaker
go ahead man when you look at a james madison They were decent, but I mean, mash them up to play against somebody else and then move them into the heavy man. There's levels to the, there's levels. too Don't put them in lightweight fight then you want to out there with a heavyweight and get beat. Yeah, exactly.
01:05:04
Speaker
And basketball's a lot different. One game, you know, and upset an upset can't happen. A 16 can beat a one. A UMBC can beat Virginia. That's less likely in football, not to mention football is a much rougher game. so You can only play once a week versus once you know a couple of days. Every couple days.
01:05:23
Speaker
And not to mention in basketball, again, you can fill out a 78 March Madness because you can play so many games in a few days that it really doesn't matter. You're just providing extra basketball for the fans and giving more chances and more money to those lower schools. In football, it doesn't work, right? I think that 24 would be the most you could go because then you're really diluting it. And I don't even think you should go to 24, to be honest.
01:05:49
Speaker
And then my my thing about the whole college football club, man, I don't i don't even like how like every every year, The second Sunday in December, I get pissed off because that's when the SEC championship play. I remember like couple years ago I was up in New York and we was all doing a show and stuff like this. Like, OK, man, we know George is going to we know and it is like teams like like this past year, Notre dame And how do you look I mean, the Notre Dame plays like prominent teams.
01:06:15
Speaker
But since they don't belong to it, they're independent for football. The conference, right? Yep. ACC everything like I'm trying to but i understand his contract nbc is yeah i mean notre notre dame uh sold their soul uh so to speak and made one of the greatest deals in history for themselves um now is it unfair to everybody else in that that are better that are good teams and better conferences sure yes because notre dame plays a less of a schedule um and have the same
01:06:46
Speaker
uh uh automatic in as a lot of the blue bloods because they are a blue blood and so they've lucked into this sort of arrangement that to me i agree why the heck what the heck would you got out of it you better leverage that i mean because when you look at them now i'm just going to run through it they got wisconsin Rice Owls up, blow them out.
01:07:08
Speaker
Michigan State, Purdue, North Carolina Tar Heels, Stanford, BYU, Navy, Midshipmen. Bunch of nobodies. Miami. They go to Miami. I mean, BYU's good. Navy's good. Miami's good. Miami. bob But still, they don't play a a powerhouse like a Big Ten or SEC would. But if you look at it, ah that the bulk of their football schedule is all ACC guys, man. Yes, correct. I don't know, man.
01:07:34
Speaker
No, you have it right. So, okay, cool. I just wanted to get your your thoughts on that. Two more things in the mixed bag here. Oh, I got, a man, boy, i wanted to bring this thing up for you, too. Go ahead, go ahead. What's You know, my girlfriend got caught up in a scandal. She got all messed up and da-da-da.
01:07:52
Speaker
You know who I'm talking about.

Privacy and Media Relations

01:07:54
Speaker
Mike Braybullet. Oh, yeah, yeah. That's a big talking point. don't mean, what are you... what We don't have to stop staying up too long. What do you think about that? What do you think is gonna come out of that?
01:08:08
Speaker
Yeah, I'm definitely not going to stay too long on it because I have made a lot of mistakes in my life, so I ain't out here to call anybody else's mistakes out. But what I'll first say, and I've said this plenty of time, ah people, if you are in public and you see some people doing their thing and you think you're doing the right thing by taking a photo, man, don't be taking no photo. You don't know when somebody's having a private moment, when you can ruin somebody's life, and whether they're doing something wrong or right in your eyes. As K&T said, you ain't got nobody putting no heaven or hell in. Heaven or hell put nobody in. That's true.
01:08:38
Speaker
ah you know don't be doing that first of all keep your photos to yourself stop trying to break news by trying to get people in trouble ruining families but what i will say is um that stuff probably happens all the time it all the time i'm sure that insiders and owners and executives are smashing reporters and vice versa and players are smashing reporters and vice versa and cause i mean we didn't hear i mean we heard ah rumors about mba reporters that all getting, you know, smashed off by players. So we ain't going act like this doesn't happen. We ain't going to act like this going happen in the real world. Yeah, it may be a more of a, let me ah go back to a word that Kanteen used earlier, a beautiful word of the day, the proclivity.
01:09:23
Speaker
ah you know, of of of the industry of sports and entertainment that lend more opportunity for you to cheat on your significant other because you're around a bunch of other people all the time. You're traveling,

Entertainment and Controversies

01:09:37
Speaker
you're in different states, you ain't home, things can happen, you can fall attracted to another person, so on and so forth. So I ain't about to get into anybody's business and judge whether or whether or not they should have done what they did or not. What I will say is people need to mind their business. And what I will say is this probably happens way more than is than was exposed in that one major. You're absolutely correct, man.
01:10:03
Speaker
Yep. But, you know, hey, ahsh prayers to the families, the kids and the the wives and husbands that have to now deal with this fallout. You know what I'm saying? Hey, Drake and Kendrick. Drake came out with a new album, Iceman. Now, I don't listen to Drake, but I think you might listen to a little bit of Drake. No.
01:10:23
Speaker
Oh, you don't? Okay, you don't. too I do listen to Kendrick. I do love me some Kendrick. I am a hip-hop fan. ah Do you know anything about you know anything about this beef going on? No man, I just know man, Kendrick Lamar. Try to keep your help yourself in the good book.
01:10:39
Speaker
No, no, no, no. What I'm gonna say is man, Kendrick Lamar Coleman, I've never heard somebody make a song about swimming pools, pour up, drink, hit shot like swimming pool, money trees. Like, I mean, you the guy is a lyrical genius. And then the way he did the Super Bowl halftime,
01:10:58
Speaker
Nobody else can do that. Yeah, that was great. Yeah, I like it. Okay. i slide up I honestly just wanted to put the slide I made back up cause it's such a cool looking slide. ah But Drake did release Iceman and those two other albums. And so people are, you know, glazing him a lot now. And so people are starting to say, oh, but he came back at Kendrick. But even though it's like three years later, but you know, Kendrick going come back. So it's an ever running ah feud that they have going on right now. All right, two more stories before we get out of here in the mixed bag.
01:11:30
Speaker
What did you think about Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano in Netflix? Jake Paul put this on last week. What did you think about that fight?
01:11:42
Speaker
Man, so um you know I'm not a big fighter, but I did. I some of it, man. um Ronda Rousey has a phenomenal record, man.
01:11:53
Speaker
12 wins. I think she has only had two losses. I mean, she's she's done well. I don't know much about the other young lady, but it was on Netflix, so that's why I watched it. Oh, man. Oh, man.
01:12:05
Speaker
We'll get to that next. Yes. Yes. So, that yeah. No, I mean, look, I thought it it's um it was a money grab. I think it might have even been set up and rigged. I'm a conspiracy theorist when it comes to sports. but that You those are quick i think so? I think it was a little planned, yes. A little planned. Okay.
01:12:23
Speaker
No, just like the Ray J versus super hot fire. Did you see him get knocked out? Ray J got knocked out. And then he tried to say in the ring. And in the ring, he said it was planned. He called him out for fraud in the ring. He's like, I thought we had a plan.
01:12:35
Speaker
Like that could ruin a lot of people's money. That's betting. That's sports gambling. Like that' could that could cause some fraud and shit. They could get put up for, out for you know, charges for fraud. if People are crazy, man. Yeah.
01:12:48
Speaker
did you think about the roast of Kevin Hart a couple weeks ago? I just wanted to get your thoughts on these. I know we haven't talked about that. I think it was a good deal to able to get out of the roast. Did you think that the racist jokes were too much? George Floyd stuff, I don't like to play about, especially, don't like to bring black and white into racism, different things like that. So I think that stuff was a little bit overboard. I think him having Draymond Green, Sheryl Underwood,
01:13:15
Speaker
um Man, when Cat Williams part, I was like, no That was crazy. oh That was crazy. But Usher performed really well. Rob, Cat.
01:13:27
Speaker
Man, I'll say this about comedians in general. Cat Williams on my own. I hate to say it, Professor, you might think I'm crazy. Cat Williams on the Mount Rushmore comedians, man. Okay, I accept that. He's up there. I'll go Cat. He's probably in my top ten, I would say. Dave Capel, Red Fox, Bernie Mac, Robin Harris. Well, first of all, fool, on the Mount Rushmore, there's only four people, so you only get four, and you forgot about Eddie fucking Murphy.
01:13:55
Speaker
Yeah, Eddie Murphy. My girl likes to party all the time. Yeah, yeah, he bad. Hey, hey. digress. No, we have to talk about this at ah at a later time. I like the way this is going. But no, I will agree with you. Probably my top five would definitely be Eddie Murphy, Dave Chappelle, Bernie Mac.
01:14:14
Speaker
I can't think of anybody else right now. Some white comedians in there. George Carlin was good. here um yeah Yeah, exactly. there's ah There's some good ones. ah You know, John Leguizamo, if you want to dig into the one Hispanic one that I like, because don't really care about Gabrielle Iglesias, or George Lopez, really. But if you look at, you know,
01:14:33
Speaker
ah ah what is his name? Damn, I just... yeah Damn it. Now i'm mixing it with John Laranitis from WWE. Leguizamo, excuse me.
01:14:45
Speaker
Anyways, all right. One last topic

Enhanced Games and Ethical Debates

01:14:48
Speaker
before we get out of here. Have you heard of the enhanced games? i have ah all right so the enhanced games are a uh it's basically fully steroid or you can take performance enhancing drugs in order to perform in this olympic type event so basically um a few years ago when they started having the olympics and there were more people that were being denied from the olympics going to steroids and ph you know phdh and uh you know all the growth hormones and all that stuff and blah blah blah right yeah so essentially there are a bunch of people which were like well what if we decided that we all wanted to have an olympics for the people that wanted to use whatever they wanted to use to try to get an advantage and make it all legal for everybody that's great they came out with these things called the enhanced games it's happening right now
01:15:44
Speaker
In Vegas, 91% of the athletes are using testosterone, testosterone or other esters. um the ah They approve the substance usage by the athletes for about 12 week clinical trial period. The trial includes 36 patients.
01:16:03
Speaker
out of 42 of those athletes and only two of the athletes are competing without anything whatsoever. They're trying to kind of measure as well what that difference is between substance use in steroids versus not.
01:16:18
Speaker
The competition will have track and field, swimming, weightlifting, and will permit athletes to use legal performing enhancing drugs under medical supervision and offers prize money up to one million dollars the company also said 79 of athletes used hgh human growth hormone 62 of athletes use stimulants such as adderall and other uh prescription uppers so what do you think about this craziness Man, I think this is way out the deep end. I mean, if people want to try and do that and they approve of doing it, a I mean, I think go for it. It's just something. Oh, yeah. I mean, I'm all, I mean, hey, you're all if you're all doing the same thing, then fine. I'm all um'm all for expanding sports and expanding different things that people want to try and people want to experiment and experience if that's what they want to do, per se.
01:17:06
Speaker
But it is a little off the, off the rock. Man, you're taking steroids and this stuff that like just crazy stuff. Like, I don't know. Oh,
