Introduction to Season 4: New Horizons
00:00:06
Speaker
Yo, this is Bare Knuckles and Brass Tacks, the technology podcast that tackles the human side of the industry. I'm George K. And I'm George a And this is season four, y'all.
Why Expand Beyond Cyber Topics?
00:00:19
Speaker
And if you noticed, we're changing things a little bit. We're opening the doors a little wider than cyber. George and I have been going back and forth for a bit. It's easy to get stuck in this echo chamber of the industry and forget that the things that we are originally talking about is what affects people.
00:00:39
Speaker
And we feel hemmed in if we just stay in cyber. Data privacy affects us all. AI is going to affect us all. going affect our children. And so for season four, we're opening the

Speaker
doors a little wider. You're going to start to hear interviews with people on different sides of the technological spectrum.
00:01:00
Speaker
And we're also going to get into some topics that aren't just pure security, but they still touch on the human side. And as ever, our promise is that we will keep it real. We will keep it raw as always.
Revitalizing the Podcast Format
00:01:14
Speaker
George, what do you want to say about this pivot? Yeah, I mean, like it was coming for a while. um you know, it's funny running a show where you're not sitting in the same room every week, but, you know, you're conversing online over text and, you know, do a recording.
00:01:29
Speaker
But what I felt like is that the vibe felt the same for both of us. And that was that we were getting to a place where we were going through the motions. Like it was its to the point that it's not like we weren't doing guest research, but it was like there was no effort in scripting. We just knew what the format was, how to do it. We knew to produce a good episode.
00:01:47
Speaker
And I think it just mutually became a bit uninteresting for us. And we realized one day, you know, because thankfully we're friends we're like, hey, so like,
00:01:58
Speaker
you Do you want to make this cool or is it like, because, you know, when you get to the point where you dread actually recording.
Retaining Core Values: Thought-Provoking Content
00:02:04
Speaker
You don't want to dial it in. Yeah. It's not fun for anyone. And that's that's me being real about to to our listeners. You know, like we go through these gut checks as well. And we're very introspective with each other and like, hey, do you feel that was okay? You know, like, and.
00:02:17
Speaker
those conversations kind of produce the idea that, hey, we can we can expand our breadth because there are a lot of great podcasts in the security podcast space, right? You know, like CISO series, like everyone talks about them. Great show. David Sparks, cool guy. see him everywhere. um There are a bunch of other great shows. People have been on. Will has a great show.
00:02:38
Speaker
A lot of folks are doing good things. And I think Our message is not really going to change, but the bandwidth for it and the fact that George and I as people, and you know, it's like we're not talking about what side of the aisle we're on or anything. There's no job titles anymore. just us as people.
Exploring New Themes: AI, Privacy, Society
00:02:55
Speaker
You know, we're into different things. i Like we like art, like sports. We like lifestyle, like culture. Right. We're well read. Right. ah you You don't see it. And we're going to, you know, probably go to platforms with video soon. So I think a YouTube channel is coming.
00:03:10
Speaker
ah But behind George is just a shelf full of books. On the other side of my screen is a shelf full of books. And we want to pursue these passions and we want to relate them.
00:03:21
Speaker
to what's happening in technology today and the people who are having to take a lot of traditional lifestyles and now adapt them to new technological waves and and what that means to the culture, what that means to the conversation and you know, just finding people with interesting stories. Because one of George and I's original tenets was always we do cool shit with cool people.
00:03:44
Speaker
And that is still one of the foundations of this show. So we're not trying to get away from security altogether, but there's a whole world out there. And ah George and I are bored and nerdy enough to go take it on.
AI's Impact on Human Relationships and More
00:03:59
Speaker
Yeah, well said. And a lot of the things, if you've been paying attention to the show, We've been asking about how do you organize teams around AI tooling.
00:04:10
Speaker
That is not just for security. We've been asking about data privacy. We've been asking about how do you upscale yourself for an economy that's changing underneath your feet. That's not just security, right?
00:04:21
Speaker
That is where technology touches society and we're going to bigger. And I hope you stay on the journey with us and tell your friends ah some things we're going to address. Sex robots, AI companions.
00:04:35
Speaker
um How does human intimacy change when the productization of AI is trying to come for human relationships? How is art being created? What are the intellectual property debates around that?
00:04:47
Speaker
How are musicians using ai um How does the average person think about security when their data is probably in a breach every other week?
00:04:58
Speaker
Right. So the show is getting a little bigger.
Invitation to Explore New Territories
00:05:01
Speaker
We're still going to tackle it with that bare knuckles energy. um So if you are here for the conversations about human capacity for change, technology as an economic and a political and a cultural force, you're We're here for that journey with you and we hope you stick with us.
00:05:20
Speaker
Yeah. You know, George really nails it on the head here. It's we're going on a little adventure and we, we invite you all to come with us because we want to take on all the things and we want to put them into the context and the lens of, of folks like you, you know, we work the same types of jobs as you. We live very similar lives, you know, and surely When we have like the perspective of of so many different people and we could try to cross over worlds and we can try to shine some light on some things that, you know, maybe folks are curious about, but they just haven't really had a chance to interact with.
00:05:57
Speaker
That's kind of the whole point of this show. And then we're going to take the BKBT idea. We're going to expand upon it. We're have some fun. There's a whole bunch of new content coming up in the future, too. We really want to do some books.
00:06:10
Speaker
We really want to put on some really different types of events and not just, you know, the the pitch battles are great. But you have to understand that George and I are really committed to just representing a cool line of thinking and just being able to enjoy being a human being in a very dehumanizing world.
00:06:30
Speaker
So we invite you to stay on this journey with us. It's going to be fun. we can't wait to hear from you. We want you to interact with us. Join the community because we listen to you and your ideas.
00:06:40
Speaker
They become our ideas, too. And we bring you one. and We bring you together. So we invite you all stay with us and let's have a great season four. That's right.
00:06:51
Speaker
