Unboxing Excitement and Daily Struggles
00:00:07
Speaker
Thanks for tuning in to the Loser Kid Pinball Podcast.
00:00:09
Speaker
This is episode 74 with me, my co-captain as always.
00:00:15
Speaker
And Scott, you know what?
00:00:17
Speaker
We always talk about our sponsor, but I thought, why don't we actually have him on and he can talk about himself.
00:00:24
Speaker
And he can talk about buying machines from him.
00:00:30
Speaker
Okay, I do have a quick update, though.
00:00:32
Speaker
I did update, I did unbox Iron Maiden and Beatles that I got from Zach and Nicole at Flippin' Out Pinball.
00:00:39
Speaker
And, oh my gosh, that game is awesome.
00:00:42
Speaker
Like I probably one of the three people on the planet that like Iron Maiden, the music.
00:00:48
Speaker
And so it totally works for me.
00:00:52
Speaker
If you want to get one of these, make sure you get on the list because they are back ordered.
00:00:58
Speaker
So now bring it out.
00:01:02
Speaker
I thought I heard somebody say bye, bye, bye.
00:01:04
Speaker
Congratulations, Scott, for opening up those two beauties.
00:01:07
Speaker
And Josh, my man, it's good to see you.
00:01:10
Speaker
It's good to see you, too.
00:01:11
Speaker
You don't have your camera on.
00:01:12
Speaker
You must not be wearing pants or something for us tonight.
00:01:14
Speaker
I got to tell you guys, I am tired.
00:01:16
Speaker
I woke up at 5 a.m.
00:01:17
Speaker
to go record with the Greg Bone, the one and only.
00:01:20
Speaker
And then I had a couple of deliveries.
00:01:22
Speaker
I got two machines up and downstairs today.
00:01:25
Speaker
So I'm not looking my freshest.
Healthcare Adventures and Milestones
00:01:28
Speaker
Okay, well, I'm gonna one up you a little bit.
00:01:31
Speaker
I did two hearts and then we did emergency heart.
00:01:33
Speaker
And so I've been up for 24 hours and then I had a honey do's today.
00:01:38
Speaker
So I may be a little punchy today.
00:01:42
Speaker
I save people's lives.
00:01:44
Speaker
I did three hearts really technically.
00:01:46
Speaker
So three, an emergency one too.
00:01:48
Speaker
Isn't every heart an emergency?
00:01:53
Speaker
Your tickers, it'll last for a couple hours.
00:01:59
Speaker
No, it actually like it's they're very interesting cases.
00:02:03
Speaker
And then for the first two, that's just a normal day.
00:02:06
Speaker
But then someone came in and their aorta was dissecting, which is when it starts exploding.
00:02:12
Speaker
And so it needs to be fixed very quickly.
00:02:13
Speaker
Otherwise, they will pass on.
00:02:15
Speaker
So, wow, that was the fun stuff from the rest of the pinball community.
00:02:21
Speaker
And thank you, Scott, for all that all that you do in the health care industry.
00:02:25
Speaker
Okay, actually, to be blunt, it's a privilege.
00:02:29
Speaker
There are things that are super stressful about it, especially in the summer, but I do love it.
00:02:33
Speaker
But okay, that was a downer.
00:02:36
Speaker
Let's buy some pinballs.
00:02:39
Speaker
I mean, we could buy pinball machines or you guys, I was thinking to myself since you oftentimes have on Keith Elwin and he is the go to pinball playing.
00:02:47
Speaker
He's the, he's the go to pinball design at this point, but he has yet to surpass myself as being the goat of cameo and guest appearances here on the loser kid pinball podcast.
00:02:58
Speaker
In a fashion of, I don't need to sell you guys things.
00:03:01
Speaker
I would like to give away stuff as a celebration.
00:03:04
Speaker
What do you guys think about that?
00:03:05
Speaker
Can we give away some stuff today?
00:03:09
Speaker
And especially because I know you two know this, but audience, this is our, we are now over 100,000 listens under three years.
00:03:22
Speaker
And so we're like, you know what?
00:03:23
Speaker
It was Zach Manning and Martin Robbins that said, hey, you guys should keep doing this.
00:03:28
Speaker
So I figured it'd only be appropriate to have one of them on.
00:03:31
Speaker
And Martin said no.
00:03:32
Speaker
So we went with Zach.
00:03:34
Speaker
Yeah, well, Martin killed me.
00:03:35
Speaker
He threw me over the boat.
00:03:38
Speaker
He's shark food to me.
00:03:41
Speaker
So what's the word I'm looking for?
00:03:46
Speaker
Celebration, honor.
00:03:47
Speaker
Not celebration or honor.
00:03:51
Speaker
Celebrate 100K, baby.
00:03:53
Speaker
Yeah, 100K by Christmas, right?
00:03:56
Speaker
Yeah, let's give away some stuff.
00:03:58
Speaker
I'm excited for this.
00:03:59
Speaker
What you got for us, Zach?
00:04:01
Speaker
So I thought, well, we could give away one thing or because you both are two beautiful people, why not give away two things today on the Loser Kid Pinball Podcast?
00:04:11
Speaker
Your video modder must be obviously turned off.
00:04:15
Speaker
It's like a fresh shave there, Scott.
00:04:19
Speaker
Well, for being up 24 hours and saving people's lives.
00:04:24
Speaker
I thought we could give away everybody's gloating and loving on their Godzillas.
00:04:29
Speaker
And not everybody has Godzillas.
00:04:31
Speaker
You're giving away a Godzilla on our show right now.
00:04:35
Speaker
I'm not the pin side secret Santa.
00:04:40
Speaker
Was that real by the way?
00:04:41
Speaker
If that was real, we can get into that.
00:04:43
Speaker
That was my gosh, totally real and generous and beautiful.
00:04:47
Speaker
I thought that was a joke, but okay, go ahead.
00:04:50
Speaker
So I cannot give away pinball machines.
00:04:53
Speaker
I have four kids to feed.
00:04:54
Speaker
But I thought, why not?
00:04:56
Speaker
Everybody loves Mandalorian.
00:04:57
Speaker
Why not give away not only a awesome Mandalorian commemorative Stern banner, which are, I mean, come on, those things are hard to get.
00:05:07
Speaker
Unless you know the right people contact me.
00:05:10
Speaker
Or, or and, not or, and here on Loser Kid, why don't we give away a Mandalorian Translight too?
00:05:20
Speaker
I think the best way to give these things away, how can we help support these 100K fellas?
Media Recognition and Roles in Pinball
00:05:27
Speaker
I think what people should have to do is take the link to this episode right here or the post that you guys have on social media and just share it.
00:05:36
Speaker
That's all they got to do.
00:05:37
Speaker
Share it on their social.
00:05:39
Speaker
And then if they just send you a little photo evidence to your email at...
00:05:45
Speaker
loser kid pinball podcast at gmail.com then maybe in a week or so you will randomly draw two winners to win a banner of mandalorian as well as a trans light it doesn't get much easier than that you know i'm gonna do the uh the 80s slow clap right now because that is impressive my friend see why don't we do it oh captain my captain
00:06:09
Speaker
So yeah, so free stuff here on Loser Kid because I don't know.
00:06:13
Speaker
You guys are one of my favorite podcasts.
00:06:15
Speaker
Please don't quit.
00:06:18
Speaker
I don't have a life outside of this other than my day job.
00:06:21
Speaker
So this is my fun job.
00:06:22
Speaker
So this is my fun job and my day job.
00:06:28
Speaker
Dude, I still don't know how you do it, Zach.
00:06:30
Speaker
We were there at Expo.
00:06:31
Speaker
We came and shook your hand and you're like, I got to go take calls now.
00:06:34
Speaker
It was just like, I got to go.
00:06:38
Speaker
It's crazy, but it's fun.
00:06:42
Speaker
That is really, really nice, by the way.
00:06:45
Speaker
And Zach is actually putting his own material up for this.
00:06:48
Speaker
And so we really appreciate that.
00:06:51
Speaker
Let's keep Zach in the number one position.
00:06:53
Speaker
Let's see if we can out outpace his previous record and see if we can share more and more.
00:07:00
Speaker
And, you know, if we, if we keep getting those numbers, big listeners, you know, I'll, I'll reach out to Mr. Elwin and I'll at least give him some advice or some tips on next time he appears on the loser kid, pinball podcast, how he can up his numbers.
00:07:13
Speaker
You got to admit, you were kind of scared a little bit there when Godzilla came out because that episode was blowing up a quick.
00:07:20
Speaker
It was monster and I was very scared.
00:07:25
Speaker
Came in within what, 200 I think is what?
00:07:27
Speaker
It was really close.
00:07:28
Speaker
Yeah, it was really close.
00:07:28
Speaker
It's pretty close.
00:07:29
Speaker
Oh, who's counting?
00:07:30
Speaker
No, it's a landslide.
00:07:36
Speaker
Well, we really appreciate you coming on, Zach.
00:07:39
Speaker
We know that you're a very busy man, and so you don't do these very often.
00:07:43
Speaker
You never guest on other shows, right?
00:07:46
Speaker
Not often, no, never.
00:07:48
Speaker
And so we appreciate you coming on, and let's get into some news.
00:07:53
Speaker
I know there's been a ton of it, right?
00:07:58
Speaker
We're going to start off.
00:07:59
Speaker
Well, we just talked about the 100,000.
00:08:01
Speaker
That's the first thing on our notes.
00:08:03
Speaker
Let's scroll down next to this.
00:08:04
Speaker
We've got Twippies.
00:08:05
Speaker
Pre-voting is going on.
00:08:07
Speaker
Honestly, by the time you hear this, it's probably going to be over with.
00:08:11
Speaker
So go ahead and hop in your time machine.
00:08:19
Speaker
Put your name in, you know, vote for, you know, vote for Zach and Dennis.
00:08:25
Speaker
Vote for, you know, vote for whoever you want.
00:08:27
Speaker
Vote for Josh and me.
00:08:29
Speaker
Just for Loser Kids.
00:08:31
Speaker
I want to see if we get slap saved again this year.
00:08:34
Speaker
We should get Silver Ball in there too.
00:08:39
Speaker
I think Triple Drain takes it.
00:08:43
Speaker
They're coming on strong, fellas.
00:08:44
Speaker
They are coming on strong.
00:08:47
Speaker
So anyway, go ahead and put some support out there.
00:08:51
Speaker
Yeah, I think you can go to thisweekinpenball.com.
00:08:54
Speaker
Yeah, something like that.
00:08:56
Speaker
That's the Twippy plug for the year.
00:08:59
Speaker
And we won't know the results until January 1st.
00:09:02
Speaker
That brings me to another question, though.
00:09:03
Speaker
Maybe you can't share secrets with us yet, Zach.
00:09:06
Speaker
What do you want to know?
00:09:07
Speaker
Are you thinking pinball industry awards again?
00:09:13
Speaker
The people want to know.
00:09:14
Speaker
That's deep and dark.
00:09:17
Speaker
Yeah, I'll give you a little behind-the-scenes action if you guys want it.
00:09:23
Speaker
I, yeah, the pinball industry awards are going on.
00:09:27
Speaker
I don't want to give away too much information.
00:09:30
Speaker
So we're going to see the crystals again this year.
00:09:32
Speaker
And they usually do them end of January.
00:09:36
Speaker
Yes, I believe so.
00:09:38
Speaker
I can say here on your show, I haven't talked about it yet.
00:09:42
Speaker
I'm not going to be a part of the crystals this coming year.
00:09:46
Speaker
So that's fresh news.
00:09:49
Speaker
I am taking a step back.
00:09:50
Speaker
step back from the crystals and I will not be a part of it for better or worse.
00:09:56
Speaker
Even in hosting, you and Greg doing the hosting thing again?
00:09:59
Speaker
At this point, absolutely nothing.
00:10:02
Speaker
Absolutely nothing.
00:10:03
Speaker
And it's a bit bittersweet for me.
00:10:06
Speaker
I love to create and be a part of some say control.
00:10:14
Speaker
I have a strong vision on how things work.
00:10:17
Speaker
could be and to the best of my ability I put everything into what I do and if a I don't feel like I can do that or b it is counter to what the rest of my team feels then you know something's got to give and I felt like it might be best for me maybe just to take a year off from any awards I don't blame you
00:10:41
Speaker
Sometimes you get overextended.
00:10:43
Speaker
I know that I felt that in life and at work and even in home.
00:10:47
Speaker
And so I've tried to narrow things down to the things that I need to focus on most.
00:10:52
Speaker
You even had to operate on someone at work that was overextended?
00:10:57
Speaker
It's just, I mean, I, you guys both work extremely hard.
00:11:02
Speaker
So it's, it's hard to put this to any level that you guys are doing stuff, but it's a, it's a ton of work.
00:11:09
Speaker
Financially, it's, you know, it's a lot of resources there and, um,
00:11:13
Speaker
not to, I mean, it's late so I can be real.
00:11:15
Speaker
I don't have to be too wacky.
00:11:16
Speaker
Like I've learned over the last three, four or five years in media guys that for some reason, um, whenever I help create something or something new to this industry, I can be a bit dichotomous on the reception.
00:11:33
Speaker
And I've, I've realized that even if I'm part of a team and trying to help and I have the best and purest intentions, I'm
00:11:41
Speaker
it doesn't always get received that way.
00:11:43
Speaker
So I feel like sometimes I'm the weakest link by trying to be the strongest link.
00:11:49
Speaker
So it just, it sucks.
00:11:52
Speaker
But sometimes if I put my name on something, people have these preconceived ideas and notions about them and
00:11:59
Speaker
I'm tired of collateral damage happening to the people I care about in this industry because of it.
00:12:04
Speaker
So, and that's not, not nothing specific.
00:12:07
Speaker
It's just, it seems like every darn time, you know, I try something is like, oh, well, so I'm like, yeah, let's just take a year off, sit in the stands and root on everybody that's producing, editing and directing and hosting these things.
00:12:21
Speaker
No, Hey, best of luck to everybody.
00:12:23
Speaker
And it certainly is.
00:12:24
Speaker
It's nice to take a mental step, uh, step back every once in a while.
00:12:28
Speaker
And so, uh, good for you.
00:12:30
Speaker
Uh, I think it's, it's hard to recognize that and actually take that step in, um, in your personal life because everybody who is, um, driven is trying to create things.
00:12:40
Speaker
And sometimes it is hard.
00:12:41
Speaker
It's hard to just to say, you know, I'm going to, I'm going to take a time out for a bit.
00:12:46
Speaker
Yeah, I'll be there in the stands rooting on the Crystals because it's my baby.
00:12:51
Speaker
I'll be rooting on the Twippies because I feel like it's still my baby.
00:12:55
Speaker
Regardless of what I've been through in the past with these groups, I think the world of what they're doing and pushing pinball forward in a positive manner.
00:13:04
Speaker
And I want nothing more than to see everyone succeed in them.
00:13:07
Speaker
So I'll be in the front row.
00:13:11
Speaker
So the real question is, are you going to allow TPN?
00:13:13
Speaker
I guess you don't know, but are you going to let TPN maybe win the awards?
00:13:17
Speaker
Because let's be honest.
00:13:19
Speaker
Like, I know these guys will never take credit for this, but the best hands
Controversies and Challenges in Media Awards
00:13:24
Speaker
down episode ever in pinball history, in my opinion, was
00:13:28
Speaker
is the final round reach around awards episode.
00:13:32
Speaker
That show was insane.
00:13:34
Speaker
It was impressive.
00:13:36
Speaker
Anytime you can have Roger Sharp on there talking about the special award, it's, it's a cringe worthy and awesome at the same time.
00:13:44
Speaker
When you can get the main singer of bare naked ladies to write custom songs for your award show.
00:13:51
Speaker
You know, you got Mark Silk on there that was doing the announcing that that whole script of that show was amazing.
00:13:58
Speaker
And I think they deserve some kind of recognition just for that.
00:14:02
Speaker
And I know that they'll probably do reach rounds again this year.
00:14:05
Speaker
I don't know how they're going to top it.
00:14:06
Speaker
But seriously, they deserve an award of some sort, in my opinion.
00:14:10
Speaker
without a doubt, and just the individuals of Jeff Teal and Martin Robbins alone and how much they brought to this industry, much less media, yes, specific recognition would be nice from some entity in the future.
00:14:25
Speaker
It's hard to top that.
00:14:27
Speaker
I will say it is tough, though, creating these awards because, I mean, let's rewind and go to the way back here, fellas.
00:14:36
Speaker
four years ago, the only resemblance of an awards we had was in written form, or maybe it was in a, an older school banquet type of form in an expo where you get a plaque at a buffet.
00:14:51
Speaker
Media is changing in pinball and not to jump on it too much because a lot of people are bored with media talk, but it's something I'm passionate about and something we're doing currently.
00:15:00
Speaker
So media has become more dynamic over the last three to four years, in my opinion.
00:15:05
Speaker
And with that has come more media opportunities like the Twippies or like the Crystals.
00:15:12
Speaker
But it's very tough because as an example of what I was referring to earlier, you start something
00:15:18
Speaker
that's a positive thing, a different spin on, you know, Twippy's being a people's choice award, uh, where the crystals and the PIAs were more of a, a specific group committee selecting.
00:15:31
Speaker
Uh, so it was, it was serving two, serving two things.
00:15:34
Speaker
And the minute we announced that we get, you're creating it just to give yourself awards.
00:15:40
Speaker
It, it, you know, it kills a lot of that enthusiasm for you.
00:15:44
Speaker
Uh, but we proved that no, we're actually decent human beings and we're trying to be a positive community.
00:15:51
Speaker
Uh, so this year, I, I don't know.
00:15:53
Speaker
I fought last year.
00:15:54
Speaker
I'm going to be completely honest and transparent with your listeners here.
00:15:58
Speaker
I was almost appalled, uh, to the degree that some of the work that was coming out of the pinball network at that time, um,
00:16:10
Speaker
We were holding them back just because we didn't want to appear biased.
00:16:15
Speaker
I won't curse on this program, but that's a bunch of crap.
00:16:22
Speaker
And I was the only one arguing against it.
00:16:25
Speaker
And they were being humble.
00:16:26
Speaker
But facts are facts.
00:16:29
Speaker
And if something is good, it should be recognized.
00:16:35
Speaker
I do understand the apparent conflict of interest and recusing yourself, but that is challenging.
00:16:41
Speaker
It's challenging because you're trying to do something positive, but when you're also a content creator and you're nervous about putting yourself in the mix, then it's mixed blessing, I guess.
00:16:54
Speaker
So I certainly appreciate what you guys did last year, and I appreciate that we got the award last year.
00:17:00
Speaker
But, um, but, uh, it really does it to make sure that everybody gets the recognition they need.
00:17:08
Speaker
It's a, you're walking a tight rope there and that's, that's always going to get some criticism.
00:17:13
Speaker
And you know what I was pushing for the puppet pals.
00:17:15
Speaker
That's what I was pushing.
00:17:16
Speaker
Like, I was like, what, how are we not going to recognize the puppet pals?
00:17:20
Speaker
This is, this is artistry and genius to a level that this industry has never seen.
00:17:25
Speaker
And just because they're puppets, we can't, we can't recognize.
00:17:30
Speaker
Oh guys, this is silly.
00:17:32
Speaker
Every time I hear the puppet pals, I feel like someone slipped me some sort of drug because I'm not exact.
00:17:39
Speaker
It seems like an alternative universe.
00:17:42
Speaker
But then that's coming from the guy that doesn't link Back to the Future either.
00:17:45
Speaker
Okay, I thought the first movie was fine.
00:17:49
Speaker
Just the second and third were terrible.
00:17:52
Speaker
I did feel a little dirty after that Puppet Pals with the creepy clown dude.
00:17:56
Speaker
That was like... They end up keeping moppy or mouthy or... It's from the mind of a deranged individual for certain.
00:18:07
Speaker
But it's a, it's a lot of fun, a lot of fun over at TPN.
00:18:10
Speaker
We're having a blast and only bigger and better things coming very soon.
00:18:15
Speaker
We did recommend to the Puppet Pals, though, that the next pinball relic could be somewhere stashed away at Deep Root with Big Mouth Bobby Mueller.
00:18:26
Speaker
It would make for great content, I think.
00:18:29
Speaker
Is step one, get past the guard who's paid by the SEC to make sure he doesn't rip off more little old ladies?
00:18:35
Speaker
Yeah, they're going to be going to the impound for that relic.
00:18:39
Speaker
I heard you made him Mr. Popularity in jail, Scott, because you gave him that medical grade lubricant.
00:18:44
Speaker
All the people love him.
00:18:45
Speaker
Hey, this is a PG podcast, my friend.
00:18:48
Speaker
I don't know what PG means out in Vernal, but man, you're taking a blue very quickly.
00:18:54
Speaker
Hey, you guys are implying.
00:18:55
Speaker
I'm just saying that you sent him a gift basket.
00:19:01
Speaker
See what I do to these shows?
00:19:04
Speaker
Take it down a notch.
00:19:08
Speaker
Immediately becomes R-rated.
00:19:10
Speaker
So the Twippies are going on live at TPF this year, are they not?
00:19:15
Speaker
I believe they are, yeah.
00:19:16
Speaker
That's what I was told.
00:19:17
Speaker
You don't know who the hosts are, though.
00:19:19
Speaker
I don't, actually.
00:19:22
Speaker
You know, Patterson, hey, Scott and I are going to be there.
00:19:25
Speaker
You know, we still have our outfits that we bought for two years ago.
00:19:32
Speaker
Please tell me we're going to dress up as the dumb and dumber characters.
00:19:35
Speaker
Like a light blue suit.
00:19:37
Speaker
Yes, I actually I had those at Expo.
00:19:40
Speaker
I brought them and Josh is the buzzkill.
00:19:43
Speaker
Josh did not want to dress those up for the the pinball Olympics.
00:19:47
Speaker
I didn't feel appropriate at that time.
00:19:49
Speaker
I didn't know what we were watching.
00:19:50
Speaker
Appropriate it's Halloween.
00:19:51
Speaker
What's wrong with you?
00:19:53
Speaker
Oh, that's terrific.
00:19:54
Speaker
I think hosting-wise, we'll hopefully hear from the Twippies here soon.
00:19:59
Speaker
There may be some format changes for the Crystals, so stay tuned for that.
00:20:04
Speaker
If I were to guess Twippies-wise, I would think Emoto's going to host it again, probably Jack Danger, I would guess.
00:20:10
Speaker
Sounds about right.
00:20:14
Speaker
Let's move on to our next note.
Pinball Releases and Future Speculations
00:20:16
Speaker
You know, we talked about this back in April.
00:20:18
Speaker
Uh, we talked about a winter curse with Stern.
00:20:21
Speaker
It seems like, yeah.
00:20:24
Speaker
And it seems like whatever title ends up in that December, January, February month usually doesn't do as great as the other months.
00:20:35
Speaker
I mean, case in point, the last couple of years where we had Stranger Things, which has come into its own afterwards.
00:20:41
Speaker
It had a boomerang effect, absolutely.
00:20:43
Speaker
Yes, but when it did not, it was flat-footed as soon as it showed.
00:20:48
Speaker
And we had Led Zeppelin this past year.
00:20:52
Speaker
And so you can trace it back, but I want to know, do you think...
00:20:58
Speaker
Borg is going to break the winter curse or is there even going to be such a thing because pinball so exploding right now that it doesn't matter what comes out from Stern.
00:21:06
Speaker
It's going to sell.
00:21:09
Speaker
And go ahead, Zach, you go first.
00:21:11
Speaker
I would first, first off, this is the loser kid winter curse.
00:21:19
Speaker
We had Led Zeppelin last year in the previous year, stranger things.
00:21:22
Speaker
Nobody listened to me about how great that pen was, whatever.
00:21:25
Speaker
You'll learn soon enough.
00:21:26
Speaker
And then they're eating crow now, right?
00:21:28
Speaker
They're eating crow.
00:21:29
Speaker
And they're paying $13,000 for a, for a premium.
00:21:34
Speaker
Munsters the year before the Beatles who's measure, right?
00:21:38
Speaker
So the winter curse, what?
00:21:41
Speaker
I think that maybe you're onto something.
00:21:46
Speaker
The etiology of this, I don't know, but there seems to be a correlation here.
00:21:52
Speaker
Now, what are we measuring in the winter curse?
00:21:54
Speaker
Are we measuring, uh, are we measuring the feedback that hobbyists are giving about the way this game is, or are we measuring sales?
00:22:05
Speaker
I would actually do a mix of those, but I would say how readily available is it for purchase?
00:22:14
Speaker
Because for a while... The curse is over.
00:22:19
Speaker
But okay, so let's take the COVID out of it.
00:22:22
Speaker
But for a while, with all of those others, there really wasn't much of a wait.
00:22:27
Speaker
If you wanted one, you could get one readily.
00:22:31
Speaker
But this may be a little bit of an outlier because Stern could definitely produce Laundry Day right now and it would be backordered.
00:22:41
Speaker
Just because right now, yeah, exactly.
00:22:45
Speaker
And you strap a slap or a sticker on it and make it pinball, then absolutely right now.
00:22:51
Speaker
So this year may be an anomaly just because of supply issues.
00:22:56
Speaker
And I agree with Scott.
00:22:57
Speaker
I think a combination of numbers and of reception.
00:23:01
Speaker
And case in point, I got to think about this the other day.
00:23:04
Speaker
You know, Beatles is a fun game, but I would say that the sales weren't there.
00:23:09
Speaker
And the reason being is because they only made 1,966 of them.
00:23:13
Speaker
And they thought they were all produced, yet they just ran another order.
00:23:17
Speaker
So either they weren't all produced and they were just going to leave it at what it was.
00:23:22
Speaker
And then they saw some kind of reception down the road and was like, we're just going to throw this out there.
00:23:25
Speaker
But I mean, look at Godzilla.
00:23:27
Speaker
They bumped up the limited edition numbers to a thousand and those were gone like hotcakes in the first what?
00:23:33
Speaker
let's be generous, 24 hours?
00:23:36
Speaker
It probably wasn't even that.
00:23:38
Speaker
And Josh, what you're saying is, I think it's fair to say that the Beatles was not a strong seller throughout the production of that.
00:23:48
Speaker
Maybe that's the response they were expecting with, you know, the features and the price of that game.
00:23:54
Speaker
But I think it's fair to say as a dealer, the Beatles was not a super seller like a Jurassic Park was.
00:24:03
Speaker
Same with the, I mean, Munsters was actually a good seller.
00:24:07
Speaker
Believe it or not.
00:24:07
Speaker
Munsters, Munsters did well, but people still ask for Munsters.
00:24:11
Speaker
It's that nostalgia.
00:24:12
Speaker
Stranger Things did not do as well.
00:24:17
Speaker
But by the time they probably relinquished the agreement and license, people started wanting it against that whole Pirates of the Caribbean effect.
00:24:27
Speaker
And then Led Zeppelin has been a mixed, mixed bag.
00:24:30
Speaker
Yeah, it's, I mean, I own Led Zeppelin and it's mixed for me too.
00:24:38
Speaker
You know, I blare the soundtrack and I have a good time with it, but I do understand why people say it's not their favorite game because of this or that.
00:24:48
Speaker
But man, it's a fun game to rock out to.
00:24:52
Speaker
So we're assuming that this winter there's going to be a release by John Borg.
00:24:57
Speaker
If you look at, if you look at the schedule,
00:25:00
Speaker
You know, Elwin just did his right before that was Eddie.
00:25:04
Speaker
Jack Danger, who was only contracted for one game that we know of.
00:25:10
Speaker
Oh, he's doing a cornerstone.
00:25:15
Speaker
But he so he just produced a game.
00:25:18
Speaker
So really, what does that leave out of the rest of the designers that leaves Borg?
00:25:22
Speaker
So in Borg's last one was Turtles.
00:25:24
Speaker
So, yeah, I think you might be right.
00:25:27
Speaker
It feels feels Borgie.
00:25:30
Speaker
So we do Borg and the hypothetical or the rumored, my air quotes, Rush, which was accidentally shown the artwork in the Godzilla prototype.
00:25:43
Speaker
The alleged artwork.
00:25:48
Speaker
Unless that's an epic troll, which would be awesome, by the way.
00:25:51
Speaker
Which would be something Stern would do.
00:25:54
Speaker
They get their kicks off of little things like that.
00:25:56
Speaker
I can tell you that much.
00:25:59
Speaker
But okay, so let's say hypothetically, if it is a rumored rush with Borg, what type of reception do you think we'll get from that license alone?
00:26:10
Speaker
Just license alone.
00:26:11
Speaker
Okay, the dad rock crowd.
00:26:13
Speaker
Basically, my generation, I'm probably on the young side for a Rush fan, even though I have followed Rush my entire life because my brother was into it.
00:26:24
Speaker
And so I think that you're going to get the people who are probably the 50 to 70 type, kind of similar to like the Aerosmith or Led Zeppelin era.
00:26:35
Speaker
And I think it will actually sell fairly well because of that nostalgic attachment, as long as there is a good play field associated with it.
00:26:47
Speaker
Outside of that core group, though, unless it's something like transcendent, like Iron Maiden, you're not going to sell the numbers Iron Maiden did without an amazing play field.
00:27:01
Speaker
Like the theme is not going to sell that.
00:27:04
Speaker
So if you have a similar thing with Rush, I think you can find that magic to be able to sell it, to have a theme that people really connect to and a play out that is is aside from the theme.
00:27:19
Speaker
That's what made Iron Maiden so distinct.
00:27:24
Speaker
Would you rather play a game that has music by Iron Maiden or music by Led Zeppelin?
00:27:32
Speaker
And that connects more, but people vastly prefer the layout of Iron Maiden, which is why it's harder to get an Iron Maiden than it is to get a Led Zeppelin on the secondary market.
00:27:42
Speaker
We know that John Borg has done music pins in the past.
00:27:47
Speaker
I mean, he gave us Aerosmith.
00:27:49
Speaker
How do you guys feel about that?
00:27:50
Speaker
He gave us Metallica.
00:27:53
Speaker
Did he give us a kiss?
00:27:55
Speaker
Didn't he do a kiss?
00:27:56
Speaker
I think you're right.
00:27:56
Speaker
Yeah, he gave us a kiss.
00:27:57
Speaker
Yeah, because Aerosmith was kind of like Kiss 2.0.
00:27:59
Speaker
He's done music pins.
00:28:06
Speaker
He can be a little hit or miss when it comes to the magic that attracts me, though.
00:28:14
Speaker
I thought I like turtles.
00:28:17
Speaker
I thought the rules and the, you know, the voices were great.
00:28:20
Speaker
I marked it an awesome job on that and everything.
00:28:23
Speaker
It but it wasn't a long laster for me, which kind of surprised me.
00:28:28
Speaker
So I I have a Tron right now.
00:28:33
Speaker
And it's a very fun game.
00:28:35
Speaker
And it has that Borg magic.
00:28:37
Speaker
But it's a different... Borg has a different style than the other people.
00:28:42
Speaker
He tends to have that fast style, which is why it works really well for Metallica.
00:28:46
Speaker
It worked really well for Tron.
00:28:50
Speaker
It has been a miss on a few of them.
00:28:52
Speaker
But I still think it's always been a... He's always hit that mark.
00:28:58
Speaker
But I don't know, Josh, are you... What's your thought on that?
00:29:02
Speaker
I really think that there are a handful of people out there that are really excited for this title.
00:29:08
Speaker
And Borg does have... He is unique, but I feel like you get kind of a general idea of what he's going to release.
00:29:18
Speaker
I really think it just comes down to play field, whether this is going to be received really well and, and who's on code.
00:29:25
Speaker
Um, Dwight was with Eddie, so I don't think Dwight's going to be with him with, uh, Borg on rush.
00:29:32
Speaker
So I, I would assume we're going to seem like Tim Sexton, maybe Raymond Davidson.
00:29:38
Speaker
Um, so I think it's whatever they come up with.
00:29:41
Speaker
What about having Tanya?
00:29:42
Speaker
He hasn't done one since Deadpool.
00:29:44
Speaker
I think Tanya is still working on the connectivity.
00:29:48
Speaker
I think that's what, that would be my guess.
00:29:51
Speaker
I think, who am I shouting out?
00:29:53
Speaker
Just another pinball podcast had on George and Tanya.
00:29:56
Speaker
And George and Tanya did say that Tanya is working on a cornerstone title in the future.
00:30:04
Speaker
Maybe not this near future, given the insider connected stuff.
00:30:08
Speaker
But what about Lonnie?
00:30:11
Speaker
Yeah, Lonnie would be great.
00:30:13
Speaker
Well, and more and more it seems like it's not just one coder.
00:30:17
Speaker
There might be one with just the code.
00:30:20
Speaker
Like, wait, Dwight comes up with most of the code, but then there's multiple coders helping him to finish the product.
00:30:25
Speaker
Yeah, there's an architect, and then there's the code team, I guess.
00:30:31
Speaker
So that's who takes the lead on that.
00:30:34
Speaker
But Tim Sexton hasn't done anything since Led Zeppelin, so...
00:30:39
Speaker
Well, and he's certainly available since he's without his J. J. P. Yeah.
00:30:42
Speaker
He's without his designer.
00:30:45
Speaker
I can see this going one of two ways.
00:30:47
Speaker
Either people like really another dad rock from the 80s.
00:30:52
Speaker
You're always going to hear that.
00:30:53
Speaker
I don't care how great it's going to be as soon as it is released.
00:30:58
Speaker
You're going to get the cries for great.
00:31:02
Speaker
Another pin for aging white dudes.
00:31:05
Speaker
So my question is, though, what isn't dad rock at this point?
00:31:07
Speaker
Because technically I'm a dad now.
00:31:09
Speaker
And I've been a dad for 11 years now.
00:31:14
Speaker
And the music I grew up with is from the 2000s.
00:31:17
Speaker
I mean, it's obviously not the stuff you guys listen to, but I'm never going to.
00:31:22
Speaker
You mean you people?
00:31:28
Speaker
But like I would be willing to compromise with the 90s like triple drain was talking about red hot chili peppers.
00:31:34
Speaker
I feel like that's a good.
00:31:37
Speaker
I think if you qualify for a 401k, then you can officially say anything you listen to as dad rock.
00:31:44
Speaker
So we do a paramour pinball machine.
00:31:46
Speaker
That's from the 2000s.
00:31:47
Speaker
I have no idea who that is.
00:31:51
Speaker
at this point does it count as dad rock though he has i'm a dad no an aqua bass doesn't count either they have to be a good band what about uh justin timberlake i'm asking for a friend but justin right you want to bring sexy back i wouldn't mind it
00:32:12
Speaker
Would you do a crossover with NSYNC or would it just be strictly be JT?
00:32:17
Speaker
Man, Justin's catalog is plenty thick.
00:32:20
Speaker
Why isn't he in a pinball machine?
00:32:22
Speaker
Between all the movies and stuff he's done, he should be in a pinball machine.
00:32:28
Speaker
I would buy a Justin Timberlake pinball machine.
00:32:31
Speaker
Especially if it's like Love Guru.
00:32:39
Speaker
Wait, what is that?
00:32:42
Speaker
That South Korean boy band that is huge right now?
00:32:46
Speaker
Is that what it is?
00:32:47
Speaker
Yeah, something like that.
00:32:49
Speaker
You're more hip with the times than I am.
00:32:51
Speaker
No, I knew about it because there was someone at work who was, they were coming into Sophie stadium, which is, you know, the big one where the Rams and the chargers play.
00:33:01
Speaker
And she bought tickets for four nights, like all four nights.
00:33:04
Speaker
She bought tickets.
00:33:07
Speaker
And I was like, wait, who, who are they?
00:33:09
Speaker
Like, this is the first time I'd heard about them, but they are, they make so much money that they are rated on the GDP of South Korea.
00:33:21
Speaker
And so, I don't know.
00:33:23
Speaker
So I think there's a, well,
00:33:26
Speaker
There's certainly a popularity for that.
00:33:27
Speaker
Does it cross over to pinball?
00:33:30
Speaker
Don't make it, people.
00:33:33
Speaker
Here's a band that I grew up with.
00:33:39
Speaker
I would consider them dad rock.
00:33:42
Speaker
They came out in 1998 or 9 and was very active during the 2000s.
00:33:47
Speaker
Would you consider that a dad rock?
00:33:53
Speaker
And they've definitely had the accolades to get a pinball machine, in my opinion.
00:33:57
Speaker
Yeah, I was going to say that you're not going to get the music that is very polarizing.
00:34:05
Speaker
But hey, they made Iron Maiden.
00:34:06
Speaker
So I think if they made Iron Maiden, any music is possible.
00:34:11
Speaker
I'm not talking about a Flog and Molly pinball machine here.
00:34:14
Speaker
I have no idea what that is.
00:34:17
Speaker
I think that Lincoln park is a bit too screamy to be dad rock.
00:34:21
Speaker
That's, that's kind of what I was getting at with the, I was going to say the scream or the rage, but that was, then I thought, well, you have iron maiden, which I need to timberlake over Lincoln park.
00:34:38
Speaker
I would, I would buy a pink pinball machine.
00:34:45
Speaker
I'm not, it's not bad, but, but I guess my final question is where do you draw the line?
00:34:53
Speaker
It is Nirvana because Nirvana changed the tides of what rock was back in the 90s.
00:34:57
Speaker
That's not dead rock.
00:34:58
Speaker
It's not dead rock.
00:34:59
Speaker
I would say pre, I would say pre Nirvana.
00:35:03
Speaker
Basically when, when Nirvana came out.
00:35:06
Speaker
When Nirvana came out, every single hair band knew that that was the end.
00:35:13
Speaker
It was a seismic shift when Nevermind was released.
00:35:17
Speaker
And just overnight, every single hairband started wearing flannel and toning down their music.
00:35:27
Speaker
Because it became so formulaic.
00:35:31
Speaker
So Guns N' Roses is probably the last big super band that would qualify as dad rock in my book.
00:35:39
Speaker
Is Jimi Hendrix dad rock?
00:35:41
Speaker
That's grandpa rock.
00:35:46
Speaker
And I would say Led Zeppelin's probably, they're probably a little long in the tooth for the dad rock.
00:35:52
Speaker
Rush kind of slides in because they had a 40 year career.
00:35:57
Speaker
Well, same with ACDC.
00:35:58
Speaker
I mean, they started in the seventies along with Led Zeppelin.
00:36:04
Speaker
But I would say if ACDC dialed in their, their sound in 1978, um,
00:36:11
Speaker
or even 1980 with Back in Black.
00:36:15
Speaker
Rush kept changing with that, but now I'm getting super Rush nerdy on you.
00:36:23
Speaker
Rush is definitely solid in the dad rock era.
00:36:27
Speaker
Where's the guy that you guys had on that was a huge rush fan?
00:36:34
Speaker
Actually, believe me.
00:36:34
Speaker
I always call him Guava Juice.
00:36:37
Speaker
I text him every once in a while because I'm trying to get like an in on his next mod.
00:36:44
Speaker
I probably shouldn't call him Guava Juice then.
00:36:47
Speaker
I'm sure he'd appreciate it though.
00:36:48
Speaker
And I probably should have got him an LE when he, it's just the list was already so low.
00:36:52
Speaker
I mean, I'd rather be clear with people.
00:36:57
Speaker
So let me recap this.
00:36:59
Speaker
So we're thinking Rush, it just really comes down to code and play field.
00:37:03
Speaker
We think that Rush itself will move some units, but it really, because it could pull like a Led Zeppelin effect.
00:37:10
Speaker
Like Led Zeppelin had its numbers because of what Led Zeppelin is, but because after the play field was announced and everything like that,
00:37:17
Speaker
It kind of took a hinder or a backseat to what it could have been.
00:37:21
Speaker
Yeah, no one bought Led Zeppelin because they're in love with the play field.
00:37:28
Speaker
I'm predicting that if it is a rush by John Borg at the current temperature of our industry and market, we will see sales greater than Led Zeppelin.
00:37:40
Speaker
Not to be mean, but I think that's easy to do.
00:37:42
Speaker
Greater than Led Zeppelin, but less than Iron Maiden.
00:37:51
Speaker
But that's tough because that, that was a burn that lasted.
00:37:56
Speaker
When we think of Iron Maiden now fellows, we think of how many games sold and how impactful it is now for three years or so.
00:38:05
Speaker
First year, the first year you're right.
00:38:07
Speaker
As big as we may have thought.
00:38:09
Speaker
Yeah, that's fair.
00:38:11
Speaker
Because that was Keith Ellens' first game, you know?
00:38:13
Speaker
Is he still just a competitive player?
00:38:14
Speaker
Is this a PR move kind of thing?
00:38:18
Speaker
Man, Stern took a gamble and it paid off big.
00:38:21
Speaker
It paid off tenfold.
00:38:24
Speaker
If you would have told me after Iron Maiden came out, like, I was still skeptical.
00:38:27
Speaker
Like, I'm not saying that Keith was a bad designer or anything like that.
00:38:29
Speaker
I'm just, I'm like, I don't, I wasn't a huge Iron Maiden fan.
00:38:34
Speaker
Like, I enjoy the music, but I'm like,
00:38:36
Speaker
What's going to become of this?
00:38:37
Speaker
Because Elwin had so much time to work on Maiden in the form of Archer.
00:38:43
Speaker
And so it was like when he made Jurassic Park, that's when I was like, this is the real deal.
00:38:48
Speaker
It was like the Scott Denise thing.
00:38:50
Speaker
He's been working on it forever.
00:38:52
Speaker
And maybe this is just a one-off kind of thing.
00:38:55
Speaker
Well, bands usually have that.
00:38:57
Speaker
The first album is huge.
00:38:59
Speaker
And they call it the sophomore slump for a reason.
00:39:00
Speaker
Because you have...
00:39:03
Speaker
five years to develop material for one album.
00:39:06
Speaker
And then you have to come up with a new album in the next year.
00:39:09
Speaker
A lot of times they just don't have as much in the tank.
00:39:12
Speaker
And then Jurassic park came out.
00:39:14
Speaker
That was where he planted the flag and said, I'm here.
00:39:18
Speaker
Jurassic park is still an outrageously high selling pinball machine.
00:39:25
Speaker
Since it's, since it's inception guys, that thing is you can't keep those in stock.
00:39:31
Speaker
I was lucky that you had one in stock when I bought one.
00:39:33
Speaker
I called you up one day and was like, what you got in stock?
00:39:39
Speaker
Like the box is still warm.
00:39:42
Speaker
Speaking of L1, so let's talk rumors for a second.
Pinball Theme Desires and Speculations
00:39:46
Speaker
I'm hearing that his next game is Back to the Future and to Kapow Title.
00:39:50
Speaker
and that we're doing, well, the Kapow title tier.
00:39:56
Speaker
We start off with a premium and so on and so forth.
00:39:59
Speaker
Some people are claiming it's only Super LE, yada yada.
00:40:02
Speaker
Does this really matter?
00:40:04
Speaker
I know people are complaining like, well, it's Kapow, so we know that the price will be higher.
00:40:08
Speaker
But honestly, looking at Godzilla, how many people went... I mean, the Pro is still a good game.
00:40:13
Speaker
You're still getting a good game.
00:40:15
Speaker
But at this point, I'm like premium or nothing.
00:40:17
Speaker
Premium LE or nothing.
00:40:20
Speaker
I'm not really heartbroken if it is a Kapow title and it starts off at the premium because I feel like that's where I start with L1 anyway.
00:40:27
Speaker
Yeah, but keep in mind, generally, the premium price tag on a Kapow is going to be substantially higher.
00:40:33
Speaker
Maybe not substantially.
00:40:34
Speaker
It's going to be higher than that of a Stern Cornerstone, typically.
00:40:39
Speaker
So if right now premiums, let's see, just a buck shy of $9,000.
00:40:43
Speaker
So would you expect a Kapow title to be 95, 96?
00:40:47
Speaker
95, 99 at the least, I would guess.
00:40:50
Speaker
Yeah, I would say.
00:40:50
Speaker
I might go the full thousand.
00:40:51
Speaker
I would say 800 or 900.
00:41:03
Speaker
So we are dealing with almost a different, you know, a different model there.
00:41:08
Speaker
I guess you're right.
00:41:10
Speaker
And I guess looking back at the history, Elvira was not a kapow, but what was, I mean, Batman 66 is, and it obviously has commanded a higher price.
00:41:20
Speaker
It fluctuated with Elvira when they did do price increases.
00:41:25
Speaker
Beatles is kind of its own beast.
00:41:28
Speaker
I don't know if you can really, can you count Beatles into the whole Kapow?
00:41:31
Speaker
Because I almost felt like they were searching there on pricing.
00:41:36
Speaker
It was a different dog, but, um, but when it did come out, we know that there were three models in the same fashion and we know the lowest quote unquote model was mimicking that of a limited edition with powder coat and everything.
00:41:51
Speaker
And it had a substantially higher price than that of a regular premium.
00:41:56
Speaker
Um, so yeah, I think it still lines up with, uh,
00:42:00
Speaker
I think it still lines up with everything else.
00:42:02
Speaker
And they probably went, what they do is a Kapow title is also known as a studio title.
00:42:07
Speaker
And that's what they did with Elvira as well.
00:42:09
Speaker
They called it a studio title.
00:42:11
Speaker
And those prices, those prices were even that of Batman 66 and Elvira all the way up to kind of this year.
00:42:19
Speaker
So I think they would probably map those pricing similarly in the future.
00:42:25
Speaker
Elwin's a golden goose right now.
00:42:28
Speaker
People weren't happy with the increase, but then they saw Godzilla and was like, well, it makes sense.
00:42:34
Speaker
You know, if they would have done that with Led Zeppelin, they were like, what crap are you guys trying to pull over our eyes?
00:42:40
Speaker
Yeah, it's just my opinion.
00:42:43
Speaker
Certainly, Elwin is their golden boy right now.
00:42:47
Speaker
So it makes sense if you are finding a way of giving value to the premium market.
00:42:55
Speaker
then you are going to try to tap your greatest resource or your greatest, I guess, perceived resource.
00:43:03
Speaker
I'm not trying to be disparaging about any other playfield designers there.
00:43:09
Speaker
But it was the same type of thing with Lyman, is that they moved Lyman to Batman 66 to sell Batman 66 for a reason.
00:43:20
Speaker
Because he has a track record of having excellent, well-respected code.
00:43:26
Speaker
And if you put Elwynn on a premium-type game, premium-only game, then he has that respect for he is 4 for 4 for solid games.
00:43:38
Speaker
So why wouldn't you explore that option?
00:43:42
Speaker
I know that you guys are in the know a lot here on loser kid.
00:43:45
Speaker
And I get a lot of people telling us myself hearing that, uh, you guys are thinking about a rumor of Elwin and Kapow makes me happy because, and money sucks of course, but because Kapow brings in the big licenses and theme matters to me more than it probably should.
00:44:06
Speaker
I will proudly wear that.
00:44:08
Speaker
Uh, so if we got a big license and a Keith Elwin, uh,
00:44:15
Speaker
Watch me throw my money.
00:44:17
Speaker
So you're telling me you're day one on this is Spinal Tap with HomePen, huh?
00:44:21
Speaker
Oh, what a horrible thing.
00:44:24
Speaker
No, no, no, no, no.
00:44:27
Speaker
It's actually a great theme, but I, sorry, I wouldn't buy a Rush pinball machine by HomePin.
00:44:34
Speaker
I guess I'll put it that way.
00:44:35
Speaker
And I'm a huge Rush fan.
00:44:38
Speaker
If we're talking dad rock, talk about dad movie.
00:44:40
Speaker
This is Spinal Tap.
00:44:44
Speaker
What do you think he's on then?
00:44:45
Speaker
If Elwin's over there, if Elwin's doing a kapow, do we get Harry Potter?
00:44:51
Speaker
Oh, you know, maybe Back to the Future is code for Back to the Magic.
00:45:01
Speaker
Hermione, grab your wand.
00:45:03
Speaker
If they did an Elwyn Harry Potter, would they need to produce anything else for the rest of the year?
00:45:10
Speaker
They need Mark Silk as the voices for all of the characters.
00:45:14
Speaker
That's what they need.
00:45:15
Speaker
There'd just be one ramp and two gobble holes and that's it.
00:45:18
Speaker
That's pretty much it.
00:45:19
Speaker
Everybody be like, here, here, take it.
00:45:23
Speaker
Can you imagine the modding community for that one?
00:45:26
Speaker
You know how many people would be ticked?
00:45:27
Speaker
Because right now, let's admit, Godzilla is game of the year.
00:45:32
Speaker
I'm not hearing it from anything else at this point.
00:45:34
Speaker
There's no way anything else comes close.
00:45:37
Speaker
And I'm in on a second run, Godzilla, which is March, if I remember correctly.
00:45:43
Speaker
And then the third run is August.
00:45:46
Speaker
How insane would it be?
00:45:48
Speaker
They announce Harry Potter.
00:45:51
Speaker
all of a sudden price doesn't matter at that point.
00:45:54
Speaker
I'm not saying it.
00:45:55
Speaker
Price still does matter, but a lot of these people price would not matter to, and they would need to have it.
00:46:02
Speaker
I bet you third one and fourth one would already be booking out the same week.
00:46:07
Speaker
And that's just me.
00:46:08
Speaker
As soon as Harry Potter is announced.
00:46:11
Speaker
But, uh, I mean, do we think it's Harry Potter?
00:46:13
Speaker
I mean, Kapow could do it.
00:46:16
Speaker
He could make it happen.
00:46:18
Speaker
Well, Craig Bobby cited the super awesome pinball show for their great interview with Joe Kamenkao.
00:46:26
Speaker
Sorry, I have to give you crap, Craig.
00:46:29
Speaker
So when Kamenkao was on our show, he talked about he owns rights to the Back to the Future Broadway play.
00:46:35
Speaker
And so they were making some connections there.
00:46:40
Speaker
He likes to tease.
00:46:41
Speaker
He likes to troll.
00:46:44
Speaker
Oh, don't get my hopes up.
00:46:47
Speaker
Tim Lee, avid listener to the show.
00:46:49
Speaker
If you haven't checked out the poor man's tribe multiball with him and Rachel, go out and do it.
00:46:54
Speaker
Tim tells me on a weekly basis how much he loves Back to the Future, and that's like his dream theme.
00:46:59
Speaker
Between that and Transformers 1984.
00:47:02
Speaker
It's like, it's the, it's besides Harry Potter, what's the next largest theme that everybody screams?
00:47:11
Speaker
That's, that's the whale out there.
00:47:13
Speaker
It's back to the future.
00:47:16
Speaker
At this point, guys, I think back to the future has actually surpassed the desire for a Jaws.
00:47:23
Speaker
Yeah, I'll agree with you there.
00:47:25
Speaker
There's more stuff.
00:47:27
Speaker
There's way more assets that you could incorporate into the Back to the Future.
00:47:31
Speaker
In Jaws, you have this mean fish, this fish that needs psychotherapy.
00:47:37
Speaker
Well, who are we talking to?
00:47:38
Speaker
And they said that they could do Jaws, but they'd only have rights to the shark.
00:47:42
Speaker
It's like, what's the point of doing Jaws then?
00:47:45
Speaker
The shark was cheap.
00:47:46
Speaker
We talked to some people.
00:47:50
Speaker
Well, they don't have to deal with licensing because they're not negotiating with actors.
00:47:55
Speaker
I still think Jaws would do great.
00:47:57
Speaker
Back to the Future would do great.
00:48:01
Speaker
What about Sharknado?
00:48:04
Speaker
We can do that now.
00:48:05
Speaker
But seriously, besides Harry Potter and Back to the Future, what other big titles you got out there?
00:48:09
Speaker
What else is Grell?
00:48:10
Speaker
What else are you hearing, Zach?
00:48:13
Speaker
Not from the studio, but people requesting, like, do you ever hear this is coming out?
00:48:18
Speaker
You put me on the list.
00:48:19
Speaker
Well, let's pull up my list now from flipping out the interested list.
00:48:24
Speaker
Excuse me while I whip this out.
00:48:27
Speaker
What was this about a PG movie?
00:48:29
Speaker
Hey, that's from Blazing Saddles.
00:48:32
Speaker
That is a dad rock show if there ever is one.
00:48:34
Speaker
I almost lost me a 400 all hand caught.
00:48:36
Speaker
Okay, we've got Toy Story is a big heavy list.
00:48:43
Speaker
Okay, but is that because it's been rumored for so long or is that the fact that people really want a Toy Story?
00:48:47
Speaker
For whatever reason.
00:48:49
Speaker
Toy Story is a big long list.
00:48:50
Speaker
There'd be a lot of people who'd want a Toy Story for their own.
00:48:52
Speaker
My wife's already asking me.
00:48:53
Speaker
She's like, didn't you say there was a Toy Story coming out?
00:48:55
Speaker
I'm like, that's the rumor.
00:48:58
Speaker
Harry Potter is a long list.
00:49:01
Speaker
Pulp Fiction has become a long list.
00:49:05
Speaker
I would be surprised if they ever made that.
00:49:07
Speaker
Back to the Future is a long list.
00:49:12
Speaker
Rush is now a very long list.
00:49:16
Speaker
I'm so I'm somewhere mid on that list.
00:49:18
Speaker
I called Zach and he's like, yeah, you're pretty far down.
00:49:20
Speaker
Like, okay, we'll just put me on it.
00:49:22
Speaker
I have a handful of people on journey journey.
00:49:26
Speaker
It'd be a great pen.
00:49:27
Speaker
A lot of people on Lord of the Rings remake and Tron remake.
00:49:32
Speaker
Uh, a Pirates of the Caribbean.
00:49:33
Speaker
If they did that again, long list there.
00:49:34
Speaker
Jaws is a long list.
00:49:37
Speaker
We've got James Bond, Beetlejuice, pretty growing list there.
00:49:46
Speaker
We have Scooby-Doo, the one that nobody talks about that I would love.
00:49:51
Speaker
I think Scooby-Doo would do well.
00:49:53
Speaker
I think done right in the right hands, it would do very well.
00:49:57
Speaker
That feels like a spooky title, actually.
00:50:00
Speaker
He-Man Masters of the Universe.
00:50:03
Speaker
The Dolph Lundgren one, right?
00:50:07
Speaker
Joe, Venom is a growing list now.
00:50:11
Speaker
Legends of Zelda, of course.
00:50:18
Speaker
Golden Girls, just because people are cute.
00:50:23
Speaker
Predator, Transformers G1.
00:50:26
Speaker
The Matrix is a huge license.
00:50:29
Speaker
Pee-wee's Big Adventure, believe it or not.
00:50:31
Speaker
Handful of people on that list.
00:50:34
Speaker
That could be interesting.
00:50:35
Speaker
Big Trouble in Little China.
00:50:39
Speaker
Do you fall asleep while you're playing?
00:50:44
Speaker
Sorry, I'm going back.
00:50:46
Speaker
I gotta go back to Pee Wee and to Big Trouble and Little China.
00:50:51
Speaker
Those both feel like trolls to me.
00:50:52
Speaker
I mean, it's because Jack Danger and Kaneda have been pushing those for so long.
00:50:57
Speaker
They're like, you know what you guys need to do?
00:50:59
Speaker
Fanbase, you should hit up Zach Manning.
00:51:03
Speaker
There actually is a there is a desire for Pee Wee's Big Adventure.
00:51:09
Speaker
I mean, it's a it's a Tim Burton movie.
00:51:12
Speaker
And and it's it is bizarre, but you could certainly make an interesting game.
00:51:19
Speaker
I think outside of the hardcore fan base, though, that'd be a pretty hard sell.
00:51:24
Speaker
I would take a Pee Wee over 90% of what I've listed so far.
00:51:30
Speaker
It is a just a wonderful fantasy.
00:51:34
Speaker
I'm, I'm a big Pee Wee fan.
00:51:36
Speaker
We did name our van large Marge.
00:51:40
Speaker
Oh, that would be good.
00:51:41
Speaker
Army of darkness and evil dead.
00:51:43
Speaker
John wick, uh, to spinal tap, Indiana Jones, speed racer, uh, twilight zone remake.
00:51:55
Speaker
um kind of feels like we're getting into the weeds here well here's also the challenge somebody's on the list for muse music okay put me on that list i would take doing that right now muse is actually one of the bus counselors i've ever been to it was so good and listener all you've got to do it that's it that's as easy as it is scott larson's now on the muse list boom yeah for an le do a little le action yeah absolutely bring it on you're in yeah
00:52:20
Speaker
One of the, I went to Muse and I saw Muse back in 2009 and they opened for a little band called U2.
00:52:29
Speaker
And Muse was way better that night than U2 was.
00:52:34
Speaker
And I had no idea who Muse was.
00:52:37
Speaker
Speaking of Muse, I'm going to rewind.
00:52:39
Speaker
Okay, by the way, U2 also would be a good thing.
00:52:42
Speaker
Oh, no, we've already talked for Rush.
00:52:43
Speaker
I just want to bring this up for two seconds.
00:52:45
Speaker
How amazing Rush is known for their laser shows, right?
00:52:49
Speaker
How amazing would it be for them to reuse the projector from stranger things and put a laser light show in Rush?
00:52:59
Speaker
They should reuse it at some point.
00:53:02
Speaker
But do you think Borg's going to take that trick from Eddie?
00:53:06
Speaker
Do you think we'll get a return of expression lights?
00:53:10
Speaker
Bring me up to speed on that.
00:53:12
Speaker
You mean like mood rings?
00:53:14
Speaker
It's in Led Zeppelin.
00:53:17
Speaker
So yeah, I think those are really cool.
00:53:21
Speaker
I have the topper on Led Zeppelin and every people that come over and they see the lights that move, they're basically like little searchlight things on the top.
00:53:29
Speaker
No, I'm talking about the ones on the side of the art blades.
00:53:37
Speaker
Maybe we get another, here's the next music pin.
00:53:40
Speaker
I think those are actually essential for music pins.
00:53:43
Speaker
I think it really does create a mood that it was shown with the guns and roses.
00:53:50
Speaker
And actually I, I, I like the symmetry on Led Zeppelin, those expression lights.
00:53:57
Speaker
I thought you were talking about the, the topper that has those spotlight things, which are pretty fun because they move around.
00:54:04
Speaker
Yeah, but that's a good point, Josh.
00:54:06
Speaker
Do we see Expression Lights again?
00:54:07
Speaker
Do we see Laser Show like a Star Trek?
00:54:10
Speaker
Maybe Projector and Stranger Things?
00:54:12
Speaker
What has John Borg got up his sleeve?
00:54:15
Speaker
So I think we answered the ultimate question.
00:54:16
Speaker
So it's either coming down, people either want Harry Potter or they want Back to the Future.
00:54:27
Speaker
What movie is it where they're making fun of Christopher Lloyd?
00:54:30
Speaker
Where they're like...
00:54:31
Speaker
It's like a behind the scenes.
00:54:33
Speaker
It's like one of those families in the pool house.
00:54:34
Speaker
I think Justin Timberlake's in it and they keep yelling out Great Scott.
00:54:38
Speaker
Oh, was that Alpha Dog?
00:54:42
Speaker
Were they kidnapped the kid?
00:54:45
Speaker
I haven't seen that in a while.
00:54:48
Speaker
We'll figure it out later.
00:54:49
Speaker
If you know the show that I'm talking about.
00:54:52
Speaker
please email into the loser kid pinball podcast.
00:54:55
Speaker
It was so many hints.
00:54:56
Speaker
We just dropped what the crap it was.
00:54:57
Speaker
So let's, let's move on to, uh, you know, we were talking venom.
00:55:03
Speaker
Uh, do you think it's time that we do another Spider-Man pinball machine?
00:55:07
Speaker
I know venom's not necessarily is, but isn't Spider-Man.
00:55:12
Speaker
we're not going to develop into really into that, but we've had, we've had five more movies come out and we know that comic book heroes are a big thing with Stern.
00:55:25
Speaker
Do you think we start seeing another Spider-Man anytime soon?
00:55:29
Speaker
Would you do a different layout or would you do a, um, the same layout with a updated theme, like a Tom Holland theme?
00:55:39
Speaker
What would you, what would you prefer?
00:55:40
Speaker
That's the question.
00:55:42
Speaker
I think you give it a new layout.
00:55:43
Speaker
I think you give it a fresh layout like you did with Avengers.
00:55:47
Speaker
But Avengers was fixing a problematic playfield.
00:55:52
Speaker
Spider-Man's playfield is actually pretty good.
00:55:54
Speaker
Yeah, but it's been reused in Star Trek and in Led Zeppelin.
00:55:58
Speaker
You see what I'm saying here?
00:56:01
Speaker
I doubt people want Spider-Man 4.0, 5.0.
00:56:05
Speaker
Yeah, they're not going to redo that.
00:56:06
Speaker
The bigger question is if we see a Venom, do we see a comic book version like the rumors suggest or do we see something scripted from a prior intellectual property like the films?
00:56:19
Speaker
Yeah, I think the movies are too wild card at this point.
00:56:22
Speaker
I don't think they've been pooling like an Avengers or anything like that.
00:56:28
Speaker
I think honestly, Sony only makes... I don't want to say they only make these, but they have an agreement with...
00:56:34
Speaker
marvel that they have to make so many spider-man movies every so many years that's why we got so many spider-man movies well they have to make them or lose the license which is basically what happened with the fantastic four which is why they kept trying to find a a a movie that worked for that theme exactly yes they were contractually obligated to
00:56:58
Speaker
I feel like Venom was just one of those things.
00:57:00
Speaker
It's like, we need to make a movie anyway.
00:57:01
Speaker
Spider-Man, this counts.
00:57:02
Speaker
You know, I think a Venom comic book makes the most sense.
00:57:08
Speaker
I think it would be a really good seller.
00:57:12
Speaker
And I believe at this point, the relationship between Stern Pinball and Marvel is so strong listener that it would not surprise me at all.
00:57:20
Speaker
If we see the frequency of a Marvel based pin, as often as we do a music based pin going forward.
00:57:26
Speaker
I still want a Black Panther pin.
00:57:28
Speaker
Well, an insider secret.
00:57:30
Speaker
Marvel loves zombie Yeti.
00:57:33
Speaker
I don't know if you, I assume this is public knowledge, but no, seriously, Marvel, after what he did for Deadpool, they specifically request zombie Yeti.
00:57:43
Speaker
He did Avengers because of their request.
00:57:46
Speaker
From what I understand.
00:57:48
Speaker
Didn't he talk about that on ours?
00:57:49
Speaker
Cause he said he was originally asked.
00:57:51
Speaker
I think he was asked to do it.
00:57:52
Speaker
So, but he was already on Ninja Turtles and he said, well, if you can't find anyone else, you know, hit me up.
00:57:57
Speaker
And I don't think they just wanted him.
00:58:00
Speaker
Well, I don't either.
00:58:00
Speaker
He does a great job.
00:58:01
Speaker
He definitely brings the Marvel vibes are strong with zombie.
00:58:05
Speaker
He does a fantastic job with comic book art.
00:58:09
Speaker
I'm a sucker for superhero ones, so I would totally buy it.
00:58:14
Speaker
And I think it'd be great.
00:58:16
Speaker
I, I actually do like the,
00:58:18
Speaker
comic book version of them.
00:58:21
Speaker
And, and that's probably just because, you know, I, I read comic books when I was a kid.
00:58:27
Speaker
And so in, on some level it reconnects with me, even though I haven't read them in years.
00:58:33
Speaker
But I still like that vibe.
00:58:36
Speaker
The challenge that you have when you do a live action one is sometimes it can age
00:58:42
Speaker
poorly and there were some people who didn't like the spider-man um they didn't like the artwork because they weren't a big fan of that some people really preferred the ultimate version of it i think it looks much better in that comic form yeah that's that's the only downfall with in my opinion of the ultimate comic book version of spider-man is you don't get the call-outs
00:59:05
Speaker
Yeah, the call-outs were great.
00:59:07
Speaker
JK Simons did fantastic.
00:59:09
Speaker
If you could update and even have him come back, because he's in the movies.
00:59:13
Speaker
He's in the new ones.
00:59:16
Speaker
I think if you got a very harmonious little thing going on there, I think it'd sell gangbusters.
00:59:21
Speaker
And that's the thing is I think we're going to see another Spider-Man.
00:59:24
Speaker
That's when people were talking comic book and then when Venom came up, it didn't shock me because I'm like, it's almost feeling like it's time for another Spider-Man pinball machine.
00:59:32
Speaker
I think this is, if we see a Venom, this is the version of the Spider-Man you're referring to.
00:59:40
Speaker
I don't think we see a Spider-Man for a long time if a Venom happens.
00:59:43
Speaker
Yeah, I would agree.
00:59:45
Speaker
Now I want a Spider-Man more than I want a Venom, but... I don't know.
00:59:50
Speaker
I think Venom is fun.
00:59:52
Speaker
Venom is a fun anti-hero, and they were able to do a really good job.
00:59:58
Speaker
But this is actually... We didn't really talk too much about this with Dad Rock.
01:00:04
Speaker
But for a lot of those things, they still kind of stayed in the PG realm.
01:00:11
Speaker
And so all those bands back in the 80s and even early 90s, I mean, I would say some bands obviously excluded Motley Crue, Guns N' Roses.
01:00:22
Speaker
But for a lot of them, I mean, you could play those.
01:00:24
Speaker
I was thinking about licking it up.
01:00:27
Speaker
But the over-the-top stuff now, I mean, they were listening to stuff in the OR the other day.
01:00:33
Speaker
I'm like, I don't know who's screaming what, but there were a lot of NSFW words in there.
01:00:42
Speaker
Isn't that what you guys say?
01:00:46
Speaker
There was a song by an artist called Cupcake, and I've never heard of this artist, but wow, that was over the top.
01:00:53
Speaker
That's the new trend, man.
01:00:54
Speaker
You name yourself after a food, so there's like marshmallow and cupcake.
01:00:58
Speaker
Hey, I like cupcakes.
01:01:00
Speaker
And then you come out with lighter tunes.
01:01:02
Speaker
They're all explicit.
01:01:05
Speaker
Yeah, they're very explicit.
01:01:08
Speaker
Well, here's a question I have for you guys.
01:01:11
Speaker
We haven't seen a Stern pinball vault in a long time.
01:01:16
Speaker
Do you think we see one anytime soon?
01:01:18
Speaker
And if so, what would it be?
01:01:20
Speaker
I will say no, because the purpose of the vault, well, there's two purposes of the vaults.
01:01:26
Speaker
One is if something's not selling and they need something else to put in the line and there's a demand for it, then they'll throw them on for a week or a couple of days.
01:01:38
Speaker
That's one of the first reasons.
01:01:40
Speaker
The second reason is possibly, and this is me speculating, filling contractual obligations.
01:01:46
Speaker
And so if they still have contractually obligated to either do a certain amount or a theme or things like that, then yes, I think that makes sense.
01:01:56
Speaker
The challenge is they are so far behind in production that I don't think they need to do the 401k tour that a lot of bands are doing because they're still selling the great... They don't have to resort to a greatest hits album.
01:02:13
Speaker
They're still selling big stuff.
01:02:15
Speaker
However, the go-to that I would absolutely say, if you're going to vault something, you're going to vault Tron.
01:02:23
Speaker
that that is a that is a slam dunk option you slap a new artwork on there as long as you keep daft punk as the music i think there might be other other ones out there i don't know i still think lord the rings is the one okay but aside from those what would i have a hard time vaulting lord the rings without actually putting an lcd in it and putting the movie clips in there but then you have to revamp stuff at that point i think you could get away with animated
01:02:53
Speaker
I think you could get away with like a comic book version of Lord of the Rings.
01:02:57
Speaker
And so you didn't have to deal with all the licensing rights.
01:03:01
Speaker
Oh, I don't know about that.
01:03:05
Speaker
That's like saying, it's like the people that say Harry Potter, we, I'd be fine with a novel form of a pinball machine.
01:03:16
Speaker
So you're saying you're going to bring Gandalf out of retirement.
01:03:25
Speaker
I want to throw this out here too.
01:03:27
Speaker
Let's not do the gold foil backlash though.
01:03:29
Speaker
I was going to say, hold on Zach.
01:03:31
Speaker
Back to your question.
01:03:32
Speaker
I don't foresee them doing a vault anytime soon with how backlog they are.
01:03:38
Speaker
It's either if they're going to have titles to fill gaps, I feel like it's going to be either the pin or it's going to be just some of these offshoots that they're starting to do occasionally.
01:03:51
Speaker
But like Scott said, I think we're getting to a point where they're so backlogged.
01:03:55
Speaker
And when we're at the end of 2021 and they're already booking out into 2023, there's no reason to do a vault at this point.
01:04:03
Speaker
When you're not even building, you know, stranger things, you're not building Led Zeppelins.
01:04:07
Speaker
And those are things that are current, that are within your catalog.
01:04:12
Speaker
I don't see a reason to go back and say, Hey, let's do another round of Iron Man.
01:04:17
Speaker
It's like, well, why?
01:04:19
Speaker
Because you're selling, you're selling gangbusters on Ghostbusters and Mandalorian.
01:04:24
Speaker
And I mean, it is.
01:04:25
Speaker
Well, maybe they could do a Ghostbusters rerun though.
01:04:28
Speaker
Maybe that could be a vault.
01:04:31
Speaker
Cause Ghostbusters, it kind of, it, it was a brutal game.
01:04:36
Speaker
Didn't sell very well.
01:04:37
Speaker
It sold great based on theme, but then people gave up on it.
01:04:41
Speaker
And rightfully so.
01:04:43
Speaker
But they may want to ruin that.
01:04:45
Speaker
I don't know, Zach.
01:04:46
Speaker
Outside of Tron and Lord of the Rings, do you have a vibe for what you would want?
01:04:52
Speaker
I will say you brought up Ghostbusters prior to this most recent pinball resurgence.
01:04:58
Speaker
I would this is merely speculation and guess a pretty strong hypothesis here.
01:05:03
Speaker
I think that Ghostbusters was likely their greatest selling pinball machine all the way back to maybe ACDC.
01:05:13
Speaker
I think it sold them tons.
01:05:16
Speaker
Yeah, I think you're right, though.
01:05:18
Speaker
But whenever I asked you guys that question, I was being sneaky because I had a follow-up because I knew you would say no to the whole vault idea.
01:05:26
Speaker
What if I pitched you this?
01:05:28
Speaker
That's what podcasts do like myself.
01:05:31
Speaker
What if I pitched you this, listener?
01:05:34
Speaker
Scott, Josh, you say, no, they don't have time for a vault.
01:05:39
Speaker
Why would they do that?
01:05:40
Speaker
Well, picture this.
01:05:43
Speaker
Picture them having an awesome game called Elvira.
01:05:48
Speaker
That everybody wants.
01:05:51
Speaker
And then they come out because everybody wants it.
01:05:54
Speaker
They can't build that many that quick.
01:05:56
Speaker
And a vault maybe won't.
01:05:59
Speaker
You can't build that many.
01:06:00
Speaker
So they come out with a 40th anniversary that is selling for $25,000 to $30,000.
01:06:05
Speaker
Now, what if you take something like a Tron listener or a Ghostbusters or Lord of the Rings and you only make $100,000?
01:06:15
Speaker
200 of them but you sell them for 25 to 40 000 now does that make sense this is a game that everybody has wanted new in the box for years a proven entity and with only 250 released wallets are opening up in my opinion
01:06:37
Speaker
please send your hate mail to Zach at flipping out pinball.
01:06:42
Speaker
You know, I don't give them those ideas.
01:06:45
Speaker
I see y'all's gears turning though.
01:06:47
Speaker
Sadly, I, I see that in the future.
01:06:51
Speaker
So Scott, tell me, you just sold a Tron pro.
01:06:55
Speaker
How much did you sell that for?
01:06:58
Speaker
Listener, by the way, that, that number is $15,000.
01:07:03
Speaker
So, no, I can... As much as I don't want to say it, Zach, I think you're on to something.
01:07:10
Speaker
Yeah, I think you are, too.
01:07:12
Speaker
Okay, I will say, though, that Tron is giving me ulcers because I...
01:07:20
Speaker
I have a very customized Tron and it is a beautiful machine.
01:07:25
Speaker
And I, I put it out there for what I consider a premium price, but I wasn't willing to part with it for anything other than a premium price.
01:07:35
Speaker
And so I put it out there and actually got someone who was local who was looking and came down and looked at it.
01:07:41
Speaker
Super nice guy named Brandon.
01:07:46
Speaker
And as and he decided, yes, he wants it.
01:07:52
Speaker
It's a verbal commitment right now.
01:07:53
Speaker
And then my son tells me.
01:07:57
Speaker
But dad, that's my favorite game.
01:08:02
Speaker
Oh, that, that takes a knife right to your heart.
01:08:06
Speaker
You're like, we got Godzilla coming in.
01:08:07
Speaker
I promise that'll be your next favorite game.
01:08:10
Speaker
No, I will say that he is a very sweet kid.
01:08:14
Speaker
And so part of me is I'm really struggling right now because we haven't completed the transaction.
01:08:22
Speaker
And man, that's hard to sell your kid's favorite game.
01:08:26
Speaker
But Papa, the Chrome.
01:08:33
Speaker
Look at the Chrome.
01:08:35
Speaker
All the mods, the arcade mod.
01:08:38
Speaker
Oh, the arcade mod cost more than a Switch.
01:08:41
Speaker
The light cycle, Papa.
01:08:45
Speaker
It's a custom light cycle that comes off the front of the pinball machine you actually sit on as you play Tron.
01:08:52
Speaker
That would be, I think you certainly, if you're looking for a quick grab, you could certainly do exactly what you're saying.
01:09:01
Speaker
I would still prefer if they updated it a little bit.
01:09:04
Speaker
Like I said, I don't know.
01:09:06
Speaker
I mean, obviously, like they did with Elvira, they'd probably do some trim and stuff like that.
01:09:10
Speaker
But I still want to see an LCD Lord of the Rings.
01:09:15
Speaker
I think they're definitely looking for different opportunities and having like a premium super limited edition option.
01:09:22
Speaker
But I would suggest they will do both in the future.
01:09:27
Speaker
Like right now they could do the cash grab option, but they could also do a release because at some point this roller coaster is going to slow down, my friends.
01:09:38
Speaker
We're all going to throw up.
01:09:39
Speaker
The Tron would be easy, though, because you're not going that far back to do a Tron.
01:09:44
Speaker
If you're still redoing Iron Man, you could easily do a Tron and make it really cool.
01:09:51
Speaker
Yeah, but the word easy and the word Disney shouldn't go in the same sentence.
01:09:55
Speaker
I mean, I bet that license is harder to get than Lord of the Rings.
01:10:01
Speaker
Yeah, you're probably right.
01:10:02
Speaker
Anytime Disney's associated, they're very jealous of their license.
01:10:05
Speaker
But no, I was just thinking about it the other day, and it came to me.
01:10:09
Speaker
I was like, okay, Elvira 40th editions are surprisingly selling well, and they are selling high, and this is a game that they're still building as a premium.
01:10:19
Speaker
I wonder what would happen if they thought to themselves, hey, why don't we just do this, but maybe not to a pin we're still making?
01:10:29
Speaker
From a business standpoint, it makes sense.
01:10:32
Speaker
You're onto something, you know, my number to get on the flipping out super L E Tron list contact.
01:10:38
Speaker
You know, what's funny as soon as this releases, I'll have 15 or 20 messages.
01:10:43
Speaker
I'll sit here on the, like, sit here at work and all of a sudden, ding, ding, ding, ding.
01:10:48
Speaker
And I'll be like, loser kid must have released their episode.
01:10:50
Speaker
Yeah, it's like, all right, what podcast are we talking about?
01:10:55
Speaker
I better listen to somebody's podcast.
01:10:57
Speaker
Okay, well, I, okay, you know what, Zach, I'm going to put myself on Facebook.
01:11:02
Speaker
the Tron and the Lord of the Rings list.
01:11:06
Speaker
And if it's the right price, then I will absolutely consider it.
01:11:10
Speaker
But you know what I always say, it never hurts to get on a list.
Personal Interests and Event Anticipations
01:11:15
Speaker
Scott is now on the Tron list.
01:11:19
Speaker
Lord of the Rings.
01:11:20
Speaker
I love how half this episode's been like, Scott's like, put me on the list.
01:11:24
Speaker
I'm interested in a limited edition topper for those as well.
01:11:29
Speaker
Okay, Zach, have you ever known me not to buy a topper?
01:11:33
Speaker
I'm adding that now.
01:11:34
Speaker
Yeah, pretty much every time I message Zach that I want a topper with a pin, he always laughs, and he's like, you're already on that list.
01:11:41
Speaker
I'm waiting for it to get like the kids back in my high school days, Nelly, getting two per.
01:11:48
Speaker
That's what I'm waiting for.
01:11:51
Speaker
I thought Scott's list was long with Zach for flipping out on purchases, and then I saw Joe Fox.
01:11:57
Speaker
Yeah, no, Joe is crazy.
01:12:01
Speaker
Basically, I look like a guy with basically a... I dabble in the addiction.
01:12:08
Speaker
Joe is like a full-on rock star with the parties he's throwing.
01:12:13
Speaker
Joe Fox is a rock star.
01:12:15
Speaker
Nicole and I have the best customers and friends in the world.
01:12:19
Speaker
He's a great dude.
01:12:21
Speaker
I wish we could have taken him to dinner.
01:12:22
Speaker
What is up with this?
01:12:23
Speaker
We never got to take you to dinner.
01:12:25
Speaker
Joe Fox... Zach was working.
01:12:28
Speaker
He was making it rain.
01:12:29
Speaker
Well, because when you were done working, it was 10 o'clock at night and no one wants to go get Chicago deep dish at 10 o'clock at night.
01:12:35
Speaker
Hey, I would have gone, but I was exhausted.
01:12:39
Speaker
Speaking of, are you guys going to TPF?
01:12:42
Speaker
Yeah, that's the plan.
01:12:43
Speaker
I'll fly in Friday and fly back Sunday.
01:12:48
Speaker
I'm so pumped for that.
01:12:50
Speaker
It feels weird though, that like TPF is only technically like two days long versus expo.
01:12:54
Speaker
That was like five.
01:12:56
Speaker
But expo, and we talked about this, the frustration that I had with the way they did the scheduling at expo and they, I wish they had more stuff.
01:13:05
Speaker
It seemed like there was a lot of waiting for the floor to open up.
01:13:09
Speaker
So I'm, I'm looking forward to TPF where it's going to be just, um,
01:13:14
Speaker
It's a Skittles-induced seizure coma over two days.
01:13:19
Speaker
Well, after listening to Dennis, he's like, don't give me a hug, but it seems like if it's so tight in there, you're going to be rubbing up against each other anyway.
01:13:26
Speaker
You might as well just...
01:13:28
Speaker
reach around and going to be my favorite part.
01:13:32
Speaker
And to, and to make sure that I provide him with adequate attention for the entire weekend at TPF, I'm here to announce flipping out, will not have a booth at TPF.
01:13:45
Speaker
This is the first look, my buddies have been telling me, Zach, like you've been doing this for three years now.
01:13:51
Speaker
Can you not just hang out with us at a show and not have a, not be, you know, stuck at your booth.
01:13:57
Speaker
And I thought after this last expo and Pinson Addy,
01:14:01
Speaker
You know what, guys?
01:14:02
Speaker
Like I, I would like to have a break and to hang out as a hobbyist.
01:14:06
Speaker
And so, yeah, we've got a booth paid for it.
01:14:09
Speaker
TPF, um, wonderful folks facilitating that the Vanderbeens and stuff.
01:14:14
Speaker
Uh, but we're going to be utilizing that space for the TPN booth and flipping out is going to take a step away from that as well.
01:14:22
Speaker
I'm going to go in life guys.
01:14:23
Speaker
I'm, you know, life is short.
01:14:26
Speaker
You're going to put Amanda Hamilton in charge of the TPN booth because she would rock it.
01:14:30
Speaker
She would rock it.
01:14:33
Speaker
So this is like the flipping out of sense.
01:14:36
Speaker
You know, like we had the Matthew McConaughey, the McConaissance.
01:14:39
Speaker
All right, all right, all right.
01:14:42
Speaker
This is the flipping out.
01:14:44
Speaker
I'm finding myself, Scott Larson, in Lincoln.
01:14:48
Speaker
I have to take him out to the parking lot and get him some barbecue.
01:14:51
Speaker
I just need to do the chest thing now.
01:15:00
Speaker
My wife and I were talking to the youth the other day and she brought up Matthew McConaughey and they, granted this age group was about 12 to 13 year olds.
01:15:09
Speaker
And they just looked at it.
01:15:09
Speaker
Who's Matthew McConaughey?
01:15:14
Speaker
We've gotten that old.
01:15:16
Speaker
And then she pulled out the line from a dazed and confused.
01:15:19
Speaker
You know, the best part about girls.
01:15:21
Speaker
Be a lot cooler if you do.
01:15:28
Speaker
Hey, Zach, by the way, Zach not only sells pinball machines, but you also have a deal with Roll Thrills, don't you?
01:15:36
Speaker
I love Roll Thrills.
01:15:39
Speaker
So if you're looking for that, that big buck hunter, go ahead and grab that and put that downstairs.
01:15:45
Speaker
I'm trying to figure out how to get one downstairs in my basement.
01:15:48
Speaker
We'll figure it out.
01:15:49
Speaker
Well, if you heard, you listened to the Josh Sharpe episode and raw thrills loves you too, Zach.
01:15:56
Speaker
This relationship is a, is a, is growing strong.
01:16:00
Speaker
I love all the people over there.
Game Accessibility and Content Highlights
01:16:02
Speaker
By the way, I do want to commission.
01:16:04
Speaker
for the next person who buys the, uh, the Jurassic park environmental that you sell or the King Kong environmental.
01:16:13
Speaker
That thing is huge.
01:16:15
Speaker
No, that's a big one.
01:16:16
Speaker
Minecraft's big too.
01:16:18
Speaker
I cannot wait to, I'm like a kid in a candy store with raw thrill stuff because raw thrill stuff seems like the ultimate toy to me.
01:16:25
Speaker
It's just, I don't care if it's at the Dave and Buster's.
01:16:27
Speaker
I don't care if it's in my basement.
01:16:28
Speaker
It's the ultimate toy.
01:16:29
Speaker
So I'm always itching to see what they have coming out next.
01:16:34
Speaker
It reminds me of the original Nintendo game glove.
01:16:39
Speaker
If you knew a kid with that game glove, he was a legend.
01:16:42
Speaker
It's like a power glove, man.
01:16:44
Speaker
Oh, that's what it was.
01:16:45
Speaker
The power glove, yeah.
01:16:48
Speaker
Yeah, I love the raw thrill stuff.
01:16:50
Speaker
And I've been working with them and trying to nudge them in certain directions.
01:16:54
Speaker
You know, Josh Sharp's hardheaded, but he's just such a brilliant, sharp guy that hopefully at some point we'll see more reason to get these into the home environments.
01:17:05
Speaker
No, I definitely, I think they need to figure out ways of doing that more and more because that, that is the future for all thrills.
01:17:13
Speaker
So especially big buck hunters at home, that, that would be huge.
01:17:16
Speaker
That's a no brainer.
01:17:17
Speaker
They're, they are making some movements to, to make them more accessible in the home setting.
01:17:24
Speaker
Well, we're getting up about 80 minutes, so I need to get this boy to bed.
01:17:30
Speaker
One last note, one last note.
01:17:33
Speaker
We want to give our congratulations, condolences.
01:17:40
Speaker
Yes, happy trails.
01:17:41
Speaker
A melancholy happy trails.
01:17:43
Speaker
We have all players podcasts.
01:17:46
Speaker
And, man, it was awesome being on your show back in January.
01:17:51
Speaker
Loved listening to you guys before we were podcasting.
01:17:54
Speaker
Jeff, awesome job.
01:17:55
Speaker
Joe, way to go tanking another podcast.
01:17:58
Speaker
Talk about the winner curses.
01:18:00
Speaker
No, I love you, Joe.
01:18:02
Speaker
We're going to hear about that from Joe.
01:18:07
Speaker
We love you, Lemire.
01:18:08
Speaker
Joe's a great guy.
01:18:11
Speaker
All right, Zach, any parting wisdom?
01:18:18
Speaker
Well, we did the melancholy happy trails.
01:18:20
Speaker
Now on the wrap-up segment.
01:18:22
Speaker
Scott, don't you have a heart to get started again?
01:18:27
Speaker
I think the world of you two, I don't need to plug, we've been plugging away all episode.
01:18:33
Speaker
You guys' show brings joy to my life because it's just another show that I enjoy that I don't have to edit.
01:18:40
Speaker
So please, please, please keep up the great work.
01:18:43
Speaker
I love your transparency.
01:18:45
Speaker
I love you guys just digging your feet in there.
01:18:48
Speaker
Even when subconsciously you probably don't even know that you're digging in.
01:18:55
Speaker
the interactions that you have with your guests.
01:18:56
Speaker
So anything that you guys ever need, please never hesitate because myself, Nicole, and the rest of the pinball community, we've got your back.
01:19:06
Speaker
We appreciate that.
01:19:07
Speaker
We appreciate you breaking out of your busy schedule.
01:19:10
Speaker
Zach just finished the whirlwind trip.
01:19:13
Speaker
Where were you last weekend?
01:19:15
Speaker
Oh, last weekend was Cincinnati for the show.
01:19:19
Speaker
So, uh, so Zach is actually staying up way past his bedtime to record with us.
01:19:23
Speaker
So we really do appreciate that.
01:19:25
Speaker
Hey, I woke up at 5 a.m.
01:19:27
Speaker
For you listeners out there that are familiar with Straight Down the Middle series on YouTube, that's a video series that myself and my best friend Greg Bone from Louisville, Kentucky do.
01:19:35
Speaker
And I woke up at 5 a.m.
01:19:38
Speaker
He was drinking coffee.
01:19:39
Speaker
He hadn't had his beers yet.
01:19:41
Speaker
And I caught him early, and we recorded some episodes.
01:19:45
Speaker
So we have a lot of fun stuff coming.
01:19:47
Speaker
And I'm going to give you guys some of the info that we've got coming.
01:19:50
Speaker
Straight Down the Middle is going to have a Godzilla review coming up next.
01:19:54
Speaker
After that, we're going to have a top 10 list that I don't think anybody's really discussed much.
01:20:00
Speaker
And I cannot wait for you guys to see that.
01:20:02
Speaker
And then in our third video upcoming before the end of the year, you guys are going to see us do another review.
01:20:09
Speaker
But this time, it's going to be non-pinball related.
01:20:13
Speaker
The Rover Bands episode, finally.
01:20:15
Speaker
And keep listening to the Pinball Show on the Pinball Network because I'm in love with Dennis Creasel.
01:20:21
Speaker
Goose up, boose up, baby.
01:20:24
Speaker
We had a great time with him and Anthony.
01:20:26
Speaker
We went and got some, some roast beef sandwiches, some Italian beef there.
01:20:31
Speaker
But you were the only one who did not order the sausage.
01:20:35
Speaker
You missed out on the sausage.
01:20:37
Speaker
It sounded like a sausage party.
01:20:39
Speaker
I'm not going to lie.
01:20:39
Speaker
Yeah, it kind of was, yeah.
01:20:41
Speaker
Three out of four anyway.
01:20:42
Speaker
Someone forgot their sausage.
01:20:44
Speaker
Tony's okay, but Den Den's where it's at.
01:20:46
Speaker
The most dynamic personality in pinball media for the last two years running, Dennis Creasel.
01:20:52
Speaker
Talking about awards, give that guy an award.
01:20:54
Speaker
I don't know anybody that's more deserving than him.
01:20:56
Speaker
He's got a t-shirt.
01:20:58
Speaker
Bring back Jesse J's pinball podcast because wasn't she going to award him the most eligible bachelor in pinball or something like that?
01:21:04
Speaker
I don't even think she deserves him.
01:21:07
Speaker
I don't think she was the award.
01:21:10
Speaker
No, not her as the award, but I thought they were giving out an award.
01:21:13
Speaker
Wasn't it they were trying to find the most eligible bachelor in pinball?
01:21:17
Speaker
He sits on his own throne of snark, and there's nothing that can match it.
01:21:21
Speaker
He is the king of snark.
01:21:27
Speaker
Thank you for coming on, Zach.
01:21:29
Speaker
Thanks, Scott, for staying up so freaking late with us.
01:21:35
Speaker
If you want to get a hold of us, actually, before I before I get my spiel, Zach, how can they get a hold of you?
01:21:41
Speaker
You can get ahold of me by emailing Zach, Z-A-C-H at flip the letter in out pinball.com for the sake of Scott's poor eyes.
01:21:48
Speaker
He looks like he's been at a Rush concert right there.
01:21:52
Speaker
You can text me for the quickest response at 812-457-9711 or just go make your purchase right now at flip in out pinball.com.
01:22:00
Speaker
And don't forget to share our episode for the contrast entry.
01:22:05
Speaker
And you know what?
01:22:06
Speaker
I have like one or two things.
01:22:08
Speaker
I gave away most of the stuff at Expo, but I have a few more things too.
01:22:12
Speaker
And so there are not two awards, but there are three, count them, three awards that you can enter in if you share our episode and get the word out there.
01:22:23
Speaker
Share, share, share.
01:22:25
Speaker
And we will be giving these away not next episode because our next episode is the Christmas special.
01:22:32
Speaker
And so we already have some clips coming in.
01:22:35
Speaker
If you want to submit a clip, you've got till Monday.
01:22:37
Speaker
I know this is springing on you quick.
01:22:40
Speaker
Sometimes that's the best because apparently people procrastinate when you give them three weeks.
01:22:45
Speaker
But if you want to give us your pinball wishes, your pinball Christmas wishes, I don't care if it's Christmas.
01:22:52
Speaker
I know people out there that do Hanukkah.
01:22:55
Speaker
Send us your wishes, your holiday wishes,
01:23:02
Speaker
So if you want to do that, send them to at Loserkidpinballpodcast at gmail.com.
01:23:08
Speaker
Also, if you want to get a hold of us, we are at Loserkidpinball on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and also on Twitch.
01:23:18
Speaker
And if you want to follow us on Insider, Josh is Loserkid because he was the first one to sign up.
01:23:23
Speaker
So I'm Loserkid2, the number two, not T-O-O-O.
01:23:29
Speaker
Other than that, got anything else for us before we shut this pig down?
01:23:37
Speaker
I ain't got nothing.
01:23:40
Speaker
01:23:45
Speaker
As Ben Stiller once said, do it.
01:23:50
Speaker
See you for the Christmas episode.
