Speaker: You can't pretend, now get ready for the show.
Speaker: Yo, yo, yo, what up friends? Welcome back to Ballin' Buds at another week. And this week we've got baseball. ah Yes, the MLB trade deadline was yesterday and we are going to cover everything.
Speaker: But first of all, make sure you subscribe to Ballin' Buds, B-A-L-L-A-N-D-B-U-D-S on YouTube, handy QR code up there the top. takes you to that link tree with all our other social medias hit that like button whether watching now or on the replay really helps us out in the algorithm and as well smash that notification bell so you know when i go to beat jake's ass this week in total eviscerations on thursday if we don't know what time we're going yet But y'all stay tuned. That being said, I've got my two baseball aficionado insiders with me today.
Speaker: One of them is cracking up too much, so I'll come to him in a second. Let's go to the other one that had a huge show last night talking the trade deadline, Alan Perales. What's good, baby?
Speaker: Hey, if you saw the show, you saw the epic rant that happened last night and it was wonderful. So um I'm excited to talk some baseball, even though my team is not doing so hot right now. But hey, it's the hot topic of the day. So it's let's go. I'm ready for it.
Speaker: Definitely some hot topics. We are going to cover them all today, including that huge, and we know you're mad, Tarek Skubal Trey. We'll talk about that in just a second. but And go of course you're going to take care of Jake because he's a Texas fan. You all would...
Speaker: You always take care of them, Texas fans. I'm sorry. Yeah, you know, it is what it is. That being said, one kind of fan I don't like is a Red Sox fan. And especially when that Red Sox fan is a happy Red Sox fan.
Speaker: And I believe he is a happy Red Sox fan today. Yes, I am. yeah Yes, I am. And I was laughing earlier and because you were just, you couldn't help promo right into the evisceration. Like, that's why I was cracking up is because, like, you already know you win. You've got, like, 162 and nil record against them. love that. So, like, you know. i mean a french there I like that as well. But, yeah, but been tune in and watch the show if you'd like.
Speaker: ah But yeah, I am i'm ah very happy with some of the moves that the Sox did. Would have liked to see more, but we can get to that later.
Speaker: You got the Bill Goldberg streak going. You got the Bill Goldberg streak going. There you go. There you go Yeah, i like that a lot. I like that a lot. ah Yeah. So just to let you all know, make sure you go check out AP. Last night they did their show on Rec Room Sports Hub. That's the Rec Room Sports Hub on YouTube. Tremendous show again, JG. Had a great rant on the potential lockout.
Speaker: Not potential. We all know what's coming. So go check that out. That was a really good episode they did there. And make sure you tap in with Rec Room Sports, Let's Talk Sports, and all the other networks out there that we can combine with as well. Amul will tell you at the end of the episode all about his new project that he's got going on. And he's going to want you to come check out his wonderful art and everything that he does. So he'll tell you about that at the end. But for now, let's just go ahead and kick this bad boy off, shall we? All right, gentlemen, first of all, want get into a couple things before we get into the actual, you know, angst of it all. But there were a couple videos that got me one of them, and there were two bench-clearing brawls
Speaker: Is this one of the ones I sent you? Jay, this is the one. I don't know if you sent me this one, but I know there were two of them that I saw. This one want to bring up because we all know that baseball has their unwritten rules of the game. Well, lot of sports do.
Speaker: But we know that baseball has its unwritten rules of the game in which... ah You know, teams and players will take a a discernment, a sort of disparagement to some actions taken by another team.
Speaker: So what do we got going on here? This is the Cleveland Guardians, Arizona Diamondbacks. We've got a perfect game going into the sixth inning. let me Let me make sure i i I say that so everybody understands. The sixth inning is where we're at with this perfect game.
Speaker: The Arizona batter comes up to bat and tries to lay down a bunt. Why? Why would he do such a thing? Maybe he doesn't want to hit in the second, in the sixth inning.
Speaker: Maybe he just wants to give up. I don't know. Either way, he tries to bunt, has a foul, and for some reason, all of these players in the Guardians, who, by the way, weren't even alive when these unwritten rules were unwritten,
Speaker: tried to get upset about my man trying to get a hit in the sixth inning. would understand if it's the ninth inning and he went for a punt, then, okay, that's a little cheeky. But you're talking about the sixth inning and you want us to just give up already?
Speaker: No, we can't have that happen. So let me, this is this is the onslaught after They've gone ahead to the eye goes for the butt. Bench is clear. The funniest part about it is they start to roll the tarps up. They roll the tarps up on these fools. They're like, yeah move the hell out the way. We don't care about this stupid argument. You're getting the field wet. Move. And they start to roll the tarps up on these fools. It's hilarious. So look at this. I want to show you again.
Speaker: what they got mad at here. You'll see the replay here in a second. Little bun attempt goes foul. Look at the catcher. What? It's the sixth inning, you jackass.
Speaker: Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Sigh. the unmitigated gall of this guy. Just, I couldn't believe when I saw this. I mean, I understand the unwritten rules, but that's crazy. In the sixth inning, you want me to just give up?
Speaker: Like, are the D-backs trying to stay relevant at this point? Like, what are you doing? Well, that doesn't answer the question. That doesn't answer the question. No, it doesn't. I mean, yes, they suck. We get it. that' like, like if if you're trying to help me out here, what was the count?
Speaker: Was the count, was it 3-2? Probably like an or sort of 1-0. Or 0-1? Yeah, I can't see. If it was an 0-2, that would have been a strikeout. I think it was like the first pitch too. I think it was the first pitch of the bat.
Speaker: so so basically So basically, not only are you trying to stand relevant, but you're just trying to piss people off. Don't do that. right, guys. You're not going to give up. All right, that's not what I expected from you. That's not what I expected from you.
Speaker: Here's the thing that makes this stupid though is that the bases were empty. It is stupid. If there was a runner on base, I get it. You're going to try to bunt to extend the runner. i get that. Right, right. But with the bases empty, why the – sorry. And does Tom West suddenly have super – Does Tom West suddenly have super speed? Like, you know.
Speaker: No, but you're trying to get head to break it up. You're not supposed to let the other team get a no-hitter or a perfect game. That'll make no damn sense. That's my point. No, that's my point. It's like, unless you ah you're just you're just showing off at this point. You're trying to bring up a no-hitter. It's not something that is supposed to be done. Shut up, Scott Kobe, AP's brother, on the Rec Room Sports Show last night. On the top. He's probably watching the east's he's watching the mobile version.
Speaker: Mobile version. Yeah, no, he he was all I could find today, Scott. But you're more than welcome to join us if you want to hop on, brother. AP will send you the link. You just let us know. We'll be talking some trade deadline.
Speaker: All right. You're more than welcome, for real. All right, cool. So anyways, yeah, so I wanted to just bring that up. AP, did you have any thoughts on that? um Other than, i mean, do you think it was, you think just because it was, it was it it was trying to go for a hit with no one on base that it wasn't legitimate? It was just a,
Speaker: You don't, because that's not strategic baseball. oh That's not strategic baseball. no I'm sorry. I'll accept. that that's that's If you're really trying to break up a no-hitter, you're going to try to get an an actual hit.
Speaker: If there's nobody on and you try to bunt, that's a cheap way to try to break up a no-hitter. And that's why they upset. Because it's a cheap way to try to end it.
Speaker: I don't think it's enough to go ahead and get benches clearing, but hey, we'll... hi it Well, it's also, you know, for the Guardians, they have a baseball guy as their manager. So yeah, you're going to get upset. Yeah, that's true. Luckily, though, as you mentioned that, Voight and Lavello, the both managers, are really good friends because Lavello managed Voight. So they a yeah they were they there was no bad blood between them and they understood. By the way, another one that happened was in the Mexican League. I'm not going to show that one. but wow some guy got dragged in the face and took it so much to the heart that he knocked this guy clean with a right hook like he was mike tyson man i was like and then tried to kick him in the head i was like what's wrong with you shit shades of her door knocking out jose yeah yeah yeah but at least i mean that was sort of uh that bautista sort of egged that on little
Speaker: I mean, I'm all in favor of having fights in baseball as long as they don't get too out of hand. As soon as you start like, on yeah, if you start getting out of hand, you know, it's just, yeah, it's too much. Also, that was kind of funny the other night watching Skip Schumacher get ejected during America the Beautiful.
Speaker: That's great. Yeah, that was hilarious. That was hilarious. And how he kept arguing with the um. you just argue it just He's arguing. looking at him arguing and he just gets kicked out afterwards i was like oh yeah here we go and it must be noted that that guy that got kicked out in the mexican league this isn't the first time he actually um this happened like 10 years ago uh where he got into a fight uh in another like uh game and started another brawl so it's not the first time it was which was like in minor leagues and he never played in organized american baseball again after that so that'll teach you you might not want to do that yeah so anyways let's get to the good stuff let's talk about it first we'll start with some standings and some power rankings so first of all these power rankings are from last week uh because mlb usually updates on tuesdays and they did not uh so i don't know why but
Speaker: Either way, I'm going to go to the standings and we're going make our own power rankings because I don't want use those old ones. Tampa Bay Rays 66-46 leading the American League East over the New York Yankees by three and a half games. We will talk about the trades made here. The Red Sox, as we mentioned, very happy Amul is five and a half games behind, made a huge interdivision trade to get Adley Rushman from the Orioles. We'll talk about that in just a second as well. In the AL Central, the Chicago White Sox made Huge moves to try keep them in the lead in the AL Central. You know, not only going out getting three players from my Mets, but making other trades as well. They are three games above Bobby G's Guardians there at 57 and 56. Moving into the AL West.
Speaker: the Houston Astros and AP's Rangers and the Mariners, all two and a half games separating the three Astros leading there by two and a half in the NL East.
Speaker: The Braves still leading a bunch, 67 and 45, seven and a half above the Phillies. We'll talk about, I know AP wants to bring this up because JG talked about it last night.
Speaker: The lack of moves by the Atlanta baseball team. NL Central, the Milwaukee Brewers trying to pull away their 69-43. The Cubbies, they're going for it, made some moves as well in order um to go ahead and and spruce up their team to try to catch the Brewers. Then in the NL West, we'll talk about it.
Speaker: We'll talk about why the whole world is mad. The Los Angeles Dodgers have done it again. Why do we keep letting them happen?
Speaker: but Check out JG's rant on Rec Room or Sports Hub. I know AP will touch on that a little bit. They're at 69 and 44, nine games above the Arizona Diamondbacks. So far ahead, their rivals gave up. and made an interdivision trade that made a lot of craziness between their fans.
Speaker: So that is your standings update, gentlemen. Amul, your Red Sox made some pretty big trades today. they did. Let me talk to you. What do you think about your Red Sox picking up Adley Rushman interdivision? I'm not sure about what the Orioles are doing here. I know AP will talk about it, but hit that hit on there.
Speaker: the I like what they did. i love what they did. i love, love, love, love. I wish that we could have traded more, but no one's gonna take Greg Weiser. Speaking of which, I think he was on earlier and the Red Sox just scored.
Speaker: ah But, um you know, the getting Adley Rutschman, I would have preferred if they would have chosen one of ah ah Witherspoon,
Speaker: and Ian Sin, and they sent both, but that's okay. That's fine. ah and I like that we were able to deal Marcel O'Meara finally. I've wanted him to be dealt for a while.
Speaker: i don't know what the O's are doing. I honestly don't. I wish I knew. i do know sort of what, and and I don't know if AP is gonna touch on this later, i do know a little bit of of what sort of went the Dodgers to go get Tarek Skubal because Zidane Raffaella was feasting on those Dodgers during the sweep.
Speaker: And I mean, if you don't have a pitcher that can shut down Zidane, you're in trouble. So I really love what the, the what the Sox did.
Speaker: ah Hopefully they can stay healthy. That's their key. Wonder about Garry Crochet. Wonder about the other, wonder about ah Roman Anthony. Trevor's story's done. ah He will probably never play shortstop again for the Red Sox.
Speaker: At least that's what I'm hearing according to, you know, news of North. um They would prefer that Franklin Arias go ahead and debut with the team next year.
Speaker: So that's what's looking like. That's that's that's the way things are are mapping out. I'm really excited. Really excited. I do want to talk about your Mets, but we'll get to your Mets later. Yeah, we'll get to that in a little bit. No point in talking about their their crappiness right now, but we will touch on them at the end. But yes, I do agree with you that your Red Sox are making a move for it. And with the Yankees having so many injuries, you know, and the Rays not going out and getting a school ball.
Speaker: The Jays selling. You know, they have enough. The Jays being sellers, obviously, because they don't have enough fake sellers, though, even though because they then went out and traded for Soriano after trading Gosman. But whatever. I know.
Speaker: um I will say I know what AP is going to say about the Orioles trading Rushman because they talked about it last night. So I'll let him say it. But I will say why I don't agree. is because if you're going to do what Baltimore did, which was tank for so many seasons, in order to get Adley Rushman and the other players you got, and to then give up on the best of those players that you got, and a catcher who is really hard to find, good catchers, and then to your rival. None of these things as a whole make sense to me, and I know the pitcher is good, but I i did it.
Speaker: This to me seems like typical Baltimore Oriole mismanagement that has been happening since I was damn four years old the first time I went to a game.
Speaker: AP, talk to us. I mean, yeah, um I like the pitching prospect that they got. Obviously, one of the top arms in Boston's farm system. to Two. Two of the top arms in Boston's farm system. They get, you know, obviously pitching has been a big thing for Baltimore the last few years because they've had the offensive production at times. They just haven't had the pitching.
Speaker: And that's been their Achilles heel. So they went out and they got some young pitchers that they can develop and build into to future aces. So, yeah. I mean, we'll see how it plays out in the end, but ultimately you trade him, trade Adley Rutschman to Boston to keep him out of New York.
Speaker: Because essentially if the if the Red Sox don't get him, the Yankees are literally going to go all in to try to get Rutschman because they need. they need a catcher they need a catcher that is one the one of the positions that they desperately need right now and they didn't get they got minimal at catcher in the trade deadline so um really really i love the move by the red sox because it it helps fill the need of their own and at the same time you keep a division rival from getting from getting retchman as well so
Speaker: Does that help them to catch the Rays, which is the most important question? The Rays went out and traded for Freddie Peralta because obviously the player hand is injured. they've got a couple injuries there at the top of the rotation. Does that do enough for them to catch the Rays?
Speaker: but This might be a hot take, but I actually like Boston better than New York or Tampa. Wow. I think there's ah there's a there's a good chance that if this this momentum continues, who i think the Red Sox can not only win the division, but make a deep run in the postseason.
Speaker: They're that good. They have been playing that good, especially if they get healthy. they've They've been playing that good. I know I'm giving every Boston fan hope right now, which is not a good thing, but...
Speaker: oh Yeah, you've already seen us when we're down. i i'm ah pet I'm upset because you're not the first one to say this. I'm upset because Hot Take Jake said this same thing on Total Evisceration last time. And so now both of you have hit me with some kind of Red Sox deep playoff run. I think Hot Take Jake said they were going go to the World Series against the Dodgers, but I don't know.
Speaker: i'm gonna i'm gonna say that I'm gonna say that it's this shirt that I'm wearing, because when this week started, i was wearing this shirt, and you know I've had it with me through several trips now, so you know and I've worn it since then, but yeah, I think it's that, honestly.
Speaker: And I'll say this, and I talked to you about this earlier, Amul, and I think you agree with me too. yeah and um gri And Scott talked about it last night on our show. If the Red Sox win one series or get to the ALCS, Craig Breslow's job is safe.
Speaker: Yeah, because he was in a lot of hot water before this streak started. And all went they went they went all in. ah ah So to say, so to speak, which is abnormal for the Red Sox because they usually don't do stuff like this at the trade deadline.
Speaker: You go get Adley Rutschman, you go get more help. And here they are. Yeah, it's been a while. It's since davidve since what? David Ortiz or Manny Ramirez? Since they got a big game? I want to say since Manny.
Speaker: At least since Manny, definitely since Ortiz. But I also wanted to say this about Baltimore. Get Mike Elias out of there. Like, just get him out of there so that you can actually properly build. i' I'm going to side with Omar here since I was a kid. Actually, we, but we know why.
Speaker: We may know what the reason is. not Mike Elias. It's the in Angelos family that won't sell team. It is. it's done nothing good except build tandem yards.
Speaker: Yes, and think mean even right they can't even keep that right. So like if if you're seeing this, Angelo's family, sell. Just so like it's like carbon a private sell. the team but Move into private equity, you'll be fine.
Speaker: it like then the red sox scored again yeah well there you go they're up there They got 13 on the board now. We're we're up thirteen to two and Bray and Baio is up. Bray and Baio is... Scott Baio! No, Bray and Baio. Bray and Baio.
Speaker: You're talking about Scott Baio Charles in Charge. Charles in Charge of our days. mail Baio is up. It's top 7 right now.
Speaker: But um yeah. The Soxster, I mean, it started with Caleb Durbin's Grand Slam. I'll say that. It started with his, this the first inning. And we I just sat there and was like, all right, here we go. Like, I started texting friends. I was like, all right, can you please turn this game on somehow? I will give you my credentials. Like, you know, if you're not in the Boston area. ah But they are, it's the the run that I thought they were going to keep going.
Speaker: After 15, I really thought they were. And then when they, honestly, it was a good run. I wasn't sad. um I wanted to see what they're doing. So cautious optimism moving forward.
Speaker: um And, you know, to whoever said that the Sox wouldn't make it to third place this year. I hope, Omar, you never invite him back to your show. I can't disinvite myself. Suck! Red Sox suck! All right, we're moving on to this. It wasn't you. It was one of your friends. It was one of your friends. And you know which one, too, I think. So I would never disinvite you. If not for you, on occasion, you just, for whatever reason, have technical difficulties, AP and I wouldn't have a show to carry. We wouldn't have a team to laugh at.
Speaker: yeah that well We'll laugh at my team in a little bit. Let's move it on. I was going to wait. I was going to to i was gonna wait. on AP. team. Let's go to the AL West. As I said, Houston Astros two and a half games above the Rangers and the Mariners. Your Rangers, by the way, as you had mentioned offline, and I know you'll talk about this, did not trade Jacob DeGrom. He pulled his no trade clause um in the ah in the Seattle Mariners. They traded Luis Castillo to the White Sox. We'll talk about that, although he had a really high ERA, so it was down season for him. We'll talk about all that. And then as well,
Speaker: but over there, the Houston Astros, um you know, Why aren't they, if if you have that lead there, i need you to be making more of a concerted effort to try to build your team than they did. I didn't feel like they made enough of a push. Yeah, they got Dalton Varsha who they needed, but I feel like they they could have gone a little higher, up up aimed a little higher, excuse me. Anyways, AP, this is your division. What you got?
Speaker: I mean, this has been the AOS in a nutshell all season. Literally get do nothing. Literally done nothing all the year. AOS and Astros, same thing. Didn't do much at the deadline. the year You're still winning the division. Doesn't matter. Nobody needed to do anything because this division is still up for grabs. You could have a sub-500 team win this division and make the playoffs.
Speaker: Yeah, true. Very true. I mean, angels a A's and Angels, we knew they were going to sell hard because they're just basically out of it at this point. Angels basically sold everybody except Mike Trout, which is still a stupid move. I don't know why they didn't do that like five years ago. Still makes no damn sense. What are we doing?
Speaker: i don know guys you guys see the You guys see the meme with Fresh Prince of Bel-Air where Mike Trout is in the living room alone? nolarious yeah And they just DFA'd Jorge Soler today. So that's another piece of going.
Speaker: So the Angels continue to do Angel things. The A's are about to move into a new stadium. So they've got a great young core that they can build off of. So I understand why they didn't make a move at the deadline.
Speaker: Rangers, um you needed some catching help. So you just go to the Angels and say, hey, can we borrow Logan O'Hoffee for the rest of the season? Cool. That's awesome. um And Josh Smith, yeah, I know getting traded. he He's been kind of mid this year. he's been spending a lot of time in AAA because most of the major league stats have not panned out well the way they did last year. So, you know, maybe a fresh scenery in Toronto will help him.
Speaker: um And then, of course, the Astros didn't do anything either because, you know, they have the AL MVP still with Jordan Alvarez. Jordan Alvarez. And the 53-year-old Jose Altuve still playing in the middle infield.
Speaker: So, there they go. He's still going good. Don't make fun of that old man. He's still grabbing his jersey, you know. He's still grabbing his jersey. Oh, no. But yeah, this is what I kind of expected from the AL West as a whole is that not many moves were going to be made.
Speaker: You know, Castillo going to the White Sox, okay. He hasn't been pitching great this year. There's a big reason why the the the Mariners have struggled. oh It's just the AL West in a nutshell. this is this This is what we do. We play mediocre baseball and it's entertaining.
Speaker: Do you think that you all will win the division? There's a chance. I mean, you you know, ah we said this on our show last night. is a quote from Bobby Cox. If you're within five games at the trade deadline, you're in it.
Speaker: So there's a there's. Still a good chance that if the Rangers offense gets hot, if the pitching starts to come around a little bit better here like in the next couple of weeks, yeah, they're going to try to make a run and win the division. But yeah know the Astros are still going to be the Astros because they're like little cockroaches. though won't They won't go away.
Speaker: um The Mariners might hang on for a little bit and then they'll just Mariner their way out of it. um But for the most part, it's it's a three-team race for one playoff spot because I don't think any of these three, any. Oh, my God, no. because And none of these three teams are going to be a wildcard team because I think you're going to start to see the White Sox are getting better. Like I mentioned before, the Red Sox and Yankees are getting better.
Speaker: Rays are going to get better. You're going to start seeing these wildcard teams start to win more and more games. So I don't think any other team in this division is going to win and get ah i have a wildcard spot. I agree with that. Yep.
Speaker: Any thoughts on the AL West trade deadline, Amul? um Honestly, I wish they would do more. I feel bad for for Mike Trout. I really do. i wish they would just let him go wherever he wants to go.
Speaker: Just let him go wherever he wants to go. It's okay. Philly, make a deal. You know, Baltimore, make a deal. I'm just saying, like, let this happen. You know, to remove. And you thought somebody would have tried a little harder, too, because he's been playing so well this season. yeah I know, but I mean, for whatever reason. The thing is with Trout is his stock is down still, though.
Speaker: Like, compared to what it was five years ago, the stock is down. He's having a resurgent season. I i understand that. He's still having a resurgent season. If I'm the Yankees, I'm on him. If I'm the Phillies, I'm on him.
Speaker: You know what I mean? He's from Philadelphia. Like, the Phillies should be like, hey, let me go grab him bring him up. And then, again, this comes down to the Angels' ownership and the Angels' management.
Speaker: for not wanting to trade Mike Trout. They had their opportunities for the years. They don't want to trade it for whatever reason. And Trout is is kind of at fault too because he doesn't want to get traded.
Speaker: He's already he's told the agent before he does not want to leave LA. For whatever reason, he does not want to leave the agency. He has said that in the past that he does not want to leave LA. Is it because of familial reasons? Is it because his family and everything is ensconced there? and they're They're settled?
Speaker: he's an old school mind he's an old school mind minded baseball player he wants to stay with one wants to stay with one team he wants to stay the entire career with one team a visit what team at this point you might well if you're in i mean i guess yeah you might as well thing i don't know if you guys agree because we've been talking about this on our show the angels are not only the worst run organization in baseball but they might be the worst run organization in every major sport between all the major sports That's very, very, very true. I mean, you look at everything that's happened to that organization since 2002, since they won their World Series, has been abysmal. Terrible, terrible contract with Albert Pujols, terrible free agent signing of Josh Hamilton, bringing in Anthony Randoon, who does not like baseball at all. Right, right. Spending an entire draft class on nothing but pitchers who none of them are on their roster anymore. Yep.
Speaker: Facts. Big killing Shohei Otani's career in LA until he went to the Dodgers. Killing Mike Trout's career and mean he was in the LA. So they have not. I forgot Shohei was even in. man i Yeah. bad and yeah We're the same number and everything.
Speaker: I do think. i will say It's literally one of the worst organizations in all of professional sports. oh you're i you are complete I will say I think the Rangers will... um well will be the AL West leaders and the Astros will fade because I just hate the Astros and think they're cheaters. So y'all know that. But like, it's possible the Mariners could overtake the Astros. You never know. um But I do think the Rangers, it's the Rangers ah um and division to lose at this point.
Speaker: All right, cool. I hope you're right. I really do. I'm fairly optimistic. When we get to when we get to his Mets, we'll talk about it. Well, first, we've got to go to the AL Central, and we're not going to talk about the big trade yet. We're going to tease that a little bit longer.
Speaker: Chicago White Sox went and got Brazobon from my Mets, who has been tremendous all year in the bullpen to shore that up. As we mentioned, they went out and got Luis Castillo from the Mariners again on a little bit of a down season, an over five ERA. But that doesn't mean that he can't be ah reawakened. We know that a change of scenery has helped plenty of people before. And Luis Castillo is that good that that could be something that we might see. So it just it's it's it is a possibility. um The White Sox, though, are they need this, right, especially with the Detroit Tigers going ahead and completely giving up on their season. Only five and a half games behind the White Sox, ah but they figured they could not do it and wanted to give away everything. Again, I'm just teasing it. We'll talk about that in a little bit. So no one touched on that yet.
Speaker: Guardians three games behind. Let's talk about this AL Central. Did the Chicago White Sox make enough moves to hold off the Guardians? Amor, we'll start with you.
Speaker: Maybe. Maybe. I like that the White Sox shorts stuff up. um ah The reason why I was looking at my second screen was because I was analyzing the moves.
Speaker: And, you know, the the fact that they went out and got Joey Bart, who is playing tonight, and I think was two for four, ah you know, is, that's a good thing to do. ah Sean Murphy nearing a return from minor league rehab assignment. Braves will return to the normal catching line at a break Baldwin. Okay, that that doesn't affect the White Sox.
Speaker: But my fact is, the fact is that they've they've actually gotten better. a little bit. They're short of, especially I was surprised that they got Louis Castillo ah and was kind of happy as they didn't have to give up Teal or anyone else.
Speaker: I think Teal's on the IL right now, ah which is why they added Bart to begin with. um But i i I think it's going to be, let me look at the standings, I think it's going to be neck and neck. Right now the guards are three and a half back.
Speaker: But from what I understand, the or from hearing about how they, ah let's say, they they lost one to the the Reds. So I think they were playing the Reds.
Speaker: But yeah, they're I think they're playing them tonight. So we'll see if they can ah win tonight. And if they can, great. ah But I think it's going to be neck and neck coming down the pike for them. Now, AP, the Guardians made some, oh, did you have something else to say, Amul? No. No, good.
Speaker: um The Guardians made some moves, AP. They brought in Joe Adele as a right right batter a righty hitter that they needed. They needed a lefty. They brought in Nathaniel Lowe at first base. And then they went out and got national starter Foren Griffin, who was in Japan for the past few years and has been playing very well with the Nationals to start the season. What are your thoughts on the Guardians? Can they catch and take over the White Sox?
Speaker: and that they They really miss Jose Ramirez. They really miss Jose Ramirez. The Nathaniel Lowe pickup tells me they're not going to have Jose Ramirez for the rest of the year.
Speaker: And that sucks because um you need that production in your lineup. You need that bat in your order to to kind of carry some offensive pop. Yeah. It's going to suck. And and like unfortunately, as Bobby G will tell you, Tanner Bybee is still on the roster and he is trash. So... ah and it's it's um It's unfortunate. i I actually don't think that they'll catch the White Sox. I think the White Sox, once they start catching stride a little bit, they're gonna start pulling away from the Guardians here in the Central and win this division. So, I mean, the guard i mean the Guardians just lost to your Mets tonight. So that's not a good start.
Speaker: Wow. So you are going all the way with the with the with the White Sox. They were my wild card pick at the beginning of the season. Okay. And now I believe firmly believe that they will win the AL Central.
Speaker: Wow. Amor, do you agree with that? uh yeah sure um i say that in a nonchalant way because i'm very convincing wait ever biggest because i want to see this play out i'm of the mindset that i want to see this play out you got foster griffin who yes he's not enough but the way he's been pitching for your favorite ultimate team the washington nationals uh uh you know um you know this year
Speaker: is is very much ace-like. And so why not? Let's see if he can we can roll the dice with him and see he can, you know, give the guards some wins that they didn't think they had.
Speaker: See if he can go seven. By the way, Cubs lead the Dodgers 2-1. Schubel's given up two runs on his debut as ah as a Dodger. And if they lose tonight, that would be five losses in a row for the Dodgers.
Speaker: Yes, it was. That would be, that's that's the summer swoon that ah we should all become accustomed to here ah ah in the future, perhaps. I want everybody to make sure that they noted the projection that Amul just did within his argument as he said, my favorite second team, when actually was the one that was originally a Red Sox fan and then somehow became a Nationals fan later on. ah don't have two teams out there. people We're poor and raised in this area. so yeah rule of we have talked about this before. You do not have two teams in the same sport.
Speaker: It is unacceptable. i don't want to hear anything. I mean, don't worry, you kind of have to. Don't worry, we'll talk about your men soon. We'll talk about your men soon. We're putting them off as long as possible, bro. We're putting them as long as possible. Let's talk about the NL Central first. The Milwaukee Braves and the Chicago Cubs. Milwaukee Braves five and a half.
Speaker: Up above Cubs. Brewers. Brewers. What they did. Damn, I took it. Brewers out the raves. Milwaukee Braves. you know the way yeah What think? What is this? you what Do you want to take a break some while the two of us carry your ear show for a second? This is the 1940s when they had Hank Aaron. This is what that is. We're going to put a monochrome filter on this. We're going to put a monochrome filter on this particular...
Speaker: on this particular show, ladies and gentlemen. All right, so the Milwaukee Brewers came away with Dustin May. That's a huge pickup. um And as well... JoJo Romero, too.
Speaker: And JoJo Romero, thank you for that, yes. And then when you're looking at the competitors in their division, the Cincinnati Reds, um I not much to write home about. They did complete two minor trades, but nothing that was going to get them lifted up anywhere. So I think, again, this is the Brewers' division to to lose. Does anyone disagree um here? I think that the Cubs, the now I will say,
Speaker: I mentioned earlier the Cubs took two players from our, my Mets, Tyrone Taylor and Clay Holmes, two really good pickups. try Tyrone Taylor's been on a heater the past couple weeks. He had like had like six home runs in 10 games or something. And then um Clay Holmes, who we got from the Yankees a couple years ago, has reinvented himself as a starting pitcher from when he was a reliever.
Speaker: So does everybody agree with me or does anyone have the Cubs? I think you had the Cubs, A.P. Yeah. Didn't you last time? ah Yeah, um I think the Cubs actually outdid the Brewers at the trade deadline. I think they did a little bit more to to kind of solidify themselves as as a contender in that division.
Speaker: And I think if you're a Brewers fan, you're a little nervous because, yeah, you got a couple good pieces, but that's it. That was it. Look at what the Cubs did. They kind of got a haul yesterday and they some good they they've gradually greatly improved their team. And now they you he take it to the defending champions not once, but potentially twice in a row after the trade deadline.
Speaker: You don't think their momentum is their their motivation is sky high right now. So right I do think actually, I do think the Cubs can catch the Brewers and potentially win this division. ah I'm kind of kind of in the same boat as Amul was with the AL Central. I'm kind of excited to see how this race goes down between the Cubs and the Brewers.
Speaker: But I do think that the Cubs can catch the Brewers and make it a competitive race for the division. Amul, do you agree? The arms race. The arms race that the Cubs...
Speaker: uh went out and traded for getting the haul that they did homes uh gossman garrett i only listed the top three of the or those that i thought were the top three tyrone taylor but you know forgot that in and of itself yeah that that and ah in and of itself like you know it is something they're going for you got to you have they're going finally they're going finally traded off jamie jamie tallien as well yeah finally guy i saw relief to i saw something that said that the cubs uh that these moves basically made it so the cubs world series champion or or or world series champions i'm sorry That was a that was a slip. But basically, that they did people are one people are people are writing in the Cubs outside of Chicago because of all the pitchers that they acquired.
Speaker: Now, I do like what the Brewers did with getting Dustin May and JoJo Romero. I don't think it's enough. but also they the Cubs are five and a half back. So you it's gonna be another, are they, it I wonder, someone check the schedule for me, but are they playing the last series of the year out of curiosity?
Speaker: well because against each other let me check yeah against each other yeah i i'll check i'm i'm looking it up right now all right cool because because i wonder if that's going to be it if if the cubs can can gain a few on the brewers yeah you know what y'all have changed my mind because with kevin gossman too that really shores up that they their final series with the brewers is at the beginning of september um um okay their last their last their last schedule let's do better Their last series, ironically enough, for the Cubs is in Boston.
Speaker: Love that. Love that. ah um Let me see what the Brewers are real quick. See if I can get them. but Go ahead. No, I was saying I agree with you all. I think that yeah now that I'm evaluating the moves as we're speaking about it, with Kevin Gossman, with Clay Holmes soaring up in that rotation, with Tyrone Taylor going out and being a you know a a help to PCA eight there in the outfield, I mean, I think the Cubs could catch the Brewers. Now, I had the Brewers at the beginning of the season, and y'all know I stick with my picks as long as I can, so I'll stick with the Brewers for now. But, yeah, I could definitely see the Cubs.
Speaker: So yeah, there's ah there's a home and home series at the beginning of September with both teams with the rt with the Brewers having the Reds in the middle. But it starts out in Chicago and then it goes to Milwaukee for the second series in the second week of September. And then for the Brewers, they end the they end the season with the Phillies and the Cardinals. So wow they go to Philadelphia and then they finish at home against the Cardinals. so Okay. So the start of September is going to be interesting and the end of September is going to get interesting.
Speaker: All right. Well, very interesting. And the Cubs have er are getting Justin Steele back to form as well, I believe. um Yeah. Yeah. dude Yeah, and I mean, again, like we said, um they had to go for it, right? I mean, if you are in the position where you're only a little bit behind, um you know, your rivals, and yeah they did not do you necessarily as much as some people may have wanted them to do, and as much as you all are saying, and I do agree with you.
Speaker: um So, yeah, it makes sense. You got to go for it if you're the Cubs. So, we will see. We'll keep you updated, obviously, on all these divisions. I'm sorry, I'm just looking at but the score. I'm looking at the score bug for the Angels and Orioles game today. The Angels had 11 hits, but only scored run.
Speaker: Wow. I was like, that is that is the Angels in a nutshell. That's great. I'll add potential for absolutely. It 14-2, top notch.
Speaker: and it's fourteen to two topno Damn, 14-2. All right, well, let's move it on to the NL East. Yes, my Mets are the scourge of the Major League Baseball world, just one of them with the Angels. But let's talk about some of the other teams in the division. First of all, the Atlanta baseball team, as I mentioned, lead the filling by 7.5. AP, I know you'll touch on this because JG on your show yesterday had a, he literally slain the
Speaker: the whole Braves organization behind his own team which is crazy he never does that it was great it was great because as a Mets fan I loved it I was laughing the whole entire time uh so go ahead um give us your updates there obviously I don't say I say I don't know why you're laughing because you spend all that money just to trade everybody off well I'm already i already know we suck so it doesn't matter keep all the keep all the retirees in your organization at least That's funny. So the Braves, though, right? The Phillies went out and got Arias. Look, Arias, I know people don't like it because he's not a power hitter, but all he does is hit the ball for average, just like an Ichiro, just like a Tony Gwynn. And I don't know why people don't like him, keep trading him. I would keep someone like that at the top of my lineup. Either way. good for him He's good for offense, bad for defense.
Speaker: that is That is basically the summary of what we talked about with him last night. He's good for offense, bad for de defense. So it's great if you're the Phillies because it helps your offense out. It kind of gets your runners on base, as you mentioned, and allows your your power hitters to drive in runs.
Speaker: But at the same time, it's like he's not that great of a defender. So and you move Bryce Harper back to right field, which he hasn't played in three years, which although he has done well tonight at right field. So I'm sure i yeah so I'm sure itll yeah it's just second nature to him, I guess. But um Well, if if the that's something to keep an eye on because we've seen players play out of position before and it did not go well, see Jose Altuve here in that field. um So, um yeah, ah it'll be interesting to see. I think their offense got better. but They got Brooks Raley, too, from us, who was a tremendous player.
Speaker: I think, that and again, the Braves, Yeah, talk to us. JG was telling you all about it yesterday. I mean, he pretty much summed it up. He's like, you got decent pieces, but that that's all you got was decent.
Speaker: And then that's been kind of the summary from the Braves since they won the World Series. They made the decent trades in 2021 to get Austin Riley, Jorge Soler, and Adam Duvall, and it turned out to be what they needed to win a championship.
Speaker: And here's the thing, they've been four, what is it, four straight years that they've been one and done in the postseason? Yep. Four straight years. Four straight years. This is a team that in 2023 should have been the team that went to the World Series had they not lost to the Phillies because, oh my God, the Dodgers got swept by the Diamondbacks.
Speaker: And it was like, you have basically free reign. it's It's anybody's game. It's basically yours for the taking. And you lay an egg against the Phillies. A Phillies team who, mind you, got reverse swept by the Diamondbacks. So that's another bad bad notion on that team. so And, you know, again, this is when Ronald Acuna had his historic year 2023, when it was the 40-70 year that everybody still remembers.
Speaker: They were with the top offense in baseball, and they were one and done. That season alone looks at looks at it and says... If Alex Anthopoulos does not get this together at some point in the next couple of years, and and I think Jonathan said this perfectly, if the Braves are one and done again, he needs to go.
Speaker: people be like A lot of people will be losing their jobs. Yeah. yeah yeah as the as one done If you're not doing right. Oops, I deleted them all. Why would you do that?
Speaker: but but Why would you do that? lovem trying to go here He knows here what knows you're trying to take over the show. So he's trying to get it. No, no, no. I'll get to the Canteen's comments. Shout out Canteen. Bottom line sports. Y'all turning with Canteen Float and Hot Rod. He's a Braves fan himself. He says the Braves must stay healthy to hit the pinnacle into the playoffs.
Speaker: um And he also asked a couple questions here. He says, first of all, as we move into the peak of the season, who is your sleeper team? So, does anybody have any sleeper teams? I think I already said it. It's the Boston Red Sox for me. It's the Red Sox for me for the way that they're playing right now and they have one of the best trade deadline moves of the season. So, it's the Red Sox for me. The Sox aren't a sleeper for me because there are 75, 76% chance of making the playoffs. So I would say the Cubs.
Speaker: I was going to say sleeper as in a potential playoff run. Yes, it's the Red Sox. Oh, OK. I was thinking of sleeper as in like sneaking into the playoffs. oh yeah I think they'll be a playoff team. I think they have a good chance to sleepily make make a run. i think they could be the best team in the American League. so Yeah. yes My sleeper team is... Go ahead. Oh, I'm sorry. ahead. Go. Is your sleeper team also the Red Sox? please please tell us it's the Red Sox. Please. he's definitely not. to Get the hell out of here with That would be great if you were like... The Seattle Mariners. Yes, the Seattle Mariners. That would show so much growth from you if you said the Red Sox were...
Speaker: I want to see AP upset. Right now, of today, looking at how they've been playing, I trust the Colorado Rockies more than I do the Seattle Mariners. I feel like- We could have a Cal Raleigh resurgence. We could have a Cal Raleigh resurgence. I feel like Omar should say the Rockies instead of the Mariners. I think it should be the Mariners for you, or the Rockies for you, Omar. I mean, at least the Mariners are playing better than your mids.
Speaker: Mm-hm. We're not going to give you three teams each because we've got to wrap this up and talk shit about my Mets. what are What's your one NL or AL team that you think will be at the peak, I think is what he means. He's saying that can peak, but that would be the same thing as a sleeper. So just give us your your top team right now in either the AL or the NL.
Speaker: I'm going to go with, and you can't choose the Dodgers, obviously. And we'll talk about them in a second. I'm going to go with, ah you know, going to go with the... I'm going to go with the Brewers right now. I'm going to go with the Brewers.
Speaker: I'm actually going to go with the Braves. Okay. I think they're starting to get hot again. that the pitching gets at the pitching can get better If the pitching can get better and get healthy, I think they'll be the best.
Speaker: I'm going to go in three in their last 10. Houston Astros eight and two in their last 10. Milwaukee Brewers five and five. But it's the Astros, who cares? And Houston Red Sox eight and two as well. No, I know. I'm going to go in a whole different direction. I'm going to go in a different direction.
Speaker: I think the Twins are my team that's going to end up peaking. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, they're six and four in their last ten. And then for the NL, ah o let's let's roll the dice on... See, I can't pick anyone in the NL Central.
Speaker: let's Let's roll the dice on the Marlins and see what they do. Interesting. Now they are getting healthy. They're getting, right away actually, did Otto Lopez get hurt recently? Is that something I heard? No, they wanted to, the Sox wanted to trade for Otto Lopez, but the Marlins said no.
Speaker: The Marlins said no. The Sox wanted to get Lopez. They wanted to get Eli Dela Cruz. Like, we were, after every shortstop, we were, there was a, there was, like, for 30 seconds, we were looking to trade for Bobby White. anybody but Trevor's story.
Speaker: Anybody but Trevor's story. anyone but Trevor Story. We wanted Trevor Story gone. And the only reason we're trying we were trying to get another shortstop is so that Franklin, ah but the Arias could have another year and and you know in the minors. That was it. um Yeah, I'm gonna go with the Marlins because the Pirates are 13 out and ah you know Omar's favorite, the Rockies are 24 um i'm gonna go with the marlins well let me sit on my mets real quick as always they still suck and made so many trades and my real issue with this is not with the trades that they made although i do felt that we had a very underwhelming return in terms of now we did get the number two prospect um you know for uh
Speaker: um for uh geez louise not luke weaver uh clay holmes and tyrone taylor from the cubs and we got the number nine uh prospect uh for luke weaver from the pirates and we got a couple other top 25s but honestly i thought we should have gotten more i was very disappointed in the return we have but more than that i didn't really care because it's a blown season anyway so it really cares the The more thing I'm thinking about when I'm looking at David Stearns and the trades that he made and how he's supposed to be some farm building aficionado expert. And I'm looking at the trades he made and i'm kind of just blah about it. And then on top of that as well, like, bro, this is your last ship. You ah will be fired if we don't get better. And right as of now, you're running it back with the same exact core next year that didn't perform well this year. So unless Soto and Lindor are going to stay healthy and go back to prior four, well, Soto's been playing fine all year. Lindor's the one that has not been playing well at all. um
Speaker: ah either as palantgo Neither neither has Simeon. Bichette just started picking it up and getting a little hot So you're relying on this same core of players that couldn't get it done this year. And unless everybody gets hot, I don't see why they will be able to compete with the teams that are really good now, especially one that we'll talk about in 2.5 seconds.
Speaker: So that's my problem with the Mets is that they're just going to run it back with the same exact core that they ran it back this year that didn't work. But anyway, essentially, yeah.
Speaker: Essentially, yeah. All right. Well, let's move it too high and you know, canteen. Canteen already brought it up. Google to the Dodgers. Yes, let's talk about it.
Speaker: Tarek Skubal, the Dodgers, the new evil empire, no longer the Yankees. It is now the Dodgers that pisses everybody off.
Speaker: Went out and got the best pitcher in the league when they already had an ultimately stacked rotation. And Amul, you sent this to me, so I'm going to just throw it up real quick.
Speaker: This is the infinity stones being added. ah Yeah. Yeah. um Yeah. As we can see. here And this is exactly what happened. This is what's happened.
Speaker: This is what has happened to baseball. They are just putting stones on top of stones. The best rotation in baseball going for a third straight championship. All for Dr. Doom to snap his spine.
Speaker: Oh, my God. you Hope so. Hope so. But as we talk about it, Tarek Skubal again is traded to the Dodgers. There were a lot of other teams out there, so we can't say like, oh, they no other teams had a chance to go out and get Tarek Skubal. The Dodgers didn't give up as much as a lot of people would have liked them to give up. So the Brewers had enough resources to beat that deal. The Rays had enough resources to beat that deal. But no one went out and did it.
Speaker: And all instead they're doing is complaining about it. I completely agree with what JG said with AP All-Wrecked Sports yesterday. Be mad. But if you're not doing anything about it to compete with it, That is the problem. Now they are going to go into the playoffs with the rotation of Yoshinibo Yamamoto, Blake Snell, who's a former Cy Young himself, Glass now.
Speaker: Tariq Skubal two times. how you And you don't even need Otani because you only got to run four pitchers deep in the playoffs. So they could have their best pitcher not pitching at all and just using his offensive skills. Again, this has brought so much angst.
Speaker: to the major leagues and AP we're going to come to you first because again I know JG had a lot on this yesterday i know you'll repeat some of his most important talking points for the people on this great channel so go ahead and talk to us about this Okay, first of all, Scoobo and his debut for the Dodgers, six innings, four hits, two earned runs a allowed, two walks, six strikeouts, and a home run given up by today in be Swanson.
Speaker: So, not it kind of iffy, but not too bad for a debut. ladies Ladies and gentlemen, this is not the Dodgers' fault. This is not the Dodgers' fault. They are acting within the rules and within the confines of the MLB legislation.
Speaker: This is the owner's fault. In fact, you talked about why no other teams wanted, went and made offers.
Speaker: The Tigers didn't talk to anybody but the Dodgers. They didn't talk to any other team what but the Dodgers. Wow.
Speaker: This has collusion written all over it. Why is this important? Because the the owners want a salary cap.
Speaker: Mm. The owners want a salary cap and the biggest example of them getting what they want is look at what's going on in LA right now.
Speaker: And it has so many people up in a storm saying, just go ahead and give them the salary cap because that's what we need. Guys, this is a distraction.
Speaker: This is a distraction for what the owners actually are trying to do. Salary cap, I get that. It would be nice. It would help baseball out a lot.
Speaker: But here's the thing. Read the fine print when you look at this offer that these fucking owners are trying to give out here. They want to cut the MLB draft in half.
Speaker: They want to make it to where no high school kid can be entered into the MLB draft. They have to go to college. That's crazy. They want to make that's mad they want take to make it to where they're cutting half of the minor league system.
Speaker: So it's cost people jobs, it costs people opportunities. Guys like who's tried to struggle to play to get into the league, they don't get an opportunity and it's all about money.
Speaker: It's always been about money. It's going to continue to be about money. It's never going to, it's not about a salary cap. They are trying to push this in the media. They are trying to push this out everywhere.
Speaker: This is not about a salary cap. This is about the owners wanting to make more in revenue over everybody else, over anything else.
Speaker: And because of the situation we had with Tony Clark as the president of the Players Association, how he fucked everything up,
Speaker: it is the that The players have no leg to stand on right now. The owners have control of everything. And essentially, if nothing gets agreed up upon in December, they're shutting they're shutting baseball down for a year.
Speaker: And now there's talks that this might continue into 2028. half we might not get baseball for a year and a half.
Speaker: I can't do it! get This is going to kill the game of baseball, especially for the casual fan. You will lose the casual fan. you And especially after all the building they've done up over the past years with the new rules. base Literally, you had the World Baseball Classic, which everybody loved. Everybody, casual fans, diehards, everybody loves the World Baseball Classic. It was, at some points, it was more popular than the World Cup this year.
Speaker: But because of their the greedy lying owners or controlling the MLB media right now and saying, oh, we want a salary cap, it's going to fix everything. And people are buying into this sauce that they're trying to sell.
Speaker: which they're not looking at the rest of the the deal, which says we're going to cut this in half. We're going to cut this in half. We're going to make sure you they want to use college baseball as a stepping stone, as part as a partial minor league stepping stone is basically what they're trying to do. We cut half our minor league system. We use college baseball to try to get these guys ready so we can best track them to Major League Baseball. It saves us money. It saves us time.
Speaker: That's all they want is money. And you know, it sucks because the two owners that are sweating this out right now, even though they're a part of this, are the A's owner, because they're about to move to Vegas, and the Rays owner, who can't fill a stadium, and are trying to get a new stadium.
Speaker: Come to Nashville, baby. Come to Nashville. This is not helping their cause whatsoever. And yet they're a part of the side that's trying to do this, so. Unfortunately, this is an owner problem.
Speaker: It's not a Dodger problem. I know everybody wants to talk about, well, they're going to have $1 billion dollars of deferred money. Guess what? Any and MLB team can do that. It's just some owners are too stupid to realize that they can do that.
Speaker: Looking a at you, Steve Cohen, looking at you, Henry. oh john henry John Henry, looking at you in New York there for the Yankees too. Cashman and Steinbrenners. Steinbrenners, looking everywhere basically. I get it. Some small market teams can't afford this. Here's the thing though.
Speaker: We've had 18 different World Series champions basically since the turn of the millennium. And a lot of these champions have been small market teams.
Speaker: The Arizona Diamondbacks, the Texas Rangers, the Washington national and Nationals. The San Francisco Giants were the last dynasty. They won three out of five.
Speaker: That's true. dar the li This is the sport that has the most parity. Screw what the NBA is doing right now. Baseball has the most parity. You see different champions every year.
Speaker: But because the Dodgers have won two in a row, everybody's panicking. This is not the Dodgers' fault. Yes, it looks bad. They're basically the villain right now. looks very good But here's the thing. Then this is the difference between the dot what the Dodgers did and what the Astros did.
Speaker: The Dodgers are playing within the confines of the rule book. The Astros hurt the integrity of the game. And that's a no-no. I can accept that.
Speaker: Yes. Are we mad at the Dodgers? Absolutely, because that's a stacked roster. But ultimately, if you want to put the blame on somebody, you have to put it on the MLB ownership group because they are allowing this to happen.
Speaker: Hmm. They are allowing the Dodgers to do this for their own benefit so that they can get a salary cap.
Speaker: Wow. Wow. What are your thoughts on that? huge news a signal the channel that's that's That's compelling. of So I'm not going to follow it up with my own. I'm going to follow it with my own thoughts, but mine perhaps won't be as compelling. i will say this.
Speaker: Before I think of the owners, I think of how Zidane Raffaella hit five home runs off the Los Angeles Dodgers. Five home runs that broke, literally broke the Dodgers and said, we're going to go out and get... Are saying that Raffaella's home runs have made them go out and get Tariq Skoogal? Is that what you're saying? I mean, if the shoe fits...
Speaker: okay If it's just as as as well as as Cinderella's glass slipper, my friend. By the way, the Cubs are up 4-1. Cubs are up 4-1 on the Dodgers right now. I mean, yes, what what AP is saying is absolutely correct.
Speaker: But from a psychological team standpoint, I'm looking. By the way, the pitchers that you named, Shohei, Glassnow, and Snell are injured.
Speaker: Otani is also injured. Right now, and they have eight. They're all scheduled to come back. Yeah, no, hear me out. No, hear me out. You said that in the playoffs they can only have four. They're going to have eight.
Speaker: They're going to Scoobl, they're going to have Yamamoto, Sasaki, Roboleski, and Lauer. And like in addition, yeah, so like they're going to have a whole other bullpen to go. And I mean, if you can do after the game, I know you're not tied in the same way I am with the Sox, but like people were distributing memes about how like the Dodgers bought the Red Sox because they felt like they could.
Speaker: um This is going to ruin this. is that if If this is going to go into 27, and 28, then we're just gonna pop up on your current affairs show, honestly.
Speaker: Because, you know, like, forget the fact that the bets won't be relevant until 2030, I'm sorry, my friend. But, you know, the- I mean, I don't know if it'll be that long.
Speaker: But, you know, the fact that that this is she going to be killing baseball the same way did during between 94 and 95. Like I remember being able to play baseball growing up like through the early 90s, mid 90s. And then once the once it, you know, it was done, that was it. Let's go on to something else. And the other thing I saw out of the Hartfield out of the Hartford Courier that Manfred
Speaker: the ah initially was trying to make the and MLB draft a lot like the and NBA draft, a lot like the NFL draft. You can't do that. you can't like The players that are coming out aren't as well known. You're not hyping them up in any sort of way.
Speaker: and you know, the owner said, all right, fine, we're going to try to cut it in half. I'm connecting some dots here because we just talked about this the last time when I mentioned that about the draft and about how they don't kind of have the star power because people don't want to show up. A, as you just mentioned, it's not ah a fan fest kind of star atmosphere.
Speaker: B, there's too many players in college baseball that you can't really focus on the best of the best and know who they are. C, there's also the ability of the players to back out because they don't want to upset a college team that they may have already committed to or vice versa.
Speaker: And now when I'm thinking that to myself and I'm listening to AP tell me about them wanting to get rid of the minor league system in favor of the college players, now it's starting to all connect. Like that lady with the meme and the fucking numbers running around and shit. If they cut...
Speaker: the minor leagues and move to a college, mostly college system as a feeder for the pros, then this allows them to feature the college players more, which will then allow them to substantiate something like an NFL draft or an NBA draft.
Speaker: So maybe that's even what they're aiming for. I don't know. I'm just you know that's just the math completely rewriting baseball as we know it yeah you're wanting it to try to be like the nfl which nobody can be like me in the nfl i'm sorry no and nobody can be like the the nfl nor the nba you know it's it's it's you know it's they're they're in their own lanes so i think manfred's taking I think Manfred and the owners are taking it a step too far.
Speaker: I love going to minor league games. In my humble opinion, I will say this, respectfully to to you and and to AP, it's more fun than going to a pro game. I will say that it is more going to minor league games, going to spring training far more fun than going to a pro game these days. I used to love going to the Prince William Cannons. Yeah. Yeah. We used to go to, uh, what is it? The Potomac Nationals when they were here.
Speaker: ah and, uh, I was at the Dayton Dragons when I was at work for it in Ohio, uh, and love that. Like I should send you, I'll send you both a video of that.
Speaker: They do this whole game of Thrones thing. if you win the game. It's hilarious to me. um And in our program a lot, we talk about the ju Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, who's one of the fun teams in the minor leagues. They need to save the minor leagues, in my opinion. I don't know how they're going to do that, but if they want to use college, they should also keep the minor somehow. But yeah, if if they if this punts us to 28, then we're just going to pop up on on your other shows, my friend. Because, I mean...
Speaker: What else? We can talk about other things as well. But if Manfred is going to be ruining baseball like this, like think of all the kids also who are out there who are trying to get in, trying to play baseball, but can't. That's another thing that I was talking. I was talking to a good friend of mine last week in Ohio about this, how he wanted to get his kid into baseball, but his coach sucks.
Speaker: And in soccer, what day well in soccer what they do is they put or in football in football what they do is they put the worst coaches at the at the highest level and the best coaches at the lowest level.
Speaker: And they reverse it here for all sports, for football, for um ah for baseball, for everything. So they really that exceptioning I didn't know that. Well, at least with baseball and football and soccer. yeah Yeah. All right. hot also this is a hot take, but the Dodgers farm system is overrated.
Speaker: and if i really if youre really If you really have the best farm system in all of baseball, then why is the last big name we remember coming out of this farm system Clayton Kershaw?
Speaker: I mean... yeah No, he's right. He's right. He's right. What was was your last biggest start to come out of your farm system from 2005? Because they trade all the good players that they build up in the farm system. That's why. Did you turn anybody from the Dodgers organization actually have a good career after they get traded? No. Well, look, right now they have the number. Right now I'm looking at the athletics top farm system and Los Angeles is number two after Milwaukee, who's number one. So, I mean, if everybody's still overrated, it's still overrated. I'm sorry. There's there's a video. There's a video that I came across from Shane Green.
Speaker: I guess he's retired now. but He said everyone's been talking about the Dodgers and how they're ruining baseball. when I was at the Dodgers for a short spell. And you can look, if you can look this up real quick, Omar, go right ahead. If not, it's okay. But ah he basically says, and he put this on his Instagram, that he basically says that ah they just do everything better. They scout better. They, you know, give you what you need to make sure that ah you can read, you can pitch, you know, you can throw the right pitches to the players that you're going to be facing.
Speaker: ah they make sure that they the it analyzing is better. Just just the the, what they do is better than every other team. So yeah I don't know.
Speaker: also but that's the thing, he wouldn't say he wouldn't say what that meant. He just said they're better. Like you can tell me all day that an Android is better than an iPhone or an iPhone is better than an Android. But if you don't give substantive facts behind that, all you're doing is just saying the same thing over and over again. You know what I mean?
Speaker: And that's what Shane Green was doing. So, I mean, i needed facts. Like, you can't just say the Dodgers are better or that their system is better. What do they do?
Speaker: i mean, at least they're teaching better defense than they are in New York right now. And that's both for the Mets and the Yankees because the Yankees' defense is awful. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. The Yankees' defense leaves a lot to be desired.
Speaker: Well, you know, um look. My opinion on the Dodgers will continue to be the same. This has not changed my opinion. i agree with JG in the fact that they are doing what is allowed within the rule books and what the Mets should be doing. That being said, it does kind of look a little sketchy when they're the only team doing it. So when you...
Speaker: look from the outside if you are a casual or just you know maybe someone wanting to get into baseball and you see that kind of corruption that could turn you away also you've got to think about other things like the women's professional baseball league that just got started this past week just had their first two games Monet Davis is their star there you'll remember her from playing with the boys in the Little League Baseball World Series um And so when you have things like that, girls getting more interested in baseball, casual fans coming back because you've implemented the new rules, made the game quicker, made it more exciting. And as AP said for you to just let this go all the way down the crapper just because you all want to make more money.
Speaker: And somehow, you know, because even looking at the return that they got back, and I put it on the screen earlier, but the three prospects they got back, again, just not good enough prospects for you to give away the best pitcher in the league. So the Dodgers continue to operate. Literally, the Brewers were going to give away number one, number two, and like another top ten.
Speaker: That's crazy. That's crazy. This can only be attributed to the same Mexican witchcraft, the brujería, that has kept Magic Johnson alive when they eliminated his AIDS. Okay?
Speaker: When you get the healing to eliminate AIDS out of your body, but you can live magical... How did turn this into a Magic Johnson AIDS tangent? I love Magic Johnson, but I just have to say, if you have the power to eliminate AIDS, you got the power to buy you some championships in Major League Baseball. I can't. I'm covering my face with a hat because I can't. I can't right now. I love you, Magic. Even though I'm shots firing on you, love it right now. my God.
Speaker: yeah well there's a reason why we say There's a reason why we say you can do anything because Magic made it. So, you know, there's a reason why we still say that. and I think I just completely threw out my voice doing that too.
Speaker: ah The Dodgers have thrown out everybody's voice from yelling at the screen because they're so pissed off. They're about to lose their fifth in a row. so yeah what yeah Yeah. I expect to see. Bottom bottom and bottom of the eighth, Cubs are up 5-1.
Speaker: i wonder I wonder how that's going to affect a life tomorrow in LA. I how people are going to, like, honestly. Oh, oh this is this is, this is, it's basically the the Patriot mentality where they're like, oh, this is just preseason, or the Chiefs mentality. Oh, this is just preseason for when we Apparently they didn't even know that they got scoobled. When people, right before people were leaving in Dodger Stadium, no one knew. And then like at the very last minute, I guess, some people said we got scoobled. You know, someone started leading that chant.
Speaker: You know but yeah what? i hope I hope the same thing happens to them that happened in 2023 where they got swept by the Diamondbacks. Yes, I am hoping the same Mexican witch, I hope she puts her brujaria on them to lose this time around, but I don't expect it. Instead, I expect her to do more healing on Magic Johnson. So in the World Series, when they win a third time in a row, he does the Jeffrey Yarn.
Speaker: Again with the Magic Johnson, Jesus. Look at this. Look at this guy. He and the Mets traded for him, and I can't wait until Bo Bichette wears one on the head because this guy decides to do this stupid shit. All right, bro? Come on. This ain't going to work in the major leagues.
Speaker: I'm going need you to cut that out, buddy, okay? Don't bring that to New York. You're going get somebody killed. All right, anyways, we hope you have enjoyed the program today. What an amazing show that was. i appreciate my brothers for joining me.
