Hello and welcome to the Daily Brighton Podcast. It is your boy Jamie G, joined by Joe Richardson and Blessings Chibamba. Boy, what a weekend it's been.

Brighton's Win Over Chelsea in the FA Cup

00:00:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Brighton through to the next round of the f FA Cup. Vengeance against Chelsea over avenging that 4-2 loss we had earlier in the season.
00:00:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
The seagulls have also risen and bounced back from the embarrassing 7-0 loss. What a time to be alive. A competition we could still win. and we have truly stuck it to Cucarilla, Sanchez, Sisado.
00:00:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Have that, you traitors. Am I right, guys? it Guys, let me get your thoughts on the game.
00:00:55
blessings
not
00:00:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Blessed you were there.
00:00:56
blessings
love that yeah I know firstly honourable shout out to the pies there they do good pies out of chicken and gammon and a few points as well um yeah chicken and gammon it was it was decent
00:00:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let me know what it what the atmosphere was like and what your thoughts were on the game.
00:01:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mmm, let's try the whole menu.
00:01:14
Joe
chicken and gammon pie that's chicken and sea go lad that's mad
00:01:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah what
00:01:21
blessings
um But in terms of ah on on the pitch, I think Brighton were really impressive. um You can tell they've definitely had a bit of a kick in from Hertzler and they were they were actually structured and quite disciplined at times as well. um I think my main concern again was going to be the midfield or the lack of midfield and to see Berleber back in definitely, he definitely made a massive impact to how everyone felt at the start of the game.

Midfield Impact: Belieber and Hincherwood

00:01:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, Belieber and Hincherwood, I actually felt played pretty, like they were very solid in that midfield ah together, which is, yeah, like you like you said on the preview board, that was kind of where the battle was going to be won and lost, how they could stop Palmer, how they could kind of control Sisado. And then we also, my shout out of Kieran Drusbury Hall actually started. That was ah pat on the back for me. Joe, what did you think of Hincherwood and Belieber's performance?
00:02:18
Joe
to um make The difference that it makes having a believer in there, it is insane. lait Because with him, it's not even... ah Don't get me wrong, like but let we speak about him so highly on here. Loads of people also outside of Brighton and other teams are sort of like looking at him and sort of thinking, like okay, this guy's going to be... sort of He's going to move soon, basically. But like it's not he does have some moments where he's like a little bit...
00:02:48
Joe
He makes a little bit of like silly decisions sometimes, but the just general like sort of change it has on our team and he plays like he can get the ball under pressure turn and then literally start a complete like to start the attack on his own. Like one pass into him, he turns out evades pressure and then next thing you know we're on the attack and I mean, he, even though he's willing to sort of do that dirty work himself, he does need someone in there. um I am still, this is going to be a bit of a hot take. I am still wondering what Jack Hintrowood actually does and like what sort of actual like the profile midfielder that he is. um Because with a Ari, I feel like Ari has more technical ability, but also loves to get himself around as well.
00:03:38
Joe
Whereas like Hintrowood I feel like is sort of just okay at everything. Do you know what I mean? Like he's just okay at everything.
00:03:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:03:45
Joe
But that compliments being next to Belabor anyway. It was a better performance from Hintrowood to be fair. Something that we've been waiting to see for a long time.
00:03:57
Joe
And I mean, to be fair, fair play to him for playing in all the different positions and stuff like that. But it was so much better than it was. against Forrest, honestly, but I mean, me, me, you and Bless in a bit, feel free. ah Probably would probably do a better job. Honestly, I'm not gonna lie. So it is good. It is nice to see some actual structure. I mean,
00:04:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah I think that's what you mentioned what does Hincherwood kind of bring. I was the like trying to find, I was also like during the game trying to like think what does he do and I think he didn't give the ball away basically the entire

Defensive Strategies Against Chelsea

00:04:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
game. I think he maybe was, I can remember one time he actually lost the ball and I should probably check the stats on that but Yeah, I feel like he just keeps things ticking. And that's kind of what he's there for. Beliebers there is like this, the gem to get moves going to break up play. And also, like you say, boy, what a difference it makes to have him alongside and like hit him back into the lineup because
00:05:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
there was so much more discipline, so much more structure to that midfield than we saw against Nottingham Forest, although it wasn't hard. And Hinchel would definitely need someone to put, he can't be a roger-y type where he plays in that position by himself, like he is nowhere near that standard.
00:05:14
Joe
Absolutely
00:05:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
But alongside someone that can do a lot of the work alongside him, then I think that's where he does kind of shine. So I feel like his positioning, his discipline, I think they were very,
00:05:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Both Belieber and Hinchwood supported the defence this game so well because Chelsea only had seven shots if you look at the stats. And there wasn't really many times I ever felt like they were the ah our goal was under threat or they were had like a real clear cut chance.
00:05:38
Joe
yeah
00:05:43
Joe
Yeah.
00:05:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, their goal comes, we'll talk about that in a minute, their goal comes from basically nothing. But I feel like that...
00:05:54
Joe
Cole Palmer was Pete though, I've got a good eye. Cole Palmer was actually, Cole Palmer's ass that game.
00:05:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
oh
00:05:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, exactly.
00:05:59
Joe
Yeah.
00:05:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
And maybe that's because Hinchwood, and to Belieber, maybe we'll give ourselves some credit ah you here and there. But yeah, I feel like that's, they they were just, this game, we were very much more, let's try and defend a win.
00:06:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's try and play really structured, really disciplined. And that's, and then just do them on the counter attack as well. I felt like, and that really worked today. ah Bless, how did you see it?
00:06:26
blessings
Yeah, I thought, you know, first couple of minutes, you could there was sort of a feeling of nerves in terms of just the result would just come back off.
00:06:37
blessings
um but they settled down quite quickly and I thought ah one thing I was really impressed I know Jo you've highlighted Hincherwood again I spotted some really good some really neat passes as well in there just really fits in the ball looking after it and I don't mind a sort of all-rounder Connor Midfielder who who works up and down in both boxes.
00:07:01
blessings
I think maybe if he added maybe some goals that um to his game, then it it makes him you know stand out a little bit more. But yeah, he seems like he does all the little things correctly and and never really stands out because he doesn't do anything to wow you, but he's doing all the little things really well, which is really good.
00:07:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm.
00:07:21
blessings
um Again, as well, yeah I don't really recall a lot of Chelsea chances or Brighton being under siege at all.
00:07:28
Joe
Mm hmm.
00:07:31
blessings
I thought it was a really, really disciplined performance from um the seagulls, to be honest.
00:07:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, one thing you touched on there is how nervous they were to begin with. I kind of felt that. And one person that was looked particularly nervous was

Analyzing Vibruggen's Error

00:07:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Vibruggen.
00:07:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
And Joe, we let's let's get your opinion on the goal. What an absolute howler from Vibruggen to start things off. Five minutes in, after a 7-0 loss, I was thinking when that went in, ah not the not again, please, not again.
00:08:02
Joe
yeah ah Yeah, it's just come from nothing really.
00:08:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
What were you thinking?
00:08:06
Joe
It's just a ball over the top from Palmer and then maybe it's at the moment, he can't catch a cold. But like at the moment, all of his... So the mistakes that I've seen from him have been sort of like the holy trinity of mistakes.
00:08:19
Joe
So it's like handling of a ball and then the passing and then also like being beaten at like your near post and like some shot stopping errors, which are like,
00:08:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:08:33
Joe
shot stopping errors are probably like the most like the least common one that you'll see because in the in the Premier League most goalkeepers even some of the like ones who are like really like prone to mistakes don't make loads of mistakes in terms of like um weak sort of like hitting it away saving it weak and then it like goes in anyway or whatever and yeah it just seems that he's a bit devoid of confidence at the moment I was thinking about it, when we were speaking in our group chat about it, I was thinking like, it reminds me, at the moment, he's reminding me a little bit of Aaron Ramsdale.
00:09:09
Joe
Like, do you know when Aaron Ramsdale has those?
00:09:09
blessings
Oh no.
00:09:11
Joe
I know, exactly. And I don't rate Aaron Ramsdale at all. and I've never rated him, I never thought he was good. But like, it's just a, you know, Aaron Ramsdale does have that really big save in him, like that really good save in him.
00:09:24
Joe
And my brother still has that, but like, it's just, really poor errors and it must just be from the form of the team in general and the defence being under siege a lot more and obviously sort of coming off the back of probably a couple mistakes in the last few weeks.
00:09:42
Joe
ah It wasn't it wasn' a great. He's also like when he's made contact with catching the ball, the ball is not going in the goal.
00:09:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:09:49
Joe
So the ball has ended up in the goal from not going anywhere near the goal.
00:09:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it was.
00:09:54
Joe
It was going to come across the face He's tried to bring it into his chest, and it's hit a nipple and just gone in, mate. It's Pete. yeah
00:10:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it was actually, it came from absolutely nothing. That's the most infuriating thing. It was like a square ball Palmer put in there. No one else was in there. And it's such an easy claim. Like, ah but especially for Premier League standards. It's an easy claim for Sunday League standards, to be honest. That's the only place you should see that kind of mistake. National League, I think they stamp that out. And then to see it in the Premier League,
00:10:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
oh that is just and like you say he's so void of confidence bless what was the atmosphere like in the stadium when that went in did all the fans heads go down
00:10:39
blessings
um Yeah, I did feel it was going to turn sour because it's it it is a massive mistake and everyone sort of, you can't really hide anywhere when you're a goalkeeper.
00:10:50
blessings
um But the fans didn't turn sour. They carried on supporting. And I think the most important thing was not to obviously concede another one or maybe start sitting back and letting Chelsea parlour more pressure. I think they they kept quite steady and kept that nerve to then create a chance to get back into the game, which was impressive, to be honest. Because quite early on, a massive mistake. Yeah, it didn't feel like a read ah ah great start, to be honest.
00:11:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah and good good to see that they were still supportive because it was a quick response by the seagulls and we will touch on that goal after this break.
00:12:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
And we are back with the Daily Brighton podcast. I mentioned that quick response.

Rooter and Matoma's Key Goals

00:12:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
It was 11 minutes in and Rooter levelled the playing field. He got the equaliser and what a header it was. Bless. I'll come to you. What did you make of the goal?
00:12:18
blessings
Yeah I thought it was a brilliant finish, really good header. I've spoken, we've spoken, we've spoken a lot about return, one him wanting him to actually start scoring some goals and contributing in the attacking position so I was really impressed with the ah finish um and it's exactly, I think the timing was really important and as well, it's exactly what we sort of needed to just ah sort of move on from that that error at the back and be on level terms before the break it was really important I thought um yeah I don't know it's it's a weird one I i always thought it's good in the air but we haven't really seen much of it I don't know what you guys think
00:13:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, well, ah i because I thought that as well when he scored the header. He took it so well. I looked up when his last header goal was. It was against Chelsea and that 4-2 lost.
00:13:11
blessings
You never start me.
00:13:13
Joe
ti them
00:13:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
I love it, mate. The background. It was against Chelsea, the 4-2 loss.
00:13:17
blessings
Where'd you find that?
00:13:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, he loves scoring against Chelsea and Chelsea seemingly can't defend router headers. Joe, what did you think of the goal?
00:13:27
Joe
no it's a class goal to be fair like it's it's very difficult to sort of um i'm not going to say what i was originally going to say um it's it's quite like i was going to say it it's quite um like difficult to manipulate your neck like that um
00:13:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
it's yeah veryre Nice. That's an interesting sign.
00:13:51
Joe
Pause.
00:13:51
blessings
What?
00:13:52
Joe
oh ah Pause.
00:13:52
blessings
He said he had noise as well.
00:13:54
Joe
Pause. Pause. We're such children by the way, Jesus Christ. Yeah, so it's really hard to do that. so um
00:14:06
blessings
oh
00:14:06
Joe
um But like the finish is is excellent.
00:14:10
Joe
You know, I'm rattling, but I'm saying excellent. I've never said that before in my life. It was a really good finish, mate. Yeah. um And, do you know what? He actually, it on terms of Ritter anyway, and I'll be serious. He actually reminds me a little bit of, um ah this is going to be a mashup. Stop me if I'm wrong. But he reminds me a little bit of Kunya, just the sort of like style of player that he is. but He likes to drop in deep, find it in like little wide pockets. He can beat a player. He's quite a powerful runner. He's awful at tackling. I've never seen anyone maybe as bad at tackling as him, mate, because he just throws his whole body into challenges, mate. And then when the ref blows up, he's like,
00:14:47
Joe
There you are.
00:14:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
it
00:14:48
Joe
But um he's a really taken well to, the like the fans love him. He's actually really funny as well in loads of the like social media clips I've seen. um He really understands like the sort of way that
00:14:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm.
00:15:02
Joe
we want that we take to our players and yeah hopefully he sort of finds that a little ah little bit more goal scoring and he can't really ask anything more because he works so hard off the ball he keeps the ball he can beat a couple man so it's exciting to watch but he just needs to score a little bit more and then it's calm.
00:15:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah I actually thought it was an interesting decision as well and I might have been a bit... I was kind of shocked by it but then I guess not too shocked based on the result we just had that he started and Pedro didn't but I was... I don't know why that was because I thought Pedro was like terrible against Not in Forest and maybe that was, Herzler dropped him on performance or maybe Herzler just wanted rotation for the FA Cup.
00:15:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
But then, because you could kind of say they were both just as bad as each other against Not in Forest.
00:15:50
Joe
Ritter was, Ritter wasn't as bad. I don't know if the job picture was literally wasn't even in the game at all.
00:15:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think he was slightly better, yeah.
00:15:53
blessings
Yeah. ah I think with Ruta, it's the work rate that's really important, which Al Pedro against Forest, he did not track, he did not work hard enough.
00:15:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:16:00
Joe
Yeah.
00:16:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:16:04
Joe
No, no, I feel I feel like Jeff Edges like he the one foot out the door, mate, I'll be honest.
00:16:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Um.
00:16:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
it
00:16:11
blessings
he Is he on fraud watch?
00:16:13
Joe
Yeah, he's he's on he's on fraud watch, but I mean, but you can't be on fraud watch when you're trying to plot a move to go somewhere else.
00:16:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm putting on fraud watch.
00:16:17
blessings
Got to keep an eye out on him.
00:16:23
Joe
Do you know what I mean? Like you actually just can't be, mate, because M folks are on fraud watch and look at his value now. So West Ham.
00:16:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's basically out the door too.
00:16:37
Joe
doll yeah oh so confused then as to what you were saying no it's actually it's actually a good segue to be
00:16:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
But who needs him when you've got the £90 million pound man to score goals as well?
00:16:39
blessings
Yeah.
00:16:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Maybe he's coming into some form. Metoma got us the winner. What did we make of that?
00:16:50
blessings
what What's he on about?
00:16:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
I was trying to segue, but it didn't segue great. or Yeah, what a lovely little chip that was. And that was made by Ruta.
00:17:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
So Ruta with a goal and assist today. mate well performance and we'll touch on him a bit uh in the next segment as well just to keep on some more praise yeah plus just uh take this away from me before i say anything else sus uh what did you make of the second goal the winner
00:17:09
Joe
so Surely a pause there.
00:17:11
blessings
Yeah, Matoma is a little bit like Ruta for me as well.
00:17:11
Joe
Yeah, where's the pause? Why touch a lot of them? That's weird.
00:17:32
blessings
Another player, we can see star quality in them, but it's just not consistent. So for him to get on the score sheet in a big game and actually be decisive in a game that like that, it was really good to see.
00:17:44
blessings
Their assist as well was really nice. And they yeah, it was a calm finish, class finish. Little dink over the Sanchez. He was shocking as well, to be fair.
00:17:54
Joe
so far
00:17:57
blessings
That's what I was surprised with anyway.
00:17:57
Joe
okay He's actually one of the worst goalkeepers in the league.
00:17:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
there's yeah
00:18:00
Joe
it inside
00:18:00
blessings
Yeah, he got booed quite a lot.
00:18:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Honestly, yeah.
00:18:04
blessings
Kukarela got it the worst probably.
00:18:06
Joe
Kickarilla got clamped by Veltman.
00:18:09
blessings
and Yeah.
00:18:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, deserved it. That was good.
00:18:13
Joe
Veltman's come away with an assist and basically that's basically a goal. tackle girl Absolutely nowhere near the ball.
00:18:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:18:19
Joe
anyway sorry go
00:18:21
blessings
Yeah.
00:18:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
It was nothing that had bought and acted like, really?
00:18:21
blessings
so
00:18:26
Joe
yeah yeah ah yeah but what are you trying to do
00:18:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
That was a foul. Yeah.
00:18:28
blessings
You can't do that.
00:18:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
it yeah
00:18:30
blessings
You all do it though, don't they?
00:18:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
So great. But I've said it before, does Metoma have the best first touch in the whole world? He did it, he pulled out another first touch with that little chest because the ball was like, I don't know how he's, well, it Ruta cuts out and then the chest sit, but like well ahead of him and like goes straight into his path.
00:18:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
I thought I was unbelievable.
00:18:56
Joe
I thought the off to recap his hand and bounced into his path though.
00:19:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
That was just before.
00:19:01
blessings
No, no.
00:19:02
Joe
Oh so that happens then Ritter puts the ball through to him.
00:19:02
blessings
Yeah.
00:19:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
then routeta then they kind of try clearing it.
00:19:05
blessings
yeah
00:19:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Rooter intercepts the clearance, plays it out to a difficult ball, to a metoma.
00:19:12
Joe
ah I let you but um was literally watching the game.
00:19:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
A metoma like...
00:19:16
Joe
I don't know what thought that what was going on there.
00:19:18
blessings
Yeah. it It was weird because it was like.
00:19:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then a metoma, yeah, like chests it. Bles looked at me like it wasn't a good touch. I mean, I thought it was class touch. Straight into his path to let him chip the keeper.
00:19:26
blessings
Yeah.
00:19:29
blessings
yeah it was a good touch but i was just confused with the way you explained it because basically how i saw it is it was quite high up so he's basically jumped quite he's jumped to chest it sort of come off his shoulder upper chest area um but but it was a good touch and it fell straight into his um his path and he loved the keeper so good finish again
00:19:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm. Yeah. Yeah.
00:19:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:19:56
Joe
Do you want to explain any more about how chessing a ball works?
00:19:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:20:02
Joe
Because you're both your both on the camera going like this.
00:20:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah he did it
00:20:05
Joe
Trying to show me about the chess of football, mate.
00:20:05
blessings
ah
00:20:09
blessings
No, because it was unorthodox, wasn't it? You know what I mean to you?
00:20:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
It was, it was. It wasn't a traditional chest.
00:20:14
blessings
There we go.
00:20:15
Joe
Oh, that yeah.
00:20:16
blessings
Traditional chess is mad.
00:20:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think on that note we'll hit the next ad break and we will go to our players that we were impressed by.
00:20:17
Joe
To just loot chess is crazy. um
00:21:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
And we are back with a Daily Brighton podcast. And as mentioned, Bless went to the first game that any of us have gone to this season at the ground, which was managed to get tickets, which we all should keep trying to get tickets because he has gone outside the stadium, interviewed Adam and Reggie, and this is what they thought of the game.
00:21:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's an honor.
00:22:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
And that was blessed after six pints of gammon pie. That's a lot of grub, and just before a night out. ah But yeah, we've got a touch on Reggie's guy. It was, it was Rooter's show, a golden assist. We've praised him already in this podcast, but boy, what a performance he had.
00:22:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah I thought one of the things that just stuck out to me is, like like we said before, just constantly hounding the defenders. I mean, he had one chance in the... just before halftime where he tackled Tosin and then he was like basically through and then but no one's kind of supported him to get to get another goal for us but that's kind of just shows what he's so capable of and then even in tight areas he was good keeping the ball managed to constantly play out wide to Matoma and Minter and just all round was an absolute nuisance for the Chelsea defenders uh Sisada as well uh and yeah
00:23:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
found those little pockets where he could be effective, which is something we haven't seen lately. I'll put i'll say that. Anyone want to go?
00:23:24
Joe
Oh mate, you you be lagged for a bit though, so we didn't know what you were saying.
00:23:26
blessings
yeah he' stopp dinner it
00:23:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Sorry. Jo, what do you think?
00:23:29
Joe
um Yeah, I think, um yeah, everyone in that clip must have been on, even the kid might have been on Six Pints, mate, honestly. I think mate here, what's his name? Adam.
00:23:40
blessings
ah do
00:23:40
Joe
He sounded like he wanted to give me a kiss, mate.
00:23:43
Joe
Man said they showed compassion. What?
00:23:44
blessings
he He said they showed love as well. I'm thinking what?
00:23:46
Joe
Yeah, they showed love. What is going on, mate? You're lucky you didn't get lipped up by Adam, mate. But yeah, no, yeah, Ritter was Ritter was classmate and like the sort of role that he plays and like, um sort of, yeah because he it can play across the whole of the sort of like front line, he If he's out wide, he picks up really awkward positions for defenders to pick up, because he'll drift inside.
00:24:17
Joe
If he plays in the middle, he can just appear out in wide positions to sort of support. And i he's just a nuisance to pick up. Also, you feel like as soon as you lose possession, he's going to be biting back at you like almost instantly, and which he did like multiple times.
00:24:34
Joe
um He clamped Kaisela a few times, which was class. Didn't get anywhere near the ball, but it was It was still class regardless.
00:24:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:24:41
Joe
um But like, it's just the, this is, as a fan, all you want from your players is basically to essentially like, you just want them to work.
00:24:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Try.
00:24:54
Joe
That's it.
00:24:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:24:55
Joe
Yeah. You just want to try.
00:24:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:24:56
Joe
So so make it seem like you care.
00:24:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
So simple.
00:24:58
Joe
Like if you, if you look at um the way that like Nunes is received at Liverpool, like for example, like he has, he barely scores and he's a striker and the fans basically chant his name almost all the time on Twitter. They're always going on about him all the time. um Whereas like ah loads of other players don't get that sort of reception if you're in that position and you don't score a ton of goals. I think it's been a successful first season for him.

Ritter and Lamptey's Potential

00:25:25
Joe
um And I think that the more that he plays and I feel like performances like this will sort of put him, make him start more games and the more he get used to the team and stuff like that. Because obviously new manager,
00:25:38
Joe
new team, new system, all that stuff. Go for a peak time at the moment. Hopefully we see them kick on now.
00:25:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think it's also good preparation for like a life after Pedro because you know Pedro isn't gonna stick around forever and he
00:25:54
Joe
no
00:25:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
is he's shown a couple to like many a time this season that he's actually sometimes better than Pedro he works definitely harder maybe maybe less technical or maybe less ability but work rate is most certainly there the finishing we've seen today there and then the ability to get the ball out into those dangerous areas is also there so i think that's another good thing about router is it's it's good to see him like a successor to Pedro and if we do decide to cash in if a team does come call them. Another player I want to also mention he's received a lot of criticism on this podcast
00:26:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
But to Rick Lamptey, he's clearly been listening to this podcast. He's taking it on board. He's taking it on the chin. And boy, what a performance to Rick Lamptey. That deserves all the credit. I've got to say, we have cussed him out last week. Big time.
00:26:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
We said he wasn't worth £1 million pounds to Ajax and that he would struggle in that league. He's come back against Pedro Neto where, I'm not gonna lie, the ball kept on going out to him. I did feel a bit bad for him because they were targeting him big time. Pedro Neto was on the ball and that's where all their attacks kind of came from and he lived up to it like he showed that I might have a bad game here and there, but Joe Richardson, you can shut up on the Daily Brighton podcast because I'm actually decent and I deserve to stay here. Bless. What did you make of him and what did the fans in the stadium make of his performance?
00:27:34
blessings
Yeah, it's quite funny, actually, because before kickoff, when I really when i saw that Tariq Lamptey starting, I was speaking to some fans and um I was telling them, oh, it's no good, like we need a new left back.
00:27:44
blessings
And one of them was adamant that he was Tariq Lamptey, he's very good. And I was like, have we been watching the same games?
00:27:49
Joe
That guy's an idiot.
00:27:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:27:52
blessings
Generally, he was like, yeah, he could definitely play for a top side in the Premier League.
00:27:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
No.
00:27:57
blessings
And I'm like, what?
00:27:58
Joe
Yeah, mad.
00:27:59
blessings
So we spent 10 minutes of him trying to convince me. And I'm like, no, did you not watch the forest game? And he's like, yeah, that was just a one off.
00:28:06
Joe
Nah, lads.
00:28:07
blessings
um But then, yeah.
00:28:08
Joe
What's in those pies that you love eating, mate?
00:28:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm.
00:28:10
Joe
Because my guy is chatting a wasp where that is absolute cat.
00:28:14
blessings
It did not help my case that Tariq Lamptey just came out and performed the way he did. And I think he... I know we spoke about Ruta as our man in the match. I thought Ruta was man in the match, but I think Lamptey was ITV's man in the match.
00:28:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:28:29
blessings
So, yeah.
00:28:29
Joe
what He was confirmed, yeah, he was confirmed, yeah.
00:28:31
blessings
He he was very good and I had to sort of eat some humble pie at the end.
00:28:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:28:36
Joe
Awesome Chicken and Gamma Boy.
00:28:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
each
00:28:39
blessings
I was free.
00:28:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah yeah
00:28:43
Joe
Are you going to come to me or can i just kind can I just go?
00:28:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, yeah. What else do you want to take?
00:28:47
Joe
Yeah, he's still rubbish, mate. I'm not going to lie. Let's not sugarcoat it, mate, honestly.
00:28:52
blessings
So praise, my praise is due, come on.
00:28:52
Joe
like You know, I know that's funny. The funny thing is, is that I said that as well. I said, I don't mind changing my opinion on a player, but it has only been one game. And also he still showed like the he still showed those like bits of his game where he's just an idiot. Like there's there was a bit quite early on, actually. um And I feel like it was Pedro Neto actually that had the space to run into, but he's just tried to press the ball in the most stupid position. And he's just been bypassing like two passes.
00:29:22
Joe
um But I am going to actually praise him um and say that I think he'd done a good job against Madawake, even though I think Madawake is garbage. um Pedro Neto's knees are made of crispy bacon, mate but I still think that they're very direct wingers. They're going to just go at you and go at you and go at you until you basically get sick of it and eventually let them get past you like once.
00:29:51
Joe
and Um, the thing is, is that I feel like his profile as a left back, um, or right back, whatever, um, his, as a full back is very suited to those sort of players because Lamptey is rapid. He also has very tenacious. I think that also comes as like a bit of a, like it's a bit of a boon against him as well at the same time, but like he's very tenacious. So it does sort of work for him, but he was, he was very, very good to be fair. Um,
00:30:22
Joe
Not very, very good, I think it's cut. He was good, basically.
00:30:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think but you mentioned that like he had he was man of the match for ITV and I think he did put in one of the better performances of anyone on the but on the on the pitch to be fair, in my personal opinion, but like you say,
00:30:26
Joe
Yeah.
00:30:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
He still wasn't faultless. It was that but point that you were alluding to, Joe, where he was beaten, four minutes in.
00:30:47
Joe
No. Mm hmm.
00:30:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
And that's kind of where I went. I dried it down. It was four minutes in.
00:30:56
Joe
Yeah.
00:30:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
He got he just decided to sprint at Neto. Neto just does him with a dummy on the halfway line and then he's way out of position and they're three on two and it's like oh that's when I was kind of thinking oh not again I can't believe we've let Torit Lamptey come onto the pitch but then he really did pick up a like buck up his ideas and then he was solid like in terms of tackling in terms of getting the ball up the pitch as well ah but my fault it still is there
00:30:59
Joe
Yeah.
00:31:02
blessings
No.
00:31:05
Joe
Yeah.
00:31:15
Joe
Yeah.
00:31:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
my fault with him and my problem with him playing fallback and this is coming from someone that is also five foot six it's the balls are so easy to get to the winger because they just play a lofted ball over him and he can't win a header send the wingers 1v1 on him the whole time and that happens so often and it's like at this level, because the Premier League players can just pick a pass, like, ah to pinpoint that the opposition's feet. It's like, that just happens over and over and over again. And that's why he was targeted so much. So you could see Chelsea were clearly thinking, nice, like, even late on in the game, when Maddie Wakey was in, they were like, oh, yeah, still carry on running at Tariq Lampte. I don't care if he's having the best game of his life, he's still prone to a mistake.
00:32:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
it's still easy to get the ball out to him and that's kind of my problem with him but credit where credit is due he proved us wrong we have to eat some humble pie what a performance it was from him any other stars or standout performances that you guys saw quickly
00:32:13
Joe
yeah
00:32:29
blessings
Yeah, I've got one um shout out to Gomez, I thought when he came on he was was actually pretty good.
00:32:33
Joe
yeah team's class yeah
00:32:35
blessings
um Looks a bit like a Yari as well, I was like, my own envisioning.

Gomez and Minter's Defensive Contributions

00:32:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
it
00:32:40
blessings
But yeah, he he he looked after the ball really well and got back the pitch.
00:32:45
Joe
Yeah, um so my my one's Minthe.
00:32:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, yeah.
00:32:49
Joe
Minthe is potentially a better right back than Tariq Lamptey. That defensive work that he puts in is insane. um Would be lovely if down the other end he's given a little bit.
00:33:01
Joe
Just give me something, mate. I feel like ah feel like he's dangerous, but I feel like when he gets into those dangerous positions, he makes with the wrong decisions.
00:33:12
Joe
Um, that could be, that could be fixed to be fair. Um, but yeah, I think the defensive work he puts in there, he's always there, always, always back.
00:33:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:33:23
Joe
And to be fair, mate, like the timing of his tackling this stuff is actually pretty elite for a winger. Um, obviously not probably what he wants to hear. Listen, Mentor, you're sick as a right bat.
00:33:34
Joe
That's what we go. I'm not sure, mate, but like, yeah, um, I think, yeah, him and Gomez would have been my two to be fair.
00:33:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah but them it Yeah.
00:33:40
Joe
Where's Whiffer? Where is Whiffer, honestly?
00:33:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't want to see him, especially with Gomez performing like he did.
00:33:44
blessings
I did start looking for I saw him out
00:33:46
Joe
Did you find him, Bluff? No, I think he was...
00:33:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
okay
00:33:49
Joe
He had it at first, like, he's gone missing.
00:33:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's out in Brighton. He's out in Brighton with Les. He didn't join us once in the past.
00:33:54
Joe
Oh, damn.
00:33:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
But I'm glad you two brought up those. What was that?
00:34:01
blessings
i'll be fuming if i saw him out
00:34:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
to get on the training pitch, if you do see him out. But yeah, I'm glad you actually mentioned those, because those are the two that I jotted down. ah Gomez, when he came on, he looks very... And Beth, bless, you were cussing them out against Nottingham Forest. I said, I see something there. You know, though the game got better, even though we lost 4-0 in the second half when him and O'Reilly came on.
00:34:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
And he just needs to play like he did today and show flashes. ah And yeah, Minter's defense. I've actually got it in caps here. Minter's defense.
00:34:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Like, you know, the NFL trance or the NBA trance. Defense.
00:34:43
Joe
can't believe he's actually I can't believe he's actually done the chance.
00:34:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Defense. That's a.
00:34:46
blessings
What's going on?
00:34:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
i and
00:34:50
Joe
tell me
00:34:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
sir Yeah, that's every time I see Minter.
00:34:52
blessings
We didn't know the chance, so he had to do it, Joey, brother.
00:34:54
Joe
yeah They have the same job for every team in every league in every sport in America.
00:34:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:34:59
Joe
It's the same thing.
00:34:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, and you guys couldn't join in on me, so you just left me, it's out to dry.
00:35:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
But yeah, brilliant. He's always there to help out Veltman, it's so good. Like he's class, and you talk about decision-making, he was the one that played it out to Veltman for the first goal. He's so, like, he attracted to, and then passed it, like, laid it back off to Veltman for the unbelievable cross.
00:35:22
Joe
And that's not cap, he's literally turned around and parked at five yards.
00:35:25
blessings
ah Yeah, that was about to say that.
00:35:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I know. ah He could have, he could have been stupid and run at them and then lost the ball. I mean, they didn't but But yeah, you are also right.
00:35:34
Joe
I guess it is all is also true, yeah, I suppose.
00:35:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
It was a three yard pass.
00:35:40
Joe
yeah It was also janear Jane Sanchez standing there.
00:35:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
I could have made that. But what an amazing right win.

Brighton's FA Cup Prospects

00:35:45
Joe
Jane Sanchez is literally fat, mate, so he's not getting out there, do you know what I mean?
00:35:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh.
00:35:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
is
00:35:52
Joe
Get it on where it's starting.
00:35:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
They're not that much. Yeah, what an amazing Brighton win. We could, I've said it but before, Liverpool are out now, Arsenal are out, Spurs are out, and someone else in missing are also out.
00:36:06
Joe
It's half-hearted.
00:36:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
so We could, we could go far in this competition. Let's bring home the FA Cup. Let's get that Europa League competition secured via the f FA Cup. That's my thinking. Let's do it up the Brighton and see you next time.
