Podcast Introduction

Speaker
Aren't you a little short? Aren't you a little short? Aren't you a little short for a stormtrooper?
00:00:17
Speaker
Welcome everybody to Short for a Stormtrooper, 15-minute Star Wars podcast. And let me tell you, this episode is going to be a little bit different than I had planned. So let me unpack that for you a little bit.

Andor Season 2 Trailer Analysis

00:00:31
Speaker
ah The original plan was that we were going to join Ben and Phil and talk about the last couple of episodes of Andor and wrap that up.
00:00:43
Speaker
However, this past week, one of the three of us wound up getting sick and was kind of down for the count the whole week. So we are behind a week.
00:00:54
Speaker
All right. Well, didn't want to skip a week of the podcast. And I had a plan. I had a backup plan. And I was all ready to record that this afternoon. but The Force took care of us. And this afternoon, the trailer for Season 2 of Andor dropped.
00:01:14
Speaker
And also we got more information about how Andor Season 2 is going to be released. So I am going to put my backup plan back up onto the backup shelf.
00:01:26
Speaker
And we are going to move forward and I'm going to share my thoughts about the Andor trailer and everything I'm looking forward to with season two. The other thing, because we're kind of last minuting this, I am not going to go through and do the level of editing that I typically do on my podcasts.
00:01:43
Speaker
So any ums and ahs and vocal stutters and things like that that I typically will edit out so that you think that I'm just this nice, crystal clear, clean reader, you're going to hear all the blemishes today. But hopefully you're okay with that.
00:01:58
Speaker
All right. First off, Before we get any deeper into this, if you haven't yet seen the trailer for Andor Season 2 and you don't want to be spoiled by anything in this podcast, you know it's so funny that we are now in a world where it's spoilers about the trailers.
00:02:21
Speaker
Right? It's kind of funny, but it's part of the whole experience. We also are in a world where you get trailers about the trailers, right? You get the trailer of like, here's a little mini snippet and then full trailer dropping tomorrow.
00:02:34
Speaker
didn't seem to be the case here unless I missed something yesterday. But it is kind of a funny world where the trailer is part of the entire experience of watching it. So if you don't want to be spoiled and you want to watch it first, I'm going to give you a second to hit pause and go out to YouTube. Just search Andor Season 2 trailer and you will be able to find it.
00:02:55
Speaker
All right, so go ahead and hit pause now and then come back when you're ready.

Themes of Revolution and Rebellion

00:02:59
Speaker
Okay, from now on, I am going to assume everybody listened to this either You've watched the trailer or you don't care and you're fine listening to me and you're just going to watch it later.
00:03:10
Speaker
Okay, no problem. Let's jump in. The first thing about this trailer is, for me, it was the most striking thing. It was the music.
00:03:21
Speaker
So Star Wars over the last year or so has been playing with, you know, different styles of music. Aside from the typical John Williams kind of bombastic orchestral score, we got Ludwig's very different sounding score for the Mandalorian.
00:03:39
Speaker
And then in the advertising for a bunch of the projects, especially Skeleton Crew, right? We heard kind of Star Wars versions of some classic rock songs. There's probably other examples that I'm just forgetting about. Feel free too to comment on those.
00:03:54
Speaker
But... With this one, we were getting a song that I wasn't familiar with, so I had to Shazam it. And it turns out that the song is called The Revolution Starts Now, which shouldn't be too shocking based on the lyrics. It's pretty clear that that's what the song is called. And it's by Steve Earle, who I don't know very well.
00:04:14
Speaker
But I tell you what, I liked the song. I think it worked in the context here. And the lyrics are definitely in line with what we expect to have happen in this season of Andor. It is the revolution. It is starting.
00:04:28
Speaker
And there's no hemming and hawing about it anymore. We are definitely into the rebellion. Okay, at the beginning of the trailer, at the beginning of what we saw, a lot of people walking, i think a lot of Cassian walking, and a lot of his back.
00:04:44
Speaker
So i I just noticed that probably the second or third time that i watched that I watched it. It was a lot of Cassian's back at the very beginning of this, which was fine. It was setting a mood.
00:04:54
Speaker
But then he comes in with the classic line, the now classic line for me, which is, do you want to fight or do you want to win? And i just thought that was a very telling line of where this is going to head, right? It is not about just fighting.
00:05:16
Speaker
It is about accomplishing something. It is about winning. And if you happen to be one of the... overlap audience between this podcast and our Learning Geeks podcast.
00:05:28
Speaker
You know i have been on the kick lately that training is not just about well, corporate training is not just about putting on programs, putting on schools for people to attend.
00:05:40
Speaker
It's about actually realizing business results. I think Cassian is basically saying the same thing. Do you want to fight or do you want to win? Do you want to just go through the motions or do you want to accomplish something? I love that. I thought that was cool.
00:05:54
Speaker
We saw some great footage too. We saw Cassian in the cockpit of what I think was a tie interceptor.

Character Highlights

00:06:02
Speaker
I was basing that on he was clearly in a TIE fighter cockpit, and it clearly had the angled pointy wings that a TIE interceptor does. But I'm going to come back to that in just a second because I'm not sure it was a TIE interceptor. I think it might have been something a little bit different.
00:06:18
Speaker
Okay, there is the classic, you know, you see it in every Michael Bay movie. It's it's kind of a cliche, but it worked here. I thought it was fun. Cassian walking away. I think he was with Bix. It was hard for me to tell.
00:06:31
Speaker
Let me know what you think. I think it was with Bix. But walking away from the building and then pressing the button and the explosion goes off and they don't even turn to look at the explosion. It just goes off and they walk away. So that was great.
00:06:44
Speaker
we saw some things that I was very excited to see. We saw Brasso. I think that it was Brasso. Again, you know I probably should go out to um to Star Wars Explained or one of those guys and see their or screen crush, see one of their breakdowns because they analyze every frame. And so I might be wrong with some of this, but in the viewings I saw, it looked like it was Brasso, Cassian's friend from the version one being arrested by some people on the planet that I'm going to call the Illinois planet betraying my roots. it looked like a lot of farm, a lot of wheat.
00:07:19
Speaker
And that was where we actually saw Cassian flying the TIE Interceptor over. So we saw Brasso. We saw Krennic, expecting to see him. We saw the Death Star, which was great.
00:07:31
Speaker
There is a scene where I think it was Clea. who is Luthan's assistant, brandishing a gun and and making things happen. So if that was Clea, she is definitely dropping her role and showing herself to be the rebellion agent that she actually is. I loved that.
00:07:53
Speaker
We saw Melshi. So we talked about Melshi before. He was in Cassian. He was in Cassian. He was in Andor season one. helped Cassian and escaped with Cassian from Narkeena 5.
00:08:06
Speaker
And then we know that he goes on to be in Rogue One as well. So great seeing Melshi. Really great seeing Edie Karn again. So Cyril's mother. So much fun.
00:08:17
Speaker
We saw K2SO just for a second, but we saw K. We saw... More Saw Gerrera. And at the very end, we heard more Saw Gerrera, which is great. You know, I think Forrest Whitaker, amazing in this role. It's so exciting to see that he's going to be back with this.

Exploring Darker Themes

00:08:36
Speaker
You know who we didn't see in this, though? We did not see Kino Loy. So we talked about that last time too. There's rumors that Andy Serkis' character, Kino Loy, again from Narkina 5, would be back for the season.
00:08:52
Speaker
Didn't see him in the trailer. Doesn't mean that he's not going to be there. That might be a cool reveal for down the line, but we didn't see Kino, so that's okay. All right, so that's kind of my rundown of the characters that I saw that I was really excited about.
00:09:08
Speaker
There were a few scenes in the trailer that I thought were super interesting. One, about, I don't know, 30 seconds, a minute into the trailer or so, there was a really chilling shot of a body lying in a hangar.
00:09:24
Speaker
Seems to be a dead body. And through the hangar door, you see two X-wings and a shuttlecraft take off. Now, my first reaction when I saw this was I thought it was Yavin.
00:09:35
Speaker
I thought it was the the rebel base on Yavin where this was happening. But now I'm not so sure. So interested in your opinions of this. Was it was it Yavin? Was it someplace else? Either way, it was chilling because it seemed like a hit.
00:09:50
Speaker
And it seemed like a hit that the rebels were engaged in. One of the themes of Andor that I just think is is fascinating is how dark do you go for the greater good?
00:10:07
Speaker
That really is the whole point of Luthien and the whole point of his big speech that he gave towards the end of season one. He has gone dark. He realizes that he has kind of sold his soul for the ultimate success of freedom in the galaxy.
00:10:23
Speaker
And it seems like he's not the only one. So I thought that was chilling. There were a couple of scenes that seemed to be at a big celebration, a big dance party. i am speculating here, but I am guessing that that might be the wedding celebration for Mon Mothma's daughter and now son-in-law. If that is, that would be interesting, but it seemed like that's how things were headed in season one. So that'll be fun to see if that happens.
00:10:50
Speaker
Also, let's let's get back to that tie interceptor because There was a scene earlier on in the trailer where you saw what looked like a TIE interceptor in a hangar. So it was kind of flying. the The shot was from down low and you were seeing some stormtroopers looking up at it.
00:11:08
Speaker
But this TIE Interceptor wasn't really a TIE Interceptor. It had a slightly different body and it had slightly different wings as well. So if that's the case, it's a different TIE than we've seen before.
00:11:23
Speaker
It is interesting because Rogue One did introduce, I think, one or two different varieties of TIE Fighters. than what we saw in Episode 4, which of course came out in 1977. There was two types of TIE fighters there. I almost said one, but there's two.
00:11:39
Speaker
There was a standard TIE fighter and then there was the TIE advance, the Darth Vader flu, of course. So it's interesting that they're they're bringing some of these new vehicles into it. I thought that that was pretty

Anticipation for New Season

00:11:49
Speaker
cool.
00:11:50
Speaker
So all in all, I loved the trailer. I was super psyched. That last shot of Cassian kind of in spy mode, I'm guessing, with that knowing, telling look.
00:12:04
Speaker
Perfect. It's going to be great. All right. The last thing i want to talk about, though, is the release schedule. This is big news, folks, in case you missed this, is on April 22nd, the day that it premieres, we are actually getting three episodes, one, two and three.
00:12:21
Speaker
And we saw similar to this with the Acolyte, I believe. I know we saw similar to that with Skeleton Crew. We got the first two episodes in one day. But here's the big news is they will be releasing three episodes a week for the next three weeks and then we're done.
00:12:38
Speaker
So April 29th will be episodes four, five and six. May 6th will be seven, eight nine. And May 13th will be 10, 11 and 12. And then April
00:12:52
Speaker
Andor will be done on May 13th. Will be done. On May 20th, we're going to go back and watch Rogue One and then have it go right into Episode 4 and get the whole picture. ah So it it's interesting. I am not sure how I feel about this.
00:13:07
Speaker
On one hand, i kind of love it because I love the idea of... getting more content faster. ah We've been talking in our whole look back on Andor season one, how it has seemed like each arc has kind of been its own movie.
00:13:23
Speaker
And so I think that's the way they're setting this up. I know that each arc of Andor represents another year heading up towards Rogue One.
00:13:34
Speaker
So it might be that first night is the year after season one. 29th is year two and then year three and then year four. Although I've also heard that it doesn't quite fall out that cleanly. I don't know. We'll have to see. Either way, we're getting three episodes a week.
00:13:51
Speaker
And so while I'm excited that we'll be getting more at once, I also kind of like stretching it out. I remember the first time seeing Return of the Jedi and being halfway through and turning to my girlfriend Kara and saying, oh, no, it's half over. I want it just to keep going on. Yeah, that's how I was.
00:14:08
Speaker
So I think on the whole, I'm excited about this, but I'm interested what you think. So, all right. That is my rundown of the Andor Season 2 trailer.
