because they are Australian made and they are absolutely fantastic. If you're trying to conceive, this is something that is going to be supporting you in the best way possible. And remember it takes two to tango. Yeah.
00:01:27
Speaker
You both got to do your part. And if that is as easy as taking two capsules a day, amazing. And remember, it's not just about falling pregnant. It's about the health of your baby ongoing and your pregnancy and all the things.
00:01:39
Speaker
Absolutely. So, yeah, so that's super exciting. So exciting, yeah. been taking up a lot of time. It has. And we're finally here. We did it. We've been so excited to release this with you guys because we know so many of you obviously come to see us at Mungbean for preconception care and we wanted to be able to get this into the hands of as many people as we can, even those that maybe can't come and see us in clinic for many different reasons, whether you're living overseas or financially not able to get that type of support.
00:02:09
Speaker
This is something that's going to be able support you far and wide. Also, i guess another big bean, it's a big time for us, literally just waiting on the birth of our baby boy.
00:02:21
Speaker
He's coming at some point we've got, I'm 38 and don't even know. Let me check my little app 38 two. Evie was my earliest and she was born 38 and 5. And then both the boys were 39. Tate was 39 and 6, so just one day before the due date. And Rome was 39 and 6. No, 39 and 3 or 4.
00:02:45
Speaker
So a couple of days before. So if not this week, next week, I would say it still could be an extra two weeks after that, but...

Impact of Household Toxins on Health

00:02:52
Speaker
We're in the weeks now. This baby's coming. How are you feeling about that? ah Yeah, I feel it, yeah. I'm tired, but I'm ready. know. Always ready. Yes, it's exciting. So yeah, we've had a lot going on over here in our space, haven't we? Yep.
00:03:07
Speaker
Sure Yep. Plotting along, not to mention everything else going on in the background, but we are excited and getting th through. So obviously preparing for this baby as well, and which we have actually spoken about before, how important it is not only for our preconception journey or bringing a new baby into the house, but also just for our general wellbeing is household quality.
00:03:29
Speaker
culprits that can be making you sick or contributing to a lot of these nasty issues. Our bodies, which a lot of people will say this when people go, I'm going low tox. I always see people in the comments of people saying that and being positive about it. And they'll say things like, oh, but your body detoxes.
00:03:48
Speaker
Your body can do it. It's made to do it, which, yes, they are right, but why do you want to give your body extra work? Overloading it with extra stuff that you could be taking away to support it. Exactly. Our bodies are literally powerhouses of detoxification and resilience, But sometimes there are toxins in our environment that can accumulate and increase that burden and that load and lead us to getting sick, which, again, it's not only just about these things. There's so many other things like, say, if you are pregnant and your immune system's compromised, then why would you want to give it extra work to be detoxing when you literally want to be growing a baby as well?
00:04:25
Speaker
So let's look at some of the culprits. We'll go over that today that could be in your home contributing to the decline of yours and your family's health. Some of these symptoms are headaches.
00:04:37
Speaker
Yes, headaches, skin rashes, eczema. Brain fog, sleep disturbances, mood issues like anxiety, irritability and low mood. Yes. Fatigue is a huge one. Yeah. Gut issues like bloating, constipation and nausea. Yeah.
00:04:52
Speaker
hormone imbalances like pms irregular cycles low libido or painful periods or heavy

Creating a Toxin-Free Home Environment

00:04:59
Speaker
heavy periods as well yes allergies and frequent infections it's just some of the the ones and there's obviously much more i know it's crazy to think that some of those things and even for kids and stuff that can just be flaring and flaring and the process of elimination is a huge one too like keeps getting a rash and you've changed a laundry detergent yeah or soap for the bath or shower. And then it's like, okay, let's look at diet because diet could be playing a major role there.
00:05:26
Speaker
So it's definitely time for us as a whole to clean up our environments and give ourselves and our families the best chance moving forward. So we're going to cover some of these culprits and what they contain and what they sort of impact. And like they usually call it nesting, right? Where you like start like fixing up the house and yeah getting it all ready and clean and nice.
00:05:46
Speaker
Bundle? I know which we're actually doing right now. We are preparing obviously for him. So we're close. Look, this is our fifth baby. So it's not like the first where you like nest hardcore. Oh, well, we did. You set up their room, make sure everything's perfect, got their clothes laid out, like hospital bag ready. I have got the hospital ra bag ready, but he's just going to sleep in our room with us. And then we've got a little Yeah.
00:06:11
Speaker
What you call it? It's not a cot, like a bassinet. It goes the same level as the bed, but it's their own separate cot. Yeah, a co-sleeper. Is it a co-sleeper? Yeah, I think they call it a co-sleeper and it like attaches to the bed. Yeah, yeah.
00:06:22
Speaker
And then we've also got that other little one that's on the left side. The rocker daytime one. Yeah, rocker, yeah, which you can just move around the house. But, yeah, I guess they just sort of slot in at this stage, which is exciting, but definitely like washing his clothes and stuff and preparing him so at least we've got clothes when he poops a thousand times a day. Yeah.
00:06:41
Speaker
ah Let's talk about cleaning products first because I feel like that's a big one. Yeah. Many conventional cleaning products contain fragrances, legal loophole hiding hundreds of chemicals. Yeah, that's it's a legal loophole where they hide heaps of them they just say fragrance and it can mean hundreds of different chemicals. And they're like the legal party or whatever, or whoever's created this thing, regulation I suppose, they put it under that. So it's like, okay, all of these chemicals can just be chucked into fragrance. And you don't know what they are and you just yeah lighten them up to make the house smell nice when you're doing yourself harm. Exactly. sucks Ammonia and chlorine, yeah which is in bleaches and other household chemicals. Yep. Phthalates as well. Yeah, they're bad. And VOCs, which are volatile organic compounds, which are found in harder chemicals like paint,
00:07:32
Speaker
trying to think grease removers, oven cleaner, like really heavy-duty cleaning stuff. And it's annoying because they do work, like yeah especially for something like your oven. They can just honestly strip it all the grease and all the crap out, but it's not good. No. It's not good for you. That's where your PPE, your personal protective equipment comes in place. Yes. Wear your mask, do it outside if you can, or if you can't, ventilate the house well, open up.
00:08:01
Speaker
And try and use more natural yeah ones, obviously, yeah which we'll talk about in a second. But these conventional cleaning products can irritate our airways and trigger things like asthma, um disrupt your hormones, especially thyroid and estrogen.
00:08:16
Speaker
They can increase inflammation in the body, which is obviously what we're always trying to avoid. And they can put extra stress on your liver's detoxing pathways, which is not good. but you can definitely find some better swaps. So simple ingredients, often best, things like vinegar, baking soda, alcohol, essential oils, or fragrance-free low-tox commercial brands. Artificial fragrances are everywhere, like your candles, air fresheners, laundry detergent, fabric softeners, hand soaps. Fragrance chemicals are strong strongly linked to
00:08:53
Speaker
hormonal imbalances, yep fertility issues, migraines, skin conditions, nervous system overstimulation. Yeah, it's not good. So i can just add to those nervous feelings, especially if you already do experience anxiety, obviously it can definitely play a role. And if you do have hormonal symptoms or headaches, fragrance is often one of those first things that we talk about clinically because it can really just set it off.

Reducing Toxins in Food Storage and Bedrooms

00:09:22
Speaker
And obviously perfume. Perfume, yeah. are just going to say that all skincare products with fragrances in it and also shampoos and body washes. don't know if you have that in there. Yeah, fragrance for sure. They're huge. They say that women before they leave the house put on
00:09:36
Speaker
300 different types of chemicals before they leave. Obviously, it's a bit different for men because they don't use as much like makeup or but think about it. Like if you jump in the shower, use a body wash, shampoo conditioner that just have all this fragrance. Face scrub. You're like, oh, cool. I got this new glitter filled yeah spray that smells delicious. Put that on afterwards. Then you start your makeup process. Then you put your deodorant on. Then you spray your perfume. Like, yeah, it's not good.
00:10:06
Speaker
It's not good at all, really. Swapping to natural candles, beeswax or soy wax candles with natural fragrances, yeah essential oil diffusers, natural laundry liquids and soaps. Totally, which you can definitely find around now. It's so great now. Then you've also got another huge one, which is plastics and food storage. So plastics, especially when heated, can leach BPAs.
00:10:31
Speaker
BPS, phthalates as well. And these actually mimic our estrogen in the body and are linked to issues like weight gain, insulin resistance, again, fertility issues, thyroid disruption, and early puberty and hormone balance in in children, which we actually see a lot in clinics. It's on the rise. I know. mean, like physicians,
00:10:52
Speaker
people store food in the fridge in plastic containers it's cheap available and they reheat again in the microwave and then the water bottle plastic i know so there's yeah there's small things you can do to help all your hormones and your health and if you think about it like even from babies all the way up no wonder they're going through like puberty early because unfortunately if parents don't have the knowledge or the education around it they could just be using like plastic toys plastic food bowls and plastic whatever and different types of chemicals on their children as well not thinking do you remember when everyone was using the silicon like yeah we even used them for a little bit you eat food out of them yourself you would just taste like soaps stuff that sink into the bowls and they can't really use it i mean they're great for kids because you can't break them but again it's not good for their health Exactly. And the good thing is, is that you could like suction them down on the table. That was their big thing. So the kids can't just throw them.
00:11:49
Speaker
But unfortunately then it's like the health picture. And I've seen some good ones around now where they're still the plastic silicone underneath, but then inside. is made of some type of metal. Oh, okay, cool. Probably stainless steel. So it's like you've got the stick and i can't remember the name of the brand, but I was like, brilliant. That's great. Same like Evie's Lunch.
00:12:08
Speaker
Yeah, we use the seed and sprout. Yeah. It's got a silicon lid. But the food doesn't touch it anyway. It's got the stainless steel, which is great. Yeah, and it's good. They can't break it. It's good at school. Obviously, we're not going to give her glass like she's in kindergarten. yeah And then you're just minimizing.
00:12:23
Speaker
Like they're still going to come into contact with plastic. We can't get away from it. but it's going to be a way better option. For sure. A key rule is to never heat food in plastic because it actually leeches the plastic more.
00:12:39
Speaker
So move to glass, stainless steel or ceramic wherever possible. Another note is actually we changed our teapot. I was actually gifted this beautiful teapot by Healthy Choice and they specifically use glass instead of plastics. They all also have a really cool... um Air fryer.
00:12:59
Speaker
yeah It's made from glass because a lot of them are made from like the Teflon. Yeah. Yeah. Which is so bad. And you're heating them up. Yeah. so You're heating them up hot. Especially kettles like every day. Kettle. Exactly. Just leaching all that plastic. So it's like obviously drinking more teas now. Got a ginger tea with me right now. And also having like raspberry leaf and everything. It's, um yeah, it's really important to be avoiding. Also, with your water bottles and your reusable keep cups, have we got something for you? If you go into Mungbin, you'll be able to see our best-selling water bottle, which is glass water bottle with a silicone sleeve and BPA-free straw top.
00:13:39
Speaker
It's amazing. Everybody loves them. And then we've also got, want to tell them? Yeah, we've got ten new keep cups. I don't think, yeah, we don't have an actual one out in here. but there Go and check them out. Yeah, check them out. Glass, silicone sleeve, hot and cold. Yeah. Yeah, they're really, really cool. And we wanted to have a little sister cup of our, or brother cup of our beautiful water bottle that's been so popular. So go and check them out, www.mongbeanhealth.com.
00:14:08
Speaker
Bedroom toxins. Yeah, let's talk about bedroom toxins. Your bedroom should be the lowest toxic. Space. Yeah, space that you have in your whole household because you're spending a lot of time in there. Yeah, and sleeping when you meant to be like.
00:14:20
Speaker
Rejuvenating. always struggle with that word. Your body's doing its work and detoxing. and yeah You're at rest so it's got time. It's like, thank God you're asleep so I can work on you. So hidden issues include flame retardants in mattresses, yeah synthetic bedding, scented detergents, mold, especially by behind bed heads. Like when you're sleeping, you're producing a lot of heat and getting sweaty and there's moisture and yeah, some people never clean behind their bed head be mold and dust. and And if you don't open the windows ever, don't let fresh air in.
00:14:53
Speaker
Yeah, it's not good. Toxic load at night equals poor sleep, high cortisol, low melatonin. If you wake up tired despite enough sleep, your environment matters a lot. Yeah, the environment definitely makes a huge difference. And some good ways to improve would be, obviously, if you're purchasing a new mattress, is opting for a low-tox mattress. Really popular ones are the Peace Lily Natural Latex.
00:15:19
Speaker
The Quokka beds or the organic mattresses. And there's another one we got for the boys because we had to buy new ones. It is the Eco Kids range, which has been for the boys' bunks. And it's just nice to know that they're not sucking in all of the rubbish that's around. You also want to be mindful of using different bed mattresses.
00:15:42
Speaker
What do you call it? Bedding. Yes. Like make sure that you're using like even linen or yeah just more organic options if you can. And just make sure there's fresh air in your room daily. So even if you don't like sleeping with the window open, open it in the day, getting some of that circulation happening. getting that fan on when the windows open, especially while it's been hot. And obviously, you know, not everyone's in a position where they can just run out and go and buy a new mattress. So definitely have it in mind for future. and Making sure that while you are waiting, you're doing those other things and using natural detergents on your bedding as well. Very important because you don't want to be chemical filled, putting it on the bed and then you're breathing it all in.

Choosing Natural Personal Care Products

00:16:25
Speaker
And then cleaning behind the bed regularly and any mold prone areas with vinegar and essential oils. Clove buds are nice one. We mentioned it before, the personal um care products. yeah Your skin absorbs what you put on it. It's your largest organ. The body is the skin. Exactly. So common offenders are parabens, aluminium in deodorants. Yep.
00:16:46
Speaker
And formaldehydes, which are used on new clothes, right, to keep the bugs off. Yeah, and they use flame retardants as well. It's, it's i think, lot. So you to wash your clothes before, and lot of people don't. But then again, it's like you have to wash it in natural detergents or natural powders because otherwise then you're just putting the chemicals on again. And then ah sunscreens is a huge one. There's a lot come out with them. Yes. it's so bad love sunday skin it's lust minerals sister company um so amazing it's hasn't been we haven't been down to the a beach the beach a lot this summer just being pregnant and it's just been on the days that we've wanted to go it's like not been that nice of weather but the kids have played in the backyard so many times and been in the sun we've used it on them and it's been so good and i know so many of you guys have already gotten onto it so definitely check out sunday skin if you need a new lotox sunscreen
00:17:37
Speaker
yeah All these chemicals, these can be a burden on your detox pathways and interfere with endocrine signaling. Definitely. Yeah. Start slow. It sounds like a lot. I feel when you're thinking about it, you're like oh my God, I've got all these chemicals in my house. ah Like, what do I do? I can't afford it right now to maybe go and change everything. It's okay. Just start slow. you don't need perfection. Even switching up your daily use items like deodorant.
00:17:59
Speaker
chuck your rubbish ones in the bin. Moisturiser, toothpaste, these can significantly reduce your exposure. yeah And um yeah, definitely cleaning up your diets as well. It's amazing to see when people do clean up their diets, but we need to remember the environment as well. So yeah and it's all about low tox, not no tox. You just can't physically get away from these days. So it's all about just minimizing to make it your life a little bit healthier. Yes. And your environment is just as toxic for you as your food.
00:18:33
Speaker
People think, oh, I've changed all my diet. I'm all good. But it's like, you have to also look at the environment around you. So if you are on a healing journey, do not forget this key aspect of And if you enjoyed this, you can check out our mold exposure podcast.
