2025 Review

Warwick Schiller is a renowned horsemanship trainer. He has a book titled "Principles of Training", a deep YouTube catalog and his own online training platform. In this episode I go over my biggest takeaways from him to include; you being the best person to train your horse, becoming part of the horses herd, when training it doesn't have to be an A, a B+ will do, first you go with them, then they go with you, then you go together and finally what makes Warwick different as a trainer.

Study of Warwick Schiller

The equestrian world is going through a shift. Social media can be a toxic place and the debates between equestrian training, husbandry and tack is at an all time high. Let's begin figuring out how we can use these modern times to discuss and create a larger, more effective and inclusive equine industry instead of tearing each other apart and deterring newcomers. In this episode I take lessons from the following books; Supercommunicators by: Charles Duhigg and How to Win Friends and Influence People by: Dale Carnegie. I cover how we can communicate properly, not offend the other party and gain respect and likeability.

How to handle discourse in the equestrian industry

Robert Dover is a 6 time Olympian and 4 time Olympic Bronze medalist. He has served as the Technical/ Coach Advisor for the Canadian National team and later as the Technical Advisor/ Chef D'equipe for the US Dressage Team. He is a founding member of the Equestrian Aids Foundation and is a great advocate for developing programs to train, mentor and fund youth interested in Dressage. For this episode I read his book "The Gates to Brilliance". We will look at his life and career that led him to where he is today and discuss the major themes of his book. These include surrounding yourself with good mentors and trainers, learning a riding system, and using visualization.

In this episode I cover Wim Hof's life and what drove him to discover the benefits of cold exposure, breathwork and meditation. I share a couple of his methods, the science behind cold exposure, recommended protocols and my own experience with cold plunging. The Wim Hof book I read for this episode is titled "The Wim Hof Method" by: Wim Hof. See links below to the science and resources I used in addition to the Wim Hof book.

We will learn about level 5 leadership, hiring the right people, confronting the brutal facts of our business, hedgehog concepts, and creating a culture of discipline. No matter if you are just starting a business or already have a good one, there will be lessons we can take and apply to our equestrian businesses.

Baucherism is a Dressage training method developed from Francois Baucher. Research for this episode came from the book "Racinet explains Baucher" by Jean-Claude Racinet. This episode covers who Baucher was, his training method and how it differs from the French and German classical training methods. Some further resources to dive deeper would be Mills Consilient Horsemanship, Patrick King and Manuel Jorge de Oliveira.
