Well, happy July, witches. We're recording this in May. Last day in May, but it's still May. yeah Second to last day. So we did a similar episode, what, like a month, two months ago, maybe? Yeah, back in April, I think is when it released. Okay. So for us a month ago, when this comes out, like a few months ago.
00:01:02
Speaker
But we talked about things that we were reading, listening to, watching. And you guys were like, hey, we really liked that. We've been adding things to our TBRs and TVWs to be watched, TVLs to be listened to.
Exploring 'A Court of Thorns and Roses'
00:01:16
Speaker
Yeah. All the TV.
00:01:18
Speaker
Yes. And I want to say this request probably came in like a year ago. But we had someone say – You guys talk about Daddy Reese all the time. And who is that? And I was like, okay, well, we love you. But do you live under a rock? Rice. Right. I said Rice. Rice. Rice and, as some people called him. yeah Daddy Reese. Oh, my God. Well, first and foremost, I'm going to need you to go to your Libby app or go to Barnes & Nobles or go anywhere where you can get books. Yes.
00:01:51
Speaker
look for A Court Thorns and Roses. It is a – Currently, as we're recording, five-book series. Yes. Four in a novella.
00:02:01
Speaker
Yeah, four in a novella. it's Depending on who you talk to. Yeah. It's about to be a seven-book series by the end of this year so you need to get on it and you need to read it because Daddy Reese is in that book. His name is Reese Sand, and he is the most beautiful man written by a woman that you'll ever meet. And he's amazing. Okay.
00:02:24
Speaker
We'll back that up a little bit. I will say getting back into fantasy slash into romanticy. My dog opened the door and I went and scared the shit out I heard it it and I was like, I thought it was one of the kids. Yeah.
00:02:40
Speaker
When I first got, so like I've never really read romanticy until I read this. Yeah. I've read a lot of fantasy up to this point. And i read this and I was like, oh my God.
00:02:53
Speaker
It's so amazing. And don't get me wrong. I still love it. And I still love Daddy Reese. Yeah. But so many men have taken his place
Book Boyfriends and Character Highlights
00:03:04
Speaker
And this is a really great segue into what are top three book boyfriends? Well, we should probably give a little more Daddy Reese episode. Oh, you know what? You're right. Just a little more background on You're right. okay You're right. He which He is Faye.
00:03:20
Speaker
which we love But he's also like part Illyrian, which have bat wings. And that is so sexy. As a bitch, as two bitches who love bats, that is a very sexy. That is hot. And can we just talk about how touching those wings is like sexual foreplay?
00:03:40
Speaker
Yeah. So if we have piqued your interest... go ahead and go out and buy the whole – you're going to need all of the books. Don't just buy Port of Thorns and Resents. You need all of them. But you might as well at this point also get all of Throne of Glass. Yeah. And what's available of Crescent City at this point, which is three books.
00:04:01
Speaker
so yeah well Yeah. Did you know you were going to go into like a – how many books is that at this point? I can't count, but it's like seven plus five is like, what, 13? Yeah.
00:04:14
Speaker
Is that 13? Plus three. So it's like 18 books plus 20 books. Yeah. That you're going to need to read in 2026. So I'm just like, well, just that's basically the rest of your reading for the rest of the year, depending on how quickly you read. Yes.
00:04:31
Speaker
And you're welcome because you just added to your TBR and now you will never be bored. So no. No, no, no. And you're going to have it's worth it a lot of men to fill in the book boyfriend aspect for you. And you're going to have some great female characters along the way too.
00:04:47
Speaker
Yes. And a beautiful storyline. And if you're anything like us, Throne of Glass will make you Yep. yep Yep. yeah Throne of Glass is amazing. Oh, Throne of Glass. So we decided to talk a little bit about some of our favorites. And the first is our top three boyfriends. Oh, yeah. So I'll go first. My top boy what book boyfriend is from Throne of Glass and it is Rowan Whitethorn.
00:05:20
Speaker
We shared this one because um he's perfect. And he punched her in her face. And I said, first i'd give us more. yeah Yes.
00:05:30
Speaker
Please. So I love him so much. Yes. And then for my second book boyfriend, um this is a twofer because you can't just pick one from the series. No,
00:05:45
Speaker
But at the Clockwork Angel trilogy, lives rent-free in my brain all the time. I have reread that series probably too many times to count, but Will Herondale and Jem or James Carstairs from the Clark Work Angel trilogy, they are my two favorite guys in the world. And I just love how like Oh my God. The, the longing and the, Oh my God, this is so amazing. I will say, so we just, kind we just came from recording book club where we just read a contemporary YA book that Sam hated. Yeah. i didn't hate, but I definitely did not love.
Female Characters and Literary Tropes
00:06:31
Speaker
particular off author, Clarissa. Oh God, hold on. I have it right here. ah No, it's something. No, stand Cassandra. Cassandra. Claire. Cassandra Claire. She writes YA in a way that I'm like, I really enjoy it.
00:06:47
Speaker
Because I have read the um Mortal Instruments series more than once. Yep. Love it. It doesn't matter how many times I read it. I'm like, oh, love this.
00:06:58
Speaker
Yeah, it is. She does, like, the whole world that she does. And and here's the thing is, like, it leans heavy into, like, Christianity, I feel. It does. It does. In a way, that doesn't make you feel shitty for not being Christian. No. Like, there's still enough, like, magical elements to it. Yeah. right And, like, other world aspects. There's angels and demons and, like. Werewolves and. There's other. Yeah. It's not like, oh. I feel like this is what I love about the TV show.
00:07:29
Speaker
supernatural like there are heavy elements of christianity god angels demons hell and heaven but it it's all like it's not in a way that like oh if you're not christian you're going to hell like it it's done in a way that makes you like really enjoy the storyline even you're not in that realm Yes. Yeah.
00:07:55
Speaker
So love them both. Yes. And Carden Greenbrier from the Cruel Prince series is, oh my God. ah he hi Him and his tail. His tail, yes. We accept the tail, thanks.
00:08:08
Speaker
Yeah. and I all love that series. Yes. um And I will say too, like with both of those, considering we just talked about like YA, like the fact that like Most of these men from my list are from YA books. Just to show like it's there the range and there's also stuff that like it's not explicitly described in the book, but it is it makes you think.
00:08:35
Speaker
And makes you put things into, like, you can imagine in your head and you're like, oh, yeah, this is really hot. um And then also because I can't pick just three, even though I technically already have four, my last is Dorian. bleed whatever color you want me to have a lard.
00:08:52
Speaker
I also have him on my list because, yes, yes please. Yes. Let's do shadow daddy magic on me. Yes. So as you both, like you already know, two of mine are two of Sam's. So Rowan, Whitethorn, because bombs. Yeah. And also he turns into a hawk.
00:09:15
Speaker
Yeah. Because he's hot. Are we attracted to a hawk? We don't really know. hawks in general are hot. So they are very good looking birds. And then, you know, Dorian, I bleed whatever color you want me to, Havilard, because yes, please. My other is going to be Castiel Denier from Blood and Ash because read ACOTAR first, A Court of Thorns and Roses with Daddy Reese. And I was like, Daddy Reese is my book boyfriend. And then I moved on Blood and Ash and I was like, Daddy Reese who? That man doesn't even exist to me anymore because Castiel Denier, yes, please. Yes.
00:09:58
Speaker
Like – Yes. Whenever people like put out a heart. Well, that part at the back breakfast, not even the dinner table, at the breakfast table, he rips this man's heart out for her.
00:10:10
Speaker
Yeah. Yes, please. Yes. I actually, I read that and then I told Anthony, you've never ripped out a heart for me. And he laughed and then he read the series and he was like, okay. Okay. Yeah. Okay. Okay. I've also never first stabbed you and then had sex with you
Reading Habits and Genre Preferences
00:10:26
Speaker
either. I was doing the snow, so. Yeah. And then I have – ah and then i have Two honorable mentions because they deserve it. So the first one is Lord Lorcan Loken. That man ripped his shirt up to make pads for his woman. Okay.
00:10:44
Speaker
And we'll never find out what Lorcan did. but no in our I would love to know what Lorcan did. Yeah. Sarah Madison, don't need tell us. If you've never read it, that's all we get. That's all we And Lorcan did.
00:10:59
Speaker
And what did he do? don't know. No one knows. yeah And then my other honorable mention is going to be Josh Hammond from Lights Out because he is her favorite cat dad. Did he stalk her? A little bit. Did he break into her apartment and film videos so that she knew he was in her apartment? Absolutely. Was he absolutely hilarious?
00:11:22
Speaker
Absolutely. Yeah. Yeah. i like gas He gets a pass. It's it attracts. It does. So we talked about our top three book boyfriends. Now let's talk about our top three female characters. Yes. Yes. So my top three, I love how we have similar on here as well. Again. Um,
00:11:45
Speaker
My top one is Aelyn Ashriver Galathinius because if you have read Throne of Glass, she – Like, I struggle sometimes with – Like, I'm reading a book, if I can't immediately connect to the female main character, I struggle with finishing the book. And that the first time that I've just been, like – feel like I've been – completely seen by a female she was that bitch she is that bitch and she's been that bitch yes and it's like this um it's just like instead of a what would jesus do situation it's a what would what would anyone do yeah what would she do because i want to do that thing and then also ju duarte from the cruel prince series because if you have read that series you know she is also bitch you do not fuck with no and i love her so much
00:12:30
Speaker
And then to round up my top three, Manon Blackbeak, which is also from the Throne of Glass universe. And she is fucking amazing. She was my second.
00:12:42
Speaker
Yeah. So I absolutely love her. um So, you know, number one, Aelin Ashriver Galathinius. Doy. And number two, Manon Blackbeak, because badass. I want to be a witch with iron nails and iron teeth.
00:12:59
Speaker
Yes, please. Thank you. With a Toothless, the dragon. I know. He's so precious. He is. His name is not Toothless. My name my brain is broken.
00:13:13
Speaker
i know they're wyverns. Abraxas. Abraxas. Yeah. I adore him, but every time I picture him, all I picture is Toothless from the movie Because his personality is that. He is toothless. He likes to roll around in the flowers. He does. He brings out the softness of Manon. He does.
00:13:35
Speaker
And then my third, i struggled with who I would put here and I ended up on Poppy. And she is from Blood and Ash as well. She is super naive, but she's also a bad bitch. And I love her. is bad bitch.
00:13:50
Speaker
I love her so much. Yeah. So have her like her poppies are tattooed on me. her dagger is tattooed on me I love her. I also love that, like, she's not the typical FNC that you see described now in you know in a fantasy series where it's like, I'm an an emaciated small child. No, she's a that woman. She is a woman with nerves And she explores her sexuality.
00:14:17
Speaker
Although a little shyly, but she's got her, you know, her hot man. don't want to spoil it for those who haven't read it. yes We're not going to spoil it, but just know no if you read from Blood and Ash, you're going love her. Yes. You'll love her. You'll love the spice. You'll love Miss Willow Collins. is So you're welcome.
00:14:41
Speaker
Yes. So moving on to our favorite tropes. So for me, I love a good trope. I will pretty much read all tropes. I don't have one that I'm just like, oh my God. Miscommunication trope.
00:14:56
Speaker
i hit or miss for me. Same. It has to be done with right Yeah. When it's done right, I'm like, okay. When it's done wrong, I'm like, this is annoying. Yeah. Yeah. My favorite enemies to lovers, hands down.
00:15:11
Speaker
Slow burn slash yearning, especially if the male is yearning for the female. It just gets me there. And then the touch her and die. Those are my favorite. My favorite thing is to like reading a book, like specifically Throne of Glass. I remember when I read this part where he's bathing her he the scars on her back and he's like, who did this to you?
00:15:31
Speaker
Literally. thelu When that question comes out, the who did this to you in any book, I'm like, fuck yes. Yes. Yeah. So mine are going to be touch her and I first.
00:15:45
Speaker
Enemies to lovers the second. And then I don't know what it is about this. I love a one horse or a one bed situation. ah There's only one horse and I have to ride in front of them. And then it's like, oh, spicy. Yeah. There's only one bed and I'm not going to make him sleep on the floor. Immediately spicy. Spicy.
00:16:08
Speaker
like this is literally literally I love it so much it's so stupid but I love it oh good it is so good I didn't see this until just now that do you have reading snack and drink I usually so my favorite snack right now and i usually will eat this when I'm like playing um my little your bug game Not my bug game. I've moved on.
00:16:36
Speaker
like Oh, you've moved on. What is it? Mahjong. Oh, I do love Mahjong. I have a Mahjong on my phone. So I have been obsessed with lately those Ritz cracker chips, the sour cream and onion Ritz cracker chips. They're so good.
00:16:55
Speaker
They're addicting. It's so good. So that and either wine or Zero is my go-to. i put this question in here because, so for those that don't know, i work part-time at a bookstore.
00:17:11
Speaker
And it is one of the questions that we put on our website. for all of the employees, we include our favorite reading snack and drink. So was like, oh, this would be cute to put in. So mine has always been a popcorn or B, gummy bears. If I'm reading, it's one or the two are in my hand.
00:17:30
Speaker
I don't know what has brought that about, but that's just always been my go-to reading snack, popcorn or gummy bears. And I used to use both of these when I was in college to get me through reading. i would be like,
00:17:45
Speaker
a gummy bear at paragraph six. And when I got to paragraph six, I got to eat that gummy bear. That's how I made myself get through studying. um And then for drinks, it depends on my mood, but it's usually either tea or wine. And I always have water. Like right now I have wine and water next to me. so Same. Same, same. You know that that there have been scientific research that has talked about if you're wanting to um have your brain really lock into what you're studying. You should eat while you're studying.
00:18:19
Speaker
and you should keep it the same snack. Yeah. Yep. So there you go. If you didn't know, now you know, guys. And you can use that for your own studies. Yeah.
Current Reads and Impressions
00:18:31
Speaker
So moving to the next question, Tiffany, what are your favorite genres to read? I typically just bounce between horror as my number one, fantasy as my number two sci-fi as my number three.
00:18:46
Speaker
But I'm also a mood reader. And when I can't get into the ones that I'm trying to read and I'm We talked about this before. I don't DNF books. It has to be like an extreme reason that I DNF. I would use a palate cleanser and my palate cleansers are either a contemporary romance, which makes zero sense.
00:19:05
Speaker
Yeah. Because normally I struggle with them. Or, or a psychological thriller, which is not really a palate cleanser. Psychological thriller. A palate cleanser book. Okay. When I'm reading horror, heavy fantasy, or sci-fi,
00:19:22
Speaker
that's a palate cleanser. Yeah. You're right. Yeah. Especially like somebody like me, one of my favorite horror authors is Stephen King. And if you've ever read Stephen King, you know people either love or hate him because he will describe one blade of grass in 60 pages. You don't know everything about that blade of grass where you can picture it perfectly the way he pictured it. So a palate cleanser for me is definitely a psychological thriller. Yeah.
00:19:51
Speaker
yeah And when you put it that way, it definitely makes sense. See, see. Yeah. So for me as I have aged, so my um favorite genre is I've always loved the historical retelling. I've always loved fantasy, historical fantasy, especially.
00:20:10
Speaker
But as I have grown with age, I have become obsessed with like the gothic Victorian slash turn of century horror. Yes. Anything that includes a bog body, a creepy haunted estate, beautiful dresses. oh my God.
00:20:28
Speaker
Include some horror, some yearning, a little bit of sapphic stuff. I am slut. I'm there with you in my horror genre. I read everything in horror. So like I read from splatter punk, disgusting, make you cringe, can't even read the last sentence of that page, horror, to the yearning and bog body, like blood on her tongue. Like that is probably one of my favorite like gothic horror books I've read in a while. T. Kingfisher is up there on my favorites, does a fantastic gothic horror.
00:21:07
Speaker
So I am with you on that. Yeah. Love. Yes. So yeah, let's look at what we have currently or just recently finished reading, listening to, and watching.
00:21:21
Speaker
I'll let you go first. So for reading, rees I'm still, I only have like four hours left in it. I think I'm listening to it, but I put it under reads.
00:21:32
Speaker
This book I put off for so long because of the fucking name. And i talked to Sam about this before we started recording anything today because I had to see if she had read it and felt the same way.
00:21:44
Speaker
Fairy Dale. I'm sorry, but the name of this book pissed me off. Yeah. i refused to read it for so long because I was like, immediately I thought of Riverdale, which I love, right? I love Riverdale, the TV show. But Fairydale just sounds like a dumb name and I was not like on board to read it. And I kept seeing it everywhere and everyone talking about how amazing it was. So I finally gave in. I got it for free from Libby. So i was like, fuck it. Let's try it.
00:22:12
Speaker
When I tell you this book is so fucking good it's so good. It has nothing to do with fairies. um i I don't really know what the... So it's a new type of creature for me. I've never read anything about Revas or Revas. I'm not 100% sure.
00:22:34
Speaker
Like I feel like they've pronounced it both ways in the audiobook. But for the general population of the story, they refer to them as demons.
00:22:45
Speaker
But they're not. To them, they're like, we're not demons. We're more like gods, essentially. But you don't really know what they are. The yearning, the love story, it's told across, like, different time frames where, like,
00:22:59
Speaker
The main male character has lived this entire time and his mate dies and reincarnates multiple times. And it's him finding her and like them reconnecting and him reminding him or reminding her who she is throughout like centuries.
00:23:17
Speaker
It is a beautifully told story. It is a terrible name. I don't know who approved the name, but no. Yeah. Yeah. ah So if you've seen it and you're like, no, thank you.
00:23:28
Speaker
Just know that the story itself is good. It's not about fairies. It's really great. um The other one I want to bring up is the Red Rising series. I feel like I have talked about this in banter at the very least.
00:23:41
Speaker
Absolutely obsessed with this. This is like sci-fi bordering fantasy kind of space opera theme story. It's very politics heavy. beautifully told story not finished series which I didn't know when I started this by it's like five or six books at this point and still more to come just great story great characters a lot of heartbreak a lot of really heavy themes well done story if you haven't read it 10 out of 10 if you like that like
00:24:14
Speaker
sci-fi bordering fantasy genre. I just recently, this is an older, not old, old, but like an older book. um The 10,000 Doors of January by Alex E. Harrow. It's a fantasy.
00:24:28
Speaker
I've read other books by her. I know this one has been out for a while. i decided to check it out. It was more kind of outside of what I typically listen to or read, but it was surprisingly good.
00:24:42
Speaker
like actually really, really good. And it's the idea that like certain people have the ability to find these doors and cross into different places.
00:24:54
Speaker
And these like other people find out that these places exist and they're trying to shut them all down. And so the like if people cross over into one place and then This group comes in and burns the door down. You lose access to your home or to your people or your loved ones.
00:25:14
Speaker
And so it's like it's really heartbreaking, but it does have a happy ending. It was really good. I've read like the other books I've read by her I liked, but I didn't really love.
00:25:25
Speaker
And I feel like this one made her like, OK, I actually love this one. And then I recently, i listened to this one, but it was The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston.
00:25:37
Speaker
This is contemporary romance, but it's with ghosts. And so like the main character has the ability to, her and her dad in their family have the ability to see and communicate with ghosts. And her family runs a funeral home.
00:25:53
Speaker
And so there's a lot of ghosts that come in and out of their lives. And there's a love story that happens. And it was just really cute. It was funny. It was sad. it was a contemporary romance that was very well done.
00:26:06
Speaker
The Good House by Tananarive Du. This is horror. I have read other like one other book by her called The Reformatory. 10 out of 10 recommend anything by her at this point because they are so well written. They are such diverse. They're POC the main characters or POC driven, I guess is what I'm trying to say.
00:26:32
Speaker
There's a lot of – The Good House had a lot of like voodoo, hoodoo type magic or history woven into it. Just very well done. Absolutely loved it.
00:26:43
Speaker
And the last one under my read is The Bane Witch by Eva Morgan. And this is a very witchy fantasy. Again, absolutely loved it. This was very well done. And it was centered around baneful magic, which we've talked about a little bit on the podcast. Yeah.
00:27:00
Speaker
Yeah. For listening. i have not been listening to a lot of podcasts lately. i don't know why, but I decided to just talk about music in this one. So my favorites are Sleep Token. If you have not heard of Sleep Token, clearly you live under rock.
00:27:18
Speaker
Just kidding if you haven't. But love them. Ice Nine Kills is one of my favorites and their newest song, Twisting the Knife, has been on repeat on my playlist and it is a beautiful. For a horror-based metal band, this song is very soft and just beautiful. so It would be a great intro if you wanted to listen to them. Artemis put out a new album and it's absolutely beautiful. And then I found this artist by accident. And I don't know if you've heard of her, Sam, but her name is Esme Rose. She's very like bluesy, country, kind of bluegrass-y. But her style, first of all, is just beautiful. And she's witchy.
00:28:00
Speaker
All of her songs about are about like witchcraft and being witchy and like fuck, you know, one of their songs is called Fuck Being a Princess. And it's just about how like as a society, as girls, we grow up like, oh, you want to be a princess? And she's like, I'd rather be a witch.
Podcasts, Music, and Media Favorites
00:28:15
Speaker
So if you want a good witchy kind of country artist, 10 out of 10, check her out.
00:28:21
Speaker
And then for watching, I am re-watching Supernatural for like the 3.2 millionth time. I love this show so much. I think I'm on season five right now. Love it.
00:28:32
Speaker
And then I recently watched with my husband Big Mistakes by, or not by, but with Dan Levy. So Dan Levy in this show is a priest. His family is a complete shit show and his sister gets him wrapped up in major crimes by stealing a necklace from like essentially a mob i'm not 100 sure if they're like italian or russian because it kind of goes back and forth a little bit and one of the guys is turkish even so yeah who fucking knows but like essentially they just get wrapped up into like mob crimes where they they owe this mob all these favors and so they just get these phones that they have to answer at any given time or they're like
00:29:13
Speaker
kidnapped and like threatened and all this shit. It is the funniest fucking shit show I've ever watched. Yeah, I have started watching that too. I love that part of one of the first few episodes where they're already involved with like the mob situation and they give them like a stack of money and they're like, go um like essentially to rent this apartment, but they didn't know they were renting the apartment. They thought they were buying drugs. And it was so funny. um Yeah, that show was really good. I love it because he's like a priest. So he's like, yeah.
00:29:46
Speaker
not naive but kind of naive to these situations like a gay priest at that so he's like keeping that under wraps it's just it's really good it's their mom is insane their mom's insane completely and yeah and she's like running for mayor it is dad's like a dead police chief like yeah ah the whole thing is a shit show but it's so funny yeah 10 out of 10 recommend it's on netflix It is. Yeah.
00:30:11
Speaker
All right. So I guess moving into what I'm reading right now, what I have read. So The Coldest Girl in Cold Town by Holly Black is one of my recent, like I just kind of came across because was looking for like a vampire type novel.
00:30:27
Speaker
It is a contemporary-ish, like I think it was written in the early 2000s or like maybe early 2010s. So it's contemporary in that time period. um It is so good. it is so good. I had to physically go out and buy the book afterwards because I loved it so much.
00:30:44
Speaker
So I really enjoyed that one. I love Holly Black though. We That goes back to Cruel Prince, Carden, and Jude. Yeah. And I would love it if she would like write another book to follow up with this book because I'm just like, Oh my God, some things were left to the imagination that I'm just like, I want you to revisit this, this whole world, but I don't know if she will. Yeah.
00:31:10
Speaker
And then I started raising Hazelthorne by CG Drews. And I just, I DNF'd it. I couldn't finish it. so Oh no. Yeah. i was sad by that because it was a good premise.
00:31:23
Speaker
yeah, But yeah, just no. And then moving on, Fallen City by Adrienne Young that we both read for the podcast. god Oh my God. If you have not listed, if you are a Patreon or Supercast member and you have not listened to that book club episode, you need to go listen to it. If you are not at book club or so or like if you're not part of our book club for Supercast and Patreon, please go listen. Well, first of all, become a member because why not? But also if you don't want to, just go and fucking read that book because that book is phenomenal. Everything Adrienne Young touches is brilliant. I was going to say literally you could pick up anything by her. And I talked about this on the book club. i love everything by her.
00:32:04
Speaker
yeah I like her YA books, but I love her adult books. Yes. They are so beautifully written. Yeah. And she's witchy too. So it's just like, you know, when you're reading her stuff that she knows her shit. Yeah. She's done the research. She's connected it back to actual like historical workings or actual um folklore. And it's just amazing. It's beautiful.
00:32:32
Speaker
There's another book by her ah that will be released because this is just the first in the series. I think it's a duology, right? Yeah. Yeah. So that hasn't been released yet, but when it does come out, we will absolutely be reading it for the podcast. So you can pre-order it now too, yeah because we both already did that.
00:32:49
Speaker
Yeah. And then also I've been listening to Wild Reverence by rever my Rebecca Ross. I am going to go and actually buy the book though, because I feel like this is a book that you need to probably listen not listen to, like maybe listen to ra with reading, but I would rather read it.
00:33:10
Speaker
But it is, but it is very, very good from what I've read so far. I have read another duology by her that I was like obsessed with. And then I pre-ordered this one when I heard about it.
00:33:24
Speaker
And then i forgot about it because I pre-ordered it like way in advance. And then I thought about it and I was like, wasn't this supposed to come out already? Come to find out, my husband picked it up from the post office and it was sitting in his car for like two months. course. So I still haven't read it because yeah that. it's So far it's really good. so Yeah. Yeah.
00:33:45
Speaker
And then i am not quite finished because I keep putting it down. I've been reading this book for probably four months. The Kiss of the Basilisk by Lindsay Strobe or Straub or something. I saw this on your thing and I have it on my shelf and have not read it yet. And I was like, ooh, I can't wait for it. Yeah, it is.
00:34:03
Speaker
I've heard it's wild. It is wild. It is out there. it is very wild. It is not something that like – so when I picked it up, I actually picked up the second book first because I did not know it was a series. The second book is not allowed to be shipped to my APO box for some reason. Because it's literally porn. What?
00:34:24
Speaker
The military said no. Nope. um So the second book, I just happened to see in Barnes & Noble and it was beautiful and it said between two kings or something like that. Yeah.
00:34:34
Speaker
And I was like, oh my God, this is beautiful. Like, I just want to read it because the cover and the sprayed edges were beautiful. And so I picked it That's bought the first one because I was like, yeah, I have a sprayed edge version. And it was beautiful. And then I read what it was about after I got it and I was like, oh. yeah.
00:34:50
Speaker
Yeah. um So I read the first chapter and I was like, this, it feels like I'm missing part of the story here. And so I was like, I looked it up and I was like, oh, this is part two. And I was like, fuck.
00:35:01
Speaker
And so I had to go out and buy the first book. And I just, I don't know. Like, it's okay It's okay. It's like, it's very out there from what I understand. Yeah, it's out there. The world doesn't really make sense to me, if i'm going to be quite honest. Yeah. um So, and how I feel like in my mind, how I would want the main character to end up, I don't think it's going to be that way. so i don't know. My coworker is just like, you have to finish it. And then you have to read the second book because I have no one to talk to about this. And I'm like, okay, I will read it. But I'm like pushing through, but I'm like at a point where I'm like almost at the very end of the first book and like shit is happening, but I'm just like,
00:35:49
Speaker
I don't know. Like, don't know I have edited but I'm trying. I've been putting it off for a while because after I was like, I impulse bought it on beauty and then I read it about later and I was like, oh, my God.
00:36:01
Speaker
Yeah. So I haven't started that. This paper so You'd think it would be something else. And then the sprayed edges on the copy that I have is like phenomenal. So was like, this is absolutely stunning. I have to have it. And now I'm like, oh. We'll see. Literally when I picked it up and I saw Between Two Princes or Between Two Kings, I was like, this is a historical romance. I'm going to be obsessed with this book.
00:36:25
Speaker
It's like a shifter, isn't it? Shifter, like crazy romance. like And then especially, we've already researched basilisks on this podcast before. And so knowing what we know about basilisks and how they're as big as like a fucking worm, I'm like, don't know.
00:36:42
Speaker
I forgot that some of them said they're a worm. Yeah. So I don't know. Nice. but And then lastly, what I'm currently reading right now is Hunger Stone by Kat Dunn. And I know that this...
00:36:54
Speaker
I added this to my Libby, like I tried to check it out. Like, so it was on my, what do you call it when it's like on your list and like, it'll tell you when it's available at some point. You know what I mean? ah um You put a hold on it. A hold. That's what it is. Your holds list.
00:37:10
Speaker
So, but this was recommended by somebody on social meds because it's like a a historical, like horror kind of Gothic core. So I'm just like, oh shit. Yeah. I'm going to fucking read this.
00:37:22
Speaker
I'm only like 30 something percent through this book. It is so good. This is probably going to be a five star read for me. So I just love it so much. I need to put that one on my list. i I've not heard of it.
00:37:33
Speaker
It's so good. um And then as far as what I've been listening to podcast wise, I do not know how to say this woman's name. um But Mayim, Mayim, Mayim,
00:37:47
Speaker
I've heard of Liam Bialik. Okay. I don't know if that's right. That's just what I heard. Yes. Her podcast, The Breakdown, is specifically her alien episodes. um I have been eating up. So I just, I love, i haven't listened to much of her other episodes, but I love that because of her scientific background, she's not just hosting a podcast and having people on and doesn't really understand the topic. Like she really is having like insightful scientific conversations with the people she's doing the podcast. She's very smart. Mm-hmm. So I love her alien episodes. It is kind of creepy, um but I'm here for it.
00:38:26
Speaker
And then additionally, Crime Junkie. I always keep up with that podcast. I was going to say you stay on Crime Junkie. I do. Like there is something about the way that the two hosts interact and they tell the story that just does something to my brain that I'm just like, okay, I love it. Yeah.
00:38:42
Speaker
And then bts Oh my God. Their new album is so good. And i know, like I saw them in concert in April. Oh my God. Their new album is so good. So if you are not a BTS fan, you should listen to it. If you are a BTS fan and say maybe you listened to the album and it was like, oh, this is different from their old stuff. Listen to it again. i swear to God, it gets better than when I listen to Because the first time I listened to the album, I was like, ah it's not my favorite BTS album. The more I listen to it, I'm like, fuck yeah, BTS. Let's do it. so
00:39:19
Speaker
And then lastly, what I have been watching. So I downloaded the first season of XO Kitty. On a plane. And I was like, ah, you know, it's just going to be a little lighthearted show. I watched all three seasons within a week.
00:39:34
Speaker
Did you watch the um the other ones with the other sisters? I did. yeah Okay. I was going to say, I haven't watched XO Kitty at all, but I watched the other sisters and I was like...
00:39:45
Speaker
I feel like – so my favorite is obviously the first one, All the Boys I Loved Before. Yeah. X-O Kitty would be number two for me because I wasn't a huge fan of the second movie. Yeah. I was like, meh.
00:39:57
Speaker
Yeah. So I was like, when X-O Kitty came out, I was like, I don't really care. Which is why I haven't watched X-O Kitty. I loved the first one. It was meh about the second. so Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. The first season of X-O Kitty, like you'd have to push through it. Yeah.
00:40:13
Speaker
But it's really good. I really like it. And then The Crash on Netflix. Have you watched that documentary? No. is that what Isn't she like recently in jail?
00:40:26
Speaker
Yes. Whatever you want to call Okay. yes So I have seen about the case. I have not watched the documentary. The documentary, I feel like Netflix, even though Netflix kind of cast her in a more...
00:40:39
Speaker
um favorable light than some the other documentaries. I heard though. Yeah. It still is like, it's one of those documentaries where you're going to walk away and be like, wow, this is insane. Yeah. I heard that people are like, even though, like you said, it was kind of more favorable on her, that people were still at the end of it. Like you dumb bitch. Yeah.
00:41:02
Speaker
So, yeah, it is wild. And it's just, you know, it further speaks to when you have children, you have a moral responsibility to help them to grow up to be better people and if you are going to enable them to be terrible people you should probably also be punished in my opinion so um and then i have been following the fucking train wreck that is euphoria um i have not jumped on the euphoria train yet but julia also was like this fucking show
00:41:36
Speaker
Yeah, it is just like I'm so invested at this point that I have to finish the last episode of the series, which comes out this Sunday. The first two seasons were gold. They were so good.
00:41:50
Speaker
This third season, there's been a huge break. Yeah.
00:42:04
Speaker
is heartbreaking and how they've chosen to go this final season it doesn't make sense i feel like for any of the characters and the storyline And it really makes me mad. I've not watched or followed any of it, but I know that something keeps popping up in my feed that doesn't make any sense to me because I haven't watched any of it. But like, yeah apparently with Sydney, Sweeney's character in particular, they do something that is just like,
00:42:29
Speaker
Everyone was like, what the fuck do you mean? Yeah. Yes. And like with Sydney Sweeney, like as much as like personally, I'm not a huge fan of her. She, the first two seasons of the show, I thought, damn, she's a great fucking actress. Like you can hate her all you want. She's an amazing actress. Yeah. Yeah.
00:42:47
Speaker
ah This last season, the first two seasons, you're going to watch any seasons of Euphoria, watch the first two seasons and then just pretend like the third season doesn't even exist. Because they could have, the way they ended the second season felt like it wrapped it up.
00:42:58
Speaker
Yeah. And so for them to come out with a third season that feel i feel like it bastardized the first two seasons, it just pisses me off so much. And I will forever like be upset with the way
Closing Remarks and Listener Interaction
00:43:10
Speaker
they did the third season. said So I'm not really about it, honestly. Yeah. It's definitely, I always, I knew she was a good actress based on how she was in The Handmaid's Tale. mom I thought her, like, cause that's the first time I ever saw her was in The Handmaid's Tale. And I was like, who is this kid? She's gorgeous. And she's such a great actress. And then I saw her in the Halsey music video she did for, I can't remember what song it was. And I was like, oh my God, I love this girl. And then, yeah, it's just. I actually really loved in The Housemaid too.
00:43:40
Speaker
I've not watched that. i So I read the or listened to the audiobook. Not a fan. I've been trying because everybody like raves about Freida McFadden. And I have yeah listened because I'm like I'm not putting the physical reading time into it at this point. I have listened to several of her books and all have missed but one.
00:44:01
Speaker
and the housemaid missed. But I ended up watching the movie when Anthony was gone on a boy's weekend one day. And the movie was good. i enjoyed it. I love Amanda Seyfried, period. Me She could be in anything and I'll watch it. And so that really drove me watching that. But the two of them in that was phenomenal.
00:44:21
Speaker
They were wonderful. i'll have to watch that. Yeah. It's just, it's been on my list of like, oh, I should check it out because I do love Amanda Seyfried. But yeah, it is crazy. The twist is wild.
00:44:33
Speaker
Yeah. Wild. Wow. I can't wait to get into it. Yeah. And then so I've been, mike and I have been doing both a White Lotus and a Game of Thrones rewatch. obviously we'll never watch the last like two seasons of Game of Thrones ever again i because they've ruined it yeah but the first like we'll rewatch the first like we're on can't remember what season were I think we're on season three um and we're just like oh my god I remember watching this as it came out and being like this is the best show on television and the books were like it's so good the books were so so good yeah so and then he didn't finish them and he says he's not going to and yeah And they just ruined it. so So how many seasons of White Lotus are there? Because I've watched two.
00:45:19
Speaker
There's three and then they're filming the fourth. So season one completely sucked into Season two? finished it. Oh my Season two was like my favorite season. That was like Italy, right? Yeah. Yeah.
00:45:35
Speaker
I love season two. didn't love I didn't hate it. i It was like book club. I didn't love it. I didn't hate it. Season one, I was like, what the fuck the whole time?
00:45:46
Speaker
Yeah, season one was wild. yeah um Season three was really good too. like Season three has some of my absolute favorite characters in it. Okay, maybe I'll watch have to watch it It is really good.
00:46:00
Speaker
But then lastly, mike and I started watching Widow's Bay on Apple TV. Everybody keeps raving about I have not heard of this. It is a so it's like a coastal, like a ah eastern ah coastal town. Like I think it's like on an island. um And there's like supposedly a curse on this island.
00:46:22
Speaker
And we've only watched the first two episodes. It is hilarious. It is scary. it is so good. You would love it it it. When I watched the first two episodes, I was like, this feels like – I feel like Stephen King could write this. Okay. So I feel like you'd watch it. I need anyone to back into his Apple TV because it's set up under his account and it got kicked off at some point.
00:46:46
Speaker
So, yeah. But that's what I'm into right now is oftentimes I'll watch TV with my husband and then fall asleep at 7 o'clock at night and – Then have to make him rewind it the next day. So we're slowly getting through things. But.
00:47:03
Speaker
Oh, i was going to. I knew I was forgetting something. I looked at mine and I was like, I thought i was going to add something. For what I'm watching, Anthony and I are only on like episode three or four. If you love an adult animated ridiculous fucking show, if you liked Big Mouth, if you like Nick Kroll, go watch Mating Season on Netflix.
00:47:26
Speaker
It is the most host a ridiculous shit I have ever watched in my life, but we have laughed with tears in our eyes. Nice. It's centered around a group of friends and they're all animals. It's a deer, a fox, um a raccoon, and a bear.
00:47:43
Speaker
are the main friend group and then there's like a couple other random characters that come in and out or like throughout their past stories but it's about them trying to find their mates but there's like interspecies relationships yeah like the deer at one point is dating a wolf like a very alpha wolf and like the bear goes through a horrible breakup with his hibernation mate and the racket just fucks anything that moves. And like, it is the funniest shit I've ever watched. It's on par for Nick Kroll and anything he does.
00:48:18
Speaker
Hilarious. 10 out of 10 recommend if you like crude adult cartoons. Okay. Yeah. We'll have to check that out because sometimes we just love that. Yeah. Sometimes you just need something ridiculous and funny. Yeah. Yeah.
00:48:30
Speaker
