Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome to the Daily Liverpool Podcast brought to you by the Global Sports Podcast Network. It's the Friday forecast show and we are looking ahead to Saturday's game against Brentford. So in part one of today's podcast, we'll look at the form guide for both teams coming into this game, what kind of threat Liverpool can expect to face against Brentford. And in part two, we'll do some predicted lineups.
00:00:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
and a score prediction in the company of Das Ramchand today. How's it going, Adash?
00:00:40
Adarsh
Yeah, no going good. Saw the football last night, obviously Arsenal winning, closing the gap, but I'm sure we'll bounce back on the weekend.
00:00:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, well, Liverpool are the visitors in Saturday's three o'clock kickoff UK time. That's 10am Eastern Standard Time.

Liverpool's Title Race Position

00:00:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
The Reds, you know, we're still top of the league after that thrilling 1-1 draw away at Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.
00:01:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Arsenal cut that lead or that seven point deficit to just four points after Wednesday night's 2-1 win against Spurs in the North London and Derby. We've still got a game in hand on Arsenal. Adarsh, how do you assess this title race now? Arsenal, you know, they get a vital or three points against Spurs. The lead is cut to four points. Are we still sitting comfortably? Any calls for concern?

Liverpool's Performance and Style

00:01:34
Adarsh
I actually think we are still quite comfortable purely because with that game in hand, I think we forget that game in hand is is quite big and I think with four points it looks like it's tiny but the game in hand if we win that I think it hinges on that and then once we don't have that game in hand we probably look at our lead at the top in a slightly different perspective I think we're not playing badly. I just think we're making silly mistakes and teams are punishing us rather than us purely playing bad. I think probably the United game is probably the only exception without having that sort of run that we've had. But if anything, we're having sort of a sticky patch right now. umm right I'd rather us have this patch now than come April and May when that's when we really need to hit form. so And saying that, we haven't lost. We haven't, apart from obviously in the Carabar Cup, but we haven't lost in the league.
00:02:21
Adarsh
yeah haven't dropped massive amount of points. And I think it's ah if anything, it's a good reflection and reminder for the team to really step it up in the next few weeks.
00:02:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I've said now for a few weeks that you know the bad run that many commentators are expecting Liverpool to have, I think we're smack in the middle of it. I think that we're you know we're we're drawing games, we're conceding more regularly now. That wasn't the case in the first half of the season when yeah we were really watertight at the back.
00:02:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think we're tending to start maybe a bit slower now, a little tentative, you know, which maybe, I don't know if it's a sign of of a drop in confidence. But you know, the flip side is, is that we're not losing games, we're still picking up points. so Surely that's got to be a positive Adash.
00:03:09
Adarsh
Yeah, I know 100%. I think the mentality of the team to come back from behind as well. I know something that's been frustrating me is that we keep but getting into that bad habit that we had last season of falling behind early in games and I'd like that to stop. But another good habit that we did have last season and we seem to be having it this season is that we're coming back. managed to not We're coming away with at least a point minimum. I think as well, just focusing on the Nottingham Forest game, I think that is a game, if you look at the two games that we played since the Well, if you want to call it the second half of the season, we played United at home and forest away. They're arguably two of the tougher tougher games that we've already got out of the way. don't have to worry about going to forest later

Forest vs. Liverpool Analysis

00:03:47
Adarsh
in season. So I think that's some of the the benefits I'm taking away from from the last sort of sticky patch that we've had. So I think we can definitely get back to form. And I think, yeah, you're right, Jesse, we are in that middle of that bad runner form. But if this is our bad runner form, then that shows the standards that we're setting in the Premier League this season.
00:04:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it's it's really weird. I mean, you can look at it in so many... You look you can look at the same thing in a different light. I remember the first half of the season, everyone was raving on about this kind of different style that Liverpool have got now. You know, this a bit more of a measured approach. It's not so gung-ho all the time. You know, we're we're kind of focusing on controlling the game. And I think the flip side of that is what we saw against, sometimes against United, definitely in the first half against Forrest, where sometimes Van Dyke would have the ball and he's literally walking. He's literally walking. that there's He's at walking pace because he's not being pressed. Forrest is saying, look, you can have the ball.
00:04:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
And we're not zipping the ball around to try and get that movement to try and get that space created. And I'm just wondering whether what was our strength in the first half of the season, and you know, could potentially be a weakness in the second half of the season, but I suppose, you know, you've got a trust slot and you've got to trust the players that they know when to kind of change the tempo of the game, which they did against Forrest on Tuesday night. And really, I guess we should have won that game. The chances that we had on another day, I think, you know, we we probably come away with the three points. But as you said, I mean, Forrest, Forrest are up there now on merit.
00:05:41
Adarsh
pun
00:05:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
don't think I don't think we can say that you know they're not in it. you They are in it. As far as I'm concerned, they're in the title race because of where they are.
00:05:50
Adarsh
Yeah, no, 100%. I was going to say just on the point you made around like us playing at that sort of slower temple compared tempo, comparing it to Nottingham Forest, there was that period in the second half where they were playing 1-2 touch.
00:06:02
Adarsh
I don't know if you remember that. And I was like, wow, why aren't we doing that?
00:06:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:06:05
Adarsh
They play with such speed.

Brentford's Challenge to Liverpool

00:06:08
Adarsh
Yes, they might not have the ball as much as other teams, and that's how they're set up. But at least when they have the ball, they are proactive. They're zipping it about. And I think that's probably where the frustration lies for some Liverpool fans, where kind of taking the one too many touches we're not zipping it with with enough pace we did that in the second half of course but you could argue because we're one nil down we've got no choice i'd rather us sort of start games like that and i think that's something that i'd like to see just on night in the forest and obviously they gave they did give us sort of a good game i know they didn't really set up to create many chances that sort of their game plan but i think it's more because of because of Liverpool i think if it was another team they probably would have attacked a lot more
00:06:46
Adarsh
but they're definitely up there with on merit. They've got, I was, I was reading, I think a tweet or some posts, but they've just ah an old fashioned team. They've got two really solid center backs, two speedy wingers, an old fashioned striker, creative, a creative number 10 and a really solid goalkeeper.
00:06:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's an afford, yeah.
00:07:03
Adarsh
And that's, I feel like a lot of teams are kind of overthinking how to set up a football team. But one of the beauties of forest is that they're just, they're just very simple and everything that they they do. And it's just so effective.
00:07:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. And I think, I think Brian k Clough would have been, uh, you know, uh, quite happy to see the forest team how it is now, because as you said, it's a bit of a throwback, uh, kind of team, you know, very solid, quick on the counter attack. And they do the simple things really well. And in that game, you know, the first, what was it? The first five or six minutes we're we're just dominating possession. They just have one sniff of the ball three passes later.
00:07:40
Adarsh
Hmm.
00:07:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
the ball is in the back of the net with a really nice first time finish. And I hate to say it. And I just I was thinking, God, Darwin, are you watching? Just just looking at that. But so anyway, let's let's talk Brentford.
00:07:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
they're in 10th place so you know peak mid-table team a look at their form guide in the last six games doesn't look great for them they've lost three drawn two and won one and that win was a 5-0 win against Southampton which I mean, to be fair, I think the Daily Liverpool five-a-side team, I think would have a shout at beating them.
00:08:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think Karl Kopak might replicate his hat trick that he's been hanging on about um for the last few weeks, although there is no video evidence substantially, he his claims.
00:08:28
Adarsh
we are Yeah, I CD evidence, Cole.
00:08:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
So there is that. They've scored nine goals. They've conceded nine as well. So they really are just mid in every sense of the word. But here's the caveat, they do tend to be a difficult game for the big teams at home. You know, they're coming off that midweek 2-2 draw against City, they were 2-0 down, 12 minutes to go and they fought back to get a point which I think probably says as much about City than it does about Brentford.
00:09:07
Adarsh
Yeah, and that is true. But I do think one of the the characteristics of Brentford ever since they've been in the Premier League is they've got that sort of never-say-die attitude. They do something in a game which kind of takes you by surprise as well. They've got that kind of X factor about them, especially with Embuero and Whistle, who are definitely going to be the main threats.
00:09:24
Adarsh
on the weekends. just love watching them play as well in terms of they are just a different team. We see lots of similar styles in the Premier League, but they can mix it up. They can play counter-attack. They can play a bit of long ball sometimes, but they're also good in possession. So they'll definitely be a threat for Liverpool on Saturday. And yeah, you're right. They do pose a big threat to the big teams. And obviously I watched the highlights of the City game and yes, City made mistakes and pretty much bottled the 2-0 lead. But I think that is a testament to Brentford.

Liverpool's Strategy Against Brentford

00:09:55
Adarsh
Even if we're 1-0, 2-0 up, we can't sort of let our foot off the gas. And I think this is a good game in terms of Liverpool bouncing back, because it is on paper, it looks like a winnable game. But we all know Brentford away is a tough game. So I think if Liverpool can come away with three points, it' it sends a message that you know but we're kind of back on track, I think.
00:10:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Is this now a must win game? I mean, at the start of the week, you know, you say these two tougher way fixtures, Forrest then Brentford, and you think, of course, you know, you want to get six points, but four points would be a good return. So.
00:10:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
We've got to win this now just again to reinforce that pressure on Arsenal and to really remind them that it's not four points, it's seven points. Ours is a three o'clock kickoff, theirs is at 5.30. I know it's just a couple of hours, but what when when they step onto that pitch at 5.30, if we win our game, then the gap is seven points. We really need to win this game.
00:10:55
Adarsh
Yeah, no, it's a must win. I think every game is a must win, but in particular the context of this week and the season, I think they'll probably got to capitalize. would have been happy. I think obviously wanted to win the forest game, but given the context of the game and how many chances we did kind of miss in the game, I think.
00:11:13
Adarsh
On another day, you're right, we would have we could have won that. So this is a must win. I think there's no excuses. We've got a fully fit team pretty much. Nunez is coming back into the squad as well from his suspension. The only absentee is Gomez. So I don't see, from a player point of view, and there being any excuses, we've had enough rest from Tuesday to Saturday. So I'm looking at, I don't see any reason why we don't win this game. And I don't see any excuses after the game, like the referees or anything. We've got to sort of take accountability and really get the season back on track, I'd say.
00:11:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
And it's I think you make a really good point in terms of the health of the squad. And I think this is and it's not a slight on clock. It's just, I do think that this is probably one of the benefits of having Arnie slot and his style of football, where we are still intense. I mean, sometimes, you know, the the way that we break, it was still I think the best counter attack inside.
00:12:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
in Europe in terms of when we're defending our own our own corner or our own set piece and then we we break. It's just lightning quick, but I think it's just, you know, we we we pick and choose the moments when we do that.

Liverpool's Squad Health and Lineup Decisions

00:12:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I think you're probably now seeing the benefits in terms of less injuries, less long-term injuries. And so, you know, we've just got more players now to pick from. And as you mentioned, it was only Joe Gomez. And I think it's interesting that Gomez picked up his injury when he was playing literally every three days because Connor Bradley was out, Trent was out, know, think Costas or I think Robertson was out.
00:12:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. So, you know, there are a lot of injuries that were piling up and he was just playing game after game after game. So I think yeah it's a really good point that you make that the health of the squad is really there. yeah, I think we're both agreed. We definitely need three points now just to kind of reinforce that top spot. We're going to go for a quick break. And when we come back, we'll go through some predicted lineups and a score prediction.
00:13:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, let's get into the predicted lineup. You know what? I've i've seen quite a few articles, kind of YouTube videos of people saying, has Alison's level dropped? I don't see where where that has come from. I know that he made there was a couple of instances against Spurs where he kind of, he put the team under a bit of pressure with one of his clearances. But ah do do you see anything in that?
00:14:17
Adarsh
This might be a bit controversial. i i Me and my brother were having a discussion about this actually during the forest game.
00:14:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, it's going to be very controversial. I can see. I can tell.
00:14:25
Adarsh
I think he's a victim of his own high standards. I think we were discussing, should he have saved the Chris Wood shot? And I think, yeah, I think if it feels Alison of a few seasons ago, he might pull off a Worldie, but that I don't think he's, but that's not me saying he's dropped off, but I just think because his standards are so high, he's obviously had an injury as well.
00:14:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, really?
00:14:46
Adarsh
I just think it's ah ah it's a little decline. I don't think it's a massive drop off. I think people going a bit crazy but i do so i do I do see the point I do think there is maybe it's just as well he is coming back from injury he's still getting used to slots football I don't really know but I think the biggest thing for me is a victim of his own success he's the best goalkeeper on his day he's the best goalkeeper in the world and I think maybe like his high standards we're like oh he he would usually pull off a worldly save and we're so used to seeing that and probably just because we haven't seen him pull off a worldly save in ages maybe we're we're thinking that but i think also that's down to the style of play like we're not as under clop alison would have to make a massive save every every game at least in each half whilst under slot is probably less less than that so that's maybe another reason as well but i wouldn't say his levels dropped off completely but i can see a little a little drop yeah i know i know you wouldn't be happy with that but
00:15:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
That is borderline blasphemy. i'm I'm almost thinking I might have to edit this this part out of it. And when we do the predicted lineup, we we just mysteriously skip the goalkeeper part and go straight into the back four. But so it's an interesting one. It's an interesting perspective because I just couldn't see it. I was thinking, what you know what are they talking about? But so you know maybe maybe there is something there. But you know no doubt that Alison starts. What about the back four then? because We've got a Champions League game coming up on Tuesday night, not Wednesday. So you know the likes of Trent, he going to get rotated for Conor Bradley or does Conor Bradley play in the Champions League? Because I do think it's important
00:16:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
slot gives Slot gives time to his defenders, to Brandy, that he's not sitting on the bench too long. So how do you see the the back four shaping up for this game?
00:16:38
Adarsh
Yeah, I've gone for Trent as right back for the Premier League game against Brentford, and then I would probably start Bradley in the Champions League game. So I've gone for Trent, Canate, Van Dijk and Simicas as my back four.
00:16:51
Adarsh
I think Robertson was just not at the level one against Forrest. I don't know, it's really bad to say, but I don't know, but it's just how can...
00:16:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
More blasphemy coming.
00:17:01
Adarsh
It's not just that his defensive, it is all-round game as well, his crossing, distribution, some of the passes and just being out of position. I think, I think like we have been critical of Simicast on this podcast a lot of times, but I think we have to give him credit for his cameo against Forrest.
00:17:17
Adarsh
I thought he was outstanding when he came on.
00:17:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:17:18
Adarsh
So I think I would reward reward him at the start because of that.
00:17:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:17:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'd go for Simicast as well, but I i would go for Connor Bradley to start this game.
00:17:26
Adarsh
Okay.
00:17:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
The reason being is that I think Brentford are going to be quite physical and they're going to be quite theyre gonna be trying to get a lot of crosses in to put that back four under pressure.
00:17:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
And so I think those wide areas are going to be under a lot of pressure. And I just think that recently, you know, Trent has, you know, they've doubled up on him and, you know, really put him under a lot of pressure. So I'm thinking that maybe it might be better to play Conor Bradley in this game and leave Trent for the Champions League game home against Leal. But I agree that Simicas starts and then obviously you've got Conate and Van Dyck.
00:18:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
What about the midfield three then?
00:18:16
Adarsh
I'll go with the same midfield that started against Forrest.
00:18:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
and
00:18:19
Adarsh
I think that's our strongest midfield, Gravenberg. Michaela Stearns was like just a word on Gravenberg. When he goes into that centre-back position, he is unbelievable, by the way. irefore He's done that twice this season, and I'm blown away.
00:18:32
Adarsh
like that isnt he's He wasn't even a defensive midfielder before this season, and to be asked to drop into the centre-back position, and he was outstanding against Forrest in that second half, but I just wanted to mention that.
00:18:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
I didn't like it. Should I tell you why I didn't like it?
00:18:47
Adarsh
Why?
00:18:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because i think john I think John Henry is looking at Gravenberg thinking that he wants to adopt him because he's he's gonna he's already saved him 50 to 60 million pounds for a defensive midfielder because Gravenberg was like a central attacking midfielder.
00:18:49
Adarsh
I know.
00:18:52
Adarsh
I know, yeah.
00:19:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's already saved him upwards of 60, 70 million pounds for a defensive midfielder. And now he's probably thinking, oh, actually, you know what? We don't need to spend 50, 60 million pounds for a centre back.
00:19:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Leave it another 10 years because Gravenberg just, ah you know, he could just fit in there as well.
00:19:20
Adarsh
Yeah.
00:19:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
So it's, you know, you're right.
00:19:22
Adarsh
That and then, and then, and then, and then Joe as well end up being brilliant.
00:19:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
He was brilliant. Yeah, Endo, you know, he's a really, that guy, you know, he's he's an intelligent player and I think, you know, any squad that's going to be successful, you need players like that in your squad who are going to come in and whether they're playing against Real Madrid or a league two team, you know, they' they're just going to give it 110%, you know, put on that gum shield and just, you know, give it 110%.
00:19:26
Adarsh
and but
00:19:32
Adarsh
Hmm.
00:19:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, yeah, I agree. And I agree that that midfield of Gravenberg, McAllister, Sir Bosley, I think has to start. I want your opinion on Curtis Jones, because Curtis Jones has, you know, he's had something of a resurgence this season and, you know, you know, his comment went viral about this style of play under slot, suiting him more than the Jurgen Klopp style.
00:20:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
But it's really frustrating sometimes to see how long he holds on to that ball.
00:20:27
Adarsh
Yeah.
00:20:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
he did it a few times against Forrest where it's one all, we've got that momentum, we're going for that second goal, going for that winner. And there were too many times where he got the ball in an advanced position and he just stood over the ball and then played it back or sideways.
00:20:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm just thinking that's just the one area for me that's a real frustration with Curtis Jones.
00:20:53
Adarsh
Yeah, no, it's frustration for a lot of local fans, I would say. I think it's more the positioning of Jones that I think is the question as well, because I think when he played, I remember that game against Chelsea, him and Gravenberg in the sort of deep lying number six positions was so effective. And I think that's his position now.
00:21:10
Adarsh
if to FSG even more money. If Grabenburg gets injured, I think Jones goes into CDM because I think he is he's good at receiving the ball off the centre-back. That's where I don't mind him taking as many touches.
00:21:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
and Yeah.
00:21:22
Adarsh
And if anything, when someone comes to press him, he can wiggle his way out of the press and sort of run ah run with the ball. I think that's where he's effective.
00:21:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:21:30
Adarsh
But then in the final third, you need pace, you need efficiency. And I think that's what he doesn't that's why he lacks. particularly from an attacking point of view. So I think it's more the positioning. If he plays in that deeper position, I've got no problem, but I agree when he's in those attacking positions, he, he just wanted to release the ball when he's just taken an extra touch.
00:21:48
Adarsh
And yeah, it's frustrating.

Midfield Dynamics and Player Roles

00:21:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. And a hundred percent, I agree with you. I think that, think he should be rotated with Gravenberg and McAllister kind of double pivot row role, which would then free up an opportunity that when Sir Boslai is rested, that you give that opportunity to Harvey Elliott.
00:21:55
Adarsh
Yeah.
00:22:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
I really feel that he's been underutilized since he's come back from injury.
00:22:04
Adarsh
Hmm.
00:22:05
Adarsh
Yeah.
00:22:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
And, you know, he's someone that is a difference maker whenever he came off the bench last season, or even when he started. You know, he was a real difference maker. I'm just hoping that this second half of the season that he gets more of a run out.
00:22:24
Adarsh
I would have brought him on instead of Jones, the end forest, because I think that's what you need.
00:22:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, 100%.
00:22:28
Adarsh
Like even the game last season, Michaelis are playing a little dinked ball into the box. Harvey Elliott is someone with that quality. who can I think his crossing and his distribution is one of his most underrated aspects of his game.
00:22:40
Adarsh
And I think, yeah, I would like to see more of Harvey Elliott as well.
00:22:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, and then the front three. I mean, Mo was quite, you know, he was off it on Tuesday, it wasn't really involved much that game. And, you know, he was, he was double tripled on sometimes by forest.
00:23:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
then when he did get his chances, you know, he was a bit wayward with some of his finishing. There was one that Subaslai set him up with, where he opens up his body and you think that's going into the top corner and he disguise it. And then the other one, he's yeah I think he's quite unlucky with where the defender clears off the line really well. But you don't see him not starting.
00:23:24
Adarsh
Yeah, I know he's got to start. if If anything, he's the one player on the team that's allowed on off day.
00:23:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:23:29
Adarsh
So yeah, I wouldn't be too critical and I'm sure he'll be looking to get back in the goals on and Saturday.
00:23:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
What about the other two places then? Because you've got Gatpo, Diaz, yeah Nunez is back after suspension, Kieza got an important run out in the FA Cup, you know scored a goal as well, that which is really, really good to see. Gatpo and Diaz and Salah have been the kind of preferred front three. Do you see any change in that? Because I'm thinking that Nunez could be a good option for this game, Salah, Nunes and Gackpo, because just that kind of physical presence away from home, know, Brentford do like to mix it up. And

Attacking Lineup and Fixture Challenges

00:24:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm just thinking maybe Nunes might be a good, good pick for this game.
00:24:13
Adarsh
Yeah, no, I was thinking that as well. I actually did go for Jota, but I do think I do see the Nuna shout purely because also last season he had a good game against them. I think you're right. The physical nature, not just from a attacking point of view, from a defensive point of view, I think.
00:24:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
How can you leave out a jotter?
00:24:28
Adarsh
But yeah, that's that's that's my point. I think this is the time. You can see he's back to fitness. You can see he's sharp. Like even take away the goal, his all-round play when he came on was brilliant. Like holding off defenders. It's incredible. Like he's just one of the smallest players on the pitch, but he's strong, physical, can take on players.
00:24:47
Adarsh
He's outstanding. So I would love to see, I think I'd just love to see Jota start purely because I've missed him starting games a little, so that's probably why I went for Jota and Gagpo. And I think if Gagpo can get those crosses in to Jota and Jota's movement, I think that could be where we could win the game.
00:25:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Give us a score prediction then. ah ah dash Yeah.
00:25:04
Adarsh
i want to I'm only saying this because I want us to get back to clean sheets. I'm going to go with, I think it will be a tight game. and we'll win it. I have a two nil or three nil, but I'm gonna do a two nil purely because Brentford are, I think they will make it difficult for us.
00:25:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah, i'm I'm going for a 2-1 to Liverpool. I do think that we'll concede. I think it's going to be a close one. But so look, at this stage, any any win will take it. you know we we We spoke about the the fixtures that well you mentioned that we've we've played Forest away and we've played Manchester United.
00:25:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
you know two two tough games I'm going to read out to you February's fixture list. Okay, so obviously we've got Brentford on Saturday and then 21st January we've got home to Leal and then home to Ipswich on the Saturday.
00:26:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then Wednesday 29th of January, we're away PSV in the Champions League, which then brings us to February. This is February's fixture list. Saturday 1st of February, away to Bournemouth.
00:26:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then the following Thursday, we've got Spurs at home in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi final, semi final game. The weekend game against Plymouth, FA Cup away at Plymouth, that's kind of to be confirmed in terms of time and date. But then Wednesday, the 12th of February, 730 at Goodison, Merseyside Derby,
00:26:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
followed by the 16th of February on the Sunday, Liverpool home to Wolves. And then the two games that finish off February for us, Sunday, the 23rd of February, 4.30 kickoff against Man City.
00:27:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then Wednesday, the 26th of February, home, eight o'clock kickoff to Newcastle.
00:27:08
Adarsh
Oh, gosh.
00:27:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Absolutely flying.
00:27:11
Adarsh
yeah it's
00:27:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
They've won six on the bounce.
00:27:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
That is a tough he's a tough run.
00:27:16
Adarsh
a tough run i think those those away games as well Bournemouth city and Everton gosh yeah do you know what it is
00:27:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
It really is.
00:27:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:27:26
Adarsh
I think if if we're going to get back into form in the next few games, I think the end of January is very important now. think we've got to I'm looking at the Champions League games as well as a as ah as a way to get back in form and have that momentum because that is a tough February. February is the shortest month of the year and somehow we've got so many games and so many big games as well. so Yeah, Bournemouth is going to be tough as well. They're flying at the moment. I think they're nine unbeaten. just got a draw against Chelsea. the They've beaten City and Arsenal already this season at home, so and taught them as well. So I think that's going to be a difficult game.
00:28:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
it Yes, it's going to be a tough month, but then you know what? If you're going to win the big prizes, you need to go through these pictures, right?
00:28:06
Adarsh
Tough games. Yeah.
00:28:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
And you're you're just hoping that if a Liverpool can get through February, if they can get through February, but we're saying this every month, aren't we? We're looking at the January's pictures and thinking if we can get through January, then we'll be fine.
00:28:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
But I think if we can get through February, and still have our lead intact. I think that's going to bode really well for the rest of the season because then the Champions League knockout stage just starts to kick in as well.
00:28:31
Adarsh
yeah type Yeah, I think if anything, it's actually quite positive, like having Bournemouth away, Everton away, City away.
00:28:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
So just the the ra the pressure just ramps up, doesn't it?
00:28:41
Adarsh
We're getting some of these away games out of the way before the running. And I don't know if you've had a look at our running yet, Jesse, but I know we've our last one ah last five games are something like Arsenal at home, Chelsea away, Tottenham at home.
00:28:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:28:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
shall read out to 12345. So let's the last five games are we're home to Spurs.
00:29:04
Adarsh
yeah
00:29:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's on the 26th of April. And then third of May, away to Chelsea.
00:29:09
Adarsh
Yep.
00:29:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
10th of May, home to Arsenal.
00:29:15
Adarsh
Yeah, that's, that's...
00:29:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
18th of May, a way to Brighton.
00:29:21
Adarsh
Yeah, that's...
00:29:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then the last game of the season, I do not like this. I do not like this team.
00:29:24
Adarsh
Oh, the palace.
00:29:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Home to Palace.
00:29:27
Adarsh
Yeah, I know.
00:29:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
that is That is a tough run.
00:29:33
Adarsh
But if that's what I was kind of crazy, because I think Tottenham might not be in Tottenham or Tottenham. So you never know which Tottenham is going to turn up.
00:29:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
and know
00:29:40
Adarsh
Chelsea.
00:29:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Chelsea Arsenal, Brighton Way.
00:29:42
Adarsh
Chelsea and Arsenal. I think Arsenal, if that's the title, decide if it gets to that point.
00:29:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:29:48
Adarsh
like that That's the one that's stressing me out. But I think what I was trying to say was getting some of those tough away games out of the way. At least Tottenham and Arsenal were at home. Palace were at home. Brighton aren't in the greatest form and a form can change.
00:29:58
Adarsh
but
00:29:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:29:59
Adarsh
I feel like, get those Tupperware games out of the way, and we could be in a good position.
00:30:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
You just want to you want to win it.
00:30:05
Adarsh
Yeah.
00:30:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
You want to win it before that palace game comes.
00:30:08
Adarsh
that's That's what I was that so trying to say.
00:30:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
You need a four point cushion going into that game because I do not like palace.
00:30:09
Adarsh
Yeah.
00:30:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
They they're just they haunt me.
00:30:16
Adarsh
yeah they And you know what they're capable of, and they've they've got a decent record against us as well.
00:30:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.

Transfer Rumors and Team Leadership

00:30:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Before we leave, just a couple of rumours that are flying around. There's been a lot of social media activity just in the last couple of hours about Liverpool going in for Bournemouth,
00:30:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
left-back Milos Kirquez. Apparently, and obviously this is completely unconfirmed, but apparently Liverpool put a £30m bid in for him.
00:30:41
Adarsh
Something like that, yeah.
00:30:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Bournemouth are looking for something closer to 50 million pounds. think he's 20, is he 23 years old? I think he is.
00:30:54
Adarsh
something like yeah
00:30:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hungarian International, so Sir Boslai would be happy. Is this a deal that you would like to see happen?
00:31:04
Adarsh
Uh, not for 50 million, but I would like, I would like to see him come in.
00:31:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
No.
00:31:08
Adarsh
I think Liverpool would try and negotiate a price also. Richard Hughes, former Bournemouth might know some people, but I think We've said it on the podcast, it's left the left back position is a is an know is it urgent position we need to rectify. And I think he has all the attributes to playing sort of a slot system. And he's been really impressive, one of Bournemouth's key players this season. So yeah, I like to see him in the team, join Liverpool, but not for, I think 50 million is ridiculous.
00:31:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
All right. If we do get him in and we get him at a decent price, we've, we've then got, if, if he comes in, we'd have three, three left backs. Who do you get rid of a semicast or, or Robertson bearing in mind that you've already blasphemed about Alison.
00:31:46
Adarsh
oh yeah
00:31:51
Adarsh
but
00:31:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Uh, and then you blasphemed against Robertson. And now you're going to do it again. I've got a feeling you're going to do it again.
00:31:59
Adarsh
i i might yeah no i When does Robertson's contract come to an end? Because maybe that will change my decision. If he's 20, I think he'll be 2027 or 2026.
00:32:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm not sure. I'm going to, I'm going to ask the daily, daily Liverpool, assistant researcher, or Mr. G oogle, um, um, to see, uh, when does Andy Robertson's, uh, contract expire?
00:32:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Find that out for us. Uh, Mr. G oogle, when does it expire? Uh, Robertson, apparently, 2026.
00:32:36
Adarsh
2026, the next season will be his final year.
00:32:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. yeah
00:32:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
See, I think, I think even though, and this sounds contradictory, I think Kostar Simikas has been the better left back this season out of those two, out of Simikas and Robertson. Simikas has been the better player this season. If we get Kirk Ersin,
00:32:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
I would sell Simicast and keep Robertson more for his mentoring a new player coming in into that position.
00:33:00
Adarsh
Mm, because, yeah.
00:33:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
And he is part of that senior leadership team at Liverpool. And you can't take that lightly. You can't get rid of, bearing in mind that at end of the end of this season, we could have three of our leadership, senior leadership team in Van Dyke, Salah and Trent gone. So I think that Robertson has still got a crucial role to play. And I think he's a bigger loss than Simicas.
00:33:40
Adarsh
Yeah.
00:33:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I think, you know, Kirk has becomes, a let's say he becomes the number one and Robertson comes in and deputizes for him. You know, he plays in the cup games, he plays in games, you know, that they're not the biggest games, but still Premier League games. You can still do a job in the Premier League without a doubt. I don't have any doubts about that.
00:33:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
but I just think that having Kirk is then and Simic as, as your left backs, I just don't think that one Kirk has has the experience. And I don't think Simic has has that leadership that Robertson has. So I think the the better balance will be Kirk and Robertson.
00:34:16
Adarsh
Yeah, do you know what? You make a very convincing argument and actually thinking if you were to let go of Simicast, you probably get more money for Simicast than Roberts, purely because of age and probably other clubs would be interested in Simicast more than
00:34:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah.

Podcast Conclusion and Contact Information

00:34:28
Adarsh
then Robertson.
00:34:29
Adarsh
i think you I think you make a good point. You just probably kind of swayed my...
00:34:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's the way you did, you know?
00:34:33
Adarsh
yeah yeah You did sway me and I've steered away from some blasphemous comments. Yeah, you saved me there.
00:34:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
I saved you there.
00:34:39
Adarsh
So I'll give you that one.
