There's diverse talent here as you build out this incredible platform. But more importantly, it seems fun. So here I am. Fun has been a theme over the past few minutes. When you and I first talked about a month ago, understanding where you've been, I was sincerely impressed about just the, the ups, the downs, the everywhere in between tells, you know, for a minute or two, just on how those attributes have made you who you are.

Well, it's a lot easier looking back than looking forward. And I'd like to believe since my dad is 100 and fully functioning, there's a lot to look forward to still. But for me, I have always been brought up and was brought up in a culture of the importance of learning.

And I thought about over the years what my interests are and my interests, really professional interests, fall into the world of popular culture, media and entertainment. And I marry that with a desire that I have in any employee that I'm in to make stuff happen. And so I learned, however,

about 10 years into my career that and it took 10 years so I'm trying to help people learn it sooner but if you don't have fun at what you're doing there's no point of doing it unless you're making so much money and that's your goal that that you know you're there but I will tell you that what I've also learned is if you have fun at what you're doing you do better at it.

And if you do better at something or really good at something, the money and all that other stuff takes care of itself. Well said. Well said. I agree with that philosophy. It, it, you got to put your grit and passion into it. And if you're having fun, usually the money will show up. Usually the, the self-worth, the self actualization and so many other components of just the growing and learning and helping others, they all come hand in hand.

But one of the things I've learned today, and it's been accentuated since COVID, is that there's a lot of stress out there for people in their first second, third job, first five, 10 years of career. There is personal stress from how do I navigate this world that everything's getting turned upside down?

The world is a crazy place. For those in college today, mental health is a big, big issue. And they need support.

And most institutions don't provide the kind of support that people need. Now, I'm not talking about having a dedicated one-hour daily meeting with a psychologist to really help you. I'm talking about, hey, am I doing this right? Does this work? What happened when you made that mistake?

You know, how to navigate from this industry to that industry. How do you get started? Because most young people who are beginning careers approach careers like college, meaning there's an exam, they do the homework, they hand it in, they go on to the next thing. And we all know that's not how it works. So learning how to deal with that, learning how to manage your bosses versus just having them manage you,

and learning that even though you're new in business.

You can add a lot to a business because you understand social media better than your bosses probably do. And so I have seen a lot of this, and I certainly can't say I've seen it all, but I have seen a lot. And you have to learn how to navigate in the dips as you've talked about the twists and turns of a career, because this is a marathon as much as today's early career folks

Networking and Relationship Building

It's much more important that you get the skills and that you build yourself a professional network to build upon. And I've been fortunate to make lots of friends along the way. In fact, I would say that's probably the best and worst thing that's happened to me. The best thing is I've made some of my best friends

The worst thing is it's really hard to work with friends at times in tough situations and times when they have to pick the business over you, not purposely, but the situation they're in. And I've learned how to get through all that in a way that works for me. And so now I sit here and I can see it and I can help answer those questions

in a way that a current boss may not provide that to an employee and they may want to talk to someone who understands it but isn't living in the day-to-day with them.

Or how do they learn how to say no, which is a common problem that I see for young people, even mid-level people. And when you brought up the mentor thing, I think it's really worth noting that

For me, it used to be I wanted mentors who had 20, 30, 40 years experience to be able to reflect on, you know, what is important and their journeys. But what I have learned, particularly in the last five years, is that the 20 and 30 year olds are teaching me more than I ever thought I would have known.

And it happens every day and it was my motivation for joining NYU because they know what's going on. Even though often in business, they'll be put into a little slot and they'll be conditioned that they're just helpers. I think that I will teach you how to build a network, how to go beyond your core group,

to out a ring or two of the people who you don't come in contact with every day and figure out how you can do it and how to make it easy because the other mistake people make when they're networking is they think of it like they're at a deli counter.
