Speaker: Welcome to the Solarpreneur Podcast, where we teach you to take your solar business to the next level.
Speaker: My name is Taylor Armstrong.
Speaker: I went from $50 in my bank account and struggling for groceries to closing 150 deals in a year and cracking the code on why sales reps fail.
Speaker: I teach you how to avoid the mistakes I made and bring in the top solar dogs of the industry to let you in on the secrets of generating more leads,
Speaker: falling up like a pro and closing more deals.
Speaker: What is a solopreneur you might ask?
Speaker: A solopreneur is a new breed of solopro that is willing to do whatever it takes to achieve mastery and you are about to become one.
Speaker: What's going on solopreneurs?
Speaker: We are back with another episode.
Speaker: We're going to be jamming on why you should sell like your time is running out.
Speaker: Okay, all that and a whole lot more.
Speaker: Welcome back to the podcast.
Speaker: My name is Taylor Armstrong.
Speaker: As usual, we're here to help you close more deals, generate more leads and referrals, and hopefully have a much better time in your solar cells journey.
Speaker: We are coming up on almost 400 episodes.
Speaker: Last I checked, we're at like 392 episodes, I believe.
Speaker: So a whole lot of content.
Speaker: I know if you are new, this can be overwhelming.
Speaker: We've had so many episodes, so many great guests on here.
Speaker: I'm in the works right now.
Speaker: I have a little listening guide because I realized that if you're new and seen almost 400 episodes, you're probably wondering, man, where should I start?
Speaker: This is like diving into the first book of Harry Potter or the first episode of Game of Thrones when there's like 12 seasons.
Speaker: It can be a lot.
Speaker: So if you're anything like me, sometimes you see so much content, so much to listen to, and you're like, man, I don't even know if I should start.
Speaker: I can't.
Speaker: How could I possibly ever listen to all these?
Speaker: But don't fear because we are working on a little starter guide, if you will, a summary of...
Speaker: or a compilation rather of all the best episodes, all the episodes you should listen to.
Speaker: So that's in the works.
Speaker: We're going to drop it here in a couple of weeks and y'all will be the first to know.
Speaker: So make sure you're tuning in and we're going to put that together a little, a PDF with some links, a little guidebook, help everybody out.
Speaker: And even if you're a long time listener,
Speaker: I'm going to give you guys the sauce, the best episodes I think that are worth re-listening to.
Speaker: So you can go and check them out.
Speaker: That being said, let's get into the topic of today.
Speaker: One more thing before we do that, wanted to thank our latest reviewer over on Apple.
Speaker: This is from Ari Fish, I believe.
Speaker: I think I'm saying that right.
Speaker: And it says, from solar zero to solar hero, solarpreneur is my battle flag.
Speaker: P.S.
Speaker: Send us your cash app instead.
Speaker: All right.
Speaker: I'll send you my cash app if you want.
Speaker: Okay.
Speaker: But appreciate the review, Ari Fish.
Speaker: He said, this is your solar academy, too, was, I guess, the first...
Speaker: uh topic line on there but it's much appreciated and you guys know i say this over and over but this is how the podcast continues to go is from kind reviews like that from messages i receive means so much and we are at 198 ratings and we got two more till 200 so if you are feeling generous in your heart today would appreciate your review and
Speaker: and just might do something special for the 200th reviewer.
Speaker: Okay, so if you happen to be the 200th review, I'm going to hit you up.
Speaker: Okay, so maybe go leave a review if you want to.
Speaker: But let's get into this.
Speaker: So today I want to talk about why you should sell like you're running out of time.
Speaker: I was just thinking about this and at the time of this recording, we are recording in November and
Speaker: We've got less than two months left in the entire year.
Speaker: And the time is flying by, goes by so fast.
Speaker: I've been doing this seven and a half years now since 2016.
Speaker: And one of my regrets in solar is that I did not always sell like I was running out of time.
Speaker: A lot of people know what happened in California.
Speaker: We had net metering 2.0.
Speaker: It was ending.
Speaker: It was going to net metering 3.0 and...
Speaker: You know, long story short, if you don't know what happened with that, basically now we're required to sell the systems with batteries, adds a lot of costs, adds time to the project.
Speaker: So before that, we could save people a lot more money.
Speaker: And I know so many people that made a killing because it was so easy to add urgency and we were literally running out of time to sell these systems without batteries.
Speaker: But I think I definitely could have taken advantage more of that.
Speaker: I could have pushed harder.
Speaker: I could have come up with a better strategy.
Speaker: I could have, I think, got my team going better.
Speaker: And I still sold a lot, don't get me wrong.
Speaker: But I know guys that sold like, you know, 100 plus deals in these three months before the deadline happened in April.
Speaker: So I just want to emphasize that we don't know what's going on with solar.
Speaker: It can change
Speaker: from month to month.
Speaker: We don't know what's going on with interest rates.
Speaker: We don't know what's going on with maybe there's going to be a panel shortage, tariffs added.
Speaker: It's happened to me.
Speaker: If there's one thing I've seen throughout my time in solar, I've seen so many ups and downs.
Speaker: That's the way they call it the solar coaster.
Speaker: So take it from me when you have a really good offering, which we do right now.
Speaker: And I think it'll continue to stay good.
Speaker: But
Speaker: you definitely want to treat it like solar might not be there tomorrow because that's how you're going to maximize your income.
Speaker: That's how you're going to maximize this opportunity.
Speaker: So if you're listening to this, what you sell today, assuming you're listening to this in November, but also if you're listening to this in the future, that's going to count towards Christmas.
Speaker: What you sell today probably
Speaker: assuming you're getting semi-quick installs, that's like, you know, a month and a half, which is pretty standard.
Speaker: If you're not getting that quick installs, hit me up.
Speaker: I'll get you an opportunity down here in San Diego.
Speaker: I can't get, can't promise you a job, but could probably get you an interview.
Speaker: So hit me up.
Speaker: But what you sell today is going to be Christmas for you, Christmas for your family.
Speaker: It's going to set you up for the new year.
Speaker: So how many of you are short on your income goals?
Speaker: How many of you have not made what you wanted to yet this year?
Speaker: If you answered yes to the meals, if you want to have a dope Christmas, if you want to spoil your family, if you want to get, I don't know, your friend, something sweet, whatever it is, then go sell today.
Speaker: Don't wait.
Speaker: Get out there today.
Speaker: Don't drag your feet.
Speaker: Make sure you take advantage of the opportunity you have right now.
Speaker: Okay, so that's just some thoughts I had with just building urgency because so many times it's so easy to get lazy in this industry, right?
Speaker: We make killer commissions.
Speaker: We can see $10,000, $20,000 checks roll in.
Speaker: Yeah, I see you guys even get $50,000, $60,000 checks for one.
Speaker: How easy is it to just sit back, relax, coast?
Speaker: Oh, I can just take it easy till the end of the year.
Speaker: Get back out there.
Speaker: No, get out there right now.
Speaker: What our company is doing, we have actually our biggest competition of the year right now strategically placed before Thanksgiving, which I thought is very smart.
Speaker: I thought it was genius.
Speaker: Okay, so our whole team, we're pushing insanely hard right now.
Speaker: We're on the doors by 10 a.m.
Speaker: We're pushing all day long.
Speaker: We're meeting up.
Speaker: Our group chat is just lit all the time.
Speaker: Okay, these are all things I think are factors, are keys to a successful organization.
Speaker: Do you have your group chat popping off?
Speaker: Hey, are you a small company?
Speaker: Maybe you don't have too many people, but get your group chats, your group me.
Speaker: Most people I know use group me.
Speaker: Make sure people are bought in, have it popping off.
Speaker: Because one thing I know, if I'm being lazy, if I'm taking a break, if I'm at a gas station and I see our group chat just popping off with sales, popping off with appointments booked, popping off with utility bills being sent in, then I'm feeling bad about myself.
Speaker: I'm like, man, what am I doing?
Speaker: Why am I out here chilling at a gas station when people are going nuts?
Speaker: Okay, so get your group chat going.
Speaker: If you are a owner, if you are a manager, whatever, I would definitely consider doing a competition around the slow season, what some would call a slow season.
Speaker: It doesn't have to be a slow season.
Speaker: Throw in a competition now before Thanksgiving.
Speaker: Hey, and another key with this is you should know what days are you taking off for holidays?
Speaker: Or even if you're not listening to this around the holidays, what days are you taking off for a month?
Speaker: When are your vacations?
Speaker: It's something I see all the time where guys take off days, maybe have a day off.
Speaker: And then you got the vacation coming up.
Speaker: I was talking with a guy that's in our coaching group and we had this conversation where
Speaker: He had a buddy's wedding coming up.
Speaker: He usually takes Mondays off.
Speaker: That's just kind of catch up day.
Speaker: But then he had a wedding coming up.
Speaker: And I think he had some other stuff going on later that month.
Speaker: So we got to talking and I'm like, dude, you got lots of time coming up that you know you're going to be on.
Speaker: You should not be taking that Monday off.
Speaker: You got to grind.
Speaker: You got to get out there and grind.
Speaker: I think it's something he didn't think about.
Speaker: I make this mistake sometimes where I get in this habit of, okay, I know I'm going to take this time off.
Speaker: I know this day is usually I'm not pushing this hard, whatever, playing catch up, doing account management, but it helps to have this stuff planned in advance.
Speaker: So, you know, okay, maybe you shouldn't take that time off.
Speaker: If you know you have a six day vacation coming up, don't take the time off.
Speaker: Hey, figure out when your vacations are and adjust accordingly.
Speaker: So a little bit of a ramble here.
Speaker: Sorry to get off on a few different topics.
Speaker: But the point of all this is sell like your life depends on it because it does sell like you're running, running out of time because you are and get out there, push hard,
Speaker: Take no prisoners.
Speaker: Make sure you just leave it all out on the court, all out on the battlefield.
Speaker: And that's the topic for today.
Speaker: Hope that helps.
Speaker: And we're going to be having some sweet guests on.
Speaker: Make sure you tune in to the...
Speaker: upcoming episodes.
Speaker: Hope you enjoyed, by the way, Halloween too.
Speaker: We just had Halloween here.
Speaker: It's the best day to knock doors, right?
Speaker: The one day of the year where people love door knockers.
Speaker: So hopefully you got to knock some doors.
Speaker: I took my kids out trick-or-treating and was just teaching them how to be a professional door knocker.
Speaker: You know, we were seeing people walk on the sidewalks and I'm like, no, we're not walking on the sidewalks.
Speaker: We're cutting through yards and
Speaker: We're making sure we're hitting homes with lights on, looking for signs of life.
Speaker: We're mapping out the route we're going to go trick or treating.
Speaker: This thing is a strategy.
Speaker: So I hope you yeah, anyone who's listening, I hope you get the opportunity to take some kids out trick or training because you can show them what it means to be a professional door knocker.
Speaker: And if you're not knocking doors, I would encourage everyone to do it.
Speaker: I know some people listen to this podcast that maybe don't knock on doors as much, but I think knocking on doors is going to improve so many different aspects of your solar cells game, of your closing ability and just life in general.
Speaker: Hey, so I hope this helps today.
Speaker: We're going to end it here before I start rambling again too much.
Speaker: But thanks for tuning in.
Speaker: We're going to be working on this episode guide.
Speaker: It's going to be releasing soon if you want a guide to the best episodes that we've had, that we've produced over here at Solarepreneur in the past almost 400 episodes now.
Speaker: So stay tuned for that.
Speaker: Keep killing it.
Speaker: Go out and get some sales today and we'll see you on the next one.
Speaker: Peace out.
Speaker: What's up, Solopreneurs?
Speaker: Hope you enjoyed the episode.
Speaker: Before you run out and start selling more solar yourself, wanted to let you know about an exciting new cheat sheet we created specifically for you in mind.
Speaker: One of the top questions I get asked on Instagram, on Facebook, by our listeners is, Taylor, where should I start?
Speaker: What episodes should I listen to in the podcast?
Speaker: You got too many podcasts, man, because now we have over 200 episodes.
Speaker: So what we've done, we created the top 10 most downloaded, most listened to, and I would say widely accepted, most useful podcasts that we've done here on Solarpreneur.
Speaker: We put them together all in one sheet so you can go, you can hit the ground running, especially if you're new, you do not want to not have this sheet.
Speaker: So go download it right now.
Speaker: It's going to be at top10.solarpreneurs.com.
Speaker: Again, that's top10, the number 10,.solarpreneurs.com.
Speaker: Don't forget the S on solarpreneurs.
Speaker: We will have that in the show notes.
Speaker: Go download it right now.
Speaker: And especially if you have not listened to them, go listen to them and you can re-listen to them.
Speaker: That's going to show you how.
Speaker: So go download it and we'll see you on the other side.
