I Think You Should ...See Some Recent Horror Films

In this very special episode, Trevor doesn't have Bea around as he is off in a fantastical foreign land known as Germany. There he sits down to talk to his dear friend, Marcel Buelles, also known as The Tolkienist, about their relationship going back to 2006 and how critical it is to make and maintain friendships over time. They also get deeply into their nerdy love of Tolkien and fantasy, and past shenanigans together all across Europe.

In this episode, Trevor and Bea get incensed over the things that get called adaptations when they very much are not. This was largely inspired by the release of the new Wuthering Heights film, which appears to have been made by someone who never bothered to read the book. This isn't an argument to not reinterpret art or use art as inspiration for something new ...but it is an argument for correctly labeling, marketing, and describing the nature of your work!

Today, Bea and Trevor go into the issues with fandom, specifically looking at Heated Rivalry and the explosion in attention for the actors themselves. Trevor tries to articulate a definition of justifiable fandom and attitudes towards art, while Bea digs deeper into how fans need to guard against para-social relationships with their beloved artists/creatives. It's kind of a deep conversation!
